On a recent episode, I sat down with Nick Jonas, singer, songwriter, actor, and global superstar.
Starting point is 00:01:50 I went blank. I hit a bad note, and then I couldn't kind of recover. And I built up this idea that music and being musician was my whole identity. I had to sort of relearn who I was if you took this thing away. Who am I? Listen to On Purpose with Jay Chetty on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm a homeguard that knows a little bit about everything and everybody. You hear that excuse?
Starting point is 00:02:17 You don't know if you're going to lie about that, right? Lauren came in hot. Hey, y'all, what's up? It's Lauren LaRosa, and this is the latest with Lauren Lerosa. This is your daily dig on all things, pop culture, entertainment. news and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. All right. Now, you're going to check in behind the scenes of the grind just real quick.
Starting point is 00:02:39 Let's do it. So checking in behind the scenes of the grind, I think today, I always put like a, how am I feeling? I don't know. Today was one of those days where I feel like I got clarity in some things. And I don't know about y'all, but, you know, I'm a little hard. not only in my heart headed I just like I need to hear and see things very clearly in order for me to really move off of them and when I say move off of them I mean in order for me to be able to
Starting point is 00:03:13 figure out okay what is the solution if it's like a problem that I'm I'm looking at and I'm trying to you know it's a little foggy in a situation or what am I doing wrong if you know I keep running up against the same wall and I'm like, why do I keep getting here? So I've been talking to you guys recently just about some feelings and different things experiencing day to day and work at work. And today, and I've been praying about it because I felt like a big part of why I was experiencing. It just was like, you know, a lack of like, I guess it's insecurity. It's just like a, you know, questioning myself, my instinct, my ability, things that I've never honestly felt before. I've always been able to walk into things pretty much blind and be like super fearless.
Starting point is 00:04:01 And I think I'm still showing up in that way, but something was just a bit different for the first time ever in my life. And I couldn't put a finger on why. I couldn't put a finger on why. I couldn't put a finger on what like initiated the feeling. You know, it just, I was all over the place trying to figure it out mentally. And for me, I'm one of them deep diving, like investigative people where all of the timeline and all of the facts happen. to make sense if I'm at the end of the story. If I'm at the end of the story and something does not make sense for me,
Starting point is 00:04:33 I am going to backtrack, investigate X questions, try to look from a third sense. And it's kind of difficult when you're doing it with yourself. But I'm in a season of me trying to be more accountable for what I can control in situations. I think that in center myself a bit and really having conversations with God, which is also funny too because I learned in this season that our conversations with God
Starting point is 00:04:59 don't always look like prayer. Sometimes it's literally just like meditation in actual like conversation and asking myself questions and then hearing him talk to me and show me different things. But in this season of my conversations with God, I've been really hearing him tell me, you know, that this is like such a season of preparation. So, you know, that helped me begin to remove. a lot of the like personal feeling I was having because I was experiencing things and you know not just not hitting the the home runs that I'm used to hitting all the time and you know I don't know
Starting point is 00:05:42 maybe it was you know also recognizing like the people pleasing part of it in it for me and in the appeasing people that comes with being like a nurturer and you know always giving to others but I should be given to myself um but I say all this to say that what I realized in this season was that in order for me to move anything new into my life and accelerate what is already happening because I feel like this last year, I mean, even since we've started the podcast, it's almost a year, life has been at like 200 miles per hour and I've, you know, just been getting up, getting dressed every day, bringing my makeup bag with me because I ain't got time to do it in the morning and just figuring it out on the fly.
Starting point is 00:06:24 but what I'm hearing God say to me in this season is just like even things are not going to stop that 200 miles per hour is about to feel like 250 then it'll feel like 300 then it'll feel like 300 then it feel like 350 then 400 but what I'm learning is something that I've never honestly mastered before is how to be very still steady and like solidly like planted like in my stillness and in my like you know, confidence in myself and what I'm doing, what I'm saying, and my work and my discipline. The discipline is the big thing. No matter how fast things are going around me or, like, in the current moment of what I'm feeling. I think coming from a newsroom and I don't know, just, I think on all aspects of my life, I've always just survived in chaos. And right now I'm
Starting point is 00:07:17 learning, God is teaching me how to not just survive in chaos, but to prepare to be accountable, to delegate to really understand discipline so that I'm not doing all of that in chaos. Chaos can be happening, but I'm creating my own like area of like solid foundation so that the chaos
Starting point is 00:07:39 never affects me. I'm in it, but I'm still. I'm unshakable. I'm unmovable in it. And I think that's going to be very important in my next season. And I don't know why exactly because I haven't gotten there yet.
Starting point is 00:07:49 But that's what I feel like is happening. So today we, we're doing the breakfast club this morning and I am so meticulous about trying to figure out what stories, what conversations we were having and the room is too. Like they want to get into all the good stuff, all the things
Starting point is 00:08:04 and we did not report on something today that I knew we should have reported on. I knew exactly how I wanted to cater to conversation, all of those things and I'm all in my head and we did not do the story. And I honestly I walked away from that very disappointed in myself
Starting point is 00:08:21 but not because we didn't do the story. not going every day and a home run day but because I'm like Lauren there's never been a season in your life even through these
Starting point is 00:08:30 changes of seasons because I'm admitting I'm in a season of transformation and I don't think that that's going to stop anytime soon but in any of these seasons
Starting point is 00:08:40 in your life you've always been able to trust yourself and your instinct you know when to pivot you know when to dig deeper you know when to hold back
Starting point is 00:08:48 you know when to hold your cards you know when to show your cards you know when to be vulnerable like you've always always known and you've also always known when you didn't know and you've been comfortable enough to say I don't know or comfortable enough to say I believe this and I'm a stand on it and it's very clear that that that is escaping you a bit and I'm showing you this to wake you up because that instinct that literally that's my gold that's my might as touch like as a journalist like
Starting point is 00:09:16 oh my god anybody will tell you anyone any storyteller any creative not even just journalist like any storyteller will tell you your instinct is literally that's the IP like that's what you have that's that's what creates and everything flows from so I feel like I finally have a clear sense of what I was experiencing and if you guys go back and listen to the last episodes for probably like the last like a week or two I've been daily describing to you guys this this really adamant sense of uncertainty and I couldn't put my finger on it I didn't understand what I was experiencing and today it was so clear. It was like so clear was like kind of scary.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Like literally. So I'm in a good space about it. I am, I'm not worried. I think, you know, now it's just a thing. It's execution at this point now. So yeah, that's where I'm at. I mean, y'all be all in my business.
Starting point is 00:10:14 But it's fine, lowrider family. Like, y'all are here with me on this journey and, you know, if you haven't visited my YouTube channel yet, it's Lauren the Rosa TV. I vlog there and I'm very just open about my journey everywhere that I am because I want to take y'all along the ride with me. I want for you guys
Starting point is 00:10:31 to feel like as this podcast grows, as my career grows, as our reach grows, as our ability to cover stories and the people we have on the podcast grows that you guys have grown with me. So let's get on into the latest now, talking about stories.
Starting point is 00:10:48 So I actually just sat through about a 35 to 40 minute long press conference. So Savannah Guthrie, who is an anchor on the Today Show, her mom has been missing since Saturday, January 31st at this point. She's an 84-year-old woman. We talked about this on the last episode. 84-year-old woman who was taken out of her home in the middle of the night, but they just gave us some more details.
Starting point is 00:11:17 There's been reporting about a ransom letter or two or three that have been circulating. And law enforcement, including FBI, were present in this press conference in Arizona. And what they told us was that there were multiple different ransom notes. The one specifically that was sent to TMZ, which TMZ actually just gave us some details on. It's so weird to talk about them. Like TMZ is like, I want to be like Harvey and Charles just from, you know. But yeah, so TMZ posted a video today where they talked about the ransom. letter. And they said in the letter, there were some specific things in that letter that
Starting point is 00:11:52 caught their eye because these things had not been released to the public yet. Now, the FBI does talk about this letter and they talk about how this was one of the, this was a letter that they actually presented to the family because of those same reasons, because of the details that were in the letter. Let's take a listen to FBI, talk about that ransom letter in those details. The ransom note that was distributed to the media did make a demand for 5 p.m. day and if a transfer wasn't made then I think a second demand was for next Monday we're not going to go beyond that but that was the ransom note the media receipt indicated what would happen if they didn't need that right we're not going to go into those
Starting point is 00:12:33 specifics thank you now what caught my attention here was they said that the details were about an Apple Watch and that the details were about a floodlight I mean there are multiple videos of the outside of Nancy Guthrie's home at this point where you can see floodlights, there was the video that showed blood on her front step. Police did confirm that after DNA testing that that is Nancy's blood on the step. But I say all that to say, even the Apple Watch conversation, things have been reported in the press about the Apple Watch, about, you know, her pacemaker not sinking to the Apple Watch. And she's in multiple photos with an Apple Watch. So one of the journalists in the press conference asked, like, what is the timeline of this
Starting point is 00:13:17 random letter? Because if those are the details that you guys are saying, kind of made you stop a bit, those things have been talked about more recently. So was this letter sent before those things were talked about? And they kind of answered the question, but kind of didn't. Let's take a listen. So to me, I feel like, you know, and I mean, I feel I know there are a lot of things that they can't talk about.
Starting point is 00:13:39 They kept pushing back a lot throughout this press conference. because they can't compromise their investigation. But they're taking everything serious at this point, as they should. And it's to the point where now, again, FBI was present. So FBI is involved. I know President Trump mentioned, you know, sending whoever and whatever resources needed. You know, they're completely at the Guthrie family's disposal. And, yeah, I mean, a lot of this press conference they spent just going down some of the reporting
Starting point is 00:14:12 that has been out there and debunking things. We mentioned on our last episode that a brother-in-law of Savannah Guthrie was cleared. He is not a suspect that that was just like a matter of protocol of them having conversations with any and everybody who would have been in contact with or in the presence of Nancy Guthrie, who was Savannah's mom, especially right up and, you know, right before her disappearance. Now, one of the things that they did do, they provided a very sharp timeline of the
Starting point is 00:14:42 day leading into Nancy's disappearance. So they say on Saturday, January 31st at 532 p.m., Nancy was at her family's home. So the reporting has been that Nancy went to dinner at her daughter's home, the sister of Savannah Guthrie. Police described this as like a game night, family dinner night. So she was there. And then at about around 9.48 p.m. on that same day, Nancy got dropped off at home by a family member. She did take an Uber over to her daughter's house and police said they've already spoken to the Uber driver. But again, they still have no suspects, but she was taken back home by family member, police confirmed. And they said that they were able to track what exact time she walked in her home in or around that time, at or around 9.48 p.m. They were able to track that
Starting point is 00:15:33 because her garage door system caught the time that the garage went up. So then on Sunday, 1st at 147 a.m. There was a doorbell camera at Nancy's home that police say was disconnected at that time. Now, there was reports that there were cameras destroyed and, you know, different things destroyed. And they say that as of right now, there's nothing that they can confirm on that. They don't know where that came from because they never gave that detail. But there was a doorbell camera that was disconnected.
Starting point is 00:16:03 On Sunday, January 1st, I'm sorry, on Sunday, February 1st at 212 a.m., police say that, that there was potentially something picked up on an additional camera in Nancy's home. But the issue with this camera is that she doesn't have a subscription for this camera. So there's no new video. It just keeps rerunning over itself. So they have an alert that something was picked up on a camera, potentially a person. But they're like, it could even even been an animal. They don't know because they have no image.
Starting point is 00:16:32 But they do have this with, you know, a tech team that is trying to see if there's a way that they can see or get anything. So they have not given up on this. Then they continue the timeline for Sunday, February 1st, and they say at 228 a.m. Nancy Gunthery's pacemaker app disconnected from her phone. And then at 11.56 a.m., so some hours later, Nancy's family checks on Nancy to discover her missing. And reporting around this was that Nancy never showed up to a church service that she normally shows up to, and I guess she's very active in because they noticed that she was not there.
Starting point is 00:17:06 So then on Sunday, you know, February 1st, same day still, later that day at 12.03 p.m. The family called 911 and then, you know, you just kind of from there, we watched all of the media and all the news and everything explode. Now, just based off this timeline, the kidnapper, the suspect, however you want to label this person who potentially abducted Nancy Guthrie would have been at her home for about 45 minutes and whatever went down happened within that time. Now, police also say because that they have no sign of life from her,
Starting point is 00:17:47 Nancy Guthrie, the mother, Savannah Guthrie, at this time. And the reason why they had to answer that question is because last night, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings posted a video. It's the craziest thing ever, y'all. Like, it's literally like I'm watching a movie. They posted a video to Savannah's Instagram. And the video is an emotional plea. to just like humanize their mom
Starting point is 00:18:09 and to just let whoever has her know like whatever you guys need, we're ready to talk because there were things demanded in the ransom letter a million dollars and like Bitcoin and they're like we're ready to talk. Let's take a listen to that video. Our mom is our heart and our home. She is 84 years old.
Starting point is 00:18:31 Her health, her heart is fragile. She lives in constant. pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive. She needs it not to suffer. We too have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media. As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us. Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman. You are God's precious daughter, Nancy.
Starting point is 00:19:47 We believe and know that even in this valley, he is with you. Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere. We will not rest. Your children will not rest until we are together again. We speak to you every moment and we pray without ceasing and we rejoice in advance for the day that we hold you in our arms again. We love you, Mom. We love you, Mom.
Starting point is 00:20:23 Stay strong. We love you. We love you. Now, at this point, again, police say they have no suspect whatsoever. I did see that the FBI is now offering a $50,000 reward for any information leading to Nancy Guthrie's recovery or finding. The White House actually tweeted this out. So the White House tweeted, the search for Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, is ongoing and authorities are requesting assistance from the public. Anyone with information is urged to contact 911.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Our prayers are going to the Guthrie family as we hope for a safer turn home for Nancy. And then the White House retweeted that same episode I just read with mention of that $50,000 reward. So I'll keep you guys posted there. There will definitely be more coming up in that report. Now moving on over into the latest, it's still kind of in the same vein of what we were just talking about, sadly enough. Oh, I just actually got an email from the Milton, the city of Milton Police Department down in Georgia. Because little John's son, his name is Nathan, he's a DJ, he's 28 years old. He was reported missing yesterday.
Starting point is 00:21:40 He was reported missing. It was around 6 a.m. that he was reported missing from his home. The report said that he had left his home on foot, that he had no cell phone, that he was disoriented, it may be in need of help. They made it very clear that he is not a threat at all. But it just came out of nowhere. And I reached out to Little John's team who said, you know, at this time, they were just asking for privacy and for anyone with information to contact the Milton, Georgia Police Department. So I've been reached out to the police department just trying to get any information I can. because there is not much out there whatsoever.
Starting point is 00:22:19 And here is what they just emailed back. Here is the most recent statement from the Milton Police Department regarding Nathan Smith. Currently, there are no new developments regarding the whereabouts of Nathan Smith. He remains missing, and this continues to be an active investigation by the Milton Police Department. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to please contact the Milton Police Department non-emergency dispatch line
Starting point is 00:22:41 at 678-297-6300 pressing option one any information no matter how small may assist in safely locating this individual and then you know they're thanking people for their assistance but I've been doing some digging and I because I wanted to kind of get a better grasp of who little John's son was outside of the justice story because to be honest I knew he had kids but I didn't know his son personally. So I found Nathan's Instagram and I just spent some time on there today. Honestly, just trying to get a feel for what he was into, who he was hanging around, who are his friends, like to see if anything had been posted. You know, within the last couple hours.
Starting point is 00:23:27 And, man, like I, to me, his Instagram just gives regular kid who, you know, also loves music, also loves the entertainment business, obviously. and grew up around the pioneers of hip hop and was very well aware of, you know, just the life that he was able to live and the people he was able to learn from. One of his most recent post was actually from Jingle Ball, which is the power, which is the 96.1 station in Atlanta, which is a sister station to the breakfast club. It was a huge, huge concert that they did for the holiday where little John was like the stable act. So it was Little John and friends, and he bought out everybody. It was such a great night. So Nathan took pictures with Bow Wow, and he posted, you know, how one of his first albums that Baowal ever bought him was Bow Wow. Then he posts a video and there's like, Bow Wow, there's Jameen Dupree.
Starting point is 00:24:30 You have his dad, Little John, in the video. There's just so many, Brian Michael Cox, there's just so many legends in this video. it's insane. So I don't, you know, I'm trying to do as much as I can to figure out how one thing led to another here. But of course, cops are not saying much. Little John has not said anything at all. So all we have is all we have right now, which is, you know, what I've been able to present you guys with. But this is definitely one of those situations where story still developing.
Starting point is 00:25:05 There's still a lot of unanswered questions. here. So if and when I can get an answer, you know I'll bring it right back to you guys here at the latest. I'm Lauren LaRosa. This has been another episode of the latest with Lauren the Rosa. And I tell you guys every single episode how much I appreciate y'all. I mean, y'all could be anywhere with anybody discussing all of these things, but y'all choose me right here with me, my low riders. I appreciate y'all for that. And I will catch you in my next episode. This is an I-Heart podcast, guaranteed human.
