Hey there. This is Josh from Stuff You Should Know with a message that could change your life. The Stuff You Should Know Think Spring podcast playlist is available now. I'm a homeguard that knows a little bit about everything and everybody. Give me that excuse?
Starting point is 00:03:01 I don't know if you're going to lie about that, right? Lauren came in. Hey, y'all, what's up? It's Lauren La Rosa, and this is the latest with Lauren the This is your daily dig on all things pop culture, entertainment news, and all of the conversations that shake the room, baby. So today, guys, here on the latest, we are definitely going to start with the behind the scenes of the grind check-in. Back on the grind. I'm so excited because I brought you guys some audio from the Cordy Beat concert, her second sold-out night at Madison Square Garden.
Starting point is 00:03:35 And I have a little audio bonus for you guys. If you're listening to this episode, I want you guys to then go check for the episode to follow this one, the day after. And normally, I don't even do episodes on the weekends, but I want you guys to really experience this concert with us. It has to feel good. Like, it has to feel good to be back home, selling out the garden. Like, it's like the ultimate return to where you're from. And this is not, you know, Cardi's like first return home, first concert home, those type of things. But every time has to feel good.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Like, there's no way it can't. I was watching her original show, not original show, but her first night at Madison Square Garden, the night before last. And the opening scene where she comes out and there's smoke and it's, you know, she's walking slow. And she's just very powerful. I was like, man, I can't imagine how she feels. But at that moment, I wanted to feel how she felt. And not even because it's like, you know, there's all these people screaming and like the celebrity. celebrity of it all, but more so just like, oh, I did this.
Starting point is 00:04:43 Like my purpose, my intention, my passion, all of that, my ups, my downs. We've seen Cardi go through a lot publicly, have all that hurt to this moment. Now let's get on into the latest. Speaking to Cardi B, it was announced this week that Cardi B's music will now be studied at Howard University. And it's not just her music per se. It is the album rollout that Cardi B did for her studio album and my the drama, which is what she's on her Little Miss Drama tour touring right now,
Starting point is 00:05:15 and you know, some of her own music as well too. But the hip-hop studies majors at Howard University will get to dive into how she wrote out the project, how she, you know, targeted her market of her audience. The marketing course that it would be featured in is offered in partnership with the morning music. And it'll break down the strategy behind. and Cardi's Am I the Drama album campaign. Now, that album sold over 200,000 units in the first week alone,
Starting point is 00:05:42 just based off of pre-sales. You know, she added WAP on the project as well, too, which people, people was upset about it, but it's strategy. Wap's so crazy. It was never placed on any of her albums because she hadn't dropped an album in years. So all of this strategy will be a part of the 26th fall semester for the students of that course. Now, the Warner Music University page and Howard University's University of Fine Arts,
Starting point is 00:06:11 which is the Chabook-Bowsman College of Fine Arts program, posted this to their Instagram, and they said, The Cardi B, Am I the Drama, the art production, marketing, and cultural impact is here at the Howard University, and they opened up registration for the course. Now, the course is an elective course, and for those of you guys, for anybody that didn't go to college, an elective course is basically something that you can take on, not the side, because it still counts toward all of your credits that you need to graduate, but there are like main courses you have to take. So your math, your Englishes, your history courses. And then there are certain main courses you have to take with your major. So like, for instance, I was a marketing major, business administration major at Delaware State University. And my main courses that related to my major, I had a marketing class. I had a business development and strategy. class, but elective would have been something that I chose to take. So sometimes either the courses too that you can have more fun with that still counts towards your graduation. But I think that this is dope. I love when I see colleges do this because one of the things that I always felt
Starting point is 00:07:14 like was missing during the time when I was at Delaware State, and I know it's gotten a lot better now, I felt like being a marketing major, I was there from 2010 to 2014. And I felt like being a marketing major at Delaware State University then, which is an HBCU, I just felt like everything I was learning in real life as I was going out and doing all these creative and, you know, business-based internships. When I would come back to campus, everything was so, like, boxed in. Like, everything was like the basic ABC's one, two, threes of business and marketing and strategy and development. And I'm like, do y'all not see us creative kids over here that also want to run businesses that also want to, you know, be able to come into a brand or a business, figure out what they need and provide that.
Starting point is 00:08:00 Like, I always felt like that. And to be honest with y'all, and this is nothing I've never said before, I love my HBCU. But I feel like my teachers kind of gave me a hard time because they would give us assignments like, oh, go create a business and talk about how you're going to sell it. And then the person that you're going to sell it to when they acquire it, what is the basically like the franchise program that you're going to leave behind for them to follow? And I remember I made a magazine And I made the magazine both digital and print
Starting point is 00:08:30 Because I felt like For where I knew things were going Because Instagram was like the go-to for everything But this was before Shave Room on Instagram Ball Alert on Instagram I was like Anybody that picks up this business You're going to have to understand
Starting point is 00:08:43 Where Digital is going And I need to be a part of the franchise I remember my teacher telling me It was a great idea I scored well on the project But he was like you didn't follow instructions Because we can't look at this business because this isn't a real thing.
Starting point is 00:08:55 These types of businesses aren't tangible. This market, it's dying. So why create a, oh, I remember this like yesterday. Why, it was my senior year, why create a business in a dying market? Why focus on careers in a dying market? Lean more where business is growing, not dying. Imagine telling a senior in college that,
Starting point is 00:09:15 who was looking to go into the world and move to L.A. and working entertainment. So I love seeing these type of courses because I feel like it encourages, you know, kids to understand that. there are some ABC, one, two, three practices to all of this creative thing, all of the creative things that they're seeing people do, like becoming a music artist or, you know, even just exposes you to new jobs. Like, okay, so if I'm a student at Howard University and I'm looking
Starting point is 00:09:39 at Cardi's album rollout as, you know, a course in my class, that means I have to talk about everybody that helped her put this rollout together and actually execute it. So it's not just about the rap artist. It's not just about the music. It's about the team and the execution and the business and the actual structure and foundation of it, which I think really doesn't get talked about enough, especially to people who have these like big hoop dreams. So this is one of my favorite things to see. So that course will begin in the fall of 2026 and was announced, you know, via the Instagrams that we talked about.
Starting point is 00:10:16 And it'll be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays on the campus. Now, I'm not pretty sure if it's only offered to like full-time students at the, at Howard University or not, but maybe we can kind of like, see, maybe I can reach out and figure it out because this was so viral and Cardi's the type to reach out to the school and try and figure out how she can support it.
Starting point is 00:10:36 I feel like I know this course filled up. There's no way that there's more space after the announcement. Like, there's no way because it went so viral. So, yeah. IHart Radio is throwing it back. To the days of years. huge hits and unforgettable items.
Starting point is 00:10:56 A nonstop stream of the biggest and best. Drake, Rihanna, Beyonce, Katie Gaga, the weekend. And more. All your decade defining favorites all in one place. Hi, it's Katie Perry. Hey, it's Bruno Mars. This is Kesha. Find 2010's The Decade on the free Iheart radio app.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Preset the station so it's always one tap away. I'm Lori Siegel, a longtime tech journalist. And consider my new podcast, Mostly Human, your bridge to the future. Anyone can now be an entrepreneur, anyone can build an app, and it's very empowering. Each week, I'll speak to the people building that future, and we're going to break down what all of this innovation actually means for you. What I come to realize is that when people think that they're dating these AI companion, they're actually dating the companies that create this. We're experiencing one of the greatest tech accelerations in human history, and let's be honest, that can be messy. There's no playbook for what to do when an...
Starting point is 00:11:55 AI model hallucinates a story about you. But it's my belief that we should all benefit from this moment. Mostly Human will show you how. My goal is to give you the playbook, so you can benefit. The reason I say agency is because if we can give power back to people, then I think that's probably the best thing we can do for your mental health. Listen to Mostly Human on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to your favorite shows.
Starting point is 00:12:30 A silver 40 caliber handgun. was recovered at the scene. From IHeart podcasts and Best Case Studios, this is Rorschach, murder at City Hall. How could this have happened in City Hall? Somebody tell me that. Jeffrey, who did it? July 2003,
Starting point is 00:12:47 Councilman James E. Davis arrives at New York City Hall with a guest. Both men are carrying concealed weapons. And in less than 30 minutes, both of them will be dead. Everybody in the chambers docked. A shocking, public murder.
Starting point is 00:13:07 I scream, get down, get down. Those are shots. Those are shots. Get down. A charismatic politician. You know, he just bent the rules all the time. I still have a weapon. And I could shoot you.
Starting point is 00:13:20 And an outsider with a secret. He alleged he was a victim of flat down. That may or may not have been political. That may have been about sex. Listen to Rorschach, murder at City Hall, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In 2023, former bachelor star Clayton Eckerd found himself at the center of a paternity scandal. The family court hearings that followed revealed glaring inconsistencies in her story.
Starting point is 00:13:53 This began a years-long court battle to prove the truth. You doctored this particular test twice in so much, correct? I doctored the test ones. It took an army of internet detectives to crack the case. I wanted people to be able to see what their tax dollars were being used for. Sunlight's the greatest disinfected. They would uncover a disturbing pattern. Two more men who'd been through the same thing.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Greg, a lesbian, Michael Marantini. My mind was blown. I'm Stephanie Young. This is Love Trap. Laura, Scottsdale Police. As the season continues, Laura Owens finally faces consequences. Ladies and gentlemen,
Starting point is 00:14:30 breaking news at Americopa County as Laura Owens has been indicted on fraud charges. This isn't over until justice is served in Arizona. Listen to Love Trapped podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You know Roll Doll, the writer who thought up Willie Wonka, Matilda, and the BFG. But did you know he was also a spy? Was this before he wrote his stories? It must have been.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Our new podcast series, The Secret World of Roll Doll, is a wild journey through the hidden chapters of his extraordinary, controversial life. His job was literally to seduce the wives of powerful Americans. What? And he was really good at it. You probably won't believe it either. Okay, I don't think that's true. I'm telling you. The guy was a spy.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Did you know Dahl got cozy with the Roosevelt's? Played poker with Harry Truman and had a long affair with a congresswoman. And then he took his talents to Hollywood, where he worked alongside Walt Disney and Alfred Hitchcock before writing a hit James Bond film. How did this secret agent wind up as the most successful children's author ever? And what darkness from his covert past seeped into the stories we read as kids.
Starting point is 00:15:39 The true story is stranger than anything he ever wrote. Listen to the secret world of Roll Dahl on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Now, shifting gears a bit, you know, in the same vein of music artists, though, and young music artists who are figuring things out. Christian Combs, who is the son of Diddy, Sean Diddy Combs, there was a attempted home break-in to his home in Porter Ranch. Porter Ranch is a part of California that is, like, out the way.
Starting point is 00:16:07 So you have L.A., Los Angeles, that people will talk about in Hollywood, that people talk about Porter Ranch is probably about an hour from those places. But that is where a lot of the celebrities live and buy homes, like a lot of the celebrities, both young and old, because there's a bit of privacy. You also have Calabasas as well, too, which I know you guys have heard, like the Conyers and the Drake's rap about. Kind of similar. Very out-the-way private. Porter Ranch is not as exclusive, depending on where you are as Calabasas. but same gist. But earlier yesterday morning,
Starting point is 00:16:44 there were police that responded to Christians' home in Porter Ranch. And there was a phone call that was made to LAPD that Christian Combs and his girlfriend, Raven Tracy, who owns the active wear brand body by Raven. They got a phone call saying that there was a burglary hot prowlough. burglary hot prowl essentially just means that the suspect is actively trying to break into the home while the home owners are inside. Now, this went down 12.45 a.m. So imagine your home, you're in your bed, you're chilling, and you're hearing someone or your cameras or your alarms alert you that someone is trying to break in your home. Now, officers wrote down the report of the attempted burglary at the scene, but there's video circulating of tons of cops that swarmed to the scene once this call,
Starting point is 00:17:36 came in. And what they found was that there was an attempt to enter the, there was an attempt to enter the home through the rear door, but the suspects or suspects did not gain entry. Now, there was another person who was monitoring the surveillance video at the time that also separately called LAPD. Records show that Raven, Tracy, who owns Body Barraven, Christian Combs' girlfriend, owns this home. And she had posted on Instagram, and this is the scary thing about just, you know, what you can put and celebrate on Instagram. Once you have the followers and the platform, you don't even have to be a celebrity to be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:18:16 You could just be an influencer or influential enough where you have people that follow you enough to want to like, I don't know, just be envious or think you got something that they want. She had posted this home. I remember she posted it because it was in the midst of all of the like, diddy conversation, craziness. And there have been, you know, the allegations. There were some allegations made a good.
Starting point is 00:18:36 against Christian as well on the civil side. Nothing that he's been found guilty of, though. But she had posted it then, and she's been sticking by their family this whole trial. And Christian as well, too. I mean, it's her boyfriend. But, you know, sometimes, you know, she has a business that she owns. She has a brand of her own. And sometimes people separate themselves in the midst of that, but she did not.
Starting point is 00:18:55 When I was in court, I would see her in court, beautiful girl. I would see her in court with Christian. I remember one time I went and grabbed food after I left court just on like a lunch break. It was during the, I believe that was the bond. We were waiting to find out if Diddy was going to receive a bond. And we waited for hours. And I went to a local restaurant and saw them at the restaurant as well, too. So, you know, she held the family down, but she had posted on Instagram that she said,
Starting point is 00:19:25 we just bought our first home. And just posted a photo of the house, right? No address, no anything listed in this post that she put up. but still, and I don't know if, you know, because that post was so long ago, so I'm not trying to connect the two there, but I do remember that happening. And I don't even know if the people who attempted to break in knew whose home they were attempting to break in. Again, Porter Ranch, especially in certain areas, you know the people that live out there
Starting point is 00:19:53 have a certain type of, like, you know, living style, luxury, money, all of those things. So I don't know if anything is connected from one thing. to the other because there was there's a big gap of time in between but that's just scary though that and i always think about that like you know i'm a i like to share a lot i like to be very vulnerable i love to talk about my family and all of that but uh between this and you know savannah guthrie coming out and talking about you know everything with her mom and feeling like it was her fault i think so much more now about posting my family and you know and sometimes you're in the moment and you're happy you're excited and you talk about these moments
Starting point is 00:20:34 and it just doesn't connect about, you know, what could come after. But again, I don't know if any of this is connected. I'm making the connection because I only remember they even lived together because of her Instagram post. But yeah, so police responded that I know of as of now. No one has been taken into custody. But police are investigating. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:55 And I was back in August of 2024 that she posted that post about, you know, them moving into their first house together. So that's been some years now. So not, I don't, I doubt that that even connects there. But we'll find out. We'll reach out. We'll, we'll try and, you know, track this and follow this and get more information on what led to this. But happy that they're safe, though. Like, I can't imagine being home and somebody being trying to, somebody trying to get in my home. We also, too, don't know exactly who was home. We know that someone that, that occupies the house was in the home because of the way that the call came in, but we don't know which resident or residents were inside.
Starting point is 00:21:36 So there'll be some updates there. The newest tracks. Let's go. New music. And the next big thing. Always on the new music first. Your first place to hear it all. Because you're going to like it, love,
