Starting point is 00:02:56 Open your free iHeart radio app, earn your leisure and listen now. Welcome to Tuesday's show. Morning studio. Morning. It's the anonymous inbox. And by our session to be had. Hello, Bobby Bones.
Starting point is 00:03:34 I love my boyfriend. I really think he could be the one. He's super close with his family. And I've been trying to build a good relationship with them too, especially his mom. But now she's texting me every day, commenting on everything I post. And basically, filling my weekends
Starting point is 00:03:50 up with family time. It's starting to look like I'm dating her too. I know she means well, but it's getting to be a lot. If this is what it looks like with him long term, I'm not sure I'm ready for it. How do I set boundaries without hurting our relationship or hurting the relationship with my boyfriend. Signed, girlfriend needing boundaries. And I'm all for setting boundaries, even if they're uncomfortable, but this is a sensitive boundary. When it's the parents of the person you're dating, because they're the main line and also the person you're dating. So they can
Starting point is 00:04:24 pump in some toxins. You know what I mean? Especially if they're super close to the kid because the kid will listen to the mom more than the girlfriend nine times out of ten if they're close with the kid. Oh. The son.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Yeah. So this is what I'm going to say. Ghost her. What? What? Whoa. Whoa. What?
Starting point is 00:04:41 Pump the brakes. I don't know that that's the ideal thing to do. Okay, so this is a hard one to navigate. You've just got to be busy. lot and have enough knows for other reasons that she just stops asking as much. But you also have to commit to
Starting point is 00:04:58 this is that family dynamic. And this is going to be what it is where you do have to spend a lot of time with her if you spend a lot of time with him. But not all this time, but not all that. So your boundary is going to be drawn by you being a little too busy to do 60% of the things.
Starting point is 00:05:12 But you're still going to have to do a decent amount of them. She probably thinks you guys are best friends or she's auditioning you for the role of daughter-in-law. But the problem with just going, hey, this is my boundary, is that people that are older, I'm going to say older than TikTok, Instagram, consume content that's about mental health. Okay, that's the age when you weren't doing that. Is that if you set a boundary, they're going to be like, oh, you hate me.
Starting point is 00:05:42 Because they haven't learned enough about that because they weren't. Our age group is the first group that ever was really taught. hey, it's okay to set boundaries. And then we can watch Jay Shetty. We can watch whomever else and swipe out of it and learn about it. They're just like, oh, you hate me. Okay, I see you. So you got to be careful with people that are older than what the generation is.
Starting point is 00:06:03 So it's all I'm going to say to do. I mean, you could go start over that. That's probably not good for it. Remember that she is the line into her son. And he must be really close to her if she's hanging out with you a lot. You just got to be too busy to do a lot of stuff. don't get caught lying and then she'll slowly learn
Starting point is 00:06:21 she can't ask you to do as much stuff because you're busy too much nobody wants to be rejected all the time if I ask them to play pickleball three times they say no all three times I don't ask them ever again well she's probably not going to just disappear on asking all her things
Starting point is 00:06:32 because no but I don't ask them ever again meaning if the mom's asking a lot and she's getting a lot of no she's going to ask significantly less she's going to get some yeses wow you really have a rule of like three asks if it's a no no no you're done
Starting point is 00:06:43 yeah but that's not a good done right you're like no no you're done They're not dead to me in person, but they're my friends. Like my friend Bobo, Adam Bobo, is like, next time call him out, three times I've hit him up. I can't. Oh, I can't. Oh, I can't.
Starting point is 00:06:57 I'll never ask you again. Unless you happen to ask, are you guys playing anytime soon. But he's my friend. I saw him yesterday. Okay. And then it goes back into rotation of asks. If he's able to go, hey, if you're playing this week, I want to play, tell me when. He has to pursue it then.
Starting point is 00:07:12 That's healthy. No, it's not. Don't confuse yourself. It is not healthy. But if I do more than three and they keep saying no, in my head I'm going, they don't want to hang out with me at all. And then I spiral in an unhealthy way. So you just have to make yourself busy for 40% of these normal things, but you also have to do a lot of it too because that's going to be the dynamic with that family once you do get married if you get married. Or ghost a little.
Starting point is 00:07:38 That's the boundary you have to draw. It's not fair. But if it were somebody of your age, I would say you could literally just draw the boundary and say, hey, I can't hang out as much as we've been doing. but for those that are on social media and can't take in the content that you take in about mental health or your top mental health, it probably isn't going to go well. So that's your unhealthy answer. All right. Close it up. You've heard of flipping houses, but they flip appliances.
Starting point is 00:08:00 They buy washers, dryers, vacuums, water bottles, and then sell them for more. Here. We'll clear a million dollars in salesless here. You heard right. Kristen and Justin Herbert are flipping household products. It's called retail arbitrage. Buy lots of the same item at a low price. Then sell high.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Well, let's go make some money. On this day, the Herbert's raid the clearance aisle for water coolers that are 75% off. There you have it. Pretty good haul. They bought 10 water dispensers, planned to make $200 profit. Re-sell on Amazon for $500. There's some days where, like, we walk into a store and literally in 15 minutes find over $1,000 in profit. First, they search online for items that are popular right now, like these Contigo water bottles bought for $5 a box.
Starting point is 00:08:42 They'll be resold for $20. bucks. They make million dollars a year. I'm going to get my daughter to look into this. She's looking for a summer job. Your daughter, we have lunchbox right here. No, no, no, no. We will not be going into business with him running anything. Hold on. You made 87% profit and you guys are so mad. We waited two years to make 50 bucks. That is 87% profit. It doesn't matter to the percent. We could have given you a dollar and you gave us another dollar. So you made 100% profit is a dollar. No, we're not getting in business with you. We had to, we had to threaten you. get our money back. No, that you're wrong. I, you
Starting point is 00:09:15 didn't threaten them? No. You certainly made a threat. No, I explained to you why and you all went, oh. No, we did. We definitely didn't. I remember that. They make a million bucks flipping small items. Wow. Now, it's a lot of work. It reminds me of when Amy used to coupon and she
Starting point is 00:09:33 would coupon and she would go to the dump and go dumpster diving to find coupons, but it would take like six hours a day. Oh yeah, this is definitely before I had kids or of my husband was deployed at the time and we didn't have podcasts like I had a lot of time on my hand this is a long time ago it's something we could try yeah I wouldn't mind put together putting together the little group sans lunchbox and making a little money okay don't exclude him
Starting point is 00:09:58 well you have to now he's everything that he does with us we don't get our money back well he won't be in charge of the money but he can be a part of it uh well we'll have the a joy talk about it okay he's sad he looks sad maybe we've included we include him. I mean, I don't understand. You got more return on your money than you would have in the stock market. So in two years. Like, you're not going to make 80%. That's not true. And I know you saw a message say that. Percentage wise, yes, but we made 50, but it took two years to make $50. That was my point. It's not about percentage when the money is so low. And we had to tell you we're going to break your legs. No. Yes. I said we're going to pull all of our money out of the Navidia if you don't do it by Friday. And you know what? He did it by Friday. How are we doing on NVIDia? Can I get an update? I was selling the big case. That was the big mama, and that was what made me be able to come to you guys. The Pelican. We just said we wanted our money, and we want the rest of our money, too.
Starting point is 00:10:53 There's still more money to be made. There's still more money. No, there's no more money. We haven't sold anything. You have more products. I know, but there's more products you just sell. I'm trying. Some of them are crappy products, but I mean, we have a gas can with no lid.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Throw it away. Throw it away then. I'm trying to sell it still. I got it listed. Back to this story you brought to us. They have an Amazon store. front or something? They did say that.
Starting point is 00:11:15 They're selling it on Amazon. Anybody can pretty much build an Amazon storefront. You can? Really? We could sell whatever. We could sell stuff on Amazon. You have to create like a business. I mean, I have an Amazon storefront of products I use and just am recommending,
Starting point is 00:11:29 but I don't upload my own products that I purchased. It also do on eBay, though, too. Or Facebook Marketplace. Yeah, there's a lot of places. But then Facebook Marketplace, then you've got to go meet them. And that's dangerous for you to do because you do that crap all the time. Yeah. You just shut people's houses.
Starting point is 00:11:42 I'm here. and I'm very vulnerable. No one even knows where I am right now. Yeah, or they come to me. And you're like, can I have some rope with me in case you, I mean, you wouldn't want to tie me up with this rope, but I have some with me just in case. That's that one time I went to that guy's back office in his house.
Starting point is 00:11:56 You walked all the way through his house. Because his office was in the back. It was one door push and Amy was trapped in that room. Forever. Y'all would have never seen me again. But then from after that, I started taking lunchbox with me. Oh, that helps. That's right.
Starting point is 00:12:08 They got really scared when they saw him. But also, did you just stay in your car in the parking lot? Yeah, but he would go with me to like do the exchange. This was way, way, way, way back in the day. But again, didn't you stay in your car in the parking line? This was Craigslist, I think. Oh, that's even cheating. Yeah, that was Craigslist days.
Starting point is 00:12:24 That was Craigslist. This is before Facebook Marketplace was even a thing. A Delta flight was delayed two hours. People are mad. And they let a little girl sing on the overhead speaker for 45 minutes. No way. No, it's not. No, it's not.
Starting point is 00:12:37 What if she's a good singer? That's annoying. I don't want to go to a concert and have someone sing from. 45 minutes with no music, Acapella, much less a little girl on a microphone. They just let her go to town? Here's a clip. That's fun for about two minutes. She's good though, and what
Starting point is 00:13:04 if she sing jams? She doesn't. She sang Moana. Okay, that's too much. And she did 45 minutes of that. Yeah, one song is enough. Okay. Yeah, and then if you want to do something fun, like everybody gets a song, like karaoke, I get it, but even that gets to be annoying, it's 20 minutes and you're done. But they were delayed two hours. They were there for two hours.
Starting point is 00:13:24 and they let her sing for 45 minutes of that. That's too much. I'd have been trying to bust out the side window and crawl out. Get on the wing and then just take all running. Thoughts, Amy? Yeah, no. I'm all about her singing one or two songs. But after that, you need to keep the plane calm.
Starting point is 00:13:40 You run the risk of somebody getting way too annoyed. No one's going to yell at the kid like, not the kid. No, I think after 45 minutes, so they might be. Chuck the kid off. Not at the kid, but then like, take the kid off the speaker. I'm trying to go to sleep. It's hot in here.
Starting point is 00:13:57 I need food. I need water. Yeah, maybe. Any of that. You just like let people sit there in peace. And before we go on this segment, we talk about the games we play on this show. And there is a fella that keeps track and calls us once a year. And Amy had mentioned them, but generically.
Starting point is 00:14:13 But hit this, Ramundo. I've heard Amy a couple times mention whenever he's playing games. Like, oh, there's that guy that listens and, you know, Tallymese. up the scores at the end of every year. And that's cool. But if she wants to give me like a, hey, that's Tyler. That'd be cool. It'd be cool to hear my name every now and then. That's all.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Okay, Tyler. No, Tyler. Oh, my God. What just happened? It's time for the good news. With Amy. Tell me something. So last week, a soon-to-be bride and groom were on a flight to their wedding in Phoenix, Arizona.
Starting point is 00:14:50 And shout out to the staff on Alaska Airlines, because they had a really cute idea to have all the passengers on the plane that were married, write down to wedding advice on napkins or little pieces of paper and then pass it to the couple Kristen and Sam. They posted it out on social media, went viral, and it was just like a special moment for them to take in all of this advice. Like, you know, always acknowledge small gestures to maintain intimacy. If someone said, communicate, I want to punch them in the face. That's a good one, though.
Starting point is 00:15:19 It's not a real one. Communicate's not a real one. That can be for every relationship you've ever been in your whole life. you forget though. One couple who's been married 40 years gave advice to communicate. I'm not even right-handed but I go left-hand punch, right-hand punch. Never go to bed angry.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Also dumb. Give genuine compliments. Okay, that one I can sign up for. Some of them are just so generic and cliche, they actually don't mean nothing. It's wasted words. Yeah. And sometimes you just have to go to bed angry or like, are you just going to not sleep? And I think we've learned we need to prioritize sleep. Yeah, and not only that, Sometimes you fight way later at night. And I don't want to have to be up all night.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Exactly. You don't work in the morning, so we'll just handle it tomorrow. And sometimes you just need the space. So just go to bed and then maybe you wake up and you're like, what was I even mad about? No, no, that's never happened. I just need to go to bed. Wait, you never just like sleep? You never slept it off?
Starting point is 00:16:10 Nah. Oh. Yeah. I usually go to sleep same way I wake up. I don't seem to sleep that hard. You're like an elephant. Yeah, I never forget. I like it because it involves no one on the speaker.
Starting point is 00:16:22 No. I hate when they do stuff on the speaker. And people didn't have to do this. So they did this. I'm looking at it. They wrote long notes. That's really cool. You know someone did happy wife,
Starting point is 00:16:31 happy life, right? But that's true. That one I can agree with. Just to be funny? No, no. That's a real one. I used to think that was stupid only because it rhymed.
Starting point is 00:16:39 But no, there's a lot of truth to that one. Good story. That's what it's all about. That was tell me something good. We asked 2,000 Bobby Bone Show listeners name a famous person named Tom. Now I don't Google anything. Amy, lunchbox and Morgan.
Starting point is 00:16:55 Name a famous person named Tom. Amy? Tom Cruise. Show me Tom Cruise. Number three answer. I don't even have him. I was surprised there were so many famous people named Tom if I'm being honest. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Tom Cruise is three. Go ahead. Tom Hanks. Show me Tom Hanks. That's number two answer. Okay. Tom Green. Tom Green.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Number 10 answer. Who is that? 90s, 2000s, talk show host. Bobby had him over recently, huh? I did. Well, yeah, that sounds weird, but yes, I did. Number 10, go ahead. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:43 Tom. Tom Clancy. No, I'm sorry. That's way wrong. Sorry, it's no way to tell me about that. What's he do, right? Yeah, he's a writer. Lunchbox, you're up?
Starting point is 00:17:56 Yeah, give me Tom Brady. Oh, yeah. Show it. Number one. Correct. And what number? One. All right.
Starting point is 00:18:07 And there's some more Tom's out there, man. Let's go Tom. Tom. Tom. Tom. Tom. Tom. I think I'm being hypnotized right now.
Starting point is 00:18:21 I don't know why. Thomas Wrett. Thomas Wrett. All right, Morgan. I'm going to go with Mr. Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland. Tom Holland. Is he Spider-Man? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:35 British guy? Yeah. Show me Tom Holland. Dating Zendaya. Oh, that's who that got. That's right. That's right. Okay, all right.
Starting point is 00:18:45 You don't have to give us extra facts. You got it right. Oh, you do more extra facts. I know. I'm just, and yours are often wrong. I couldn't think of them. All right, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:18:53 This guy was low key, and he also dated Taylor Swift. His name is Tom Hiddleston. Show me Tom Hiddleston. What? Number nine answer. No chance. No chance.
Starting point is 00:19:05 So we have six off the board, Tom Brady, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Tom Holland. Tom Hiddleston and Tom Green. We're looking for a famous person named Tom. Morgan. Okay, this guy has also been in a lot of movies, and I know him as Benham.
Starting point is 00:19:19 His name is Tom Hardy. Show me Tom Hardy? This might be her game, guys. She, yeah. Tom Hardy is correct for number six. Morgan now takes the lead. There are three answers left. But that is where I end.
Starting point is 00:19:36 I mean, I went down my superhero list, and now I'm kind of stuck. Oh, my gosh. Um, oh, Tom. A lot of superheroes named Tom, though. Yeah. Yeah. I thought they were going to be young, though.
Starting point is 00:19:49 I had the ones Amy had, so now I'm lost. A famous person named Tom, Morgan? Um, Tom. Tom, nope. Five seconds? Yeah, Tom. Tom Reyes. Who is that?
Starting point is 00:20:06 She went to middle school. I don't know. It just sounded right. Tom Reyes. This happened right. All right, Amy, points are doubled. There are three answers left on the board. Can you name a famous Tom?
Starting point is 00:20:17 Yeah, who's the guy that dated? I'm not telling you an answer. You know that you can ask questions. I'm just like, hey, Tommy Lee. dated Pamela Anderson? But you do things where you don't give answers and you just kind of float things out to get reactions. No.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Are you saying? That's the only Tom I have on my paper. Are you saying Tommy Lee? Yes. Show me Tommy Lee. So Tommy Lee was a drummer of Motley Crew and yes, what's Pam Anderson? but didn't make the list.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Lunchbox points are doubled. You have one point. Yeah, can you tell me the score? Morgan 19, Amy 15, lunchbox one. And what letters, numbers are left? The origin, uh, five, seven, and eight.
Starting point is 00:20:57 So plenty of points. Yeah, okay, but I finally get one. Give me Tom Thumb. Show me. Little guy, Tom, thumb. Morgan, points are doubled. You're in the lead? Yeah, I feel like,
Starting point is 00:21:13 I'm naming a lot of celebrities Tom, but that's not really their name in my head. Tom the Rock. I was thinking that too. Tom Rock. So I was like, one of the last things. I feel like this is not right, but for some reason it makes sense. Tom Madden? Football guy?
Starting point is 00:21:33 Yeah. Yeah, yeah. That's John Madden. Okay. Okay, so points are triple. I don't know if I just thought of something is it rhymes or it's real. We asked 2000. She went with Tom Madden, so we asked 2,000 Bobby Bonesha listeners name a famous person named Tom.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Amy, points are tripled. Is there a Tom DeLong? Whoa! I don't know. Could be. Or is it Tom Delaney? I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Tom DeLong. I feel like we'd talk about that more. Who's Delaney? Tom Delaney. Is that your answer? Yeah. Show me Tom Delaney. Tom DeLong?
Starting point is 00:22:11 So, Tom Delaney, no idea. I'm sure there's one out there somewhere. Mike, who's Tom DeLong? Did I say? Yeah. Late senior of Blink 182. Yeah. Tom DeLong.
Starting point is 00:22:20 Didn't make the list, but since you brought it up and they were for sure weren't going to say it. I wasn't going to say that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Lunchbox, you need one to stay in the mix here. Hey, points are tripled, right? Yes, they are.
Starting point is 00:22:30 And this is why I didn't go with this guy last round that I had written down. Go ahead. Because this is a home run. Go ahead. Because I'm free. That's a good one. That's why we would Tom Thumb Thumb round two. I needed triple points.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Need a triple points. Give me Tom Petty Show me Tom Petty Yeah Give him for eight Number 5 Tom Petty's at 5
Starting point is 00:22:57 Now you have 16 points Morgan has 19 You need one of the final two here That wasn't enough man Tom Petty good though Good job Yeah Name a famous Tom
Starting point is 00:23:10 Well You have Tom Brady Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise At 1 2 and 3 Tom Holland Tom Petty and Tom Hardy at four, five, and six. Nine and ten are Tom Hiddleston and Tom Green.
Starting point is 00:23:21 You're looking for seven and eight. Yeah, I'm digging deep here. I'm trying to dig into my basket, my guts, my brain. I'm trying to use the right side and the left side. Trying to look for those tombs. And man, this may, this may not be anywhere near where we're going. Because I don't know if people know this guy. Are you saying words?
Starting point is 00:23:42 Yes. This is going to be an age thing? Okay, I need three, five seconds. But yeah, you watch the news. news and there's this guy he's a reporter his name is tom brokoff tom broke up he's hold on hold on what what what i said his name say it again no you can't count it for not saying that's his name no no but what's his name i i must not have heard you correct that go ahead tom broke off like he broke something off yeah tom broke off it's like broke off i don't know i broke off i don't know how to
Starting point is 00:24:17 say his name tom broke off Tom broke off. Why are you so into the phone? Yeah, I don't know. Tom broke off. Broke off. I don't broke off. You know what I'm saying it right.
Starting point is 00:24:27 Tom. Broke off. Broke him. Now you guys are making me think I don't know how to say it. Do you mean Tom broke off? Is that how you say it? See, you guys are confused of me now. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:42 Hey, give me my news. Show him, Tom, broke off. I'm sorry, that's incorrect. Morgan, you have one. Would you like to guess? Yeah. Well, I was thinking, like, I went fictional with Tom and Jerry, but I'm not going there. And I don't know if Thomas counts, but Thomas Jefferson.
Starting point is 00:25:00 All Tom's, not Thomas Jefferson. The guy's name is Tom Broke Off. Not Broke Off. There's no. It's Brokeaw, A-W. But I still didn't make the list. I don't worry. The table was about to get flipped.
Starting point is 00:25:17 Number seven, how about this? It's not unusual to be loved by anyone. Tom. Tommy Tune. Hey there, pussy cat. Oh, no. I mean, I know, I know those songs. Tom.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Tom. The long. Tom Jones. Who? I don't know him. The singer. And then the next one, number eight, was a mustache. Tom.
Starting point is 00:25:47 Sellick. Yeah. Bye. Dang. Wait, is that Monica's boyfriend? Yes. Yeah, Monica's boyfriend on friends. The eye doctor.
Starting point is 00:25:56 That's how I know. That's correct. And so winning, so she will not, you don't have to go home next round. You'll be back in. Morgan is our winner. My strategy was brilliant. What was it? The Tom Petty.
Starting point is 00:26:05 I had him and I was like, oh, I need triple points. I had to wait to the third round. It wasn't brilliant. It didn't work. No, it kept me in the game. But I was hoping it was eight. Yeah, yeah. I hear you.
Starting point is 00:26:15 I mean, it was a brilliant strategy just hoping that none of them got it. But it didn't work. It didn't work, but it was the right play. So when people were like, why would you guess Tom? But even if you would have guessed it then, it still would have been the exact same scenario in round three because you didn't win either way. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:26:30 But my strategy was correct. Okay, thank you. You can have opinions. You can have like a strong stance. And then there's your body having its own program. I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist and hosts of the podcast, a slight change of plans. a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans.
Starting point is 00:26:54 We share stories and scientific insights to help us all better navigate these periods of turbulence and transformation. There is one finding that is consistent, and that is that our resilience rests on our relationships. I wish that I hadn't resisted for so long the need to change. We have to be willing to live with a kind of uncertainty that none of us likes. Listen to a slight change of plans on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I feel like it was a little bit unbelievable until I really start making money. It's Financial Literacy Month, and the podcast, Eating While Broke, is bringing real conversations about money, growth, and building your future. This month, hear from top streamer, Zoe Spencer, and venture capitalist Lakeisha Landrum Pierre,
Starting point is 00:27:49 as they share their journeys from starting out to leveling up. If I'm outside with my parents and they're seeing all these people come up to me for pictures, it's like, what? Today now, obviously, it's like 100%. They believe everything. But at first, it was just like, you got to go get a real job. There's an economic component to community striving. If there's not enough money and entrepreneurship happening in communities, they fail. And what I mean by fail is they don't have money to pay for food.
Starting point is 00:28:15 They cannot feed their kids. They do not have homes. Communities don't work unless there's money flowing through them. Listen to Eating While Broke from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. When you listen to podcasts about AI and tech and the future of humanity, the hosts always act like they know what they're talking about and they are experts at everything. Here at the Nick Dick and Poll show, we're not afraid to make mistakes. What Coogler did that I think was so unique. He's the writer-director.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Who do you think he is? I don't know. You meet the, like, the president? You think Canada has a president? You think China has a president? The law crusade. God, I love that thing. I use it all the time.
Starting point is 00:29:01 I wrap it in a blanket and sing to it at night. It's like the old Polish saying, not my monkeys, not my circus. Yep. It was a good one. I like that saying. It is an actual Polish saying. It is an actual thing. Better version of Play Stupid Games, win stupid prizes.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Yes. Which, by the way, wasn't Taylor Swift, who said that for the first time. I actually, I thought it was. I got that wrong. Listen to the Nick, Dick, and Paul show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On a recent episode of the podcast,
Starting point is 00:29:32 Money and Wealth with John Hobriant, I sit down with Tiffany the budgetista Aliche to talk about what it really takes to take control of your money. What would that look like in our families if everyone was able to pass on wealth to the people when they're no longer here? We break down budgeting, financial discipline,
Starting point is 00:29:49 and how to build real, real wealth, starting with the mindset shifts. Too many of us were never, ever taught. Financial education is not always about, like, I'm going to get rich. That's great. It's about creating an atmosphere for you to be able to take care of yourself and leave a strong financial legacy for your family. If you've ever felt you didn't get the memo on money, this conversation is for you to hear more. Listen to Money and Wealth with John O'Brien from the Black.

So I'm Leanne. Yeah. This is my best friend Janet. Hey. And we have been joined at the hips since high school. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:30:37 Now a redacted amount of years later, we're still joined at the hip. Just a little bit bigger hips. It's wider. This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey. With all the snacks and... drink. Sidebar.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? They had a bogo. Well, then you got it. Do you want a white collar or something here? Just a hit it. Oh, what are y'all doing? Microphones? Are you making a rap album?
Starting point is 00:31:01 Oh, I would. Come on. Can you believe? I would buy it. Cuts through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake. That sounds delicious. Oh, you're lucky. I'm not a drug addict.
Starting point is 00:31:13 You're lucky. I'm not an alcoholic. You are. I'm not a killer. I love this team, and I'm really trying to be a figure in their line. that they can rely on. Oh. Listen to soccer moms on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:31:32 I gave nobody a heads up on this question. I'll give you guys about 30 seconds to think about it. It's the most overrated band ever. Oh, lunch is quick. Well, this might be the easiest question. That was easy. Okay. Now, overrated can still mean a good band, but maybe people think they're great.
Starting point is 00:31:52 A great band, people think they're the best ever. A bad band, people think are good. So overrated doesn't mean not good only. So most overrated band ever, about 10 more seconds. Amy, you good? Now, I gave nobody prep that this was going to happen. So this is all just coming off the top of your head. Most overrated band ever.
Starting point is 00:32:23 Amy. Nirvana. What? Wow, okay. What did they do to you? Wow, you are a hater. Well, I just feel like he died. Nobody's right. Nobody's wrong. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:32:33 He died and then that catapulted it to like, I don't know. It just seems like it's legendary, but they really weren't even around that long. Accurate statement. And I do think his death did create a lifetime of fame and meaning for Nirvana. They did create an entire sound or at least make that sound popular in pop. And I love Nirvana. I'm not going to be offended because everybody has the right. And I can even accept that they could have been overrated.
Starting point is 00:33:04 That doesn't mean they weren't good. Right, you just said that. Before we went to it, you said before. I know, yeah. It doesn't mean that not good. I love Nirvana's a big part on childhood. So I'm trying not to be offended here. But I think that's a good answer.
Starting point is 00:33:17 And a lot of people probably feel that way. That are dumb. Anyway. Exactly. Did I say that out loud? Oh, I thought that was only in my head. Okay. Good answer.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Mm-hmm. Okay. Morgan. Most overrated band ever. You're not right. You're not wrong. Go ahead. There's going to be somebody in the studio that's really mad about this.
Starting point is 00:33:35 Go ahead. But they've talked about this band so much that I decided to listen to him because I didn't grow up on him. It's got to be Pearl Jamminetti. Oh my God. It's got to be Pearl Jam and Eddie. I'm going to get triggered. Yes. Go ahead, Morgan.
Starting point is 00:33:46 He's talked about this so much. He's so obsessed. All he wants to do is see them go to every concert they have. And I was like, let me go look into this band. So I listened for all about five minutes. And man, Pearl Jam is just not my damn. This is so dumb. That's the last.
Starting point is 00:33:59 hilarious. I love it. I love that she went to go listen to them, though. That's good. Hey, you're curious. Yeah. Open mind. I was trying because he's so in love with them. They had to be good. What was it that you didn't like about him? They were just kind of basic. It was all about the same. I didn't really feel excited. I like to get excited with songs. And every song I was just like, cool. I'm bored. I'm bored. I'm moving on. Wow. I like Pearl Jam. I don't love Pearl Jam. I like Pearl Jam. That's Eddie's favorite. What's up? They're definitely not overrated. Nobody's right, nobody's wrong. Stupid. Nobody's right, nobody's wrong. Thank you. Thank you, Morgan. Lunchbox.
Starting point is 00:34:38 You wrote down, you went quick. Yeah. Go ahead. I saw this band one time in person, Austin City Limits, ACL. And I mean, one song took 45 minutes. Dave Matthews band. They suck. They are so awful.
Starting point is 00:34:53 That it just feels like the worst. Why would you say that? I mean, people love that band. he gets so much love and they are horrendously bad. I just think you don't like jam bands. Oh my gosh. Did Dave Matthews band, that like jam band also like Grateful Dead? It's pre them, yes.
Starting point is 00:35:11 Grateful Dead fish. But Dave Matthews Band actually had hits too, which was a rare combination. That other one, my friend travels the country watching them. Widespread Panics, another one. Yeah. It's that version. And I'm not big into that, but Dave is awesome. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:35:26 He's so talented. No, they would sing, and then they would play the guitar for 12 minutes with no words. And it was like, what are we doing? They're jamming. Now, I'm not a fan of the concerts either. But I think you can not be a fan of those songs sometimes. They're like, you know, and you're really, she's been times and then they start it again.
Starting point is 00:35:50 Oh, man, I can fill you on the jam band part. I don't like anything like that. But that might be the dump. I think they're in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are. I think Nirvana's the Rock and Hall of Fame. So is Pearl Jam. Are they?
Starting point is 00:36:01 Yeah. Yes, they are. They're overrated rock and roll. Yeah, I kind of love Dave Matthews, man. I think they're awesome. Okay. But no one's wrong. Nah, that one's kind of wrong.
Starting point is 00:36:11 I think you don't like the style more than the band. Maybe. That was the first time. I mean, I don't listen to their music, but that was the first time I really sat there and I was like, oh my God. And my buddy John loves them. And he's like, this is so good. I might, dude. He has been on the same song for 45 minutes.
Starting point is 00:36:26 You don't like the style. You would hate all those bands then. I think you think jam bands are overrated then. Okay, jam bands. I didn't know that was a term. But do you know like, let me give a few. Do you know like a crash into me? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:40 I know that one. Good one? That's a fine song. It's a fine song. You don't hate it. I don't hate it, but I... She's been down sound and toura. It's not the same song?
Starting point is 00:36:51 No, a different song. Okay, then I probably know it because I recognize that. Space between. Is that the same song you just saying? Nah, I didn't know. I did a bad impression. Okay, okay. Nobody's right, nobody's wrong.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Yeah. Okay. Hey, Ray, do you have one? Overrider band? Yeah, give me the Beatles. Oh, my goodness. I was going to say that. Can we end the segment?
Starting point is 00:37:12 I can understand it. I don't agree, but I can understand it. They sound whiny. Well, and I may sound incorrect in saying this. They're British. They sound British. Ed Shearin did a great job of becoming Americanized. I just feel like all their music sounds like it's across the pond.
Starting point is 00:37:25 That's where they're from though Right, I'm not into that I want American people Interesting And it's just the one song I know But rock and roll is kind of a mix Of black influence And European influence too
Starting point is 00:37:38 Like that's really what rock and roll is Any of the white artists stole from it And look at the greatest rock and roll bands of all time The Beatles Levona Led Zeppelin Like The Who
Starting point is 00:37:50 I hear you You're not right, you're not wrong But I can understand people saying the Beatles because the Beatles are the number one tier of the biggest band of all time. And some people may not agree with that. Yeah. Like you?
Starting point is 00:38:00 I don't agree with it. I mean, I don't agree with Ray either, but I can see where that comes from. And here's what I'm going to put in this three. And I just read a whole interview. They're on the front of a magazine. And I like them fine, but they're not the God tier. You too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:13 What is wrong with all you guys? These are all great bands. I didn't say they were bad or even mid. That are very well rated. Okay, but I think they're overrated. Yeah. You guys are great. Good songs.
Starting point is 00:38:25 It's a beautiful day. Oh, yeah. Yeah, you like that one, Amy, right? I do. I like that one. And I still haven't found what I'm looking for. That's a good one. Yeah, nobody's right, nobody's wrong.
Starting point is 00:38:37 With or without you. Good song. That's you too. Yeah. With or without you. It's great. One love. But they're not God tier, as they call that top, top, top tier.
Starting point is 00:38:49 They're not that. Really? You too? Yeah. I'd put like that. I'd put like Dave and Nirvana. We're rattling off all their songs. But I can, yeah, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:38:59 I know. I like them. I like them. If they came to town and they're playing on a Wednesday night in town, I would not go. Eddie, Eddie would. 100%. I would drag you along with me. I would not go.
Starting point is 00:39:12 ACDC, if they came and played, I would go on Wednesday night. What? Over you two? Yeah. I don't get it. I don't understand any of you guys. What about Dave Matthews on Wednesday night? We're going.
Starting point is 00:39:22 If Dave would play the songs and not. play 50 minute versions, but that's not my style. Like, their fans love that. I would go to a date Matthews concert again because they're really good, but they just play the jam band thing's not for me. I like to sing along with song. They have a ton of hits. She's been on Sunday someday.
Starting point is 00:39:40 Most jam band people, they're partaking in other things, right? For sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Life and love and the pursuit of happiness? Yeah. Okay, that's all. I just wanted to see. Whoa, whoa, I haven't gone yet.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Why did you skip me? This was the easiest question I've ever gotten in my life. Why are you yelling? Go ahead. Because you're going to skip me because you know what my answer is. Go ahead. The most overrated band ever. And this goes in the category of bad band, but people love them. It's Nickelback.
Starting point is 00:40:10 They are terrible. Why does this band even exist? You are such an uneducated. You see a cliche and chase it down like it's your mom. You're a hater. I think I started this cliche. You don't. Let's do another question that could get us in trouble.
Starting point is 00:40:27 Perfect. Amy? Yeah. Okay. So I saw this question on Instagram and I instantly called my sister. I was like, hey, would you take this offer? If you were offered $200 million to never speak to your sibling again, would you take it? 200 million.
Starting point is 00:40:43 200 million to never speak to your sibling again. Yeah. What? Yeah. And I would cut her off some. Some. How much? Half. Five million.
Starting point is 00:40:55 And be like, hey, look, I can't talk to you anymore. Here's five million bucks. Yeah. And then I, yeah, I think it'd be better for both of us. Wow. Hmm. You should at least give her half, though, because that's... Why would I get her half?
Starting point is 00:41:07 Because... They didn't make her the offer. I'm sure she'd take it the whole thing, too. 200 million? And five million's nice. Yeah. That's very good. Yeah, I'd cut her off five million and go, here you go.
Starting point is 00:41:16 Hey, look. Another personal. Nice knowing you. You understand, right? What? Okay. I couldn't do it. I couldn't do it. I called my sister and she said she wouldn't take it either.
Starting point is 00:41:27 But then I'm like, but would you really not take it? For $200 million. No way. At your age, you've already lived half your life. Yeah, no. No, I need my sister. She's all I have left pretty much. You could buy 10 sisters for $200 million. In my family, though, like my bloodline, like we've lost our mom, we've lost our dad. I need to talk to my sister. She has to be in my life.
Starting point is 00:41:47 That would be, I don't know that I'd be able to like enjoy the money knowing that I cut off my relationship with your sister. I'd learn real quick. I'm not as close to my sister as you are yours. So that's probably a reason. I know I'd set her up, five million bucks. And I think she would also say, I think she would not talk to me again for five million. Yeah. If someone just said, there's five million bucks, do you not talk to your brother again? I think she would say yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, that's just it. Yeah, you'll learn as close, I guess. Yeah. I still think you'd consider it, Amy. I have considered it. No, I mean, if someone really, they open the cases, plop, plop, plop, plop, plop. That's all the cases opening.
Starting point is 00:42:23 All those briefcases open up. I understand that that's completely life-changing, but so is not ever talking to my sister again. 200 million, Amy says she would not do it. I would do it. Lunchbox? I would never talk to my brother again. What about your brother and your parents?
Starting point is 00:42:39 And your sister. You have a sister, too. For 200 million. Yeah, yes, that's what I'm saying. It only said one sibling. He didn't say all siblings. And you can't get communication to them either. You can't go through your sister.
Starting point is 00:42:47 Yeah, like I'm saying, my brother, the only time he calls me is fantasy football season to talk football. Besides that, the other six, seven months of the year, I don't hear from them. So, bye, Joe, enjoy your life, and I'll catch you in the afterlife. Are you going to give him any? No. Okay, you're just going to disappear? What if you can only disappear and never say why?
Starting point is 00:43:06 That's fine. Okay. Absolutely. Bye, bye, Joe. See you later, man. We don't talk much anyway. We're not that close. And no, I can't get your tickets to the concert.
Starting point is 00:43:13 So what about your mom and dad and sister and brother? Oh. For 200 million. You can't do that. Man, I don't know. Well, my parents are towards the end. Oh, my, my. Well, that's why Amy and I couldn't have this version because our parents are dead or we don't know them.
Starting point is 00:43:28 Yeah, like, my parents are 70. So it's not like... Yeah, but you talk to them every day. Right. But they could still have 20 years left. They may not have 200 days left, bro. That's what I'm saying. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:37 Oh, my gosh. I went 20 years. Am I allowed to go to their funeral? Can you say bye? Oh, yeah. They're dead, dude. All right, I'm in. Okay.
Starting point is 00:43:44 There you go. I'm in. I'm in. They'd probably want you to take it anyway. Yeah, they would. Exactly. They'd be like, listen, man. We've had enough to talk about like...
Starting point is 00:43:52 I think they'd be like, look, it's fine. Eddie, 200 million. Never talked to your brother again. I mean, oh, my brother, I was going to pick my sister. Oh, you've been to say yes to that one? Well, I haven't talked to my sister in like two months anyway. You know what I mean? And when we talk, it's always just like, you good?
Starting point is 00:44:05 Yeah, I'm good. All right. See you later. So I would take the money for sure. And I'm like you. I think they would completely understand. How come you didn't say you're like me you'd cut him in on the money, though? Because I thought that's what you were going to say.
Starting point is 00:44:17 No, no, I wouldn't give him any of the money. What? Why? You guys, it's so much money. If you're going to take it, you might as well cut off a little bit for them. Oh, my gosh. You can't even spend $200 million.
Starting point is 00:44:28 You're so cheap. $100,000. And they would 100% understand why I'm doing it. Like, if they didn't understand, they're crazy. You can't tell them. Oh, really? You just disappear. But they can see me in like, you know, in my sailboat, right?
Starting point is 00:44:42 But they're like, well, Eddie got rich somehow and won't even talk to us now. Oh, yeah, that is a bad look. Do you care about the look? Not really. I'm rich. You can retire. Yes, dude. Hey, who needs a 401k that you haven't been building?
Starting point is 00:44:53 Exactly. That's it. That's my retirement right there. So, Amy is the only one that wouldn't. I'm the only one that cut somebody in. And you two guys, you're just slime balls. Yeah, it's $200 million. You can't cut them in.
Starting point is 00:45:07 But, like, I have a wife and kids. Yeah, but you don't spend that. You have 200 million. And no one said it's tax. No, what I'm saying is I have people around me. Like, you know, some people, like, they don't have anyone. I understand it. They only have their siblings.
Starting point is 00:45:18 I get that. around me and I don't think I can accept that money. It's time for the good news. With producer Eddie. Evan Sterling, he's 16 years old, lives in North Carolina and he loves going to the guitar store, right? He's only
Starting point is 00:45:37 been playing for about five months. He goes in there, plugs in his guitar and the amp and plays a little bit and people can hear you. Well, out of nowhere, a stranger comes up and says, hey man, you play it really good. I want you to have my guitar. And he gives them a Fender Telecaster worth over $1,500.
Starting point is 00:45:54 Doesn't say anything, says here, this used to be mine, take it, I want you to have it, and he walks out the store. That's pretty cool. And also made me think of a funny bit for lunchbox. He goes into a guitar store, plugs in. He actually can't play for crap, but he's like, what do you think about this one? Clang, clang, chung.
Starting point is 00:46:09 Turns it up real loud. How funny would that be? That'd be funny. And he's totally serious about the whole thing. And he's like trying, what if I solo? Like three guitars. It's like, which one do you think sounds best? I think that's a funny bit.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Maybe someone would give you the guitar. Oh, maybe like, oh, we... Yeah, to leave, just to leave. Yeah, here, just get out of here. Oh, that's funny. Stop playing. I mean, the real treat would be if he's playing and he actually turns out to be good,
Starting point is 00:46:35 he's never practiced, but he has one of these minds. All this is, do, do, do, do, do... I could be a genius. No genius. I don't think he's ever said that. You don't think a genius has ever thought, maybe I'm a genius? Uh-uh.
Starting point is 00:46:47 You don't think I'd sign. Not before they're proven a genius. I think a genius kind of backs into it. Oh, I figured like Einstein in like second grades and they're going, I think I might be a genius because I'm so much smarter than the teacher. But I think he had reasons to think that. Hello. Hello.
Starting point is 00:47:04 Have you not seen me? That's great story. There you go. That's what it's all about. That was tell me something good. Now time for Amy's morning corny. The morning corny. What do you get from a dwarf cow?
Starting point is 00:47:19 A dwarf cow, what? Condensed milk. Okay. That was the morning corny. Tuesday, reviews day. I'll go first. Friends and Neighbors on Apple Plus. John Hamm from Madman.
Starting point is 00:47:35 Finished it. I like him. I don't love him. But he was really good in this. He was also really, he was a great infargo. But I never watched Mad Men, so I never fell in love with him from that show. You should go watch that. I'm good.
Starting point is 00:47:47 It's too old at this point. No. No. I'm not watching that or Friday Night Lights or The Sopranos. Gosh, I was just about to bring both of those up. I put my foot down. I'm not watching any of those. I'm all good.
Starting point is 00:47:56 You're just being stubborn. No. I give it four and a half out of five paintings. Really good. Starts off a little slow, but I give it four and a half out of five paintings. I'll leave it there. I also watched The Eitronaut on Netflix. My wife quit one episode in, so I had to watch this like late at night or early in the morning before I came to work.
Starting point is 00:48:17 And it's from Argentina. I do subtitles and I make them speak English, even though their mouth doesn't match. And what works for me is I can't see that well anyway, so it kind of looks like it matches. Yeah. My vision is not precise. And anybody else watch this, by the way? No. No, you're not even heard of it.
Starting point is 00:48:36 Okay, so it's about the snow that starts coming down and the snow starts killing everybody. And that's all I'm going to say. The deadly snowstorm that kills millions of people except it's not like a normal snowstorm because they're in Argentina. And there's not a lot of snow in Argentina. Okay. So I'm going to give it three and a half out of five snows. However, the first three or four episodes, I'd have given like one snow. It kept going.
Starting point is 00:48:58 I did, and it definitely got better. I can say no more. I can say no more. I will watch, if they do another season, I'll watch the other, I'll watch the next season. Like the fact that the first couple episodes were one and it's in another language and it's sometimes, and it's like. There's so many things against this. I know. I wouldn't recommend why.
Starting point is 00:49:18 I wouldn't recommend it. Okay. But I will watch season two if it comes out. So I watched the Eternot and Friends and Neighbors. Amy, anything? I watched The Better Sister on Amazon with Jessica Beal. Yeah. She's one married to Justin Timberlake, right?
Starting point is 00:49:31 Yes. Yeah, that Jessica. And it's pretty good. Oh, it's her in Elizabeth Banks. Yes, Elizabeth Banks is also in it. Whenever I see her, I just see Effie Trinket from Hunger Games. But so good. So shocked.
Starting point is 00:49:44 My daughter's the one that pointed it out. It was sort of in the box. It released, I think, on the 29th of May. So my daughter was like, that one looks really good. You should watch that. And so I clicked on it. What you read it? Couldn't stop.
Starting point is 00:49:56 I give it four out of five switchblades. Mike D? Movie Mike? Anything from you? I watched a movie called Bring Her Back. So far the best horror movie of the year. For the first time, I had nightmares from watching a horror movie. Bring her back.
Starting point is 00:50:09 Yeah, it's about these kids who their dad dies and then they had to go live with this foster parent and she's into like some bizarre crazy rituals. Freaky, man. It's unsettling. Did you like having nightmares? I did. Weirdo. So weird. What do you give it?
Starting point is 00:50:22 I give it four out of five foster parents. Oh. I just think about Eddie because Eddie was a bunch of parent before you. That's what I started thinking about. I was like, oh, man. You can have opinions. You can have like a strong stance. And then there's your body having its own program.
Starting point is 00:50:43 I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist and hosts of the podcast, a slight change of plans, a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans. We share stories and scientific insights to help us all better navigate these periods of turbulence and transformation.
Starting point is 00:51:35 It's Financial Literacy Month, and the podcast, Eating While Broke is bringing real conversations about money, growth, and building your future. This month, hear from top streamer, Zoe Spencer, and venture capitalist Lakeisha Landrum Pierre, as they share their journeys from starting out to leveling up. If I'm outside with my parents and they're seeing all these people come up to me for pictures, it's like, what? Today now, obviously, it's like 100%. They believe everything. But at first, it was just like, you got to go get a real job. There's an economic component to communities thriving.
Starting point is 00:52:08 If there's not enough money and entrepreneurship happening in communities, they fail. And what I mean by fail is they don't have money to pay for food. They cannot feed their kids. Here, the Nick Dick and Poll show, we're not afraid to make mistakes.
Starting point is 00:52:42 What Coogler did that I think was so unique. He's the writer-director. Who do you think he is? I don't know. You meet the, like, the president? You think Canada has a president? You think China has a president? Lozah Crosette.
Starting point is 00:52:58 God, I love that thing. I use it all the time. I wrap it in a blanket and sing to it at night. It's like the old Polish saying, not my monkeys, not my circus. Yep. It was a good one. I like that saying. It is an actual Polish saying.
Starting point is 00:53:12 Yeah. It is an actual point. Better version of Play Stupid Games, win stupid prizes. Yes. Which, by the way, wasn't Taylor Swift, who said that for the first time. I actually, I thought it was. I got that wrong. Listen to the Nick, Dick, and Paul show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On a recent episode of the podcast, Money and Wealth with John Hobriant, I sit down with Tiffany the budgetista Aliche to talk about what it really takes to take control of your money.
Starting point is 00:53:40 What would that look like in our families if everyone was able to pass on wealth to the people when they're no longer here? We break down budgeting, financial discipline, and how to build real. real wealth, starting with the mindset shifts.
Starting point is 00:54:17 Listen to Money and Wealth with John O'Brien from the Black. Black Effect Network on the I'd Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Anna Navarro, and on my new podcast, Bleep with Anna Navarro. I'm talking to the people closest to the biggest issues happening in your community and around the world. Because I know deep down inside right now, we are all cursing and asking what the bleep is going on. I'm talking to people like Julie K. Brown, who broke the explosive story on Jeffrey Epstein in 2018. These victims have been let down time and time again for decades and decades by local law enforcement, by federal law enforcement, by administration after administration. The Justice Department through, I think we counted four presidential administrations, failed these victims.
Starting point is 00:55:12 Listen to Bleep with Anna Navarro as part of the My Cultura podcast network, available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or work. wherever you get your podcasts. lunchbox claims that Morgan's spamming the office. I think somebody's going to get upset at this, but go ahead. Oh my goodness. She sent out a whole company-wide email, Nashville All. Hey, guys, look at me. I won this award or I'm going to be in some magazine, some bullcrap.
Starting point is 00:56:16 I don't even understand what it was. Okay, but how do you call it bullcrap if you don't know what it was? Then this is where it gets hilarious. Like, I would love your support and I get a special award if I sell the most tickets to this thing. So I'd love for you to come and you click. on the link and I'm thinking oh 10, 20 bucks. Okay, people can come. $134 to go
Starting point is 00:56:34 with Morgan to this event. I mean, I don't know who Morgan thinks she is, but paying $134 to go to this thing, outrageous. And I think Morgan was also fishing for replies, like, oh, so proud of you, so congrats. Not a single reply.
Starting point is 00:56:50 Cricket. Not a reply all. Maybe they replied to her. Nobody replied. Is any of this rooted in the fact that the news asked her? No, no. I just saw this. To do this celebrity softball game and not you?
Starting point is 00:57:01 No, it just came across my email and I'm like, oh my goodness, she is fishing for people to love on her looking for it. And she's wanting people to support her and just, oh, I'll come, I'll come, I'll come. $134. Oh, geez. So I do have the email here. I don't check more work email having in yours. So I didn't get it, but I can read it here. Hey, everybody.
Starting point is 00:57:21 I hate to blow everyone's inbox up. I wanted to share some exciting news. I was chosen as a in-focused, fresh faces of philanthropy for 2025. And it's about her and her dog Remy and they've been going to old folks home. Is that the proper thing to say? Yeah, older folks. Why not? Yeah, sure.
Starting point is 00:57:37 Senior living community. I can probably pick the better words. And she's been going with the therapy dog, her dog, Remy. And so they nominated you or gave you an award. What was it? Yeah, they nominated me. Aves Garden nominated me for this award through InFocus and InFocus selected me. And so you sent the email out and I'm seeing the link here.
Starting point is 00:57:56 So what do you get for the, is it $130 bucks? Well, so, okay, I sent it out. I don't care about the award that you get in the night. I was just trying to be fully transparent. But what happens, if I were to win that award, a huge donation would go to Apes Garden. Oh. So it was really... How close are you to winning the award?
Starting point is 00:58:12 I don't know. I won't know until that night of. They don't tell us. So in like, I send this to Abes Garden. We sent it to a whole bunch of people trying to just see how much money we could raise in hopes that Aves Garden will be the winner. And do you have a bunch of people going as you accept your award? Yeah, there's a bunch of people through Aves Garden.
Starting point is 00:58:28 And I thought it would be cool from people from work because it's an opportunity for community and charity. You just never know who somebody knows and how a senior living community is impacting somebody else. So that's why I send it out. I never send national all emails. An individual ticket is 125. What if we buy a ticket and don't go? That's fine. You can totally do that.
Starting point is 00:58:48 What? Oh, well, I guess the, is the evening benefiting something or whatever you're buying the ticket for goes to whoever wins? It will go to whoever wins. So they're all, regardless, the money will go to charity. Perfect. Okay. Regardless. I'm just hoping it goes to my charity. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:59:03 Yeah. There's a bring a crowd bundle. Ticket bundle includes a minute for 10 guests, reserve seating, featured businesses or company logo, BEPI swag bags, special recognition. Do you have 10 people? Do you have 10 people doing that? Do you have 10 more people? I don't know. Is your boyfriend going?
Starting point is 00:59:23 Yeah, but he's coming with me. So that was like by way of. If you can get $10 people to go, I will buy a table. Okay. Oh, so like, Bobby buys the table, Morgan fills it. Because we're not going, right? Well, you can, I will buy the $2,000 table. Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:59:42 Wow. But I am not going to go. That's okay. You don't have to go, but that would be really, really kind of you. Maybe hilarious to have an empty table. Just buy the table. No, but on the table, we'll put, I'll put like a logo or something of the show or the podcast. Morgan, I already, I have a conflict that night. I do too or I would go.
Starting point is 00:59:58 That's okay. My conflict is, I don't want to go. I would legit have another thing. It's okay. Okay. And I was not fishing. And yes, people did respond individually because I said at the bottom, if you have any questions, respond individually, I know how much it sucks to get blown up by all email. I also cannot go because it's at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025.
Starting point is 01:00:21 But I will buy a table for $2,000. and will that if you can fill it and we'll put a logo up whatever they want us to do. Do they serve dinner? Yeah, there's appetite. My wife and me and kids are in. No, you're not invited. Got them. That can be fun.
Starting point is 01:00:38 No, don't be on his side. He just insulted her and brought the whole thing up. Now there's dinner involved. But if someone's paying for something. No, not someone, me. That's what I'm saying. That means I'll go. Okay, Abby, maybe.
Starting point is 01:00:48 I will buy a table and then see if you can find the 10 people to be at the table. Okay, I can do that. And hopefully all the money. And if it doesn't, it goes to something. something good, right? Yes. Okay, I'll buy a table. That's really kind of you, Bobby. I didn't get the email. I mean, you did, but you didn't check it. Yeah. Well, I don't know. I didn't check that thing in years, man. I'll be honest with you. Okay. Congratulations. Thank you. That's really cool. You've been doing a lot of great work. That's mostly one of buying a table because you've been
Starting point is 01:01:09 working hard at this for, not just for a year for a long time. You even got your dog certified to be a therapy dog. Yeah. What? How long do you go to the old folks home? We go several times a month. She went and did a podcast with all the old people too, or the elder. I don't know. Older people. I don't want to get canceled like 10 years for saying the wrong thing about old people. Most politically correct is senior living community. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:32 That's a lot of words, though. That is. That is. SLC. Yes. Salt Lake City. Can't have those initials. Okay.
Starting point is 01:01:39 Morgan, I'm going to buy that. You get the people to go and we'll put a logo of something up there. Maybe we'll do it. Lunchbox's head. No, you give him all the credit. No. Okay. That's true.
Starting point is 01:01:50 That's true. That's true. On the Bobby Bones show now. Megan Maroney. Megan, really good to see you. Good to see you. I have said multiple times, even publicly, I think you are this generation's songwriter,
Starting point is 01:02:03 like the artist songwriter of today. Thoughts. Thoughts on me claiming, proclaiming you the greatest artist songwriter of today. That's a huge compliment. It is. It's a huge one, yes. And I really appreciate that.
Starting point is 01:02:14 I always consider myself a songwriter first, so those compliments mean a lot. What do you mean by that as songwriter first? I can't do all the extra stuff and all the bells and whistles without the songs being good. And I think that it all started with me just writing me and my guitar on my bedroom floor. You know, so. What was the first song you wrote where you thought, man, I think I might can do this.
Starting point is 01:02:38 It was hair salon that came out on my, that's my favorite song. Really? Oh, yeah. Oh my gosh. Yeah, your favorite song. Thanks, thanks. Because I'm from a small town. So you get it.
Starting point is 01:02:46 Yeah. Yeah. Bernadette's real. And that song's crazy too because I had a dream that that happened. that I found out that my favorite ex got engaged at the hair salon. So it didn't actually happen, but it happened in my dream, and then we wrote about it. So you had a dream that turned into a song? Yes.
Starting point is 01:03:02 Do you ever have dreams? Because I'll have dreams and I'll dream of jokes if I'm going to write it to do on stage, and I kind of write them down, and then I wake up and I have no idea what I just wrote. Like I have no idea. Yeah, no, I do that. I always make sure to write it down, but then sometimes I'm like not sure I was going with that. Will you ever sing a melody asleep, wake up? Do you ever get melodies while you're sleeping?
Starting point is 01:03:19 Are those ever any good? Sometimes, yeah. Man, I wish I could dream songs. I wish I could dream anything good. I can't even dream. I don't sleep well. Do you sleep well? As of late, no. But that's because I'll get off stage and I'm a little amped up. You know, we're back on tour. How long until you can fall asleep after a show? Let's say you're off at 11.30. How long until you actually fall asleep? 2.30 at least. And that's if I put my phone down and stuff. I was watching one of your TikToks and you were taking a tour of the bus and you were showing like the pillows. That was pretty fun.
Starting point is 01:03:53 Yeah, yeah, I had fun doing that. I thought I was just doing a bus tour and then it kind of turned into a hall. I'm like, Amazon. Yeah, and it was super relatable because all your stuff was from like, I got this pillow from Amazon, I got this pillow.
Starting point is 01:04:04 Was that for real? And it wasn't like Louis stuff? You were like, for fate. Oh, no. Yeah. All of that is what I said it was. Do you feel the pressure to have new wardrobe
Starting point is 01:04:17 at every big show? I guess a little bit It's kind of just whatever I'm in the mood for Do you have standards that you take with you That you can access Like use accessories differently Where it looks like a whole different outfit Yeah so my tour outfits are kind of like the same
Starting point is 01:04:35 There's four different looks throughout the show But it's like based off of one outfit And they're all different like for example I had silver for the first time in Nashville I was excited about performing in Nashville So we went with silver on stage As the color Yeah. Got it. You weren't like wearing a bunch of silver like chains.
Starting point is 01:04:52 No. Got it. No. Yeah. I love Am I Okay. Thanks. Yeah. And that song, because the chorus, Am I okay? I mean, just everything about that song and that chorus, it's not traditional. Writing that song. Like was it ever, I don't know, is this so different? Should we record it? Was that ever a thought? Definitely. And I think the emotion behind that song was just so real that it was really easy to write because it's literally, I mean, y'all know I have a bunch of sad songs. So I found myself where I was like, actually happy.
Starting point is 01:05:23 And I'm like, oh, my God, am I okay? Like, you need to put me in rice or something. So the emotions behind the song were easy, but that was written at a time before I was on tour with Kenny. And I knew I needed to have songs that sounded good in a stadium that could entertain people. So I think the thought behind, like, making it so different feeling was kind of like, okay, I need this for my live show too.
Starting point is 01:05:46 What song did you write where you thought maybe, this is too personal to put out? Or was there ever one? Oh yeah, there's tons. I would say the first one that comes to mind is Miss Universe. What part of it did you feel was too personal? All of it. Every line. Every line. I actually changed some lines a little bit. To not identify? Yeah. So, yeah. I feel like I wouldn't want to give people the credit of it being about them. Like I feel like my ego would go, I wrote this song about X, Y, and Z that did what, screwed me over or I'm hurt by or whatever.
Starting point is 01:06:22 But I don't want them to be able to brag about how a song is about them. Yeah, I have a couple Xs that like to do that. But I'm like, deny, deny, deny. Not about you. Like the Am I okay guy, he's long gone. And I'm like, that one's not about you. I don't know why you keep telling people that.
Starting point is 01:06:39 But he does tell people that because he knows, but you just say. Yeah. How do you know he's saying it? It gets back to you? It got back to me. Oh, I know, but I'm picturing like if he sang it. No, he was at a winery in California or something,
Starting point is 01:06:52 and the girl in charge was like, your ex is going around saying the whole albums about him. I was like, easy, just the title track. Yeah, my ego would definitely not want someone to be bragging about how I wrote songs about them. Yeah. What comes to you first when you write the lyrics or the melody? generally. Generally the lyrics. It's usually the hook, yeah. Do you keep a phone list of concepts and lyrics, or do you write anything with a pen?
Starting point is 01:07:25 Sometimes if I'm feeling crazy, but most of the time it's in my phone notes. My phone notes are crazy. It'll be like eggs, like a grocery list, and then it's like a hook of a song, and then some random thoughts. Sometimes your grocery list might end of a song. I don't want you to share the answer to this, but do you have anything now, like an idea you're sitting on that you're like this idea when I get time to actually like partially, it's going to be so good. Yes. How many of those do you think you have in your phone right now? I'm sure you have 100 ideas and 80 good ones. How many do you have that you're like, this is transcendent as far as like my songs and my ideas? Probably like three different ones.
Starting point is 01:08:04 Yeah. I have writers coming on the road this weekend that I'm excited about. When you do that, do you set up a rig in the bus? and do you write pre-show or will you come off stage sometimes and write afterward if you're still kind of wound up? I'll probably like wake up early and write. I'm a morning person. So yeah, maybe a little bit of both. I kind of like if I got out there, I would be like, you know, I don't feel like writing today. And then I got all these people out of here. Yeah, I mean, sometimes I don't put any pressure on it to actually write. I mean, I know that that's probably, songwriters, my songwriters are probably like, damn. But I kind of just, I don't force anything.
Starting point is 01:08:40 in the writer's room, because that's how songs turn out to be bad. And I'm also not one of those writers. It's like, we just need to finish it. I'm like, if it's bad, let's just stop. I don't want my name on that. Don't send that around to people. Did you ever have a song that you finished or you just stopped on and then you went back later and either repaired it or finished it
Starting point is 01:08:57 ended up being great? Yeah, I do that a lot with my songs. I'll rewrite bridges and stuff all the time. And there'll be like little things. Like for my next album too, there's a couple songs right now that aren't fully right, but I know, so they're going to need some work, but I don't just like toss them if I don't like it when it's done. Do you ever worry about stuff getting leaked that you don't want out there?
Starting point is 01:09:19 No. Because if they leak it, I'll just post about it and be like, yeah, that's my song. I would just go AI. AI, that's not even really me. I made a post recently about sad songs. I love sad songs, as I mentioned earlier. And I feel like there aren't as many great sad songs, at least that get to me. you write great sad songs
Starting point is 01:09:40 Kenny writes great sad songs what's the key to a good sad song if it makes you cry when you're making the work tape I think that's a good sign That's how you know Yeah Like if it's hard to get through
Starting point is 01:09:53 Have you ever cracked in a As you're tracking like singing Yeah 100% Dude I cried through This is so random I cried through the vocals of Am I okay Because me and that guy broke up When I was in the studio doing that
Starting point is 01:10:06 So you're doing a happy song Yeah and the whole thing was, is I was like, how am I going to sing this, like, happy song about a guy that sucks? You know what I mean? Because the song's not about a guy that sucks, but now you know the guy sucks. Right. Yeah, I wrote that song prematurely, which is what I learned. Don't write a song about someone you've known for a month.
Starting point is 01:10:24 Okay, you got to let it marinate, especially if it's a nice one. You're like, it's a month in, you're like, I'm so happy right now. I know, and he's like, wait till month three. Yeah. I'm going to show you what I really am. Yeah. I would talk about goals. but we've come a long way since the goal was just to get a bus. Oh, yeah. Oh my gosh. Crazy.
Starting point is 01:10:46 From driving around in a van and cars and you get a... That's a humongous deal, right? The first time you get a bus because you actually get to rest. 100%. And I don't know, even... It wasn't that long ago where it was me and my whole band on the same bus. So there's literally 12 of us. And we were just grateful for that
Starting point is 01:11:04 because it wasn't a Honda Civic and it wasn't a church fan with a U-Haul on the back. which that's kind of how it grows. And, you know, a lot of my friends, their first big goal was to get a bus. I think sometimes they even have to remind themselves, man, getting that bus was such a big deal. And now that they have it, because you can quickly move on to the next goal. Right. Without really appreciating.
Starting point is 01:11:25 You can complain that the TVs are shaking and it's waking you up in the middle of the night. Or that it won't connect. We can't get good. Right. Exactly. Well, Megan, it's awesome to see you again. You're killing it. You make the best music.
Starting point is 01:11:37 I don't even know what else to say. I'm super happy for you. I appreciate you. Yeah. And am I okay? I mean, it's going to do it. It's going to be another one. I love it.
Starting point is 01:11:46 We don't jinx things. The jinx does not happen with us. We don't. We've not jinx enough things that it's not a jinx. So yeah, this one's going to do it too. There she is. Our friend Megan Maroney, good job. Bobby Bone Show.
Starting point is 01:12:00 Boney of the day. This story comes us from Charlottesville, Virginia. A man likes to walk around his neighborhood, but there's a busy interstate. section by his house. He says, it needs a crosswalk. Goes to the city and says, you guys need to put a crosswalk in. Like, sir, no crosswalk is needed. So it goes down to the hardware store, gets some spray paint. Nice.
Starting point is 01:12:23 Puts his own crosswalk in. Okay. And he was arrested. Oh, it was an arrestable? I guess if they told you no. And then also, yeah, I guess you just can't put stop signs someone randomly or crosswalks or traffic lights. True. I think that kind of opens the door, the old Pandora's box to you create.
Starting point is 01:12:40 your own town, the own governing body. You're the mayor. Now you've revolted against America. Yeah, what does he get? Property damage. Oh. Up to a year in jail. A year?
Starting point is 01:12:50 No, up to never means that. Oh, okay. It's just like a little fine, maybe community service. Yeah, he's definitely making it. His community service by cleaning up to crosswalk that he painted. Yes. I wonder if it's for safety reasons why I did it. He says it's a busy intersection, needs something there.
Starting point is 01:13:04 Traffic goes too fast. I'm looking at it. Wow. They need a crosswalk there. Really? Yeah, what's his name again? I didn't say his name. Oh, Justice for whomever he is. He kind of looks like Larry David, doesn't he? Justice
Starting point is 01:13:18 for the guy that looks like Larry David's what I say. Well, Larry David and Jeff Goldblum have a baby. That would be who the guy looks like. Older guy. All right, there you go. I'm Lunchbox. That's your Bonehead Story the day. This is April from Norman, Oklahoma. I was listening to the podcast today, and you guys were talking about Amy was late at some point, and it wasn't when she got locked in her room.
Starting point is 01:13:39 A caller called in a few months ago that said something about it really drives her crazy when you guys start to say something but you don't finish it. This was kind of one of those moments where we all now want to know. So just saying, I hope we get to find out tomorrow. Love the show. Yeah, this wasn't meant to be one of those moments and mostly it was, did Amy know? We've given her time to think about it. But they want to know tomorrow, so you can tell us tomorrow.
Starting point is 01:14:05 Okay. I think I have an idea now. Okay. So tomorrow, leave it there. Lunchbox, no, no, no, don't say anything. Don't say anything. Don't say anything. I don't want.
Starting point is 01:14:16 No, do, do, scut, bop, bop, just wait until tomorrow. But it was never even supposed to be we don't finish it. It was a challenge to Amy because Amy didn't know. So how can we finish something Amy doesn't know? Exactly. Exactly. Which I had to think about it. And then once I thought about it, I'm like, well, no wonder it didn't make sense.
Starting point is 01:14:34 No, no, no, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da. D-D-D-D-D-D-D. Okay. So anyway. Okay. We'll give a tea tomorrow. Okay. Bye, everybody.
Starting point is 01:14:47 Get your Bobby Bones on. The Bobby Bones show theme song, written, produced, and sang by Reed Yarberry. You can find his Instagram at Reed Yardberry.
