Starting point is 00:00:00 The following podcast is a dear media production. She's a lifestyle blogger extraordinaire. Fantastic. And he's a serial entrepreneur. A very smart cookie. And now Lauren Everts and Michael Bostic are bringing you along for the ride. Get ready for some major realness. Welcome to the skinny confidential, him and her.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Before we get into this episode with Sam, I want to tell you about my three favorite things. of this past year. Three things that I have been using, loving, and that I will be rebuying. The first thing that is a no-brainer is I am absolutely obsessed with reformer Pilates. I've been doing it for so long and I noticed that it really has helped improve my mobility and my flexibility. I usually like classic Pilates, but lately I've been adding a little bit of hit to it. I started falling in love so much with Pilates because it was so synergistic to weightlifting that I went and got two white, beautiful, gorgeous, aesthetically pleasing reformers to my house. I got one for me and one for Michael or a friend.
Starting point is 00:01:18 And I think I'm going to have a teacher come over and help us get used to them and acclimated and then I'm just going to start using them by myself. And these reformers are absolutely gorgeous. If you are looking to step up your Pilates game, I would highly recommend this brand. I am so, so into this. I took so many pictures because they're so beautiful. Go look at them if you go to your reformer.com. The one that I got that I love is called The Studio. Like I said, I got two. And they're not huge, but they're not small. They're just the right size. And they really, really almost look like an art piece. It's something that you could put in the middle of your house, no problem. I would even put one in my office if I had the room. But if you're looking
Starting point is 00:02:02 to take your posture to the next level, it's changed my posture and it's really made me more flexible and really helped with mobility and just strength in general. And it's such a good workout with the weightlifting. So if you want the best, most beautiful reformer, go check out your reformer.com. The next item that I absolutely love this year, we've discussed this one on the podcast is by Clarence. It's the total eye lift cream is the one I like, okay? I noticed after becoming a mother of three that my under eyes needed some help. And one of the best tips that my facialist gave me is you don't want to wait until you're in your 30s or your 40s or your 50s to start using anti-aging products. Like for me, especially an eye cream,
Starting point is 00:02:51 you want to be able to prevent it, not have to like reverse it or fix it. So, So this specific total eye lift cream was recommended by my facialist. I saw it all over social media. And I tried it and I fell in love with it because it's a four and one eye cream. Not only does it help with the crow's feet. It helps with the 11. That's the one I struggle with between the eyes, the dark circles and the puffiness. So all ice roll, I'll do my facial massage, my skincare, and then I'll take my index finger
Starting point is 00:03:21 and I'll pat it on underneath my eyes. and I just noticed that my eyes have like a plumber, more smoother feel after I use this eye cream. Do not sleep on a good eye cream either. You want one that has really great ingredients and this one has 94% of ingredients that are from a natural origin, which we love. There's also a plant-based retinal alternative in this and it boosts your collagen production. So that's for me what I want underneath my eyes. I wanted something that like firms my skin that has retinal like technical. in it, but also boost collagen at the same time. So this one is efficient. It's an efficient eye cream. It's kind of like a new generation, too, of the best selling nostalgic Claren's eye cream. My mom used Claren's, so this does feel nostalgic, but they really made it to be so effective and like I said, efficient. So what you want to do is you want to warm it up between your eyes if you get it. So warm it up between your fingers and then you pat, pat, pat. Underneath the eye, I like to lift up. And you kind of like think of it as like lymphatic drainage underneath. the eyes and it lifts in 30 seconds. You will see a difference. I got mine at Ulta, but you can get this
Starting point is 00:04:30 eye cream at three different places. It's available at Ulta, Sephora, and at Clarence.com. The final product of this year is by far the face towels, okay? If you are cleansing your face and you are using old crusty towels that have been seeped in detergent or maybe your boyfriend's using them to wash, God knows what, you want to switch it up. So I noticed I was getting hormonal acne on my face, especially around my mouth. The second I switched to disposable towels, it made my skin so much happier. It felt nourished and supported rather than stripped from a body towel. So I wanted to create my own because I found a lot of the face towels on the market had formaldehyde or dye or fragrance in them. So I wanted to create something very custom. So we did a custom cut, which is the scallops
Starting point is 00:05:21 around our face towel by Skinny Confidential. And then we made sure there's no inks, no dyes, no formaldehyde, no fragrance, no plastic, BPA-free. And we just created a really nice, lush, buttery towel. And how I use this is all oil cleanse and then I'll pat it dry with the face towel. And then I will do an exfoliating situation if I have makeup on and then pat it dry with the towel. And my skin loves it.
Starting point is 00:05:47 It loves it so much more than using some random hotel towel or a body towel. If you do have pimples, acne, whiteheads, blackheads, look into the towels that you're using. And you can get these towels on shopskinyconfidential.com. So those are the three products of the year, the best-looking reformer you've ever seen, an eye cream that does all the things you want it to do, and a face towel that will upgrade your skincare routine. On that note, let's get into the episode with Sam Cutler. This is the skinny confidential, him and her. Sam, welcome to the show.
Starting point is 00:06:23 I'm so excited to be here with you, too. We're so excited to have you. I feel like I've wanted to do this show with you for a long time. We've been going back and forth. Yeah, it's been a long time coming. We have so much to talk about. We do. We have lots of points to hit.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Our team was very excited to have you on. I think I told you offline, but we have a lot of tangible takeaways coming from your content. So first, let's get into your health transformation. Yes. Talk about recomping your body, because I think your story's interesting because it's not like you lost a lot of weight, you just sort of transformed your life and recompositioned your body. So what I think is the most interesting thing is that when I was actually trying to get healthier, I focused on losing weight and that never worked. So there's probably so many people
Starting point is 00:07:06 that are listening thinking like, hold on, I need to lose weight. Like that's what I've been heard. It's what I've been told consistently. And I spent like most of my 20s trying to lose weight because I didn't know what to call it. We were just having this conversation. It's like, what do you put a name to it, right? Is it around inflammation? Is it body composition? Is it gut issues? What is the problem? But when we don't know, we instantly say, I need to lose weight. And when we can't pinpoint what's going on. So I ultimately spent most of my 20s feeling like crap if we just wrap it up. And in that process, spent time saying, okay, I need to lose weight, I need to go on this diet and yo-yoing back and forth. Why did you feel like crap? I had severe acne.
Starting point is 00:07:48 So that was one thing. I show a lot of pictures of this online. It was honestly debilitating. There were days I didn't want to leave the house. I had severe inflammation all over my body. My stomach was always bloated. I would put on anything and I didn't feel good. Every outfit, every item that I'd put on. Honestly, I just didn't know what it was. And every time I'd go to a doctor, I'd say, I don't feel good. I also had so many hormonal issues, period issues. every doctor told me I was fine. And I felt dismissed. Like imagine being 20s and just going to a doctor saying, I know something's wrong, but no one will really recognize it. And in that moment, I felt like there was nowhere to be seen. There was nowhere that I was going to be recognized. So I wanted to take matters into my own hands, but I actually had no idea how. Do you think, was there a reason that you were feeling like crap looking back? Were you too much alcohol? Was it not enough sleep? Like, what were the reasons that were, making you feel like this.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Food. Nutrition. I had no understanding of nutrition, and I thought that eating healthy, eating diet foods, and restricting myself. What were the kind of foods you would eat? Low calorie,
Starting point is 00:09:02 sugar-free, you know, all of the things that were free of without an understanding of nutritional value and what the nutrition actually does for your body and how it helps you feel good,
Starting point is 00:09:16 how it heals, how it creates your cognitive, function, how it creates your gut health, which creates everything in your immune system. When I was 25, I was diagnosed with a stomach ulcer, which is like crazy at 25. And that obviously is a link to stress. But lowering our immune system, lowering our gut health, lets the impacts of stress create that. And the ecosystem that was going on inside my body of the combination of stress, the combination of the of the food I was eating, the lack of lifestyle habits to support myself. So sleeping well, lowering things like alcohol and sugar. We could talk about sugar for hours. All of these things
Starting point is 00:10:00 were slowly killing me. Like honestly, I say this online and they're like, what does that mean? Depression, anxiety, fear of leaving the house, like I said, from your skin or different issues. just not being here, not being myself, not being in the moment. What was the epiphany, the thing that you look back on that made the change? Yeah. So backtrack, I was working in a corporate job and I knew something that was off as going to these doctors. I was trying to figure out what was going on. And I started a blog on the side just for fun to start. And what year is this? So we all have, context.
Starting point is 00:10:43 2013. Okay. Yeah. You're an OG. Yeah. Okay. And this was like, hi, I went here. Here's my flat lay.
Starting point is 00:10:49 I talked to this one person. Here's a picture of us those days. And the blog was just like, I don't feel good. How do I kind of put the emphasis back on other people? I would interview different founders and talk to them about their stories. And I ultimately ended up leaving the job that I was at because I was so burnt out. I had made enough money to kind of. of leave and was like, you know, like scratching. I mean, let's talk about it. I was working like
Starting point is 00:11:18 an entry-level job. It was making like $35,000 a year. So it's like, if I can make that, I can do this. And when I left, I said, I'm going to become a health coach because nobody's telling me what's going on in my body. So I'm going to try to figure it out myself. I don't know what that means. I have literally zero idea. But if any of these people want to see that happen, you can come along for the rep. And I'll publicly talk about it because when I went to my friends, they were able to eat what they wanted, go out and drink and have fun and not have these issues. That's what I think's cool about your content is that a lot of people don't show their transformation, whether it's mental or physical until they've done it. I think you kind of brought everyone along, which is different.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Yeah. And we'll talk about mindful after, but every single piece of this journey has been co-created with that community. It has not been, there's been so many pivotal moments where I've been like, oh, this is so not my story anymore. This is so much about these members or this is so much about this person I connected to in my community, but this is the catalyst to getting there. So backtrack. I leave and I start and become a health coach. I share this publicly. And I see it was very small for so long because I wasn't fully vulnerable. I was kind of like, this is what I'm trying to figure out. This is maybe what's going on with my gut health. And then when I took off the mask was when things really started to take off from a brand perspective, just talking about social media in particular,
Starting point is 00:12:51 started to show my skin, started to show what my bloating looked like, started to show the day I was in the hospital because I was rushed for passing out from period cramps. All of these things women started to relate to and said, hey, this, I have a little bit of, this piece in me and I felt so isolated to be able to talk about it and you're doing it so now you make me feel seen. I also don't necessarily think that people need to heal publicly on social media. I think that it's a very vulnerable thing to go through, but I didn't have anywhere to do that. Thank God because I heal in a dark corner by myself. I'm like a dying cat. I go off and hide under the porch and heal myself. It takes a lot of courage to be able to put yourself out there and
Starting point is 00:13:35 show your skin. I have pimples right now. And like, I'm not used to having pimples. That's something I'm not used to. I'm used to having hyperpigmentation, but not pimples. And I told my facialist, I'm like, this is like it's, you feel, you feel, I don't even know the, you don't want to go out. I know what you're saying. It's like a gorophobia. Am I wrong about this? Like a lot of, like, I remember dealing with acne as like a 12, 13, 14, 14 old boy. I think a lot of young guys go through it. It's typically the phase when most of the girls leave us for the older guys. like that period of time. Wait, what are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:14:09 Do women deal with acne later or is it also common to do it at that age? I don't know. So it's actually very common for women to have their worst acne outbursts in their 20s. Because hormones shift so drastically, of course there's puberty, but into your 20s. And women actually continue to get acne longer than men. Yeah, what about after the baby too? That's what I think it is for me right now. Yeah, it's your hormone shift.
Starting point is 00:14:34 But like, so there's a part of it where we have to say, I want to do what's in my power to look my best, feel my best, put my best self forward. But there's a part of it where it's also normal. And someone normalizing that also makes you feel seen. So yes, when you have your period, you're likely to have more bloating, maybe breakouts, right? When you've just gone through a major hormonal shift with having a child, that's, these things are more normal. but the lifestyle factors will either amplify that or make it worse, like make it better or make it worse. So what were the things that you started showcasing in your healing journey that you thought made a really big difference in your bloating and your acne and your ulcers and your period cramps? That I was showing that made a difference.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Yeah. Like was, are we talking like you changed your whole diet? Did you start lifting? Oh, the things that I did. Yeah. Yeah. Hands down diet was like the biggest thing. And nutrition, I think that we still have such a lack of understanding of what nutrition is.
Starting point is 00:15:39 But if we scale it back, it's about eating whole foods and eating one ingredient foods from the earth is going to help 95% of people that are out there trying to figure it out. Do I need to count my macros? Do I need to count calories? Which, by the way, I don't think we should be counting calories at all. But there's a lack of understanding of what are actually whole foods. Like I think I'm eating. chicken, but it's breaded and it's fried, but it's a chicken, right? So it's got to be good for me. And so in my process of figuring that out, switching my nutrition was the biggest piece, for sure, stress, another huge piece as well. What were you stressed about besides obviously like you had issues, but like what was going on in your life that was stressing you out so much? I think there's a difference between like immediate stress in the moment. And so small bursts of stress are necessary
Starting point is 00:16:30 and increases in our cortisol. They happen all day long. and they're part of our circadian rhythm, they have to happen for us to function. Chronic stress is very different. And that can come from so many things outside of what we think of traditionally as stress. It doesn't need to mean that you're working in a high pressure environment. It can also mean that every day you look at yourself in the mirror and you tell yourself, I'm ugly, I'm fat. I don't like who I am.
Starting point is 00:16:56 And that message creates chronic stress. Eating inflammatory foods, processed foods, packaged crap, like we were just talking about, that creates stress on your gut. So what we traditionally think of as stress is not necessarily what we need to understand it as. We need to understand the impacts of chronic stress and how that attacks our body, truly from the inside out and creates inflammation versus these moments of little bits of stress that actually are necessary because we need the cortisol. Like when we're working out, if we're chronically putting that on our body and chronically
Starting point is 00:17:32 stressing ourselves out, that can have a negative impact. But we do need a little bit of stress when we're working out. That's part of it, right? You need your heart rate up. You need to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. That's stressful, but that's good stress. Yep. Yeah. No, we were talking the other day, we were on this walk and we were talking to some friends on the phone and on this show, we get into like a lot of fringe subjects as people would call them. We were talking about, okay, turning the Wi-Fi off when you sleep. And I said, yeah, that's like, could be a good idea. I personally don't worry about that at all because if you take care of the other 80% and you're not chronically inflamed, you're not chronically stressed, and you're doing the big
Starting point is 00:18:04 things, then the lesser stressors like a Wi-Fi at night won't impact. But if you're, if you are chronically stressed and your body's overworked and you're sick and you're unhealthy and you're not eating right, then you have that toxic overload of the other stuff, it might be the thing that sets you over the edge. That's what I think you're talking about. So we always call that like, it's the gravy, right? The inside of the meal has to be what we're talking about. And that's exactly what you said. What are you doing 80% of the time? If you're not moving your if you're not drinking enough water, if you're not eating whole foods, if you're not getting sleep. These are like the basics. Yeah, the Wi-Fi router is not going to save you if you're
Starting point is 00:18:39 doing all those other things. Exactly. Nor is the red light mask, which don't get me wrong, I love a red light mask. But none of these things are going to take you to the place that you want to be if you're not creating the baseline that you want to be at. And that's in your control, which is the cool thing. All these other pieces are devices or products that we're using to, amplify what we're doing, but the baseline is 100% in our control every day. So what do you think besides the baseline things made a big difference, little things? Little habits that added up to success, besides the sleep, besides the water, besides the workout and the food? I mean, this isn't a habit, but it's consistency. Like, it's just doing the same thing over and over.
Starting point is 00:19:26 It's almost boring, isn't it? I mean, I think it's really, sexy now. Boring isn't the right word. It's and mundane isn't the right word. It's just like repetitive. Repetitive. It's like repetitive. It's like lifting weights. I think people want to believe that there's like a magic formula or a magic DLP product or like a magic
Starting point is 00:19:45 thing that people are doing. And I think to your point, it's like the basic boring, consistent things that you just implement in your daily life. Whole foods, better sleep, stress management, moving your body. Like if you can do those consistently 80, 90% of the time.
Starting point is 00:20:02 A lot of the other stuff will take care of itself. It's just it's a hard message because everyone's like, oh, that requires a lot of work and discipline. Consistency is the strongest card you can hold. It is your biggest threat. I also think it's, yes, and it's also consistency in a relationship. It's consistency with yourself. Consistency with your children.
Starting point is 00:20:23 Consistency with work. Consistency across the board, you're right, is your strongest weapon. When you can build consistency, You can play with everything else. I mean, even, you know, like doing what I do at your media, what I tell people or creators that want to do a show like this all the time, is exactly that. It's like, yes, you have to have some talent and you have to have an idea
Starting point is 00:20:45 and you have to be able to, like, you know, do the basic things to create content in any format. But like the secret sauce of this is it's 910 episodes of never missing an episode for 10 years running. Like not taking a hiatus, not taking a break, not like, oh, sorry, we were. sick that week, like 900 something times in a row never stopping. Not all of them home runs, but like just the consistency of showing up every single time. If you do that online as a crater, if you do that in your job, if you do that in your workouts, you do that with your diet, like you will have results. 100%. Absolutely. I have not. And people have different opinions of this right now on social media, but I haven't missed a day posting in probably 450 days. I love that. That's incredible.
Starting point is 00:21:26 When you say posting, do you mean on Instagram, TikTok, or? stories or do you mean all? Instagram on my feed. Good for you. We have a real or a photo that goes up every single day and we have the same outlook for the company. That's great. So it's like the small habits are adding up.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Every single day. And even, you know what that does? Okay, so I actually started this because we put so much emphasis on the performance of the piece of content. And that's in your control, but out of your control, right? There's current events. There's algorithms. There's all this stuff happening.
Starting point is 00:21:55 When you put something in your control as the deciding factor. whether you feel worth, you now take back all of the control. So I was getting down on a video not doing well. And I would then switch this to say, well, if I just post every single day, I have done what I said I'm going to do. I'm building trust. I'm building more confidence in myself and I'm showing up. And now that's my celebration. I did it on the day I didn't want to. No, and I think that's incredible advice. And also it creates a situation where if you're posting once or twice a week and you don't get that result that you're looking for, you get so down. but if you know you're going to do this 365 times,
Starting point is 00:22:33 you 100% already know not all of them are going to be home runs. And so the blow of that one not working out, it doesn't really feel, I mean, listen, we'd like every episode to be incredible, but sometimes they don't land. We're going to try our best. But you're going to keep going and going and going.
Starting point is 00:22:46 You know what I mean? Like, sometimes if you only do the one or two things in the post doesn't work, you get discouraged and quit. And, you know, like you said, showing up every single day, like you just get to take the,
Starting point is 00:22:57 you drive the ship. And I had this post this morning I put up and I was like, I already know this isn't going to be a viral piece of content, but I know that there's people that need to hear what I'm going to say. And instantly in the comments, more content like this, more content like this. What was it? It was talking about, I was going out for a grant for the company. And I was talking through self-limiting beliefs around that grant and just reframing it to be why am I the most worthy person to get this. What will that mean for the company? And then I instantly switched after maybe like 20 seconds into, do you see what I just did? This is how you do that for you. This is how you talk yourself through self-worth in the moments where you're actually doubting yourself. And so I showed the audience kind of live, not live, but like in this rant to my mirror, ultimately, that we edited it up, how to actually do that in real time. And then it ended with me kind of saying like, hey, guys, this is what you can do. And this is the work that you can do to picture
Starting point is 00:23:58 yourself as your future self, et cetera. So many people loved that and wanted to hear it. Is it going to be a viral post? No. But is it going to be a value ad post? Yes. And you have to have both. You have to have both as a brand and a creator. What content resonates the most for you? That goes viral like on social? Could be viral. Anything. Or that engages someone in that kind of way? With my community or personally? Either. So on social media right now, I've been really trying to take my community through building this company because they have been a part of every step of the way while we've been building mindful. And so the content that's hitting right now is just organic, raw, weird, random moments.
Starting point is 00:24:41 I flew to Dubai three weeks ago with like very few days notice for this program that I was doing. And obviously, didn't talk about it on Instagram. I just randomly jumped on a flight, woke up and I was in Dubai. and the first piece of content that I dropped was a video of myself. You don't see, I'm actually going to make you guys do this with me after. You don't see what you're looking at. You're just kind of looking at your face like, oh my gosh, something crazy is happening. And then I flip it back and obviously like the skyline of Dubai is behind me, etc.
Starting point is 00:25:10 Those, that content has a million views. A million views. Why? Because there's a surprise factor. There's me saying, holy crap, look where I am. I cannot believe that I'm doing this and you guys are doing this with me. The audience is with you. your community's with you, forget audience, your community is with you, and they feel like
Starting point is 00:25:29 they were a part of getting you there, and they had that same surprise element with you. Oh. So it's, it just is kind of different, I feel like it ebbs and flows. It ebbs and flows, yes, but then you're going to get before and afters that are going to hit. People are going to love it. People love before and afters. They love it. Your video, you know, I have to ask you this. What I ate on my wedding day went viral. Why? Like, can you explain it to me? Still beats me. I mean, no, I understand, like, I understand why it's a cool piece of content. I don't know if cool is the word the audience wants to use, but why did it go viral from your perspective? So at the time, this is before mindful, at the time I was sharing a lot
Starting point is 00:26:06 of what I eat in a day, and I obviously had my content team at my wedding and I said, we are going to be filming what I eat on my wedding day. Because my outlook on what I eat in a days is not to show perfect days. It's to show the days where it's really hard. The days when you're getting on a flight last minute, the days when you're at your wedding, not just a Tuesday when you're eating perfectly. Right. So what I wanted to show was these weird moments where you're probably, most brides are probably actually skipping their meals. Most brides are so nervous. They're not making it their priority. And what I was doing in that moment and how I was respecting my intolerances or the way that I had learned to eat for my body. So the reason why that video went viral is because it was very
Starting point is 00:26:48 polarizing. And there was still a conversation around health being diet culture and around eating in a way that respects your body being on a diet, which they are not at all the same thing. When you meet someone who eats for cognitive function, when you eat somebody who eats for high energy, who nourishes their body, yes, they love food, but also is conscious and mindful of what they're putting in their body, that is very different than somebody who is restricting. or cutting out certain foods or eliminating things because they have a goal of back to that weight loss conversation. And that's usually what it is. They're trying to look for a calorie deficit. So that piece of content to so many people that still did not understand that shift in particularly women's health and particularly around diet, that piece of content looked like somebody dieting on their wedding because I don't eat gluten, because I don't eat dairy. But why can't you diet on your wedding? I dieted on my wedding. I don't understand that. I want to understand why that's a big deal to diet on your wedding.
Starting point is 00:27:56 What people were so upset about is they were saying it's one day, why wouldn't you just eat that? Well, for me, the reason I wouldn't want to eat it is because I was in my wedding dress that was a certain size. Fair, fair. And like, that's the reality is that you can have whatever choice. For me? The next day after the wedding, I was five margaritas deep with like some chips and salsa. But the day of the wedding, like, I'm, I'm going to be radically honest here. So as the man in the group here, and I've got to be, there's a lot of minefields here. I've got to be careful of Carson. Are you, so the video people, some individuals were upset because you chose to died and restrict
Starting point is 00:28:30 on the day of your wedding. In their eyes. In their eyes. Okay. But is that not a common, I'm going to be careful here. Is that not a common thing that women do on their wedding days? I know a lot of, because I have two sisters and I got married. And I know people are very particular about the dress on the wedding day.
Starting point is 00:28:48 Like I know like everyone, it's a big, it's a big thing. Right. So, yes. And I think that makes some people upset that people do that. And maybe they're feeling like attacked for maybe not or making different choices or everybody was saying like, it's your wedding. Just eat whatever you want or go for. But that's projecting their own opinion on to you. 100% and that's really why.
Starting point is 00:29:13 I mean, this is like, this is insane. this since spring break since the end of time. Spring break's coming up. You're on the broccoli and chicken diet. You want to look at your shirt off. I'm on a cut. I'm going to one up you with my Hollywood juice that I used to get at Rite Aid when I was 18 and you drink the whole juice.
Starting point is 00:29:28 Every fucking dude listening or watching knows that you know when you're heading to Cobb over spring break or you're going for that summer. So they got mad because you dieted on the day of the wedding. So I did not diet on my wedding. I just did what I do every single day. Got it. Which is consistency. And so.
Starting point is 00:29:45 I wanted to continue to show that. Now, my community was like, hey, we've been here. We know what you've been through with your health. We know why you respect your intolerances or sensitivities or don't eat a ton of processed sugar, lower alcohol, whatever it is. They get that. But when something goes viral to an audience. It doesn't know you. They don't know you.
Starting point is 00:30:06 They don't know context. But also, it just, it wasn't about me. It became about the conversation that people actually think that that's dieting. Because in that what I eat in a day, guess what? There's a giant piece of salmon. There's potatoes. There's champagne. This is normal food.
Starting point is 00:30:25 But what do you want to see? You want to see something that's unhealthy just because it's my wedding. You want to see me taking shots off the bar. And again, all these choices are not wrong or right. It's just let's let people advocate for what works for their own body. So many times during the day, I just want a drink that feels real. something bubbly and cultured that tastes great and actually heals my gut. That's why I've been drinking so much Synergy Cambucha. Both at the studio and at home, our fridge is always stocked with Synergy.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Here's the thing. This is real kombucha. No shortcuts. It's always raw and never pasteurized. Synergy is made with real organic ingredients that you can see and taste. And that's how you know they're working. You're getting scientifically backed benefits with every sip, like gut health, digestive support, immunity, and protein absorption. Synergy is the OG Cambucha, and I've always loved their story, which goes back 30 years. Founder G.T. Dave first began brewing in his parents' kitchen in 1995 after his mother's breast cancer diagnosis. Inspired by her recovery and the healing powers of Cambucha, he kept perfecting the recipe and eventually shared it with the world. That very same recipe is what you'll still find on shelves today, crafted with authenticity and trusted for its real benefits. Each bottle delivers
Starting point is 00:31:46 nine billion living probiotics across a diverse spectrum of beneficial bacteria you won't find in your average supplement. That diversity comes naturally from the way each batch is slowly fermented. These living cultures work hard to help your gut thrive. And when your gut microbiome is more diverse, the benefits multiply, all working to make your gut feel better. It's a daily reset for your body any time of day that you'll actually feel. And Synergy doesn't just improve your wellness. It also tastes great. There are over 20 bold flavors, so you'll definitely find one that you love. I've been into Synergy forever, and I usually gravitate towards the tropical flavors, but this fall, I've been reaching for more flavors that celebrate the season.
Starting point is 00:32:30 Honeycrisp apple, cranberry, blood orange. They really have a flavor for everyone. Each one is tangy, vibrant, and naturally bubbly. There's a party. in every bottle. There's a reason cambucha is my go-to, and of course, there's a reason it's always synergy. They were the first bottled cambucha paving the way for cambucha as we know it, and it's been the number one in the U.S. and worldwide for over 30 years. So sip it, love your gut, and feel the power of cambucha when it's crafted the right way. The synergy team can't wait for you to experience the gut health benefits of real cambucha, so they're treating you to a free bottle. Just slide into at Synergy Camboch's DMs on Instagram and send them the code Synergy Skinny to clean your coupon.
Starting point is 00:33:16 That's at Synergy Cambocha on Instagram. Drop the code and sip on your complimentary bottle while supplies last. Let's talk about Wayfair. Starting point is 00:34:43 Quick break to talk about one of our favorite supplement brands, and that is Symbiotica. Lauren and I have been taking Symbiotica for years now. We take so many of their products. It's actually hard to do these reeds in such a short period of time because I could go on and on about all the great supplements that we take from them. What I love most about Symbiotica products is most of their supplements are liposomal, which means you're actually eating them. A lot of them don't come in pill form. This is going to help your body absorb them even more efficiently. Some of the standout stars that I can't live without during this holiday season and in the winter is their vitamin C and collagen.
Starting point is 00:35:13 That one is incredible. I want my immune system up. I want my joints healthy. We also love their glutathione. I think it's the best glutathione on the market. It also doesn't taste bad like many glutathions do. This is going to be glutathione and PQQ. It's the master antioxidant of the body.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Very important as you're putting your body through the holiday stress. And they're magnesium L3 in age. You can take this in the morning. Sometimes I put it in my coffee or matcha. if I need a little bit of a brain boost in the morning, and you can also have it at night in a tea or whatever you're winding down with to help you sleep better. They also have an incredible vitamin D3K2 supplement. This is a critical foundational supplement that comes, again, in liposomal form.
Starting point is 00:35:48 We give this to ourselves. We give it to our children. And they have one of the most complex B formulas, which is going to help with your energy and metabolism, so many things. And again, in a liposomal format. In addition to that, there's many standout stars. What I love is you can go to Symbiotica's website and you can look at the wide range of different products. They have a charcoal, they have a magnesium spray, they have a sea moss,
Starting point is 00:36:08 so many different things, and you can go and figure out what's tailored and right for you, and know you can trust the quality of each of their products. Taking Symbiotica supplements is one of the easiest ways I found to stay consistent with my health goals. All you have to do is go to symbiotic.com slash TSC today to get 20% off plus free shipping. Starting point is 00:38:19 Actual price depends on product and plan purchased. It feels like everyone wants everyone to do what they want to do, but then when they do something that they don't like, that they can't. put in a box, they get mad. It's confusing. Like, people are like, let everyone live how they want to live and be who they want to be. But then if they, if you do something that steps outside a certain box, people are mad. I saw Whitney Cummings talking about this the other day. It's very confusing. I have to be honest, like from like a kindergarten level for me, it's very hard for me to digest. Everyone wants you to be who you are and be authentic. And then it's like, but it needs to be this way. Whitney Cummings, who can't like caveat she is she is a friend, but I think she's hilarious. She makes me laugh.
Starting point is 00:39:01 and she was talking about Sidney Sweeney the other day who was making news. And she was saying that women in particular, like you, you know, who cares what people think to be yourself? But then she was saying like, but people very much cared what she thinks. You know what I mean? Like they were commenting that they weren't happy
Starting point is 00:39:14 with that version of it. No, I think here's the problem with the internet in general. There's so many creators and people that want to know how to unlock going viral, but then they also want to have a protected, curated space where they don't get flak. The thing about going viral in the way, and I just hosted with your media and dinner
Starting point is 00:39:31 with the meta team and Instagram. And what we were talking about is basically, when you create something, your followers first see it. And if it like starts to do well with the followers, then it graduates to another level where they like try to introduce it to a new audience that doesn't really follow you. And if that does well, it introduces to a wider audience
Starting point is 00:39:48 who's likely never heard of you or seen you. So what you're essentially doing is inviting people into your house to your party who have no context or idea of you or your story or anything. And then they get to comment with no knowledge of who you are prior. So this happens on this show all the time. Something, eclipse, we do this.
Starting point is 00:40:04 They get taken out out of context. And a lot of the times, a lot of the anger and a lot of the people that are upset are people that have no idea who Lauren and I even are. Right? They never heard of us. They just see something that triggers some kind of reaction from them. And I think people just have to be aware that like that's the internet. So you don't get upset about it. It just.
Starting point is 00:40:21 But also you can use it to your advantage. Of course. Right? And you should. And but at the time, I didn't realize that. Oh, you should have DM'd me. You really should have. I did.
Starting point is 00:40:31 use it to my advantage in a few weeks later. Good. But in the actual moment, it's overwhelming. It's overwhelming. Okay, so as a creator, I was also much smaller. And we had just kind of come out of this cancel culture era, which was so exhausting, like so exhausting. And on the tail end of, you know, pandemic days, and we hate everyone for doing every little thing that they're doing. And I spent so much time thinking, oh my God, what if someone catches me on a walk? What if some, like, just fear. And it was so ridiculous. And when your whole life is this small little bubble of the way people view you and you're used to being vulnerable and you're used to being authentic and you start questioning if you can actually share those things, there is a lot of fear. And so I somehow think
Starting point is 00:41:26 in my head, I almost manifested it because my biggest fear, was being canceled, but I got canceled for the most ridiculous thing, eating the food that feels good for my body? So you would say that you got canceled from that? But let me give you the... This is canceled? Lorne and I are still being canceled every day, but I just, I have not yet felt the impact, Carson. This is what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:41:44 I keep hearing that I'm canceled. I will read once in a while things. My dad was luckily enough to he goes, I went to go look at you, son, the other day to see what's going on with you. And he's like, and I ended up on this place called Reddit. He's like, boy, I said, I said, dad, of all the places, I'm like, can you read the Forbes or the walls. journal in New York Times.
Starting point is 00:42:00 Like, why do you have to go to Reddit? But he didn't know. And I was like, and he's like, I read that. And he's like, I read that. And he's like, you would think that your life is full. I'm like, no, man. I'm like pretty. So anyways, I have not received the memo that I'm canceled yet.
Starting point is 00:42:10 But apparently people keep telling me I am. Because it's not a real thing. Of course it's not. Sam, were you canceled? In my eyes, yes. And it also went on major publications globally. This was not just like, oh, six million people saw it on TikTok. What's the headline?
Starting point is 00:42:24 Insane Bride Starves herself. The Daily Males of the World. Pick it up. We had a ray blowed at my wedding and they said that I was forcing pills on guests. That's like a cute detail. Yes, thank you. Thank you. We had little info cards.
Starting point is 00:42:36 I love Aray. I love Array. A ray is fabulous. Yeah, we love a ray. It's a natural herb. We do love a ray. So wait. So when they say you starved guest, what does that mean?
Starting point is 00:42:47 Honestly, Lauren, they reported on what I ate and took out full chunks of the meat. Like they did not report on the mains. They did not report on our late night taco bar. bride eats green smoothie and veggie platter all day and then has anti-blote pills. So here's my question. What is that? Now that I've been in this industry for a long time, I have no need to defend myself. I literally don't care.
Starting point is 00:43:13 That's how I've gotten so fatigued to the point. I feel like you're probably saying you get neutral. You get neutralized. You just get like, I don't have, I'm indifferent. When was the point through all of this? Because yours sounded like it went on a huge scale that you became. neutralized to it. What was that like? Okay, so right away, I was like brands are going to drop me. They're not going to want to do campaigns with me. Actually, we had some brands that made me
Starting point is 00:43:38 reshoot stuff because obviously people were associated to the wedding. They said, we don't want to be connected to this. Savage. And they made me reshoot content that is, you know, thousands of dollars of like a team and video. And so there was that right away. So I was like, this is affirming my biggest fears. And then my husband, love him more than anything, also a male's perspective. All news is great news, babe. This is amazing. This is a great conversation. You can now, you have a platform to talk about what you were actually doing, which is your health story and your health journey.
Starting point is 00:44:14 And I was honestly terrified to leave the house for a couple weeks. I thought that, like, I was much smaller at the time. It wasn't the era of everything going viral. in the same way. It was still like early on. This is two and a half years ago or so. And I thought being on all these news outlets, being viral on TikTok and Instagram in this huge, huge way, I'm going to go get a coffee and the barista's going to be like, oh, you're that girl. Oh, you're the bride. So you thought that the whole world was like in on it? I had this was like for a short period of time, but I just had no reality of like what was happening. Because you're in a bubble. You're in a bubble,
Starting point is 00:44:53 but also until you reach that point, now I'm like, come at me. Like, I love it. It's great. But let me be polarizing. Let's have a conversation. Let's have a healthy discussion or debate. Great.
Starting point is 00:45:06 But until that, like when that moment happens for the first time, and you've also feared it for a big chunk of your career, it becomes. It's hard. Yeah. It's hard. Like you've been through it. And Michael's like, nah, I love it.
Starting point is 00:45:17 No, no. I mean, listen, I think I, and I've, you know, work with a lot of people that have been in that situation and I've had a partner. in that situation. Like we've obviously been at the receiving end of that. It's scary when you, when there's like a no-faced group, when I say no-face meaning it's a stranger on the internet or a group of strangers you've never met, trying to impact and destroy parts of your life, whether it's through monetization or tearing down your family or like commentary. Like that could be scary. What I've realized not only doing our own, but working with so many prominent creators,
Starting point is 00:45:50 is that like this is like table-stations. stakes. It happens to anyone that's creating content out. The people that it doesn't happen to are usually playing it so safe that they fall into like the shadows of the creator economy. If you're in the arena, you're going to get hit. Meaning like, I've, okay, I'll like this is, I can't say who, but there's been people that I've had to work with that like I just can't continue to working with because they're, they're not polarizing and they're not, but they're also not really saying anything. Yeah, it's like pick a lane. And so nobody's like, so they don't have the engagement or the or the staying power where I as like an executive in the space can do
Starting point is 00:46:22 anything because there's no, there's no conversation going on. So what I just tell people is like, listen, if you're out there and you're speaking your truth and you're doing something in an authentic way and you're commenting on anything, you are going to, you're not going to please everybody. And you're going to have some corners of the internet that are going to be angry based on what you're doing, whether it's something that you've triggered in the way that they're living their life. Like, you know, maybe it's somebody that's dealing with some of the issues that's upset about, like, you've got through it. Like, who knows? Something I'm saying right now is probably pissing somebody off. You know what I mean? Like that's just just how it goes. And so you can't,
Starting point is 00:46:54 you can't play in this world if you're going to constantly be concerned about that. Now, the responsibility we all have is like you don't want to intentionally go out and try to hurt people, but you also have to do your thing and say your truth. I also just, you got to stand for something. If you do not stand for something, no one will be able to get behind you because you're wishy-washy and swaying from every side trying to please everybody. When you actually stand in your truth authentically, People see you. They feel seen when they relate to that truth and they will stand beside you. Until you do that, you will never find your trap. Yeah. And by the way, on the brand front, a lot of those brands that were playing that cancel culture game, many of them became irrelevant. Yeah. And now, and they're full of shit and I talk to a lot of them, like, do, like, ad week panels are just doing what I do. Like, all of them are back and saying like, hey, who has engagement? Who's moving the need? Who's saying something? Like, we want to go where, like, the interests are. It's not, you know, there's no more of these, like, culture wars anymore. It's just bullshit.
Starting point is 00:47:47 But how do you go from not wanting to leave your house or go to Starbucks to here? What's the in between? The thing that pulled me out of that was looking to the supporters. Because what ended up happening, and this has happened for you guys, I'm sure, as well, people start defending you. And people have, and even in all of the hate or the anger or people making videos, the green screens of let's go over this bride and her wedding day, people start defending you. people started popping out. Nutritionists started popping out being like, this girl ate great food, right? This girl actually fed herself. And most of my brides, wedding planners, they were all on my side because they see brides that don't eat anything that are doing crazy diets. I'm like, what? This girl's just eating her meals. And so there was those people that I didn't know that started to defend me. But then, of course, my existing tribe and community. And what that did was builds that community so much further. And it had people, like we just said, get in a lane and stand there. It had people saying, oh, no, there's her community and they defend this and I relate to them.
Starting point is 00:48:56 And now I'm a part of that, right? Let me join in on that. So I, the only way I got out of it was leaning into the people, obviously, that were supporting me and loving it. And when I actually took to my DMs and my, like, came out of, you know, the little hole after a couple of weeks, I was able to connect with that community. so much deeper. And when I actually looked at my DMs and my messages, everybody was saying, this is me. I go to weddings and I have nothing I can eat. By the way, at our wedding, we had like a whole thing that identified every single allergen. Like, it was order a la carte. It's unique to you. It was like cute. Yes. I don't know why anyone cares. It's your wedding. People started to feel seen,
Starting point is 00:49:38 though. The other side had a mirror to their face, feeling threatened, and saying, I don't feel like I'm meeting well for whatever reason that they felt I'm going to attack this because I feel threatened or hey I'm just going to jump on this trend let's be honest and it's like clickbait but the other side of it that said I'm a bride and I'm changing my whole menu now because of you can you make me meal plans can you help me heal because then they would dive through my content and see what I have context and then they said I want to understand what you've done and so it created this mass audience that now was sitting on the other side saying, we're with you.
Starting point is 00:50:14 Like, we don't care that these people are so upset about what you ate. Can you actually just help us do what you've done? Everything's happening for you. It's easy to jump on the bandwagon of hate and try to tear people down. I personally sleep well at night knowing that I've never participated in anything like that with anyone. Like, I... You did send a rude text to me the other day. But meaning like, like, okay, as a father, I'm going to teach my children.
Starting point is 00:50:37 Like, you don't, like that... Like, you need to be a productive member of... You need to put good out into the world. If you find yourself an obscure comment section trying to hurt someone that you've never met, you're not living your life the way you should be living. That's what I will tell my children. Don't you think it's entitled to that you think everything you're going to see you're going to like? Not everything you see everywhere all day long is going to be stuff you like. The point of it is figuring out what's for you. Well, the problem is this. It's like everybody wants to hold everybody else accountable, but they don't want to help themselves accountable. Right? So like the way I held myself accountable is I'm not going to comment on somebody the way that they're living their life if I'm not checking 100% of the boxes in my life. Like if I'm going to comment on some, I'll just pick, we're talking about body composition. I'm not going to pick on somebody else's body if I'm not doing the things that I need to be doing for my body. I'm not going to pick on somebody else's relationship if I'm not showing up in my. And so like it's a way for me to be like if something's, if I feel triggered in some kind of way or something upsets me, it's likely an indication that I'm falling short somewhere in my own personal life. So that's the way. So that's the way. work I need to do, not getting on the internet and attacking somebody I've never met, which is just like an absurd way to live your life. Imagine walking down the street in New York and seeing a stranger and screaming in their face about something that they're wearing. It's just you'd look like a lunatic. That's what these people look like. But Michael, you're very self-aware. I would hope so.
Starting point is 00:51:57 I would hope so. Yeah, we'll backtrack this, but the reality is most people don't think that way. They don't think if this triggers me and I want to go on a tangent and yell at them that this is something that's going on in my life. They don't actually have the mindful approach to pay attention to how they're feeling and how they're reacting. But you're saying, this is something going on in my life. If I'm mad about something with your kids or with what you're doing with your wife, etc., I need to look at my own relationship. The average person doesn't do that. Well, and, well, thank you for saying that. But I, you know, I think that's part of the reason doing this show is like, I hope, like, what I always told people about this podcast is I'm not trying to reach the 10 people that are set on thinking
Starting point is 00:52:43 that way. I'm trying to reach the one person in that 10 that's like, you know what? That's a, that's a good point. Like, let me, let me switch my stuff. And what the DMs that I like is like, if somebody sees something that I do or say, and they like, they write to me and say, I really didn't like that and it makes me feel this way. Like, I will engage. But if it's like, I hate you and I want to ruin your life, I'm like, I just ignore and I move on. I don't think about it. And I think, you know, that's, that's a healthy way to view it. When you look back on everything you went through, how do you feel about it today? The most aligned possible.
Starting point is 00:53:16 Yeah. It has created redirection and direction to my purpose in a much larger way than I could have ever seen in the moment. And I think that's fair. We have to do the work to see why what we're going through ends up being part of the direction on our purpose. But over two years now later, I can look back and see. see so clearly how I went through that for a reason to help women feel seen. And all of those women coming to me saying, I need your help, this can help me. You've gone through a similar transformation. Or like, I want to go through a similar transformation. Those women then felt seen, felt like they had a
Starting point is 00:54:03 safe place. And that's what created a snowball effect for me to lean into and ignore. people that didn't agree. Now, that was early. When I think back on it now, so much of what you were just saying, Michael, it's like there's that one person that probably needs to hear it so much in that group. I think of the people that got behind me were, again, more self-aware that they needed something to support them. The people who didn't get behind me, those are probably the people that need me the most, right? Or need content. that allows them to feel like I can, I'm worthy. I can step into the best version of myself because somewhere in their minds,
Starting point is 00:54:48 they're telling themselves that they don't deserve that. They're telling themselves that they don't deserve to feel good, that they don't deserve to make choices for their own body. There is something subconsciously that is a blocker in them living their best life or that they know that they're not living their best life. And so ultimately, those are the people that need it the most. Now, is it my responsibility to handhold everybody, to get to that point, no. But it is every individual's responsibility to take what they need for
Starting point is 00:55:17 inspiration and co-create alongside of that, right? If someone comes to you and wants to have a transformation right now and they feel like shit, mentally, physically, emotionally, where do you start? What's the blueprint? The Sam blueprint. So I, from the wedding, and I want to take it back to the story here, because that is exactly what we would do. Everybody was coming to me and I was thinking, how do I actually support them? Obviously, I was a health coach, but taking people one-on-one is not going to be able to scale.
Starting point is 00:55:49 It's not going to be able to actually serve those people the best that I can because I'm going to be able to take 10 people. So I said, okay, I'm going to throw out a PDF of a meal plan because I think back to what we were talking about, your baseline is your strongest foundation. If you can get to a place where you're feeding yourself whole foods most of the time, you are already light years ahead of the majority of people. So my approach and the best thing that I thought I could do was throwing up a meal plan.
Starting point is 00:56:12 It also distracted me from all the noise and the way that I felt. So I took that moment. I said, okay, 20 people buy this meal plan. We've had a lot of people reaching out for like, you know, one-on-one support. That'll be great. We'll throw it up. We'll see if anyone wants to do it. It'll be a month.
Starting point is 00:56:29 Literally a piece of paper, Lauren, like piece of paper made on Canva, PDF. 650 people bought it in the first week. And then they went, what's next month? And I thought, oh, okay, we have a business. Not just something that I'm doing here to support you, but there's some proof of concept. There's some product market fit here. And in that, I instantly took every single dollars, which is like a PDF that they purchased, by the way, for $59, which is the same price as our monthly membership now, exact same price for a piece of paper,
Starting point is 00:57:03 I repeat, and a WhatsApp chat because women wanted to have somewhere to connect. I took every single dollar and we said, let's film these recipes. We're not doing anything crazy, but all the recipes that are on these, can we make them short, clip bite style, kind of like a TikTok or Instagram? So women can now see what's actually going in the recipes, what is the food that's being made here? So we took all that money and we put it back into filming it. We threw up a Squarespace site. That Squarespace site was join each month, monthly purchases, very janky, uploading the videos all the time. still women kept coming.
Starting point is 00:57:37 We still had the WhatsApp chat. We realized right away once we got to the Squarespace site that that was a lot of heavy lifting, not scalable, and we started looking into how can we turn this into an app. This is all so quickly because at each stage, women loved it more, but it proved more like we have to better this technology. So we figured out how to turn into an app
Starting point is 00:57:59 and we launched an app for Mindful in May of 20, in May of 2024, a year and a bit ago. And now we're at the stage where we're launching our own custom app in December. So every single stage of that, we've taken exactly what the audience has wanted. What do you want? We want meal plans. We want community. Okay. Let's turn that into the first version of it. We want to be able to get this subscription. Okay, we turned into subscription app. We want to be able to get all these programs that are specific for hormone and balance, for body recomp for my sugar addiction, for clearing my skin. We want that in a place where we can follow these programs. Can you make this support me and what I'm going through? Great. We'll do that.
Starting point is 00:58:43 So every single piece of this business has been co-created with our community. I feel like I'm just kind of the leader in it and they're pushing it along in so many ways. And that moment would have never happened. I don't know if I would have had the confidence to launch into what we did without feeling like it can't get worse from here. What are they going to do? They're not going to buy it. What are they going to do? They're scrutinize the meal plan. I'm just going to throw this out and see what happens. And because of that, we've been able to build a business now two years in. We've never spent a dollar on marketing. That's amazing. Congratulations. Thank you. It's very well deserved. I think it's so smart to lean into the community, listen to them and double down on what's
Starting point is 00:59:29 working. I have a hack, all right? I got a lot of my holiday gifts on this site. It's called From Rebel. And what I love about Mizden and Maine is that it's classic style made easy. What I also love about them is it's style that you can invest in and enjoy forever. What's your day in the life look like?
Starting point is 01:05:03 Right now it looks a little crazy because I'm doing a lot of things on Dubai time. So I'm up at like 5 a.m. What's the Dubai thing? I'm doing a program in Dubai for they have a big focus on creator-led businesses right now. So they flew out 20 creator-led founders to basically accelerate their businesses. I've never been there. Is it cool? So cool. You want to come in January? Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:05:25 Should I bring my three kids? We've never been. Yes. You should. You would love it. They're doing, actually, no, hear me out. Because in January, they're doing the one billion followers summit, huge names. Most people speaking have multi-million followers. And it's all creators, creator-led businesses, building for the creator economy. And it's all funded.
Starting point is 01:05:45 Like, Dubai is really creating this hub for creators. And they have a- But why working on Dubai time? because I'm doing a program that's with 500 Global, which is an accelerator program, and Creator HQ, which is in Dubai. And so there's creators from all over the world. We're 20, but people are literally everywhere in the world. So there's like two Americans. You know who you remind me of? Your energy reminds me of Annie Lawless. She's very successful. I love it. Hang on, I'm wearing Lawlessip gloss. Yeah, she reminds me of her. I remember her when she was
Starting point is 01:06:18 just starting out with Suja. You have the same I don't know. There's an essence. No, it's maybe it's the same essence. It's the same ambition. We're smiley, but we might. No, yeah. Don't underestimate. You have it organized, I can tell. That's a very big compliment. Annie's amazing. What's a day in the life? I'd be crazy not to ask you that.
Starting point is 01:06:39 Right now I'm pretty much up at 5 a.m. Normally not. So I have to give that because it's normally not what happens. What's normally? 6.36.45. Okay. Yeah. Like a normal human being that wakes up early. Five is just not my jam, but it's happening for a short period of time. I'm up really early. I at least need one hour to wake up. If I have to be at the gym in an hour, I have to be on a call, whatever it is, one full hour where I'm listening to affirmations, doing a journal exercise. What affirmations do you like? So there's this girl, Madison, mindset, and I've listened to her four years. I listen to her on Spotify.
Starting point is 01:07:16 Okay. She's great. Got to check it out. Check it out. She's awesome. And she's also Australian. I just love the accent. It's like, so peaceful. So your husband's not allowed to speak to you for an hour? Yes, pretty much. Hey, go on. Yeah. It doesn't go. Like, you're taken out. He's, you're not a five.
Starting point is 01:07:32 Pin it to your pinboard. So, actually, he's normally up before me. But right now, he's up after me because I'm getting up at five. Okay. So you listen to your affirmations. I'm a morning person. He's a night person. So we're just like, if you want to be compatible, we've agreed that there's this split. That's great. You need a little absence.
Starting point is 01:07:48 Yeah. So. affirmations, I would say the first thing I do is grab my five-minute journal. It's like just the easiest way to journal and have some gratitude and just get it done with and like really get your head in the right space, wash up. I'm making matcha. I'm having a starter, which is basically like a morning snack before breakfast. Have you seen me talk about this? I haven't seen a starter.
Starting point is 01:08:11 What's a starter? This is a non-negotiable for me. It is so many women wake up and they're not hungry. And a lot of this is because you're not hungry. You're not hungry, you are. No, yeah. A lot of it is because of cortisol and just other hormones being in balance. And also like sometimes it's just early and we're not hungry yet.
Starting point is 01:08:28 Yeah. But the reality is if we can get food into our body before we work out gives us sustained energy. It's very important, especially protein. But I feel like it's managing your insulin too, right? Yeah. Like you're not. It's almost doing what a GLP1 does, which is like it's not crashing you. So then you get so hungry.
Starting point is 01:08:47 You want to balance your blood sugar. Exactly. You want to balance your blood sugar throughout the day. Andy always says this. My trainer says this. Yes. And also, I don't know if they talk about this, but time restricted eating is basically just like eating with the circadian rhythm. So you're eating when the sun's up. Oh, that's interesting. I've never heard that. So what's the starter that you're eating? So I usually have a hard boiled egg. Okay. Just one. Just one. One or two. Or I'll have literally a scoop of gut instinct in like cashew milk or something. Okay. So that's what I'm having first thing within like 30 minutes to an hour of waking up, making a matcha because I don't function without it.
Starting point is 01:09:24 I'm addicted to matcha. It's amazing. What's the brand? We have our own matcha. Oh, I got to try your matcha. I know. We got to send you our match. Okay. Did you bring me some?
Starting point is 01:09:31 I brought you a bunch of things. Oh, okay. You got all the hookups. Okay. And gut instinct. I can't wait to try that. But you didn't get the macho. I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 01:09:40 I got the one thing I didn't bring you. It's okay. I brought you sweatsuits. I brought you. I love it. all. Go ahead. We're going to get you matcha.
Starting point is 01:09:47 Are you a matcha person? Yeah. Okay. I'm just see. You got to do it the proper. Did you do it the proper way? Ceremonial grade? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:53 Yeah. Yeah. The thing with matcha is like if you're not a matcha person, put match on a loaf or put match on anything and you'll end up liking match. Like you can add it to a smoothie. I don't know a lot in the bread. Okay. Really?
Starting point is 01:10:04 I'm going to give you a recipe. So I do matcha loaf. Okay. Which is matcha. Gut instinct. Egg. So gut instinct is our protein powder. Okay.
Starting point is 01:10:14 And you can use it in lieu of flour in so many recipes. You have to send me the recipe. Yeah. And you can put egg, you can put a little salt. And basically you have loaf. You can put a little maple syrup if you want. So easy. Yeah, that sounds good.
Starting point is 01:10:29 It's like four ingredients. Done. Okay, so you drink your macha. Drink my macha. And then I usually walk my dogs and go to the gym. And that's your morning, always. And then you're right into work. I'm always stretching.
Starting point is 01:10:40 I do the gym. I do sauna. I do ice bath, like all the things when I have time. Are you lifting? weights. Yeah. Wights. Always.
Starting point is 01:10:46 That's what you like. Always. It's so interesting to see the thread of people who come on the show that lifts weights. I swear it's like a dog whistle to me. I can tell who lifts weights. You can just tell. Like, it's like, it's like an invisible string. I can tell you lift weights.
Starting point is 01:11:06 I think that when you build more muscle, it genuinely helps manage your. anxiety. It's like your nervous system changes. It's insane. It's crazy that. So I think Pilates and these slower movements, I also walk every single day. And that's like a non-negotiable for me. Even if it's 30 minutes and I'm just out on a call, I need to move my body in some way. Are you like one of those people that's like insanely tracking the steps or is it just go with the flow? I don't track anything. I do not track calories. I do not track steps. I do not measure my food. No. Calorie counting is this myth that has been, is outdated, whether you call it calories, whether you call it points, whatever it is, all it is is restricting and focusing too much on something that's adding additional
Starting point is 01:11:52 stress. I can't. I don't have the capacity to count calories. I never have. Of all the things I've learned how to do in my life, I have no idea how to count calories. I wouldn't know, like, if you told me to do it, I don't know how. No, no, no. I'm not a calorie counter either. I just eat protein first. That's my strategy. So focus on what you're consuming and the quality of the foods and the macros, not necessarily measuring macros, but actually looking at your plate saying, do I have a bunch of protein on this plate? And some people don't know what that is. We can help you. Mindful. But if you don't know what protein is or where you're getting that from, even plant-based proteins, people don't really have a full understanding of what those sources are. Understanding that is the first level. Right. So that goes beyond. Like the first step is just, okay, I need whole foods. Right. Let's get you there. Then it's what are proteins? What are carbohydrates? What's the different scene of complex or a simple carbohydrates? Again, layering your education around nutrition is going to give you so much power to eat freely and live fully.
Starting point is 01:12:47 That's what we always say. Like, you just want to be free. I'm really into fiber too right now. Yes. So important. Fiber with the protein. Yeah. I found a powder that has unsweetened.
Starting point is 01:12:56 You can just put it in the collagen and like mix it up and drink it down. And that's what we do too. It got instinct. It's all. So it's a gut powder, protein powder hybrid. Oh, so there's fiber in it. Tons of fiber. I love that.
Starting point is 01:13:07 Yeah. You got like full chia seeds in there. It's great. You're going to love it. We're actually the first on the market that has no sweeteners, no flavors. I like that. Not even like a natural sweetener, not even a monk fruit. What we do is we have cinnamon. So we have macca. So you get like that natural little sweet. It helps balance your hormones. It helps lowers your bloke. bromoline. It's like amazing. It's so smart because you created something that you wanted. I created what the audience asked for. Yeah. Yeah. It's like co-collaborative. Yeah. Okay. I have a couple of rapid fire questions. and then I have some newsletter questions.
Starting point is 01:13:41 If you guys are not signed up to the skinny confidential newsletter, you got to go run over there because I'm going to ask some beauty tips and wellness trends. Okay. What is your most controversial food opinion? Let it rip. Be honest. So I think gluten is one of them. Okay.
Starting point is 01:13:59 You don't like it. It's inflammatory for most people. And people will die on that hill that they're, wanting to eat gluten. I think that in different countries, it can be different, but here in North America, gluten is going to cause inflammation. That's our doctor that's amazing for my kids, literally just told me that. She's like, if you want, it causes inflammation. Unless you're in Italy. The thing is, you don't have to cut out these things, but you need to be aware of what they do. Right. So I personally don't eat gluten. I have a reaction to it. If you feel like you maybe don't have a
Starting point is 01:14:37 reaction to her you're not sure. I think testing and seeing being feel good curious, cutting something out temporarily and seeing how that works for you, finding the correlation between the food that you're eating and how it's reacting for your body, which is a big part of also what we do is just like understanding what foods are reacting for you, but people will die on the hill of gluten. There is this brand. It's called the Good Sourdough Project that we order from here. If anyone's here, it's gluten free. And it's a loaf. And my kids love it and they have crackers and like it tastes, It's delicious. Okay.
Starting point is 01:15:08 It's in, it's local in Austin. Are you in Austin? No. Okay, that's what I thought. No, I was like, do I need to get this the next 24 hours? I'll send you the link. Okay, it's very good.
Starting point is 01:15:16 Okay. One supplement you can't live without. I have to say gut instinct, obviously. Okay, but like give me more broad. Something broad. Like, for instance, elderberry. Give me like a broad supplement. I mean, magnesium, definitely.
Starting point is 01:15:28 Okay. I think that's like a non-negotiable. It's going to help you optimize the protein that you are eating. It's going to help optimize your gut health. It's going to help you. sleep, it's going to lower, it's going to help manage your nervous system, like all of the things. It's just the secret. Like, everybody needs to take it.
Starting point is 01:15:43 What's the one habit that is non-negotiable for you besides like sleep and eating well? The gym. I mean, that's so broad. But I, it doesn't matter what it is showing up. I go five days a week, Monday to Friday. And I cannot not show up. And the reason for it is I don't care if I show up at the gym or like maybe in my hotel room or whatever it looks like, and I go for 10 minutes. It is what it does for me mentally
Starting point is 01:16:14 to check that off and to feel accomplished through my day and to create the consistency of habit is way more powerful than actually like getting to a point where you're exhausted and you're drenched and sweat. You just need to do it. You need to keep doing it. And you just create so much more confidence when you do what you say you're going to do. Last question on here. What's the most important part of your skincare routine. You beautiful skin. We got to ask you this. I mean, hydration is probably the biggest thing. You're an inside out type of person. No, I am. Every answer, I'm like, drink your water people. Inside out. But really like staying hydrated. That's also topically, but consuming enough water, people don't actually drink enough water day to day. So they're not
Starting point is 01:16:57 seeing the results that they would want in their skin because they're putting on things topically, but it comes at the cellular level as well. So, yeah, I'm like all about the hydration mass, the everything that I can do to keep it hydrated is going to keep you looking younger. You have a code for the audience and we have a giveaway. Okay. So you gave 50% off the annual memberships with Code Skinny at mindful.com. Yes. Is S.O right? Dot S.O. Yeah. Is S0 new? SOS like software. What's S.O? It's new, Lauren. You keep up. No. Do you use Notion? No. Notion's dot-s-o. I'm not a big, like,
Starting point is 01:17:33 okay, Michael uses notion. I don't use notion. I had to look at Excel sheet today, and I told my team, I was like, you're going to have to send me a text. Lauren has been creating digital content and businesses for two decades and is the least
Starting point is 01:17:46 tech savvy person I have ever met in my entire life. My husband's probably. My energy is you make it work. She tries to run her entire business off an iPad. It works. It does work. She seems to be doing quite well. No slack.
Starting point is 01:18:01 notion, no, mind your own. I don't need another way for people to get a hold of me. She's had an email auto responder on for four years running. That's never awful. It says, sorry I'm in my creative element. She responds to emails. She'd be like
Starting point is 01:18:15 what are we doing about this? That's what my email says. If anyone emails me, it says I'm so sorry. Actually, it doesn't say sorry because that's a negative. It says, thank you so much for reaching out. I'm actually in my creative. Let me tell you what else she does. Now that I'm on a rant. I need to do that. She decided that too many people had her phone number. I changed it. And she changed. And she
Starting point is 01:18:30 changed it, but what she did, which is okay to change it, she deleted her old number, but the old number had all the two-factor authentication for everything. Our bank accounts, our passports, our global entry. Everyone does not deserve access to your energy. This is a whole podcast. I'm sorry. So then what happened is we couldn't get into anything. I didn't tell him for a few days. I just changed the number. He's like, there's no number. There's no number. The kids are waiting. Like, where are you? And we had to go and do all. It's just, and I'm like, You could have just changed the number, but like saved the phone. It's insane behavior.
Starting point is 01:19:04 I honestly, I have to say I'm with Lauren on this. Not necessarily changing the phone number, but you have to put protective barriers. Of course. But you can go to extremes now because people are going to extremes to get you. So it's fair to go to extremes to keep them out. I've had the same phone number since I was 12 years old. That's so out. That's out.
Starting point is 01:19:23 Sorry, it's time to change the old number. It's feeling like, are your exes still texting you? I can't say. Maybe. Late night. Maybe. No, I don't think I don't think my exes ever want to hear from me again to be honest. I'm not going
Starting point is 01:19:35 through your phone because I'm too overwhelmed so don't worry. You could though, I mean like honestly No, I'm good. If you knew me when I was 12, it's the same number. Reach on out. Mindful.S-O-M-I-N-D-F-U-L dot S-O. It's typically $299 and now it's $149. That's a great deal.

Starting point is 01:20:18 Yeah. And change my number. Change your number and get a... But just make sure you move the two factor first, like before you delete the number. Because I'm telling you it's a huge pain of the ass. I want to change it again. change it back to something else. Something different.
Starting point is 01:20:31 Yeah. We are, I love that you just said, like, to stay true to what you're trying to do. Yeah. We are disrupting an industry that was built by men for women. Yeah. And it has not been disrupted in years. A lot of the industries need to be disrupted with that. I mean, even like, you look at, like, the beverage industry or the food industry,
Starting point is 01:20:53 and, like, they're designing for women and it's indigestable. Right. It's giving indigestion. They're not even testing the market that they're building it for. No. Maybe there's men just know better than you women. Oh, it's a fucking joke, everyone. Calm down.
Starting point is 01:21:06 It's a joke. Michael Bostic was recently canceled on his episode. Where can everyone find you and say hello and follow your content? Yes. I am at the fit fatal on everything. So come say hi. Hit me up in the DMs. Mindful.
