Had enough of this country?
Ever dreamt about starting your own?
I planted the flag. This is mine. I own this.
It's surprisingly easy.
55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete.
Or maybe not.
No country willingly gives up their territory.
Oh my God.
What is that?
Bullets.
Listen to Escape from Zakistan.

After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast
Post Run High is all about. It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into
their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together.

Sleep tight, if you can.

We're going to learn how to become better allies to each other. So join us each Saturday for Civic Cipher on the iHeartRadio the Breakfast Club. I'm a blast off in your head.
Weekday mornings, 6 to 10.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God.
We are the Breakfast Club.
Yes.
We got a special guest in the building, Jay-Z.
Yeah, what's poppin'?
It's your boy, Young H-O.
We got our way.
Dean Edwards is here with us.
What's up?
What up?
What's up, man?
Dean, do you ever feel like Jay Pharoah kind of stole your thunder a little bit?
Nah, nah.
Here's the thing.
You know it's funny.
I knew you'd ask that, because people ask that all the time.
Nah, Jay came up a decade after me, you know what I mean?
And we both did SNL.
Fortunately for him, he came at a time when the tides at SNL had shifted and things were popping for someone like a Jay-Z.
Like when I was on, the thing people have to understand about Saturday Night Live is that things go to air based on currency.
What's current.
Jay didn't have anything.
There was no drama with Jay-Z and Beyonce back then.
You know, the most current thing I was able to get on was after Denzel and Halle Berry won the Oscars.
I wrote an update piece, and that splashed and hit and was hot.
But then also, the social media game wasn't on where it is now, whereas as soon as it airs, it's on Hulu.
And it's on Twitter and Worldstar, and everybody's blasting it. So I ain't got no problem with, like, respect whoever came first.
And Jay, I knew Jay like four or five years.
We met Charlie Murphy, had been touring with Jay, sort of like helped him out.
And so I met him, and I know he looked up to me back then.
So as soon as he got SNL, I was one of the first people to hit him and say,
yo, congrats, you know, get your head right because it's a tough situation, you know.
And the show's been on 40 years, and everybody that gets on the show has the same story.
I was talking to Michael Shea, who's a funny comic, and he's a writer on the show now.
And, you know, with the issue of the new sisters
coming in. They had two black women.
Well, they had three. Oh, three.
They had one as an actress and
two as writers.
They went overboard.
Well, yeah, they were like, you know, we're gonna make sure.
We don't have no black women.
We're gonna make sure.
I think two of the sisters have very ethnic names, like Sahir or Sahir.
And one of them got ethnic hair.
Yeah, yeah.
I feel like it's stupid.
They said, you know, Lauren was like, you know what?
We're going to make sure people knew that we want the darkies here.
But it's good for all of them because it sort of
spreads out the attention
to all three of them as opposed to
just one sister, because the show
is hard to begin with.
If you white, whatever, if you white,
black, whatever, if you Native American, Indie,
you get on that show, you audition
for the show you booked every
week, you know, and so it's
a mind game.
I was in the military, so I was straight.
I was able to, and Tracy Morgan laid it down when I first got there.
He was like, listen, there are a lot of people
you're going to have to watch out for.
They're landmines you got to watch out for
before you get here.
And he laid that out for me,
so that made it a little bit easier for me to slide in.
You do a great Denzel, by the way.
I appreciate you saying that.
You know, brother comes up here to Power 105, y'all move locations,
which I did not know.
Fortunately, I looked at the email before I got on the subway, you know,
to make sure I headed up because I would have been messed up if I wound up
up on 6th Avenue.
Well, now, Dean, I gave you the right address. No, you did, though.
So, fortunately...
I'm going to ask you for your address and not look at my ass for it.
You know, you get the text, and right before
I got on, I was like, let me make sure.
And I saw 32. I said, aight.
Now, let me answer your opinion on some things that are happening right now.
Justin Bieber. Bieber.
Egging his neighbor's house. He might
have to face some felony charges because
it cost $20,000 for them to fix it.
Well, you want to be around black people? Now you're going to
understand how it feels to be around black people.
Black people don't egg houses. No, I'm saying black people
don't egg houses, but black people do have
issues of getting
arrested and police going
overboard. Yeah, cops going overboard.
So now you want to be around us?
Now know how it feels. Absolutely.
You want to be around us? You're going to get treated Absolutely. You want to be a f***er, you're going to get treated like one too.
Word.
Like yesterday I was riding with this comic who's a retired detective.
I know what it's like to be white now, man, because he got pulled over.
Mark, he got pulled over and I saw the cops like, I'm black.
So I went into mode where my hands were upturned, You know, to make sure you ain't seen nothing black.
I'm like, nah, this is at least clear, you know.
And before the cop even got to the car, Mark did something with his hand out the window,
and they kept it moving.
And I was like, what just happened?
He said, oh, nah, man, they knew I was a cop.
I was like, yo, this is awesome.
Were you doing like an Illuminati thing? I don't know, but I was like, yo. this is awesome. Were you doing like an Illuminati thing?
I don't know.
But I was like, yo.
I said, what's that?
He said, he said, no, they realized I was a cop.
You know, he had something covering his license plate.
And I said, that's why they pulled you over?
But they let you go?
He's like, yeah, they know I'm a cop, so they let me keep it moving.
I said, yo, I know what it's like to be white for once in my life.
And he said, nah, you know what it's like to be a cop that's white.
You know, he said, there's different levels.
He said, there's levels to this.
I didn't even notice.
If a black guy would have done the same sign, they would have checked it anyway.
They would have tuned in.
Yeah, man.
Yeah.
All right, now let's talk about all these break babies.
There's been a phenomenon going on right now with Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade.
Yeah.
And obviously Ludacris and Roxy.
And now there's another Houston Texan football player, Arian Foster.
I just saw that picture last night.
20-year-old girl, she said that he tried to force her to have an abortion.
Now she's suing him, but she's clearly having the baby.
How you sue somebody for making a call or a text saying,
hey, look, you can have this, but I ain't going to be there.
You know?
Hey, man, the athletes as well as the females that lay down with them,
they got to know what they're getting themselves into.
And, hey, son, cover up.
You know, wrap it up.
Wrap it up.
Wrap it up.
Well, listen, if you watch Being Mary Jane,
you can see that you can actually take that sperm and preserve it.
Yeah, yeah.
See, I ain't watched it yet.
You ever had a girl try to trap it. Yeah, yeah. See, I ain't watched it yet. You ever had a girl try to trap you?
Yeah, yeah.
You know, comics don't get the same love as...
I was just about to say, yeah, but then I was like,
well, nah, comics don't really get that same depth because...
That groupie love?
They get groupie love, but you know what?
They get the, you're stupid.
And then they want you to...
They look at you and they're like, I like him.
Like, I can always tell when females are sort of in your grill after the show.
But I've gotten to the point now, especially because I look at the whole scenario.
I know dude done paid for a two drink minimum plus the cover charge.
So they done spent to come take your woman out to come see me.
That's like 100 plus.
Right. So they done spent to come take your woman out to come see me. That's like 100 plus, right? So usually when I see the women lining up to, you know, take pictures or just give a hug or whatever, I look past them.
And if I see that dude, I extend my hand to the dude first, like, hey, my man, thanks for coming out.
I don't want your lady.
You know, I'm just I appreciate you coming out.
And but women are women get scandalous.
They'll hug you and put their hands in erogenous zones anyway.
Yeah, I'm a man.
I ain't going to say stop that.
But I look at dude like, hey, man, why don't you get in this picture?
I do what I can for the next man because I don't want nobody mad at me.
So you want him to get in the picture too while his girl is filling you up?
Well, yeah.
You know, that way he can then check on it later.
So when you were younger, nobody ever tried to trap you?
No. When you was on SNL? No, no were younger, nobody ever tried to trap you? Nah.
When you was on SNL?
Nah, nah.
Well, because I've been married.
I'm Shawshank.
I'm Shawshank, man.
Shawshank.
Shawshank.
Oh, you got twins?
Nah, nah.
But they look, my daughters look exactly alike.
Two girls?
Yeah, 12 and 9.
Oh, you were definitely a hoe in the past life.
Yeah, yeah, at some point.
You know, it's coming, Charlamagne.
I got a daughter, too.
Oh, there you go. I was a hoe. Oh, there you go. He's a hoe in this life. We get blessed with the courage past life. Yeah, yeah, at some point. You know, it's coming, Charlamagne. I got a daughter, too. Oh, there you go.
I was a hoe.
Oh, there you go.
He's a hoe in this life.
We get blessed with the courage we got.
Yeah, yeah.
Hey, man, I already got the shotgun on layaway, so.
All right, now, I don't know if you saw this story,
but NBC associate producer Stacey Klein,
she was at the White House, and she Instagrammed a picture,
and she said, pretty decent day at the White House today.
The Miami Heat gave a POTUS jersey to the head honcho,
and I watched LeBron ask a girl for her number
right in front of me.
He just got married in September.
Ha ha!
Why'd she put him on blast?
Mind your business, girl.
Word! Was that inappropriate of her?
That was wild inappropriate. It's not a business.
Right. I can see it. It's one
thing if she's tight.
She's best with Savannah. Yeah, she don't know Savannah
from a bag of grits.
That's wild out of line.
That's wild.
I ain't know about that.
And we also don't know why LeBron might have said,
oh, let me get your information.
And that's the thing.
I'm wondering, did she see LeBron step to Shorty?
Like a White House.
Was it flirt mode?
I need your number.
Was it flirt mode?
Or was it, oh, you know what, let me get your number?
Because they might have had business.
And that's people got mind in business, man.
You ever got in trouble for something on Instagram that you didn't do?
Nah, you know what, because I keep it real PC.
Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, all of those social media for me,
I don't even have my family up.
Like people sometimes will say, well, how come you ain't got pictures of your family?
I'm like, because they didn't ask for it.
I signed up for this.
So when it comes to social media, I'm Batman.
You never have no girl leave some crazy comment under your picture.
Yeah, and your wife is going to, I mean, if she looks at them, she's going to say, yeah, that was.
My wife is OG status.
So she's real quick to say, yeah, that was. My wife is OG status, so she's real quick to say, yeah.
She does the subtle.
She's not going to say, what was.
You know, she ain't going to start with the hands.
So what was you.
You know, but she's going to say.
She'll say, yeah, so it's interesting.
These women saying, yeah, you were good last night.
I'm like, yo, what are y'all doing?
And usually when people make comments like that, I don't even.
I don't respond.
I don't put anything.
You don't delete them, though.
No, I don't delete them because I don't want people getting offended and saying, oh, why he got it?
Because people will misread and think you're trying to be fly.
You're like, no, I know I'm not putting myself in harm's way.
Right.
You was good last night.
You could be misconstrued.
Your wife could definitely take that out of context.
Yeah, man.
I had a show.
Yeah.
And I was performing show and I was performing
and I did a great job.
I killed it.
Shoot, the social media
for me is to keep track
of exactly where
I'm performing.
You know what I mean?
When I go on the road,
I make sure I tell people,
I'm like, yo,
take pictures, tag them.
Yeah.
And so you see the improv
or whatever comedy club
behind me.
I'm working the night.
You know, I'm on the road
in hustle mode.
You got a show this weekend, right?
Yeah, man.
We at Gotham.
We got this MLK weekend.
So we two shows tonight at Gotham, 830 and 1030.
Saturday, 8, 10, and 12.
Looking forward to it.
Last time I came, we had five shows, sold out three.
So I want to sell out all five.

you're going to dig what you see. Hit me up
on Instagram and Twitter at IamDeanEdwards
because that's who I am.

God wanted us to be on the mountaintop with the Breakfast Club.
I don't know if I'll make it there with you,
but I know y'all make it to Gotham Comedy Club this weekend.
I don't know if that was good or not.
I ain't never heard more than that.

They just throw them at me.
