Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed human. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me. Clivert Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits,
Starting point is 00:00:12 my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfills of conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.
Starting point is 00:00:28 So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. On The Look Back at it podcast. For 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84's big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Each episode, we pick a hear, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild. I mean, it was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's good, y'all?
Starting point is 00:01:10 You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host Kear Games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to. Listen to learn the hard way on the IHard radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. In 2023, Bachelor star Clayton Eckerd was accused of fathering twins. But the pregnancy appeared to be a hoax.
Starting point is 00:01:48 You doctored this particular test twice, Ms. Ellen's, correct? I doctored the test ones. It took an army of internet detectives to uncover a disturbing pattern. Two more men who'd been through the same thing. Greg, a lesbian, Michael Mancini. My mind was blown. I'm Stephanie Young. This is Love Trapped.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Laura, Scottsdale Police. As the season continues, Laura Owens finally faces consequences. Listen to Love Trapped podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Woke up. Wake you up. Program your alarm to Power 105.1 on Iheart Radio. Good morning, USA. Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, wake that ass up, my bed, God damn.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Peace to the planet is Friday! How y'all feel out there? I feel blessed black and highly favorite. Happy to be here, another day to serve our beautiful listeners. Good morning. How do you make somebody's ass up, man? You know, my bed, Joe. My bed.
Starting point is 00:02:54 I'm so tired. I'm sorry. No, you're on AI. over there trying to create something. That's what you over there doing. You're making some ass up. No, I'm not. What is here she look like over there?
Starting point is 00:03:02 Show me your computer right now. Show me your laptop. Yo, it's nothing. I got my notes up. Shut up. What you're doing? And be you sleep in your Knicks gear last night? I know, that's right.
Starting point is 00:03:11 I definitely woke up this morning and they had my Knicks gear all day. I mean, drop a bomb for the New York Knicks. Please. Perfect. And they went crazy last night. They just went stupid. I hope they play like that every game.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Blue Atlanta out by 40-something. Oh, my goodness. They went crazy. They went crazy. Salute to the Knicks. That was the first time at the second quarter I could actually post because I felt confident enough that we were up by so much that there was no way to Hawks are going to get up. There's no such thing as no way. But yes.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Up 40? Up 50? I mean, it's strange your things have happened. But no, you're right. Yes. You're right. You don't got to sleep butt naked. Well, you had the jersey and the shirt on with no drawers.
Starting point is 00:03:43 I sure did. So what? So what? So what? Well, congratulations, envy on your win. That's what I'm. Thank you. You next.
Starting point is 00:03:49 They're good. Well, congratulations to you because this morning, the star, the star of the Jesselari's friend. franchise family will be joining us this morning. Oh, my god. Roan will be in the building. Not big Rome. I'm looking for like, who you talking about? Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Rome, the reason you even have a book called tell death to be parents. You are so right. You are so right. Yo. And what I want to do is shout out to everybody who came out to the book signing last night at a powerhouse bookstore in Dumbo. Yo, it was a night of liberation. It was, I want to say it was fun, but it was, it was fun.
Starting point is 00:04:21 But it was very powerful, yo, like to know that this book, it's only been out for a few days and people have read it and a lot of people aren't done reading it but at the meet and greet people were coming up to me and telling me how it touched them like our stories and they understand
Starting point is 00:04:37 and I wanted to make it clear that this is not a how-to book this is not a tutorial because everybody's co-parenting journey I was like, you shut up everybody's co-parenting journey looks different you know but I'm glad that people can resonate with my experiences
Starting point is 00:04:50 me and Rome's experiences he was in the building last night it was like wet faces in there people were crying people I did like a little many just fix my mess um and they said that's what this book is reminds them of it's a piece of literature that basically that essentially is a just fix my mess you know but just in rome fixing our mess and in rome got to give perspectives from a father a father's point of view i got to speak for the women um shout out to sim in the shoes that they were there the editors you know shout out to you shah i know you don't like to you don't really care to um speak on the opportunities you give people because that's not what you do it for but I do
Starting point is 00:05:27 thank you I don't always like you but I love you thank you for drop a bomb for shal-a-ball for even birth and the idea for me to write a book about this story this is really going to impact so many people yes it was a very emotional night last night last night don't thank you you're welcome well big Rome will be joining us this morning big Rome not the little room okay by the way just fixed my mess started with her in Rome she she was fixing her own mess and helped own fixes. The whole time. That's right. And also the Rizzo will be joining us this morning. Let me tell you all something. I told y'all earlier this week.
Starting point is 00:06:00 One spoon of chocolate, the movie is out in Theetus today. It's an instant classic for me. It's already one of my favorite movies of all time. I might have put too much sauce on it already, but y'all need to go see it this weekend. If you like Michael Jackson, his daughter's in it as well. That's right. But Rizzo will be here to talk about it this morning. And she plays an amazing character. Man. They don't use it. Oh, that's Michael Jackson's daughter. He's an actress in the movie.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Yes. During the movie, Shulman was like, you know that's Michael Jackson's daughter. Like, she gets busy in the movie. I tried to watch it last night, but I couldn't get the mirror screen to work on the laptop and the TV, so me and my wife just fell asleep.
Starting point is 00:06:33 That is a struggle. That's when you call your oldest kid in the room. That's what I had to do to figure that one out. Yeah, I couldn't be. I couldn't get it. But it's in theaters today, though. That's in theaters today. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Great. All right. Well, let's get the show cracking. We got front page news coming up. Mimi will be joining us. What you got for us this morning? Oh, yeah. That's New York.
Starting point is 00:06:49 That's not, why you're looking funny? New York won last night. Yes, welcome to the Empire State. It's the breakfast club. Good morning, Jay Z. Alicia Keys, let's go. Morning, everybody. It's DJ NV.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Jace O'Lari and Sholomey and the Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get some front page news. Now, last thing, some quick sports. The Knicks beat the Hawks. How many times? Many times if your Cowboys ever won. The Nicky's Hocke 1489.
Starting point is 00:07:14 Damn. If your Cowboys ever were. One 10, 998. And last night, the 76 is tied to the series. They beat the Celtics 106.93. What's up, Mimi? Good morning, Mbj. J. Shalemaine, how y'all doing this morning?
Starting point is 00:07:28 Peace, Mimi, Brown. Good morning. So we start this morning with a major development out of Washington. The longest shutdown of a federal department in U.S. history is now over. Donald Trump has signed a bill to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security, ending a 76-day shutdown that left agencies like 10. TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard stretched very thin then. So those agencies, they will now be funded through the end of September.
Starting point is 00:07:56 This comes after a growing pressure on House leaders. As officials warned that money was about to run out for those paychecks, that those D.H workers, they were not about to get paid again. Here is House Speaker Mike Johnson. This will relieve pressure from the Department of Homeland Security. Secretary Mullen, who I've spoken to in the last couple of hours, will be greatly relieved. the president will, the administration will.
Starting point is 00:08:19 We were not going to have lines at TSA. Everybody will get their paychecks now. We'll get moving forward. And then we will finish the work and finally get, again, for three years with no crazy Democrat reforms, we will fund Border Patrol and immigration enforcement as soon as we return for the work session when that bill is finalized. I'm happy for all the federal workers who are finally going to be getting paid. And at least they know they don't have to worry about this until until the fall at least. But sadly, we'll probably be right back here at the end of September.
Starting point is 00:08:45 I'm sure we will be. Yes, for sure. And you notice how border patrol and ice, they're working on a bill to fund that for three more years. But that was not included in this funding bill that just passed lawmakers. They're going on another two-week break starting today. And when they return, they say that they will tackle that border control and ICE funding without democratic support. So we will continue to watch that. All I care about it, the people getting their paychecks, man. That's all. I'm happy for them.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Yeah. Very, very important. And a major shakeup in Louisiana's elections, the governor has now passed the state's house races, or excuse me, has now pushed the state's past the house races just days before voting was set to take place. So Republican governor, Jeff Landry, he made that call after the U.S. Supreme Court. They ruled that the state's current congressional maps are unconstitutional. So that map included two majority black districts. And the court says race may have been used. too heavily in drawing
Starting point is 00:09:48 those lines. So absentee voting had actually already started in Louisiana. Early voting was supposed to begin this weekend, but now House races are on hold with primaries push back to July while lawmakers work to redraw those maps.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Shreveport Congressman Cleo Fields is calling this a grave setback. Let's listen. People have a right to participate in their democracy. If you tell me that I got to be a, I got to jump a certain height, I could probably do that. Tell me I got to run a certain district. I could, uh, distance.
Starting point is 00:10:25 I could probably do that too. But if you tell me, I have to be white to serve in Congress from Louisiana. I can't do nothing about that. I need some help from my government. That's right. And that's why we need to pass as soon as possible. The John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Uh, this is about democracy.
Starting point is 00:10:45 for the country, but precisely for southern states in our country. They need to help the help of the voting rights act. I love a black woman. Did you all hear that part? She was co-signed and the ad living. Yeah. Yeah. So other races on the ballot, including the Senate and statewide offices, those will still move forward.
Starting point is 00:11:10 The move is already facing legal challenges, though, with some Democrats arguing that stopping the election now could confuse voters and undermine the process. And really quickly, the man who was accused of trying to assassinate President Trump, he was back in court. He will remain behind bars. Prosecutors say 31-year-old Cole Allen spent hours tracking the president's movements online before he showed up at that White House correspondence dinner. They say that he had multiple weapons. We talked about this, the gun, the pistol, and the knives. and he had been planning the attack for weeks,
Starting point is 00:11:44 even sending messages to his family before it happened. Now, Alan did not challenge his detention. So for now, he will stay in custody. His next hearing is set for May 11. You know, I saw another video. Maybe I'm tripping. I was about to say the same one, go ahead. He ain't fired no shot.
Starting point is 00:12:00 He just ran through with the rifle, though. He had the rifle in his hand when he ran through that metal detective. Like, all the officers just looked at him at first. But I just don't understand how he got out of that situation a lot. Like, you run in a situation like that with the, with the rifle and the secret service only end up shooting each other. Like, that's crazy. Like, that's nuts to me.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Yes, me too. But all right. Well, thank you, Mimi. For sure. Absolutely. Coming up at 11, or excuse me, at 7, some airlines are cracking down on a device that many of us bring on each flight. We're going to tell you what it is.
Starting point is 00:12:29 And if you packed it this morning, you may want to take it out your bag. You hear that, Studge? You know your studge? Studge. All my studs, I tell. You hear that? You hear what Mimi talking about now?

Starting point is 00:13:44 I just feel like I'm a, a tit-for-tat type of person. A match energies. Okay, and the reason I was calling was because I think somewhere at the end of the interview, you would have something about an apology to the later. Did you want to apologize to people or something? Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Okay, do you need to apologize to now for something? No, I didn't offend nobody. I'm a tit-for-tat type of person. I only use Cracker when somebody uses the N-WR. I love Kevin, but he's a great BS. Kev was talking like her show wasn't being canceled. Hell yeah. Kev you came to a little too late.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Kev became a couple of seasons earlier. You were saying this. The numbers might have been. higher and she just stayed on the air we love Sherry though but I'm just saying he was talking like I know where you are with the show and you know he's very impactful with the show being canceled it's a lot
Starting point is 00:25:35 Don't do that to Sherry because it wasn't rated for Sherry and yeah Kevin be busy so he popped out now we appreciate the problem she did anyway but also she had another surprise guest and you guys heard in the beginning how like there's like the voice is kind of like hidden it's because
Starting point is 00:25:51 she's literally having a guess on air who the people are coming out that's dope For the people who are listening that haven't seen it. I watched Sherry. Okay. So she had another surprise guest come. They called her to the station to say their goodbye to Sherry on air. Let's take a listen to Gil King.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Guys, on the way down here, the elevator got stuck. Even the elevator doesn't want you to go. We were stuck in the elevator. But I wanted to be here on the last day. Thank you, Gil. The last glad show, I wanted to be here. I love you. Nobody like you.
Starting point is 00:26:23 And thank you for always being there. me and giving me advice and just showing me how to do this thing by myself. I appreciate you. I love you and I'm hearing you on and whatever you do next. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Sherry, I'm just not ready. I'm not ready, but there's nobody. There's nobody like this woman on TV today. Nobody. You are going to be missed, but what I know is I can't wait to see what she does next because we will all be there. You will all be there. You see the contrast? Gail is fully aware that this is the last live show compared to Cav. I guarantee you. Listen, this is the difference.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Gail knows that this is the last show. Gail knows that Sherry will be missed. Kev was talking like she's just getting started. Yes. Wait, you want to play it again? Listen, listen. Have we ever been married to each other? Not to my memory.
Starting point is 00:27:14 Okay, good. Because if it was, somebody was glad to get fired, I swear to God. Are you a comic? Yeah. Trevor Noah, Bill Burr, a comic, Like Kevin Hart. Mr. Guest, come. I am.
Starting point is 00:27:29 I didn't come. No. My schedule, of course, is crazy. And I think, you know, when you've asked me in the past, it just didn't line up and I couldn't. But I feel like now is more valuable and more impactful than ever because I know where you are with the show. This is more about me putting a stamp on like the job that you've done. You know, the relationships that you have in the business are outstanding, but you demand a high level of star power. level of star power because of who and what you are.
Starting point is 00:28:06 That star power should have been there years earlier. Right. We wouldn't be having this conversation if it was there earlier probably. Gail wanted to cry. She's like, I'm sorry. This is your last show. Gail wouldn't have to say it's the last show up to Star Power had been showing up earlier for Sherry.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Well, sending love to Sherry Shepard as you close out this chapter. So they filmed that live episode this week, I'm told. But the last episode will actually air next week. So just in case people see it, like, what the heck? What's going to be in that time slot? I don't know yet. I don't know. But we'll see, I guess.
Starting point is 00:28:40 Because they used to be windy. Now it's Sherry. Yeah, well, I don't know. We'll try to get some answers to that. But I have no idea right now. But speaking of other talk shows yesterday, it was announced that Drusky will be hosting the 2026 BET Awards, making him the youngest. Making him the youngest host in BETT Awards history.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Kevin Hart previously held that title. And now Drusky has come in. clip set. Let's take a listen to the video Drewski dropped with VET yesterday. What's up? It's Drusky. Your host for the BETI Awards 2026. I told BT if I'm hosting, we're going to do this my way. Rule number one, Jamie Fox,
Starting point is 00:29:15 take that big ass hat off. Rule number two. Sexy Red, no leggings, rompers, body suits. We don't need no wrestlers, no wrestlers on the red carpet, black suit and tie. Rule number three, Y-N's, take the ski mask off, man. Rule number four, mega-passers.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Listen, I know y'all. on my back right now. I've been getting the DMs and the threats. Just leave it up to God. Leave it up to God. We're going to lock them doors and can't nobody get out. Welcome to the 2026 BET Awards. Dropping a clue, bon. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:29:48 I can't wait to see what Drusky does. I can't wait even. I'm locked in. I love that for Drewski. I love that for BET Awards too, man. Me too. I thought that that was so smart for them. Very, very smart for them. I got a statement from Drewski. It says it's an honor to be the youngest host ever for the BET Awards. I grew up watching Beatty Awards and the comedic legends that hosted
Starting point is 00:30:06 before me set the bar so high. So I'm grateful to be a part of history. But I'm still bringing my brand of comedy to the stage. So expect a little chaos, a lot of laughs and some of your favorite. Tremont's phone. I need Drewski to do Drusky. You know you on the radio boy. I'm talking about turning mama phone on. I need Drusky to do Drusky. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Yeah, I mean, he will. He will. I think he's just, you know, going to play it. He said he's doing his way, so hopefully we do see that. Yes. He's funny as hell. And the B to your words go down Sunday, June 28th at 8 p.m. And we will be there again this year. The Breakfast Club will be there bringing you guys some content from the media room and other places. You always talking about we.
Starting point is 00:30:41 I am not going to be there on June 20th. I already know. When I go, y'all go. That's right. When I go, you go, y'all go. I say we, I mean, I'm going to be bringing it back to the show. We will be discussing it. But we'll have a front of seat.
Starting point is 00:30:53 Say, I'll be there representing the Breakfast Club. Yeah. We ain't going to be there. I know. Y'all don't be going to go nowhere. Yes, we'll go. But if you invite me, you got to go.
Starting point is 00:31:02 five times she's going to not show up three of them. I pull up, though. Envy pop out, yeah. Shaw the man ain't going to go in. No, that's a day before my born day. I'm not going. I'll be at home watching it. Oh, yeah. Okay. Yes, but congratulations to Druski and, you know, congratulations to Sherry too, because she's going to be going into a new era of her life.
Starting point is 00:31:19 She says she's not giving up on some things. So we'll see what happens next. All right. That is the latest with Lauren. Yes, I'm out of time. I'm actually not in town. I'm in town. My daughter gets on stage in about another hour. So, you know, we set all these alarms to make sure we're up on times. Like turn alarm. I thought I turned my mic down,
Starting point is 00:31:34 but I guess it didn't. No, you didn't. No, DJ, envy. You didn't hit my bad. All right. Well, when we come back,
Starting point is 00:31:40 we got front page news and then the star of the Jess hilarious universe. One of the stars of Jess hilarious. Her baby daddy. The star of Jesselarius is co-parenting universe. Big Role.
Starting point is 00:31:51 He shot the club up first. Oh, that's why they got the book Tell Death do we parent. Raising my kid with my dad. He's the dad. Lord. He's the past.
Starting point is 00:32:02 He's going to be joining us next hour, so don't move. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ NV. Just hilarious. Salomeyne de Guy. We are the Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:32:11 Let's get in some front page news. Sort of fucking quick sports. Stimba Hall's, speak to Nuggets. 1.1098 sent the Nuggets home. 76 is tied to series yesterday. They tied it with the Celtics. They won 106.93. And then Nick squashed finished, sent home the Hawks.
Starting point is 00:32:26 140 to 89 last night. Jesus. Put some extra on it, Ev. I know that's right. And he's slept in his Knicks jersey and his Knicks had last night with no pants, no drawers on. He is. So what? So what?
Starting point is 00:32:38 So congratulations to the New York Knicks. What's up, Mimi? Good morning, y'all. How you doing this morning? Hey, me, Brown. Good. Good morning. So we start this hour with the story out of New York City where one arrest has put a growing crime back in the spotlight.
Starting point is 00:32:53 It's called deed theft. It's when someone steals the title to your home without you knowing. So the issue is now front and center after a Brooklyn council member was arrested last. week defending a long time a black homeowner facing eviction. So that case is now drawing attention to a much larger issue. Scammers targeting homes often in black neighborhoods using tactics like forged signatures, fake paperwork, or pressuring family members with partial ownership to force a sale. In some cases, homes that have been in the family for generations are taken and resold for a profit. Now officials say there have been thousands of complaints over the past decades with. with hundreds more reported just last year. And Mayor's Iran Mandami, he is now creating a new mayor's office of deed theft protection to crack down on the fraud.
Starting point is 00:33:41 Let's listen. City government is too often stood idly by while deed theft occurs. Every New Yorker should be able to lead a dignified life in the home that they grew up and in the city that they love. Yeah. Have you guys heard about this? No. No, this is the first time ever hearing about a deed theft.
Starting point is 00:33:58 The congressman, the councilman, got arrested about a week ago. But yeah, it happens a lot in, it's definitely in New York, and it usually happens when a lot of older people own the homes. They don't know what they're signing or the deed is stolen. That actually happened to my grandfather's house. My grandfather owned a town, a big brownstone in Brooklyn. And when he passed, he didn't leave it to anybody, right? And it was on, it was every, it was a part of everybody. So it was like, my mom had a part.
Starting point is 00:34:21 My mom's sister had a part. Like his brother had a part? Yeah. So it was, and then they were able to actually take it. It didn't make sense for fighting. Most people don't fight because they don't actually. you live in that house as a house that's passed down and we didn't fight for it so somebody actually
Starting point is 00:34:34 took it but yeah it happens a lot in New York City and I'm glad people are hearing more and more and more about it because people are losing their houses and we all know that's where a lot of generational wealth is started from people passing down the homes from generations to generations to generations absolutely that's it in a nutshell
Starting point is 00:34:50 envy they said that seniors in Brooklyn and in Queens they have been hit especially hard by this deep theft problem Peter White he's an attorney with the access Justice Brooklyn, he will be overseeing it for the mayor's office. Let's listen to a little bit of what he said. Any potential scammers see these people as being the most vulnerable population in New York City, and we're going to try to help correct that. Yeah. And so the city, they are putting real money behind it, about 10 million to fund investigations, legal help for homeowners, and to crack down on fraudulent property filings, targeting scams that often hit those seniors, and just, you know, underserved communities, people who don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:30 anything other than you know what someone shows up at their door and tells them and then ends up taking their property it's amazing how much people don't care about karma man like folks just really really live for the moment like they really have like a such a short-term way of thinking because that energy definitely comes back to you you taking advantage of old people like that it's usually white older businessmen and they usually get it for nothing close to nothing or they usually just pay off the water bill or electric bill to get in and now you know a lot of those properties are worth well over millions and millions of dollars. So, yeah, they do it a lot.
Starting point is 00:36:02 They start off with phone calls. It's a whole process and a whole thing. It's a whole scheme that they've been doing for years. And so, yes, a shout out to the mayor for doing something about that. And starting today, if you're flying American Airlines, there is a new rule that you need to know about. Portable chargers, those power banks that you use for your phone are now restricted. Passengers can bring no more than two, and they can't be packed in those overhead bins anymore. Instead, they have to be kept with you visible during the flight.
Starting point is 00:36:31 There's also a size limit chargers must be under 100 watts, which covers most of our standard phone chargers, but they could impact those larger portable chargers that people have. I know I have like two of them, and I travel with them often. But airlines say those lithium batteries can overheat, catch fire. And so now keeping them within reach helps crews respond quickly if there was something. So if you're flying today, check your bag because something as small as a portable charge, could now hold you up at the airport and that's crazy I didn't even I didn't even think about that everybody has those portable charges you know but that's what they
Starting point is 00:37:04 actually when you check your bag like is there any lithium batteries or something else they ask you don't you know that they ask you that before you check a bag so yeah so now what I'm putting to and two together I'm like oh that's why because they can catch fire yeah but if it's in your check luggage how would they know right they don't go through your luggage especially when you're getting on the plane you know if it's connected to your actual roller they look and say open you open the case to make sure that battery's not there but like how would that
Starting point is 00:37:28 They know they're not going in people's bags or going in your backpack. Because they're just taking your word for it at this point. Yeah. Yeah, it definitely sounds like the honor system here. But I know, like with me, if I travel with a lot of equipment, I'm packing all of those things, you know. And honestly, you know, sometimes, like, I'll be lying because I say no because if I say, yeah, I think they're going to send me home or something.
Starting point is 00:37:51 I mean, the reality is when they say that I don't even know what the hell they be talking about. You have any lithium batteries? I don't know what the liquid is a lithium battery. What is a lithium battery? I don't think I have a lithium battery. Okay, as far as to my knowledge, I don't. Okay. Do y'all know what lithium means?
Starting point is 00:38:05 No. So that's why I'm glad she is giving us this story, because I didn't know that that's what a lithium battery was. See, you've been lying to these people all this time. Yeah, and I ain't know I'm always, I always got them. Yeah, no, I think a lot of people feel like that. I think they were just trained to be like, nope, I don't have it, you know, instead of saying what is a lithium battery?
Starting point is 00:38:21 And then they ask you, do you have anything flammable? I'm like, no. Yeah. But we probably do. I don't know. Yep. Now you know. So there you have it.
Starting point is 00:38:31 If you do have it, either don't bring it or I think it has to be under a certain size. So you might want to just look it up before you travel nowadays. Thank you, Mimi. And, yep.
Starting point is 00:38:41 And speaking of airports, if you're traveling through Hartsfield, Jackson, Atlanta International Airport, there's something new to check out. So a concept store called the Village Retail has just opened a new location
Starting point is 00:38:51 in Concourse B. It's featuring products from black-owned brands. You'll find everything from beauty wellness, the lifestyle, and art, all curated for travelers passing through. So the move brings these businesses into one of the busiest airports in the world, putting them in front of millions of people every year. Here's Mayor Andre Dickens at the grand opening. We don't do these kind
Starting point is 00:39:13 of grand openings often at Hartsfield Jackson, Atlanta International Airport. I think about Maynor Jackson, first like mayor of the city of Atlanta. And he had a vision. We stand in the presence of their vision. I believe that Maynard Jackson would be smiling right now at three local minority-owned businesses getting their shot at the big leagues here at the world's busiest
Starting point is 00:39:37 and most efficient airport. I love it. Drop on the clues bomb for all of those businesses, man. That's incredible. Yeah. And shout out to Dr. Key. This is her vision coming to live. Lakeisha Helman. This is her village retail in the Atlanta. So Concourse B, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:39:55 is that Delta? That's not Delta. Concourse B is... I feel like everything in Atlanta is Delta. I have no idea. Yeah. But if you are in Atlanta, Concourse B, the village retail is now open and it is highlighting black-owned businesses,
Starting point is 00:40:10 which is very important. We have support in order to keep them in the airport. I love Atlanta Airport, man. One of my favorite things to do is get to Atlanta airport early because they got every single restaurant you can name. In Atlanta airport.
Starting point is 00:40:22 You get caught in the right terminal and you're a fat ass boy. It's heaven. All right, y'all. Well, happy Friday. That is your front page news. I am Mimi Brown. Follow me at Mimi Brown TV. If we're still stories, follow the Black Information Network.
Starting point is 00:40:39 All right. Thank you, Mimi. Thank you. Now, when we come back, the star of Jess Hilaris's universe will be joining us. Yo, not her universe. It's her own. Her book. Her book universe, yes.
Starting point is 00:40:53 Not Little Room, big Rome. Her baby daddy will be joining us. Of course, she just wrote a book called To Death Do We Parent? And Rome is here to talk about their relationship. Hold on you got to say the subtitles. Raising My Kid with his dad. Yes. The dad is Rome and Jess is here to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:41:09 Yo, you are crazy. The star of my universe is going. So first of all, don't ever play with me. And then what about Chris? What about Ashley? What about Mama Robbins? Yes. God damn it.
Starting point is 00:41:19 Yeah, Clare, y'all. Rome is up there, though. Rome is up there. And we're going to talk to Roan next. He ended up opening credits. He ended up in the refrigerator and he just look up. Exactly. Oh, and listen, today is Friday.
Starting point is 00:41:31 You know on Friday we do the people's donkey. So if you want to call up and give somebody the credit they deserve for being stupid, you want to give somebody the biggest he-haaw. You can do that right now. 1-800-585-105-1. We're going to talk to Room next. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Morning, everybody. It's DJ NV. Jensilarious. Sholomey Naga. We are the Breakfast Club. We got a special guest in the building. And first of all, make sure. sure the door is locked and I'm glad that her phone is in here because she can't use her phone
Starting point is 00:41:55 to get in the room so make sure the door is locked correct just hilarious can't get in we got our guy Rome Rome here who is just his baby's father that's right Ash's dad's dad and you know just put out her new book this week tell deaf do we parent it's available everywhere you buy books now and it talks about how they got to a healthy place of co-parenting um with each other that's right and I haven't even talked to Rome I ain't reach out to Rome I wanted to talk to Rome face to face Rome. Rome What did you think of the book? Word. Tell death to you.
Starting point is 00:42:23 What was your first film? First film. Honest. Honest, honest. You read the book. First chapter. I feel like some things wasn't explained the correct way. We're not supposed to let her in.
Starting point is 00:42:35 Yeah, you're supposed to let her in. You're supposed to keep her out for a little bit. Okay, let Rome talk. Rome has the floor. Rome has the floor. You can sit down, Jess. Unless you want to leave. You can also leap.
Starting point is 00:42:47 Okay, yes. Yeah, I'm a leave. All right. You can leave. You can leave. You can leave. Okay. We just asked to.
Starting point is 00:42:51 first question. I reckon. It's too late. You got nothing. It's too late. Okay. Now, back to what you were saying? What did you think of the book till death do we're paying?
Starting point is 00:42:58 You said first chapter. You were saying it was cap. Honestly, not even cap. I just think after women read it, they're going to hate me. And why? Because, of course, no man can't go through that. But when women are going through like, postpartum,
Starting point is 00:43:13 those stages and stuff like that, if you read this the first chapter, it's going to be like I was a dog. Like, I did everything during those times when I didn't. So you weren't a dog? No, I feel like she fabricated it far as putting it too early. It was late.
Starting point is 00:43:29 It was later than that. I didn't do any of that doing postpartum. But it was a dope book, interesting, very transparent to see that we've grown so much. And to share with other people on, you know, that co-prensons is not a bad thing. I think that that's the biggest part in the goal that we always talked about. And that was for years, even when we started co-parencial therapy back in, it was COVID. So I want to say, like, 20, 21 when it was shut now. But yeah, man, the book is, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:00 But see, that's what I got from the book. That's what I say. I don't think people will hate you if they read past the first chapter. You know what I mean? Because you do get to the growth in the evolution of both of you. Yes. You know what I mean? Not just you.
Starting point is 00:44:12 Both of you. Yeah. And but you got some people who ain't going to read through the book. That's right. Right. Yeah. They're going to pinpoint and take out parts. And they're going to run with.
Starting point is 00:44:20 certain narrative. I see the captions and highlights. The same way they do clips on Instagram or TikTok, whatever the case may be. It hate you off a clip and didn't even let you elaborate or explain yourself. What chapter hurt your feelings the most? And don't lie because I know you read it more than one time.
Starting point is 00:44:34 What chapter was it? And that never really hurt me because I own up to what I do. I ain't never been ashamed of anything. I'll tell you why, because I always had a choice. I decided to make those choices. But what was heart warming to me was that she's able to talk about it now.
Starting point is 00:44:50 because a lot of times she wouldn't ever open up about it. And just to share that light on how much I've grown as a man and as a father, I just was, you know, apart. I was not even apart. I was really, yeah, I was just excited, man. I really was excited. You could tell she has a lot of love for you regardless, you know. A lot of love.
Starting point is 00:45:07 Yeah, love is always there. I'm just excited because if anybody who really know me truly and genuinely know me, that's my dog. How did you feel when, you know, she recently excerpts came out of the book And she talked about not necessarily wanting your first child, but wanted to keep you more than anything. So to make you happy, she was willing to do anything for you. How did that make you feel? As a father of five now, I understand.
Starting point is 00:45:33 And I say that because even when I go back to her and I'll be like, if you're going to leave me alone, don't go get another of me. It's one of those things where, okay, well, if you're having a child, make sure that you know that this is going to be a family. And I never wanted a lot of kids. I always wanted a family. but, you know, I was emotional. I would say dumb, not thinking, vulnerable in those moments, even as a kid. But I think, I don't know, I think it just shaped her to be the wife that she is now. Do you look back at it and say, I messed this family up because she talks about,
Starting point is 00:46:02 she thought that y'all had a perfect family. Y'all were taking pictures and y'all were doing things as a family and a couple. And all of a sudden she got a comment that says, Rome, oh, he here with you, but he played a house on this other house. And matter of fact, he got a baby coming. Did you ever look back that and be like, damn, I effed that up? I look back sometimes and say, I wish I did things different. I ain't never going to say I wish I f-ed it up because who knows if I wouldn't have
Starting point is 00:46:29 did what I did, then we still would have been together because it goes both ways. And a lot of things that I've done, it was out of reactions. You know, it was three sides of every story. Their side, your side, and the truth. Me, I just wasn't that heartless to just go out and do these things. I didn't even have access to. So that's why we're going to dive deeper into those things. But I wouldn't say I f*** up.
Starting point is 00:46:52 I would say I just wish I to did things different. Just to give us a chance. Because I never even gave us a chance. Gotcha. That's a great question and just a great framing of it. Like if there were no kid involved, right? If there was no Ashton, would y'all still choose each other? You think?
Starting point is 00:47:10 At that moment? Yeah. No. Why? Because Ashton was the. clue. Ashton was the one that kept it around. And me, I'm low tolerance. And Jessica speaks on that. She'll speak again on it. We spoke on that on the podcast when women don't do. And it might sound controlling or it might sound like I'm a narcissist, you know, at that moment, not now because I'm a change man, you know. At that moment, it may sound like I'm being controlling. But I felt like at the time, younger days, if women wasn't in my, if they weren't in compliance, it wasn't no benefit. It wasn't no benefit. fit to me. So just just walk back in the room. I want to expound on the question I
Starting point is 00:47:49 just asked you. What was it about Jess that would make you not want to be with her if there was no action? Because he said he wouldn't be with you if it wasn't asked. At that moment, at that moment, at that moment we was children. So it wasn't really nothing to be with our own, especially after all the things I did. And I say that to say
Starting point is 00:48:08 at that time, of course, you know, a lot of men live with women for convenience and stuff like that. I didn't need any of that. I'm living at home. mom so if there's no child we'd have went out separate ways because it was easy to go separate ways with no time it's easy to go separate ways when you're not married right right marriage and children is the tie on okay let's see because you don't really want to start over like it's hard starting over it's not even hard just too much time and you got to relearn a person and then you don't even know if that person going to be the person for you so it takes time now you said it was
Starting point is 00:48:43 reactional the fact that you know you cheated was it reactional because you didn't want to be in a family at the time or you didn't want to be tied down or was her this was you know what was reactional no just did yeah okay now let's get to it oh charlemagne what yeah just just just did just did things and it's some it's some things i said i would never speak on okay i'm taking that to the grade with me because yeah that's why you believe that might not be yours at one point no i never I never believed that. Oh. I've seen him.
Starting point is 00:49:13 He was mine through the sonogram. I'm talking about it. At the moment, at the moment, at the moment, I never really even believed it. It was more so I was upset because of the heat of the moment,
Starting point is 00:49:24 boy. Oh, you just said that to piss off. Okay, okay. Yeah, I'm emotional. I'm emotional. Damn, Jess. Yeah. I know.
Starting point is 00:49:30 I mean, told him that question might not be his. But she had, and she, and I read that four, five times again on train a day. That would be a particular part of the old. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:41 feel when she said that to you? Of course, you know, as a man, you hurt in the moment. You, you, you, mind you're shane in my face, so I think it wouldn't different if she was in my face. But I didn't, I never thought Ashen wasn't mine. I just think she of all people, at that moment, even now, know how to get under my skin. There's only two things that really bother me.
Starting point is 00:50:00 My children and my mom. It ain't really nothing else you can really say to me that were really moving. Why didn't you fight for the relationship after, you know, just was like it's over? You know, you had another baby on the way. let's clear that up okay it was over before I had a baby on the way Jessica that I know wrong
Starting point is 00:50:17 I just was trying to like be with you and give my family like because that's what I wanted ultimately I wanted that family dynamic I wanted to grow up I want to ask to grow up in house with me and you together you know and I yeah it was over I had mentally checked out you was like moved like you had moved on and everything
Starting point is 00:50:37 but like you was still selfish because I couldn't be with a woman you didn't want me but I couldn't be with nobody else no we clearing it up because in the book it makes it seem like I had a baby on you well you were dealing with ashton is three number two I'm at ashton is 14 okay a leah is 11 yeah when did we split when he was like about two or three yeah one we split once and yeah yeah but I took you back I got back with you remember when I met yo correct you know I can't say his real name but yeah we When I met Emmanuel.
Starting point is 00:51:12 Why didn't you say, you know what? I'm going to cut the BS out and I'm going to fight for my family. Because it's just. Music. Who, bro? Yo, got it. Oh, yeah. That's, yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:21 Okay. Yeah, okay. One thing he said. And you can curse and say it. One thing he said was, a, I can do a thousand one thing. Once that girl, that one person, we can't take it. Mm. Mm.
Starting point is 00:51:34 So at that moment. And then even at that time, like, you know, still it's peer pressure, people around you. Oh, and then at that time, I, really cared about what my friends thought. So it was basically, and then it was like a manhood. And, you know, like my father didn't really say too much negative, but, you know, he said the things he said. But, you know, I think I was more so heartbroken because of, you know,
Starting point is 00:51:57 certain things that she did do. Rome overthanks, like he creates these scenarios in his mind, and he overthanks and he thanks himself out of the relationship. He's not wrong for that. Yeah. Even though we shouldn't make assumptions, he's not right. But when I'm right, I'm right. When I'm wrong, I could have been right, but when I'm right, I was wrong, but I wasn't wrong.
Starting point is 00:52:15 Okay, okay. I see what I'm saying. No, yeah, I ain't hold you. But no, you, no, you, you did some things to me too. Yeah, I believe, okay, let's, all right, that's fine. Yeah, you, and I'll take accountability for it. You did a lot of things in me. I didn't pull it up on Jessica a couple times. Pulled up on a where, yo? In her neighborhood. Tell me. I mean, tell me. And then that's one thing, too. I don't like when you ignore my phone calls. Control. Don't ignore my phone calls. Control. Don't ignore my phone and then don't hang up on me when I'm trying to explain. Because you're not...
Starting point is 00:52:46 Let me get my point across because then that means you don't care about how I feel. And that's one thing about this society. Nobody cares about how men actually feel. And then when men try to open up... And I looked at... It's on the same track that Michael Beasley and Shannon Sharp. I felt a lot of things Michael Beasley said.
Starting point is 00:53:04 When a man tried to open up, y'all laugh at me. Until it's too late. I'm just glad he was able to get the help he needed to be able to tell his story but it's a lot of other men who are ashamed of door but this book and that ties everything to this book
Starting point is 00:53:21 this book is a great book because his father's out there that's hopeless because you got a lot of types of dib beats you got dibbees who they don't do something to baby mother say that did beat you got debes who just actually don't give a
Starting point is 00:53:35 you got dibs who said oh don't get to don't have that child and then you still have the child. It's so many different ones. For the men who actually want to be in their kid's life, I just don't understand why women don't want to allow that. Let's stay there for a second because I asked Rome. I said, Rome,
Starting point is 00:53:50 if you had a title for your book, what would be called? You had a very interesting title. I got the second one. I got two, so I'm the second one. Let a father would be a father. Not when it's convenient for you. That's not when it's convenient for you is what got me. Do you feel
Starting point is 00:54:06 like she only wanted you to be a father when it was convenient for her? No. Okay. Not with her. I got a lot of, of course you know I got a line. But no, with me and Jessica, it was never about, you understand, man, this is before, this is, that's why it's most genuine, because she didn't keep a child because of a status or some, some money or whatever the case we can be.
Starting point is 00:54:24 We just was honestly thought we was in love. And then when I grew up, I didn't grow up on spinning out blocks and that type of music. I grew up on Bawao and little Romeo and Sammy. So, like, it was love music. And you just, I always just want to. those fairy tales. Like my favorite show growing up was Sweet Life
Starting point is 00:54:42 and Zach and Cody because of the family dynamic. So it's like for a young man to want that and then you see my life didn't get that that's one of the things
Starting point is 00:54:52 I'd be like, damn. I don't say I f***ed up but I'd be like well why I couldn't get what you want those cards and I saw always a lot of my friends
Starting point is 00:55:00 I used to be jealous of my friends growing up they had a mom and dad and I didn't and I told him they bro like I don't like you love you but I don't like you Your friend or your day?
Starting point is 00:55:10 My friends They had what I wanted And then I just used to see how they just Never appreciated their mom Was the co-parenting way That's your co-parent now Was that always there Or they had to get there
Starting point is 00:55:21 Like at first was Just not letting you see your son Or you didn't want to see your son How did it originally start? So it was always co-parenting I was co-parenting with her mother With my mother Yeah
Starting point is 00:55:32 With Mama Robin Because Jess didn't want to see you Because Jess was Jess I didn't want to see you She had to see me, though, because she was living at the daycare. So she was going to see me. But it's never been the point where I couldn't see my son or he's keeping away from me because she has that family dynamic who this ain't that. And just why didn't you?
Starting point is 00:55:55 Because most people would have been like, he did me dirty. He cheated on me. He did all these things. I'm going to use my son to hurt him. A lot of people do that. We see that a lot in relationships. Why wasn't your mind frame that as hurt as you are? I just, yeah, I just.
Starting point is 00:56:09 couldn't do it. I gave Rome a lot of grace because you know I was doing my my issue too but you know it's not about who well actually it was it was about who started it but whatever but once we started going back and forth trying to hurt each other and trying to make each other feel the pain that
Starting point is 00:56:24 each one of us felt I got tired of that and once I wanted to sit down with Rome and just put everything on the table like yo are you you let's admit everything things that I did that I was lying to him about he admitted things to me. Well, he explained
Starting point is 00:56:41 things to me because that's the thing Rome never really told me only day. I will find out. And I'm coming to him like, yo, this is what happened. Ain't no AIA. I was not it wasn't even not our fingertips back then. So no. But I was able to give him a lot of grace
Starting point is 00:56:57 and then also like his trauma. He went through a lot when he was younger. And I realized him like, yo, I'm a lot more mature to see that. And my mother always instilled that in me. Give a in grace. Everybody comes from different walks of life. You don't know what he's gone through. And it's hard to operate in this world without a mother. You know, and then with an absent father, you know, father who you see, but he's not really there. There's no real bond. So I felt the need to, like,
Starting point is 00:57:26 be more of a friend and a confidant, you know, because I think I was like the only one that you can open up to about a lot of things that happened in childhood, a lot of things that, you know, you didn't, that you, that you didn't get as a kid after your mom's passing. So I think that's what it was. Does she use that against you? Because you talk about being vulnerable. Did she ever use that against? So that's what I was going to say next.
Starting point is 00:57:47 But the big umbrella of everything she's saying, my mother. Ms. Robbins. Okay. Because she wouldn't allow it. You have women, you have men, you have human beings itself who when, don't go their way, they got enablers around them, telling them that that's right. That's right.
Starting point is 00:58:07 When her mother, I loved her mother so much. It reminds me, I'm always going through hell and hot water. Because I was always rebellious. And then as I got a certain age, I'm already defensive because of what my dad did. So you can't tell me, but I had to take myself step back. She's not trying to hurt you wrong. And, yeah, she, she, just you wrong. Rome, you wrong.
Starting point is 00:58:29 Yeah. So it wasn't know, oh, that's my daughter. I'm going to take her side. Right. Because it was, and honestly, like, I think, because the, The co-parenting itself, it got, it was, it wasn't bad, but it got great after a while. It didn't just happen overnight. Right.
Starting point is 00:58:43 It had really started happening when I took my feelings out of it. Like I stated in the past, like when that, when that, that narrative, oh, I don't want this, this, I don't want this, I don't want this. I don't want that. I don't allow it to happen, though. Because when I decided to hurt that woman when I want to be with that woman, that opens up the door that she can have whoever the f*** she want to have around that child. Yeah. So the logical part that I went with was okay Just long as they ain't trying to hurt my kid I'm okay
Starting point is 00:59:11 And I respect my child mom enough and I trust him enough And even now all of them to not allow that to happen I want to ask you something wrong because you said What you wanted growing up was a two-parent household And a lot of people would say how can somebody with that mindset End up with five baby mothers Because it's impossible to give those kids what you wanted Growing up so why would you create
Starting point is 00:59:34 the same type of So let me elaborate and piggyback So I never really That two prime household now is new I never really cared for a two prime household I just wanted my mother Got you So mind you
Starting point is 00:59:49 I was fine with going With my dad on the weekends Going back to my mother Until that last weekend I didn't get to go back to my mom So the two prime household dynamic Come from like I said Shows and stuff like that
Starting point is 01:00:02 And reality And the stigma with that society put on you, always supposed to be like this. When two-front household produced some of the most fucked up as people in the world. But you are not a f***ed up person. You're a brother with high emotional intelligence, so clearly I know you wanted to be better than your Fox.
Starting point is 01:00:18 Correct. And like I said, I made, I made decisions. A lot of decisions I made was out of vulnerability. A lot of decisions I made was out of hurt, you know, and I'm not ashamed to say that. People are like, oh, oh, whatever, that's me. Can I ask you? and you just tell me if you agree that
Starting point is 01:00:36 I feel like you were looking for maybe your mom in these women and that's why you know because you were lost at a very young age and that nurturing and that you know all that nurturing and affection stopped at a very early age and you went from that household
Starting point is 01:00:53 that's all you knew love and positivity and just you know all that to a very different type of household you know it wasn't much affection it wasn't nurturing and I feel like that actually shaped how you look at women in relationships. Yeah, like it affected your love life in a way.
Starting point is 01:01:10 Do you agree with that? We're going to be very transparent. Yeah. I never looked for women. I never looked for my mother in women. I did look for the love and affection. Right? Why I never looked in my,
Starting point is 01:01:25 but I never looked for my mother and women because I'm put on tape, my mother wasn't a saint. My mother did. Like, you know, like. But who she wasn't? to you. Who she was to me was, she was great.
Starting point is 01:01:37 But it was like once she left, it was just that affection, that love that holding a person. Because I used to hold my mom every night. She put me out every night. I used to hold her. It really didn't affect me until I got older
Starting point is 01:01:48 and started dealing with women. Because when I'm going through school, I'm always busy. Maybe that's why I didn't affect me. I'm grades, baseball, basketball. I really had no downtime to really think about. I know my mom, in that day, probably like 13,
Starting point is 01:02:03 I'm, you know, I'm washing cars. That's what my mother love cars, so that's where I get that from. So it was like, I don't think that it, I never really say, oh, I want my mother and this woman because my mother ain't know how to cook. My mother cleaned up, but. You know, you have five baby moms, right? And, of course, Jess had relationships before she recently got married. How did you co-parent in that situation, right?
Starting point is 01:02:27 Because asking to be at his house, and he has women there, you know, or, you know, just might have a guy. Like, how did y'all... It's crazy how you just cut that man I was talking about his mom. No, because my god. No, it's going to come back, no. Okay.
Starting point is 01:02:40 So I'm asking, so how did you deal with that? Because that's what you've seen with your life. So how did I see with my son there? With her, her man? Like, how do we co-parent? Like, how did you, you know, like... So we're speaking on this. We're speaking on the husband now.
Starting point is 01:02:57 No, before the husband. Before the husband. That's totally different. My relationships and Ash would be home with me, but then he come over to you. Yeah, like how was the co-parenting relationship between you and I when that was going on? Schedule. You had girlfriends.
Starting point is 01:03:11 And I ain't going to hold you. I took my feelings out of it. A couple of men that, one, two, one and a half. You literally only liked. One and a half. I didn't like the other one, but. And you didn't like him first? No, I didn't.
Starting point is 01:03:23 But we're going, yeah, yeah, one and a half because this. Why the half? Because the half, I ain't really cared for him. But he. loved her so he loved my son so like I said it's times where Rome just take him to the house when they were them
Starting point is 01:03:40 two was you know in one household and I would drop them off no problems and none of that so that was it that was the only transaction for us that really wasn't as high a bar whatever nothing I didn't really care for him because of what he was saying to the other women who was coming to me if that makes sense
Starting point is 01:03:56 I'm confused you got to break it down okay so he wasn't a sane in this in that relationship neither Okay, I got you. And we didn't came across a couple of the same women. I ain't disclosing anything, but... Did you ever tell just that? No, you're doing it.
Starting point is 01:04:09 No, no, it's not my business. She figured out of my own. That was not your business. It's not with your son there. That's my son, but they wasn't in the household. He was doing what he did on his free time. Wow. When he was doing, how I know that, because my son was with me,
Starting point is 01:04:23 majority of the time when he's doing it on his free time. Well, a cheater would support a cheater anyway. I'm not supporting a cheater. You chose him, and that's on you. I didn't know he was cheating. Well, I didn't either. I didn't either. But it wasn't a problem.
Starting point is 01:04:40 But how did it affect you when she got married, right? Because they said it was boundaries. And the reason I asked is if I'm marrying somebody, I know y'all might have a relationship. And I know y'all might be tight. But you kind of got to find your own person to lean on because that's mine. You know what I mean? That's my wife now.
Starting point is 01:04:55 You know what I mean? But y'all was so tight for so long. How did those new boundaries affect co-parenting? and your relationship. Yeah, because somebody had to build the wall. It ain't effect nothing. Shut the fuck up, man. Guess what?
Starting point is 01:05:10 It wasn't a wall built. I'm a man. So when she leaped and I knew step by step, and it wasn't even over on, I want you to meet Chris. It's just a genuine, and it wasn't a wall. I'm a man, I always had respect.
Starting point is 01:05:29 How did I deal with, not being around or more or talking to. It's almost like you're losing your best friend. But I never thought about that. Because you're selfish if you don't want your best friend or you get a person that you love to be happy. So if this is what makes her happy, okay, I got one child mom is happy.
Starting point is 01:05:49 Well, I'm fucking Russell Wilson. Thank you. Is what you used to say? Don't go get me your future. I'm like, yo. Yeah. You wanted her to get somebody better? I want her to get her to get a Russell Wilson.
Starting point is 01:06:00 I look so forward till death do we parent two Yeah And honestly that's what it is I'm gonna say I don't want to buy you I steal my shit Nobody's gonna stay it I ain't patting it yet Okay
Starting point is 01:06:13 But you have to be parent Two, what is it part two? It'll be part two Two to you No It's two You have to be parent Part two
Starting point is 01:06:23 Let a father be a father Yeah I love it And I love you too yo Oh you more I really do The book is out right now. Make sure you get it.

Starting point is 01:09:41 And rule two, never mess with her friends either. We always say that, trust your girlfriends. I'm Anna Sinfield, and in this new season of the girlfriends... Oh my God, this is the same man. A group of women discover they've all dated the same prolific con artist. I felt like I got hit by a girl. a truck. I thought, how could this happen to me? The cops didn't seem to care.
Starting point is 01:10:04 So they take matters into their own hands. I said, oh, hell no. I vowed. I will be his last target. He's going to get what he deserves. Listen to the girlfriends. Trust me, babe. On the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Well, let's get to the latest with Lauren.
Starting point is 01:10:30 Lauren becoming a straight fan. Tell us, lady. She gets them from somebody that knows somebody. She gets the details. I'm the home girl that knows a little bit about everything. She'd be having the latest on this. She's the latest with Lauren LaRosa. Sometimes you have facts, sometimes you have details, sometimes you have a little bit of everything.
Starting point is 01:10:48 Well, it's the latest. Brought to you by Top Dog Law on the Breakfast Club. Talk to me. I think Rome is the Top Dog LaG guy. You don't think something? No, yo. You don't think the Moonlight is the Top Dog LaGaw? No, I don't.
Starting point is 01:11:00 Not the conspiracy theory. I think that's wrong, yo. All right. y'all. So get it into the latest. So Prize of the Fugis has turned himself in to begin his 14 years sentence in a federal institution in Arizona. So if you guys don't remember,
Starting point is 01:11:13 Prize was convicted of money laundering, illegal lobbying, and campaign finance violations that they tried to try to tie Obama's campaign. But his attorneys are already talking about the fact that he plans to appeal while he's in prison. A spokesperson for prize Erica Dumbaz.
Starting point is 01:11:29 She said, Eric, what? Not Erica Dumbass. I know that's not. D-U-M-A-S, dumb-ass? D-U-M-A-S. Our name is not dumb-ass. Our name is not a dumb-ass long. A spokes person for prize.
Starting point is 01:11:43 A spokesperson is speaking for a prize. She says, when he turned this up in, she says, today was a painful day for prize in his family and for everyone who believes in a fair justice system. She talks about the appeal. And then she goes on to say that, you know, that they believe that on appeal, the record will show that his rights were violated
Starting point is 01:12:01 and that the truth will come to light. Can I say that I feel like I hear this story every year? Pras turned himself into prison for 14 years. I thought he was in prison already. Because the judge set one day and then they kept giving them 30-day extensions. They extended it like two times. But he's actually done it this time. So he's in prison right now?
Starting point is 01:12:19 Yes, he turned himself in. For 14 years. Yes. Now, in other news, so the Ring Magazine and MSN right now are reporting that Floyd Mayweather has been notified by the IRS as of the end of last month, the end of March. that his U.S. passport may be revoked because of the $7.3 million in taxes that he owes for
Starting point is 01:12:39 those unpaid taxes in 2018 and 2023. Now, you guys know that this is an issue because he has fights that he's been talking about that are out of the country. Now, according to the IRS, they told him at the end of March that they plan to notify the Department of State because of those taxes. And the only way that he can kind of come up out of this and make sure
Starting point is 01:12:57 that the passport is not revoked is if he pays the debt in full, he reaches an installment agreement or settlement with the department of justice or he establishes some sort of financial hardship where he can explain to them that he's not able to pay the taxes or there's been identity theft or if he files for bankruptcy. That's just protocol. So that's protocol. So when you owe a large sum of money, the first thing they do is they put a lien on all your properties and then they pull your passport. His accountant, if he has a good accountant, I'm sure he does, well, I hope he does, a good accountant will get his passport back because he is actually going there to work to make money.
Starting point is 01:13:31 like they allow you to travel. They just want to make sure you're not a flight risking that you don't come back. But there's no signs of that with Floyd. I mean, he has a house here. He has his family here. And he's going to actually fight to make money. They're just going to tax that money as soon as he gets paid. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:43 Now, here's the thing. So you guys remember that Floyd Tyson fight was supposed to be happening. And it's still supposed to be happening according to a rep for Tyson. But it was rumored that it was going to go down April 25th. And then it just went quiet on both sides. And so a lot of the reports are pointing to the fact that maybe that was one of the reasons why. But then he also has the fight that the exhibition. that he just announced in June
Starting point is 01:14:02 and then he also still has the Pachial fight so we'll see what happened. I don't know how you end up in that type of financial situation. I don't know why the taxes weren't being paid but that's a horror story. Yeah, it is 100%. It could be a bunch of different things. It could be bad accounting. It could be that's probably usually what it is as bad
Starting point is 01:14:19 accounting. Lord have mercy. Wow. Yes. How are you known from being the money man? Like the billionaire and then now you have these issues? I know that hurts his ego. I know that hurts his pride.
Starting point is 01:14:33 Of course. It can be a bunch of things. Bad investments. I know, a host of things, but it's just happens sometimes. But, you know, the person that... It's just the image of it. Yeah. We all know is the person that gets that first check is Earths, IRS.
Starting point is 01:14:45 Yes. As soon as you get a big check, the first thing you need to do is make sure the IRS cut is put off to the side. Well, in more positive news and switching gears, Meg D'Salyan, she, you know, she's always looking for different ways that she can give back. I know people don't normally talk about that. But yesterday it was announced and I thought that this was dope that she is partnering her Pete and Thomas Foundation with Habitat for Humanity
Starting point is 01:15:07 and they're going to be going and repairing homes for senior citizens across Dallas and her hometown of Texas. So this initiative will renovate over 30 homes for senior citizens. It'll help with essential repairs like roofing, weatherproofing, ramp installations and different mobility modifications
Starting point is 01:15:23 to make it easier for people who can't afford to figure out how to change their homes and they're not as mobile to live. So, you know, shout out to make the sallion for tomorrow. Yeah, that's hope. Look to Big Meg, man. Yeah. But as we talk about that, do you got to mention yesterday, you remember the WNBA player, Lexi Brown?
Starting point is 01:15:41 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He was saying. He was allegedly cheating. Yes. She spoke to Fox yesterday, and she says that she's receiving death threats behind the fact that people think she broke up the Meg and Clay relationship. Let's take a listen.
Starting point is 01:15:53 Me and Clay are, do know each other because we both play professional basketball. I would have considered him. I'm a friend. I do not know Meg is Dahlia at all. I'm still the only person that has denied this entire situation of my involvement and claim that this is 100% false. And the fact that I'm still the only one that is defending my name, I have no idea how to process that. There is this massive outcry for protecting black women. And nobody has mentioned Lexi Brown's name in any of those conversations. I was getting threats on my life. I was getting threats on my health, my family started getting comments and threats from people.
Starting point is 01:16:33 I've had to hire security to travel with me places. So it got to a point where I just was scared for myself. Man, that's just a bunch of Med Meg fans. You know what I'm saying? Turn your phone off, Lexington. You'll be fun. I feel like people just take things too far. Because like, why you know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:16:52 Like that's just a bit too far. But that's what they do in the comments. That's what social media is for. It is that type of cesspool. It's that type of playground. Those people go online They go in your comments Just to mess with you.
Starting point is 01:17:03 They said they was going Let's go to Clay comments and jump them. Yeah. They were in there. They were doing the same thing To somebody like Lexi. That's what they do. That's what social media is.
Starting point is 01:17:13 Like you said, put your phone down. And I remember you're telling, you telling Megynette before too, Charlemagne when she was like fighting for her life in the comments. You know when that beef was going on between her and Nikki, you was just like, yo, turn your phone out of time.
Starting point is 01:17:25 You got too. You got too much. You were telling me that too all the time. I did tell Meg that. I told you, I said, give yourself a weekend. Like, put the phone down for a weekend. Yeah, yeah. Then you pick it up on Monday and then they're right there.
Starting point is 01:17:36 Shut up, Envy, because y'all ain't to tell me that in a long time because I've actually been good. I've been turning my phone off. Yeah, I'm not worried about Jess in the comments. I'm worried about just going online, making the comments. That's the problem. That's the question. Oh, my God. I want to, as we read real quick, I just want to say thank you to everybody with the Accelerate her.
Starting point is 01:17:53 Yes, let's hear about this. program yesterday me and like four other ladies received a bossy award which is like the initiation into kind of the accelerate her family but it's just been like a dope 48 hours like I've met so many people like yesterday I sat down I had a conversation with a wealth management banker then I had another conversation with like a group of like married women who were figuring out how to also balance their like careers I mean like executive level CEOs who also manage their houses like their homes like businesses and just just seeing the different ways that these black women are living and the money they're making and just the not even just about the money but the the way that they're able to like just really like be like they're showing up and they're not they're not afraid to say what they're doing and talk about it and just live fully I'm like and you got honored last night yes I got honor I said that first I received the bossy award yesterday but you glossed over it maybe like I'm sorry I have audio of the uh the track that they played I thought the talk about hello let's go listen I got if it's happening there's a good chance of
Starting point is 01:18:55 Chance Lohen Lerosa is already on it. Haled as a rising force in media and a certified media maven, Lauren Lerosa has built her voice and brand at the intersection of new culture and conversation. She called you Lowren, a certified brown girl grinding and a proud graduate of Delaware State University. From trending topics to interviewing everyone from former President Barack Obama, Lohren has become known for asking the real questions the people want answers to. Because Lowren understood something else. Your platform matters.
Starting point is 01:19:27 Yo. Lowrent. And now she's brought her distinctive. That was it. Stop playing with you. Stop playing with Loire. No, that was the intro to like when they gave us the award. And I think that maybe that was like an AI bar or something.
Starting point is 01:19:39 Yeah. I also didn't interview Barack Obama. Y'all did at the breakfast club before he even came along. But I took it though. I was like, yeah, you know. But yes, it was. I got mad videos of you from last night. Congratulations, Lorraine.
Starting point is 01:19:51 It was amazing. Thank you guys so much. I know I cried. People were sending me a video for you all last night. I was looking good. Period. So proud of you. I'm so proud of you.
Starting point is 01:20:02 I'm waiting for you to send it. You want me to post something that somebody sent to me just spying on you? You'd be threatened to post anything else. Well, but the positive. You wasn't tongue kissing nobody this time. Oh, my God. I will be posting it. And we'll also have my speech and just some experiences from the Accelerate Her on the podcast,
Starting point is 01:20:20 the latest with Lauren the Rosa and some bonus episodes. because I'm going to go hear Kamala speak today. Okay. I hear it. Yes. Well, donkey today is up next. It's the people's donkey. So call up right now if you want to give somebody the credit they deserve for being stupid. It's the breakfast club.
Starting point is 01:20:35 It's your time to nominate a donkey of your own. Remember now? That is how they choose. Call in now. 800-585-105-1. Donkey today for Friday, May 1st, is the People's Donkey. You know, we give y'all the chance to call in and give somebody the credit they deserve for being stupid. You can give somebody the biggest he has.
Starting point is 01:20:54 So good morning. Who's this? What's up? This is, uh, Bon Irene. Bon Irene. Who you want to get the biggest he heart to, Bonarine? I want to get the donkey to everybody who was saying the Michael Jackson film was great. Donkey, donkey, all of them, all of them. I haven't seen it yet. I'm going this weekend, though.
Starting point is 01:21:12 It is great. I loved it. It's not great. It's like I forgot who Michael was, y'all. Y'all was here when Michael was here? Who is Mike? That film was not great. Tell me what you mean, nobody?
Starting point is 01:21:22 What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? We forgot who Michael would. I mean, like, the film just didn't do him justice. It did not do him justice at all. I mean, I heard when, yeah, my bad, Lauren Lerosa, when she was saying that, you know, there was some trials in tribulation, that they couldn't do some stuff, which makes sense.
Starting point is 01:21:42 That's probably why the movie was whack. They had to, you know, get rid of a lot of stuff. But I feel like it was a montage of, like, a music video, or someone reenacting his music video. That's what it felt like. It was very superficial. Well, I'm going to go this weekend. I haven't seen it yet.
Starting point is 01:21:59 I'm going to go this weekend, though. But, I mean, yo, everybody that I know that has seen the movie, they thoroughly enjoyed it. But, I mean, I think it is hard to capture a larger than life character like that on screen. I don't think it was a montage. I think it showed his life to a certain aspect. It showed to the 1988. It showed him as a kid growing up how his father used to beat him. That had nothing to do with videos.
Starting point is 01:22:17 It also showed why he loved animals and why he moved the way that he moved, the moment where he stood up to his dad. It did show a lot of his performances and a lot of his music, how he created the beat it, how he created and got the ideas for some of the songs. So I wouldn't, saying it's whack and trash, that's a stretch. Isn't that how he invented the moonwalk? He stood up to his dad and then Joe really got buck and said, I'll beat your ass. And then he moonwalk behind, is that, that's not true?
Starting point is 01:22:40 No, that is not true. Are you serious? He was about to get beaten and just started sliding across the floor. That's what somebody told me. I don't know. I didn't see the movie out. I'm going this weekend. That is not true.
Starting point is 01:22:50 That man, Michael was really a clown, yo. He played too much. What is you doing? My bad, dad. You know, Homer Simpson was Moonwalking, too, when he walked back into them bushes. You remember? Shut up, man. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:23:01 Who's this? This is Catherine. Hey, Catherine. Who you want to get the biggest he hard to? I want to give the biggest donkey to you, Charlemagne. Oh, Lord. What I do? Yesterday, when the lady called about Zepbound, you really dogged her out, and, you know,
Starting point is 01:23:16 you asked her, you know, about her, well, one of you guys asked her about her height and her weight, and you always talk about mental health and all of that. And this lady could have been, she could have gone through trauma when she was younger. She could have been pleased when she was younger about her weight. And she called to talk about not getting the help that she needed from her insurance company, Charlemagne. And you really go in on people. I don't know if you guys have people call in and, you know, make crank calls so you guys can't dog them out. But Charlemagne, come on.
Starting point is 01:23:47 I don't think she had a problem with it. We were going back. It wasn't even a... I think she had a problem with it because she didn't want to get embarrassed on the phone. But when she got off that phone call, you don't know what she could have went through, Charlemagne.
Starting point is 01:24:00 We talked to the people before, you know, we go live with them, man. You didn't talk to me before you were live. Oh, you might not have been worth talking to, and I'm just fling. I just said that because you say I'll be talking people out. That's all. Okay.
Starting point is 01:24:13 You want me to go all in on you? Yes, ma'am. Yes, please. Okay. Look, you talk about people saying acts or ask, you write books and you say library. I do. Library has an R in it. Okay, you're
Starting point is 01:24:26 correct. Come on, girl, you got to get a new and that. What's up? Girl, you haven't seen the Michael movie, but the pastor just came on this morning and talked about change and being forced to change. And so, when you go to see the Michael movie, I think you need to get your little
Starting point is 01:24:45 step stool and when you go to the bathroom in the morning, get up on it, and look in the mirror and make that change. Oh, you're right, demand the mirror. I liked that one. That was a good one. It was a little stumbling in the beginning, but I like it. But see what, but see the thing, none of this bought, none of this. Charlemagne, look.
Starting point is 01:25:01 She got a third one. But none of this one. But none of this is a very morning show. And I have gone all this time and never called in because I love listening to just Mimi, envy. I love it. You, I, not so much. You're a semi-celebrity, you know, you just go all in
Starting point is 01:25:20 people and it's difficult for me sometimes to listen because of you. I can tolerate it but I don't like it. And I do have a choice not to listen but I still listen anyway and support because I love the show. Thank you. You need to make that change Charlemagne. Well listen, none of this
Starting point is 01:25:38 offends me because it's true. You said I'm short okay. You said ugly? You said what else you said? What else you said? Tell me what else you said about me? You said you say Lydbury? I mean I would order one of your books Just to read it for the content to see if there's typos and not really for the content because I'm not really interested in it. But I love to read it. Damn.
Starting point is 01:25:58 You know. But this is my thing. None of this offending him because it's true. Just like if somebody called a pen tells us that they're on a weight loss medication and then we ask them they heightened weight and they tell us that's true. True. I mean, why would you do that? Why aren't you all in on Blue Cross Blue Shield? I work in corrections and Blue Cross Blue Shield just made a huge change that affected a lot of people's lives.
Starting point is 01:26:20 So you ought to be a little more careful and, you know, temper all of that. But the gist of the phone call yesterday was literally about us dog in Blue Cross Blue Shield, but your ears decided to focus on just the aspect of the call you didn't like it. No, it wasn't. It wasn't for that. You, you on the butt end of the phone call said, oh, Blue Cross Blue Shield. No. You were all in on what's your height, what's your weight.
Starting point is 01:26:45 Oh, and Indy, you said, oh, there is a gym. And yes, there is a gym. people need help on the beginning part of that to temper crazy. So why are you not mad at envy? You ain't got no, you don't got no criticism for any? Because she love us. This is Donkey today, sir. I have criticism for you because
Starting point is 01:27:02 you, if it was just a sprinkle here and they're like envy, you know, that would be, I could tolerate that. But you are, you even go in all in on your employees and that might be y'all's relationship and y'all's yours. But you little man, you got a problem. You're right. Thank you,
Starting point is 01:27:18 nothing you said is wrong. syndrome. Nothing you said is wrong and I'm not offended. I will say this though. Yes, I think a lot of people do use O-ZMPIC and that a Z-pound as an alternative to actually go into the gym. I think for a lot of people, it is an easy way out. A lot of people will not go to the gym and because that shot is available, they'll take that shot even when they don't necessarily need to lose that much of weight. So I do feel like those shots for a lot of people. Not everybody is a cop-out and Charlemagne doesn't know what he's talking about. Yes, we do screen the calls. Today you got through without us screening because our producer is late
Starting point is 01:27:53 And another one woke up late So that's the reason why But yes, we do screen the calls and speak to the people before You just got through because two producers weren't here this morning And I also would like to say that yesterday We actually told the woman she wasn't fat When she told us her height in her way I just want to throw that out there as well
Starting point is 01:28:06 We actually told her she was not fat She was just trying to get snatched That's right That was the people's donkey We do that every Friday You can call in and give somebody the credit they deserve For being stupid even if it's me Okay
Starting point is 01:28:18 So 1-800-5-150-105-1, remember that for next Friday. And you got to watch Charlemagne, Jess, because when the lady says stuff about me, he goes, why you ain't going to go in it on Envy? I know. How are you going to be in it? Because she said that an envy going to say that that girl need to go to the gym. So I'm just trying to figure out why you ain't got no smoke for envy then. Because you miss the mental health, she said.
Starting point is 01:28:38 And jokes are a part of having healthy mental health. That's true. Okay, the people that call into this show, the same way that woman could give it to me, right? I can dish it, I can take it. That's the beauty of the breakfast club. That's the relationship we have with our listeners, okay? You can take it. That's right.
Starting point is 01:28:56 All right. We clown each other in the screen. You got to see it. You know how many people walk with me at the Black Effect Festival with jokes? Me too. You see what I'm saying? I'm not Dominican, by the way. Everybody out there's Black Effect by you are.
Starting point is 01:29:05 Envi, well, you're here. You're Dominican? No, I'm not Dominican, by the way. Yes. You think it hurts me to hear. Man, I thought you were six feet tall. You sound six feet tall on the radio. I'm short.
Starting point is 01:29:14 I don't care. It's all right. When we come back, Rizza will be joining us. He has a new movie called A Spoon of Chocolate. We'll talk to him about it when we come back so don't go anywhere. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy.
Starting point is 01:29:26 Just hilarious. Shulamine the guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We got a special guest in the building. Yes, indeed. He has a new movie that comes out this Friday. Ladies and gentlemen, Rizza. In the building.
Starting point is 01:29:37 The name of the movie is One Spoon of Chocolate. Man, one spoon of chocolate. This is my personal opinion. Instant classic. Instant classic. I already got it. is one of the best movies I've ever seen. And to me, for what I like
Starting point is 01:29:52 and the type of movies I like, it's one of my all-time personal favorites. I watched it twice yesterday. Oh, man. Thank you. Literally. Posting on Instagram yelling in all caps. Yeah, I'm not. They're posted another post like, all, y'all, I calm down now. Oh, man. I'm 62 minutes in.
Starting point is 01:30:07 Oh, why? Why? I'm 62 minutes in. And I would just say I'm highly impressed. You know, it's funny. I'm watching it, and I'm watching the characters play out, right? And I'm talking to Charlemagne because, you know, he got a loud mouth because he's seen it, right? So I'm watching it.
Starting point is 01:30:19 And he's telling me, Yo, Parrish, I'm like, that's Michael Jackson's daughter as one of the stars in the movie. But you don't look at her as Paris Jackson. You just look at her as a good actress. And I was highly impressed, brother. Yeah, she definitely did a thing.
Starting point is 01:30:33 Out of all the actors that's in the film, she don't need to be there, right? Most people that do acting or music, whatever, they do it for, they need a bag, or they do it for popularity. She's already one of the most popular persons in the world. Living on,
Starting point is 01:30:49 sitting on a, you know, a bag of, of, of, of, of, of,
Starting point is 01:30:52 of, of, of, of, of, she came in there, she, she came as an artist. And she got up every morning, no, six in the morning, got in that makeup chair,
Starting point is 01:31:02 came on set, um, and actually had something that I noticed, by you know, this actor, different actresses or actors got a special quality, like Sharmique Moore, he's a sponge.
Starting point is 01:31:11 Absolutely. But she's like, a motor memory. Like, you know what I mean? Like, I've seen that in Lucy Lou. I've seen that in Ouma Thurman, like, people that that could do it 20 times exactly the same way because they already did it in their minds.
Starting point is 01:31:24 So she definitely has a, she wants to do this. She can go as far as she wants. Jackson must want us in the theaters. Because, you know, last week his movie came out, and then this week, his daughter's daughter, yeah. Which I think in the, culturally, it's a good one-two punch in all reality. One is very, you know, the Jackson movies uplift and bring us our childhood, and bring children into that world, right?
Starting point is 01:31:50 And then one spoon is like for the adults to go, wait a minute. It's very uplifting to me. I'm not a black boy. I didn't get to that, I'm still mad. I'm still mad right now. I didn't get to that point. I think you do a range of emotions, but that last 30 minutes, you're like, I don't tell you, I'm mad now.
Starting point is 01:32:04 I'm still mad. So let's talk about it. For people that haven't seen it, or explain what a spoon of chocolate is. Well, at the end of the day, the title itself says a lot, right? Because one spoon of chocolate could change the whole glass of milk, you know what I mean? And sometimes you got to put that in there. Sometimes you got to be like, yo, change the chemistry, change your outcome. As an artist, for me, I put a spoonful of different things into this film, like, even from different genres.
Starting point is 01:32:31 You watch it one moment, you're feeling like angry. Next moment you feel like, wait, is this a fucking romantic comedy going on? Like, because there's a vibe of that. Then, of course, there's the action satisfaction. And then to be quite honest, bro, and since he saw that he could vouch for this, there's, you guys, you scared for a moment in that, absolutely. Like, yo, you're like, hold on, bro, what's going to happen? You, you grabbing your seat like, yo, is that going to happen? And so, I was ready to be mad at you. I'm like, yo, don't, don't let that happen right. No. And then something happened, and I'm like, oh, no, he did it. And I'm like, yes. I try not to give it away, man. I was a man. I was very interested to see how you guys would have to have. the conversation because you're so excited about it without giving the movie away. Well, you know what?
Starting point is 01:33:20 I learned something about about filmmaking. It took me, that's my fourth film. So, you know, and I feel proud of all my work. But I don't think I ever understood the rubber band effect. So the rubber band effect is you pull that mother fuck right to it's about to pop, then you let it go. Just keep doing that. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:33:41 So now that I understand that, that's the energy you're feeling when you're watching this film you're like oh okay okay let me chill then you know you're looking at the other people in the audience it's definitely an audience film so you saw it by yourself right i mean i watched it on the plane twice and my wife kept tapping me because i was yo and then people looking at you on the plane and then i watched it again at home when i got home last night so when you so when you see it with the audience it's even it's like it's even another thing because now you feel the room you know i I mean like when i first saw the new york city you know i'm new yorkers are we like yo was yelling at the that son
Starting point is 01:34:16 you know do this do that but then in LA it seemed like everybody was nervous yo you know what I mean then in San Francisco I did a Q&A afterwards it was intellectual
Starting point is 01:34:27 you know what I mean everybody took it intellectually but in Chicago at the Beyond Fest cheering standing ovation so it gives you it has the ability
Starting point is 01:34:36 to shake you in different directions now I know you're EP and director did you write the movie as well yeah yeah now break down your mind frame with writing through that Are these past experiences, of course, that's exaggerated a lot,
Starting point is 01:34:49 but express the mind frame. Definitely. I mean, first of all, I started writing it in 2011. Somebody told me that. Wow. Yeah. That's what 13 years? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:57 Wow. 14 years ago. And I tried to, but I got stuck, well, like writers block. Like, nothing would come out. Like, I just page 40, nothing. Five years later, nothing. Really? But then when we was doing the New York State of Mind tour,
Starting point is 01:35:10 I'm on the back of the tour bus, me and my wife just, you know, you got the star coach, but they're still bouncing. But I'm back there on my computer, and it just came out like water. Every city, every truck stop. Like, I get out to the truck stop. Sometimes, you know, you get off the bus and you might go in there, whatever. And I get back on the bus, like, and all that just came out. So in far as the mindset of it, you know, it's like, it's really taken, you know, we from New York, right?
Starting point is 01:35:37 So I know if you, we all close to the same age. Do you remember going to the first white castles in Bay Ridge, bro? Yeah, my mom was in Queens Village, but I know what you mean. Yeah, bro, you can't. So if you live on Staten Island, you want to go to White Castle, you had to go across the Valzano, right? Vincent House Bay Ridge, bro. And you'll do it for a White Castle Burger back in those days. Nah, bro.
Starting point is 01:35:59 Homies was lined up, you know what I mean? You know, I mean, me and dirty got chased out of that White Castle. You know what I mean? I don't know if, you know, Lefis Boulevard or that side of, you know, back that side of Queens, back in those days. Or on Staten Island, there was a place called. Rosebank. You know, and, you know,
Starting point is 01:36:17 it's like, once you go on to that bridge, you're in Rosebank, but it's set on the bridge. You know what I mean? Don't come in here, bro. And you go,
Starting point is 01:36:25 and you go, though, because, you know, AMP was there. So you might go to pack bags and try to get your hustle on. And yeah,
Starting point is 01:36:30 homies, homies with a pickup truck with bats is sending you up out of there. So, so that's just a childhood thing that happened in, and in New York City,
Starting point is 01:36:40 you know, reality. The crazy thing is even with Staten Island, and two Woutain came out That's what we imagine Staten Island was. Nothing but white boys and bats and you better not go over there.
Starting point is 01:36:48 Parts of Brooklyn were like that. You better not go. And even in Queens where John Gotti and them live. Like there were areas where you're just like, you're not going on that side of town because you're going to get fucked up. Exactly. And then it evolved. Right?
Starting point is 01:36:59 Some of those, like I go to Rose, it's called Rosebank. I go to Rosebank now, bro. Drinks is on the house and partying in the pubs and shit. But that evolution may have happened in New York City. It may have happened, you know, And Los Angeles, it may happen in Philadelphia. But there's places in the country where it has not happened yet. There's places in our country where people are stuck in the past.
Starting point is 01:37:23 It's almost like, and I'm going to say this without trying to be political, I'm going to say you got the Obama generation, you know what I mean, and then you got the opposite generation. The movie feels very personal. What pain were you channeling when you wrote this? Like, be honest, Shaliman, I don't think I was channeling my people. I think I was channeling pain that people are feeling. Like, like I said, it came out like, like, too, too watery.
Starting point is 01:37:52 Like, like, all praises do, you know, I've been blessed. Yeah. You know, we all been blessed. You know, you're waking up, you know, your problems are, our problems are small. But people with problems ain't small. Yeah. And people's problems, it's probably, you know, so much fear, so much different things in their hearts. And so much miscommunication, you know,
Starting point is 01:38:13 My composer, Tyler Bates, who does big Hollywood movies like John Wick and Garden of the Galaxy, et cetera. And it's the producer, Marilyn Manson. I needed somebody to help me with the music. And so my buddy, Mark Abraham, was like, I got a friend who can help. I didn't know Tyler.
Starting point is 01:38:33 And so he called Tyler and Tyler watched the film. And then he came and said, yo, I'm going to help you with this, bro. Like, because I couldn't afford this guy. So I'm going to help you. because I want people to see this. He said, the character is in there
Starting point is 01:38:48 that's on the villain side, him as a white man, basically, hoping that none of those qualities exist in him or his peers. Right? So it's the same way like in Django, when you saw Sam Jackson
Starting point is 01:39:04 played what they call the... I can say, I don't even... Actually, I don't even say that much. Two or three times a day. I got it. I don't contain my With a cool role Samuel Jackson was the cool role
Starting point is 01:39:17 That was the Uncle Lucas Yeah yeah yeah Yeah He played the Uncle Tom joint right But when he played it You didn't want none of that to be in you In fact Minister Farrakhan once said I've seen him get interviewed
Starting point is 01:39:29 About Django And it was like Minister Farrakhan Spike Lee is boycott in Django What do you think You know Minister Fire Khan I'm paraphrasing
Starting point is 01:39:39 He said Did he see it He said no he won't see it So what do you think about that what do you think about the movie in minister mr. farrakhan said well i haven't seen it you know so i can't speak on it but the brother spike who's a very intelligent brother if he wants to boycott it that's his right about two weeks later they interviewed him again he said minister farrakhan i don't have you seen jingo what do you think it was a marvelous movie
Starting point is 01:39:59 he said the way they played it the the depiction leonado sam james said sam jackson played the uncle tom so well that if there was any time in you you felt that you felt that you uncomfortable. That to me is the characters of Jimmy in the sheriff in our movie. If anybody is watching this and they go, that's me, hopefully something shakes them up a little bit
Starting point is 01:40:25 and they get some passion out of them and let go of that. What does One Spoon of Chocolate teach people about life in 2006? What do you hope it teaches people? Well, the biggest thing, like I said, is preparation, y'all. You got to, you know, and also be prepared
Starting point is 01:40:39 or accept the chance of change. you know the title came in 2011 and I was writing a dart and I don't know if this dart ever came out I keep saying that I can't remember if I said it on a song or not but it was like you want a spoonful of dope or a spoonful of hope you know what I mean
Starting point is 01:40:57 and so it's like okay that led to a spoonful of chocolate because one spoon of chocolate could change the whole glass of milk and can I say something man Avant has never steered me wrong I don't care if it's Clarence I don't care if it's Nicole Alex was on me about watching this movie, bro.
Starting point is 01:41:14 Yeah, the brother Alex Avon and the whole CAA team, but Alex Avon, he saw it early, like, even before it was finished, and he was like, yo, I want to help you spread the world on this, you know what I mean? So I know he shouted you out to watch it. So I just want to say thank you, Alex, you know what I mean? Continue to be that spirit that helps the culture and keep rocking the world, yo. It's dope. Congratulations on being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Starting point is 01:42:22 And I don't want to end on the sad. No, we also got to say rest in peace, too, the power. So, you know, I know brother, family member, one of the founding father. We always say that trust your girlfriends. I'm Anna Sinfield, and in this new season of the girlfriends... Oh my God, this is the same man. A group of women discover they've all dated the same prolific con artist.
Starting point is 01:46:02 I felt like I got hit by a truck. I thought, how could this happen to me? The cops didn't seem to care. So they take matters into the... their own hands. Starting point is 01:47:13 Huh? You high this morning? No, I'm tired. I was DJing last night. She was a little scared. Every Thursday, St. Lounge, pull up on me if you're in. Why do you say scared?
Starting point is 01:47:21 He was frightened. You look at the side of the side. You look frightened. You look frightened. Guys, guys. And then the hair was standing up a little bit too. I'm a working woman. Yes, thank you.
Starting point is 01:47:31 Okay. All right, let's get into these songs. I want to start with Ebony Riley. I don't know if you guys are familiar with her, but really dope R&B artist. Oh, you are type then? Yeah. She's gorgeous, by the way, but also very talented.
Starting point is 01:47:42 This record is called Too Grum. I like that. I like that. I like that. She's fire. I want to Google with her when you said she's fine. I'm like, you're fine. She got the right complexion.
Starting point is 01:47:52 She got the right complexion. You know that. Listen, you know, I have, I like melanin. Yes, sir. She got that. She got it. Lute to Ebony. You got the right first name too. Yes, absolutely.
Starting point is 01:48:03 Absolutely talented, though. Ebony. I messed with her, yeah. She got a whole project? Uh-huh. And she's from Detroit. Oh, I didn't know that. I feel like we haven't had our R&V artist from Detroit.
Starting point is 01:48:13 So I think that's pretty cool too. Yeah, no, I didn't even know that. Yes. So make sure you guys tap in with Ebony Riley now. Also, um, Isaiah Rashad did drop his project today, too. I'm not going to play a song, but it's out there. Make sure you guys tune in.
Starting point is 01:48:25 Next, I'm going to get with this Vince Staples record. This is the first single off of his project that's dropped in June 5th. It's called Blackberry Mermalate. Mommelate? Mommelate. I like that. I love the message. I love it.
Starting point is 01:48:37 I love it. All y'all was calm. Y'all was so calm. I love it. I was just trying to listen to it because Vince always got a message. I love it. As soon as Sholeme and heard Cracker, he still smiled. I heard Cracker.
Starting point is 01:48:47 It doesn't matter if the rest of the song was trash. As soon as he had Cracker. He's loving. I heard Krakow 15 times in 35 seconds. I love it. I love it. I love it. I think it's fantastic.
Starting point is 01:48:55 It is amazing. It's incredible. Shut up. You need to be in rotation all over the world. Let's talk right now. All right. Salute to Vince.
Starting point is 01:49:02 Yeah, salute to Vince. Album drops June 5th. We're definitely looking forward to that. Now, y'all know I've been in Atlanta a lot now. And this is the hardest record in the A right now. It's called Smackor Diet and it's by Hard Nart. I think that's one I got to see in the club.
Starting point is 01:49:15 Okay. And you know what? The clean version really don't help it either. No, not, no. Because I'm sure you've seen that record outside already. Yes. Yeah, I was going to say it sounds like something that I've heard before. It sounds like something my son listened to.
Starting point is 01:49:24 Yeah, I got to see it outside. I got to time for one more. Okay. Yay, nay. Okay, real quick, his name is R.J. the weirdo. He's actually assigned to Tide Dollar Sign. You know, he just came with Leon Thomas. Now, he got another one, R.J. the Weirdo.
Starting point is 01:49:37 And this song is called. I got to Google him because if you're calling yourself a weirdo in this era, you really must be a weirdo. And the song title don't help, but it's called Catch a Body. All right, yeah. Yeah. Tough. But salute the Tide Dollar sign. Well, you know,
Starting point is 01:49:49 tied two for two. Wait, I think he signed the Tide Dollar's honest, right? But they're definitely affiliated. Like, he's on the project. Ties all over his page. Okay, yeah. And he's all over like the cadence of the music, too. Like you kind of hear that DNA.

And also salute to Big Rohn for joining us this morning. Listen, there would be no tell death to be parent. It wasn't for wrong. Whoa. It's right as Joe.
Starting point is 01:52:17 Don't like just cancel me out. If it wasn't for me in Rome, there would not be until death, do we parent? That is true. And you know, like I said, I was saying during the interview, man, I was always trying to figure out,
Starting point is 01:52:29 I didn't have the language for the energy between Rome and Jess, but I see it now. Like Rome has a very, very deep mother wound. And Jess has done her best to help heal that wound. Correct. You know, not saying that she's playing the role
Starting point is 01:52:47 his mother in any way, shape of form. But you could just tell, as he said in the interview, there's been people who's tried to put salt in that mother wound, but Jess has been the person to try to heal it. And I think that brings some type of comfort. You know? And you do it effortlessly, Jeff. It don't
Starting point is 01:53:03 seem like it's draining for you. It's not forceful. No, she does it because she cares. Absolutely. Definitely. So pick up Jess's book if you're out and about this weekend until death do we parent. It's in stores. It's online. It's a great read. And shout out to everybody that came out to the book. signing last night in Dumbo powerhouse bookstores yo what I realized last night is yo a lot of people
Starting point is 01:53:24 are hurt like it's so many moms and dads going through things right and yo if if my book can be a beacon of light or if me and Rome can be a beacon of light for people like you know that's you got to think about the impact that that gives because the hardest thing to do is to co-parent with somebody that you despise or you you know who don't see you and don't see all the hard work you putting in to do it by yourself. And that's what I was getting a lot. So I appreciate everybody who came out. I appreciate everybody who's bought the book so far.
Starting point is 01:53:55 It's a great piece of literature. Till Deaf, do we parent. It's in bookstores online. Get it, get it, get it. That's right. Do a review. Don't just get it because you support me and you. You're a fan of me.
Starting point is 01:54:06 Get it actually read it. And then do your own review. Tell me how it impacted you. Yeah, one of the reviews I've been saying is, Matt, he was more Rome to write a book now. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And he was walking around power bookstores. that's like, yeah, I'm gonna do that.
Starting point is 01:54:19 I'm working on Charlemagne already gave me the green light. I'm like, yo, don't yell at out. Like, stop yelling that out, yo. We're working on my book right now. No, y'all not. I can't give the green light. Just got to get a green light. If just say he can write one, then I try to make it happen.
Starting point is 01:54:37 But I do see that in his future. He wants to tell his story, you know, from his perspective. And I want him to do that. Right. Yeah. Morning, everybody is DJ Envi. Just hilarious and Charlemagne the Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. I know we've been talking a lot about movies. And I mean, they've had screeners and stuff for it, but I ain't spoke to none of the people. people that I know to go see it so I can talk to them about it. Yeah, we're going to chop it up on our idea.
Starting point is 01:56:28 We got to say this weekend. But the positive note is this. The truth will set you free, but not until it is finished with you. What does that mean? Truth is not just a polite realization. It is a force that dismantles every illusion and misconception that you have about yourself. When I say finished with you, that aspect implies that truth works on you. And it changes your perspective and overcomes your resistance to it.
Starting point is 01:56:53 So stop resistance. the truth, man. It'll set you free, but not until it's finished with you. Have a great weekend. Breakfast club, bitches.
