Starting point is 00:00:00 A boss babe is unapologetically ambitious and paves the way for herself and other women to rise, keep going, and fighting on. She is on a mission to be her best self in all areas. It's just believing in yourself. Confidently stepping outside her comfort zone to create her own vision of success. Welcome to the Boss Babe podcast, the place where we share with you the real behind the scenes of building successful businesses, achieving performance and learning how to balance it all. I'm Danielle Canty, co-founder and president of Boss Babe and your host for one of my favorite episodes, which is the Boss Babe Business School
Starting point is 00:00:46 podcast episodes. These short mini episodes giving you everything that you need that is actually going to create actionable steps for you to grow your business. And today, I want to talk about content creation and how to know if that piece of content that you have spent so long creating is even actually a good idea and people will engage that. I want to give you the behind the scenes hacks that I've learned over the years because you know what? It's been a while since I started showing up on social media. In fact, 2017 was when I first got my Instagram account, joined Boss Babe 2018 and really wrestled with myself on how to create the confidence to show up in my own personal brand
Starting point is 00:01:26 without hiding behind a quote. And I will say one of the things I learned was that confidence is bred by competence. But in order to gain competence, you have to study, you have to listen, you have to learn, and you also have to be able to try it and willing to fail. But through my learnings, I wanted to create this podcast episode to share some of those tips and tricks that I learned along the way, because there were three things that I decided and understood made good content. So first of all is how do you know if it's a good content? Well, I want you to look through the lens of the four E's. This is my formula that I created and decided to really understand what was a good piece of content. So first of all, the four E's are emotion, number one. So you want to look at your
Starting point is 00:02:11 piece of content and think to yourself, does this make someone feel something? When they watch this video, when they read this quote, when they watch this scroll through, do they feel anything? If they do, amazing. It's probably going to be a good piece of content to post. If it doesn't, then does it have one of the next Eves? Entertainment. So does it tell a story? Does it, as soon as you start seeing that video, hook them in? I'm going to share one that I saw the other day, which is a dancing one. And the way that they had created the entertainment in it was that they had got basically these three guys lined up running and the suspense was they'd hooked me in because what
Starting point is 00:02:51 were they going to do? They were just running together. And then they did a slow-mo triple backflip together, right? But my point is it was entertaining because there was this hook of hang on a minute and suspense. What are they going to do next? So you either need that hook of what are they going to do next or straight into a story that has people watching it. Another example I saw the other day was on Jay Shetty's, this little boy meeting his baby sister the first time. And it hooked me in because the first line was him just looking down at her and then looking up. And it's like, it's telling a story. And that went viral because it also created emotion within that. So it's hitting two of the four E's. Another E that you want to be making sure you hit is to educate. Are you educating them? Do you teach them something? I've done ones about productivity before, ones about hydration. I've
Starting point is 00:03:44 seen other people do. There's Miss Excel. She creates ones specifically teaching about how to utilize Excel. There's cookery ones, all types of things. So you have to be making sure you are educating them if you aren't entertaining them, nor creating emotion. And the last one, which is what people always forget, but is one of the ones that I think is most interesting to do, is the enemy. You unite them over something. Now, I'm not saying you have to unite them over someone, what do we mean? But you bring people together with a common mission. Something they stand against as well as standing for is really, really powerful. And when you can portray that into your reels, your content, your social media content, that is a great way to actually build community from. As Boss Babe, we stood for ambitious women. We stood against not being able to share our dreams. We wanted to be unapologetically ambitious and we brought people together through that, through our sassy quotes. And also what was just interesting in our share is we would swear in our quotes,
Starting point is 00:04:45 which a lot of people can be against, but actually that kind of united and cemented the community even more. Those were like, you know what? I kind of liked it when they said shit that time. It shocks the brain. It's out of the ordinary when you were first seeing it. So just remember those four E's. When you're looking at your content, when you're either planning your piece of content or you've already created it, but look at through the lens of does it have the four E's? It has to have one of the E's, emotion, entertainment, educate, or enemy. And bonus points, the more it has, the more likely it is to do well. Okay. So it's a great way to know if that piece of content is going to be worth putting out. Let's take a quick pause to talk about my new favorite all-in-one platform, Kajabi. You know I've been singing their praises
Starting point is 00:05:28 lately because they have helped our business run so much smoother and with way less complexity, which I love. Not to mention our team couldn't be happier because now everything is in one place, so it makes collecting data, creating pages, collecting payment, all the things so much simpler. One of our mottos at Boss Babe is simplify to amplify and Kajabi has really helped us do that this year. So of course I needed to share it here with you. It's the perfect time of year to do a bit of spring cleaning in your business, you know, get rid of the complexity and instead really focus on getting organized and making things as smooth as possible. I definitely recommend Kajabi
Starting point is 00:06:05 to all of my clients and students so if you're listening and haven't checked out Kajabi yet now is the perfect time to do so because they are offering Boss Babe listeners a 30-day free trial go to kajabi.com slash boss babe to claim your 30-day free trial that's kajabi.com slash boss babe. Number two, if you want to be creating content that has the best reach, I'm not going to lie to you guys, reels and videos are absolutely where it's at right now. Static posts are just not working. The only way you can get around static posts really is if you're doing a carousel and there's a couple of them, but really what can you turn into a reel is the better question to be asking yourself. And I wanted to just share with you a couple of tips for creating good reels.
Starting point is 00:06:51 So first of all, if you are going after virality, this is a hack that we teach at Influencer School, keeping your reels under seven seconds is a really, really great way because it actually means that someone watches it more than once, which then feeds into the algorithm that, oh my goodness, this must be a great piece of content because people are watching it over and over again. So ensuring that not all the time, like your watch mind,
Starting point is 00:07:15 I have some several that are over seven seconds, but the ones that are under seven seconds, you're normally getting multiple watches, which really, really help. Another key thing, particularly just starting out on social, you're really trying to grow, is jumping on trending audios. Now, a great way to understand whether audio is going to trend is picking it just around the 10,000 mark. Past that, it's already trending, okay? And it's really kind of, if we're at 50,000, it's really
Starting point is 00:07:43 starting to trend right now. But I would say that sweet spot is around that 10,000 mark, just above, just under, because it's really starting to pick up. If you are watching on TikTok and you are building on TikTok, TikTok actually has some accounts which share with you those trending audios. We talk about this again in Everyone's a School. And we also spoke about it on a podcast I did with Drea Knows Best if you want to search for that as well. And then the last one to really boost and know with your content or give your content the best chance of doing well is to ask for a call to action, a CTA. I want you to ask for the engagement. So many people don't ask for what they want that they're really missing a trick. So say like, hey, double tap and like this if you agree, or share with me your favorite
Starting point is 00:08:29 hacks on productivity, or save this post as a reminder of what you're looking forward to this week. I know I just came up with that one. In fact, what I did just the other day was I did a little pin mark at the front of it. And I said, true confidence isn't about being something you're not. It's about accepting and loving exactly who you are right now and recognizing you are worthy. And then under that, I put drop your confidence tips below and save this post for the reminder when you need it. Thousands of you saved that, which really boosted that reel into the algorithm. So a reminder to always ask for that CTA. Don't be afraid to ask for that
Starting point is 00:09:14 comment, that like, that save. And if you want to support your friends, know that the best engagement is giving them two comments, a like, and a save. When you get that triad, that is a really great way and a great signal to Instagram, to the algorithm that this is a good piece of content. Okay. So I hope you enjoyed this three simple tips to know whether that content is going to do well or not. I don't want anyone procrastinating, not putting that piece of content out there, but just having a quick look at it and be like, right, where am I hitting one of the four E's? Where am I asking for the CTA? And where am I really playing into
Starting point is 00:09:51 what is trending on social media right now? So if you love these tips, I have so many more of where these came from. I'm going to put a link to a free downloadable, a viral reels guide, where we're teaching you even more tips and tricks to go viral on social media. And I'm also going to link you to a training that Natalie did teaching how to grow
Starting point is 00:10:11 and monetize your account. Because let me tell you, we made a million dollars way before we had a million followers. In fact, just the other day, I was getting a testimonial throw from someone who was in influencer school who made $23,000 within 20 days. And she grew her account from naught followers to 80,000 followers, which is absolutely insane. But she was applying the things that we were teaching with the influencer school, because not only have we been doing this on my account, Boss Baby's account and Natalie's account, but we've also been teaching you guys over the last few years on how to grow on Instagram particularly, and now YouTube, TikTok,
Starting point is 00:10:50 et cetera, and bringing those resources together, bringing the best teachers so that you really, really understand on how you can move the needle. Because marketing really starts with social media. You cannot have a personal brand. You cannot have a business right now without really focusing on social media as your marketing tool, your key marketing tool. And if you understand organic content, then you can understand paid content. So it's a really, really great resource. And both those things are free for you. So download the Viral Wheels Guide now. Go watch that training. Carve out that 90 minutes to watch it. It does sound like a long time, but it's packed full of key things and tips and tricks
Starting point is 00:11:25 and resources that you can be applying along the way. And as always, permission to post and not do well sometimes. That is okay. You're going to get feedback from those times. So I don't want anyone to be paralyzed in fear. The key thing is that you are trying. That is what building a business and growing on social media is all about. So just always remember that. The learnings are sometimes within the failures and that growth is often within the things that you have tried and failed at. So best of luck.
