Starting point is 00:01:36 I was pleased with myself. Yeah, Milwaukee is a great place. Good morning to you, too. I know that you miss me. Don't come in here angry. Oh, my goodness. This guy is crazy. Yes.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Yes. I'm glad. This guy is crazy. I didn't really eat good there. You didn't eat good there? It was fine. No. I went to the market again and ended up cooking.
Starting point is 00:01:55 That's good. That's a good thing. At least you know where the food came from. You cook it the way that you like it. You season it the way that you like it. Yes. That's because Jess picky. That's what it is.
Starting point is 00:02:01 It ain't that she don't like the food. She like to cook her own meals. I like for her sister to cook her own meals. There's nothing wrong with that. She don't like other people's food. That's really what it is. It ain't that she don't be liking food. She like to cook her own meals or like for her sister to cook her own meals. Ain't nothing wrong with that. She don't like other people's food. That's really what it is. Ain't nothing wrong with that. And then this weekend you in?
Starting point is 00:02:11 I'm in Connecticut, Bridgeport, Connecticut. Connecticut. At the Stress Factory, y'all. And that's a three-day weekend. That's Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So get your tickets from jessalariousofficial.com, y'all. Oh, Jessica and all. Kind of much.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Which means Sunday. Yes. Because I don't usually do Sunday. I know that. So you're going to be here Monday. I'm going to be here Monday. I don't like this envy with the mess. I don't like the envy with the mess.
Starting point is 00:02:29 I know. I know you don't. I know. I'm not going to be doing that too much. Jess, if you're ever there, lay ahead. Just want to let you know I'm not coming in. I'm like, what you mean? Who's going to do the mess?
Starting point is 00:02:35 You're doing it. Pregnant. I know. Okay. I know. He still don't like it. No. We got to do it virtually.
Starting point is 00:02:41 All right. Well, we got a special guest joining us this morning. Monica McNutt. Oh, yeah. Monica is a great sports anchor with ESPN. You see her calling the games. Yep. She starts to call the games for the Knicks, too.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Not called. I don't know what you call it. The post-analyst. She can do the post-game. Yeah, post-analyst. Basketball analyst. My guy, Kaz. That's right.
Starting point is 00:02:59 I like that. I like to see women into sports, like sports analysts and stuff like that. That's dope. Oh, yeah. She's definitely one of them. She used to play for the Georgetown Hoyas. She's a great personality. That's right.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Nice. She's going to be joining us. All right. Because the playoffs are still going on because the Mavericks won last night. Mavericks. Yeah. No, the Timberwolves won last night. Timberwolves won last night, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:14 It's in the series five games. It was still a good game, though. It was still. I wouldn't know. I was sleeping. You fell asleep? Mm-hmm. All right.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Let's get the show cracking. When we come back, we got front page news from the Black Information Network. Morgan Wood will be joining us. She'll be breaking down what's happening out there in the news. So don't move. It's the Breakfast cracking. When we come back, we got front page news from the Black Information Network. Morgan Wood will be joining us. She'll be breaking down what's happening out there in the news. So don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Well, good morning, everybody.
Starting point is 00:03:30 We are The Breakfast Club. DJ Envy, Jess Alaris, Charlamagne Tha God. Let's get in some front page news. Now, some quick sports. Last night, the Timberwolves beat the Mavericks 105-100. The Mavericks lead the series 3-1. And good morning, Morgan. Morning, morning. How y'all feeling?
Starting point is 00:03:45 How you feeling? Thanks, Morgan. Yeah, all right. Well, let's get into it. Closing arguments have ended in Donald Trump's criminal hush money case in New York. They lasted for nearly five hours with prosecutor Steinblas apologizing for trading brevity for thoroughness. The judge is set to give the jury instructions today and deliberations are expected to start around 10 a.m. this morning. Actor Robert De Niro, who is also a New York native, spoke outside the courthouse yesterday. And here's what he had to say about the former president. I don't mean to scare you. No, no. Wait, maybe I do mean to scare you. If Trump returns to the White House,
Starting point is 00:04:18 you can kiss these freedoms goodbye that we all take for granted and elections forget about it i mean robin denaro isn't wrong about anything he said yeah he was arguing with pro trump was out there he wasn't holding anything back yesterday he wasn't he called him a clown and everything and he compared like clowns in society to trump being a clown running the president i mean he being a president running the country he wasn't holding nothing back yesterday. Not at all. So keeping in mind that Trump is being charged with falsifying records before the 2016 election to high payments from adult film star Stormy Daniels. He is the first American president to stand in a criminal trial.
Starting point is 00:05:00 And he could face the four years of found guilty. They have to get this one right. I mean, if he's not found guilty, like if he beats these charges it's gonna make the other charges which are way more serious you know which is the stuff i'd actually think he should be in court for it's gonna make those look uh you know he'll be able to be able to say it's a witch hunt but they were saying they were saying that his ex attorney uh which is is pretty much their biggest i guess uh person on the stand they were saying and how can they actually trust him because he Michael Cohen, he was Trump's bully. Like he was the one that was doing everything. But now the same person that was the bully and going hard at people.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Now he turned on Trump. So they were like, how do they know that his story is actually factual? You know, how could they possibly trust that witness? You know? Yeah. They just gonna have to get this right. Because if he gets found not guilty on this one, he's going to be able to say all of the cases against him are BS.
Starting point is 00:05:44 And it's all a witch hunt. And it's to be able to say all of the cases against him are BS and it's all a witch hunt and it's all politically driven to keep him out the White House. Well, let's hope officers, or excuse me, the justice system gets this one right. Four former Memphis police officers charged with the murder of Tyree Nichols are in federal court this week. Nichols died three days after being beaten
Starting point is 00:06:00 by officers during a traffic stop on January 7th back in 2023. Demetrius Haley, Tadarius Bean, Emmett Martin II, and Justin Smith were scheduled for pretrial hearings both yesterday and today ahead of their federal hearing in September. The federal charges include one count of each of excessive force and deliberate indifference and two counts of witness tampering. On Friday, a pretrial hearing is scheduled for their state charges, which include second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct, and official oppression.
Starting point is 00:06:29 A fifth officer, Desmond Mills Jr., pled guilty to federal charges. He said, I'm out. I'm going to just go ahead and take this. Oh, yeah, all them Negroes going to jail. Keyword Negroes, okay? They do not have the complexion for the protection. You ain't even got to worry about that. Okay, speaking of negroes uh the baseball record books are about to undergo a big change according to usa today
Starting point is 00:06:50 the uh all of the former negro league players have their statistics officially incorporated into major league baseball's historical records mlb elevated negro league statistics to major league status uh back in december 2020, the addition of Negro League stats officially makes Hall of Fame catcher Josh Gibson one of the greatest of all time. Gibson, who spent his entire career in the Negro Leagues, is now MLB's new all-time career leading in batting average and slugging percentage, OPS, and holds the all-time single season records for each of those categories. Yeah, man. We'd love of those categories. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:07:25 We'd love to see it. Yeah. Drop one of those. For those Negroes. Those exceptional Negroes. What is wrong with you? What do you mean? They have exceptional Negroes in the Negro League.
Starting point is 00:07:34 So who do they take out? The Dominican players? I can't call it. Okay. All right. I'm just kidding. All right. Well, that is front page news.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Thank you, Morgan. Now, what are we talking about next hour? In the next hour, we are... What are we talking about? Don't let him put you on the spot like that, Morgan. If you ain't got it up yet, don't let him put you on the spot like that. I'll be the same way. We're going to talk about the DNC.
Starting point is 00:07:56 There you go. There you go. DNC next hour. Okay. And everybody else, get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, phone lines are wide open. Starting point is 00:08:42 Listen, Hurricane Susan starts in two days. We need to have a conversation and start talking about Trump. What you mean? What you want us to say about the hurricane? Y'all been dealing with them in Florida forever. Y'all not deal with them yet? Well, no. Now they are going all the way up to East Coast.
Starting point is 00:08:56 So it ain't just Florida now. Oh, you know what? Yeah, you're absolutely right. Everybody needs to be prepared. That's right. So as soon as we get on the hurricane watch, we will talk about it. Yeah, now it's been nasty the last couple days with the weather, but it's been getting worse. Y'all got a watch coming?
Starting point is 00:09:10 Is there one on the horizon? It was one over the weekend. Really? Yeah, it was one over the weekend. We cool for now, but I'm sure they'll be back with a vengeance. Well, let's not hope for that. Well, let's not, but... She know what's up.

Salute to everybody who listens to us on 104.5, the beat in Orlando, man. We will be here for all your hurricane updates
Starting point is 00:09:36 as soon as we get them. Hello, who's this? Hey, what's up? This is James calling from North Carolina. What up, James? What up? Get it off your chest. What? Yo, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James?
Starting point is 00:09:45 What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James? What's up, James?
Starting point is 00:09:45 What's up, James? What's up, James? people's talents, other people's labor. Any kind of dirt he did, sweep it underneath the rug, keep it out of the sight of the public, you know, and rewrite, basically rewrite history as you see fit. I mean, that's
Starting point is 00:10:18 the blueprint that the quote-unquote founding fathers did to this country. It's not just the founding fathers, it's humans. Humans throughout the world have done, you know, nefarious things to get the way they need to be. What are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:10:32 And he's a producer. He made money off of people like his artists, right? Yeah. That's what producers do. We're acting like the botry is just exclusive to America and Diddy. No, it's a global... Hey, just to break it to you, the botry is a global phenomenon, and Diddy. No, it's a global. Hey, break it to you.
Starting point is 00:10:45 The botry is a global phenomenon, yo. Hello, who's this? It's Ashley. What's good with it? I can't believe I got through. I'm calling. I just moved to Charlotte from the Bay. Man, it's so country out here, but I'm loving it.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Just hilarious. It's like a pregnancy or a maze. I saw you when you asked a lot, Jess. That's what I think she said. Thank you. You listening to my new book? Thank you. Absolutely. I love everything about you.
Starting point is 00:11:22 I'm manifesting positivity. You done got me through so much. Just listening to it and f***ing with you. I'm excited. It's DJ Izzy. What's good with your car shows? I'm trying to kind of be a vendor. I got a business that's based out of Ghana. I'm here promoting business in Ghana. Everything I made is designed by me, by people I've met on my trip to Ghana. Starting point is 00:12:34 Okay. Thank you, bro. Thank you. Salute to Ghana, man. I love Ghana, man. I moved to Ghana about a year ago. I'm going back. I got property in Ghana, though. I love Ghana, man. Beautiful place. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051.
Starting point is 00:12:49 If you need to vent, hit us up now. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. This is your time to get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. We want to hear from you
Starting point is 00:13:02 on The Breakfast Club. Hello, who's this? This is Joey Moore from Philadelphia. Hey, Joey. Good morning. Get it off your chest. All right.
Starting point is 00:13:11 First of all, good morning to you, DJ Envy. Charlamagne, I missed your book signing. I'm sorry. I'm on crutches. And Jeff Hilarious, I love you.
Starting point is 00:13:19 I love you too, baby. Where was the book signing at? Someone on Green Street. I live in Germantown. That's where it was. I'm not fucking here, but like I said. Yeah. Can I get a book later as I finish this?
Starting point is 00:13:31 Yo, send her a book, Eddie. Send your Philly people a book. Don't be disrespectful. You know exactly where that address at too, Eddie. We got you, Joey. Put your whole little second. But go ahead, mama. All right.
Starting point is 00:13:39 So anyway, with the situation with Trump, why would you vote for somebody who called people at the Capitol attack heroes? Like, what's wrong with people? Well, if you wanted those people who considered those people also heroes, you would vote for them. That's Trump. That's what he thinks. Yeah. That's what I'm saying, but that's a misconception. That was idiotic.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Oh, I agree. It wasn't patriotic. I agree. I think him saying that he wanted to take your home. Him saying he wanted to do their home ballads and do the right thing. Well, thank you for calling, Joy. Hold on so we can get you that book, okay? Thank you, DJ Envy. Y'all have a great day. You too. Hello, who's this? Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:14:35 This is Chris calling from 843. 843 Low Country. I'll be there tonight, my brother. He coming. Yes, sir. I'll be there. I'll be there. I'll be there for you all day, man. I'll be there for you all day.
Starting point is 00:14:42 You already know. Yes, sir. I just want to call and say I'm trying to come to that book signing day, man. Get one of your books, man, off you, man. I'll be there tonight. You know, they moved it to the music farm. So Blue Bicycle Books moved it to Charleston Music Farm. So I'll be there tonight at 7 p.m.
Starting point is 00:14:55 All right. That's a bet. Yeah, I had talked to one of your family members, man. I got the information from them, man. So I'll see y'all, boy, later on tonight, man. Don't be talking to them people. But no, I'll be there'all later on tonight, man. Don't be talking to them people. But no, I'll be there tonight
Starting point is 00:15:06 at 7 p.m. It's moderated by Dr. Tanya Matthews, who's the CEO of the International African American Museum and Tessa Spencer. So I'll be down there
Starting point is 00:15:14 tonight at 7 p.m. Toss the music for them. All right, I got you, man. Appreciate you, man. That's right. And I want me some boiled peanuts. When I come back up here
Starting point is 00:15:21 with some boiled peanuts, don't y'all ask me for none. Oh my God, I thought you said you want a boiled penis. I i was like i like my penis fried i like my peanuts boiled what are you talking about oh my god kinky this morning all right get it off your chest 800-585 he got ready like okay jack all right now we got just with the mess coming up what we talking about yes rolling Stone did an exclusive on Diddy.
Starting point is 00:15:46 He had 50 friends that came forward with him. Damn it. Well, they ain't friends if they came forward. We'll get to it next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. All right.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Good morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Just Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Now, let's get to Just With The Mess. News is real. We're just friends. Just a robin' more. Just let's get to Jess with the mess. News is real. We're in the flames. Jessica Robin Moore. Jess don't do no lying.
Starting point is 00:16:08 Jess don't do no lying. She don't scare nobody. She don't scare nobody. Roll wide, Jess. Roll wide, mess. She don't scare nobody. On The Breakfast Club. She's a culture shitter.
Starting point is 00:16:19 She was able to get y'all to see something and understand something that nobody could get you to see it's time to set it off all right y'all so i know i teased diddy but because i don't want to be wrong because they always say i'm wrong okay i wanted to get a lot more time to get the situation all under you know under wraps makes it so that stay tuned for that in a seven hour but right now social media reacts to entree 3000 so he was playing at a jazz festival over the weekend in atlanta i didn't know that it was an actual jazz festival i thought he was up there with like real pros like it's a festival and so when i heard it i was like oh it's not that bad that's this concert whole time this man was playing at a jazz festival what's crazy is the
Starting point is 00:17:03 audio and the reason why I'm stressing it is the festival is because it's got to be a little bit better. This is what he did. You can't kill it now. All right. That's the sound at the festivals, clearly. The acoustics was messed up. It sounded like they need a better sound system.
Starting point is 00:17:38 Yeah, I understand. One person on social media said, Never listen to rap fans about what jazz should sound like andre just needs better acoustics so to charlamagne point that's what somebody said um i've heard jazz live before and um yeah acoustics definitely matters i mean it's a wide open space you outside you know it's a festival but i have heard like real live jazz festivals before with not really great acoustics and it was it was better than that meanwhile another person compared to his uh performance compared his performance it's an episode of martin where hustle man attached
Starting point is 00:18:15 uh his kazoo to the sex the saxophone all right here we go so it sounded bad was he the only one that sounded like that or was his performance just like that or what did everybody that was performing at night the acoustics pretty bad listen they only shadowed him so that's the point yeah and the other problem is it is a jazz show. They do that show every year, but he's not up there doing jazz. Like, I've been to an Andre 3000 flute show. I went to Andre 3000's show where he was playing the flute. I loved every minute of it. The sound was great.
Starting point is 00:18:58 They had a light show. They had the smoke going in the building. And y'all Negroes don't deserve words. But was there everything? Damn, calm down. Was there anything else besides the flute though no it's a hundred three thousand flute show i know but did he have any other anything else planned like because he had a band with him yeah he has a band with him so i felt like he could have had other people you know he
Starting point is 00:19:18 could have had his band out there it was just him playing a flute he just pulled up yeah he just pulled up with the flute went up there sat in the chair and just did his thing did he get booed or no? No, no, no, nobody pulled him. What makes the whole thing funny is that in an interview with CBS CBS more than Dre He admitted that he just be going with the flow when he plays so this we say like I don't even know what notes I'm playing so everything every move for me is New which is kind of crazy, but it feels great to do it because when you find things you're like oh it's like a reward for searching so when you're comparing it to jazz i guess okay it's like uh but it's a feeling to him he said he don't really know what he's a vibe you gotta go see
Starting point is 00:19:58 it when he does it live man there's one i don't want to tell the show because i don't know if this is part of his show because he said he go with the flow but there was one to tell the show because I don't know if this is part of his show. Like you said, he go with the flow. But there was one part of the show where he just started going. He just started going. And the audience was reacting to it. And he goes, I ain't say nothing just now. I just made all that up. See? But he had y'all in the vibe.
Starting point is 00:20:17 It was a vibe. I loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And you was probably the main one acting like you knew what he said. The only thing I wish, I wish one thing at his show. What? I wish I was high. Oh, you wasn't high?
Starting point is 00:20:27 No, the lights was going and the smoke was going and the flute had just a nice, peaceful vibe. Like, I was zoned out. But that was more intimate, though, wasn't it? That wasn't like a big, you know, so I feel like things like that should be. Yeah, flute show was definitely intimate.
Starting point is 00:20:42 You gotta come high, get in the vibe. You know what I'm saying that's what's up do yourself a favor and go see Andre 3000 show up if you can what's it called
Starting point is 00:20:51 the blue I can't remember right now the new blue sun toy that's what it's called nice new blue sun toy okay Snoop Dogg
Starting point is 00:20:57 thanks Kendrick and Drake during episode no during a recent appearance on Entertainment Tonight Snoop Dogg was asked how he felt about the beef between Drake and Kendrick, and that's what he had to say.
Starting point is 00:21:09 I want to give both of them a shout out for raising the bar as far as lyrics, as far as song making and writing, because the writing has been upped since the confrontation or whatever you call it, whatever they went through. Those are my nephews. I'm not in the middle of it. I support both of them,
Starting point is 00:21:26 and that's personal business, not my business. But as far as what they did for the industry and the rap game, they made you rap again. You can't just mumble your way and gimmick your way to a song no more, buddy. So thank y'all. And I do agree with that.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Like, he did definitely. Made people look at lyrics. Yeah, yeah, definitely. They went from bars to allegations. So, yeah. I disagree with all y'all. What you mean? There'll be a mumbling rapper popping right now.
Starting point is 00:21:52 Y'all was in the club this weekend listening to mad mumbling rappers. Knock it off. You was? No, I wasn't, but I'm sure mad people were. You know what I'm saying? Like, what are you talking about? People are looking in the lyrics, though. They look in the lyrics.
Starting point is 00:22:04 They've never looked Away from lyrics They just like the mumble rap too I don't know why we act Like the two can't coexist But they got Sektik, Kendrick and Drake A lot more than they usually
Starting point is 00:22:13 Do with any rapper That's not I mean it was disses So they were listening But they weren't listening For lyrics They were listening for the tea You know what I'm saying
Starting point is 00:22:20 Don't say things like that If I tell you right now Tell me one of the Drake or Kendrick's Most fire bars What would you say A minor You see what I'm saying? Don't say things like that. If I tell you right now, tell me one of the Drake or Kendrick's most fire bars, what would you say? A minor. You see what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:22:28 Oh, my God. That's just too early. But if you listen to something like Meet the Grams, Kendrick was really snapping. If you listen to something like Family Matters, Drake was really snapping. They were really saying some dope-ass bars. People don't remember that.
Starting point is 00:22:40 They remember the T. No, I like the Colin Oser line. When he broke it down, he named all the rappers and how he was making them last verse yeah that last verse i'm not like us i like that okay and then uh dang well snoop dogg wife she's opening up a strip club it's gonna it's gonna be called the players club y'all it's the grand opening takes place this week dj drama will be on the set along with DJ Sky. Hi, baby. And guest appearances
Starting point is 00:23:08 are Tiffany Haddish, Too Short, Big Boy, and Cedric the Entertainer. So congratulations to Boss Lady Entertainment, Shante Broadus. That's right.
Starting point is 00:23:18 Drop on the clue box, Shante Broadus. That's what's up. That's what we call Players Club. I know that's right. Oh, and the carpet is going to be bleak.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Like, ain't no red carpet. We knew that. I love when your pregnancy brain kick in during the middle of the story. Because it be pregnancy brain and a little bit of hate because you pregnant and you want to go to the club. So you looking at it like, damn, why am I talking about something I can't attend right now? Yeah. That's just what the mess for the first hour. Thank you, Jess.
Starting point is 00:23:40 Now, when we come back, Morgan Wood has front page news. So don't go anywhere. And then don't forget Monica McNutt, basketball analyst for ESPN, will be joining us at the Breakfast Club. Good morning. You're checking out the Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get in some front page news. Good morning, Morgan. Good morning, Morgan. The Democratic National Committee will hold a virtual roll call to nominate President
Starting point is 00:24:06 Biden as the party's nominee before the Democratic National Convention in August. Now, the move is to ensure that Biden can get on the ballot in Ohio. The timing of the Democratic Convention conflicted with the state's deadline to certify the party's presidential nominee. Now, Democrats need to certify Biden by August 7th in
Starting point is 00:24:22 Ohio, but the convention kicks off on August 19th. Ohio, but the convention kicks off on August 19th. Republican lawmakers in the state have been reluctant to pass the bill to shift the deadline without a vote on unrelated campaign finance legislation. Meanwhile, several community groups are trying to get the attention of local and national officials before the convention comes to Chicago this summer. Dozens of protesters rallied outside of the 18th District Police Station in Chicago to express their thoughts. Here's one of them. There are tens of thousands of people will be in Chicago to march on the Democratic National
Starting point is 00:24:53 Convention to tell the Democrats no business as usual. We will not be bullied into voting for a party that's supporting a genocide. Now, after the rally, those groups, the group of protesters, they marched to Governor Pritzker's house and said they will be ramping up their political pressure as August and the DNC approaches. Moving on, a young girl's reaction is going viral after her mother was accused of stealing
Starting point is 00:25:16 a pair of Montclair glasses in New York. Let's roll the audio on that, and here's a trigger warning, too. The child is disgruntled. She's pretty upset. This is my mother! I love the 4-H-D of mother F-B-R-Y! ...sun glasses, a gray top, and she had a dharma bag. The CV gave a description of a female black with long brain with the white
Starting point is 00:25:46 i think he went back to the store what classes did i steal from mount clinton mommy i know who it was what classes did i steal thank you stop recording it now you should not be recording it without our permission thank you i know connie ain't gonna use that for a sample. Yeah. Nah. And being more serious, that, yo, she didn't even fit the description. She got a ponytail. She had gray on. Yeah. She didn't have white on. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:12 And that, yeah, that little, that baby was wilder for her mom. Upset. As she should have. Yeah. Because she was like, my mom didn't steal it. And they didn't find glasses on her. So I don't understand why they even put her in the police car. She still went to jail.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Yeah. You got to think, dude, that's horrible. That little kid, the trauma that little kid got to experience because that little kid probably has seen or heard things on the news, you know, of people being killed at the hands of police officers or being assaulted at the hands of police officers. Or maybe she's been through it before. Or maybe she's been through it before. But either way, you could tell that that triggered her in a real way. She got to live with that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:43 She was shouting expletives at the officer. Her mother seemed unf live with that. She was shouting expletives at the officer. Her mother seemed unfazed by that. But to your point, if you get into that point of rage, yeah, you've been through some things. That's right. But you would have to understand, if she's in the store with her mom,
Starting point is 00:26:56 and maybe she said, I seen who stole. It wasn't my mother. It was somebody else. And you arrested my mom. You put her in cuffs. You embarrassing my mom in public, going through her stuff. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Very traumatizing protection of them then they probably told the little girl don't snitch because she saw who did it but don't want to say nothing so now she's super conflicted oh she did yeah she said i know who did it i know who did it oh okay congratulations they said her aunt did it. Her aunt stole it. So they was with her. He'll shut up. Man, come on, man. So she was with him. Stop it, man. Cut it out, man. So hold on.
Starting point is 00:27:30 The aunt stole it? Why they ain't arrest the aunt? Allegedly. Allegedly. We don't know what that... Do they look alike? The aunt probably got away. Them glasses.
Starting point is 00:27:38 All right, I'll see y'all back in the house. Maybe the aunt got white and braids, but the lady that they had in cuffs didn't definitely have on white and braids. Do the sisters look alike? I don't know, but aunt got white and braids, but the lady that they had in Cubs didn't definitely have on white and braids. Did the sisters look alike? I don't know, but she didn't have braids. Boy, I know that is a hell of a conversation
Starting point is 00:27:48 they're having at the house because the aunt is like, what you telling on me for? Why you telling the police I did it? I ain't nothing to do with it. Why you got mommy locked up? Exactly.
Starting point is 00:27:56 That's right. So you don't know how we used to get down. I used to steal for your mama. Your mama used to steal for me. We go back and forth. That's what we do. How you think you got them glasses,
Starting point is 00:28:07 them outfits? You know what I'm saying? Oh, my God. I hate y'all. Allegedly. Allegedly. Allegedly, of course. And in health-related news,
Starting point is 00:28:15 anybody got any tattoos? Well, apparently, if you get a tattoo, that can increase the risk of developing lymphoma, which is a type of blood cancer. A new study out of Sweden found that people
Starting point is 00:28:24 who had a tattoo of any size, it only has to be one, had a 21% higher risk of getting the blood cancer. Now, the risk was highest among those who got their first tattoo within the past two years. So maybe there's some new ink out there or something. God, this is actually great for me because my son, who's about to be 21, wants a tattoo.
Starting point is 00:28:44 He's been trying trying and my wife is like no you can't get it he's like but dad got one and he's like yeah but be better than your father right but this is good i can come on with this i'm like you want cancer bro yeah do you want cancer do you want lymphoma do you want to die i'm gonna go hard at him today oh thank you you're welcome i'm morgan wood that's your front front page news You can follow me On social media At Morgan Media M-O-R-G-Y-N-M-E-D-I-A And check out more
Starting point is 00:29:09 Of my news coverage At Black Information Network And BINews.com I'm about to text Logan right now Morgan Alright now When we come back
Starting point is 00:29:17 Monica McNutt Will be joining us She's a basketball analyst For ESPN She used to play For the Georgetown Hoyas And we're going to Talk to her next
Starting point is 00:29:24 So don't move It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Good morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Alaris, Charlemagne the Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We got a special guest in the building. Yes, indeed. We have Monica McNutt. Welcome. Hi, guys.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Monica is a sports reporter, analyst, host, right like all of the above we're missing we're working um cycle instructor on the side okay and you know just trying to take care of my mental is my chicken shout out to marshawn now let's talk can we talk some sports for a little bit some sports let's let's talk about monica first can we get to know monica before we get into the sports okay know, she played basketball in college for the Georgetown Hoyas. I did, I did. Why did you stop playing?
Starting point is 00:30:07 You know what? Okay, so, I was very realistic, right? And I remember saying to my dad, like, I don't want to be 28 coming back from overseas and being at
Starting point is 00:30:16 entry-level positions. I don't live with a bunch of regrets, y'all, but it is the one thing that I do regret not even trying to see if I could stick on a roster in the W.
Starting point is 00:30:23 I had so much respect for the craft. I didn't think I was good enough. And frankly, I was ready to put my energy elsewhere. Basketball was like third grade every Saturday, every summer. You know what I'm saying? That commitment.
Starting point is 00:30:32 And so it was kind of like, all right, I'm ready to do something else. So I did not attempt to go pro. I immediately began my foray into media. Do you think you could have went pro? Do you think you could have went pro seeing everybody the way they played and knowing the way that you play? I graduated 2011. I think I could have made a roster. I don't know if I would have stuck for the entire season, if I'm honest. everybody that the way they played and knowing the way that you play i graduated 2011 i think i
Starting point is 00:30:45 could have made a roster i don't know if i would have stuck for the entire season if i'm honest the w is just that tough it's just that tough now how did you get to being an analyst and reporter um so when i graduated in 2011 we lost the yukon ironically in philly and at the press conference final press conference i'm like yo like my career over. I'm trying to get into media. What's up? And a couple of folks in the audience actually gave me cards
Starting point is 00:31:08 and connected. And I think I'm very thankful to my parents. Advocating for myself has been something that I have never struggled with courtesy of my parents. And so all along the way,
Starting point is 00:31:16 I'm meeting these people and letting them know what I wanted to do. I actually ended up being at a Washington Post event and sitting in front of the director of the Philip Merrill College
Starting point is 00:31:23 of Journalism or sports program for sports journalism at University of Maryland. Again, advocating for myself. He's like, come check out our journalism program. At the time, I didn't know who he was. Turned out to be George Solomon. That gets the wheel rolling in me in terms of opportunities to learn the craft of journalism, study it, be able to go and perform in various mediums and then take my basketball passion
Starting point is 00:31:43 and basketball knowledge and merge the two. So 2013, I graduated from grad school and just just kind of been pushing ever since was there any uh body that inspired you to want to get into broadcast journalism uh robin roberts like i was a 90 1996 97 wmba foundational years um robin roberts was still working on the call at that point and i just remember seeing her and then following her to espn and sports center and obviously on the gma like it was like yo like that's me like i could do that and so i think robert roberts is probably my first muse in the space and then i would say somebody like doris burke probably does the stigma still exist that women don't know sports 100 it's it's changing um but it's definitely still out there and i'll be honest y'all for me
Starting point is 00:32:22 it was so funny this week monday first take first take, Stephen A., Shannon, all those guys. And Stephen A. has to take this moment to address this whole thing with Jalen Brown, right? And I am listening. And I'm like, dang, this man been in the industry 25-plus years, well-respected. And he's still having to clarify. And so for me, you know, less than 10 years in, at least doing that show and on that platform, it was this, that's just the nature of the beast moment. Because I'm like, I didn't say that. When people are tweeting stuff at me,
Starting point is 00:32:49 I didn't say that. That's completely out of context. And so I think you learn and you build the scar tissue, the tough skin to deal with it because it's just the nature of the beast. I do understand differently. We forget fan is short for fanatic. And so sometimes when I'm engaging, I'm like,
Starting point is 00:33:03 all right, is this misogynistic BS or is this just a crazy fan right and you gotta be able i don't want to say hold space but you gotta be able to navigate both because there is still a sentiment out there that women just don't know what they're talking about and for me i'm like look we don't have to agree that's the nature of the beast that's the nature of human experience but don't be nasty for no reason that's my only thing now i gotta ask you uh wmba let's do it there's been a lot of conversation recently about the wmba things have changed in the last year but i think people wanted more and and i see them starting to talk more and more and more and more trash right uh caitlyn clark for for example right you know she's doing well scoring 22 points that's difficult like this is top level basketball but people wanted more they wanted
Starting point is 00:33:43 her like what she did in college. And they're saying that this could actually hurt the WNBA. What's your thoughts on that? So, two things can be true. And this is why the run-up to Kaitlyn getting drafted and becoming a pro was so fascinating to watch for those of us that have been in the space, right? She's dynamic. She has changed the game. She's worthy of all the contracts, the dollars, the rising tide raises, all ships, whatever.
Starting point is 00:34:04 Although there is trajectory of the WNBA in in the last four years some of these things were going to happen anyway but the w is also tough it's 144 of the best women in the world period not in the united states in the world and so she is fine and talented and will be okay and there's also going to be a curve and i think that's what we're seeing in real time you don't get drafted number one because the team just won a championship. The team is struggling, right? And the Fever have struggled since they won a championship
Starting point is 00:34:29 with Tamika Catches. I think that was 2016. So they're trying to get back to the promised land, so to speak. I think the hope is, okay, we're turning in to watch Caitlyn.
Starting point is 00:34:37 I'm learning about the Connecticut Sun. I'm learning about the LA Sparks. I'm learning about the Las Vegas Aces. These other teams that I now want to follow.
Starting point is 00:34:43 That's the hope. Now, the reality, I literally had this conversation a week ago with one of my bosses. Is that fan base for her going to hang on while the fever continue to struggle? Now, I can't answer that. I can already see growth in her first, what, two weeks, a month of the season. But I hope that
Starting point is 00:34:57 the eyeballs that she's bringing are about women's sports at large and not just her. And that encourages and boosts the WNBA at large. I've never rooted for a white woman so much in my life. Okay. Because she has to be successful. I feel like, you know, the more success she has,
Starting point is 00:35:14 the more success women's basketball is going to have. Like, people should want her to succeed. Like, I don't, it's kind of weird to see people rooting against her. So, first of all, let's, Charlamagne and Envy, let's unpack that. Who is, who is Chuck talking to the other day? Like, who is Chuck talking to? Stop hating. Oh, yeah, yeah. It's the that. Who is Chuck talking to the other day? Like, who is Chuck talking to? Stop hating. Oh, yeah, yeah. It's the internet.
Starting point is 00:35:27 Who is he talking to, right? Now, if you're talking to the internet, make that clear. Because I have talked to WNBA players. I've talked to her teammates in Indiana. Like, folks are excited and thrilled. But the idea that the WNBA has to play kumbaya and not compete. Like, whoever said, I'm blank. Was it Jeff T that said y'all shouldn't be competing because you want to make her look good i don't know i said one of the podcasts i say say that right this clip
Starting point is 00:35:48 like cut it out cut it out like at the base at the foundation of this it is competition and that is beautiful and worthy of celebration if you're listening you don't know what she's talking about uh he was saying that that wmba should fall back off before let her score let her score 30 40 the first two years and get more people involved and then play hard on her. But I'm like you. It's competition. I want to show that I can defend her. I want to show that when she comes into my city, that she's scoring two points.
Starting point is 00:36:12 Also, that's an insult to her. She's a competitor. She's going to go do what she's got to do. Do not give this any real rational space in your head. Don't even do it. I'm like, Jeff might not be a little all. He might not be wrong. Because he was saying, let her go crazy for two years.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Get more people involved. You know people, especially little white girls, want to go see her. It's not like she's not getting shots. Come on, y'all. She's going to be fine. To me, if I'm her, that's an insult. That's an insult. And it's only been, what, five games?
Starting point is 00:36:40 I got to double check. Something like that. Yeah, five or six games. I've seen her score 20 a few times. But I'm looking at everything else she's doing she's getting a ball cut down on the turnovers but yeah she looked like she's doing she gonna be she's doing the thing quite as his cap I don't I shouldn't say quite as his cap but it just hasn't been as much of a national headline but her comrade in that class Angel Reese has been
Starting point is 00:36:59 off to a rock and roll right like she Angel is hooping and I'll be the first to say that in college I was like ah how's this going to translate in terms of position but the work ethic the energy get into the glass like the toughness all of those things are translated and i'm really excited for her this rookie class is dope and i think the timing of it um is really unique in terms of the growth of women's sports at large and then you have these personalities that you can latch on to and really root for and they are cool sharing their lives which is super dope so it's a beautiful combination so right now you're rookie of the year so far as injuries uh in terms of product i mean both of those teams are struggling i haven't
Starting point is 00:37:33 even thought about we're getting real charlamagne it's so it's so early my big thing going into the conversation of rookie of the year though is whose numbers are going to impact their team's overall improvement so right now you would give a slight edge to Chicago. Both of those teams are struggling. Well, I shouldn't say struggling. They're still young. They're still building. But you would probably give a slight edge to Chicago right now. And Cardoza not even.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Yeah, she had a shoulder thing. She's getting back. All right, we got more with Monica McNutt. When we come back, don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, we are The Breakfast Club. We're still kicking it with Monica McNutt,
Starting point is 00:38:01 basketball analyst for ESPN and more. And I also got to ask, you know, people have been complaining about the refs in the NBA recently. And they're saying they make bad calls and this, that, and the other. What are your thoughts on the refs in the NBA? I think refereeing is a thankless job. Your best case scenario is we say nothing about you. Right? I tell them the Pacers complained 78 times.
Starting point is 00:38:20 It's like, that's crazy. In one game? Yes. I think between game two and three they sent 78 clips to the league office wow rick carlisle popped a 35 000 flying for his post-game press conference after game two and in game three in indiana the tenor of the game was a little different that was worth every series yes that's why i think they won that game okay we're gonna we're gonna keep moving uh officiating definitely has room to improve and it's just a matter of consistency complete accident was it jalen brunson kicks t.j mcconnell in the
Starting point is 00:38:49 head everybody listening j.j reddick uh mike green george burke like by rule this is gonna be a flagrant one unintentional but you kick the dude in the face the crew ruled that it was just a regular foul like it was like oh and so i think there is consistency by the letter of the law that is missing and that probably be my biggest gri there is consistency by the letter of the law that is missing. And that probably be my biggest gripe. And who's the face of the league right now? You look at some of the biggest stars in the league. They didn't make the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:39:12 Well, out the playoffs, I should say. LeBron, you're talking Curry. You're talking Kevin Durant. These guys out. So who is the face of the league? And we've only been debating this for like three weeks on television. I still think that those guys, when you think NBA, you think of the Giannis, KD, Steph, and LeBron still first in my mind.
Starting point is 00:39:32 But I do think we are witnessing a changing of the guard. But then you got Kyrie who's going off alongside Luka, right? They love Kyrie now. They totally changed. Listen, Michael Jordan is the face of the NBA. Okay. And you know how you know Michael Jordan is the face of the NBA? Because even the greatest players that are still playing right now know how you know Michael Jordan is the face of the NBA because even the greatest players that are still playing right now still get
Starting point is 00:39:47 compared to Michael Jordan. Anthony Edwards is still getting compared to Michael Jordan right now. LeBron James, if he was in the playoff, they would say he's still chasing Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan is the face of the NBA, guys and gals. Okay. I don't know if
Starting point is 00:40:04 I agree with that, but but sure I understand your logic I think the face of the league is such a it's a loaded question right because so much of it is also like wanting to and so in terms of the guy that's front facing a vocal is definitely Steph and LeBron in terms of like they're gonna capture all of these deals regarding the league they're gonna wear mics that you know they're gonna be strategic and everything that they're doing I don't know if there's anybody that seems to embrace it quite the way they do until you turn around and got Ant Edwards. But I will say this.
Starting point is 00:40:28 I like Ant Edwards, though. I love Ant. He's honest. He comes from a side of almost more like an Iverson approach. I don't give a f*** about none of y'all. I'm going to say what I got to say, and it is what it is. And then if you talk back to me, I'm going to try to dunk on you. By the way, I like Anthony Edwards, too.
Starting point is 00:40:43 But it feels like once those Jordan talks really started to heat up for that week, his performances didn't match. So this is year one, though. I feel you on that. But this is year one. I'm going to say this baby. This young man, this athlete, this star.
Starting point is 00:40:56 You know you're a black woman. This baby. I mean, he's never been this far. And to me, he looks absolutely cooked and fatigued in this series. So I think he has time. The question around him has been, is he the new face of the league? I don't think he's there yet. But like you said, the MJ comps, the personality,
Starting point is 00:41:12 all of these things are reasons for folks to tune in. And so I think he's got, he's 22, y'all. He's got plenty of time and plenty of runway. But I think knocking out the defending champs in the way that they did, that made that very exciting. And talking trash all along the way, please. I got to ask about one more Knick question. What do the Knicks need to do for next year?
Starting point is 00:41:30 They've been talking about do they trade Randall? Do they keep Randall? Do they bring somebody else in? What should we do? So hear me out. I'm listening. I think people forgot what this team could look like healthy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:42 Right? Mitch Robinson goes down in October. Julius goes down at the end of January. OG misses a month-ish down the stretch of the regular season. You get to the postseason, OG's still dealing with the injury stuff, and then obviously it ends with the Jalen Hand thing, right? Julius was a 25-9 guy. All-star, right?
Starting point is 00:42:00 All-NBA. Mitchell Robinson was having the best season to date before going down with that foot injury. And then when he did get healthy, he was productive until he got hurt again in that Philly series. I actually would be okay if this team stood its ground and ran it back. Healthy. But to me, the culture has to be protected.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Y'all, I know y'all heard all the conversation about Tibbs. I was, I like wanted to kick anybody in the face that wanted to talk to me about Tibbs in minutes. Like, stop it. Say Tibbs worked. Come on, y'all. Like, we're trying to win. Y'all want to count minutes?
Starting point is 00:42:26 Y'all want Ws? Like, what are we doing? So if they're going to add, I think that front office has earned tremendous respect with the trade that they made to get OG and Precious to chew him. And even the two guys out of Detroit were beneficial down the stretch. They deserve respect. To me, you got to get a guy that fits the Tibbs system. You got to be able to play. You want to play on both sides of the floor.
Starting point is 00:42:42 And the ball can't really stick. I think the misconception is that the ball has to stick with jaylen jaylen to me is an incredible high basketball like you got yes he's gonna get his buckets but if you gave him somebody that also was drawing a double team which is tip's favorite thing to say like he's gonna pass the rock he's gonna get off of it because he's a winner um so i would actually be okay if they ran it back and they were healthy but whoever it is you got to be a real hooper and not in the nba because of the lifestyle and you just happen to be talented. Devin Booker, they've been saying.
Starting point is 00:43:06 What's your thoughts? Don't love that. Two ball dominant. And what are we doing on the other side of the ball? I just don't love that one. Bronny. Bronny? I mean, I see where you're going there, right?
Starting point is 00:43:15 Bronny. I do see where you're going. Look, that is the – literally Monday. Should LeBron James test for the agency? Sincerely, right? Two places in my mind. Philly has the money. They could actually do it. And everybody's like, he ain't going to Philly. Ain't no chance. And then in terms of Brandon's
Starting point is 00:43:30 thought power, like it ain't no place like New York. I don't think that's realistic, but that's a guy. You don't question his work ethic. You don't question his availability. Like, he going hoop when he went. As long as he's healthy, he going hoop. Is Bronny ready for the league? I have not watched Bronny enough, so I can't say. But I do appreciate that. I think my favorite thing in this process, as the highlights have come down from the combine, was his can't say. But I do appreciate that. I think my favorite thing in this process,
Starting point is 00:43:45 as the highlights have come down from the combine, was his player comps. Like, he was honest. Like, he's like, these are the kind of guys. I love Davion Mitchell. Like, they called him off-night in college because when he guards, the other guys have off-nights. And that comp was one of my favorites.
Starting point is 00:43:58 Obviously, Derek White, I think, was a guy he mentioned as well who's had a tremendous path to get to where he is now with the Celtics as they head to the finals. So I liked that he was in touch, and he wasn't delusional in that way. I don't question that the young man is willing to work. This draft class might be the opportunity that makes most sense because you're not talking about a Victor Wimbyama, a Zion, or a Ja. I think you can get ready.
Starting point is 00:44:17 You know what I'm saying? And if he has the opportunity, his dad is LeBron. He's going to tell you what you need to do in terms of the work. And not just from the nepotism side, but literally from the work because that's one thing LeBron. He's going to tell you what you need to do in terms of the work. And not just from the nepotism side, but literally from the work. Because that's one thing LeBron has never cheated. Caitlyn Clark versus Bronny James one-on-one. I'm going to say Caitlyn off of go women, but also... Can they play horse?
Starting point is 00:44:35 Horse, I'm saying Caitlyn. Okay. Yeah, because she's going to give you stuff crazy shots. I think one-on-one, Caitlyn would take them. I have not watched Bronny close enough, I can't say. Okay, okay. But in my head, a little more athleticism there. That could be problematic.
Starting point is 00:44:48 What are your early thoughts? You look like you're about to get a boss in Dallas. Great cities. I'm happy about that. I mean, I'm sad for many. One of my homeboys is part of the many organization. But this is going to be a great series, y'all. The security guard downstairs was like, who you got?
Starting point is 00:45:01 And I was like, bro, I'm not ready to make picks yet. I'm not ready to make picks. I really feel like this is Boston's year. Dallas been playing, though. Dallas been balling. Dallas has been balling against a defense that can't deal. Boston has the pieces to deal. That's right.
Starting point is 00:45:15 Right? Like, Drew Holiday, defensive player of the year, Rudy Gobert, like, respect it. But in terms of most versatile defenders, like, if that was a separate award, Drew Holiday, OG Ananobi, like, type of dudes that can guard 1-5. Who stops Kyrie? The team. It's a collective. But listen to me. If they're running pick and roll, right? Drew got switched with the other three guards, right?
Starting point is 00:45:34 Tatum, Brown, White. That ain't easy. Now, I'm not saying Kyrie still might not finish with 30, and I'm not saying Luka not going to hit some crazy shots, but they also got to go down to the other end, and they're going to have to defend as a collective. Now, Dallas' defense has been a lot better
Starting point is 00:45:46 than I think folks gave it credit for, particularly after those trades. And I love the hunger that P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford have brought to that team coming from organizations
Starting point is 00:45:54 that wasn't doing nothing. But at the same time, like, the chess match of this might very well come down to Missoula and Jason Kidd on the sideline. You got Drew Holiday who has won.
Starting point is 00:46:02 You got Kyrie who has won. Both won alongside big-time, Faces of the League type of guys, respectively. So there's an experience there. As a collective, Boston been to a few finals, a couple at this point, right? So, like, they get it. And as much as Kyrie's experience is powering the Mavs,
Starting point is 00:46:20 like, what does the rest of that group look like on the biggest stage, assuming that they're going to get there? We don't count Minnesota all the way out until they're all the way out. But I'm excited for this finals. I'm really excited for this finals. And this finals, if the conference finals end in five, like, this is going seven. This is going to be so much fun.
Starting point is 00:46:36 Kyrie the villain. Back of the team that he was once a part of. You know, he might be tripped off on the logo. Right? I mean, KP. If Chris Stasperzingis gets healthy, he was in Dallas at one point. Yeah. Like this.
Starting point is 00:46:48 I'm excited for this one. All right. We got more with Monica McNutt when we come back. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Good morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious.
Starting point is 00:46:55 Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. We're still kicking it with Monica McNutt. You know her basketball analyst. She works for ESPN. Question. What is your thoughts on the gambling of the NBA now? I hate it.
Starting point is 00:47:07 I just think it's dangerous. And even this year when the Porter kid had his episode, I just was like, I understand making an example. But literally, whether it's insert gambling property here, the tagline of the commercial is the side effects. And if you need help, call 1-800-GAMBLING. So now we're going to act like we're not presenting something that comes with a cautionary tale. And now this're going to act like we're not presenting something that comes
Starting point is 00:47:25 with a cautionary tale and now this dude gets no grace? I felt like that was incredibly unfair. He was the example though. He was the example. He wasn't a big player
Starting point is 00:47:32 where it would hurt. He was the example. I feel you Envy but you really going to roll this out with the caution tape and then I have no grace. Because they wouldn't
Starting point is 00:47:41 do that to Envy's point. They wouldn't do that to a superstar. Absolutely not. Then you have zero grace? Like, if this actually could turn into a problem, we just going to skip
Starting point is 00:47:50 the part that you might have a problem and you just got to be the example? Yeah. I thought that that was heavy-handed and unfair. I do get it, though,
Starting point is 00:47:55 but I thought it was heavy-handed and unfair. In general, it's also changing the dynamics between these players and fans in such a crazy way. I hate it because now you got fans in there
Starting point is 00:48:04 talking about, one more basketball, leave my play. One more basketball. now you got fans in there talking about, one more basket, I need my parlay. One more basket. Come on. You know what I mean? One more rebound, I got to get my parlay.
Starting point is 00:48:10 It's like, what? Come on. Like, I love my cousin. Clueless about sports, sending me parlays, talking about something girl, I'm trying to win a little dollar.
Starting point is 00:48:17 I'm like, I cannot. I cannot. Like, and I get it, like engaging, more money for the league, all that good stuff, but I really think we are entering
Starting point is 00:48:24 very murky space, particularly college space. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like, like, engaging, more money for the league, all that good stuff. But I really think we are entering very murky space, particularly college space. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like, mm-mm, I'm not a fan. Is it true that you got engaged and knocked your fiance's phone in the water? What happened? Yes, that is true. But you said he was recording?
Starting point is 00:48:39 No, no, no. I didn't knock it in the water. We were in Grenada. Some of our best pictures have come on self-timer. And he timed it and got on one knee on a self-timer. Then the wave came and knocked the phone over. So before I could say yes, I was like, your phone? And he's like, is that yes?
Starting point is 00:48:53 And I'm like, yeah, but your phone. We need that. It was a really fun, great moment, good story. You didn't look at that as a sign? Like, oh my God. Was that God? I did not look at that as a sign. I was like very shocked in the moment. No, no chance that that as a sign. I was like very shocked in the moment.
Starting point is 00:49:07 No, no chance that that was a sign. If anything, the phone was able to recover. Thus, the sign is that we will navigate adversity together. Ooh, okay. I like that. I like that. Is it tough balancing a career and a relationship? Because they like to tell women you can't have it all.
Starting point is 00:49:21 My fiance is amazing. And we're both in sports. So he gets it. We get it. Is it tough? My fiance is amazing and we're both in sports so he gets it. We get it. Is it tough? Yeah, anything worth having is tough. Is it tough maintaining your relationships and y'all,
Starting point is 00:49:30 you know what I'm saying, and your career? And so I think, it's funny y'all, I hear my mom and my aunts and my grandmothers more in the last year than I think I ever have
Starting point is 00:49:37 but just that one line, keep on living, right? I know y'all, you know what I'm saying? I know we all heard that, right? Keep on living. And I think the closer I get to both my dreams
Starting point is 00:49:43 professionally and personally, I'm like, oh, this is what they're talking about. It's beautiful and I'm excited, but there is a level of energy and maintenance required so that these things are healthy that you can't skirt. You know what I mean? And so, yes, it's tough, but I'm absolutely enjoying it. And I'm so thankful to have a partner that gets it. We, you know, really starting to have the conversations about family planning and what that looks like because we're all over the place with our jobs and so those are not always comfortable conversations but the beauty of it is and one of the reasons that i felt for him was like i realized very early like this is the type of teammate and partner that i want to do life with it ain't always gonna be easy but i want to figure it out with you now i don't know how tall your fiance is how tall is he he's six foot he's six foot okay would you ever you're gonna be an NBA player no no he got an NBA player name but no he's not an NBA player
Starting point is 00:50:28 he works for the players association he's not an ex no he's not he's not a player he is my height I know where you're going with this no but the reason I say that is Charlamagne always says that you know women tall women should date short man and always say he's too short he always feels a way because he says short man he He's just making this up. Okay, well get it straight. Get it straight. What do you want to ask her that you're afraid to ask her
Starting point is 00:50:50 that you're making this up? Would you ever date a guy as small as Charlamagne? Because a lot of times tall women don't date that much shorter. So I think Charlamagne, you're a little short for me,
Starting point is 00:50:59 but I have opened my mind to too short. And my fiance knows this. Like there was a time in my life that I could remember me and my best friend. Like we was hoop girls was hoop girls just like girl six three is the minimum like maybe six seven would be amazing like whatever whatever my fiance is six foot like and for me i had to do five two no probably not i had to get to a very real place where it was like
Starting point is 00:51:18 what matters and my therapist she gave me this project she's like your abc list i've applied this to relationships work friendships the friendships, the whole bit. Like, what have you had in the past? What do you fall for? And what are the actual non-negotiables? And my fiance checked all the non-negotiables. And I was like, all right, bet. Like, height is not as big a deal as I thought it was.
Starting point is 00:51:37 Yeah, I'm not about to argue with you about missing your blessings. Because you haven't missed any. You got a great fiance. You got a great family. I was like, wait, yes. Okay, wait wait i got it listen great things come in small packages i will give you that for sure yes but i just think that is a very personal decision like i have had friends that have like girl i just couldn't do it
Starting point is 00:51:56 i just couldn't do it that's the truth it's true my assistant is six three and i tell her all the time you might have blocked your blessing because she was like when I wear heels I tower over and she didn't want to date anybody you know Charlamagne's hype dating a short man
Starting point is 00:52:10 is a very personal it is a personal decision it is bro I have heels that I'm taller than my fiance in and he's fine with it and I found that
Starting point is 00:52:18 to be something that I loved as we continued to get to know one another and got deeper in our relationship because I've dated taller dudes
Starting point is 00:52:24 I still wasn't as tall as you, but dated and like how tall I was in heels, right? And so like, what I'm supposed to do, I want to feel good too. And so like, he's like,
Starting point is 00:52:32 if you feel good, I'm good. Let's go. Let's roll. And that's important. That's what matters. But I have heard women equate the height thing to feeling protected,
Starting point is 00:52:39 which I get. I get. My height don't fight. My height don't fight. What you mean? I get it. I get it. My height don't fight. My height don't fight. What you mean? I get it. I do get it. But I'm also like, what society are we in where you got to drop your bags and fight in the middle of the street?
Starting point is 00:52:54 What's going on? That is hilarious. Tell us about your nonprofit Grow Our Game. Okay, so that's actually my homegirl, Chanae Joy Jones. Shout out to her. True New Yorker. She's a Hooper referee. She runs the organization Grow Our Game, which is basically keeping girls in sport from the age.
Starting point is 00:53:09 I think her youngest babies are four all the way up to 13. And they have activations all through the city. They work out a lot in Harlem. But the parents are in. Chanae's energy is undeniable. She's effervescent. The kind of girl that got the zest for life and is just using sports as a vehicle to help these young women grow and develop in their confidence at the end of every practice they usually wrap it up with affirmations you are kind you are smart you are beautiful and you
Starting point is 00:53:34 can do anything and i think it's about using sport as a vehicle and i know i'm a product of the power of sports for women but at the same time she has helped some young women go on to play d1 college ball and i think that is beautiful and so the things that sport gave me y'all in terms of confidence friendship the ability to communicate all of those are foundational to life whether you go on and play at a high level or not and so it's been such a blessing to be able to help put grow our game on and be a partner with them in that work the girls got a ton of energy some hoopers in there the parents are about it. And like I say, my girl, Chanae, she's always on energy bunny.
Starting point is 00:54:08 And I just love her passion for life. How do we support that? You can follow on Instagram, growourgame. The logo is G-O-G. It's a black and white logo. Make sure you got the right one. Definitely tap in there. I'm sure there's links there to donate and get involved.
Starting point is 00:54:21 And I'm always kind of trying to shout them out. So it's super dope. All right. Well, it's Monica Minut. How do they always kind of trying to shout them out. So it's super dope. All right. Well, it's Monica McNutt. How do they follow you? Socials is McNuttMonica. Same on everything.
Starting point is 00:54:30 All right. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Blah, blah, blah, blah. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:54:39 Good morning. Salute to Monica McNutt for joining us. Salute to Monica McNutt, man. Appreciate Monica McNutt. Check her out on ESPN. And I'm going to be home tonight in Charleston, South Carolina. I'm going to be at the Music Farm

Starting point is 00:55:00 Get Honest or Die Lying Why Small Talk Sucks. Yes, so I'll be home Tonight in the 843 At 7pm Yes yes yes so you can go to WhySmallTalkSucks.com For more information Where to get tickets and when I say ticket all you're doing is buying a book

Starting point is 00:55:29 Jess don't do no lying. Don't do no lying. She don't spare nobody. Worldwide Jess. Worldwide message. On The Breakfast Club. She's a coach of shit. She was able to get y'all
Starting point is 00:55:43 to see something and understand something that nobody could get you to see. It's time to set it all. Rolling Stone released an expose on Diddy. A new Rolling Stone article alleges that Diddy's abuse started when he was in college, that he was jealous of Biggie and Tupac Shakur's relationship and much more. The article is based on a six-month investigation. It is reported that Rolling Stone reached out to more than 300 people to participate. Only 50 former friends, acquaintances, employees, and bad boy artists, as well as industry insiders,
Starting point is 00:56:17 agreed to assist in the investigation. Most of them participated off the record out of fear of retaliation. The article said those who did speak on combs describe a complicated man with opposing personas outwardly they see a tastemaker who is unapologetically driven generous and jovial even silly at times he can be the same privately but associates who got close enough to him just discovered something darker behind the facade a menacing figure who was desperately who desperately wants to be accepted and admired who uses public declarations of devotion splashy donations and boasts that he is brother love to hide an undercurrent of alleged abuse and violence the article also recalled an interview with jet that diddy did back in the day bringing up the fact that his name is puff uh which stems
Starting point is 00:57:07 from his temper as a child he earned his nickname as a kid because he would always huff and puff when he got mad he said i had no that yeah he said i had a temper that's why my friends started calling me puffy uh some stories came from women who filed lawsuits against diddy an unnamed person who reportedly attended howard university with diddy i unnamed person who reportedly attended howard university with diddy i didn't know he went to howard university uh spoke on him beating his girlfriend on campus they said dorm mates were yelling the halls puff is out here acting crazy he's beating her signaling everyone to try to help the young girl yeah puff he didn't he didn't graduate but i think he went there for two years okay yeah i yeah, I didn't know he attended. Maybe, yeah. Yeah, 90s hip-hop photographer Monique Bunn,
Starting point is 00:57:46 who was close with Biggie and other bad boy artists, claimed that Diddy didn't like Biggie's relationship with Tupac because Pac didn't have any respect for him. He thought he was corny. The most interesting part of the article to me is a clip from the Breakfast Club interview that they had referenced. They brought up Diddy's interview with you guys in 2015 when he spoke on his 25 75 relationship rule i'm in a relationship with you like 25 of your time you're gonna just like feel like oh man i hate being here oh man this guy oh
Starting point is 00:58:17 man oh man he cheated on me he lied on me ah that's 25 you know i'm saying but then there's 75 of i'm gonna make you the happiest woman in the whole wide world i'm gonna be there to support your dreams i'm gonna be there to hold you listen to you i'm gonna be there to be your best friend and i promise you'll smile the most you know who i am this is what it is 25 percent 75 which deal would you choose? that's a strong 25% he changed that though I don't know if you remember he later went online and apologized
Starting point is 00:58:52 I don't remember from the backlash that he got from that I think that's the time he was dating I think he was with Cassie at that time and he came back and was like you know what I was wrong for saying that he definitely came back did he just change percentages
Starting point is 00:59:03 or did he just say no? he just said I don't know I think he just said no okay all right all right as part of the investigation rolling stone sent diddy a list of questions but his team responded saying that he can't stop oh no he cannot and will not respond to every cannot will not yeah he cannot and will not respond to every story picked up by the press the article is extremely long
Starting point is 00:59:28 and has so much information y'all it recaps all the things that we've already heard about Diddy over the years if you want a
Starting point is 00:59:33 full summary of Diddy's allegations from college all the way up to now go check out the investigation for yourself
Starting point is 00:59:38 first of all round of applause to Jess Larris those three days did her well I don't know if it was Rosetta Stone I don't know
Starting point is 00:59:43 it was actually four days Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday well. I don't know if it was Rosetta Stone. I don't know. It was actually four days. Four days. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Amazing reading. I'm going to be hitting them all. Amazing reading. Y'all play smart.
Starting point is 00:59:51 Amazing reading. Yes. But also so much to learn from that situation. I read that article. Yeah, man. You did? I did. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:57 And I just, you know, I don't want anything that's not a God. You know, I got a good friend named Marbet Brittle. She always says talent will take you. A character can't sustain you. So the money, the influence, the power, none of that means anything if you don't have good character, because if you don't have good character, all those things you have are only for self-serving purposes. Like you truly got to have your ego in check. You truly got to do the internal work. So whatever pain you have, you don't project on the others because it's pointless to be what, you know, Diddy was to the public but be something completely different behind the scenes allegedly still got to say allegedly for for some of this stuff yeah yeah the thing about that is
Starting point is 01:00:31 yeah you know some of those people are probably absolutely positively true when they're talking about diddy but when they bring stuff back from 30 years ago and they're saying this is what happened and it's just somebody's account right we don't know what's true and what's not true that's the sad part about it we've seen a lot of this unfold with, of course, with the Cassie video. And we've seen a lot of it unfold with people that say something to Diddy. But sometimes like that, I wonder who's in it just to get their name out in the paper. Right. And who's in there because they're absolutely positively telling the truth.
Starting point is 01:00:57 Amen. A lot of this, if you knew somebody was beating somebody in the dorm room, why wouldn't you say something back there? So some of this stuff is like, all right, doing something that could be true maybe they did say something but i mean back then he wasn't nobody it wasn't he was little huffy puffy he wasn't shut up man so that is just with the mess yeah because he said he would always have a puppy. And his friends was like, oh, gosh. Little Huffy Puffy. We're going to call you Puffy. Jesus Christ. I've seen enough to know that that's not what anybody should want. Not at all.
Starting point is 01:01:31 You know what I'm saying? Not at all. Like Marvette says, your talent will take you. Your character can't sustain you. And that's why I always tell parents out there, you make sure these kids are not looking up to these individuals that they see out there, celebrities, sports athletes, entertainers, as heroes. I disagree with that. You could look at them, you could look at their business and say, I like them as an artist. That's what we are looking at.
Starting point is 01:01:50 A lot of people want to be them. When I was talking to Young Ghana, Young Ghana wanted to be Puffy. Come here, Brandon. You see how this man trying to play you? What did you want to be? Thank you. I'm trying to change the story. I was looking up to Diddy growing up. What did you want to be? Now I'm sorry. I'm going to try to change the story.
Starting point is 01:02:05 What did you want to be? I wanted to be an African Diddy. I was looking up to Diddy growing up. For what though? For what reason? Like as a mogul. Exactly. When I was supposed to, he said, I wanted to be everything like Diddy.
Starting point is 01:02:14 Mogul, Envy, lifestyle, professionally. But African. Did you know that? No, but he liked the way Diddy moved out there in the clubs. He liked the way Diddy was with the chicks. Right or wrong? Yeah. So it's more than just the way Diddy moved out there in the clubs. He liked the way Diddy was with the chicks. Right or wrong? Yeah. So it's more than just the way.
Starting point is 01:02:26 You wanted to be like DJ Clue? Did you put on knee pads and a mouth guard and headgear to go play basketball? DJ Clue wore knee pads? The DJ? No, he didn't wear no knee pads. He didn't play basketball. Thank you, Jefferson. All I'm simply saying is we know what people mean when they say they want to be like somebody.
Starting point is 01:02:44 When those commercials say, well, I want to be like Mike, I want to play basketball like Mike. I wanted to have the career he had. He also wanted to be in the club and have chicks like Diddy. It's part of the lifestyle. There ain't no Diddy without him doing what he was doing. Yeah, damn. Don't let him do you like that. That's what he told me.
Starting point is 01:03:01 He wanted to grow up to be the artist. That's not what he wanted to do. Can we rap? Can we rap? Can we rap, yo? Okay. All right. God dang. And shout out to Klu.
Starting point is 01:03:10 He don't wear knee caps to any guards. I saw it. No, that's a lie. When I used to work out right over there on West Side Highway, Klu was in there dressed like he was a white man that ain't never played basketball ever in his life around black people. Just dressed in all this basketball gear. Head to toe. Damn.
Starting point is 01:03:23 Knee pads, elbow pads elbow pads mouth guard head band stretching all crazy just to give two points in a damn who you giving your donkey to man before after the hour we need pope francis to come to the congregation we like to have a word with him all right well we'll get to it next is the breakfast club good morning wake up wake up you're locked into The Breakfast Club. Donkey of the Day time. Made it. Damn, the hee-haw, dude.
Starting point is 01:03:52 It's time for Donkey of the Day. I ain't trying to be Donkey of the Day no more. They should be embarrassed by what they already did. I'm not making these people do these things. I called Donkey of the Day, and it really caught me off guard. Damn, Charlamagne. Who got the donkey of the day. And it really caught me off guard. Damn, Solomon. Who got the donkey of the day today? Well, just hilarious.
Starting point is 01:04:10 Donkey of the day for Wednesday, May 29th goes to Pope Francis. Yes, 87-year-old Pope Francis was apologized for using an anti-gay slur during a meeting with bishops. The 87-year-old reportedly made the homophobic remark in a closed door meeting last week as he told Italian bishops that gay men shouldn't be allowed to train for the priesthood. Let's go to NBC News for the report, please. Pope Francis this week meeting his public. He is the focal point of global Christianity, a leader for so many, but now embroiled in yet another Vatican scandal.
Starting point is 01:04:42 It's reported that during a private meeting with bishops a week ago he used a highly offensive term to describe members of the LGBT plus community. The Pope is said to have referred to the word for which roughly translates as f*****ness. Today came an apology from the Vatican. In the church there is room for everyone it said the pope never intended to offend or express himself in homophobic terms and he apologizes to those who felt offended by the use of a term reported by others what now that wasn't nbc news that was sky news apologies uh the word he used i can't pronounce and that's probably for the best did we isolate it eddie we didn't isolate it i can't pronounce it but just know it sounds like a espresso blended beverage you could order at starbucks okay extra whipped cream of course
Starting point is 01:05:34 don't be stingy with the caramel drizzle either this is why words are so tricky man because the word literally means a bundle of sticks and was used in the 19th century to describe older women who gathered firewood but has since taken on a negative connotation to describe gay men how did the word evolve in that way i don't know is it because you can drop the st and replace with a d makes sense to me say it with me envy bundle of sticksicks. No. Nope. But you don't... Hey, yo. Right? And older women who gather firewood.
Starting point is 01:06:10 Okay? That's what it also means. How do we know firewood is in slang for good penis? Right? Firewood. Firewood. You got that firewood. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:06:22 I'm just trying to figure out how words evolve the way they do. And this word Pope Francis uses now an offensive noun, which translates into an English word that I cannot say on the radio. Now, listen, the Vatican ruled in 2005 that the church cannot allow the ordination of men who are actively gay or have deep seated homosexual tendencies. Damn it, Envy, we can't be bishops. Deeply seated homosexual tendencies. I don, Envy, we can't be bishops. Deeply seated homosexual tendencies. I don't even know what that means, but I feel like that might apply to us. What is the difference
Starting point is 01:06:52 between being actively gay and having deep seated homosexual tendencies? They sound like two sides of the same cheeks to me. I guess when you're actively gay, somebody is deep in your seat as opposed to having
Starting point is 01:07:06 deep-seated homosexual tendencies. But you know what's interesting? I was actually talking about this yesterday with some of the homies and I was saying how religious people don't feel like they're being homophobic because it's under the guise of religion. They look at homosexuality
Starting point is 01:07:18 as being an abomination. So the religious folks saying homosexuality is wrong isn't homophobic or keeping gay people out of things isn't homophobic, are keeping, you know, gay people out of things, isn't homophobic. It's a religious belief. Well, all that goes out the window when you use a gay slur behind closed doors. OK, now, they said in recent years the pope has offered a more welcome approach to LGBTQ plus Catholics saying, who am I to judge when it comes to gay priests? And has also offered the possibility that priests could offer informal blessings for same-sex couples and i guess some
Starting point is 01:07:49 spokespeople for the pope said that the pope uh who speaks italian as a second language may not have been aware of how offensive his language was adding that the remark was greeted with laughter by the bishops just because something is funny doesn't mean it's right or appropriate it just means it's funny okay haha funny not bundles of sticks funny but here's the thing here's the thing pope you can't use the excuse that you didn't know it was a slur you are the pope and even though you are human you have a better understanding of what's right and wrong than most individuals or at least you should you should know everything that's not right to do simply because you're the Pope
Starting point is 01:08:25 So because you're the Pope you will be held to a higher standard than most But he's also 87 at 87. I don't think he really gives a damn I mean the Vatican is apologizing for the Pope's remarks But the Pope is probably like anyone who's upset at me calling gay people a bundle of sticks They too are a bundle of sticks. Please give Pope Francis the sweet sounds of the Hamiltons. Oh, now you are the donkey of the day. You are the donkey of the day. Yeehaw.
Starting point is 01:09:03 Now, you know your Uncle Charles is not the highest grade of weed in the dispensary. So I need some of y'all to help me out. I just need to know what is the difference between being actively gay and having deep seated homosexual tendencies. I just need to know the difference. Trav, somebody help me out here. Just look in the mirror. Shut up. Deep seated homosexual tendencies.
Starting point is 01:09:24 That sounds gay gay than being gay yeah i do have a question though if this would have been an actor an actress a rapper or anybody out there with a regular job a high-end job if they said that word they would be canceled what you're gonna do cancel the pope or they would be fired you're gonna fire the pope unless you're donald trump donald trump it just doesn't apply to him but anybody else would be out of there so what do you want to happen to the pope i'm just asking i don't even know what can happen to him that's what i'm asking what could happen you can't cancel the pope right he's 87 oh yeah you're gonna do cancel pope but using a word yes i. I'm just asking.
Starting point is 01:10:05 And he clearly didn't care. Because he didn't even apologize. No. The Vatican apologized. Y'all worried about the wrong things, though. What is deep-seated homosexual tendencies? It does. It sounds deep.
Starting point is 01:10:20 It sounds very deep, like deeply rooted. What does that mean? Like you... I don't know maybe something happened like the way charlemagne looks at me sometimes i the way he acts like he's more okay it could happen like trauma younger trauma deeply rooted something there's nothing you can't google people with deep-seated homosexual tendencies may identify as gay men and often believe they were born that way and that homosexuality is a normal variation of homosexuality. That's just gay.
Starting point is 01:10:47 What are we doing? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. What's the difference? Just was born that way. They may also be comfortable with their sexual attractions and not view homosexuality as a disordered inclination. They may reject scientific findings that there is no genetic or biological basis. I don't, it just makes no sense to me. Okay.
Starting point is 01:11:01 So they're making it very scientific on that. It's just, yeah, it's just, come on. Okay. You're gay. It's just fine., it's just, come on. Okay. You're gay. It's just fine. It's okay. Stop it. All right.
Starting point is 01:11:09 I'm crying. All right. Well, thank you for that donkey today, sir. Mm-hmm. All right. Now, when we come back, let's open up the phone lines. 800-585-1051. This comes from Jacquees, R&B artist.
Starting point is 01:11:20 He was with his fiance, which is, I can't remember her name, Deion Sanders' daughter. Deondra Sanders. Yeah, Deondra. Deondra sanders and they were talking about picking the child's last name if he's a boy his name is junior i'm not agreeing to that i'm sorry it technically can't be a junior it can't be technically technically but sanders broadnicks is not a junior i know but technically you can be bright but that's not gonna happen because i'm not married so my last name is going as well so that is the question 800-585-1051 what are your thoughts all right you you're having a child with an individual you're not married women do you want to keep the child do you want to make sure that the child's last name matches your last name don't pick up hints too well huh you don't you don't get clues too well
Starting point is 01:12:13 clearly she's clearly she's telling you what she said it can't be but she's also telling him you can't unless we marry yeah yeah so that is the. 800-585-1051. Ladies, if you have a child with an individual, do you want to keep the last name until you guys are married? That is the question. I'm with you, ladies. Make that man go get a ring, if that's what you want. If you want to marry that man.
Starting point is 01:12:35 We'll discuss when we come back. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. It's topic time call 800-585-1051 to join into the discussion with the breakfast club morning everybody it's dj envy just hilarious shalameen the guy we are the breakfast club if you're just joining us we're talking about jockquese and his fiance uh what's her name again deandrea sanders deandrea sanders all right and they were talking about taking the child's last name and this is what uh jaquese and her discussion was like so these are boys names
Starting point is 01:13:17 i'm not agreeing to that i'm sorry it technically can't be a junior. It can be, technically. Technically. But Sanders Broadnicks is not a junior. I know, but technically he can be Broadnicks. But that's not going to happen because I'm not married. So my last name is going as well. Team Boy! We having a little boy, man.
Starting point is 01:13:43 You know what I'm saying? Little Junior on the way. No, having a little boy, man. You know what I'm saying? Little Junior on the way. No, not a little Junior. So we're asking 800-585-1051. What are your thoughts about picking your child's last name when you're not married? Let's start with you. You're about to have a baby. Seems like tomorrow.
Starting point is 01:13:58 Yes, seems like tomorrow. Yeah, I feel her and I feel him too. This is his first child. And of course, he wants a junior. Every guy, well almost every guy, hopes for their first boy to be a junior. Jerome wanted Ash to be a junior, but no, it just wasn't happening.
Starting point is 01:14:15 But, you know, I understand her part too. Because she wants to be married. And then also, I know we always talk about the man, like, okay, they want the legacy to live on. They want their name to live on. What about ours? So I think a great compromise would be give the baby both of y'all last names. I ain't going to say it.
Starting point is 01:14:31 Broadnecks, I'm not really too hype about. But that's his last name, you know. So Broadnecks Sanders. I just really think that if they can't come to it, and he know he not going to marry her, go ahead. And just have both last names so the baby can carry on both of your legacies yeah things have changed a lot i me and my wife never had that conversation it was we had kids it's my last name uh it didn't make me really think about it until my daughter talking to my daughter my daughter was like no i like my last name i want my last name in whatever it is
Starting point is 01:15:00 yeah um and i'm like fine but i never thought about it i i don't think back then i don't think i was open-minded enough to do that yeah it was just not take my last name because that was quote-unquote tradition yeah uh now i think things have changed but uh but now charlamagne also said you know yeah you know you don't get the clues but what happened if he's not ready to get married yeah you don't want to force him to get married because of this kid and make it because of a reason if he's not ready you got to give him time just like you would have to give her time to be ready he might not be ready to be married at this time that's what i said as well i you know that's what i said that's why i said it's both
Starting point is 01:15:35 it's good to have both of the last names yeah whatever folks wanted their prerogative you know but the fact she said uh no because she's not married lets me know she wants to be married so jacques you know you want the son what's his name jacques his name is rodriguez jacques broadnecks rodriguez jacques malcolm x if you want the son to have your name go on down to the jeweler and get that ring and do what you need to do because having a child is great having a family is better but what happened if he's not ready for that? Yeah. Well, she might not be ready to have a baby, but guess what?
Starting point is 01:16:06 He ain't think of that when he was sweating on top of her, right? Giving that fire wood. That's right. That fire, exactly. So, yo, you got to do
Starting point is 01:16:14 what you got to do. Yeah. I think the baby, if the man is a good man, I think the baby should have the father's on his name. And I think if she
Starting point is 01:16:20 want to get married, she should be able to want to get married. And I think that he should take his ass down to the jeweler and get that ring and do what he need to do. Kelsey.
Starting point is 01:16:28 I feel like it depends on the character of the man. I am kind of newly out of a 10-year relationship. And we had a son almost three years ago. And I had reservations about naming him the third, but I eventually went with it because he's a great dad. Like, he's a better dad than he is anything, and he's a great person. But I feel like overall, like, his character of a father is never going to change how he raises my child and the example he's going to set. So I don't have any regrets, but I also feel like you have to know
Starting point is 01:16:58 who you're having your child with, and maybe she just does not feel like he's all that he should be as a man, you know? Like, just because me and my baby daddy didn't work out doesn't mean that he won't ever be a great father to my child and a great provider for the both of us. That's very true. Thank you, Mama. We have Shanika on the line. Shanika. Yes!
Starting point is 01:17:19 What? Ray, she is! Shanika? Yes. Do you spell your name S-H-A-N-E-K-K-A? Yes. Okay. Shanika, do you have trouble getting an A-P-A-R-T-M-E-N-T?
Starting point is 01:17:33 Oh, my God. Stop. How do you feel about this whole topic, Shanika? I feel like she's right. If I would have known what I know now, it's much easier just to have that child name be yours if y'all are not married. But that's still a dad's child, though, right?
Starting point is 01:17:52 If he's a good father. If he's still a dad's child and he's a good father, when a mom is with that child all the time and have to do doctor's appointments, school, registration, it is so much easier if that child has your last name. Yeah. Okay. That's just the way I feel. I'm with schools, registration. It is so much easier if that child has your last name. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 01:18:06 That's just the way I feel. I'm with you, man. Thank you, Shanika, with two Ks. All right. Thanks. Bye. Like I said, having a baby is great. Having a family is better.
Starting point is 01:18:17 You know, clearly she wants to get married. She said it to him. She said, hey, you know, we not married. That right there, the light light bubble go off in my head like oh shoot let me go on down here and get this ring but but you can't force anybody to get married you don't know if that if they are ready for a relationship you know he you don't know if he's ready for a relationship he has to work through to get to that point might not have been ready to have kids or yeah that that too or the fact that he wanted to get married. He may not want to get married.
Starting point is 01:18:45 Who says he wants to get married? Not even that he ain't ready. Maybe he don't want to. That's true, too. So, you know, I just really feel like ain't nothing wrong with broad neck standards. Like, I honestly feel like if I know what I've known today, Ash would have been a more James. I agree with that. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:19:01 Like, not just James. You know, I don't regret anything I did, but would have you know taking the time to be like dang I want both of our names to live you know cuz I knew I wasn't gonna marry Rome Rome knew he won't go marry me we were just we thought we was in love at the time you know but more James would have been better he don't even talk to you. I want that too, though, because I got all daughters, so I want my name to still be,
Starting point is 01:19:32 if they choose to get married, I want to hyphenate too. But you got brothers, though, as well. So your name will live on, right? What the hell my brother's got to do with me and my kids? I thought he wanted his last name to live on. Not to his brothers. I'd be feeling so sorry for Hampton whenever you say you want Hampton. No, because you said, because usually you want your last name to live on. No, not to his brothers. I'd be feeling so sorry for Hampton whenever you say you want Hampton.
Starting point is 01:19:45 No, because you said... You usually want your last name to live on because you don't want your last name to stop. But you got siblings. Like, I'm an only child. And what is you talking about? I want my name to live on with my kids, man. Yeah, because his brothers gotta die.
Starting point is 01:19:59 It's the kids. Oh, no, no. I thought you wanted to hold your last name. Like, you want your last name to live on. With my kids. With his kids so they can keep on producing McAlvee's. Oh, not, not. I thought you wanted to hold your last name. Like, you want your last name to live on. His seat. Yeah, live on with his kids so they can keep on producing McAlvee's. Most people want to keep the name because they want the last name to live on regardless. But, all right, whatever. Envy, I don't know what the hell you're talking about.
Starting point is 01:20:14 None of us know what you're talking about. Red understands what I'm talking about. No, we don't. Do you understand what I'm talking about? Red just don't be wanting to argue. Sid doesn't know what I'm talking about. I respect Red for that. Red just be like, yeah, Envy, go ahead.
Starting point is 01:20:22 Put your helmet back on. Welcome to the bus. Don't back on. Welcome to the bus. Don't say nothing. Welcome to the bus, y'all. Just go ahead. Damn. Shout out to all the people that were at home with that listen. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:20:37 800-585-1051. If you're just joining us, we're asking, what are your thoughts about picking your child's last name when you're not married? Let's discuss this at The Breakfast Club. Good morning. If y'all talking about it, you know we talking about it. It's topic time. Call 800-585-1051 to join in to the discussion with The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 01:20:56 Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. If you're just joining us, we're talking about Jacquees and his fiancee, DeSandra. Did I say it right? No. DeAndrea. DeAndrea.
Starting point is 01:21:09 I know it's Deon. DeAndrea. There you go. DeAndrea Sanders. And they were talking about their child's last name. This is what they said. These are boys named Junior. I'm not agreeing to that.
Starting point is 01:21:21 I'm sorry. It technically can't be a junior. It can be. I'm sorry. It technically can't be a junior. It can be, technically. Technically. But Sanders Brodnick is not a junior. I know, but technically he can be Brodnick. But that's not going to happen because I'm not married. So my last name is going as well.
Starting point is 01:21:41 Team Boy! We having a little boy, man. You know what I'm saying? Little Junior on the way. No, not a little Junior. So we're taking your calls. 800-585-1051. What are your thoughts?
Starting point is 01:21:53 How you feeling, Lana? I'm good. I'm ready for work. What's your thoughts? I am a mother. I have a nine-year-old by her father. So I see where he's coming from. Because what happens if something happens to him, he would like
Starting point is 01:22:06 his name to pass down. Which every father wants. But then I can also see her point because she wants to get married but what if they're not really in love like that? Right. Because you have a baby with somebody, it don't mean you need to marry them. Correct. Exactly
Starting point is 01:22:22 because I've been with my daughter's father for 12 years and we have a 9 year old. And he had recently passed away've been with my daughter's father for 12 years, and we have a nine-year-old, and he had recently passed away two years ago, so she's carrying his last name. Right. Okay. Well, thank you, Lana. Hello, who's this? Hey, it's Victoria.
Starting point is 01:22:36 Hey, Victoria. Good morning. What's your thoughts? Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. My thoughts is, I feel like I don't disagree with him, but she should have the right. Because, like she said, they're not married.
Starting point is 01:22:48 And technically, back in the day, that's why your kid is named after the last name after the dad. It's because the whole family has the dad's last name because they're married. So I feel like, and it's a real negative stigma about taking a mom's last name. You know, they'd be like, oh, your mother was a hoe. She didn't know who to. What? Damn, I never heard that one. I ain't never heard that.
Starting point is 01:23:11 I never heard that stigma. Who said that? People get teased for that. When I was going to school, people would get teased for having a mother's last name. Like, oh, she didn't know who your mom's last name was. Yeah, she didn't know who the dad was. Well, it depends who the mama is, though. Right? Because who would know if your mama was a whole
Starting point is 01:23:27 nine? No, but I feel her. I get where he's coming from, but I feel like she shouldn't get so much flack. Because I've seen the guys commenting. They was mad. But, I mean, if it's important to you, marry her. Give the whole family your last name.
Starting point is 01:23:43 Then it won't be no question. I concur. She said he's going to you, marry her. Give the whole family your last name. Then it won't be no question. I concur. Hey, two. She said he's going to have my last name, too. So maybe she's going to hyphenate it. I like the hyphen, too. That's what Jess said. And I agree with that as well, because I got all daughters.
Starting point is 01:23:55 So I want to be hyphenated, too. Definitely. Yeah, so I just feel like it'd be easy on her, you know. But, oh, Charlamagne, I just opened your book this morning. Thank you very much. I'm so excited to read it. You're her, you know. But, oh, Charlamagne, I just opened your book this morning. Thank you very much. I'm so excited to read it. You're very, very welcome. But if you want to send me a signed copy, I would love that as well.
Starting point is 01:24:11 But I'm getting it easy for you. Let's do that. Where you at anyway? Where you live at? I'm from, I'm living in the Poconos right now. I'm from Harlem now. Oh, okay, okay. Yeah, send her a copy of it.
Starting point is 01:24:20 I'll sign it for you. How is the Poconos? Did they ever build that train that they were supposed to build that gets people from the Poconos to New York City real fast? Hell no. Damn. Hell no, they didn't. Damn. Alright. Well, thank you, Mama. They've been talking about it for years, yeah. Thank you. Y'all have a good day. Congratulations,
Starting point is 01:24:36 Jess, and have a wonderful day. I'm gonna put you on hold. Hold on, okay? I had an aunt used to live in the Poconos. Alright. Well, that was the whole thing with the Poconos. For people that don't know, Poconos was about a 45-minute trip from New York or an hour trip from New York. But the houses were very, very cheap. And you could get acres. But they used to sell people like, yo, we're going to build this train system, like this billet train that's supposed to get you from the Poconos to New York real fast.
Starting point is 01:24:57 And that was like 20 years ago. They still ain't built that train yet. That's the first time I ever saw a bed was in the Poconos. I was at my aunt Dot's house. I was at her house in the Poconos. Where is that at? Where is the Poconos at? Pennsylvania, right?
Starting point is 01:25:08 Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania. All right. All right. Got you. That's the first time you seen a bear you ate bear before. That's the first time you seen a bear in the Poconos? I thought y'all ate bear in South Carolina.
Starting point is 01:25:15 He didn't catch it and kill it. You know how long ago that was? He just probably ordered it. First of all, we ain't never catch no bear in South Carolina. I had a bear showed in West Virginia. And when I saw that bear playing in the river in the Poconos, that was years ago. Eons. And don't talk.
Starting point is 01:25:32 There's a man, E-Squirrel. Oh, you have a wife. I'm like, first of all. No. You just never know. Those deeply seated homosexual tendencies. You just never know. I'm like, oh, my gosh. He just never did. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 01:25:46 Oh, my goodness. All right. What's the moral of this story? I don't know. Hyphenate. If you know you're not going to be married, there's nothing wrong with hyphenations. There's nothing wrong with your baby having two names to carry on two legacies. Word.
Starting point is 01:26:00 To the mom and the dad. I like that. All right. Well, let's get straight to the mess. The news is real, brother. The line's just a robin' morn. Jets don't do no lie. Don't do no lie.
Starting point is 01:26:13 She don't spare nobody. Worldwide Jets, worldwide mess. On The Breakfast Club. She's a culture shift. She was able to get y'all to see something and understand something that nobody could get you to see it's time to set it off so y'all look i'm trying to figure out what story i want to do first because it's all just juicy all right anyway nikki minaj speaks out after recent arrest in Amsterdam. So we know she went through over the weekend and she was on station here when she briefly discussed her experience following her recent arrest.
Starting point is 01:26:52 Not being able to get to Manchester. I don't know when was the last time I felt that much like that low and not only not not only that but just knowing that something is being done to you on purpose simply because you are a confident other race you know like i said i'm not gonna get into it and tell you guys the joy they took in it even while i was there there was one lady there all the rest were men and she i could tell she had a heart, but the treatment was just disgusting. And I wouldn't wish that on anyone. In fact, they put out a, when they put out that press release that I was released, I was still in the, in the building. They were doing maybe damage control.
Starting point is 01:27:38 I don't know. Damn. Damn. You don't deserve that. No, no one deserves that. Honestly. I mean, unless you did a heavy crime, like what? But when I was looking at the video, to be honest with you,
Starting point is 01:27:49 they were telling her not to record, but I'm glad we do have phones because I ain't no telling. It didn't even look like a... I mean, it was clean and everything, but I guess other countries is different things, different setups, but it looked like a cage, like a mobile cage. I'd be scared if somebody told me to get into a van in another country. By yourself?
Starting point is 01:28:10 I don't know. What? Nah, so I'm glad that she did record. And, you know, she was filming. And they kept telling her not to. But I'm glad that she did. But I'm glad that she is okay now and continuing her tour. Kate Middleton has turned a corner with cancer treatment.
Starting point is 01:28:25 So we know Kate was missing from the scene earlier. I mean, from the scene since her cancer diagnosis, but she finally been spotted out and this is the real Kate Middleton, y'all. For the first time in a long time, we actually got to see her. Sources close to the family also says
Starting point is 01:28:41 that she's been doing better in tolerating the cancer treatment very well. So she's been doing better in tolerating the cancer treatment very well. So she's been doing good with that. And then she also returned to social media last week to share the work that she's been doing behind the scenes for Mental Health Awareness Week that she's been working on. But sources say that she's in no rush to return to work. So that's just a good update for you all because I know you'll be wondering about her. Whatever. I'm sorry. No, it's okay. I tried to'all be wondering about her. Whatever. I'm sorry. No, it's okay.
Starting point is 01:29:07 I tried to have enthusiasm, but I ain't want to. I was talking to the listeners anyway. That's right. The listeners care. Because they want to know. And Tupac. Tupac care. Don't nobody else care. You're a clown. Okay. Alfonso Ribeiro, also known
Starting point is 01:29:23 as Carlton Shades Tyler Perry. So a fan on X shared a post saying Tyler Perry needs to revamp Alfonso Ribeiro, also known as Carlton Shades Tyler Perry. So a fan on X shared a post saying, Tyler Perry needs to revamp Alfonso Ribeiro's career. I just know he could. Alfonso responded saying, I don't need or want that man to do anything for me. So a lot of people were speculating like, oh, damn, what happened? What's going on? Like, what's up? What happened?
Starting point is 01:29:40 Right. So I went on his IMDB and it says that he has 12 directing credits on the former tyler parry show uh meet the browns so they had to cross paths like they obviously worked together and something may have happened that um they encouraged him to say that but that's just a little bit of tea y'all and tyler said and i won't ty Tyler ain't say nothing. And I won't. Do nothing else for your ass. Ayo. No.
Starting point is 01:30:08 So he ain't say nothing yet. We don't know what he's going to say. All right. Sexy Red makes wrestling debut. Last night, Sexy Red made her wrestling debut on WWE NXT. When the episode started, she was just a celebrity in the crowd. But to everyone's surprise, she ended up becoming a part of the storyline. She announced that she'll be the guest host for the upcoming Battleground Live event
Starting point is 01:30:28 on June 9th in Vegas. She also unveiled the North American title belt. While she was showcasing the belt, another wrestler came up, Tatum Paxley, snuck up and tried to snatch it. Another wrestler hopped in the ring to protect the belt from Tatum Paxley, but Sexy and Tatum, they didn't fight, but fans are hoping that this will lead up to a fight in the ring to protect the belt from Tatum Paxley. But Sexy and Tatum, they didn't fight,
Starting point is 01:30:45 but fans are hoping that this will lead up to a fight in the future episode. And this all comes from Sexy saying in October, back in October, that she wanted to be on WWE.
