Peace to the planet.
It's Friday.
Hey, good morning.
How y'all feel out there?
I feel blessed black and highly favored.
Happy to be here.
Another day to serve our beautiful listeners.
What an incredible weekend, man.
First of all is Valentine's weekend.
Drop on the clues bumps for all the lovers out there.
I want to tell every man out there, you don't have to wish another man happy Valentine's Day.
Okay, I walked in the building this morning, and the African guy at the front desk was like, happy Valentine's Day.
Did he?
Oh, it was crazy.
I didn't even know what to say.
say back. That's a flirt. I didn't even know what to say back.
I never had that happen to me. I've never had that happen. He's flirting with you.
But he's also not from here, so he doesn't know any better.
No, he probably listens to you to on the radio and he's flirting with you. Okay, shut up.
And first, second of all, Jill Scott's album is out today. Drop on a clues, bombs.
But to whom it may concern, okay? I rode in here
this morning listening to Jill Scott's new album and she will be joining us today. You heard me?
Absolutely. And, you know, I'm a dance dad. So my daughters are actually dancing today.
in Boston. So I'm in Boston this morning.
They get on stage in a little bit, so I'm excited about that.
So it's a lot going on this weekend. I'm happy.
It is definitely a lot going on today.
Today is Jess O'Laris's born day.
She's late.
Shock, she's coming in at all.
She wasn't here yesterday.
No, she wasn't here yesterday.
She should have been late yesterday and not coming in the day.
This is a birthday.
It made more sense, yeah.
That would have made way more sense.
She said she was sick yesterday.
So, yeah, she should have thugged it out yesterday and took off today.
That would have made more sense.
Yes, but it's Jess.
So you just, it's Jess.
You just let Jess do Jess sometimes.
Do we have some Jill Scott to start the show?
It don't even have to be new Jill Scott.
You want to Jill Scott?
I was going to do happy birthday to Jess.
Uncle Luke?
She's not even him.
She can listen in the way in.
You don't even know if she's listening.
You're right.
Exactly.
You're right.
She brought me a birthday's home when she gets here.
What do we got in there from Jill Scott?
What we got?
Living my best life like it's golden.
What's the name of that?
We got pressure the way.
Oh.
What else?
What else?
Yeah, I'm going to go out.
Getting in the way, Golden.
Let's start.
off with Golden. We get into the new stuff when she gets here. She'll be here next hour. Let's start off
with Golden. We don't got blessed in there, right? Bless now that's not in there? Oh,
there you go. Now we're talking. Start off with Blessed. Jill Scott blessed. That's how we're going
to start the show. God damn. You're so happy. You're so excited. Look at you. Jill Scott makes
me happy. Unlike you. Happy Valentine's Day, Shaliman. It's the breakfast club.
Good morning. The front page news is next. Morning. How you feel? How you feel?
How you feeling? Shalameenamee. Shalomeen the guy. We are the breakfast club.
Tell me how you feeling in me. Blessed, beige and highly favored. I'm blessed black and
highly favored. Okay, I don't care what's going on in your life this morning.
If you woke up, God gave you another opportunity. You are blessed. You hear me?
You hear me? I'm black. I'm black. You're black. Let's get some front page news.
Good morning, Mimi.
Good morning, Mee, Shalumane. How y'all doing this morning?
Good morning. Good morning. Okay, so we start this morning with a possible shutdown of the
Department of Homeland Security lawmakers. They are leaving Washington without a funding deal,
putting DHS on track for a partial.
shutdown tomorrow. Now the fight it centers on immigration enforcement. This comes after two U.S.
citizens, they were shot and killed by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis. And Democrats,
they are demanding changes to how ICE operates. They want immigration agents to wear body cameras,
require judicial warrants, and give local officials more authority to investigate federal actions
made by those immigration authorities. Now, Republicans, they offered two proposals this week. One
would have funded the DHS through September without any.
of those policy changes and the second it was another short-term two-week extension to allow more time
for negotiations and senate democrats they blocked both saying they will not approve funding unless
immigration enforcement policies are addressed let's quickly listen to uh hakeem jeffreys
funding for ice and the department of homeland security should not move forward in the absence
of dramatic changes that are bold meaningful and transformational period full stop that's the
the House Democratic caucus position, and that's the Senate Democratic caucus position.
Yeah, so that's the position that both the House and the Senate Democrats have taken.
Meanwhile, in Minnesota, federal immigration officials say a major enforcement operation is winding down.
Borders are Tom Holman. He announced yesterday that Operation Metro Surge,
it is coming to an end with federal immigration officers set to begin pulling out as early as next week.
So, Holman says the decision, though, it was based on two factors.
the number of arrests made during the operation and what he describes as a sharp drop in confrontations between officers and protests.
Now, at its peak, the state had roughly 3,500 federal officers deployed there, about 150 from when it first began.
And Minnesota leaders, they quickly responded.
Let's listen to Governor Tim Walts.
I guess they'll go wherever they're going to go.
But the fact of the matter is, they left us with deep damage, generational trauma.
They left us with economic ruin in some cases.
They left us with many unanswered questions.
Where are our children?
Where and what is the process of the investigations
into those that were responsible for the deaths of Renee and Alex?
So while the federal government may move on to whatever next thing they want to do,
the state of Minnesota and our administration is unwaveringly focused on the recovery of
what they did.
Yeah, very, very moving right there.
You know what I wanted to meet me when these politicians have these funding fights and they, I wonder, do they go in representing themselves or do they go in representing the people?
And what I mean by that is there are a lot of people who want immigration enforcement policies.
I think I saw a poll yesterday that said 60% of Americans disapprove of how Trump is handling immigration.
Yeah, well, they do want, you know, common sense federal immigration policies.
They just don't want it the way we've been getting it, right?
Like treating people as decent in human beings is number one on everyone's list, according to every poll.
But we've been seeing the opposite of that.
And as all this has been unfolding Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, he was testifying on Capitol Hill about the same operation Metro Surge.
Now, one of the most intense moments from that hearing came when Senator Josh Hawley accused Ellison of being complicit in a fraud scheme involving millions of dollars in federal funds meant for Minnesota's social service programs.
Ellison, of course, he denies those allegations.
Let's listen to part of that exchange.
You know, the other thing is whistleblowers came to you as early as 2019.
Let's look.
As early as 2019, don't talk over me.
No, no, you're talking over me.
It's my hearing, pal.
As early as 2019, don't call me, palers came.
Well, I should call you a prisoner because you ought to be in jail.
Well, see what you can do.
In 2000, they did not come to my office.
This is a false statement.
It's not the sequence of events.
It's untrue.
And sir, you should resign.
And sir, you should resign.
I was thinking the same thing about you.
It should resign.
I mean, two things can be true.
We do want to know what happened with the child care fraud in Minnesota.
Well, so with the child care fraud in Minnesota, of course, those billions of dollars, you know, they were used.
People bought personal items.
It was a whole ring, right?
So they acknowledged that that did happen.
But because I asked Attorney General last week about that, and if you listen to the interview,
which is on YouTube right now, the first.
Front News YouTube page, front page new YouTube page, but he said that the Trump administration,
they have used this fraud scheme to repeatedly justify their operations for Metro Surge.
It's part of their talking points because the state of Minnesota says that the fraud did
happen, but they were already investigating it.
They were already prosecuting people.
They were already working to recover those funds.
But Holly suggesting that Allison was complicit in that scheme is a whole,
new allegation, one that he flatly denied
during that hearing
there, which of course, as you just heard, got
really loud and really contentious.
Yeah, it feels like they always, everybody wants to
deflect. Nobody wants to talk about the actual matter
at hand. Right, which is
the two lives that were lost, the total
of immigration officers that were
in the state, the damage that has been done.
Where does the investigation stand
with the two people who were killed? And what
happens now? You know what I mean? Where are the
children? Where are the people who were deported?
There are so many more questions. So
still going back into where that fraud
or what happened to that money,
when Minnesota officials were already investigating,
it seems like a theatrical
political theatrics.
That's right. And make sure y'all go to
Breakfast Club YouTube page. Mimi Brown
was boots on the ground in Minnesota
talking to Attorney General Keith
Ellison and seeing what was going on
front row in Minnesota.
So go on Breakfast Club YouTube page and check that out.
Absolutely. Thank you.
All right, y'all. Well, coming up at 7,
as you guys mentioned earlier, it is Valentine's Day.
so millions of flowers are expected to be delivered today,
but why experts say double-checking those details, those addresses,
they matter. We'll talk about it.
Man, I remember there used to be some really lonely women up here
who used to send flowers and balloons and stuff to themselves,
but I don't think they're going to be doing that this year
because, you know, one of them is engaged now,
and another one, is she married?
Oh, yeah, well, no.
And then another one got a boo, right?
Right.
Allegedly.
But there's a bunch of other women that work up here.
Yeah, but they're not.
They're not as silly as those three I just named,
so I don't think that they would stoop so lotus
and send any gifts to themselves today.
I don't think so.
I don't think Sim would do that.
I ain't say, I'm sorry.
Damn, get it off your chest.

Hi, this is Luanda.
Hey, Luanda.
Oh, my God, I'm so shocked you in the Bufix Club.
How are you?
Good morning.
I'm doing fine.
Good morning.
Good morning, Luanda.
Well, I wanted to call in because I was concerned about how the black community
is going to handle the Epstein file.
Talk to me.
Well, all communities, actually.
Well, I know right now we're making an effort not to really get involved in any of the protest for our safety and just to not escalate things.
But I'm concerned that we kind of hit a point in this whole thing where we also have to decide to be on the right side of history.
When protests come up regarding the X-E files and these people going to jail for the heinous acts that they did.
Mainly because, of course, this is against women and children.
I'm not sure how many black people that were involved,
but I definitely know there were many of minorities involved.
And also their children.
Yeah, I don't think people minding their business when they come to the Epstein files.
I want to see every single one in them pedophiles burn.
I don't give a damn what side of the aisle they on.
I don't care, you know, what position of power they in.
They all need to burn if you ask me.
What race they are, it don't matter.
Yeah, I don't think nobody minding their business when they come to the FDFiles, man.
Well, that's all I wanted to get off my chest.
I just want to make sure that when the protests come out,
that we're off getting out there to protect children.
Absolutely.
All right.
Thank you, Mama.
Hello, who's this?
Yeah, how you doing?
This is Brad.
Hey, Brad.
What I?
Get it off your chest.
Good morning.
Just a lariat.
Shout up being a guy, D.D.A.
Peace.
We want to give a, I just want to give a shout out.
to my brother, man.
I want everybody to pray for him.
His wife passed on Monday,
and he's bearing her on the Valentine's Day.
Oh, my God.
Yeah, she was going through an illness,
and she went to do a procedure on this past Saturday,
and everything just went down here from there.
So what happened?
What happened?
It was a malpractice by the doctors?
I just, I don't know.
Just happenstance?
I'm not exactly sure.
I don't know.
I know when she went to get a procedure done.
She went into the cardiac arrest.
Oh, my God.
And on Sunday, he was put in ICU and on Monday she's bad.
Man, that is horrible, man.
What's your brother's name, man?
His name is Kevin McArthur.
Man, Kevin McArthur, definitely sending a healing energy to you and your family, my brother.
That is horrible, man.
So sorry, man.
Yeah, I appreciate it, man.
Thank you so much.
Yes, sir.
All right, brother.
Damn.
That's hard.
Get it off your chest.
800.
585151.
We got the latest with Lauren coming up, so don't go anywhere.
It's the Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Take you're talking about a fool, bitch.
Yeah.
I'm not dumbing myself down.
I'm being myself.
That source is must.
I'm the homeguard that knows a little bit about everything and everything.
The little brown girls look at you and go, I want to be like you.
Take me through that.
Take me through that.
Where is she going?
The latest with Lauren or knows.
Take me through that.
On the breakfast.
Club. L.L. Coolbe. Talk to me.
Hello, Colby. Long and Rosa,
Brown Girl Griding. Yes. So,
yesterday, let's get right on into it.
Cardi B and ICE set it off
on X. Okay. So
everybody yesterday was reporting
about the fact that Cardi B jokingly threatened
ICE or to jump ICE at
her first night of her concert
in Palm Springs. Now,
ICE responded to this
on X. They retweeted one of TMZ's
headlines about it and said, as long
as she doesn't drug and rob our agents
will consider that an improvement over her
past behavior. Now this is the official Homeland
Security account. So then
Cardi B tweets back at them and she says, if we're
talking about drugs, let's talk about Epstein and
friends, drugging underage girls
to rape them. Why y'all don't want to talk about
the Epstein files? Valid question.
You know, the reality is
though there is no joking, joking,
joking. She was joking. Yeah, but there
is no way to joke about doing something
like that. That's like yelling, you know, there's a
bomb on the plane and saying this is a
saying this. Yes, it is.
But joking like that, nobody took it as serious.
Boy, shut up. The DHS took it serious. What you're
talking about? Yes, DHS
absolutely took it serious. And that's my point. Like, you know,
you got to be careful when you're having
those type of conversations, especially being somebody
like Cardi. Right. And they can target her
and her family. And her shows.
We're not talking to her fans. Yeah,
her fans, but like, you know how petty they are.
Their family and all them.
That's what I said yesterday.
Now, speaking of,
her next two shows, so she goes back on
on stage today. She's headed to Vegas.
And then after Vegas, she's doing L.A. on Valentine's Day.
So, and those are both, like, I looked up just the numbers in Vegas just to kind of see where immigration falls there.
And back in 2023, according to the Nevada Independent, the state's undocumented population there grew from 30 percent, grew by 30, I'm sorry, grew by 30,000 from up, grew by 30,000 from 20, from 2019 to 20203.
Yes, yes, a word was cut off.
So from 2019 and 2023, their population of undocumented people grew up.
probably 30,000 people.
And it's hit a peak since 2007.
That's just in Nevada alone, and then she's headed to L.A.
So one of the things I was thinking about is, like, yeah, I would fear that, like, now they're
going to try to be funny.
Like, they're going to try to be funny.
They're going to make her life miserable.
And ICE is not playing.
Like, for example, we wanted to get a mariachi band up here.
This is a true story.
We wanted to get a mariachi band up here today because Jess is part Mexican.
No, I'm not, my husband and my family.
There you go.
Yes.
So we wanted to get a mariachi band up here.
The Marriachi band was afraid to come.
They wanted to just, like, they were-taxed.
Are you for real?
I'm dead-ass serious.
That's true.
Dead-ass serious.
They were very nervous.
People are really shook about ice.
The corner store that I go to in my neighborhood, I was talking to him last week, and he was telling me.
It's not a bodega.
It's not a bodega.
It's not a bodega.
It's not a bodega.
It's just like a little convenience store.
It's not a good.
But he was saying that his business has been, like, heavily impacted, like, to the point where he's
thinking about shutting down for a bit because of ice in the neighborhood and people don't come to the store anymore.
And it's not making any money.
population and every year like they're not playing around imagine ice saying you know we're going to start
disrupting carty shows and just show up and be outside you know yeah just because i mean i hope i hope
not but that is something that could happen now because the conversation is started um i'm glad
you know you should speak out against the injustice you see ice doing you just got to be uh i guess
careful about the way but what's a safe way to because there is no safe way no but you
if she speaks about it regardless they're going to be on her show no no no no no i mean saying we're
going to jump they at yeah you can't say i'm a you we're going to you're going to
jump them if they come in. No, that's a threat.
That is a threat. But what was it? What's
a safe way? Just say F. Ice out? Okay.
Ice out works.
Ice out works.
Whatever she says, they're going to be on their ass.
I think so because it's Cardi. And they have
responded to our last tweet. Have they? No.
Nope. Not that I see. But yes, Envy's right.
They'll be on your ass regardless, but there's a difference
between them being on your ass with them saying, hey,
you're making criminal threats against us.
Yeah. That's the difference.
been killing people for nothing, so imagine.
Yeah.
Well, in other news, transitioning, speaking of keeping the peace, yesterday, Jirul issued an apology
to just his family, his friends, and just everybody that saw that plain incident that went
down between him and Tony Ayo and Uncle Murder.
So he says, I'm not proud of my behavior.
It's goofy to me.
I'm a grown man about to be a proud grandfather, and I wish that video of me wasn't out
there either.
I don't like people taking me out of my character.
So for that, I apologize to my wife, my family.
family, my fans, my businesses, and investment partners.
I want people to know that at the end of the day, I'm still a man and I'm not going
and I'm going to stand my ground.
I don't start trouble.
I thought that was very grown-up of J-Rul to do.
That's what that.
Yeah.
But in the meantime, Tony Ayo and Uncle Murder are still, you know, they're talking about it.
They have the real report that is out and they're talking about things not ending, but also
admitting that it was a bit immature.
Let's take a listen.
We're from New York City, right?
G-Unit is one of the toughest groups in the world, most dangerous.
We went through the most things.
We was down with 50 cent.
and it's prime.
Everybody wanted to do something.
Everybody wanted to kill us.
This is just another day at the office.
We're not advocating violence,
but to me,
beef is never dead.
It just gets old.
That's how we think in New York City.
And I think every New Yorker feels like that.
If your enemy was behind you,
I think you would have got off the plane too.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah, 100%.
I mean, like he said, that's true,
but you've got to get to a point where you're grown up, right?
Because you're ruining money.
You're not as young and do stupid ish anymore.
But like he said, if my enemy was behind me, I'm not getting on that plane.
I'm not going to let you stand.
If I'm behind you, I'm behind you, I'm behind me, not.
Yeah, and knowing all three of those individuals, I know they all look at that video and think they look ridiculous.
You know what I mean?
I know all three of them know, okay, this looks immature.
And all three of them doing big business.
Yeah.
So when you're doing big business, nobody wants to be next to that.
Exactly.
They're doing stuff outside of music.
Yep.
You know, Jai has his own liquor brand.
You know, Murder and Yale got a dispensary.
They got a podcast.
They're doing a bunch of businesses.
So you don't want to ruin that.
especially when it comes to advertisers or whatever.
And just don't jeopardize your freedom.
I was on a plane.
That could be a federal charge.
Dan,
you don't want to end up on a no fly zone
because I know somebody sent that to Delta.
I know Delta sent out a few emails.
And the way,
something's over there to be on them flights
out of country and all that y'all flies
to be on a no fly list.
But I was thinking that's the reason why job
apologize as well.
Because he flies a lot.
He's always traveling.
He's always torn.
So you don't want those problems
when they look at you like you said,
no fly list.
So I figured that was partly of it too.
100%.
Yes. Now, we got to wrap up, but in the next latest, we're going to talk a bit about Nancy Guthrie, who is Savannah Guthrie of the today show's mom, because the FBI has just upped the reward for her. And anybody with information for her.
Let me guess, $100,000?
$100,000 now if you have information that leads to them finding Nancy Guthrie.
So we'll get into the details because there's also a new description of a person that potentially was the suspect in the kid happening.
All right. We'll get to that next. Everybody else, when we come back, we got front page news. It's the breakfast club, good morning.
Good morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy.
Jess Hallioreas.
Sholomey Nagy.
We are the Breakfast Club.
Happy birthday, Jess.
Yes.
Yes, hilarious is born day.
I'm 34.
I'm 34.
No.
Let me hear of the Dominican blowout.
Now she want to talk.
There ain't no Dominican law.
Shut up.
Let's get some front page news.
What's up, Mimi?
Good morning, Envy.
Charlemagne.
Happy birthday, Jess.
Thank you, Mimi.
Peace, Mimi.
You're welcome.
All right.
So we start this hour with more on the safe.
America acts. So we told you about this yesterday. The House passed it, but now the messaging
around the bill is expanding and the Trump administration is amplifying rapper Nikki Minaj,
who is urging her fans to call their senators and support the legislation. Let's listen to her
encourage your followers to take action. So I knew that when I, you know, was out there asking for
stuff today. Yes, I was asking for you. I was asking y'all to help me today. Okay.

Welcome to the A building. I'm Hans Charles.
I'm Inalick Lamouba.
It's 1969.
Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.
had both been assassinated.
And Black America was out of breaking point.
Writing and protests broke out on an unprecedented scale.
In Atlanta, Georgia, at Martin's Almermata, Moore House College,
the students had their own protest.
It featured two prominent figures in black history,
Martin Luther King Sr., and a young student, Samuel L. Jackson.
be in what we really thought was a revolution. I mean, people would die.
1968, the murder of Dr. King, which traumatized everyone. The FBI had a role in the murder
of a Black Panther leader in Chicago. This story is about protest. It echoes in today's world
far more than it should, and it will blow your mind.

Her husband, Mike, was on his laptop.
What was on his screen would change Saskia's life forever.
I said, I need you to tell me exactly what you're doing.
And immediately, the mask came off.
You're supposed to be safe.
That's your home.
That's your husband.

He's like a seasoned pro.
This is a story about the end of a marriage,
but it's also the story of one woman

Save America Act, which is the Common Sense Act.
I would say this is the common sense party too.
First of all, do you know how many people don't even know and didn't know until now
that millions and millions of people have been voting with no photo ID, with no ID?
Like, so many people, y'all did not know that.
Boy, they're making Nikki earn every dollar, ain't you?
Boy, they're making Nikki earn every goddamn dollar boy.
Lord have mercy.
Not dollar citizen.
I don't know what it is.
what do they got on Nikki Monard?
God damn.
Yeah, because the Save Act, it's very controversial.
It would require proof of U.S. citizenship,
such as a passport or birth certificate to register to vote.
A driver's license alone would no longer be enough.
So according to reports, more than 21 million Americans,
they do not have easy access to a passport or birth certificate
or the money to even pay to get that,
or the internet access, or even the internet to fill out
the necessary forms.
Congresswoman Ianna Presley, she voted against the bill and says it could create new
barriers for voters.
Let's listen to what she had to say.
This is a bill that is a solution to search of a problem that does not exist.
Non-citizens already can't vote.
So to create a bill that requires proof of citizenship and denies forms of ID like state IDs
and real IDs as being a sufficient way to prove that you are citizens so that you can vote,
This is going to disenfranchise millions of voters.
It'll be costly.
It'll be inconvenient.
This will disenfranchise rule voters, military voters.
This is Jim Crow, voter suppression, full stop.
And that is why I voted hell now.
But who's shocked by this?
This is exactly what a dictator wants.
So Mimi, what exactly do we have to use?
Because I am a certain believer in using less ID in regards to certain things.
Like I hate having to bring a passport to the airport just because I don't have real ID.
So what do we, what would people need to vote?
And before you say that, so Nicky was wrong, you have to have identification.
It's just a type of identification, correct?
Well, yes, NB.
And also, too, though, we remember it depends on what state that you live in.
Some states, you know, when you go there, if you've already registered to vote, your name is in the system.
You've already passed all the checks.
You can vote.
Some states do require you to show your ID once you get there.
It literally depends on what state you're in.
Because it says 36 states have law required.
you to have an ID 36 states.
So I guess,
others you could just say
it's your name.
I've never not shown my ID.
Yeah,
always me too.
Yeah,
I always show my license.
Yeah,
well,
it varies.
It definitely varies by state.
But to answer your question,
Charlotte,
right now it hasn't passed the Senate.
So it's not law,
and we need to make that clear.
It's just past the House.
The Republicans,
President Trump,
they are pushing it really,
really hard because midterms
are coming up.
And so as
Congresswoman,
Congresswoman Presley just said,
you know, they want to take your power.
They're trying to basically rig the system because they feel like they can't win fair or square.
So we've seen them taking voter rolls.
We've seen them enacting new legislation.
And so this is just something else they're trying to put in place before midterm elections actually come up.
Got you.
So what would we need?
What ID would we need?
So if you, so basically they're saying that you would need to prove that you are U.S. citizen.
And that would be your birth certificate and that would be your passport.
Now, it gets a little confusing because to fly, right?
you only need a real ID, but in this case,
that real ID will do you no good because you can't use it to vote,
but you can use it to fly.
And all that noise they made for us to get the real ID
and we can't even use it to vote.
That's crazy.
Yeah, that's crazy.
Yeah.
So, you know, it's, it's meant to be confusing, Jess, to your point, right?
It's meant to be confusing.
And I think it's good, Mimi, that you clarify that it's not law yet
because I think that's going to be a narrative.
If they don't get it passed, it's going to be a narrative
that they put out there so much that people are,
just going to assume that it passed and they might just be discouraged to go vote because
they don't have all their ID come in terms.
Exactly.
So we'll continue to update people, but as of right now, it has just passed the House.
It still has to go through the Senate.
And then, of course, the president has to sign it, which he is definitely expected to do.
But we will keep following that.
And now to a really quick update on the Nancy Guthrie case.
So the FBI, they have a doubt.
This is getting good, by the way, Mimi.
This is really getting good.
I'm totally in right now with this, right?
Are you in it because it's so many twists and.
backpacks, I'm in. Go.
Okay, so here we are. This is what we know
so far, right? The FBI, they have
increased the reward to $100,000
for any information leading to her location
or the arrests of anyone involved.
Of course, we're talking about, you know, the
84-year-old mother of today show
co-host, Savannah Guthrie. She was kidnapped
from her to Tucson, Arizona
home on February 1st. On the FBI,
the Phoenix office, they've released an updated
details about the possible suspect.
They say he's between 5-9 to
5-10 with an average bill.
was seen on that doorbell video wearing that 25-liter Ozark Trail backpack. That's what you're
talking about, Envy? Yes. It was a black backpack, I believe, right? Did you see it? And they said
they could get it at Walmart, so it's a common backpack in that area. But he had two backpacks, and it was
video of him possibly found a couple of blocks away. Go. Tell me more. Yes. So, authorities also
say they received more than 13,000 tips so far, and multiple black gloves were also recovered,
and they are now testing those for DNA.
And, of course, her children, they posted a video on social media
and they're writing that they will never give up
and they continue to ask for proof of life.
Tell me who you think did it.
This is crazy.
I'm all the way in.
How are you just going to guess who you think did it?
You can't even randomly guessing up in a situation like this.
You don't even know who the suspects are.
Why, he acts like you watch a movie?
It feels like a movie.
It feels like a movie.
It definitely does.
Just when you think, you know, they got someone.
And it's like, nope, sorry, wrong person.
And then the surveillance videos.
I don't know, Envy, who do you think did it?
Because I can't.
It's an inside job.
I was getting right.
I was saying.
People feel like it's an inside job.
Yeah, but what do you say?
I would say this.
I feel like they should have caught them already, right?
But all the cameras around, they found the blood.
They found the type of backpack.
They found a glove.
Like, this is, they should know who it is already.
They should be getting pretty close.
They got cameras, the neighbors.
It was in a neighborhood.
So they're looking at the neighbor's cameras cameras.
I mean, we all know, like, throughout the streets, there's cameras everywhere.
I don't, I don't know.
I don't know.
And then the Trump administration has said that they were putting all the federal resources behind it.
So you got local authorities, you got federal authorities.
I don't know.
I don't know.
It's very interesting.
And lastly, before you head into the weekend, Valentine's Day is technically tomorrow,
but today is the single biggest flower delivery of the entire year.
It's even bigger than Mother's Day when it comes to total sales.
So because it falls on a Friday,
this year, most of the deliveries, they are going
out right now, straight to offices.
Flores, they call this their Super Bowl.
More than 250 million
roses are produced just for
this holiday. But here's the twist.
Valentine's Day is also one of the
top days that people find out
they are being cheated on.
Yes. Not because
someone confesses it, though, but because
logistics expose it.
So experts say, when you have that
many deliveries moving at once, mistakes
happen. Wrong address.
wrong office suite, two bouquets,
they show about the same workplace,
a card with a wrong name,
a receipt left in the wrong bag.
So private investigators
and relationship experts say Valentine's Day
consistently brings in a spike in calls,
often from people who notice a second reservation,
a duplicate charge,
or a delivery that wasn't meant for them.
They say that this is the one holiday
where everything has a paper trail.
Yeah, you're doing too much anyway.
You're doing too much if you know,
you're cheating and you buying, you know, your side chick a whole bunch of stuff on Valentine's Day.
Oh, yes, I do. You know, girls do that too.
That is true. Women do that too.
They have to suck two s' on, and Valentine's crazy.
What are you saying?
No, no, no, no.
You don't say that. You suck one.
Guys, this is a radio show.
Okay, okay.
You don't just do that.
But, I mean, the same thing with guys.
Much.
You're doing too much.
I don't know how this is shifted from gifts.
You are welcome.
That is your front page news.

Did you wish Jess a happy birthday, Mimi?
I sure did.
Oh, okay.
When Jess, I woke up this morning,
I texted her, I was like,
Jess, happy birthday.
Yes.
Thank you, Mimi.
I sure did.
Oh, wow.
Somebody just bought Jess flowers.
Thank you.
I know the name from Chris.
Oh, God, shut up.
Wow.
Wow.
Oh, they are?
Oh, it is Chris.
Oh, wow.
Oh, wow.
this is going to be.
Yo, shout out to Chris.
Oh, yeah, it is Jeff's birthday.
So Chris got those for Jeff's birthday.
Yes, yes.
Chris groom himself, picked him himself.
He put the floral arrangement together himself.
Shout out to Chris, man.
You are so stupid.
I love my husband.
Thank you so much.
He decorated the house with flowers and stuff too, so this is amazing.
Oh, he did?
Yeah, he did.
Salute to Chris, man.
All right.
When we come back, Jill Scott,
Jillie from Philly.
Man!
New album,
To Whom This May Concern,
will be out right now.
Thank you for Jill Scott
blessing us with her presence
this morning.
I can't wait.
And listen, man, it's Friday.
Okay, it's actually Friday to 13th.
That don't mean nothing no more.
Remember we used to be scared
to Friday to 13th when we was just?
Absolutely, like a dummy.
Don't nobody give a damn now.
But also, it's Friday to 13th.
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day.
But we do the people's donkey on Fridays
and that's when you can call in
and give somebody the credit they deserve
for being stupid.
I'm not going to tell y'all what to do.
But I would encourage y'all to call up here and give Donkey here today
the people who don't know that tomorrow is Valentine's Day.
If there's a man out there that you know has been doing you wrong,
there's a man out there that you know has been doing you dirty,
there's a man out there that you want to do right by you tomorrow,
but you don't think he is.
Feel free to call up here and give him the biggest he-ha-ha-all.
Okay, okay.
It's the world's most dangerous morning and show The Breakfast Club.
Good morning, everybody's DJ Envy.
Just hilarious.
Shalermaine Nagai.
We are the Breakfast Club.
the Roses here and we got a special guest in the building.
The legend, the icon, has returned to bless us with her presence once again.
Ladies and gentlemen, Jill Scott is back.
Welcome.
How you feeling?
Thank you, thank you.
How do you feel, Ms. Jill?
Excited.
Excited.
First album in a decade?
Ten years.
That's what I hear.
To whom it makes them shine.
Yes, sir.
By the way, I love the way you release music because it feels like you release music when you
feel like you want to, when the spirit moves you.
How do you know when it's the right time to release music?
because I have too much.
And then I,
it lets me relax.
When it's not finished,
I keep tweaking,
touching, touching,
tweaking,
finding new flavors,
seasonings, musicians,
producers.
And when it's done,
it leaves me alone.
And then I can just listen.
And I have so much
that I could just listen to.
I knew I was done.
I was like,
okay.
Now I can create.
I saw you talking about
when you took the time off
and how intentional you are
with just being a mom in that time that you took off
and then explaining to your son about
why you got to get back to work and teaching him that?
How has it been now that you're back out on the road
and you're doing all these things
and getting back into the swing of things?
Well, he's 16 now.
And I didn't have to explain anything to him.
He knew. He was in the studio with me.
You know, he's the one that suggested J.D.
He's the one that suggested Tierra Wack.
You know, he's been a part of the whole process.
So you got him working.
So he's an NR.
He is, he is an A&R.
Absolutely.
We'll see what else he can do.
Right now, he's a scuba diving,
cross-country,
singing, writing person.
All of that.
Yeah, thus far.
I'm just watching to see, you know, what I could do.
You know, how I can help out with the thing.
Does he know how special his mom is and how powerful his mom is?
Well, he loves me, you know.
Like whether I do well or if I, you know, what I have or don't have,
he loves me.
You know, we love each other.
Yeah, you're special and powerful to him in ways that we would never understand.
You was mom.
I love him.
I appreciate him.
I respect him.
Try to help him in any dream that he has.
And I don't even know what that'll even mean.
I don't know.
I don't care.
As long as he's happy and he can take care of himself financially that matters to us, I'm straight.
Like, he's a good person.
He's so funny.
He's cool.
So I'm glad he suggested J.I.D.
I was, we listened to him.
You know, like, this is our music in the kitchen.
This is what Jett and I do when we have time together.
And he said, Mom, why don't you call J.I.D.?
And I was like, I don't know him, Jet.
And he's like, just DM him.
And that's what you did?
Yeah.
And, like, minutes later, he texted back, like, what's up, Queen?
What you want?
What you want to do?
And I was like, well.
He said, send it.
And within 24 hours.
hours he sent his verse back. Wow. And when I tell you, I asked him specifically, I said,
I need you to paint a picture with words. This is what I require of the emcees that I love
and the emcees that I put on my projects. I need you to paint pictures. Less than 24 hours. Pars.
You could see it. You could taste it. He painted. Brilliant. So proud of him and so happy
that he's on my project. So what made you put Absoul on old to Nick?
Because I feel like old to Nikki would have been such a personal record to you that you would want to keep that to yourself.
What made you reach out to Absol?
Because Nikki Giovanni inspired writers.
She inspired poets.
And Absol is an ill-M-C.
Absolutely.
He's so thought-provoking.
I have to go back and listen again and again.
And then I pull out books and, you know, I pick up Wikipedia or whatever, you know, to find out exactly what he's talking about because he's that.
thoughtful. He's that prolific. He's had quite a life experience and it represents in his writing
deeply. So when I did old to Nikki, she's the first poet that I ever found out about
at school. Black poet, black woman. And it was just awesome to see myself on paper like that.
my people, my neighborhood,
you know, my love on paper.
So when I did old to Nikki,
she had just passed.
Absol seemed like the right guy to me.
I mean, no, he sounds great on it.
He does sound great on it.
I just wanted to know the meaning,
because I'm like, that's a big compliment for Absol.
Because we spent a lot of time talking.
We clicked really easily.
So we talked about the Celestine prophecy,
like within minutes of just talking to each other
and moved on from there.
So, yeah, he was the right person for me to choose.
So you look so happy.
Thank you.
You look so glowing.
I've been watching your rollout, right?
I've seen you with a D-Moo and I seen you doing a lot of pressing.
You just look and feel like a positive vibe.
I feel good.
I did something that I really wanted to do, and it means a lot to me.
And I have an opportunity to share it and perform it in front of people
that will be looking at me like I look at them.
and I get a chance to
to travel some more and make some money
you know but you even like even when I see
you do these interviews you're blushing
it's like it's like you're overly love it I love it
even when you got here this morning you were
you said what time do you guys get here in the morning
but you was smiling and happy about it
like I love it and I love to see artists like that
that loved the craft you can tell when the artist has to do something
for money or when an artist has to do something because the label is
requiring it or management required
then you can tell when somebody just loves putting out music
albums every 10 years she doesn't do anything because
the label wants her to do. I know. That's what I'm saying. You can tell the difference.
Even your rollout felt like
a hug. Like, I saw you
went from Gillian Wallow, then I saw you
on Angie Martinez, then eventually you started
doing, like, you were posting like the letters on your
Instagram and kind of explaining the project
and I'm like, this just feels like I'm being
ushered into like a whole new like world of
things. That was the plan.
I have a new publicist.
I think she's absolutely wonderful.
Her name is Erica.
Trucker, Tucker,
I think she's fantastic.
but we had a whole other idea
like two days before we started doing the rollout
two days before I just was like
hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on
we're talking about beautiful people
if we're going to put beautiful people out
as an introduction to the album
because really that's who I'm calling
I'm calling the people that light up
from the inside
you know that that love
love yeah love
love that
are
again
financially
respectful
to their lives
makes sense
okay
and so if that's the
intention is this is the callout
well let me represent the people
that have been so beautiful
in helping me with this project
you know it's all been organic
I met a guy at a party
it was like I'm two shorts
engineer. And I was like,
I believe you.
That record, the church going to be mad at you.
Oh, yeah. Possibly.
That's like part two, a Drusky skin.
Possibly.
It's the church in the education system, too, though, right?
Could you mention education in there as well?
Yes, and the pharmaceutical.
Yes, big pharma.
Yeah.
You ain't lied, though.
I know.
You didn't lie. And even just the choice to go get too short
to come on there and describe pimper.
The mentality of a pimp.
Perfect.
So we're clear.
I'm not saying anything.
I'm not trying to be mean to you.
What I want to be mean to somebody for?
That's not it.
This is what it is.
This is what it is.
And I have a thoroughbred pimp to tell you so.
It feels like the player's ball.
It feels like it's pimpy.
It's a phala.
It's like revolutionary.
at the same time.
And I was like, yeah, okay, what am I going to talk about?
This is what I want to say.
I say preacher, man.
What you're trying to do?
Trying to get this money.
Is that all you do?
When mama ain't got squat, but you take that toe.
And you ain't good for the people.
I ain't moved.
Where's the universities?
Where's all a fool for free?
People can't pay the bells, but you're still riding around
in the coopedville.
Biggest pimp of the year.
Uh-huh.
So if everything's a sign, do you ever see a sign that says,
I'm not going in that direction?
I'm not going there.
Or management, let's not do that because that does not feel right.
It's not as easy.
It's abrupt.
It's harsh.
It's a jerkback.
And I haven't really, I don't know how to, like, navigate that part yet.
But I will get, I will get away.
I will get away
I've learned that too
then when the spirit says no
when your whole energy says no
what are you doing
don't talk to this person
I remember talking to somebody at a party
and I was like why you got COVID
all in my face
and I was like
see
girl
pay attention
everything makes so much sense now
because you know one of my favorite records
on the album is pay you on Tuesday, right?
And it's so funny because my niece had
put out a tweet yesterday and she put a few young black
and gifted, get away from n-hens and
your shit ASAP, right? And I just thought that was hilarious.
And then I heard pay you on Tuesday, but now I'm like, oh, she's
staying away from the poor me
energy type. I mean, now that I hear you talk about the book so much,
I'm like, oh, that's why she wrote that record.
Part of it. Part of it, yeah.
Part of it. And I know I keep saying financial,
but I am really over us
spending and buying things that we can't afford
for who, for what?
It's so many things to do, to taste, to see,
places to be.
I just don't see how it profits us.
I like nice stuff too.
I really do.
But I buy the stuff that I can afford.
And somebody else was like, you can afford.
You don't know what I could afford.
And you don't know what I want.
But you act your wage.
I do.
I do.
I do.
I think it's a wise decision.
I save properly.
I invest.
I really want to switch out of this poverty mindset or the lacking mindset of some, you know, my family break away from these things.
I'm not interested in doing that anymore.
I want to grow.
And I want to make a whole lot of money.
Like a whole lot.
and I'm going to do great things with it
enjoy it. I already do
enjoy the money I have.
I do dope it on the regular.
I really do. It's been
so nice. Oh my God.
You know my son
went to Tanzania
to get his scuba certification?
Wow. That's amazing.
That's so flying.
I was like, I've never been.
I went to Zanzibar, Tanzania, and Tanzania.
I've never been, but he has
like, yes.
That's the most important thing, right?
When we get to a place where it's like, none of this matters.
You just want your kids to be happy.
Whatever it takes to be happy.
I tell my daughter and my son, I don't care what you do.
If you want to do nails, if you want to do hair, if you want to do sanitation, as long as you're happy.
Life is too short.
Joyful.
Happy is fleeting.
Joyful.
Joyful.
Look for it.
That's an insight as well to constantly look for the joy.
Taste the food.
Taste it.
Feel the water.
It's nice.
And it sparks creativity.
I can't afford to eat that, Jill,
and I can't afford to go there to swim in that water.
So can you loan me something?
You can get $10,000 real quick?
I've learned this.
If someone wants to borrow something from you,
you give them a job.
Word.
If they do the job and do the job well,
then you're showing me something.
I'm going to give you a small reimbursement contract.
I'm going to say,
$25 a month.
Fair? Yes.
You don't pay the $25.
I don't know how when it's going to stop.
It's going to stop.
If you're consistent.
If you're consistent.
If you're not consistent,
you never have to worry about me again.
You never have to ask me anything again.
Because this was a contract.
It didn't have any interest.
This was respect.
So I enjoy helping people,
but I have to see what they want.
I have to see what they're doing.
You wing.
I got to see something.
You got to show me something.
Can't just tell me a dream.
Okay?
When did you get to that point in your life?
Because I saw you talking to Angie Martinez about that, right?
And setting these boundaries.
But then I also hear you talk a lot about like you carry so much for your family for a long time
because you were trying to like, like, y'all were trying to get out of the situations that you guys were in.
And I think that there's like a, sometimes there's like this tug of war of like, I'm able to help.
So I want to help.
But at the same time, I got to set these boundaries.
When did Jill Scott say, I didn't did enough?
I got to stop this.
Now.
Now.
Something had to happen.
I turned 50.
And the light popped on again.
Yeah.
That's what happened.
Time creates wisdom.
You know, if you're paying attention.
If you're not paying attention, it just creates age.
But, yeah, I've been paying attention.
And I know that that doesn't make me feel good.
To watch people do things that are out.
outside of their, their particular space, financial space.
Like going on a cruise, okay?
You're going on a cruise, but you didn't pay the mortgage.
I can't help you with that.
And the fact that you would ask me to is ridiculous.
You made a choice.
That is your choice.
It wasn't like something happened.
Like, you know, the car broke down or, you know, the tuition is behind.
It's nothing like that.
And even if tuition is mine, how'd them grades?
How are they doing?
What activities are they in?
Because it's mine.
And I can share with you as I seem fit and deem fit.
It might seem harsh, but I don't know.
It feels right to me.
I feel better.
I don't feel weighed down by people's stuff.
I don't think that's harsh.
And also, what about when you give somebody money for mortgage,
but then you go see them on a cruise?
after they just asked you from
I didn't get invited to the crew
What is n' blues to you?
That's his favorite song by the way
It's called Pay You on Tuesday
I have a lot
No I got a lot of favorite record
But that record was hit for me yesterday
In a real way
I got a lot of favorite record on that
But that one really was okay
Music is medicinal
It'll hit you when you need it
So what do you mean by
Like what does it do for you?
Man
For me, it just put things in perspective based off what you're saying,
because you're saying a lot of that throughout the song as you're singing.
But it's also, it's like, I don't want no more blues.
Stop putting your problems on me.
I can wake up in the morning and be good.
And then by the end of the week, I'm feeling way down.
And then when you realize why you're way down,
it's because you're trying to help everybody else with their shit.
I don't want no more.
It's exhausting.
Yes.
It's exhausting.
I love to inspire.
I want people to do better.
But if they don't want people.
Wanted, what am I supposed to do?
Just keep pouring into an empty well.
I can't do it.
The things that you do don't benefit you.
So why do I have to?
Damn.
That's a bar.
I wonder when you do records like pressure,
when you do records like me for,
is that, when you do the actual record,
is that when the closure comes
or do you have closure before in order to do the record?
I've never thought about it.
I don't know if you.
that I'm looking for closure necessarily.
I need to say it.
I need to say it.
It is true.
I need to get it out.
I think that's how I feel about that.
Yeah.
And then when I listen to it, it becomes an affirmation for me because I've said it.
And I was like, yeah, you said that.
Because that's what it is.
That's exactly what it is.
Yeah.
You ever went too far and was like, let me take this out.
Man, many, many times.
Really?
Many times.
Many times.
I typically write the thing before I get into the studio so I can find how it feels when I get in there.
Or I already know how it feels.
It wasn't something.
I don't know if I necessarily went too far.
Let me be clear.
I just said some shit I probably shouldn't have said.
That might be too far.
I don't know.
It was the right thing.
And when I listened to it, I'm like, yep, that's right.
You know, that was real there.
But I probably shouldn't have shared it.
You went hard on this album.
Oh, yeah, I did.
You say you married a bitch.
Yeah.
That's pretty, that's pretty far as.
I want to know what with that.
I was pretty self-explanatory.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
I think I just needed to get stuff out to, you know,
music is healing for the artist as well, supposed to be.
What's the moral compass with that?
Is it yourself saying now?
Is it your son?
Is it your homies?
been like, I haven't had that.
It didn't come up.
Nobody said anything.
You know, and my son listens to everything.
And we talk about everything.
Yeah, so it didn't come.
Nobody said, hey, you probably shouldn't say that.
Nobody did.
And I don't know if I would agree or disagree about it.
Did you see how everybody's going crazy about squeezing my meat?
It's a song called Don't Play.
Yeah, right?
But I didn't see people going crazy.
Oh, boy, I did.
They were like,
squeeze my meat.
And I was like,
she said,
squeeze my meat.
She was doing,
squeeze my meat.
And I was like,
I did.
They not used to that
from you yet at this point?
It's a new generation
of people who just
be on Twitter.
I'm just,
I'm just confused.
Maybe you all can help me out here
because I would love to know.
I've heard lyrics.
Mm-hmm.
That,
Oh, way worse.
Flob on my n-
Like corn on the cob?
They're singing about eating that
now, Jill?
I heard.
Yes, I heard.
I heard.
I heard I listen to a lot of music.
And because I listen to a lot of music,
I was just like,
what exactly is so radical
about squeeze my meat?
They're not real Jill Scott fan.
No.
But besides being a fan or not,
like, what's radical about that?
I just thought I'm missing something.
Probably the way you sung it.
When you sing it with such,
you know,
because it sounds amazing.
So you might be just randomly finding yourself singing it, even as a guy.
You know what I mean?
I also think it's too, like with the new generation, they get it different ways.
Like, go ahead.
Is it that catchy to me that you're saying?
I'm sure I will at some point.
The end of the despair to move me and I'll just be coming around the corner.
Squeeze my meat.
You better never sing that if you were in the bathroom with me, bro.
I'm just saying it might can happen.
That's all.
I think it's the fact that you gotta say, squeeze.
Like I think they said it was, they were, they were saying.
demon the big ariola music
I heard that too
yeah I was like
the big ariola music
yeah they're basically
if you don't know what to do with it
don't come over here
that's the conversation
and I think it's just
right now in music
you either get stuff like that
very straightforward to the point
where it's not sensual
and that has always been you
to be able to communicate
those type of things
in a very unique way right
but there is a new generation
of like creators and artists
who are listening to this
and discovering your ability
for the first
time and they just think it's so powerful
and forward and I'm like welcome
I don't talk to people though
people like that's like people like that I hate people
that I don't want to have to don't know I don't want to catch up with you
okay like we over here celebrating Jill Scott because of who
Joe Scott always has been I don't have time to explain
the greatness of Jill Scott you know catch up in your own time
fair enough you'll get there catch up in your own time

I'm Inelik Lamumba.
It's 1969.
Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.
had both been assassinated,
and Black America was out of breaking point.
Writing and protests broke out on an unprecedented scale.
In Atlanta, Georgia, at Martin's Almemata, Moore House College,
the students had their own protest.
It featured two prominent figures in black history,
Martin Luther King Sr., and a young student, Samuel L. Jackson.
To be in what we really thought was a revolution,
I mean, people would die.
The murder of Dr. King, which traumatized everyone.
The FBI had a role in the murder of a Black Panther leader in Chicago.
This story is about protest.
It echoes in today's world far more than it should, and it will blow your mind.

Right.
I got to explain it.
They'll get to.
Life will happen.
And then there I'll be.
Your loving 90.
With so many stories to tell.
So many life experiences to share.
So many lessons learned.
So much music.
My last question.
When it's all said and done,
what does peace look like for Jill Scott?
And did this album bring you closer to whatever that is?
Life is bringing me closer to my piece.
And my kid doing well for himself.
And my mother living so comfortably and she's happy.
My private, my personal life is solid.
I love my home.
I love my friends.
I have beautiful friends, y'all.
You would fuck with them.
Anybody would.
Like, they're so dope.
So many levels of it.
There's not a lot of them, but they're powerful.
I'm I'm you know
I say you're happy
You say it joyful
And people get upset about it
I feel sorry for that for you
People are upset about you saying it
People are upset about other people feeling joy and being happy
Yes
They do it all the time
I see it
Yes
Yeah
I don't know what it is
I don't care what it is
It's not my bag to carry
I'm going to let this little light of mine shine
And that light will irritate some demons and others
You see what I'm saying
That's what I'm saying
I have a force field I put it on
It goes under my feet above my head
Anytime I think about it or I just put my force field on
And I walk through my life
We're superheroes
We can do really anything we want
Anything we can imagine
You just need the power to do it
The power is love
the power is sincere friendships.
The power is guidance.
My mentor is outside somewhere.
Like having that is and anybody can attain it.
Anybody at any time, in any state of their life, can get all of the things.
My mentor sometimes life will be a little stressful.
She'll come in swinging, swinging, like boys in the hood, swinging.
She'll kick.
It's a physical manifestation of a spiritual thing.
She's fighting off whatever can't happen.
And then she says, who!
And I love that.
I'm like, damn, I'm really like,
everything I ask for.
Praise God.
Amen.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
Everything.
Wow.
It's okay, feel that.
That's what I've been feeling all interview.
I'm like something, she, there's a feeling here.
I just don't know what it is, but I'm so glad that you in this space.
You deserve it.
You worked hard.
Ma'am.
For a long time.
You've been literally like the Jill Scott my whole life.
I'm 34.
I just want you to know what you mean to so many people.
Like I hope you know that we really love you and we value you.
We appreciate you.
Absolutely.
you putting out new music means so much.
Like this is an event.
Like, oh my God, Jill Scott putting up,
putting out new music.
Like, that matters.
Like, a lot of people that put out music,
I can take it to leave it.
Some people put out music, the world stops for me.
That's right.
And that is what you're doing.
To whom they make a sorry?
I'm glad to take a nap.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Jill Scott,
the album is out today.
They should be buying and say.
We're making a siren out right now.
All that good stuff.
We appreciate you.
so much. I hope you get that nap.
Yes. Yeah. You give me. That's divine. Go get that nap. You deserve it.
Your soul deserves it. Oh my goodness. All you got to do is stay yet.
It's the breakfast club. Good morning. Let's get right to the latest. That wasn't in a
real time.
She gets them from somebody that's a lot. She gets the details. I'm the home girl that
knows a little bit about everything. She'd be having the latest on this.
The latest with Lauren LaRosa.
Sometimes you have facts, sometimes you have detail, sometimes you have a little bit of...
Bullish dollars.
Brought to you by Talk Dog Law on the Breakfast Club.
Talk to me.
I like that fit, Lauren, with the trucker hat.
I know I do like that.
I told her she looks really nice today.
Trucker hat is from browngirl grinding.com.
And that choker is fire.
Sheen.
I like your merch.
The outfit's from Instagram.
I'm wearing your hoodie right now, too.
Yes, yes, yes.
How is the quality of the hoodie?
I worked hard on that this second job.
I like that you have, like, you know, the one I'm going to.
says black women are freaking gorgeous
right and that's dope but then I like that you
representing for the Latinos with the brown girl grinding
so it's dope like you're very all in cheeses
with your merch I love it and I don't know if you
were before bad bunny performance last Sunday
but you know brown grind it has been around since
2016 remember you took me to breakfast club court over it
in my early days yeah yeah because Carrie
champion got brown girl dreaming
yeah you stole it from her
originally brown girl grinding was created because of the color of my skin
but all brown women have joined
the movement so you know love a brown girl grinding
somewhere and black women are effing gorgeous
Oh, God.
Shut up.
Let's get into the latest.
What we got?
Oh, did already play?
Oh, shoot, I'm late.
Y'all today has been a day.
Happy Friday.
I'm good.
No, she's frazzles.
She's finding out
that somebody got another family.
I feel it.
But continue.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
Go ahead.
Keep going on.
That is not in my ministry.
I'm having a...
My Valentine's day is about to be amazing.
Okay.
I actually was running late this morning
and that kind of threw me off a bit.
But I'm good.
I'm here and I'm blessed.
I'm alive.
Okay.
Yes, ma.
So let's start at the top.
So America's Next Top Model, there is a documentary that will be dropping on the 16th.
Recapping some of America's Next Top Model's, like craziest moments and just digging into the show itself, right?
But in new news from this documentary, we found out that Tyra Banks potentially wants the show to return with the cycle 25.
Now, the conversation, I mean, some people are excited about that, but the conversation that I thought about when I saw this was would America's Next Top Model even be able to exist?
in 2026.
The way that it used to,
like the way they used to judge the women.
You know what?
Yeah.
Speaking of hazing,
wow.
Yes.
And via like how you,
you know,
brought that all together.
How?
It could easily exist.
They just have to not care
about the opinions of other people.
And what's going to be funny
is everybody on social media
will act so outraged,
but they'll be entertained every week
and be watching every day.
Exactly.
I would tune in every episode.
But like they did,
I remember they did the blackface episode,
but they were supposed to just be switching ethnicities.
They had the fat shaming episode,
a couple of fat shaming moments.
hilarious.
Hilar.
Who?
Now, they won't do the fat shaming, though.
They'll do it all that, but they're not going to do the fat shaming.
I actually talked to Takara on the podcast, the latest with Lauren the Rosa.
And, I mean, she, I think the models today would have to come with the same energy that the models back then did, where they were like, we hear, we know what goes down in the industry.
We don't care.
Takara actually talked about the drama that she went through because the stylist was literally like poking her skin and telling her like, you need to lose this.
And then also telling her-
was fired.
Oh, Tukar was so fire, but that's why we were so upset because she was our favorite,
but they made her weight a thing that she wasn't even trying to be stopped by.
Let's take a listen to her on the drama and how she handled it.
I didn't really have drama.
I mean, I did have my little, my thing with the stylist, you know, that pinched me
and couldn't find any clothes for me.
And I mean, I guess I did have my share of obstacles.
But I come from that where, like, I was smiling when I was 14.
So we're used to the drama.
It wasn't all peaches and cream.
You had to do things.
Like, I think Tyra was doing what she said she was doing, showing the industry how it was back then.
Yeah, so different, different type of attitude.
If you guys want to go and take a listen to that interview, it isn't full on the latest with Lauren the Rose of the podcast.
But the industry has changed a lot, though, too.
A hundred percent.
Yes.
Yes, absolutely.
I wouldn't say 100%.
Let me take that back.
They have to try now because people get online and tell you when they're not trying.
So I think that there's a different type of accountability.
But they use plus size models all the time now.
Yeah, but it's still hard for the girl.
They had plus thousand miles back then.
Lane Brian had been around for a long time.
Ashley Stewart.
You see what I'm saying?
It was far a few back then, but now you see more and more of it.
What did you just call them?
Did he say, we said far and fat and what?
Full figured.
Oh my God.
This boy is crazy to call.
But even some of the things they would say, like I remember the call.
The call of a full-figure person far is crazy.
You know, remember when big girls used to be like, I'm big bow.
But your bones are not big.
Like, everybody bowled the same size.
They used to use that.
that all the time. We big, dog, we're not bad.
We'll see what happens and if that can
work out. I had a whole list of all the bad moments.
I don't, we don't even go through it.
I want to hear him, because I don't remember. I never used to
watch America next time. I remember Winnie Harlow got in trouble because
some. You got some? We don't have a cut, no.
But Winnie Harlow got in trouble because they called her,
they were trying to be nice about it. They called her
lovable panda because of her Vidal.
And she went to the photographer and was like,
I don't like this. And he was like,
if you don't like the nickname, I don't have to call you that.
But basically, like, she was the problem.
But see, that's different, though.
If the person in real time was saying they don't like it,
then you got to respect how that person.
It didn't go down like that.
There was like the first openly trans model on the show.
That was the thing as well, too.
And the questions they were asking her at the time would not fly today.
What about the fat one?
Well, Wendy was, well, she was mean as hell anyway.
You want to hear more fast.
No, I'm saying.
What was considered fat shaming back then?
They were literally poking to cars like, like, they were not her meat.
Well, nobody going up to her poking her.
They were bragged her.
You're braided her.
They were squeezing. I'm sorry, squeezing.
They were squeezing her.
They told her that they didn't have clothes for her because of her sizes.
And she was a visit.
Like, she was upset.
And they were like, crazy.
I did not know people was actually really poking her skin like squeezing her.
Listen, it was a whole thing.
What kind of questions is they asked for us?
I'm not.
Stop it, show.
They were asking.
I don't know.
They were asking her questions about her identity and how that whole thing worked because of the transition.
But did she eat on them pitches, though?
That's what matter.
But listen, it just couldn't last today.
I don't think.
but we'll see what happened.
You can ask me with those questions now.
These are years and this is a long time ago.
Like these cycles were what, like almost a decade ago?
Yes, they still X.
So the documentary is not going to be no good then.
Because the documentary is probably going to be watered down
because they're going to be afraid to offend people.
I don't think so.
I hope not.
Tyra Banks said in the documentary,
she's questioning, did she go too far,
which has always been the question.
I think they're going to get into it.
It's coming out on Netflix.
Like when Breakfast Club do a documentary,
I can't wait to go back back in the day.
You could never.
Why can't I?
You want to bring up all.
those moments? Why not? That's the whole point of growth
and evolution. Why not? Absolutely
positivity. You were horrible. And
look at me now? No, baby.
I was horrible. God took me
through the journey, the exact journey
that he wanted me to go through. To get to the
point that I'm at right now. I agree. So I have no problem
exploring that and revisiting that.
Did you see that the fart inward
girl had to apologize yesterday?
Really? Yes. That's crazy.
She apologized. She said
she was unaware that they were going to pull the plug
on her show and now she wants to focus on
the people who truly know her character
and fixing her relationships
and she's sorry
that word has never been a part
of her vocabulary.
I can't tell.
I asked so many people yesterday about that
and nobody has ever heard that term.
Yeah, I was gonna say
what is the fart?
What is that?
Oh, fart.
That's crazy.
Yeah, we have the rest of that hour.
Who you was asking,
what a white friend you got
that just be talking to you about the N-word?
I'm just saying it,
you know, is that the term?
White and black.
I'm just asking,
have you ever heard the term faunt?
Never.
Like, nobody's ever heard that.
Never.
But you act like your wife is going to be like, yeah, dude, I hear it all the time.
Like, they wouldn't tell you that they heard it before.
They would have said, yeah, no, I've heard somebody say it before.
But I've never heard it.
I've never, you know, tried to screwing a like it or sock it or whatever and say, hey, fart.
I just never heard that before.
Yeah, like, why would that come to your mind?
Correct.
Well, we have to wrap the latest.
But if you guys check out the podcast, the latest will learn on La Rosa.
If when you check it out today, we'll be talking about Kelly Rowland and some of the things that have been,
she was asked about Beyonce and Beyonce giving her notes on her tour, and she handled it so well.
So we'll cover that over on the podcast.
podcast side. And I'm going to let you know
that this has been sponsored by Top Dog Law. So any
accident, big or small, y'all call Top Dog Law.
Happy birthday, Jerry Springer.
You look cold. You, you're right?
Me? Yeah, you look cold.
I'm so warm. I have on layers today. I put stockings
under this. He's saying that because you got holes in your clothes.
I know, but I put layers on.
Donkiel to him. He's ridiculous.
Envy.
Sheldonemy. Donkey. What you doing?
Listen, for after the hour, you know, Friday is the people's
donkey. So we allow people to call up and
give people to credit they deserve for being
stupid. But tomorrow is Valentine's Day.
So I really want to give you women an opportunity to call up here and put these no good Negroes on blast.
Just no good humans period on blast, okay?
I love that this year.
Yeah, because last year you blamed us.
It's your time to nominate a donkey of your own.
Remember that.
That's how they choose.
Yes.
Call in now.
800585-105-1.
Listen, donkey today for Friday, February 13th is the people's donkey.
This is what we allow people to call in and give folks to credit they deserve.
for being stupid. And I'm letting you know right now tomorrow is Valentine's Day.
Now, historically, I've given people who don't got nobody donkey of the day, and that's not right,
because there's various reasons that folks don't have anybody. Okay, honestly, some of y'all don't
got nobody because some people ain't hitting on nothing. Okay, there's just some terrible humans on this planet.
All right, for example, there's a young man walking around this office right now. Okay, he's from Ghana.
He works here on the breakfast club, and he is dressed like he's going to cheat after work because he knows tomorrow
he got to be with his main sugar stain, so he probably told his main, he got to work.
late today and I just want her to know that's a lie it's Friday and then the most are working late
okay there are people out here who just don't love themselves also okay and uh I just want you to know
they could never truly love you and today is your opportunity to give them the biggest he-hael so good
morning good morning who's this this star hey star who you want to get the biggest he-ha to star
I want to give it the biggest he-haw to this guy who was leading me off for six months just to find out
that he was living with his girlfriend the whole time you had a whole girlfriend he had me
solid for him. So I think he deserved
the biggest he ha ha today. And do.
When did you find out this week because Valentine's Day
is tomorrow so he had to cut you off?
No, I didn't find out this week. I found out like
a couple months ago. Wow.
But I just never said nothing. I just kind of
kept to myself and cut him off. But I was like, you know what?
Today he deserves it because he has been sending
me soft flowers and just kind of leading up
to Valentine's Day. And I've just been throwing everything in the trash.
Well, what's his name? Yeah.
AJ.
AJ. Where are you calling from?
I'm calling from Florida.
Oh, man.
And it's true what you say.
It's true what you say, Sholomey.
I use that all the time.
The dumbest people come from Florida and all of the Bronx, that's for sure.
I'm originally from New York.
Wow.
And I have never met the most dumbest people, but like here in Florida.
Well, crazy, as I don't say dumb.
I say crazy as, yes.
I say crazy as people.
Right, not dumb.
I like to say dumb as dumb because they really dumb.
Got you.
Well, I'm happy that you got that off your chest, man.
But, you know, I do have to salute.
A.J. because it ain't nothing worse than having to eat two poom-pums on Valentine's Day.
Have a nice day.
See, that's messed up.
I know it is.
That is messed up.
One for the morning.
It's one for the night.
Damn.
Good morning.
Who's this?
Good morning.
This guy's calling out of North.
What's happening, my brother?
Who you want to get the biggest he-hard to?
I want to get the biggest he-hard to the economy.
The price is going up and the pay is going down.
Yeah.
You know, when you're a truck job and you're complaining about getting that money,
it's got to be bad out here.
Well, that's not the, it's not.
The economy for it. It's the current administration.
You ain't lying about that, brother.
Oh, I want to say happy birthday to Jess, man.
Happy birthday.
Thank you. Thank you so much.
Very welcome.
Hey, Jess, love a truck driver, too.
Hey, you know?
I know she's married to one.
That's right.
I ain't Mexican, though.
Oh, God, I'm sorry.
Don't worry about it.
But I still work hard.
I'm out of here.
That's right, my brother.
I love it.
Thank you for calling.
Good morning.
Who's this?
Alicia.
Hey, Alicia.
you want to get the biggest he hard to?
I want to get the biggest he hard to both my big daddies.
But they need the Remy donkey.
The Remy Donkey.
Okay.
What's your baby daddy name?
Yep.
Big C and squirrel.
Big C and squirrel.
You're from Baltimore?
Uh-uh.
I'm from Michigan.
Oh, all right.
I was the way to say, girl.
I do the M.
Go ahead, go ahead.
What did Big C and Squirrel do?
Well, Big C.
Been trashed since the beginning.
I get myself donkey too free,
and giving them any of me to even have a kid.
But my daughter's dad has been ignoring us because he's supposed to go half on his prime dress.
Damn.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, so he won't even answer my daughter phone calls Orte.
That's rough.
He couldn't ignore me, but don't ignore your child.
Yeah, don't ignore your child.
You know what she should do?
She should just text dad to say, happy Valentine's Day, dad, tomorrow, see what he do.
Yeah, I'm going to tell her.
She's mad, though.
She's in her feelings about it because I'll dare you ignore me,
and I'm just trying to have a conversation with you.
I don't, you don't owe me money.
And I'll tell you something else.
What father is that? What's his name? That's Big C or Squirrel?
Big C.
No, that's Squirrel.
Squirrel, you should be ashamed to yourself.
If you're buying any woman, anything tomorrow for Valentine's Day,
or taking a woman out, and you know that you need to go half on your daughter's prom dress.
That's trifling.
Now, what if Squirrel show up tomorrow with the prom dress in the plastic?
Like, ha-ha!
Y'all thought I ain't get it.
We're getting the custom made, so he could just pay that $4.50 for that payment tomorrow if he really want to help.
Damn.
I know you mad you let squirrel get that.
I know you mad you let squirrel get that.
But listen, what about Big C?
What Big C do?
Big C, he hasn't been present in my son's life for 15 years.
He got out of jail, didn't even call him that my son know about his great grandma.
Funeral preparations or anything.
Jesus.
Hey.
I'm going to tell you something, man.
You know how to pick him, okay?
I hope you don't.
I know, right?
Damn, this was her.
This was her back in the day.
This was you back in a day.
I hope you don't have no Valentine
tomorrow. You don't deserve one.
Do you have a Valentine's tomorrow?
Uh-uh, my kids is my Valentine's.
There you go.
Oh, okay.
Finally, finally, finally, finally.
I'm going to go to the Wheaton 1 by myself, you know.
Oh, the Wheat and One still coming to Detroit,
coming to Michigan tomorrow?
No, that's going to be in Indianapolis.
I live in Indy now.
Oh, okay, okay, okay.
That's what stopped, babe.
Well, you enjoy.
I'm going to go there with my cousins.
I don't need no man.
I'm good.
Because I don't know how to pick them.
So, until God, who I'm supposed to be with.
in my life.
That's right.
Now, hold on now.
See, I love a woman that can take some account about it.
I started to hit you with the Bobby Womack if you think you lonely now, wait until
the night.
But I like a woman with some accountability.
I love that.
No, no, no.
I know I can be the problem, too.
So I just been praying that God who is supposed to be in my life in my life.
How many women can admit that, especially on Valentine's weekend?
It's a lot of women right now lying to their self saying they ain't got nobody because
There ain't nobody out there on their level.
Your level is in hell.
You're the problem.
You need to raise your vibration, ma'am.
Yeah, no, I know.
I know.
Oh, and I'm a cancer, too, July 18th.
Oh, my God, you're trouble.
I know.
I'm a cancer.
I know.
I know.
Listen, I'm sending you nothing but healing energy.
I want you to heal, man.
Thank you.
I appreciate it.
I really do.
And I got all your books.
Thank you very much, ma'am.
Yes, I'm best going to be buying yours, too, of course.
Oh, absolutely, because you need, you especially need my.
No, you really do.
Her book is all about co-parenting.
It's called Tell Death Do We Parent?
I'm 17 years in the game.
I've been trying to him, but...
Trust me, it's okay.
It's going to get better.
It's pre-order the book.
You can actually pre-order it now.
I'm not going to lie.
I am.
You sound like a war veteran.
I'm 17 years.
I'm going to fight all my life.
That's what it makes you feel like, huh?
God damn.
Thank you.
Yes.
Yeah.
Well, we hope Big C.
and Squirrel get it together, man.
Yeah.
Yeah, me too, for them kids.
They ain't got to do nothing for me,
but do right by your kids.
Yes, indeed.
Thank you for calling.
Thank you.
All right.
Have a great day.
Man, God bless that woman, man.
Can we have a conversation
about accountability this morning?
Absolutely.
Because there's a lot of women who feel,
you know, like they're the prize
and they to catch and they don't have nobody tomorrow
because, you know, ain't no man on their level.
When it's really they're the problem.
Yeah.
Their level is in hell.
Okay?
That's what your bar is for yourself.
You as a person.
You ain't did no work on yourself.
Okay.
You ain't went out there and took the time to heal and become the woman you need to be,
but you're looking for a man.
Absolutely.
That woman had accountability.
That woman said she knows she the problem.
How many of you ladies out there know you the problem?
We ain't going to get many calls.
Why not?
Because ladies don't like to admit that they're the problem,
especially on Valentine's Day Eve.
Ain't nobody trying to admit day the problem?
I believe in our breakfast club listeners.
I believe that, you know, y'all are self-aware like we're self-aware.
And I believe that y'all take accountability, like we take accountability.
and I believe that y'all want to use this moment
to call in and make the world a better place
by looking at yourself in the mirror
and making a goddamn change.
Call us right now and tell us,
let us know of you the problem.
Come on Luther King, they're not going to do that.
He'll just calm down over there.
Nobody's going to call up and say that a day before Valentine's Day.
NB texted right now saying we did this last year.
Well, guess what?
We're going to do it again this year.
No, no, no, no.
You was getting on the women last year.
No, you was like getting on them real big.
You made everybody call up and tell them why they don't have a Valentine's.
Damn.
Yeah, don't do that this year.
Do something for the...
No, let's do it for the ladies.
See, I want Valentine's Day to be all about y'all.
Call up right now, 1,800-5-150-150-1 and tell us, ladies, if you're the problem.
It's the Breakfast Club.
It's Topic Time.
Call 800-585-105-1 to join in to the discussion with the Breakfast Club.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy.
Just hilarious.
Salamey Nagy.
the Breakfast Club.
Now, for you just joining us,
of course, Valentine's Day
is this Saturday,
and we're asking
800-585-105-1,
are you the problem
in your relationship?
Let's open up the phone lines.
Hello, who's this?
Good beer.
Why you start off with all the smoke?
You must be the problem in your relationship.
I'm in a relationship no more,
but I wasn't the problem.
Oh, we can hear it.
Yeah, we can hear it.
Why are you the problem?
Why don't think y'all can hear it?
It just sound like you ain't,
listen, there ain't no working on nothing with you.
You come with the smoke every minute you can get.
No, I'm not.
on lot to y'all. After when I went through, I became a whole different person and looked at
a whole lot different. What you got through? I had my boy, he's four and now, and I went in a coma
and was paralyzed. And when I woke up, I saw how his dad really was. And I separated myself,
and I learned to let myself more and put me first. There you go. How were you in the coma?
I'm happy for you. Was it abuse or what, what happened? No, no, no. When I gave birth to our son,
I slipped in the coma.
Damn.
I'm so sorry.
Now, he was out doing this thing
while you were in the coma.
I'm going to say, yeah,
because I got female calling me
and I was only home two weeks.
Still paralyzed.
Well, listen, you don't know that for sure.
You're okay?
I do know.
She said women were calling us.

Welcome to the A building.
I'm Hans Charles.
I'm Inelik Lamoma.
It's 1969.
Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr.
had both been assassinated,
and Black America was out of breaking point.
Writing and protests broke out on an unprecedented scale.
In Atlanta, Georgia, at Martin's Almemata,
Morehouse College, the students had their own protest.
It featured two prominent figures in black history,
Martin Luther King's senior and a young student, Samuel L. Jackson.
To be in what we really thought was a revolution.
I mean, people would die.
In 1968, the murder of Dr. King,
which traumatized everyone.
The FBI had a role in the murder of a Black Panther leader in Chicago.
This story is about protest.
It echoes in today's world far more than it should, and it will blow your mind.

In the middle of the night, Saskia awoke in a haze.
Her husband Mike was on his laptop.
What was on his screen would change Saskia's life forever.
I said, I need you to tell me exactly what you're doing.
And immediately, the mask came off.
You're supposed to be safe.
That's your home.
That's your husband.
To keep this secret for so many years,
He's like a seasoned pro.
This is a story about the end of a marriage,
but it's also the story of one woman who was done living in the dark.
You're a dangerous person who prays on vulnerable and trusting people.
Your creditor, Michael Leavengood.

She's in a coma.
She was in a coma.
No, he took that to it.
I'm just trying to make the best of a bad situation.
That she just walked in on.
I just walked in on.
I don't even know what the hell I'm talking about.
She says she was the problem.
And she has reason to be the problem.
I'm sorry.
Hold on.
Now, how was she the problem if she was in the coma?
Ask her.
Y'all don't be asking the right question.
Good morning.
Who's this?
They hung up on her so fast.
That should have been the first question.
If the topic is you the problem and she called in and say she was in a coma,
She said the problem first, and then she said the coma stuff, then she went into the story, then y'all walked in, we didn't get the kids.
But she went to a coma because she was the problem?
No, she said, we asked, where are you the problem?
I don't care. Good morning. Who's this? Good morning. Who's this? Hello?
Good morning. My name's Amanda.
Hey, Amanda. So you're the problem?
Yes.
What about why? Tell me, Amanda, what happened?
So, like, I've been in my relationship, but for five years, we had some issues about three years ago.
I agreed to forgive and move past. But the issue is is when I get insecure or I have a,
moment of doubt, my mouth run.
You what?
No, it's just like, my mouth runs.
Oh, got you.
I just go.
Oh.
I agree with the full past, but the insecurity sometimes gets the best of me, and that's
something I've got to work on.
So why don't you go to therapy?
And I'm glad that you know that because a lot of people love to project the
insecurities on the others.
Just go to therapy and figure that out.
So I've been, I've been looking into it, and I've been, but right now we're working on
communicating with each other, and just he's taking accountability, and he's like,
when you feel that way, come to me, we'll work it all together.
You know, and so far, every time I've done it, he's been making me feel secure.
But it's just still that insecurity sometimes gets the best to you.
I need to call that King and tell him that he might deserve better.
Not just not.
Talk it right now.
Absolutely not.
Huh?
I'm going to be the best for him that he needs.
You deserve it.
It's me.
I know that's right.
Don't try to come in away from her.
No.
Why would you say that?
No, absolutely not.
I'm very territorial.
That is mine.
Whoa.
I just want to make sure she's doing the right work, though.
I don't want her projected immisicurities on other people.
Good morning. Who's this?
Oh, my goodness. It's Dee.
Hey, Dee. Good morning, Dee. So you can admit you're the problem.
I can.
Oh, this is warming my heart this morning. All of these stuff are women. Tell us more.
You know what.
Saturday, I love you. He loves you.
I love you too, Dee. Now, tell us why you're the problem, Dee.
He loves the D. Go ahead, Dee.
Honestly, I really think it's more like my, my, my,
I don't take no crap kind of out of food, you know,
if a lot of people can't handle that,
I try to be in my song girl era,
but I mean, it's like, you gotta be to me,
you gotta, like, you don't want to be in my feminine.
You don't have to be mean.
That's the wrong approach.
Like, you know what's crazy?
You would never take that approach to work.
If you would not walk in your office and say,
I got to meet me.
You ain't wrong, because I'm nice and spy at work.
I'm the sweetest ones that my customers love me.
You know what I'm saying?
So why you do that to the people you love?
You know that when you,
if you treat the people you love,
like crap, but then you like go to work
and be smiling at people's face.
Like that's not being real.
That's just PR.
Like you just, that's PR you're doing that work.
You know, most people take out there,
whatever their frustration is through their loved ones, right?
Even if they're at work and they're having a bad day,
they take out their frustration on back at home.
So that's usually what happens.
It's because I think the love over there
is normally a lot more unconditional
than if you come at work and get crazy,
you can be put out of there.
But so why you treat the white people better
than you treat your spouse?
Oh, your significant other?
Lauren,
exactly.
I work with that.
Amanda,
Amanda,
how are you going to fix this,
Amanda?
Oh,
God.
See,
poor Amanda.
No,
I,
yeah.
Call us right now,
1,800 585,
101.
We're talking to people
who can admit that
they are the problem.
It's the breakfast club.
Good morning.
Who's this?
Damn it.
Hi, y'all.
This is Shanda.
Hey,
Shonda.
How is Shonda?
You don't sound like a problem at all.
Hey,
I'm,
I'm calling from Jersey.
Shout out Camden.
Oh, my God.
I know you the problem.
I know I am the problem.
Shut up.
Camden, it's crazy.
Like, okay.
Hey, Camden?
Tell us why you're the problem, Camden.
I know I'm the problem.
Like I said, I'm a therapy girl.
So I know that I'm the problem.
I'm working on myself.
It's mainly because of my upbringing.
I never really had good men in my life growing up.
So I don't really know what a good man is.
But I feel like I might have got one.
And I know I stress them out.
How do you shut them out?
Because she stressed them out.
Oh, my gosh.
Of course, my alarm went to go off work.
Are you crying?
No, she's not crying.
Her alarm is taking her alarm off.
Okay, can you hear me?
She lives in Camby.
Good morning.
Yes, I'm sorry about it.
I go along with off.
Yes, ma'am.
But I am the problem.
I'm working on myself.
I love my man, and I just want to let him know that.
And ladies, taking accountability will get you far because where I started off at,
I'm so far as it than where I started.
And that's good.
Yeah.
Exactly.
So I just wanted to call in.
Shout out to my man, Dre.
So maybe I'm working on it.
I'm getting it together.
And she says she's in therapy.
I want y'all to understand that.
That's amazing.
Yes, two therapies, two times a week.
Oh, my God.
Thank you.
That's beautiful, man.
Congratulations.
What's the one breakthrough you had that you know really made you realize I am the problem?
I would have to say, in a therapy session, my therapist was listing things for me.
to look out for abusers and the things that she was listed actually with me.
Wow.
And I was like, oh, wow.
Wow.
I need to work on myself.
Wow.
Thank you for, thank you for sharing.
Yeah.
Thank you.
I work with two women who probably got a lot of things on that list as well.
Good morning.
Who's this?
My name is Kiki.
Hey, Kiki.
Are you the problem?
Yes, I'm the problem.
Let's unpack this.
What you do?
What you mean?
What I do?
People say my name.
Relax.
Don't call up and projecting this morning.
Jesus.
All just asked you with.
What did you do?
Yeah.
She is definitely the problem.
Maybe rephrase the question.
Maybe ask her what happened.
What happened, Kiki?
I fell for a man that's incarcerated.
Wow.
Oh, wow.
How much time you got?
He got three more years left.
How long did y'all fall in love?
How long ago?
We're not in love.
I just like him really bad.
And I felt sorry for her.
Did you meet him when he was locked up or before?
I knew him before he was locked up.
Okay.
So you knew that he would be locked up?
Was he doing anything to?
get locked up when you met him? We were
kids. We were like in high school.
Oh, what do you know? I'm 40.
Yeah, so I'm saying, did you know
how long was he locked up did? Did you know
that he would get locked up? Was he doing anything to get
him locked up? Yes, he was. Oh, why?
So that's why I asked you what did you do?
I've just tried to be a friend
and it's just complicated.
You know when you call the radio? You're supposed to explain the story.
How big of you? Be honest with it. And don't you lie to me
this fine Friday. How big of you? Tell the truth.
I'll wait like 3.85.
God. Jesus.
Oh, my God, Kiki. No, I'm so sorry.
Oh, man. God damn.
Listen, man.
Don't clown me.
No, girl, it's okay.
I'm not clowning you. I'm here to help you this morning.
Do you say pictures of him in jail?
I mean, you know, pictures of yourself to him in jail?
Yeah.
And you'd be hitting all your angles.
Does he know?
Period.
I'm going to tell you something, man.
Forget him.
We need to, we need you to,
work on yourself. Okay? Like you need to
worry about you. Focus on you. We want
you to unlock that hidden character
that exists within you. You know what I'm saying?
Like we need you to start working out
going to the gym because the reality
of the situation is true love
starts with self-love. And you don't love
yourself. You can't truly love nobody else.
You are accepting
what God is giving you. And you would do that
at a restaurant so don't do that in relationships.
Not only that, if you watch the Super
Bowl, they got this new pill. It's like Ozempic.
You can take a pill now and it helps with
No, I don't know about that because Khalid was in that commercial.
You're right.
Yeah, but you wouldn't take, you don't supposed to take OZEP.
You can't just start taking OZEPA.
Just check with you.
She got to start doing some other stuff before she can get on the OZEPA.
My insurance will improve a lot of stuff.
For real?
Oh.
Okay.
Yeah.
Key-key.
Just go with the gym, like Sholomey said.
Maybe the gym will work, eat better, and then work on yourself.
And Jess and Lauren saying that to you, why they're eating some golden wings right now.
I finished my chicken because I just felt like I couldn't.
I need the 185, so I'm all right.
I'm going back out there for more.
But listen, you'll be, everything will work out.
Yeah, it's fine.
Kiki, thoughts and prayers, Kiki.
He locked up, you got time to figure it out.
Yeah, you got three years to get your life together.
Don't worry about that man.
No, she, no, don't, uh-uh.
Don't worry about that.
He can't love you by the house.
But Kiki on the hold, man.
However we can help Kiki, we're going to help Kiki.
Let's do it.
Sholomey, let me ask you question.
Usually when people call you, you compare them to a vehicle.
What vehicle would do that?
Why are you doing that to that girl?
You are so disrespectful.
You do it to everybody.
I'm just curious.
I do it to people.
and that's so rude to you.
Just you do.
You'd be like that's a media suburban.
Why would you do that?
That's a big of present time.
That is so messed up with you, NB.
You want you to grow up for once.
Leave people alone.
That woman with her own.
That hell is wrong with you.
You do it all the time,
but now when I ask, I'm foul, I'm wrong.
You know what vehicle I got in mind
the vehicle you used to ride
when you was in high school.
That little short bus, okay?
All right?
That's what you're just ridiculous.
You're just a ridiculous human.
You know what?
Forget it.
What's the moral of the story?
The moral of the story,
is you get the love.
We accept the love we think we deserve.
So I want everybody out there to love themselves more.
Your first, last, and best love is self-love.
That's the whole point of this topic this morning.
I want people to be aware that what they're really missing is self-love.
When you start loving yourself more, you'll go out there,
do the work on yourself to be a better person,
and you'll project that strong love on the other people,
that good love on the other people.
I love it.
All right.
Well, when we come back, we got past the Aux.
We'll be joining us and don't go anywhere as the Breakfast Club, Gamoire.
Go.
Go, go.
What's my DJ?
Say, go, DJ, because that's my DJ.
DJ, go spin, not co spin.
Nilella Simone, big Nile.
Okay, punky bruce.
Hey, girl.
Can we please retire that?
I said punky today.
I didn't say punky today.
Oh, either.
I don't know who either one are and I don't like.
Young 1990 now.
That one's cool.
That one, I like that.
I like that.
God damn, man.
That chicken looked good, man.
It looks so good.
Happy birthday.
Thank you so much.
Happy happy birthday.
It's just his birthday, but it's also about to be Valentine's Day,
so there's a lot of R&B projects that have dropped or are dropping.
Salute to Rahim Devon.
He dropped his project on Even.
But the songs that you can find on the playlist today are,
of course, I'm going to start with Jill Scott, pay you on Tuesday.
I don't want no more than blues.
You heard of me?
Yeah, me too.
Man, salute to Jill Scott, man.
The human-made concern is out right now.
Yes.
You've been loving it?
I love it.
I love that album.
Oh, my God.
No, I've been loving it, too.
But, okay, next is Brent Fias.
He just dropped his project icon,
and the record I'm going to play the other side.
Okay, Brent.
All right, this is a little different.
It is a little different.
It sounds like the weekend karaoke.
No, it doesn't.
Michael won't a weekend karaoke.
Really?
Really.
He doesn't sound like he's doing some weekend karaoke.
Yeah.
Well, you know, it's produced by Raphael Sadiq and Chad Hugo.
And I did, I felt a little feralish, like, in vocal delivery.
That's what I got.
It's jamming, though.
Yeah, it is.
I like it.
I just didn't expect to hear that from breath.
Yeah, I saw your face.
You're like, yeah, I'm like, hold up.
All right, all right.
You were getting that toxic.
Yeah, he cut that hair.
You know, you know, he cut his hand, so now he had, he has a whole change of everything.
I'm here for it.
What else we got?
There you are.
Yeah.
You should be a second to call study hall.
But what else we got?
Wow
Keep going
Keep going now
Keep going
Ignoring
My last record
Is off the LMA
Project that dropped
Last week
Salute to LMA
This project
Is definitely for
The girlies who are in love
But this record
Is called my mind
Okay Ella
You listen to the whole project
She's still talking
And
Missile them songs
You didn't like that
I like this one
Because of the boom-bap-ish beats
Yeah no no
I like
I like
I like
This kiss
That was just on that
EPE
She used to do that
Yeah
Talking between everyone, just so we know that she got the accent.
Like, girl, we know, you know what I mean?
But I ain't know.
But, yeah, I like L-A.
I said a lot of women's in how good L-M-A album was.
I haven't heard of you.
Yeah.
You should definitely tap in.
She definitely has her this weekend.
Y'all should have her up here, actually.
But those are my three.
She was supposed to be here this week, but she rescheduled.
She doesn't know.
She did she rescheduled.
Mm-hmm.
I don't know.
I see some interviews from her.
She'd be.
No, maybe she doesn't want to come to breakfast club then.
Well, if you guys like those records,
to make sure you guys follow me on Instagram
at Nila Simone, N-Y-L-A-S-Y-M-O-N-E-E-E.

The J-Cole event, Jay Cole,
and Jay Cole listening party was dope.
I seen all the photos and videos.
Dope, dope, dope, dope.
Congrats.
Thank you.
Yeah, if you guys want to watch it back,
it's on the Breakfast Club,
Twitch Live stream, Twitch channel.
How do you like the Jay Cole album?
I still have to listen.
What you mean?
You still have to listen to a Jay Cole fan.
You ain't.
I've been working.
You need to respect that mulatto, man.
Wow.
I've been working.
That's Jay Cole word.
Jay Coe said that on out.
He said, we're going to respect that mulatto.
Because I saw, you know,
well, I've been reading,
like, subsacts on Colts Project.
I think because it's so much,
noise around it. I don't want to listen to it
with all the noise. Like, I just want to listen to it at my own time when I'm cleaning my
crib because I actually want to enjoy the project. I don't want to go and
critique it like everybody else. I think it's a cool J. Cole album.
That's it. It's cool. It's calm. It's a cool J. Cole album. It's cool. Both
all of them are cool. I like this. I like 39 better than 29, but they're cool.
All right, gal. Well, that's probably because it's more relatable in age.
Probably. Yeah. Yeah, probably.
All right, Nala. So we'll see you next week. Everybody else. Let's get to the mix. It's the
breakfast club. Good morning.
It's Black History Month, so you know every day during Black History Month, my guy, B.DOT does a podcast called I Didn't Know, maybe you didn't either. And today he's going to tell you about Richard Spikes, who invented the modern gear shift. Yeah, when somebody asks you if you can drive stick, it's because of a black man.
The gear shift that changed driving forever.
Welcome back, No, at All to another episode of the most anticipated podcast on the Black Effect Podcast Network.
especially in February.
Entitled?
I didn't know.
Maybe you didn't either.
I'm your host, BDOT, and I drive an electric vehicle.
And let me tell you something.
And I'll probably never in my life return to gas-fueled vehicles again.
The EV just so clean and it's so smooth.
It's like a cheetah in the wild.
Fast, but still.
I love it.
And you don't get that gasoline smell on your hands from charging your vehicle.
Anywho, to kick off today's episode, I've got three of the most useless facts you'll never need, not a day in life.
Your first useless fact, the very first speeding ticket in history, was issued in 1896.
Yep, a man named Walter Arnold was fine for driving 8 miles per hour in a 2 mile per hour zone.
Yep, 8 in a 2.
Your second useless fact, the early cars, they didn't have steering wheels.
Now, the first cars were steered with a tiller, like a boat.
And your third useless fact, gas stations didn't even exist when cars were invented.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, car drivers bought their gas at pharmacies and hardware stores and even bakeries, usually in glass containers.
Now, for today's episode, do you have any idea who the black man Richard Spikes was and what he did to revolutionize the car industry?
Because I didn't.
Before driving,
was as normal as it is today, it was terrifying.
Early cars was hard to control, harder to stop.
Just dangerous to operate, period.
Transmission systems were plunky, turns were unpredictable, signals didn't exist.
Then came Richard Spikes.
A black inventor who didn't just improve cars, he civilized them.
Spikes made an improvement to the gear shift that made changing speeds smoother and safer.
And he patented an automatic transmission improvement that took away the need for constant manual adjustments.
And if that wasn't enough, he invented an early version of the turn signal.
You think about that.
Every safe turn you've ever made.
Every smooth gear change, every time you signal before switching lanes.
That's all Richard Spikes influence.
Not a brand name, not a logo, not a commercial.
Infrastructure, which ties back to the March in 100 and what they represent.
Excellence so deeply embedded into the system, you just stopped noticing it.
Richard Spikes didn't chase fame.
He solved problems.
And his solutions became permanent.
And that's the story of so much black innovation.
We make this world functional, man.
Black folk make the world go round.
Then the world forget who fixed it.
A whole century after Carter G. Woodson argued for documenting our systems.
Richard Spikes engineered the mechanisms we use to move through the world safely to date.
A black-built infrastructure that most people never even acknowledge.
Every time you shift gears without thinking.
Every time you signal a turn without struggle.
Every time you drive somewhere safely.
I need you to remember that a black inventor made that possible.
And I didn't know.
Maybe you didn't either.
Salute to BDOT.
Yeah, salute to my guy BDOT, man.
Make sure you go subscribe to the I didn't know.
Maybe you didn't need a podcast on the Black Effect I Heart Radio Podcast Network.
