Starting point is 00:01:18 who thought he was above the law until we came together to take him down. I said, you're going to see my face till the day that you die. I got you. I got you.

Starting point is 00:02:36 I'll be there reporting live, most likely, in my pajamas. See you there. I'm a homegirl that knows a little bit about everything and everybody. You know if you don't lie about that, right? Lauren came in hot. Hey, y'all, what's up? It's Lauren the Rosa, and this is the latest with Lauren the Rosa. this is your daily dig on all things pop culture entertainment news and all of the conversations that shake the room baby so today we are you know getting into another holiday conversation that is
Starting point is 00:03:09 going to shake the room for show for show and we're going to have someone on the line we have an anonymous caller uh you know here at the latest with la Rosa we get on the line with the lowriders and just hear how they're feeling and what they have to say so we were here we were having a conversation about the holidays and you're seeing all the celebrities at this point with the gifting and the you know all of the the fine things that they do for their significant others some of the biggest celebrities have been all up and down our timeline with the gifts that they've been giving that they've been receiving so we want to know what is too soon how soon is too soon to buy holiday gifts for someone that you are dating so brandon is here with me
Starting point is 00:03:54 He's on the pod. Yes, yes, I'm back. So tell the people who you are. I don't think we've ever given you like an official title. Brandon produces this segment for this. Yeah, so I produced this segment. I worked with Lauren on the Breakfast Club. I hope with the latest.
Starting point is 00:04:06 And yeah, so we decided to do this segment. And we said we're going to do what, like once or twice a month? Yes, yes, we are. He was like, you know what? We need to get the people more engaged. It's like five to eight million people on the audio side, you know, just a little flex before we get into the new year. So we decided, you know, we wanted to.
Starting point is 00:04:24 to do more to be able to get y'all involved and kind of just engage a bit and coming from radio now i can say that i see how important it is for your listeners that feel like they're a part of the show so here we are so we will actually be posting uh the number via like on all my socials i'm la rosa everywhere but i also say it pretty often um on the podcast as well here too so you guys will know the number it'll be an easy call in we'll have it established uh eventually in later episodes so you'll have that but getting to the question how soon is too soon to buy holiday gifts with someone that you are newly dating okay so I feel like there's a lot of unwritten rules to this so if y'all are not together and it's like real new maybe y'all talking for a few weeks I don't
Starting point is 00:05:12 think they necessarily get into the gift like real new like a week like weeks I don't care if you've been talking to me for a week if the holiday like just like just started dating like maybe one or two dates you're getting that Christmas gift? It don't got to be like you got to buy me a new house but like something that's just like oh I you know what I'm enjoying conversation with you here's like a nice perfume
Starting point is 00:05:33 or a book perfume or like I think the the I do think the bigger the gift can I wouldn't be mad if it depends on the amount of time that you've spent with me because I can understand you not want to to throw a lot of money into someone you barely even know but I think it's a nice gesture.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Yeah. I don't know. And then I feel like if you like... So what's the time period? Like at what point in a new relationship do you buy a gift? Like what's the mark? I believe maybe like over like two months. Like two months, then we can get a gift or if y'all are official and it's new, you can get a gift.
Starting point is 00:06:15 And even like if y'all are not official, I feel like that even depends on what the gift is. It's like a grandiose gift without a commitment is a little odd. What? Why? All right, all right, explain. Maybe I'm tripping. Explain your point. I just, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:32 I mean, again, it does have to be like a brand new car or house unless that's how you come in. I'm not mad at it. Just make sure you know everything is in my name and fully paid for. Don't give me nothing that I got to figure out. But I don't think that there's anything wrong with the gesture of. hey, it's Christmas, I'm enjoying your company, I'm enjoying your voice, I'm enjoying your conversation, here's something. So, like, maybe in those two weeks of conversation, I mentioned to you,
Starting point is 00:07:00 I like to get my nails done at a certain place, or, you know, I like to eat at a certain place, or I'm headed on a trip for New Year's Eve. I mean, no, that's cool, but I do feel like the price point matters. Okay, and I'm not mad at that. Yeah. I mean, I'm not mad at that whatsoever. I don't think that it's required, but I think it would be nice. Like, dang.
Starting point is 00:07:19 that's like i also you know for this conversation i always think too about like valentine's day and when you're newly dealing with somebody it's like when do you guys officially celebrate valentine's day to a point i feel like that makes more sense than christmas i don't know what it is but i feel like valentine's day even like no matter how sure of the time it is i think you should do something like some type of gesture dinner gift i think valentine's day but christmas i feel like It's more of like a family thing. I think maybe that's what I'm thinking of. It's more like, you know, it's more familiar.
Starting point is 00:07:55 I can understand that. I definitely can understand. I also feel like, too, there's such a family sentimental value, like what you're saying. You know what I mean? That comes with Christmas. I know I was reading this People magazine article, not in the physical magazine, but I was on people.com, and they begin to rank celebrities and, like, the best Christmas tree decorations and it made me think about just how family oriented Christmas is as a holiday and
Starting point is 00:08:23 like when you are newly dating someone or having a conversation with them I think that there is like a there should be at our big age anyway there is a pause or like a conversation about like when when is it too early to even introduce you to the people I love like the people that would be surrounded by my Christmas tree and be happy you know what I mean yeah um but But on the top of that list was Jada Pinkett, Smith, and the Smith in the wood. What? What? Keep his name out of your mouth.
Starting point is 00:08:55 True. True, true. But on the top of that list was her. They did a very artistic, like, a velvet top tree with, like, a huge star on the top. Number three was Our Roker and Deborah Roberts, his wife. Kevin Hart was number four with his tree. And all these trees are, like, old. over the top, right?
Starting point is 00:09:17 This is this year? Yeah, this is this year. But all these people, and just reading this article and thinking about when is it too soon to buy a gift? I'm like, dang. I don't know the last time I've even had to think about that because even in my new relationship, we are settled in. Like when we first started, you know, having conversations and like whatever it was
Starting point is 00:09:41 that was happening, we weren't even in the point. Like, it was just around this time. You know what I mean? Yeah, but you're like together though. Now, but I'm saying last year. And y'all was like, oh, let me not put your business out. Y'all are dealing with each other for. Not at Christmas time.
Starting point is 00:09:56 No. Like, we, Oh, since last year? We knew each other around that time, but we got through Christmas. But Valentine's Day was a thing. So what did you get for Christmas last year? That has nothing to do with that because that's not where I'm at this year. Wait, but what did you get?
Starting point is 00:10:10 I got things. And y'all just started. You're not, listen. How long were y'all dating? by last Christmas. The person that I'm talking about it was a few months. Yeah, that's a few months.
Starting point is 00:10:22 It was still very new and he was still very much a lot here and didn't have nothing going on. I got something. You can't say. It's just irrelevant to where I am now because what I got had nothing to do with where I ended up
Starting point is 00:10:34 because it was just that was a completely different person. And it was also all very material. Like in that situation, I knew I was going to be receiving things because a lot of the basis of our relationship was very material. In this situation I'm in now, I would much rather, like, how things are right now with us, I mean, babe, you know, I want my gifts.
Starting point is 00:10:55 But I value just being able to, like, be with him on the holiday and be with his family and get to meet who's important for him. Because that's another thing, too, when it's a new relationship. You're meeting new people and you're meeting, you know, you're getting into, like, what are their holiday traditions? Is decorating a tree a big thing? Do y'all get together to do that? So, like, I am excited about experiencing that stuff more than I am. about my gifts, but I know my man, so I know he got me.
Starting point is 00:11:19 You know what I can say that confidently. That business idea you've been sitting on this new year. Stop waiting for the perfect time. GoDaddy Arrow uses AI to build your website, logo, and marketing in minutes, not months,

Dad had the strong belief that the devil was attacking us. Two brothers, one devout household, two radically different paths. Gabe Ortiz became one of the highest-ranking law enforcement officers in Texas.
Starting point is 00:12:31 32 years, total law enforcement experience. But his brother Larry, he stayed behind and built an entirely different legacy. He was the head of this gang, and nobody was going to tell him what to do. You're going to push that line for the cause. He took us under his wing. and showed us the game, as they call it. When Larry is murdered, Gabe is forced to confront the past he tried to leave behind
Starting point is 00:12:52 and uncover secrets he never saw coming. My dad had a whole other life that we never knew about. Like, my mom started screaming my dad's name, and I just heard one gunshot. The Brothers Ortiz is a gripping true story about faith, family, and how two lives can drift so far apart and collide in the most devastating way. Listen to the Brothers Ortiz on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Who would you call if the unthinkable happened? I just fell and started screaming. If you lost someone you loved in the most horrific way. I said through your two times. The police, right? But what if the person you're supposed to go to for help is the one you're the most afraid of? This dude is the devil. He's a snake. He'll hurt you. I got you. I got you. I got you.
Starting point is 00:13:48 I'm Nikki Richardson, and this is The Girlfriends, Untouchable. Detective Roger Golubski spent decades intimidating and sexually abusing black women across Kansas City, using his police badge to scare them into silence. This is the story of a detective who seemed above the law until we came together to take him down. I told Roger Galoopsky, I said you're going to see my face till the day that you die. Listen to the girlfriends, Untouchable, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, everyone. It's me, Katie Couric. Did you know that I recently joined Substack? It's where I'll be sharing my unfiltered conversations with the people everyone's talking about. Journalists breaking news, politicians making it, actors we can't stop watching, experts, and a few unexpected voices who just might change the way you see the world.
Starting point is 00:14:50 I'll also share what I'm reading, what I'm watching, what's making me roll my eyes, and what's giving me hope. It's a little news, a little opinion, and yes, the occasional curse word, because let's face it, have you seen the headlines lately? So if you like smart takes, deep dives, and are also thinking, WTF is happening, search Katie Kurek on Substack and hit subscribe. All of my interviews and articles are free to help everyone stay informed. But if you want to join the group chat and hear my hottest takes, well, that's for premium users only. It's going to be so much fun. I can't wait to see you there.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Again, search Katie Kurek on Substack and hit subscribe. But we do have a caller on the line because, again, we wanted to hear what the people had to say about these things. So our caller, who is anonymous, I want to know how soon is too soon to begin Gifting Bay for Christmas. If it's a new relationship. Hi, how are you? I'm good. I'm good. Well, first of all, I want to know, you know, are you in a relationship? I am.
Starting point is 00:15:59 How new is this relationship? it's pretty new but we were dating for a while okay all right so he's not a new person but the exclusivity and the intensity of like we're together is new yes okay so did you guys spend christmas together yes and it was your first christmas together yes and you guys exchanged gifts yes we did so are you guys under the six month mark we are okay all right so at what point were you like like for you is there a time limit on no we're not getting we're not doing the gifts thing like if you guys had not been a hundred percent together right like y'all are still just dating it's still very intentional but there's
Starting point is 00:16:51 no word you're my boyfriend i'm your girlfriend would you have exchanged gifts this christmas i would have because i feel like it depends on the rate at which you speak to the person, because we speak every day. So even if you didn't get something grand, it could have been something personal, but like low pressure for something that you mentioned all the time. It could be something small, like a candle, your favorite snack. Like, it doesn't have to be a grand gift, but I feel like it depends. I agree.
Starting point is 00:17:27 I think as women, though, for us, it's the thoughtfulness. correct? Is that what you're looking for at that point? Yeah, and I think that we are just naturally more thoughtful. I agree. Consideration is, baby, get me that for Christmas every year. Yeah, I think we'll think of, like, the little things that they may not think of. So, were you happy with your Christmas gifts? I was. And moving forward, right?
Starting point is 00:18:00 Because, all right, you got Christmas, you got the Christmas tradition and all the things. But, God forbid, this word not to work, would you do Christmas differently with a new bay? Because it seems like y'all are pretty early in this situation. Would you do Christmas differently with a new bay based on, if this doesn't work, just trying things new? Do you feel like no gifts at Christmas is okay for new relationships? You know, I think just being the person that I am, I would just get a gift for God. regardless, because I don't think I'm going to change the type of person I am, even if situations didn't work out.
Starting point is 00:18:40 How much money they got to spend in this new relationship, though? So we three months in, six months in, how much money? Like, what's the average? Good price point. I don't think there's a, I don't think there's a price limit or like an amount. Oh, you're a good one. I don't expect something huge until, like, we're in a committed relationship. And maybe, like, after the six months mark, if that holiday comes afterwards,
Starting point is 00:19:14 then I'm like, okay, I would need you to use your brain and think a little bit. But prior to that? Would you have ended your relationship if your person came to you and said, you know what, you're pretty new, we haven't even been in a relationship a year yet? I don't think exchanging Christmas gifts make sense. Would I end it? No, I'll probably argue a little bit, though. Oh, girl, you are a rider, okay?
Starting point is 00:19:42 Because I would need to hear your reason. I would need to hear, like, because if you know me, you know that it doesn't have to be something grand, so for you to still not go ahead and get something, it's kind of crazy to me. Well, there we have it. Thank you for coming on the line with us. Happy holidays.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Thank you. You too. That business idea you've been sitting on this new year. Stop waiting for the perfect time. GoDaddy Arrow uses AI to build your website, logo, and marketing in minutes, not months. No tech skills. No excuses. Just your idea made real.

Again, search Katie Couric on Substack
Starting point is 00:24:12 and hit subscribe. Well, I like, I like, I like, I like that color. She said exactly what I said. I think it's more important to be thoughtful. Yes, but thought begins the day you, breathe at me they just said it better they just said it better thought begins the day you breathe at me the moral of the story is if you breathe in my way especially if you what thought because when you breathe that that's crazy I mean it's not crazy you know everybody's in time of it but if I have to listen
Starting point is 00:24:47 if I've ever heard you breathe or saw you blink your eye on face time that is when thought begins and it's nothing wrong with even if it's just like a cute little Christmas card and some candies. I'm all about thoughtfulness though. That's, that's where I'm like, I'm good at thoughtful. That's what men be saying. That's what men always be saying. And then, look, the thoughtfulness kick in and then they take the gift back as soon as the thought. Oh, I don't do that. That's crazy to be taking a gift back. No gives you back. You can't say the other words because it's not, you can't. What's the other words? It starts with the I and the second one. Oh, yeah, be not going to get canceled here. You can't say that. Got you. You know what? You saw Drake was on
Starting point is 00:25:29 streamed with Benedon and was talking about the car that Cuevo got for Sweetie that he then said he took back and he said that he bought it back as a gift like he bought it for Cuevo as a gift and Cuevo didn't really understand let's take a listen to that
Starting point is 00:25:44 okay all right I'm gonna tell you remember you remember when when a sweetie Benley was going viral remember there was an ice blue Bentley uh huh it was Sweetie's car Yeah, man. They said that Quayboy got it for it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:01 And I was like, oh, like, I saw it for sale somewhere. And this is like when we were first on stake and I was just, paper was just running. So I was, or maybe it was before that. It was before that? No, it was around that time. And so I was like, man, just, I was like, I saw it for sale. I'm like, yo, I'm going to buy that back from my dog. So then I'm like, I kind of tried to do the same thing where I was like, I invited him over.
Starting point is 00:26:25 And I'm like, yo, like, come over to this party. I parked the whip right in the front. but you did buy it I bought it for him yeah and I was like he pulled up like he's like he thought I he thought she was there but he's like what do you say what do you say it's not about what he's there
Starting point is 00:26:42 but he really didn't understand Speaking of giving things back First of all I think it was I really think it was cornea drink to share this story Yeah wait so he bought it from sweetie and gave it back to Cuevo No no no no no that's why I said When that caller was talking to us
Starting point is 00:26:57 remember I said make sure everything is all the notes and all that is right and I actually own it it was it couldn't have ever been fully like oh that's a little like disrespectful though right that's a little like shady than to do that right like I can actually buy it yes okay don't get me nothing that you can give back like what and it was like I remember when
Starting point is 00:27:20 this went down so it was it was ice blue Bentley he got it he got this gift for sweetie and Christmas Christmas of December December Christmas of 2020 And it had like it was customized She had like the icy snowflakes And border on it like the headsets
Starting point is 00:27:37 And it was really cute for them It was a fine moment She bought Because people were always trying to make it seem like Soidi was getting more out of relationship than he was But I remember she returned a gift later on And like brought him some cards as well too Like he was I guess really into old schools
Starting point is 00:27:51 And stuff like that But I think number one It was Courtney for Drake to tell us that he did that I also think that taking a gift back, like, a car that you buy, yeah, I think it's very, like, corny. I also think it's just a controlling. It's like something that you can, you know what I'm saying? But I've never been in that situation that allegedly Quable was in, where, like, she cheated on you with somebody you may know. And it's like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:28:17 I've never been hurt to that extent. So I don't know what I would do in that situation. I mean, yeah, but. I would hope I wouldn't. I'm pretty sure that no relationship is perfect. So, you know what I mean? Like, I don't, we don't know everything that went down. There have been allegations of, like, you know,
Starting point is 00:28:33 sweetie doing certain things and offset or whatever. And I know things have been, you know, offset is spoke out and tried to clear it up or whatever. But I think you don't know all of the details into a relationship ever. But I just feel like if you're going to buy me something, especially something as big as a car is different if it's like a little necklace or whatever. But as big as a car, like if you stand on that, stand on it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Let me go up by my business in my car. Yeah. No, I would, yeah. That's the very matured thing I do. You gave somebody a gift and. You don't really feel that way. No, me and feels that way. No, I do, but I just, I just know, like, that's the, that sounds good in theory.
Starting point is 00:29:11 But if somebody really hurts you in a real way, like, you would want to not hurt them back, but like, you wouldn't want them to enjoy something like that that you gave them. Like, just riding around, this wildhood, nothing to do it in the passenger seat. Like, I don't know. know i don't know or let another do borrow the car and i feel like that would add insult to injury but the mature thing to do is definitely just leave the gift and let them have it yeah well listen there was speculation back then that the car was repossessed drake basically just confirmed that the car was taken back you know all the things have happened i just we could do without this news heading into our new year is all i'm saying yeah you know but the news is there and we will
Starting point is 00:29:52 talk about it and we will report it of course so thank you drake and thank you stake for that stream. This has been another episode of the latest with Lauren LaRosa.
