Starting point is 00:01:47 Hello, hello, all my people, what's up? It's Questlove. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with the one and only ASAP Rocky. He reflects on his journey from Harlem Roots to Global Icon. status and discovering the hip hop origin of his name. The ledge was on the TV. Raq Kim had the bucket hat can go join on. Apostle. That's Raq Kim.
Starting point is 00:02:08 That's who you named after. I just like, damn, that fucking I swear. But listen to the Questlove show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. There is no question. There are problems in this country between police and community. Yes. You are a donkey.
Starting point is 00:02:35 The latest on that police killing of a black man. Now to new developments in the deadly spa shooting rampage. And yesterday it was a really bad day for him and this is what he did. And so we are in a state of emergency. Okay, white supremacist violence is, it always has been, the number one threat to our society. But I'm also very proud that my wife is white. The breakfast club, bitches. All right, Shorni, please tell me why was I your donkey of the day?
Starting point is 00:03:01 Well, donkey today for Tuesday, January. 827th goes the White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt, FBI Director Cash Patel, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Bill Ossaly, I think you pronounce his name. And every single conservative who all of a sudden seems like they don't believe in the Second Amendment, okay? What is the Second Amendment? Well, it's in that document. Nobody seems to care about anymore called the U.S. Constitution. And the Second Amendment protects the rights of the people to keep in bare arms. I am 2A all day. I absolutely believe in my right to keeping their arms, but I also believe in common sense gun reform. Okay, I don't feel that anyone
Starting point is 00:03:37 in America needs guns, decides a little Duvall, okay? And I think that's a rational way to look at this situation. But since the tragic murder of Alex Pretty, conservatives have not been being rational about this situation. In fact, critics yesterday were saying that the right is betraying their base on gun rights. Now, I was watching the Daily Show last night, and they had an amazing collage they put together of all of the conservatives just betraying their base on gun rights. Let's listen. When you are bearing arms and you are confronted by law enforcement, you are raising the risk of force being used against you.
Starting point is 00:04:15 You cannot bring a firearm loaded with multiple magazines to any sort of protest that you want. I don't know of any peaceful protester that shows up with a gun and ammunition rather than a sign. Don't let the left kid you with this, that this is just a normal protest. Peaceful protesters don't have nine millimeter weapons with two extra magazines. I am sorry that this gentleman is dead, but he did bring a nine millimeter semi-automatic weapon with two cartridges to what was supposed to be a peaceful protest. Lord have mercy, that was our Treasury Secretary Scott Bacent. Listen, in a world where Kyle Rittenhouse was held as a hero after bringing a gun to a protest and ended up killing two people, Now conservatives are asking who brings a gun to a protest.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Caroline Levitt said yesterday that any gun owner knows that carrying a gun raises the assumption of risk and the risk of force being used against you during interactions with law enforcement. Gun owners, did y'all know that? Envi, did you know that? I didn't know that. Okay. I didn't know that having a legal firearm that, you know, you have all your paperwork for raises the risk of law enforcement using force against you. By the way, Kyle Rittenhouse.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Yesterday tweeted and I quote, okay, Kyle Rinnhouse, okay, tweeted yesterday and I quote, carry everywhere, period. It is your right. Hashtag shall not be infringed. Listen, gun right groups blasted the Trump administration yesterday. The NRA had something to say. Let's go to CBS News for the report, please. The killing of Alex Prettie has raised concerns among a group of Americans not known for criticizing the Trump administration, advocates for the Second Amendment. The federal government says part of the reason he was killed is because he had a gun.
Starting point is 00:06:02 But Pready was licensed to carry, and the video shows that the weapon stayed in his waistband. One Trump administration official said online, quote, If you approach law enforcement with a gun, there is a high likelihood they will be legally justified in shooting you. Here is the NRA's response. Responsible public voices should be awaiting a full investigation, not making generalizations and demonizing law-abiding citizens. The NRA said responsible public voices should be awaiting a full investigation, not making generalizations in demonizing law-abiding citizens. That was the NRA. And I agree with them, okay?
Starting point is 00:06:41 Gun owners for America said in a statement that its leaders condemn the untoward comments by people like Bill Acelli. I think I'm pronouncing that right. Who put on X. No, I know I'm not pronouncing that right. But he put on X. If you approach law enforcement with a gun, there is a high likelihood. they will be legally justified in shooting you. No, okay, having a gun on your person in an open carry state
Starting point is 00:07:03 and having a permit for it doesn't mean you should be killed. Stop this madness. All right, gun owners of America said in response to him, federal agents are not highly likely to be legally justified in shooting concealed carry licensees who approach while lawfully carrying a firearm. The Second Amendment protects Americans' right to bear arms while protesting a right the federal government must not infringe upon. This goes back to what I said to you all yesterday.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Authoritarian regimes are not sustainable. Okay, the people will always revolt, especially in a country like America. The land of the free, all right? They call it the land of the free because of the values that this country upholds. Now, we know all freedom hasn't been created equal in this country, but the freedoms we do have. We don't want them infringed upon by the government. And yesterday, I told you, I told you, the Nazis ultimately lost what I was simply saying in a very me way was political movements that normalized anti-democratic behavior
Starting point is 00:08:02 eventually face legal, cultural, and institutional pushback. Okay? That's just a historically accurate statement. Okay, I don't care if it was McCarthyism. That collapsed and became toxic, segregationist, politics became socially radioactive, Nixon era abuses, reshaped epic laws and oversight. The demagification of America is a pun. I repeat the demagification of America is upon us, and it's going to be fun to watch.
Starting point is 00:08:33 So please give all those conservatives who have betrayed their base on gun rights, the biggest he is. All right. Yes, indeed. Well, thank you for that donkey today. Yes, ma'am. Now, let's open up the phone lines. We were talking behind us, behind the scenes. I don't know where Lauren just went.
Starting point is 00:08:51 We were talking about Kanye apologized to the black community and the Jewish community. What does forgiveness look like? Well, I mean, should people forgive? We're not God? I mean, I'm just saying, but should people forgive? Should he just, you know, write this letter and say thank you and should... Who are people? There's no Jewish people in the room.
Starting point is 00:09:10 We can speak for ourselves. We're black people as well, and I'm sure Jewish people do listen. A lot of black people mad at them. But like when you say forgiveness, right, like, does that mean, what, buying his albums again? Or like, listening to his albums or going to his shows or... Yeah. I don't know what that means. Do we forgive him?
Starting point is 00:09:25 Support him. Who stops? Who stopped, though? I never stopped listening to music. Kanye had a number one album last time he dropped. People still wear sneakers. Yep, I do. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:37 I still listen to his music. So what are you talking about? I openly love Kanye. He publicly support you. I want Kanye to be mentally and emotionally healthy. That's what I want. I don't care about anything else. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:09:48 When I see a brother that clearly we all watched, you know, struggling with some type of mental and emotional issues, when I see him, you know, get quiet for a year. and then, you know, pop out and people that have seen him and have talked to him have said he's in a better space, a better head space.
Starting point is 00:10:02 That's what I hope for the brother. So I'm never going to be against that. Yeah, well, let's open up the phone line. Let's discuss. 800-585-105-1. You heard his apology. And I guess, what, the ADL came back with pretty much saying, show us.
Starting point is 00:10:14 So, yeah. Don't you say. The best apology is change behavior. Absolutely. Don't just tell us, show us. We want to see you do better. Let's discuss. 800-58-105-101 is the breakfast club.
