Hey guys, I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show,
where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more.
After those runs, the conversations keep going.
That's what my podcast, Post Run High, is all about.
It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories,
their journeys, and the thoughts that
arise once we've hit the pavement together. Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I planted the flag. This is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete.
Or maybe not.
No country willingly gives up their territory.
Oh my God.
What is that?
Bullets.
Listen to Escape from Zaka-stan.
We need help!
That's Escape from Z-A-Q-a-stan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hello, my undeadly darlings.
It's Teresa, your resident ghost host.
And do I have a treat for you.
Haunting is crawling out from the shadows, and it's going to be devilishly good.
We've got chills, thrills, and stories that'll make you wish the lights stayed on.
So join me, won't you?
Let's dive into the eerie unknown together.
Sleep tight, if you can.
Listen to Haunting on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist who on October 16th, 2017, was assassinated.
Crooks Everywhere unearthed the plot to murder a one-woman WikiLeaks.
She exposed the culture of crime and corruption
that were turning her beloved country into a mafia state.

Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hi, I'm Marie.
And I'm Sydney.
And we're Mess.
Well, not a mess, but on our podcast called Mess, we celebrate all things messy.
But the gag is, not everything is a mess.
Sometimes it's just living.
Yeah, things like J-Lo on her third divorce.
Living.
Girls' trip to Miami.
Mess.
Breaking up with your girlfriend while on Instagram Live.
Living.
It's kind of mess.
Yeah.
Well, you get it.
Got it?
Live, love, mess.
Listen to Mess with Sydney Washington and Marie Faustin on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts with it. Strike a clean time.
You think I'm going to come here when this shit ain't hot?

Being here next to all of you guys, it's really big.
It's one of my favorite shows to do.
Just because y'all always keep it 100, y'all keep it real.

My good sister Angela Rye is here.
The Mental Wealth Expo is tomorrow, my third annual Mental Wealth Expo, and Angela Rye will be
one of the panelists at the Mental Wealth Expo.
Yes, indeed. So she decided to come
kick it with us on a Friday morning. She don't
want to be here, though. Bright and early.
Why you say she don't want to be here? She don't want to be here.
I always love seeing you guys.
Seeing, seeing. That don't mean you really want to be here. Well, I am always happy to be here. She don't want to be here. That's right, nerd. I always love seeing you guys. Seeing, seeing. That don't mean you really want to be here.
Well, I am always happy to be here.
This is fam.
We're good.
She was here 45 minutes before you, Charlamagne.
30 minutes before me.
Tell him.
Yep, and she was excited.
She was ready to rock and roll.
We already ordered breakfast.
She's ready to rock and go.
Okay.
All right.
Ready to rock and go.
You know what I'm saying?
You get whiter and whiter every day.
No, rock and roll would be...
Rock and go.
I said rock and roll would have been white, so I said rock and go.
Yeah, but when white people are trying to sound cool, they just mix things up.
Mix things up.
I'm ready to go and rock and roll.
I'm ready to go and rock and roll.
We just put them together.
I'm ready to rock and go.
That's both.
It's going to be prejudice on a Friday.
That's right.
Okay.
And she's going to be holding down front page news as well.
Yep.
Now we got some special guests joining us this morning.
Stephen A. Smith will be here.
Yes, he will be here.
We got a lot to discuss.
Of course, there's a lot going on with sports and
more, so we'll talk to him. And his book just got
a reprint, which
is very, very, very big in the book world.
That's right. You know, that means that people are buying
your book. Purchasing the book. The first
run sold out. That's right. Yes.
And also, Kirk Franklin will be
joining us this morning. Man, if you have not watched
Kirk Franklin's documentary, Father's
Day, do yourself a favor and watch it.
You know, we have all of these conversations
about healing your inner child.
There is not too many pieces of content out there right now
that shows somebody really dealing with their inner child
in real time the way Kirk Franklin's
Father's Day documentary does.
That's right.
And OVO Eli, you know, so we have a producer up here.
His name is OVO Eli is what we call him.
Eli, where you at?
I wish Eli could walk in here.
First of all, Eli has been wearing OVO merchandise all week long.
Oh, he has a t-shirt today.
I didn't even know Drake had sneakers.
Yeah, no, Drake has sneakers.
He told me yesterday, and I'm not even lying.
He told me Drake had underwear.
Yes.
Didn't you tell me Drake had underwear?
What's the brand?
October's Very Own and Knocked Up.
Two different brands.
The fact he knows that off the top of his head.
He got the Drake t-shirt on this morning.
He got a For The Dogs shirt.
For The Dogs shirt.
It says For The Dogs in the back.
Drake sneakers.
I can't even believe he's in here working with us this morning.
Because I feel like he'd be in there trying to listen to the album.
Didn't the album drop a couple minutes ago?
Yeah.
Is it out yet?
You know what I'm saying?
Is it out?
Talk into the microphone, Eli.
It's out.
It's out for all the dogs, yes sir.
Did you see it out?
Yeah, I'm listening to it
Are y'all barking?
Huh?
Are y'all barking?
Are we?
Woof!
Wait, Embry, don't you identify as a dog?
Sometimes, sometimes, sometimes
When the hell did that happen?
You a golden retriever?
Oh my God!
I'm a German shepherd, sir
No, you're not
Yes, I am
No, you're not
Yes, I am, sir
When did that happen?
When he started identifying as a dog.
And when did all of these people start taking sorority and fraternity stuff?
You got Sexy Red saying, ski-ee.
You got Drake saying he a dog and barking.
It is ski-ee.
Ski-wee.
Ski-ski.
Oh, it's ski-wee.
I'm sorry, AKs.
My bad.
Jesus Christ.
It's rough.
It's a rough morning.
Do we got a Drake song? We got one in? I didn't go to college. You're not ready to rock and go. See here? I'm not ready to rock and go. See, you're. My bad. Jesus Christ. It's a rough morning. Do we got a Drake song?
We got one in?
You're not ready to rock and go.
See here?
See, you're not ready to rock and go.
See, that's your problem.
All right.
Well, let's get the show cracking.
We're going to start off with a Drake joint.
This is the record off the new Drake album?
Yeah.
What song is this?
OVO made him put it in.
So, hold on.
How much more time do we need?
What song is it?
We need 20 seconds.
They're going to tell us in a second.
We got to make sure it's clean.
What song is it, OVO?
You just never know.
First Person Shooter featuring Cole. Is it clean? Yes, it's clean. It's clean to tell us in a second. We got to make sure it's clean. What song is it? You just never know. First Person Shooter featuring Cole.
Is it clean?
Yes, it's clean.
It's clean?
You cleaned it?
All right.
Well, here's the record right here.
First Person Shooter?
Oh, this is the one with 21 Savage?
Okay.
All right.
Well, let's get into it.
This is Joyne off the album.
We're going to be playing Joyne's All Morning Long.
And it's the Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
All right.
That's off the Drake album for All My Dogs.
All Morning Long.
We're going to be playing Drake Cuts.
That one was featuring 21 Savage.
We ain't even get to 21.
That song is four minutes long.
When in a lot of times you see a four minute song.
Long time.
I ain't seen a four minute song in a long time.
Long time.
We're going to be playing joints all morning long.
Was that Friday on the background vocals?
Sounded like it, right?
I don't know.
It's the first time I heard it like you.
All right.
Well, let's get in some front page news.
We got to congratulate Teslin Fig Figueroa right now.
Yesterday, she won the Minority Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
So congratulations to Tez.
She's traveling.
But Angela Rye is here.
We got to start off with some sports now.
And some surprising news.
The Chicago Bears beat the Commanders yesterday 40-20.
Yeah, I told Dingo, one of our longtime listeners, that they was going to get washed.
Was it Dingo that called that? It was Dingo. I, that they was going to get washed. Was it Dingo?
It was Dingo. I told him they was going to get washed.
And the best, yeah, he was right.
They definitely won. And we got to say rest in peace
to Dick Buckus.
Wow. Damn. His name.
You guys. Why are you going to
do that after rest in peace?
God. Damn, man.
Wow.
This is a cold place. I can't work with him.
I feel like you said wow first.
He said wow first?
No, he said wow. His name is Dick
Butkus. Yes, man.
Dick Butkus, man. God dang.
He is not alive.
He's a legendary Bears linebacker.
I said rest in peace. He died at the age of
80. Can you make fun of his name?
Maybe that's why the Bears won in memory of him because
you know they were the worst team in football so absolutely right did it for 80 feels young
nowadays it does yes but rest in peace to dick butt kiss we moving on you guys seriously so
since we're coming in hot let's come in red hot with sexy red before we even get into this can
we please just play the audio hey is there do you
think more people are going to support trump now and i don't know yeah they support him in the hood
because at first i don't think people was with him like they thought he was racist saying little
and you know against women but once he started getting black people out of jail and giving
people their free money oh baby we love trump we need them back in office yeah a little bit of free money goes a long way we need them back because
baby them checks oh yes them stimulus checks trump we miss you that's like whoa vicky she's
always talking about trump you see her ever i like trump no i ain't never seen what she's funny
i love trump though he funny to me like i used to watch his interview. Not interviews. Like, him talking to people.
He used to be calling people fat.
Yeah.
He just funny.
He funny.
Like, we need people like him.
Okay, Angela.
What are the facts of this situation?
Lord have mercy.
Because he is funny.
So, okay.
Here's what I want to start with.
I want to shout out our dear brother, Wes Bellamy, who said we have to start acknowledging our political privilege.
So, let me acknowledge mine.
That is the world that I grew up in.
That's what I know. So I want
to start there with compassion. She doesn't know
any better, but I've heard this come up lots
of times with callers here. So I was like,
let's finally address this. Freeing the homies
and free money. So did he
really free the homies? Because what I know
about is everyone that either has
a platform, is platform adjacent
had a sentence
commuted or was pardoned under trump the truth of the matter is donald trump's record on pardons
is the worst since 1945 of any president so he didn't really free the homies second i think
people talk about the first step back though what about that i think that's fair but i still think
we have to acknowledge that the pardons which she referenced hodak black she referenced little wayne we got to talk about
the pardon record is abysmal secondly ppp you know what it took to get ppp money even though
he asked for his signature to be on those checks so he could get the credit votes from congress
an act of congress yes the house and the senate had to vote to approve PPP. And here's what I want you to say with me, since you all are in a great reciting mood this morning.
PPP.
PPP.
Ain't free.
PPP.
You know why?
Because PPP was a loan.
It was provided relief during COVID.
And here is the most important thing.
Everybody that took that COVID money and thought that it was free money and went to buy Lamborghinis
or maybe even they went to buy groceries,
but they did it under false pretenses
and it was fraudulent.
Guess what there is?
A small business administration,
Office of Inspector General,
and they caught cases.
They were convicted.
They were arrested.
And some of them are serving time.
Oh, they'll be catching those for the next 10 years.
That's what I'm saying.
So it's not free money. And so I want her to be very careful with that with her point of privilege, arrested and some of them are serving time. Oh, they'll be catching those for the next 10 years. That's what I'm saying.
So it's not free money.
And so I want her to be very careful with that,
with her point of privilege,
which is a platform that is expansive.
So the other thing I wanted to get to,
shout out to BET,
is there is a new president of Boston University. It is a black woman, first woman, first black person.
And so shout out to President Gilliam,
who is in this role, is very important.
77.2% of college presidents are white.
So we still wake up a very small 13.6%. I also want us to look at CEOs of Fortune 500 companies.
There are only six black CEOs right now of the Fortune 500.
So when you look at the assault on affirmative action, you see everything else that's going on.
It's important for us to celebrate wins, but also challenge people on equity.
So while affirmative action is under attack, we still got a long way to go.
We're dropping the clues, Bob, with President Gillum.
I do want to say one thing about the Trump situation.
Everything you said is absolutely correct.
But the problem here is Dems messaging, right?
Like whose fault is it that Trump is just better at marketing?
Because he put his name on them checks.
I mean, and that was it was a smart move.
But I think that what we have to acknowledge is, yes, you guys cannot afford to give up on the base.
You need to be communicating and combating misinformation.
This is low hanging fruit. Talk to people about the CARES Act.
Celebrate that. A lot of the Cbc members did that but not everybody did and
they've stopped we still need to be talking about and taking pictures with them rappers when he
parted little wayne and wayne came to see him and they took that picture and it went crazy viral
he took on that kodak with kodak too right well you know kodak got a chain with donald trump's
head on it i'm just saying a lot his marketing is just much better and the messaging is just
much better than uh the. That's it.
Well, if we focus on the marketing and not political impact, we're going to be in for a real challenge.
And that's why I think the point that Wes raised about political privilege is really important.
Let's tell people what the real impacts are, not just the marketing.
Well, that is front page news.
Now, get it off your chest.
800-585-1051. If you need to vent, phone lines are wide open.
Again, 800-585-1051. Call us up right vent, phone lines are wide open. Again, 800-585-1051.

We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club.

Hey, it's your boy, Dingo.
What's up, y'all?
Okay, Dingo.
Okay, Dingo.
That's right.
Talk your talk, Dingo.
Talk that talk.
That's right, baby.
It's the grid.
It's the grid.
All your bands
in this thing, baby.
40 to 20,
we wax that behind.
You're dicking a waxing
behind. Say rest in peace to Dick
Buckus. Hey, rest in peace to the
legendary Dick Buckus, man. First and
foremost, but hey, Bear showed
out and showed up last night. You feel me?
We had a taste of it last week, but
now, we really, really put
it in place. So, shout out to that man, Justin
Fields, side of the DJ Moore.
Come on now. We up there. We doing
that thing. We doing that thing. I told y'all.
I'm glad y'all beat the Redskins. Anytime somebody in the
NFC East lose, I'm happy. Hey, look.
Well, all I want to say is I called in. They
heard me, and I'm
on that. So, hey, Bears,
y'all listen to me. Get your boy Dingo a sweet
at the next home game. They ain't gonna do
all that now. They ain't gonna do all that now.
Congratulations, Dingo.
Thank y'all.
Hey, shout out to Angela Rye.
You so fine, girl.
Knock it off.
This is crazy.
He didn't say he wanted to holler.
He just said she was fine.
What's wrong with you?
Protecting your brother.
Yo, Envy, what's up?
What's up, Charlamagne?
What's up, Angela?
Hi.
What's up, brother?
It's Marty.
What's going on?
Marty.
What's up, Marty?
Yo, I'm really mad at y'all, man.
For real, for real, yo.
Wow.
Angela.
All right.
Angela's talking about giving a shout out to the lady who's the first black something.
It's like I constantly keep reaching out to you guys to help me become the first black uniform manufacturer for the United States Postal Service.
And it's like I just keep getting crapped on with y'all, man.
And I love you guys.
I listen to y'all every day.
I support your platform and the whole notch. And, Charlamagne, you know, when you was going to South Carolina for Thanksgiving and Christmas,
I used to hook you up with the T-shirts to take down there, the South Carolina Born and Bred.
But yet and still, it's like I keep reaching out to y'all.
And then last time when I spoke to y'all
Y'all was like
Talk to the producer
And then y'all hung up the phone
Right at the end of the conversation
Marty
The producer must have hung up on you
Marty
But that's what I'm
Marty
We put you on air
Every time you call
To talk about what you need to talk about
Marty
Can I give him a recommendation?
Yeah
But I need you guys help man
I need your help
Marty
Can I tell you something? The first thing that And I follow you guys' help, man. I need your help. Marty, Marty. Can I tell you something?
The first thing that's...
And I follow you, Angela.
Marty, Marty, Marty.
You know the best way to get help is to listen.
Let me just tell you one thing that's so important.
Do you know what's happening with the Postal Service right now?
Talk to me, Angela.
There's a massive decline.
Like, remember when you used to see, like, the mailboxes on the corner?
You used to see a lot of them.
You're not seeing those as many so maybe since ups just got a really big raise they're making six figures maybe you should
look at making uniforms for other businesses that will stick around it's a quasi-governmental
agency usps but you also want to look at wealth tsa is not going anywhere maybe you can get a federal contract with them right no secret service let's see what here's the thing i've done i've done
uniforms for ups i had jeff bezos recommend me to one of his um top people to do amazon uniforms
minorities get crapped on fedex the same thing i could have had a FedEx contract and what happened? The white man said,
nope, we don't want to deal with the black people.
So, Marty, what do you want, Marty?
What do you want from us, Marty?
You can make clothes for senior citizens since there's so many
old people.
I actually gave you good
business advice. I hope you listen to it.
So many old people in government, you can make
clothes that got built in diapers?
Marty, give me your information
just in case an executive is listening and needs
some clothes. Give me your
email or something, your uniforms.
646.
Email.
Email, Marty.
I mean, Marty, you don't
listen.

800-585-1051
If you need to hit us up now
Salute to Marty
It's the Breakfast Club
Good morning
The Breakfast Club
This is your time to get it off your chest.
800-585-1051.
We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club.
Hello, who's this?
This is Liam's dad.
How y'all doing?
Good morning, good morning.
Who's that?
Liam's dad.
Yeah.
Hey, listen, on the PPP loan, my son.
Oh.
I just like to use that, man. Hey, but listen, on the PPP loan, my son. Oh. I just like to use that, man.
But listen, on the PPP loan, man,
I know a lot of people that
a lot of partners of mine, they got the
loan and they flipped that money. They did good
by that money. You can't reference
everything with the negative
people that did, you know, all the negative
stuff and went to prison and all like that.
Because you had to pay that loan
back 25, what'd they get you, 25 years to pay it back?
$2 a week or something like that.
So it's a lot of people that did good with that money.
Ms. Rod or Angela Rod.
You can say Angela, but Liam's dad,
let me just tell you one thing.
You're talking about two different programs.
There's PPP and then there's the EIDL loan, right?
And so there are people who did right.
I'm not talking about them.
I'm talking about the notion
that it was free money.
It's a loan.
So it's not free money.
But it's a loan,
but you didn't have to pay
that back right away.
You had to pay that
within 25 years.
And it was like $2 a week
or something like that.
And then another thing,
your partner, Masar,
he a sucker too.
He a sucker.
You put your feet on the ground, but that dude a sucker.
He take advantage of opportunities and don't do nothing.
Stop, stop, stop.
That is not true.
Stop on my side.
My son's feet are always on the ground.
My son is currently in Kentucky right now.
He use the opportunity, man.
He use situations and use the opportunity.
He don't got risk
he put his name behind that
black lives matter and they do nothing
my son is not a part of black lives matter
my son is a part of
untel freedom and I hate when people call up here and
disrespect folks like my son
in and of itself they have
to stop doing that too but also
if you have to pay it back if it's a
penny a week it's still
a loan it's not free money yeah but it's two different things right there was a loan there
was a sba loan that a lot of people got small business alone that people were able to take a
loan and they have to pay that back and if you got the ppp and you actually put the ppp towards your
actual business and you had employees to play or i kept your job up keep you don't have to pay it
but that was that is forgiveness But that was PPP.
That is loan forgiveness.
Yeah, that was loan forgiveness.
But that's still not free money.
Totally two different things, right?
But they're both not free money.
Correct.
They're both loans.
It's two different loan programs.
I mean, none of it's free
because it's tax-paid dollars.
Right.
Right?
That's true, too.
You better raise that.
That's a good word.
I just don't like
when people do that.
My son is literally
in Kentucky right now.
Yeah, absolutely.
Boots on the ground
trying to keep
Daniel Cameron from being devil.
I was like,
who did he say?
I thought he said my son
cause Liam
he started
Liam's dad
I was so confused
my son's a sucker
that's what I said
my son
I was confused too
I was like I must not
have heard what he said
he said my son's a sucker
I said why you calling
your son a sucker
I was confused
cause he was calling
him at the beginning
Liam's dad
hello
I'm sorry
what's your name mama
my name is CCB
ok CCB um Okay, CCB.
Yeah, I like to get off my chest.
Two things.
The Waffle House, Verizon, and my dad all let me down in life because they forgot my bacon.
That's three things.
But that's neither here nor there.
Waffle House, my dad, and Verizon.
That's three things, too.
It is what it is.
It is what it is.
I would be mad if they forgot my bacon, too.
And what's the second thing?
Yandy, last week or whatever week, that whole thing with she who may not be named,
when she said that monkey comment, I didn't like that because Yandy said
she offended everybody of African descent.
And we know anything.
Dominicans are African descent.
So I just wanted to say, Yandy, you a weenie for that.
I didn't like that, and it's missing on my conscience.
And I'll talk to y'all later.
All right.
I'm sorry about your bacon.
She hung right up.
That was a good little history lesson.
What?
She said Dominicans are African descent.
I'm not Dominican.
Watch your mouth.
That's how I know where this is going.
And you've never used that.
I'm not Dominican.
The slave ships went to different locations.
That's right.
And not everybody
from the DR is of African
descent, but a large swath of them are.
For sure. Alright, well get it off your chest.
800-585-1051.
If you need to vent, you can talk to
us. Young Miami.
She tells why Diddy gives her
so much praise. That's right.
Angela Rye, you can't put a political spin on this one.
I want to hear it. I don't know this. I want to hear it. But we'll talk about it when we come
back. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club.
As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know
what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt,
learning to trust herself,
and leaning into her dreams.
I think a lot of times we are built to doubt
the possibilities for ourselves.
For self-preservation and protection,
it was literally that step by step.
And so I discovered that
that is how we get where we're going.
This increment of small, determined moments.
Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love.
I forgive myself.
It's okay.
Like grace.
Have grace with yourself.
You're trying your best.

Feeling tired? Depressed?
A little bit revolutionary?
Consider this. Start your own country.
I planted the flag. I just kind of
looked out of like, this is mine. I own
this. It's surprisingly easy.
There's 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete.
Everybody's doing it.

Why can't I trade my own country? My forefathers did that themselves.
What could go wrong?
No country willingly gives up their territory. Well, why can't I trade my own country? My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong?
No country willingly gives up their territory.
I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead.
Oh my God.
What is that?
Bullets.
Bullets.

studies human behavior. On my podcast, A Slight Change of Plans, I marry science and storytelling to better understand how to navigate
the big changes in our lives. It was like a slow nightmare, you know, because every day you think,
oh, surely tomorrow I'll be better. And I would dream of being better. At night, I would dream
that my face was quote unquote normal or back to the way it was. And I'd wake up and there'd be no
change. I also speak with scientists about how we'd wake up and there'd be no change.
I also speak with scientists about how we can be more resilient in the face of change.
You can think of the adolescent brain as like this social R&D engine of our culture.

the guy we are the breakfast club Angela Rye is here and let get in some, let's get to the rumors. Rumor has it, rumor, rumor has it.
Call out her name or you gossiping or you chatty patty.
I'm gossiping.
This is the rumor report.
I mean, I guess we on the Breakfast Club.
This is where the tea spills, right?
Right.
Let's bring Angela Rye to the bottom with us.
Here we go.
We got some good mess this morning.
Let's start with Young Miami now.
Young Miami is given reason for why Diddy praises her so often. Now recently
Diddy says she reminds me of Oprah
with endless possibilities that she has
as far as her clothing line, television shows,
performances, live podcasts.
I really respect both of their hustles and see
them being able to break through.
And he was referring that Young Miami
reminds him of Oprah.
Well she responded, well the reason he does
all of this is because I F on him so good
that nigga stay
giving me my flowers.
Damn.
Thoughts?
I did that.
That escalated quickly.
Even on a Friday.
Yeah, so
that's why Young Miami
says Diddy praises her
so often.
But why can't he just say
Miami has potential
to be like,
you know,
a great mogul one day?
Because as soon as you say
something like Oprah,
people automatically dismiss it. Really? Absolutely. because you feel like you can't get to that
oprah level most people can't and by the way the reality is you don't know if young miami can get
to oprah level uh because we don't know what the future holds for folks i think for people look at
folks now and they're like oh i can't see that but that don't mean that it can't happen that
just mean that you can't see it right now but who knows what young miami gonna be in 10 years 15 years you know the only thing i would say to this is i remember seeing the first
like clip from the carisha please right yes and i'm like she is actually a really really good
interviewer she has a way of disarming people to get them to tell them all their business like y'all
like she has a way and so i really think that that's
impressive and because she's so skilled um as a hip-hop artist as well he might be onto something
he knows her better than we do you never know yeah and i think with carisha i think she's one of them
like she's an artist like them so she knows what you know what makes people comfortable and she's
able to talk from the side of i'm just like you yeah yeah just don't compare to nobody because
it's like you know people sometimes sometimes people just don't compare to nobody because it's like, you know, people,
sometimes people have an,
they'll start looking
for an expectation.
They'll start looking
for Oprah in her
and she's not that.
She's Carisha.
Well, in Next Generation,
maybe she is.
You never know.
Yeah.
You never know what people,
what people's arc
will turn into,
their story arc.
I'm impressed.
She was supposed to
guest host with us.
Oh, I love that.
She said she'll come
guest host with us.
She did say that.
Hopefully she'll still come through. I definitely want to see that. Now through now boosie he was at the bet awards and he was speaking on uh the
importance of the older generation embracing the younger generation a lot of times you know the
older artists don't want to f with the younger artists and all the younger artists don't want
to f with the older artists and this is what boosie said when it comes to independent being
independent and new artists coming in the game like you're doing, you're handing down the knowledge,
how important is that for the big OGs helping out the YGs?
It's important because a lot of youngers looked up to the old,
and we got to motivate them and give them game.
I'm always motivating the youngsters.
That's why all the youngsters love me, because I'm motivating them.
I want to see them win.
I want everybody to win.
That's why I always win.
I don't have hate in my heart.
When you have hate in your heart, you're going
to end up falling. So I always want to see
everybody win. And that's what I tell
the youngsters. I always give them game. Anyone
I'm going to tell you. I always, I don't
be quiet around. I give them game.
I totally agree. Drop on the clues bombs for Boosie.
That's all I'm here for, you know.
To be of service to the next generation.
I love being the adult I needed as a child.
If I can make someone's path easier, I'm going to do it.
And some of the main artists that I see do it a lot is, of course, Jay-Z does it with a lot of the younger artists.
50 Cent does it with a lot of the younger artists.
And I see them two do it a lot.
Snoop does it with a lot of the younger artists as well, where they give them that game.
And they're not charging for it.
It's like they want to help.
Angela Rye, you do that for politics.
I like to try.
I do my very best.
I would just say the part about
not having any hate in his heart,
I might take issue with.
Oh.
Why do you say that?
I mean, he's done some things
that have been hurtful to some other communities.
Oh, but that don't mean that he...
I get what you're saying,
but that don't mean it's with malicious intent.
I think sometimes we might do things
and say things and they might hurt people or hurt a community.
But that's not our intention.
That's fair.
So I just just like we were talking about sexy right earlier.
I just want him to be open to learning, to not being hurtful.
But it is good that he's inspiring and being open to teaching young artists.
Birdman does it.
I know Fat Joe does it.
I'm trying to think of some of the other artists that do it.
All right.
Now, also for all the dogs, Drake's album is out right now.
It's finally out.
It was released this morning at 6 a.m.
Is our producer Eli doing outfit changes?
His Instagram is OVO Eli.
He's literally been wearing OVO merchandise all week long because of him.
I now know that OVO even has underwear.
But is he doing outfit changes this morning?
I believe so.
Okay.
I told him to listen to the album and give us a breakdown of what Drake is talking about now.
So far on the album, we can see 21 Savage, J. Cole, Yeet, SZA, Party Next Door, Chief Keef, Bad Bunny, Sexy Red, Lil Yachty, and more.
So we look forward to listening to that album.
He has a song on his album called Virginia Beach I want to hear.
And let's get into a song right now.
Everybody, there's speculation that that might be a disreq into Pusha T
I doubt it though
I think we'd have
heard that by now
that'd have been
all over the internet
by now if it was
well it just came out
it's been an hour
people have rated it
a classic I'm sure
all they need is
30-50 minutes
they probably right
they just gotta get
through it one time
well let's get into
this joint right now
this is called
First Person Shooter
this is Drake featuring
J. Cole
and when we come back we got front page news.
Angela Rice holding that down.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
The Breakfast Club.
Your mornings will never be the same.
Tough, tough, tough.
Very tough.
You said I'm one away from Michael.
You better beat it.
Yeah, that record's tough.
Tough two.
That was J. Cole, Drake of Drake's album.
He said, we the big three like we started a league.
Talking about K. Aubrey and Cole.
I love what he said.
What he said, love when they argue the big three, K. Aubrey and me.
That's like an updated bar when Jay said people argue all day about who's the best MC, Biggie, Jay-Z, and Nas.
Nothing to say about that tune.
Tough tune.
Jinx.
Tough tune. Double jinx. What I Nothing to say about that tune. Tough tune. Jinx. Tough tune.
Double jinx.
What I mean?
I was watching my kids' movies.
All right.
Well, let's get to some front page news.
Parents out there know.
All right.
Well, last night in sports, the Chicago Bears beat the Commanders 40-20.
So congratulations to the Chicago Bears.
And also, we got to send a rest in peace to Dick Butkus.
He's a Hall of Fame and legendary Bears linebacker.
Rest in peace, Dick Butkus, man.
Angela Rye?
Are y'all ready? Yes, ma'am. Okay, great.
So speaking of Butkus,
I wanted to...
Don't start!
There's a transition!
Rest in power, sir.
But also, speaking of butt kiss, toilets.
I would like to talk to you all about your toilet habits.
Yes.
Tell the truth, naked and not ashamed truth before God.
Do you or do you not use your phone while you're on the toilet?
All the time.
That's usually when I'm on it the most.
I take in BS while I'm letting out BS.
So I like being on social media while i'm on the
toilet when i used to be on twitter i used to call it uh twitter on the okay yes okay mv i used to
deep thought about this but i don't anymore so i i have a a new toilet that is heated um tell the
truth as a massager about the heat don't As a massager Tell us what else it got
It has a bidet
It got that bidet
It has a bidet
So after you finish pooping
It cleans out the area
The bidet is when you can
Press the button
And then the water
Squirts in your butt
And then you can
Press the other button
And the air dries
Sometimes bidets have
Handle knobs
Yes
Yeah no
Mine is
You got a rocker like this
With the water going
Digital yeah
So you can get the front
And the back
Slide Slide And then it has another button We you can't even get to the dang article
because look at this fool sliding around on the invisible bidet right now and then if you are if
you're a woman it has the front part where it could shoot the front or the back i'll be wanting
to press the front just to see what it feel like i ain't did it yet though i don't have one at the
house but when i stay in hotels and they got it i'll be like shit i just want to press the front
see what it feel like. They got a massage.
It's a little massages.
You know, the water, you know, spiral.
You can spiral the water.
And then.
But yeah.
So when I'm on my bed.
Now.
So back to the actual article, which is about using your devices on the toilet.
Here's the thing that got me.
Leonard, you know this.
I am a germaphobe.
It gives me anxiety.
It says the average smartphone is dirtier than a public toilet.
Oh, I believe that.
And they discourage the use of devices on the toilet because this gastroenterologist is saying that made you have to get up.
I'm just going to get a wipe.
Yeah, give me a wipe too.
But you know how that makes sense?
Wait, but this gastroenterologist says he also discourages it because, you know social media for example thank you my friend social media for example can be distracting so
you're sitting there a long time which can cause hemorrhoids so for two reasons it's dirty af and
also you don't want to have hemorrhoids and when you take your phone in the bathroom the e-coli
and fecal matter that's floating around in the bathroom and think about how you should have to
wipe your phone you're the main one.
You said you'd be boo-booing.
Let's give him a wipe.
That's my point.
Can we do a wipe test?
Yes, you wipe.
Let's see how clean your wipe is.
Pass me a wipe.
Okay, okay.
You on the toilet, you wiping your butt, you peeing,
and then you still touching your phone before you even wash your hands.
Okay, okay, okay.
Now let's do the wipe test.
Don't try to hide your wipe, Envy.
Don't get a new wipe.
I'm drying it now.
I actually washed my hands before I peed.
Okay, okay.
Wipe test.
Let's do a wipe test. What does that mean? What's the wipe test going to do? We're going to see. We're going to see who has a dirty wipe i'm i'm drying it i actually washed my hands before okay okay wipe test let's do it
i mean what's the white test we're gonna see we're gonna see who has a dirty white put that
wipe on their phone it is on the phone ain't my wife clean a little sketch i kind of have a little
makeup right here that's not poop lenore you did not wipe your phone i did wipe my phone like he's
not even holding it that's makeup that's dude you got dude you got dude all wipe your phone i did wipe my phone like he's not even holding his that's makeup that's duty you got duty all over your phone that's makeup that ain't no damn makeup why
would makeup be on your phone what do you say because my holding the phone to my face you nut
i don't believe that anyway it's nasty it's nasty so in other news and speaking of um bs there's no
bs on the latest.
And do we have enough time to do this?
Yeah, sure.
OK, student loan repayment.
Joe Biden is and the Biden administration is providing another nine billion dollars in student loan debt relief.
As you all know, the Supreme Court said that he overreached his executive authority in the summer and so this is the latest in trying to conform what already exists in the department
of education regulations to ensure that people who qualify and need this relief can actually get it
this of course comes just a few days after student loan repayments have restarted um after a three
year plus pause when they say providing what does that mean because a lot of times they'd be
announcing that they're about to forgive student loans but don't nobody actually get their loans
forgiven they end up getting blocked and all kind of stuff.
So are they actually?
Yeah.
So there are three categories that they're working on.
Some of it has to do with folks who already work in public service.
So teachers, firefighters and the like, they're going to get some more loan forgiveness and some relief.
An additional fifty three thousand borrows.
That's the public service loan forgiveness program.
Another 51,000 borrowers who have been in repayment for at least 20 years are getting some additional relief.
So there are three categories all through the Department of Education rules.
Folks have been experiencing bureaucracy red tape for far too long.
So this is a little bit of relief while we have a Supreme Court that continues to stand in the way of checks people getting checks yes they're getting no they're getting relief
they're going to get their student loans forgiven but you know who is getting checks and should
offer relief clarence thomas but we'll talk about that at some other point all right yeah that is
front page news now when we come back kirk franklin will be joining us we're gonna kick
him with kirk franklin man let me tell you something about kirk franklin will be joining us we're gonna kick it with kirk franklin man let
me tell you something about kirk franklin let me see your wife i didn't throw it away now
kirk franklin you have not seen that uh father's day documentary that's currently on youtube do
yourself a favor and watch it because you are watching somebody heal their inner child in real
time that's right we're gonna kick it with him when we come back and shout to n-o-r-e nori just hit me and said you got the total yes nori i got the
total you know when you walk in it opens up all automatically for you and it's amazing they need
to pay you for that no no no okay they could have sent me a free toilet but now that's all as
expensive as this but you know i love it it's my my favorite place in the crib your wife is
definitely dirtier than mine that's not true Don't pass me your makeup covered, your doo-doo covered wife.
That is not his wife.
You switched wives.
That's exactly what you just did.
This is mine.
I switched wives.
All right.
Well, it's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning, Kirk Franklin.
We'll be back.
The Breakfast Club.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club.
We got a special guest in the building.
Yes, indeed.
The brother, Kirk Franklin. Welcome, brother. Welcome back.
Good morning. How you feeling, my brother?
Man, a lot of feelings.
Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
A lot of feelings. And, you know, I thank y'all for letting me come.
I mean, this is my first week of having conversations, you know, about all of this.
And so, you know, just trying to learn how to be able to articulate it in ways that I've never had to have this level of communication about.
I'm a very open and transparent guy, but some of this recent stuff has kind of hit me for a loop because it's so fresh.
It's so new.
It's only like 12 weeks old.
So I'm trying to learn how to do it in in these ways so
yeah but i'm i'm willing to try for people that don't know he's talking about his documentary
father the the time that you met your father for the first time in 53 years yeah well and just the
nuances of it the fact that i hated a man for 53 years that I thought was my father and and and he died knowing that I hated him.
That was powerful in the dark. You said you went to go make peace with him.
I was wondering, like, how did you feel knowing you made peace with a person that, you know, you really had no business having a problem with?
Well, I still would have had the brokenness in it because he wasn't in my life.
And I hated him because he wasn't in my life and and i hated him because he wasn't in my
life and showed up when my career started to take off and and that broke me you know being adopted
and not having a mother and father in my life but still knowing well i met him when i was six
saw him again when i was 13 and then he started showing up when my career took off
and so for somebody that already had a lot of trauma being adopted and having a lot of abandonment issues and acceptance issues you know it it it it was a
very painful process to live that way knowing that you wouldn't want it and and just all the mistakes
that a young black man can make not having the type of mentorship because i didn't have uncles
that stepped in i didn't have those type of things.
And even in the church, you know, the church majority,
it's always made up of women, you know, unfortunately.
And so you try to navigate and you make a lot of mistakes.
And then religion and dogma can also become a little duplicitous
and can make the journey even more problematic
is because you're living in fear, you know,
because a lot of times in religion is God's going to get you and God's going to get you and God's going to get you more than this.
God loves you.
And even one of my mentors, now that I'm older, told me about 20 years ago, it's hard to know God's love as a father when you've never had one.
Damn.
Fire, right?
What made you want to meet him?
This guy?
Well, you know, just how it happened.
You know, I was in the middle of just working.
I wasn't even looking for him.
Now, you said this guy.
Is that how you refer to him, is this guy?
Well, and I know that language is necessary, right?
Absolutely.
And it's very important.
And language speaks really the tenets of the heart, right?
But, you know, for me, this term father is something that i'm still just grappling
with and it's not his fault i mean he's been a man who's lived his life he's a 69 year old man
that has lived his life not thinking about that he has a son that was 10 minutes away from him
his entire life 10 minutes away and so uh right now i call him mr rick so i call him mr rick right now as i'm
trying to navigate because you know he has a daughter and you know and she's an incredible
young lady she's trying to navigate because she's been the apple of his eye all of her life
and uh you know you know and it's like all of a sudden now they've got me and and and and and
he's been very loving but very welcoming and but at the
same time my biological mother who i haven't ever really had a strong relationship with is still
denying that he's my father after two dna tests why is that i mean i didn't understand that in
the documentary like the dna test was 99.99 99 positive yeah that was i'm not gonna lie you
you're a funny person.
You don't be meaning to be funny.
I know, I know.
When they gave you the number, you was like, 99.9% what?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's because I haven't been in that position before in my life.
You know, it's like I don't get a lot of calls that I got kids by different people.
So I don't know.
And then, you know, you have a lot of anxiety because you don't really understand.
Why won't she accept it?
I don't know.
And I would have loved for her to give me that.
But it's obvious that she can't.
And so I have the responsibility of still honoring black women and talking in a way that still gives a light that I never want to attack her publicly.
And I don't know her as my mother.
The woman that adopted me was the woman that I knew as my mother.
I would see my biological mother maybe once or twice a year in my life,
which makes the trauma even more painful because in marginalized communities,
when it comes to legal adoption, sometimes it doesn't always work the same.
A lot of times people outside of our race and hue, they are adopted in systems where they
don't really know their biological parents. And so they may know that they were given up,
but at least they find people that want them and love them. So at least it's a wound that heals.
But when you have people that come in and out of your life every now and then,
and sometimes in our communities, you can be related to somebody that lives right down the street and you don't even know it.
And I think that that's what has made the story even a little bit more painful and even more broad is that the amount of american experience has caused this a fractured understanding
of what family is because we were so displaced and separated and so many nuances to why we don't
know who we are now let me ask you you did say that uh what's the name mr rich i don't want to
call him mr mr rick mr rick so you said mr rick has a daughter and that's the apple of his eye
yeah how did that make you feel when you look at Mr. Rick and you see how much he loves his
daughter and raise his daughter and put the time and energy into his daughter? And then you might
look and reflect back on yourself and say, damn, why wasn't I the same way? Why wasn't I the apple
of his eye? How did you overcome that? Because I've never been the apple of anyone's eye. It
was just my normal even the woman
that adopted me because of her age you know is uh one thing that i do share with my brother
charlemagne is that i am a huge advocate of therapy and counseling i've been in counseling
since i was 18 years old even the therapist i have right now i'm his longest patient that he's ever
seen uh you know and we kind of make jokes about it because he says that every uh new experience in my life it triggers a new trauma and and and so i believe in jesus i believe
in prayer and i believe in therapy and so i've needed all of that just to try to get by so her
being the apple of his eye didn't affect me in any way because that's all i've ever known not being
that that's been my normal.
All right, we got more with Kirk Franklin when we come back.
It's the Breakfast Club.

Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy,
Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club.
We're still kicking it
with Kirk Franklin.
Charlamagne?
You said something
to Doc that hit me so hard, man.
You said you don't even know
who you truly are.
I'm paraphrasing.
You don't even know
who you truly are because you only know the broken version of yourself yes sir god yes sir and i don't want
to you know even postulate myself as as as as a victim i really tried to want to maneuver and
and what was very interesting because i was working on this album and this album was just
going to be an album i was working on bros and and and for the first time i
had a little budget where i could hire a videographer this is my guy over here to your
right and left and uh chris and and chris was just with me just capturing the process of working on
my album and in the middle of this album one a young lady that sings with me at her father's church there was a funeral
and and at that funeral uh it was a funeral for a woman that is my biological aunt i didn't go
because i knew my mother would be there i hadn't seen my mother in over 23 years because there was
something that she did to me and my biological well and and my half-sister uh that i thought
was very painful my half-sister just got out of prison and nobody was there to help her but me.
I was 31 years old, 32 years old,
and I didn't have the knowledge to know how to handle
somebody getting out of prison and what to do
because she still was dealing with drugs and different things.
And so something painful happened over 23 years ago
that made me go, I'm not going to deal with you again.
And so I didn't go to the funeral funeral but at the funeral there was a man there there was friends of the family of the church that the funeral was at name was
Rick he saw Deborah at the funeral and said oh I didn't know that Deborah and
this young lady that passed were related I used to mess around with Deborah and
that was the beginning and so my man was with me i'm in the studio working
on music and so i was able to hide behind the camera gave me courage when mr rick heard the
rumors uh it gave me the courage to after i got the test results to go see him go see her go see
other people um so i wouldn't have to do it by myself i wonder is kirk
franklin is there is there a version in your mind of yourself that you can see that's whole and
healed because you say what you you know your therapist said to you how every new trauma every
every new experience causes trauma and it feels like that even now like you know you know who
your biological father is but does that
make you feel more whole or does it make you just feel even more broken beautiful question beautiful
question and it's funny because you guys know how it is man you know it because you've written books
you are creative you are creative you know how art imitates life and so when you're in the middle
of hell the middle of something it's going to come out and whatever it is that you would you know
you know you're writing you're doing music and so even in the new record man it's just i am
trying to figure that out i'm trying to figure it out lyrically is because i almost find myself
afraid of knowing what even well looks like is because brokenness becomes almost like a blanket and that's warped that's not healthy
and so that's why i know i've got to continue to keep doing the work but it's because i know that
it affects everything and everybody around me you know it affects uh your understanding of love and
so your your your wife feels it your children feel it you know all the people right and at the
same time bros you see how god uses it in this mysterious way because there are so many broken people.
You're able to communicate to them from a space that you can say to them, me too.
And I think that sometimes even in the kind of music that I do, it can make you feel like, okay, well, gospel music can be so happy and so up.
It's like, you know, it ain't really speaking to my ish.
Right. happy and so up it's like you know it ain't really speaking to my ish right but the music that i've
been able to do because i heal as i reveal i really try to communicate my fragility in the
music so that people can be able to see okay he don't have it all together because i don't and
there's a lot about life a lot about god a lot about struggles that i don't understand and i'm
still trying to figure it out and so I'm
I'm trying to do my best to to just walk it out and aren't you just trauma bonding with your
listeners then wow that's a strong question I pray that I give them balance as I pray that
in the lyrical content in the music that as I go through the journey um you know even like something
I can imagine me, imagine
me loving what I see.
And then at the end of the song, even though I talk about the beginning of that, I talk
about how it's gone.
And I think that that's important.
I think that David, the psalmist David, right?
And I'm quite sure that you've read psalms before.
It sounds a little bipolar, right?
You know what I'm saying?
One day he's afraid and questioning. One day he's down and one day he's rejoicing and i think that that
duality is necessary is because the complexity of life requires an honest approach of how rain
and sunshine they coexist in our journey but i think it also allows people to know that they're
not alone with their journey that's what i've always tried to do, you know.
But what Charlemagne just said is something that I definitely want to ponder on this because I think it's such a strong statement.
And I think that it's very important that as you try to give medicine and try to wrap it in candy, that you are at least trying to give the solution.
And so I appreciate you saying that to me so that I can, you know,
fight to still try to be accountable
because I'm still learning.
I think that's the biggest thing.
Like, you know,
we're all just still learning, right?
Like, we're not experts.
We're just sharing our experiences.
Yeah.
And I think that's what you're doing.
You're just sharing your experience.
Yeah.
One thing I love in the doc too, man,
I love seeing folks doing inner child work.
And that's what you're doing.
You're doing your inner child work.
You're trying to heal your inner child
How important is that to you?
Man, I got to keep it together, bro
We good, brother
We here for you
Once again, it's my first week
You know, doing it
It's amazing because
I haven't been around my mother in decades
And the fact that she won't give me
What I'm asking It's's like just let me know
that you didn't know and you can even say you don't know but to be so adamant about
he isn't your father it's powerful because her not giving me that takes away my ability to be
able to even try to embrace it because she still has power over the little boy and i hadn't seen her in
decades like in that amazing in that amazing that you can see the cause of the beginning of your
reckless life and hadn't seen them in almost three decades and they still have power over the soul
of the little baby i could first of all i could never imagine myself
in that predicament or position but i'm just trying to put myself in your shoes right and
here's a lady that you call your biological mom and you haven't seen her in three decades well
23 years 23 years almost three decades 23 years and i i guess the question i would want to know
is is why right and the reason i say why is in this situation is it's
like you know you have kids i have kids charlotte has kids and it's like i think i would feel like
damn you don't want me and even though that you know i was adopted and it's like you would feel
like well i'm successful now i'm kirk franklin and you still don't want nothing to do with me
you still don't want to make up for for lost time and to try that that that never affected you
anyway you got the quiet you anyway because it's
just how i feel i'm about to start crying because i feel them because i feel them you are you're
amazing i don't feel weird to you well first of all thank you for the uh uh comedy break and i
thank you for the comedy break
i'm about to start tearing because i feel away okay you are you talking to her? Because I feel him. I'm about to start tearing because I feel the way. Okay. Mom, you are something else.
Don't even.
And I love how y'all
got that brotherhood fire like that.
You know,
and it's funny because even.
I really don't like him.
But even that is beautiful to me
because I was raised with none of that.
Being raised by yourself,
that's traumatic.
I was the kid,
I'm embarrassed to say it,
but I was the kid
on the last day of school,
I would cry
because I was going back to a house with an older lady who, it was just empty.
Damn.
And I didn't want to leave these kids because I had no family to go home to.
Oh, man.
All right, we got more with Kirk Franklin when we come back.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club.
We're still kicking it with Kirk Franklin.
Charlamagne?
See, this is why
therapy and stuff
is so important
because before the conversation
started,
before we even turned on the mic,
you were telling Envy
to keep having kids
because you don't want
to have an empty nest
and you were like,
an empty nest is a mother******.
You didn't curse, but...
He didn't curse.
He didn't curse.
Not this time.
Not this time.
But you said,
so now that's the same thing, right?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And so you fill your life with noise and then when you talk about well i'm kirk franklin now you
still don't want me i'm gonna tell you whatever that kirk franklin thing is a lot of times makes
it worse it's because success can be traumatizing and i learned that in therapy it's because now
you've got to deal with how do i maneuver how do i like i was
so traumatized by successes that when the first album goes platinum you think a million people
like you and then if the next album goes gold you're behind things that half a million people
don't like you no more and so i'm honest enough to say it i'm quite sure i'm not the only one that
goes through that and so when you don't when those beginning stages of life when you don't have people to inform you of who you are
it sets the trajectory of how you process everything in life everything in life is through
that same filter i want to be liked i want to be accepted am i okay am i good enough and you can be
53 years old still asking how'd i do how'd i do how'd i do i'm doing interviews all
week and i'm you know and i'll still pull the publicist to the side okay how was that was that
good you know was that you know and it's because you're just still trying to figure out and so all
of this just opens up the new wounds and so that's why i needed this album i needed this music i
needed to man can you imagine if all this was going on
and i was just at the crib having none to do bro i needed to be working on music does that make
sense absolutely bro i couldn't be still i had to be doing something because i was going to go crazy
but isn't that a response to trauma though it can be it can be and i don't know if all of it is
terrible is because there are other results that you could take that could even be more detrimental.
You know, drugs, drinking, suicide, you know, I think that the most important thing that I do want anyone listening to understand is because, again, it's not just Kirk's story.
This is a lot of people's story and a lot of people live in these spaces which which is mind-blowing all of the responses i've gotten
from this is that i just want people to know that you can't wait to get fixed that's right before
you get up and win so what you got to do is you got to win wounded oh you got to win wounded
that's all of us right you got to win yeah you can't wait for them sorry you can't wait till
that the person wants to fix it you can't wait for them. Sorry. You can't wait to let the person wants to fix it.
You can't wait for the apology.
And what they did was wrong.
What God allows at times feel so wrong,
but we got to be able to trust his heart when we don't understand his hand.
Queens and Kings,
no matter what has been brought in your life by the winds and waves of life,
I need for you to get up.
I need for you to limp across the finish line, limp, bleeding, cussing, crying, but I need for you to get up. I need for you to limp across the finish line limp bleeding cussing crying
But I need for you to win wounded
Now has that strengthened the relationship with your kids? Has it changed anything with your kids?
You know, it's been very interesting man
Because you know my kids have loved me through all of my deficiencies my youngest who is brilliant he's a thinker and
he said to me that he said that this has given him another level of grace for me he said because
you have done the best you knew how to do he said he said because i don't know not having a life
without yo he says man you know and again i don't want him to see his daddy as a victim you know
but the kindness that they've shown me has really been humbling.
You know, the patience, because can you imagine being married to this?
You know, somebody that doesn't fully understand what love is.
I want, because once again, just because you're introduced to love, don't mean you're not receiving.
If it hasn't been engrafted in you.
And so my family, they've been very kind because I know that I've been a lot.
Your son is at the end of the doc, right? firstborn that's my first but I was just talking about my youngest
yeah well when you let Mr. Rick know yeah the father yeah why was that important to do well
first of all it was a great opportunity to have a reconnection with him i thought that it would be a moment of healing that could open up
an opportunity for us to heal and so i was very grateful that it was something that he was moved
by and to have this reconnection point with him he had a visceral reaction though just like mr rick
had a visceral reaction like immediately like his tears my son is a beautiful soul man he that's my firstborn that's my firstborn it's my
first namesake you know carry on has been the homie since he said i mean since he was six he
had the passport you know i mean i mean my son and my kids have traveled the world with me and
to be able to see him again and to hold him close to me and to just touch his face like i hadn't
been that close to him in over a
decade and to just embrace him you know man because I've missed my son I've missed my son and I love
my son because my son grew me up the church killed me when I got his mom pregnant back in 88
in the 80s and I was a church musician man the ridicule and but that was my home that was the
home and I took him to all the choir rehearsals and you know i'm saying when i was working on music and you know and so to be able to
hold my firstborn again and to embrace him it was a very loving moment for me how important is it to
hear i apologize from your parents oh oh man because i would love to hear now you know and so uh to be able to hear
that it's very healing i would believe it's because it would heal me you know and so it was
very important that he heard that for me it was very important for him to be able to know man i'm
sorry i'm sorry for stuff i may not even know i'm sorry but i just need for you to know it i
it's not if you to be able to hear I'm sorry because I know
The healing that exists in those words and I just want him to know for the things I knew
For the things I didn't know for the things I'm trying to figure out for the things for whatever
For whatever you need to put this in the bucket that starts you on your journey as another black man
I need for you to hear your daddy say,
I'm sorry.
And you can apply wherever you need it.
I don't care.
I don't care.
This ain't about winning.
All I want to win is you.
That's right.
All I want to win is you.
There was another part of the doc, man,
where you couldn't call your aunt, aunt.
You called her by her first name
and she wouldn't reply to you
until you said aunt.
Why was that so hard?
Well, these are people that I wasn't raised around my entire life.
You know, I didn't have that family dynamic.
So I don't have the habit of calling people uncle.
You know, that was not part of my construct.
And so it's not natural for me to do it.
So I didn't mean the offense it's just these are not people that have been in my ecosystem my entire life and so that's why you
know and i do want to make it inextricably clear that i'm not here to bash my mother i'm not here
to bash my mom because these are black women and it is very important for me to make sure that I still, as a black man, carry the role of covering the most powerful, the most precious treasure that we have to this earth.
And that's the black woman.
So I'm not here to do that.
And I refuse to do it.
Being that you've gone through all of this, when are you going to let Plies get his DNA?
Yo, shut up, man.
Let's get into a scene right now.
You know, that is the real reason why I'm here um you know um plies i love you come home oh my goodness let's get into a single off
the album the album father's day is out what do you want to hear off the album can we get into
a new album comes out man i'm so excited excited about the new tour i'm on tour right now man
i'm on tour right now with ty tribett the Clark sisters King and they killing it
They killing it every night bro the Clark sisters Tamela man take me to the King David man
Singers the whole band and the new album called Father's Day and I needed this album
And I hope that it can help heal people like it helped heal me. I'm happy or that it's trying to heal me
I'm still not there, but I'm excited.
What do you want to heal them?
You know what?
Needs?
You want to do needs?
Let's do needs.
Let's do needs.
Ladies and gentlemen, we appreciate you for joining us.
We love you.
We appreciate you.

We didn't care about that.
But all right.
So first listen, what's your thoughts so far on the Drake album?
Because since you're a huge Drake fan.
Yeah, no, I was saying to everyone earlier after I listened to it front to back, I definitely
feel like Drake delivered.
He checked all the boxes for everybody who's always complaining.
You've only listened to it once.
Let this man talk.
I got to run it back for sure.
You youngins with your immediate reviews.
I got to run it back during downtime.
But front to back, you know, we got, he delivered.
He got R&B.
He got some stuff for the club.
He got a song with Bad Bunny.
Another song with SZA and Sexy Red.
That's like
a club banger for sure chief keef on there um yeah it's definitely a vibe 23 songs and i think
he'll definitely tell worst Drake review of all time no way because it's only been an hour he
just looked to it why you put this young man i have a Drake question i understand from reading
not because i knew this i love j cole but on the j cole feature they say he addresses a nba young boy diss you brought up the same oh i didn't know

Eli oh can I say something too for everybody who says um I'm obsessed with Drake you are
you are all over Drizzy's glizzy bro I did not know this you have every Drake paraphernalia on
I got a support it's uh your Instagram name is OVO Eli by the way I'm doing I'm explaining this
one line you ready okay it's not the man it's the music OVO Eli. By the way, I'm doing it. I'm explaining this one line. You ready?
It's not the man. It's the music.
OVO's not just a month. It's a movement.
Bye. Drake, if you're listening,
please can you send this young man up some stuff?
Bye. Not the bras, though, out that
room. Not the bras. You might take a bra, Drake.
No, not the bras. Sign something
for him, please. His name is
OVO Eli. Not
the fan wave goodbye. Not the fan way.
By the way, I'm going to tell you why I respect it, though.
I think there's nothing wrong with being a fan of an artist.
There's nothing wrong with celebrating an artist.
There's nothing wrong with it.
This is a throwback.
Everybody act like they too cool nowadays to celebrate an artist.
Correct.
This man's name is OVO Eli.
Correct.
He has no problem being on Drizzy's Glizzy.
Wow. Wow. I'm telling you, it's time. Poor Eli. correct this man name is OVO Eli correct he has no problem being on drizzies glizzy This is too far. It's always too far. Oh, my goodness. He said, Obi-Wan the ass. No, he said for F.
Oh, for F.
All right.
You play too much.
I couldn't hear.
You're a troll.
No, you're not old.
Not that old.
Anybody in Drake's camp,
can you please send him a care package?
G-Spin.
Who else is over there?
40.
I'm getting him a shirt, man.
Future the DJ.
Anybody over there?
I said Oliver Chubb.
Chubb.
Oh, my God.
Selfie. He don't even know none of these people. We need to start shouting them out. That's said Oliver Chubbs. Chubbs. Oh, my God. Nico. Selfie.
He don't even know none of these people.
We need to start shouting them out.
That's okay.
Chubbs.
I know you guys' spirit.
I know you guys' spirit.
I feel the energy from-
Yo.
Get off Drizzy's glizzy, yo.
Now, he wasn't the one that ran up on the stage, right?
Remember, there was a fan that ran up on the stage.
That might have been Eli.
Oh, Eli, not you running up on the stage mr morgan one of
y'all send him a clear package i do like that i do like to see people really happy to see music
come out i'm not gonna lie i do like that people really people really love them and you know you
know and you make fun of it all the time and i know you're joking like oh we owe eli and people
that love drake But this is how.
People who love Drizzy's glizzy.
But this is how I was when Hov came out.
I'm a huge Hov fan.
So I remember when Hov albums come out, I would have these debates with my friends.
And who's on the album?
I would read the credits.
And I would be excited.
And like last night, my daughter's home.
And her boyfriend's there.
And they were excited about Drake.
They were talking about, yo, did you you see the Drake freestyle and my daughter was
like yeah I seen it she was like yeah he had the Sun in the video and the Sun was
explaining the artwork and it didn't make sense but Drake was like yes son it
makes sense and they were into it like they were captivated and I'm like that's
how no matter what you I listen oh that's how I used to ride out the whole
no matter what you feel about a drink which I mean no not even just Drake did
the three-headed monster, right?
The Drake, the Cole, and Kendrick.
Yeah.
They make people care about the music.
As they should.
Like, you know, everybody else is talking about blogs and tweets and gossip and rumors.
They make you stay focused on the music.
Can I just say, you said you used to read the credits.
You think they still go and read the credits?
Like, you know, it's like electronic.
We can't, like, phone call.
No, they still do.
Like, you know, my daughter last night knew who the A&R was.
Oh, that's great. Which is Kevin Durant. Could you stop? That's because it was Kevin Durant. my daughter last night knew who the A&R was. Oh, that's great.
Which is Kevin Durant.
Could you stop?
That's because it was Kevin Durant.
No, but they knew who the A&R was.
Ask her who the A&R was for the last five albums.
I bet she couldn't tell you.
It's Kevin Durant.
But I'm sure they read the credits on the last five albums.
I don't even remember who the A&Rs were for all Jay-Z's albums when I first do it.
I like to read the credits.
Yeah, but I don't remember now.
Okay, name them.
Let's hear it.
Hip-hop.
It was always hip-hop.
It was always hip-hop for all of them.
Well, then that's kind of a cheat.
G. Robeson was for a couple of them. Lenny S. was for a couple of them. But that's because I. Hip hop. It was always hip hop. It was always hip hop for all of them. Well, then that's kind of a cheat. G Robeson was for a couple of them.
Lenny S was for a couple of them.
But that's because I know the characters.
And just like OVO, Eli's shouting out 40 and Chubbs.
He don't know them, but he just hears them all the time.
Future the DJ, he don't even know them.
He just, you know.
He probably had a Chubb the way he was in here.
Oh, my God.
That's the way Eli was talking.
All right. Jesus Christ. All right. We ain God. That's the way Eli was talking.
Jesus Christ.
All right.
We ain't got no time for nothing else.
You're just a mess.
What you doing in your donkey, man?
For after the hour, man,
let's talk about why stalking is wrong.
There's an old man named Michael Arnold.
He's 65 years old.
He needs to come in front of the congregation.
We'd like to have a word with him,
but I promise you, you ain't never heard nobody stalk like he stalks.
Oh no.
All right.
Well, let's get into this joint.
You want to take a bet?
Take a bet on what?
I said you want to take a bet.
Not take it back.
I said bet.
Take a bet on what?

from Envy from KP and Envy.
Shorty Swing My Way.
I do see that all the time.
That is true.
I don't know.
Is that true?
That's not true.
That's that vibe right there.
Shorty Swing My Way.
Yes.
Donkey, today's up next.
The Breakfast Club.
Your mornings will never be the same.
As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions,
but you just don't know what is going to come for you.
Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself and leaning into her
dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves,
for self-preservation and protection. it was literally that step by step.
And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going.
This increment of small, determined moments.
Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love.
I forgive myself.
It's okay.
Like grace.
Have grace with yourself.
You're trying your best.
And you're going to best and you're gonna figure

Is your country falling apart?
Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary?
Consider this.
Start your own country.
I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this.
It's surprisingly easy.
There are 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete.
Everybody's doing it.
I am King Ernest Emmanuel.
I am the Queen of Laudonia.
I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg.
I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia.
Be part of a great colonial tradition.
Why can't I trade my own country? My forefathers did that themselves.
What could go wrong?
No country willingly gives up their territory.
I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warheads.
Oh my God.
What is that?
Bullets.
Bullets.
We need help!

behavior. On my podcast, A Slight Change of Plans, I marry science and storytelling to better understand how to navigate the big changes in our lives.
It was like a slow nightmare, you know, because every day you think, oh, surely tomorrow I'll be better.
And I would dream of being better.
At night, I would dream that my face was,-unquote normal or back to the way it was.
And I'd wake up and there'd be no change.
I also speak with scientists about how we can be more resilient in the face of change.

It's time for donkey of the day.
I ain't trying to be donkey of the day no more.
They should be embarrassed by what they already did.
I'm not making these people do these things.
It's called donkey of the day and it really caught me off guard.
Damn, Charlamagne. Who got the donkey of the day and it really caught me off guard damn solomon who got the donkey of the day today well just hilarious donkey of the day for friday october 6th goes to
a 65 year old woman named um 65 year old man pardon me uh named michael arnold now michael is a pilot
but i think his pilot license should be revoked if he indeed is guilty of the things he's being
accused of first of all he's being accused of being a world-class stalker.
There's a lot of women out there that can relate to having stalkers.
Hell, some men too.
But this guy, Michael, is on a higher level than most stalkers.
Literally.
See, he is already under a temporary order of protection.
And he was issued a cease and desist from flying any and all aircraft
after being accused of four years worth of bizarre
sexual harassment from this guy. I can't even make this kind of stuff up. Let's go to Channel
3 News Vermont for the report, please. 65-year-old Michael Arnold of Schuylerville, New York,
is accused of aggravated stalking after police say he flew his plane over the woman's house
and even threw tomatoes toward the ground. Here's video of what police say are the many instances where
Arnold flew low over the village of Schuylerville. An FBI agent told Bennington police that Arnold
may be taking off from the Bennington airport and flying against a court order. Court paperwork
states Arnold has been stalking the woman for roughly four years. In an interview with police,
Arnold told them he was not the one flying the plane. He was only on board as a passenger.
Arnold spoke with our media partner after a court appearance yesterday in Bennington following his initial appearance on the charges.
If somebody else was flying the plane, couldn't you just ask them to testify on your behalf?
I might be able to. I don't know. I might be able to.
All the latest charges also include resisting arrest and violating an abuse protection order.
Arnold was released on conditions today, including no flying or going within 300 feet of his plane.
His next court appearance has not been scheduled.
I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever heard of anything like this.
OK, this single man, Michael, is using a single engine Cessna to sexually harass a woman.
This man then turned a Cessna into a sexual cesspool.
OK, I've heard of crop dusters, but a cock duster is a new one.
OK, do you know that back in the 1960s, they used to call it a Cessna 150s, one filthy or a cesspit?
I'm not making this up. Do your Googles.
These were actual nicknames for these small planes.
But I don't think that's fair to the plane.
The plane doesn't have a life.
It doesn't have a soul a personality an energy the reason
planes should get nicknames is because of the pilot for example the Cessna 180
that Michael was onboarding it has a nickname and the nickname is the sky
wagon because they call it the station wagon of the sky this is very true
google it and that's scary because the station wagon is the vehicle of serial
killers Charles Manson had a station wagon. But let's stay the course. We're talking about stockers here.
OK, this man is 65 and he's literally acting like a cartoon character.
OK, you sent the naked picture of you laying in bed and didn't get a reply.
You decide to take it to the sky. OK, look, it's a perv in a plane.
I've heard of letting your freak flag fly, but Michael has decided to fly with a freak flag.
This man flew so close to the house that windows and doors would rattle.
This woman claims that one time the pilot pelted her home with tomatoes.
Now, the symbolism of throwing tomatoes is because, for whatever reason, folks used to see tomatoes as a symbol of poor quality.
So throwing tomatoes at someone would be equivalent to telling them they were not good enough.
If you are going out of your way for four years, allegedly to stalk a woman by flying your plane near her house then you sir are letting
her know she's good enough knock it off with the tomatoes okay not to mention if you're 65
and if you can afford to fly your plane by this woman's house damn near every day won't you just
move like a real sugar puff daddy and use that money you would spend on gas and just spend it on her.
OK, it ain't tricking if she's worth it.
All right. You busy being the dirty old man flying over the cuckoos.
And that's when you could be the dirty old man flying this young woman out.
All right. Another mistake, Michael. And you know this from flying.
You have to know when you're flying too high. You're 65.
You can't go chasing 40 somethings at 65.
You've got to stick to the Golden Girls and the Jamie Lee Curtis's that you used to.
Because being that you're 65, okay, he's not even a good-looking 65.
Oh.
I know.
Michael.
If a stroke was a person, this is what it would look like.
Oh, my God.
All right?
He looks like if a pile of mashed potatoes shopped at Abercrombie & Fitch.
He looks like the oldest love child of Peter Griffin and Brian the Dog.
If Peter was into bestiality
and Brian the Dog would have babies,
this is what their eldest 65-year-old child
would look like.
Look at him.
Look at him!
Okay?
At some point in life,
he definitely called a black pilot
a flying monkey.
Okay?
All I'm trying to say is,
whether you do it via plane, train, or automobile,
stalking is wrong.
Please give Michael Arnold the biggest hee-haw.
Actually, let Kathy Griffin give Michael Arnold the biggest hee-haw.
Please give this giant jar of mayo the biggest hee-haw.
This is definitely a human jar of helmets.
Want to keep going?
Nah, I don't think we need to keep going.
There's nothing racist about what he did. Okay.
Yes. Alright. Well, thank you for that donkey
of the day. Yes, indeed. Alright. Now
when we come back, Stephen A. Smith
will be joining us. We're going to kick it with Stephen A.
A lot to discuss. A lot going on with sports.
We're going to talk to our friend Stephen A. Smith.
He's got some stuff going on in his personal too.
Just personal things we can talk
about. Okay. Alright. We'll do that when we come back.
So don't move. Peace. B-'t move and peace B-E-T

ladies and gentlemen
what's up
how you feeling
I'm good man
how y'all doing man
blessed black and highly favored.
The Cowboys are 3-1, man.
You know, I like it.
It's going to be better.
Enjoy it.
He already purchased his tickets for Super Bowl.
You know that?
That's the only thing.
I got love for Charlemagne, but my God.
I mean, I just don't understand it, man.
Dallas Cowboys, they're like a virus, man.
I mean, you just can't get rid of them.
I mean, everywhere you go, you see Dallas Cowboys fans.
I do not understand it, but, you know, they got a of them. Everywhere you go, you see Dallas Cowboys fans. I do not understand
it, but, you know, they got a damn good
team this year for their defense as a lead.
They're off it, but it's still going to come down to Dak.
You know that, right? You know that.
I mean, it's going to be that moment, and I just want to
look out for you, man, because y'all important.
You know what I'm saying? And I don't want you to just
get into a state of depression.
Your enthusiasm
just elevates,
and then that moment arrives, and Dak's got to come through,
and it ain't going to happen.
I will say, man, I agree with everything you say about Dak Prescott.
I think your assessment of Dak Prescott on first take is absolutely spot on. I've never said he's a scrub.
I never said he can't play.
What I said is that it's about moments,
and every time there's a big moment, he has not shown up.
It's just that simple.
And so he's got to do it.
You know, think about this, man.
I mean, you got a cat like Brock Purdy, Mr. Irrelevant,
last pick in the draft and all this other stuff.
He's considered a better quarterback than Dak Prescott.
Jalen Hurts, he was just in the Super Bowl.
He's considered a better quarterback than Dak Prescott.
Jared Goff, he's been balling for the Detroit Lions.
He's considered a better quarterback than Dak Prescott.
And so, when you... I was at the
Errol Spence-Terrence Crawford fight.
You know, by the way, an annihilation I did
not expect. I picked Crawford to win that
fight, but I didn't know it was going to be like that.
But I got to tell you, I'm at the fight, and a whole
bunch of Dallas Cowboys, they're there.
And supremely
confident in their defense.
And then when you asked him about quarterbacking,
we believe in him, Steve.
And I'm like, y'all know the difference.
Y'all know the difference.
You know that little extra hesitation, the stuttering.
They're like, we know what we going to do.
We hope he's going to do it.
Well, I can't wait until we beat the 49ers this weekend.
No, that's not going to happen.
That's not going to happen.
I'm predicting you're going to lose. I'm predicting Dak's going to throw two interceptions. Damn. I got to bet with Shannon he's going to throw it. I can't wait until we beat the 49ers this weekend. No, that's not going to happen. I'm predicting you're going to lose. I'm predicting
Dak's going to throw two interceptions. Damn. I got to bet
with Shannon he's going to throw two interceptions. Damn.
So who's your Super Bowl pick and why is it the Cowboys?
I think, well, first, it ain't going to be the Cowboys.
It ain't going to be the Cowboys.
You keep trying.
You keep trying. I had the Eagles
at the beginning of the season. I still
believe in them, but I just think that San
Francisco, the more I look at San
Francisco, remember,
they was in the NFC Championship game.
They didn't have a quarterback.
It's never happened in NFL history.
All four quarterbacks got hurt.
And so because they didn't have a quarterback,
they literally got to a point after Brock Purdy went down
and their backup went down,
Christian McCaffrey had to line up behind center.
They didn't have a quarterback.
So it was a foregone conclusion that the Eagles were going to win that game
and they were going to the Super Bowl once that happened.
Well, this year they motivated.
You got Iuke and you got Debo and you got Kittles.
And this boy Christian McCaffrey could be the league MVP right now.
The brother is balling.
And Purdy is leading everybody in QBR.
And the defense is top three.
And so when you look at it right now, I would have to say in all
honesty, San Francisco is the favorite.
And then when you look at the AFC,
it's up for grabs. Two weeks ago
I was like, yo man, I ain't seen an offense
like this in Miami since
the days of Dan Fouts
with Charlie Joyner and Kellen Winslow
Sr. and Chuck Muncy and these brothers.
I'm like, this is something
special. And then they go to Buffalo and get bum-rushed.
Beat the hell down.
And I'm like, well, damn.
There goes that.
And then you got Kansas City.
Patrick Mahomes still that dude.
Kelsey's still that dude.
But their receivers can't get open.
But they got Taylor Swift now.
I know that.
That helps.
That damn sure helps.
But not in the football field.
Let me ask you a question.
In terms of popularity, but not in the football field.
Now, is that affecting the game now?
Because we watched the game
this past weekend, and they must have shown Taylor Swift 19
times. I know, but listen,
it's overkill. There's no doubt
you even hear Kelsey speaking out against
it, but let's be real about something. First of all,
it's his fault. We didn't know his interest
in Kelsey and Taylor Swift
until he told us. Well, nobody mind him.
We thought he was with the ex for crying out loud.
We didn't know.
Okay, but Taylor Swift, I mean, that's $6 billion in the latest concert.
You know, concert tour.
Dammit, I went to the concert.
You went to Taylor Swift's concert?
Man, my daughters made me take them, man.
You know what I'm saying?
You said it was the greatest show you ever saw in your life.
No, I said it was the greatest show I had ever been to.
Now, I'm a Beyonce fan all day, every day.
I don't think any of them compare to her. But I've never been to. Now, I'm a Beyonce fan all day, every day. I don't think any of them compare to her.
But I've never been to her concert.
I went to Taylor Swift's concert.
Yo, man, at SoFi Stadium in L.A., she brought the house down.
And, I mean, these little girls, man, I haven't seen anything like this since Michael Jackson.
I mean, it was in between songs.
What I mean by that is in between songs they gave her a nine
minute standing ovation non-stop they were screaming they wouldn't let her sing the next
song these little teenage girls and I mean every one of them knew every line of every song they
were singing it with her they were crying and screaming I saw people in the audience fainting
I saw it all I audience fainting.
I saw it all.
I couldn't believe it.
I don't want to talk to no Stephen A. Smith about no damn Taylor Swift.
I'll just ask about that.
I'm just kidding.
I got to ask about Damian Lillard.
What was your thought with him going to the Bucs?
I love it.
That's my brother.
I got a lot of love for him.
He's a superstar in this league.
I think if it were not for Steph Curry,
we'd be talking about him as the best in the game
at that position.
Having said all of that,
I think that it elevated Milwaukee,
no doubt about it,
because Giannis ain't had no weapon like that.
I think what you got to look at with Damian Lillard
is him being on that squad.
Giannis was their option.
Now you done brought in a closer.
You done brought in a brother
that has sent people home
and waved goodbye to them while doing it.
The Paul Georges, the James Hardens,
the Dwight Howards,
the Russell Westbrooks
of the world.
Ask them.
Damian Lillard
has sent them home
and waved goodbye
to them while doing it.
This is what he does.
Who do you think
will play more games
next year,
Ben Simmons or Kawhi Leonard?
Kawhi Leonard.
Okay.
I've lost complete faith
in Ben Simmons.
Damn.
The only thing I'm mad about
is I didn't get a chance
to tell him to his face.
And the reason why
is that we were at this spot last
year, man. And, you know,
I had a lot of respect for him.
You know, I'm not going to disrespect him as a man or
human being, but it's like, my God, bro.
Somehow, someway, no matter what
troubles you're going through, the check
is in the account. And you
cashing it. Somehow you're on the bench looking like a male model and you cashing it somehow you on the bench
looking like a male model you know say while the rest of your team out there playing you know you
just looking at it it's like it don't make no damn sense to me and so i look at it from that
perspective and then now you talk about you ready you ready you ready he's one of those guys that i
would tell you this his talent is big time if i could get away with it as a team, I wouldn't give him a damn dime until he plays.
You got to show up to work, man.
And to me, he hasn't done that.
And that's my disappointment with him.
What was your thoughts on Colin Kaepernick
writing the Jets and saying that he wanted to be,
work on the practice team to get the squad
where they needed to be?
It meant nothing to me.
I knew it was going to be much ado about nothing about nothing in 2019 i had sources inside the league office they're gonna give
him a workout at least 24 teams gonna show up it ended up being 26 the quote i received and i said
it on the air at the time this brother would have to throw it into the stands to not have a job in
two weeks all he got to do is show up the league had to
give him the try after the nfl stepped in and they said for the first time in history we gonna
conduct this workout well and they're gonna be hard for you if you go out there and do it
go out there and do it and bring the tsunami down upon the nfl and make sure now that you
gave him this tryout that ultimately you gave him a job you passed and you
did some work out of the high school football field an hour and 20 minutes away nah i said it
from that day i said it's over they just found the perfect excuse they ain't never gonna look at him
again just this past year you know 14 quarter black quarterbackbacks started in the NFL opening week. And seven of the top 11 paid players in the NFL at the quarterback position are black.
I only bring up that number because that's what the owners are going to say.
They're going to be like, yes, man.
We good.
We got it.
We getting our money.
We got black folks in here excelling and getting paid.
He had an opportunity to do that.
He passed.
And it's that simple.
I said it that day it's over
all right we got more with stephen a smith when we come back it's the breakfast club good morning
good morning everybody it's dj nv charlamagne the guy we are the breakfast club we're still
kicking it with stephen a smith charlamagne you know people uh people don't often look at what we
do in the terms of athletes but i do so when i say when I see you get a player of Shannon Sharpe's caliber on your team,
how do you adjust your game?
Well, listen, first of all, it's about respect and humility.
And here's what I mean by that.
I ain't no three-time Super Bowl champion.
I ain't no future, I ain't no Hall of Famer.
I'm not the greatest tight end in NFL history.
One of arguably the greatest titan in nfl
history he had those credentials coming to the table and so for me i don't got nothing to do
with this though i understand that but but but he has done a good job and he has been in the
business for years absolutely and so and so looking at the job that he did knowing the roster
cast that i had marcus spears ryan cl Clark and all these other folks I certainly wasn't interested in getting rid of them but I knew that he was a talent that would add he would be an
additive to me he wouldn't be a liability but more importantly than that man I was where he was
2009 we talked about this when it was me my book or various other interviews both of y'all have
done with me man I know what it's like to be out in that streets and be unemployed and and and and for them to be writing your epitaph and all of that other stuff and i was like
there wasn't a brother in steven a's position to help me but i'm in that position and so i called
him up and i said yo what you want to do and he's like yo man you have me i said he said i said yeah
i want you hell yeah absolutely and so to me, that was their loss.
It's my gain.
And I'm going to always, guys know what my approach is.
I know what I'm talking about as a reporter and pundit that covered the sport.
I didn't do what you do.
How much flack did you get?
Because, you know, when you're arguing or going back and forth with a player, a football player,
I'm sure they're thinking, you never played the sport.
No.
You didn't have the oxygen in Denver when that was.
Yeah, you don't go there.
But they don't do that anymore.
And that's where my reputation has helped me immensely.
Because anybody that walked through the doors and you tell me this is what you want to do, all you got to do is ask for my help and I'm going to give it to you.
You know what I'm saying?
I mean, you want to do this?
Here's how you do it it and I'll tell them that
and a lot of times I'll let them know listen I'm gonna come at you we're not
orchestrating anything I'm not letting you know what all my opinions are but
from a generic perspective I'm letting you know if I see something I'm gonna
attack you I'm gonna get right at you because but the the reason I'm doing it
is for you to pull out your level of expertise.
So if you watch cats debate with me, all of a sudden they'll up the ante as a segment progresses because I zero in on them and they get up because they like he's coming for me now.
He's got, because that's my way of saying to them, you're holding out.
You didn't give me what you got and I'm going to get this now.
Either that or I'm right.
Which one you willing to admit Stephen A
you right or Stephen A you wrong and if you say Stephen A I'm wrong you got to tell me why
and so when you have to tell me why that's what makes a debate show gotcha and that's what it's
about now some weeks ago uh something you said what you said several times you wrote about it
in your book you talked about you know your experience with Max Kellerman working on the show
and I saw a reaction from uh Marcellus Wiley and he said you got rid of max kellerman because max wasn't dumb and white okay
well let me say this i'm not talking about i'm going to address that last part the first part
i'm not addressing it anymore and here's the reason why some people want to do anything for
clicks y'all don't have to do that i don't have to do that established
but others have to do that and so when you see that's the tsunami of comments and all of this
other stuff even my bosses called me it was like yo man it's in your book enough's enough and i'm
like they right i had nothing to say about it anymore the ratings speak for itself the decisions
that were made speak for itself it is what it is
business is business period in terms of what marcellus wiley said now that i will direct i
will address directly and i only have one thing to say he and i work together um got a lot of
respect for him i know the man he was talking about as his best friend i get all of that no
problem here's my only issue.
For a black man to sit up there and say another black man is scared of somebody's intellect.
Come on, bro.
That's just the line you crossing.
I have nothing more to say other than that.
That's sad that he would go that route. I guess that he's going to get attention because obviously everybody who watches The Breakfast Club every chance we get.
And you don't, talk about it.
I'm certainly not going to argue with him.
I've always had a lot of respect for him.
Me and Marcellus Wiley have never had one issue.
I don't care what support he has for his boy or anybody else,
but I would never in a million years say that one black man is scared,
that I fear the intelligence of any man, man i've debated dr michael eric dice
i've debated cornell west you see what i'm saying i've been on the phone with president obama i've
debated political pundits and i'm not even a political aficionado we're talking sports y'all
i mean this ain't geometry or trigonometry or something this is sports
we'll piss you off more marcella's comments or terrell owens comments when he was on first
take back in the day and said you said you weren't max was blacker than you oh no that didn't that
that was just ignorant you know black folks our community you know there ain't nothing in this
world that i love more than black people ain't nothing I'd rather be other than black but that don't mean that we don't have our issues as a community and a lot
of times when you see when you think differently when you think independently our own gets at you
because they want us you know one minute we want to be independent in a maverick style and another
minute we want to walk around and act like we're supposed to be one monolithic group all aligned
in terms of our thinking i don't
subscribe to that nobody thinks for me i think for me and i make my own decisions but when marcella
said what he said it was a disappointment you know because you hurt in us when you say that not me
dare i say i think i've accomplished enough where my level of intelligence is respected
so what about those that may not have accomplished what I've had or haven't had an opportunity to really, really expose the level of intellect they possess?
Well, what are you going to say about them?
Not him specifically, but a country that's looking at a black man saying that about another black man.
So that's fine.
But the T.O. thing, the lawyers, his lawyers contacted ESPN to sue me.
Yes.
Sue you for what?
That's what he said, because he tried to say i said
something off the record that i didn't say so i i don't you know but i've never i've never listen
doing what i do i would never violate the trust because you don't have any credibility you do that
you know one of the things you have to do is know how to keep secrets you can't open your mouth
publicly when you gave your word that you know something's told to you in confidence then when
he called me and talked about i didn didn't tweet, I retweeted.
Well, that's tweeting.
But that pissed me off more.
The Marcellus thing to answer your question made me sad.
Steven, got to go.
I got one last question.
Sure, man.
This is as a father.
Yeah.
Charlemagne has four kids.
I have six.
I have two.
You have two.
Yeah.
Where do you find the time, right?
Because I think I work a lot, right?
I'm traveling everywhere, but I'm like, sports like sports never ends right and you're always doing sports when do you find time for
your family and your kids well first of all it's never enough time my daughters would be the first
to tell you that um they are not happy with me sometimes because even when i'm with them i'm a
bit distracted because there's some sport event going on and there's something percolating
or whatever.
I treat them like the queens that they are.
I do the best that I can.
You know, the bottom line is I don't have time because I am busy.
I make time.
I mean, I could be having to work. I get off at 12 noon and I might have to work at three.
Well, I'll go see him until two.
And then I leave and I come back and I get off at seven.
I go see him at eight.
You know, and I just and I mean I've I've flown I've
had to take a flight from LA to Dallas and I flew on the red eye to New York just to take him to
school and it flew right out to Dallas something like that it's little stuff like that that's big
things to them when it really really counts because they know that you're sacrificing for
them and when they know that they appreciate sacrificing for them and when they know that
they appreciate it and more importantly it's something that they'll hold others accountable
to down the line they'll be like this how my dad treated me how you gonna treat me that's right
ladies and gentlemen that's stephen a smith and straight shooter uh has been recently reprinted
with a new afterward yep and congrats on new york timessellers list. Thank you so much, man. That boy's going to the Super Bowl.
I can't do it.
I can't do it.
Y'all ridiculous, man.
Ridiculous.
The Breakfast Club.
Is your country
falling apart? Feeling tired?
Depressed? A little bit revolutionary?
Consider this.
Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country.
I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this.
It's surprisingly easy.
There are 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete.
Everybody's doing it.
I am King Ernest Emmanuel.
I am the Queen of Laudonia.
I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg.
I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia.
Be part of a great colonial tradition.
Why can't I create my own country? My forefathers did that themselves.
What could go wrong?
No country willingly gives up their territory.
I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warheads.
Oh my god.
What is that? Bullets. Bullets.
We need help! We need help!
We still have the off-road portion to go.
Listen to Escape from Zakistan.

Hey guys, I'm Kate Max.
You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes,
entrepreneurs, and more.
After those runs, the conversations keep going.
That's what my podcast, Post Run High, is all about.
It's a chance to sit down with my guests
and dive even deeper into their stories,
their journeys, and the thoughts that arise
once we've hit the pavement together.
You know that rush of endorphins you feel after a great workout? Well, that's when the real magic
happens. So if you love hearing real, inspiring stories from the people you know, follow, and
admire, join me every week for Post Run High. It's where we take the conversation beyond the run and get into the heart of it all.
It's lighthearted, pretty crazy, and very fun.

This increment of small,
determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love.
I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best
and you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best.
And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing.
Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before.
Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, what's up?
This is Ramses Jha.
And I go by the name Q Ward.
And we'd like you to join us each week for our show Civic Cipher.
That's right.
We're going to discuss social issues, especially those that affect black and brown people, but in a way that informs and empowers all people to hopefully create better allies.
Think of it as a black show for non-black people. We discuss everything from prejudice to politics
to police violence, and we try to give you the tools to create positive change in your home,
workplace, and social circle. Exactly. Whether you're Black, Asian, White, Latinx, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, you name it.
If you stand with us, then we stand with you. Let's discuss the stories and conduct the
interviews that will help us create a more empathetic, accountable, and equitable America.
You are all our brothers and sisters, and we're inviting you to join us for Civic Cipher each and every Saturday with myself, Ramses Jha, Q Ward, and some of the greatest minds in America.
Listen to Civic Cipher every Saturday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey there, I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist who studies human behavior. On my podcast, A Slight Change of Plans,
I marry science and storytelling to better understand how to navigate the big changes
in our lives. It was like a slow nightmare, you know, because every day you think, oh,
surely tomorrow I'll be better. And I would dream of being better. At night, I would dream that my
face was quote unquote normal or back to the way it was.
And I'd wake up and there'd be no change.
I also speak with scientists about how we can be more resilient in the face of change.
You can think of the adolescent brain as like the social R&D engine of our culture.
That they're something that looks like risky and idiotic to us. It's maybe their way of creatively trying to solve the problem of having social success
and fewer of the things that bring you social failure.
Listen to A Slight Change of Plans on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts.
Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club. Angela Rye is here.
But it's time for Pass the Ox.
Go, go, go, go.
DJ, DJ, cause that's my DJ.
Say go, DJ, cause that's my DJ.
It's time for Pass the Ox with DJ Nyla.
Yup.
Nyla, Nyla, Nyla.
Yeah, DJ, come spin, now come spin.
That's right, Pass the Ox, and we have our very own DJ, Nyla, here.
What up, Nyla?
What's up, guys?
How are you?
Good.
Good?
Why nobody respond?
How are you?
Good. We doing good.
I was too busy saying hey and granted.
Okay.
I was too busy being the judgmental uncle.
What are you judging?
You look a little hungover.
You was out last night.
I went out last night. We can tell you was out last night, but it's all good. You can tell I was out last night? You look a little hungover. You was out last night. I went out last night.
We can tell you was out last night,
but it's all good.
You can tell I was out last night.
You look a little hungover.
All right.
You look like you just woke up.
Let's not do this.
Let's do this.
But we glad you were here
because we missed you last week.
Drugs, drinks, what was it?
Come on, what are y'all doing?
Why are you bringing up everything?
I don't do drugs.
You got to stop doing that.
Or plant-based medicine.
I drink a little bit,
but I'm allergic,
but I dabble.
You're allergic to what?
Liquor with the
gluten oh i know i they're just never around that is wild you gotta go to bar can i have a gluten
free um drink yeah that's wild it's good did they have it i didn't even ask i just got this week you
gotta start asking oh so you're probably having an allergic reaction right now possibly oh okay
yeah damn that's the it's not the hangover how did you realize you
allergic to gluten it's a long story but can we get oh i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm not gonna
do my girl like that she's still cute yes thank you you're welcome so i want to talk about first
person shooter featuring j cole of course you do off of drinks for all the dogs because you're a
huge j cole fan and that's the reason why she went to st john's why do y'all always gotta do this
brett please play the record i'm gonna tell you why that that line is so hard is because i love a huge J. Cole fan. And that's the reason why she went to St. John's. Why do y'all always gotta do this? Brett, please,
play the record.
I'm gonna tell you
why that line is so hard
is because I love
when they all acknowledge
that they are the big three
of this era.
You know,
and who he says
they love.
What he said,
they love when they argue
the big three,
K. Dot, Aubrey, or me.
That's when Jay-Z,
remember when Jay-Z said,
who's the best MC?
Biggie Jay-Z.
But J. Cole also said
he's the greatest.
Yeah, Muhammad Ali.
In that bar, yeah.
He's bigging everybody up, but he's staking his claim like, but I'm the guy. As he should. But see said He's the greatest Yeah Muhammad Ali In that bar Yeah He's bigging everybody up But he's staking his claim
Like but I'm the guy
As he should
But see I love the fact that
You know people were saying
At one time that they love J. Cole
But they didn't love his beats
Right
That's what they said at one time
But I love the fact that
J. Cole is
Rapping on
Everybody's album right now
He's giving everybody a feature
And giving people his work
And that's what I like to see about Cole
Did you say that about J. Cole
I remember you said that about
Nas back in the day
I never heard that about Cole Yeah they said about both of them Really They said about Cole and Nas But And that's what I like to see about Cole. Did you say that about J. Cole? I remember you said that about Niles back in the day. I never heard that about Cole.
Yeah, they said about both of them.
They said about Cole and Niles, yeah.
But I will say
what I liked in there
is that he addressed
like the Youngboy thing
with the record
that he dropped with Yachty
the week before.
Like he still want to
cut a record with NBA.
So I don't know.
I think it's dope.
It would be even cooler
if K-Dot was on the record too
just as like a...
Yeah.
You know.
They don't want to get washed.
They both didn't want...
You know what I'm saying?
They don't want that.
Why are you so disrespectful?
Why is that disrespectful?
Listen,
if Kendrick would have heard
J. Cole say he the greatest,
Kendrick would have went crazy.
And Drake was barring people up
on that record too.
Don't act like J. Cole
ain't barring people up.
Don't act like Kendrick
don't be barring people up.
But don't be saying washed.
Yeah, washed is a drag.
It's just that you said washed. Washed is a drag. Kendrick would have washed both of them if he'd have heard J. Cole say he the greatest. That would have like Kendrick. Don't be barring people up. But don't be saying washed. Yeah, washed is a drag. Washed is washed. Washed is a drag.
Kendrick would have washed both of them if he'd have heard J. Cole say he the greatest.
That would have made Kendrick take it to a whole other level.
Well, I feel like maybe K-Dot needs to respond now so I can see who's really one, two, and
three in order.
Kendrick, Cole, or Drake?
When it comes to what?
Man, just answer the damn question.
Because it's Angela Rice.
It's variables.
It's variables.
I think that's tough, too.
They're both in my top five.
It's variables.
I'm going to pick the West Coast. She's from LA. I'm from Seattle, but I'm going to pick the West Coast. It's Variables. It's Variables. I think that's tough, too. They're both in my top five. It's Variables. I'm going to pick the West Coast.
I'm from Seattle, but I'm going to pick the West Coast.
It's Variables.
If we're talking songs, just as a rapper, artist.
Kendrick, one of my favorite.
Lyrically, I like Kendrick.
I got Kendrick.
Yeah, Kendrick, one of my favorite.
But when it comes to making songs, you got to say Drake.
Drake is a great songwriter.
He is, but I feel like Kendrick.
Wait, did you say Kendrick or J. Cole or Kendrick?
Kendrick or Drake.
Oh, Drake wasn't even
in my top anything
okay
okay well
mine is Cole
duh we know that
that's why I didn't
ask you
I like Cole
they're both in my
top five
okay
Cole be lighting it
up recently too
but go ahead
Cole's been going
crazy
but okay so the
next record is
gonna be Balloons
off of No Name's
new project featuring
Jay Electronica
I like that that's hard I ain't get project featuring Jay Electronica. I like that.
That's hard.
I didn't get to hear Jay Electronica, but that's hard.
Jay's verse is really, really fire, but I like that record because she's just talking about how a lot of artists are just selling trauma to their fans.
And people aren't even realizing that they're dumping on you.
But that's what art is, though, right?
Art is a reflection of life.
So whatever you're going through, you're probably going to express in your art.
So I don't know if they're trauma dumping intentionally,
but you know, a lot of artists be like,
oh, my music is therapeutic.
Right.
It's a release.
Yeah.
It's their therapy.
I'm not mad at them.
Just pay attention to what you consume.
That's all.
And then the last one,
I got to make an R&B
because you know the past.
The Ox Live is an R&B night
headlined by Alex Vaughn,
Leia, and Ryan Trey. So I got to do an R&B night headlined by Alex Vaughn, Leia, and Ryan Trey.
So I've got to do an R&B one, and I went with Brent Fyess featuring Coco Jones with Moment of Your Life.
Oh, that's real R&B.
A good duet.
Yeah, that's not R&B rap hybrid.
That's just great R&B.
That was good, right?
Mm-hmm.
Shout out to Brent.
He's from the DMV.
Shout out to Coco, too.
She's really doing her thing.
So if you guys like what y'all heard, make sure you guys download the Pass the ox playlist by clicking my link in bio or type it in past the ox on itunes and make
sure you guys rsvp for the next r&b night past the ox it's brian trey alex vaughn and uh leah
but we also got our open mic people that i just want to shout out because we had a lot of great
submission be prepared have it ready i have it ready okay so we got nia monette al hostile nina ola anisha lassen and gifted so i'm looking forward
to seeing you guys hit the stage i really like our record october 20th where at cafe irizulu
in brooklyn rsvp the next pass to aux live with big nyla thank you nyla of course now we're about
to jump into the mix now what you think i should do? You think I should do old Drake since new Drake came out?
Like, start from the beginning?
I would love that.
Like, best I ever had and go back into the mixtape days?
Yes.
That's what we're going to start the mix with.
Yes, let's do that.
All right.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Let's get into the People's Choice Mix.
The Breakfast Club.
Your mornings will never be the same.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club.
Angela Rye is here
Our special guest host
And we appreciate you
Angela Rye
Thank you
Thank you so much
I actually love
When you come up here
Because we can double team
Charlamagne
Because I really don't like him
That's not true
I really understand
How much I don't like him
When you come here
No you love him
He just has to chill out
There's a lot of light skin
He must have got beat up
By a light skin person
When he was here
I got beat up by two special needs
kids before.
So that's not true.
We weren't going down that route.
No, they weren't actually.
Well, you got a lot of light skin.
No, I don't. Listen, here's the thing.
It's not a stereotype if it's true.
Every single stereotype
of a light skin man is absolutely
true. That might be a slight over
generalization i don't think so i think it might be i think it might be i don't think so well and
i and i don't like when light-skinned women lumped themselves with light-skinned men because y'all
way harder than light i just believe in allyship across the board and coalition building and i
think there are too many issues within our community to create further dissension i'll tell
that to the light-skinned guy the one causing light skin guy let me tell you the biggest troll in this room everybody point to the biggest troll
in this room him right there him right there well let me shout out to my light skin brothers out
there let me shout out to drake he got an album out today let me shout out to steph curry uh let
me shout out to uh chris brown uh let me help you right here you want me help you yes shout out all
the black people that's what you could do.
He's not even black.
He's Dominican.
I am black.
I am not Dominican.
That's the other thing.
I'm not Dominican.
I'm black, sir.
But also, some Dominicans are black, as we talked about at the top of the show.
That is true, but Envy's not one of them.
He's a white Dominican.
Okay.
Okay.
You know he's ready to vote in Florida?
Okay.
No, I'm not.
As a Republican.
No, I'm not.
No, I'm not.
This is misinformation. I'm about to As a Republican. No, I'm not. No, I'm not. This is misinformation.
