I know what it's like to feel like you have all these things to do. You're working 80-hour weeks,
but that bank balance isn't moving. We talk about exactly what you need to make sure you are able
to focus on the needle-moving tasks that build you revenue versus the busy tasks.
A boss babe is unapologetically ambitious and paves the way for herself and other women to rise.
Keep going and fighting on. She is on a
mission to be her best self in all areas. It's just believing in yourself. Confidently stepping
outside her comfort zone to create her own vision of success. Welcome to the Boss Bay Podcast to our
second ever Boss Bay Business School episode. Now, like I said, these are really short episodes
where we are giving you digestible,
actionable advice. There's no fluff, there's no BS, just key things that you need to do and know
to build your business. So in the second episode, I'm going to be talking about the six stages of
building a business. This is actually from a proven framework that Natalie and I discovered
on our missions in building Boss Babe and our companies
before that. And that we've understood from speaking to some of the best female entrepreneurs
in the entire world. I'm talking women who have built billion dollar businesses. So you're going
to want to listen up to this episode. I want to cut through the fluff because I feel at times,
it kind of feels very confusing to build a business. Like what's
next? And every single person has a different way of doing it. However, there are some core
fundamentals to being a really successful entrepreneur. And actually, in fact, there's
just six of them. That's it. Just six things that you need to be thinking about. And I'm going to
be running through those things in this episode. Also, I'm going to tell you how you can get your hands on a checklist, which is going to walk you through this entire process with specific
action points that you need to do at every single stage. The first pillar is mindset. It really is
true that building your business is 80% mindset and 20% skill. And what I mean by that is, look, yes, do you have to be able to learn,
adapt and make strategic decisions? Yes. But actually, one of the biggest hurdles for women
and men building businesses is actually the mindset. It's being able to make mistakes
and carry on anyway. It's being able to try things and then to fail and pick yourself up
and have another go. It's about being
able to hear rejection over and over again and see that as redirection. And so if you don't have
a strong mindset, if you aren't consistently working on your mental health, you are really,
really going to struggle in this space. So I say this upfront because I don't want anyone to think
that, oh, if I'm smart, I'm going to be able to build a successful business.
If you are smart and you work on your mindset,
you are going to be able to build a successful business.
I'm also just going to say as well,
I'm not even the smartest person in the room, right?
So it's not even a lot of the time
about skill sets and strategy.
It really is about how many times you can do things,
trial and error to make the right decisions and keep going when most people would give up.
It really is making sure you have the determination, alignment with your why and why you were doing
this in the first place.
The second pillar is purpose.
Knowing why you actually want to create your business.
What is it that is making you feel like this is really important? Is it because
you notice a gap in the market and you're really excited to fulfill that and you want to help
support other people? Is it that you want to create a lifestyle for yourself, you and your
family where maybe you have more flexibility or you have more control of your income?
Or perhaps it's like, you know what? I just really want to be my own boss. I want to have creative freedom.
Another one might be, I just have this deep desire that I'm meant for more.
And so I want to pursue something.
Whatever it is, understanding your purpose really is at the core of building a business,
understanding your why and understanding the business why.
For me, I truly deeply care about women making more money in business.
I genuinely feel like if more money was in the hands of women in this world, the world
would be a better place.
And so it's my mission to help more women get to six-figure businesses, to get to seven-figure
businesses.
That's why we also don't keep any of the information back for ourselves.
You guys who have been in a society or influencer school or online launch school know that we
give our best advice to you
guys. The same with this podcast. We're never tiptoeing around and keeping secrets to ourselves.
We want to be giving you all because that's my personal mission. So when you have a mission and
a purpose that is so ingrained with who you are, you can't help but go after it. So first of all,
the key thing is to understand your business mission and your personal mission and why you
want to create that. The third pillar to building a business is your audience. Understanding
your audience. If you try and sell to everybody, you sell to nobody. It is okay to ensure that
your business is just for a certain niche. Look at us. We market to women. We're okay allowing
men to feel like, oh, can I join Boss Babe? Can I join Boss
Babe? That's okay. We're a brand for women. Yes, they can, but we're not marketing towards them.
I was just looking at a supplement company the other day. They specifically target women who
are trying to get pregnant, fertility, right? That is okay. They're not targeting every woman
in this world, but there's still enough business. So being really clear on who your audience is and making sure you're creating content that is specifically for them. It may well
be polarizing to other people. You may well turn other people off, but that is okay because when
you speak to your audience and your audience specifically, they know, like, and trust you
and they love you. And that's the key thing with building a business, really, really creating them. let's take a quick pause to talk about my new favorite all-in-one platform kajabi
you know i've been singing their praises lately because they have helped our business run
so much smoother and with way less complexity which i love not to mention our team couldn't
be happier because now everything is in one place so So it makes collecting data, creating pages, collecting payment, all the things so much simpler.
One of our mottos at Boss Babe is simplify to amplify.
And Kajabi has really helped us do that this year.
So, of course, I needed to share it here with you.
It's the perfect time of year to do a bit of spring cleaning in your business.
You know, get rid of the complexity and instead really focus on getting organized and
making things as smooth as possible i definitely recommend kajabi to all of my clients and students
so if you're listening and haven't checked out kajabi yet now is the perfect time to do so because
they are offering boss babe listeners a 30-day free trial go to kajabi.com slash boss babe to
claim your 30-day free trial that's kajabi.com slash boss babe to claim your 30-day free trial. That's kajabi.com slash
boss babe. The fourth point in the pillar is revenue. So really understanding not only how
you can meet that first sale, but how you can sell over and over again. But getting very,
very clear on what that business model is, ensuring that there's profit margins are
thought about, ensuring that when you're building that product business that you have those spreadsheets outlined, that you know what your cost of goods are sold to allow a person to come
in that customer journey and buy from you. So really, really focusing on that revenue and that
sale aspect. So another way to think about this is audience is very much about content creation
and at the top of that funnel. And then revenue is that marketing side of it,
really getting them down through that funnel over the edge into buying.
Systems is the next pillar, which really we don't get anyone to think about until
after they've done at least their first 10K and they're becoming a little bit more consistent.
And that is the systems that support your business. So the tech infrastructure, the software,
the people, the processes, everything lined up, looking at what happens on a repeated basis that could be automated. How do we make your business more
efficient? And that helps us understand how we make it more scalable when we head into that
growth section. Who are we hiring that's actually better than us that are going to make our business
more of a success? So I share this with you to know that building a business can seem overwhelming
and it can totally seem confusing.
I get that. But when you follow this proven framework, it is so much easier all the way
from mindset and the support systems that you can do with yourself. Even if it's like having
affirmations on your phone, which I teach in the checklist, or even if it's in the purpose section,
I taught you exactly about how to set up an LLC or an S-Corp or a C-Corp,
whichever is better for you. Or in audience, I talk about on the checklist, deciding which
platform you should go to because not every platform is right for you and you shouldn't
be starting on three platforms at once. You should just start on one and then expand to two from
there. The same with revenue. We talk about exactly what you need to make sure you are able to focus on the needle
moving tasks that build you revenue versus the busy tasks. I know what it's like to feel like
you have all these things to do. You're working 80-hour weeks, but that bank balance isn't moving.
We get you focusing on specific items within it. Then moving on to systems, hiring templates,
Google Drive templates of what you
actually need in your business, Slack, Typeform, whatever software that we have discovered that
works best, we share that with you. And then growth, JD descriptions are really helping you
understand what jobs you love doing and what tasks you should be outsourcing and how to make decisions
on when to hire, when not to hire, who to hire, all of those things.
