Get ready for some major realness. Welcome to the skinny confidential, him and her. But if you have weight to lose and you want to get rid of it, it also robs you of what I didn't have, which is confidence.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And I think the greatest gift health gives you. And you guys tell me how you guys feel, but it gives you what I would say is fucking confidence. And you need that edge in life to go after whatever it is you want to do, whether it's work, whether it's a relationship, whether I'm a dad, I have two kids. I have a 14 year old in high school. I have a 12 year old. I want to be active with them. Welcome back, everybody. Another exciting week.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Another exciting episode. That clip was from our guests of the show today, Celebrity Fitness Trainer and Celebrity Author, Jorge Cruz, on this episode. on this episode, we talk all intermittent fasting, diet, fitness, you name it, everything under the sun. Lots of intermittent fasting. Lots of intermittent fasting. We really break it down. You guys have had a lot of questions about intermittent fasting, so we thought we would bring on the expert, Jorge Cruz. He gives very, very specific details, which we love. Breaking down all the myths around intermittent fasting. Guys, for those of you that are new to the show, my name is Michael Bostic. I'm a serial entrepreneur and the CEO of the Dear Media podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:58 network across from me is my beautiful wife, a little bit swollen. Michael, I don't look beautiful right now. Don't mind. You're beautiful to me, right? Really? Yeah. No. Yesterday you looked at me and you, like, you do this thing when you look at me when
Starting point is 00:02:11 I'm this swollen and you like dissect me with your eyes. Well, I just, you know, it's, I'm used to looking at a specific face for a very long time. Well, you know, I've been trying to do this. I had to look at your fine lines for a long time. I was trying to do this intro without my headphones on to see if I could do it. It's just not the same without the headphones on. I got to put the headphones on.
Starting point is 00:02:27 So I'm going to put it on. While you're, once you entertain everybody for a minute, I'm going to put the headphones on. I'm Lauren Everett's very swollen wife. I told you guys in the last episode, I had the screws and metal removed from my face from jaw surgery. It still hurts to talk, but I'm here. I'm live. It hurts to do other things, too.
Starting point is 00:02:44 So Michael didn't get all his birthday gifts last night, but, uh. This is more of a loss for me than for anyone. Okay. Yeah, feel bad for Michael. You know what is really funny. I got surgery a week ago, and I get out of it. of surgery. This is a real story, you guys. And I look at Michael and I can tell that he's coughing, he's making loud sighs, he's being a little bit louder than normal, which is pretty loud.
Starting point is 00:03:11 And it turns out he had a tickle in his throat. A little bit of a tickle. So for five days while I was recovering from surgery, I had to nurse him back to health with tea and massages and Tiger Bomb because he had a tickle in his throat. Well, why does one thing have to do with the other? Like, why can I not be sick because you have surgery? It's just so interesting how the second that I'm not taken away from you. The second I have surgery, you get a tickle in your throat and then my dog gets a long black hair stuck in his butthole. That's a whole other side. For people that don't follow your social, they're like, probably what the fuck are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:03:44 Give some contacts on the but I will. But I think that I got sick by going to your, I get sick in hospitals or wherever we were. Is that way that was really a hospital? Like just doctor's office. I think I got a little bit of a, there's something float around in there. Okay, so tell us about the butthole hair really quick. I don't know. Our dog ate some long hair, and it was, I didn't know what to do.
Starting point is 00:04:01 It was just hanging out like a streamer out of his ass. It was really, it was really concerning. So everyone feel bad for me because while I was trying to recover from surgery, there was a circus at my fucking house. Yeah. So I'm Lauren Everett. I'm the creator of the skinny confidential. I've started to put that explicit sign on our show, which we didn't ever really do in the beginning. And I don't know why, because obviously this explicit.
Starting point is 00:04:19 But, you know, because we get in some write-ins and people are, like, shocked that there's bad words or sex topics or... Yeah, there's going to be bad words. Guys, we talk how we talk. Yeah, I'm not going to change the way I talk. This is the way I talk. It's the way I talk if you go to Happy Hour with me. And I think if you have kids in the car, you probably shouldn't listen to the episodes with them.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Listen, if you're looking for Mary Poppins and who's that guy? The guy that wore the red sweater? The guy that wore the red sweater. Taylor, who's that guy that wore the reds? Mr. Rogers. Yeah, if you're looking for Mary Poppins and Mr. Rogers, switch to another channel. That ain't us, guys.
Starting point is 00:04:51 There's plenty of other shows that can do this. You know what else I just thought of? You pulled your back. out too while I was recovering. I know, and I wish I had a cool story about that, but I was picking up a giant box of waters. Okay, so basically... 32 never felt so old, everyone. Oh, it was Michael's birthday, too, you guys, on when?
Starting point is 00:05:07 So it was everything about you all week while I was recovering. Yeah, I'm going to have to have Jorge back on the show soon to talk about anti-aging. All right, guys, so let's get into the interview with Jorge Cruz. Jorge Cruz is a celebrity fitness trainer, has trained some of the top celebrities and personalities in the world, author of multiple best. selling books, most recent one all about intermittent fasting called Cruise Control. Guys, welcome Jorge Cruz of the show. This is a good one. Let's take a quick break because right now, Lauren shoes are distracting me because they are sexy. They actually are sexy. Thanks,
Starting point is 00:05:41 Taylor. So guys, I have talked about these shoes. I cannot stop wearing them. I'm not joking. This is probably one of my favorite partnerships I've ever done because you guys know I'm obsessed with white shoes. There's just nothing better than a pair of white shoes. So, inner Rothies. I wear these shoes at least five times a week. They are by my door. They're so cute to slide on. They're very nostalgic. They remind me of shoes that I had when I was little, but they are updated, like, with a twist. You know what I mean? So they're super easy to wear. You just slide them on when you're running out the door like me and you're late for a meeting, but you still want to look pulled together. And a fun fact is that Megan Markle wears these shoes too. So when I'm running out the door
Starting point is 00:06:23 shoving a hard-boiled egg in my face, I'm basically Megan Markle in my white shoes. I like a shoe that flatters the foot. And I know this sounds crazy, but sometimes you get shoes that make your feet look, I don't know, wide and weird. Rothies really flatter the foot and make you have like these long, perfect sort of ballerina-type feet. I actually have three pairs of these shoes. I actually have three pairs of these shoes and this is going to blow your mind, but they're made from recycled plastic water bottles, which is so cool. And they're the softest shoe you'll ever put on your feet, and you can feel good about wearing them. Rathis has almost reached 20 million bottles recycled. Crazy. Right away, you guys are going to discover why BuzzFeed calls these shoes. They're forever
Starting point is 00:07:05 shoes. So right now, Rothes is an amazing deal just for TSC listeners. Use code Skinny to get free shipping with no minimum. Free shipping and free returns and exchanges on your Rothy's shoes. And trust me, you guys aren't going to return them. In fact, I feel like you're going to buy more. Go to Rothies.com. Once you guys try shoes that are this comfortable, stylish, and sustainable, you're never going to wear anything else. Head to Rathies.com and claim this offer with code skinny. This is the skinny confidential, him and her. I'm really excited because I just found out that I can break my intermittent fast with lube.
Starting point is 00:07:48 No, no, you don't break it. You actually stay fasting. I stay fasting with loom. It's one of the foods you can eat while you're fasting, and it won't raise your insulin. You burn belly fat with it. Okay, so I can get freaky with my goal before my fast is over because I'm actually having healthy fat.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Or after you're fast, too. See, when we created this, the ultimate dessert. We created this, I figured, you know, I needed, we need to add the dietary element into it. So now I can anything get in her mouth is perfect. Except that banana. We'll talk about the banana. We're going to talk about the banana.
Starting point is 00:08:18 We can't do that. So we have Jorge Cruz here. He is going to dive into specifics with intermittent fasting. You guys have asked so many questions about intermittent fasting. I feel like there's a million theories, but you are really the guru of intermittent fasting. Let's go back a little bit. I mean, we're going to dive into it, but let's go back. I mean, you've worked with everybody under the sun at this point.
Starting point is 00:08:40 You know, we've had a few interactions now. You know, I've been talking for a while. But for the audience that's just turning in, let's get a little background. Sure. Sure. I mean, for me, you know, I was an overweight kid. My mother's from South America from Bogota, Colombia, for all my Spanish-speaking people, peace, Ola.
Starting point is 00:08:55 And so I learned speaking Spanish, but I grew up being a little Latin. I'm gay, but I didn't know I was gay at the time. I grew up Catholic. So for me, as much as I was a free spirit probably, there was a lot of control by my Catholic mother and grandmother that raised me. And for me, I was always felt like a part of me was probably missing all the way through high school and college, I was overweight. So for me, the way I think I got through it before I discovered fitness, because fitness became my fucking drug. I mean, that's what I use to stay sane.
Starting point is 00:09:23 That's what I did during my hard times. But before I discovered fitness, I discovered the other F word food. And I ate emotionally, right? I mean, can you guys relate to that? I mean, obviously I was sad. And for me, food was a way to feel better. And I wasn't overeating avocados or, you know, I was probably eating too many bananas and chips and crackers carbs. I was just eating carbs. Sugar. So I was addicted to sugar, so I got to be fat. And so for me, not knowing that I was gay, but knowing that I was a little vain and didn't feel confident in my own skin, for me, by the time I was 1819, I was trying to figure out, how do I lose this weight? But I was almost like 240 at one time, and I'm 6'1. You know, now I'm like 175, and I feel way better at that weight for me.
Starting point is 00:10:02 And, you know, and for me, it's been a struggle. And then I, you know, I turned my lemon into lemonade. You know, I wrote my first book in 2001. I was really blessed that Anthony Robbins was my very first client, celebrity. client, he and his family, and he wrote the introduction of my first book in 2001. But I was really blessed because the reason I think Tony even talked to me was because in 1998 I was on Oprah Winfrey. Oprah discovered me. So before there were books, before anything. Oprah who? Miss Winfrey. Oprah who? You know, the big O? You know about the big O. You know, you told it we were
Starting point is 00:10:31 talking privately and now it's nothing's private anymore. We're on the show. But we're all, it's all yeah. We were talking, you know, this weekend when we were having, was it this weekend? Yeah. We're brunch. Where were we? Yeah. The Polo Lounge. You said something that made me, I don't want to say sad for you, but it kind of did. Like, you grew up in a very Catholic, religious setting, and your grandmother would actually
Starting point is 00:10:49 maybe smack me. Smack you. With a broomstick. When she, maybe you would do things that she would say, maybe not manly or maybe, what she said, she'd call you a Maricon, right? Maricon, yeah, in Spanish. And she said, like, that was my affirmation, like, as a little boy. I didn't even know what it meant.
Starting point is 00:11:03 She told me it meant, she would say to me, and I wrote about this a few years ago in a book called The Three Choices. I had to turn pain in the power, and it was kind of my telling story of how I got through it all. But she used to say, Tu no is Maricon. And in Spanish, that means, and it's harsh. It's not that you're not gay, but you're not a fag. That's what she would tell me that. And if I did anything that was feminine, or I remember I had action figures, Star Wars, action figures, which I love.
Starting point is 00:11:27 But I also had strawberry shortcake. Someone gave me that once. And I love strawberries. I love how they smell. And you could scratch her outfit, and it would smell like strawberries. Yeah, I totally. You had one, too. Oh, yeah. Strawberry Shortcake's an OG.
Starting point is 00:11:40 We're the same. I know. But Grandma did not think that was appropriate. But that's got to be really confusing as a kid, right? That's got to be really confusing. Well, I would go to my chips. I did a bag of corn chips, and I didn't know that they were inflammatory. So we're going to talk about how corn and oil and all this stuff can age just to make us sick.
Starting point is 00:11:57 But I was eating all the crap that you could eat. I was eating fast food, French fries, a lot of, just everything I could have feel better. And so I was, you know, if you go to my Instagram at Horty Cruz, I mean, there are a lot of fat pictures. I mean, I always do throwbacks on. Thursday of me back in the fat days, you know? And if you Google, just Jorge Cruz fat on Google, I mean, there's tons of pictures from when I was on Dr. Oz or with Oprah or the Today Show, all of my appearances. I always try to tell people that I'm not perfect, although there are a lot of trainers, celebrity trainers in L.A. that never were fat. But I think that's my edge.
Starting point is 00:12:26 And that's where I can relate to a lot of people that may be listening that have 5, 10, 20, 30 pounds to lose right there? If you do, listen in, because we're going to talk about it, right, Lauren? Right. And, you know, I want to know if there was a moment in time. that you can really go back to where you were like, I want to lose weight. Was there an epiphany or was it slow? What did that look like? You know, for me, I was so passionate about health.
Starting point is 00:12:50 And I went to UCSD in La Jolla, studied there. And you went to Troy Pines. You're a kind of San Diego guy, right? I love San Diego. Grew up there. That's where my family. I was born outside of the country, but that's where I was raised,
Starting point is 00:13:02 was in Southern Cali. And, you know, growing up, you know, I was born in 1971. I hate to say it, I'm almost 48. I'm going to be 48 this year. And you're an anomaly because honestly, and I don't take this the wrong way, but I think you actually look better than you did when you were younger. Well, fuck.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Because you were showing us. Skin is so glowing because you have your healthy fats. It is. From everything from avocado to nut butter to woo. Yeah. To woo. But no, but I, well, thank you for saying it. That's really.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Because you were showing us all those pictures this weekend. You know, we were going back in time. We were like, whoa, who the fuck is that? Yeah. No, I do feel like a different person. I mean, a lot has happened since 20 years ago, you know? And in the 20 years, I've been a trainer, 25 have been a celebrity. Trainer, you know, I've been on Oprah to Tony Robbins being my first client, writing the
Starting point is 00:13:42 introduction of my first book. I've written out over 36 books. Cruise control, which we're going to talk about, is, I think the, I hate to use a big fancy word, but it's the amalgamation of 20 plus years of me writing. What does that mean? That means the accumulation. The accumulation. So am I, Michael's, how do I say it? Amalgamation? You are the amalgamation of a lot of trial and error. Oh my God. I want him to call me that from now on. The amalgamation? It sounds intense. Sounds like a monster. Oh, but she's got a miser. She's precious. She is precious. So looks can be deceiving.
Starting point is 00:14:16 Anyway, let's get back to the... Back to the amalgamation of my books. So this new book on Intermittance, which we're going to talk about, really has given me in the last three years. Because I've trained out people in Malibu from Brookburg to Steve Harvey. And I've really been lucky that I've had a long career. One of my buddies as a celebrity trainer is Gunner Peterson. He's been in the business for years. He works with the Kardashians.
Starting point is 00:14:36 We actually worked together. I was on Revenge Body with Chloe. got really close to Chloe Kardashian. She's such a great woman because when I first heard about revenge body, you guys remember about it. I thought it was right after the Lamar incident and all that stuff. And I was like, I don't know if I want to be connected to a show that's about getting revenge on your ex after, you know, it was with prostitutes and all that.
Starting point is 00:14:54 And they're like, no, no, no, it's not about that. It was really about people who had unhealthy or were unhealthy in their life and wanted to get revenge on their past. And that I could relate to because I hated the way I felt. I hated the way it looked for all my 20s and most, I'd say right till mid-20s, because then I finally kind of discovered exercise. And that's what my first book was about. It was called Eight Minutes in the Morning.
Starting point is 00:15:14 And it was a book on strength training to build lean muscle to burn fat. Now, I wasn't doing hit training. Now I work with like Brooke Burke. She and I, I mean, she's same age, 47, which is going to be 48 next year. And she's hotter in a string bikini right now. If you guys Google search Brooke Burke, you know, she went dancing with the stars. She was the host for seven seasons. I mean, she's 47, a mom of four.
Starting point is 00:15:34 And she looks hotter than ever before. She just posted something where she was like 10 years ago. go on the cover of Shape Magazine. And now she just posted a picture that she took, like on the beach. She's hotter now, 10 years later. She looks hotter than an 18-year-old on spring break drinking a skinny pinocalada. Well, that is a testimonial. Brooke, did you hear that?
Starting point is 00:15:53 Amen. And she does, right? She really does. I mean, no BS. And, you know, she used to be on a horrible diet when she was in her 20s and 30s. It's not a horrible diet. But she, you know, I've had her on my podcast, Cruise Control. We talked about what she ate back in the day to look healthy.
Starting point is 00:16:07 She'd have a can of tuna with a dollop of applesauce, and she'd sprinkle dry oatmeal. And that was her lunch. I mean, eating out of a can. And now, you know, she and I will hang out. She's like my bestie. We're kind of like the Will and Grace of Malibu. You know, she's my grace. I'm her will.
Starting point is 00:16:21 And, you know, she's going through a breakup. And, you know, it's hard because in life when you have challenges like that, you want to eat, you know. And so she does eat, though. And we'll go out. We'll go to Cafe Habana, like Cindy Crawford's restaurant in Malibu. We need to go there. That's our next spot. Let's go, Cafe Habana.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Great guacin chips. And they also have cucumbers as chips. We'll talk about little hacks. I'm in. Sign me up. I love a hack. An endive lettuce for a chip. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:45 Oh, you can do that too, end dives. But we'll go have dinner there, whether it's that or we'll go to Italian or go to Nobu and Malibu. And we'll have glass of wine. I mean, you can eat on this diet. You know, when you understand how to eat in an eight-hour time-restricted window, sounds restricting, but it gives you so much freedom because during that eight hours, you eat almost anything you want. Hopefully it's anti-inflammatory.
Starting point is 00:17:04 That's kind of the diet I like because, you know, at 47. And I don't want to look old, you know, and thank you for guys for saying that I don't, but I don't want to get old in 10 years either. I want to, I feel like a lot of what I've done has been just getting ready for unleashing a movement. I don't even think of it as a book, even though it's out April 2nd. Cruise control, I think, is going to be a movement. And I'm so excited that you guys have kind of been in the movement with me.
Starting point is 00:17:27 We're trying. We're trying. I want to, for someone that's listening. Yeah, yeah. That has no fucking idea what intermittent fasting is. I want to really dissect it. So the first thing I would ask you is to explain intermittent fasting to someone that has no clue what it is in a very simple way. Sure.
Starting point is 00:17:44 I mean, intermittent fasting is when you eat usually in an eight-hour window and you fast, which means you don't eat for 16 hours. What are the other options? Because I know there's other options. Yeah. There's some people that will do, and I'll do this on occasion. I'll have some clients that will do a 20-hour fast and they'll only eat in four hours. Okay. There's some people will do 12 hours.
Starting point is 00:18:03 You know, but what the science is then, and for Cruise Control, this book that's out April 7th, I interviewed probably, I mean, Alex, my right hand will tell you, she's here in studio, but I probably interviewed like 12 people. And I interviewed Dr. Panda. He's the premier guy. His name is Dr. Sanche Panda. He's at the Salk Institute in La Jolla. And Dr. Panda, as kind of cute as his name is, right, he wrote a book called the Sarcadium Code.
Starting point is 00:18:25 And it's really based on deep research about how our bodies are designed, you know, since the dawn of time, since we were human, to eat with the sun and kind of stop. This has to do with the circadian rhythm. Yeah. Yeah, and it's really, so intermittent fasting, it's just you going back to your original blueprint. Okay. And the ideal window that he suggests is 16 hours. Okay, so what would you say to someone who says that sounds like you're starving yourself?
Starting point is 00:18:48 I know. I know you're going to get a lot of questions about this. Totally. So let's just address it. And, you know, I've been a trainer now in L.A. for all these years, I mean, and I'll tell you, most people in Hollywood are starving themselves to fast. You know, and there's some people that will just eat one meal and it's a tiny little salad with little miso soup or something. And that's it. And they are starving.
Starting point is 00:19:06 And they get used to it. They just suffer. I mean, people in L.A. like New York, they're tough. But my clients, whether it's Brooke or Steve Harvey, they don't suffer because I cheat the fast with healthy fats. And so I brought on this table and we'll talk about it. I brought some of my favorite healthy fats, FAT, right? Because that's the F word that most people, and Lauren, you probably can attest this. You've met a lot of famous people in L.A.
Starting point is 00:19:29 Most people are scared of the F word. Fat. They're like, oh, my God, I can't eat that. This is so high in? Fat. Calories. Fat and all this. Oh, I got to be locale.
Starting point is 00:19:37 But what's ironic, if you can use fats, especially in the morning, what I call the bumper zone. So imagine you eat, like, I eat my lunch at one, and I'll have dinner like at six, right? So it's a normal eight-hour window gives me time to eat. And sometimes we talked about kind of customizing it for you guys where I think, Lauren, you were going to eat later. Yeah, let's talk about how you custom it. Before you do that, because I know, I know how our listeners are and there's going to be.
Starting point is 00:19:58 I know how our listeners are, and there's a lot of people. I think we have a healthy skepticism here, both Lauren and I do as well. for people that want to know a little bit more of the science behind this, right? Because a lot of people, they hear the word starving and not eating and they think, okay, that's unhealthy. That doesn't work. Totally. But understanding the science behind why it could be beneficial to fast, you're the perfect person to ask. You know another good source of healthy fats, Michael? What, Lauren? Woo.
Starting point is 00:20:23 Oh, I know. More play. Woo, more play. Guys, this is a game changer. Taylor, don't pop a boner. We have been gifting woo all around town. The streets of West Hollywood are covered in coconut lube. Coconut all lube.
Starting point is 00:20:41 Everyone is having a blast. Jorge got some. Taylor's got a lot. Lauren and I cannot live without it. But yes, like Lauren said, get your healthy fats in while also having some fun in the bedroom. You can eat it. Look at suck it, fuck it. It has little stevia, some beeswax, vanilla essence.
Starting point is 00:20:55 It is the jam. Literally. Literally it's the jam. People always ask like, okay. well, do I really need this? It's not that you need it. It just makes everything a lot better. It makes it a lot more fun. Why wouldn't you want something to enhance the sexual bedroom experience? I mean, it's so much fun. And you know what? I love a multitasking moment. I like to get my healthy fats in while I'm doing other things. Guys, when we put this product together, we had you in mind. We got your back. All natural, all organic, simple products, four main ingredients. So give it a try. Give it a whirl. Looks good on your vanity. Girls love it. Guys love it even more. Starting point is 00:21:31 good everywhere. It looks better on me. Guys, to try it, go to woo moreplay.com. That's W-O-O-M-O-R-E-P-L-A-Y.com and entercode him and her at checkout for 20% off your first order. Enjoy, have fun, your significant other. Well, thank you, and you'll thank yourself even more. Get slippery. As much as fasting can be painful with cruise control, we cheat the fast so you're never hungry.
Starting point is 00:21:56 So imagine always feeling full. And we'll talk about how we do that in the morning and at night, because in the morning, You know, if you're skipping breakfast and you're having lunch at one or two, you know, what do you do? So you're not starving, you know? And so we'll talk about that because we cheat it with healthy fats. But even going more granular, like understanding why, like what the benefits of the body are for a fasting period. Here's the number one word out there. And this is your dollar word, guys.
Starting point is 00:22:17 This is like the big, you know, college word here. It's called autophagy. And autophagy simply means your body does housekeeping. So it's like if you're staying at a fancy hotel or even whatever, and you go out and they clean your room and they kind of reset it. Atophagy is when your body does housekeeping. And not just housekeeping to burn belly fat or to use adipose tissue that's stored in our abdominal region, which is the most dangerous for heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, all the issues come with a high waist circumference.
Starting point is 00:22:44 So that's part of the housekeeping. That goes away. But then if you have cells in your body that are possibly damaged in some way, I'm not going to say they're malignant, but they're not healthy cells, your body also gets rid of them doing this autophagy. Free radicals? Yes, when you have free radical damage. when you are, I mean, a lot of people drink alcohol.
Starting point is 00:23:03 When you drink alcohol, I hate to say it as much as it, we can talk about that, but a lot of my clients like Brooke and I will have glasses of wine. You know, there's a way to do that. But what happens when you have alcohol, I mean, it destroys tissue. And so you have dead cells in your body after you eat certain things. And so how do you get rid of that? So your body through autophagy, giving it a 16-hour window where you're not eating. And we'll be specific.
Starting point is 00:23:24 You're not eating carbs and proteins. Are you doing fats? We were going to talk about that. But that's the one macro that doesn't raise insubfew. insulin. And that is the chiching moment, as Oprah would say, the aha moment. Like if you can know that healthy fats, and we'll talk about dangerous fats, make sure we talk about that, but there's some fats that will age the F out of you, you know, that literally break. You're like corn oil or soy bean oil. We'll talk about that. But healthy fats, curb your appetite, don't raise insulin.
Starting point is 00:23:48 If you don't raise insulin, you cheat your body. Your body thinks you're still not eating, and yet you're not hungry. Does that make sense? Yes. I want to know, going back to the benefits, you also told us that it doesn't it do something for your HDH? Or am I saying that wrong? No, no, it does. I mean, it improves hormone levels in both women and men. So talk a little bit about all the little benefits. But really like just dumbing, I mean, I don't say dumbing it down, but really like at the most
Starting point is 00:24:10 simple level, it's giving your body inadequate time to recover and repair. And in our life, we're always go, go, go. And I tell people, if you want the fast life, you know, a bit of a pun intended. Like if you want to fast, but also go fast, you got to slow down. But the way you slow down is just doing less. and that means eating less, but not all the macros. It's not like, all right, oh, it's the morning. I'm going to just have black coffee.
Starting point is 00:24:33 I'll have black coffee in the morning or an espresso. But by 9 or 10, like today, I had a cup of coffee with butter, grass-fed butter in it. And we talked about the brands we like and all that, right? But you want something healthy like a grass-fed butter or it can be coconut oil. Carrie Gold. I do a European butter sometimes. If I'm having a muffin, I'll do like a European butter. That's really good too.
Starting point is 00:24:52 Yeah. No, I mean, butter is good coconut oil. MCT oil. We can talk about that. chain triglystriac, comes from coconut oil. But there's a whole plethora of healthy fats. And they all will stop your hunger. So you take some fat, boom, for two to three hours, you're not hungry. So then you're not eating. And then you're fasting, but your body doesn't know you had that oil because your insulin doesn't go up. And if your insulin doesn't go up, that's the bottom line.
Starting point is 00:25:14 You still have autophagy going on. So you're still cleaning. So it's like you're in the room while they're cleaning, but you're invisible. Kind of like with Harry Potter, like a close-up. I'll say this. And you don't know you're there. And so your body thinks you're not eating, and yet you're not hungry. I've done this now, like, even before we met, was kind of on and off testing and how, you know, Jillian was on the show. She's a fan. I love Jillian.
Starting point is 00:25:32 Yeah. Shout out to Jillian. We love her. Hi, Jillian. And then, you know, we've obviously been talking. I've been doing it. I will tell you this, I don't feel hungry. I feel very focused and I feel like I have a lot more energy.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Clarity. And by the way, also Dr. Stephen Gundry likes intermittent fasting. Ingrid, who's been on the podcast, who's a wellness and fitness experts, loves intermittent fasting. And so does the food babe. There's been a lot of people. across the board. Brooke Berk-Berk loves it. But there's a lot of people in your field, and I won't generalize everybody that are adamantly
Starting point is 00:26:01 against it. And most of the time, you know, I try to look. What I look at is like, listen, your guy, you're in good shape. You've trained a lot of people with a lot of good results. I'm like, okay, this guy must know what he's doing. Same with Gillian. Same with Dr. Gundry. Like, okay, there's obviously a pattern here of high performers that are getting some shit done. A lot of times, there is a big resistance to this movement. And I know you're basically at the forefront of me, like, what would you say to those people? You know, a lot of these people that think, I mean, and I get it because I've only been doing this for three solid years. Beforehand, go back three years when I was just in Malibu for the first, like, year.
Starting point is 00:26:32 I mean, I was testing this out. And I thought, oh, God, what happens if I pass out? My blood sugar is going to be so low. I'm going to literally be working out with Steve Harvey and I'm going to pass out in front of him. I mean, how embarrassing is that, you know, the trainer that doesn't eat and passes out. And there's a lot of, I hate to say it in Hollywood, but a lot of fast shaming. shaming. It's just, oh, you got to eat because what are we told since we were like two years old by our parents? What's the most important meal today, guys? So do you see how there's a-
Starting point is 00:27:01 Kellogg's? Well, there's a huge, there was an article I showed you guys at brunch, remember? We got to link that article too, from, was it box? Was it box? Yes, it was. And you remember, I was talking about how that is a myth that has been pushed since the Victorian time period when they invented the milling press. And so usually people that are against that, I'm not saying it, but they may be sponsored by a cereal company. They may be connected to something that, you know. Protein powder or something. Yeah, because there's a lot of companies that sell morning things.
Starting point is 00:27:28 And I'm not saying you can't have a protein powder and you can have cereal, but you just have to do it during your eight-hour window. And if you're going to break your fast in the morning, then you've got to have an early, early dinner by two or three. It just depends. We can adjust this window. So that's the power of intermittent fasting with cruise control. Not only do you cheat the fast, but more importantly,
Starting point is 00:27:46 you're going to be able to customize it so it works, with your schedule. So if you're a morning person, you have to eat in the morning, you can do that. But if you're a late night person like you, Lauren, you like something at night, right? Yes. And I think what would really help the audience, and I'm really interested in doing this on air, is you customizing a situation for me and Michael. Because then we can get it from a female perspective, a male perspective, and you can show us exactly, you know, what this is. So if someone wants to take the cruise control method and do it at home, they have this sort of outline on the podcast. Well, and also to give a little bit more context around it, it does,
Starting point is 00:28:22 it sounds crazy when you say 16 hours. We really think about it. It sounds intense. Maybe you're closing off three hours before bed, which I think maybe you should. I don't find it in 10. Maybe you're closing, you know, four hours when you wake up. You know, you're getting close to that. Like, it's really just taking that eight hour window. Yeah. Well, you think about it. We should sleep eight hours. I know I sleep maybe six, sometimes five. I'm about a seven. You're seven. So that's good. I'm an eight. Don't fuck with me if I don't get eight. Don't even say hi. Don't even like don't even look or breathe in my direction if I don't have eight and I'd love eight. You should see me in the morning. I am like a
Starting point is 00:28:58 ghoul in there. I'm a ghost. I am so scared to wake her up because it'll fuck the whole. No, here's what you do ladies. If you don't want your husband to wake you up, you condition them. So every time they wake you up, you scream, you cry. I've cried before like theatrics, drama like Sharon Stone and Casino. Shit. Then they start to get scared every time. I'm legitimately like terrified. It's like intermittent fasting. I'm conditioning my husband.
Starting point is 00:29:23 He is well trained. Thank you very much. Well, that's considerate. He's considerate, man. He's gentlemen. Sometimes. He's out of full selfish interest at this point because I'm going to get my head ripped off. Yeah. We don't want damage.
Starting point is 00:29:33 So let's do my cruise control schedule. Let's really break it down. Yeah. So imagine, we're going to say there's a 16 hour window. We're going to pretend everyone sleeps eight hours. So that means you have four in the morning and four at night, right? I call those the bumper zone. And if you guys want to see a visual of this, I mean, you can go to Jorge Cruz.com.
Starting point is 00:29:51 I've got little charts there. The visual is helpful. Yeah, you can go to my Instagram at Jorge Cruz. It's all there. But basically imagine like a circle, like a plate, and divide your day. You know, there's a red zone. I'd simply tell my clients, my slubs, just divide your day into red zone, which is 16 hours of not eating and eight hours of eating. Now, what do you do for 16 hours?
Starting point is 00:30:08 For the most part, you're hopefully sleeping eight of those. So there's the edge in four in the morning and four at night. that may be edgy and kind of like, how do I conquer the morning? How do I conquer the night? I call them those bumper zones. So that's where we use healthy fats. So I brought you guys some oils that I love. I mean, I brought avocado oil, which you can use.
Starting point is 00:30:24 What most of my clients use, though, is butter. What Brooke Brooks loves is ghee, which is like a clarified butter? We need brands. What key do you know? I mean, it doesn't matter. Can you go into Brooke Burke's cabinet next time you're at our house? Take a picture of the ghee and put it on your Instagram, please. Done, of course.
Starting point is 00:30:40 I don't ask for much. No, go ahead. And she'll probably invite you guys on to, we do a Facebook Live social. If you guys will come, we'll video it all. But Guy is good. And you can go to Trader Joe's. It doesn't have to be like some bougie brand. It can be as much as you want to spend.
Starting point is 00:30:53 You can go to Trader Joe's and get coconut. You can get Kerry Gold Butter there. I mean, Trader Joe's has it all. You can go to Whole Foods. You can go wherever you want. You can order on Amazon. But I love, and I love these little satchels. They're ready to go.
Starting point is 00:31:04 They're from Fat Bombs. F-bombs. They're awesome. Love them because they're convenient. I'm going to get Michael Gee. I think you need ghee. Guy is good. but you can also do heavy cream. Here's the bottom line.
Starting point is 00:31:13 Pick a fat that it has no carbs or protein. You can't do half and half, because it's half sugar pretty much. You can't do milk. You can't do almond milk. You can't do coconut milk because a lot of times it has sugar. I found out I was doing intermittent fasting wrong first five months because I was doing unsweetened almond milk.
Starting point is 00:31:29 And that's not bad, but it has a little bit of carbs. So what we do is we go with 100% fat in the morning. What about if the almond milk has literally nothing in it besides water and almonds? What if I found an almond milk that has just water milk? It has no carbs or sugar. Literally not one thing besides... No protein. But then you're fine.
Starting point is 00:31:46 It's water, pretty much. Got it. That's fine. Just check your labels. Hopefully it has some fat. Does it have fat? He's looking at you pretty skeptical. It's plenish.
Starting point is 00:31:52 It sounds like water. You sure it wasn't water. It's plenish. That's the brand. I'll send you a picture of it. All right. So we'll check it up. But what I do want you to have as much as that's in there, you got to have some fat in there
Starting point is 00:32:02 if you're hungry. Now here's what I tell my celebrity clients. So if I get up like, I'm crazy. I'm up at four in the morning. I'm live at five with a lot of my clients streaming workouts. We're doing all this crazy shit. I'll have a cup of coffee. I have my espresso at four.
Starting point is 00:32:13 I just do. Then at five, I'll have one more drink. Then by six, I'm hungry. I'm like, shit. I have to eat something, but I'm not. So what I do is I'll have my coffee with two tablespoons of grass-fed butter, either that or two tablespoons of heavy cream or two tablespoons of like coconut butter. If you do MCT oil, only do a teaspoon because I write about it in the book.
Starting point is 00:32:34 You'll get what I call, quote, unquote, tummy troubles. get a stomach ache from MCT oil. Listen, you don't want to be running to work, shitting yourself, you know what I mean? You literally will shit your pants. That's the tummy trouble. Oh, my God. Let's do that to Taylor when we want to fuck with him.
Starting point is 00:32:44 I'm going to put MCT oil in your... It's so healthy, and it is healthy, but it's so slick. I'd rather you just do coconut or do a small amount of MCT oil. So, but it is the Ferrari of oils, MCT oil. It is the one that holds your appetite up the best, but you have to use less. It's counterintuitive. You have to use less. You have to use all of it.
Starting point is 00:33:02 You're like, oh, I don't eat all day. I'm just going to use the whole thing of MCT. You'll be in the bathroom all morning. You don't want that. We have been talking a lot about health here, a lot about getting the right hours of sleep, intermittent fasting. I wanted to let you guys know
Starting point is 00:33:15 one of the keys to sleep for me because I was sleeping like shit for a very long time has been CBD, using CBD, and specifically cured nutrition. The product that I really love is the cured Zen. It's a nighttime calming supplement and encourages relaxation, improved sleep quality,
Starting point is 00:33:33 infused with a little bit of, CBD extra out. It's not for me. It's not like psychoactive so you don't get that high feeling. You just get extremely relaxed and I'm getting a ton of REM sleep, which if you know anything about sleep like I do, that's the best type of sleep. And it just takes all of the stress away for the day. Like sometimes you go to bed or I go to bed specifically and I have that kind of like anxious feeling in my gut and it makes it hard to fall asleep. Reading helps. But honestly, what's been helping a lot more lately is CBD and specifically the cured Zen from cured nutrition. Personally, for CBD, you guys know I'm a huge fan.
Starting point is 00:34:05 I used to go to bed at 2 in the morning. No, I go to bed at 10. Don't mean to brag. In bed by 9.30, which is pretty cool. I use the cured classic mint oil. So what I do is I make like a hot mint tea or a hot drink. And I just put a few drops in my tea, my water, my hydro flask, whatever. The reason I like their CBD is it's THC-free.
Starting point is 00:34:24 It's mint flavored and their ingredients are super minimal. So all they have in it is like hemp extract, grapeseed oil, organic peppermint act. extract and that's it goes in my tea add a little mint a little lemon it's perfect to wind down yeah we've been talking about this product in this company for the last few weeks we really love it i don't know where CBD's been all my life it's the best vegan gluten free no preservatives and third party tested it helps maintain a balance of general health and wellness which we love get in bed with CBD so guys to try cured nutrition and try our favorite products especially try the cured zen go to cured nutrition dot com slash skinny and enter promo code skinny for 15% off again that's cured nutrition.com
Starting point is 00:35:07 slash skinny and enter promo code skinny for 15% off your entire order as always this will be linked in the show notes guys give it a try enjoy if we're looking at my chart that we talked about I have it right here I like to wake up at 730 yes you do I like to go to bed around about 11 so that's 12 so remember tell them what I did I had to shift your eating block to start at what time we said basically right after 2 o'clock. Yes, and I eat late, you guys, because I'll have meetings at night. We just go out late. So I stop eating at 10.
Starting point is 00:35:39 So 10. And so you're going to start eating. Remember, this is. And drinking. And drinking. If I'm having wine, you stop drinking and eating at 10. Get your alcohol. Get all your macros.
Starting point is 00:35:46 The carbs is wine is carbs. Hate to say it. It's sugar, right? You do your proteins, your fats, all that during your healthy eight-hour window. But for you, since you're eating so late, we started you later for lunch. And you could also, if you could stop eating at eight if you wanted to. But for me, we stopped. me at 10. So then I'm sleeping my eight hours, so I wake up at 7.30. When I wake up, you told me
Starting point is 00:36:07 not to do the buttered coffee because I'm not hungry. Unless you're hungry. Do a black coffee or now I can use my Plenish almond milk. Yeah, you can. Shout out to Ingrid for recommending that brand. But add some fat in there, but that thing does, probably has no fat. It sounds like it has nothing. But I thought you said for the first coffee. The Plish is still up a review. For the first, I'm at 730. I'm not a 4 a.m. type of person. I don't want to kill anyone. No, no, no. You'd be in trouble already. I'll pull a knife. But I will say there's one more hack in the morning that you guys have to do. And you see it on here.
Starting point is 00:36:35 What is this? It's H-1-2-O. That's what I do. I took 16 ounces. I do that. We have my hydro flask. I love it. All ice in it,
Starting point is 00:36:42 ready to go freezing cold in the morning with mint, ginger, and lemon. I know. How chic. I thank you. So we do the water first, and then we do a black coffee with plenish. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:52 Cinnamon perhaps. Beautiful. To balance the blood sugar. Okay. Michael, you need a little cinnamon in your coffee. Maybe a splash of turmeric. Is that okay? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:02 Spices are fine. I like a specific. No calories. So bring them on. And then so when I start to feel hungry around nine, this is what you recommended to me is to add some type of fat to the coffee situation. That's two tablespoons. So go up and you can mix it. I mean, if I go to Starbucks and I'm lazy, I'll just ask them to do two caps, which is about a tablespoon of heavy cream, but it's over the counter.
Starting point is 00:37:22 If you follow my Instagram stories, guys, I usually do Starbucks at least twice a week. And I'll go with my kids, usually because I have two sons. I have a 14-year-old and a 12-year-old. then they do the same thing. They're doing it. And if people wonder, like, how young is too young or how old is too old, do it at any time. Okay. So, but the other hack I was saying is water.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Water. And I want to say this because, and I see that you guys have the best water here. Yeah. We were talking about that. We're getting rid of the plastic bottles and we're getting this at our house. Yeah, this is great. This is the mountain valley. But water is so important and make sure it's mineral water, guys.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Oh, yeah, that's the mineral water. You need mineral water and you need minerals. I listen to that. Yeah. That's really like it. She's so good. Thank you. So healthy over that.
Starting point is 00:37:58 So, okay. So the main- Hold on. I have one more question, Michael. So then I can start eating. My window to start eating is- 2 o'clock. Two o'clock. Which I've been doing you guys and it hasn't been hard at all. See, but I want to say this because I want to make sure that this is like out to everyone. Yeah. I have been trying this on myself as a human guinea pig. I like it. That doesn't mean it's blanketly going to work for everyone. If you're like suspicious about it, consult your doctor. This has worked for a lot of my friends. So I would recommend looking into it, but be your own guru. No, totally. And you've got to go through your body, but I will say this, the science, just to go back to your question. We're finally answering your question here. The science on autophagy is, it's like it's, you know, you always hear that the body can heal itself. I mean, really smart doctors understand that medicine doesn't heal it, it just aids your body and it's natural healing. And if you want to fat proof your body, if you want to age proof your body and disease proof your body, there's nothing in my 25 years of working with high-end people and being a trainer and 20 years of being an author. And I've been in
Starting point is 00:38:58 36 other books, I would put my whole reputation on intermittent fasting as being the thing out of all the things I've learned from hit training to eating macros and doing the popcorn, diet, the cabbage soup, eating bone broths. I mean, there's so many hacks, there's so many tricks to losing weight and getting healthy and feeling good. I would say intermittent fasting from libido to anti-aging to whatever it is that is wrong or you feel like your body has some sort of, I hate to use the word, dis-ease, but there's not this ease to your body where you feel tired and old and fat or whatever. This is like, I mean, literally you can lose 28 pounds in 28 days. I mean, it's like a pound a day if you have weight to lose. Okay, this is really important to discuss
Starting point is 00:39:37 too. Can you give us an example of someone like Brooke Burke who looks amazing? What is she eating in her eight hours? I need so specific. Totally. I need to know exactly. More importantly, though, not just someone like her, but I want you to also really clarify in this eight hour window. It's not that you're eating. You're not, explain really what you're eating. Because I want people to understand that are listening. So let's talk about that. They start eating in this. I don't want people to be hungry and passing out.
Starting point is 00:40:01 Like during this eight-hour window, what can they eat? How much can they eat? Sure, sure. No, this is critical, guys, because when you're eating, I have a blueprint. I give away to all my clients for free. If you go to HoriCruz.com, you just get it for free when you get my book. If you get the book, you get the blueprint immediately, so you don't have to wait for it online. And what I tell my clients is when you eat 50% healthy fats, 30% good carbohydrates.
Starting point is 00:40:23 You need carbs, guys. I'm going to talk about that. Which ones, though? I'll tell you in a second here. And this is kind of a map. Take a look at this. You can see it here. There's a little chart I have for everyone here.
Starting point is 00:40:31 So when you're in the red zone, when you're burning fat, it's 100% fat during your fast. That's the only macro you can have that doesn't raise insulin. But during your eating zone, you want 50% fat, 30% carbs and 20% protein. And a lot of people are like, why is the protein so low or eight? That should be higher, but protein suppresses appetite. And it does. And for years, I mean, Brooke Burke would eat a can of tuna, right? Straight up protein with a dollop.
Starting point is 00:40:54 We're talking a dollop of apples sauce. That's not much carbohydrate, right? It's like a tablespoon and sprinkle dry oatmeal. That's what she ate in the 90s to stay hot. She ate a can of tuna, and that was it. It was like all protein. What the scientists show me, you go too high on protein, it puts a big task on your kidneys. And it can be very toxic.
Starting point is 00:41:13 So you don't want to overdo protein. You don't want to sit down and go straight up, eat steak for lunch, steak for dinner, and steak, steak, steak. You don't need that. It's too much protein. But the healthy fats are critical. is if you can do 50% healthy fats, and let me just throw this in here, guys. There's certain fats that are fucking the devil. You've got to avoid vegetable oils, all, and I hate to say it, but all vegetable oils from
Starting point is 00:41:36 canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil. And I hate to say it because I love Whole Foods, but you go to Whole Foods deli and hopefully someday they'll change. But almost every salad dressing that they serve in their deli, has corn oil or soybean oil or canola oil. You know what I like for salad dressing? Zero calories, zero everything. Which one?
Starting point is 00:41:54 Champagne Vineigrette. That one is great. It's, there's, you can't go wrong with it. It tastes delicious. You do a little lemon, some Italian herbs. Yeah, yeah. It's delicious. Now, the one thing I would add to that is like an avocado packet from F-bomb or something.
Starting point is 00:42:06 Or like one of my favorite brands of salad dressings is made from avocado oil. It's called Primal Kitchen. You guys have tried that, right? Yes. By my buddy Mark Sisson. And he's so smart. I mean, Kraft just purchased his company. They're going to take it global.
Starting point is 00:42:19 So if you haven't heard of Primal Kitchen, it's going to be out there. I mean, it's ever. Craft now is behind it. And that's how this is moving. And that's the kind of salad dressing I use. And I use quite a bit, you know, I use because you need that oil to suppress your appetite or you're going to be snacking all throughout the day. And so if I have my lunch, say, at 1 o'clock or like Lauren does it too, I'm going to sit down
Starting point is 00:42:37 and have a big ass salad. You know, it's probably, you know, the 30% of carbs is going to be in the salad. I'll do probably a whole avocado. I know that sounds shocking, but I brought this stress ball avocado, which is kind of cute to squeeze. That's just half an avocado. I would do at least a half an avocado, ladies. and if you really have a big appetite
Starting point is 00:42:55 and I don't know, Lauren, do you have a big appetite or medium appetite when you eat? How hungry do you get? I don't, my biggest problem is that I'll wait too long to eat and then stuff my face. You will. Not stuff. Like I'll just, I'll be like famished.
Starting point is 00:43:10 Yeah. I don't, my appetite's not so big. I'd rather snack, but sometimes I have a problem with taking too long because I'm working, moving, whatever. You're busy. But see, like these little satchels of fat, like these are great for me. Just run and go. Easy.
Starting point is 00:43:22 And then whether it's, you know, nut butter or an avocado oil or coconut oil, it's like you throw it in your purse and you rip it and go. And in four seconds, you're not hungry. Can you give us an, like, give us a mock up example of someone that's a woman that's eating in this eight hour window? Well, like Brooke, you're going to give you book schedule. Yeah. Like, give us exact. Yeah. So I know Brooke, you know, she teaches a booty burn in Malibu. So I go to that once a week usually. And she's got a great booty. You know, she's known for that. And the best time to work out, guys, is when you're not eating too. It's when you're fasting. You'll burn more fat. So don't eat. Don't eat. Don't. Don't. have a protein shake before you go work out because you're going to break your fast. Try to work out in the morning. My first book called Eight Minutes in the Morning. You're also going to be more successful. So what Brooke does, she teaches, she has her water. She drinks like 16 ounces of water, mineral water. She usually puts, I've got her this light show, I think, is that what it's called Alex? Lightshow minerals that you just squeeze in this magnesium, potassium, potassium, sodium. If you can't do that,
Starting point is 00:44:14 do a little Himalayan salt, sea salt, or just Himalayan salt, into your water that adds really good minerals and it's pink usually but it's good for women but it's high in iron so that's good that'll suppress your appetite you'll absorb the water better i usually have two of those glasses of water if it's 16 ounces one is enough usually then i'll have my coffee usually black she'll have a black as well then usually by nine before she teaches her class she'll have a cup of butter coffee she loves butter there's so many pictures of her in your butter she loves ghee she loves butter just depends when we're traveling we're doing an event next week in dana is in dana point Alex. Her Brooke Burke-Berk body retreats. They're amazing. We do them about every other two months.
Starting point is 00:44:53 And I do all the nutritional aspect. They teach cruise control to all our high-end ladies. And they come. And so we do this diet with them. They live it. We'll have to invite you. You have to come. Yeah, that would be fun. It's going to be so chic. And you would love it. So regardless, she'll have that in the morning. She'll have her first coffee probably around nine. And then maybe another one right after her workout at 10 or 11, something like that. But then the way she breaks her fast, she's a big smoothie girl. I mean, Brooke has on camera a million times. She goes to either Sun Life Organic in Malibu. We have them over here in Southern Cali.
Starting point is 00:45:20 And shout out to Khalil. He's the owner of the Sun Life Organics. Have you guys been? It's like, you're going to check it out. Yeah, there's one at the Century City Mall here. It's kind of like jamba juice, but healthier. And what's the smoothie order? We need specifics.
Starting point is 00:45:31 Oh, yeah. It's pretty much all healthy high fats, avocado oil, macadamium butter. I mean, it's 50% fat, but she's breaking her fat. So 50% of the shake is fat, healthy fat. So I know that's shocking. But they're like, no, no, I want zero. calories. No, if you're breaking the fast and you've been doing your job for 16 hours, you want healthy fats, then carbs, she'll do spinach, she'll do a lot of greens. Greens are your friend.
Starting point is 00:45:56 You know, not that you can't have blackberries, blueberries. We talked about that at brunch. You can put some of those in there, but those are the darker ones and they're less sugary. It's those bright colored fruits like bananas. I hate to say it. Where's our banana? It's all sugar. It's like as much sugar as a Coca-Cola. So I'm not saying that's bad. It's got fiber and potassium, but, you know, not all of us need that, especially if we're trying to shed five or 10 or 20 pounds. You just don't need that, you know. And so she'll have that, throw in some macadamia nuts, blend it all up. And it's like a million-dollar smoothie.
Starting point is 00:46:22 It's so delicious. I doubt it's less than 600 calories, though. It's probably 6 to 800 calories out one smoothie because the fat is so rich and it's so filling. So that holds her up until dinner. And then it did. Any more coffee or no, the coffee's over? You know, usually when you break the fast and you eat that much at one time, you're good. And after 2 o'clock, you usually don't want coffee anyways, because it has caffeine.
Starting point is 00:46:44 You can do tea, though. We'll talk about that, but at night she'll have tea. And I've taught her how to use healthy fats at night in case she gets hungry at night. You can do it like an herbal tea. Okay, what about dinner? I need... So she'd show after her 800 calorie smoothie, she's not eating until dinner. So what's at dinner?
Starting point is 00:47:01 I bet it holds her up. I mean, there's no shedding you. Like, guys, like she literally, no pun intended on the MCT oil, but she probably goes all the way till six or seven because I work with her. And we work hard. I mean, she's doing shoot. She's doing her stuff for her Brooke, Brooke Body app.
Starting point is 00:47:14 She is working her tail off. She's a mom of two kids. She's picking up kids from school. I mean, she does a lot. She's not sitting at home, some housewife just doing her nails. She's working, you know, and high energy.
Starting point is 00:47:26 And she always says it's mad energy she has. She's like me. She's like, ah, you know. I don't know if anybody's like you. Well, thank you. Brooke is, well, Alex will attest. She and I are like kindred spirits. Brooke and I really feel like kind of like you guys are.
Starting point is 00:47:40 you guys are like quite the yin and yang. She's my yin'ang and Brooke has become like my bestie, but, you know, she's high energy. And then what she'll have at dinner is like, and that's where I'll usually join her. Give specifics. Yeah, like if it's going to Cafe Habana, we'll have tacos, we'll have fajitas, so you can have rice, you can have beans, you can have all the things you think are naughty. If we go to Italian in cafe, near Cafe Havana, there's a Tridina, is that it, Alex? Super. Ferra Fossi used to love that restaurant. Fun fact. I just read about it in her book with Alana Stewart. Yes. Oh, it's like, there's ever,
Starting point is 00:48:11 The Hussein. Are there a lot? And it's off the grid. Triedi North. It's so delicious. They have this amazing gluten-free pizza. You know what I might do? I might even edit that part out because I don't want it to be on the grid. Oh, okay. No, I'm just kidding. I'm not. One time I edited on a massage parlor that I go to. He's so evil. I'll give you the information. There's a foot massage hole in the wall that we go to that he won't tell anyone about. She put it on the show. She almost put me on blast. I got to have these hidden places.
Starting point is 00:48:36 I'll just share secretly on my instrument. Okay, go on. So you go to Italian, what are you get? So if it's Italian, we'll have pizza. Literally will have pizza. We'll have pasta. Now, I'll spiralize. Like at Tritee North, they'll have zucchini noodles. Oh, yeah, they do with meat sauce, with cheese, Parmesan.
Starting point is 00:48:51 If we do, well, I'll take you guys. We'll go. We'll go. They have gluten-free pizza. I mean, it's so worth the 45-minute drive to Malibu. I know it's like in the middle of nowhere. I love a 45-minute drive. You can multitask in the car.
Starting point is 00:49:02 Yeah, because you're not driving. You see the sunset? Yeah, I'd look, Michael. Look outside. Okay, so what about if you're at home? And then, oh, wait, and then wine. Oh, yeah. Brooke and I have wine.
Starting point is 00:49:11 I mean, she enjoys the red or white. She loves red. So do I. Or, you know, rosé in the day. If we've done that, we've done that as well. And the thing is, but we get it all in that eight-hour window. So we have our cutoff. Like, for me with me and Brooks, usually around 8 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:49:24 So by 8 o'clock, you had your glass of wine, no more than two. And you, let's also note that you wake up at 4. So this is different than someone like me. For me, if my glass of wine's at 9.45. That's okay. You're having, you're eating much later. Better chug the bottle before 10. No, I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:49:39 Drink, drink, drink, drink, drink, right? But then you, and then once you're relaxed, right, you've had your vino and you've had your, you're full. That's when Michael should approach me. There's a window. His window. I got a true window. You should add your window of when to approach me on your chart, your cruise control. Add his window of one to approach me.
Starting point is 00:49:57 It's between 8 and 10. He can charm you then. I'm fed. I'm nice, I'm buttered up. Maybe you've loosened up. Maybe put another color like a, yeah, the color. in the window, we have the red, we have the blue, maybe add like another, a third color that I get my window so I can, like bright, like orange or what would it be like a...
Starting point is 00:50:15 One to a pink, obviously, yeah, can we make a pink. Okay, so then you finish it eight and then you guys are off to bed, I would assume at 10. You know, Brooke can stay a blade and I do too, but sometimes I can't sleep and I, you know, I do a lot of recovery stuff in a night to recoup. I do a hot infrared sauna. I do red light therapy. That's good for your skin. I do a lot of stuff to calm me down because I am Latin.
Starting point is 00:50:35 I mean, I'm a Latin guy. I'm hot. hot cup of coffee and I got to cool myself off a night and usually I'll do something like that or I'll do hot to cold. I'll do an ice cold shower and they'll do the sauna. I love here in town I go we have to take you guys. Justin Bieber goes there last time I was there he was there at the Voda spot is a Russian spot here in West Hollywood. Voda that's my secret place. You know what I actually need to go and meet him actually and I'll tell you why he's always there he's he's I've run into him twice he almost hit me with his car last time it's a whole ordeal but then I stupidly got drunk and I was
Starting point is 00:51:03 with my friend and I made this bet for this jacket I really like I was like okay the bet is that I will get a picture and like send it to you because she's obsessed with him. Yeah. And I'm really, I don't think I'm going to win the bet. So like he's there. I need to go over there and get this picture. I don't need to hang out with everything.
Starting point is 00:51:15 I just need to get this picture or send her so I can keep my jacket. We don't need your whole life story. I just want to know my intermittent fasting schedule. Yeah. But I'll put, but point being is I'll just do things like that at night to calm down because a lot of us, what do we do? After we eat,
Starting point is 00:51:26 we watch TV. Now, not that I don't watch TV too. I love watching TV. But I'll try to do something that's relaxing for my system. I'll dim all my lights. I learned this from Raya Carey, no overhead lighting at night. Excuse me, do you have a salt rock lamp? We talked about this.
Starting point is 00:51:40 You need to get the night lights in your room. It's life changing. A shower with eucalyptus leaves hanging. A little bit of Tibetan bongs. Oh, my God. Let's bring the bonnet. Let's go to Tibet right now. We basically live in a rainforest at this point.
Starting point is 00:51:57 You got to get that. You have the infrared sauna though. Michael wants to get that. I love that. I'll hook you up with sunlight and sun. They're the best music for 15 years. We just had somebody else on it. They just told me that. This is the second time on this show. Kiana from Klapari said that. She does. Can you introduce me to somebody over there? Totally. How big of those things? Can they fit on like a... Oh yeah. They have different sizes. They have like penthouse suites. You can walk in and you can have like five people.
Starting point is 00:52:20 What if you want to have a tea or dessert with what... Wait, hold on, hold on, hold on. Will they come in and will they come and check out the house and like put it in? I'm in. I'm in. I'm in. Oh, they do it all. They're amazing. It's VIP. No, you'd love it. You should do that every morning. I'm getting ready. I mean, a lot of people know that. I mean, if you have trouble sleeping, guys, this is, I'm the guy. That's the one book I haven't written yet about how to sleep better. But I'm getting better.
Starting point is 00:52:42 You know, it's about calming your mind down. And there's certain modalities. Like, he will do that. Certain light. Weighted blankets. Oh, I love gravity blanket. Do you have one too? Yes, we need to lander our gravity blankets with our salt rock lamps and our infrared saunas.
Starting point is 00:52:57 Oh, my gosh. We need a picture. This is going to do you mind if I come over? We're going to snuggle. That's a full-y-old. I'll be in the middle. I promise we won't get too naughty. Yeah, that's a fully-eloded question.
Starting point is 00:53:07 Yeah, yes. We'll do it while she's having wine. We'll have wine. Hold on. I have a question about this. What is the dessert that you would recommend? And what is this tea? You said there was a tea.
Starting point is 00:53:16 So I don't think I have the book with me here. But so here's a good thing. If you're having a traditional dessert with sugar, so say we're going to Nobu or whatever in Malibu. We're hanging out. And we're having like something with real sugar and it's wine or whatever. Get it in your eight-hour window. But, and you know, so once that window ends, what the hell do you do you do? right? It's like, am I totally just on water now or just black, or just regular tea? And so the truth is,
Starting point is 00:53:37 you can do tea, but you can do stevia. I use swerve, which isn't stevia, but stevia can be bitter. I like erythritol. Have you guys heard of arithratol? It doesn't upset your stomach. It's natural. I don't use art officials. No pink, no yellow, no blue. You know what I like? There's this fiber syrup by sucrin that I like. How much sugar, though? No sugar. I got to send it to you. It's 28 grams of fiber, a teaspoon. Oh, that's good. You can do that at night. And I sometimes feel, and I've heard this from some people and you can tell me what you think. Of course.
Starting point is 00:54:07 That stevia and all the sweeteners can screw with your hormones. They can't. Yeah, no. As a woman. Yeah, I haven't used stevia in mass or sometimes I like monk fruit. Monk fruit is good. You know about monk fruit, right? And I don't know.
Starting point is 00:54:19 I've never tried it. I just heard. I use arithratan. I love Swerve. It's got a little hummingbird and doesn't strip your tummy. It's sweet. It looks just like sugar. If you put it on your hand, you tap it.
Starting point is 00:54:29 It's so delicious. So I'll do that in my tea. But then I will put, if it's now, say, 10 o'clock a night or Brooke and I're hanging on, we're up until midnight or 1 o'clock, you know, 11 o'clock. You had your dinner around 6 or 7. I mean, you're going to be a little hungry, possibly. If that's the case, and it's not a lack of dehydration, a lack of water, then I will have a tea with some healthy fats in there.
Starting point is 00:54:49 And that turns off your hunger. Now you can put, like, I remember Steve Harvey, the first time I introduced this to him. He's like, oh, I'm hungry. You know, he's like, and he's in his 60s, you know, and he believes life begins at 60s. And so he's doing this for longevity. not just weight loss, he's in great shape. But for him, I had to, you had to introduce to him that powder. What was the fiber that we used for him, Alex?
Starting point is 00:55:09 The Benafiber guys. And now you can get at any drugstore. Remember Ben of fiber? It's the green packet. That's not going to raise your insulin because there's no sugar in it. And what's the fiber you used? Because when we had brunch, you had a fiber in a little vial. I have my suspicious cocaine vials of inulin.
Starting point is 00:55:25 Inulet, I remember in cool intentions? It's a lot of fun going to the airport with her. Remembering cool intentions when she has the necklace with the little Coke's I have one of those necklaces with inuline in it. I love that. People have asked me this is simply gangster chic inulin and it works. No, it does. And you can add a little of erythratol to it and that way it's a sweet fiber.
Starting point is 00:55:45 And you can literally pull that out and drop it in your tea at night, you know. And you'll feel full, no calories, no carbs, and it has the sugar so it's sweet. So you can do that. So I'll do that at night. But I will say this in the book, and this is a tease. So if you guys want to check out the book, definitely preordered if this is out before April 2nd. But what I will say is that we have 20 foods and beverages you can actually enjoy.
Starting point is 00:56:06 And I mean enjoy. I mean indulgent like chocolate pudding. We have a moose. I have a vanilla chia seed pudding. I mean, I did this on the view in January. I kind of teased it out. We weren't talking about the book directly. But I have these high fat like keto-esque desserts that you can have at night that have
Starting point is 00:56:22 zero protein, zero carbs. So if it has zero protein, zero carbs and it's only fat, what happens to your insulin? Does it go up or does it stay low? never goes up. So it's like cheating the fast. You can actually have some desserts like a chocolate moose tonight after your eating window. Does that make sense?
Starting point is 00:56:37 Makes total sense. Well, listen, I knew we were going to be doing this because we've been talking for a little while. But what I wanted to do, so what we try to do always on the show is present different perspectives, right? But at the same time, I know, like, okay, if we're going to present this to the audience, I'm trying. So I will say that I have been trying this for at least a month.
Starting point is 00:56:53 Nice. I'm still up every day at five. I'm in the gym, every day at six. I'm working all day. I'm not hungry. I'm not tired. I'm more focused. And so there is, like whenever I try something like this and get a perspective and, you know, I'll do what I can to take a stab at it.
Starting point is 00:57:05 I will say all the different types of, I want to say diets or practices that I've tried. Lifestyles. This has been probably the most effective for me personally. And so I think that anybody that's listening should at least, you know, do the research, you know, go check out Jorge. Go check out some other people. Figure out, you know, if this is right for you. But at least give it a try because it, for me, for me, it works. And really quick question, because I said we would mention.
Starting point is 00:57:29 What's the difference, is there a difference between the male and female with cruise control? Or is it the same all around? You know what? The body, it's all about insulin, right? And if we can keep our insulin levels low for 16 hours, your body goes through this autophagy, you know, and it's whether you're a little boy, a little girl, whether you're 80, 90, 5 years old, whatever, your body is going to react the same way. It's going to do that housekeeping. It's just built into our genetic code. It's part of our ancestral health.
Starting point is 00:57:56 I mean, this is the way, if you think about it, 2,000 years ago, I mean, you're going to, you know, You know, I grew up Catholic. You never see a fat picture of Jesus on the cross ever. He had a six-pack. Everyone back in that time period, you go back to three thousand years. You were lucky during the Spartan times, the Roman times, to have one good meal all the day. And you had to go hunt it down. That was your workout. Like, go find something to eat. You know, I mean, you didn't wake up and have a bowl of cereal and pop tarts. You didn't have a smoothie in the morning. That's what they used to call like gout the kings the seeds because he was the only one that was being gluttonous and getting all the food, right? You know, your history. Yeah. So, I mean, and now we've all become kings, unfortunately. And so literally ease of access to food. Yeah, it's so cheap because they subsidize this stuff. And that's why a lot of people are against me saying or others. I'm not saying there's a conspiracy theory, but there are a lot of companies that would not benefit by having a less meal. I mean, I'm not going to say Taco Bell and created the fourth meal. But you know, their ads a few years ago, they created the fourth meal. I mean, who needs a fourth meal? They did one, like a midnight meal, you know, go to Taco Bell
Starting point is 00:58:52 and eat some more tacos. I mean, whoa. We don't. We don't. don't need four meals a day. You don't, guys. Two is all you need. And I'm working on a book that's going to be a super burn edition of this for for people that really, like Lauren, I know you want to get like in sick shape, like even sicker, because you're gorgeous. Like you're beyond gorgeous. I want to be like Brooke Burke style. Yeah. Well, I mean, you're coming to Malibu. We're going to do booty burn. We're going to tree. Try to Nore. Okay. We'll go there. We'll go to know. Love. Love. Love gluten-free pasta. We'll eat spiralized noodles. I mean, do it all. We'll be very chic and Bougie in Malibald.
Starting point is 00:59:24 While Michael's in his infrared sauna. Oh, yes, of course. You're going to hook me up with that. You're going to tell me who to talk to. Of course, sunlight and sauna. But more importantly, we're going to enjoy life. I mean, that's what this program's about. You know, the subtitle of the book is about automating your life.
Starting point is 00:59:36 And it's a lifestyle for me, and I've been doing it now for over three years. And I have every celebrity I work with on this. And I can tell you, the results beyond losing weight is you disease proof your body, which right now, whatever age you're at, you know. There are people that are young people. Now I was on Revenge Body with Chloe, right? Chloe Kardashian. And the woman that I worked with Lauren was your name, she was not even 30. She was 28 years old, was morbidly obese at 274 pounds. I mean, I remember everything about it because I
Starting point is 01:00:03 worked with her for 12 weeks. She lost four pounds each week. Thank goodness. But it was hard on her. It really was this mind shift. But once you can get through that mind shift where food isn't a tool that uses you, that you use food. Love it. You got to use food like it's a tool like your iPhone. Like you're hopefully not addicted to your phone. You use it when you need it and you turn. it off when you don't need it, right? And you have time with your lady and you have time to, what is that time called? The purple time. That was the pink time. Oh, pink time. You have time for the pink time. Well, you know, listen, aging, like a lot of people don't look at aging like this, but aging is a disease. You know, and we can accelerate. It's a degenerative disease. Yeah. Or we can
Starting point is 01:00:38 be preventative. I mean, I hope, you know, Jillian looks gorgeous. I spent, you know, I was a Super Bowl weekend with her at her house and she's a little younger than me, but she looks so gorgeous. She's like a Brooke Burke in a different way, right? Yes. She's amazing. The skin looks amazing. Yeah. And she walks his talk, you know, and she understands. You know, she wrote that book on The Six Keys recently. That's really about longevity.
Starting point is 01:00:59 And this is one of her, she talks about it in her book. Before we go, I would like you, and this is a complete tangent off what we just talked about. Totally. To give a couple tangible tips to the audience about how the hell you've written 36 books. Is there writing time? Yeah. What do you do there? Just give us a quick spiel of how you do that because I want to know for my own selfish reasons.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Yeah, literally for 18 years, I wrote two books a year, right? That's how I got to this crazy number, and it's a lot. But back, you know, when my first book came out in 2001, I had really good advice from Tony Robbins. You know, and I love him this day. I was just with him in West Palm Beach at his business mastery. I went to David Destiny. I've been going to his events for 21 years. I'm like, you know, he has that movie on Netflix.
Starting point is 01:01:40 You guys all have to see called I'm not your guru, even though he's my guru. I don't tell him that because he hates it. He's like, but you are. You're like the guy. You're my big brother. He's like my big brother. He's 10 years older than me. And I'll tell you, he taught me that you want to model success.
Starting point is 01:01:54 And so for me, I looked at Tony and said, how did Tony write a book in six months? He gave me his insights. He gave me his secrets. And he interviewed me. And, you know, if anyone out there is thinking of writing, here's the number one thing you have to do. You have to write about something you're passionate about. Would you guys agree?
Starting point is 01:02:07 Because if you were writing about math or if I was writing about, like, algebra, I don't know, about the planets. I mean, not that I don't like space and all that, but I'd be lost. It'd take me a year to write a book on that. You have to what Gary Vee, you guys know Gary V says, you have to triple down your strengths, right? He says that all the time. So I tripled down on my passion, which is not being fat. I wanted to be fit. Gary Vee also says he doesn't give a fuck about Jupiter. Well, I don't know about Jupiter or Uranus probably. Okay, I'm joking. Let's not go there.
Starting point is 01:02:33 Let's not do that. We already did this. We already did this. No, he's just making the point of like, you know, you have to learn about space and stuff like that. Totally. Who cares? And so for me, you know, the secret learned for me was I found my passion because I studied political science at UCSD. I have a degree in that. I was going to go to law school. And I would have been off the wrong path and thank God Tony Robbins showed up in my life when I was 22 and got me to realize that health is the greatest wealth, right? You guys agree. Not just to be beautiful, to be hot, to be sexy, to have longevity, to have a libido where you can enjoy life. But so you, like, you don't have disease. So you don't feel like at 28, like this gal Lauren on revenge body, where she's morbidly
Starting point is 01:03:10 obese and she's getting married, but the doctors are saying, plan your, like, you know, you've got two more years and then you're going to be on all this stuff and you could die at 32. Like plan your funeral while you're planning your wedding? Is that insane? And you're not even 30. So that's what I'm saying. I'm not saying we have a lot of heavy listeners out there. But if you have weight to lose and you want to get rid of it, it also robs you of what I didn't have, which is confidence.
Starting point is 01:03:31 And I think the greatest gift health gives you. And you guys tell me how you guys feel, but it gives you what I would say is fucking confidence. And you need that edge in life to go after whatever it is you want to do, whether it's work, whether it's a relationship, whether, you know, I'm a dad. I have two kids. I have a 14-year-old in high school. I have a 12-year-old. I want to be active with them. We try to do fun trips, whether it's skiing or the Bahamas or Hawaii,
Starting point is 01:03:52 and I want to jump in the water with them. I don't want to be the dad that's like, ugh, my back. I want Michael to be that dad, too, why I sit on a chase lounge and sip champagne with my pinky up. Oh, I like that. Well, listen, I mean, I think people work so hard on their careers and the relationships and all these things, and then the health goes and it all becomes for nothing
Starting point is 01:04:09 because if you're sick or dying or whatever, when you've done all these other things, like clarity comes into effect real quick when all of a sudden you realize your health's gone. My gosh. And you can't buy it. It's the one thing you can't buy. And I've met so many wealthy people that have so much money, but they don't have health.
Starting point is 01:04:26 And you can't buy health. You can't. You have a billion dollars won't get you healthy. And yet all you have to do is understand how to eat in this eight-hour window, how to eat, hopefully, anti-inflammatory foods, and how to like hack your body. So you can't cheat the fast. You know, you can do that. And there's ways to do it.
Starting point is 01:04:42 You know, so I invite everyone to check out cruise control. Yes. Pimp yourself out. Where can they find you on Instagram, your book, everything. It's all at JorgeCruz.com. It's J-O-R-G-E-C-R-U-I-S-C. No relations to Tom Cruise. But, you know, my dad is a white man, so Cruz is not with the Z.
Starting point is 01:04:57 A lot of people misspelled it. But just Google me. They've been doing that my whole life. Everyone thinks I'm... Penelope Cruz is like younger brother, and bless her heart, I'm not. But, you know... Instagram? Everything is at Jorge Cruz, Facebook, everything.
Starting point is 01:05:10 You guys... I do a live stream at 5 a.m. on Facebook. You guys can join me on Instagram. Yeah, I post every day. Usually something good about health. And, you know, I'm so honored that I met you guys because I feel like I obviously owe a dead of thanks to Jillian. Yes. Jillian Michael's connected us.
Starting point is 01:05:24 Thank you for connecting us. Yeah, I love Jillian. And, you know, she is a kindred spirit. I feel like as much as everyone thinks that we're all these celebrity trainers out to fight each other and like, oh, we hate each other. She's been the most gracious. She's the sweetest woman I've ever met. She's so sweet. And to connect us here together and now that we can empower more women and men, I mean, I listen to this.
Starting point is 01:05:43 There's a few out there. There's a couple of men out there. Hopefully a smart man at least. Shout out to the guy that's in the bathroom with his girlfriend. The girlfriend's doing her makeup listening to us, and he's in the background. I'm getting a lot of runoff from, like, you know, the girls are listening. The guys are like, hey, maybe that's a couple. That was kind of smart there.
Starting point is 01:05:58 Yeah, yeah. So, and I'm excited with Dear Media. You guys are really doing some incredible stuff and I'm just honored to be a part of this. So thank you guys for having me on the show. It's going to be good. Thank you for coming on. That was so informative. I am off to have my butter in Yulin coffee.
