Starting point is 00:00:01 And now, the bonfire with Big J. O'Kerson and Robert Kelly. Black Bobby, White Jay. Hey, Paco, thanks for dressing up forever last day, you dickhead. That is dressed up for him. You're like a goddamn you came here fucking... Come on, man. Would you sleep outside last night? It's Everlast day.
Starting point is 00:00:22 Sorry. This guy don't give a fuck. I think we're going to pay him more. I think the kid's holding on by a thread. Oh, you think these are, like, donated clothes? Yeah, I think we... Is it donated? It's from gas, yeah, the leftover.
Starting point is 00:00:35 All right, dude, we're going to take you shop and me and Jay, but you have to wear what we buy. Yes. That's your new look. Sure. It's going to be a cool look. Yeah. I mean, my part isn't, but his part is.
Starting point is 00:00:47 I know what it's going to be. I'm going to have you go, like, super Asiany, like wearing those, like, silky with, like, the two. Oh, like the Bruce Lee jacket. The Bruce Lee jacket. Bruce Lee jacket. We'll get you those little slippers, too, that were popular in the 80s.
Starting point is 00:00:59 Yeah, with those Paddington Bear jacket, you know, enclosures. We're going to get one of those Rice Field hats, too. Yes. Yeah. Both of you were doing this?
Starting point is 00:01:08 I thought we had separate looks. Maybe a pair of buck teeth. Oh, no, we're judging you up together. We're going to judge you up together, but you are going to wear some type of old man golf pants, like a stretchy golf pants. Oh, I might have you in, yeah. Oh, maybe they'll have them dressed.
Starting point is 00:01:22 Maybe we'll dress them like a 1920s director. You know what I mean? Where it's like knee pants with like high socks? Get them like a, what are those things called? Like a neckerchief. What's that little one glass call? Monicle? Yeah, we've got him a monicle.
Starting point is 00:01:33 He was a great with a monicle. Safari hat, perhaps. He'd be a smaller one, though. Yeah, a bullhorn. He always has to have a bullhorn on him. You always have a bullhorn. It's some sort of like a horse whipping thing. Just a cone.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Yeah, yeah, a cone with the handle on it. Yeah. Did directors have a Lou hat back in the day? No. No, no, no. The old cabbies and people who trained boxers. Paper boys had those. It's a Kango.
Starting point is 00:01:54 It's big in the black community. And paper boys. It was big in the black community. It's not anymore. It was. It was. It still is. No, it's not.
Starting point is 00:02:00 You can rock a kango hats. It's timeless. Cango hat's timeless. Dude, I haven't seen a black guy wear a Cango hat unless he's got a gray beard. What? Yeah, dude. Black guys don't rock Cangoes anymore.
Starting point is 00:02:11 I have a gray beard. Yeah. You're fine, dude. You're fine, dude. You're good. You look fantastic. You look fantastic. You look like over there.
Starting point is 00:02:18 It's fantastic. What if we start dressing Paco in like some type of dress? Oh, what? Oh, trans them up? Yeah. That'd be good for the show. We have a black guy. We could definitely use a trans.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Mm-hmm. Trans Asian. You could too. Yeah. Trans Asian. is so much more important than Asian. None of them are as important as black. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:34 We got a middle-aged bisexual guy that's in the closet still. I didn't have a shirt that says any of those things rule. Black people rule. But your stuff's fine if we put it together. Trans-Asians are fine? Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're fine. Second only to black. For studio needs, second-only to black.
Starting point is 00:02:53 They don't rule, but they're cool. They do not rule. They're cool. They're cool. It also is something I'm talking about like a train line or something. Trans-Asian train line. A murder mystery would happen. Full disclosure, we came in the studio
Starting point is 00:03:07 and threw the little glass here, Everlast. It was already warming up. Man, that was hard to ignore. Yeah. You're like, just start the show. Like, yeah, I'll just start the show while Everlast is right there. Yeah, well, there's actual talent in the other room.
Starting point is 00:03:22 There's real talent in the room. Shit hits coming here. I'm humiliated to come in here and talk about the things I'm going to talk about. Somebody actually worked hard at something for years. Yeah, yeah. picked up a gift. Yeah. Learned a skill.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Yeah, me and you learned how to just talk to people with confidence. That's it. False confidence. It could be broken so easily if you just fight back a little. All you have to do is say, your shirt's not ironed and I fall apart on stage. Yeah. If you pointed out that my belly was hanging out at the bottom of my shirt, it doesn't matter what you've done. I'm going, no!
Starting point is 00:03:52 I had that one night on stage. The stage was too high, and it was when I was real fat. And I had a shirt that you couldn't see my belly. if you're looking straight on, but if you were underneath, it had the underneath, and two girls kind of hot, not crazy, but I saw one point at my stomach, and the other one go, what? And she went, his stomach. And they both giggle.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Oh, my, Christ, that hurts so much, too. That's like hearing your parents tell you they don't love you. Talk about not loving you behind your back. Yeah, I felt that too. I felt that. I've had that. No. I did.
Starting point is 00:04:22 You overheard a conversation that they don't love you? No, but I remember one time I ran away when I was real young, and I didn't want to run away, but I ran away, and I was at a bus stop crying. Why didn't you want to? Because I just wanted her to love me and stop me, but she didn't. Your mom?
Starting point is 00:04:36 Yeah, I just left. And then this girl walked me, was at the bus stop, I was crying, and she was like, what's wrong, little boy? And she wound up taking me back to my house, and my mom was there, and she was worried, and we hugged, and I was crying, and then I went,
Starting point is 00:04:51 oh, mom, I love you. And she's like, I love you, too, Bobby. And it was like, this moment I just wanted my whole life. And then I was, I was under the table in the other room so happy that I got the love for my mom. And I heard her on the phone with her friend Donna. And she goes, and then he said, oh, mom, I love you. I was, uh, and I, oh, that's great.
Starting point is 00:05:13 Yeah, yeah. That's so great. Yeah, I still feel that right now. I don't know if I can do this everlast stuff. Is fucking Paco in there smelling ever last seat? He's fixing. He's making sure the microphones work. He's doing what Asians do.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Okay. I thought he was in their smell on Everlast seat. I don't like that. He's our guest. He just adjusted a chord that didn't need to adjust. Look at what he's doing. He's just touching chords. We know you can hear us.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Look at, he's just doing stupid stuff. I'm worthy. If you could hear us, stand up on that chair and spread your asshole. That's what I love Paco. He does it. He does it. Come on. I hope he falls.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Jacob, you better look. Oh, if he, oh my God. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. If he did it and fell, snapped his neck, and died in that position. with his asshole hangout? That's how we bury him.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Open casket. We just leave him there for the rest of the show. Face down open casket. So everyone can see your fucking asshole hang out. Yeah, we put flowers in it. You know that. We'd have to get oranges too. I think they like oranges at their funerals.
Starting point is 00:06:13 Wow. Yeah, we have to put oranges by his fucking asshole. What's up, Jacob? You mentioned the belly hanging out. And I remember watching, it was on Disney channel, Elton John's last concert. So this is his final concert. They filmed it.
Starting point is 00:06:27 It's epic. He's a rock legend. And there's one of his songs, his shirt comes untone, and you just see the bottom of his belly. Oh, no. And they couldn't fix it because they filmed it live. Oh. And it's the only thing I remember about the concert.
Starting point is 00:06:43 I know the music was great. When was it? What's it from? A few years ago, it's on, I think it's on the Disney Channel. Disney Plus? Disney Plus. Oh, nice. I got to try to watch that maybe.
Starting point is 00:06:55 I saw him on that last tour. And it stung. It was so bad I saw him with Billy Jolie He was great I believe it I wanted him to be great When I saw him on that tour
Starting point is 00:07:06 The Goodbye Yellow Rick Road tour It was So bad Why? He couldn't sing Why? I don't know His big fat weird hands
Starting point is 00:07:16 And his stupid fucking voice He seemed like he wasn't having fun It seemed like he was just getting Through a concert Well once the belly came out It just looked like Oh this is a This is an 80 year old guy
Starting point is 00:07:26 Who has too much A fat old queen That's all I thought. That would be in my contract. It'd be a belly shirt fixer guy, stage right or left. And as soon as my belly came out, they'd have to run out and, like a roadie, rip my shirt back down. You're in the middle of playing the piano. There's a guy that just dressed in all black that comes out and pulls my shirt down if my stomach ever came out.
Starting point is 00:07:49 That would be in my contract. I never forgot. It's still in my head, his belly. Type in Elton John's shirt comes up. Because it has hair. I remember. I think there was a hair on his belly. Oh, he's a bear bear.
Starting point is 00:07:58 He's a bear bear. I'm still standing. It's funny to have hair in your stomach, but you're wearing a wig. That must suck. Yeah. Bear bear. Bear bear. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:08:09 I can't imagine somebody's just going to isolate the belly shut. Why, I would. Oh, my God, he's so fat. Justine, come on. He's an old guy. He's an old queen. Leave him alone. He's an old fucking queen.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Get off his back. But yeah, I mean, it's the big produced final concert that they aired. Unless they re-edited it, you know, I mean, I was horrified. I mean, I don't know why you... I don't know why you... Was it live when you saw it? I want to... I think it was live, like they aired it.
Starting point is 00:08:44 They did it. They must have re-edited it. It must be gone. Because there was a countdown and everything. I remember that, so maybe... I couldn't say, but my God. Horrific. If you see it, you won't forget it.
Starting point is 00:08:57 I still don't like it. I don't want my shirt being out at all. Now, are you guys worried that Everlasts are going to come in here and realize how not cool white guys we all are? What are you talking about, dude? Look at you. Look at you. Look at both of us. We look cool. All we have to do is not talk a lot. I know, we have to talk. But we just got to, when we say it, you got to say it cool, dude. Like, ask him a question. Pretend I'm him. I'm Everlast. What's up, man? How are you doing, Jay? Hey, Everlast. Oh, you remember the House of Pain?
Starting point is 00:09:26 Oh, God. Man, come on. That was crazy. It's a long time ago, bro. You rap, good. Oh, shit, man. Jay. Yeah. No.
Starting point is 00:09:35 This isn't good? No, it's not good. Let me try again. Everlast. Yep. What's up, brother? Is that because it takes you forever to come? Okay, that wasn't good either.
Starting point is 00:09:48 No, that was not good. No, that was not good. Hi, Everlast. Hi, buddy. How are you? Good to see you again, Jay. Were you rap with me? No, Jay.
Starting point is 00:09:56 I won't do that. You sure? All right, let's go. What you got, Jay? Pack it up, pack it in. Let me begin. I came to win. Battle me, that's a sin.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Pack it in. I won't. Back up. Punk, you better backup. Try and play the row and you're the whole crew are lapped up. Hey.
Starting point is 00:10:21 Man. I like it, Kuzik. I like good. By the way, way to make a meal out of it, a second life, too. Fuck yeah. He wrote it Did you see what Cody was wearing?
Starting point is 00:10:31 He was wearing like a vintage Guns and Roses jacket Like Army jacket Who? Ever fucking last Oh his coat Yeah I thought you see what Cody was wearing
Starting point is 00:10:41 I swear to God I thought you said COD Y I thought you called him I thought you said what Cody was wearing He's wearing an army jacket With Guns and Roses on the back of it Yeah He dresses the way I'd love to dress
Starting point is 00:10:51 I think I'm going to steal his style I'd have He's pulling off a hat He's wearing a cool hat, which is almost impossible. Multiple chains. I think some rings jewelry even. Hat? He's got the hat.
Starting point is 00:11:07 The hat's cool. The shades. Shades. The whole thing. Yeah. It's just going to be way cooler than we are in that room. Yeah. Fuck.
Starting point is 00:11:15 I'm wearing a Dr. Pepper Japan shirt. Oh, my Christ. I picked the wrong shirt. It's the dorkiest thing ever. I know. I like foreign soda flavors. I should have called you. God damn it.
Starting point is 00:11:26 I wore Zeppelin. I was like, well, it's classic, it's good. I didn't know fucking El Salvador over here was going to be dressed from a helicopter dropped fucking free clothes. He really does look like shit. You really do, dude. I don't know why he would fucking come in here
Starting point is 00:11:46 the day we have somebody famous. Everlast day, dude. I rushed. There's a fucking store down the street. I love New York shirt. Do something. Something, dude. Something other than, I don't want to see you a
Starting point is 00:11:57 weird fucking soft shoulders. Damn, dude, your hairless body's gonna freak him the fuck out. Yeah. And he's got to perform. God damn it. It's gonna make him nervous as shit. It's so soft and beautiful from the neck down and from the head up. You look like you fish for a living.
Starting point is 00:12:14 I would love to rub your body. I want to rub your body with my hands. Your smooth body. Yeah. And I want to get advice from your face. Oh, great. Now DJ Who kid. Now we're fucking not cool, the coolest black and the coolest white.
Starting point is 00:12:26 We gotta, we gotta, we're cool, dude, listen to me. I did a meditation today. Look at me. Should I warn my new bling? I should have worn my bling. No, it's too late. It's all mental, dude. You gotta, you gotta, listen to me.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Repeat after me. Okay. I'm cool. I'm cool. No, I'm cool. Nah, not that cool. Okay. Today cool.
Starting point is 00:12:49 I'm cool. There you go. I'm Jay Ocerson. I'm fucking Jay Ocerson. You're everlast. I'm the man. What's being ever. Everlast like?
Starting point is 00:12:57 No, Jay. You fucking failing. Dude, please make that your first question. Everlast. You're good. What's that like? We had Everlasts on years ago. Yeah?
Starting point is 00:13:11 For a little bit with a Burke Kreischer was here. He kind of dominated it. Oh, you think? That's weird. He did strangely dominate it. Do you think so? Do you take a shirt off? He did take a shirt off.
Starting point is 00:13:22 And then threatened to get completely naked, which Everlast. didn't want. Nobody wants, actually. I would have accepted it. You would accept it, Bert, completely naked? Sure.
Starting point is 00:13:32 I don't want to see it. Anybody, really, it's funny. You want to see me naked? Yeah. No. Oh, no. I didn't think you would, but I'm saying, like.
Starting point is 00:13:39 I'll do it for you someday at your house. Look at Liam walking around, just not getting his tickets to shows. Oh, dude. Come on. He hooks us up. Look at Liam, just walking around, getting us nowhere closer,
Starting point is 00:13:53 no interviews, no nothing with any concert we go. Get us today? Your girlfriend. He got your young blood. Yeah, that's not my girlfriend. Kelly Carson's my girlfriend. Huh?
Starting point is 00:14:02 He got us Everlast. This is part of his job to get things for this show. I'm talking about extras. What's an extra? 18 concert tickets for me and all my friends to go see Maryland. VIP? VIP with some backstate. Or if I buy the tickets, why don't we get some passes?
Starting point is 00:14:20 Or maybe something. Anything at all. Permission to record there. Anything. Well. I don't want to mess with the manifesto because I still want Kelly Clarkson. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:32 I feel like, what if you guys... You might be able to get her on the show, but I'll tell you he's not going to get you. Tickets. What if you become really close with Kelly and not me? What if you guys just hit it off? It'd be great, wouldn't it? Oh, that would fucking crush me.
Starting point is 00:14:44 It would kill you more would be if she walked in here and was like, oh my God, I can't believe I'm eating Big J. O'Cerson. Yeah, that would fucking... That would bury me. And then she would be like, um, was this your weather guy? You're a dick
Starting point is 00:15:00 I want her prepped I want her prepped before she comes in I want photos of both of us With our resumes Oh yeah you haven't met Storm Powers My weather guy Weather on the nines Storm powers
Starting point is 00:15:16 Hey Storm, why don't you take us to commercial break With a little weather What's going on out there in New York City right now Well we have a rain system coming in from the west And if you're driving on the sawmill, you want to watch out because it might be flooded on the way home. Back to you, Jay. Back you, Storm. We'll be right back with your favorite classic hits of the 70s, 80s, and today.
Starting point is 00:15:37 We're going to wrap it up. We're going in. It's the bonfire. We can start now. Yeah. I don't hear myself in my... I know they're up. But now I'm getting double something.
Starting point is 00:15:52 My headphones weren't on at first. I can't hear me in my headphones. I can hear me outside of my headphones. We're back. It's the bonfire. We're having some technical difficulties. Jay almost got taken out by a pair of headphones. Yeah, dude, somebody should burn this one down and start fucking fresh with anyone who gives a shit about tech.
Starting point is 00:16:11 And then... I've been to the podcast studios and people's houses that have better equipment than we have. We're back. We did send that useless satellite into the air, though, now that everything's a podcast. Let's get space involved. Jay, Jay's on fire right now, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:32 You almost got wiped out. You got a little tangled up in the headphones. Yeah. Oh, there we go. Now we can hear. Oh, geez, that sounds fantastic now, though. Whatever button you pushed. Well, the headphones weren't on.
Starting point is 00:16:42 You don't do mine. I was my set, mine set. I fixed mine already. Jay, dude. Jacob, you're late to the game producing right now, buddy. This is all the shit have been handled. Jay, you had a mood swing, dude. You went from, we were having a really fun time.
Starting point is 00:16:53 I got somebody off crew tuned. the guitars. Poor Everland is going to come in here and start playing. It's going to sound like a banjo. You're having a mood swing, dude. You went from Jovial J to almost dying to, you're kind of snapping about everything. I really think this place stinks.
Starting point is 00:17:08 All right, dude, listen. We have an amazing guest in. We're going to be live. We've got to switch it up a little bit. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the guest is going to be fantastic. I'm very excited for this. Last time we were in here with Stephen Wilson Jr.
Starting point is 00:17:23 I'm humiliated what he has to walk through to get here. Oh, come on, dude. It's all right. We're good. We got a piano over there. We got a keyboard. Yeah, yeah. We're in studio deuce with some bongos.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Yeah. We got a drum kit. Andy Cohen's tripping over a bunch of fucking wires. Do you think the camera's in his studio work? Go on. Yep. Yeah. I do.
Starting point is 00:17:43 Well, I think he actually is on the other side of the building that we can't get into. No one fucks with him here, dude. He rules the school. That's right, because he's DJ Who kid. I bet there's no fucking stupid fucking headphones and shit. and shitty microphone wires everywhere before he walks. I think we have to get bling with our names on it. Maybe we do have to get bling.
Starting point is 00:18:00 We get some big, thick chains with our names on it. Yeah, we need to learn how to DJ. We get Big J and then marshmallows. Mine will be more expensive because marshmallows is way more diamonds. We have to learn how to DJ. Voices out of my headphones again. Now it's back. Come on, dude.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Can we just play music till Everlast comes? Nah, dude, we're good. I don't want to talk anymore. Why? You fucking just. You got a little, you got hurt. When you get hurt, you get a little, you get scared. You got scared.
Starting point is 00:18:29 I didn't get scared at all. I want to break things. You are seeing stupid faces in the hallway of the idiots of your work you're going. Stop. You almost, you tripped up on your headphones and hurt yourself and you got mad. You get mad when you get, I get hurt. Right. And then a lot of things kind of tumbled out of control after that.
Starting point is 00:18:50 You just noticed everything. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. You're right. Yes, it's one thing happens. Then you're like, oh, yeah, and also, this place blows cock. You actually came out of the Matrix and you were in a tub of goo with wires in the back of your head. Yeah, a series is a tub of goo with wires in your head. You're in a Nebuchadnezzar now instead of eating steak and a nice restaurant. The fact that Paco is here is proof positive.
Starting point is 00:19:15 No one has any idea what's going on. Paco's just... Do I tell you remember when we were in the meeting, Bobby? That was the funniest. When we were in the meeting and the advertising people were like, they go, oh, and this would probably be really good for like your video content and everything. And then Jim had to go,
Starting point is 00:19:28 we don't really, we don't really do their videos. I know. No, we have videos. We just can't use the cameras. The video stuff's not really a part of the show. It's so funny that those cameras were
Starting point is 00:19:46 state of the art and now they haven't been used in so long technologies pass them. They're not state of the art cameras anymore. I've never had a job that I've been paid for. I was like a paid employee where part of the job was to also come out of pocket for several things. It goes, is that a work expense? No, no, no, no. Hey, is video for the show work expense? Oh, come on, no way. I know. I wish we would afford a guy that could dress proper. No, I know. We are going to get embarrassed in front of Everlast because of this guy. Look at his white socks and black shoes. Oh, my Christ. We had to hire
Starting point is 00:20:20 immigrant talent. Yeah. I said he's like a dock fisherman. Yeah, dude. He's just... He's like young Miyagi. Are you auditioning for young Miyagi today? Are you playing down at West Forth after this?
Starting point is 00:20:31 You make an extra money on the side? Being the Asian guy that can shoot hoops. Oh, Rice boy can't jump. Yeah, dude. You fucking... Didn't you know that you would... You're going to meet famous people today? He is kind of dressed like Everlast and jump around, though.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Yeah, in the 90s. In the 90s. Yeah. Now Everlast looks like a rock star. I've seen him come in. I want to start dressing like him. Don't tell him that. Why? And he won't take it as a compliment.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Why not? He's going to think you're coming on to him, dude. This guy's got urban roots. Buddy, he's got country now. He's got feelings. He's not, he's... You're going to stop calling him country. Buddy, I'm telling you right now.
Starting point is 00:21:09 I promise you he doesn't call a country. It's country-ish. It's not singer-songwriter. Country-ish. Blues. Dude, his album, was in Nashville. He went to Nashville to do this.
Starting point is 00:21:24 He was inspired. Fine. Dude, call it country. I'm not going to call. I'll say a country. I have the whole house of pain on your ass. That's done.
Starting point is 00:21:32 What? Dude, he's done. It's not done, but that was, he's into this now. He's doing, still does rap.
Starting point is 00:21:39 He's got, his songs are, I told you before. I think country is, the older you get, it actually hits you better because it has feeling and it has meaning
Starting point is 00:21:49 in the words. Yeah. Other than... You think that's what country is? Country's usually like, got a big old thing and I fucking with my dog and I'm gonna party all night long.
Starting point is 00:22:02 That's meaning right there. That's not meaning at all. It's a whole night of experience. Absolute horseshit, but it is good music for a girl to fucking be wearing shorts so short you can see her shave bumps. I do like the country
Starting point is 00:22:15 got a little slutty. God, no, it's always been slutty. It's like slutty young now, too. It wasn't always that slutty young, I don't feel like. It was an older person's game. Yeah. And now the young girls are in. Yeah, that Josh, Zach Topps concert, there was a lot of hot Daisy Dukes.
Starting point is 00:22:32 Toppy bottoms? Toppy bottoms was fucking, has a young, hot crowd, man. A lot of side tit. I saw a lot of side tit. Old Toppy bottoms strikes again. I like a nice natural side tit. A sick jiggler, if you will? Well, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:48 And dude, sick jiggler is taking over the, country, by the way. How many people are saying sick jiggler on the internet now? I think it's out there. You started a thing. Yeah, I'll never get the credit. You will get the credit. I have to kill myself. And then people will talk about the originator the sick jiggler. The documentary, a three-part series on Netflix that we all watch. Oh, I started watching a four-part documentary yesterday that we will get into on the show. I'm sure at some point, but you should watch it. It's on HBO Max's ID channel show. And it's a... four-part thing about OJ.
Starting point is 00:23:22 It's called OJ. The crew. Exploiting the devil. Was it the crew? Exploiting the evil. It's about the reality prank show he was going to do. Right. And how like,
Starting point is 00:23:33 and they've never put it out, but they have all the footage. And it's crazy. Because they were friends. They became friends. And as they became more friends, he became more OJ. Well, and they started,
Starting point is 00:23:44 they started being nervous of him too. But they were like, this guy's a scary guy when you see him start to get like angry. and you always will think like, this guy that almost cut a woman's head off once. Yeah, like they started out and he was the nicest guy ever, but as they got to know each... No, I watched a little bit of it.
Starting point is 00:24:00 And as they got to know him, he started drinking with him and party, and then he started... Hitting on chicks, weird. Yeah, grabbing him by the neck. He comes at chicks a little weird. Yeah. But he was willing to make any joke possible.
Starting point is 00:24:14 And I just know the opening scene, it hasn't gotten to it, it's probably going to be like the big, crux of it. But one of the sketches he was doing was trying to sell a Bronco, a white Ford Bronco to a lady and explaining their, like, oh, this thing's got me out of a lot of trouble.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Got good escapability. He's got good dis? It's like, holy shit. That's kind of funny. If he was the new Bronco spokesperson? What's funny was, and I'm pretty sure I got the girl right, I've met before, one of the girls that got pranked on there, and it was Melissa Santos.
Starting point is 00:24:45 She was like a young dancer, and like she was one of the people that came in like a background dancer for a video he was going to do and then you get surprised at it's OJ and she didn't like it at all and she's pretty like open about it right in there she's not really liking what's happening and she's married I believe to a acquaintance buddy of mine Brian Cage is a wrestler and I met them when they came to my show in Vegas I wish I would have known that she got juiced she got juiced I wish I wouldn't she got juiced like that was the show you got juiced which should be what's called cutting off your wife's head I would love to
Starting point is 00:25:17 You just got juiced. That would have been great show to walk, though. You know, the more they tell you that story of the guy, she left her glasses at the place, and he was just a worker there who was like, it's a high-end restaurant, so they were like, yes, they will have a guy come bringing your glasses back. Or was she fucking them?
Starting point is 00:25:40 I don't know. I used to have it. When I delivered subs, I had a lady order a ham and cheese sub all the time, and I used to, she would just order for me to come in and fuck her. So you think she leaves her glasses at the place so he can come fuck her? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Yeah. So she deserved it. Okay. Well, your stance is noted. Well, I would say, not that she deserved it. You've always thought that she deserved it. This is what you do all the time. That's crazy, dude.
Starting point is 00:26:01 It's so funny how much you'll roll the play ball with Sirius XM. But, man, when it comes to fucking OJ, you will not take a shot at this guy. I'm just saying. You will blame her every time. Saying, you asked me a question, I answered your question, and then you took it down a road that's, I didn't go down. I never said she deserved it. Nobody deserves that. Damn.
Starting point is 00:26:18 I mean, I understand it. I know. And you're so happy Lindsay Clancy didn't get. Your takes are strange. Shut up, Lindsay Clancy. I like assigning you all of your takes. Dude, also the fact you think Lindsay Clancy should walk free. I do not.
Starting point is 00:26:31 And you believe with the right, if we are willing to pay the government and taxes, enough in taxes that we could probably get her to walk again? That's ridiculous. You know my stance on that. What? My stance on... You should just be flat out legal to kill your kids. No, I think she should go to jail for killing her kids, and that's it.
Starting point is 00:26:46 And all the women better support her are fucking mentally ill. Well, you think she should... Should be killed? No, she should go to jail for the rest of her life. On a wheelchair? Boring. And that's not boring. She'll run the block.
Starting point is 00:26:59 Everybody on a wheelchair in prison winds up being the shock caller. No, they're the poets or whatever. No, you can't hurt them. Oh, we have our guest walking in. Hey. We are already on air, so yeah. Oh, it's a puppy. I thought he almost tripped on wires, too.
Starting point is 00:27:16 Everlast in the building. What's up, man? How are you? What's the dog's name? Kaiser Sozé. Oh my gosh. It's good to see. It's been a long time. Thank you for being back on the show.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Very exciting. You have a new album out, Embers to Ashes. I've listened to the whole thing. I love it. I think it's great. How long did it take you to get this together? A couple of... I went up to Nashville.
Starting point is 00:27:48 I don't know. Two or three months altogether. You stayed there for three months and did it? I mean, I went back and forth to L.A. I mean, I split time. But, yeah, we went. We did, like, a writing session for a few weeks, and then we went back and did some tracking,
Starting point is 00:28:01 and then one more time to finish everything up. Why did you go to Nashville? Why was it? Because I didn't want to produce my own record. I had done it a lot. And I honestly just was lazy. I didn't want to do all the work. And a friend of mine is Yellow Wolf,
Starting point is 00:28:22 and we had discussed it. once in the past and another friend of mine kind of brought re-brought it up and i said let me give him a call and that's just where he's based and it was good to get out of you know my own home studio it's like you get this i i'm i call it personally dr dr dr drs syndrome when you have your own studio and all the time in the world to do whatever you want you know it's kind of like you take your time with it yeah you know you take yourself to another town put yourself in a studio where you're paying by the hour or lockout whatever it is you're you're on a clock you're like kind of putting yourself to a to a to a standard you don't want to wind up like prints with 10,000 songs that will never be
Starting point is 00:29:02 heard it that would never have with me because i've erased every song i've gotten halfway through and thought it wasn't even yeah oh you just deleted it's not gonna be you didn't even keep it for a piece i made it very very very clear like there's never going to be like some hidden if there is it's a i and it's a lie the b sides There are no B size You don't want that song If I didn't let you hear it It was erased long before
Starting point is 00:29:27 And it shouldn't have been heard After you die They were released peanut butter and jelly You're like what Yellow Wolf is an interesting And also sort of obvious choice I feel like too though in a way Because you guys are both
Starting point is 00:29:38 Like multi-genre artists Oh me he gives me a lot of credit For that in a lot of ways And that's kind of like how we connected Like you know I saw you know my Whatever journey and realized, you know,
Starting point is 00:29:51 and which is another reason I went to Nashville is he was like, I got a lot of cats out here just like me that look at what you did in the same way. And that's kind of why it feels so cohesive and right, you know, because everybody knew the, as they say, knew the assignment, you know? Did you see a point where, like an age that you hit where your mind stopped thinking somewhat more in like hip hop into something like a singer-songwriter?
Starting point is 00:30:17 Um, no, because it all kind of feels the same to me. It rap is a little different. For me, these days, rap is a sport to me. Like, I got to, if I'm going to make a rap song or a record, it's got to be with some guys I respect and that challenge, like my skill level. Like, I got to feel like I'm in, I'm the least. It's like war porn, war porn industries. That's the perfect example, you know, put me in the room,
Starting point is 00:30:44 one of my best friends, Devine Stiler, one of the best producers I know and one of the craziest Spanish rappers I've ever heard. Let's see what happens. That's the kind of thing I like with that. And this album is the first album I ever made. It doesn't have even one straight rap song on it.
Starting point is 00:31:01 I noticed that. That just happened. You know, again, I read a thing recently, an article, an interviewer son, with Andre 3000, you know, he's getting bombarded with that question all the time. Why don't know why should rap? And his answer was beautiful,
Starting point is 00:31:15 and it's exactly what mine is. I didn't have it in me. When I got it in me, I'll do it. Yeah. Right now, I ain't got it in me. That's not what I want to do right now. Who are these guys you with in here tonight? This is my buddy Darius Holbert.
Starting point is 00:31:26 What's up, Darius? And this is a guy I met on the street yesterday. Yesterday. He was busking, playing guitar on the corner. But nobody was giving him any money, so I'd ask me for when to come play. This is Adam. Oh, we did that with this video guy. We found him vlogging on the street.
Starting point is 00:31:40 You could do it in New York. He was our... Go down on that subway. You'll find it. He was our Rickshaw driver. And then we were like, hey. You know how to work a camera? You have two cameras on you right now.
Starting point is 00:31:50 So I was, Jay was telling me not to say it, but I feel like the new album and the songs are, have some country in them, some little, some little, country soul. I argue the blues. I think it's all the same. I mean, country is just, you know, blues with twang, man. But, yeah, the problem is if they were both right,
Starting point is 00:32:11 then there's no winner. That's going to be a problem for us. We're not going to have a show tomorrow. Yeah, I don't know the answer to that question. I remember when Whitey Ford came out and everybody had such a hard time processing what I was doing, even though, like, you know, White Clef was doing something very similar just with different forms of music, you know, with Island and R&B and stuff. That's what the carnival was.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Whitey-Four was just kind of like a white kid's version of that. We just happened to be on the same wavelength in the same area of time, you know? Yeah. Did your medical stuff happen before Whitey Ford? No, I mean, it happened to what became the last day of recording. Yeah, yeah. So that was the day we were like, oh, the album's done. I thought I was going to die, and I just told him, mix it.
Starting point is 00:32:55 I said, go mix that record, because if I die from this, I'm in the 28 club, and this is going to be huge. What happened? What happened? What happened? I was born with a heart defect. I had what's called a bicuspid aortic valve where your valve is kind of like when it's closed, looks like a Mercedes symbol, the seams. two of mine were fused together at birth which wasn't a problem
Starting point is 00:33:18 but as I got older and you know I smoked a lot of weed and all kinds of crazy so like that wasn't great but like those two fuse seams tore so my valve couldn't close anymore and that was the outgoing valve so basically all the blood getting pumped out of my heart was falling right back in and when I finally got to the hospital I did have a heart attack but it was basically from just my heart being under pure exhaustion you know what I mean it's like imagine lifting a weight like curling it. Doesn't matter if it's five pounds
Starting point is 00:33:47 by the time you get to 9602 your arm's going to say, F you know, I ain't curling no more. Right. That's kind of what happened. And they fixed it. Once they realized what was going on, there was a whole like from what I remember, or was told because I don't remember a lot, there was a
Starting point is 00:34:03 whole lot of finding out that I was a musician and trying to find out how much cocaine or heroin I had done that night. And all my friends were like, he doesn't do drugs. He smokes cigarettes and he just pokes weed. That's it. And they were like, trying to swear out. If we give him the wrong thing, we're going to kill him.
Starting point is 00:34:18 But one of the things to save my life was my regular general practitioner, was a heart specialist. And he was on the board at Cedars, which happened to be the hospital where I live by. So his records were available. And once they saw my birth defect, they realized something bigger was going on, and they rushed me right into surgery and, you know, save my life.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Is it fixed forever, or do you get to maintain it? They told me it'll last until I die. Is it still shaped like a Mercedes? which is a symbol, which is kind of cool? No, now it's like, all right, if you took, like, it's, it's a, I mean, you've got headphones, yeah. God, you can say whatever you want. This is serious.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Oh. Oh, we can hear it. That's my heart. It sounds like some. It sounds like it took a watch. Yeah. That's exactly what it sounds like. And what it is is when it tore, they had, they, I don't know if they cut it out, but they
Starting point is 00:35:10 basically sew a circle into the valve. and then there's a cap on it with a spring. And so when the heart pushes blood out, it opens the cap. The blood goes out as soon as it passes, it closes. So there's nothing mechanically like being electrically worked. It's working under the own power of your heart. But that's just the spring closing. The noise we heard was just the spring opening.
Starting point is 00:35:36 It's just the plate, like hitting the rim. You should put that in a song. It's in every song. I was going to say, yeah, I assume like, yeah. I mean, second chance. Oh, you have no idea how many engineers I've, like, just, like, pissed me off. And I'll be like, hey, what's that weird noise? And I'll be like, do you hear it?
Starting point is 00:35:53 It's like a ticking or something. And I'll send them on a 20-minute mission. Just to mess with him. I was telling Bobby on the way up in you, I was listening to the album the last couple days. And the song, Stones is killing me. It's like, it's so sad. If you have any, it's, I mean, in my, I'm reading it right, it's a song about, like, self-hatred a lot. like kind of being angry at yourself and thinking yourself isn't shit.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Yeah. It's striking me. I don't know if it's hatred as much as just being like, okay, yeah, that's me. I did that. I can, you know, I'm going to learn how to live with it. You know, but yeah, I hate me too right now kind of thing. But I don't think it's anything anybody has, everybody hasn't experienced in one way or another. For me, it's just like, you know, like we didn't.
Starting point is 00:36:44 I didn't get my divorce didn't happen because of infidelity or anything it's just one of them things that kind of just yeah two people looked at each other one day and were like this saying it and how long are you married for oh well I mean I was married for about 11 years but I was we were together almost 25 and you wrote a song about that too oh I've probably written it I mean I'm sure but on this album there's a song I don't write a lot of happy songs but you know no but it is funny like the the approach different like you you have, you write like, like, your rap lyrics, not that they're bubbly lyrics by any sense, but I mean, like, it's more of an upbeat, like, energy in that.
Starting point is 00:37:23 So it's like, I feel like the emotional part of your writing probably goes all into the acoustic stuff. Yeah, I mean, it's, it's, for me, my emcee stuff in the past, is, is more braggadocious, fun, just kind of, I'm looking for, like, I know I have fans that want me to make another rap record. I'm not opposed to it, but what I'm trying to do is find out how to make that record in the most adult way possible. Sure. To communicate.
Starting point is 00:37:54 I'm not trying to rap to a 20-year-old kid. I want somebody who's living my life or something close to it, be able to listen to, you know. And it's happening right now. Buster Rines has one of the best rap records out right now. I can hear it. It's great. Who else?
Starting point is 00:38:08 There's a bunch of people, older cats that are, like, putting out these amazing hip-hop records. And it's made me go like, all right, it could be done. I just got to find my way to do it. And then Ghostface just put another album out? One of my favorites. But it must be great to be able to, I mean, you're with the same age, to
Starting point is 00:38:23 be able to sit. To sit and perform. At a concert. You know what I mean? Just to be like, hey, what's up? And just sit. Not have to jump around. You know what I mean? Yeah, I mean, that's the funny part. Jump around is always a funny one. I got shit the other day. I went and
Starting point is 00:38:41 like did a guest spot with Be Real and Cyprus. somewhere and like you know they they close would jump yeah and uh i didn't jump i sang the song somebody came on the podcast because i do his quite a bit and uh was like we saw you know i was like yo i don't have to jump yeah like my knees did enough of that you say it he doesn't or cooked they're fine yeah dude when i started comedy i used to sweat every show run around freak out and then i hurt i tore my ACL MCL and it was the best thing that ever happened because now I just stand. I don't fucking sweat at all.
Starting point is 00:39:17 You just do the lean. Yeah, I'll do a lean. He sits. He's got the bed. He'll just walk out. He walked out in front of 20,000 people and just sat and faced one section, which is like the- 76,000 people. Oh, I'm sorry. I apologize. He did the Shane show.
Starting point is 00:39:32 That's right. Because I got COVID at Skank Fest, bro. He did? I think that's everybody does. In the height of it, I went, remember when I came and played and I came to your show the next night. And I remember sitting there and, like, sitting in the room, like, not worried too much. And then I'm, like, looking around and, like, nobody has a mask on, including me. And then we're all just like, ha.
Starting point is 00:39:53 I'm like, oh, dude, I might be cooked. Yeah. Remember, I left and I told you, man, I loved that. I needed that because I'd been trapped inside for a lot. Like, two days later, I'm, like, dying in my living room. Yeah, I got COVID last year at Skankfest. Worth it. It's still there.
Starting point is 00:40:06 I think they give it to you in the merch bag now. Yeah, it comes with a nice little package. Yeah, you get prep and, uh, vaccines. We can't vaccines is Skangfest now. Skangfest is in New Orleans this year. Man, there's nothing better than to tell somebody like, I'm playing Skangfest, you want to come? It is hard to explain to people.
Starting point is 00:40:23 That is for sure. You know, it's funny you said you and be real. I've always, I mean, it's not by accident either. I'm sure. It's funny, like, you guys were almost like a genre of rap and it's like a subgenre of rap or something about the sound of it was the same kind of energy you guys had. And almost the same kind of thing that like raged against.
Starting point is 00:40:43 the machine did that's why i think cypress hill plays like the rage song when they perform live it's such a it's the soul assassins yeah yeah that's um has a lot to do with mugs and him actually being a producer that developed and made his own sound you know and then we just kind of all revolved even the stuff lethal do we all kind of just formed around that i mean that's a that's a high compliment to you know because that's what you or at least what we used to aspire to do is be original um now i days the algorithm tells you what to like so it's a little weird it's a little different instead of people chasing individuality they're almost chasing this we all got to sound like that if we want to be
Starting point is 00:41:22 that big kind of it's a little weird do you still keep a relationship with a iced tea like ice tea was the first person that put you a syndicate right first he discovered me i i talked to him occasionally you know he's a busy guy i'm a busy guy he just put out a album by the way that's pretty freaking good that's that's another name i was like before he just put out album released it himself is only selling it on his website you can't stream it anywhere but his website hip hop album a hip hop out straight rap album i was gonna say he's another two genre body count yeah yeah were you ever drawn into a diff any other genre of me did you think because i know you did the i mean best song and the best soundtrack ever uh just another victim but i mean did you would ever i mean that wasn't that was you rapping over like uh basically
Starting point is 00:42:04 kind of the metal sound but have you ever been drawn to like rock more like hard or rock um not not to be like the front man of like some metal band or anything. And the helmet thing was fun for us because I kind of, that was my, I was in the movie. So they kind of asked me to help with music. And I said, I got an idea. I know a bunch of bands. I know a bunch of this. And this kind of, it was a burgeoning. I saw a scene of like rappers and rockers hang. And I was like, let's see what happens, you know. And everybody had made their records. And we went in to do the record with Helmet. And they had their version to just, If you listen to that song, it's really two songs.
Starting point is 00:42:42 Sure. Oh, yeah. They had their version. It's super fast. Da-da-da-da-da-da-da. And we were like, okay, how do we make this us? And we just basically sampled their shit, slowed it down, and turned it into a hip-hop song, and then stuck them together. It's the best.
Starting point is 00:42:57 I know that you guys started two minutes and 14 seconds in, or 2-17. DJ Lou, check that out from me. If I'm right about that, I think it switches at that moment. Because I fast-forwarded plenty of times to get to that part. I know, but that was a great experience. I didn't know that you were such a big experience. I didn't know that you were such a big part of that soundtrack idea itself, because that's... I mean, not that it hadn't been done before.
Starting point is 00:43:16 If I was a smarter man, it would have been on my own label, but I didn't know how to do that, and my manager did, so he co-opted and started his own label. And now he's a, you know, label scumbag somewhere. Do we have to start playing... I don't want to like that. And I hope you heard that shit, bro. Yeah, we got to... What song you're going to play first, man? Um, uh, wow, you're making me think about that part.
Starting point is 00:43:43 I guess losing, losing man's game. Opening track, right? It is the opening track of the album, yes. Is that what I saw on World Star? They're previewing a video. Is that the video, is that a video for a losing man's game? Um, well, there, there's three videos that are kind of like one video. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:44:01 Stones, losing man's game and the most recent one mistaken identity, they're like this three volume little mini film of horrors of me fighting my own demons mistaken identity was a great video thank you I got to give
Starting point is 00:44:17 Ryan McPherson from in decline full credit for a lot that he I told him let's do something wild and weird then he came up with the stone's idea and I said now let's make
Starting point is 00:44:30 more like a longer story out of it and he just killed the whole thing so as a comedian and not an actor. Bobby's far more of an actor. I gotta say the music video experience, you really have to have your eyes in the prize of how cool it's gonna look when it's done because it must feel so silly. Like when you see a video of a video being made, it's like what you have to do, it's like go and over your own song, especially if it's like hip hop and you have, you got to do it on your kind of like hip, like lip syncing it.
Starting point is 00:44:58 It seems to be a crazy situation. Watch the first of the three stones. I'm only performing in that video. I didn't go along for the whole, it's a whole night. We have a, another guy playing me at first. And like that slowly gets revealed that way, that's actually me and then more if you haven't seen them, go check them out of three because it's worth the, it's worth the watch.
Starting point is 00:45:18 Hell yeah. You had fun making them? I had a lot of fun making them. It was probably some of the most fun videos I've made. Well, let's hear one right now. Losing Man's game. Are we a lot hot? Yeah. I could hear your heart. Buddy, that was amazing.
Starting point is 00:45:43 That was fancy. I actually played that from my wife this morning. Oh, yeah? Yeah. She was like, what are you trying to tell me? She was sleeping with her mouth open. Could be an ominous message. Don't show her the video. I actually told her that's the way I feel about my comedy. My career in show business, I just can't walk away.
Starting point is 00:46:05 Did you play guitar since you were a kid? Not officially. There was always one around. Yeah. I never really, I think I took. six months of lessons when I was 10 learned like the you know cowboy chords and and just started stealing from people
Starting point is 00:46:22 but you always kind of kept up with it a little bit a little bit on the first house of paint album there's a few things I played the oh really every time I go that's not the right key but like there's a few little little things and I was like well I can do that oh that's it's interesting
Starting point is 00:46:39 I saw a fantastic keyboard player and I was always something with whenever I see somebody cool guitar is you agree too but the way. You were fantastic. Everyone was fantastic. For off the street. For the busker. For the E-Train? Amazing. You just bought yourself
Starting point is 00:46:55 one more week in the hostel. But something about keyboard piano in general, it's always a cool. You really have to have your eyes in the prize learning piano as a kid because it never is going to feel cool then. You can make it so. I just watched the November rings. You have the GNR thing on. November
Starting point is 00:47:12 rain, you know, 94, whenever it was, you know, that it or 93, they're in Japan, and he plays a whole piano thing. And he can make it look so cool. But at one point, there was a dorky Axel Rose playing that piano, not really seeing the eyes on the prize. Have you played since you were a kid also? They say, they say if you learn piano, the other instruments are easy. It's all, if you know how to play piano, you can play guitar,
Starting point is 00:47:35 you can play anything else, right? Yeah, that's what pisses me off sometimes. He's good at everything. Right. Yeah, it's always cool at a hotel if I was a piano, and he just walks over and starts playing cool shit. But he can, you know, the thing, I can do that he can't
Starting point is 00:47:47 is I can lay across the keyboard and sing a song very seductively while he plays. Okay. He can't do that while he plays. And I'll be honest, that's impressive. That's a pretty thin area on top of that piano.
Starting point is 00:47:58 Old Sequin dress. A little strapless number. A little Passenger. I think you got it in you, dude. There we go. I think you got in you. Do a little nightclub act. That guitar looks like it's got something.
Starting point is 00:48:09 Does that mean something? Is that guitar been around for a while? Or did you just buy a distressed guitar? It's actually brand new. and Martin gave it to me. But I like that. It looks like it's oldest. It looks like he wrote 900 songs on it.
Starting point is 00:48:22 I will. Okay. This is my new favorite guy right here. Who's been your most surprising or exciting complimenter of your music, like somebody you looked up to? Ooh. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:48:41 Maybe it means too many people have complimented you? Honestly, I do know. I just popped into my head when I do. Big Daddy King when I asked him to do that war porn feature. sure. Oh, wow. And I was like, you know, whatever you need, you know, I meant, you know, if you need to get paid, whatever you need, just let me know. And he was like, dude, you're everlast. He's like, he's like, what you've done, he's like, I want to be down with that. I was like, I'm paraphrasing, but I was like, I was flabbergasted for, that's the whitest
Starting point is 00:49:05 word I can think of, by the way. For Big Daddy Kane, for sure. A room full of white dudes. It blew my mind. It, like, really, it's weird how it, like, humbles you. It doesn't really, it didn't make me, it didn't make me like, oh, no, okay. go do this it made me go like oh my god wow like big daddy cane i idolized this dude at one point when he came to the feature you excited to meet him and stuff and everything like that we we didn't get a chance to do the feature in person but i've met him many times he was a very good friend of iced tees back in a day so we spent a lot of time and like it's kind of what he brought up he's like
Starting point is 00:49:34 when i saw how you started and then what you did like he went through this whole thing that was just a beautiful compliment that i almost was unable to deal with you know it's so funny something from that kind of presence just any acknowledgement is like I did The Gathering of the Juggalo's and Rakim performed. I don't know if he enjoyed it performing that. I was about to say that's when I would not have had on my bingo card. It was a strange one. But he did great.
Starting point is 00:49:59 And then when he went off, I went up to him, I was like, dude, great show. And he went, respect. And I was like, that's all I need. He just walked away. It was like, that's plenty. No more. All I could do from there is blow it, I guess. Who's the biggest asshole you've met being in the business so long?
Starting point is 00:50:14 Man, I wouldn't even do that to somebody. Because you're not an ass Here's why Here's why Yeah I've been an ass on enough of days That I know I wasn't my best self Oh really
Starting point is 00:50:24 So unless I knew they purposely Were doing that like to me Like to be hurtful or mean I'm gonna go ahead and assume Like they do what I do for a living And we're probably on a shitty week Or bad day or just had to run A really bad shit happened
Starting point is 00:50:40 And weren't in the mood for it I read between the lines It's kid rock Come on that I just read between the lines on that It's jelly roll I've never met jelly roll Really?
Starting point is 00:50:50 Never met them We've exchanged messages back in the day But never really met So you got you have regrets that you shit you've did being famous and all that No just I mean I'm saying like I'm sure there's a fan or Even though most of them say I've been nice and I'm glad to hear that I always assume like man Anybody's gonna say something it's probably gonna be something a dick
Starting point is 00:51:10 Like I was a dick you know I'm a temperamental person sometimes I mean, I'm an intense guy at times, so I can see it. That's why I wouldn't put it on anybody else. I'll tell you one of my most disappointing things, but, you know, I never met the guy, so I don't know if he's really an ass, but like I did a series of festivals in Europe, I don't know, about 10 or so years ago, and Neil Young was headlining them all, and we were playing, I don't know if you were with me back then, and we were playing like.
Starting point is 00:51:39 You were on the subway. No, he was on the, he wasn't even born yet. What are you talking about? And I wanted to meet Neil Young. So I met the road manager. He was like, I got you. And like, I don't know if you've been to rock festivals. Like there's always the communal, like, dressing room area where it's all like these trailers.
Starting point is 00:51:54 But then there's like an area where everybody can kind of sit. There's tables, whatnot. I sat there for five nights after our set, like waiting to meet Neil Young. And the guy kept coming out. He said, he's just not feeling it tonight. So I'd be like, cool, cool. He was like, by the last night, well, yeah. Dude just took off the last night.
Starting point is 00:52:10 And again, I don't know what he was going through. But that was like, I mean, I was so geek to meet Neil Young. That was like my father's idol. It's one of the reasons I can even play. First song I ever learned to play was, Southern Man, you know? Yeah. He didn't.
Starting point is 00:52:29 He didn't know. I knew what that was. I knew it. Don't throw him out of the bus because you're autistic with music. I mean, I was listening to After the Goal Rush when I was like five, man. So, like, it was disappointing. But again, I'm not going to say the dude was an ass. I didn't even meet him.
Starting point is 00:52:45 Yeah, but, I mean, it's, you. You know, look, you know the, it's not like you're not in the business. But I know the business. I know the road manager tried really hard. Right. So that's the only part where I'm like, that's, you made your man look bad. That's the worst thing you did. So we got a few minutes less.
Starting point is 00:53:00 Can we hear another song? Sure. Yeah. Play another song? What do you got? What's the song you gonna do? We're gonna do a happy you can cry. Oh, I really want you.
Starting point is 00:53:08 I said I wanted him to and hope he also didn't play stones because I might get emotional. And he was hoping for that. I've never seen Jay emotional. I've never seen him cry in my life. Here's the only problem with stones. I have to bump an octave in that, and I just got over a cold, and this is live. Give him a break, Dickhead.
Starting point is 00:53:25 Whatever, dude. Sorry, everlasting. I'm not going to, like, have that be the meme on the internet, the three seconds of my voice cracking in the song. My apologies that Bob even suggests to something so crazy. What's the name of the song again?
Starting point is 00:53:37 Huh? It's called Happy You Could Cry. I hope you cry at this one. I hope this is worse than Stones. It might be. That was great, man. You almost got him. You almost got him.
Starting point is 00:53:52 You almost got him. Oh, that last line. No one gets out. Just be happy. You can cry. I saw his little beautiful eyelashes clipped together to hold it back. Do you have a quiver?
Starting point is 00:54:01 Like a sweat lip. As I get older, man, like music like this, that kind of means something, it just makes you feel something. I just love it. I'm just so into this type of music now. That's what I mean when I say, I want to make a rap.
Starting point is 00:54:18 record that does that. You know what I mean? Like, and I just do it, but I know it is. It's just a little more effort than, because what we cared about when we were young listening to rap was getting drunk, party, and having fun, so that's the music catered to it. Don't forget pussy. You know, all that.
Starting point is 00:54:33 That's what we were just yeah. Yeah. That was it. That's all you need it. That's all you need it. You know, now it's like, do you think you would have appreciated your own music when you were younger? Or would you have kind of written? I remember
Starting point is 00:54:48 seen that there was a time of that where even when I was young at a point and I was more like rock and hip hop country as just an overall general thing you were like be eh you know what I mean? Or even like orchestral music and stuff like that you just kind of write it all off and then you kind of go to oh no it starts to hit you at a certain point
Starting point is 00:55:06 I don't know if I would have been exposed to it maybe because any good music like I was down with a bunch of punk rock dudes and all stuff when I was doing the hip hop or getting into hip hop, not even doing it yet. But, like, the antithesis to punk rock is the Eagles. Like, you ask a true punk rock person, they'll be like, fuck the Eagles, man.
Starting point is 00:55:29 But I would hear, you know, I could love an Eagles song, too. I could love a Dead Kennedy song. I've never really, like, separated. Would it be the main music I was listening to? No, at certain points in my life. But I think that's why I was able to, and my parents, my dad was rock and roll, Southern Rock Construction Worker,
Starting point is 00:55:47 12ers a day while he's hanging sheet rocking. My mom's over here listening to the Supremes and Marvin Gay and all the 50s do-op stuff. So it's like I had this really bizarre mix in the home that made for good music. I think that's our age. I say that too. It's why I was an interesting time as I grew up
Starting point is 00:56:08 with like the music that became my music was that it was kind of influenced from everything. It's like there was no like at the same time I was buying fear of a black planet I was like also getting like the door's greatest hits like I just like kind of whatever
Starting point is 00:56:23 like hit you I kind of wanted to take it all in and all for different moods too like a lot of people think I'm like I said I started I thought I was gonna be a graffiti artist if you look at those early graffiti books like subway art and whatnot
Starting point is 00:56:34 and you see that there's they wrote Led Zeppelin on their piece there was like rock kids doing it there was B-boy kids doing it there was just weirdos doing it you know I mean well there was a crossover of the style I thought it was interesting if you look at
Starting point is 00:56:45 like the message, like Grandmaster Flash in his early videos, there was no style to hip hop yet. So it was like adopted heavy metal stuff. So they're almost wearing like Judas Priest, spiky bracelets and like funcadelic. Yeah, they were like in, that was their outfits. They were confused, like, no one really knew exactly what to do exactly. Run DMC came and put down the official like B-Boy look. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:06 The leather of the Adidas and stuff. Sneakers and sweatsuits and a hat. But it was, yeah, in that beginning no one knew. It was like people wearing football pads and stuff. But they were also great showmen. Oh, yeah, yeah. They were trying to do. They were just trying to make for great shows.
Starting point is 00:57:17 So I don't know if I could have, you know, rock knee-high, you know, spiked boots. But, you know, it worked for that. At the time. Well, yeah, but you also came at a time where, like, kind of like being your, like, your coolest at the time self was the cell. It wasn't like character stuff. You know, there wasn't like a, you know,
Starting point is 00:57:36 you're all in the house. Pain, Spaceship, baby. You just come down with, like, a wigs and shit. The idea was to be as, like, as yourself and, like, street as you were. bigger and played around how we've done some shit like that that's the one thing I always give to Fred like Fred of me
Starting point is 00:57:50 became friends over the years but like they used to murder that shit dude they'd spend all their money on production at first who uh Limbiscuit oh yeah like whatever you feel about limb biscuit their shows were fucking killers
Starting point is 00:58:04 I did have spaceship alien invasions and laser it was crazy it was also people that tried to hate on them is so funny because I did I performed on shiprocked crews a couple times, God bless you. I can't do it.
Starting point is 00:58:17 I can't do it. I can't be trapped on a boat with people like for that. It's a lot. It's a lot. I've done plenty. And it is a lot. But the shiprock crews,
Starting point is 00:58:28 limpisket was, they stopped announcing who the headliners were of it because they was already sell tickets. Didn't matter. People kind of came for the cruise. And that year when they announced it was limp biscuit, a lot of people like gave back,
Starting point is 00:58:42 they were like, now and they gave them like refunds. And then I think West Borland said something shitty. And the people were kind of like, fuck him before you got on the cruise. Even like, stay in your cabin, dude. Nobody wants to hang with you either. And then when they perform, though, all was, I mean, that boat came alive so much. Down to, like, the staff there was going.
Starting point is 00:59:00 Like, they put on a hell of a show. And then we went to go see him mostly for Corey Feldman. But we did go see him on the Loserville tour a couple of a year ago. I thought you meant Corey, like, at first from a slip knot. No, wait, wait, wait. Nope. Corey Feldman opened for Limbisgut on that last tour.
Starting point is 00:59:16 And he rocked it. It was amazing. I would have seen that. If we had tickets and drinks that night, we would have went, right? Yeah, we would have. If you have a chance to catch him anywhere, I suggest seeing Corey.
Starting point is 00:59:27 I just watch a part of that little film, like, but I have to finish it. We're in that film in the very back of one scene of something when we went to his show in New York, but he does not enjoy us at all. But, boy, do we enjoy him. If you get a chance to see Corey Feldman live, I'd always say, do it.
Starting point is 00:59:43 You want to see a guitar solo? His guitar solo, it's unparalleled. It's unparalleled. It's a way of sight. You know, a lot of people you'll see, sometimes you see like 100% talent in life. It's a sad thing when you see 100% talent and no, like, ambition, no motivation, no effort on 100% talent. He is 100% effort, zero talent.
Starting point is 01:00:07 He goes, but to watch somebody give 110% of themselves. There's got to be something. been there for him. Oh, there is. You gotta give it to him. Oh, there is. I said at what point do you not have to just say,
Starting point is 01:00:19 I'm a fan. I'm a fan. I've gone to three shows. No, I think he's phenomenal. But he wouldn't love the reasons why. He's a fan of himself. Oh, boy, is he? Where are you going to be touring?
Starting point is 01:00:31 Right now, we're doing a bunch of, like, guest spots over until the end of the year. Like I said, you know, when you're gone for eight years, you've got to go out there and kick some people in the face and get their attention again. So we're going to do a few good little moments. I think we
Starting point is 01:00:45 do Oceans Calling. Yeah, I got it right here. Ocean's Calling Festival. I'm playing with Atmospheric Red Rocks. September 19th. And next week we do this Americana Fest thing in Nashville. September 16th back to Nashville where it started. I like that city a lot. And you live in L.A.
Starting point is 01:01:02 Yeah, split time. I have a place in Nashville now and I keep up because I made so many friends there and like it's such a different speed at L.A. Yeah. Like people ain't going out to clubs every night you know if you go out it's to a cool bar like a little dive bar or something but mostly it's a bunch of homies getting together cooking for each other shooting pool and drinking there was an exodus
Starting point is 01:01:24 from laa it's really cool to me it's like a different vibe there was a real people in a weird way there was like an la exodus of like musicians that went to nashville at one point i know the uh yeah i try to avoid them i'm a head i try to hang with the locals you know i mean you know who the la people are by way just driving on the freeway. Every time I'm like, guarantee you, L.A., right there. You've had Hattie B's, that's the most important thing, right? Haddy B's chicken.
Starting point is 01:01:47 Yeah, you know, it's all right. I'm more of a velvet taco guy, you know. That's good a baby. And if you ain't, Nashville's great. Go for a velvet taco. Oh, I have. It's a good spot. The new album is called Embers to Ashes available right now,
Starting point is 01:02:02 produced by Yellow Wolf. Again, Americana Fest coming up September 16th. Red Rock's Ampitheater with Atmosphericia, September 19th, and Ocean's Calling Fest. September 25th, Everlast. Always cool to have you here. Always cool to come, man. It's great to meet you, man.
Starting point is 01:02:14 That's unbelievable songs. Are you going to tour, tour? Yeah. I mean, I would say that'll start early next year. Like, we'll probably hit Europe real quick, then come back here and do the back and forth of the summer festival, festival, spring festival runs. We will see you when you're in New York, my man, 100%.
Starting point is 01:02:29 I want to play the music, so it's just got to be comfortable for me at this point. Honestly, that's really my biggest thing is that it's not, don't take the fun out of it for me. Yeah. I mean, I'm not grinding like that anymore. You got to keep this kid off the streets. We saved him. He's your rescue guitar player?
Starting point is 01:02:47 The thing I'm a name of Sparky, actually. Sparky's a good name. He might bite, but just, you know, he seems pretty cool. I'm going to Corey Feldman's if this doesn't work out. Oh, hey, Corey, he's a bargain. Yeah, as long as you're willing to wear like an angel outfit. Yeah. Whatever it takes.
Starting point is 01:03:07 Yes. That's what he likes to hear. That's what he likes to hear. Corey's angels. Sparky. Thank you so much, Everlast. Thank you guys so much for listening.
Starting point is 01:03:16 And we'll be back tomorrow live. Back tomorrow live. On the bond. I'm sad. Jay didn't cry, but, you know, came close, bro. Came close. Next time I come back,
Starting point is 01:03:24 please. This is right, I'll get them. You got to get him. I'll get him. Until next time, crackle, crackle.
