Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed.
And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place.
I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit, season two, is about both of those things.
As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority black city in which there were more homages to instillade.
than they were to enslave people.

Every family has its secrets.
But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life?
That is not the look of an innocent man.
Is everyone lying to me about who they are?
I felt such desperation.
I felt it was what I had to do.

You know if you don't lie about that, right?
Lauren came in hot.
Hey, y'all, what's up? It's Lauren La Rosa, and this is another episode of the latest with Lauren LaRosa.
This is your daily dig on all things, pop culture, entertainment news, and all of the comments.
conversations that shake the room, baby.
So we always kick off the show with a behind the scenes of the grind checking.
My lowriders who have been here and are not new here, y'all know this is how we do.
For everyone who was just tuning in for the very first time on this episode,
the behind the scenes of the grind check-in is where we really take a second to see how we're doing.
Like really check in on how we're feeling because when you bobbing, weaving, moving, shaking,
grinding, hustling, whatever you call it.
You don't take the time to do that.
pretty often. I know I don't, so I built it into this show so that I could intentionally
take the time to do that daily, so let's get into it.
So checking in behind the scenes of the grind today, I am ending the week feeling like I'm finally
in control of my week. A lot of times, I think the top of the week has the energy of like,
go, go, go, go, go. Oh, my God, everything's so urgent, everything's so urgent. And toward the
end of the week, it's like, okay, I'll get to it when I can and I'll prioritize. I'll figure it out.
But I think this week with starting on that high and, you know, things coming down to the
end of the week, I always try to look back on whatever feelings it is that I'm feeling about
anxiousness or not being in control of thing and figure out like why I was feeling that way
so that the next time that that feeling comes up, I know how to combat it. This week, I think I felt
like that number one because of a lack of sleep.
But I've been doing really good, okay?
I scheduled nap times all this week and I have been honoring myself with making
sure I stick to my nap time.
But also, I think, too, I've been letting the thought of like, FOMO creep in.
And I think FOMO was just fear of missing out.
People only talk about it in a sense of, like, partying or like not being able to or, you know,
not been able to do fun things.
because of like responsibilities or like adulthood or whatever.
FOMO creeps in the career building stage.
And I think this week for me, the FOMO was the fear of not completing something
by a certain time on other people's timelines.
I learned this week that I had to get better at setting boundaries about what is actually
feasible for me no matter how urgent it is to another person.
Let me explain.
So there are things that will come up, whether it's task or it's asked that people have of you,
whatever the case may be.
Something can be super urgent in a person's life because it just is.
And the priority of their life, their day was important to them what they have to do or lack of there of, right?
But it might not fit into your list of to-does and things and priorities the same way.
not that it's not important not that it shouldn't get done not that you won't get it done but there may be
other things that are more important that you have to prioritize in order to make sure that you as a whole are
okay somebody told me today that I have to be selfish in this this time period of my life and
I think coming to grips with that has been tough for me because just the word selfish itself
feels so dark. It feels so lonely. It feels so vindictive and manipulative. It just doesn't feel like
you're a good person when you're saying, hey, I'm selfish. But I think as you're building something
and as you're establishing yourself within any new space, arena, career, shoot, if you're a new mother,
new father, whatever the case may be, that's one boundary that you should set.
as you're even learning how to set boundaries is the ability to be a little bit of selfish
about yourself. So this week, I came out of this week understanding that I, I'm not okay
with being selfish about, about me. And to some extent on one hand, when it comes to just
being morally like a good person and being able to like look out for the people who love me,
look out for the people who I feel like even if it's not a love thing, right? Like even if it's not
family, friends, whatever. Just, you know, do good to people that are doing good to you. And
honestly like I've gotten to a point where now I feel like all right do good body
people who aren't good to you as well because you're rewarded for that you're not even
about the reward but I don't know I'm just you just I'm I'm just in such a blessed space right
now that that's just like where my mind is um but I don't think on the other hand being
selfish has to feel like the opposite of everything I just mentioned I think that being
selfish for yourself in terms of like understanding that like
it's okay to say no it's okay to say not right now it's okay to say i'm not capable of having this
conversation it's okay to say hey i think this relationship needs to end it's okay to say hey i think
this business idea this interview this story like all these it's okay to say no it's not for me
i've never been really good at that to a certain extent like for me it's like it has to get to
the extreme. And it's crazy, like, to even hear myself say this because I'm really blunt with certain
things. I'm very like, like, if I don't like it, I don't like it. If I don't want to do it,
I don't want to do it. But for some reason, when it comes to just certain things, career is one of
them. I think it's like a scarcity mindset, but it's also like a, if I'm being honest, I think
it gets a little people-pleasy too where I don't set the boundaries that I need to set. And then I
I find myself stretched really thin.
I find myself backed against the wall.
I find myself mad at people because of the position that I'm allowing them to put me in.
Just a ton of different thing.
So that was like an honest revelation this week as I was trying to catch up with my week
and catch up with all the things.
And, you know, we added Netflix live into our daily broadcast for the breakfast club.
So with that comes an extra meeting a day.
and more people to talk to three out a day
when I'm already burnt out
to a certain extent
because we talk all day long
so yeah it's like a push
you know how you're like you're trudging up that hill
and it's like once you get over the hump
you're going to be good it's going to be smooth sailing
I'm not I'm not over my hump yet
but I'm still trudging up the hill
so it's like I'm stepping over all these rocks
as I'm trudging and I'm learning things as I'm stepping
and this week I feel like I learned
physically because I was so drained physically
and like, you know, I was pushing through and performance at work and in personal life
because I wasn't doing well at being selfish, period.
And that's where I'm at.
And that's what I've realized this week.
So hope you guys are taking, you know, as the week winds down, I hope you guys are taking
some time to just think about like, you know, what this week has meant to you, what has
made you feel, why you felt that way and use it to move forward because I'm already putting
some things into position as I think about, all right.
like what do I need to be more selfish about that's going to be like my next journal entry is like
what do I need to be more selfish about and I was going to write what do I need to be more selfish
about and then write why but I don't even want to write why because I don't want to have to explain it
I'm going to write what I need to be more selfish about and how it's going to benefit me once I do it
I'm not approach it that way because I think by writing why I'm discounting my feelings and my
experience I know why.
I don't have to explain it.
I don't have to explain it to myself.
I don't have to make it make sense.
I just need to execute on it and set the boundary.
Be a little bit more selfish.
Well, speaking up being selfish, let's get on into the latest.

All right, y'all.
So the Knicks, the finals, the Spurs have been my life for the last couple of days.
If you guys are under a rock, I don't know how you didn't know that this was going on,
but the Knicks and the Spurs have been facing off game three, game four.
So there's been a lot of reporting that we've been doing on it over on the breakfast club.
But we're going to talk about it today for a second, only because one of our reports made it to page six.
And I was like, all right.
Like, speaking of being selfish a bit, one person who was not selfish for her time or her energy recently, Taylor Swift.
Now, I learned at the Grammys when Kendrick Lamar swept the Grammys,
right after not like us
and Taylor Swift was in the crowd singing
and having a good time
and was late I'm like okay baby girl
seemed like a good time
I learned then that she was not selfish
with her time and her experiences
and her appearances
she likes to go out and have a good time
I don't care how famous she is
Telters Swift did that at game four
of the Knicks and it has been
one of the talking points
of the evening of her being there
and is she a Knicks fan and all these things
now back in 2014
Taylor Swift talked about how
when she moved to New York, you know, she would go to the next games often.
And Ari Stademeyer, she was saying how him and his family, they were just so nice to her and so normal.
And she just, as a new celebrity here in New York, she just really appreciated and she admired it.
So it made her become a fan of the Nick.
So she's been a fan ever since.
She's not somebody that we see at the games all the time.
A few weeks ago, she was out at a game for Cleveland with.
Travis Kelsey. But this was different. She was at the next game. She's in the gear.
She's having a good time dancing, doing all the things. I saw some people saying that the next
one and were able to make that comeback from the, you know, they were down 29 points.
We're able to make that comeback because she was in the building and because Wu-Tang performed
that halftime, you know, all the things, right? But page six did a story on our reporting of
it over at the breakfast club because I don't think nobody dislikes Taylor Swift over the
I just think it's like a they're not Swifty they're not Taylor Swift fans I talk about
Taylor Swift because I admire how she's been able to build out her business she's smart I love
watching women be smart in business especially women in entertainment because this is such a hard
business to build out and sustain a career in and she's doing it at one of the highest levels
and she does it and makes it look very effortless but we just was joking around having a good
time and
page six picked up this report and
they say here's the here's the headline
Charlamine Nagar brutally
dissed Taylor Swift court side next appearance
get the F out of here
Charlomaine de God last shot at Taylor Swift
following the exuberant
experience or appearance at
Wednesday's NBA finals Knicks versus
Spurs showdown. Why is Tyler Swift a New York
Knicks fan? Breakfast
Club hosts wondered during Tuesday's radio
broadcast. How did this happen?
Co-host DJ Envy's
sarcastically chimed in.
You're from Reading, Pennsylvania.
Stay down there with the Philadelphia 76.
It's my jaw.
I've said to them multiple times,
I didn't even know Taylor Swift was from Pennsylvania,
but I'm not a Swithy.
I always knew her to claim Tennessee because that's where she grew up.
So she showed up at Game 4.
I told you guys she had on the, you know,
like a custom New York Knicks set up.
But the fact that she was out and about with her ex
at another game a few weeks ago, like,
even analysts were confused.
as to why Taylor Swift was there. And I know that she's been living in New York. I know that she's
been out and about in New York a lot more recently as there have been reports that she's planning
her wedding here. But people were wondering. I think it was honestly just like, you want something
to poke fun at. And that's what it was. But when I saw this headline, I'm like, yo, people will
make news out of anything. I'm people. People will make news out of anything because why is this a headline?
y'all when i tell y'all it was just we were joke it was just joking jokey jokey jokey like it wasn't
i was very surprised to see this on the front page of pay six like when i say surprise i mean
super surprised like they they aimed this article as if um charlemagne has like this like rivalry with taylor
swift i wouldn't be surprised if the swifties are in his comments at this point but i will say
it was pretty interesting watching her turn up at the game
and a little dancing she was doing with her home girls.
They're from a band.
Somebody tweeted me the name of the band if they're from
and I'm like,
it's so great to know that.
But the focus of the reporting wasn't them.
It was the fact that Taylor Swift was there.
I mean, they weren't dressed alike with her.
But yeah, I mean, people were saying that Taylor Swift was a good luck charm.
I know Jordan Wags, Wags, wife and girlfriends of sports.
I know Jordan Woods was as well.
Her lucky bag was in the building.
I wouldn't be mad to tell us to the top time at the next game.
I actually would love it because it gives the people who watch the games like me,
like I am not a big sports fan.
I don't have a team.
I don't follow sports.
When I watch sports or games like this, I'm watching for the pop culture stuff.
I'm watching to see what celebrities is there, what they doing, who they wit.
Man, look, yesterday, another part of the game that stood out to meet Carmelo and Anthony
in the midst of all of the Knicks conversation, there was a,
photo posted with him and a woman named Raquel who used to date another athlete.
The people think, the people think that he is now in a new relationship.
And I got quiet because I'm like, this would be the first real public relationship since Lala.
Even though we knew that there were other women, unfortunately, because some of them were coming
out while he was still dealing and ending things with Lala.
This would be the first actual public relationship that we've known of.
And it's been some years.
So I know that there's been relationships.
But, you know, if that photo was what we think it is,
they made it IG official following the next game.
You also got, I mean, Rihanna, ASEAP Rocky running around after the game.
And they outside until 4.30 a.m.
And I'm looking at what she's wearing.
And that's the type of stuff I watched the game for.
So I'm all here for Teleth Swift popping up.
I have nothing against her.
But it was funny to see her doing this little dance on the side of the,
on the side of the
on the sidelines
they call it
a celebrity row
I don't know
the things that we make news
sometimes I'd be like
all right y'all like we
we got to do a bit better
because when I saw this article
I literally was like there's no one
that our
segment became a front page news
conversation
just because
they didn't want to
let us reflect the game
but look I don't know
some of the craziest things and storylines are what people check into and speaking of
storylines.
So there are reports right now that Taylor Swift is supposed to be getting married at Madison
Square Garden.
I kind of understand.
And I had said on the breakfast club, like not on breakfast club, but we were preparing our
report behind the scenes.
And I said that I didn't think that this made sense.
But now that I've been going down this rabbit hole of Taylor Swift and her love for New York,
I kind of think it makes sense now.
because if she's such a big Knicks fan,
if she is such a big, I love New York person,
even though she is, you know, she's not from New York.
She moves here, right?
So she's a transplant.
Maybe in MSG is such a New York staple.
It's like the Empire State Building, right?
Maybe the wedding at MSG is because of how much love
to have passed for New York and for the city.
and Travis Kelsey once it because I'm thinking about like me like when I get married I always
wanted a destination wedding right but even if I were to choose a destination it would have to mean
something to me but I also am like you know my grandmother doesn't fly so I've always said
when I get married I want to do a very like traditional church wedding but make it fly like make it
cover of essence cover of vogue of course um but I want to do like a very like traditional church wedding because
I know how much that would mean to my family.
And it would mean a lot to like the little girl in me who grew up in these traditional
black churches who, like, it's just sacred, right?
So taking it back to something that really means a lot to me, maybe or something with
Taylor Swift and MSG that we just don't know.
Because even Dolan, James Dolan, who is one of the heads over there with the Knicks, right?
He talked about Teller Swift in the wedding.
I think there's more here than we're gambling, like, then we know.
And I'm going to figure it out because now I'm all up in the business.
Do you ever think about Lisa Kudrow in the comeback?
Because we do.

It's funny.

All right, now let's get, let's get,
back to Drusadora. Let's move on to the next story. So Drusadora, who's been going through a really
public divorce, a divorce that almost left her homeless, almost left her without a home when a judge
ordered her to evacuate the premises and then decided to stand down on that. The divorce has finally
been finalized. So that story actually broke a few days ago. The divorce finalized. She was
ordered to pay child support a little bit over $2,000 or a little bit over $2,200 to her ex-husband,
Ralph Pittman, as a part of the divorce judgment, because he was. He was a little bit over $2,000.
He was awarded full custody of their children.
But yeah, she's finally divorced.
So in a divorce doc, it came out that she makes around like $38,000 per month.
Now, so Drew Sador is on season 17 of Real House of Atlanta.
She is on the season along with Portia Williams, Cynthia Bailey, Pinky Cole of Sluddy Vegan, Kelly,
who is the owner of Mama Chicken and Waffle.
She's a newcomer.
Kay Michelle is also on the season.
and they've made some headlines recently.
Angela Oakley, Charles Oakley's wife.
Who else am I forgetting?
Shemia, my girl Shemia,
who was at one point best friends with Portia.
That's how we first met her on Real House of Atlanta.
But so her income was reported at $38,000 a month
compared to Rouse, which was $27,000 a month.
Now, when more details about her divorce came out,
it was revealed that she is making a little bit over
$26,000 per episode.
So she would have made a little bit over $465,000 just for season 17 of Real House of Atlanta.
Now, I saw some people talking S-H-I-T about this.
$20,000 an episode, I'm not mad at that.
I'm not mad at that at all.
Like, yes, she's been on for a few seasons.
Don't get me wrong.
Drew has been on Real House of Atlanta since season 13.
So now this is her fourth season.
so you would think that she would kind of be a little bit further along in the pay scale.
But she's not, I mean, Drew is, Drew, don't get, Drew is a, I'm, I feel like everything with the housewives, people always take it a shade when you're like, just being honest.
I'm a fan of Drew on the show.
I think Drew, at first I was like, I don't know if she should be on the show because, like, I didn't really under, like, outside of her marriage, I felt like the storyline kind of just like,
it wasn't really there.
It wasn't really existent at all, in my opinion.
Like, once we got through all the drama with her marriage, I was like, okay, now what?
But now I actually, I like Drew on the show.
I feel like Drew has also come a long way with, like,
understanding how to navigate tension with the girls and the clapbacks and all the things.
So some people are arguing that, like, she should be a lot further along to be four seasons in.
But I think that Real Housewives of Atlanta as a location, like as a franchise,
they've been struggling trying to figure out cast for a few years now.
The first season that Drew was on, if I remember correctly,
that was one of the first seasons where I remember they did all the big shakeups in the cast
because Nini was no longer coming back and then Cynthia Bailey was like there,
but then she kind of faded out and only wanted to be a friend of the show
because she's on the show now, but she's a friend of the show.
You know, she still has a big presence because she's an OG.
Kenya was on the show and then Kenya got suspended indefinitely.
from the show.
Like there was a lot of changes within her first couple seasons.
So there's a lot that like not only she had to prove, but the franchise itself had to
reproof because we were missing a lot of the OG girls and people and fans were very vocal
about that.
So I think I understand the sentiment of like people saying, oh, wow, she should be making more
by now in comparison to the other girls.
But then I also don't.
I feel like this is the first real season of Real House of Atlanta where the show is like
making headlines consistently people care and they're doing it without the OG girls on it without
a lot of them on it like you know Porsche carries a show but like now a lot of the new girls are
starting to get their own headlines and that's what I mean by like people caring people always will
care about real housewives Atlanta is the best of the franchise if you ask me um headlines will always
be there but I feel like this is the first real season where the new girls are carrying
headlines and not just like popping up in them real quick and and leaving like it's like
continue like every week you're seeing them trending every week you're seeing them in the news and
that matters because it draws the fans in for the next episodes right so there was a some
information circulate in um and it was a conversation about the highest earner peaks on her hostas
in Atlanta so um according to reports that one time me neat peaked and she was making
two million eight hundred and fifty thousand dollars per season during her final season
Candy Burrs reached up to $2,300,000 per season, making her one of the highest paid house rise of the franchise.
Kenya Moore has commanded salaries around $1 million to $1,500,000 in her peaks.
And they say this dipped to $500,000 during a contract renegotiation.
Portia Williams reached heights between $1,300,000 and $2 million per season at a peak of her tenure.
mind you though these are all women that they're naming that when I say like franchises on their back
like these this is the real housewives of Atlanta these women I just named it's a it's a different
game out here now in a reality TV streets it's a completely different game and that's why when
Portia went back to Real Housewives of Atlanta I was so happy I was happy for her because
Persia was always really smart even when she wasn't on Housewives about the move she
made and the business she was doing, but I knew that she would be the leader of the pack
because she's the OG girl.
She's doing it all right.
She's building business tremendously million dollar businesses at that.
Storylines be on point.
The look every time you see her is on point.
Like she is the essence of what a reality star is who then turns into a mogul from it.
And the other girls just have to get along and learn, like regardless if they want to
admit that or not.
but I was excited for that reason.
And I knew that it would have a trickle effect, right?
Like I knew that any of the other girls that were going to be on the show and step up
and actually start becoming a high earner, start getting the camera time, the storyline,
the headlines.
We're going to have to get in the game.
The look got to be together.
The clapbacks got to be together.
So it's like iron sharpens iron, basically.
And I think Drew is sharpening.
Like I think she is.
I think people should leave her alone about what she's making now.
because if you're watching the show, you know that, like, regardless of you love the storylines
all the time or not, she's on her way.
She is on her way in $22,000 per episode $465,000 a year.
That's a nice little bit of money, okay?
People are out here losing jobs.
So this is getting canceled.

Tammy was on basketball watch for some time. Let's take a listen.
Good morning.
I was down to the blog People's Place, and I saw that they had released some information about Drew Sodorah, who's on Real Housewives of Atlanta for divorce.
And I just wanted to say, I think it's unfortunate that so much information is public.
But what they were focusing on was her rate of pay.
and I think the reports were that she makes $26,000 an episode.
And so I'm nosy.
So I went to the comments.
And there were people saying, oh, my God, that's so low.
She ain't hardly making no money.
Who said that?
Because I'm about to tell y'all something.
when I started basketball wise, I think it was 2010, I was making $2,500 an episode.
I was still working my everyday job at Morgan Stanley, and I was flying down on the weekends
for $2,500 an episode.
Now, that's not what I made by the end of the show or whatever.
But I just want to say, it's not a lot of people that's making 26,000, okay, that are in the reality TV space.
And the real housewives, they get about 24, 26 episodes.
So when you do the math on that,
I just wanted to come on here and say,
Drew, in the event,
you were feeling minimized
or people were making you, you know, feel away.
Girl, get your paper.
Girl, get your coin.
Because mother was going for $2,500.
So there's that.
And this is exactly what I mean by people,
are crazy. I don't think people understand. I think people see the glit and the glam of television and they
get it real confused, real fast. Like, number one, almost any industry is a seniority-based game.
Like, you come in, man, look, I came into radio. I came into podcasting as a new kid in school.
Just to be able to make anything, to afford anything off of anything that you are new at is a
blessing in these industries. $2,500. $2.500.
an episode. I know people that are working
in entertainment and television
that are barely making that per episode.
I don't care how much earning
she got to go.
First of all, y'all are comparing her to girls
that when I say literally House Rise of Atlanta
is on their back, I mean, we need
to think them that we have the franchise
because baby they carry it.
Drew is not,
she will be fine.
She is developing. I'm trying to
If y'all don't see it, Pinky Cole was another one too that I was really like, I don't know if it makes sense for her to be on the show.
I kept saying, why did she decide to go on Housewives?
I'll be honest with y'all.
And I know she comes from the TV world so she knows what she's doing, but you can't fake the funk for too long on reality show TV because it'll get corny.
It'll get cheesy, especially in the Housewives world.
I'm not mad at Pinky Coe either.
Y'all be all in her business about money too.
The girl is maneuvering.
And I just hope Drew through all the mix and all the madness and people having conversations
about her money and the eviction and a divorce that she hears things like what Tammy has to
say and stays sento down because everybody has to start from somewhere.
Everybody has to start from somewhere.
Like literally.
And a start is better than nothing.
Some people ain't even got to start.
All their guys are in opinion in the comments.
I'm Lauren the Rosa.

Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is,
getting a racist statue removed.
And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is,
getting a new one put up in its place.
I'm Akela Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 is about both of those things.
As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority black city in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslave people.
