Starting point is 00:02:31 or wherever you get your podcasts. Keep it on. Wake up, wake up, wake up! You guys really are like the hip-hop early morning, late night talk show. Breakfast Club is the most powerful, popular, urban radio show in America. Live from the Black Mothership in New York City, it's DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God. It's different, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:02:57 Like, y'all know what y'all talking about. Thank you, y'all. Be blessed, y'all. I love y'all. Collectively known as... Breakfast Club. Breakfast Club. Breakfast Club. Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:03:06 It's very, very, very, very deep. You guys are changing the entire scene. They're catching up on you. They might be watching the news, but you know, they're listening to the Breakfast Club. Who to go? Let's go. DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, and Charlamagne Tha God. Y'all are like a mega force.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Breakfast Club, that's how we get our days started Good morning USA Guess what day it is? Pump Day! And it's Valentine's Day. That's right. Valentine's Day. Good morning to all the lovers out there. How do you feel? That's right.
Starting point is 00:03:57 You know, if you're blessed to have a significant other, if you're blessed to have a partner, if you're blessed to have a wife, you know, a husband, whatever it is, give all praises due to God. Absolutely. Give all praises due to God, man. A lot of people alone. A lot of people are alone today. And, you know, it's your fault. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Why is it their fault? Because some of y'all don't have no Valentine's because you're a terrible person. Like, stop looking at others and thinking they the problem. The problem is you. Okay? You have done zero work on yourself. And your relationships that you have had don't work because you're not a good person and some of Y'all alone because you attract what you are and if you're not about nothing you're not gonna track nothing
Starting point is 00:04:32 Well, what about what about the people that are getting that negativity out their life? And they're doing the right thing, but they're significant others not and they decided to leave it alone Well, that's that's clear. It's just passage. So maybe next year Don't give up don't give up on it and don't project. I seen yesterday I went through my own comments because you know what? It was announced that I was pregnant. Yes, I am. Yes. And it was also my birthday. So that was two things I was that I'm actually excited about. But I went through my own comments because my comments is my comments, right? And what I want to say is how dare people be, you know,
Starting point is 00:05:11 they want me to be upset about being a second time mother with no ring. How dare you call my journey a situation? It's the difference between a situation and a journey. All right? Who says it's going to stop there? I need for people to not say normalize marriage before normalizing. They're not even sitting at home married.
Starting point is 00:05:31 You know what I'm saying? Please don't do that. That's normalized being happy and bringing life into the world, especially when populations try to be controlled so many different ways. Let's bring that. Let's uplift that. How about let's just bring love to the situation, you know? It's not a situation. It's a journey. That's right. It's bring that. Let's uplift that. How about let's just bring love to the situation, you know? It's not a situation, it's a journey.
Starting point is 00:05:48 It's a difference. It's a difference when you are in a situation and you're on a journey. I am going to be married. Believe that. Just like I said, I want a big family. And this ain't the last kid I'm going to have. Neither. Believe that. But I'm going to be a married wife with a bunch of kids because I said it
Starting point is 00:06:03 years and years before. They don't know how many times I could have been pregnant by somebody else and it didn't happen because I didn't want it to happen. That's right. But it's the difference between somebody that wants a baby with you and somebody that don't want a baby with you. That's the situation. I'm on a journey. And thank you. I'm happy. Well, congratulations, Jess.
Starting point is 00:06:18 And Chris, you better have a ring for Valentine's Day today. I'm not even requiring that. I know. I'm just even requiring that. I know. I'm just putting it out. I'm not requiring that. Don't do that to Chris. Because you don't know what his plans are. He might have plans.
Starting point is 00:06:30 I do know what his plans are. He don't know what his plans are. He don't want to marry Jess. Yes, he do want to marry me. But let's not even worry about that. Like I said, it's a journey. That's right. It's going to happen when it happens.
Starting point is 00:06:39 That's right. It's like my baby happened when it happened. And I'm happy because I want it. And it's here to stay. People are going to be sad about that for real. What? Crazy. That's crazy. I can't happy because I won it. And it's here to stay. People was upset about that for real. What? Crazy. I can't control the blog's comments.
Starting point is 00:06:48 That's where that stuff belongs. When it's my comments, believe me. I got a 20-year-old little sister. I pay. Vet through them. Yeah, block that. Block that. Block that.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Block that. Thank you. Me and my wife got married after our first child. She was like six. She was the ring bearer. That's nice. Amazing. My son happy.
Starting point is 00:07:07 There's no way to, there's no right way or wrong way to do it. Everybody has a different, as you said, journey. Yeah. So, but again, congratulations to Jess and Larry.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Thank you so much. Absolutely. Congratulations. Thank you. And let me, let me salute to everybody. I'm in Atlanta right now. They had their Tycoon weekend.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Jess, you would have loved this. Charlamagne, you would have loved this too. Listen to the performers. You had Chris Brown, Monica. You had Genuine. You had Tank. You had Mario. You had Missy.
Starting point is 00:07:34 You had Keef Sweat. You had Friday. You had, I'm trying to think who else. Oh my God. If you stop there, I'm good. It was one of the dopest shows ever. I DJed in between. Manny Fresh DJed in between as well.
Starting point is 00:07:49 It was just a dope R&B night. I seen T.I. last night. So many people were in that building last night. It was just dope. Now, what would I have loved about this? I mean, you named a lot of artists I like. A lot of DMV artists. He said Missy.
Starting point is 00:08:00 You like 90s R&B and 2000s R&B. But I don't like being around that many people. So I know that sounds like it was a crowded, crowded event. But you would have been on the side with everybody else. You wouldn't have been in that crowd. You don't know me, huh? I would have been crazy. You went to go see SZA.
Starting point is 00:08:14 You would have been all in there. It was a dope show. So, again, salute to Tycoon Weekend. They do a weekend once a year, and they do it in different cities. So this year was Atlanta, a DJ. It was just dope. Great vibes. Right. It starts Tuesday and then
Starting point is 00:08:28 they have something Wednesday, have something Thursday, something Friday. So they have something every night. It starts yesterday. Yeah, it started yesterday. And that's 50 Cent. 50 Cent is still doing that. Yeah, it's Ant and 50 Cent do that together. So salute to them. It was a great night. Alright, well let's get this show cracking. Killer Mike will be
Starting point is 00:08:44 joining us this morning. And Killer Mike got a valentine, an amazing valentine named Shea Bigger. Drop on a clues bomb for Shea Bigger. Absolutely. Okay, Killer Mike married a black woman. Most of his critics did not. We will talk about it. Alright, and we got Tezlin Figaro's front page news when we come back. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy,
Starting point is 00:09:00 Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Let's get in some front page news. Good morning, Tez. Good morning, DJ Envy. Good morning, Charlamagne Tha God, we are The Breakfast Club. Let's get in some front page news. Good morning, Tiz. Good morning, DJ Envy. Good morning, Charlamagne Tha God. Good morning, Jess Hilarious. And thank you for giving us that little speech this morning.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Talk that talk, girl. Oh, yeah. Good morning, Queen. Thank you so much. Let's normalize people minding their business. Let's go put that out. And you know, I see I can't even say minding business because I mind people's business all the time. I just make sure I know all the facts before minding somebody's business. But I don't tell people to watch their mouth.
Starting point is 00:09:30 I mean, I don't tell people to keep my name out of their mouth. Just watch it. Just know what you're talking about. Well, don't worry about it. I'll say it for you. Mind your business. You can have all the things, baby. The baby, the man, the bag, the career.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Can't nobody speak on how you're going to move but you. Thank you. Everybody mind their business. Thank you, boo. All right, well, let's start off with some quick sports salute to shaquille o'neal his jersey is retired by orlando magic this is the fourth team three nba teams and lsu his college team so salute to shaquille o'neal who else has been miami lakers orlando and lsu okay okay that's right yep so salute to shack all right now let's jump right into it. Let's talk about the House Republicans.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Yeah, for the first time ever, Homeland Security Secretary Mayor Orkus was impeached. First time this ever happened. Let's go to CBS for the report. On Capitol Hill, the House has voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. This is only the second time in American history the House has impeached a cabinet secretary. Republicans claim the Biden administration's handling of the border warrants removing Mayorkas from his post. Only three Republicans opposed the move. I don't even know what impeachment means anymore. What does that mean for him to be impeached? Because, you know, we saw Trump get impeached twice and nothing happened.
Starting point is 00:10:39 So what does this mean? Well, in this particular issue, this particular case, they did impeach in the House. But when it goes to the Senate, Charlemagne, that is controlled by the Democrats, it will more than likely be rejected. But this is pretty much, if we want to be honest about it, a statement that Republicans are making that is saying that, hey, there is a problem at the border. There is an immigration problem. And they are blaming this on him, saying that it is out of control. Speaker Mike Johnson said that he has fueled the worst border catastrophe in American history. So they take the blame on the Homeland Security Secretary saying that he needs to go. They said that the Biden administration has either gotten rid of policies that were in place under the Trump administration that were deterring migrants or that the Biden administration implemented policies of their own that have attracted migrants.
Starting point is 00:11:24 So this is more part of their campaign. They're saying we're willing to push the line all the way to the end, including impeaching the House secretary, the secretary for the problems with the border. But more than likely will not happen. It will be rejected once it goes to the Senate. Shouldn't it be the fault of the folks who won't vote for any type of border legislation? Of course it could be, but that would make too much logical sense. This is all about making a statement. Republicans are really serious about this, from the dropping off the migrants in various
Starting point is 00:11:56 cities, from we see what happened in Texas with literally putting up barbed wire and continuing to do that. So they're serious. They're running on this campaign of the migrants and anything they can draw attention to that. They can draw, you know, more conversation around that. This is what they're doing. And so they've they've certainly made history by doing this. But unfortunately, well, not unfortunately, but the reality is it probably won't go anywhere once it gets to the Senate. It's just interesting, though, because, you know, it's on both sides. Biden has presented some border legislation. Republicans didn't want to do it.
Starting point is 00:12:29 Republicans presented some border legislation months ago. Democrats didn't want to do it. So it's just like, when will they all get on the same page to actually fix the problem in America? How come America cannot fix problems? Well, it's all about scoring points. So it's all about when Democrats had the House and the Senate, they had an opportunity to fix the border. So Republicans are saying, no, we're not going to give you that win. I know it doesn't make sense. It's not
Starting point is 00:12:51 really helping the people, but it's all about scoring points. So they said, if you put, put Trump back in, they'll do it. So I think unfortunate side of politics, unfortunately. All right. Well, that is front page news. What are we talking about next hour? Yeah. You guys remember George Santos, who was expelled from his seat. Speaking of flipping seats back, they went back to Democrats. So New York Democrats have his seat. I'll tell you a little bit about that. And and also all the advertising dollars that were made from the Super Bowl. We've been talking about that all week, but all those dollars were made. But that is not stopping Paramount from laying off hundreds of people.
Starting point is 00:13:23 So I'll give you more of that at the top of the hour all right get it off your chest 800-585-1051 if you need to vent phone lines are wide open it's the breakfast club good morning the breakfast club this is your time to get it off your chest 800-585-1051 We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club Hello, who's this? This is Destiny from the 843 843, low country, what's happening? Good morning, good morning Good morning, Jess, Charlamagne, and DJ Andy Good morning, baby
Starting point is 00:13:57 I just want to wish everyone a happy Valentine's Day If you have someone, if you don't You know, take today to love on yourself because self-love is the most important. That's right. Yes, it is. And I also wanted to say, not pertaining to that, if you see something, please say something. Because this past weekend, I witnessed a young boy get hit by someone who just, it broke my heart. I stopped and I called the police. I don't care
Starting point is 00:14:25 what anyone says. I'm going to call the police when I see something like that. Because if that was my kid, I would want someone to do the same thing. Absolutely. She saw him do what? He got hit by a car, you said? Yeah, it was a young boy riding a bike. He flew in the air, landed on the car, and the car just kept
Starting point is 00:14:41 going. Oh, wow. Did they catch the person? No, I couldn't. They asked me if I saw the license plate, but they were going east to west, and I was going north to south. Where you was at in the whole country? I was in Florence.
Starting point is 00:14:55 Damn, Florence, come on now. We don't get down like that in South Carolina tonight. We got to do better. Lord have mercy. Well, I hope that baby is okay, and I'm glad that you come with this message. If you see something, say something for sure. Yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Well, y'all have a blessed day. You too. How can you even live with that on your conscience after doing that? Knowing you hit a child and you just keep going? And he landed on your car. That's crazy. You just kept going. Hello, who's this?
Starting point is 00:15:18 Yo, this is Chris. What's up, brother? Get it off your chest. Hey, good morning, man. I want to say happy Valentine's Day to y'all. Thank you, sir. I want to holler at Charlamagne. Hey, good morning, man. I want to say happy Valentine's Day to y'all. Thank you, sir. I want to holler at Charlamagne. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Hey, I was checking out your Brilliant Idiots podcast and y'all was, you and Glasses was on there discussing about hip-hop. Yep. If artists are hip-hop or not.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Yep. And I feel like, I feel both of y'all are fine, though, but I like how Glasses was explaining it, though. He was on point. Like, he was saying
Starting point is 00:15:44 some good points, man, because I'm from Florida and I look at Kodak and Ply or Trick Daddy, they hip-hop. They part of the culture. Absolutely. If you throw out Flo Rida, I wouldn't really say he hip-hop, because he's not explaining or giving
Starting point is 00:16:00 the way how we're living down here. That kind of defeats Glasses' point, though, because even if Florida music don't reflect that, Florida from the hood, you know that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know why we think just because we from the hood that we're all just one way.
Starting point is 00:16:14 There's so much diversity of thought in the slums we come from. Right, right. That's why I got what you said when you were saying about J. Cole and you were saying he could have been like a kid that wasn't outside like that, but he's still from the hood. That's right. So I get both of y'all's sides,
Starting point is 00:16:29 and I like those conversations, man. That was dope. Thank you, brother. I didn't want to talk about the bread, idiots, and glasses. You know what I'm saying? Y'all did y'all thing. Thank you, man.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Make sure you subscribe to Glasses Belong podcast and No Ceilings podcast on the Blackfeck iHeartRadio podcast network. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, hit us up now. It's The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:16:48 Good morning. The Breakfast Club. It's a new day. This is your time to get it off your chest. Wake up. Whether you're mad or blessed. It's time to get up and get something. Call up now.
Starting point is 00:17:02 800-585-1051. We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club. Hello, who's this? Brandon, calling from Virginia. Brandon, VA. What part of Virginia? I'm in Norfolk right now. Okay, 757.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Get it off your chest, brother. Hey, man, I was calling to congratulate you on your pregnancy. Thank you so much. Of course. And I was trying to shoot my photography shot, but apparently you already got a photographer, so now my heart's broken. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Yeah, I do have a photographer. You trying to do that maternity shoot? Yeah, man. Well, I appreciate you. I appreciate you shooting your shot for that. I do. Yeah, man. If anybody else out there needs a shot, follow me on Instagram.
Starting point is 00:17:42 B-E underscore U-H-M-U-S-E-D. Yes, sir. I'll do it all. Thank you so much. Hello, who's this? DJ Envy. What's up, man? This is Front Page O.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Front Page O. What up? Get it off your chest. Hey, Big Us, man. Breakfast Club. What's going on? Charlemagne, my lady. Huh?
Starting point is 00:18:02 Charlemagne, your lady. That's it. Charlemagne, the God and my and my lady no you didn't say hey words matter bro how you doing good morning good morning good morning hey real quick man just um with the genius Kanye West man I think we got to stop tearing this brother down man because these folks are already doing that form and I'm upset with the fact that they know that everyone's afraid of this anti-Semitism garbage. But all I'm saying is this is a belief system. We're condemning this man over a belief system.
Starting point is 00:18:33 And you can stop his money like that? Like, this is our genius. This is our, well, you guys say he's a genius. But this is a black man, billionaire black man. And they're tearing him down, playing with the bank's money because of a belief system. I think it's terrible. We got to stop acting like we got to keep apologizing every time somebody says something anti-Semitic.
Starting point is 00:18:51 When they can talk about black people, no problem. Hey, I want to offer you something, right? Based off your logic, racism is a belief system. Sexism is a belief system. Like, what does that mean? Created by the system, not by us. What do you mean? Meaning we're witnesses on this whole planet.
Starting point is 00:19:08 So if a white person says something negative about a black person that's considered racist, we should just say, oh, that's their belief system. It's okay. No, that's the thing. See, this ain't even a black and white thing. This is a white on white thing that's my point the jews know that white folks are afraid to say the word anything about jewish folks this is what they deal with it's a belief system they took on a belief system we don't have to take it we already know who they are and all i'm saying is to make you
Starting point is 00:19:39 guys apologize because they control your money they cut check. And you guys can't say anything about them. If you mention it, it's blasphemy. It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. I think that everything that Kanye West has gone through is self-inflicted. I agree with you on that. I think the best way to not disturb your peace is to not disturb the peace of others. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Well, happy Valentine's Day, sir. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. Now, we got Jess with the mess when we come back. Yes, we do. We're talking about how Oklahoma, they opted not to play Beyonce's country music. And so, the Beehive stepped in, y'all. I'm going to tell y'all more about it.
Starting point is 00:20:19 All right. We'll get to that next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Good morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilaria, Charlam get to that next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilaria, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:20:30 That's the number one song in the country right there, Jack Harlow. Yep. Oh, really? Yes, it is. Number one song in the country on Billboard. The Whips and Chains? Whips and Chains. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 00:20:37 That is not the name of the song. It's Lovin' On Me. I just said The Whips and Chains song. That's what it's called. It's called Lovin' On Me. Lovin' On Me. Well, a white man telling y'all that he don't love no Whips and Chains is the number one song in the country. Damn it, man.
Starting point is 00:20:48 I know that's right, Jack. Well, let's get to Jess with the Mess. This is real. This is real. Jess Salinas. Jess Carabinero. Jess Don't Be No More. Jess is going to bring numbers.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Jess with the Mess. And this is real. On The Breakfast Club. I know they know the difference. Keep it a secret. In Oklahoma, radio station was targeted by the Beehive after an email was released showing that they did not plan to play these new country songs. The general manager at KYKC said he received an email asking if they would play Beyonce's new songs, the country ones. And he responded simply, we do not play Beyonce on KY's KC because she's not a country artist.
Starting point is 00:21:28 He defended his email by saying that pretty much they don't play anybody's, like, they don't play anybody's country music. I mean, they don't play anybody's music that's not a country artist, you know. But, of course, we know the Beehive going to their job they're gonna uh over investigate and they and they feel like these are country songs you get what i'm saying so he said this the station received over 2 000 emails and 1 000 calls over 1 000 calls from the beehive people accused him of being racist and all of that but he says the station is not racist we love be Beyonce, but that's for anybody. Like, if she's not a country artist, we won't play her music.
Starting point is 00:22:08 And then he also said that they don't play new music immediately anyway. They wait a few weeks to see how the record does. And also, they wait for a lot of the other larger stations in Oklahoma to play records before they do. Let's play a snippet of Texas Hold'em. I'm telling you, I'm not a big country music fan, but that gives country up and down. It does. Definitely country. It does.
Starting point is 00:22:33 Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired? Depressed? A little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine.
Starting point is 00:22:44 I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There are 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia.
Starting point is 00:22:59 Be part of a great colonial tradition. Why can't I create my own country? My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:23:14 What is that? Bullets. Bullet holes, yeah. We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Starting point is 00:23:32 podcasts. Hey guys, I'm Kate Max. I'm going to toss it over to the host of Historical Records, Nimany, to tell you all about it. Make sure you check it out. Hey, y'all. Nimany here. I'm the host of a brand new history podcast for kids and families called Historical Records. Historical Records brings history to life through hip-hop. Each episode is about a different inspiring figure from history. Like this one about Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old girl in Alabama
Starting point is 00:25:29 who refused to give up her seat on the city bus nine whole months before Rosa Parks did the same thing. Check it. And it began with me. Did you know, did you know? I wouldn't give up my seat. Nine months before Rosa It was called a moment Get the kids in your life excited about history
Starting point is 00:25:48 by tuning in to Historical Records. Because in order to make history, you have to make some noise. Listen to Historical Records on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Jacqueline Thomas, the host of a brand new Black Effect original series, Black Lit, the podcast for diving deep into the rich world of Black literature. From thought-provoking novels to powerful poetry, we'll explore the stories that shape our culture. Starting point is 00:26:59 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey there, I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist who studies human behavior. On my podcast, A Slight Change of Plans, I marry science and storytelling to better understand how to navigate the big changes in our lives. It was like a slow nightmare, you know, because every day you think, oh, surely tomorrow I'll be better. And I would dream of being better. At night, I would dream that my face was quote unquote normal or back to the way it was. And I'd wake up and there'd be no change. I also speak with scientists about how we can be more resilient in the face of change. You can think of the adolescent brain as like
Starting point is 00:27:42 the social R&D engine of our culture. That they're something that looks like risky and idiotic to us is maybe their way of creatively trying to solve the problem of having social success and fewer of the things that bring you social failure. Listen to A Slight Change of Plans on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. City stations are based on a genre, and they're not actually basing it off what the song sounds like.
Starting point is 00:28:09 They're basing it off who the artist is. That's happened plenty of times in hip-hop radio. Remember, there was... Lil Nas X. Lil Nas X. Remember, back in the day, there were certain Rihanna records they didn't play because Rihanna was considered a pop artist. So there were certain songs hip-hop and R&B stations wouldn't play,
Starting point is 00:28:26 and it was freaking Rihanna. Well, listen, the Beehive really got to them because they added one of Beyonce's country songs to the rotation. This was yesterday. By yesterday afternoon, it was being played. I remember, too, that Katy Perry record that Juicy J produced.
Starting point is 00:28:42 Oh, Dark Horse. Dark Horse. Even though that was a hip-hop and R&B sounding song, hip-hop and R&B didn't... It was pop. At first, they was like, nah, that's Katy Perry. We not playing that. I think eventually they started playing it.
Starting point is 00:28:53 They started playing it, yeah. Yeah, that was my jam, though. I ain't gonna lie. Tough tune. That was my jam. Also, it's important to note that Beyonce is the first black female artist to reach the top of Apple Music
Starting point is 00:29:04 U.S. country chart in history. She is also the first black female artist to reach the top of Apple Music US country chart in history. She is also the first black female artist to occupy the first and second position on the chart simultaneously. That's amazing. Keep breaking these records, B. I also want to add real quick, I saw on Variety, the blog, last night that they are calling her song country themed. That's like calling it a parody. Like country coded.
Starting point is 00:29:35 Yeah, yeah. It's country themed. It's just, it's country. Yeah. It's country. Stop acting like she ain't a country woman and she ain't been in her country bag. All right? So she can have albums and music in all genres. Stop acting like people can't do that she's from texas guys
Starting point is 00:29:49 like let's not forget she's from texas and people don't understand the history of black people in country music don't understand it that's why i said that's why we's getting that's why we're getting a country album and a rock album she hitting all them genres that they took from us i love it yes i love it brandon marshall says taylor Taylor Swift had Kanye removed from the Super Bowl. We got audio for it. Listen. Kanye West pulls up to Vegas. Kanye West pulls up to the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:30:13 Kanye West buys a ticket right in front of Katy Perry's booth. So anytime they were going to be showing Katy Perry, Kanye's face was going to be there. He had a mask on with his logo on a mask. Right. Did you say in front of Taylor's booth or Katy Perry, Kanye's face was going to be there. He had a mask on with his logo on a mask, right? Did you say in front of Taylor's booth or in front of Katy Perry's booth? Oh, my bad, my bad, my bad. Sorry, in front of Taylor Swift's booth. Taylor Swift's booth is pissed off. Sheep Boom Boom makes a call or two.
Starting point is 00:30:37 Everybody's involved. He gets kicked out the stadium. Dropping a Clues Bond for Brandon Marshall. You should always get famous white people mixed up for all the times they do it to us. I know, right? For all the times they do it to us, you have to do it. Brandon knew what he was doing. Salute to Brandon.
Starting point is 00:30:51 I know that's right, but I'm glad he did correct himself. We know Katie probably wouldn't have had a problem with Kanye sitting up there. But let's just be honest here. Taylor Swift, she didn't, that wouldn't be wrong. I think we would have seen it, though. I think we would have seen Kanye getting escorted out. Yeah, there's no such thing as that happened. And even if it was only five minutes, it wouldn't be everywhere.
Starting point is 00:31:17 The day and age of everybody having cameras, somebody would have taped that. Yes. Even if, like I said, if it were true, I wouldn't be mad at Taylor Swift for making that decision. You know what said if it were true i wouldn't be mad at taylor swift for making that decision you know what i'm saying like i just wouldn't be like years ago are we not forgetting that he you know stole her moment to give to beyonce you know what i mean that i don't care black white whatever you know what i'm saying like a moment like that and for him to do something so radical like that i mean she don't have that kind of power if kanye was in a box sure but if
Starting point is 00:31:45 you sitting in front of the box and I paid for a ticket and I'm in front of your box I mean she does have the power to do it but I don't think that I don't I think he got a case that you can't remove me I bought a ticket well then we had to go through that case cuz I'm gonna make calls to I'm gonna make calls to look I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm going to make calls, too. I'm going to make calls, too. I'm sorry, Kanye. I'm going to let you finish, but go sit over there. You're right. Or I'm leaving.
Starting point is 00:32:08 You know what I'm saying? We are debating something that didn't happen. That's true. There's no way this happened. All right. All right. It's a way that it happened. But anyway, according to TMZ, a rep for Kanye did say this is a completely fabricated rumor.
Starting point is 00:32:23 It is not true. So to your point, they did say that it wasn't true. But we have no way of knowing. I'm just saying if it did, I wouldn't be upset at Taylor's decision to get him removed. But it was the highest rated Super Bowl ever. Somebody would have saw Kanye. Yeah, who would have seen it? Somebody in the stands.
Starting point is 00:32:39 I told you. I thought, well, I am with him on the stage. I was going to say, oh, my God, Usher brought out Kanye. You stupid. You stupid. You stupid. You stupid. That director show Taylor Swift is a country artist too and you know we about to play Beyonce's new record right now absolutely she also got another one called 16 carriages which I think is a country ballad because she's singing her pipes out on
Starting point is 00:32:57 that one so y'all listen to both of them and can I say something else uh you know I have a book in print called Black Privileged Publishing with Simon & Schuster. You know, our next release on Black Privileged Publishing is titled My Black Country by Vanderbilt professor Alice Randall. Alice Randall was the first black woman to write a number one country hit. Yes. She wrote a song for Trisha Yearwood in 1994 called X's, X's, X's and O's, O's, O's. And she is putting out a book called My Black Country that tells the journey of America's black present, past, and future in country music. It's always a book. I know, that's right.
Starting point is 00:33:32 And it'll be out April 9th, but it's available for pre-order right now. And wow, she'll be up here for an interview soon, y'all, because she got a book. I know, that's right. You already know. All you gotta do is write a book. They actually did an article yesterday in the Washington Post talking about Beyonce's country journey, and Alice Randall was quoted all throughout the article so yes my black country will be out april 9th but you can pre-order it now i know that's via black privilege
Starting point is 00:33:51 publisher simon and schuster all right that's my book in print all right you said that all right we know you got went away my book coming uh do i need to write something about a country now that yet jess jesus well Well, I always do stuff prematurely. It is what it is. Guys. And now maybe I get some more money for the book. That's it. Guys.
Starting point is 00:34:09 That's how you do it. Guys, that's Jess with the mess. Now, when we come back, Jess Lynn Figaro will be joining us for Front Page News. And then Killer Mike will be here. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. You're checking out The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody.
Starting point is 00:34:22 It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha God. We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get in some front page news. All right, now let's talk about House GOPs. Well, good morning, everybody. Good morning, DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha God. Happy Valentine's Day. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:34:36 Good morning, Tiz. Well, Republicans, you guys remember that George Santos was put out of his seat. He was expelled, remember, for all those lies. lies well they had to have a special election for that and Republicans razor-thin majority in the house just became even slimmer Democrat Tom Suasu won the special election last night in New York's third congressional district again it was a Republican seat now it is Democrat and they've been able to move that over and flip that seat. He won and he said he wants to find bipartisan solutions. He said it's time to move forward past the petty partisanship,
Starting point is 00:35:10 which we hear all the time, but hopefully maybe he'll get some luck with that. He said he's tired of the bickering and the finger pointing. It's time to focus on how to solve problems. So this was a race that a lot of folks were watching. They were wanting to see if Republicans would be able to keep it, and they did not, but they still control the House house but this gives democrats just a little bit more power on in the house representatives all right now let's jump to paramount global they laid off 800 employees absolutely so we've had a lot of conversation this week people have talked about
Starting point is 00:35:37 all of the money that came in with advertising um big conversation and so i thought this story was important to envy because all of the money that they brought in still laid off 800 employees. So Paramount Global, the owner of the broadcast and cable TV networks, announced Tuesday it will lay off hundreds of staffers as the media giant looks to reduce costs and grow revenue. Now, this news comes days after the CBS network saw record breaking advertising sales at its highest rated telecast for the Super Bowl. Sources familiar say that it is about 800 people or roughly a 3% cut. Among those impacted were some of the highest profile journalists at CBS News. Now, the media giant is attempting to transition its business from traditional linear television to streaming, which a lot of people are doing that. And so it just announced that, you know, despite the fact of having one hundred and twenty three point four million viewers marking the largest U.S. audience since the 1969 moon landing, it still was not enough in order to keep those employees working.
Starting point is 00:36:35 So that was an interesting conversation as we talk about how much money came from the Super Bowl. Well, that's folks never knowing exactly what they're talking about, because, you know, they're're talking about all the money they made on the Super Bowl this Sunday. They didn't know what was going on with Paramount before. Paramount is almost $17 billion in debt. Jesus. That's why they've been trying to sell. You know what I'm saying? So, you know, you can't jump in the game, bottom of the knife
Starting point is 00:36:58 and be like, look at all the money they made in the Super Bowl, but they're going to lay off all the people. No. They're almost $17 billion in debt debt so this goes years years years years back yeah yeah one super bowl can that's why i've been all these rumors about them selling remember they was like uh byron island presented something for themselves and i think they said i think it was warner or somebody they was talking about them potentially merging with so yeah they're almost 17 billion dollars in debt y'all
Starting point is 00:37:25 somebody in debt like that that's like marrying somebody that you know in debt like nah my dad ate your debt right i'm cool on that well just as another point uh the news industry did see some cuts also um in 2024 and 2023 los angeles times time and business insider so um just a lot of layoffs in the industry but yeah i don't know that charlotte 17 billion is a lot that's almost impossible to recover but you know yeah i mean that's why honestly that's why it's been so hard to sell i guess a million different you know articles about it like people they ask that question all the time is there global debt getting in the way of a sale. I would have to say probably. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that is your front page news.
Starting point is 00:38:07 All right. Thank you, Tez. Thank you. Thank you. And make sure you follow at Tezlyn Figueroa on all social media platforms at Tezlyn Figueroa
Starting point is 00:38:14 and subscribe to her podcast, The Scraped Shot, No Chaser Podcast on the Black Effect iHeartRadio Podcast Network. All right. Now, when we come back, the Grammy Award winner,
Starting point is 00:38:22 Killer Mike, will be joining us and we're going to kick it with him next. So don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:38:30 Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club. We got a special guest in the building. Yes, indeed. Three times Grammy winner. This year. This year.
Starting point is 00:38:40 That's right. Ladies and gentlemen, Killer Mike. Hey. What's up? What's up? Listen, I don't think people understand, Mike, how you manifested all this from the beginning. Yeah. Before this album was even in the ecosystem, you were saying you was going to win Rap Album of the Year.
Starting point is 00:38:55 You said you wanted to win Rap Album of the Year at the Grammys. How long have you been a master manifester, sir? Man, you know what I'm saying? I've guessed since I was nine. I was nine years old. Wow. And I told Denise, who was 25 at the time, my mother, she had me when she was 16. I'll never forget.
Starting point is 00:39:10 I was like, Mom, I want to be an LC. And she was smoking a joint. And she said, f*** it. That was the mission. The next year, she sent me to the Fresh Fest at 10, me and my cousin. She just put her ass out on the corner of the Omni and said, here are your tickets. This is how you get in. And have your just put her ass out on the corner of the Omni and said, here are your tickets, this is how you get in and have your little asses back out on the corner
Starting point is 00:39:27 afterwards. And I remember me and my cousin went in and we were standing you know, she had her cheap seats and we're standing and we're watching fucking gold chains, all this while fights break out, bits and bits when they had the big sale, all kind of wild crazy shit. You know, when they had that actually like a briefcase sale, I'm just like
Starting point is 00:39:43 this is what I want to do with my life. And ever since then every step i've made has been toward being an mc but i will say every challenge i was given i accepted my fourth grade teacher she said you're too smart to be a rapper you should be a pilot i ended up with a guy named mr jim burto when i was 16 years old learning how to fly planes me and slim for 112 and that was based on the challenge so all that to say you can manifest whatever you want to but accept the challenges along the way yeah i met i met a little dude on a small radio station in south carolina and i remember the radio rep telling us how afraid they were of him they wouldn't even go in the room with him and then i got in the room with him he
Starting point is 00:40:19 was like he's one of my favorite rappers and the next thing you know i seen that dude on wendy waves next thing you know i I seen that dude on Wendy Williams. Next thing you know, I seen that dude just pushing that person ended up being Charlamagne Tha God, one of my better friends and brothers. I saw this comedian. She was funny as hell just doing skits. And I was gonna tell my pops like, now you gotta see this. She she fun as a mother. And now you co hosting. I remember seeing his baby. I ain't thinking much of him. Nah, I ain't. I'm lying. That's my, man, you just had my daddy call. I didn't mean to break your ball.
Starting point is 00:40:50 So I'm at the table with a bunch of manifestos, and I call them believers. You have to surround yourself with believers. You have to be inspired by people who are believers. So I guess since I was nine years old, if you tell yourself, whatever that child in you tells yourself, I think you should chase and follow. You know what's crazy? I remember that day like it was yesterday when you and Big Boy and the rest of the Purple Ribbon all came to the stage
Starting point is 00:41:12 because you walked in and you said, I like them Jordans. I had on some Jordans. I think some threes or something. Yeah. They might have been. Mine wore two probably at that time. At the time, Laffy Taffy had just came out, and I hadn't felt it in the script club yet.
Starting point is 00:41:24 So I was just hearing it. I was like, man, I don't like this record. I was like, man, this record whack. And you said, man, them boys will beat your ass. The way it's out. The way it's out. You can whoop your ass all right. For real.
Starting point is 00:41:34 I'll never forget that. Them boys from the hood. Shouts out to Fable. That's right. That's right. Them boys was from born home in Bankhead. That was for real. But, you know, I think Southerners, man, we know how to party, laugh, have a good time.
Starting point is 00:41:50 But it's a seriousness to us that I think people take for a game sometimes. I'm glad I got a chance to put Favo as entertaining he is on a real serious record. Something for junkies. So what does three Grammys mean to you, Kilimanjaro? Well, according to my agent, it meant 20,000 more per show. Okay. So the price did go up. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:42:10 According to me, though, it's a personal accomplishment because in the 50th year of hip-hop, I made the best possible representation of hip-hop albums. That's right. And it meant the world to me to do that because I was a kid who grew up in the South. Me and Charlamagne, hip-hop wasn't accessible. It wasn't, you know, you got to look at it like like that was no way you was gonna be where you are be where I
Starting point is 00:42:27 am it was just something you were voyeur if you weren't from say LA or New York so for me it means everything because it's all I've ever wanted to do all I wanted to be was considered a top tier MC and in the 50th year of hip-hop to have made the best hip-hop album means the world to me because nothing means more to me than this art form nothing means more to me than my artistic passion and pursuit of perfection through emceeing so it means the world to me and i think a lot of other people who have gotten it have either really appreciated like me or taken for granted that it's something that couldn't have happened i don't take any of it for granted did you feel a way that they didn't have your award ceremony on tv and the reason i ask is
Starting point is 00:43:03 you know it's funny we were just, me and Jess behind the scenes, and Usher did an interview with Gail, and he was like, I won eight Grammys, and every time I won a Grammy, it was never on television. I'm like, that's Usher. He just did the Super Bowl. You know what I mean? So does it feel bittersweet at all, or is it one of those things?
Starting point is 00:43:17 Nope, not at all. I mean, I wanted to be on TV, but if not, it's on YouTube. I don't have time. When it's good, if she give me some s*** on the plane, she ain't even on s***. I'm just like, you got to be grateful. You know, I wanted to be on TV. I want to be on TV. But how much complaining can I do in the moment?
Starting point is 00:43:37 When you sweep, when you win three. You get what I'm saying? At some point, the Grammy's going to be like, damn, we missed a moment. You know what I'm saying? But I would like us to be on TV. But we weren't on TV 20 years ago when I won. And I protested, and we took the tour bus to Sunset. We threw one of them L.A. ass drug groupie parties and wilded out and woke up the next
Starting point is 00:43:55 morning and nobody know where they were. So I always regretted not going, though. I ain't going to lie. So this time around, man, I was like, I ain't going to miss wearing no tuxedo and getting my girl in a nice dress and going out. And I had a good time. So I hate that it didn't get televised. But I'm very happy to have swept mine.
Starting point is 00:44:11 I still feel like it was some type of conspiracy. I feel like he was afraid of radical black Michael Renda and what he might get on that stage and say. Man, what's crazy is though, Jay was hitting me. I didn't realize that I was on as you know, as I was going through my thing, Jay was hitting me like, hold on, stick around. I want to toast you.
Starting point is 00:44:28 I want you to, and then he hit me later saying, I was going to concede my time to you. Somebody, I was going to ask you that. I said that during Donkey of the Day, but when I,
Starting point is 00:44:37 I said, I said during Donkey of the Day, it would have been dope to see Jay bring Mike up on stage, but then somebody hit me and said, that's what Jay was planning to do. Yeah, he was. Wow.
Starting point is 00:44:47 He was going to bring you up when he was accepting that war for the Dr. Dre thing. Yeah, yeah. Wow. It's love, though. I appreciate it. So you got that text after you got out? Yeah, yeah. I got out.
Starting point is 00:44:56 I got out. I got out. I got out. I got out. I got out. I got out. I got out. I got out.
Starting point is 00:44:56 Me and him laughing. He said, you wanted to go and get locked up in the biggest moment ever. I was laughing. It was hilarious, man. It was hilarious. You couldn't do nothing but laugh. How did that make you feel, Mike? Come on, now. Man, it makes me feel good. I got laughing. It was hilarious, man. It was hilarious. You couldn't do nothing but laugh. How did that make you feel, Mike? Come on now.
Starting point is 00:45:07 It makes me feel good. I got a lot of respect for Hope. I talk to him off camera. We go back and forth. He's constantly sending encouragement. I tell him, I'm a mentee. I need mentorship. I've never been in this part of it before,
Starting point is 00:45:20 so give me some advice. I just appreciate him. You know what I mean? I appreciate anybody who imparts some wisdom on me. he's been generous enough to do it a lot so i hate we missed that moment but there's more moments to come you know it is i mean listen i'm not gonna stress about what didn't happen but man can you imagine jay-z would have bought killer mike on that stage while he was accepting his award for the dr jay speech do you understand black history month come on do you even know what you was going to say?
Starting point is 00:45:45 No. God would have used me as a vessel. Did you really sell brooms? Yeah. Hell yeah, we made a lot of money, too. Shout out to Stax. Someone go buy me
Starting point is 00:45:54 another bracelet out of Miami, man. Shout out. I made a lot of money off them brooms. Oh, but y'all please keep complaining so these folks
Starting point is 00:46:01 keep shopping for shit. I didn't even know it worked like this. Shout out to the streamers and the youth, man. Y'all have taught me a lot like this. Shout out to the streamers and the youth, man. Y'all done taught me a lot, man. I know my man Kyle was upset, man. Kyle's not. Yeah, shout out to Kyle's not.
Starting point is 00:46:12 Hey, man, I didn't know who the f*** you was either. But listen, now that I know my n***a, man, let me bring a broom through your room, please. You know what I mean? You know my partner offset me, so you know, see if we can put it together because I ain't hating on none of y'all, man. I ain't hating on no old. I want to see you win. I want to see it happen. So, you know,
Starting point is 00:46:28 I'm sorry your boy didn't get it. Well, no, I'm not because I won. But shout out to Travis. You know what I mean? I've seen him grow from South by Southwest on. I ain't got no hate for nobody. I want you to win. But if we competing, I'm absolutely there to win. All right, we got more with Killer Mike when we come back. So don't move. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:46:44 Morning, everybody. It's DJ En Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We're still kicking it with Killer Mike. Charlamagne? I wonder if Kyle's listening to the album. Kyle's a good kid, though. He is one of the good kids. I ain't talking about myself.
Starting point is 00:46:56 I can tell he good. I mean, you know, he started out as Jesus. Hey, I want to thank God. Who let this motherfucker win? The Lord, the same person you just involved. Jesus is on my side. That's right. The Lord, the same person you just involved, Jesus is on my side. That's right. The Lord loved me too.
Starting point is 00:47:09 You know what Kai should have did? He should have did what Kenny Smith did. I saw Kenny Smith say he saw Mike win Rap Album of the Year. He hadn't listened to the album. If something wins an award of that magnitude, go listen to it and then have a conversation about it. But I feel, Kai, I want fans like Kai. I'm just here to tell you, Kai, as you grow, you're a 22-year-old, I got a 21-year-old,
Starting point is 00:47:30 because you're a leader. You're a leader team. You got a bunch of money now. As you grow into your leadership, this album's going to be more and more relevant to you. When you fall in love with a girl, when you have a child, you grow a family like Envy, Charlemagne, just as you matriculate more into adulthood because you're a young man, this album is going to mean more and more to you.
Starting point is 00:47:49 So in the same way that I might didn't understand Curtis Mayfield or Marvin Gaye. Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There's 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete.
Starting point is 00:48:10 Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. Why can't I create my own country? My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:48:35 What is that? Bullets. Bullets. We need help! We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan
Starting point is 00:48:48 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey guys, I'm Kate Max. So y'all, this is Questlove, and I'm here to tell you about a new podcast I've been working on with the Story Pirates and John Glickman called Historical Records. It's a family-friendly podcast.
Starting point is 00:50:05 Yeah, you heard that right. A podcast for all ages. One you can listen to and enjoy with your kids starting on September 27th. I'm going to toss it over to the host of Historical Records, Nimany, to tell you all about it. Make sure you check it out. Hey, y'all. Nimany here. I'm the host of a brand-new history podcast for kids and families called Historical Records. Historical Records brings history to life through hip hop.
Starting point is 00:50:42 Each episode is about a different inspiring figure from history. Like this one about Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old girl in Alabama who refused to give up her seat on the city bus nine whole months before Rosa Parks did the same thing. Check it. Get the kids in your life excited about history by tuning in to Historical Records. Because in order to make history, you have to make some noise. Listen to Historical Records on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey there, I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist who studies human behavior.
Starting point is 00:52:29 On my podcast, A Slight Change of Plans, I marry science and storytelling to better understand how to navigate the big changes in our lives. You can think of the adolescent brain as like the social R&D engine of our culture, that they're something that looks like a risky and idiotic to us. It's maybe their way of creatively trying to solve the problem of having social success and fewer of the things that bring you social failure.
Starting point is 00:53:17 Listen to A Slight Change of Plans on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts. At the time my mother first played it, by the time I was 15, I started to understand. By the time I was 25, I was living it. By the time I was 35, I absolutely had the same testimony. So it's an album that's going to grow with you. And again, congratulations. I'm not one of them old n****s who's mad. I appreciate Joe Budden for defending me.
Starting point is 00:53:39 Thank you, you know, for saying this n****s got a dope-ass album. But I don't want to go to war with you young n****s. I want you to check out some records, pick up some games, so you don't get caught up in the same bulls we did. I told him last year he was going to win the rap album with you. You did?
Starting point is 00:53:50 Yeah, I told him. That's right. Yeah, I didn't have any doubts. What I realize you have to do, though, is you have to stay in constant campaign mode because you can't assume people know you. Yeah. That's Kaisho.
Starting point is 00:54:00 Especially these days. Yeah, you got to stay in people's faces. You got to be gracious, and you got to show people that, you know, my record is not about me as much as it about us. It's about a generation. It's a generational statement. It's not just a classic record. When you look at, I remember when Envy was the young boy.
Starting point is 00:54:18 Literally was the young. And look at the man he's matriculating into. You know what I mean? Again, I remember you just popping up on my IG. I'm just like, damn, look at this woman now. Dominant force of media. Remember, this brother was in Monk's Corner.
Starting point is 00:54:28 We was in Columbia. Columbia, South Carolina. So there's room to grow. And I just want to encourage all of us to grow and stop discouraging each other. You know, I think as black people, we can do a better job
Starting point is 00:54:38 of encouraging. Even if we disagree, I think we can do a better job of encouraging. Man, we are the worst. Yeah. We the best, but then we the worst
Starting point is 00:54:44 with each other. Well, we've been taught to be that way too. Explain, expound on that. Well, we can do a better job of encouraging. Man, we are the worst. Yeah. We the best, but then we the worst with each other. Well, we've been taught to be that way too. Explain, expound on that. Well, we move from a place of lack. We move from a place of we think there's not enough. We move from a place of desperation. We move from a place of defense when we don't always have to. And I say we because the world is bigger than Atlanta, but that's not the world I grew up in.
Starting point is 00:55:01 The world I grew up in was very encouraging. Greatness was expected of you. And all my heroes and villains look like me. Shots out to Metro, by the way, too. Another just great brother that was in that category. In Atlanta, you are expected to work hard and succeed if you're black. You're not given the excuse of that it can't work for you. Because everybody you see successful in my neighborhood looked like me.
Starting point is 00:55:23 And everybody who was a neighborhood looked like me and everybody who was a failure looked like me. So I understood failure and success to be an account of personal decisions, as well as just a lot of systemic that goes on. That's, we're not never going to argue that. But in Atlanta, where I grew up, the special thing was that I never believed possibility was not. So I always believed it was possible. So, you know, for me, man, I expected to be here. I didn't know it was going to take this long on the journey. I didn't understand God's process. I didn't understand what was my purpose, but I knew I had a purpose. I didn't know where the journey was taking me. In the last 20 years, you didn't understand what your purpose was? No, I didn't.
Starting point is 00:55:57 You seem like a very purposeful brother. I just wanted to be an MC, but I did what was right when I was called to do it. That's all. You know what I mean? I'm not taking advantage of situations. That's why I don't chase every ambulance. I'm not popping up, talking on everything. But when the time calls for it, I'm there. But I just always wanted to be an emcee, but God had other plans. What does the Michael trilogy look like to you? Well, I've already started working.
Starting point is 00:56:18 I got out of Grammy night, and the next night I was in the studio with Mike Will. So shout out to Mike Will and Taco and Wilder, who are co-producers with Run the Jewels. They help people run the jewels. So I was in the studio with Mike Will. So, shout out to Mike Will and Taco and Wilder who are co-producers with Run the Jewels. They help people run the jewels. So, I was in the studio the next night. So,
Starting point is 00:56:28 the next one, just know I'm going deeper. You know, if you hear something for junkies, you're going to hear deeper cuts. If you heard,
Starting point is 00:56:34 you know, when you hear Motherless, you know about Denise and Betty, you're going to hear some Miss Betty diatribes on there. You're going to hear more of that
Starting point is 00:56:41 because I honestly think that this perspective has never been shown in hip-hop. Again, we've stayed in a place so long where we we thought of a young person's game we've kind of only accepted a young person's perspective but man if you grew up in the 90s your perspective is grown you know in the 90s man it was everything from sister soldier to you know to pe then going into nwas's, the Snoops. All that experience has meant something. You know, you went from working at the UPS to figuring it out,
Starting point is 00:57:09 starting your own business. So my thing is I think that there's a longer story in Michael, and I just like to take people on a path, this trilogy, and see where we end up after the next two. And, you know, I got the next decade or so planned out for me, and I think it's going to be a lot of dope music. But I know it's going to be a lot of dope music, and I hope y'all like it. I need you on the next album. I think it's going to be a lot of dope music. But I know it's going to be a lot of dope music. I hope y'all like it.
Starting point is 00:57:25 I need you on the next album. I need you. I need you. Shout out to my man Ryan Davis. Ryan was like, man, I saw him do a vlog. He was like, man, he kept asking me to be on it. I didn't take my opportunity. So Ryan, I want on there.
Starting point is 00:57:41 I need that baby mama voice. I'm waiting to see what Taz has. Taz is on baby Taz what up what's going down my brother Killer Mike in the building man congratulations for everything not only did you sweep God is doing his business with you making sure everybody
Starting point is 00:57:55 hears that album cause it is just an amazing thing you are healing people Mike for sure so congratulations to you brother no skip album healing our community I knew Ted I ain won't tear to be a hook for us be arguing for about politics I just wanted my sister still cuz man being with child to man I can out man I could fight the world with Jensen tears I could go against the world man because they go clown your ass and be smarter than a lot
Starting point is 00:58:21 of different platforms why do you intentionally do that? Because she's the leader. So you have organizers and you have mobilizers, right? An organizer on a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis is doing the work. Mobilizers are informed by the organizers and mobilizers use their platform to mobilize the people, right? So if you have someone, say Dr. king was an organizer at first the bigger platform he got you had snick come in after the sclc you had kwame toure then on a stokely carmichael you had john lewis who was then a member of snick they were doing the on the ground organizing in places like marion alabama selma alabama dr king would come in what's being organized what's the angle
Starting point is 00:59:00 we got boom this is how we're going to do it and the organizations would work together to bring the people together to bring greater awareness. Tanslyn does this on a daily basis. And a lot of times, a person that's doing it on a daily basis goes unaccredited. They go unnamed. Their work gets used by bigger organizations and people. Money gets misused. And it never makes it to where it should be.
Starting point is 00:59:20 So with my platform, I intend to spotlight the organizers that do the work. Taz shouldn't have to go around introducing herself to people. They should know when she's walking in the room because she does the work. So if I'm a sing and dance for a living and it's going to get to talk to me on the Internet, talk all that you want because I'm just a mobilizer and I'm going to go sing and dance for some more money. But you will
Starting point is 00:59:40 not deny this organizer's work. You won't deny this black woman that's working on behalf of us on an everyday basis. You won't deny the ability of her to train other people to run for local office when i believe in working hyper local and she trains you how to do this you won't deny the national work that she's done alone and alongside ben crump you won't act like she don't exist you won't try to treat her like the average chick who just pretty guy pretty braids pop up on the internet and then you can get rid of it you won't't do it. She's a mastermind politically. So for me, if I didn't do this, I wouldn't be doing what my
Starting point is 01:00:08 grandmother told me I'm supposed to do. If I didn't do this, I wouldn't be doing what those who supported Martin did. If I didn't do this, I wouldn't be doing what the Nation of Islam did when it was reforming black people and giving you people like Malcolm X, people like Mr. Farrakhan. If I didn't do this, I'd be wrong and God wouldn't be pleased with me. So I'm just simply doing
Starting point is 01:00:24 what I'm supposed to do and I'm going to it every single time all right now keep it locked we got more with killer mike we definitely got to get into what happened after you won your grammy so we'll talk about that as well so don't move it's the breakfast club good morning that's right we are the breakfast club dj envy jess hilarious charlamagne the guy we're still kicking it with killer mike charlamagne me and tes talk about this all the time it's just strange to me how when it comes to like you and brian kemp right people will say well brian kemp supports the voter suppression of black people so how could mike support him i've never heard mike say he supported brian kemp i've heard mike say he supports certain policies yeah that brian can pass but when it comes to somebody
Starting point is 01:00:58 like you know uh a president biden if somebody brings up the 94 crime bill they'll be like that's the past don't worry about that, focus on what the policies he's presenting now. So I'm like, how can you understand it with Biden but not with Mike and Kemp on a Georgia level? I've just accepted a lot of people just don't want to like me. And that's fine. People don't want to not like you, that's fine. I'm still rich.
Starting point is 01:01:18 I ain't got white folk rich yet but I'm still rich. Got a bunch of old school cars. My wife told me the other day, we was walking out she said, you know you ain't got no debt. She said, the only debt you have is the warehouse you bought. She said, yeah, everything ain't paying off. She said, you live like a drug dealer. You know what I mean? Because I don't want no debt, because debt makes you a slave. You know, I got good
Starting point is 01:01:34 debt. I got the debt. I got to learn about good debt. I do that. But I'm not here to be your political tool. I'm here to do what's right on behalf of my community and point you to the people who do the work. And again, I circle back around. If you want to see someone doing the work, go to Tesla. And if
Starting point is 01:01:49 you're not interested in doing the work, you would be at Twitter giving me suggestions when you should be working. Even when these people try to get you to endorse President Biden, which I just think is, I don't know why that's the thing every time you're on these platforms now. All you simply say is, I supported Bernie Sanders,
Starting point is 01:02:05 so look to the candidate who's supporting the policies that Bernie supports. I support people like Keisha Lance Bottoms. Look to the administration. I look to the party that's supporting those kind of policies.
Starting point is 01:02:14 That's common sense to me. Common sense. Common sense. But wait, you know what, though? I can't give all my time to haters and politics. I want to tell you, man, my album,
Starting point is 01:02:24 if you want to better understand michael you should listen to that album absolutely you know because that album is full of the social commentary that leads you to understand politically why i do some of the things i do i love black folk i love us i love us all i love you democrats i love the republicans i love the that don't like each other you know i mean because at the end of the day all we got is each other that's right you know and if you don't understand we all on the same plantation n****s that don't like each other. You know what I mean? Because at the end of the day, all we got is each other. That's right. You know, and if you don't understand, we all on the same plantation. You a fool. I don't care how close to the house you need a house to.
Starting point is 01:02:50 If somebody had to sneak the food out of the house, wouldn't you agree? Come on. I don't think anyone's going to go food out of the house. You think everyone's going to go food out of the house? If I be defending you, because my daddy likes getting in the good house, man. Let me tell you something. I don't let them n****s talk bad about us. I'm light-skinned on good health, man. Let me tell you something. I don't let them talk bad about us. I'm light-skinned on the inside, man.
Starting point is 01:03:07 I don't say nothing. No, Envy's a good man. Envy's a good man. No, Envy's a great man. He's a great man. He's a great example for being a family man, and I appreciate him. And I know you catch hell, but, man, you wanted to find these examples for husbanding and fatherhood. And I got to give you your flowers on that because, man, we waste too much time talking to each other and after the talk session we'll give each
Starting point is 01:03:27 other flowers and I you know I talk a lot but you my man thank you Tess I want to switch gears a little bit Mike let's do it I love what you did man at what point did you decide I'm not gonna let this bull that happened on Grammy night overshadow my Grammy moment. I bother me. Yeah. Hell y'all talk about, Hey man, I was too happy to be saying I'm thankful for it all. I'm thankful for the Grammys.
Starting point is 01:03:51 I'm thankful for the bulls. Cause man, bull is the best fertilizer on the farm. And, and I got a chance to sit by myself for three hours and thank God and, and invoke praise and be grateful for the things that I received. I didn't have to take no phone calls. I didn't have to host anybody for those three hours.
Starting point is 01:04:08 And after those three hours, I got out. I hugged and loved my wife, my friends and family that were there waiting on me. I went and partied at Concord. I drank all I could. I wouldn't even drink a drink. Smoked, felt good, and woke up the next morning to one of the best phone calls I got in my life. And that's that they have a kidney for Ponyboy mother called me going crazy man hyperventilating crying we both crying snot coming out our nose that's your son that's my son's my youngest son pony and pony on
Starting point is 01:04:34 he gave me permission to talk about it now he didn't like me t.o.z just talked about it without his permission man waking up to that you start to understand the parable of jesus being in the desert you know by itself and the devil walking up to him and the devil's like hey man you know i can give you the world i can give you the world i can eat food right now i can't and jesus refused it he absolutely refused it so whether whether you believe the bible or not i just know man story mythology is powerful and if you teach a lesson through a story it's amazing thing I sat in it that sale and I just had some point I just relaxed I said okay it's just me and God and I say well I could ask God why I could be mad I could say thank you I just said thank you thank you thank you my man sleeping man we've been friends
Starting point is 01:05:18 since we were seven gambling in the bottom of a church and sleep is like my Peter you know he he he um he's the one that calls me in the morning and says, Fat Boy, yo, thank the Lord for everything you got, Fat Boy. You used to say a dope on Martin Luther King. Look at you now. You know, thank you. Thank you for saying my name in a song, Fat Boy. I woke up to him this morning. Fat Boy, I see you.
Starting point is 01:05:38 I see you on that last night in the iron, Fat Boy. You look good. Thank the Lord. And he never lets me forget to be thankful and to be grace filled so for me whatever little thing happened was just a thing
Starting point is 01:05:49 and that thing is past the next morning I woke up my son got a kidney so through everything through the Grammy win through the arrest
Starting point is 01:05:55 through your son getting the kidney it was just gratitude just gratitude that's all I got for you I ain't got no hate for nobody I ain't got nothing
Starting point is 01:06:02 too slick to say back I'm filled with grace I thank the Lord I mean I really thank the Lord I can't you no hate for nobody. I ain't got nothing too slick to say back. I'm filled with grace. I thank the Lord. I mean, I really thank the Lord. I came, you know, man, Betty told me. That lady said, God will set you down. My whole life, I've been going. I've been running.
Starting point is 01:06:15 I've been trying to get it. And my grandmother told me, God will set you down. And I just, man, I had to sit down. And you just like, God damn. That old lady was right you gotta believe it was a conspiracy theory though mike come on man that ain't no coincidence let me tell you something man there's no coincidence it could be man but look it didn't work against martin it didn't work against malcolm didn't work against mandela didn't work against
Starting point is 01:06:40 melchior you know it's not whatever whatever the devil give you God God if you stay if you stay in tune man you multiply the good over that's right because I was told the police the people who detained you weren't even police no it was I was at this is some citizens arresting us a mystery police said it is just a, see this is a real. I didn't know they could do that for real. I didn't know either. I didn't know either. They probably didn't know
Starting point is 01:07:10 even they was probably happy or something. Gave me the perk walking me through everybody like, Mike, what's up? I want free Mike. I'm like, no, shut up.
Starting point is 01:07:18 We good. It's going to be okay. So it really showed me how much love I had. And a conspiracy theorist that should show you how afraid they are of Michael Renda.
Starting point is 01:07:26 That's what I say. If I start rapping, I'm going to run for something. So y'all better hope I keep on rapping. I'll really be a thorn in your side and a pain in your ass then.
Starting point is 01:07:34 Man, what if that's the conspiracy? He got a trilogy coming out. So if we give him a Grammy every year for the next three years, it'll keep him from running for anything.
Starting point is 01:07:42 What if that's the conspiracy? These folk ain't studying me man These folk got bigger world They got a military Industrial complex To take care of They got other countries To invade and colonize
Starting point is 01:07:51 They not studying me But I hope my people are Yeah I hope my people Man Mike we appreciate you We love you so much man Man thank you That Michael album
Starting point is 01:07:59 I'ma tell you If you hadn't heard it Kai if you ain't listened to it Y'all man You know get it Cause as you get older And the pressure get on You you're going to want to know, you know. Killer Mike, thank you for joining us. Thanks, y'all.
Starting point is 01:08:10 Love y'all, man. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilaria, Charlamagne Tha God. We are the Breakfast Club. And let's get to Jess with the mess. Ben, Jesus will.
Starting point is 01:08:21 Jesus will. Jess Hilaria, Jessica Robin, Newark. Jess don't do no lying. Jess is going to bring numbers. Jess with the mess. I need the mess. I need the mess. On the Breakfast Club. Monique's son comes forward after Club Shay Shay interview. Monique's firstborn son, Shalom Jackson, shared a video on TikTok yesterday to speak on his mother's relationship. Now, he's 34 years old. Let me hear what he had to say. I guess I felt the need to make this video to just provide some context into this false narrative about her praying to the universe in order to reconcile our relationship or whatever the hell it is. To address the Club Shishay interview that she did where she states that she prays to the universe in regards to reconciling
Starting point is 01:09:05 our relationship as i stated um is odd my mother and i both know that that is a very false narrative and i would like to free her of having to continue telling that lie faith without work is dead and neither one of us cares to put forth any effort to reconcile with the other. He also spoke on his mom not being interested in him as well. To inform a child that you are not interested in being a mother at a time when that kid is the only kid that has the potential to lead a child to believe that you are not interested in them specifically. My mother had also admitted to me that she didn't do the best job that she could do, which would also make one begin to question, you know, all of your past decisions and prior emotional interactions. But my mother showed a clear lack of humility, compassion, and consideration when taking any
Starting point is 01:10:01 level of accountability for those things. To this very day, my mother has never expressed to me when, if ever, she became interested in me as her son. And then he went on ahead and spoke. Now, this video was 10 minutes long, but we just chopped up the most important parts of it, of what I wanted to talk about. Yeah, and then he also was saying how Monica called him ungrateful for things that she would buy because she would spoil him with things.
Starting point is 01:10:28 I loved my mother very much, but my mother loved things more than she loved me. And she would validate her love for me by giving me things and would proceed to call me ungrateful or inconsiderate if said things did not have the desired effect. I couldn't imagine what it's like to be her though, to ask God for what you want and then he gives you what you need though, only for you to ignore it and have the audacity to ask God for something else. By no means though do I want to give off any type of an impression that I am a victim of anything. And you know there were a few things that she did teach me along the way. I did learn how not to love from my mother.
Starting point is 01:11:08 I also learned to make sure that I never lose so much of who I am that I have to validate it through another person. He also spoke on, he actually thanked her more so at the end. This is his thanks to his mother. I do also want to make sure that I say thank you to my mother for giving me life. Without that moment in time, I wouldn't have had my little one. But outside of that moment, there isn't anything that either of us has to offer the other. In my opinion, it's a waste of God's time and the universe's time for praying for something that you were not willing to put forth any effort to obtain.
Starting point is 01:11:41 Putting the work into becoming Monique is more important to my mother than being my mother. But like I said, man, I'm super grateful that she has the opportunity to do it all over again. You know, I'm happy for her. I hope the Cat Williams tour goes well. But you know, the narrative that she prays for us to reconcile is a false narrative. It's not real and I'd appreciate it if she stopped saying stuff like that at the beginning of the video he said that you know he wrote down his his thoughts to avoid being overcome with emotions or expressing scattered thoughts he's well spoken also by the way that lord i'm like have a podcast he talks he talks like amazingly and um he considered the video a form of therapy and
Starting point is 01:12:21 monique and her husband sydney hicks they sat together and responded you know as soon as they saw this which was also yesterday and this is what they said there's some people that are saying oh you should be ashamed of your mothering skills let's let it play out because the same ones that said to me I was crazy I was deranged we watched it play out I do want to address this though Shalon when. When you say her daddy, her daddy, then that's when mommy going to say, stop playing because you know, this has been uncle said your whole life. Uncle said knew you before you knew you. So for you to say her three sons, yes, you're absolutely right. He has three sons. He can't claim you as his son because he's always been uncle said, and he knows your daddy very well see you you're leaving
Starting point is 01:13:06 off the fact that the last time we laid eyes on you your mother got you everything you needed for the newborn baby it's really hard to watch uh people's trauma play out over social media like i don't understand why people can't speak to each other and why they feel like they owe an explanation to a bunch of strangers on social media. Yeah, I mean, we saw his mother go on Club Shay Shay and speak. Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag and just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy.
Starting point is 01:13:42 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Laudonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. Why can't I trade my own country?
Starting point is 01:13:58 My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets.

Get the kids in your life excited about history by tuning in to Historical Records. Because in order to make history, you have to make some noise. At night, I would dream that my face was,-unquote normal or back to the way it was.
Starting point is 01:18:28 And I'd wake up and there'd be no change. I also speak with scientists about how we can be more resilient in the face of change. You can think of the adolescent brain as like the social R&D engine of our culture. That something that looks like risky and idiotic to us is maybe their way of creatively trying to solve the problem of having social success and fewer of the things that bring you social failure listen to a slight change of plans on the iHeartRadio app apple podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts um about a relationship that she was praying to the universe for um and he basically said faith without
Starting point is 01:19:06 works is is is dead like don't act like this is something that you want you know what i mean you you speak of the three children that you have and you you somehow leave me out like you know and your husband and then to come back and say you know what you call him uncle said he's your uncle said but he would be in fact her step his stepfather you know and then also you know you call him uncle said he's your uncle said but he would be in fact her step his stepfather you know and then also you know with with sydney even saying the last time we lay eyes on you we got everything for you know they were saying they got him a car they got you know because the videos were long but that's what he said like y'all okay y'all buy me things you buy me things mom you you've always bought me things, but you weren't there.
Starting point is 01:19:47 And you really never showed me that you wanted to be there either. Lord have mercy. I wish they was having that conversation with each other. I wish they were. But, you know, like he said, basically he was making a video to his defense. She went public with it. And he's still a hurt child in there.
Starting point is 01:19:59 He's 34 years old. He has a child of his own. He's still a hurt child. So she has grandkids. I didn't even know she has a grandbaby know you applaud monique's son's speech i really like your serious voice jess you're just with the journalist voice oh my god that's incredible like your whole tone when you explain this story you was you know talking with you even position your hands like this you know you know you whisper at the end when you throw the things you say let's
Starting point is 01:20:22 listen to this yeah you know what And shut up over there, Rudolph. With his nose over there sick. Oh, my God, no. Oh, my God, no. I know. Well, this is something I want to dig into. I mean, because this is obviously trauma that we're seeing unfolding. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:20:40 Yo, this is like trauma that we're seeing unfolding. And yes, I do wish that it could be between son and mother. Yes. Son and just mother. I hate seeing it so much. We've seen it with Romeo and his dad. We've seen it with so many different people. And I just would love for them to get on the phone and chop it up and talk to each other.
Starting point is 01:20:59 Like get their feelings out and hopefully they can start to heal. Yeah, hopefully that can happen. Because we all know what having kids there's no instruction manual you know how you raise this kid or what this kid likes or what this kid wants or what this kid needs is not what your other kid needs so you just never know what raising kids yeah you never know so i i'm definitely praying for that family i'm praying to god for that family all right and that is just with the mess just gotta say it oh yeah this is just with the mess of Jess got to say it. Oh. Yes, this is Jess with the mess
Starting point is 01:21:25 and my news is real. See? Journalist voice. That's how she whispered then. That was Jess with the mess and my news is real. And my news is real.
Starting point is 01:21:32 And y'all can catch the uncut versions on Instagram. Jella man. Who you giving that donkey to, man? Man, four after the hour. You know it's Valentine's Day.
Starting point is 01:21:40 Okay? It is Valentine's Day and there's a lot of people out there that's single. And guess what? It's your fault Oh boy We gonna talk about Accountability this morning
Starting point is 01:21:50 It is time to talk about Self-awareness Okay Some of y'all Are alone Because You Are the problem
Starting point is 01:21:59 We will discuss Oh boy Alright We'll get to that next So don't move It's the Breakfast Club Good morning You're checking's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:22:06 You're checking out the Breakfast Club. Some donkey today just saw himself. I've been watching, Charlamagne. I was ready for you. I'm a donkey. I never heard of a donkey the other day. What is it? I'm a donkey. Say it again, Charlamagne.
Starting point is 01:22:21 I'm a donkey. Yes. You are a donkey. Wow. Wow. Everything that Charlamagne yes you are wow wow everything and charlamagne is true yes it is yeah he alive uh donkey of the day for wednesday february 14th is you okay if the puma fits you're gonna wear it today see valentine's day the day that is for the loving you the day that is for you and your lover okay salute to everyone out there who has a the loving you, the day that is for you and your lover. Okay, salute to everyone out there who has a Valentine.
Starting point is 01:22:48 Drop on the clues, mom, for you. All right, how do you feel about Valentine's Day? 13% of people say it's their favorite holiday. 6% of people say they hate it. 5% say it's the most depressing day of the year. 4% say they are more into Singles Awareness Day. 10% of people say they are single and loving it. 9% of people buy candy and flowers for themselves on valentine's day that's self-love i respect it okay 23 of
Starting point is 01:23:11 single women would rather spend valentine's day with their pet than their romantic partner only seven percent of men say the same 49 of americans treat their pets on valentine's treat their pets to what all right we gotta watch those people because they might be taking doggy style literally i'm reading you all these stats because god really put a word on my heart this morning and i must deliver did you know just hilarious that valentine's day is less popular among men than women 13 13 of men say valentine's day is their favorite holiday eight percent of men absolutely hate it meanwhile 13 of women claim valentine's day is their favorite holiday compared to just five percent who hate it women enjoy the single life more than men do only nine percent of
Starting point is 01:23:58 women are single and actively uh uh searching for a boyfriend compared to 13 of men who say they are single and want a girlfriend i want to talk to y'all today and i want you to know that what i'm about to say is coming from a place of love okay it's rooted in love if you've been listening to the breakfast club for years then you know historically on valentine's day i have given donkey to people who don't have nobody and it's not that i was shaming people for not having nobody plenty of people don't have nobody and they're happy. OK, it's by choice.
Starting point is 01:24:26 The people I would give donkey of the day to is the folks who didn't have nobody and would try to downplay those of us that do. Don't buy humbug on Valentine's Day because you single. Don't be the Grinch that stole Valentine's Day. You mad because at some point in your life you fell in love with somebody and then found out they pronounced valentine's valentine's and now you mad okay now you mad all right all you mad at everybody who got a boo you mad at the 85 of women that will be purchasing valentine day cards you mad at the 73 of flowers that will be purchased by men today sit your heart-shaped candy hating ass down and let me talk to you because i have a word that you may not want to hear but it's going to change your life god told me to tell you that
Starting point is 01:25:14 the reason you don't have a valentine the reason you don't have a significant other husband a wife a life partner whatever you want to call it the reason you don't have any of those things is simply because you're a terrible, toxic person. Okay? Jesus. All right? It is valentine for you to acknowledge that there is a problem, and the problem is you. Okay?
Starting point is 01:25:32 As is the case with most problems, the first step is acknowledging that your behavior is harmful to people. See, we're so accustomed to directing our attention outward that it's hard to go inward and admit we the problem. Okay? our attention outward that is hard to go inward and admit we the problem okay men women they folks got all these reasons why they single all right not finding the right person chasing the wrong person choosing the wrong partners have you ever stopped to think that you're not the right person that you're the wrong partner huh you're the wrong partner somebody chose see so many of us have done zero work on ourselves. We're not going to no therapy. We haven't even thought about going on a journey of healing.
Starting point is 01:26:09 We have all this unhealed trauma, all this baggage, and God is protecting people from you. Oh, they don't want to hear this this morning, okay? They don't want to hear what I'm telling them on Valentine's Day, okay? Your relationships don't work because you haven't. It is time to identify your toxic traits. And once you identify your toxic traits, it is important to take responsibility for your actions and make a commitment to change. It's that unhealed trauma that you haven't dealt with that got you absolutely refusing to go on a first date to hurt human in America. And they didn't want to go anywhere on a first date
Starting point is 01:26:45 you know why that was because those people aren't happy with themselves one of one of the main symptoms of unresolved trauma is lack of trust and difficulty opening up to other people the reason you don't want to go anywhere is because it scares you to death to have to sit with somebody and have a conversation you're afraid you're gonna get found out you are afraid you're gonna have to look someone in the eyes and when they look you in the eyes They gonna see something you don't want them to see Don't try to act you know like Buffalo Wild Wings Red Lobster Waffle House and sporting events did something to you No, no, no, this is on you
Starting point is 01:27:17 This is why they say your trauma may not be your fault But healing your trauma is absolutely your responsibility because in life we attract what we are and if you're not about nothing you're not gonna attract nothing now let's not focus on just the trauma of it all right now let's just focus on the fact you might just be a horrible person okay i don't know why you horrible some of y'all just not good people some of y'all just have piss poor character and a strong indicator of piss poor character is how someone behaves when they are shown to be wrong about something. Folks who always deflect or blame others or change the subject or last out. That's just a display.
Starting point is 01:27:51 OK, that's just a display of an absence of personal responsibility, which is definitely a sign of being less than a good person. So when you talk to yourself about being alone on Valentine's Day, don't go blaming other people. OK, stop acting like there's no good partners out there because if you see the world that way i promise it's you some of y'all too self-centered okay and there's nothing wrong with putting your needs first self-care putting yourself first is crucial because you can't help nobody if you need to help yourself but if you're always thinking about yourself and your own needs and you never consider the feelings of other people then you might have some issues you need to address. If you neglect the needs of the people you
Starting point is 01:28:27 are closest to, such as your children and other family members and friends, then why oh why would you get blessed with a valentine or a valentine? Okay? Donkey of the day, today is you. It's your fault. You're the reason this is happening to you. Terrible men get with terrible women and have terrible relationships. Fix your... Please let Remy Ma give all a single because they are terrible humans. The biggest hee-haw. Hee-haw, hee-haw.
Starting point is 01:28:55 You stupid mother... Are you dumb? It's you. I hope you got security today. You're going to get punched in the head again. He's going to get slapped. It's crazy. He don't even know who he work with.
Starting point is 01:29:06 You don't know all the single people you work with, bro? That's crazy. I was talking to all of them. I was subbing all of them. I see. All the producers single. They probably pissed off at you right now. Well, they need to look in the mirror.
Starting point is 01:29:17 Damn. I'm not saying I'm talking to them. You just said you was talking to them. I said that? Yeah, you did. Damn. Well, accountability is something that people should take now i remember being in a relationship i was being in relationships
Starting point is 01:29:31 i was one of those people i wasn't a good person for a long time but i also didn't know who i was and what i wanted this is when i was young i i was dating older guys i was just dating for the money didn't dating up for the money i was getting whatever i could for me and my son believe that lights was off what's up a thousand dollars yeah like all that everything and then i was with i had relationships one relationship with a good guy cheated on him all that so i i definitely damn you understand what i'm talking about i do understand i was once a bad person that's right let's let's look at the phone you're a good person and you're blessed i'm gonna tell you something just the realest. I heard Jess say in a meeting the other day, I don't even know why she volunteered this information.
Starting point is 01:30:07 She was like, I've been quit hoeing. I'm like, what? First of all, you did say that. I was like, what? She did. Why'd she tell the executive that? I don't know why she... Don't ever say I just be blurting out stuff like that. You did. No, we was talking about my journey.
Starting point is 01:30:25 I was like, at the beginning, yeah, I was talking about my journey. At the beginning, I was on it. But then I stopped. Then I stopped. Because I grew into who I was. That's right. I evolved. There you go. Well, let's open up the phone lines. 800-585-1051.
Starting point is 01:30:40 If you're single, can you admit that it's you? That's right. Not after that donkey of a day. Open the goddamn phone lines. Now we talking. 800-585-1051. Again, how come you didn't put it on Lonely, the other Lonely joint that we always play every year?
Starting point is 01:30:56 Bobby Womack? Yeah, Bobby Womack. You want to play some Bobby Womack? I want to play some Bobby Womack. That ain't Bobby Womack. That is not Bobby Womack. That is not Bobby Womack. That is not Bobby Womack. Oh walking back. That is not Bobby walking back.
Starting point is 01:31:06 Oh, man. I like this idea, though. 1-800-585-1051. Can you admit it's you? Can you admit you don't have a Valentine's Day, that you're not in a relationship, that you're single because it's you and your toxic traits? You just heard Jess talk about how she used to be toxic.
Starting point is 01:31:21 I like it. All right, let's do it when we come back. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Call, call, call, call. Tell her, tell her.
Starting point is 01:31:31 Made it. Just for some chemistry. If y'all talking about it, you know we talking about it. It's topic time. Call 800-585-1051 to
Starting point is 01:31:43 join in to the discussion with the Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club on this Valentine's Day. Now, Charlamagne gave donkey of the day to who? I gave donkey of the day to all of the people who don't want to, you know,
Starting point is 01:31:58 hold themselves accountable and just admit that they're terrible people. You know, they have a lot of toxic traits. And the reason that they're single on Valentine's Day is because of them. It's not because of nobody else. It's because you won't go do no work on yourself. So we're asking this morning, can you admit that it's you that you're single today?
Starting point is 01:32:16 Now, Jess is far from single, right? Yes. But at one point in your life, you had to admit. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. In my early 20s. Yeah, absolutely. I was. I was very much a bad person it was out here i was definitely out here why are you smiling
Starting point is 01:32:32 those was the good old days those was the good times back in the day but i would never want to do that now yeah yeah when did you realize it was you? No, I always knew it was me. I just didn't care. Got you. You get what I'm saying? I always knew. I always knew it was me. I didn't care.
Starting point is 01:32:52 So then when I got old, I was like, oh, I got this from my father. But you say you had a good man at one point, though. At one point. He was good. Real good, man. I met him at a barbershop. Everything was cool. It was lit.
Starting point is 01:33:04 He had a job like he cared about ash everything man he taught my son how to walk everything it was crazy and then I cheated on him for this man that looked like Tupac Shakur yo he looks so good and it don't sound like you regret it it's not at all I mean just an in-hair grinning and blushing like what the hell yes and now the boy is on drugs. Really? Yeah, he back and forth out of jail, on drugs. He got shot in the butt twice.
Starting point is 01:33:31 Shot in the butt? No, seriously. Like, people think it's a game. Baltimore's some crazy streets. You led that man to a deep depression. Yeah. You broke that man's heart. Yeah, I actually did.
Starting point is 01:33:39 And that's why I felt like, out of nowhere, then that's when everybody started cheating on me. And I already knew where it was coming from. Like I said, I always knew i was a bad person i just didn't care until i got older like all right i'm getting tired of this now like everything started happening to me that i started doing that i began doing to others like i was like oh man so you you recognized that you held yourself accountable yeah and i was single for a minute i was like all right yeah i gotta chill because i gotta work on me Like that's a real thing
Starting point is 01:34:05 You don't realize like Yo you hurting people Even when you young It don't matter how old you are That stuff stick with people That's right Yeah cause like no He's seriously on drugs
Starting point is 01:34:13 Well let's go to the phone lines Yeah Hello who's this? This is Mikey B man Mikey D Can you admit that it's you? Mikey B man B you
Starting point is 01:34:22 It's me man Okay Alright Good Thank you Mikey First step to accountability that is you? Mikey B, man. B, you. It's me, man. Okay. Alright. Good. Thank you, Mikey. First step to accountability. At times, I do miserable, though. Definitely miserable at times, but
Starting point is 01:34:33 it's not miserable where I want to hate somebody else. What do you think you need? Do you need to start going to therapy or something? Of course. I'm waiting on it now. I'm waiting on my insurance to click through. Well, when your insurance clicked through, man, you go to therapy. You know what I'm saying? And you try to figure some things out.
Starting point is 01:34:50 You can actually go to, I'm going to give you a website. Go to AcomaProject.com. You can go to MentalWealthAlliance.com or go to AcomaProject.com. And my good sister, Dr. Alfie, she has some things up there that you can, some potential free therapy. I said potential free theory. Potential free theory. Potential free theory. Go to Acomaproject.org. I'm sorry. You said it like six times. Yeah, Acomaproject.org. Yeah, Dr. Alfie Breland Noble.
Starting point is 01:35:17 You heard the list? Yeah, he was all over the place with that one. Shut up. Hello, who's this? This is B. Hey, good morning. Can you admit that you are the mom? Okay, so I'm no longer single, but when I was single, I've been dealing with the same kind of people multiple times. I realized I was a problem, and I went to therapy.
Starting point is 01:35:39 I'm actually still in therapy. Nice. And started working through childhood trauma that basically depended on the kind of men that I was dating. And also, Sean, I have to say, you are part of the reason I finally went to therapy. Because my mom was trying to do me a rubber band for years, and I was used to doing it. Wow, I'm happy to be there. I'm sending you nothing but positive energy, love, and light. You keep healing.
Starting point is 01:36:02 And once I started doing the work, it was like, the issues was, I finally got my poster. Wow. You see what we're learning here today? Don't matter if you're a man, don't matter if you're a woman,
Starting point is 01:36:15 don't matter if you're a they, hoes can heal. Oh my God. That's what you got. I'm a desert ho out here. Hoes can heal. You know what? I'm a healed hoe. I think your wholeness can be deleted
Starting point is 01:36:26 Thank you 800-585-1051 It's Valentine's Day Charlamagne gave Donkey the day to all you single people Out there that you're the problem And that's what we want to know We want to know if you can admit that you are the problem Call us up right now
Starting point is 01:36:42 It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. If you're just joining us, we're talking about Charlamagne's donkey of the day.
Starting point is 01:37:04 All you single people out there, can you admit that it's you? You want to talk about the donkey, Charlamagne? Oh, you just said it. Donkey went to everybody out there, you know, who has zero accountability and can't admit that they're the problem.
Starting point is 01:37:20 Like, you know, they have toxic traits. They're terrible people. They got a bunch of unresolved trauma that they bring into relationships. And the reason their relationships don't ever work is because they've never done any work on themselves. Yeah. So we're opening up the phone lines. 800-585-1051. Can you admit that it's you?
Starting point is 01:37:36 Hello. Who's this? This is Tanya, Andy. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning, Jess. Good morning, Sharla.
Starting point is 01:37:43 Peace, peace. Listen, Sharla's talking out the side of his neck. Come on, Sharla. Period. Uh-oh. I'm 57. I'm beautiful. Probably going for 40-something.
Starting point is 01:37:51 I'm single because I choose to for the last year and a half. Not because no toxic did, no toxic that, never have, never been. But I'm enjoying life. I'm not dealing with the BS. I take my 19-year out for valentine's day if i choose to he has a girlfriend but no it's because i choose to be by myself this valentine's day or any other valentine's day if i was you know you know during donkey i said you know if the puma fits you're gonna wear today i also said that there's people out there who are single and
Starting point is 01:38:23 happy by choice. So this shouldn't even apply to you. But, you know, them hit dogs be hollering sometimes. Oh, my God. Uh-oh. Hit dogs? No, not at all. I'm from South Florida.
Starting point is 01:38:35 No hit dogs, Charlotte. No hit dogs. But you said anybody who's single. Yes, he did, man. On Valentine's Day. Yes, he did. Yes, he did. I was very specific. I said the people
Starting point is 01:38:45 You try to cover it up at the end I said the people who Bah humbug Valentine's Day The people that are Grinches on Valentine's Day The people that are single You're stressing By yourself Don't talk to you like that Kenya
Starting point is 01:39:02 Miss Kenya Is your country falling apart Feeling tired depressed You're a still. I'm not talking to you like that, Kenya. You're a party. That's right. Miss Kenya. I even quote. Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired? Depressed? A little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country.
Starting point is 01:39:13 I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There's 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Laudonia. I'm. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia.
Starting point is 01:39:30 Be part of a great colonial tradition. The Waikana tribe own country. My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh, my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets. We need help! We need help!
Starting point is 01:39:49 We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, guys. I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. On my podcast, A Slight Change of Plans, I marry science and storytelling to better understand how to navigate the big changes in our lives. It was like a slow nightmare, you know, because every day you think, oh, surely tomorrow I'll be better. And I would dream of being better.
Starting point is 01:43:59 At night, I would dream that my face was, quote unquote, normal or back to the way it was. And I'd wake up and there'd be no change I also speak with scientists about how we can be more resilient in the face of change You can think of the adolescent brain as like this social R&D engine of our culture that they're Something that looks like a risky and idiotic to us It's maybe their way of creatively trying to solve the problem of having social success and fewer of the things that bring you social failure. Listen to A Slight Change of Plans on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. What are the stats about women who are enjoying the single life?
Starting point is 01:44:38 Where do you get the stats from, though? Yeah, I am. That's right. I am because I hit that easy button so fast that you don't even know how fast I hit that easy button. Don't back down. Can I ask you a question, though? Can I ask you a question? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:44:50 Is there a small part of you that says to yourself, it might be me? No. Listen, I am a beautiful person, but I can be a B-I-T-C-H. But I tolerate what I want to tolerate, and I don't tolerate certain BS. Yeah. And that's all it is. And listen, she is old enough and has had many experiences to be able to say...
Starting point is 01:45:08 Thank you, Jess. Okay, you understand? Yeah, because listen... Thank you. My boyfriend's mother felt the same way. She on her way into 62 and she is fine with just being around the children and just being... Don't have a line of strength.
Starting point is 01:45:21 Don't nobody got time? How many vibrators you on right now? Thank you. Jesus. Not a one. Not a one. I don't even want to be tempted How many vibrators you on right now? Thank you. At all. How many vibrators? Not a one. Not a one. I don't even want
Starting point is 01:45:27 to be tempted. Not a one. She going crazy. If I'm with somebody, y'all don't with somebody. I don't need no vibrators. I'm single right now. Single, single, single.
Starting point is 01:45:38 A strong indicator of poor character is how someone behaves when they are shown to be wrong about something. You know, folks who always deflect and blame others and, you know,
Starting point is 01:45:45 change the subject. That's you, right, Tyler? That's you, right? You have all the answers. Whoa. Whoa. You have all the answers. Why you come back every time?
Starting point is 01:45:53 You ain't got the answers. Well, Kenya. What? Yes, he does. Do you think there's any good men out there? You think there's any good men out there, man?
Starting point is 01:46:01 Yeah, there are. There are. There are. They're probably in Alabama and Mississippi, but not in South Florida. All the men in South Florida. I need a dude with a flip phone.
Starting point is 01:46:09 I need somebody with a flip phone. I don't need an Android iPhone. That's right, Kenya. You tell them. Thank you. She said she wants somebody with a flip phone. Yeah, she wants a fashion man back. My name is Tanya.
Starting point is 01:46:18 Oh, Tanya. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Tanya. Yeah, it's great. She wants the old-fashioned men back. She wants the men who ain't trying to keep up with the young women. She wants the old men like that. She don't want a Shanna Shaw.
Starting point is 01:46:30 Well, Tanya, you have a good Valentine's. She don't want a Shaquille O'Neal. She want a Morgan Freeman type of man. She want a man that know he old. Yeah. Okay, okay. And been old since the beginning of time. Well, Tanya, they cut you off.
Starting point is 01:46:42 We just want to say have a great Valentine's, Tanya. Whatever you do out there today. It ain't going to be nothing to do with Valentine's. You enjoy yourself. Another day for Tanya. You buy yourself some chocolate. You buy yourself some flowers. Lord have mercy.
Starting point is 01:46:54 You love on yourself tonight. Lord have mercy. I'm just saying, if there ain't no good men in South Florida, not one, it might be you. If that's how you see South Florida, it might be you. That's all I'm saying. Who the hell is this? Morgan Freeman. Whoa, Morgan.
Starting point is 01:47:14 Uh-oh. Hello, what's going on? How you doing? How you feeling? Oh, man, I'm good. Is it you? No, it's my ex-wife intending to be my ex-wife. It's my wife. I'm trying to be my ex-wife. Ooh.
Starting point is 01:47:27 Oh, she was the problem? Oh, yeah. She was definitely the problem. That message you put out there this morning, bro, on everything I love, that needed to be put out there, man. Because you have a lot of people out there that really think that they don't come short. We all fall short somewhere, man. Yes, indeed.
Starting point is 01:47:43 And it's very important to examine yourself. Absolutely. You know, my wife, I did everything for her. Never missed holidays, never missed birthdays, but she don't own up to nothing. And when I say nothing, I mean nothing. She don't work. She don't do nothing. I try to get her to join me with the business. She don't even want to help with that.
Starting point is 01:48:01 But I never missed Valentine's Day or none of that. And I said said i'm not going into the new year doing the same thing and that's why i'm here now i'm leaving her now i'm working now but i'm the 23rd i'm moving down south and that's it because i can't continue to do it man she don't own up to nothing guess what our favorite word is what is it everybody's a donkey damn i said what you need to own that one This go around Cause this
Starting point is 01:48:28 You know And man And for me to get through to y'all Cause you use that donkey thing That hee haw hee haw Man And that's her favorite line It's a bunch of donkeys around here
Starting point is 01:48:38 But she don't own up to anything man And I really You know I've got mad love for her And I still You know Got feelings for her But I can't you know, got feelings for her, but I can't really deal
Starting point is 01:48:47 with people, man, that can't admit when they fall short. Which we all do, man. That's right. Well, you sound like a great king. Have it in yourself
Starting point is 01:48:53 and be good. That's right. Thank you for checking in. You sound like a great king and then there's somebody out there for you and maybe it ain't hard. That is it.
Starting point is 01:49:00 Jesus. All right. Well, what's the moral of the story? The moral of the story is I'm going to keep saying it. You got to go out there and do the work on yourself.
Starting point is 01:49:05 I don't care what y'all say. You know what I'm saying? Take accountability. And don't only take accountability. Like you said, it just stops there. Like, it don't just stop there. Like, I took accountability. And then I just started working on myself, teaching myself self-love.
Starting point is 01:49:17 You don't even really know when you don't love yourself until you actually got time alone with yourself. Like, until you do it. Because I'm telling you, I was jumping from relationship to relationship, kept a roster, whatever, when I didn't want to be in a relationship. But I never, ever, ever sat by myself until mid-20s.
Starting point is 01:49:36 Yo, toward the end of my 20s, you know what? Being by myself actually does bring me peace. Well, that's good. You know what I'm saying? That's actually good and you know i would tell everybody out there you know that's by their self this morning oh boy if you think you lonely now Well, we got Jess with the mess.
Starting point is 01:50:11 Well, boy, when you try to go to sleep, man, when you're having dinner around 6 o'clock and it's just you and that plate. Jesus. Jess with the mess is next. So don't move. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Ladies, remember on this day, black men do not cheat. Black men don't cheat. Happy Valentine's it's the Breakfast Club, good morning Ladies, remember on this day Black men do not cheat
Starting point is 01:50:26 Black men don't cheat Happy Valentine's Day, the Breakfast Club Morning everybody, it's Steve I'm a Morgan Freeman Bunny hopping narcissist That admits that it's me I'm the problem, it's me, son We knew that, we knew that a long time ago
Starting point is 01:50:44 Yeah, okay, okay, okay Okay, Donnell is the problem I stare directly son oh we knew that we knew that a long time ago yeah okay okay okay that's what you okay donnell is the problem i stare directly into the sun but never in the mirror it must be so exhausting always searching for the anti-hero i admit it and it don't matter what type of mental health therapy session you try to have charlamagne and get this cult to follow you and think that you're just therapist nobody cares about that and people can be settled and people can admit and people can be settled and people can admit and people can be narcissists. That's the new wave, son.
Starting point is 01:51:08 Okay, bye. How long did it take you? Bye, have a great day. We love you. Have a great day. Bye. I'm just glad Donnell can admit that he's the problem, okay?
Starting point is 01:51:17 There's a bunch of y'all out there single today and you can't admit that you're the reason you're single because of your toxic traits. All right, well well let's get to jess with the mess yes it shows that usher only made 6711 at the Super Bowl. This is a very, very, in my opinion, misleading headline. Usher's halftime show used up so much of the budget that he reportedly only ended up making almost $700.
Starting point is 01:51:55 Okay, specifically $671. The budget was used to pay for the stage design and the dances, etc. Now, what people don't understand is this is a sag after rate right right and that that what i want you to explain further um a little bit charlemagne what sag after for people who don't understand it's just like the bare minimum it's a union yeah sag is a union because we're all part of a union so it's like a bare minimum you will get if you do something like this but people don't get paid for headlining the super bowl halftime show like they never do and that's one thing that i did not know yeah they just receive huge boost in like their screams and sales because they're performing in
Starting point is 01:52:32 front of an audience of over 100 million people and usher you know he performed this is the largest rated super bowl ever yeah you know they pay for production they pay for all the production that's usually what the super bowl pays for the production of the show his numbers are through the roof 550 spotify streaming boost uh caught up surged over 200 and he's got four songs that have surged more than 100 in streams since uh sunday night you don't have to call loving this club and bad girl it's like usher up right now but the perks of performing at the super bowl are worth it um usher is expected to make more than $100 million from his, like you said, increased streams of his music. Tickets to his upcoming tour, which I'm going on, oh my good. And endorsements stemming from the performance.
Starting point is 01:53:16 So that is good. But I just thought that was very misleading. He only made, they were trying to make a thing like, yeah, they gave him $700. So you go, thank you for doing all of this. To be honest with you, I'm shocked he got that. I'm shocked he got the SAG after minimum. I thought they didn't pay you anything at all. I know they pay for the production.
Starting point is 01:53:31 I mean, you're in the union, so you get something. You have to get paid. You get nothing. Yeah, you technically have to get paid. It's the Super Bowl, though, guys. I don't care. You got to recognize the opportunity when it's not a paycheck attached to it because there's so much money made on the back end.
Starting point is 01:53:43 He's on tour now. But do you understand that even just us not knowing like and i'm saying us because i know it's a lot of people who didn't know that us not knowing that you would think something like that that these artists that's like an iconic thing i would think that people are getting paid to do that amen i would think that so i know millions and millions of other people think that they just didn't know that people people think that but now yeah To get the opportunity to perform in front of 100 million people? Yes, yes. Well, you learn something new every day.
Starting point is 01:54:09 You learn something new every day, and that's what I learned, and so did some others out there. Jennifer Lopez reveals her kids, like her old music better. In an interview with Variety, Jennifer Lopez shared her kids' thoughts on her music. Her upcoming album is called This Is Me Now, and it's followed up with her album this is me then uh the album came out in 2002 she was playing her album for our kids in the house
Starting point is 01:54:32 and they said this you mommy and she said yes uh she told him that she wrote herself the new one right and it was like we like your old music better now i didn't know that she had 15 year old twins i didn't know that um but congratulations on Max and me for keeping it real with her these are some of her older hits the saying we love Ashanti that's basically what you can't say no listen that JLo murder Inc Ja Rule Ashanti right that era was a great era yeah it was that was a great era and them kids know good music. That's right. They know good music when they hear it. So this is me. We want a shot.
Starting point is 01:55:10 Yeah, that's what she's telling us. Like, this is really me now. Ain't no shot to hit now. We don't want you, mama. We want a shot to hit. Jesus. I love it. But it be your own kids.
Starting point is 01:55:21 The kids will tell you, yo. So listen to your kids. All right. Party in Jada Kingdom video has been believing. What? Uh-uh. All right. So basically, Party in Jada Kingdom, it was a video posted or whatever where he's like
Starting point is 01:55:36 rubbing on her stomach and she seems to be irritated and annoyed. And fans are speculating that she's not really into him. Party Fontaine, you know, they have a public relationship. And some of some of the comments i just wanted to i know we got to wrap this up but let me just read a little bit of the comments so they're just getting because she looks annoyed but then she eventually gives him a kiss and you know and she gives in a little bit but she looks annoyed which happens in relationships sometimes chris got on my nerves i get on his nerves it is what it is i'm pretty sure yeah in house, you get on your wife's nerves. I'm just leaving it there because I don't know if she get on yours, but you definitely get on hers.
Starting point is 01:56:12 You get what I'm saying? People are saying maybe she's pregnant and she's annoyed because he's exposing the fact that she is. And then also, she look like she don't want him touching her. He giving, I'm trying to make somebody jealous. He's corny and it's obvious that he's uh doing too much talking and he's and she's over this yo and then the amount of comments i mean the amount of likes on these comments you bitter black bitches gotta chill i'm so sick of this put the gun away jess put the gun away i'm telling you yo i'm so sick of it it's like yo it it happens it's a very real
Starting point is 01:56:47 thing why should everything online look perfect yeah the internet stay projected i'm so sick of it like y'all do stay projected like you never you've never annoyed your significant other your significant other ain't never been annoyed at you y'all ain't in no relationship that ain't no relationship y'all no uh so on love day i i I do want to give you credit for your donkey of the day because people, these same people liking these comments are the same people that scared us to accountability and they lonely today and just going to be online all day looking for stuff to not like, looking for stuff to hate. God, that's the mess.
Starting point is 01:57:19 All right. Put the gun away, Jess. Jesus. That's Jess with the mess and her news is real. Yes, it is. Allegedly. All right. All right. Well, let's get to the mix before i get to the mix i just want to shout uh salute to everybody in atlanta i'm in atlanta now and last night they had the tycoon weekend with uh

Starting point is 01:58:23 Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha God. We are the Breakfast Club. It's Black History Month. What we doing? So to my guy B-Dot, man, you know, every day during Black History Month, my guy B-Dot puts out an episode of I Didn't Know, Maybe You Didn't Either on the Black Effect iHeartRadio podcast network. And today, he's going to tell you the story of the Friendship Nine, a group of young men who made history with a sit-in protest at a segregated lunch counter in 1961. Check it out. On today's episode of I Didn't Know, Maybe You Didn't Either, I introduce to you John
Starting point is 01:58:53 Gaines, Thomas Gaither, Clarence Graham, Willie McLeod, Robert McCullough, Willie Massey, James Wells, David Williamson, and Mac Workman. The Friendship Nine. I grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina, Cumberland Courts to be exact, which was a rock's throw away from the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University, the largest public HBCU in these United States of America. Also the home of the A&T four, Ezell Blair, Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil, and David Richmond. The four Aggie students that sat at the segregated lunch counter
Starting point is 01:59:33 in Woolworths, downtown Greensboro, February 1st, 1960. Now, what I wasn't familiar with was the story of the 10 brothers that attended Friendship Junior College, who would have a similar powerful sit-in at McCrory's segregated lunch counter, 100 miles south of A&T, just one year later, January 31st, 1961. The 10 gentlemen walked into the McCrory's segregated restaurant, ordered cheeseburgers, soft drinks, and coffees. Of course, they were denied service, and they were asked to leave.
Starting point is 02:00:08 When they declined, they were arrested. They got charged with trespassing and breach of order. Please see episode 308 of this season to remember where no trespassing laws originated. They were ordered to spend 30 days in jail in the York County prison, or they could pay the $100 fine and be sent on their way. What made the Friendship Nines sit in so different was because they activated the new method of resistance that was supported by Dr. Martin Luther King. It was called Jail No Bail,
Starting point is 02:00:35 where you take the jail time and you decline the fine where you basically concede in guilt. And I know somebody out there saying, wait, Doc, you said 10 boys went into that McCrory's. Why did the Friendship Nine? Because nine of them said they was going to take the jail no bail punishment. The 10th member, Charles Taylor, he paid his $100 bail because he didn't want to mess up and lose his football scholarship. Man, the Friendship Nine did their 30 days, and it was tough.
Starting point is 02:00:58 They had hard labor, solitary confinement. They had food rations to the point where they just went on a food fast there was a story documented that a prisoner in a cell beside theirs actually slid them a baby ruth and split it up into eight pieces which was strange to me when i read that story because i said what happened to the ninth piece the story goes they had to share that baby ruth for three days i know you think i'm cap google it yourself in. In 2007, 46 years later, the city of Rock Hill unveiled a marker right outside the old McCrory's in the honor of the Friendship Nine. Eight of the men were still living and present at the ceremony. And now that I think about it, it was probably
Starting point is 02:01:36 the eight men that had the baby Ruth. Now 135 East Main Street in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where the McCrory's once stood, is a nice building. And in the hallway of this building, they dedicated a museum to the Friendship Nine, where it actually documents their 30 days of madness. Oh, yeah. In 2015, all their convictions were overturned. The judge at that time was John C. Hayes, the third. And he said, we can't rewrite history, but we can write history. And I didn't know. Maybe you didn't either.
Starting point is 02:02:09 All right, well, salute to BDOT. That's right. And make sure you subscribe to his podcast. I didn't know. Maybe you didn't either. Every day during Black History Month, even on the weekends, BDOT puts out a new episode. So go check it out. All right. When we come back, we got the positive note.
