Well, there's a lot in it, but it's also filled with the standout star omega-3.

You should also know that ritual is vegan, sugar-free, non-GMO, gluten-free, and allergen-free.
It's made in the USA without synthetic filters or colorants.
Anyway, I'm trying it for a long-term thing, and I'll update you guys along the way, but so far I'd give it an A.

say hi. Have a cup of propel. She's a lifestyle blogger extraordinaire.
And he's a serial entrepreneur.
A very smart cookie.
And now Lauren Everts and Michael Bostic are bringing you along for the ride.
Get ready for some major realness.
Welcome to the skinny confidential, him and her.
Aha.
I've seen a lot of mediums or like, well, like I even did Tyler Henry on E.
And I've seen a few other people like him.
And they just say stuff that is so, so.
accurate and just no one would know unless they could talk to my brother in some sort of way.
And like shit that like it's just beyond.
Welcome back to the skinny confidential him and her show.
If you're new to the show, thank you for joining.
That clip was from our guest of the show today at Kristen Cavalry.
Many of you are familiar with Kristen from her time on Laguna Beach and or the Hills.
She's now a mom married to a former NFL quarterback with three kids.
she's getting ready to appear on her new show, Very Cavalry.
On this episode, we discuss parenting, workout routines, haters, the grieving process, food,
and morning routines.
So for those of you who are new to the show, I'm Lauren Everett's.
I'm the creator of The Skinny Confidential, which is a blog, a brand, a book, and obviously
a podcast.
The Skinny Confidential has become a resource for women all over the world, which has turned
into a huge community of hundreds of thousands of women, especially on Facebook.
You guys are all connecting.
It's super, super cool to watch.
And I'm Michael Bostic.
I am an entrepreneur and business operator.
I am the rock star in this relationship.
Podcast extraordinaire.
No, Lauren, she's giving me the death stare.
Okay, never mind.
I came a little too hot on that one, guys.
I was trying to switch up my introduction.
And yeah, Michael Bostic, entrepreneur, businessman.
Let's tone it down.
Let's not make the wife pissed off.
You also need to really brush up your eyebrows today.
They are so down there covering your eyes.
I this is a rare day for me today and this is gross but I have not showered all day today.
That's super rare. You never do that. It's thrown my whole fucking day off because usually I get up. I'm a two shower day kind of guy.
But I just today I don't know my I'm off on this Monday. I didn't get a workout in. I ate like shit today.
Yeah, you ate like a buttery thick chocolate croissant for breakfast.
Oh my God. I feel like a garbage can today.
Anyways, I'm going to kick it into gear tomorrow. But this, it's a rare.
occurrence for me. If I don't get a shower in, I'm like basically throw that whole day in the
trash. I just did an Instagram post about how I haven't washed my hair in a week.
I don't mind. I don't need to wash my hair. I need to wash my body. I need to wash up.
But if I don't, I'm telling you, if I don't get a shower in first thing, like that's my, you know,
that's my thing that starts my day. That's my reset. You got to scrub your penis and your
ball. Yeah, everything. If I, if I don't get that shower in, I'm basically, I'm telling you,
my day is trash. All right. Well, don't be trying to hug me tonight. No, I'm going to jump in the
shower after this. Another late night podcast introduction. Here we are. Michael just pulled me out of bed.
I was actually up against my silk pillowcase eating my locks and salmon crackers in bed,
working on my blog, and you just said, got a podcast. So here we are. I like doing a fresh intro though
for each week instead of just batching the intros. Well, we had lunch with your dad this week.
We had lunch with my dad. Number one fan, Brad. Shout out. I know you're listening.
Yeah, it's so cute. Yeah, yeah, it's great. My dad's restaurant's coming soon. I'll say shout out. It's
be next to juicers on Highway 101, and it is going to be some bomb-ass food and drinks.
Now that we have a worldwide audience, you have to kind of give some context of what juices
is, not the local juicers.
That's true.
Okay, guys.
In Salana Beach in San Diego, California.
Thanks, Michael.
Yeah, well, I want to give some context.
Some people are like, what the fuck is juicers?
You can check that box off.
But Brad was saying that he likes how we do the live, you know, the night before.
Because some of these interviews that we do are the majority of them now just because we're
batching because we get busy.
are not, you know, that we didn't do this interview yesterday. We did it last week. And actually,
we did two interviews last week. And so, you know, the intros that we put in are always fresh and new.
See, I'm telling you. No shower. No shower. I'm all fucked up. And if you guys don't know what batching is,
you can Google the skinny confidential batching. And I did a whole post on why we batch. So we've been in
LA a lot. We actually spoke at a law school on Friday, which is just so ironic on so many different levels.
I don't even know what to say.
I opened it up.
I said, you know, when a businessman speaks in front of a panel of lawyers,
you believe the worst has happened.
But luckily, we were speaking on all good things.
Don't worry, we weren't giving law advice.
We were talking on marketing and influencer marketing and podcasting and digital space.
We talked a little bit of contracts and stuff, but more how it pertains to businesses.
So thanks to Loyola Law School for having us.
Yeah, that was fun.
That was a plot twist for us.
Never thought I'd be speaking out of law school.
Okay, so let's talk about our new sponsor ritual.
Okay, so earlier I said I've committed to taking a multivitamin.
I've been trying this out quietly for the past month, and I have to tell you guys,
I am very much about it.
Here's why I like it.
It's this vitamin that's all in one.
So think about all the essential vitamins that women need, like vitamin K2, vitamin D3.
You know I love this one and need this one.
B12, one of my favorites, boron, iron, vitamin E.
magnesium, folate, and omega-3. It's basically all of those in one pill. Okay, so we'll talk about the
importance of omega-3 within this episode a lot, and even Kristen shares her loyalty to it,
but let me give you some background on the multivitamin situation. I want you guys to know exactly
what's in it because that's what really sold me on ritual. So it's vegan, sugar-free, non-GMO,
gluten-free, and allergen-free. It's made in the U.S. without synthetic filters or colorance.
There's these little beads. It's kind of like this formation that keeps the dry ingredients separate
from the oils within the capsule. So you only have to take one pill. It's mint scented.
And this is really cool. So the mint scent is in an in-bottle tab enriched with pure peppermint oil.
I feel like this is such a good idea. I'm obsessed with the minty smell of it and it also has
this taste, there's no chucky vitamin BS. It's just super mintish. When you open it, when you taste it,
everything. I like to take one in the morning and one at night. And I actually, to keep it efficient,
keep ritual by my tongue cleaner to just streamline the whole thing. So I wake up, I clean my tongue,
I take a ritual. And then at night, I go to bed. I actually clean my tongue at night now lately,
too, Michael. I'm all about it. I'll clean the tongue whenever you can. Let's keep the hints coming since you haven't
taking a shower today. I did clean my tongue the day though. I do that without fail now because I can't
stand those yellow tongues. Well, I've pushed ritual towards Michael's tongue cleaner, so hopefully he
gets the hint today. You can visit their website and you'll learn everything from why each ingredient
is beneficial to even where it's sourced. So I actually went on their site. I pulled out my
notepad. I did my research. I checked out everything. It's a super easy site and it's really easy to
read. It explains every single detail down to the ingredients, the research, the wash, and
the what the brand is about, kind of everything. So what I like about ritual the best, though,
is it's really, really easy. There's nothing crazy here. It's straight to the point. It's
subscription-based. It's $30 a month and delivered straight to your door. And I thought this fact was
fun. If you buy an omega-3 at the store, it's going to cost almost as much as the bottle. So instead
of just buying the omega-3 and having all these vitamins everywhere, you get nine essential
vitamins in one shebang, one pill. It fills in the gaps within your diet, and again, it comes with
the best source ingredients. So also, you should know that everything is backed by science.
Sometimes stuff can get sort of sketchy online, but this has completely proved itself to have
traceability and the ingredients that work best in the body. If you're ready to invest in your health,
do what I did and go to ritual.com slash skinny. Consider it your lifelong health 401k. Why put anything
but clean ingredients, all backed by real science in your body. Go to ritual.com slash skinny.
So I want to jump straight into the him and her tip of the week. And my tip this week,
I hope it will lead people to the right path. I don't know if it will, but it's stuff and something
to think about. So one of the topics that came up when we were speaking at Loyal Law School was
the internet space, and particularly the influencer slash blogger slash YouTube space being saturated.
and people are asking, okay, well, I'm trying to advertise online or I'm trying to get my brand out there online, but the space is so saturated.
There's so many people doing it, it's not so easy.
And I want to point out that in everything where anyone's having any success, there's always going to be saturation.
This happens in real estate.
This happens selling online.
This happens in sports.
This happens in everything, right?
Like if something's going well for somebody, you better believe that it's going to get sat.
But the point is, is saturation.
is not a bad thing. It's a bad thing if you can't time and strategize the right way. So here's my tip.
When you're looking at a space and you're saying, oh my God, that's so saturated and you know that all
these strategies that these people are taking that are common and everybody else is using them,
why just because so many people are doing it? Do you feel that, and when I say you, I mean all of us,
feel the need to jump in and do the same strategy. Like if everybody's doing it, there has to be somebody
that's going to lose, right? There can't be a million bloggers that all stand out. There can't be
a million entrepreneurs in the same business that all stand out. Like it's simple supply and demand.
So I tend to try to think of things like this when I'm looking at businesses or looking at
content or looking at brands is, okay, even if the space is overpopulated or, as we'll say,
oversaturated, there's still opportunities. And one of my favorite examples is something that
Lauren actually pointed out to me about Kanye West recently, which I talked about in the speech.
No, listen, I'm giving you credit, but I think it's absolutely genius. So there's within, during
fashion week, as many of you know, or, you know, fashion month, whatever it's called, all these people do
the typical runway show and all the models show up and do the walks and all the photographers are
there and it gets all this press and, you know, each, you know, each fashion house has this event and you get
all these people to do the typical like runway show. What Kanye did this year, and I'm sure many of
you're aware, was he paid people like Paris Hilton, his wife, I'm sure he didn't have to pay his wife,
and a lot of other celebrities to dress up like his wife Kim wearing his Yeezy collection and walk around
in public because he knew that the paparazzi would follow these people and take pictures.
So he knew fashion week was a big thing. He knew it was saturated. He knew he needed to have a presence,
but he didn't want to do the same strategy that everybody else has done year after year.
So he thought outside the box in a completely saturated space and came up with a completely new
strategy, which was to get eyes on his brand without actually having to do a typical fashion show.
And so when I think, to dumb it down, my tip this week is even though a space can be saturated,
that doesn't mean all the strategies have actually been exploited or taken.
There's opportunities within these industries to exploit new strategies if you're willing to look for them.
But if you're somebody that's, you know, say you're an influencer and you're jumping in the
blogging space or you're a YouTuber and you're going to the YouTube space and you're taking the same
strategies as every other person that's had success, that's an uphill battle and that's where you're
going to struggle. So my tip this week is if you're looking at a saturated space, look at new strategies
that you can take within that space. Yeah, I think it's really important to focus on your own strategy
and not always constantly be looking at what everyone else is doing. I actually try not to even scroll
through my Instagram feed. I put it away. I focus on my own shit, my own social media, my own email,
and I find that that really, really helps me be the most creative I can be. Her tip. Okay, this is a super,
super big her tip. So I have a girlfriend named Julia. She is the blogger behind Gal Meets Glam,
and her and her husband Thomas just launched the cutest dress collection. It's like all these pretty
feminine, perfect dresses that kind of have like a vintagey feel. She actually sent me a pink one.
The one she sent me I picked, it's called the Ellie. And I'll tell you more about it. But if you don't know
her blog, it's so cute and feminine and girly. Again, it's called Galmeets Glam. So the dresses are
on Nordstroms. They're also on the Galmeets Glam collection site. So I just think it's really important
to support other women in my space. And I've watched.
Julia really, really hustle and work her ass off to launch her own product. I think she's had
her blog for like eight years, which is super crazy. It's pink and girly and cute. I'm sure a lot of
you guys know it. But to watch her and her husband work their asses off to launch this collection
and make their dream a reality has been super inspiring for me, especially me and Michael.
Yeah, and I felt compelled to send them both a message because I just know how much work it takes
to build something like that.
And my own experience is building business.
They have a huge battle that I'm sure they're going to be successful in ahead.
But it's definitely no easy undertaking to launch your own brand.
Yeah, it's not a joke.
And I like how they're doing something new in the space to be an influencer and to launch their
own product.
I think she made all the dresses from scratch, which is crazy.
And the dresses are stuff that you can wear to a special occasion.
You can wear it to an adventure.
You can just wear it to go bike riding.
I would totally go bike riding in this dress.
It's like perfect for that.
I'm into the adventure dress.
An adventure, okay.
What does that mean for you, honey?
Who knows?
Anyway, you guys have to check out her timeless and romantic dresses.
They're on her site, like I said.
I picked the Ellie.
So let me just describe it for you.
So it's very TSC.
It's a rose color and it's kind of like this crape, fit, and flare.
it reminds me of kind of the 50s but with a modern touch and the color just fits perfect on my
Instagram feed which you know I love and it has these like pretty puffy sleeves I just feel like I
could wear it to work but I could also wear it for like a Sunday brunch with rosé and prosciutto
and melon anyway check Julia out support her she is so cool her husband is cool and I respect
what they've started anyways this isn't a paid ad this is just something that I
was super inspired by and I know that you guys will really, really like the dresses.
They're very much our taste. So go ahead over and check out her line.
Okay, guys, as most of you know, we love Thrive Market, not only because they support this show,
but because they're just a really great service and brand. They're awesome. So I was in the office
today shooting the shit with my team and talking about how I never go to the grocery store anymore.
For those of you that have listened to this podcast for a while, you know this. I can't stand the
grocery store for some reason. I think I have childhood trauma from when I was a kid.
You know, like when you get stuck shopping with your parents at the grocery store.
If any of you had this, I think, sorry, I'm getting sidetracked here.
So anyways, Thrive Market is basically your online one-stop shop for all things.
Grocery, household goods, wellness products, supplements, pet supplies, baby stuff.
I'm working on that in my end.
Trying to slip one past the goal post, Lauren.
Come on, Michael.
And more.
They just, you know, they just added a seafood and meat section, which I'm pumped on.
I'm getting ready to try that.
Lauren and I love Thrive because they do a ton of sourcing before they offer the products.
They find the best of the best.
You know, the grocery store can get overwhelming because you don't know which jam is good for you
and which one is going to kill you.
You know, you get all these things these days that eat the wrong thing, Lauren, and you're just
going to die.
So with Thrive, you can rest assured that it won't kill you, right?
It's the best stuff.
And it's been sustainably sourced.
So everything is 25 to 50% below retail because they are selling directly to you and
they don't have any retailer markups.
They also have a Thrive Market brand, which is super smart.
After speaking with their marketing director and getting the lowdown,
I'm super pumped on this section on their site because they've really developed a lot
of the great products that a lot of these brands are currently selling in the grocery store,
but because it's a Thrive brand, they're able to sell them cheaper and source them more
sustainably and build them to the highest standards and create them to the highest standards.
So I'm pumped to introduce you guys that because Thribe.
brand is awesome. Not the Thrive site, which is also awesome, but the Thrive brand. You can check it out.
So, listen, if you haven't tried Thrive yet, you should. They are going to continue to support this show.
We wouldn't let them support this show week after week if we didn't really believe in the brand and the
value they are bringing. There's no way I would continuously talk about something that I didn't really
believe in, either with Lauren. So give them a try. All of our listeners will receive $60 in free groceries
and free shipping. What do you have to lose there? By going to Thrivemarket.com,
Remember, guys, it's a link, not a code. Again, that's thrivemarket.com slash skinny. Enjoy.
Kristen Cavalery. So I feel like a lot of you guys already know Kristen. I could tell by the Instagram I posted with her. But if you don't know her, she is a mom of three, which is crazy because her body is insane. So she's written two books. One is called balancing in heels. And her latest book is called True Roots. It's a cookbook. She also has a husband who's an NFL player.
three kids, like I said. She has a chic shoe line, and she also has a jewelry and home line,
which is super exciting. She does all this while wearing heels, of course. You also may recognize
Kristen from the platform Laguna Beach and the Hills. You guys, you know you watched Laguna Beach
and the Hills. Stephen. Anyway, she's a prime example of a woman who's created a strategic future,
and I'm really inspired by her, so I'm super excited to welcome.
Welcome, Kristen Cavalary to the Skinny Confidential, him and her podcast.
This is the skinny confidential, him and her.
Okay, Kristen, for the few people who are unfamiliar with you in your history, at this point in your life, how would you introduce yourself to our audience?
Oh, God.
It's evolved, I'd say.
Okay, well, I would say I'm Kristen Cavalry.
Currently, I'm promoting my book True Roots.
I'm a New York Times bestselling author, and I am the founder of a lifestyle brand called
Uncommon James. I'm also the mother, a mother to three babies. Well, I guess they're not babies
anymore. And the wife to an ex-football player. How do you have three kids and look the way you
look? Like, give us some secrets. God. Well, I true, this cookbook true roots truly is how I eat
on a daily basis. So it is gluten-free. It's refined sugar-free. It's limited dairy. And that's how we
eat at home. When I'm cooking, that's how I'm cooking. Then, of course, we go out to eat,
we travel, you know, and we eat whatever we want. I don't think twice about if I'm eating GMOs or
whatever it may be, and that's sort of how I stay sane. And then it's, I want to get back on track.
So I sort of look at it like I eat healthy 80% of the time, and then the other 20% I indulge,
I enjoy it, and I have a good time. And then I work out. And I think, honestly, it's about consistency.
So I try to work out four to five times a week, even if it means I'm waking up at 5.30 in the
morning. 5.30 in the morning. That's the all of a sudden become my new normal. And I'm like, I just said
to my husband last night. I was like, when did I become the girl that's up at 5 a.m. going to bed at 9?
I'm like, that was never me. Oh, my God. I tried to wake Lauren up at 5 a.m. I would lose a hand.
I found to wake me up like a cat or yeah. It's not a good situation. Yeah, no, I get it.
So three kids, what's a day in the life like with three children? So typically, well, lately, I've been
waking up at 530. I'll work out. I just work out in my basement. So it's not.
I have to get in my car and go anywhere, which makes it a lot easier.
And then I love when I'm done with my workout before the kids wake up so I can get breakfast
going and start lunches and all that stuff.
Then they'll slowly start to trickle downstairs.
And we have breakfast and that's getting the boys off to school.
And then I've been filming a lot.
So for my new show, which is premiering on E. June 3rd.
That's, you know, my little spiel.
And then so I've been filming four days a week and I go into my office, which is attached
to my store. I just launched my first brick and mortar in Nashville. And so it's an office in a store and one.
And we film, we get real work done. And then I'm always home by five for dinner every night. We eat
dinner together as a family. And I can always count on those couple of hours where I don't have my
phone. I have no distractions. And I'm just with my family. And then my kids are in bed by 715.
I'm usually fucking exhausted. And I want to get in bed and be asleep by 9. So what's on your table
from your book a lot? Like what's something someone could make at home maybe even? I mean,
easy lunch is just chicken salad.
I have three different chicken salad recipes.
I have a buffalo, an avocado chicken salad, and a smoked chicken salad.
Those are just easy weekend meals.
I'll even make them the night before, and then we'll put them on lettuce cups or put
them on a sandwich or whatever.
I have a duck recipe.
Duck is my favorite meat with a caramelized blackberry glaze, which is really good.
Oh my God, that sounds so good, and I'm such a bad cook.
No, you can make all this stuff, trust me.
Really?
Take some notes.
Yeah, everything.
The muffins were like, that was like, that was like,
borderline for me.
Really?
No.
No, but I'm not the best cook.
Well, I'm basically starving to death.
I'm not a chef.
Poor thing.
We got to get you this cookbook.
I do other things.
There you go.
She makes up for in other areas.
But the other day, she was like, she got mad at me because I went and ate some food outside
of the house.
I just had takeout.
And she's like, what the hell I cooked dinner?
I'm like, what the one time this year?
I'm like, how am I supposed to predict the one day of the 365 days?
You're just supposed to know.
You're supposed to be a mind reader.
Okay.
So you kind of touched on reality TV.
how do you think reality TV has evolved?
What's kind of the same?
What's different?
Well, same age, right?
Like, similar.
I'm 31.
Yeah, same age.
So you were doing this back in high school.
I was in diapers.
So crazy.
Yeah, I was 17.
I was just talking to our younger sister.
I said the first time I got an iPhone was like my sophomore year of college.
Oh, wow.
That was...
I don't even...
I think I still had a sidekick at that point.
Yeah.
So I was saying it's early.
But these kids have grown up with it.
And I'm thinking, you know, when you guys were doing the TV show, we didn't have any
social media. We didn't have smartphones. Thank God.
So how has it changed now?
Saved my life. No social media.
I would have been in a lot more
trouble. All of us can look a little more dignified.
I feel bad for these kids now.
Well, I think the world has changed, you know, and that just goes back to
your point. Not only has reality TV changed, but it's just a completely different world.
I mean, I wholeheartedly stand by. If I had Instagram
when I was 18, it would have been really bad. Nothing good would have come out of
that. But I think from a TV
perspective, you know, Laguna Beach sort of was one of the first reality shows at that time. So even
when we were filming it, we didn't really know what we were filming or what it would turn into.
We're now, I feel like these kids or, you know, whatever, when they go on a reality show,
it's like, okay, they just want to, you know, be loud and have this big personality because
they're just trying to like get their 15 minutes. We're like, that wasn't our goal. We were just
living our lives and, you know, we got put in certain situations that would maybe piss us off or, you
know, ruffle our feathers or whatever. But for the most part, we weren't there to just be famous or
just to, you know, be recognized or have people talking about us and be getting headlines. Like,
now everything is so, or followers. Well, or right, or followers. Exactly. So I don't know. It's just
a different time. And I feel like reality shows, they're just not what they used to be. They're,
it's, everything is sort of how can I push the boundaries more and more where I don't want to do that
on my new show. Like, I kind of want to bring it back to a really solid group of people and just
the normal drama that everybody faces on a daily basis. So for me now with my new show, it's more
about like the drama in my workplace and my 24 year old employees rather than, you know,
my love triangle or whatever it was. You're kind of like the Lisa Vanderpumpf of the show, I feel like.
Yeah. Is that kind of how it's going to be? Like, what can we expect? Yes and no. I'm,
I'm way more involved in the sense that Uncommon James is not
even a year old yet.
And so this truly is my fourth child,
so I'm very, very hands-on.
I'm opening my first store.
And, you know, all of my,
it's a very small company still.
I only have employees enough to fit on both hands.
And so it's different in the sense that Lisa's really well established.
Sir is like her millionth restaurant,
and she's not there every single day.
So it's just a very different dynamic.
And it's harder for me,
I think, too, finding that balance of friendship,
but employee because I'm closer to these girls' age.
So it's a really tough line for me to like be their buddy, but also I'm still your boss and you still have to get your job done.
How do you balance that? I mean, I feel like that's hard. It's hard for me. My assistant is my little sister. It's
Yeah. It's difficult to like know when to be the boss and know when to be their friend. That's my biggest
challenge that I face with it because I do want to be cool and like hang out with these guys,
but they still have to look at me as as their boss like this is still their job when I need them to get their
job done at the end of the day. So it's tough. You know what it is is I have some business.
and a lot of them have a lot of my friends from childhood that work with them.
You know, I've had really good experiences with that and also really bad.
Right.
You know, I had to actually, sorry Miles, but I had to fire her younger brother.
Oh, see, that's so tricky.
It's tricky.
It's so awkward.
It's awkward.
But listen, we're great.
Our family dinners now.
No, we're great now and it's actually good.
He's doing better things now.
And pursuing a career he likes better.
But I think it's all about having that conversation up front.
So, hey, we're great friends.
But when it's time to work, it's time to work.
Right.
You know, as long as everybody's on the same page, it's, it's, it's,
It's easy.
But if they're not.
Yeah, it's really tough.
It boils down to similar work ethics ultimately is what it is.
Okay, so I want to talk about haters because I feel like it's with social media.
It's crazy.
So you're well aware that you're in the public eye.
It can be brutal.
People are mean.
How do you sort of deal with that and kind of block it out?
It seems like you put your phone on airplane mode and kind of just stay in your own lane.
I have found not reading Instagram comments is the most freeing thing on the planet.
That's a good idea. I don't read them. I used to and I used to get pissed off about the dumbest shit.
Not even if someone's being mean, it's like fine. I know that I've been dealing with that since I was 17. I know people are going to be mean.
But it's more like people speaking from a place where they actually have no idea what they're talking about, but they think that they do. And that was what pissed me off.
Even as something as small as like, I don't know what brand of clothing I'm wearing. It's like, no, it's actually not what it is.
So it's like, you actually don't know what you're talking about. And then stuff obviously much bigger than that. But that's the part that would just drive.
me crazy. So I have just found that I just can't I just can't read it. I actually turned my Instagram
comments off completely for a while. I think that's a really good idea not to look at the comments.
I've gotten caught up in things where I'm like, okay, this is like not productive at all.
Yeah. And because too also no matter what you do, you can't please everybody. No matter what you
do. So right now we're pissing somebody off. Of course. Listen, nowadays, you're pissing somebody off for doing
nothing. So yeah, you just, you have to live your life for you and not for what somebody else
thinks. That's great advice. Okay. One of my favorite subjects is morning routines. Okay. I just like,
I love to know what successful people do for their morning routines. So can you walk us through like a
full morning with you from the second you wake up to kind of the end of it? Like I even want to know
what kind of smoothie you're having, like what your breakfast is, everything. Okay. So my alarm wakes me up
most mornings lately. I mean, my, my, I don't have.
one morning that's all or my mornings are never always the same but my alarm typically wakes me up I will
look at my phone it's usually on sailor's baby monitor have it on my phone and then I'll see me my text
messages I'll go to my emails really quickly I'll check Shopify which is my online store I like it
and then not every morning but sometimes I will go to Instagram but that has I've tried to make that
not a routine for me first thing in the morning and then I go I brush my teeth I throw on my workout
clothes. I'm either going to go workout and then like I said come up make breakfast and so we have
everything from like an oatmeal bake. We do eggs some morning. Sometimes I'll do a smoothie. It just honestly
kind of depends. It's all in your book. All these things? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I want to know what this
oatmeal bake is. It's really good. That is in my book. Yeah. That sounds so good. And a lot of times I'll make
stuff the night before if it's something like even the oatmeal bake. You can make that the night before and
And then all you have to do is warm it up.
You're like a planner.
Yeah.
Oh, my God.
With everything in life.
That's how I get shit done.
Otherwise, I'd be a mess.
I have to write everything down.
Like, if I don't write it down, I'm not going to remember it.
Okay.
Supplements.
Do you take any supplements?
Yes.
Okay.
I do a probiotic fish oil.
And my doctor has told me you want to make sure you're getting more EPA than DHA.
Oh, what's that mean?
This is something now.
So when you look at your fish oil, look at the, you know, the nutritional information.
and you just want to make sure you have more,
it'll say it on there.
EPA, you know, 260 milligrams or whatever.
DHA, 160.
You just want to make sure you're getting more EPA than DHA
because EPA helps with inflammation.
Okay.
Are you going to remember that for me?
EPA.
Okay.
I do CO-Q-10.
Okay.
Magnesium.
Vitamin D in the winter.
Okay.
What am I?
B vitamin.
And then if I had a couple cocktails, I'll do milk thistle.
That's a good one.
Milk this was good for the liver, right?
Yeah.
And do you have this already?
to go and all planned out, like in front of you?
No, I mean, like, they're in my pantry,
like in their own little, you know.
And you just go, go, go, go, go.
Yeah.
Any protein powder?
Sometimes, I think I OD'd on protein powder.
I was working out with this trainer in Chicago,
and after every single workout,
he would have me do this, like, massive protein shake,
and I just, it was too much.
And I didn't gain any muscle,
so it wasn't even doing anything for me.
And what about your workout?
I only lift weights.
I haven't done cardio in years.
Okay.
And I just work out by myself.
I did work out with the trainer for like two years in Chicago.
And his biggest thing was having me do pull-ups.
It's like girls don't really do pull-ups.
And so I couldn't do any when I started with him.
And now I can do four.
And it's not a lot, but I'm proud of it.
But like you have to like really hang and then pull yourself back up.
It's tough.
I got to try that.
I don't think I can do one.
And if you haven't done them, your abs will be sore too.
If you just do like sit-ups, pull-ups, crunches,
push-ups, like the prison workouts here.
The basics.
You really don't need all that fancy stuff.
stuff. Okay. So you're so busy. You're such a hustler. How do you relax? Is there something that you do to
sort of disconnect and turn it all off? Um, no. Well, to be completely honest, so I've been going so hard
lately. I'm sort of burnt out. I am in LA. I have a photo shoot tomorrow, but I specifically came
early this morning so that I could go to my little Korean spa that I love so much to just kind of de-stress.
I'm going to get a scrub. I'm going to get a massage. And I'm going to hopefully just fall asleep and chill the
fuck out for a few minutes. Okay, so you're a businesswoman, an author, an entrepreneur, a chef,
a mom. What is your advice for moms who want to sort of have it all? I need to take notes because
he's ready to pop some babies out. He's ready to go. I'm to anchor baby here. Oh, that's exciting.
Well, first of all, I'm not a chef. I'm just a mom who likes to cook. I would never in a million
years be like, yeah, I'm a chef. I don't know. I mean, I've had really great training or, you know,
cooking lessons by great, great chefs, but I am by no means a chef. I'm just a mom who likes to cook.
just to kind of clarify that um but uh so how do you do it all i think you have to realize you can't do
it all um or you can't do everything perfectly i think i'm just at a place right now where i'm sort
of maxed out in the work department and there's just a lot happening you know it's like the new show
the book tour the you know uncommon james is just growing and we're expanding and everything so
obviously the book tour is almost done so then you know my plate will be i'll have a little bit more
room on there. But when I had kids, I just decided to only do the things that I really loved and that
were truly going to fulfill me as a person. And so while all of those things do, it is just a lot
right at the same time. So I'm kind of looking forward. We just wrapped the show last week.
The cookbook tour is almost done. So I'm kind of looking forward to having a few months of just
like chilling out. Okay. So I want to know if there's someone at home that looks up to you, because
I'm sure there's lots of girls listening that absolutely love you and follow you. What's something that
they can add to their routine.
It could be like a smoothie or a resource, something that has really helped you that you think
that will make a difference in their life.
Oh, God.
I mean, that's a really great question.
Well, I mean, I guess I really do look at food as medicine.
And so with that in mind, I would say, don't look at calories.
Don't look at fat.
Don't even look at sugar.
Just read the ingredients.
and then just try to eat real food.
I mean, I just, I feel the best I ever have.
My husband is a type one diabetic, and since he's adopted this lifestyle, he's gotten
off of blood pressure medication.
He looks and feels the best he ever has.
I mean, so I've truly seen firsthand what a good diet can really do for you.
So I would say that I would just start reading ingredient labels.
That's the biggest thing for me.
What's like something that they could snack on?
Like, I know, I've seen that you like epic bars.
Do you still like those?
Yeah, I do.
I mean, I'll do homemade beef turkey too.
Okay.
But, God, I'm trying to think.
Like, what's it in your plane bag when you go on a plane?
What's a snack?
Even this morning, I brought homemade bars.
I have a bunch of, all these recipes are in my cookbook.
But I just try to make stuff at home.
But yes, if I can't, epic bars are great.
Laura bars I love.
I'm trying to think what else.
I mean, I don't.
I wish I had better answers for you.
I can't even think of anything right now.
You know, hummus and veggies.
I do homemade ranch dressing with a lot of stuff.
fruit. I love
popcorn. We always have
popcorn muffins because it's like my
kids too, but I'll eat all that stuff.
And her green muffins are on the skinny confidential
you guys. They're so good.
Those muffins are, I mean, I added dark chocolate chips to them
and oh my God. So did you
use spelt flour or oat flour?
I used oat flour. Should I use
spelt? No, no, no. In my first book,
I have spelt flour, but I only use oat flour
now because it's gluten-free. I think I saw
somewhere that you wrote that. I don't know where I
I posted on Instagram.
So good.
I'm glad you saw that.
Okay.
So I really want to know how social media has changed the landscape of your business because
that's like a completely different thing from when you were on Lugina Beach.
If it wasn't for social media, I would probably not have a lifestyle brand.
I haven't paid $1 an ad sales just because everything is through social media.
So I'm incredibly thankful for it because it's such a great platform.
It's direct to the consumer.
And you can really control your image.
And so I'm, you know, I'm very thankful for it in that sense.
So what's one piece in your jewelry line that every girl needs?
I personally really like the cuff.
I think you're wearing it.
I was going to say the cuff, killer queen.
Yeah, I really like the cuff, you guys.
Yeah, it's like it's for the middle of your ear.
You don't need to have a piercing, which is cool.
So, you know, I actually just got my second hole a year ago.
I was like, well, I own a jewelry line.
I should probably be able to wear more than one earring.
And I'm scared to get any more than that.
So it's a nice way to look like you have more piercing.
but you don't actually have to go through with the commitment.
What is your kind of taking a twist here?
What's your favorite failure?
Oh, wow.
God, my favorite failure.
I mean, I've had quite a few failures.
Like with Uncommon James specifically or just anything in general.
It could be anything.
You know what I did?
I did.
They're so awful.
This like infomercial for secret bangs.
And there was like these clip-in bangs.
That's amazing.
So, wait, you need to post that on Instagram.
People will love it as a TBT.
No.
Like, they were so bad that the company was like, well, we're probably not going to move forward
with this.
People were like, this is the ugliest should I've ever seen.
But we were like, because you know those like clip and extensions, like the colored extensions
and stuff.
Everyone in my camp was like, this could be huge.
Oh my God.
I was like, I don't know.
They just would look awful, but okay.
And it was just horrible.
But for me, for me, things like that, it just goes back to me just trusting my gut and
being like, no, you know what? If I'm questioning something like that, I just probably shouldn't do it.
So it's just validating. I like that. So I kind of want to switch gears here. And if this is out of bounds,
let me know. But I was thinking about it. As we get older, you know, and as we're growing up,
we are equipped with a lot of things. Like, you can navigate life. You can look to your mother for
advice on parenting. But nobody ever sets us up for loss. You've recently experienced a loss extremely
close to you. Yeah. What would you tell people who are going through the grieving process? Like,
how do you approach that process? Because we recently started talking about it. Yeah.
Through this podcast and blogging, I'm interested to learn more because I'm still not so comfortable
talking about and approaching it. Yeah. I mean, I think, you know, before you experienced loss like
that in your life, you know, you hear about someone dying and you're like, oh, you know,
thinking of you or like, oh, like, but it just doesn't really resonate with you. Now when I have
someone in my life who loses someone, I just, oh, it just, it just.
weighs so heavily on me because I really feel for them. It's a completely different, I just look at it
so differently now than I did, you know, over two years ago. And I don't know. It's a tough thing.
And it comes in waves and I, losing my brother has made me way more spiritual now and way more in tune
with what I believe and just what life is about. And it's just, it's made me question everything.
What's something that you could, a resource, like something you could recommend. I actually
lost my mom and I talked about it on the skinny confidential. What's a resource that you've looked to
that's helped with your spirituality? I've seen a lot of mediums or like not psych. I don't think
psychic is the right word. Well, like I even did Tyler Henry on E and I've seen a few other people
like him and they just say stuff that is so so accurate and just no one would know unless they could
talk to my brother in some sort of way.
And like shit that like it's just beyond.
And do you find that that helps?
I don't want to say bring closure.
That's the wrong word.
Yeah.
I find a lot of peace in it.
Okay.
I really do.
And between my mom,
my dad and I,
especially right after Mike,
my brother died,
we had so many signs from him
that I really do think are just so cool.
I really do.
And so,
you know,
I think how I've sort of wrapped my head around the whole thing
and how I've come to peace with it
is knowing that
this isn't the end. I will see him again. I wholeheartedly believe in reincarnation.
And otherwise, what's the point? Like, what the fuck are we doing here if we don't have more opportunities?
I just think with each life we have many life lessons, but then there's like one overall life lesson.
Okay, so I need to see a medium. I've never thought about doing that. There's a really good one here.
Can you give me the contact information? Yeah. Okay, this happened to me when I was 18. So I would love, I can't
I've seen like kind of a psychic. But you have to make sure they're good. Yeah, I don't know.
see one that's awesome it'll totally ruin your experience and the reason I bring this up is I just think as you know we're all getting older and when your kids you don't experience any kind of loss right everything's great and then as you know friends pass I'm sure we've all had friends pass and family and you're just not necessarily equipped to deal with it just kind of comes and bang and like shit like what tools do you have yeah no one can prepare you for it I don't think there are any tools and I think it's different for everybody my mom my poor mom lost her brother when she was my age
She lost her mom the same year she lost my brother or you know her son my brother she's lost her she's experienced a lot of loss in her life. So having her for me was so beneficial and not only because she's literally been through exactly what I went through but because it was her son and it was my brother like it was just I don't know it just it helped me a lot and she brings you closer huh? Yeah it really does and just having someone who really understands what you're going through. I just knew like when I was grieving I didn't want to talk to anybody who didn't understand. I was just like I you know.
it's understandable because you can't relate
I mean I didn't talk to anyone for like eight years
so I completely understand
it's tough losing your mom
it was horrible
and it's just it's something I actually haven't even talked about
on the podcast but on the blog and it's it's
you don't want to talk to anyone that doesn't understand
it almost gives you kind of like a screen
between you and other people a little bit
I felt like I was in a fog yeah it's it's weird
it's a weird experience it really is
well I have to get your mediums
like information I will give it to you a promise
before we go what's a beauty tip a skincare tip my blog is so much about skin and make up anything um
so this kind of goes against everything i believe in but i do use a little low dose of retinae and it's
completely changed my skin i have never done Botox i've never done anything to my face and so
and i mark my words i think i don't think i ever will but um i you know and so because i'll
never inject my face or doing anything crazy like that.
I will use a low dose of retinae and it helps with skin
renewal and I just think I'm just
going to keep doing that. Brand?
Oh, I couldn't even tell you.
It could be any retin. Well, I go to this
facialist Carrie Hayes in Nashville and I just get
she calls them Koji pads. She like custom
makes you these little pads for your face.
Amazing. That's a great tip.
Good. I've certainly got Botox. Maybe I need
to up the pads.
And I don't, I'm not promoting
pharmaceuticals. I actually hate pharmaceuticals
so I even kind of hate saying it.
That's the truth. That's what I do. That's what I use.
I like that tip. All right. So where can everyone find you? Pimp yourself out? Yeah.
Beside book, show. Okay. Well, my show is premiering June 3rd on E. 10-9 Central.
