Starting point is 00:00:00 Had enough of this country? Ever dreamt about starting your own? I planted the flag. This is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete. Or maybe not. No country willingly gives up their territory. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:00:16 What is that? Bullets. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. We need help! That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey guys, I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast
Starting point is 00:00:46 Post Run High is all about. It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together. Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I can't believe you guys are the best, kid.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Collectively known as Breakfast Club, bitches. Good morning, Angela Yee. Good morning, DJ Envy. Charlamagne Tha God. Peace to the planet. It's Friday. Yes, it's Friday. Yeah, I'm not even going to sit here and ascribe to sound excited.
Starting point is 00:02:39 I feel like, I don't know. I feel weird, right? I feel weird because on one hand, I'm extremely happy about Jay Electronica and Jay-Z's project, A Written Testimony. But then on the other hand, I really, really, really am leaning into the uncertainty of this whole coronavirus thing and I really don't know what's going to happen. You think about where we were a week
Starting point is 00:02:58 ago, where we are now, where we're going to be at this time next week. Now you're right. I want to shout out to my wife. I know she's sleeping, but she was ready about, I would say maybe about a month ago. She started predicting this. It was like, we got to start getting stuff now. And I started, I was joking her.
Starting point is 00:03:14 I Rudy Gobert her. Gobert her. I was laughing at her. Yeah, I read it. Whatever. Shut up. You know, me and the kids were laughing, but she was ready. She went out there.
Starting point is 00:03:23 She got water. She got toilet tissue. She got out there. She got water. She got toilet tissue. She got toilet paper. She got paper towels. She got canned goods, frozen goods. She got charcoal just in case that, you know, they turn the gas and power off. She's prepared. Yes, she is prepared.
Starting point is 00:03:38 I mean, that's why you got to have a queen at home. Absolutely. Because my wife went and did the same exact thing yesterday. You know what I'm saying? Got tons and tons and tons of food and perishable canned goods and items and all kind of good stuff. Non-perishable? I don't freaking know. Whatever. That's why I'm not
Starting point is 00:03:53 the wife. And my pops. And you gotta respect older people, right? Respect to my pops, man. I love my mom and my dad. So I called my dad and my pops. I said, yo, you got water? I said, you good? You want me to bring you a case of water? He's like, no, I'm good. I said, well, how many cases of water you got? He said, I got one. I said, well, what do you need if we need more than that?
Starting point is 00:04:09 He said, well, what I used to do when I was a kid is you pour water from the faucet and you boiled it. I said, well, what about toilet tissue? He said, no, I'm good. I said, what are you going to do? He said, well, the worst could have been the worst. I got newspaper. He said, back in the day, if you needed it, you would wet the newspaper and wipe your
Starting point is 00:04:24 ass. He said, that's what you got to do. He said, page six is just if you needed it, you would wet the newspaper and wipe your ass. He said that's what you got to do. He said page six is just in between your ass, whatever. That man grew up in a different era. Nothing wrong with that. Well, I'm in Detroit. I'm in Detroit right now. I was at Whole Foods last night getting a whole bunch of different things.
Starting point is 00:04:36 It wasn't that bad out here. Oh, it's crazy out here. No, it's crazy. It's crazy. I know New York is crazy, but in Detroit I was at Whole Foods. No line at all. It was stocked. Everything was there.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Plenty of water. Plenty of everything. My wife had to go to like three different grocery stores yesterday in order to properly get everything that, you know. We can't even say what we think we need. We don't know. We don't know what's going to happen. Like, I'm seriously. Think about where you were at this time last week.
Starting point is 00:05:02 And then think about where we could possibly be at this time next week. No, it could be really, really disgusting. But, you know, just try to be prepared. I went to the gun store. I got some ammo. You definitely got to get ammo.
Starting point is 00:05:15 I got some ammo. I got dog food, so me and the dog will be all right. You know, he'll be good. America's just not ready for... Just got to be prepared
Starting point is 00:05:22 for whatever. Yeah, America's just not ready for this kind of pandemic at all. But I'm still gonna try to live my life as much as possible, though. Grossly unprepared. Yeah. Well, everything I was supposed to do got cancelled. We had a concert that was gonna be
Starting point is 00:05:36 out here that's cancelled. I had a shopping spree. When a shopping spree somebody won $3,000 to go to the mall out here to go on a shopping spree. They shouldn't spend that right now. Yeah, that's canceled right now. So, yeah, everything. Shout out to my girl, Cash Doll. She was kicking off her concert tour.
Starting point is 00:05:52 That's all getting postponed right now. So everybody has to, I guess, not be concerned so much about the money that we all were anticipating to make, but just safety. You ain't been worried about your life and your health. I mean, because, you know, somebody sent me something yesterday and they said this was all, the pandemic planning was focused on a flu variant, not a novel virus. And humans have no immunity,
Starting point is 00:06:13 you know, vaccine or therapeutics to this virus. So what are you supposed to do? And the test, they got an incredibly limited testing ability. So it's just like, what are you supposed to do?
Starting point is 00:06:24 There's probably way more cases than being reported right now in America. What are you supposed to do? And I do have a lot of sympathy for people who get hourly wages and get paid, you know, when they go to work and what plans are in place to make sure that people can actually still have money and people have bills to pay and things to take care of. So that is something that I'm sure is a concern because we don't know how long this will go on.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Yeah, and as wild as it may sound, money don't matter right now. Money means nothing right now. Money don't matter because everybody is in the same exact boat. I was going to say, money means nothing. Cars, jewelry, all that means nothing right now. Yeah, but for people who are living check to check, that have bills to pay, that are concerned, they have to put some type of plan into place
Starting point is 00:07:02 for people who can't go to work but still have rent to pay yeah but they'll have to put food on the table i'm hearing from people that are very concerned about their everybody's very concerned but nobody's going to be able to pay rent nobody's going to be able to pay car notes the government's going to have to help people out that's what i'm saying they got to figure that out it's going to be you can't care i mean you know i have a bunch of properties where i have tenants if they can't pay i can't say get out. No, I have to understand. There's nothing I can do.
Starting point is 00:07:27 And the ultimate plan is really just stay healthy. Keep your kids as healthy as possible. That's right. Because, you know, I would much rather have to deal with the money problems than have to deal with sick kids and our bad health. That's it. Straight up. All right. Well, let's get the show cracking.
Starting point is 00:07:43 Angela Bassett will be joining us this morning. We'll kick it with the queen in a little bit. I love being in her presence. That'll make me feel better. And front page news, what are we talking about? You know what we're talking about. Okay, coronavirus, coronavirus, coronavirus. And congratulations to Jay Electronica.
Starting point is 00:07:58 He released his debut album last night at midnight. Yes, he was supposed to have three different listening sessions, but they all got canceled because of coronavirus. Yeah, he did one in L.A. Well, this is Ghost of Soldier Slim. He didn't do it in L.A.? I saw him do it last night online. It wasn't what it was supposed to be.
Starting point is 00:08:17 Oh, yeah, but he had a bunch of people in there. He had a little listening session. He's still there now. If somebody would have sneezed in there last night, everybody would have hit the floor like a gunshot went off. My goodness. Well, here's the Ghost of Soldiers Slim, Jay Electronica, Jay-Z. It's the Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Good morning. I'm going to be honest with you. I didn't know if Jay Electronica could meet my expectations, but I really, really thoroughly enjoyed this goddamn album. And y'all didn't even think it was really coming out today. I definitely didn't. And I'm going to tell you something. I love the title of Written Testimony but you know, mere mortals
Starting point is 00:08:47 sit on the throne. Black gods sit on the wheel. They should have called it Watch the Wheel, God damn it. But still, great project. Drop on the Clues bombs
Starting point is 00:08:53 for God damn it. The electronic is dope. And by the way, that song you just heard, Jay Electronica also produced that. So he produced, I think, five songs on this album.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Now that's my only, if I had one of those nitpicky hip-hop head critique, it would be one thing. What? I wish Just Blaze, I just feel like Jay-Z and Jay Electronica, there should have been some Just Blaze production on there, right? I just feel like that.
Starting point is 00:09:14 I mean, you know. That one Swizz did, I think Swizz did. That's hard. That's hard? I mean, listen, the album is a great project. A phenomenal body of work. The album is dope. I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:09:23 I had to wear both my God body chains this morning. I had to put on my honorable Elijah Muhammad piece and my Malcolm X piece this morning. Okay. That's how I'm feeling. All right. Well, let's get in some front page news. Where we start, Wee Yee? Well, coronavirus, the latest numbers, the coronavirus has infected more than 132,500 people,
Starting point is 00:09:43 killed nearly 5, thousand people globally. Now, in the United States, there are five U.S. states that are closing all schools over fears of coronavirus. Those states are Maryland, Ohio, Kentucky, New Mexico and Michigan. And then there are cities also like San Francisco, Denver, Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Houston, Seattle, New Rochelle. They're all closing schools as well. So in South Korea, they're saying coronavirus cases are continuing to slow down in china coronavirus case number numbers and death toll has continued to fall so they've had some recoveries as well and a lot of people are recovering from it but
Starting point is 00:10:16 it is still something that we want to make sure we're cautious about the canadian prime minister's wife has tested positive for coronavirus a diplom diplomat at the U.N. has also tested positive, as well as the CIA. They've identified a suspected case in its workforce in Washington. And a Brazilian who met Donald Trump has the virus. Donald Trump still says he has no plans to get tested. And the NBA, Donovan Mitchell, also has coronavirus. He is the second Utah Jazz player to test positive as well. And Rudy Gobert, by the way, has apologized for his actions from the Utah Jazz.
Starting point is 00:10:48 He said, I want to thank everyone for outpouring of concern and support over the last 24 hours. I have gone through so many emotions since learning of my diagnosis, mostly fear, anxiety and embarrassment. The first and most important thing is that I would like to publicly apologize to the people that I may have endangered. At the time, I had no idea I was even infected. Now, Charles Barkley has announced that he is self-quarantining while he is awaiting for his coronavirus test results. And Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have shared an update after they have revealed that they have coronavirus. They said they want to thank everybody down under. They were in Australia who are taking such good care of us.
Starting point is 00:11:24 They said we are in isolation, so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one day at a time. And there are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other. Yeah, I mean, there's way more cases than are being reported. They have a limited ability to test. So there's just way more cases than being reported. And I don limited ability to test, so there are way more cases than being reported, and I don't think people know how it spreads either.
Starting point is 00:11:47 I don't think people know if it's droplets, people focusing on surgical masks and environmental cleanup, that's good, but if it's airborne, people need respirators and isolation and just staying out the way. Yeah, staying out the way is the most important thing, but that's your front page news. Get it off your chest, 800-585-1051 that's your front page news. Get it off your chest.
Starting point is 00:12:05 800-585-1051. I know you guys probably got a lot on your chest. Well, call us up. Let's talk about it. Yeah, we here to vent. Use us to vent while you can, because I don't give a damn. I ain't coming next week. If it continues like this, I won't be here next week, goddammit. Ain't enough Lysol and hand sanitizer in the world. Alright, it's The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Come on in. The Breakfast Club. Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired? Depressed? All right, it's The Breakfast Club. Come on in. The Breakfast Club. 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Kaperburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. The Waikana tried my country. My forefathers did that themselves.
Starting point is 00:12:58 What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets. We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's what my podcast, Post Run run high is all about. It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together. You know that rush of endorphins you feel after a great workout? Well, that's when the real magic happens. So if you love hearing real inspiring stories from the people you know, follow, and admire, join me every week for Post Run High. It's where we take the conversation beyond the run and get into the heart of it all.
Starting point is 00:14:15 It's lighthearted, pretty crazy, and very fun. Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself, and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, it was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments.
Starting point is 00:15:04 Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Wake up, wake up. Wake your ass up. This is your time to get it off your chest. Whether you're mad or blessed, we want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club. Hello, who's this? This is Derek.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Hey, Derek, get it off your chest, bro. I'm just wondering why the world is panicking over a virus and no one is promoting our own health, our own keeping our bodies healthy. I mean, I think people are. And we're going out buying paper towel and toilet tissue and nobody is talking about
Starting point is 00:15:57 keeping your immune system healthy. Eat fruits and vegetables and juice. That's all I've been hearing, King. We've been talking about that yesterday. We were saying, bye, get a lot of vitamin C, make sure you get a lot of fruits and vegetables and juice. That's all I've been hearing, King. We've been talking about that yesterday. We were saying, bye, get a lot of vitamin C, make sure you get a lot of fruits, vegetables, all of that. Are juice bars open? Yeah, zinc. We talk about getting zinc, vitamin C.
Starting point is 00:16:13 I've heard no one talking about that. And I'm sitting here watching the news, and I'm watching a grocery line go by with 40 people in it, and they're standing next to the fruit section. Nothing's missing. All I've been hearing is, you know, people being told to like wash their hands, make sure
Starting point is 00:16:30 that, you know, they got the proper vitamin C. I don't know. Maybe you're listening to the wrong things. I don't know what to tell you, bro. Yeah, I mean, I've been talking about it all week that my wife, we got enough vitamin C to ask me two years. I watch CNN news and local news and not one person. And I think also when they tell you to do things like treat it like it's the flu,
Starting point is 00:16:47 you know, I think we know how to treat the flu with a lot of vitamin C and stuff, right? So it's kind of the same thing, I would think. Hello, who's this? Hey, it's Antonio. Antonio, what up? Get it off your chest, bro. Yeah, so I'm here in Atlanta. And I was just going to say, you know, I kind of agree with Charlamagne pretty much saying that ultimately this virus is really nothing we can kind of do. I mean, it's a pretty crowded city.
Starting point is 00:17:14 It's kind of hard to stay away from people. Yeah. And I guess I think the best thing, I mean, I don't know if everybody, you know, believes in God and everything. But, you know, I just pray and hope that everybody gets healed. Absolutely, brother. Thank you for calling. Hello, who's this? Good morning.
Starting point is 00:17:31 This is Angel Haas, my radio family. Good morning. Your radio family doing well? How are you? I'm doing well. I was calling about the virus as well. I work in a hospital, and I really don't think it comes from no washing no hands because we wash our hands 20,000 times a day.
Starting point is 00:17:47 And we have over, just me working there at night, we have over, I know, 300 people that come in there thinking that they have this virus. Now, I will admit, everybody that calls me, do anything, they're like, I got the virus, I think I got the virus. No, you don't, and don't claim it. Everything that. I think I got the virus. No, you don't and don't claim it. Everything that you feel. I got the virus. No, you don't. So, I want people to stop thinking that everything, every cough, every sneeze
Starting point is 00:18:12 is the virus. That is not true. But don't we gotta be better safe than sorry, though? Don't we gotta at least see? You do, but if you think about it, before now, how many times did you wash your hands and protect yourself from washing your hands? All the time. We use it all the time. So, I really think it's from people breathing on you just like hepatitis you know you don't if you were a customer service that's the most dangerous job at this point right now
Starting point is 00:18:34 because you come in contact with so many people you think people tell you where they've been exactly so they're not gonna be monitored oh i went on a cruise i went here i went there you just need to really, really protect yourself. Step back when you're talking to people. I mean, people think it's funny like, oh, don't shake my hand. It's not funny. It's really not. This is becoming a deadly epidemic right now. It's not funny.
Starting point is 00:18:56 I haven't shook hands all week and I think that we all need to plan our own little isolation strategies. Somebody was saying stay six feet away from people because she's absolutely right. We do not know how it spreads. If it's droplets, then focus on the surgical mask and environmental cleanup.
Starting point is 00:19:10 If it's airborne, we need respirators and complete isolation. Complete isolation. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051 if you need to vent. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:19:26 This is your time to get it off your chest, whether you're mad or blessed. You better have the same energy. We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club. Hello, who's this? Dark Prince. What's good, DJ Envy? Dark Prince, what up? Get it off your chest.
Starting point is 00:19:38 Man, we can all agree it's been a horrible year so far. Yes. But God damn it, we finally got the jay electronica album and no less on every track yeah i'm not gonna lie i felt like i felt like and i just felt like this i felt like this was the cure for the coronavirus when i started listening i was like wow but i know it's not but that's how i just felt honestly it felt like my depression and i have to say this publicly because I have to perform too. Let's not forget, Hov did Jay Electronica on almost every track.
Starting point is 00:20:10 That's even more surprising. Yeah, Hov did. I didn't want to have this conversation so early. For what? I'm sorry. I couldn't wait, man. Hov did kind of chip up Jay Electronica on every track. Now, when I heard it when Jay was playing it over IG Live, my thought was, man, Jay-Z is really bodying Jay Electronica on every song.
Starting point is 00:20:31 I don't agree with that. Well, because that's your friend. But when you listen to it, it's closer than it seemed when you first heard it. But no, Jay-Z is phenomenal on this album. It's definitely not because that's my friend. It's because I think Jay Electronica is very skilled. And let's be clear,
Starting point is 00:20:50 Jay Electronica went out there to get Jay-Z on one song, and that was it. He went to L.A. for that, and then they ended up doing this whole entire collaboration because Jay-Z was so inspired. Yeah, Jay-Z was inspired, you can tell, because he watched Jay-Z on every record. Hello, who's this?
Starting point is 00:21:04 Hi, it's Kourtney. Kourtney, what up? Get it off your chest. I just wanted to talk about the coronavirus. I'm in medical school in Buffalo, New York. Luckily, we don't have any patients at the moment. I know you guys have a lot, but it's just crazy. Like, we still have to go to work. Everything should still go in here, and I don't know.
Starting point is 00:21:23 I think it really sucks that a lot of health professionals and government officials just don't know how bad it's going to get. So I guess that's the scary part. But I also think this is a lot of massive Syria. Nah, I don't think so. I thought so at first, but nah, I don't think so. I think that it's all warranted,
Starting point is 00:21:40 especially when you see what's going on in Italy. You know, America, we're not ready for that. We're not ready for this type of pandemic. And I also think that being that they hesitated so early on and, you know, they didn't do the proper containment, I think community spread is way higher than people think. Hello, who's this?
Starting point is 00:21:58 Hi, good morning. It's Gina. Hey, Gina, get it off your chest. Okay, so I called yesterday about the kids in school. I just have a little update. I have a kid in junior high and high school. You call the attendance teacher, and it's an excused absence. You know what? I know that's how it works.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Gina, at this point, I don't even care. I pulled all my kids. I got a senior. I got a freshman in high school. I got a first grader, kindergarten, preschooler. My daughter was a little upset. I told my daughter she could wear her dress and we could have a prom in the crib. I said, she got three different
Starting point is 00:22:36 guys she could dance with. She could dance with me, Logan, and Jackson. I said, we're going to have a graduation ceremony at the house. She could walk down the stairs. I'll play the music. We'll throw confetti. Like, it is what it is. We're going to make the best of this. And we're going to put it
Starting point is 00:22:49 all on YouTube so y'all can see. Y'all can be part of it. But my daughter's going to have her prom and her graduation ceremony at the crib. I would definitely enjoy that.
Starting point is 00:22:57 God bless you guys. And I just hope that everybody stays safe and healthy. And I just hope that maybe that little info helps you guys out a little bit. You know, tell
Starting point is 00:23:05 your wives to go to school, and then, you know. Yeah, it's funny when you become your parents, right? Because, like, you know, I find myself saying things my daddy would say. Like, I told my daughter yesterday, she's in sixth grade, I'm like, you're not going to school tomorrow. You know, we might have to be out a month. And she was like, what if I get left back? I said, you'd rather get left
Starting point is 00:23:21 back or die? You'd rather die or get left back? Like, that's the type of stuff your parents, my dad used to say to me. But it's the truth I said, you'd rather get left back or die? You'd rather die or get left back? Like, that's the type of stuff your parents, my dad used to say to me. What is the truth? Like, you'd rather get left back or die? Goodness gracious. I would be scorned, Dad. The funny thing was, when you look at an 11-year-old weighing her options. She's like, um, which one?
Starting point is 00:23:39 I really don't want to get left back, but I don't want to die, Dad. It's a wild time, bro. Let me think about this, Dad. I'll let you know tomorrow. That's why I'm taking my ass home as soon as possible. I can't wait to get left back, bud. I don't want to die, dad. It's a wild time, bro. Let me think about this, dad. I'll let you know tomorrow. That's why I'm taking my ass home as soon as possible. I can't wait to get home and just bunker down. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051.
Starting point is 00:23:54 If you need to vent, you can hit us up. Evie, we got rumors on the way? Yes, we are going to be talking about, of course, this Jay Electronica album that's out. Also, Mark Cuban, he has a plan in place, and that is going to help out everybody who works for him all right we'll get into that next keep it locked it's the breakfast club good morning the breakfast club is your country falling apart feeling tired depressed a little bit revolutionary consider this start your own country i planted the flag i just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy.
Starting point is 00:24:27 There's 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. Why can't I create my own country? My forefathers did that themselves.
Starting point is 00:24:45 What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warheads. Oh my god. What is that? Bullets. Bullets. We need help!
Starting point is 00:24:59 We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey guys, I'm Kate Max. Starting point is 00:25:33 chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together. You know that rush of endorphins you feel after a great workout? Well, that's when the real magic happens. So if you love hearing real, inspiring stories from the people you know, follow, and admire, join me every week for Post Run High. Starting point is 00:26:20 but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves, for self-preservation and protection. It was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself.
Starting point is 00:26:58 It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:27:16 Morning, everybody. It's DJ MV, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club. Happy Friday. Now let's get to the rumors. Let's talk more Cuban. I reached out to... Okay. Okay. What's going on?
Starting point is 00:27:28 Rumor Report. Rumor Report. This is The Rumor Report with Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club. Well, Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks team, has actually made sure he put a plan in place to pay hourly workers
Starting point is 00:27:45 because of the stoppage of everything that's happening due to coronavirus. Here is what Mark Cuban had to say. I reached out to the folks at the arena and our folks at the Mavs to find out what it would cost to financially support people who aren't going to be able to come to work. They get paid by the hour, and this is their source of income and so we'll do some things there we may ask them to go do some volunteer work in exchange but you know we've already started the process of having a program in place and i don't have any details to give but it's certainly something that's important
Starting point is 00:28:19 to me i mean he's worth four billion dollars he can do that yeah you got to do that man you got to have some empathy for people in a situation like this. America wasn't ready for this type of pandemic. So you got to have some empathy if you're a CEO like that. Absolutely. All right.
Starting point is 00:28:32 So I am glad that he's doing it. Like I said earlier, you know, our concern is also for people who have hourly wages or get paid to come into work. And right now they're concerned not just about coronavirus and their families,
Starting point is 00:28:43 but also when this is over, if I don't work for two weeks, a month, two months, three just about coronavirus and their families, but also when this is over. If I don't work for two weeks, a month, two months, three months, who knows how long? How will I take care of myself and my family? I wonder if Dolan will do that for the people at the garden. Hell no. I'm just joking, shall we? I wonder if Revolt will do that. All right, now let's hear from Jay Electronica.
Starting point is 00:28:59 They need to use the garden as a quarantine facility. It ain't good for nothing else. Especially for a basketball team. Jay LaTronica's album, his debut album, is finally out after signing 10 years ago to Roc Nation. And people are really excited about it. Now, let's talk about this because there's 10 songs on the album. It's about 40 minutes.
Starting point is 00:29:17 He was supposed to have three different listening sessions yesterday. They all got canceled due to coronavirus. I was supposed to DJ the one in New York. Yeah, New York. I was supposed to DJ. Yeah, you were supposed to do the one in New York, but that didn't end up happening, unfortunately. But what did happen was people got really excited for the
Starting point is 00:29:31 album. So let's talk about some things because it does also feature Jay-Z throughout. And here is Flux Capacitor, where Jay-Z addresses the NFL quote, sellout issue. might not be coyotes. Visions of sugar plums for all of the boys and goyotes. Look, why would I sell out of my ready wrist? Don't make no sense. Got more money than Goodell. A whole NFL bench. Didn't want Hannah like Odell.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Handcuffed to a gel. I would've stayed on the sidelines and make them to tackle the chip themselves. You backstabbers gonna turn me back to the OJ. He's not who you wanna see. He's not as sweet as the OJ. Yeah. Body that. You ain't caught a shot. A little scray. Now, Jay Electronica on Ezekiel's Will,
Starting point is 00:30:26 he talks about how people were doubting him and doubting that this album would ever come out. They say it was gonna never happen, but I survived Neverland like the Jacksons. You never swallow slanderous lies for the devil's satisfaction. I still got my glitter gloves. I still got my glitter socks. Now I'm moonwalking on your couch with many zippers on my jacket.
Starting point is 00:30:47 J-Cirque de Soleil. I started on Tatooine, but now I'm way out of the daigle. Master Force made my saber. I'm in the light now. It's the hour of chaos. The black steel is on me right now. Some ask me, J-Man, why come for so many years you've been exempt? Cause familiarity don't breed gratitude, just contempt.
Starting point is 00:31:09 The price of sanity is too damn high, just like the rent. That's JLX's best verse on the album to me. Ezekiel's Will. I wish the album was named Watch the Will, by the way, because mere mortals sit on thrones, black gods sit on the will. Drop one of Clues Bond for JLX and Hov, goddammit. J-Luck definitely killed that album. Ionds for JLX and Hov, god damn it. JLX definitely killed that album and I've known JLX for a long
Starting point is 00:31:28 time and him coming around just being a good person to hear him finally put this album out, man, I'm happy for him, man. I think it's a really dope project. Very happy for him. I think it's a really dope project but keep in mind they're both talking my language on this album. A lot of NOI, Farrakhan, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad talk, okay? High levels of knowledge yourself, so I'm very, very biased
Starting point is 00:31:44 but when I step back as a 41-year-old hip-hop head, just sonically, I love the project. The only thing I'm disappointed by is the fact I don't hear no Just Blaze production. I mean, Just Blaze production would have been nice,
Starting point is 00:31:53 but the production's still dope on its own. Yeah, but I would just expect Hov and Jay Elect to have Just Blaze production because they've had really big records with Just Blaze. Yeah. Well, Jay Electronica produced
Starting point is 00:32:03 like half the album himself, so I know people are going to be hitting him up for production, but one thing he said was his beats, he just, like, makes stuff that he wants to rhyme on. Who the hell would sit around and wait for a Jay Electronica beat?
Starting point is 00:32:14 You get that beat 10 years later. All right, it'll be dope. He'll be fine when you get it, but it'll be a decade later. Now, another album that came out was Blueface. He has released his Find the Beat album.
Starting point is 00:32:24 That's a hard segue. Well, I'm talking about new music that's out. You know, He has released his Find the Beat album. That's a hard segment. Well, I'm talking about new music that's out. You know, we go all over the place here. Gunna, Lil Baby, Polo G, DaBaby, Amber J, Annalie Chapa, Stunner for Vegas, Jeremiah, YBN, Amir, all featured on the album. So here is some Blue Face's new project
Starting point is 00:32:40 featuring DaBaby, Obama. Whoa. featuring the baby Obama. You're free when the because you're not important. I'm the prettiest chocolate. That's a lie. Nessie tried to get me indoors. Everybody want to talk, but I don't got the time. I'm going to have to give an appointment. If you don't set appointments and pop up. Free my big cousin, Dotsman. He locked up. Not a bad record.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Salute to the baby. But Alexa, play Ghost of Soldier Slim by Jay Electronica and Jay-Z, please. Okay. Alexa, play the never-ending story by Jay Electronica and Jay-Z, please. Jesus Christ. All right. Little Uzi Vert also has revealed the cover and track list for his Lil Uzi Vert
Starting point is 00:33:28 vs. The World sequel. That's going to be out at 8 a.m. this morning, so a lot of new music that we can all be listening to. Didn't he just put out on my last week? He sure did,
Starting point is 00:33:36 and now there's another one. I wouldn't mind seeing Jay Electronica do the same thing. When you keep people waiting like that, no. Let me digest this first. Let me live with this. Then give me a week. Lil Uzi gave us. Let me live with this. Give me a week.
Starting point is 00:33:45 Lose the game with a week? Nah, I need longer than a week. I'll take another 10 songs from Jay Elect next week. Nah, I need to live with this for a little bit. Give me some time with this. Let me digest.
Starting point is 00:33:56 Let me hear every word because, you know, there's things that you miss in the first and second. Listen, let me digest this a little more. I love when Jay says no civilization is conquered
Starting point is 00:34:03 from the outside until they destroy themselves from within. Kind of feel like we're at right now. Now, Lil Wayne has announced his Vegas, Dre's residency, and that's going to start this Saturday. I wonder if that's still going on and what's happening in Vegas because I know a lot of things are getting canceled, but he is supposed to be at Dre's nightclub this Saturday
Starting point is 00:34:21 as part of his residency. I don't know what's going on. They said the wind canceled everything, so I don't. Yeah, it's going to be a tough one. I don't know what's going on. They said the wind canceled everything, so I don't... It's going to be a tough one. I don't know. I mean, I've seen people party last night. There's still things going on tonight. I don't know. I don't think... Can people travel to Vegas?
Starting point is 00:34:36 Will you get on a flight to go to Vegas? I don't know. They got, like, free Corona parties. That's what you need to do this weekend. If you're going to have the club open, you got to give away free Coronas. Corona should be giving out sponsorships all throughout the weekend. Corona beer should be giving out sponsorships throughout the weekend to every club. Free Corona nights.
Starting point is 00:34:54 Free Corona before 11. You don't think so? No. Oh. Maybe give out masks and gloves and hazmat suits. Maybe that. Maybe a hazmat party. But I don't know about the whole Corona thing.
Starting point is 00:35:04 You got to be a sick individual to be in the club this weekend. Angela Yee, and that is your rumor report. No, literally, you got to be a sick individual to be in the club this weekend because there's no other reason you would be out other than that you feel like this is it for you. Maybe that's the case. Maybe this wasn't. Maybe this wasn't. See, you played.
Starting point is 00:35:21 You played. I really was coughing. I'm out of here. I'm out of here, man. All right, man, That is your rumor report. Front page news next year. What are we talking about? Yes, we'll give you the story of a woman who has survived coronavirus, and she's going
Starting point is 00:35:31 to talk about her early symptoms and what she did. That's what I want to hear. All right. We'll get into that next. Keep it locked. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Because the effects are different doesn't mean that the impact won't be the same.
Starting point is 00:35:40 This guy's crazy. We're having a debate in the studio about the bubonic plague versus coronavirus and I'm telling our white cameraman, Stephen, that you're comparing something in the beginning stages to something that you saw all the way through
Starting point is 00:35:52 and he's telling me that, oh, so you're not getting lumps on your face. I know. You're not getting lumps on your face. And I'm like, yo, you can't, you know,
Starting point is 00:36:00 just because... Does that sound like... Yes, that's what you sound like. Trust me. Trust me. Trust me, you peasants. Don't touch me, man. Hold on, let me put this on.
Starting point is 00:36:11 I got to spray some of this. America need a humbling. Let's start with Steve. All right, well, let's get some front page news, G. America need a humbling, bro. Yes, let's talk about the NBA. As you know, everything is shut down right now. Here is Adam Silver talking about moving forward.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Of course it's possible. I mean, I just don't know more at this point. One of the things we want to do during this hiatus, and this is one of the things I had a meeting with our general managers and team presidents late this afternoon by conference call to talk about how are we going to use this time decisions as to whether the players will stay in market? Will they be rejoining their families? What's the best way to keep them safe? What's the best way to keep them in shape? You know, all those things are still on the table because this has happened so quickly. Yeah, when he said best way to keep them in shape, he was talking about Zion Williamson. Zion Williamson a month off, bro.
Starting point is 00:37:02 He was just getting in good playing shape. He's going to get big again. All right, and Charles Barkley, he has gotten tested for coronavirus, and he is self-quarantining. Here's what he said. I spent early part of the week in New York City. When I got to Atlanta yesterday, I wasn't feeling well. I talked to a couple doctors, and they told me to self-quarantine. So I started yesterday.
Starting point is 00:37:22 This is my second day. I haven't been feeling great and they didn't want me to take any chances. So they told me to quarantine myself for 48 hours. I went and took the coronavirus test. I have not gotten the results back. So I'm just kind of in limbo right now. All right. So, yes. Now, let's talk about a woman who is actually who had coronavirus and has actually survived coronavirus. Elizabeth Schneider. She's 37 years old.
Starting point is 00:37:55 She said she had a relatively mild experience and she treated herself at her home in Seattle, Washington. She has a doctorate in bioengineering and she said she was sharing her story to give people a little bit of hope. So U.S. health authorities say 80% of cases have been mild. The remaining cases that needed hospitalization affected mainly people over the age of 60 and people with pre-existing conditions like diabetes, heart disease, lung disease. She said she started experiencing flu-like symptoms February 25th. The symptoms occurred three days after she attended a party that was identified as a place where at least five other people caught the bug.
Starting point is 00:38:29 She said she woke up. She was feeling tired. But it was nothing more than what you normally feel when you have to get up and go to work. She said she felt a headache coming on around noon, then fever, then body aches. She left her office and went home. And she had a 103-degree temperature. She said at that point i started to shiver uncontrollably i was getting the chills and getting tingling in my extremities so that was a little
Starting point is 00:38:50 concerning she did take over the counter flu medication called her friend to be on standby in case she needed to go to the hospital but the fever went down the following days so she assumed that she didn't have coronavirus because she didn't have the symptoms like coughing shortness of breath she was up to date with her flu shot and all of that. But when she visited her doctor, they told her go home, rest up, drink large amounts of fluids. And she enrolled in a research program called the Seattle Flu Study, trying to get to the bottom of this. On March 7th, she found out that she did test positive for coronavirus, but her symptoms had already subsided by that time that she was diagnosed. So after you get it, are you immune to it?
Starting point is 00:39:25 Are you good after you catch it once and survive it? See, these are the things that we don't know. I heard that you can get it twice. There was a person, and you know what? There's so much misinformation out there, so I don't know what's true and what's not. So she beat it with over-the-counter medicine. Yeah, well, she beat it just because the majority of people will beat it.
Starting point is 00:39:43 The majority of the cases, like I said, 80% are mild. So, again. That's why I need to hear more survivor stories. Okay, but I'll tell you this. I hear that story that you told just now, and I'll feel all of that this weekend. That's the way my anxiety works. My mind will play tricks on me this whole weekend. So I got to keep telling myself, you're fine until you're not fine.
Starting point is 00:40:04 But then I don't know if I am fine because I need to go get tested to make sure you're not fine, right? Well, you see what her symptoms were. So, you know, that is basically if you feel any of those. Her symptoms were the flu. Yeah, they are. They were. And it don't help that this is allergy season and, you know,
Starting point is 00:40:19 people still got the flu. But people still catching the flu and cold and stuff. And be looking at his cup before you sip out of it because he's not sure. I'm not. But I'm also, you know, I'm thinking past it. I'm thinking like my kids at home. I got to start teaching them. I got to start going through.
Starting point is 00:40:33 Teaching them what? I mean, you want to teach them whatever. Teach them what? We don't even know what's going on. We don't know what to teach them. But the first grade stuff. My daughter's leaving first grade early. So you would still want to keep her on that same program.
Starting point is 00:40:44 So they're still learning. No, we got to find a cure for this. Please, please, they're still learning. No, we gotta find a cure for this. Please, please, please, God, please. We gotta find a cure for this. We cannot have Envy homeschooling nobody. Not DJ Envy. Please. Please, Lord. Lord. Let me pray. God, God up above, please find a vaccine
Starting point is 00:40:57 for this virus or some type of cure for this virus. I gotta start teaching my kids. Please let this pass, because we cannot have DJ Envy at home homeschooling his kids. Please. In your name we pray. Amen. Allah. Allah, if you've ever listened to me, please.
Starting point is 00:41:09 That's not what we need. We got to do the numbers. We got to do the alphabet for my kindergarten and pre-K. No, man. We got to go through all that. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:19 Teach him some business books. Teach him about real estate. You're going to teach him, okay. Yeah, why not? Just teach them early. All right. That's why I don't talk
Starting point is 00:41:30 to you, Steve. You always go too far. That is your front page. Why don't you not talk to your kids? No, I talk to Steve. I'm not talking to Steve. I'm not talking to my kids. I'm talking to Steve. No, I want you to treat your kids like Steve. Just talk to them about real estate. Don't talk to them about nothing else. Talk to them about everything. Please don't talk to them about nothing else.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Talk to them about everything. All right. Now, when we come back, let's open up the phone lines. 800-585-1051. Let's talk the coronavirus. How are you feeling out there? Yeah, man. Let's just all be scared.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Vent a little bit. I'm telling you, like I told you yesterday, you just got to lean into the uncertainty of this whole situation, man. Nobody knows what's going to happen. Nobody needs to try to act like they know what's going to happen. Just lean into the uncertainty of it, and hopefully out of all of this confusion it'll be some type of solution i don't know all right well let's talk about it are you prepared did you get enough food did you get your water did you get your toilet paper did you get ammo
Starting point is 00:42:15 if you needed to get ammo did you get everything that you needed to get to make sure that you can survive for a couple of weeks just in case everything gets shut down do you have some money let's talk about it all. How do you feel out there? 800-585-1051. Let's discuss. All right, it's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Pull out your phone.
Starting point is 00:42:33 Call in right now. Call me. Add your opinion to The Breakfast Club topic. Break it down. 800-585-1051. The Breakfast Club. It's topic time. Call 800-585-1051 to join in to the discussion with The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:42:56 Let's talk about it. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Now, if you just joined us, we're opening up the phone line, talking about the coronavirus. Now, I want to apologize to my wife, because when she started talking about this a month
Starting point is 00:43:12 ago, I was laughing at her. I was joking. I was making fun of her, but thank God she started preparing a little early. I mean, she started getting water, toilet paper, canned goods. I mean, we got so much macaroni and cheese, it's ridiculous. We got charcoal, so if the gas and electricity goes out, we can barbecue
Starting point is 00:43:28 outside. I mean, she got candles, light bulbs, all the cars are gassed up. She was really in play. Like, she made sure she was going to take care of our family, so shout to her. It's crazy how in a situation like this, you start combining all of the different emergency techniques you've
Starting point is 00:43:44 learned. Like, you get stuff that you would use for hurricanes, snowstorms. You're just combining it all. Just about everything. Because we don't know. You don't know where this is going to go, you know. And that's my biggest thing is just like, yo, you really just got to lean into the uncertainty of it all. Like we can't fight against reality. We can't fight against the universe.
Starting point is 00:44:00 And the reality of the situation is we simply don't know what this is or what this will be. Yep. And I don't think money is going to be an issue. And money doesn't matter right now. I know a lot of people are like, oh, well, how am I going to pay my bills? Nobody's going to be able to pay their bills. Nobody's going to be able to pay their mortgages. Nobody's going to be able to pay their car notes. So I don't think it's going to be a problem. I think it's going to be one of the things where the government's going to have to say, you know what, we're going to have to just hold off on mortgages and things like that. People are going to have to have empathy. You know, it is
Starting point is 00:44:29 what it is. I wouldn't downplay that, though, because there's people that really are in financial bind. So that just adds stress to everything else. They can't let it bother them. I mean, the most important thing has to be their health. And they say when you are stressed out, it weakens your immune system.
Starting point is 00:44:46 So you got to just let it roll off of you. It's hard not to because people don't have to say, oh, you don't have to pay your mortgage or you don't have to pay your rent. That's not necessary. So you can hope that people are empathetic in a time like this. But I think we have to work for us. If you work for a small business, the small business might not even be able to survive if they have to pay people who aren't working and they're not making money. So there's just a lot of things.
Starting point is 00:45:08 I agree, but I just think that your path to freedom in this situation is just embracing the fact that uncertainty is essential. Absolutely. Like, you can't force a solution in this situation. Like, you just don't know what that solution is. You just got to allow solutions to spontaneously appear. So do what Drama is doing right now.
Starting point is 00:45:25 Just put your hand sanitizer on and stay away from people. That's the other thing. Like, we need to really be focusing on mitigation at this point in time. And they need to be creating some corona-type hospitals because, honestly, that's a scary thing to me too, right? Because you got 900,000 hospital beds in the country. Correct. I think it's like 95,000 beds in the ICU.
Starting point is 00:45:44 So imagine all of these people start getting, you know, put into the country. Correct. I think it's like 95,000 beds in the ICU. So imagine all of these people start getting, you know, put into the hospital for coronavirus. But then what about people that are dealing with other regular
Starting point is 00:45:51 everyday things like pregnancies and broken bones and heart attacks? But we gotta, we gotta shut down and we gotta be empathetic. I know people say,
Starting point is 00:46:00 well, we gotta care, but I mean, it's one of these points like, for instance, Uber drivers. Yeah. These people, like, what are Uber drivers going to do? You know, what are taxi cab drivers going to do?
Starting point is 00:46:09 You know, what are these people going to do to pay their bills and to make sure things are okay? We can't necessarily, we have to be empathetic to people and really help one another right now. Like, we have to help each other. We need to practice social isolation. And Corona. Social what? Social isolation. Isolation, uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:46:24 The Corona. I'm talking about the beer company. Y'all need to sponsor some Corona. I'm serious. Spons. And Corona. Social what? Social isolation. Isolation, uh-huh. The Corona. I'm talking about the beer company. Y'all need to sponsor some Corona. I'm serious. Sponsor some Corona hospitals. Like, build some facilities strictly for Coronavirus patients. My goodness.
Starting point is 00:46:34 I'm telling you. Hello? They got the money. Hi, good morning. Hey, good morning. What's your name? My name is Jennifer from Queens. Hey.
Starting point is 00:46:42 Now, what are your thoughts? How are you feeling out there? So, I mean, as of right now, I'm not really panicking. I feel like everyone's being a little bit too much at the grocery store because they're, like, leaving nothing and everyone's, like, kind of going a little bit too much. But I am a little bit nervous on the inside just because being a single mom and being a sole provider and living paycheck to paycheck, it does get, it is nerve wracking when they want us to talk about shutting everything down. Because the job doesn't care. The job is just like, wear some gloves and wash your hands.
Starting point is 00:47:19 There's no working from home. Right. Look at us. We're not working from home. Yeah. So, I mean, and then they say, they also say,
Starting point is 00:47:26 so what about if they shut down schools? And they're like, well, you just cross that bridge and we'll get there. And I'm like, okay. Yeah, you know, yeah. And that's part of the thing.
Starting point is 00:47:34 I'm like, you try not to worry because like I said, you know, I pulled all my kids out of school. They all have no school next week. All the schools are shut down.
Starting point is 00:47:42 But like you say, you know, for people who got to get to work, how do you get to work? And you got to watch your kids. You know, you got babies. You got small children. You can't leave your small children.
Starting point is 00:47:49 It's going to be very difficult. And we're really going to have to work with each other. I'm about to send you this article that's going to scare the hell out of you, Envy. Please don't send it to me. The headline is, could New Jersey be past the point of containing coronavirus? Some experts think so. Why would you send that to me? Because we need to be aware.
Starting point is 00:48:04 We live in New Jersey. 800-585-1051. Let's open up the phone lines and just, how do you feel, man? Call us up now. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God.
Starting point is 00:48:16 We are The Breakfast Club. Now, if you just join us, we're talking about just how you're feeling out there. The coronavirus and the news, the press. We're just taking your phone calls. Hello, who's this? This is Michelle. Hey, Michelle. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:48:29 Good morning, Envy. How are you doing? I'm doing well. I actually just listened to your podcast with your wife yesterday. Oh, thank you. Which one? Which episode did you listen to? My best friend, but I love you.
Starting point is 00:48:41 Okay, okay. All right, all right. I want to give a quick shout out to my husband. He's on the road right now getting that morning run. Envy, I love you. I love you. Okay, okay. All right, all right. I want to give a quick shout-out to my husband. He's on the road right now getting that morning grind. I love you, Stefano. Hope you have a good day. Now, we're talking about the coronavirus. What are your thoughts?
Starting point is 00:48:53 How are you feeling out there? I'm kind of nervous. My best friend of 23 years is supposed to be getting married next month in Aruba, and I'm a vice need. Oh, boy. Ain't none of y'all going to be in my way until I scan you with this goddamn temperature thing and make sure y'all ain't got no fever. Hi, Charlamagne.
Starting point is 00:49:10 I love you. I watch all your YouTube videos. Thank you. I appreciate that. You know, um... Hey, Yee. Hey, what's up, boo? Hi, how you doing over there? I'm good. I'm in Detroit, so I'm quarantined in the studio. Yeah, but you're good, I'm sure. Is she canceling the wedding wedding or what is she doing
Starting point is 00:49:26 we're not sure yet I've been trying to be a good supporter and you know not ask I called my mom about it and she's like don't ask don't say nothing just wait but the problem is my husband and I we're in Georgia
Starting point is 00:49:42 right now 107.7 but we were gonna fly My husband and I, we're in Georgia right now, 107.7. Uh-huh. But we were going to fly out to New York to see a concert of, like, an Italian rapper that my husband likes. His name is Salmo. I don't think it's going to happen. No, we just got the notice yesterday that they're rescheduling it to October. So we're going to have to fly out of Atlanta and hopefully see. But these prices are
Starting point is 00:50:05 ridiculous. Yeah, prices are very cheap for flights right now. I mean, there's a couple of things. Prices are cheap for flights and even mortgage rates. I was telling everybody yesterday, if you have a mortgage and you're paying four point five percent or five percent or whatever it may be, the mortgages, I think are going to go in the low, too. So if you can refinance, that'll help you out a lot. That'll lower your payments by a couple hundred dollars a month, which can absolutely help you. So just look into things like that, too, because I'm the finance guy when it comes to real estate. So I'm always looking at ways to save money. Well, what would your best advice be in this situation?
Starting point is 00:50:38 Quarantine yourself. Quarantine and save. Yeah, I know. But social distance. Hey, where should I tell my best friend? You Social distance. What should I tell my best friend? You said what? What should I tell my best friend? You know, it's going to be devastating.
Starting point is 00:50:50 We've been friends for 23 years. Wait a minute, wait a minute. Why are you... She might not make it to her own wedding. Yeah, I don't think she will make it necessarily. You acting like you the only person that's going to show up to Aruba? We're all in this together. Her and her groom may not make it to Aruba.
Starting point is 00:51:02 What do you mean, what you going to tell your best friend? You tell your best friend, Corona. You should see the group chat that the Vice Bates got going on. What'd they do with you? You got to tell a bunch of females? I don't know. Man. I just feel bad because they probably paid a lot of money for that wedding.
Starting point is 00:51:18 The dress, the hotel, the food, the flowers. I mean, it sucks. But, I mean. Hey, I'm going to be honest with you. Well, maybe they'll be able to reschedule it, you know? Hey, we've been on the phone with you too long. There's been 10 new cases of corona detected since the time we've been on the phone with you. Well, thank you, mama.
Starting point is 00:51:34 Good luck, all right? It takes two weeks for symptoms to show up, so we've been on the phone with you way too long, okay? 800-585-1051. We're talking the coronavirus. How do you feel? Call us now. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:51:44 Good morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Now, if you just joined us, we're talking about the coronavirus, man. How are you feeling about it? I mean, it's all over the press, all over the news, all over media. I don't know how you should feel, but
Starting point is 00:51:59 I keep telling y'all, just lean into the uncertainty of the whole situation, man. That's it. Stop trying to figure it out. Like, maybe out of this problem, out of this confusion, out of this disorder, out of this chaos, some solutions will spontaneously emerge. I love my dad's mentality. I just ain't there yet. My dad was like, look, you know, you got to do what you got to do. I mean, he was like, if I run out of toilet paper, hey, who cares?
Starting point is 00:52:19 I'm going to use newspaper. I just wet a little newspaper. Hey, that's what I did when I was a kid at times. So I'm like, I love the way that my dad reacts. He was like, yeah, you know, water. Yeah, I'll just boil water. It is what it is. You know, I'm not there yet.
Starting point is 00:52:30 Let me tell you, I'm drinking green tea right now. I'm eating oranges, apples, drinking plenty of water. I'm doing all of that right now just to make sure I have all my essential vitamins. Yeah, and they say take vitamin C and zinc. That is the best. And I've got, you can go to a vitamin shop. They still have vitamin C and zinc if you need any of that. You know, Amazon's not delivering anymore right now, too.
Starting point is 00:52:49 So if you were ordering stuff on Amazon, they put a halt to all of that. Hello, who's this? Yeah, good morning. This is Chris. How you guys doing today? Chris, what up, man? Oh, man, look, all I got to say is, man, it's not that serious in my opinion. I feel like I think the name makes it sound worse than what it is,
Starting point is 00:53:06 just like the flu. If everybody say, oh, look, you got influenza, or the next person got influenza, or that person got influenza, that sounds worse than the coronavirus. Everybody catches the flu every day. Same thing goes for corona. So anybody shouldn't be that afraid of it. I disagree with you.
Starting point is 00:53:20 I think the coronavirus is a very great name. I think that it's a name that could quench your thirst, depending on how you feel about coronas. Yeah, but at the same time, I feel like people are making it bigger than what it is. Like, it really isn't that serious. I think that if you got over 120,000 people infected worldwide, over 5,000 deaths,
Starting point is 00:53:41 I don't think that's making it a bigger deal than it is, bro. I think it's just growing exponentially, think that's making it a bigger deal than it is, bro. I think it's just growing exponentially and that's what it is. Like, overnight, we see so many new cases so if it keeps on growing exponentially it will be even worse than what it is. Every day it's getting worse. Like I told y'all yesterday, if it was a dude that
Starting point is 00:53:57 walked around the hood and you knew he killed 5,000 people, you'd be terrified of that person. Okay, so treat Corona with the same respect. Hello, who's this? It's Emilio. What's up, Breakfast Club? Good morning.
Starting point is 00:54:09 Emilio, what's popping, man? We're talking about how you feeling out there. How you feeling, bro? You got a newborn, right? Yeah, I got a newborn, man. I'm out here feeling good. But, you know, I'm not here trying to take the precautions because, you know, they're saying it's attacking the immune system of the weaker ones.
Starting point is 00:54:23 But the good thing that I'm seeing is that they're saying that babies and women are less susceptible, especially newborns, because of the breast milk, because all the antibodies that's in it. So that's good for me, and, you know, that puts my mind at ease a little bit. I didn't hear that, bro. You better get a second opinion. You should call your doctor just to make sure, because I didn't hear that. Hey, man, trust me, I'm still taking all precautions.
Starting point is 00:54:44 I'm cleaning everything. There you go. You know, I'm still taking all precautions. I'm cleaning everything. You know, I'm doing what I'm supposed to do. So y'all take care too. Absolutely. Now, they did tell me children are doing better with it. I don't know. My doctor told me that. He said because it feels like a lot of children who are in schools, they get beat up. Their immune system gets beat up so much so they're doing a lot better.
Starting point is 00:55:00 But I'm still taking precautions. I ain't listening to him necessarily. So what is the moral of the story guys? The moral of the story is the same thing I told y'all yesterday Lean into the uncertainty of it all That's all you can do Don't argue against reality Don't argue against the universe
Starting point is 00:55:14 We don't know why we're in this situation right now We don't know what this moment is going to be But hopefully in all of this chaos And all of these problems A solution will emerge. And, you know, hopefully we come out a better society for it. Let me ask you a real question. I thought about this yesterday, but I wound up finding toilet paper, right?
Starting point is 00:55:33 Now, my plan was if I couldn't find toilet paper, I was just going to borrow some from here. Could they fire me for that? Because I'm borrowing it. When I get it, I was going to give it back. Are you going to borrow it as in give it back? You don't never give stuff back. I mean, if, you know, when things were okay and I could go find it, I would bring it back. But I was going to take toilet paper.
Starting point is 00:55:50 I don't know if I believe that, though. You still owe me some MetroCards. You owe Dan some headphones. I gave you your MetroCards. Stop it. I do owe Dan some headphones. You're always borrowing things and never giving it back. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:55:58 I think they should fire you for that. Because I know you're not going to bring the toilet paper back. These Clorox wipes look pretty good. All right. We got rumors on the way, E. Yes, we'll talk about a season four of a show that I love that's coming soon to bring the toilet paper back. These Clorox wipes look pretty good. All right, we got rumors on the way, Yee? Yes, we'll talk about a season four of a show that I love that's coming soon, and that trailer is out also. He had a lot of drama with his baby mom, cops involved and everything,
Starting point is 00:56:14 but now they're engaged. All right, we'll get into that next. Keep it locked. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. She's spilling the tea. This is The Rumor Report with Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:56:28 Now you know how much I love Insecure. Well, they have the trailer out for season four, and here's a piece of that. I'm on this forward path. I'm focused. It's like no job. No man. All of this sounds bad, but it's actually really good.
Starting point is 00:56:47 It's good vibes, though. What's the latest on H&B, by the way? It's all good sex and Woody Bancher. Hold on, hold on, hold on. He f***s you down, makes you laugh. What's the problem? Because I don't hear it. I know that you and Condola are friends. Hey! I'm there. I know that you and Condola are friends. Hey.
Starting point is 00:57:06 I'm there. You know, I'm committed. April 12th, Insecure is back. I'm committed to Insecure. I'm committed to Issa and Molly and Lawrence and Tiffany Dubois. I'm committed. I'm all in. I will be there.
Starting point is 00:57:18 All right. If you guys remember what happened in the last season, she had quit her job. And so I guess now she's looking for something. Remember that job she had at We Got Y'all? Mm-hmm. And she has to deal with Lawrence's new girlfriend and all kinds of things. So there you have it. And that's a great time to focus.
Starting point is 00:57:34 She's right. When you have no job and no man. And Tiffany's pregnant. Tiffany DuBois. Amanda Steele's character. So I want to see where that storyline goes. I see Molly got her little white chocolate in the trailer. Alright, now
Starting point is 00:57:48 speaking of television shows. I don't watch Insecure yet. I'm going to watch it now. I got a lot to watch now, so I got a lot to catch up on. Well, it's not until April 12th, so you got a little time. Alright, Bow Wow tweeted out, we done with WeTV and growing up hip-hop. Get your ish together. Until then, we out. Ain't no show without
Starting point is 00:58:03 Bow Wow. Know that. Good luck. So that was a tweet that Bow Wow sent out. up hip-hop get your ish together until then we out ain't no show without bow wow know that good luck so that was a tweet that bow wow sent out other things that are getting delayed is fast and furious 9 if you guys have seen that originally that sequel was supposed to be released this may now it will be released in april of 2021 that is in response to actions taken around the world concerning coronavirus. So, I don't know. I guess they said globally they have to release it then. The reasoning is that it became clear that it won't be
Starting point is 00:58:33 possible for all of our fans around the world to see the film this May. Yeah, because Fast and Furious is huge in places like China, you know, so you can't just put it out now. You'll lose money. And 2 Chainz has responded to some drama that happened online. Now, apparently the Shade Room captured a screenshot of a comment that he left on a woman's page.
Starting point is 00:58:55 The woman, her name on Instagram is Customize Emi, I guess. And he responded, girl, because she's looking like, you know, she's got a little sexy pose going on. And the shade room posted, oop, the roommates aren't aren't feeling 2 Chainz comment under this girl's profile. 2 Chainz claims this is someone he is doing business with and is strictly a working relationship. Well, 2 Chainz did not like that because you don't play with that man's marriage. Right. And he posted a screenshot of his text messages with the young lady he said y'all keep hitting me up about this lame ass ish shade room posted about me and her we've been working on her project and working on getting her on getting her out of her current deal now that i
Starting point is 00:59:37 explained that and i hate to explain ish but when kesha had folks calling her and talking ish had to straighten it when keisha had folks calling her and and talkingh, had to straighten it. When Keisha had folks calling her and talking ish, had to straighten it out. A bunch of lonely, jealous, no-having assholes. So he posted those screenshots of the women and, you know, how everybody was reaching, and you can see that they have a business relationship. It's a shame that he did have to explain that, though,
Starting point is 01:00:01 just from him leaving a comment on this woman's page. All right, Antonio Brown has proposed, that he did have to explain that though from him leaving a comment on this woman's page all right antonio brown has proposed and he's proposing to his baby mom chelsea if you guys remember there was a lot of drama between the two of them uh there was cops call there were different situations where he was trying to sue her evict her from one of his homes uh the cops were called multiple times but now it looks like they've patched things up. He posted a video of some music playing. He said, I just proposed at Chelsea and they're hugging each other. So I assume she said yes.
Starting point is 01:00:33 So if so, I hope that the two of them have it all the way together and that it works out. That's all we can hope for. All right. I'm Angela Yee. And that is your rumor report. All right. Thank you, Missy Charlamagne.
Starting point is 01:00:43 Who you giving that donkey to? A selfish ass person from Florida who needs to come to the front of the congregation because we like to have a word with him. You can't be selfish at a time like this. How dare you? I knew Florida was going to find a way to F things up even more. All right, we'll get into that next. Keep it locked.
Starting point is 01:00:55 This is The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Make sure you tell them to watch out for Florida, man. Florida, man. The craziest people in America come from the Bronx and all of Florida. Yes, you are a donkey. A Florida man attacked an ATM for a very strange reason. It gave him too much money.
Starting point is 01:01:14 A Florida man is arrested after deputies say he rigged the door to his home in an attempt to electrocute his pregnant wife. Police arrested an Orlando man for attacking a flamingo. Put the breakfast club, bitchy. Donkey of the day with Charlemagne the God. I don't know why y'all keep letting him get y'all like this. Yeah, it's Donkey of the Day for Friday, March 13th. Friday the 13th and Corona's playing.
Starting point is 01:01:33 Jason! Now, leave it to Florida, okay? Okay, leave it to Florida to Florida during a global pandemic. Now, I don't know if this person is actually from Florida, but he was trying to get to Florida. Either way, what does your Uncle Charla always say about the great state of Florida? The craziest people in America come from the Bronx and all
Starting point is 01:01:50 of Florida, and this person who has not been named was a passenger on a flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Palm Beach, Florida. Now, on a regular day for most regular people, that would be fine. But this passenger, who I believe is a Florida resident, okay? Because only a Florida resident would be trying to get back to Florida at a time like this in the condition he was in from NYC, okay?
Starting point is 01:02:10 But this person clearly wanted to get back home or wanted to get to something so bad that this happened. Let's go to WPTV NBC5 for the report, please. We're in Palm Beach County. A man who tested positive for coronavirus, He flew in on a flight last night from New York. Passengers had to be held there at the airport before they were finally released today. Shannon, it was a JetBlue flight, and in a statement today, JetBlue says they thoroughly sanitized that plane and the terminal. They are also asking any passengers who don't feel well not to fly, and they are waiving any fees for canceling.
Starting point is 01:02:45 Meanwhile today, one man who was on that plane sitting in the same row as the man who tested positive for coronavirus wonders today if he has the virus. It was absolutely shocking, especially when I see the news today where as soon as we get off the plane, they're sending people on in hazmat suits. As others questioned, why would a sick person get on a plane at all?
Starting point is 01:03:08 The man was a dummy, you know, inconsiderate. So I was on that plane for five, six hours with recirculating air with a man who tested positive. And to tell me that it's OK for me to just go home after everything I've read and seen, just it didn't seem like the proper advice. He had to be from Florida. Either he's from Florida or he got somebody that he really, really loves in Florida because there's no way that you would be getting on a plane to go, because you know when you're in that position, when you think you guys won't be around people you love.
Starting point is 01:03:33 He clearly had to be from Florida. Either way, it was selfish. Extremely selfish, okay? You know, back in the day, I used to hear people say things like they would get an STD test, but don't go back for their results because as long as they don't know they have it, they will be fine. And I used to think that was the most ignorant, selfish logic because you're only worried about yourself.
Starting point is 01:03:51 But what if you got it? You need to know so you don't share that dirty D with others, okay? This person basically did the equivalent of that to me. He got tested for coronavirus and got on that plane knowing he was awaiting results for the coronavirus test, and he didn't tell the airline officials anything. Now now because of this person's selfishness and recklessness a whole crew and other passengers are possibly at risk of having that goddamn corona quimby okay this is exactly why this corona quimby will be such a problem because containment
Starting point is 01:04:19 is over in the u.s all right america America focused on the wrong factors and failed, okay? Community spread is way worse than we know, and it's only going to get worse. Not to mention they have very, very, very, very limited ability to test. So there has to be way more cases than being reported. Now these passengers on this flight, the crew, have to wait four to five days for their symptoms to peak, okay? This is all bad, all right? The way my anxiety is set up, I would be having panic attacks right now if I was on this flight.
Starting point is 01:04:47 We don't even know how this thing spreads. It could be droplets, and if it is, I'm bugging out because I didn't have a surgical mask on, because I didn't clean up my seat when I sat down. If it's airborne, well, I'm screwed because the only thing that can prevent that is complete isolation from those who got it, and that's not possible because you,
Starting point is 01:05:04 Corona carrier, decided to get on an air carrier and possibly infect every damn body. Not everybody carrying it. OK, all to get back to Florida. All right. Now I was thinking about this. Would you rather this infected person get on a plane or would you rather this person drive? Right. Because think about it.
Starting point is 01:05:21 When you drive, you got to go through New York, D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, then into Florida. Think about all the people he would touch on the way there, driving, stopping to go to the bathroom
Starting point is 01:05:31 and all of that type of stuff. At least flying, we know is contained to this plane. Nobby. What you would rather? Pee on the side of the road. He ain't got to get out
Starting point is 01:05:39 and talk to people. He ain't got to, open your window a little bit, let me get, fill it up. That's all you got to do. But if you're on the plane, it's one flight. You know the passengers.
Starting point is 01:05:47 You know the crew. So I guess we can contain it better. But I say F all of that. What needs to happen is if people think they got symptoms, they should be tested and quarantined immediately. Okay, this is what I mean when I say containment is over in the USA. We are failing because we're focusing on the wrong things, not taking it serious.
Starting point is 01:06:04 If you come to get tested, you have to be assigned to one place, probably your house, until we figure out if you have it or not. No travel, no work, no just walking around, okay? And because we don't have those kind of stipulations in place, situations like this happen. And here we are. Pandemic. Global pandemic. Please give this passenger the biggest E-R.
Starting point is 01:06:29 Yeah, man. It's all bad, bro. All right. Well, thank you for that donkey of the day. Yeah, it's all bad. Now let's brighten things up a little bit. How can we do that? Angela Bassett will be joining us.
Starting point is 01:06:38 Now you got damn right. Is she from Florida? She is from St. Petersburg, Florida. That's right. That's right. I love being in this woman's presence now. I've met Angela Bassett quite a few times, and I can honestly say that is the only person that I've ever interviewed on The Breakfast Club who always feels surreal to me. There you go.
Starting point is 01:06:56 I'm talking about out of everybody, out of all presidential candidates, out of all the spiritual leaders, out of every celebrity rapper that has been in here. When I am in Angela Bassett's presence, it just feels surreal. That's the light. You're nuts. We're going to talk to Angela Bassett. I'll ride Angela Bassett nuts all day. That's a queen. Drop on the Toothpaste and Angela Bassett.
Starting point is 01:07:17 We all love Angela Bassett. If this is what you call D-Ride, I am a D-Angela Bassett D-Rider. I ain't mad at you. That's a queen. A whole queen. Regal. Spray this goddamn place, as a matter of fact. Make sure everything's wiped down.
Starting point is 01:07:33 All right. Angela Bassett, when we come back. Turn Lil Boosie on and wipe this whole thing down. All right. It's the Breakfast Club. We're morning. The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody.
Starting point is 01:07:44 It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We got a special guest in the building. Mother effing queen. She's back. That's right. Welcome. How are you, Ms. Bassett?
Starting point is 01:07:55 I'm doing all right. Thank you. Sorry we couldn't hug you and show you a lot of love because of the coronavirus. We all kind of just gave each other the elbow dab. Little elbow dab. What are you doing to stay coronavirus free? I know you got some home remedies. What you doing?
Starting point is 01:08:07 I'm, you know, drinking water. Okay. I'll swallow it down. I'm trying with the hand sanitizer and all that. And trying not to, you know, worry about it. Are you nervous about it? I don't think so. A little bit, you know bit but I think nervous about
Starting point is 01:08:25 what that does to us as a community you know babies need that touch to thrive, to live and now we're distancing ourselves from each other physically maybe we'll have to stare into one another's eyes
Starting point is 01:08:40 and really see one another man social media was doing that before the coronavirus keeping us apart we got that on top of it one another's eyes and really see one another. Man, social media was doing that before the coronavirus, keeping us apart, you know what I mean? We got that on top of it, right? Yeah. So that's interesting to think about. But no, I'm not trying to go crazy about it. Just trying to, you know, eyes open.
Starting point is 01:08:58 This could be a good storyline for 9-1-1 next season. Ooh. No, seriously. Yeah, I'm sure we'll. You take things from real life situations. Five of the six situations usually come right off, you know,
Starting point is 01:09:11 right out of life. Does anything scare you anymore? What do you call 911 for? I've never... No, I have called 911 for fire. Okay. Fire in your house or a neighbor? Yeah, my house. But I'm a Florida girl, you know, trying to set a little fireplace situation and, you know, didn't know to open the flute and any of that.
Starting point is 01:09:32 So it was getting out of hand. All the craziest people in America come from the Bronx and all of Florida. And all of Florida. All of Florida. So you agree. So you agree Florida is different. Yeah, they got some stories come up out of there but you know not all of them yeah well congratulations on your naacp image award we were at the award you were there that's right i saw you didn't i
Starting point is 01:09:55 see no he wasn't no i wasn't there and i were there i saw somebody my daughter had a cheerleading competition that week okay cheer i was there i actually saw you talking to lizzo outside before everybody went inside. I was like, look at that. That is an amazing picture right there, you and Lizzo. Oh, I was happy to meet her. I just knew she was going to win, you know. But I didn't think she was going to be there because I heard she was going to be in Japan.
Starting point is 01:10:15 Right. So I was like, girl, you heard you were going to be in Japan. She was like, Corona. I was like, oh, yeah. Right. Well, their loss. My gain. The Image Awards are so,
Starting point is 01:10:25 it's my first time going. Really? But that is quite a room and quite a feeling to be there and all that black power and excellence in one space. And to see you get up there and make your speech,
Starting point is 01:10:35 everybody that was there. I got to hang out with Lynn Whitfield, which was really fun after that. And just to see everybody showing each other love. Rihanna was there. That's right. Blackish, everybody.
Starting point is 01:10:44 And of course. That's right. That's right. I saw Angela Bassett. I was like, anna was there. Blackish everybody. And of course, I saw Angela Bassett. I was like, oh, there you go, Angela. Sitting next to Tracy and Yara and Janelle all around you. So it's a lot of love. It seems like a room where you're celebrated, not tolerated like the Oscars. Absolutely.
Starting point is 01:10:59 Absolute celebration and love and pride. You know, it just gets filled with inspiration and pride. And now that they got it down to about two hours show, it's even better because I remember going back. I would have protein bars in my bag. You know, they would have steak and chicken
Starting point is 01:11:16 dinners, you know, at the end and it's like one in the morning. He started five in the afternoon. You know, and the one. You're like, oh my God, I'm fasting now. No, I just gotta go home and go to bed.
Starting point is 01:11:29 That's because they do the dinner now the night before. Yeah, now they split it up. I did go to the dinner. The dinner was long. It was like, I was like,
Starting point is 01:11:35 whoo. And then they do the same awards, but they only do certain awards, I guess, during the awards show. But the night before
Starting point is 01:11:42 at the dinner, they give out all the awards, but that's all of them. Is the NAACP award just as important as an Oscar to you? Absolutely. It's my community. It's who has and continues
Starting point is 01:11:54 to show me love and appreciation and always shows up for me, and I recognize and grateful for it and feel it, so it's extremely important. Do you need that kind of validation, though? Does Angela Bassett need the validation of any?
Starting point is 01:12:08 Who don't like validation? You know what Angela Bassett wants and needs? To keep working. To work. Yeah, to do the work that I love doing. You know, awards are nice, super nice. They're great. But awards are awarded by men.
Starting point is 01:12:24 And, you know, man, I like it. You're great. But awards are awarded by men. And, you know, man, I like it. You don't. You know, so some awards are undeniable. Maybe some of the awards they give you, like of that season, of that year, of those offerings, some stand above and beyond. But sometimes
Starting point is 01:12:40 it's, you know, it's all about equal and all good. How you pick one. What are you saying? I appreciate the awards, but I don't live and breathe for them. You know what I mean? We were just talking to Ice Cube.
Starting point is 01:12:57 We were talking about the movies when we grew up. They meant so much to us. Whether it was Boys in the Hood, Waiting to Exhale. We don't see those type of movies now. They were just better back then. Why do you think that is?
Starting point is 01:13:11 Well, you know, sometimes when you have successes, it's about copying the success. Sometimes, you know,
Starting point is 01:13:18 as opposed to, you know, some fresh ideas. Like Boys in the Hood, I remember where I was, who I went with, with the theater, how it made me feel. Like I remember where I was, who I went with, with the theater, how it made me feel.
Starting point is 01:13:27 Like, I remember. I don't think there's movies like that that people live with like that, besides Black Panther, but I don't see... I know. Yeah, and both of them were relatively young filmmakers, hungry, and really putting it all in there. Not, you know, successes and formulas,
Starting point is 01:13:46 but they were really fresh ideas and stories and putting all of them into it. You know, with John at 19 and Ryan. So, I mean, they're the real truth. It seemed freer back then. Like, those seemed like authentically black stories in the 90s. Now it seems like black stories that have been pitched in a room of white people. And white people say, I like this, but take this and add this.
Starting point is 01:14:09 And that's what it seems like. Sometimes, yeah, you get a room of suits trying to recreate a success. And what you think made it successful. And you're an executive producer, aren't you? I'm one of them. One of the executive producers. Is that important to you when you say, I want to work on a project but I need to get that credit as well?
Starting point is 01:14:28 I can't sit here and say I insist on it. But it's... You can ask for that though because you're Angela Bassett. So I'm sure any project that someone wants to work on, you're like, well, I would like to discuss getting this credit as well because you've earned that. Yeah, sometimes
Starting point is 01:14:44 if they're offering it, they may offer it to get you, you know, as part of the package. Right. What about you actually directing? I know you did the lifetime. I enjoy directing because I enjoy celebrating and pushing and, you know, awakening others' gifts and all of us collaborating and working together. So I appreciate, you know, what each individual brings to the, puts in the pot, you know.
Starting point is 01:15:07 But it's time-consuming, much more time-consuming than acting. And with, in doing a, you know, weekly one-hour drama, I can't, can't get away. Well, like, right now, this would be my time to direct something, this hiatus. Alright, we have more with Angela Bassett.
Starting point is 01:15:24 When we come back, don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. E.J. Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We're still kicking it
Starting point is 01:15:32 with Angela Bassett. Charlamagne Yee. What excites you nowadays, creatively? Hmm. Directing. Very excited about that. So we'll see.
Starting point is 01:15:42 The stage. You know, every time I come to New York, like last night, it was, you know, yesterday I was in the theater. It was Wednesday. So I got to check out two shows, you know. They were saying those tickets are right now because of coronavirus. $50? Yes.
Starting point is 01:15:54 And empty. They're saying they're empty, right? Well, Scott Root and his show. Okay. Not like every show on Broadway, but his show. So I'm actually going to see West Side Story tonight. Saw Soldier Story last night. You saw Tina Turner on Broadway?
Starting point is 01:16:05 I saw that on Broadway and in London. And what did I see? I saw Intimate Apparel, which is now an opera by Lynn Nottage. Saw Blair, David Allen Greer last night. You're not scared to go there? Do you bring your wipe? Do you wipe down the chairs? Do you wear a mask?
Starting point is 01:16:22 The wood seats? How long does it stay on fabric, on seats? Did I? I think I did a little squirt in the hand. That's it. And just kept my hands to myself. My arms to myself. I wasn't scared.
Starting point is 01:16:33 I love theater too much. Are there any movies that you've done in the past that you would like to recreate today? We see people recreating or doing part twos and sequels. Well, I hear that they're bringing actually, waiting to excel, the Broadway. Listen, that's amazing because between the soundtrack and the storyline and the plot, I could probably recite that movie word
Starting point is 01:16:54 for word. Take your, get your f***, get your f*** and get out. Yeah, yeah. So that's, it'll be nice to see that. How was it like to shed that character afterward? Like, cause that has to make you feel like, you know, how you bring a piece of your character home with you afterward. What was it like to...
Starting point is 01:17:10 I didn't live with that one too much. I lived more with Tina, I think. Oh, yeah. I mean, trying to learn the songs, and is she inhaling or exhaling? So you just really had to laugh and the way she spoke, trying to get bits of that. So that one seemed a couple months after,
Starting point is 01:17:32 laughing like her, talking like her, kind of strange. But not as much for exhale. Maybe because it wasn't based on real life, so it's a character I came up with or whatever. But it was cathartic. It was nice. You never burned nobody's clothes or anything, right?
Starting point is 01:17:48 No, I didn't. Although some folks did do that. Yeah, we did have. Probably to jail. You ever go to the window or two before? Never. Never. When you watch What's Love Got to Do It On on Broadway,
Starting point is 01:17:58 does that trigger it at all? You know, you think you're going to see something brand new. You're sitting in the theater, and it was like, oh, that's familiar. That's familiar. So it was like, oh, that's familiar. That's familiar. So it was an odd experience because I think I literally thought I was going to see a different story than her life. But her life is her life. And we covered in the movie.
Starting point is 01:18:17 So it was interesting deja vu. Right. Very interesting. She did a great job as Tina on Broadway, too. I was like, how is she running up and down the steps in those heels? I was like, please be careful. I saw her backstage in London. I didn't expect the reaction. We were both like
Starting point is 01:18:32 just crying. Just like, you know. When you play that role, you talk about the mannerisms of Tina, but you had to embody that trauma of abuse as well. So that has to be hard to get up. Right. Yeah, it was. Especially
Starting point is 01:18:47 like the scene, the rape scene, you know, by the aquarium and stuff. Or him fighting and dragging you down the hall. But it was good to have a colleague, to have
Starting point is 01:19:04 that with someone you trust, I'm speaking of Lawrence, you know, to go through that because you know, he really's got you, you know, got you emotionally and just actor to actor because the hours were long, it was
Starting point is 01:19:20 extremely physical, you actually hurt for 30 straight days. If you're not dancing, you're lifting weights. So lactic acid build up for 30 straight days. Something, everything hurt. But you had to
Starting point is 01:19:36 go on. Some of it was understood like dynamics within a relationship or man or woman or black love or violence or whatever and that you take seriously and like you say
Starting point is 01:19:52 it inhabits your spirit and yet we're making a movie and it's like not just making a movie but as we make this movie you're living through it. Because even watching the play, I wouldn't think you'd be flinching and everything.
Starting point is 01:20:08 Because I'm sure psychologically you've got to tell yourself, okay, I didn't go through that. Right, you didn't. But when you get in that zone, sometimes you have to stay there. It wasn't a matter of like, oh, can I have something to drink? Oh, we've got five minutes? Okay. Okay, back in it. You know, you sort of have to, well, I have to stay, like, close to that seat. You know, close to that feeling.
Starting point is 01:20:34 Are things getting better in Hollywood for black actors and actresses? I feel as if they are. You know, more opportunity. There was a time where I knew, it seemed like I knew the name of every actor. It's not a, you know, one you could bring up that I wasn't familiar with, had met. But there's lots of talent that I'm becoming familiar with or not familiar with. Now, with 9-1-1 being renewed, do you look at police officers differently since you are in it all day, every day now? I look at
Starting point is 01:21:08 them different. No, I'm still scared of them. Still wary. You know, still wary. But I did train with a sister who was a sergeant when I first started. In L.A. In South
Starting point is 01:21:24 Central. You know, they started when I first started. Where at? In L.A., in South Central. Wow. You know, and meeting her. You know, they started football leagues down there for the kids. I met her down in South Central, and Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna putting on a free concert, you know, in the neighborhood. Took the kids, and we're like,
Starting point is 01:21:44 something smells funny. Oh, yeah, fine. Yeah. No marijuana. It'll be a cataract. Have you ever had anybody be rude to you? Like when you were coming up as an actress, somebody that you looked up to when you met them and they just were not nice?
Starting point is 01:21:57 Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Why that mean face? If I did, I forgot about them. But I would always ask, are they nice? You know, you just hope those that you, you know, your icons or those that you appreciated. You know, so when I met Cicely Tyson or Rosalind Cash or, you know, Gloria Foster, they were wonderful to me. But you show them respect and they appreciated that, you know.
Starting point is 01:22:21 They've been, you know, been through the gauntlet, you know, so, no, I, like I said, I'm, I appreciate the work that we all put in, you know, we all have various talents, gifts, and abilities, and I learned that on what, you know, on what's love, you know, I think I grew up with it in Florida, some good come up out of that, you know. But on that set, sometimes the director would run in early in the morning after we had an eight-hour turnaround. He'd force you a call, come back in eight hours, and he'd run in the trailer and say, Come on, come out of here, come out of here, it's time to shoot. And it was like, the hair person hasn't done her thing, the makeup person hasn't done his thing, the costumer, you know, we've carded, I hadn't done her thing.
Starting point is 01:23:04 It was like, we all trying to serve this, you know, this story and give it our all and best, but everybody has a job to do. Right. You know? So it's like, okay, we're ready. And it was like, oh, oh, oh, sorry. You're damn right you're sorry. Let's all let people do their job.
Starting point is 01:23:24 You seem like the type to not hold on to no negativity. Like, every time I see you, you just seem so unbothered. It take me a minute if I go through something, I think, to process it, you know, because I'm thinking it through now. What happened and why did that happen? How could I stop and what's the best way to handle it? But once it's, well, but I try to.
Starting point is 01:23:44 Do you woosah? Do you meditate? What do you do? How do you do that? Pray. how could I stop and what's the best way to handle it. But once it's, well, but I try to. Do you woosah? Do you meditate? What do you do? How do you get up? Pray. Don't mistake my presence for the event. Okay.
Starting point is 01:23:54 We all here. Well, thank you so much for joining us. Thank you for having me. That's right. Angela Bassett. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Listen up. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 01:24:09 Listen up. It's just in. All the gossip. The Rumor Report. Got gossip. With Angela Yee. It's the Rumor Report. The Breakfast Club. Yes, if you are planning to go to Disney World, Disney World will be closing on March 16th on Monday.
Starting point is 01:24:26 Now, they did say that the hotels and the retail locations and restaurants will be open until further notice, but the actual park will be closed starting on Monday. Disneyland, in the meantime, is closed. And that is closed starting tomorrow. So that is only the fourth time ever that Disneyland has closed due to coronavirus concerns. Yeah, social distance is the key, man. You know what I'm saying? People can't be on top of each other like that. So I get it.
Starting point is 01:24:46 Now, Kevin Love has announced that he is giving $100,000 to the Cavs Arena to help support the staff impacted by the shutdown. He put up an Instagram post on Thursday. He said everyone reacts differently to stressful situations and the fear and anxiety resulting from the recent outbreak of coronavirus can be extremely overwhelming through the game of basketball. We've been able to address major issues and stand together as a progressive league that cares about the players, the fans, and the communities where we work. I'm concerned about the level of anxiety that everyone's feeling, and that's why I'm committing $100,000
Starting point is 01:25:16 through the Kevin Love Fund in support of the Cavs Arena and support staff that had a sudden life shift due to the suspension of the NBA season. So hopefully other people will join him and support the staff as well. Salute to my guy, Kevin Love. Drop on the clues, brother, Kevin Love, man. Good, good, good, good, good brother.
Starting point is 01:25:34 One of the few white men I like. Alright, and there is a documentary that is going to be coming out and that is going to be discussing the tragic murder of Nipsey Hussle. That's going to be airing on BBC. So that'll be on BBC
Starting point is 01:25:49 iPlayer starting March 26th. It's called The Mysterious Murder of Nipsey. They'll be trying to detail all the different theories around why Eric Holder even needed two guns to shoot Nipsey, all kinds of things. It feels like that hurts a lot to even want to watch this. Why do people think that it's a mystery around it, though?
Starting point is 01:26:07 What do you mean? I don't know. I didn't know there were a lot of different theories. Yeah, like, I mean, I don't know. I thought we seen the video. Huh? I thought we seen the what? I'm confused.
Starting point is 01:26:16 Yeah, we saw the video. I'm trying to figure out what's the mystery. Like, what's the mystery behind it? Like, I guess that's why we got to watch the doc, huh? Yeah, I guess right. Yeah, that's going to be a hard one to watch. It feels like it's so soon still, you know? All right, and speaking of coronavirus shutdown,
Starting point is 01:26:30 CBS's Late Show has shut down production. Wendy Williams has shut down production. The Tonight Show, the Late Night Show, all of that, it will be suspending production for now. So there will be repeats on in some instances, but I guess we'll just keep you updated on what's happening with that. All right. Well, I'm Angela Yee.
Starting point is 01:26:49 And that is your rumor report. All right. Thank you, Miss Yee. All right. Well, Revolt, we'll see you. I'm not sure when because you guys are shutting down for a little bit. Yeah. Revolt is shut down for the next at least two weeks.
Starting point is 01:27:01 We don't know how long it's going to be, but definitely for two weeks. So is it? Now, listen. Yes. Revolt shuts down for two weeks at least two weeks. We don't know how long it will end up being, but definitely for two weeks. So, now listen. Yes. Revolt shuts down for two weeks quite often. Correct. Are they just blaming this on corona? I think so.
Starting point is 01:27:12 Okay, okay. I think so. Well, it was supposed to be one week next week, but then I guess they took this week off as well. Yeah, Revolt quarantines itself all the time. All the time. In order to protect Diddy's money, all right? All right. We quarantine to protect the health of ourselves and others. Revolt quarantines to protect Diddy's money We quarantine to protect the health of ourselves And others
Starting point is 01:27:27 Revolt quarantines to protect Diddy's money Yeah Alright well thank you Revolt Everybody else the People's Choice Mix is up next I just want to say shout out to Atlanta Again you know I'm doing my car show Months away but Hopefully this will be taken care of before then
Starting point is 01:27:43 So I just want to say thank you, guys. You guys showed out, man. And I appreciate it. We're going to have a great car show. I'm talking it into existence because this will end shortly, I'm hoping. But anyway, the mix is up next. Get your request in. Let's go.
Starting point is 01:27:55 It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Now it's Women's History Month. Who are we repping today, Yee? Today we are representing a woman named Marie Van Britton Brown. She and her husband noticed that there was a lot of crime in their neighborhood in New York.
Starting point is 01:28:12 And police were very slow to respond. So what she did was they filed a patent. They did a household clothes security system with the TV and the camera at the front door. This was back in 1966 that this happened. So here is MSNBC's Seven Days of Genius segment talking about Marie Van Britten Brown. It's Women's History Month, and we're celebrating the most influential women in history.
Starting point is 01:28:37 Check out this phenomenal woman. Inspired by her personal security risk of coming home alone after working odd hours of the day and night as a nurse, she created an early closed-circuit television system to be used for home monitoring. Truly a first of its kind, her security system and its patent is the forerunner of all advanced home security technology in use today, making it safe for all to protect their homes. Her original invention was comprised of key poles, a motorized camera, monitors, a two-way microphone,
Starting point is 01:29:14 and a remote control operated door. The final element was an alarm button that could be pressed to connect to the police immediately. Recipient of a National Scientist Committee Award, Marie Van Britten Brown. Genius. And that was another phenomenal woman in history. Yeah, shout out to Marie Van Britten Brown,
Starting point is 01:29:38 a black woman who invented the TV closed circuit television security system. So today we use those systems. She got the patent for that back in 1966. Gotta love it. You have it, right? Yep. All right. When we come back, positive notes, don't move.
Starting point is 01:29:53 It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. EJ, Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are the Breakfast Club. Yeah, man. Things are crazy, bro. I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm starving right now because I didn't eat this morning because I refused
Starting point is 01:30:06 to order anything from any place. I'll just eat when I get home. And I don't know what to tell you. All I know is that this time last week we weren't in this position. So it's very... Should I say terrifying? It is very terrifying to know what we could possibly
Starting point is 01:30:22 be next Friday. There were a lot of people who weren't taking it seriously, acting like, oh, everybody's acting crazy for no reason. But just be careful. Take care of yourself. You never know who might get it. There's a lot of people who have it now that never thought it would happen to them. And just stay healthy, as healthy as possible. Keep washing your hands.
Starting point is 01:30:39 Keep making sure that you eat properly, have a lot of vitamin C, a lot of fruits, a lot of vegetables. Get your immune system going. And if you have anybody that's older that you have to look out for, just make sure you let them know, look, just stay away from people. And I know Joy Behar and the view she's actually staying home because she's 77 years old and she feels like she could be at risk. So just minimize the risk in any way you can. Yeah, I mean, listen, I was definitely one of those people, but that's America, right? Because we've never seen anything like this.
Starting point is 01:31:08 So we've been hit with so many different scares over the years, whether it was SARS, Ebola, Zika, all of these different things that have killed thousands of people. We never have truly been impacted by it. But, yeah, America, we really don't know where this is going. So we just have to lean into the uncertainty of it all. And that's my positive note for the weekend, man. My positive note for the weekend is simply this.
Starting point is 01:31:31 And I want you to remember this during this whole time. Real courage is moving forward when the outcome is uncertain. Breakfast club, bitches! Y'all finished or y'all done? Had enough of this country? Ever dreamt about starting your own? I planted the flag. This is mine.
Starting point is 01:31:49 I own this. It's surprisingly easy. 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete. Or maybe not. No country willingly gives up their territory. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets.
Starting point is 01:32:00 Listen to Escape from Zakistan. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-A-Stan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey guys, I'm Kate Max.
