The following podcast is a dear media production.
All right.
So yes, the ice roller.
Everyone needs one.
It's the best.
It's superior.
But we just launched Mint Roller, okay?
And this is like ice therapy, cold therapy on the go.
You could be playing tennis.
You could be walking the baby in a stroller.
You could be working out.
You could be traveling.
The mint roller is for you.
So it's essentially a little compact, bite-sized ice roller.
This is going to save you time because you don't have to bring the big one with you.
And we made caps on each side and there's two rollers.
So you get the ice roller side, but you also get a contouring side.
And I like to use this on my cheekbones, on my jawline.
It's absolutely insane.
I've been traveling to L.A. for the last week.
And I cannot live without this thing.
I literally have it in my purse right now while we're podcasting.
It's really nice to travel with because it does have the caps on it.
it so it protects it and keeps the cold in. Definitely check out the mint roller. I have a code for you.
Go to shop skinny confidential.com and use code mint. You get 15% off the mint roller. That's
Shop Skinny Confidential code mint and the codes live until the end of June. Enjoy.
She's a lifestyle blogger extraordinaire. Fantastic. And he's a serial entrepreneur.
A very smart cookie. And now Lauren Everts and Michael Bostic are bringing you alone for the
ride. Get ready for some major realness. Welcome to the skinny confidential, him and her.
If you're someone that is having a hard time getting dressed every day, but you have that
jean, good tea, blazer, pointed toe shoe, you can really go anywhere. That's like a great just kind
of capsule to have. Even if you're someone who's not interested in fashion, like get that in a bunch
of different colors and you're going to look great every day. But then find that one accessory that's
you. Maybe that's like a really cool earring from heaven mayhem. Maybe that's a bag that you love.
For me, the accessory is a classic back black bag that looks good with everything that I have in my closet,
that if I'm running out the door, I pick it up and I go.
But for you, that might be a really cool earring or a great bracelet.
It just has to be this accessory that is true to your personal style that can let you shine through in your everyday clothes.
Today, I decided to kick Michael off the show.
I just felt like he wasn't relevant for this episode.
You know what I mean?
He doesn't need to be on every show.
We're sitting down with Liv Perez.
She is a fashion it girl. People love to go to live for seeking style advice. And I had a conversation
with her that's surrounded personal style, how to elevate your look, closet staples, how to do a
clean out, how to reorganize what to invest in, classic accessories. And I just asked her all of these
super girly fashion questions that we all want to know. What I like about this episode personally is I just
recently did a closet clean out. And she actually inspired me to do this. And then what I did is I took
inventory of my closet. I took every single piece in my closet, took a picture of it. I'm putting it in a
drop box currently. If anyone has a good app, let me know. And I am going to have like a shared
drop box album of my clothes. So if I ever want to be styled or I need to share my wardrobe,
it's just all efficiently organized.
And this was all inspired by Liv.
Liv also has a podcast on Dear Media called Let's Get Dressed.
And she's interviewed some major fashionate girls.
So she really, really knows what it takes to have a look, to have a go-to style.
And I think nowadays it's even more important to have a brand and have a point of
you when it comes to your style.
You guys also have to check out the episode that I'm on.
she grills me on all things fashion. On that note, let's welcome the one and only Live
Perez to the show. This is the skinny confidential, him and her. I am kicking Michael off
some episodes lately. I'm kicking him off the episodes that are for the girls. Like, I just don't think
that we need to hear the monologue from him when it comes to some things and fashion's one of them.
I think it's important to know when your voice is needed and when it's not
Not. A hundred percent. Coming from the podcasters. Today, it's just, we just don't need him. I went on your
podcast. Let's get dressed. I had the best time and you asked me all these questions that I hadn't been
asked before. And it was fun and it was, it was girly and feminine. And so I'm really excited to have you on
our podcast today. So welcome, live to the podcast. Thank you. It's an honor. As I call the queen mother of
media. Happy to be here. Do you hear that, Taylor? Take a picture. Okay. First of all, let's talk about
the five closet staples that are non-negotiable that people have to have, and we're going to gear this
towards women. Great. I would start with a great everyday shoe that's elevated, that's not a
sneaker. And I say that because as I just turned 30, I feel like the way I'm dressing every day
is, you know, not like I'm running to college classes anymore. I want to look elevated. I'm going to
meetings. I'm, you know, coming here to record a podcast and say a friend wants to have dinner right
afterwards, I want to be able to go from here to there and not to have to go to home and change.
One thing with shoes that I really recommend for people is getting a pointed toe flat because
that pointed toe really gives you that height elevation and can really transform any look.
Versus today, you can see I'm kind of wearing a ballet flat. It's like a rounded toe. They're Chanel,
so they work for anything, in my opinion.
But the pointed toe would make this look a little bit more versatile for day to night.
So a pointed toe flat could have like a one or two inch heel if you want,
but that to me is the perfect everyday shoe that gets you everywhere.
I think, obviously, and this is something I've talked about on my pot a lot,
a good pair of jeans can change your whole life.
And I think people really underestimate how important it is to find your fit and your wash
that works with everything in your closet.
I have, like last year, I'd say I have about five to six pairs of jeans in my closet
that I would rotate two, but not one that I'd go in my closet every morning and be like,
I'm putting this pair on and it goes with everything in my closet and it makes my body look
amazing.
And I finally found that pair at the beginning of this year.
And it has dramatically changed the way I get dressed.
What's the brand?
They're from a Nina Bang.
They're called the Gavin jeans.
For my body type, I have really long legs, short torso.
They're hide-wasted.
They stop at my ankles.
They really elongate me and they look great.
Can I tell you something?
I don't know how to pronounce anything.
I thought it was Annie Bing.
So everybody does.
Oh, okay.
Yes.
I believe she's Swedish.
I only recently learned that it's a Nina.
Okay.
But yes, it's anina bang.
Okay.
Is there a certain cut or are all the jeans good?
I really love all their jeans, but the one that I'm specifically talking about that's
worked for my body shape is the Gavin gene.
They're that cropped style.
But for you, you're a little bit taller.
and every time I see you, you're in like a floor length kind of boot cut gene, and I love that style on you.
It's really about preference in my mind when it comes to denim. And also I would say wash. Like the wash
that works for me in my closet might not work for you in your closet. I like a little bit of a darker
gene, a little bit more of like a true blue denim, but you might love a light wash and that might go
with the tones in your closet. So I really recommend finding that pair that one works proportionally
with your body and then also tonally with your closet.
After that, I would say a black blazer can get you anywhere in life. You and I talked about that a lot on the pod, whether it was our sweatpants and blazer era or even now, like just going to meetings. If you are wanting to splurge big time, the Dior Bar jacket is the best jacket on planet Earth. There is truly nothing better in my mind. The fit, the shape, the construction is elite. But obviously, that's not the only one I have in my closet. I also love one.
from Mauritia. The shape is really great. The quality is great. And you can probably get that for
around $250 versus the price tag on a D.R. Bar jacket. So I would say a great blazer.
After that, I would say a great tea. If white's not your color, a great black tea, great
tea, great tea, whatever it is, whatever your tea color is. You and I talked about teas a lot.
You love the Spanx ones, right? Spanx LoungeWars sets. Okay, it wasn't that.
White tea. I'm James Pearish.
Oh, wow. Really?
Fierce, yeah. Or...
Or...
It's purse. I should know that, but I don't know.
Maybe I know guys wherever.
I'm scared to speak because everyone gets mad.
Or Victoria Beckham makes a great tea in the row.
That's good to know.
So does...
St. Laurent has a great black oversized tea.
Go on.
I haven't tried those.
I like Shop RLT, which is a female run store in Los Angeles.
She curates amazing vintage and also has an incredible line of basic.
She's on Beverly Boulevard across from Air One, which is very convenient for probably a lot of you listening.
And I also love Eternay, which I know you love to.
that brand. We have to stay here for one second. That was my first job in fashion. I worked for her and her twin
sister as a stylist assistant. She has an eye for how to flatter the body. Yes. There's something that
she does in those clothes that is, it's not like flattering. It's the ultimate flatter. Yes. I think
for having styled people for a decade plus, she really knows how to construct clothes that lay well for long
periods of time. I'm sure a lot of you have had those experiences where you put something on in the
morning and by the afternoon it doesn't look quite right. Like it's stretched a little bit, it's
wrinkled a little bit. Like I think her teas have great longevity and elasticity. And that's what
you want in a tea. Like you want that feeling that it's going to last. Also, this is weird, but like
the blouses, she designs a little longer to cover the hands, which makes your arm look longer.
Or she does like something to the shoulder that like makes your shoulders flattered. It's very, very
unique the way she designs. And it makes so much sense that she was a stylist for so long and that
you worked for her. That's very full circle. Yes. Go ahead. And then I would say the last one is
I'll take it broad, but I'll also kind of go micro in terms of what works in my closet. I would say
it needs to be like an accessory that makes an outfit you. Like for example, if you're someone that is
having a hard time getting dressed every day, but you have that gene, good tea, blazer,
pointed toe shoe, you can really go anywhere. That's like a great just kind of capital.
capsule to have, even if you're someone who's not interested in fashion, like, get that in a bunch
of different colors and you're going to look great every day. But then find that one accessory that's
you. Maybe that's like a really cool earring from heaven mayhem. Maybe that's a bag that you love.
For me, the accessory is a classic black bag that looks good with everything that I have in my closet,
that if I'm running out the door, I pick it up and I go. But for you, that might be a really cool
earring or a great bracelet. It just has to be this accessory that is true to your personal style that
can let you shine through in your everyday clothes.
What's a high and low black bag that's amazing?
Great question.
My high is the St. Laurent Manhattan bag.
I love this bag.
People kind of call it the like Hermes Birkin dupe or Kelly dupe because it has those
like clasps in the front.
But it's really chic and refined and honestly looks good with everything in my closet and I
know will long term.
I also have a saying that if you love something and it works buy it in every color and I have
with that bag.
I have it in a lot of different colors because it just hits. And like, you know that feeling when
something hits. Like, it just feels so good. And you're like, yep, that's me. So that's that bag for me.
I would say affordable. I've got to think on that one. I have to think too. Yeah. I actually do.
Because I'm not going to lie from a personal perspective, bags are investment pieces for me. And I will
usually go a little bit more elevated. I will say if you're someone who likes designer bags and they're
out of reach for you or they're not something you like to invest in. Anthropology makes incredible
bags. They, first of all, curate a really great affordable selection. I'd say like $250 to $500 range.
They do make great dupes, I will say. I've been on there quite a few times and seen some
really similar designer moments. And I also like the quality of their bags. Every time I've
gotten something from them, I've been like this, this is great. And it's very accessible and fashion
forward, which I like. When I was in college,
and I was on a huge budget.
I would go in Forever 21.
And if you just get a plain white or black or gray bag from Forever 21,
I remember I had like this like,
I don't even know what the shape is,
like a huge like half moon shape.
And it was just gray and it was plain.
And it fit everything and I used it all the time.
Like you can be savvy on a budget.
Absolutely.
With my style,
there are moments where I like to invest in things,
especially where I'm at right now in my life,
I like to buy pieces that I'm investing in for the long run.
That's where I'm at.
But five years ago, I was not at the point that I'm at.
And I do the Today Show now, and I share fashion trends and different looks with millions of viewers on the show.
And the one thing that I'm really passionate about when I'm doing that is everything's under $100.
Everything is for that approachable, accessible fashion lover.
And I really do believe that style comes from within. It's not about the price tag that you're wearing. And there have been many times where I've gotten incredible outfits from brands like Mango and H&M and just taken it to my local tailor at my dry cleaner and made it fit my body really well. And people have been like, where's that suit from? It's amazing. And I was able to say, yeah, I spent, you know, maybe $100 on it and just nipped and tucked it a little bit in a great way that flatters me. And that's what I really think fashion's about. It's a savvy business. What are a couple things underwere?
$100 that you think are just insane?
Insane in what way?
They just, they're great.
You talk about them on the Today Show.
Like, what are things that you're just like, you know what?
This is an amazing dupe.
It's under $100.
I need.
So when I would say two brands that I look at frequently when I'm doing the Today Show,
one is actually Abercrombie.
They did a major rebrand this year.
And everything that they have on that website is really great,
especially with summer coming up and like wedding season coming up,
Abercrombie actually has an entire section of like best
dress wedding guests items, and it's very good. Men's linen suits that are amazing, amazing
women's dresses. So that's what I would say if you're looking for great everyday clothes.
I also would shout out brands like Tony Bianco, which is a little bit higher than $100,
but also does a great job of having what I like to call designer inspired pieces, but without
the price tag. Those I think usually are about $200, $250, but I've shared them a lot on my
Instagram because a lot of my followers will come to me and say, hey, I'm looking for a more
affordable version of this. And that's a brand that I like to share a lot. Lastly, Jay Crew is killer.
Jay Crew went through also a big rebrand in the past year and their creative director, Olympia Gaiio,
which I don't know when this episode's coming up, but she'll be on let's get dressed very soon.
She's someone who I deeply admire in the fashion industry and has really changed that brand.
And the pieces are so good for every day. But also, I remember this past holiday season,
which was six months ago already now.
But they had such good holiday.
Like they had like the sequin red skirt with the red sweater and everything was at a great price point.
So those brands that are heritage American brands, I think don't overlook them because maybe you've heard about them your entire life.
They really are doing great stuff in fashion right now.
There is this top that one of my stylist, Emily Lafayette was wearing.
And it was like it had like a shoulder pad and it was short sleeve and it was red.
and it had gold buttons on it.
And she was wearing it on her birthday.
And I was like, what brand is that?
It's so cute.
She's like, it's Jay Crew.
I went on, it might have been more long sleeve, not short sleeves.
Sorry.
And I went on and I got it in blue to like you said, you're like by different colors.
It looks, it looks like it's $2,000.
Yeah.
They make some great stuff.
I also want to shout out to other brands that I think do really fashion forward stuff.
One of them is a brand that I'm actually not sure how it's pronounced.
It's NA-KD, so naked.
I think they're based in Sweden.
I'm not sure they're somewhere in Europe,
but they have really affordable pieces that are at a great price point.
Oh, and Mango.
Mango is, in my opinion, if you are,
if like the Zara H&Ms of the world is where you look,
I would really recommend looking at Mango
because I think that they're in the same price point,
but they have a little bit more of a design edge to it.
They just did an unbelievable collaboration with Victoria Beckham
and, you know, me and Whitney Port at Dear Media IRL this weekend,
we're wearing the entire collection because we had just gotten it and loved it, and it looked so good.
You looked adorable.
That was Tori Birch, but Whitney was during her panel, during our panel,
was wearing the Victoria Becca Mango Blazer, and it looked amazing.
Very, very, very cute, I must say.
Something that I personally am obsessed with is tones.
I feel like every time I see you, I'm like, tones.
When I was little, like, I remember, like, looking at certain books or colors.
in the crayon box and like putting tones together. I like love tones. And even on Instagram,
like it has, it just has to be the right tone for me. And I think that this is something that's not
talked about enough when it comes to close. Walk us through tones. So I'm going to be
totally real here. I think tones is like a life journey that everyone's on. Yeah. It's a little
difficult for me now when I go on social media and I see everybody doing kind of the tone, the tone girl
who's going through and doing the color toning. Sorry, I'm making this motion because, you know, she like goes through and does the different colors. I just feel like personal style and fashion is an evolution and something that you figure out through life. There's never a period on the end of it. And I never really want to be restricted to not wearing one thing because someone said that that tone doesn't work for me. Something you and I have also talked about is that you have to take into account that your tone could change. Like even today, I sat down and I said, you dyed your hair. And I only know.
notice that because your face looked warmer because of your hair color. So tone changes. And,
you know, I get spray tans. I know you do too. Like, even my tone changes then. So I am
slightly weary of the like color scheming situation because of the fact that, you know,
we are not like we're not in a constant state of the same thing all the time. Change my color,
change my skin tone, you know, do a spray tan. All that kind of changes. I will say, though,
that something that I did this year that I really liked was I actually went.
in my closet and something I do passionately is clean out my closet. And when I clean out my closet,
I make a very conscious effort to give myself enough time in the day where I can try on
everything as I'm cleaning out. So my routine is that I wish I could delegate that.
I totally get it. For me, it's something that is like kind of, it's like self-care for me.
I really enjoyed doing it and it's not for everybody. But I make an effort to try everything on.
And while I'm doing that, I'm taking photos of myself in the mirror.
And that's a really good way to see if a tone works for you.
I think IRL, you can't really tell if it's hitting.
But in a photo, you'll be able to be like, that washes me out a lot.
For me and my skin tone, I stay away from pastels.
So like a light green, a light beige, like those don't really work for me.
And again, I think that that's something that you have to do your own kind of trial and error with
and know that you can go do these like color swatching things,
but it's,
don't limit yourself to just that and really do it based on like what actually
feels good for you and like when you see a picture of yourself,
what you like.
All right.
I am traveling this week and one thing that I never forget to travel with is base.
Base has this cosmetic bag and I actually don't use it for my cosmetics.
I use it for my skincare.
It fits every piece of my skincare in this beautiful bag and it organizes it.
and it organizes it, and it just makes me feel efficient and effective, because I can be kind of a
chaotic traveler, but Bass has this bag that is like the bag that every woman needs, whether it's
for your makeup or your skin care. I even will, like, throw my skinny confidential ice roller in there,
my razor. It just fits everything so nicely. They really thought of everything. And it makes sense
because Bass was created by actress Shay Mitchell, and her whole mission is to create sleek and affordable
bags. They also have packing cubes, which I use all the time. Luggage, accessories. Everything is designed
to help you to travel effortlessly while looking fabulous. Their luggage is awesome. It comes in multiple
sizes. They did a collab with Lonely Ghost, which is amazing. The red one is so chic. They have a
weekender bag, which is super functional. And of course, they gave you guys a code. This is amazing.
They have over 30,000 five-star reviews. People love their stuff. Right now, Bace is offering our
listeners, 15% off your first purchase, you're going to visit basestravel.com slash skinny.

If you want to feel at home long before you even got there, get Delta. They have curated
travel experiences created just for you. They're always delivered with welcome and caring service.
And I know this because I love flying Delta. You should know they have everything from plant-based
dishes to bamboo cutlery to organic gluten-free nutrient-packed snacks. And don't forget about the
cookies. My favorite part, though, truly, is the fast-free Delta Wi-Fi. It's available for Sky Miles
members. I am a Sky Mile member, so is Michael. And it's so easy to get online and work. I
really like to get in there when I'm flying. I like to get in on my email. My whole team like freaks out
when they know I'm flying because that means really great Wi-Fi and like silence if I'm not traveling
with kids. You can also get an herbal tea, a cold brew, a sparkling wine and more and sit and just
experience the comforts of home when you're in flight. I like things to be efficient. I like to be
spending my time wisely and to sit on my email while I'm being served a warm tea or a sparkling
wine while I'm having amazing Wi-Fi is the move for me. You may not be home yet, but Delta Airlines
helps you feel a little bit like it. Delta Airlines believes you should feel at home, even if you're
30,000 feet above it. Learn more at delta.com. I also think this is like weird, but like if I have a big
red pimple on my face, I'm not going to wear a red. If I, I don't know if I have like a yellow
tint to my skin because I'm hung over, I'm not going to throw on yellow. How many times have you been like
maybe planning an outfit because you're going to a wedding the summer, for example.
And you put the dress on, maybe you show it to a friend or two. And they say, oh, but like,
that with a suntan and gold jewelry will look great. Yeah. That happens to me all the time. And that's
why the color toning tests for me kind of, that's where it loses its merit, because that also is a
valuable point. It's like, oh, you know, in the summer when I'm a bit tanner, like, that will look
great. And I bet you if she did a color test on me, she'd be like, orange isn't your color. But if I put it
on the summer, like, I love how I feel in orange. So I always, I think of fashion from a point of
how it makes you feel. And maybe that's a little bit emotional. And I know that you come from it
from a very scientific so we can meet halfway here. But for me, it's about what what makes you feel
good. And like, if orange makes me feel good and she told me, I can't wear orange. I'm just, I'm
I love it. Be brutal with the next question I'm going to ask you. Okay. What are things that you just
think are out? Like, you are just like, no. Like, what are things that's just dating? And
It doesn't. And be really honest. Like, we're not hurting anyone's feelings. I want to know what you look at and you're just like, that's a miss.
I don't love the mesh shoe moment right now. It's not really for me.
The mesh shoe. How like, you know, and that happened about a year ago, Alia came out with a mesh ballet flat where you can like see people's toes.
Yeah, I could go without seeing toes. Yeah. I don't love it. Again, it doesn't work with my personal style. But we had Gab Waller on the podcast at the top of the year and asked her, you know, what she was predicting to be.
a huge trend for the year. And she blew my mind when she said that in the prior year,
2023, her number one biggest seller was a mesh ballet flat from Eliah. I was shocked by that.
Over like all the incredible bags, over the mu mu meoes, over like the top sellers in fashion,
it was the mesh ballet flat. But don't you think this and this is like, I don't want to do
what everyone's doing. Like, I'll give you an example. When the mob wife thing came out,
I'm like, oh, I'm going to retire my fur coats for a while. Do you know what I'm
I just, it's like, I don't want to look like everyone all the time.
I think this is, one, you're in social media.
So when this stuff comes up in front of you, it can feel very overwhelming.
And I have had that too.
I can also recognize that like not everyone's in social media.
And some people enjoy that point of inspiration.
One thing I will say with trends like that that we see on Instagram is that one
thing I'm very conscientious of talking about with even my audience right now and personal
style in the day and age of social media is that I think.
think we've gotten a little too comfortable with seeing an outfit on TikTok, Instagram,
and Pinterest and, like, copy-pasting all, everything that you see tagged and buying that exact
outfit and wearing it yourself.
Like, there's no, like, personal style to it.
Well, it's a good thing and a bad thing, because I think fashion inspiration is amazing in
every form.
But I think we've gotten a little comfortable with just, you know, taking part in the trends
that we're seeing and the looks that we're seeing on Instagram.
Like, and that for me, I think is the slippery slope of trends and things.
things that are in on Instagram. Look, if you were to say to me, Liv, I love these mesh shoes.
Like, I had not even thought about them before. And now that they're big, I'm seeing them everywhere,
I got them from my closet and I loved them. Great. All the power to you. But for me, I want to be
able to say, like, that's not my style. That doesn't work for me and, like, not feel like I have to
give in to wear it. I love that. Is there any other misses that you think are just not it?
I'm still surprised when I see a skinny gene. A skinny gene. Talk to me about that.
A skinny gene. I'm still surprised when I see, like, a very skin.
tight skinny gene. I feel like we've, I feel like there are so many other styles of jeans today
that work for all body types and all different styles. I have a lot of styling clients who only
still have skinny jeans because they feel like they've kind of still had to wear those. And like,
that's the only thing that's out there. And I always want to say that like, oh no, what about a boot cut?
Like, what about a high waist? Like, I just think that that jeans in the past five years, like,
Think of how many different styles have come out.
Like I see a lot more boot cuts.
I see you in a boot cut a lot.
I see the low rise, which I think right now has had a very great, a very different iteration
than in the early 2000s when I think it promoted a very not healthy standard of body image.
Today, I see a lot more different stylings of low rise jeans.
I just think there's more to play with.
And not to say, by the way, if you love skinny gene, I am here for you, I ride for you.
I love it.
But I think a lot of people still feel stuck in that and haven't branched out to try anything new because that's like the thing that they love.
What are little things that you think really make an outfit and can you get detailed on it?
For instance, like what's the belts to wear if we want to be flattered?
Like the earrings, the accessories, the hair, the nails, like all the little things.
So there was a trend going around on TikTok for a while that I absolutely loved.
that was, you know, someone going in front of the camera. And the caption would say,
this is why style makes all the difference. And it would be someone in a white tea, jeans, a blazer,
and like a black, and maybe no shoes yet, right? And then all of a sudden, it would, you know,
do that, like, cute transition on TikTok where it would be like, like, you know, you'd see the look
and then it would like change to a completely new moment. And it would be, you know, a high waisted
gene with a belt that cinched at the waist. So it gave you a little bit of a great proportion.
It would be a beautiful dangly earring that, or like any type of earring that you like that
match the belt. I do think that if you're, I'm not a big, I like mixing metals if it's like a
you know, say for example, you're wearing a tennis bracelet that has like white diamonds in it,
but the base of the tennis bracelet's gold. I don't like mixing. Like for example, I would say never
wear a gold watch with like a giant silver earring. Got it. That's a,
So it sounds like you like a dainty situation. Like I'm wearing a silver watch, but I have little
gold rings. That's fine. That to me is fine. I just, if you were wearing this silver watch right now and
you had giant gold earrings on, I'd be like that's not working. Don't you also feel like there's,
it's competing? Yes. Like, yeah. It's, I don't like for, this is like a different scenario, but like
when it's like a red lip and like dark eye shadow. Exactly. It's like, I feel like you need to pick.
You pick a moment. And I completely agree with that makeup moment. That feels too heavy for me.
but I also feel like it competes.
I also have a rule that if you're wearing a belt,
that belt needs to match your shoes.
That's a me thing.
Again, personal style is personal to everybody.
But if I'm wearing a brown belt,
I'm wearing brown shoes and probably a brown bag with it.
Do you like the sandwich method?
What's the sandwich method?
This thing on TikTok where they want the,
Ariel, Google it so we know exactly what it is.
I think it's the shirt has to match the shoes.
No, I don't love that.
Huh?
Yeah, because you should do a TikTok on it.
I'm going to.
So what if, but what if I'm wearing like a white t-shirt and like my black ballet flats?
I love trends like that that start on TikTok because, again, I think my favorite thing about fashion is that you can have zero part in it.
You can have zero idea what's going on in the fashion world, not know a single name brand.
But at the end of the day, you still have to get up every day and put something on that makes you feel good, that presents yourself to the world.
So no matter what, if you're like, oh, I don't follow fashion, you kind of have to.
And it's like that universal language that everyone on this planet has to pay attention to.
Every culture, every way of dressing, no matter what.
We all care about feeling our best at the end of the day.
And that's why I love it so much.
And so when trends like this happen on TikTok, I value those because there are some people who it's not, like there are so many people and so many people in my community who I've connected with that it's not easy for them to get dressed every day.
It's not second nature to them.
And they need tips like that to figure it out.
It makes it digestible.
Yes, and I love that.
Like, I love when people come up with those systems.
I haven't heard of it.
So I even love that I'm, maybe I'll try it.
Maybe.
I feel like you should stitch it and try it and do it.
Yeah.
Okay, this one is one of my favorite questions.
What are the most flattering things that you could do?
And I mean like so flattering.
Like, is it the tightest belt?
Is it a long sleeve shirt?
What, like, what are the, like, tell us the most flattering things.
And, you know, for me, like, after I had a baby, like, I was like, fuck, what do I wear?
Like, I felt like I'm rolling around like a roly-poly.
Like, what are the flattering, flattering things?
Yeah, I mean, I'm going to give you guys something that costs no money at all because I think
it's not about that when you're getting dressed.
Your hair can change your whole outfit.
Your hair can literally change everything about what you're wearing.
If you are wearing just a blazer and a white tea and jeans and you throw your hair up
in a bun, if that looks good on you, if that's not your cup of tea, we can find you
something else. But for me, that's always been a really easy way to make something feel maybe a
little bit more sophisticated or give it a different life. And I've actually done so many videos on my
social media where you can see me go from like day to night. And usually the day is like my hair down,
a little bit more casual. And then as I'm changing tonight, my hair goes back and I'm throwing on like
a gorgeous earring that makes my skin and hair and eyes glow. And I think for me, that's always been
my best styling hack is like what you do around this like top half area.
that kind of gives you a different life.
And that's why, again, I was saying earlier
that, like, one of my favorite things that you need in your closet
is a really good accessory, like a really good earring,
that is kind of your go-to.
And I actually loved the device that you gave on,
let's get dressed, where, you know,
you were talking about the different metals
and how they impact your eyes.
Like, if you're tired, not to, you know,
the reds in your eyes, like, or the yellows in your eyes
will get accentuated by a gold earring.
Like, all of that was very valuable.
how you were saying, like, wear a bright, bright white diamond because that brings the whites out in your teeth and your eyes.
Those are all very valuable tips.
Besides the earrings, though, I think your hair can really make the world of difference.
Like, getting a great blowout can change everything.
I also think like...
Throwing my hair back and like has really...
It's so simple, guys, but I just think that it's a very...
Paying attention to...
Like, I'll give you guys a great example.
Today, I'm wearing this blazer that's brown, and I'm wearing, you know, a little pink sweater
underneath it. If my blazer had really big shoulder pads in it, there would be a lot going on
in like my shoulder face area. Pulling my hair back would allow you to just focus on those
shoulder pads so that there's not those two competing elements, if that makes sense. Totally.
Like, you're not competing with like my hair on top of the shoulder pads.
I think that the hair tip is genius.
This is a really weird one and people are going to think that I'm psychotic.
But if you wear a really low ponytail, it's going to bring the eye down.
I never wear a low ponytail.
If you're going to do a bun, you want to pull the bun back.
So it's pulling the eye up.
You don't want the super low bun that's on the bottom of the neck because when someone looks at you, it's going to pull the eye down, which is aging.
Right. So for me, whenever I ask my hairstylist for a ponytail, I'm like, even if it's in the middle of the head, I'm like pull up and then put it in the middle. Does that make sense? And I have, I love that you understand what I'm saying. I do. And to like kind of go deeper into that, I have like very fine thin hair. So I can really throw my hair like back to the center of my head very easily. Yes. But for those of you who might have like thicker hair, I would take the like front, the front piece of your hair out, throw the rest of your hair back and then position that like front.
piece, those front two pieces to shape your face how you would like. Like to be perpendicular
to the ear as opposed to pulling it down. Yes. Like you don't, I don't like to pull anything down.
I don't like to pull my eyebrow down when I'm filling it in. I like to pull it up. I don't like
to pull it up. I don't like my eyeliner to go down. I like it to go up. I don't want my lip
liner to go. Like, I like to pull everything up. Of course. Don't we all? Don't we all guys?
Like pull everything up.
I mean, I just pull it all.
Bitch, you're crazy.
No, not at all.
I love your take on fashion.
Like, fashion for me, it is so great because you and I are on opposite sides of the spectrum.
And that's why actually, I love every time I see you and the questions you ask me.
Because it's like we meet at this halfway point.
And I think that that's what's most valuable to people.
It's like, of course we want to feel good.
But we also want like the data science driven way to get dressed.
And there's a medium there.
You know, I think about so many times.
that I've worn or like places I've been out in the world and people will be like, oh, you look so,
like, I often get told and I'm very grateful for this. It's very kind. But people always be like,
you look so elegant or you do look very chic. And a lot of it is because I pull my hair back and I
let my outfit speak for myself. I even think about right now, like I think there's a big craze of like
the tiny bob. Like even at the Oscars this year, there were like 30 people in bobs. And I think
the reason a lot of people like it, especially, you know, seeing it in these red carpet moments,
seeing it in street style is because it really just lets the outfit talk. It doesn't compete with
the clothes. That makes total sense. And I think the thing that I have trouble with is like there was
this woman. I don't know who it was that said when you're over, I think 35, you need to cut your hair.
Do you remember this? It was like in the 80s. She told everyone, I can't remember who it was.
If anyone knows, like let me know over Instagram. She said, you have to cut your hair off at a certain
age. And to me, I'm like, no, you can have your, like I actually, look at Demi Moore.
I mean, you know, that's her real hair.
It's her real hair.
It's gorgeous.
It is down to the backs of her knees, you guys.
And that's why I do think that fashion and hair, whatever, and beauty is so fun, because
you can play with it.
And you don't have to cut.
Remember, I don't know if my mom cut her hair like a boy cut in the 90s.
So did mine.
And she looks fab, and now I'm kind of like.
No, it's fun, but it's like someone's telling you like you have to have this certain
hairstyle or you look older.
I disagree.
I think like you can manipulate it how you want.
it when you want it to whatever you want it.
I also think that those rules really
really bother me.
Like, I think there's a woman
who I follow on Instagram who I love.
So her name is Venn's Wifestyle on Instagram,
V-E-N-S-Wifestyle.
And I think that she is in her 50s.
I might be wrong.
But she basically says, like,
every video opens with, like, words on the screen
saying, like, I'm in my 50s
and this is how I style this look
that Kendall Jenner just wore on the cover of Vogue.
Like, she gives me.
so much joy. And like as someone who's a fashion lover and like it's my life and it's been my life
since I was a teenager, I don't ever want to feel like I have to change my style as I get older.
I always want to be able to have fun with it and feel like myself. And so she's a creator that I love
because it's, you know, it makes fashion accessible. And I think it also lets people know that
you know, at any age, fashion's there. I love it. I think that is a genius. She's amazing.
Before you go, I know this isn't about.
fashion but I need to know your beauty wellness health diet secrets so just sometimes I'm just like
go off yeah so I am two months away from getting married when we're recording this which is the end of
the beginning of May I'm getting married in July and so I've been deep in the beauty world which I feel
like you've inspired me so much first there's a woman in L.A. who I love her name is Hannah and she does
my nails once a month and we do I actually don't know what these are called I think is this a Russian manny I
I don't know. People keep telling me that it is. But it's basically a hard gel on my nails.
And I do the same color every time I do this like milky strawberry pink. And it's just helped my nails so much.
Like I also really appreciate the way that she takes it off after a month. She doesn't like scrub them off.
It's probably a Russian manicure.
I think it is. Sorry, guys, that I don't know. But my nails are stronger than ever.
And the fact that I don't have to go every two weeks and get them done, I think is really helped. Keep in mind, I had such brittle, terrible nails for a long time.
So this is like a game changer for me.
And last time you saw me too, you were like, I love your nails.
Yeah, your nails look really pretty.
So that's a good one for me.
Pre-wedding, I'm doing something at VH skin, Vanessa Hernandez's skin in L.A., which I love.
She does all my facials and I'm obsessed with them there in Brentwood.
I'm doing something called the PRX peel, which I'm sure you know.
Oh, it's basically a no-peel peel.
I've done it before and I absolutely love it.
If you're someone like you and me who's constantly on the go in front of the camera a lot
or maybe you're in an office and you don't have the downtime for a real peel, it kind of just feels
First of all, when you first do it, the next day, it feels like you got a sunburn.
It's your skin feels so tight.
Like, unbelievably tight.
And actually what I really noticed and then, sorry, I'll explain the process.
Your skin gets very tight.
And then three to four days later, you'll peel mildly like the sunburn's coming off.
However, you don't have the sunburn color.
You don't get red.
None of that.
And the peeling is so manageable.
Like, I was out and about doing podcasts and nobody noticed.
The biggest thing that I noticed, one, like my tone.
and texture was a lot better, but my skin was so much tighter. Like the wrinkles around my eyes,
like really tightened. It kind of felt like a mini facelift. So I'm doing that every two weeks.
I'm doing three in a row. Love to just get to like the bottom, like the root of my skin and give me
like the freshest face pre-wedding. So I love that. I'm a big hot yoga girl. I go to heated room
here in L.A. I love like a sweat. I love a good sweat. And I do that probably twice week. I'm also a big
walker. I feel like walking culture in L.A. Like that's my time.
time. Like, it's my 45 minutes where, like, I'm either being productive with it where I'm
catching up with a friend. And, like, in the morning, I'll schedule that before I start my workday.
So if there's a friend who I don't get to see often, like, you're kind of killing two birds with
one stone. Or I'm on a call or I'm listening to a news podcast. And I can walk my dog at the same time.
So that's kind of where I'm out. I'm trying to think other beauty things that I love. I see Matt
Res in L.A. for my hair who I love. He's an icon. He does literally everybody's hair.
And I really like once a month take this one day out of my schedule to do all of my beauty things.
I'll like go get the facial.
I'll go do my nails.
I'll go get my hair glossed.
And I make a conscious effort to like do it all in one day so that I give myself that time.
Like it's me time.
This is like my one day to like do all the things that make me feel good.
And as an entrepreneur who's like running a podcast, running my socials, you know, writing for different magazines, all the things.
Like having that day once a month, that's like my me time has helped if you're like a productivity nerd like me.
Like that's how you get it done.
I call it the car wash.
Absolutely, Lauren.
It's the car wash.
I go through the car wash in L.A.
But when I'm in Austin, the car wash is not car washing.
Every time you're here, like you're doing something fab, you're getting your salmon seem individual.
You're doing all the things.
And yes, it's the car wash day.
And I found that the way I was doing it before where like I had like a nail appointment in the middle of
day on this week and then a hair appointment in the middle of the day this week, it wasn't good
for my productivity. No, it's disruptive. Yes. If you're someone who works for yourself or whatever your
situation is, like try to make it where it's like that day, like where it's just for you.
