Had enough of this country?
Ever dreamt about starting your own?
I planted the flag. This is mine. I own this.
It's surprisingly easy.
55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete.
Or maybe not.
No country willingly gives up their territory.
Oh my God.
What is that?
Bullets.
Listen to Escape from Zakistan.
We need help!
That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you
get your podcasts. Hey guys, I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series,
The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more.
After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast
Post Run High is all about. It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into
their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together.
Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions,
but you just don't know what is going to come for you.
Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love.
I forgive myself.
It's okay.
Have grace with yourself.
You're trying your best.
And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing.
Alicia Keys, like you've never
heard her before. Listen to
On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the
iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
And Charlamagne Tha God.
The Breakfast Club, bitches.
The voice of the culture.
People watch The Breakfast Club for light news and really be tuned in.
It's one of my favorite shows to do.
Just because y'all always keep it 100, y'all keep it real.
They might not watch the news, but they're on Twitter.
They're on Facebook.
They're, you know, they're listening to The Breakfast Club.
Get your ass up. Good morning, Angela Yee. Good morning, TJ Envy.
Charlamagne Tha God.
Peace to the planet.
It's Thursday.
Yes, it's Thursday.
Not just a regular Thursday either, God damn it.
That's right.
Because we do this thing every year.
Change for change.
Yes, sir.
That's right.
When we raise money for a good cause,
and this year's cause is the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
Well, let's talk about the history of it, first of all.
We started it a couple years ago.
First year, we raised money for the Gathering for Justice movement.
Correct.
You know what I mean?
I think that was, that's Harry Belafonte's organization.
We ran up like, I don't know, 700-something thousand, I think it was?
Seven, yeah, 700, yeah, close to 800,000.
Yeah, and then the next year, we did Brandon Marshall's Project 375.
Right.
And that is an organization that helps to eradicate the stigma around mental health.
Yep, we raise about a quarter million.
Something like that.
Quarter million dollars.
Yep, yep.
And in this year, we're doing, like I said, the Thorogood Marshall College Fund, which
helps students get to an HBCU.
We help them with a scholarship, whether it's for books, whether it's for lodging, food,
or tuition.
We're trying to help kids that need it to go to college.
Each recipient gets a $5,000 scholarship.
So there's multiple recipients
and it's the nation's largest organization
that exclusively represents the
black college community. Correct.
And we would never ask y'all to do something we haven't done
ourselves. We've all made, you know,
healthy donations to HBCUs, right?
Yep. You know, last month I gave a quarter
million dollars to South Carolina State University.
You know what I mean? So I'm just out here sowing my
seeds. But my mother, that's my mother's alma mater.
Right. So everybody has some type of connection to
HBCU in some way, shape, or form.
Absolutely. You know? Absolutely.
Of course, I went to Hampton University.
I was there five years, actually. I was supposed to be there
four years. But I did an extra year. I loved it so much.
That's about right. You surprised you didn't do seven.
I would have. You did an extra year.
I definitely would have. You loved it so much. Yeah, I loved it so much I did an extra year.
Like a lot of people do.
Okay.
There's a lot of people out there that went to four and a half or five years.
Yeah, no doubt.
A lot of people, listen, a lot of people got relatives that went to HBCUs.
They went to HBCUs themselves.
Yes.
You've slept with a guy or girl on a HBCU campus.
You have a connection to a HBCU in some way, shape, or form.
I'm a big proponent of higher education also,
so I just want to make sure that people who
want to go to college have the
opportunity to do so and have the finances
and whatever support they need to make that
happen. I agree, because I didn't go to college.
You know what I mean? But, you know, a lot of y'all
are not as special and as blessed as me.
So while you're trying to figure it out in life,
you should go to school. Absolutely.
So we're asking to help out.
We're going to try to get people all day long to donate.
Because we're here until midnight, goddammit.
That's right.
And you can text CHANGE.
Text CHANGE to 52182.
And you can donate whatever you want.
$5, $10, $17, $20, $30, $40, $50, whatever you have.
$200,000.
Yes, whatever it is.
Text CHANGE to 52182. $30, $40, $50, whatever you have. $200,000. Yes, whatever it is.
Change to 52182, or you can hit up the website bcchangeforchange.com.
That's the number four, bcchangeforchange.com.
The number four, change.com. And we got a lot of people stopping by, right, all day long,
because we're here from 6 a.m. to midnight.
So you can listen to us on the iHeartRadio app even when we sign off in your area.
That's right.
With the Breakfast Club. Well, who we got coming in this morning? Chadwick Boseman will sign off in your area. That's right. With the Breakfast Club.
Who we got coming in this morning?
Chadwick Boseman.
Now let me tell you why
that's beautiful.
Why?
Chadwick Boseman is from
Anderson, South Carolina.
He's a South Carolina brethren.
But he also played
Thurgood Marshall.
Yes, he did.
In the movie.
And today we're doing
the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
And not only that,
he went to Howard University.
Oh, man.
And I see he has a new movie
coming out also.
21 Bridges.
Yes, and he's actually doing a screening at Howard University for it. Yes. And I see he has a new movie coming out also. Called 21 Bridges. Yes, and he's actually
doing a screening
at Howard University for it.
Yes.
We definitely got to lean on him.
And he has a lot of bread.
I don't know how much bread
he got.
He got some back end
from Black Panther?
No, he didn't.
Marvin would not do that.
No, he didn't.
But Marvin didn't do that.
If he did, he'd be out of here.
He wouldn't be up here
this morning.
But I will say this.
We're going to lean on
my South Carolina bread.
Absolutely.
We have to.
Yeah. Okay. Alright, now you got front page news ready, E?
I guess so. I thought we were just doing change for
change stuff this morning, but the debates were on last
night. That's right. We got to talk about the debates. So we do have to
talk about that. Also, we are still looking
into this whole impeachment hearings that
are very public right now. So there's
a lot going on. So we'll make sure we keep you guys
updated as we continue with this Radiothon this morning.
We still got to do a show.
We can't be on the radio asking people for money.
Can't do that.
No.
But we would appreciate it.
And you can text right now.
We would appreciate it.
Change to 52182.
You know what I mean?
If you do want to.
All right.
Hit us up right now.
Front page is next.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Is your country falling apart?
Feeling tired?
Depressed?
A little bit revolutionary?
Consider this. Start your own country.
I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out
of like, this is mine. I own this.
It's surprisingly easy.
55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete.
Everybody's doing it.
I am King Ernest Emmanuel.
I am the Queen of Laudonia. I'm Jackson I.
King of Kaperburg. I am the Supreme Leader
of the Grand Republic of Mentonia.
Be part of a great colonial tradition.
Why can't I trade my own country?
My forefathers did that themselves.
What could go wrong?
No country willingly gives up their territory.
I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead.
Oh my God.
What is that?
Bullets.
Bullets.
We need help!
We need help!
We still have the off-road portion to go.
Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast.
That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHe I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast, Post Run High, is all about. It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories, their journeys, and the
thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together. You know that rush of endorphins you
feel after a great workout? Well, that's when the real magic happens. So if you love hearing real,
inspiring stories from the people you know, follow, and admire, join me every week for Post Run High.
It's where we take the conversation beyond the run and get into the heart of
it all. It's lighthearted, pretty crazy, and very fun.
Listen to post run high on the I heart radio app,
Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
As a kid,
I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you.
Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself and leaning into her dreams.
I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, it was
literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going.
This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude,
and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay.
Like, grace.
Have grace with yourself.
You're trying your best.
And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing.
Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before.
Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty
on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Good morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne
the guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Let's get in some
front page news.
Now, Philadelphia 76er
Ben Simmons officially
hit his first three of his
career. That is so crazy.
That is crazy. Now, he's a point guard, shooting guard.
Yeah, but it's wild that people talk about how
Ben Simmons can't shoot, but I didn't know
this was the first three-pointer of his career.
The first three-pointer of his career.
I saw people saying that last night.
I was like, nah, that must be some social media nonsense.
I thought so, too.
But no, this is his first three-pointer.
He's a guard.
He should be knocking them down.
Well, I guess not.
Can't shoot.
Yeah, can't shoot.
Well, they beat the Knicks last night.
Now, what else we talking about, Yeezy?
Well, let's talk about the impeachment hearings that were public yesterday.
Gordon Sondland, who was the most anticipated person,
that everybody was waiting to hear what he had to say, and he is the United States ambassador
to the European Union. He actually testified yesterday, and a lot of people are saying this
was a turning point in the House impeachment inquiry with stunning testimony. Now, here's
what he had to say as far as Donald Trump saying that he does not know him. President Trump was
asked about you, and he said, I don't know him well.
I have not spoken to him much.
This is not a man I know well.
Is that true?
It really depends on what you mean by know well.
We are not close friends.
No, we have a professional, cordial working relationship.
And in that working relationship, he knows who you are?
Yes.
And he has spoken to you often?
What's often?
Well, you said at least 20 times.
Okay, if that's often, then it's often.
I mean, yeah.
Yeah, that's often.
Now, if it's 20 times in 20 years, no.
If it's 20 times in the last three, yes.
That's kind of often, my G.
Now, people are saying this was the most important day of the House impeachment hearings.
And when he was asked straight up, was there a quid pro quo, Sondland did respond. The answer is yes. OK, he said that's the question. And that's a simple question. And
he said, I testified previously. The answer is yes. Here is Gordon Sondland on that Trump phone
call with Ukraine. I finally called the president. I believe it was on the 9th of September. I can't
find the records and they won't provide them to me.
But I believe I just asked him an open-ended question, Mr. Chairman.
What do you want from Ukraine?
I keep hearing all these different ideas and theories and this and that.
What do you want?
And it was a very short, abrupt conversation.
He was not in a good mood.
And he just said, I want nothing.
I want nothing. I want nothing. I want
no quid pro quo. Tell Zelensky to do the right thing. But that actually was in Donald Trump's
favor right there. That's the one thing that Donald Trump has been saying clears him and
exonerates him. But, you know, prior to that, he did say, as I testified previously, there was a
quid pro quo. But even though Donald Trump tried to say that afterward, everybody believes that there was.
All right.
Well, that is your front page news.
Now, when we come back, we get it off your chest.
800-585-1051.
This is what we need you to do.
We lean in on everybody who calls in to get it off your chest today.
You can't call in to get it off your chest for free this morning.
That's right.
You got to donate.
Text change to 52182. How can love to hear from you. How can we
confirm that they've donated as they call in?
We'll figure it out. We'll have our screeners do it.
Yeah, we got the tracker. Yeah, we got the tracker to see
if they really donated. We can see how much money going
in the pot real time. And by the way, none of the money
goes to iHeart or the Breakfast Club.
Nope. It goes straight to the Thurgood
Marshall College Fund. That's right.
800-585-1051. Get it off your chest.
We want you to call up right now
and text CHANGE to 52182.
Tell us why you're donating.
Tell us what HBCU has done for you
and your life and your feeling
if you went to one.
Tell us why you're mad at HBCU.
All that.
Yeah, absolutely.
Call us now.
It's The Breakfast Club.

Jason Yee on here. What's that about? Shout out to Jason Yee. He donated $100. Thank you so much. Ryan Ward, he donated $100 as well. There's a Jason Yee on here. What's that about?
Shout out to Jason Yee. He
donated $20 from Astoria
Queens, so shout out to him. And we're going to
be here for 18 hours, man. That's right. We're going to
be here until midnight raising money for the Thurgood Marshall
College Fund. None of the money goes to the Breakfast Club.
None of the money goes to iHeart. It goes straight
to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
That's right. And you can text CHANGE
to 52182
or bcchange4change.com.
That's bcchange4change.com.
And you can't lie to us because we can see it.
We can see everything.
Okay, we can see it in real time when you donate.
So don't be calling up here telling us you're making these big-ass donations.
We can look right at the number and see.
All right, well, let's get to the rumors.
Let's find out who just purchased a $25 million home.
This is the Rumor Report with Angela Yee.
Rumor has it.
On The Breakfast Club.
So listen up.
Okay.
Well, looks like The Weeknd might have some money to donate.
He just spent $25 million.
Where?
Yeah.
He said where?
In Beverly Hills.
Wow.
Lord have mercy.
Congratulations to him. Yes, he bought a penthouse bachelor pad. Wow. Lord have mercy. Congratulations to him.
Yes, he bought a penthouse bachelor pad.
They said he spent $25 million for it.
It's on the top floor.
It's not even a house.
It's a penthouse.
That's a waste of money.
It's four bedrooms.
It's 8,200 square feet.
That's big.
You know how many colleges you can build in South Africa with $25 million?
That is.
Well, maybe he'll want to donate this morning for Change for Change.
No, he won't.
I'm in everybody's pockets this morning.
That's the last person that you want to call.
He's going to call you and say,
you just reported I bought a house for $25 million.
I spent all my money,
and I got a furnace this year.
And Christmas around the corner.
Anybody got time for you?
I would call it Weekend for Change for Change.
Well, he's got four balconies,
and he's got huge glass windows,
great views of the city, the hills, the ocean.
I would think if I'm from Toronto
and I saw what Drake just built in Toronto,
that's what I would be building my crib at.
I'm just saying.
Maybe this is just one of his houses.
That's very true.
Yeah, it's just one house.
$25 million for a penthouse?
I want some grass for that much.
Word is bonked.
Give me a backyard.
All right, now another person, because I told you this morning,
we are in everybody's pockets.
Jamie Foxx.
He was at Brooklyn Chop House partying until 5 a.m., and they said he left a $2,000 tip on his food.
Hit Jamie up.
Yeah, hit Jamie up.
He got it.
Jamie got it.
Jamie can donate the change for change.
He got it.
Yeah, he definitely does.
So let's see if we can get him to call in this morning.
Also, Kanye West.
All right.
He's building an amphitheater on his ranch in Wyoming.
We told y'all he bought another ranch for 14 million dollars.
So he's been spending his money up.
But the only problem is the county is ordering Kanye to cease construction on his property because he didn't get a permit.
So you got to get a permit. But he does have a 70,000 square foot amphitheater that he's planning to build.
He submitted documents for that and there were construction crews and everything there.
So until they get that permit right, he's got to stop.
They're sticking him up. He's got to pay
for that permit, and that's the reason why they're
halting him. We're about to stick him up, too. Let's put some pressure
on Kanye West this morning. Let's hit up Boo.
Let's hit up Def Jam. Let's shake Kanye West down.
He ain't did nothing black since Jesus King came out,
except for Big Boy interview. He ain't did nothing black
since Jesus King came out. It just came out a week, two weeks
ago. Two weeks ago. That's plenty enough time to do
something black.
Other people's pockets. Blacks in the Jesus King came out. It just came out a week, two weeks ago. Two weeks ago. That's plenty enough time to do something black. All right.
Other people's pockets.
Whoa.
Drop on the clues box for him.
He's just showing his love and expressing his love for Kanye West this morning.
He said, what up, boo?
Wow.
He said he's gay.
So what?
So what?
Love it.
So what?
Do what you got to do to get the money out of him.
So what?
Right, dude.
All right.
I'll tell you who else's pockets we're in right now.
Damon Dash.
Now, originally, the story was he owed's pockets we're in right now. Damon Dash.
Now, originally the story was he owed $400,000 in child support.
Right.
And he hadn't paid up, and that money did apparently gain a lot of interest, and those debts have gotten a lot bigger.
But yesterday he actually went and took care of both warrants.
He went into a Manhattan courthouse.
He paid off about a million dollars to clear one warrant,
and then he tried to go to another courthouse to deal with the
other one. That's when he ended up
getting cuffed and processed because
the officers escorted him to the
Bronx to take care of the rest of his bill.
So all in all, he spent over a million
dollars to clear his name.
So the fact that he could just drop that money all in one
day like that means that he can definitely donate
to Change for Change. Drop on the clues box for Dame Dash.
First of all, why wasn't that the headline?
Why wasn't the headline
Dame Dash pays off child support
instead of Dame Dash arrested for
unpaid child support? That's what Dame said yesterday. Dame Dash
arrested over, I saw TMZ report
that page, things like Dame and Dash arrested over
for over $400,000 in unpaid child support.
I think probably at first it got
updated because people just saw him getting
arrested and didn't know.
But why would they arrest him if he's coming to pay?
Well, he went to one courthouse to pay one, and then he had to pay the other one.
So there were two of them.
Yeah, he had a warrant.
So after he paid the first one, they knew he was in court, clearly.
And then they went and cuffed him.
They said he paid like over a million dollars yesterday.
He should have sent his lawyer then.
I'd have sent my lawyer to pay the money if I knew y'all was going to arrest me.
You know what I'm saying?
Because it just looks bad.
It's a bad look.
You put the handcuffs on me, you walk me in front
of the media, but you know I'm actually paying my child support?
Like, that's whack. Like, why do that to him?
Well, Dame, if you're listening, we know you just paid that million
dollars. I know the network is
doing well right now. We need a little change,
Dame. Just a little bit. A little bit, Dame. The fact that you're walking around
with over a million dollars, okay?
Dame, I'm out there working. Y'all sleep.
Let's go. Alright, so you guys
can also donate as well.
Again, today is Change for Change.
All you have to do is text CHANGE to 52182,
or you can go to bcchange4change.com, bcchange4change.com.
All right.
Now, next hour, we have a couple people stopping through.
We have Michael Rubin, partner for the 76ers.
He's rich, rich.
He's rich, rich.
Are we going to try to stick him up?
Did the 76ers win last night?
Yeah, they beat the New York Knicks.
Ben Simmons hit his first three-pointer.
Yeah, Ben Simmons hit his first three.
And next hour, also, Chadwick Boseman will be joining us.
Oh, I'm leaning on him.
We got two people we're leaning on.
God damn it.
That's right.
We're going to try to get this win.
We're going to lean on Michael Rubin.
We're leaning on Chadwick Boseman, damn it.
God, you're right.
What's wrong with you, man?
What do you keep doing?
Because I got excited because you talk about Michael Rubin and Charles Bowman.
Michael Rubin, we can lean on him, okay?
He's a white ally.
You excited right now.
Put that white guilt on him, tell him it's for a black college.
Woo!
All right.
And then we got front page news.
Next, what are we talking about, Yee?
The debates were last night, so we got to discuss the Democratic debates.
We'll tell you who we thought came out pretty good, and we'll give you some highlights.
All right, we'll get into that next.
Keep it locked.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Change for change.
Good morning, everybody.
It's DJ, MV, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God.
We are The Breakfast Club.
Today's Change for Change.
We will be here until midnight.
We're raising money for the Thorogood Marshall College Fund, which helps African-American
students get to HBCU.
We help them with $5,000 scholarships.
That goes to lodging.
It goes to books.
It goes to education.
It goes to a bunch of things.
Y'all been to college before.
I haven't.
But it goes to whatever you would use it for in college.
Absolutely.
That's all.
Tuition.
It's cash for that ass.
Tuition.
A little bit of everything.
All right.
Well, let's get some front page news.
Where we starting, Ye?
Well, we are going to talk about these Democratic debates that happened last night.
It's the fifth Democratic debate of the 2020 presidential campaign.
And Cory Booker was coming at Joe Biden, and that was basically on his stance on legalizing marijuana.
Here's what he said.
This week, I hear him literally say that I don't think we should legalize marijuana.
I thought you might have been high when you said it.
And let me tell you, because marijuana, marijuana, marijuana in our country is already legal
for privileged people.
And it's one, the war on drugs has been a war on black and brown people.
Listen, that was a hard bar, dropping the clues bonds with Cory Booker.
And it's going to be very hard to vote for Joe Biden
if he becomes a Democratic nominee. Like,
my God, earlier this week you said you were
against the legalization of weed, but last night
in the debates in front of millions, you flipped on that.
Well, here's what Joe Biden had to say.
I think we should decriminalize marijuana,
period. And I think everyone,
anyone who has a record should be
let out of jail. Their record's expunged. It'd be completely zeroed out. But I think everyone, anyone who has a record should be let out of jail. Their records expunged and be completely zeroed out.
But I do think it makes sense based on data that we should study what the long term effects are for the use of marijuana.
That's all it is. Listen, man, he seems he seems like the early signs of dementia.
Like he said something earlier in the week and he's changing his mind.
That's what that seems. Then he goes on to talk about how much
support he gets from the black community.
I'm part of that Obama coalition.
I come out of the black community
in terms of my support. If you notice,
I have more people supporting me
in the black community that have announced for me
because they know me. They know who I am.
Three former chairs of the black
caucus. The only
African-American woman woman that ever been elected
to the united states senate a whole range of people my point is true
so my point is my point is one of the reasons i was picked to be vice president was because
of my relationship long-standing relationship with the black community.
All right, Kamala Harris is also on that stage,
and she was talking about...
Real quick, though, you can't say you were supportive
about the only African-American woman
that had ever been elected to the U.S. Senate,
and you're standing right by another one.
Right, everybody was like, huh?
Like, what? Come on, bro.
I'm telling you, he's...
All right, now, in addition to that,
since we're talking about Kamala Harris,
she had some things to say about Tulsi Gabbard.
Now, first, she was talking about Democrats taking the black vote for granted.
For too long, I think candidates have taken for granted constituencies that have been the backbone of the Democratic Party.
But, you know, at some point, folks get tired of just saying, oh, you know, thank me for showing up and say, well, show up for me.
Because when black women are three to four times more likely to die in connection with childbirth
in America, when the sons of black women will die because of gun violence more than any other
cause of death, the question has to be where you've been and what are you going to do?
That's right. That's a fact.
That's why black people should not be just giving up their vote to anyone who doesn't have a black agenda.
They always want black people to vote out of fear.
Stop all that. Vote for the person that's actually doing something.
Toasty Gabbard would agree with you.
Now, she had said our Democratic Party, unfortunately, is not the party that is of, by, and for the people.
And when Kamala Harris was asked to respond to those remarks, here's what she said.
It's unfortunate that we have someone on the stage who is attempting to be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States,
who during the Obama administration spent four years full time on Fox News criticizing President Obama.
When Donald Trump was elected, not even sworn in, buddied up to Steve Bannon to get a meeting with Donald Trump in the Trump Tower.
Listen, should we lean on Senator Harris' campaign this morning?
Yes, we should.
Senator Harris went to HBCU.
She went to Howard University.
She went to Howard.
Yes, we should.
Should I hit up Maya and Senator Harris and see what's happening in these streets?
Absolutely.
See what they got, a little change.
All right.
Well, that's front page news.
And shout out to my dad who's listening.
It actually is my cousin, Jason Yee, who donated.
So thank you to my cousin. He donated
$20. Shout out to Jason Yee. I know there's a lot of
Yees. I just realized that is my cousin.
I would hit up Joe Biden's campaign, but they'll probably
try to pay us in Harriet Tubman 20s.
Shut up. You know what I'm saying? Shut up.
All right. When we come back, Michael
Rubin will be joining us. We're about to lean on this
white man. Of course, he's the partner of the 76ers
and we're going to talk to him today.
Of course, it's Change for Change, and we need you to go in your pocket if you can.
Give what you can.
It doesn't matter if it's 5, 10, 15, 20, whatever it may be.
It could be a dollar, but please donate if you can.
Text CHANGE to 52182 or just hit up the website bcchange4change.com.
We'll be back with Michael Ruben.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club.
Now we got a special guest hanging out with us right now, Michael Rubin.
Now, Michael Rubin, today is something that we do.
It's called Change for Change, right?
We own this radio every morning from 6 a.m. to midnight,
and we do this every year.
The first year, we did it for what organization, Charlemagne?
We did it for the Gathering for Justice Movement,
which is Harry Belafonte's organization,
and we did it for Brandon Marshall's Project 357,
because they're helping to eradicate the stigma around mental health.
That's right.
So this year, we're doing it for the Thorogood Marshall College Fund,
which helps students trying to go to HBCUs.
We give them a scholarship to help with their books,
help with their living arrangements, and
all that stuff. And we know that you ride
black people, right? So not
to go in your pocket, but we know you got deep pockets.
So we're just asking for a little, you know,
donation or something, if possible.
I'd be happy to. Okay, now, not
to put no pressure on you, but
isn't your job to put pressure on me?
Yes.
Shalom, I can't remember.
How much...
A couple weeks ago, you donated to our HBCU.
How much did you get?
I did.
I gave...
I can't remember.
I gave a quarter million to South Carolina State University.
$250,000.
$250,000.
That's not...
That's...
A guy we know named Jay-Z always says to fight different.
You know what I mean?
I'm familiar with that slogan.
Feel like fighting this morning, Michael?
Listen. I'm ready to fight. I'm ready to fight different. You know what I mean? I'm familiar with that slogan. Feel like fighting this morning, Michael? Listen, I'm ready to fight.
I'm ready to fight.
We're not asking for a number, but we like it.
I'm going to actually be really helpful to you guys.
Actually, we care about education a lot.
One of the things, I don't know if you guys saw,
Meek and I have been talking a lot about education.
We're actually going to commit, between Meek and I in Pennsylvania,
millions of dollars to Pennsylvania schools this year.
Are we going to stick Meek up too?
Go ahead.
Yeah.
So we're actually,
that's something we're going to do in 2019.
We've got,
there's a great tax incentive program.
We're going to,
I think several million dollars that Meek and I together
are going to put into Pennsylvania schools in 2019.
So we're excited about that.
But I'd love to help.
And you've got me committed.
Okay.
All right.
He didn't say how much,
but we'll find out later.
But we appreciate you for doing it.
I'll tell you off there.
Okay.
How's that?
That's fine. And we'll bring it back on in. We tell you off there. Okay. How's that? That's fine.
And we'll bring it back on in.
We got to put pressure on the rappers and everybody else.
That's all.
Because I'm happy.
It's a good day.
We need $100,000 to help out.
How's that for you?
Michael!
Biggest donation we got so far.
I wasn't expecting that.
Fight different.
Fight different, Michael.
Fight, fight, fight, Michael.
Now, here's the thing I need from you guys.
I want you to pressure everyone to help.
So, one by one.
You guys got to increase your skills, increase the pressure.
I want you guys to go for the hard clothes.
That's what I do in the business.
Yes, we're in.
Absolutely.
So, he set it off, Michael.
If you didn't hear, he set $100,000.
Come on now.
He's good for it. All you rappers, all you athletes, all you entertainers, Michael Rubin has the biggest
donation thus far, $100,000.
What you going to do?
$100,000.
Wow.
Well, Michael, we thank you, Michael.
Well, you too, 50.
My pleasure. I might wear a Sixers jersey now. All right. for 100 grand, what you going to do? $100,000. Wow. Thank you, Michael.
My pleasure. I might wear a Sixers jersey now. Alright.
Hold on. If you guys all become Sixers fans,
we're good. If you guys become Sixers
fans for the season, Sixers jerseys all year,
we could go to 125. I wear Allen Iverson jerseys.
I've been wearing Allen Iverson jerseys for 20 years.
Hold on. If you guys wear Sixers jerseys
from this point for the rest of the season,
every show, we'll go to 125.
I have no problem doing it.
I got an Allen Iverson at the crib.
I'll give you a Dr. J.
Every show?
Every show.
Every show for what?
I ain't hit that part, man.
Until the season.
Until the season.
Oh, we got one jersey.
I got you covered, fanatics.
We're going to get you lots of jerseys.
We'll get you a jersey for every show.
We'll make it different, different colored.
Can we do a day?
Yeah.
Once a day, a week, maybe every...
We'll hang it up in the studio. I'll tell you what.
Once a week, just the two of you guys
if you convince Angela, we can go off from there. How's that?
We can do that.
125, you got once a week until the season's over.
Okay, but we'll get 125.
125 is confirmed. We got you guys.
Here's the deal. You gotta wear a Sixers jersey
every once a week until the season's
over. Hopefully until that's June.
I'll get you guys different jerseys.
We're going to order them up at FNAX.
We'll let you guys pick them up.
We'll get you all different styles.
We'll make you guys look good.
I don't have a problem doing that.
I can do that.
What about not just jerseys?
What about just merch, period?
Like the jackets?
That's even fair.
You see, I'm a fair guy.
Yes, that's cool.
Sixers product once a week until the season's over.
Done.
We can do that.
All right.
One last thing.
Include Summer League.
We're going to shake it. All right One last thing. Include Summer League.
Alright.
That's the topic of Summer League.
Alright. It's the Breakfast Club. Michael Rubin.
I want to close bombs for Michael Rubin for giving the biggest donation
thus far this morning. 100
grand. 125 grand.
Yeah, and I know his 76 is one last night
so he's excited. The 125
is based on whether or not we wear the jerseys every day, right?
He sent me a jersey previously when we had a bet last year that didn't go well for me.
Well, you got to wear it once a week.
Once a week?
Yes, you got to wear it once a week.
It's for the students, for the kids to go to school and help them out.
Yeah, you can do that.
What if the Nets agree to give more than that for us to not wear it?
I doubt it. Wait, wait, wait.
The Nets ain't even sending any players up here yet.
We're already working on that. It's actually being scheduled
right now. No, because they didn't bid everywhere else.
Now, if the Nets
could do that, the Nets could pay us
not to wear a 76 jersey. I'm with that.
I'm with that. Put them and get them on the phone.
You can't do that. You can't
commit to Michael Rubin telling them you're going to wear the jersey
when somebody else pay you.
You tell, you say.
You know Cash moves everything around him.
This is for a good cause.
It don't matter.
We're giving back his $25,000.
I guess you're going to have a Brooklyn Nets day and a Philadelphia 36th day,
but you don't care no way.
You're one of them bisexual teams, team fans.
No.
Yes, you are.
I'm a Giants fan.
You a Jets Giants guy.
No, I'm a Giants guy.
You a Nets Knicks guy. No, I'm a Giants guy. You're a Nets Knicks guy.
No, I'm a Giants guy. Yes, you are. I'm a Giants all day.
You're bi, bro. I'm not bi. You're bi when it comes to your sports teams.
I am not. Yes, you are. I am not.
Yes, you are. No, I'm not. You're a bisexual sports fanatic.
I don't want to say sexual. You're a bi
sports fanatic. I'm going to Human Resources because I'm not bi.
Really? But you're a bi sports fanatic.
You just told everybody you're willing to wear a 60s jersey
one day. This is for a good cause.
This is for the kids who are trying to get to college.
You guys, can we talk about the money?
I know how difficult it is to go to college.
Can nobody make me put on another football jersey?
I'm a Dallas Cowboy fan, and that's that.
All right, let's see.
Let me see what I got in my pocket.
Nothing for me.
In your pocket?
Nothing for me.
But listen.
Is that a vibrator?
I'm glad we could shake down Michael Rubin for that money,
and we want to shake you all down, too.

and right now, we're at
$138,000.
Hey!
I like to see everybody acting their wage.
That's amazing. Nice and early, too.
That's $138,000.
Now, when we come back, Maury Povich
will be joining us. We gotta lean on all of these white people.
Maury's had that show for a long time.
Maury got a lot of bread. So you know.
Maury's been exploiting black people for a long time on that show.
So now we gotta lean on Maury to give a lot of bread. So you know. Maury's been exploiting black people for a long time on that show. So now we got to lean on Maury.
Exploit him a little bit.
To give up some of that goddamn cash that he's made off the backs of black dysfunction.
How many seasons has Maury Povich been on?
A long time.
A lot.
Is it 22 seasons?
I'm not sure.
And Maury be riding the train.
So Maury cheap.
He's saving.
He's saving.
Maury cheap.
So Maury got it.
All right.
We'll talk to Maury when we come back.
Don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. saving. Maury cheap. So Maury got it. All right. We'll talk to Maury when we come back. Don't move.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
What up, y'all?
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club.
We got a special guest in the building.
Maury!
Maury!
Maury!
Now, Maury.
Yes, sir.
We're here today on a special day.
Yeah.
Today is Change for Change.
Now, during Change for Change, we raise money for different
causes. Like the first one we did,
who do we raise money for, Charlemagne? We raise money
for the Gathering for Justice Movement, which
was Harry Belafonte's organization.
And last year we raised money for Project
357,
as Brandon Marshall's organization, to eradicate the stigma
around mental health. So now this year we're
raising money for all the HBCUs,
for African Americans to be able to go to school. So now this year, we're raising money for all the HBCUs, for African-Americans
to be able to go to school.
So we make sure
that we are giving them
scholarships to help with books,
to help with lodging,
to help with food,
to help with everything.
So today is the day
we're going to be on the radio
from 6 a.m. to midnight.
And we're asking
all our celebrity friends,
could they possibly donate
anything if possible
for the Thurgood Marshall
College Fund?
Now, not to put any stress on you,
but how much did you donate a couple weeks ago?
I donated a quarter million dollars
to South Carolina State University.
We're not saying you gotta do that,
but that's the bar, you know.
Just $250,000.
You're a multi-millionaire, Maury. You still ride
the train. You're frugal like me.
We know you got it. This is for HBCUs.
You got it. Don't you HBCUs. You got it.
Don't you want to leave some type of legacy for black people?
Don't you want? I'm trying hard.
I'm trying hard. Exactly.
There's a lot of black people on this show.
Black people already think that you make a mockery of them on your show.
What? The least you could do right now.
Don't say that. Hey, I'm just saying what the streets say.
Half of your friends watch my show.
Are you kidding me? You're right.
And more as this new game that's coming out in a week or so.
Yeah.
And it's called You're Not the Father.
I'm not putting no pressure on you, but your net worth is $60 million, Maury.
How much did you say?
$60.
Is that with?
Six.
With?
Zero.
Million.
Is that with the wife or without the wife?
Without the wife.
That's just Maury.
Oh, man.
Hold on.
Let me Google Mr. Chung's net worth. I'd like to know that myself. Hold on. Hold on. Because she's hiding it. I know she's just Mario. Oh, man. Hold on. Let's click this. Hold on. Let me Google Mr. Chung's net worth.
I'd like to know that myself.
Hold on.
Hold on.
Because she's hiding it.
I know she's hiding it.
Hold on.
Connie Chung net worth.
Yeah, right.
Holy shit.
She's worth 15 on her own.
15 plus 60.
That's a combined household of $75 million, Mr. Moore.
$250?
You gave $250 to South Carolina State?
$250,000, yeah.
Well, first of all, you got more YouTube viewers than I do.
That has nothing to do with it.
I haven't made a dime off YouTube.
You haven't?
Oh, no, no.
You got to get my agent.
Yeah, you're right.
iHeart, you hear that?
Okay.
All right.
$10,000, I'll write that down.
Hey!
Lori Pope has just donated $10,000 to the HBCUs.
That's what I'm talking about.
What do you think?
What's Charlemagne done like that?
I don't think I'm impressed.
Charlemagne, come on.
We're impressed, man.
Maury.
We're impressed.
$10,000.
We're impressed.
That's great.
It is great.
That's wonderful.
It's the thought that counts.
Yes.
But Maury shouldn't be donating the kind of money that people say things like,
it's the thought that counts.
Oh, God.
Are you kidding?
Just saying, Maury.
You're worth $60 million.
I'm just saying.
All right, make it $15.
That's it.
There we go.
We can check that today.
Maury, we appreciate you so much for donating and helping us out.
Change for change.
Maury just donated $15,000 after Charlamagne shook him down.
All right.
It's the Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
E.J.
Envy.
Angela Yee.
Charlamagne Tha God.
We are the Breakfast Club.
What's happening?
We've been shaking people down all morning for change for change, damn it.
Shout out to Michael Rubin.
He donated $125,000.
That's right.
So far.
Salute to Maury Povich.
He's been making money off dysfunctional black families for how many seasons?
22 seasons? So we had to shake him
down for $15,000. For $15,000?
A little cheap. A little cheap.
You can't say cheap. Come on now. We appreciate it.
Everything counts. We appreciate it. You can't do that.
Yes, but he's been making a lot of money off
dysfunctional black families for 22 seasons. He rides the train.
We don't know what else he's doing. Thought he would dug a little deeper.
We are happy that he dug a little deeper. We are happy that he donated.
He didn't have to.
Don't act like you didn't
think he was going
to dig a little deeper.
No, I didn't actually.
Oh, you didn't think
he was going to give nothing, huh?
I thought it was going
to be like more like
two, three thousand.
I'm happy for that.
No, thank you so much
to Tamari for donating.
All right, well,
let's get to the rumors.
Let's salute to Mike Rubin
for showing us
what a real white ally
looks like.
They're both...
Shut up.
Allies.
Let's get to the... You a foul both allies. Let's get to the rumors.
You a foul, man.
Let's get to the rumors.
Let's get in people's pockets, man.
Let's talk money.
It's about time.
What's going on?
Rumor Report.
Rumor Report.
This is the Rumor Report.
Talk to them.
With Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club.
Well, it's open.
Shaquille O'Neal has opened up an $80 million shack tower
in Newark.
It's right by NJPAC, New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
And yeah, the units can be leased with prices
ranging from $1,800 for a studio,
$1,950 for a one-bedroom,
and $2,700 for a two-bedroom.
They also have parking available
for an additional $150 a month.
That's good.
Drop on the Clues Bonds for Shaquille O'Neal.
I love Newark.
I know a lot of people, you might hear that and be like, well, that was expensive.
That's actually low-income housing in these areas.
Like, that is actually great.
And it's a brand-new facility.
It looks beautiful.
Well, Shaq is $1,800 a month.
That's the starting point.
For a studio.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
All right.
So he's excited about it.
No, no, no. You know, Shaq said excited about it. I wouldn't call it low income.
No, no, no. You know, Shaq said it's historic.
He said it's going to continue to beautify our city.
Yes.
So right now, the tower is officially called 50 Rector Park.
I love Newark, man.
They said $1,800 for a studio?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, no, that's not low income.
My bad.
Invest in Newark.
I don't think that's low income.
I thought he said two.
I thought it was a three family.
It has rooftop cabanas.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, no.
It has grills. It has a gym, amenities room, yeah. Oh, no. It has grills.
It has a gym, amenities room, all of those things.
800 for a studio is about low income.
That's the building for what Newark is about to be.
Correct.
Because Newark is transforming.
You know what I mean?
Correct, correct, correct.
So that's the building that in five years you'll be like, oh, okay.
That's why he put this here.
Now, clearly Shaq has a lot of money, as you all know.
I mean, he's a restaurateur, a franchise owner, an investor.
He currently owns a Krispy Kreme Donuts franchise in Atlanta.
He used to own 27 Five Guys Burgers and Fries franchises.
He's the founder and owner of Big Chicken, which is a casual fried chicken restaurant in Vegas.
And he also has Shaquille's, a fine dining restaurant in L.A., which I did go to when I was in L.A.
He's also a minority owner of the Sacramento Kings NBA franchise.
Who got Shaq's number?
Somebody hit Shaq number up
Does anybody have Shaq's number?
We'll call him up
He owns a lot of Atlantic City
I think he owns like over 50 townhomes in Atlantic City
So he's got it
And he could use a tax write off
Alright another person we should reach out to
Is Post Malone
He actually just re-upped with Crocs
And you know Listen his previous Crocs. And, you know, listen,
his previous Crocs deal,
the fourth installment.
That is so white.
Can it get any whiter?
It sold out in just minutes.
Nope.
Just so you know.
So the Posty Crocs collab
will hit select retailers
and the Crocs online shop
on December 10th at 10 a.m.
So anybody that wants to get
those Post Malone Crocs
can put that on their calendar
and get ready for that. Emi, you want me to get my Post Malone Crocs can put that on their calendar and get ready for that.
Emmy, you want me to get my hookup to get them for you?
I'll pass.
Yeah, I'm cool on the Post Malone Crocs.
I'm good.
But listen, his previous three collaborations all sold out in minutes, so there's clearly
a demand for this.
Well, you know what?
Also, just recently, he left a $1,000 tip at Mel's Drive-In.
He was there going to eat.
He was taking pictures with fans at the restaurant and everything, and then left a $1,000 tip. So I know he's
got it. Yeah, Post Malone Crocs sound like they
come with their own sweat already.
Little beard stains on them. Oh my
God. Let me see what they're going for. Hold on. Hold on.
Let me see what they're going for. Look what they look like.
I'm StockX. $600
on StockX. See? $70
for this color. You might want to invest.
The perfect shoe to go
$175. Perfect shoe to go mudding in.
Listen, the first time I ever met Bill Cosby, I interviewed him when I was at Sirius, and he had on a pair of Crocs.
I just remember that he was walking around in a Crocs early on.
Yeah, that's going to really get the sales of Crocs up.
Yeah, that'll do it.
And I was like, oh.
That's helping.
That'll do it.
I think that might have been the first time I ever saw somebody wearing Crocs.
Yeah, I'll pass.
All right.
So, well, a lot of people are buying it.
They're selling out.
I'm sure this is going to sell out in minutes also.
And let's get started talking about the Grammys.
Lizzo leads the 2020 Grammy.
She has eight nominations.
Congratulations.
Anyone have Lizzo's number?
No.
Because she can definitely donate to Change for Change.
She's getting all kinds of accolades right now.
Salute to Lizzo.
Drama, you got a number?
She hates me.
No, she actually likes you. So she hates me. No, she actually likes you.
So she hates me. No, she called Drama F-Boy.
And she was right. Billie Eilish and Little
Nas X both have six nominations
each. And the three of them are all
first-time Grammy nominees. So Lizzo,
Billie Eilish, Little Nas X. Now, I
do want to point out somebody that is
nominated, right? And he was very excited
to get nominated. And I know,
Envy, you can get in touch with him.
Who's that? Offset. Here's what he had to
say when he got nominated. He posted this on his
Instagram. Yes, sir, man.
Since I got Grammy nominated, I wanted to
reward myself with a Ferrari.
812 Superfast.
He bought an 812 Ferrari.
How much does that run? Anywhere from
about $425 to $550
depending on the options.
All right, so Offset bought himself a new Ferrari,
so I know right now he can donate to Chains for Chains.
Who else is nominated?
I saw the baby nominated.
And by the way, Alicia Keys is going to be hosting, just so you know.
I saw 21 Savage nominated.
Yes, Her was nominated.
Post Malone and Sway Lee for Sunflower, they were nominated.
The Grammys missed a few in the rap category.
Yes, Rhapsody. Rhapsody, Eve,
definitely got robbed. Conceptually and sonically, that's the best rap album of the year to me.
Freddie Gibbs' Bandana
should have been nominated. Well, let's talk about what
those nominations were. Best R&B album
was BJ the Chicago Kid got
nominated, Lucky Day, LMA,
PJ Morton,
and Anderson.Paak.
Best Rap Performance,
J. Cole for Middle Child,
DaBaby for Suge,
Down Bad,
Dreamville featuring
J.I.D.,
Bass,
J. Cole,
Earth King,
and Young Nudie.
Racks in the Middle,
Nipsey Hussle featuring
Roddy Ricch and Hip Boy,
and by the way,
Nipsey Hussle,
as you know,
was nominated.
Offset featuring
Cardi B,
Clout,
so those were all nominated for it.
I would have to go with Cola Baby for that one.
Best Rap Album, Dreamville, Revenge of the Dreamers 3, Meek Mill Championships, 21 Savage, I Am Greater Than I Was, Tyler, The Creator.
Also, YBN Cordae, congratulations to him.
He was nominated for his album, The Lost Boy.
Here was his reaction.
Man, what the f***, bro?
This s*** crazy, n***a.
Great.
Okay, great.
I definitely, I like 21's album.
I feel like Wale should have been on for On Chill.
Wale should have got a nomination for On Chill.
Was it early enough?
I don't know.
Because I know there's also a timing thing.
All right, I'm Angela Yee, and that is your rumor report so far.
All right, now you know we're here until midnight.
When we come back, we'll give you an update, and we still need you to donate.
So Kenya, please text CHANGE to 52182 or hit up the website bcchange4change.com
for raising money for the Thorogood Marshall Fund,
which helps students get into HBCUs with scholarships,
whether it's towards books, education, tuition, lodging,
whatever it may be.
We'll give you an update,
and we might take some calls when we come back.
So don't move.
It's the Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
All right.
Now, we usually do donkey of the day right here.
Correct.
But it's a special occasion.
Mm-hmm.
Because today is change for change.
It is our annual Radiothon,
benefiting the Breakfast Club's HBU scholarship, right?
HBCU.
HBCU, and it's the Thorogood Marshall College Fund.
There you go.
So up to date right now, as of five minutes ago.
Come on now, we've only been here two hours.
We've raised.
How long have we been here?
Two hours and four minutes?
Yep.
$168,000.
Come on now.
Come on now.
That's pretty good for an anti-black show.
Oh my gosh.
Come on now. That's pretty good for an anti-black show. Oh, my gosh. Come on now.
That's pretty good for an anti-black show.
$168,000.
Shout out to Michael Rubin, $125,000.
Shout out to Maury Povich.
He donated $15,000, which makes me happy.
So many people donated.
I'll name some of them.
Shout out to Calvin B. from Brooklyn.
He donated $30.
Shout out to Steel Plumbing.
$100.
Salute to Dr. Harvey Spencer Jr.
from Rock Hill, South Carolina. He donated
$500. Salute to my South Carolina
brethren. I see you, sir.
Shout to Joy from St. Petersburg, Florida.
She donated $250.
Salute to Latasha Brighman from
Columbia, South Carolina. She donated $10.
You are appreciated.
Those are donations I really like.
Absolutely.
You know what I mean?
I really like, I mean, don't get me wrong.
I love the big donations as well,
but I love the $10 and the $5
because that is people acting their wage
and that is people doing what they can
and those little donations add up.
That's what makes the difference.
And I see a lot of people from Brooklyn
representing on here too.
Sharon from Brooklyn.
Also, Sean from Brooklyn.
Sean DeGaulle from Brooklyn. Rashida Boyd from Brooklyn. Brooklyn is on here too. Sharon from Brooklyn. Also Sean from Brooklyn. Sean DeGaulle from Brooklyn.
Rashida Boyd from Brooklyn.
Brooklyn is heavy in here. So shout out to Brooklyn. I see Detroit on here too.
Jason Terry. Yeah, Newport News,
Virginia. Florida trying to prove they're not crazy.
Newark. What up, Newark? It's a lot of
FLs on here. It's a lot of Florida.
A lot of Florida there. Yep. Shout out to Florida. A lot of
Virginia. I see Corey Fenner from Jacksonville. Jacksonville
really, really heavy. Jacksonville more than everybody. Shout out to Florida. A lot of Virginia Beach. I see Corey Fenner from Jacksonville. Jacksonville, really, really heavy.
Jacksonville more than everybody.
Calvin B from Brooklyn.
North Carolina as well.
Jillian Faber.
She's from Orange Park, Florida.
Mm-hmm.
Lance Walters from Brooklyn.
Mm-hmm.
All right.
Well, Joey Zimmerman.
No.
What do you see there?
I'm playing.
We're going to get that one back.
Oh, all right.
All right.
When we come back, Chadwick Boseman will be joining us.
I'm kind of joking.
What if he did? We'd have to send that one back.
We'd have to send that back.
When we come back, Chadwick Boseman will be joining us.
Of course, he went to Howard University.
He has a new movie coming out this week.
It's called 21 Bridges.
Gotta shake Chadwick down.
Chadwick is from Anderson, South Carolina.
I gotta put the pressure on him. You know what I mean?
All right, so we'll kick it with him when we come back.
So don't move.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club.
Of course, today is Change for Change.
We're raising money for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. And today, we have a special guest in the building, Chadwick Boseman.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you for letting me in.
You're welcome.
You got 21 Bridges coming.
That's right.
This is your first film not associated with Black Panthers in 2017.
You feel any pressure?
Nah, nah, I feel completely free.
Okay.
You know, it's just good to be doing something different.
Glad I have that, you know what I'm saying?
But I'm glad to be able to step into a different genre and style and play.
And you're playing a cop, so how are we going to feel about you after this? I'm glad to be able to step into a different genre and style and play.
And you're playing a cop, so how are we going to feel about you after this?
Or while we're watching you? Are we going to like you or are we going to not like you?
How do you feel about cops?
It depends.
There's some good cops and some bad cops.
I don't know the history, you know.
There's some good cops and some bad cops.
So what kind of cop are you?
I'm a cop.
You're a cop. I think the job comes with, you know, you're dealing with situations where you're judging things.
And as a judge, you know, sometimes you do right, you do wrong.
It's not a normal cop, though.
You're hunting down people who kill cops.
That's right.
Yes.
That's right.
That's never pleasant.
But we don't know what happens at the end.
They don't show us the whole thing in the trailer.
He finally catches the guy. They're in the train, but we don't know what happens at the end. They don't show us the whole thing in the trailer. He finally catches the guy.
They're in the train, but we don't know what happens,
what he does out of that.
Does he understand the guy's story?
Did you just give the whole movie away?
I don't know.
I mean, that's in the trailer.
I don't know.
We don't know what happens.
Hey, I think we must be telling people too much in these trailers.
You know, it's a situation where everybody's a little dirty.
That's the best.
I don't want to give anything away.
Everybody has, in the job, I'm not saying the job requires them to break the law,
but in the midst of judging the law, that's part of it.
It's sort of biblical.
It's a book called Judges.
So that's the reality of the job.
And I think we try to explore it in the most real way we can.
And, you know, I was with real cops the entire time.
From pre-production on, you know, I trained with a LAPD officer.
And then we were in New York doing ride-alongs with NYPD detectives.
How was that?
It was scarier at first.
As a black man, you know, you get in the back of the police car and you're like.
It's not a good place to be. It's not feel be, you know, but then they're talking to you.
You're like, OK, yeah, there's no cage. I'm good. And they're human beings.
So did it change your opinion of cops?
It changed my opinion of the people, not of the institution.
But at the same time, it made me understand why, you know, why people are the way they are.
There are people trying to do the right thing,
and there are people that are not.
And, you know, they were honest about that.
How much did you have to think about doing this role?
Was it one of those things because was it a problem?
Like, damn, do I really want to play a cop right now
with everything that's going on?
Yeah, no, I had to think about it.
People love me because of Black Panther.
It was like, did you have to think about that?
Well, see, yeah, that's a question,
but then that's the reason to do it you know what i'm saying because you know one you you have to get out of your box you have to get out of your way your ego
um because it ain't about being loved and you know compassion is everything stepping inside
the shoes of somebody that you may normally not agree with is a good thing to explore that life for a second.
We need that.
We need people trying to understand
both sides of a thing in order to
make the right decision for everybody.
Plus, Black Panther 2 is coming in 2022,
so they'll love you again.
They'll love you again.
She said again.
They're never going to love you for nothing else.
Listen, I asked y'all,
I don't know how I don't know.
How do you feel?
Like, I see how you feel.
Listen, you're described as a trigger-happy cop in the description.
I don't like trigger-happy cops.
Yeah, but the situations in the movie, I can tell you this because it's in the trailer.
You know, his father was killed.
And so the character has this need to get close to where the wrong is.
He's been trying to find who did this.
Well, he knows who did it, but he's been trying to right that wrong and find justice.
So he gets closer to evil than normal.
So he does pull his trigger more.
Right.
Like, it's not necessarily that he's killing.
But it's a good question because that's when you ask that question,
did you have to think about it?
You know, as I'm reading, I'm like, I don't know.
Because if he's killing us for no reason in the street, stop or frisk, whatever,
then I have a problem with that.
Was there any lingering trauma from this role that you had to unpack then?
After the filming?
No.
It's interesting because usually I have to have a
sort of exorcist.
You know, but I think with
this, because the whole thing is sort of like
that, it didn't require that.
You know, for me, the first time we went
to the gun range and I was like, oh,
I'm using this gun and I had
issues with it. So through the course
of it, it actually helped me as opposed to me having to get rid of something. I wonder about coincidence, right? Because I'm using this gun and I had issues with it. So through the course of it, it actually helped me
as opposed to me
having to get rid of something.
I wonder about coincidence, right?
Because I'm a conspiracy theorist.
So you got this movie coming out,
which is about a man
hunting cops.
I mean, hunting people
for killing cops.
And Queen of Slim
comes out next week,
which is about two black people
on the run for killing a cop.
Right.
Did Hollywood do that on purpose?
That's why I love you, man.
It's funny to hear because that's a lot of times people do feel like Hollywood is a conspiracy.
Sometimes it might be.
This is just because here's the difference.
We did this.
Lena is spearheading her thing.
There's no white person behind her
telling her to do that. You know what I'm saying?
And with this, I'm a producer
on this film. So
it wouldn't get made if I didn't want to get made.
Alright, we got more with Chadwick Boseman when we come
back. Also, we're asking you to donate
and you can donate by texting
CHANGE to 52182
or visit bcchangeforchange.com.
We're raising money
for the Thurgood Marshall
College Fund.
So please donate
and we got more
with Chadwick Boseman
when we come back.
Howdy, it's DJ Envy,
Angela Yee,
Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club.
We're still kicking it
with Chadwick Boseman,
Thurgood Marshall.
You played him.
Right.
Today, we're doing something
really, really big.
We are raising money
for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
Okay.
Which is helping young students go to HBCUs, black students go to HBCUs.
Okay.
You went to the fake HU, but it's still cool.
Okay.
You can't do that while you're raising money for all HBCUs.
You can't call one of them fake to do something and shit on the HBCUs.
We've been here since 6 a.m.
We're leaving tonight at midnight.
We're trying to raise anything we possibly can.
And if you're out there listening, you can text change to 52182.
So there's no number.
You can get $10.
But, you know, I just want to tell what some of the people have donated.
Oh, gosh.
Charlamagne, you donated to South Carolina, which is HBCU.
South Carolina State.
You know, my mom went there.
You know, we South Carolina people over here. How much did you Carolina State, you know, my mom went there. We South Carolina people over here.
How much did you donate? I can't remember the number you donated.
Last month I gave a cool quarter million.
$250,000. No pressure.
Right. Wakanda is coming back.
What the f*** are you talking about?
Wakanda.
Black Panther's coming back shortly. This movie's amazing.
You just produced this new movie.
Something. Okay.
I'm not going to go to 250
because I got some other stuff
I need to do.
It's the holiday season.
We understand.
It's the holiday season.
I know, but I'm saying like, yeah.
You don't have to say a number.
Yeah, but.
Huh?
You don't have to say a number.
Don't say a number?
You can.
No, you can say a number.
You can say a number.
You don't have to.
Are y'all working together or not?
We were working together.
Good cop, bad cop.
She's working against y'all, right?
I'm saying, I don't want you to feel pressure to say a number unless you want to. We were working against you. Back up, back up. She was working against us. She was like, she's working against y'all right now.
I'm saying, I don't want you to feel pressure to say a number unless you want to. No, we want them to feel pressure.
Black people are visual people.
If they hear you say a number, they'll be inspired.
So let me just tell you something.
So Maury Povich.
That's not visual.
Maury, he gave $15,000.
Right.
Michael Rubin, partner of the 76ers.
Yeah.
He gave $100,000.
Yeah.
But then he threw in another $25,000 if we wear a Sixers jersey once a week.
Just give us 10% of whatever Black Panther made.
We'll take that.
No.
It's like, this is crazy.
I feel the energy over here, the energy over here.
Go ahead.
Keep going, keep going.
That's all we've done.
That was our pitch.
That's it.
That was our pitch.
Okay.
That was our spill. So do I have to was our pitch. Okay. That was our spill.
So do I have to give it to a specific school?
Or can I give it to...
No, you just can't give it to Howard, man.
You give it to the Thurgood Marshall Foundation.
But you just said South Carolina State.
Well, I did this.
I did that on my own.
That was a direct...
Oh, okay, okay.
So we, you know...
Oh, so y'all threw that in.
That ain't have nothing to do with it.
That ain't have nothing to do with it.
It sounded good.
It sounded good when you hit that $250,000.
You know, I want to be clear when I'm being hustled.
You know what I'm saying?
Oh, my God.
I will give $100,000.
What?
$100,000.
Wakanda fuck.
Wow.
That's amazing.
Wow.
Wow, child.
Charles Bozeman.
Charles Bozeman is the greatest black actor of our generation.
Yes, he is, man.
Howard University is the best school.
Sorry, Michael B.
Sorry, Jason Mitchell.
Sorry, Chief Stanfield.
Y'all don't know.
Howard's number one.
He's the greatest black actor of our generation.
He's not even close.
I'm sorry, Hampton.
I know you're going to call me, but hey.
All right, everybody go see 21 Bridges.
He just made in the shit on his own HBCU.
He said Howard is number one.
I did, man.
Damn.
That's all it took?
Pretty much.
Oh, my God.
All right, well, we appreciate you for joining us.
You just made my day.
You made a lot of Howard's people day.
But he's just not feeling it too much right now.
You want to wear a 76ers jersey one time a week until the season's over?
Yeah, but I didn't go to college.
You shit on your HBCU just now.
You can never say the real H-U ever again.
We're going to play this clip over and over.
And I just want to say...
Howard is going to play this on their website.
Until somebody in my college donates $101,000.
This is going to go viral.
You're in Flippin, New Jersey.
Everything sold is sold.
We got one more minute.
Now, just to let you know,
my people will be vetting this organization
to make sure it's on the up and up. You played
Thurgood Marshall. You played Thurgood Marshall.
I'm just, that was the Thurgood Marshall college
for you. That ain't got nothing to do with my money.
That's right.
Speaking of that, do you think your roles
in other movies were
appreciated more after Black Panther?
Like the Thurgood Marshall, like the
Jackie Robinson? I hope so. To be honest
with you, you hope that people appreciate
the roles that you do. That is actually part of
the body of work. You know what I'm saying?
Because for me, I'm
trying to look for different stuff.
And, you know, if you
watch something new,
then I feel like you should be able to appreciate
the old stuff because you saw, oh, that's
a different part of him. Did you ever feel like
Black Panther would overshadow the rest
of your career?
Because it's hard.
No.
You got to get sick
of hearing Wakanda.
No.
Wakanda forever.
No, I want Wakanda.
I want us to be Wakanda.
Word, word, word, word, word.
Yeah, I don't want to get
sick and tired of hearing it
because I want,
that's, it's an ideal
to reach, basically.
So, yeah, people,
I don't get upset
when people are asking me to do the thing. I get upset when people, I don't get upset when people are asking me
to do the thing.
I get upset
when people want me to do it
like I'm tap dancing.
Oh, right.
Right?
Not upset, but it's like,
but like I'm not
tap dancing for you.
Like, do that Wakanda thing.
You know what I mean?
It's a salute.
You know what I'm saying?
So if you do it to me,
I do it back to you.
Yes, if you black,
you walk up to you
and go boom.
White people be like,
hey, do that Wakanda thing. How does I do it back to you. Yes. If you're black, you walk up to you and go, boom. White people will be like, hey, do that.
What kind of thing?
How does part two start?
It starts.
No, I'm just kidding.
Well, we really appreciate you for joining us, man.
The movie 21 Bridges is in theater this Friday.
Go check it out.
And thank you so much.
That's right.
And yes, Howard is number one today.
21 Bridges.
Tomorrow.
Oh, today.
21 Bridges starring the greatest black actor of our generation from South Carolina
who donated $100,000 to Goddamn Change for Change.
That's right.
Amazing.
We appreciate you, brother.
Appreciate you, man.
Chadwick Boseman, it's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Come on.
We in here.
We're back to the music and The Breakfast Club's Change for Change Radiothon.
Text CHANGE to 52182 right now to donate.
Power 105.1.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ MV, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club.
Now, don't forget, change for change.
We're here until midnight.
You can text CHANGE to 52182, and you can donate as well.
And right now, we're over a quarter million dollars, baby.
We're over $256,000. That is huge.
It's only been three hours.
Yes, we got a long way to go.
I'm happy about this because I gave a quarter million to South Carolina State University last month.
So I'm glad that in the first few hours, we've already gotten more than I gave.
That's right.
And we need some of the labels, too.
All the labels that come up here all the time. We need some of them labels to donate for a good cause, man.
Why don't
you? Where's Def Jam at?
Where's Atlantic? Is there
still record labels that exist? Oh,
Quality Control. Who's the Quality Control?
Quality Control, Def Jam, Atlantic.
Oh, we got Lean On The Baby.
Arnold Taylor and all them.
The Baby. Yep.
Who else we thinking? I don't know.
Why can't there be no record labels off the top of my head no more?
I can't think of any.
We said Atlantic.
Interscope still exists?
Yeah, Interscope still exists.
Are you kidding me?
300 exists.
I don't know.
I'm not into that business like y'all.
All right.
Anyway, let's get to the rumors.
Let's talk Carmelo.
It's time.
She's spilling the tea.
This is the Rumor Report with Angela Yee On The Breakfast Club
Yes, so how happy are you
To see Carmelo
Playing in the NBA again?
I'm happy for him
Well, he did post
A message to his fans
He called the last 18 months
An emotional rollercoaster
Here's what he said
The last year and a half
Man, it's just been
Like an emotional rollercoaster
All of this started On a Wednesday I got the call Wednesday Thought about it Last year and a half, man, has just been like an emotional roller coaster.
All of this started on a Wednesday.
I got the call Wednesday, thought about it.
Then Thursday, that Thursday was a commitment, which led to the next day, which was a Friday,
which they wanted me to come and get right into it.
Let me just get three, four days of just like getting back into it mentally and emotionally. I had, you know, almost detached myself from the game a little bit just to give myself
some sanity and not think about it.
But once I got that call, the challenge was for me to just flip that back mentally.
Dropping the clues bombs with Carmelo Anthony.
How y'all fun on Carmelo?
I don't know, but I'm glad he's back in the league.
The man can still give you 13 to 15 points a game, man.
All right.
Now let's talk about,
and by the way, he's playing again. Y'all should hit him up for some money.
Carmelo? For change.
By the way, even when Carmelo wasn't playing, Carmelo was never
hurting for no money. Of course he wasn't hurting, but I'm
saying now that this is front and center in the news
that he's back on the team, this is a
great time to be like, come on, let's do this.
Alright, now another person you might want to
hit up for some money, because maybe he'll get some, is
Jussie Smollett. He is suing Chicago for maliciously pursuing a case against him,
and that's because of the claims that he was a victim of a racist and homophobic attack earlier this year.
He's filing that countersuit for malicious prosecution.
He alleges that the city officials were out to pin the blame on him
for the alleged assault that left his life and reputation in tatters.
Now, Basib has these court papers,
and he's saying that the cops spread lies about him in the media
and coerced his alleged attackers into implicating him as a mastermind of that attack.
He also says that the Ansu Dario brothers' statements were false and self-serving,
and he said the Chicago PD closed the case and slapped him with 16 criminal charges,
even though they had statements from two witnesses that corroborated his version of events.
Jussie don't know when to quit, huh?
Does Jussie realize nobody's thinking about this anymore but him and the Chicago PD?
And as long as he keeps doing like this, he keeps bringing the story back up?
Well, I think they were already suing him, so now he's counter-suing them.
Right.
And shout out to Jussie.
You know, Jussie donated our first year doing this and he didn't call in. He didn't
advertise it. He donated quietly. He just did it
on the low. His name just popped up. We just happened to see his name
and see he donated. I don't know if he'll do that now.
Are we sure the money wasn't counterfeit?
Was the money real?
But we do appreciate
each and every donation
that comes our way.
Yes, we do. Jussie, if you want to donate, feel free.
Too late now. What do you mean too late? Just made fun of him. Tell him how to donate. He might. Yes, we do. Jussie, if you want to donate, feel free. Too late now. What do you mean too late?
Just made fun of him.
Tell him how to donate.
He might.
Yes, text CHANGE to 52182 or visit bcchangeforchange.com.
You know what I mean?
All dollars are welcome.
There you go.
As long as they're real.
No counterfeit money.
Okay?
Hate you, man.
No hoax money.
All right.
All right.
That is your rumor report revolt. we'll see you guys later.
Y'all get to go home.
Yeah, y'all get to go home.
We're staying here till midnight.
Everybody else, the people's choice.
What about Revolt?
We lean on Revolt yet?
We lean on Diddy?
Well, Diddy said-
Diddy went to a HBCU.
He ain't graduate.
And he does donate to his HBCU all the time.
Yeah, he said he's figuring it out.
You talked to him?
They did.
Who is they?
Eddie.
Oh, okay.
Our producer. All right. He said he's figuring it out. Oh, we just text Did did. Uh-oh. Who's they? Eddie. Oh, okay. Our producer.
Alright. He said he's figuring it out.
Oh, we just text Diddy. Alright, let's text him. You ain't got Diddy's number. Alright, let's text him.
People's Choice Mix is up next. Let me know what HBCU
you went to if you went to an HBCU.
And let's donate. Text CHANGE to 52182.
It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee,
Charlamagne Tha God.
We are The Breakfast Club.
Now, today is a very special day.
We have Lena Waithe in the building.
Yes, indeed.
Her movie comes out on the 27th.
And, Lena, today's a big day.
Oh, you didn't even tell her you're doing this?
No.
Nope.
Wow.
No, nope, nope.
Whatever.
She'll catch along.
Let's get it.
So we've been on the radio since 6 a.m.
We're not leaving until midnight tonight.
And what we're doing is we're raising money for the Thorogood Marshall College Fund.
Love it.
Now, that college fund helps, of course, students that want to go to HBCU,
house them with scholarships, whether it's books or, you know, living arrangements,
food, whatever we can do to get, you know.
Tell Lena what we're doing.
We're here all day.
I just said that.
Oh, I didn't hear you.
I missed that part.
You listening, man?
You see what I'm saying?
It's Cowboys one time.
He's so excited. No, I'm just listening to you shake her
down. I'm like, wow, you didn't even give her a heads up.
I know. I love it. I'm just
asking. He know I got it. That's what the deal is.
So, you know, everybody out there,
we're asking to text CHANGE to 52182.
Of course, Queen
and Slim comes out on the 27th. You guys
gotta go support that. But we know you
love black people.
I do.
Love them.
I do.
Now, you know, we're just going to ask for a little bit.
Now, just to let you know what the range is now.
Yeah.
Charlamagne.
Uh-huh.
I keep forgetting.
How much did you donate?
$500?
No, I gave South Carolina State University, my mom's alma mater, I gave them $250,000
last month.
Oh, big things.
So, you know.
Okay.
It just radio pays. It does. Uh, big things. So, you know. Okay. It just radio pays.
It does.
Uh-huh.
You know.
Uh-huh.
So that's the range.
That's the range.
Got it.
That's the range.
Got it.
Got it.
So, you know, especially with, you know, the success of The Chi, this movie that's coming
out is so great.
Queen and Slim.
Don't bring up AT&T.
Okay.
Oh, the AT&T money.
Crazy.
I hear your voice all the time.
I don't even see you lean a face.
I just hear the voice.
Word.
So, you know, we just ask.
Maury gave, let me just tell you a little quick.
Maury gave $15,000.
Oh, oh.
Michael Rubin.
Michael Rubin, you know, the 76ers guy?
Yeah.
He gave $125,000.
Okay.
Too many white people giving way too much.
Okay.
Guilt.
Damn. These white people giving big numbers. Y'all like,000. Okay. Too many white people giving way too much. Okay. Guilt. Damn.
These white people
giving big numbers.
Y'all like, okay.
So we just ask you
for a little bit.
A little bit.
A little bit.
Okay.
Let's see.
And I do have to announce it
on the thing.
You know, I'm married now,
so I got to discuss every spin.
Very true.
I like your style.
I say the same thing
when people ask me that,
but I got to talk to my wife.
I got to talk to my wife.
I got to talk to my wife.
But I'll tell you this.
My wife loves black people
as much as I do.
So when I talk to her, we're going to come up with a number.
We're going to hit y'all back.
We got you.
Okay.
You know that.
You know that.
So we need to buy it midnight tonight, though.
Oh, for sure.
I got you.
That's no big deal.
I got you.
That's real shit.
Like, Envy, look at me.
Like, I got you.
I know.
I know.
I know where to find you anyway.
So just in case.
Just in case.
Look at this guy over here playing trailers and shit.
He's done.
I want to see the Queen of Slim Trails.
Now you want to see it.
Now you want to see the trailer.
He's over here getting ready
for the next interview.
He's like, hold on.
He's like, hold on.
Keisha Cole's coming in.
Watch her latest video.
Well, the Queen of Slim,
you can check it out
on the 27th.

are going to rent out a theater.
We got your food.
They are.

Ready, Set, Play.
Ready, Play, One.
Ready, Play, One.
My fault.
Ready, Play, One.
See what I'm saying?
Wow.
Text change.
That wasn't really black.
I just did that because you was in it.
You do a Spielberg movie.
Yes.
And people are like, Ready, Go, Set.
Ready, Go, Set.
Jenny, Set, Go.
I'm not familiar with that movie. But I only did that because Lena was in it. Yo, and people were like, ready, go, set. Ready, go, set. She was like, I'm not familiar with that movie.
But I only did that
because Lena was in it.
Yo, and it's good though.
Ready Player One
is really great.
Obviously you did the wrong movie
because nobody knows
that movie.
Ready Player Go,
that screener was packed.
Yeah, Ready Player Go.
I don't know.
What's it called?
I don't know what it's called.
Ready Player One.
Ready Player One.
Yeah, there you go.
You can see anywhere.
That's a white movie anyway.
Hey, oh my goodness.
I make that movie quite black.
Yes, you do.
Okay?
Yeah.
Yeah, y'all got to host the screening.
Seriously, because Snoop has to host the screening.
Yep.
Done.
We're going to do it.
Done.
We're going to be lit.
Come on, let's go.
Done deal.
So text change to 52182, and it's The Breakfast Club.

and we're trying to raise as much money as possible
for the Thorogood Marshall College Fund,
which benefits students trying to go to HBCUs.
It helps with scholarships for books, tuition,
lodging, food, internships, and all that.
So it's a great cause.
I'm very happy how this has gone so far.
I did not expect, you know, in the first four hours
for us to raise damn near $300,000.
But, you know, it's a good time.
That's right.
It's a good time of year, you know.
HBCUs is something that everybody is around right now.
There's a lot of energy around HBCUs is what I'm basically trying to say.

Just remember that you reap what you sow.
Life is like a boomerang.
Our thoughts, our deeds, our words, our actions return to us sooner or later
with astounding accuracy.

if it's a dollar, five dollars, ten dollars,
twenty dollars, AccuWage, whatever
you can give, we appreciate it. You reap what you
sow. Peace. Or not peace,

for now. Breakfast club, bitches!
You all finished or y'all done?

starting your own? I planted the
flag. This is mine. I own this.
It's surprisingly easy.

of concrete. Or maybe not.
No country willingly gives up
their territory. Oh my God.
What is that?
Bullets.
