Welcome to the Boss Babe podcast and one of our Boss Bay Business School
episodes with myself, Danielle Canty. Now, if you're listening on the podcast, welcome back.
And if you're joining us on YouTube, welcome again, because we're just reinvigorating the
YouTube channel right now. Now, this is going to be a really good lesson if you're wanting to know how to start and scale your business via creating social media content without the stress. This is
a great training for you if you ever find yourself constantly creating new content as though you're
on a content creation hamster wheel that you're really ready to jump off of. Because let me tell
you, I've been there and it's not pretty. A while back,
I noticed I could just never create enough content no matter what I did. I was always
feeling like I was scrambling for something to post. I was doing podcast interviews with
interesting people that lit me up and gave me so much energy. But then the next day,
trying to do a bloody lip sync, a reel for some Instagram post,
I was just like, this is not lighting me up and it is not fun.
It wasn't a big deal for me to focus on securing a guest and doing an interview and releasing
that very week.
But it was really difficult for me to work out how to repurpose that content and put
it in multiple places across social media channels and emails.
This is for you, whether you love posting on reels, designing, writing, or podcasting, it doesn't really matter.
But my guess is that you're probably not great or loving doing every single one of them.
And this is a conversation about how you can utilize our rhythm, our method to make sure you
just do the one thing that you love at and that you are
really, really good at. In fact, I wanted to do this podcast to make sure that you can be
repurposing your podcast interviews or whether you love email, you can be repurposing it into
podcasts, whatever that looks like, so that you can create epic content all the time.
Like I said, I was on this constant hamster wheel. And it turns out it
was because I was doing everything wrong. And I'm not afraid to admit that. But what I did realize
that I had everything I needed to be showing up consistently on all the platforms without actually
doing any extra work. But I actually hadn't figured out how to sync it all together. And that
is exactly what I'm going to be sharing with you today so
that you don't make the same mistakes that I actually did. And all this comes down to something
called the hub and spoke content system. And this allows you to duplicate your work, essentially.
It helps you duplicate your time. So I want you to do this. I want you to picture a bicycle.
And in the middle of that wheel on the bicycle is the hub, okay? And
coming off it are what we call spokes. A lot of us spend most of our time creating spoke-type
content. So that's like your wheel, a quote, an infographic type of content, small pieces that
you're putting out on social media on an irregular or consistent basis. It doesn't really matter.
And the problem with this is that it's hard to distribute content like this when it's small
across multiple platforms and deliver strong value. It actually requires very frequent creation
to keep it up. Now, what happens is if you spend your time actually creating the hub type content,
which is at the center of the wheel,
like emails and podcasts and YouTube videos, you're actually going to be able to chop this
content up and repurpose it into the spoke type content. So for example, this podcast that I'm
recording right now is actually initially an email, which got repurposed into a podcast and a carousel post. Now, the
podcast will also be turned into a YouTube video, as you can see, you're probably watching on
YouTube now, and broken down into multiple video clips to use as reels. I spent my time doing just
one thing, which was writing this podcast script. And this has then been turned into multiple pieces
of content without me having
to actually create anything else. So the lesson is, spend the most time on your long-form content
that you love. Because it's hard to do anything consistently that you don't really enjoy.
So make sure that you're picking the hub style, that long-form, the hub content that you actually
really enjoy creating. So whether you prefer writing emails or making videos or recording audios, you'll want to make sure that you maintain
that type of content as your primary. And then the spokes are cut off that to create lots of
additional pieces of short form content. Let's take a quick pause to talk about my new favorite
all-in-one platform, Kajabi. You know, I've been singing their praises lately because they have
helped our business run so much smoother and with way less complexity, which I love. Not to
mention our team couldn't be happier because now everything is in one place, so it makes collecting
data, creating pages, collecting payment, all the things so much simpler. One of our mottos at Boss
Babe is simplify to amplify and Kajabi has really helped us do that this year.
So of course I needed to share it here with you.
It's the perfect time of year to do a bit of spring cleaning in your business, you know.
Get rid of the complexity and instead really focus on getting organized and making things as smooth as possible.
I definitely recommend Kajabi to all of my clients and students. So if you're listening and haven't
checked out Kajabi yet, now is the perfect time to do so because they are offering Boss Babe
listeners a 30-day free trial. Go to kajabi.com slash boss babe to claim your 30-day free trial.
That's kajabi.com slash boss babe. Let me break this down if you're a little unsure what you
actually want to focus on. I would suggest that you focus on the things that light you up and that you really enjoy
versus the things that actually feel like a chore.
Next question, you're like, okay, Danielle, I get it.
I'm doing my hub.
It's going to be turned into these spoke type short pieces of content.
Actually, how is that going to happen?
You see, the thing that you need to
then work on is replicating a system that is duplicatable. Things still need to happen in
order to turn that podcast into an email or that email into a podcast. And there's multiple social
clips. And here's where the content system kicks in. You need to be able to leverage a management
software. I'm personally a big fan of Asana. And if you're
watching this on YouTube, I'm going to display ours right now. And this will enable you to have
a team, an admin support, pulling your content from that long form. And what's epic about this
is they are then going to turn that one piece of content into lots of micro content. They just need
a clear picture of what success looks like.
Your gold standard, as we say. So my advice is you do it yourself for the first few times.
So you have your long piece of content, you pull it, you extract maybe a short email or some social
media posts, and you show your team what that looks like so that when you delegate it out,
they have a crystal clear picture of what they are going to do.
So now you have your hub and your spokes. You have your one piece of content. You have your team chopping up. I want to talk to you about the rhythm. Every single system needs the rhythm.
This is the beat of the drum that happens consistently all the time. And once you have
a system and you have a rhythm, you know exactly what is happening week on week or day on month
or month on month, whatever that looks like, okay? Let me break this down and give you another
example. My personal content rhythm for podcast is week one, I'm brainstorming and securing guests
for the podcast. Week two, I'm writing scripts and questions for the podcast. Week three,
I'm batch recording podcast episodes. And week four, I'm editing and creating micro
content for this spoke type method. So every single month, we are running the same things
every single week. So you know exactly what to expect and what needs to get done.
Now, the last point in this method and making sure it implements is to seek mentorship. Now,
if I continued on this
path alone, I'd have been feeling incredibly overwhelmed by the amount of content I needed
to create. In fact, that's what I was doing. I wasn't alone for a long time because I was trying
to create all these pieces of content until I met with Brendan Bouchard and he taught me about how I
could create a rhythm in my business. He taught me that actually,
I don't need to be doing every single thing brand new, and there's a methods away. So after
researching and looking and listening to Brendan and researching other users, that's when Nathalie
and I came up with this hub and spoke model. And mentorship is a big reason that we've teamed up
with Brendan Bouchard and a bunch of other thought leaders and creators in the education space
to bring you the ultimate Influencer Summit in November.
