Starting point is 00:02:37 Real people, real celebrities, real talk. Join the Breakfast Club. Weekday mornings, 6 to 10. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are the Breakfast Club. Weekday mornings, 6 to 10. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. We got two special guests from the movie Chocolate City. What up, what up?
Starting point is 00:02:52 Robin Richard and Darren Henson. Yo, what up? What up, New York? Breakfast Club, glad to have us, yo. Now, dispel some rumors. Chocolate City's not a porno. Hell no, ain't no porno. Come on.
Starting point is 00:03:02 That's what we thought it was, a porno. No, yo, yo yo chaka city yo okay you got this character michael right who's like just like everybody hustling hustling for their mom whatever is that my character nah that's my character my character right so he's like this i'm taking a bartending job the bartending job tend to be like a strip club job so you know that's how it happens and you know when you have the right physique for something and but in the movie right he's the main character his brother is d D-Ray Davis, and Vivica A. Fox plays his mom. D-Ray.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Yeah, shout out to D-Ray. Yeah, what up, D-Ray? Yeah, D-Ray is definitely very funny in this movie. So, you know, he needs to make some money. You know how it happens. He's going to get some extra money. Because we hear this story all the time about the women. Yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:03:38 Usually it's the women that stop it. But it really is a large subculture of exotic dancers, male dancers. We always hear about the women, but it really is a huge subculture for male dances as well. So it's like the Black Magic Mike kind of. It is kind of the Black Magic Mike. They actually referenced that in the movie. But more like Magic Mountain, though. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:03:54 Like a thrill ride. Yeah, but it's like trying to compare Chocolate City and Magic Mike. It's like trying to compare Stomp the Yard to Bring It On. It's really two different movies. But when you think of male strippers, don't you usually think of big girls? Like, that's what I usually think of. Like they could pick up big girls and do a big girl. No, no, no. Mostly fat girls, higher
Starting point is 00:04:11 than the male exotic dancers. I tell you what it is. It's actually women about to get married. Right? If you go to Chippendale, I went to Vegas and saw Tyson strip and he's like, yo, come up on stage. We're pulling girls out of the audience. It's all girls and tiaras. Say that was for research. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:04:26 There you go. You just didn't know what it was. But not everybody's up in the spot man like when we were doing the movie we went and went to the club and really was for research but you have everybody and the interesting part is when you're in there the women
Starting point is 00:04:42 really control the space right but they go they have fun and they go home they're not trying there to pull women you know like how guys try to pull like why are you working in here mama take care of you kind of thing hey but why are you working here you ain't got to do this they had to have fun nah he's advertising now let me tell you about my first time going to a male review show right I was with a bunch of my girls I was hosting See what they say, male review They make it sound nice
Starting point is 00:05:08 But I'm going to tell you Our girl Melissa Ford was with me And she'll talk about this No, because the men were stripping doofus They put her on the couch? They actually did put her on a chair in the middle of the stage I have pictures, I'm going to dig those pictures up And at first when my friends came,
Starting point is 00:05:25 they said, listen, I don't want nobody touching me. You know, they were like, it was all of our first time going. Right, right. They were like, I don't want nobody touching me. Tell them, don't do this, don't do that. But that's not how it is at a normal nightclub. But I'm going to tell you what ended up happening.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Right. Okay. One of my friends, it was a whole bunch of us. So we're on stage on the side of the stage because I'm hosting. And everybody's at a table. They're drinking champagne. Next thing you know, my friends get drunk. Two of them go in the middle of the stage. They're stage on the side of the stage because I'm hosting and everybody's at a table to drink a champagne Next thing you know my friends get drunk two of them go in the middle of the stage. They lay on the floor
Starting point is 00:05:50 remix night Dick on my friends forehead Like the back of heads being grabbed and introduced to crotches. Y'all like that. Right. Because it's more fantasy for women, right? They like beds and couches, right? They got props and stuff in most male strip clubs or whatever.
Starting point is 00:06:13 They go nuts, man. And it was interesting because in the movie, you guys say we're selling a fantasy. This is all the things that your man can't do at home. That's what it's supposed to be. Like, when you see these male strippers. And so, for guys, it doesn't hurt for you to watch something like this because you can learn a lot because they do all kinds of stuff. I have time to put my penis on a woman's forehead.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Many times. No, but listen, the way these guys are, the way they lift these women up and flip them in the air and turn them around and flip them and do all kinds of tricks. Let me ask you guys a question. In the strip club, there's females in the strip club. Now, what do you do when there's males in the strip club and you got to slap a male with your hands?
Starting point is 00:06:48 Yeah, no. That's a different kind of crap. Yeah, no. Yeah, no. Nah, nah. Why is your mind even on that? I mean, how do you go there? I go to the strip club and I'm DJing.
Starting point is 00:06:58 I see girls in the strip club smacking ass. But what happens if a guy goes to one of their reviews and wants to smack an ass? Well, that's a different night. I don't know, man. That's a different night. That's a different night. That's a different night. Security!
Starting point is 00:07:08 Get this girl out of here. They're not allowed in the club on ladies' night. Yeah, they would have a night. You're right. They're not allowed in the club. And I wouldn't, like, if I was, you know, I just wouldn't be working that night. You know what I'm saying? That would be a night off.
Starting point is 00:07:21 But it's deeper than just, you know, seeing men. Because, obviously, physically, like physically we're in the movie. There's a lot of women that came to see this movie. It was a mostly female audience so it was fun for us to watch because it is like a lot of people have this stigma about going to male review shows and what are these guys like? But it actually is really fun
Starting point is 00:07:38 entertaining but it gives you more of a behind the scenes. Kind of like Players Ball was. Was it Players? Players Club. But you know what's interesting is it's not always peaches and cream. Like, you know, brothers get it in there. Like, if you got a cat, like in the movie where his character comes in on amateur night and kind of wins the crowd, there's a problem with that. Because if I go after him, there's less money now. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Yeah, man. It's competitive. Yeah, there's less money now. Right. Oh, yeah. 100%. It's competitive. There's less money now. Yeah. You know, they get it in. If somebody is, if his cat, like we got a cat in the movie named Jamaica, he has some problems.
Starting point is 00:08:16 He's been shot up. Tyson. Yeah. No, no, no. Oh. No. Jamaica was one of the other dancers in there. Oh, right, right.
Starting point is 00:08:22 But Tyson's character actually kind of plays his character. Jamaica was shot ten times. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Because another cat was jealous he was making that much money. So sometimes it can be problems in the club. Okay, so a pun here in that. If a guy has a bigger penis than yours, right,
Starting point is 00:08:37 girls are going to naturally want to go to him. You can't see somebody's penis in that full frontal nude. Okay, so you put a sock down there to give the illusion that yours is just as big? Well, sometimes, I mean, from what we hear, they have, like, fantasy enhancements. They do that. The women like that. I mean, you know, I can't speak for everybody, but, yes, it's said to be done. It's a fantasy enhancement.
Starting point is 00:08:59 Now, a mill stripper once told me that what they do is they put the sock on and then they tie it really tight. They tie the sock, they tie the string around it really tight to cut off the flow of blood. So that makes it enlarged. And that's how you stay hard. That's actually only in the Magic Mike movie. We don't have to do that. I know a male stripper whose penis fell off because of that. Because he was doing that.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Yeah, you cut the blood. You cut the circulation off. I mean, anything you cut circulation off, you know, you might render yourself penisless. Penisless. No, you can. I mean, if you cut your circulation off, you're cutting your circulation off. That's how they stay hard the whole time
Starting point is 00:09:35 because it's like the blood stays there. That happened to me during the film. That happened to me. You had to cut your penis off? No, no, no, no. I didn't really know. It's called being tied off. Where was the medic? I mean know it's called being tied off I didn't really know anything so they told me this is what you do cuz you know it was my first time doing something like that and it can enlarge it in a certain way but it's it's it's not fun it's not comfortable right and that's what happened to me
Starting point is 00:10:02 during the film yeah exactly but a real one like there's a scene in the film where it happens there's one like maybe three second shot where you see it in the film hey plant friday you know there you go come and check it out friday now how um how did y'all how did y'all get out of character oh y'all still dancing he got his shirt over there, man. He's about to just go get breakdanced, right? Well, the thing about it
Starting point is 00:10:28 is in all my characters across my whole career, I usually have my shirt off in some scene, right? I play mostly athletes, so a lot of my stuff is like locker room scenes or in my bedroom
Starting point is 00:10:36 thinking about stuff. So I think it's still like, for me, it's still in the lane of all my acting stuff. It's not out of character for me. It's just another sport.
Starting point is 00:10:43 You know what would be out of character for you? To play somebody calm. Jeez. No, we in New York City. There's a lot of energy in here. You know what I'm saying? I'm from L.A.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Shout out to L.A. Los Angeles. What up? And for me, I grew out my hair, twisted it up, I locked it up, grew a big, thick beard
Starting point is 00:10:58 because my character's name is Magnus. And when I spoke with the director, I told him, I said, I want to create a character for this. So my character was kind of earthy, Afrocentric, walked with a, you know, an Egyptian cane, had, you know, elekis on.
Starting point is 00:11:11 So it was it was different for me. Now, what do you do? What's your regimen, man? You drink a lot of water. You go see a dermatologist. Definitely. Yeah. Most of the time. But but I also binge at night. Like if you go on my freezer, it's I think I work out so I can eat what I want. But I mean, you got you over 40, right? Yes. You don't look it. That's what I'm saying at night. Like, if you go in my freezer, I think I work out so I can eat what I want. I mean, you're over 40, right? Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:28 You don't look it. That's what I'm saying. Yes, yes, yes. I mean, I work out. I take care of myself. I drink a lot of water. The secret for me, and I tell everybody this all the time, black seed oil. Black seed oil.
Starting point is 00:11:44 It cleanses the blood, cleanses the skin, heals the properties of the skin from the cellular level. Black seed oil. You put that in your food? I take it orally, right? I drink it and I put it on my skin. I heard of flaxseed. I never heard of flaxseed. It's a secret.
Starting point is 00:11:54 Black seed oil. Egyptian black seed oil. Where do you get that from? You got to go to Harlem or health food stores. D Herbs has it. But really, black seed oil is magical. They say that black seed oil cures everything except death, and it really does.
Starting point is 00:12:13 See, we got an actor and a pharmacist right here. I want to give some history on Darren, though, for some kids that may not know. Darren made a lot of money in the early 2000s. He was a choreographer for Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and Sank 98 Degrees. Every white poppy boy band artist you used to help dance. Yeah, I created the dance steps for NSYNC's Bye Bye Bye. That's what I won the MTV Music Award.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez. Worked with Michael Jackson, Prince. I'm blessed. You know, I was a young guy from the Bronx who just had big dreams, man. I had the DVD, Darren's Dance Boots. You know what I mean? Yeah, Darren's Dance Boots.
Starting point is 00:12:44 Mr. I'm Not That Innocent. You made a lot of money off them dance moves. dreams man and i had the dvd back in the days you know what i mean yeah darren's dance i'm not that innocent you know you made a lot of money we sold yeah man i'm yeah that was like p90x in like the 2000s right it was pre that and it was like i was up when i got soul food i thought man i spent so many years as a choreographer and i had such a huge audience i said i can't leave all this money on the table and i was sitting down one day watching Billy Blanks and I just thought, nobody's ever done this with dance. And I started writing the treatment. It took me about a year to put it together and kind of shop it and then I did a deal.
Starting point is 00:13:12 And after that, man, you know, life changed. Wonder bread. Why hasn't it transcended into this era though? Because like I see Laurieann Gibson, she's still choreographer, I don't even know what the- Choreographer. Choreographer, choreographer, yeah. Well, for me, she's still choreographer. I don't even know what the word is. Yeah, choreographer. Well, for me, it was about a transition.
Starting point is 00:13:29 It was about becoming an entrepreneur businessman. You know, I own quite a few businesses now, and it was just about utilizing the money that I had made to work for me in other places. You know, don't work hard, work smart, kind of. So the other builders, the other businesses I have now are kind of like an infrastructure, not only for myself, but for my kids going on.
Starting point is 00:13:46 How does a young black kid from the Bronx, right? Yes. Get into that field. It's just it's about dreaming, man. It's about utilizing, you know, Scripture says have faith without works is dead. And I believe that you have to be creatively dreaming and then put action behind it and allow yourself to gain access to a mentor, right? Get a mentor, somebody who already has what you want so you can have a viewpoint and a perspective of where you want to go. And that's what we talk about like during Chocolate City. So that same process is,
Starting point is 00:14:15 you know, somebody said, well, that was easy for you to do the movie because you're a dancer. No, that was a character I played. It was a new script. It was a new character. It's a new nuance. Nothing is easy, you know? It's application and it's creative thought and action followed behind it and belief system in myself. Will you guys, May 22nd.
Starting point is 00:14:35 May 22nd, go check the movie. Can fellas go see this movie? Yeah. It's still a movie, though. I mean, it's still a movie. You take your girl. Let her get on with it. It's very,
Starting point is 00:14:43 I'm going to tell you this, you will definitely laugh if you go see it. It's really a funny movie. You and me will. Let her get on with it. It's very, I'm going to tell you this, you will definitely laugh if you go see it. It's really a funny movie. You, Envy, will learn a lot. There was a lot of men in the building yesterday. Were they not? Yeah, there were some guys there.
Starting point is 00:14:51 And Genuine is actually in the movie as well. Why are you pointing at me? Why? Because he's light-skinned? Genuine looks pretty good, too. The movie comes out May 22nd, AMC Theaters and On Demand. So if you don't feel like getting off your couch, you can watch it on demand the same day. Yeah, Envy, maybe you don't want everybody to see you in the theater.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Maybe you want to get it on demand at home. If I got no problem, ain't no shame. You guys can watch it at home, though. See? Take that back home, right? I'm telling you, if you do a couple of moves that we did in the movie, you might have to get ready for a baby or something like that. I got fun. Yeah, yeah, it's enough.
Starting point is 00:15:24 All right, it's the Breakfast Club. We got the cast of Chocolate City. Yeah. Had enough of this country? Ever dreamt about starting your own? I planted the flag. This is mine. I own this.
