Starting point is 00:00:46 500 pounds of concrete. Or maybe not. No country willingly gives up their territory. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Listen to Escape from Zaka Stan. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-A-S-T-A-N on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I forgive myself. It's okay. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best, and you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, y'all. Niminy here. I'm the host of a brand new history podcast for kids
Starting point is 00:01:42 and families called Historical Records. Executive produced by Questlove, The Story Pirates, and John Glickman, Historical Records brings history to life through hip-hop. Flash, slam, another one gone. Bash, bam, another one gone. The crack of the bat and another one gone.
Starting point is 00:02:02 The tip of the cap, there's another one gone. Each episode is about a different, inspiring figure from history. Like this one about Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old girl in Alabama who refused to give up her seat on the city bus nine whole months before Rosa Parks did the same thing. Check it. And it began with me. Did you know, did you know? I wouldn't give up my seat.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Nine months before Rosa, it was called a woman. Get the kids in your life excited about history by tuning in to Historical Records. Because in order to make history, you have to make some noise. Listen to Historical Records on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. It's time for Donkey of the Day. I'm a Democrat, so being donkey of the day is a little bit of a mixed place but like a donkey
Starting point is 00:03:27 now i've been called a lot in my 23 years that donkey of the day is a new one hey donkey of the day first one for 2023 okay uh donkey of the day for monday january 9th goes to the pitchberg stealers now i've been disconnected uh from the internet because i've been busy just Birth one for 2023, okay? Donkey of the Day for Monday, January 9th goes to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, I've been disconnected from the internet because I've been busy just living life. But this morning, my producers put me on to the fact that it's been some online outrage over the Steelers players celebrating a sack with their traditional CPR simulation. Have you seen this, Envy? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Yeah. People are upset because days after the incident that happened to DeMar Hamlin, they still was doing this celebration. Now, I'm highly aware of how overly sensitive people, okay? I'm highly aware of how overly sensitive people are nowadays, okay? There's folks right now waking up, turning on the radio, going on social media, waiting to be triggered by something okay it's their whole reason for breathing all right and those types of people that type of energy
Starting point is 00:04:29 we can't give oxygen to in 2023 because a lot of it is just noise all right it's a distraction but this right here i think is worth a conversation and i do want to use this opportunity to teach and encourage everyone to do something that we don't do a lot of nowadays and that's read the room okay i have a theory about room reading that i will be exploring in my new uh book yes book three is on the way but the theory is folks can't read the room because there's too many rooms it's too many people talking it's too much noise and a lot of people aren't thinking for themselves okay they literally are getting on social media and waiting to see, you know, how to feel about things. So the room reading isn't really happening because it's too many rooms to read. And this situation right here is one where everyone in the Pittsburgh Steelers organization hasn't read any room.
Starting point is 00:05:20 OK, now I understand the Steelers do this celebration all the time. I get it it but as soon as folks saw what happened with the Mara Hamlin last week someone should have said hey hey the CPR celebration cut that nix that eliminate it okay suspend it until next season all right you had to know in this hypersensitive era where folks are looking to be triggered that wasn't going to go over well and what kills me about these types of situations is that there's too many people involved so you telling me that nobody not one person in the organization said look let's not do the cpr simulation celebration for the rest of the season in light of the
Starting point is 00:05:56 circumstances okay this is the same thing with skip bayless it's not that what skip said was insensitive it was poor timing because yes at point, folks was going to have to discuss what happens with this game. Okay? The Bills-Bingles game. But not right now. All right? This CPR celebration is fine any other time. But not right now.
Starting point is 00:06:17 Okay? And in 2023, what I want us to practice, you know, is not just reading the room. But can we just have more awareness of others? All right. It doesn't matter what you do all the time. It doesn't matter how you do things. Okay. Every day at certain points, we have to adjust. All right. We have to learn to pivot. All right. Especially when it comes to other people. All right. And that's the problem. Folks only want to be fluid. It seems like in 2023, it comes to sexuality, we have to be fluid with everything. All right. Be like water. We have to be formless. OK, we shouldn't allow ourselves to be trapped in any certain mindset.
Starting point is 00:06:54 A person should be able to adapt to certain situations. OK, you got to grow. You got to change. That's how you adopt the qualities of water. In fact, Bruce Lee can explain it better than me. Listen. Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. Now, you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.
Starting point is 00:07:24 2023, learn to be water, my friends. Be formless. Just because you've been doing something a certain way, doesn't mean you have to always do it a certain way. Please give the Pittsburgh Steelers the biggest E.R. Now, am I off with this, Envy? What do you think? Nah, I don't think they were mocking the situation, but it was it was tone deaf. It was classless.
Starting point is 00:07:48 It was stupid. Yeah. Yeah. I know they weren't mocking it. I know they weren't mocking. It was very dumb. I don't even think I wouldn't even call it classless. I just think that they're used to doing it all the time.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Yeah. But like you said, it just happened. That's right. We were all saying three. We have the number three on our jerseys. We have number three on our T-shirts. And then you do that. It's the number three on our jerseys. We have number three on our t-shirts and then you do that it's just stupid and silly.
Starting point is 00:08:06 You gotta read the room and you have to be like water. Just come up with another celebration. Right. You know, for the rest of the season
Starting point is 00:08:14 in light of the circumstances. Nah. Now, what are we gonna talk about now? You gonna talk about your nose job or something else? I don't have a nose job.
Starting point is 00:08:21 And we got a nose job over the holidays y'all so if you're wondering why he sounds you know, like Michael Jackson. Hi, this is Elmo's world. Yeah, Elmo's very happy to see you. Bye, Eric.
Starting point is 00:08:34 For what? It's live. All right. No. Elmo Jackson. If you're wondering why Envy sounds like Elmo Jackson, it's because he got a nose job. It looks good, though. I didn't get a nose job.
Starting point is 00:08:42 I had polyps in my nose. My wife said I was snoring a lot i went to the doctor because i was scared that i would have sleep apnea or something like that they said i had polyps they thought it was going to be a 20 minute procedure wound up being a two hour procedure where they uh took all the polyps out and now i can smell alaska from here i can breathe a lot i'm not nasally alaska smell like cold you did it good too though because you waited during the holiday break you knew we have four weeks off that's what a lot of people don't do you know i mean a lot of people like to
Starting point is 00:09:08 get bbls in the middle of the year when they still got to be at work it was not that type of surgery i didn't touch my nose like that they went inside the nose shaved off right here no i didn't get anything there's nothing shaved off and i couldn't travel because you can't travel with it uh you can't be around places where they smoke whether it's hookah cigarettes or weed so i couldn't be in a club so i was home for the last three weeks and they say you probably heal in two weeks no job in the cheek fillers is enough don't do it oh my goodness all right but anyway let's open up the phone lines 800-585-1051 we're talking about gabrielle union she's talking about her previous relationship to former nfl player chris howard and this is what she said. Keeping up with his activities.
Starting point is 00:09:46 And I was like, oh, that's what you're doing? Oh, you're going to feel this one. And I just felt entitled to it as well. I was paying all the bills. I was working my ass off. And I felt like that's what comes, the spoils of riches. And like my dad before me, whoever has the most gets to do whatever the hell they want,
Starting point is 00:10:05 is what I thought. Yes, yes, yes, yes. And it was just dysfunctional from day one. Yeah. So we're asking 800-585-1051. If you pay the bills in a relationship, can you do whatever the F you want? Can we start talking about toxic femininity in 2023? I'm tired of women acting like they don't think just like men do. My God.
Starting point is 00:10:24 800-585-1051 Is there any truth to this? If you pay the bills in a relationship Can you do what you want to do? Is it your place? You can say whatever you want to say You can do whatever you want to do You can buy whatever you want to buy
Starting point is 00:10:36 It's your decision Let's talk about it All we about to hear from is a bunch of people in toxic relationships There ain't no healthy relationship functioning like this But we'll discuss Let's discuss It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
