Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to the Bostics, starring Lauren Bostic and Michael Bostick. Together, they are the Bostics. We work out our body. Why are we not working out our face? That is an amazing question. Excellent question, because there's like this disconnect where people know that when you exercise your muscles, your body will respond. Like your muscles respond to exercise. And we have over 42 muscles in our feet.
Starting point is 00:00:34 face. So it makes sense that if you exercise the muscles of your face, you're going to build a strong, you know, a good framework for your face as well. But for some reason, there's this big disconnect. People think that when you exercise your face is just going to create wrinkles. And if you're doing it incorrectly, then maybe, but if you're doing it properly and you're combining it with facial manipulation, massage, lymphatic drainage techniques, it can make a massive difference and it can really build your facial structure. Well, we know now, because we've done a lot of shows on this, and there's a book by James Nestor in a bunch,
Starting point is 00:01:10 that obviously jaw strength in terms of, and then jaw placement, especially when you're young, when you're a child, chewing harder foods, you know, like as we used to and as we evolved, is helpful when you want to get that, like, forward jaw. Forward, yeah, forward growth. Where it's not that receded jaw because you want that forward growth. And we've seen now with, like, pouches and a lot of vegetables
Starting point is 00:01:31 and soft foods, have children's jaws receding that then later takes hold later in life and everyone's trying to do chin implants or nose jobs to fix that. But it's because they don't have the proper structure. That's exactly right. When you're not using your chewing muscles, then your muscles are going to atrophy. But we also have to remember that our bones take input from the muscles. So through a process called mechanotransduction, you place enough stress or enough force on a bone.
Starting point is 00:02:00 it's going to stimulate an electrical response, which stimulates more osteoblast, which are bone cells. And so during the developmental time, that's a really crucial time because that's what develops your bone structure. As you get older, if you're not maintaining that, then your structure is going to start to recede. It's going to start to shrink because your bones are not getting the signal from the muscles to stay strong. And so that's one of the great ways that we can maintain our facial structures, which is so important. I would say it's more important than wrinkles, then, you know, that can help you to keep your face looking young and youthful and radiant through the years. What I find so fascinating is I don't know if you know this, but I had double jaw surgery. When I was 25 years old, that's how I got into facial manipulation in the first place.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Like that's, I was like, oh, I feel like my lymphatic needs to be drained after the surgery. And I went and did it once and I was like, wait, this is amazing. And so I just became so into it. But after studying the face and the chin and the jaw, I've learned, and maybe you can speak on this, that it's also about the way you walk. So if you're walking duck feet, it starts with the feet. It's about the shoes that you wear. You want your toes to be barefoot as much as possible spread out.
Starting point is 00:03:18 I just bought these specific shoes for my kids that lets their feet spread out. It's about the chewing, to you guys' point. It's about the straws that you're, using. Even like we work with a myo-functional therapist with my kids and the straw that the cup that they're using is so important. And it's about also like breastfeeding. It's all these different elements that play into the jaw. Can you speak on that? Because I feel like you're the expert on it. Yeah. So the way I approach everything, every area of the phase is through the lens of five things. Structure, support, freedom, flow, and presence.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Now, when we talk about, like, structure, so for the jaw, that means your body posture, that means your tongue posture, that means how you hold your body. And your emotions play a really big role in that as well, because your emotions in your nervous system dictates how everything in your body moves and the posture and the way you hold yourself through life. And, you know, the thing that you said about the feet and the posture of the whole body, your fascia is connected from your head to your toe. So if something is pulling on the lower half of your body, it's going to have an effect on the rest of the body.
Starting point is 00:04:33 And this starts to shift everything in the face as well. And so your jaw, you know, we want that forward growth, right? And that happens mostly during the developmental time. And so then things like the straws and the pouches and like that, you're not using the muscles of your face. And so the maxilla bone, which is the beauty bone, this is the most important bone in the whole face. If it is not maintained, if it's not supported, then your jaw is going to start to all. also recede as well. And one of the things that I see with people who are on like GLPs and stuff like that, they're not chewing. And so they're not using their muscles enough because they're not eating as
Starting point is 00:05:09 much, right? They're just not as hungry. So they're not eating as much. And then what happens is their jaw starts to shrink. It starts to recede. And then they try to fix it by putting filler on top of it. And that's just not the answer. You have to remember that like the, if you think of the face and the facial structure like a king-sized mattress, right? And so like your mattress is your framework and the, you have a king-size fitted sheet over all that. That's your skin. But if you are not maintaining your structure through your posture, through tongue posture, through exercises, through using your muscles that stimulate the bones and that stimulate that forward growth for the jaw line, your bone structure is going to start to weaken. It's going to start to shrink. And your king-sized mattress has now turned
Starting point is 00:05:56 into a queen-sized mattress, but you still have a king-sized fitted sheet. And so that's what we're also seeing with the aging process as well. As people see wrinkles and they see folds and they see sagging skin and they think I have a skin issue, but it's actually a structural issue underneath. Wow. So what you're saying of all these people that are getting facelifts and Botox and filler is it's actually the structure underneath that people are trying to overcompensate for. Well, think about it in any instance, like just in other areas of your body as you age as bones or as things deteriorate, muscle deteriorates. To your point, if you look at your skin as the fitted sheet, if all those things deteriorate, you're going to see this manifest in a million different areas.
Starting point is 00:06:35 It's funny because I look through everything through the lens of like how we've evolved as animals as a species. And there's a reason you have teeth in your mouth, right? It's meant to grind things down, to chew and to be used, right? So like, I think to your point, if you stop using the, and there's other muscles in the face of it, but if you stop using these muscles in large part, you make it so easy from a delivery system, whether it's food or smoothies or pouches or whatever, then the body doesn't know to train that structure. It forgets, right. If I went to the gym and I never worked out biceps, then over time, your arms are going to get
Starting point is 00:07:09 smaller and smaller and your skin's going to sag down. Like, that's just what happens. So it makes a ton of sense what you're saying. Yeah, exactly. What do you think about mouth taping? I am obsessed with mouth taping. Thank you so much for making your mouth tape. It feels weird if I don't have it on at night.
Starting point is 00:07:22 It does so much, not just for. helping me to breathe through my nose, which we know has so many health benefits. But it also helps to encourage me to have better tongue posture. And that's something that I never had. No one ever told me growing up. No one, no dentist ever told me this was not in the YM magazines. Like you got to have tongue posture. Like I didn't know that literally till a few years ago. And since I have been really conscious of keeping my tongue glued to the roof of my mouth, I've seen major changes in my facial structure. I wish that I had known this during my developmental time because then I think my face would have a little bit more forward growth. I'd have a little bit more cheek lift. My jawline might be a little
Starting point is 00:08:02 bit stronger. But that time has passed. But I can maintain now by keeping my tongue up. And mouth tape at night is, I think, the best way that you can do that. I mean, while you're sleeping, you're asleep for hours. That's part of the day. You know, like this is a great opportunity to work on your jawline in and, and have all these other health benefits as well. I mean, we know that when you're breathing through your nose and not breathing through your mouth, it lowers your stress. So it lowers your inflammation. It helps to, you know, turn on different genes.
Starting point is 00:08:31 It helps to regulate your hormones. It affects every part of your life. Yeah. We had our son's tongue tie clipped when he was two weeks old. And it was, I want to be honest with everyone, it was brutal. It was so hard. However, we had to go to a specialty dentist, Dr. Pia Gandhi. She's been on the show.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Dr. Pia Gandhi, she's the best. Again, for people that don't know, it was all done with a medical professional and they do it for kids these days now. What are you talking about? I just use my, I just use my scissors. People think these, who knows what people think. Little pocket night. But I think she's on, and if you, I don't know if you are aware of her, that episode,
Starting point is 00:09:07 but she's on the forefront of like basically helping children. Yeah, I listened to that episode. She's fabulous. She's doing, and she's helping them. Because, I mean, it was total change for him, like right off the bat. And you could do it when you're young. I bet was so much better too. And to your point, like, it's, I mean, I guess you could do this as an adult and people are,
Starting point is 00:09:24 but it's so much harder to change. I'm like almost 40 years old. Like for me to try to go do that now, it's like, I've got 40 years of habits that aren't that. Right. But do you wear mouth tape because that'll help. I don't. And he has a, you do have a millimeter open. I will wear it.
Starting point is 00:09:36 I like wearing it. But I also don't, like I'm a nose breather. I have the opposite problem. My problem is I clench at night. So I'm shut. I hate to break it to you. It's a slightly open. But also the.
Starting point is 00:09:48 clenching could be because maybe if you are slightly open, it's stimulating a stress response, which then makes you clench. So it could be all connected. And, you know, I have other airway dentists that I follow, and they talk about this all the time that when you're, you know, asleep and your nasal breathing and your nose breathing, your body doesn't have these spikes of stress or cortisol, which is what makes you clench sometimes. Or maybe you just try it. I think it's great. I love doing it. I don't know, though. I'm just, if I'm being honest, I'm just not a mouth. There are other ways, though. There are other ways you could build your jawline for sure.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Like the posture, the muscular exercise, the fascia release. This is all part of it. I transformed my jawline before I even knew about having my tongue glued to the roof and my mouth. And now it's just amplified it. I've been trying to mog Carson for the last few days in here. If someone's listening and they're 30 plus and they want to transform their jawline like you've done, what are the things that they can do right now?
Starting point is 00:10:42 Stretch your body. That's 100% the first thing you want to do. you want to start making your body more flexible because when everything's tight in the neck or when you have tech neck, like you're constantly looking, I mean, we're always constantly looking down on our electronic devices. And so what happens is the muscles and the facial tissue that are attached from your collarbone to your jaw line. This is your pletisma tissue, your pletisma muscle. It becomes short. It becomes stiff. Because it's connected to your jaw line, it's going to start to pull it down. So the first thing you want to do is stretch your body, make everything flexible because everything's so connected. You want to focus on stretching your neck. And it doesn't just mean the front. It's the back to the whole. The neck is, I think, the most important part of your face. Everything starts in the neck.
Starting point is 00:11:27 You keep that flexible. You're going to start to see the changes right away. You start releasing the tension in the, this is an SCM muscle, the sternoclean mastoid muscle. The big one like right here. Yes. It goes all the way down. Correct.
Starting point is 00:11:38 Yeah. It goes down here. And what you can do is just kind of grab it like this. And it'll hurt. If you pinch it here and you might feel some tension, If that hurts, that means you're holding a lot of stress there that's pulling your jaw line down and messing with your facial alignment and your facial posture. And then you also want to stimulate your lymphatic system because you could just have a lot of fluid there that's making the jawline look puffy.
Starting point is 00:12:02 So if you fix your posture, you are releasing your fascia and you're also stimulating your lymphatic system. These are ways that you can approach aging from a natural perspective. They're slower methods, but they actually, in my opinion, end up working back. They're more effective over time. What if down here, like in the traps and then the oxyidels? Yes, you want to do everything. You want to make sure that it's, yeah, you want to make sure that it's all, I mean, it's all related.
Starting point is 00:12:27 If you're locked up here, that's causing stagnation in your lymphatic system, for sure. It's also starting to push your head forward. So then you're getting that, you know, the whole Pateezma muscle is becoming shortened. And you want to create that flexibility. It's all about flexibility. are other things that you would suggest someone does to improve their jawline? Fasher release and the whole face because, again, like, when everything's tight, it starts to lock up and then it starts to pull everything down. When our tissue, well, here's one way to think about it.
Starting point is 00:13:03 If you're seeing like folds and like deep lines, that's a structural issue. If you're seeing deep creases, like deep lines, that's a fascia issue. But the fascia. But the fascia also really helps to release all the things that are weighing it down. So fashion massage, you can just kind of manipulate the fascia here. And it might hurt. I mean, if you try it, it might hurt. Does it hurt? You know, I have a great girl, if anyone's looking for fascia release. Her name is Keita. And she's at the road and Desert Canary in C4. And she does fascia stretching. My dad works with her. And she like flosses you to stretch your fascia. Yeah, basically. And then I also love cranial sacral. I go to this woman. I started doing that too. She's amazing. So you like that. Oh, I love it. Okay. It's amazing. Yeah. I got really into it after my son's tongue tie got clipped and I saw the tongue tie release mixed with the cranial sacral was amazing. And then I also just feel like looking and you can do this online for free on YouTube, looking at the myo functional therapy for kids like teaching. them to click and like I see you do it all the time. The workouts for your tongue. Talk about that. The workouts for the tongue. So again, anytime you're using your muscles, it's going to, it's going to strengthen the bones of your face. But specifically when you have your
Starting point is 00:14:28 tongue pressed against the roof of your mouth, it is creating that upward support, that upward pressure on the maxillobone, which then keeps everything high. In fact, a lot of times when people have hollow under eyes, it's really just because they've lost the support. The bones appear on the face are starting to fall downward because the midface bone has collapsed. And that's because we don't have that proper tongue posture. So the exercises can really help to structure the whole face just because of the muscular activity. But the tongue posture, keeping it up on the roof of the mouth, will keep everything lifted as well.
Starting point is 00:15:02 It's like your internal retainer. It keeps everything on your face lifted. I almost feel like when I talk to you, I want to go like this because I don't, I feel like, You guys are fine. You probably can, but I mean, I imagine doing what you do, you can see structural issues in people's faces just in general. Unfortunately, no, unfortunately, it's like I will walk around and I can, I can look at people and I'm like, okay, you're a mouth breather.
Starting point is 00:15:29 You need to do lymphatic drainage. You need to do facial manipulation. You're holding tension here. What am I need to do? You don't need to do anything. No, I don't feel like I need to drain my neck. Come on. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:40 If you're not massaging your neck, do this. that because that will sharpen your jaw line more. Back to your question about the jaw line. Okay. The neck. On that note, you want you more of a neck massage? From the lens that you see people's faces, are there things that you can see going on in people's faces that indicate other issues in other areas of the body?
Starting point is 00:15:57 Oh, yes. Your face tells the story of your life and how you've been moving through life. So when I, you know, mentioned that the deep creases and wrinkles are actually like a forehead, for sure. Right. And some people are just forehead talkers. I'm a forehead talker. You know, I'm also,
Starting point is 00:16:13 forehead talker. Well, that and I'm expressed. Yeah, I'm expression. Right. You're, I move the eyes. Some people are, some people aren't. But I also read a lot. So I see myself like going as my eye because I, I can teach you a trick to help with that.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Yeah. I need all the tricks. But no, okay, so you can, you can pick on me. I don't mind. But if you see someone with that, how have I been moving through life? Well, well, physically, you probably need to release tension in your neck and your scalp. Yes, I was just going to say, don't we need to move the scalp? Yes, because everything's connected.
Starting point is 00:16:41 A lot of times when people are. have deep forehead wrinkles, it's because their scalp and their neck are really tense. Everything, again, is connected. So if you release the, you know, I mean the whole body, but if you start with just the neck and you also, you know, do a lot of scalp massage, create movement, healthy movement in these areas of the body, then you won't have this sort of like, it's not like dead tissue, but it's not really functioning, right? And so it creates like this hard stop here at the forehead. And then when you're expressive, when you're using that muscle, it starts to get stuck there, right?
Starting point is 00:17:12 And so you have to know what is a wrinkle, right? People should watch this on video too if you're because she's showing. So a wrinkle is basically, and these are different from folds, but a wrinkle is repetitive muscle movement because of your expressions, because of the emotions, because of your nervous system. So that impacts how your muscles move. And then the state of your fascia as well. And your nervous system also dictates how your fascia behaves. When your fascia becomes sticky, when it becomes hard, when it becomes dehydrated, because you're not moving it or just, the accumulation of stress, you're not sleeping, or just life in general, right? As we get older,
Starting point is 00:17:46 we start to see more of those lines. That's because we've accumulated more energies. And so our fascia basically starts to, it sort of takes on the impressions that the muscles are creating. So you have that muscular movement. It's creating the impression. And then the fascia is holding that impression. It's holding the skin in the formation of that wrinkle. And so that's really what those deep creases are. If you release the fascia, then you'll start to see those wrinkles start to soften. You release some of the other structures, the surrounding structures that support the forehead,
Starting point is 00:18:22 then you're going to start to also see those soften. You start relaxing through life and processing things in a different way. Then you're not going to hold those energies in your body, which are then creating the wrinkles in your face. You practice these muscular movements or reprogramming how you express yourself, then the muscles will not activate in that way anymore. It sounds like you really, should ask masseuses to release your scalp. That's what I would start with. But when I massage my scalp,
Starting point is 00:18:49 this is so niche. I never pull back. I pull forward because I don't want traction. Oh, I do both. You do both. I do both. Yeah. And I noticed your hair is very long. And I'm going to say this so you don't have to so the internet doesn't go wild. I think that scalp massage grows your hair. 100%. Is that why your hair's long? Well, I mean, there's probably a lot of reasons. But if you, I always look at things. Yes, little holistic and I'm a little woo-woo like you sometimes. But I also have a scientific mind. I used to be a nurse. And so things need to make sense to me. And so I used to be an esthetician and I was a laser technician. The way you get rid of, you know, with laser hair removal, the way you kill a hair route is the laser will target where the blood supply is. And once that
Starting point is 00:19:34 blood supply is cut off, your hair dies. So if you do the opposite and if you stimulate more circulation to your hair follicles, then it's going to help to stimulate the growth of your hair. I have a friend who's bald and he told me that he hates massage and hates touch and he hates to do his own massage. And I was like, that's why you're bald. Because you don't, I'm not calling him out. He doesn't like to be touched by anyone and he doesn't like to touch and massage himself. I'm like, you need to get massaging on that scalp. Well, if he's like fully bald, it might be a different, there might be some different reasons. But if it's someone who's starting to bald, then that is, you're in a constant state of stress
Starting point is 00:20:16 because when you're stressed out, all of your blood supply goes to your vital organs. Don't stress, Michael. You don't want to go bald. So again, when there's not that circulation to those hair follicles, your hair is going to start falling out. Also, that's, you know, is a whole cascade of hormonal issues as well. But yeah, that person probably needs to do some physical manipulation and stimulation for the scout but also figuring out what in their life is causing that stress where they're in a
Starting point is 00:20:43 constant state of holding. Have you ever seen that meme where it's like, like it says, it says trying not to be stressed. And then it's like the wife behind the guy and it says my stress telling me not to be stressed. That's like, that's what I was just thinking as you're saying that. Like I'm not, I'm not going through. Every time he's stressful now, I'm going to be like, you're going to go bald. Wait, so one of my favorite memes, I don't know if you've seen this one. it's an empty toilet paper roll. So it's like a brown toilet paper roll. And he's talking to all of these like full toilet paper rolls.
Starting point is 00:21:14 And he says, your lives will continue to stink until you find your center. And so I always remember that. I'm like, okay, just work on your center, work on yourself. And actually like you're going to age more beautifully when you do that. There's this, I mean, it's a huge component. And it's a huge missing piece of the puzzle. I think a lot of people are missing it from in their lives, especially now when there's so much distraction, there's so much comparison, there's so much pointing,
Starting point is 00:21:39 you know, I want this, I want that. And it's like not enough introspective reflection and processing. And really, I think that is the root of aging. Well, that's, we could do a whole thing on on that. On that note, there's, we were talking in prep before having you on and we were talking about just, you know, there's almost like two camps a little bit when it comes to this. There's the, there's the one camp that's more preventative. Maybe they're doing this stuff we're talking about. Maybe they're doing injections. Maybe they're doing procedures.
Starting point is 00:22:11 And then, you know, maybe they're doing makeup, whatever they're doing. And then there's the other side, which is like, hey, I'm just going to age how I age. Don't want to wear makeup. Don't really care. I don't want to be vain like that. At least that's a person. And again, to each their own. When you think about aging in general and being a, you know, in general.
Starting point is 00:22:30 you know, injector previously. And I know you mentioned off-air that you're, you're not necessarily for or against. Like, if you could prescribe to the world, like, kind of like the blueprint or the right way you think people should be aging or thinking about aging when it comes to their facial aesthetics, like, how, what do you, what do you tell your, your clients? I try to be very honest with them. And I say, listen, I'm not anti-injection. I know a lot of people think that I am because I left injections. But I'm not anti-injection. I think it's a wonderful tool when it's used intelligently and when it's not overdone. And so if I was going to give someone a prescription for how to age, I would say, listen,
Starting point is 00:23:12 this is the foundation. You need to manipulate your tissue. You need to, when you look at your face, I want you to look at your bone structure. That should be the first thing before your skin. You need to look at your bone structure and assess that. We're going to work on your bone structure. we're going to work on your facial exercise to keep you strong. And it's not just keeping the face strong. When it comes to the muscles of the face, it's about finding balance because some muscles are overworked. You need to relax that and you need to release that. So it's about finding muscle balance. You need to work with your lymphatic system daily. You need to work on your posture. You need to stretch your body. There are different like tools that you can use as well that can facilitate that.
Starting point is 00:23:54 And you need to work on yourself. And after you've done that, all that, if you want to go get that little judge, you call it, judge. You want to get a little judge, you get that little judge if you want. But there's a different feeling when you're doing it yourself. And I always like to use this mountain analogy of like you're climbing up this mountain. You have your beauty goals up at the top, right? And you're trying to get there. Now, you could be helicoptered up to the top.
Starting point is 00:24:23 Okay, so we're talking just using injections and surgery as your method, right? you're being helicoptered up to the top, and the view is going to be beautiful. It's going to be great. But then you're going to move on with your day, and they're going to find the next thing that you want to, the next thing you want to tackle. Versus if you're someone who is climbing up that mountain and it's a struggle and, you know, you're out of breath. You're working really hard. As you're going up this mountain, you start getting hot, things start getting heavy, you start getting rid of things. You start releasing things. You start letting go. And the triumph that you feel when you get to the top of that mountain, it far, I mean, it's just a completely different feeling of triumph and confidence that
Starting point is 00:25:05 you have built now within yourself that the view is not only beautiful, but you now know that you can do anything. It's a completely different feeling. And so I would say that needs to be the foundation, is working on your structure, working on the movement of your face. And then every once in a while you want to get a little help, you can get a little help. Get a little help up that mountain. But don't rely on it as your soul system. I also think, and feel free to call me out, if you are going to do Botox or filler, you have to get facial massage.
Starting point is 00:25:38 Because when you let that stuff sit in your face stagnant, you can see it. And your lymphatic system doesn't get it out. Right. Not get it out. Maybe metabolize is the right word. Yes. Yeah. So I think it's pretty mainstream now that people know that you can't use filler for a long-term plan.
Starting point is 00:26:02 At least I'm seeing that a lot on the internet, that people are becoming more aware, that this is not something you can do forever, right? Like the prescription would be like you do the filler, the filler, the filler until you need the surgery. And that's because the filler can get stuck. in the face, like you said, it's a semi-permanent product that you put in the face. We used to think that it just completely dissolved, but now we know that it doesn't. Through like MRI scans and imaging, you can see that the filler doesn't ever fully dissolve. And if you're not working with
Starting point is 00:26:34 your lymphatic system, if you're not manipulating the fascia and your fascia holds a lot of water and it holds a lot of inflammation, holds a lot of our issues too, right? Our tissues hold our issues. And if you're not releasing all of that, then yes, the filler is going to get stuck in the face and then it accumulates more water. And when that happens, it doesn't even matter how well the filler was placed. It doesn't matter if you have the best injector. It will start to look, you'll start to see that pillow face appearance where the filler is just stuck in the face and it can't get out. There's nowhere to go. People are saying that it also travel with gravity travels down and you get that like jowel with the jowls. Yeah, if you're getting enough. I would
Starting point is 00:27:14 say to go back to your question about the prescription, like here's what I tell my friends. Like, if you're going to do filler, do it once or twice in your life and then stop and then use facial manipulation. And you can actually shape some of that filler back into place and just keep your framework nice and strong and sculpted. And, you know, you won't necessarily need, maybe you'll go back in five years and do a little bit here or there, just, you know, a little help. But not to make that your system. So let's focus in on the thing that makes everything else you do actually pay off, and that's your gut health. But here's the problem.
Starting point is 00:31:42 The probiotic you're taking is probably dead before it ever reaches your gut, because most brands on the market can't survive your stomach acid. And if a probiotic can't arrive in your gut alive, it can't do much good. You're just wasting your money and you're not getting the benefit that you're hoping for. The Just Drive probiotic is different and it's been a non-negotiable in our routine for years. Now, ever since we had the founders of Just Thrive on this show, which they have been on now multiple times, we have not looked back. And that's because they use four spore-based strains that actually survive digestion

Fall Means, new backpacks, pumpkin spice, and the dreaded call from the school nurse that you need to come pick up your kid early from school due to sick reasons, due to this reason,
Starting point is 00:33:01 due to that reason. This is a total disaster for parents and families. That's exactly why I love Haya and include it in our daily routine as parents. It's quick. It's easy. It pairs great with breakfast or the car ride to school and helps us brace for the onslaught of sick season. There is nothing worse as a parent when your kid gets sick and you feel terrible for them, but you're also getting sick yourself. And this is why we love high eye. It gives these kids a fighting chance their bodies need. What we've done in our family is we've
Starting point is 00:33:23 made this a part of our routine in the mornings. When we're taking our supplements, they're taking theirs. They actually look forward to it. They ask for it. And they're incredible because they've worked alongside pediatricians and nutrition scientists to create a powerful chewable multivitamin that packs a blend of 12 organic fruits and vegetables plus 15 essential vitamins and minerals into every chewable. We're talking things like vitamin D, B12, C, zinc, folate, all of the foundational nutrients that support immune health and the rapid growth kids go through. And if bedtime battles and restless nights are keeping you and your kids up in night,
Starting point is 00:33:51 adding a magnesium-based vitamin might be the key. Highest kids' vitamin essentials is a total game changer. It's not a sleep aid. It's a non-habit-forming chewable with L-theonine, B6, Gaba, and chamomile flour extract, plus magnesium and calcium that helps kids relax before bed so they can wake up, rejuvenated, and refreshed. No synthetic hormones like melatonin. Just calm support to help them recharge for everything they've got going on. So check them out. We've worked out a special deal with Haya. Go to H-I-Y-A-H-E-A-L-T-H-H-E-L-T-H-C-L-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-Skyny, and get your kids the full-body support they deserve. Again, call me out if you don't agree. You don't want to use filler to fix a structural problem. Exactly. So if I was advising someone on filler, like for me, I like a little bit in my lips. The lips isn't really structural. If I was trying to make a full jaw line out of the filler, I think you can get in trouble with that because it can almost look like there's an overcompensation going on and you're overcompensating for the structure instead of addressing that. Exactly. Well, I don't have personal. I don't know about this. so I'm going to butcher this.
Starting point is 00:35:00 But every time someone comes on and talks about filler and they say people do it in their eyes, it freaks me to fuck out because I just freaks me about the eyes. And also I feel like pushes your eye closed. It just scares me. It's very obvious when people have had it around their eyes. There's like a pressed up look. But to your point earlier, if somebody's got those like sunken eye or the hollow eye look, there's things you can do structurally to combat that.
Starting point is 00:35:22 Is that what you were saying? Yeah. So if you build up the or if you at least support the maxilla bone, that beauty bone, the midface bone, that is the bone that supports the under eyes. And so if you can do certain exercises that will help. Show us a couple. You better go on you two. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:35:39 Okay, so place your tongue to just the tip of your upper lip and now smile, but don't crease around here. Mm-hmm. So you're creasing a little here. I do it. Mm-hmm. It's all about the control. Don't be asking for me to do these exercises later. On the way up in the elevator, I took a hanger with her jacket on it.
Starting point is 00:35:59 I hung it on my tongue. That was a girl. My daughter and my son do this with their myofascia person. What, that one? Rosie. Yeah, they do. They like learned all these exercises that you're doing. Keep going. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Okay, so another one. This is one of my favorite ones that I made up. And I love it. It works so well. Okay, so you push for anyone who's listening. You push your tongue into your bottom lip. You cover your top teeth with your top lip. And then you kind of smile.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Let your cheeks do the smiling for you. and then move your tongue side to side. I probably look like a freak on the camera. Actually, don't watch this part of people. I don't want to see it. Okay. And so this will not on, the muscles itself, the muscles themselves will build more scaffolding in your face, right?
Starting point is 00:36:44 Because when you exercise the muscles, they will respond to exercise. They will become stronger. And the face is a really unique area of the body where the muscles in the skin are directly attached to each other. So where the muscles go, the skin goes to. So you're building that scaffolding in the face. But at the same time, remember,
Starting point is 00:36:58 you're telling the bones, you're signaling to the bones to produce more of those bone cells so that it stays nice and strong. And so when you do that, it can help with the formation of those hollow under eyes to keep them more lifted and supported. But you also want to manipulate the fascia because things are getting stuck. And so a lot of times when you have this line that goes down right here, it's just that connective tissue webbing that is basically stuck to your bones. And so you want to create space within that tissue. When you do that, you'll have more blood flow. You'll have more lymphatic flow moving through. It helps to plump the area.
Starting point is 00:37:32 It just helps everything to repair, right? And so you'll start to see, you know, that that starts to go away. Your cheeks are going to be more lifted. And these are all subtle things. But that's what you're doing with injections too. You're going for the subtle look. And so a lot of like pushback I get from people is, you know, oh, this doesn't work. Or, you know, it's like this is silly.
Starting point is 00:37:53 It takes time. It takes time. You've got to do it every day. I massage my face every day. And that's the thing. You have to turn it into a practice. You have to turn it into a ritual. But it's like me getting down on the floor right now and doing four pushups and then getting up and saying that didn't work out. Right. Yeah. I don't have muscles yet. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Exactly. I mean, anything, like, this is with anything. It's like, I think the problem is, is we live in a time and in a society and in a culture now where we prioritize comfort and convenience over everything. We want the easy straw. We want the quick pouch. We want the quick shot. We want the quick workout. We want the thing that's going to give us the 15 minute at. Like,
Starting point is 00:38:33 I, I, it's hard to, it's hard to find things these days that we're not trying to find a short cut through. Right. Right. And I think so to your point, like, if you have a lifetime of something that is maybe trending in the wrong direction from a facial structure perspective, like, yeah, you're not going to solve that with a few facial exercises in one day. Right. Your face will adapt to what you do continuously, not to what you do occasionally. So that's why it's so important that. It's, you're, I mean, it's just like working out, like you go to the gym and you work out, and you're going to eventually start to see those changes in your body. People need to be a little bit more patient with this practice, and they need to give, they need to give themselves some grace. You know,
Starting point is 00:39:10 it is something that you, you know, it's not just, okay, I'm transforming my face. Like, there's a deep inner transformation that happens at the same time. When you feel like you are an active participant in your aging process, when it feels like you're part of it and you're doing it, there's just a you have a little bit more empowerment. You just feel more confident. And, you know, to me, confidence is, it's not just looking in the mirror and loving what you see. Yes, that's part of it. But to me, confidence is being able to look in the mirror and see all your flaws and see all your vulnerabilities and see what you're working towards and still decide to choose yourself and still decide to love yourself unconditionally. I mean, that's, I mean, that's really what these practice
Starting point is 00:39:55 are all about. It's not just the physical transformation. There's something deep within you that's found on the way. I have done a lot of the things that you're talking about. I'm working on my posture right now. I'm working on with the mouth taping. I'm doing the exercises. I'm doing facial manipulation. And you're right. It's not just about the way you look. It's an alignment within self. It makes you feel harmonious inside. And it's just taking little minutes where you can find them to get something in for yourself. It's kind of like a self-care. For me, I just want to mug Carson and just... You're saying mug is a lot for me. I listen to that episode. I know what you're talking about now.
Starting point is 00:40:34 Listen, I'm trying to, I'm trying to mug over here. All the other spiritual stuff, whatever. I'm mocking you, Carson. I'm going to be doing these tongue exercises. You'll see me. What about airway expansion? This has been something that we've talked about a lot on the show. I would love to know your opinion on expanding the airway. Well, your tongue posture will do that. It will help, yes, it will help to widen your palate. So not with a tool? No. I mean, I've never used any of those mouth tools. I think you can do it all with just your posture and just your tongue exercises. And I've seen it. I haven't measured my own palate, but like I've seen it in my face that things have changed and things have shifted. Like even. Same with me with proper tongue posture. I've seen that too. I can attest to that. It's huge. Have you seen a bunch of people that you work with, the transformations? Yes. Yes, yes. People always say, I've been doing this now. And it does, again, it takes time. And it's
Starting point is 00:41:26 something, the tongue posture is something that you do have to become really conscious about. Like, I, when I first started doing it and practicing it, I was like, I'm going to do this all out. And I would wake up in the middle of the night and be like, I'm the same way right now. I can call it the Mona Lisa smile. I'm feeling a little OCD about it. It's like all day long, I'm correcting my tongue posture. Well, okay. By the way, it's not just expanding your palate and fixing your jaw line, you're also at the same time lifting the double chin. It's changing the whole area because you're engaging the muscle, right? So it's lifting this muscle. And anytime you exercise or stretch a muscle, it stimulates your lymphatic system as well. So you're moving lymph
Starting point is 00:42:08 at the same time that you're keeping your tongue glued up there. I have been mewing. Is that what you call it's called? Okay, I've been mewing. I've tried to interview Dr. Mewo if you're listening. I've been mewing for. He's the expert. Yeah. Yeah. Get on board. I never do that. I knew mewing. I didn't know there was a doctor mew. You should be mewing. I'm going to start screaming mewing across the kitchen. I have been mewing for two years and I notice a difference
Starting point is 00:42:31 in my facial structure. And by the way, this also includes mouth taping at night because when I use my mouth tape, this is again niche. I don't just like put it on. I kind of do a little tiny pull up to really support the tongue and I will
Starting point is 00:42:47 wake up in the middle of the night and mew too. I know exactly what you're talking about. You wake up in your conscious of it. No one had this conversation with me. I feel validated. I'm like, I have to stick my tongue up there. I actually started using face tape as well on my face and it's like an extension of your mouth tape. And so, and that it doesn't just lift the corners here, but it also separates the skin tissue slightly as it lifts up on the face and that allows more blood flow and lymph to move through your skin while you're sleeping. Love. And you wake up less puffy. And also I think that When you tape your face, and I've been doing this with this thing called zygot tape.
Starting point is 00:43:24 Yeah. It also is holding up the tongue slightly. Exactly. It promotes. A lot of people, this is maybe niche. You know. No, it, no, but you're absolutely onto something. It promotes better tongue posture.
Starting point is 00:43:37 It, like, it just encourages that extra lift. It, because it lifts the cheeks, right? And so when you lift the cheeks and lift the jaw, your tongue automatically just kind of goes up there. No, but to me, the point of a lot of this is people are. doing, whether it's injections or procedures or surgeries, to try to accomplish a lot of the facial structure that you're talking about. And what you're potentially saying is that you can get halfway, if not the full way there, by doing some of these things that just take longer but are more natural approaches. Exactly. Right. So it's like, and within that, it's not just about the
Starting point is 00:44:11 aesthetic. It's like proper tongue posture and jaw structure is going to get nasal breathing and it's going to help with your fascia and it's going to help with your nervous system and your posture and all that. It makes sense to me. You want to know something I regret? Pulling my wisdom teeth out. Me too. I'm on a mission. Do not pull your wisdom teeth out until you do your own research on it.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Why did they make us do that by the way? Why do they make us do that? It's an old dentistry protocol where they pull the wisdom teeth because there's not enough room instead of allowing the child's mouth to grow and because you're still developing, right? Our bodies are still developing to what? We're like 25. I remember they pulled mine when I was like, nope.
Starting point is 00:44:48 They pulled mine when I was a kid and I regret it so much because now it's like there's less space. There's less structure and support. And so now, you know, it's like my face is thinner. And so I'm happy, you know, I have the queen size mattress with the king size fit a sheet happening because the structure starts to shrink when you take those teeth out. My thing is also it has to do with money. Why are we removing our wisdom teeth? Look into that. Right.
Starting point is 00:45:12 And also to your point, it supports the face. Why would we take something out that's? supports the face. It's a little like adenoids and tonsils where it's like, oh, just remove them. Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, I want to know why. I want to know what's happening in my body that you need them removed. I think before you get anything removed, you should have a hundred questions. Well, what's strange, too, is like, if you think about, again, like, I'll go back to like evolution. Like, if they are there for a reason, they come into your face for a reason, right? Like, it's strange that not to, you know, not to be super religious, but if you just think about like a God or God,
Starting point is 00:45:46 like why would that be in your body if it was meant to be removed right are you getting woo? I'm not being woo-huh I'm just but I'm looking at it I'm looking at it from your perspective like I'm a little I get scientific with this stuff too and I'm like well if it's not supposed to be there why is it growing there in the first place because I guarantee we didn't evolve with people just ripping their teeth out of their face and also the cavemen had a great wide palette and a wide smile I hate to break it amazing jaw there was no receding jaw in cavemen yes cavemen were chewing they were spitting they were spitting they were spitting they were spitting they were using those wisdom teeth to do all kinds of things. I'm just saying as the as uh evolution has happened, the jaw has gotten weaker and weaker and weaker. We need to start asking questions about the why behind that. Exactly. Yeah. I 100% agree. And I about the wisdom teeth like I totally regret it. But like you don't know when you're a kid. You know, you're just like, okay. I thought I was checking something off my to do list. I was like, oh like no, I know. I know people online have been talking about the wisdom teeth for a while now. What happens is people start doing things. And then it becomes
Starting point is 00:46:46 normal over a long period of time. I don't know how long we've been taking whiz and teeth out, 30, 40 years, maybe shorter, I don't know, longer. And because we've been doing it now for a long time, people just assume that it should be done, right? There's a lot of things like that, right? And then if you start to say, like, why the hell are we doing that? People get real touchy about that kind of stuff. Yeah, especially the establishments. Yeah, they get real touchy about it. But again, like, I just think it's, um,
Starting point is 00:47:09 it's not that strange to wonder about these kind of things. But I think also, like, injections are becoming that too. sure no people are starting to now say wait should we be doing that filler for sure I was going to ask you like we you know we have we've gone back and forth on I personally haven't done Botox in a long time because I got a little bit shaken by just some of the things people are saying I don't think you should okay well because you have you have sort of deeper set eyes and you have a very strong brow if you were to get Botox it could it can make your brow look a lot heavier for sure that that is one thing like I realize that I did not look good with Botox. That was one of my, that was one of my first epiphanies. And I was wondering, why do I look so, like, this doesn't look good on me. It doesn't look good on everybody. Not everybody is a good candidate for it. Some people wear it really well. Some people, it just, it just doesn't work. They have deeper set eyes. They have Asian eyes. They have, you know, heavy brow, whatever it is. And so what will happen is when you relax that muscle
Starting point is 00:48:05 with the toxin, it will drop your brow. Ever so slightly, even if it's so, so subtle. A millimeter makes a huge, huge difference. A millimeter makes a huge difference. difference. Yeah, and even we had Dr. Terry Debrough on here, and we don't have to talk about me too much, but he was saying, listen, I'm happy to talk about me. Everybody knows that. But he was saying for my face shape, like he doesn't like it either and he doesn't like even like a procedure for me. No, some people would disagree with that, but he was saying for the same reasons you're saying, like basically my brow. We don't need a weird procedure for you. We're good. You guys know I'm all about building a strong foundation when it comes to wellness. I'm
Starting point is 00:48:44 I'm consistent with strength training, prioritizing sleep, eating high-quality protein, and I'm always looking for simple habits that actually move the needle. Starting point is 00:49:47 Do you need a moisturizer that hydrates and plumps? I know that I want something that's rich and cushiony. So Interpolis choice peptide-intensive moisturizer. Peptides are all the rage. And this one's powered by a three-time pro-cologen peptide complex.

I woke up and my skin was like ready to go for makeup, which is wild because normally I have to like put a bunch of skincare on before I put on makeup. You get like that beautiful, glossy texture. It's like rich and cushiony like I like. So if you're looking for a moisturizer and you want to upgrade, this one is a really good one to try.

I don't think, I really don't think, first of all, I think men look great with wrinkles. That's just my personal opinion. Well, good, because I have them. But, you know, if we're going to pick on you a little bit, like I said, the scalp, the neck release will help to relax the tension that you might be holding in your, in your
Starting point is 00:52:41 forehead, but also muscle release, fascia release. Fasher release within those deep lines will help to smooth them and soften them so that you can still be expressive, but then when you're at rest, they will be softer. I think you should use my fascia ball. I have that fashion ball. Yes, that would help. Use that. I just bought it. I'll link this in the show notes. It's like a fascia ball that has little spikes on it. Yeah, perfect. You can roll it on your neck and then you should use my red light brush massager. So why also, you have a guiseaw that has a hairbrush in it. So, Quickly, so why? You should get that guisha. We can move off from me, but so why do you not like Botox anymore? Is it just saying for you, you don't like it? So, well, this is going to take me down a hole. Don't rabbit hole. So I use, I'm not anti-injection. I think they're great when they're used as a tool. But I sort of started to realize that I no longer wanted to create the illusion of vitality. I wanted to help women build.
Starting point is 00:53:41 it instead. Cool. And there were things that I started to notice being in the industry that I just couldn't unsee anymore. I think that when injections and surgery are not used intelligently, that they actually weaken us as humans. Physically and spiritually, they weaken us. Physically because of the structure of the face, right, when your facial structure will continue to weaken, the more you ignore it. So if you're not exercising your face, you're not manipulating, you're not doing any sort of touch, then things are going to start to recede. They're going to shrink. You're going to see that king-size-fitted sheet happen. But spiritually, I also just think that, and again, this is just like, this is more of a provocative point of view. I'm generalizing here.
Starting point is 00:54:26 But it allows you to bypass healing the very thing that put those wrinkles there on the first place, right? That put them there on your face in the first place. And I could not perpetuate, people down that path anymore. I saw that people were dependent on me. So it was leading into, you know, dependence culture. I saw that people were getting their confidence from me when they should have been getting it from themselves. They were outsourcing their care. And really what I saw was that I was fixing and patching faces back up without helping people heal. And that was one of the reasons why I left the hospital. I saw I was doing the same thing as a nurse. I was putting, you know, band-aids on people. and I wasn't doing what I wanted to do, which was to help people heal and elevate them.
Starting point is 00:55:09 And so I started learning about the face. I was still injecting at the time and I started learning about the muscles, the bones, the fascia, the lymph, the skin, the nervous system, how all of that comes together. And I started to just realize that, you know, I couldn't, I couldn't do that anymore. Like, it just didn't sit well with me. And so I started to work on myself. I started using some of these methods that I was learning and figuring, out because I had my background as a nurse and a background as an injector and a background as an ascetician touching thousands of faces a day so I knew how things would respond. And I stopped
Starting point is 00:55:46 and my clients started to notice and they started to say like, I noticed that your forehead is moving. And it was moving the last time. I was here four months ago. Like what's, you know, curious, what's going on? And I was like, well, you know, it didn't really look good on me. You know, it's interrupting the functioning on my face and I'm learning how the lymphatic system. can actually get backed up when you inject the forehead. And so I was getting puffy and it just didn't look right on me. So I was sort of educating them on that. But then they wanted to know more.
Starting point is 00:56:13 And they were like, how can I do the same thing? Because like, you know, I'm coming in here every four months and like I'm, you know, getting these injections and I'm just still like really unhappy. Like I'm happy with your work, but like I'm just not happy. Like I still am seeing things in my face that I'm just like always trying to correct. So I started teaching them my methods, the, you know, the massage and the on the forehead. You know, we're talking about the forehead here because that's like the main area that people get injected. I was teaching them how to reprogram their expression so that they weren't always forehead talking.
Starting point is 00:56:44 And so they were, you know, softening the lines that way. And I said, listen, this is what you're going to do. Instead of coming back in four months, I want you to come back in six months. And I want you to do these exercises and I want to see, you know, let's see where you're at. And some people would come back and they would say, you know, wow, that was amazing. I was able to prolong my Botox appointment. And I feel great, but let's, let's do it again because now I can, I only have to do Botox once a year and I feel so much better about that. Like, I'm actually doing something myself. And then I had
Starting point is 00:57:15 some people come in and say, I'm not even really sure why I'm here. I'm here because you told me to come, but like, with these exercises that you taught me and because I feel so much more empowered in, you know, in doing them, I don't even think I want this anymore. It has no more lure on me. Like I'm not, I don't, I feel like I don't need this. And so that's when I realized that I had something. It felt like a full body yes for me. When people started saying that, you know, they're not just saying like, I see, you know, the physical transformation.
Starting point is 00:57:44 They're saying like, I feel free. I feel like I have this freedom now. And, you know, that's kind of when I knew, okay, I kind of need to step away from injections. And this is how I want to help lift people. Like a facelift can lift someone's face, but like this was lifting people in a completely different way. It's so cool. It's so cool how you got involved in this.
Starting point is 00:58:03 Before you go, you mentioned introspection earlier. I would love to know how you get introspective. I hang out in my body a lot. I don't, I don't, I'm not like a real social person. I mean, I'm social. I'm kind of, you know, I'm kind of a chameleon, but like where I like to hang out is inside. Um, so I do that a lot. I love sound. Uh, I think sound and frequency just totally grounds me. It's a huge part of my practice. I turn it on every time I'm doing my facial manipulation. What do you what's the playlist? Oh, I have, I have, I have a few. You got to message me the playlist. I will. I will. Can we, we put it in the show notes. Oh yeah. Yeah. You should make like a beauty shaman playlist. I have. I've, you know, I've linked it for people. I hope they're listening to it because it has, it is so amazing. Is it sound amazing? Um, no, it takes you on a journey of, of your, like, emotions. Um, it opens your heart. And so more energy can kind of flow through you. So,
Starting point is 00:59:03 So, and that to me is really important because when your heart is open and when energy is moving through you, things don't get stuck because things get stuck in your body and in your fascia. And as we know, that leads to wrinkles and aging. You're doing the, to be introspective, you're doing the facial manipulation while listening to the frequency. Yeah. Yeah. So it's meditative.
Starting point is 00:59:22 Yeah. It's like a movement meditation. Like I'm, I'm releasing the tension in the muscles. I'm releasing the fascia, which is, you know, such an, that's probably the most important part. and then I'm, you know, doing my lymphatic drainage. But I'm also looking in the mirror and I'm like checking in with myself. And when I have those doubts, like the three questions I always ask myself when I'm starting to feel like ugly or feeling like disconnected for myself, you know, I just say, okay, instead of
Starting point is 00:59:48 instead of looking in the mirror and saying like what is happening to my face, I like think to myself instead, like, what am I carrying that needs to be released? Or instead of asking myself, how can I stop aging? I start asking myself, how do I want to age? Or instead of asking, how do I preserve my youth? I think to myself, like, who do I want to become? And that changes my vibration in a way that, and I really think that when you go to sleep, that's the start of your day.
Starting point is 01:00:20 And so I'm really big on doing nighttime rituals because that's a time to become introspective. And I turn on my sound and I look in the mirror and I touch my face. And even just that touch, our hands are so healing. We're not just doing the physical transformation. It's something energetic that is happening in our bodies when we do that. And when you do that consistently, you start to change in ways that you never knew were possible. And now you're not going to look at me weird when I do my facial exercises and my facial massage every day. You're going to understand.
Starting point is 01:00:53 No, I never looked at you weird. Should I teach you guys a few that you can do together? Yeah, show us. I don't know. We have to do everything. Well, okay, we can do it. No, we don't have to do it together. Well, you could check on him.
Starting point is 01:01:03 I do this with my husband all the time. Okay. So, like, the first one, low O. Mm-hmm. And you relax here. So, so right now you're going like this. He's seen this face before. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:15 I have. Oh, sort of having flashbacks. Almost took me to it. Low O. Okay. Okay. Bring your mouth down and bring your forehead up. So place your hand on your forehead.
Starting point is 01:01:26 Bring your forehead up, smooth it. So fully on your forehead. I can't do that. Make up. Flatten your hand on your forehead. This is a good one for you. It stretches your brows. Let's stretch your nose.
Starting point is 01:01:35 No, no, no. I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it. Oh, you like this. Okay. So do you feel that stretch here? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 01:01:40 So you feel that stretch there. That's stimulating all the limp to move and all the puffiness to move out of your face. It's releasing some of the type fascia, which is creating stagnation and sagging and fibrosis in your tissue. Stretching the fascia in his eyes. If you want your eyes to open more, you got to stretch your. I don't want my eyes to open more. I like him like this. Okay.
Starting point is 01:02:00 Yeah. You can. can like that. That's one. And then the one I showed you before. Mm-hmm. Just go with it. All that makes sense to me. And then stretching your nuts. Do you have a code for the listeners? Yes. Okay. For all of my skincare and my tools, we made code skinny for you guys. And then we also, I also, we just had a huge launch yesterday.
