And we are going to discuss motivation.
and I'm going to really get into details on this podcast about how I stay motivated, how I kick my own
ass techniques and tips and tricks that I use to really, really sort of light a fire and create
that motivation. I think that motivation is something that is definitely hardwired into you,
but I do think that there's lots of little tips and secrets that you can do to keep yourself motivated.
All right, so I'm just going to take a sip of my.

With that, I will get right into it because there's so much information in this specific podcast,
and it's just going to be me. And before I get into it, I would love to know after this podcast

You're ready? So I think the core of motivation, and this may be crazy, but this is just what works for me,
starts with your morning. I think your morning is the complete foundation of your day. It's such an
important routine, and it's a way that you can sort of set the tone of the entire rest of the day.
I used to be one of those people that would wake up and I would immediately check my phone.
I would be completely reactive.
I would look at my email inbox.
I would respond to text.
Things would upset me.
Then I would go in my DMs.
I'd start looking at other people on social media and it was just atrocious.
It was such a distraction.
So like three years ago, I really started to refine my morning routine.
And I think that there's not one morning routine that fits all.
Everyone's different.
You have to get in touch with your own self and sort of figure out what.
what's going to work for you and what's not.
So I started making lists of things that were bothering me in the morning,
things that I could improve on,
and things that I really, really liked and that brought me joy.
And I decided to sort of crowd out the bad with the good
and really set an intention for my morning.
So here's a couple tips and tricks that I use to set my morning.
So I feel very, very motivated during the day.
The first thing is the second that,
I wake up, I open the shades. I think that having that light in the room is really, really powerful.
We've talked about this before. I seriously experience seasonal depression. I'm not joking.
I was just in London and I felt that only a couple hours of daylight was just not working for me.
I need a lot of daylight. I'm someone that that responds to that. So opening the shades first thing in
the morning is really powerful for me. Then I normally get back in bed and I say,
sit upright. And I sit upright because, and this is crazy, but these are just like little things that I
do and I want to get really specific like always. I want to drain my lymphatic system and my face. I don't
want to lay back down. I like to sleep on a couple pillows because I don't want my face to be all puffy
in the morning. So anyways, when I meditate, I sit upright and I drink my water the entire time I'm meditating.
And maybe that's not what you're supposed to do, but that's just what works for me. I want to
immediately hydrate in the morning. Cameron Diaz said that you're like, you're like,
you're like a plant in the morning. And the first thing you want to do when you wake up is water that
plant. So I hydrate a lot first thing in the morning. I usually have a freezing cold hydroflask right
next to my bed, wrote a blog post on it on the skinny confidential. You can Google the skinny confidential
hydroflask to read that. And I always have like lemon or mint in the water from the night before and I fill
it with ice. So when I wake up, I have this really beautiful spa water next to my bed and it's cold. And that's so
nice. And what's so amazing about the hydro flask, and I've said this a hundred times, but it's like
you don't, I hate having to lift a water bottle up with a hydroflask. You can just be lazy and let the
straw hang out of your mouth while you sip it. So you can imagine me in my green silk, Amazon pajamas,
drinking my hydro flask, just letting the water pour into my mouth while I meditate. And I meditate
to headspace. And what I do during that headspace time is not completely clear my head. I think that
it's almost impossible to clear your head. I mean, if you guys have any tips and tricks on that,
I would love to know some because it's very, very hard for me to just completely have a blank
thoughts for 10 minutes. So usually during headspace, I'm thinking of good things. I'm thinking
gratitude. I'm thinking about all the people that I love, about how I can be just a better human
for the day. And then I'm thinking about my business and plans to grow it. I try to avoid the to do
list. I found that that's incredibly distracting. So I try to think of more broad things. And I really do
focus on, you know, how I'm going to be motivated for that day. So meditation, again, that's the
foundation of the day. So immediately after meditation, I'll make the bed. There's something about
making the bed for me that's incredibly therapeutic. I have to do it every morning. I don't want Michael to do it.
I want to do it myself. And this is perfect because he's not in the bed anyway. So I like all the blankets
it's folded. I'm like, I'm like fucking Cinderella. Okay. Remember when the birds were like making the
pillows and like pulling like the sides. There's something, I don't know what it is calming about making
the bed. I get up and I immediately throw on like track pants. And so what I did is I went on
Amazon and this may sound weird, but I'm just like I said, I'm getting very detailed with you guys.
And I took any choices out of the equation. So I was waking up and like trying to find clothes and
trying to find pads and trying to find a thong and like all this shit. I just wanted to wake up and be
able to grab the same outfit every single morning. So I bought a 12 pack of cotton thong underwear. It's
just like black thong underwear. And then I bought a pack of pads. It's 12 pads. Peds are like those
socks that you can't see out of the shoes. And then I bought a track outfit that's just really simple.
It's black. It's like a hoodie. And then it has track pants. And so I throw on the same outfit immediately in
the morning. This is not going to be my workout outfit. It's just the outfit that I walk to the
coffee store in. And then I have a hat right next to it. It's just a black plain hat and I can
throw the hat on. And immediately I get up. I put my outfit on. It's the same outfit every day.
And I walk to the coffee store like a bum. So while I'm walking to the coffee store,
I really like to start my day with a motivational podcast. And this is something that I've learned
over the last three years. Sometimes I would start my day with a podcast that maybe wasn't motivational.
maybe it was funny or entertaining, but it wasn't really expanding my brain. You know what I mean? So now I'm
very cognitive about who is included in my mornings. And I think that, you know, that's saying that you are the
five people that you hang around. That has to do with who you're consuming content with, too. I mean,
who are the top five people that you're consuming? Are they motivational? Are they educational? Are they
expanding your brain. I think that that's something that's important to look at. They're impacting
and influencing your day. So for me, I need to always have a podcast that starts my day off with a lot
of value and a lot of motivation. I think that's really important. And some of the podcasters that I
listen to are Ed Millette. He was on this podcast. He's incredibly inspiring. I also like Lewis Howes,
Gary V. Tim Ferriss. Usually it's a guy in the morning for some reason. So if you guys have any
women podcasters that provide a lot of value I would love to know on my latest Instagram.
I also really like the balanced blonde and the champagne diet. I think that they provide a lot of
value. So just starting your day off with a podcast that that's motivational. I am all about a
side hustle and I've had the same side hustle for a while and that is selling my clothes online.
I think that if I wear something and I'm done with it, I either want to donate it or give it to a
sister or a friend or sell it online. I've had massive success with putting my clothes on
line and where I do that is with Poshmark. One time I was shopping on Poshmark and I was looking for a

So you'll notice that I have not checked my phone. The only thing I've done with my phone so far is put on
headspace for 10 minutes and then turn to podcast on. I do not check my phone. I find it to completely
raise my cortisol. And that's the last thing I want to do in the morning is raise my cortisol.
So I put my phone in my pocket while I listen to the podcast and walk to get coffee. I have this
little tiny hole in the wall coffee shop that I like to go to in West Hollywood. And I used to go to like the
more trendy ones. And I found that I would like run into someone or I don't know, get distracted or
the line was too long. I just want to go to like a little tiny place where there's not a lot of
people and there's not a line. So I have this little coffee shop like I said that I go to and I do
the same order every day. They know me. I like an almond milk unsweetened capuchina. And then I add
cinnamon to it. And then I'll do, they have either a blood orange iced tea unsweetened or a tangerine
ice tea unsweetened. And as you can see right now still, I'm, I'm set.
the tone of my day and I'm setting myself up to feel motivated throughout the day. So I have my specific
routine. Walk back with my coffee and my tea listening to my podcast still and I'll go in my kitchen
and then I always like to and again, this is so specific but I just want to make sure that I'm
sort of giving the whole layout. I'll add my inulin to my coffee. And inulin has been something
that has been life changing. I get it through Ingrid of the method. If you go on the blog and Google Ingrid,
there's like so many articles about it. She recommended this to me. It's a prebiotic that fills you up and
it's awesome when you're intermittent fasting. And I've been intermittent fasting for the last six months.
I cannot say enough good things about it. That's a whole different podcast. But inulin is definitely
something that it makes me happy to put in my coffee. It tastes good. It makes your coffee kind of frothy.
And what I like to do is I like to actually use a frother. So I got this hot pink frother off Amazon and
basically I'll just put it in my coffee with like two scoops, three scoops sometimes of inulin,
and then just mix it up. So now I have my coffee with inuline, my tea, I put some oils on,
I'm drinking a lot of water, maybe a candle or two. And Michael's usually kind of passing me
out the door at this point. He wakes up very early, 5 a.m. So we're on different schedules,
which I think is amazing. One of the things that I love about our relationship is we're together a lot,
but we're also coexisting as independent humans.
We're not, you know, always dependent on each other.
We can be around each other but still be doing our own thing.
That was always really important to me when finding a mate and partner.
And again, that's a different podcast.
So after that, I go downstairs because our bedroom is downstairs and I lay out my mat
and whatever Skype situation I'm doing.
So if I work out with Kim Kelly and do the body guide, then I have this hot pink striped band that I use.
And then if I'm working out with Ingram,
of the method, I'll use a stick. And then if I decide to do P-Volve, I just have the P-Volve ball.
So all my stuff is like in one place. I don't have it everywhere. It's not crazy. You know what I
mean? Everything is tidy and where it should be so I can just grab it and go. So I lay that out.
And then by this point, I usually have 15 minutes to myself to just sort of sit down, relax. There's
lots of sun in the room. I'm listening to my motivational podcast because I want to be as motivated as
possible throughout the day. And I'm able to just sit there and drink my coffee and drink my water
and drink my tea and my 850 beverages and relax for 15 minutes until it's time to Skype.
So then I will get on Skype and my Skype workouts are always an hour. And if I'm Skyping with Ingrid
or Kim, I'll usually catch up for like five minutes. I think that it's nice to be able to wake up
and just talk to each of them. You know, Kim has so many great tips and tricks when it comes to diet and
exercise and so does Ingrid. So I'll check in with them. I'll ask some questions. Like,
you know, random questions. The other day I was talking to Ingrid about the kind of olive oil
to use or I'll ask Kim, you know, what kind of hummus she had in her Instagram story and why
she liked it. So I kind of just like check in with them and then we get right into the workout.
And I think that working out in the morning is so key for me. It really, really motivates me to
really conquer the day. I think starting with a workout in the morning, it's just, there's something
powerful about it. And before, before this, just to like wrap it full circle, I'll usually throw on a
sports bra. Okay. So at this point, I've taken my track suit top off and I'll throw on a sports bra.
And we've talked about this with Fabletics. I'm really obsessed with the hot pink sports bar right now.
Anyways, just so you can picture what I'm wearing. So after my workout is over, immediately, I usually will in,
and I have a call with one of my team members 15 minutes after my workout. And I do this on purpose
because it's basically time blocking without the cube. So I'm basically saying, listen, I have 15 minutes
to get my ass in the shower. In the shower, I love to get cold. This automatically wakes up my
lymphatic system. I dry brush a lot, but I have to admit I normally dry brush in the shower because I want to be
as efficient as possible. So I have a dishwasher brush. I know that's crazy, but the little body brushes
weren't strong enough for me, so I went out and bought a dishwasher brush, and that's what I dry brush with.
But I guess it's not dry brushing, it's more like wet brushing, but it does wake up my lymphatic
system with the freezing cold. And I like to do a hot cold shower, not just a cold shower,
because I don't want to be freezing when I get out of the shower. I don't want to catch a cold.
I just want to be, I want to get cold for like 30 seconds and then be hot for 30 seconds.
So I'll switch the shower back and forth. And I have found that this really motivates me, again, to wake up.
and just tightens my face, tightens my pores, and I just feel invigorated. You know what I mean?
After the shower, it's time to get to work. And this is where the motivation really comes into play.
So the first thing I like to do is the morning pages. And admittedly, you're supposed to do it right
when you wake up, but I don't. I do it after my workout. So the morning pages is from this book
called The Artist's Way. And basically what you do is it's a brain dump. And you're not judging yourself
while you're writing. So you just write three pages every morning. Mornings are best to do it. If you could
do it before noon, that's awesome. And you just write. You don't need to write about anything. You don't
need to write your to do list. You just write whatever comes to your mind. And I find that this is a really
great way to clear your head and continue to stay motivated. So you could write down, you know,
you could even make a list, like I'll make a list of three things that are priorities for the day.
or I'll talk about something that's bothering me and just write it out. And this is just in a really simple
notebook. So I found that I was writing my to-do lists, you know, in these pages too. And I thought,
okay, I need a separate book for my to-do list. This is getting too confusing. So now I just have one
notebook. It has a rose on it. It's by Shop Bandu. I hope I'm pronouncing that right. And it's just
three pages every day. I date them very simple to the point. My writing's messy.
it's nothing pretty. Then I have another to-do list spiral journal and that's hot pink and it's all my work
stuff. So what I did is after 2018, I sat down and on the first page are all the goals that I want to
accomplish this year. So every single morning when I wake up and I open that book, I see my goals for
the year. And there is something so powerful about looking at your goals right in the face.
every single day. So I open it up. It's highlighted. It's color-coded. It talks about my five top
main goals that need to happen this year. And underneath those goals are systems. Okay. So there's systems
on how to get there. So let me give you an example. One of my goals this year is to get an office space,
but not just any old office space. I want a very Instagram-y office space that's an interactive workplace.
I want to create culture. I want to make it very simple.
stylish. I want to decorate it very skinny confidential-esque. And that's a great goal and that's cute
and that's fun. But what are the systems that I'm taking to get there? And what is the due date on this? Is it
going to happen in six months? Is it going to happen in a week? So I set a due date. And then underneath the
goal, I write the systems that I'm going to take to get there. So let me give you an example.
One says to call my realtor. One says to find a designer that has the same taste as me and work with them to
create this curated space. Another one says, you know, get the right lighting. Another says to get the
kind of desk that I want for my team. There's another thing that says the kind of microphones to buy
for the podcast. So there's all these little detailed notes underneath my goal in there and there's
systems on how to get there. And I really try to work backwards here. So there's all these steps that it
takes to get an office, right? You get the realtor, then you have to get it, then you have to clean it,
then you have to paint it, whatever it is. It's all under this goal. So I have the
five goals laid out. I look at that and it's so, so motivating. If you don't have a notebook with your
goals on the front page, nice and highlighted, crystal clear, nice writing, you should do it. I'm telling
you it's life-changing. Then within that book, I have to-do lists. And how I like to do my to-do list
is this. I like to put the day of the week, so let's say it's Monday. And then I like to put seven
top priorities that need to happen for that day. And then after the seven, I'll add a couple more
that I would really be happy if I accomplished. Then I'll put Monday or I'll put Tuesday and then I'll
put more goals that I want to accomplish on Tuesdays, top seven and then a couple little ones.
And then Wednesday I'll do the same thing, et cetera, you get it. Then I really try to accomplish
those seven priorities of the day. And then the other things that I have listed on that to do
list, I try to accomplish as well. Now, if I don't get to all of them, because usually I don't,
I highlight the ones that I got to so I can see that they're crossed off and they're done.
That way I can add the other things that I needed to get done to the next day. Does that make sense?
Taylor, does that make sense? Basically, I'm trying to get everything done on my to-do list for Monday,
but if I can't, then it's not highlighted and I'll just bump it to the next day. So that really helps me stay
organized. And if I'm running around and I don't want to carry a huge notebook with me, because let's be
honest, like that's annoying and we don't want bad posture, I will take a picture of the list. So I have like a
digital picture on my phone. And a lot of people will say, well, why don't you put, you know,
your to-do list on your phone? There's something about writing it out. I don't know. Maybe I'm old
fashion that just makes it happen more for me. So having it written out is just, for me, it's better. And I can't
wait until I have an office with a computer and I can have my very anal to do list next to me.
The to do list, like I do really think it's important because it's like I said earlier,
it's creating those systems to get to the bigger goals. I always want to be moving forward and

Since we're talking about motivation here, I think that we should talk about progress because
I think that motivation really happens when you're feeling you're progressing.
Tony Robbins says that the secret to happiness is progress.
He talks about it all the time.
So progress means that you're growing and that you're progressing towards something that's positive.
You don't want to be degressing, right? When you're making progress, you feel good and that's motivating in itself.
So I always try to make sure that my sort of needle is moving towards progression and not degressing.
So like my photos need to always be improving. My writing always needs to be improving.
If I'm, if I'm, you know, interested in a podcast or reading something, I always want to learn more.
So as long as I'm progressing, I feel incredibly motivated. And I think that if you're in a, you know, standstill in your life where you're not feeling like you're progressing, that that's what you should concentrate on to stay motivated. How can you progress today? Because what it really is about is it's not just reaching the goals, right? It's the journey. It's not just the destination. The journey totally gets me off, the process. And when you're continuing to really enjoy the process, you feel like,
you're progressing, which in turn keeps you motivated. Once my to-do list is done, I get to my emails,
my Slack. If I have conference calls that day, I batch my conference calls on a Wednesday, I'll do that,
you know, checking in with the blog, making sure I'm answering DMs, just all the different things
that I do, editing photos, editing video, just whatever it is for the day, just making sure, again,
that I'm progressing and, and really, you know, focusing, not having distractions. I think that also,
it's hard to feel motivated when you're doing 800 things at once and trust me I've been there. I won't walk
you through my whole day because every single day is different. Sometimes we're shooting content. Sometimes
we're interviewing people at the studio. Sometimes we're running around. Sometimes we're having meetings
somewhere else. So every day is different there. And I think that that again, where the motivation
tip lies here is that the point is that every day I try to do something that is making progress.
So progress and motivation go together.
Another way that I really, really stay motivated is books. Okay. We talked about podcasts. Podcasts,
podcasts really motivate the fuck out of me. I don't know about you, but they inspire me and they just,
they really kick my ass. So books also do the same thing for me. And I really, really find that
I feel the most successful in my life when I can end the day with a book. There's something about
taking 30 minutes to myself every single night, being done with the day, feeling good about the day,
laying my head down on the pillow, and reading a book. I read off my phone normally, but I turn the
background to black so it's not white because I find that the white hurts my eyes. Does anyone else feel
like that? Also, if I'm being really good that day, I'll wear blue light glasses, okay? I'm feeling
really good about myself if I'm wearing my blue light glasses in bed with like a good skin cream on.
You know, don't mean to brag, but like, that's an A plus situation.
Anyway, so I'm laying in bed.
I'm reading for at least 30 minutes a night.
Sometimes I can't sleep and it's longer.
It just depends.
And the books that I read are usually autobiographies.
There's something about reading about someone else's life and their history that really appeals to me.
I like to know why people are the way they are.
And it's just interesting to me.
So autobiographies are usually on the list currently reading Farrah Fawker.
POSET's autobiography. I became obsessed with her through Ryan O'Neill's autobiography, and then I read
Alana Stewart's. She's the wife of Rod Stewart's autobiography, and now I'm reading hers. And I just,
her life was really fascinating. So that's a fun autobiography. Now, if I want to really immerse myself
in knowledge, I'll read something like Robert Green's books. So it just depends how you're feeling,
but the point is, is reading about other people gets you outside yourself, which I think makes you
feel motivated. On the same token, though, and this is another tip, you don't want to be so focused on
other people that you're not focusing on your own shit. And let me give you an example. If you wake up
every morning and you scroll through Instagram, I don't think that that's setting a motivational
foundation to your day. You're not focusing on your own shit. You're looking at other people. It's
probably making you feel bad. Someone's in Bali. Someone's in, you know, Timbuktu, someone's on the moon.
someone had someone just had a baby whatever it is that's making you not feel the best is not motivating. So,
you know, I think it's really important that if you're trying to create more motivation in your life,
to really make sure that you're not just scrolling through Instagram or Facebook all the time. I find
that when I'm scrolling, I stop myself. It's not productive and it doesn't make me feel motivated.
So I would really, really recommend picking those five content creators. And I told you guys,
earlier and sticking with those five content creators. But choose wisely because who you're choosing
to consume every single day, even if it's two minutes a day, has an effect on you. If you're
consuming someone's content and she or he is not making you feel good, stop consuming it. Do what
you got to do. Block them. I don't care. I would get that toxicity out of my life. You know,
and like I said earlier, it's the five people that you hang around with. The five people's content
that you're consuming on a daily basis really does make a difference, I think, in the tone of your day.
The last thing I will say about how to stay motivated is to practice gratitude. And gratitude is,
you know, for me and my meditation, gratitude is taking a second out of the day and just, you know,
being grateful. Gratitude is reaching out to a friend and saying something kind in the middle of the
day or even calling a family member to check in to see how they're doing. Whatever that is,
I think that gratitude really gives you perspective.
And I think that gratitude also is a really important element of motivation.
Anyway, at the end of the day, being motivated, I think, is just shifting your perspective.
It's understanding that you have the ability to create your own future.

and I think that once you do that and you have a really clear vision and you've planned your
intentions out and set systems to get to those goals and you have your to-do list and, you know,
your meditation and whatever it is that gets you off, you will have a really, really nice basis for motivation.

You should also know too, just before we go, that motivation isn't everything. Like, it's just a piece of the pie. There's also other things like patience and execution and attitude and, you know, I could go on and on that make up the entire pie. But motivation is a big part of it. So make sure that you are refining it, concentrating on it. And most importantly, practicing on it. Nothing is perfect. Nothing happens overnight. For me, motivation's a practice. It's something I practice every day. It's something I think about every single day.
like I said, motivation is awesome, but if you're not executing, you're not going to continue to
stay motivated. So execute. And I feel like my next podcast should be on execution. What do you guys think?
