Starting point is 00:00:57 Talking to your kids about the dangers of vaping can be hard. Getting them to listen to hot gossip is easy. So here's some drama you could share with your kid. Dude, did you hear about Cassie and Jake? No, but did you hear that vaping can cause irreversible lung damage and nicotine effects brain development? No-uh. You don't need a gossip if you want to have an open conversation about vaping.
Starting point is 00:01:20 So if you want to get tips on when and how to talk to your kids, visit Talk Aboutvaping.org. Brought to you by the American Lung Association and the Ad Council. Let's see how we can stop killing.
Starting point is 00:01:46 I'm not too intimidated by her. What are you talking about? Listen to The Girlfriend Spotlight on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, I'm Danielle Robe. bookmarked, the podcast by Reese's book club. And this week, we are talking about a monster, or maybe the woman who refused to be one. I'm sitting down with Maggie Jillon Hall to unpack her new film, The Bride. And trust me, this isn't your grandmother's bride of Frankenstein. What I was more interested in was the monstrousness inside of each of us. You can spend your life
Starting point is 00:02:24 running from those things, or you can turn around and shake hands with them. Listen to bookmarked. the Reese's Book Club podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Woke up, woke up, wake you up. Program your alarm to Power 105.1 on IHeartRadio. Good morning, USA! Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, jo, joelelelior. Just hilarious.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Wake that ass up. Sholamine the God. Peace of the planet, it's Monday. Good morning. How y'all feel out there? I feel blessed black and highly favorite. Happy to be here another day to serve our beautiful listeners. Good morning, man.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Yes, it's Monday. How are you going to be here? Because we do. I feel good. Yes, I want to be here. And, oh, my God, I do now. I want the Lord to strike me down. Guess what I just found out, y'all?
Starting point is 00:03:17 Oh, my gosh. Jesus' father name was John. Didn't I know that? you know, and I did not grow up. But for real, nobody talks about this earthly father like that. I didn't know I was really going back and fall for my husband. And Chris, I ain't know Chris knew. I'm like, why are you talking about who was John?
Starting point is 00:03:36 And he's like, John the Baptist, that was Jesus' father. Like, you know, that was his earthly father. And I'm like, no, God put the baby in Mary. You know, they didn't, they weren't, he wasn't conceived regularly. Like, we conceived babies, you know what I'm saying? So I didn't know he had no other father. All I know is just, you know, God, Jesus. Jesus Christ.
Starting point is 00:03:54 You know, it was three chipmunks, too. It was Alvin. No, what? Shut up. No. You know that? He was Rudolph, too. Rudolph was a reindeer.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Y'all are clowns. I'm just saying. Santa Claus got a stomach, too. First of all. He looks down and can't see his penis every morning. You're an idiot, Larry. No. I didn't know that, so sorry, Lord.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Well, congratulations. Salute to everybody I've seen him to Miami yesterday. A best friend of mine, you know him, Sholomey. Danny, I mean, I met Danny probably about 2002, and he was riding. He's been riding with me. So he got married over the weekend. A beautiful ceremony.
Starting point is 00:04:27 I love weddings. It's just positivity. It's just, you know, alcohol. It's just dancing. Of course it was alcohol. That's all I remember about Danny. Thank you. Does Danny still drink heavily?
Starting point is 00:04:39 He does it, but last night during the ceremony, as they were walking down the aisle before they did, they had a shot, shot, shot part. And during the ceremony, they gave everybody like the little shots of tequila before he got married. That's all I think about. All I'm imagining Danny with a big box. bottle of Patron in this head. Because when we used to go out back in the day,
Starting point is 00:04:55 that's what he used to do. You just drank Patron to the face. Yo, they took a shot before they said their vows before they walked down an aisle for real. Yes, dope. Yes. To each is on. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Did he go off script? Did it feel like he went off script? No, no, it was playing. And they read their own vows. And it was just beautiful. The weather was perfect. It wasn't too hot. It wasn't too breezy.
Starting point is 00:05:17 It was just an amazing, amazing day. So salute to Danny and Emily. Congratulations on your marriage. Amazing. I went to go see Hoppers this weekend, man. I see you at that. My wife wanted to take the girls to go see Hoppers. Hoppers is a new movie from Disney, Pixar, and it is amazing.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Nice. Okay, it is amazing. It makes you want to recycle. It's about a young woman named Mabel, and Mabel just loves nature. And, I mean, I'm not giving no more the movie away, but she loves nature. Like, really, really, really, really loves nature in a real way. And it's a dope movie because it's just a reminder that, you know, we as humans in this earth. we're all just one entity and we don't act like that and the way you treat the earth is is is
Starting point is 00:05:58 really uh you know how you how you treat yourself and how you'll treat other people because the earth is a human is a human is a living organism as well right absolutely so if you don't respect the earth you really don't respect yourself and i'm glad you really respect the earth because when i you know when you were a kid well i don't know if you guys did but i kind of feel like the earth was our our garbage disposal you just throw things out the car i never felt like that no my mother was sleeping hell out of me i threw anything out of the car I learned out to live a little very young. I learned out to live a very, very young. I never felt like that.
Starting point is 00:06:27 Never. That's probably a queen's thing, but we never did that. I even felt like when I used to pee outside, you know what I'm saying? Growing up in the country, amongst corner of South Carolina, I was giving back to the earth. We are one. That's why I don't understand all the people that like to tear down these forests to build all these franchises, okay? Because you need, you know, trees. There's this thing called photosynthesis, okay?
Starting point is 00:06:47 We all need each other here on this plant. And you think your old dirty as peeing outside was great? That was something you've given back to the earth. Listen, she'll Google that, and then she'll come in the radio and say it two weeks later. Guess what I learned, y'all? What? Tell me right now. It's fertilizer.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Oh, so everybody should just go pee outside to get back to the earth and fertilize it. If you do, it's fertilizer, yes. I'm sorry, y'all. It does. All right, but let's get the show cracking. Jay Jim and Terry Lewis, the icons and legends will be joining us. Oh, my God. Producers, right, as you know, I'm from everybody from Michael Jackson to Janet Jackson to us and just name a few.
Starting point is 00:07:20 We're going to be kicking it with them in a little bit. And then we got front. page news, but today it's Bow Wow's birthday. What do you want to play, Jess? I know you're so excited about this. Oh, here we go. It's let me hold you down by Bow Wow and Omario, who are on tour
Starting point is 00:07:35 right now and get the album and drop March 6th, period. It's the breakfast club, come on it. Just going to hell, y'all. No, no, no, no, no. No. No. So his father name is not John. His father name is Joseph. I'm sorry. When you come in with these facts, you don't chat. It's not even the fact. This was an I didn't know moment this morning, Envy. I
Starting point is 00:07:53 didn't know. Nobody, like I said, nobody really be talking about his earthly fall because you still didn't know. You didn't know. No, I didn't know. I thought it was John and it's Joseph the wrong Jay. So Joseph and Mary were his parents. Well, saluted Mimi, Brown, for correcting you. Thank you, me. Oh, yes. Thank you, Mimi. Front page news. Here we go. Let's get some front page
Starting point is 00:08:09 news. What's up, Mimi? Good morning. Good morning. How are you doing this morning? I'm good now. Thank you, Mimi. Good morning. You are welcome. Good morning. So we start with the war in Iran this morning. Hold on, sorry, having technical difficulties. Okay. So we start this morning and with the war in Iran as it continues this morning. So what we are learning is that the president
Starting point is 00:08:33 and oh my goodness y'all, sorry. Okay, sorry. We started this morning with the war in Iran on multiple fronts. The Middle East is under siege. So the war between the United States, Israel, it is now in its 10th day. Iran is officially named a new supreme leader. That's the most powerful position in the country. So the new leader is 56 year old, 56 years old. He is the previous Supreme leader. He is his son. He's widely seen as a hardliner. He's expected to take a tough stance toward the United States and Israel. So meanwhile, President Trump, he says the U.S. should have a say so in who leads Iran. But Iran, of course, they are pushing back on that, saying that is not going to be the case. But over the weekend, U.S. and Israeli forces, they launched new strikes
Starting point is 00:09:17 inside Iran targeting oil depots, fuel storage sites, and other energy infrastructures in the city of Tehran. So the video coming in, it shows massive explosions, fire lighting up the skyline. Officials say four depots and other major petroleum sites, they were hit. But at the same time, Iran, they are striking back. A drone, it struck a government building on fire in Kuwait. The U.S. military is now confirming that a seventh U.S. troop is dead, bringing the total number to seven. NBC News, they asked Iran's foreign minister, his thoughts on a ceasefire, and this is what he had to say.
Starting point is 00:09:58 U.S. military, you know, installations, facilities, bases, who are attacking us, we are under attack. Why don't you recognize this fact? We are under the attack by US forces in the region. So we have every right to defend ourselves. And how to defend ourselves, we attacked you know, the U.S. basis. This is obvious. This is a very simple fact, and I hope that, and I'm sure that people
Starting point is 00:10:24 would understand that. We are not the one who attacked Americans. We are only defending ourselves. So, meanwhile, President, go ahead. No, I was just going to say, so America knows that it's probably never going to be a ceasefire, and it's never going to be no peace. If the leader that they installed is the son of the man that you killed, it's going to be up to the rest of the life.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Elphor. Yes. What are we doing? For sure. For sure. But meanwhile, President Trump says there will be no deal to end the war. He's actually calling it. He wants an unconditional surrender. That's what he said. And he was asked aboard Air Force One what that means. And he was also asked about Russia and if they could be sharing intelligence with Iran and what that could mean from military sites. Let's listen to both of those responses. longer there's nobody around to cry up. You came to the Russians not to send targeting information and other assistance to the Iranians. If they are, it's not helping much. You take a look at what's happened to Iran in the last week. If they're getting information, it's not helping them. What would it mean to if they were, I mean, even if it's not helping the Iranians particularly much, it's still involving themselves in a conflict.
Starting point is 00:11:42 I guess they'd say we do it against them, wouldn't they add? Yeah, and that response. getting a lot of pushback this morning. Some critics say it's not strong enough. And meanwhile, while the fighting continues, there's growing questions about U.S. troops and if they could be sent on the ground in Iran, officials say the president,
Starting point is 00:12:02 he has quietly discussed deploying ground troops in the area. But that possibility is raising even more questions specifically about a U.S. draft. And could that happen if the war expands? So the White House, they addressed that question on Fox News this week. And let's listen to Press Secretary Caroline Levitt. Mothers out there are worried that we're going to have a draft,
Starting point is 00:12:23 that they're going to see their sons get and daughters get involved in this. What do you want to say about the president's plans for troops on the ground? As we know, it's been largely an air campaign up until now. It has been, and it will continue to be. And President Trump wisely does not remove options off of the table. I know a lot of politicians like to do that quickly, but the president as commander-in-chief wants to continue to accept. assess the success of this military operation.
Starting point is 00:12:52 The president, again, wisely keeps his options on the table. So White House is not ruling out a potential military draft. But Iran for its part says that it is ready for troops on the ground. The country says that they have been preparing for years for the possibility of U.S. troops entering the country, warning that it would, quote, be a disaster for American forces if that were to happen. I mean, everything is just about to get so much worse, man. I was reading that story about how the Trump White House blocked the joint intelligence bulletin from the FBI to warn local law enforcement about increased terror threats linked to the Iran conflict.
Starting point is 00:13:28 And then yesterday you saw the Kansas City airport get evacuated. You know, I heard about it. Was it a plane that had a somebody said there was a bomb on it? Was that a, I think I was going to Nashville or somewhere, I think? That was Friday. Yeah. Yeah. The video where everybody had to put their hands up and head down.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Yeah, we're going to talk about that. Yeah. It's just two. It's just too. much going on. Yeah, it's a lot. Yeah, definitely a lot. And you know, there's a report also, Charleston, to your point, that came out that said taxpayers are spending $1 billion a day. A day. Their money on this, right? So there's that. We talked about gas last week, going up 30%. And then there's another report saying that jet fuel is on the rise, meaning if you're going to travel for spring break,
Starting point is 00:14:09 for summer, just anywhere, tickets are about to skyrocket. So a lot happening here at home. Donald Trump met all expectations. I mean, for everybody, who said how terrible he was going to be I've never seen a person since LeBron James meet all expectations of somebody's prediction of them. Okay, this was, this is, this is, it would be impressive if it wasn't
Starting point is 00:14:29 so sad. I will come up at seven. If you thought speaking of airplanes, if you thought airline seats were already questionable, a little dirty, wait until you hear what's sparking the latest debate. We're going to talk about it. All right. And everybody else, get it off your chest. 800, 585-105.1.
Starting point is 00:14:45 If you need to vent phone lines or wide open call us up let us know how your weekend was it's the breakfast club good morning this is your time to get it off your chest 800 585151 we want to hear from you on the breakfast club hello who's this hey jess how you doing hey what's up y'all how you doing
Starting point is 00:15:05 hey I was on my way to dialysis and I heard about uh you're talking about that John the Baptist is earthly fathers nah it's Joseph y'all it's Joseph she didn't know yeah I was like I'll I want to get on here and lie. I want to talk to just about this because I'm a fun believer in Jesus. And I don't want to correct you.
Starting point is 00:15:25 I want to, I want to know how this ties in because I ain't never heard this a day of my life and I study. Yeah, no, no, no, definitely correct me. I was already corrected behind the scenes. Mimi Brown for Front Page News. She definitely told him she was like, no, John is Jesus' cousin, girl. Joseph is his father. So I was like, oh, okay. Baltimore Baptist, Baltimore Community College.
Starting point is 00:15:44 No, that's not where I learned church, dumbass. sorry. So, yeah, my bad, brother. Yeah, Joseph is Mary's husband. He's care for him and everything. So I'm like, yeah, it ain't John the Baptist. He baptized Jesus for him to start his
Starting point is 00:16:00 ministry. Right. Oh, okay. If he baptized, oh, all right, he baptized him. All right, cool. So, yeah. John the Baptist baptized Jesus to start his ministry. He paved away for him to start who he is as a Messiah. Oh, so then he was like a spiritual
Starting point is 00:16:16 too far over then. Stop trying to fix it. Thank you, sir. Thank you, sir. I mean, it was still. Only Jess can come here and find a way to piss off Christians early in the morning for no damn reason. No, no, no, no reason. Hello, who's this?
Starting point is 00:16:29 Yo, yo, yo, Chris calling from all. Most on. Chris, what's happening? 843 Monks Corner all day. Yeah, what's going on, man? Good morning, y'all. Solomon, Jeff. Evie was going on with y'all.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Hey, oh, Solomon, man, I need you to front. I need you to front of congregation, man. I need to have a word with you, brother. Yes, sir. Uh-oh. You're from Monscourt, right? Don't ask me stupid questions. You're in the birthday eyes, too, right?
Starting point is 00:16:53 Don't ask me stupid questions, sir. And how do you have decided this? Hey, man, man, why are you in shout out the girls' basketball team Friday morning, man? Oh, they had one state. I found out over the weekend they won state. They won state back-to-back, right? Yeah, yeah, back-to-back. They had the game by Thursday, United against Greenville, man.
Starting point is 00:17:11 I told you were going to shout-out Friday morning. I didn't even find out to this weekend, man. But salute to the Berkeley High School. Female basketball. Yeah, man, I just want to say, salute to the team, the parents, the coaches, man, the whole most quarter, man. That was a good way, man. Back in back, man.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Shout out to them, boy, man, for real. Absolutely. All right. All right, man. Y'all have a goal. Yes, sir. Get it off your chest. 800-585-105-1.
Starting point is 00:17:34 If you need the event, hit us up now. It's the breakfast club. Good morning. Ray, Ray, Ray. Yo, Sala Man. Livy, what up? Are we live? This is your time to get it off your chest.
Starting point is 00:17:43 I got an indoor pool. I'm outdoor pool. We want to hear from you on the breakfast club. We can get on the phone right now. He'll tell you what it is. We live. Hello, who's this? Yo, this Jay from Chicago, man.
Starting point is 00:17:56 What's going on? Hey. Hey, every morning. Good morning. Good morning. Hey, from the shot. What's up? You know, off your chest.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Man, I just experienced everything this weekend. High gas prices and the oil just went up on me. Man, it's me off. Well, it's only going to get worse from here, my brother. Man, look, I just went and got an oil change. My normal oil guy, he says slip up on. every time he gave me together. He had to charge me four price
Starting point is 00:18:21 or $35. $35.00. For the damn. $35 dollars that you're going up on. God. I'm like, come on, this shit.
Starting point is 00:18:29 You can't just do this to me. Hey, the president, Donald Trump said that he was going to make the economy right on day one and he wasn't going to bring us into no new wars. And he absolutely bought us in the new wars that caused the
Starting point is 00:18:40 prices in the economy to shoot up. And they were already up. Like you said, he met every expectation. Shala, man. This is a train, and I'm highly pissed about it, though. I've never seen anything like that. Yeah, I just went up 70s just from over the weekend. I've never seen it.
Starting point is 00:18:56 I drive 40 miles to work every day. Damn. Oh, yeah, I'm in this truck for you. Let me hit that hole for you. There you go. There you go. I've never seen anything like this, man. I've never seen a person meet all expectations.
Starting point is 00:19:09 Last time I saw this was LeBron James. LeBron James was as good as people said he was going to be, and Donald Trump is as bad as people would say. he was going to be. Oh, man. This man is bad. You need to get up out of it, man. I would say that, but it's too much for the radio.
Starting point is 00:19:29 Y'all have a good morning. You too now. Hello, who's this? Imani. P.C. Moni. Where are you coming from? Hey, I'm calling from Long Island, New York. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:40 Get it off your chest, Mama. So I heard just talking about her not really understanding or just a misunderstanding about the Bible. So I wanted to shout out a movie on Netflix. It's called The Book of Clarence. If someone out there, you know, you're trying to understand the Bible a little bit more, just a little bit more about Jesus in a different way. It kind of just puts it in a more, like, urban perspective.
Starting point is 00:20:04 My child has gotten into it. It's just to help people, you know, that are struggling or dialing anything with faith or just don't know. I'm going to be honest with you. She do not need to watch the Book of Clarence. Like she need the, she need the, like the My Book of Bible studies
Starting point is 00:20:22 that the Jehovah Witnesses gave out with the pictures, like something basic. The Book of Clarence will confuse her. The Book of Clients were confused her, man. Not at all. It's not that I didn't understand or anything or that I just didn't know
Starting point is 00:20:33 that Joseph was his earthly father. That's all. You know what you said. You said John the Baptist was his upper father. I said John at first, but it was the wrong name. She does that all the time. Thank you, E. I'm going to watch Book of Clarence,
Starting point is 00:20:43 but no, I know a lot about the Bible. I just didn't know that Joseph was my man's father. That's all. I ain't even know that. But you ain't go act like you didn't say John the Bapper. I said John to Bappas at first. She'll act like she'll never say John.
Starting point is 00:20:55 And they get mad at people for bringing it up. I'm not mad. But I don't need, I don't need, I don't misunderstand anything. I just didn't know. That's all, Imani. But thank you. You smoking this one, Jess? You're smoking this one?
Starting point is 00:21:06 No, I didn't. Oh. No. Edible. Edible. That's what it was. All right. Get it off your chest.
Starting point is 00:21:12 8-585-105-10. We come back, we got the latest with Lauren. What's up, Lauren? Good morning. Yes, we do. We're going to get into Rihanna. There were shots fired at her home, and I have the latest on everything that went down. You dress like 70 degrees today.
Starting point is 00:21:25 You know, Sabreto from the X-Men? She dressed just like a good one. I mean, it's supposed to be 70 degrees today. Why are you wearing that heavy-ass day? It isn't. And I didn't want to go fully warm outside because I just got finished being sick. Somebody gave her that jacket, and she had to wear it on the show. This jacket is so old and I bought this myself.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Shut up. What's the brand? It's like pretty little thing or something. Okay, I don't believe her. All right. Yeah, I believe. And that's not even black. She dressed just like saber tooth.
Starting point is 00:21:49 Wow. She's breakfast, come on. Yeah. Remember, fuck your talk, LL. Cool, babe. Yeah. I'm not dumbing myself. Damn. I'm being myself.
Starting point is 00:21:58 That source is tough. I'm the home guy that knows a little bit about everything and everything. The little brown girls look at you and go, I want to be like you. Take me through that. The latest with Lauren Lewis. Take me through that. On the breakfast club. L.L. Coobe.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Talk to me. L.L. Cubey. Good morning, y'all. So really scary scene that happened yesterday at Rihanna's home. So when the news first broke, there were, like, small reports. I saw it just on X first, and it was like shots fired. Rihanna's home. And I'm like, there's nobody this can be real.
Starting point is 00:22:33 So I reached out to LAPD and Beverly Hills Police. And at first, when they first sent out any information, all they said was they confirmed that there were shots that were fired. They got the call at 1.15 p.m. and responded by 121. They said that they got on scene, that there were no injuries, and that the suspect was found and taken into custody. But they said nothing else. And then all of a sudden, all these details started releasing from the LA Times because the LA Times heard police dispatch audio.
Starting point is 00:22:59 So they updated with not only were shots fired, there were 10 shots that were fired at Rihanna's home yesterday. The shots were fired from across the street from her home out of a car. Now, at least one of the rounds penetrated a wall. of Rihanna's home and there were other rounds that were found in a like an RV that she had parked outside of her house and I'm assuming that's the RV that her and Rocky used remember when they did that drive up the coast I don't know if you guys remember that but and then another place on her home now they do mention that when they arrested the suspect who they are
Starting point is 00:23:31 describing as a 30 year old female that the gun was found now there are some outlets reporting and again police have not confirmed any of this this is all based off of the LA times and audio that they're saying that they heard in their law enforcement sources, but police won't confirm this to me. But they're saying that when they pulled over this woman, it was about 30 minutes after the original 911 call came in.
Starting point is 00:23:53 She was parked outside of Rihanna's house, and allegedly that shooting happened from her car. It was a white Tesla. A helicopter observed the Tesla pull off, and they followed this Tesla to a shopping center in Sherman Oaks, which is like not too far away from Beverly Hills. It's probably about maybe 20 minutes
Starting point is 00:24:09 if that. And that's where they arrested. her. Now they described the car. It was a cream, or they described what she was wearing. She was wearing a cream-colored blouse. Her car was dirty at the bottom, they say, and the suspect's hair was in braids. It's how they described it. Her feet was probably dirty, too. That's horrible, man. First of all, I'm glad that nobody in
Starting point is 00:24:26 Rihanna's house was hurt. Yeah. Okay? Because, you know, that could have been a very bad situation. And clearly, her house was targeted, right? You shooting somebody's house ten times. You're targeting that person in that house. Now, here's the thing. I mean, so I used to live in L.A. and there's always these videos that go viral of like tour buses pulling up to Rihanna's home
Starting point is 00:24:43 and she'll come out and she'll say hey you know Rihanna is like I mean I've never met her before but I know you guys know her and everyone has always said that she's like very interactive and a lot of her neighbors even after this shooting took place that were interviewed by local outlets we have one from Fox L.A. Talk about the fact that
Starting point is 00:24:59 like how scary it was but the fact that people know she lives there and like she does like she's open to speaking to people when they pull up so it's like targeted but also the fact that everybody knows she lives there so it's like trying to figure out the mode of which police haven't talked about it's going to be a thing as well too. But let's take a listen
Starting point is 00:25:15 to a Fox LA clip. I have one of her neighbors reacting to when he heard the bullets. Bam, bam, bam! And it's like, it's a pretty unmistakable sound. Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, like probably 10 shots. Wow. And it's just one of those things. It's like, that's not a car backfiring. That's not fireworks.
Starting point is 00:25:31 That's somebody shooting a gun. As it turns out it was. I came running out. We both said, did you hear that? I said, hit the floor because you never know, like, how close it is. You know, you could always get hit by a stray. No, I'm not going to lie. He lied just now.
Starting point is 00:25:45 What? He said he came running out. Then he said he told somebody hit the floor. Which one was it, my wife? Which one was it my guy? Maybe he did both at the same time. Who was the tense moment? By the way, if somebody, if I hit gunshots, I'm not running out.
Starting point is 00:25:56 No, you just not. You know, that's number one. But why did he say he ran out and then he told somebody hit the floor? I don't know. Which one wasn't? There were more comments in the post. And there was another person that said that they came running out their home as well. So I think it's because in that neighborhood, they're not really used to hearing that.
Starting point is 00:26:10 So they knew it was something. They were trying to figure out what. I don't know. But there was another person that said they ran out of their house too, but I'm not running out of my house if I hear. But yes, Glad she's okay. And I always wanted to know.
Starting point is 00:26:19 I always wanted to know how does those companies get away with it for like the TMZ company driving to celebrities's houses. Like I've never understood how you get away with that. Well, TMZ doesn't go to Celebrities homes. That is the number of rule on their tour bus. You're not allowed to go to celebrity's homes. And probably for reasons like this so that when things happen, you're not in a conversation of like why people know that the celebrity lives there.
Starting point is 00:26:38 You used to work on them buses, right? That's how started. Yeah, I started. I started giving tours on the bus. A's at Rocky. I Heart Radio is throwing it back. 2010s, the decade. To the days of huge hits and unforgettable albums.

Segregation and the day integration at night. When segregation was the law, one mysterious black club owner had his own rules. We didn't worry about what went on outside. It was like stepping on another world. Inside Charlie's place, black and white people danced. Together, but not everyone was happy about it. You saw the KKK?
Starting point is 00:29:13 Yeah, they were just dressed up in their uniform. The KKK set out to raid Charlie, take him away from here. Charlie was an example of power. They had to crush him. From Atlas Obscura, Rococo Punch, and visit Myrtle Beach, comes Charlie's place. A story that was nearly lost to time. Until now, listen to Charlie's Place on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

Starting point is 00:30:46 or wherever you get your podcast. It was actually one of the first people I ever ran into on the tour. So what did y'all tour? So we tour. So on the TMZ tour bus, we go to all of the spots that are like TMZ's biggest story. So like we go to the guitar center. We go to Chateau Marmont where different things happen. We go to, we go through the 30-mile zone, which is what they go through,
Starting point is 00:31:07 30-mile zone, which is what TMZ stands for, which is like where all the old movies used to be made up. You just tell stories throughout Hollywood some of the biggest restaurants where they've seen certain things and then you talk about the Michael Jackson call that happened when Michael Jackson passed away. But never nobody's house. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:31:23 I always thought that those were like a celebrity sighting toys and y'all were like on a safari. So you kind of are on a safari and you cite people. Like when I was doing it, Mariah, that's actually how I got into the newsroom because I would run into celebrities and interact with them so well. But I ran into Mariah Carey, on like the street next rodeo drive is not rodeo we weren't allowed to go down rodeo
Starting point is 00:31:44 um i ran into it's at rocky i ran into so many people on that tour but we don't go to homes but in l.a that's what i'm saying the way that riana is people would be so astonished to see her in grocery stores or whatever that's normal in l.a you can run into celebrities anywhere you know where she live at that's very dangerous like yeah think about how much she were if she's one of you know like she's one of the top celebrities that we know you know it's just dangerous to know exactly where she living. Very dangerous. And I'll be in contact with the police over there trying to figure out what they determine motive wise and just any other updates. So there will be more here unfortunately. But that's so scary. People are so miserable. You got to be just to
Starting point is 00:32:20 pull up to somebody's house and want to let off 10 shots for no reason. How she could be dealing with some type of mental illness? I don't know. I was going to say it could be that. But also what I was thinking about too is so I remember some years ago, I think it was like 2018. There was a guy that broke into Rihanna's house and he got, of course he was up and all that, but he spent like 12 hours in her house. And that happens with celebrities a lot. Oh, Chris Brown had somebody that did that too. Maybe he had that stalking.
Starting point is 00:32:43 She kept breaking in his house. That happens. Hiding in a different clock there. But now, I mean, it's not okay if it's just Rihanna or just Rihanna. But they have babies now. They got three babies in there. So, like, you know, I just can't imagine being there. We don't know who was home with her.
Starting point is 00:32:57 We just know everybody else is okay. And even if it was a mental illness. It's like, all right, you targeted her house. It's her house. Why wouldn't you just go to any old house You went to her house Oh yeah It's not like celebrities haven't been
Starting point is 00:33:11 You know, tragically taken by fans before I'm saying about Selena You think about John Lennon Like you know sadly Yeah that is scary So I'll keep you guys updated On the latest with everything that's happening over there And just I mean I'm sending them prayers still
Starting point is 00:33:24 Because I'm duchies For sure She's so scared today Yeah Absolutely All right Well thank you so much Now when we come back
Starting point is 00:33:30 We got front page news So don't go anywhere And don't forget Jimmy Jim and Terry Lewis will be joining us in a little bit. It's the breakfast club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ NVJJJLari. Sholomaine the guy. We are the breakfast club. Let's get back in some front page news. What's up, Mimi?
Starting point is 00:33:44 Good morning. NV.J. Shalameen, how y'allamane? How y'allon this morning? Good. Good morning. So we start this hour in New York City where police say a live, homemade explosive device. It was set off outside the mayor's residence during a protest over the weekend. Now, investigators say the device confirmed by the NYPD bomb squad was a real explosive device that could have seriously caused some injury or even killed someone. Now, the chaos, it unfolded Saturday outside Gracie Mansion as an anti-Muslim protests and a much larger group counter protests. They had a clash. Protesters say that, you know, they were disagreeing with what's going on in Israel, but police say that situation unfolded so quickly
Starting point is 00:34:28 and that arrests were made. Here's NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch with more on the investigation. which were a bit smaller than a football, appear to be a jar wrapped in black tape, importantly, with nuts, bolts, and screws, along with a hobby fuse that could be lit. A counter-protester, identified as Amir Balat, an 18-year-old man, lit and through an ignited device toward the protest area.
Starting point is 00:34:59 Witnesses reported seeing flames and smoke as it traveled through the air. Mr. Ballot then ran southbound and gets his second device from a man tentatively IDed as Ibrahim Nick, 19 years old. Mr. Balat lights the device and starts running with it. He then drops the device on the west side of East End Avenue.
Starting point is 00:35:23 Officers immediately secured the area and they took both men into custody. Do we know why it was outside the mayor's house maybe? I was just because that's what the protest was. That was just where the protest was, to my understanding. A total of six people were arrested during the confrontation, including one person who was accused of using pepper spray and three others who were accused of disorderly conduct. Now, there was some back and forth whether the mayor and his wife were home.
Starting point is 00:35:49 They were inside the residence at the time. Both are safe. And now the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, they are now involved in part because investigators say one of the suspects, they referenced ISIS during their questioning. And the protesters were against the war, right? Yes. So the person who threw the bomb was for the war? I'm confused.
Starting point is 00:36:09 So to my understanding, it was, there was a clash between those who were against the war and those who were for the war. Gotcha. Yeah, the person who threw the bomb, I think that's where the investigation is going on. I think they're still trying to figure all of that out, right? Because it all happened so fastly. Now, is this the first thing that happened there? Because I thought they said last week it was something else that happened. happened there another time when he wasn't there.
Starting point is 00:36:33 So, or this was the only one? That's a great question, NB. I'm not sure. I know this is the first one where there was a live bomb that was used. You know, that was actually something that could be detonated that could actually cause some harm, which is why this one is making, you know, national headlines this morning. Very scary. Yeah, very, very scary. And now to Cleveland, a heartbreaking case is unfolding there.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Police say a 28-year-old mother. She is now facing two counts of aggravated murder. murder after the bodies of two young girls were discovered buried in a suitcase earlier this week. Yeah, the mother, or the discovery was made last week by a dog walker who spotted the suitcases in a field near a local high school and called the police. And investigators say the girls have been placed in two separate suitcases and buried in shallow graves. Now, authorities, they have identified the victims as a 10-year-old.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Amar Wilson, an eight-year-old Mila Chapman. They say that they were sisters. Now, officials have not released the cause of death. And detectives say the investigation is still unfolding. Meanwhile, the father of one of the girls is speaking out this morning. Let's listen to some of his emotional testimony. I just feel useless. I couldn't say my daughter.
Starting point is 00:37:48 When it was something so simple, just getting her. You feel a stress giving her. I've been trying to get her for six years. You've been ducking me. You told me I was too family-oriented. That's why you ain't given my daughter. Been trying. been trying, being touched, see he has numerous occasions.
Starting point is 00:38:04 I don't know how long she's been gone. I don't know how long she's been dead. I don't know how long she's been missing. But it could have been prevented. Yeah, I just don't know how you come to that conclusion as a parent. I mean, all of us got kids in this room. I just don't even know how your mind works like that. To say that, my children would be better off dead than in the custody of somebody else.
Starting point is 00:38:26 Jesus, good. That's no sense. No sense. Absolutely not. So that mom now is behind bars. The investigation is continuing. Police are not asking anyone who may have had security camera footage or information from that area to come forward as investigators work to peace what happened. That's horrible.
Starting point is 00:38:43 Yeah. And switching gears a little bit. I know we were talking about this last hour. Have you seen that viral video of passengers on the Southwest airline raising their hands while police walk through the cabin? Yes, we did. Okay. So look it up, Jess. It was going viral.
Starting point is 00:38:57 It's literally probably as soon as you open your timeline. will probably pop up. So that looked very, very scary, but here's the context behind that. So the Southwest flight, it was diverted, it was heading to Fort Lauderdale being diverted from Atlanta after passengers became concerned about a man's behavior on board.
Starting point is 00:39:14 But officials say it turned out to be a misunderstanding. So the passenger had simply set a timer on his phone so he would know when it was time to pray for Ramadan. Police said they met the plane when it landed in southwest said the crew. It diverted the flight out of abundance of caution.
Starting point is 00:39:30 And they apologize to the passengers for the delay, but that's literally all it was. They heard a, like a tick. Who called the police? Who seen him set the timer and say he had a bomb on him? Well, I don't know that came from passengers, but who called the police were the flight attendants. The flight attendants definitely called the police on that. So it turned out to be just someone setting their timer so they knew when to pray.
Starting point is 00:39:53 Damn. I mean, listen, anxiety is high right now, man. People are scared to death. and you know you got an administration that's you know telling the FBI and DHS not to inform local law enforcement and threats and you know you hear things about what happened at Gracie Manning you see what happened at the Kansas City Airport yeah you know it's not right because that's that that's profiling but still
Starting point is 00:40:15 I like you said anxiety is something I'm gonna say something that's what you're telling me to do that's right people don't want to take any chances these days better be safe than sorry so I mean and also staying on Southwest so if you've flown recently, maybe if you've flown Southwest recently, you know that you know, sometimes when you get it on the seats, you get on the flight, it's not exactly the cleanest, but now Southwest Airlines, they are facing backlash
Starting point is 00:40:39 after reports have come out that they may start prioritizing, cleaning the more expensive seats, while doing less to clean the seats on the back of the plane. So according to information, why do we notice? We should even notice. No, we should not, but it gets better. So according to information that
Starting point is 00:40:56 leaked from inside the airline, Southwest, has been experimenting with a new cleaning approach that is designed to speed up how planes can quickly turn around and get back, you know, back into the air. So under the approach, the deeper cleaning would focus mainly on the extra leg room seats for the front of the plane and the seats that cost more. Those are the seats that cost more while the rest of the cabin may only get, you know, like a, just a quick once over. So that means flight attendants would still pick up the trash, straighten the cabin, but there are concerns that things like tray tables, armrest, seats, and the economy might not get the same level of cleaning in between, flights. So a union leader representing Southwest Airlines, they said that that is not true with spreading online, but some are comparing it to the Titanic where the wealthy passengers enjoy luxury while everyone else is left in worse conditions. So, yeah, capitalism is ruined
Starting point is 00:41:44 us. And I don't believe that story either. And the reason I don't believe that story, because I just don't think that's how your mind would work if you work on a Southwest flight. I'm just going to clean the front. But F the back, like people aren't going to complain. Like, no, nobody's doing that. Yeah. That's crazy. Yeah, well, that's what they are, that's what they're saying. I've seen it a couple of times, but, and there's a lot of things going on with Southwest right now, like extra. But, you know, since they did the free seating now, people are complaining about there's no bin storage. People are complaining that, you know, if you put your child in row two, you're all the way back in row 40.
Starting point is 00:42:14 So they're having some trouble lately in the press. They better figure it out. Yeah. Better figure it out. What happens? Well, God bless Southwest and God bless Spirit. Okay. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:42:27 What do your spirit got into this? You know, God bless, amen. God bless those Greyhound buses in the sky. Sluo the Delta, man. Delta hosts. Sluo Delta, jet blue. American, United. Alaska.
Starting point is 00:42:43 No, no. Come on, Mimi. Chill out. All right, Mimi's from Alaska, by the way. Right. And so I got to rep Alaska Airlines. They always hold me down. You know what's crazy?
Starting point is 00:42:54 I never even thought about flying Alaska Airlines because in my mind, They only go to Alaska. No. Actually, I used to catch that flight to L.A. It's a flight. They got like two main flights to L.A. every day.
Starting point is 00:43:04 I used to catch it. Now, Alaska's all right. Yeah, it's good. I heard it's cold on the plane. That's that true. It's not. Shut up. No, shut up.
Starting point is 00:43:12 That's front page news. Thank you, Mimi. Yes. Thank you. All right. That's your front page news. Mimi Brown. Follow me at Mimi Brown TV.
Starting point is 00:43:19 All right. Everybody else, when we come back, Jimmy Jim and Terry Lewis will be joining us. So don't move. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. is DJ NVV
Starting point is 00:43:27 Just hilarious Shalaman N the guy We are the Breakfast Club La Rosa is here as well We got some special guests In the building Who we got, who we got? Some icons, some legends
Starting point is 00:43:36 They're back in their second time on the show Ladies and gentlemen Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis Welcome The icons Thank you for having this Well how y'all feeling First and foremost?
Starting point is 00:43:46 Oh, I feel great man You know Busy I like that But if I'm not busy I got to get busy Being busy So that's just what it is I always say
Starting point is 00:43:55 artists reach out to you guys like they should. I mean, because you put up so many hits on the board, so many points on the scoreboard. I wonder if the younger artists really say, you know what, I got to tap in with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Sometimes, sometimes. I mean, what happens now is because so many of the artists
Starting point is 00:44:11 are tapping into the 80s and the 90s, they're either sampling our stuff or they'll just call and say, hey, well, you could get down with me and do some stuff. You know, so, yeah, so that definitely's happening, which I think is very cool, you know. And if you don't know, if you're just joining us, Jimmy, Jamie, Jamie, Terry Lewis, icons,
Starting point is 00:44:27 let's think they work with artists from Janet Jackson, Prince, Usher, Mirage, Mariah, G. Blige, Mariah Carey, George Michael, Boyston, Man, New Edition, Shaka Khan, Tony Braxton, her, SOS, Bay, Yolanda Adams, just to name a few. I don't even like to say that y'all worked with those artists. Those artists worked with y'all. Yeah. Because y'all shaped culture.
Starting point is 00:44:44 There was a period where y'all sound is what absolutely positively shaped culture. Well, it's a team sport. You know, it's a team sport. I mean, we work with really talented people. I always say we work with talented people. people, they make us look good, you know? So that's what it is. And it's a team sport, even, you know,
Starting point is 00:45:00 us being here with y'all today because we could make all the music we would want to. And if there wasn't a delivery system where people could actually hear it, without y'all talking us up or playing our songs and that, it's like the treat that falls in the force and nobody knows about it. So Terry has a theory on that. He says, we don't make hits. We just make music. Y'all make it hits. Everybody makes it.
Starting point is 00:45:23 It takes the whole ecosystem. create a hit. Do you think producers today still shape culture the way that y'all did or has like the algorithm replaced the producer ear, so to speak? I don't think algorithms will ever replace anything. That's just people who don't know having a way to know something. Still, it comes from the gut, man. What makes people feel something, what makes the hair on your arm stand up,
Starting point is 00:45:49 you know, and make you get goosebumps. That's what moves the needle. All the rest of it, man, is just people talking about. about things that they don't know nothing about. Yeah, it went that way, this way. It's trending that way, but it doesn't always trend the way that you wanted to go or what you think is going to do.
Starting point is 00:46:04 And if someone knew that equation, oh, man, everybody had a hit. Everything they do would be here. That's right. You know, we just recently had Teddy Riley up here, right? We were talking about the new Jack swing era, and we talked about Teddy and Keith. And I was thinking of myself,
Starting point is 00:46:19 shouldn't Jimmy Jim and Terry Lewis's name be added to creating that new jack swing sound? And do you have a feel away when sometimes you guys are not mentioned in that creation of that? I feel like Teddy is a king of New Jack Swing. Meaning that he took that style, patented it, and gave us something to all be a part of it or follow along with it. I feel like the first New Jack Swing song, although there was no title for it, there was no moniker for it. It's probably Janet Jackson Nasty, which was Control Album, which was 40 years ago, year so we saw make everybody feel old 40 years ago that album came out um but that's i i think that
Starting point is 00:47:01 and i remember the first time we heard i want her um by keith and i remember we were with babyface in l.a we were just hanging out in a club and we that song came on and we all thought it was nasty at first because like the little t t tl-l-l-l-l-l-l-lint like the little synthesizer parts and then babyface said oh no l-a said oh no that's key sweat that's key sweat that's dope i like that and then baby face goes yeah kee's cool but the dude behind you him, Teddy Riley, he's the one. So Face was the one that really turned us on to Teddy Riley and
Starting point is 00:47:30 love what Teddy does. So I think we're part of it, but I think there's no question that he's a king of New Jack's wing. By the way, and I'll tell you a quick Teddy Riley's story. So I always said, my theory was the foundation of hip hop was always James Brown, right? It was always based on
Starting point is 00:47:46 funky drummer or the Lynn Collins Think, you know, the tambourine and that, was across so many hip-hop records. But I always said the foundation of New Jack Swing was Casey and the Sunshine Band. Oh, yes, sir. Right? And everybody said, no, no, what are you talking?
Starting point is 00:48:00 What are you talking about? So when I interviewed, I had a show on Sirius X-M back in the day, and I actually interviewed Teddy. And I told him that theory. And he laughed. And he said, oh, my God, he said, can I tell you something? He said, you know the baseline of I want her? And he goes, doong, doong, boom, boom, boom, right?
Starting point is 00:48:18 He said, that's the way I like it, Casey and the Sunshine Band. You listen to that song? It's the same baseline. The other foundation of that is I get lifted. That's Casey and the Sunshine Band. George McCrae sang the song, but Casey in the Sunshine Band played it and produced it. So he said, yeah, you're absolutely right.
Starting point is 00:48:39 So I was like, okay, cool. So now I can go to people that I think I'm nuts and go, no, I got it from the guy. But Teddy's amazing. Absolutely amazing. The more conversations that I'm a part of here where I learned so much about like music history, I'm like, is there ever going to really be a way to really archive all of the hip-hop R&B,
Starting point is 00:48:57 so real music history? Because every time I talk to somebody, I learned something new or a different angle way to think about it. Like, do you guys think we'll ever really be able to document all of it? And we're doing it right now? Yeah, I think you can. It's just that for music, I don't think anyone can take credit because everything is based on something else. You know, the shoulders that we stand on dictate kind of where we can see our purview on something. And so everybody has something in their air
Starting point is 00:49:23 that affects them in another way. And we just keep taking in another place. But it all is based on the same stuff. So nobody can claim credit for anything. Because like Casey, that was my favorite stuff. Oh, yeah. That was your theme song, right? Do a little dance.
Starting point is 00:49:39 I'll be in the club. Yeah, do a little dance, make a little bit of love. Get down to that. I come there with the swag. Yeah, that's right. That was it. Well, congratulations on your Las Vegas. residency coming in April.
Starting point is 00:49:52 Thank you. How does it feel to have that? That's big. That's nice. You know, about probably, we might have talked a little bit about it when we did our album, when we did our Jammin' Louis volume one album, but we had said back at that time, there was three things we wanted to do. We wanted to work with Babyface,
Starting point is 00:50:06 which we ended up doing, which was great. We said we wanted to do our own album, which we did Jammin Lewis Volume 1, as Volume 2 is on the way. But then we also said we want to go play our own music live. Because if you think about it, we started off before we were songwriters and producers, we were musicians, you know, playing in bands and playing everybody else's hit songs. And that was
Starting point is 00:50:26 part of our learning process, part of our education, how we learned to even songwrite and produce. And so now, going back full circle for us, we get a chance to play some hit songs, but they just happen to be ours, and go back to our musician roots. So we're really, really excited about it. And Vegas is a perfect place to do it. And we got a nice little intimate room called Voltaire at the Venetian resort, and it's going to be nothing but hits, as we call it, but we're also going to be telling the stories behind
Starting point is 00:50:57 the songs, like the way those songs were made and all that, and we think it's going to be a great little format, a little time travel, a little virtual time travel. So all 42 Billboard number ones, we're going to hear? We're going to get as many as we possibly can. Yeah, we definitely are. I tell people it's going to be more of a
Starting point is 00:51:13 tasting menu. Like, we're not going to do, like, whole seven-minute remix of something. Yeah, yeah, no, we're not going to do that. But we'll hit you with that intro. We'll get you there, you know, verse, course, you know, might hit a bridge or something. Got to hit bridges because we love bridges.
Starting point is 00:51:28 We got to hit the bridges and whatever. And then boom, we run on to the next. So it's more like a mixtape or more like if a DJ's doing a mashup. It's more of that kind of thing. You guys work with so many people. I'm sure all these artists will be there. Will it be some of those things where somebody's in town and be like, so-and-so's on the stage?
Starting point is 00:51:44 Yeah. Janet Jackson's here, ladies and gentlemen. It's the 40-year anniversary of control, like I said. It absolutely is. Well, the thing that happened for us was we kind of tested this concept. Well, we went to Japan. We did like, I think, 16 shows in Japan or something like that in the past couple of years, just to kind of test the concept of what it is.
Starting point is 00:52:02 And what happens is if you have friends in the audience, most of the time they'll want to come on stage. So we did a show in Atlanta during Labor Day last year. And for instance, and I will say Ruben Stuttered is kind of our male singer, because he can handle anything from Alexander O'Neill to Usher to whatever. and when we started doing Bad Girl, he just walked where Usher was sitting and Usher was there watching, just enjoying the show. And he kind of looked at Usher and like,
Starting point is 00:52:27 and Usher got on stage, hit, you know, hit Bad Girl, hit You Remind Me. And it was like, oh, okay. So we always say you never know who's going to show. And that's where we look. And, you know, listen, we talked to Dr. Dre yesterday. He said he's going to come. He's going to come play cowbell is what he said.
Starting point is 00:52:44 I said, we put a cowbell up in the front. On the catwalk. Yeah, on the catwalk. Kyle Bell on the catwalk. We got a catwalk that goes out in the audience, which is cool. So everybody gets a good seat and stuff. It's going to be a lot of fun, man. And yeah, there's going to be a lot of friends dropping through.
Starting point is 00:52:59 And you never know. Each night's going to be different. We're doing six nights. It's a limited residency. But each night will be a little bit different. Is this the first time that you guys are ever approached about a residency? We did one other one. Well, for us, yes, for Jimmy and Terry, yes.
Starting point is 00:53:13 We did do a residency with the time, with our group the time. Got you. Right after we did the Grammys back in 2000, maybe, I can't, I shouldn't, I didn't remember what year it was. I can't remember yesterday. No, I always say, I remember 40 years ago better than 40 minutes ago. But, you know, that's how it goes. But we were approached because we performed on the Grammys that year. It was a 50th anniversary of the Grammys.
Starting point is 00:53:37 And we performed with Rihanna, actually. And I remember when we came off, everybody said, hey, what are y'all going to do? And we said, this is just a one-off. And they said, no, no, what you have? And then a guy that actually ran the Flamingo Hotel, Tony Braxton was appearing there, but Tony was having some health problems. And he said, I got three weeks that I can put you all in if you all want to do a residency. So at the time, we did a residency. And it was during the summer.
Starting point is 00:53:59 And it was great. It was probably the best summer vacation we ever had. That was the greatest. Yeah. Just do what you love, man, and be done by, you know, we go on at seven. We're done by nine and we're having dinner with our family. Yes. It was great.
Starting point is 00:54:10 Terry said it's the least we ever worked in our life. Yeah, never worked at it. It was great. I always wonder about that time with the time, no pun intended, but how did Prince contribute to your growth as just produces, musicians, artists, everything? I don't know, I'll start off by saying the reason we're here is because of Prince. I mean, Prince was the one that, I mean, I met Prince in junior high school. We went to junior high school together, to piano classes together and stuff.
Starting point is 00:54:34 We both knew how to play, but it just got out of the side of class a little bit, you know. But he was the one that really, and I will say Morris Day, because Morris actually wrote, There's a song called The newest tracks. Let's go. New music. And the next big thing. Always on the new music first.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Your first place to hear it all. Because you're going to like it, love, or want to play it twice. I heart new music. Your digital station for brand new drops, fresh vines, and tomorrow's bangers. I think we need something new. Discover I heart new music.

Starting point is 00:57:01 We didn't worry about what went on outside. It was like stepping on another world. Inside Charlie's place, black and white people danced. Together, but not everyone was happy about it. You saw the KKK? Yeah, they were dressed up in their uniform. The KKK set out to raid Charlie, take him away from here. Charlie was an example of power.
Starting point is 00:57:28 They had to crush him. From Atlas Obscura, Rococo Punch, and visit Myrtle Beach, comes Charlie's place. A story that was nearly lost to time. Listen to Between Us on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Party Up on the Dirty Mind album. And Morris actually wrote that song or the track of that song because Warner's wanted Prince to do something a little more funky because he had gone into more of his rock thing.
Starting point is 00:59:02 And Morris gave that song to Prince, and Prince said, what do you want? He said, I'll give you 30 grand or I'll give you whatever amount of money. He said, oh, I'll get you a record deal. and Morris said, I'll take the record deal. And Morris said, okay, and then Prince said, put a band together, and we'll get you going. And Morris came to our band, and we were actually like a competing band
Starting point is 00:59:19 of Morris back in the day. But he came to us and said, okay, y'all are going to be the band. And we're like, okay, cool. And that's what got us going. That was back in 81. So that was the thing that got us going and put us on the map. So all thanks to Prince, all thanks to Morris Day, they're the ones that started us.
Starting point is 00:59:35 And of course, we got, you know, the famous story, we got fired by Prince. but Terry likes to say he didn't fire us he freed us and literally the same night that Prince freed us we were at Sunset Sound he freed us
Starting point is 00:59:48 we went over to a studio called Larrabee right across the way and ended up mixing what became our very first hit and that was just be good to be by the SOS band so literally the same night we got freed we had our first hit and you know the rest of history after that
Starting point is 01:00:04 very much a Hollywood story well God knows bro yeah God definitely knows I'm sure y'all still maintained a relationship with Prince after that. I think when people have these conversations about, like, who's the greatest artist of all time? I don't think they really understand what people like Prince did, or even like a Stevie Wonder. The fact that they could write, sing, produce, play instruments. Like, they're not just singing the song somebody wrote and dancing.
Starting point is 01:00:30 Yeah. You know? I think the impact, I mean, it's a ripple effect. And that's the thing that you, when you talk about Prince, and think about this, he played every instrument. His debut album to me is like the best debut album of all time. Because he played every instrument. He sang every note,
Starting point is 01:00:46 wrote every song. I mean, he did everything on that record. And so that was his thing. But if you think about it, the way we dressed, the way we, and you think about the ripple effect now, you know,
Starting point is 01:00:58 when you hear like, you know, a Bruno Mars, there's no Bruno Mars without Prince. And he acknowledges that. Matter of fact, Bruno Mars thanks us. He's like, when he had 24 carrot and all that, stuff out, he was like, thank you and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, you know. So, to
Starting point is 01:01:12 me, that's the ripple effect and that's all because of Prince. And the fact that we're still here, we get a chance to be blessed to talk to you guys today, that's because of Prince. So that's that ripple effect. So when you talk about the greatest, some of it is what they did in the moment, but also that ripple effect that they have, you know, and Prince's, there's nobody
Starting point is 01:01:28 better to me. And y'all have worked with so many different people over the years. Have y'all ever turned down an artist, writing for an artist or producing, because I ain't trust them with your music, or it didn't align with y'all? Yeah, we've turned down things for sure, but not for that reason. We didn't feel like we were the best people for the job.
Starting point is 01:01:46 So we are fans of the people that we work with. We're fans of music. And we love music, retro and forward, whatever. And we want to protect it. So we protect ourselves by not doing something that we're not inspired by. I'd like to say we don't really, if we say no, it's always with a butt. it's like no but you know who would be really good for this
Starting point is 01:02:11 is this person so we redirect a lot of times we will redirect and get the right people involved or a lot of times we will advocate we were talking about it the other day so pink is up for the rock and roll hall of fame this year and pink came to Minneapolis to do work on some stuff with us and we said well you play us what you got so far
Starting point is 01:02:32 and she started playing all this stuff and it was the stuff that Linda Perry did with her and Dallas Austin did with her. We were like, what do you need us for? You got a record, right? And she said, well, L.A. thinks that, you know, because it's so different from what I did before, because her first album was a very R&B album. And I said, okay, so we called L.A., and I said, take your record company hat off for a minute and just put your musician hat on. I just want to give you two examples. And I said, the first one was a girl in Canada. She was popular in Canada.
Starting point is 01:02:59 She was popular in Canada. Had a few hits and stuff. She came to America. She made a record called Jagged Little Pill. And he said, Alanis Morris said, and I said, yeah. And I said, then there was a guy. I said he had a double platinum album, big record. I said the next album he came out, changed his whole style, had bikinis and leg warmers and a trench coat. He said, Prince. And I said, yeah. And he said, so you're telling me you think Pink is Prince and Alanus Morrisette.
Starting point is 01:03:21 And I said, yes. I said, now put your record company back on him. You have your first single. He said, what's that? I said, get the party started. Because that song will not lose her audience that she already has, but it's going to start gaining her that audience where she's trying to go. And I remember when the album came out like three months later,
Starting point is 01:03:39 everybody started calling us. This is before internet or anything. You couldn't just text people. They would call us and they go, what did y'all do on Pink's album? We said, we didn't do nothing on the album. Well, she thanks you in the line of notes. She said, thank you, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
Starting point is 01:03:51 And I said, oh, we made a phone call. So that's it. So we've done a lot of that. So that wasn't a no, but it was, you know, you got what you need right here. You don't really need anything. Why does pop music often look at as a white genre when it was a black producer like a Quincy Jones
Starting point is 01:04:09 and a black artist like a Michael Jackson and black producers like YouTube and a black artist like Janet Jackson who changed the trajectory of pop music. Well, pop, I think, the intention of pop was only to refer to it as popular. And I don't think it was race or gender specific at that point. I think people have a need to own everything.
Starting point is 01:04:31 White people. Yes, okay. others have the need to claim everything and I think that messed the game up I actually prefer how they do it in Europe
Starting point is 01:04:47 like there's one chart and if you want it you own and if you're not you're not so if the competition is fair at that point let the games begin and let the music speak for itself so I don't know
Starting point is 01:05:00 it's a way to separate what's the difference between gospel and Christian I have no idea One is white and one is black Oh yeah yeah yeah That's true Damn I haven't thought about it
Starting point is 01:05:12 Yeah so So everybody needs Has the they feel the need to put things in boxes Right But we're talking about God Are we talking about God? Yeah Same God, right?
Starting point is 01:05:22 I think Yeah How do y'all feel about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame conversation And Dean Simmons He got in trouble again Because he was saying That
Starting point is 01:05:30 Basically artists that are hip hop or R&B should not be the title is rock and roll in the rock and roll hall of fame that's kind of piousy
Starting point is 01:05:39 but you know what I'm that's how he feels and that he's trying to protect himself in that because black folks
Starting point is 01:05:46 created rock and roll yes right so how can he be bad at the other people that are getting in because they created the genre
Starting point is 01:05:55 that you specifically want to claim right so you can't be mad at other people for getting in because you can be
Starting point is 01:06:03 Well, it just doesn't work. It just doesn't work on any level. Yeah. Well, I mean, if you think about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the first people that were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame right at the very beginning, you know, you had Chuck Barry and Fast Domino and, you know, it was the black pioneers, the people, Lil Richard, like the people that really invented what is known as rock and roll.
Starting point is 01:06:26 And rock and roll was not, at the origin, was not a white dude with long hair and a guitar. That was not what it was. It morphed into that, but I think we see now it changing to be more inclusive. And also rock and roll is more of an attitude than a genre of music anyway, you know. And I think hip hop, if anybody embodies, you know, aggressiveness, different, you know, ness coming through adversity to make music, that's the hip-hop community. So to me, that's as rock and roll as it gets. And he credits them as well when he talks about it.
Starting point is 01:07:02 But it's just like the irony of like that credit and then the separation. And then it sparks a whole conversation again about that barrier and that guideline. Yeah, well, maybe they should just call it the Hall of Fame. I agree. I should just be the music Hall of Fame. Yeah. If you want to be, you know, specific in a way that is general, you know, it's about the music, isn't it? About the contributions, isn't it?
Starting point is 01:07:26 Well, I think the importance of it is that I think the music, the conversations around music are always great. So if somebody has to say something that's, you know, slightly off, you know, just off, I guess. Ignat. Okay. Then I think it's great that we have the conversation about it because it keeps music important and keeps it relevant. And I'm glad we have the conversations. And I think, you know, once again for younger people, we're coming at it from, I mean, we're coming from old guys,
Starting point is 01:07:52 you know, but I think that everybody needs to know that conversation and how those kinds of things happen. Because otherwise you think that it's just a status quo, you know, the things who are always like that. I mean, a whole different thing, but I know my kids, for instance, when my kids were growing up, Obama was the president. They thought, oh, that's normal.
Starting point is 01:08:10 That's what it is. And it's like, no, no, no, no. It's not normal. And now they see what the new normal is. And they're like, whoa, wait a minute now. You know, because they historically don't have that. So I think you have to have the context. And I think that,
Starting point is 01:08:24 but I love that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And the other thing about that is the people did vote on that. That room is, is changing a lot. I mean, because it goes to the fan vote also, but that room in that room is changing. And so I think that there's a need to,
Starting point is 01:08:39 you know, as we, people like Luther Vandross on the ballot this year, which I think, you know, think about Luther Vandross, he was a major contributor to David Bowie. Yeah. You know, so I just think that the connections and those types of things are really good, but I think the conversations are really healthy to have,
Starting point is 01:08:54 you know, the debates are healthy. Now these brothers got to go. I know they got to go. I got one last question. When it's all said and done, do you want Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to be remembered for the hits or for the blueprint you're created for producers
Starting point is 01:09:05 to control their own death? Ooh, it's a good question. Well, I always say, the story I always say about that. Michael Jackson asked, he said, how do you want to be remembered? And I just said, I want to be remembered as a nice guy.
Starting point is 01:09:20 And he said, no, no, no, no. Is it because of all your hit records or all you sold someone? I said, no, no, no, that's all statistical stuff. So, like a chart position, that's statistical. I said, I want to be remembered as a nice guy. And about a year later, I'd sample some of Michael Texas stuff. And they said, oh, you'll never clear that. You'll never clear that. And I called Michael. He called back and he says, I know you want to ask me a question, but can I just tell you, whenever they asked me, what's like working with you guys? I just go,
Starting point is 01:09:46 Jimmy Jam is the nicest guy. And I said, thanks, Michael. And he goes, yeah, yeah, I'll clear. Have John Brinkett call and I'll clear the sample and whatever. We ended up not even using the sample. But my point was, is that was the impression. And I said to Michael, I said, the good news, Michael, I said when people ask me what it was like to work with you, I tell them the exact same thing. He's a nice guy. So I always want, I would always go for that over the talent, but the way you articulated as sort of a blueprint or sort of a, you know, an inspiration or all of that. That's what we would like to be, I think. You know, that, I mean, the hits are great in the moment, but once again, as I talked about earlier with Prince, you know,
Starting point is 01:10:20 Prince had some big hits. But his effect on people and the fact that we're even sitting here right now, we want to be that for people. We want to be the reason that. They're sitting here and being able to do what it is that they do. And for to have them say, I mean, I'll tell you, we're talking about, you know, white people. Charlie Puth. Charlie Puth came on a thing we did the other day. And he was like, y'all, the reason I even make cords the way I make my cords and that kind of stuff, you know. So that's the kind of impact.
Starting point is 01:10:48 Yeah, Charlie's a good dude, right? But you want, that's the kind of impact you want to have. And I think that means a lot to us to have that. And I would just add a little bit of sauce on that. Sandwich is really nice, Jim and Jam. Put a little sauce on it, Terry Lewis. I think from the age that we came into this, you know, there were people before,
Starting point is 01:11:08 certainly Gamble and Huff, who was our blueprint. Yes. You know, Quincy Jones, who was like a mentor. I love the way our career arc and business acumen helped to shape the business side of it
Starting point is 01:11:24 for producers that came after us. Now, although that, that's all changed now because nobody gets paid now because of streaming. But we actually made the producers have some power at a certain point because before they were just tools and we became personalities and tools. And that helped us, just like you guys are.
Starting point is 01:11:48 Y'all are personalities. So that gives us a voice even a louder bullhorn. So we were able to advocate for all the people that we love. You know, I love musicians. I love artists. I love producers. Anybody who's creating music. And Kenny Gamble said it best because as my mentor,
Starting point is 01:12:06 we would always talk to him about things. He said, you know, our music is supposed to be pure, wholesome. It's supposed to feed and nourish us. So we have to be careful with what we do in terms of what we create for our communities. And I still believe that. But there's room for all of it. Yep. You know, but for every, you know, piece of fried chicken you eat you better.
Starting point is 01:12:26 you the salad. Ladies and gentlemen, Jimmy Jam and Tilly Lewis, thank you brothers for joining us. And you know, anytime you guys are in town pull up on us, please. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:12:37 And listen, tickets can be purchased for their residency at a VoltaireLV.com. VoltaireLV.L.V.com April 17th through the 26th and thank you, brothers again. Thank you, it's the breakfast club.
Starting point is 01:12:49 Good morning. Let's get right to the latest. Can we just fuck your talk, LL.Cube? Yeah. I'm not dumbing myself down. being myself. That source is my story. I'm the homeguard that knows a little bit about everything and everything.
Starting point is 01:13:04 The little brown girls look at you and go, I want to be like you. Take me through that, take me through that. The latest with Lauren Lewis. On the breakfast club. L.L. Coole. Talk to me. So last week, before the weekend, last Friday, we talked about Nikki Minaj's, Nikki Minaj, I'm sorry, Cardi B's concert in Houston.
Starting point is 01:13:25 and when we mentioned that concert, we had a conversation about Stefan Diggs and his mom, or Stefan Diggs' mom attending the concert. And I did not mention on purpose the fact that Nikki Minaj's half-sister Ming attended the concert. I just felt like there was no reason to
Starting point is 01:13:39 because we know that Nikki Minaj's sister and Nikki Minaj, from what we've seen, they're not like super close. And I think people, I knew people were going to make it like such a thing. So why are you mentioning it now? Because Cardi B has responded to her sister attending the concert
Starting point is 01:13:51 and I loved Cardi B's response. So the concert with down in Houston, Ming was there. She was in the crowd. She was enjoying herself. She didn't do anything petty or anything like that that I saw. And then she was also out after the concert and there were videos of her in the section that Cardi B was in.
Starting point is 01:14:07 Now Cardi B has responded to this because of course it went crazy because we know that there's a few with Nikki Benajic Cardi. Let's take a listen to Cardi's response to Nikki's half-sister attending. I feel like that young lady, I feel like she needs guidance. I feel like she just like if somebody comes to see me and they don't and there's no issue, I don't want to play nobody.
Starting point is 01:14:25 in their face and try to be funny if they're not on that type of timing. It just doesn't get you nowhere. I feel like life right now is so beautiful and I feel like being kind has taken me. I've been so kind and I just been thinking before I react and stuff like that and I feel like that's paying off. Sometimes I'd be wanting to blow up because I'd be getting so mad at other shit. I'd be like, you know what? Whatever, Cardi.
Starting point is 01:14:47 Before you curse somebody out, just walk away. Plus, I'm not going to be beefing and doing the most with somebody that I don't know. They're 19 years old. 18 years old. I'm too grown for that and I'm too blessed for that. I don't think that girl's on drama time. I just feel like she's a young kid.
Starting point is 01:15:03 Correct me if I'm wrong, but Mickey, uh, Ming Lee is 20, right? Nikki's 40 plus years old. And they both have said they've never been close. Yes. Yeah, they have. But what's why? They got to talk about a year ago.
Starting point is 01:15:16 Yeah, this shouldn't be a story. She went to go see Cardi B and she said, look, I'm a Cardi B fan. Well, I think the reason why is just because and when you just read it on face value, it's Nikki Menonautie. your sister, but if you don't know the background, then it makes no sense. But I think it got to the point where Cardi responded, because y'all know Cardi watches everything,
Starting point is 01:15:32 but there were so many people that were picking it up. Even Ming herself was like, yo, I went to a concert, like, let it go. But yeah, so I thought Cardi's response was like really great to kind of dead the noise that was trying to happen around it. And she's a little, I'm not little, but she's so much younger than herding. And then just not so much about Ming, but what Cardi said, her being kind to people, like she's too blessed for the drama and everything like that. It's refreshing and great to hear her talk like that
Starting point is 01:15:57 because she is extremely blessed. And we know she'll go off in a minute. Not even talking about this situation, just period. So I love that, you know, her growth as well. Yes. Over the weekend, I also saw too that Bodek Yellow by Cardi B had hit one billion streams on Spotify, which is her fifth song to achieve this in her, you know,
Starting point is 01:16:14 history of invasion of privacy. So, you know, the blessings keep on coming for her. I still be bumping to. Yes. Still be bumping at first. first album. Love it. Yes. Now, in other, you know, big news, so Byron Allen,
Starting point is 01:16:28 now listen, I thought that this was so fire and so fly, and I think a lot of people, if you don't know who Byron Allen is, you should. But over the weekend, it was announced that his media group, Allen Media Group, who owns the Weather Channel, is a production company, he has local TV stations and streaming platforms,
Starting point is 01:16:44 is buying a significant stake in Stars. So he has acquired 10.7% of a stake in Stars through his investment firm and family office, Allen Family Capital. Now, according to the filings, he is paying $25 million for the stake. He's acquiring
Starting point is 01:17:00 it from like a former investment fund. But this is fire because you... Hell yeah. This is amazing. Yes. And I saw this being reported. I remember the conversation I watched at John Hope Bryant's conference that we went to in Atlanta with Byron Allen
Starting point is 01:17:16 and Charlotte. And I was just sitting there thinking like, he does all this stuff so quietly And we talk about how we don't have a hand in, like, television and media, and we have this man doing all of this. And people just aren't talking about it enough. People don't know it, but that's why I'm glad you are reporting it. It's important. Yeah, I thought that that was so far. And I think with this stake, he'll be able to help determine, like, what goes on to the network and just have conversations behind the scenes, which is what we need.
Starting point is 01:17:37 Yeah, Byron is one of the quietest moguls ever in the history of the game. And he grew his business from entertainment because he is a comedian. Yes. You know what I'm saying? He started off as a stand-up comedian, so salute to Byron Allen. That's my guy. I was talking to him this weekend, man. like that that is that is major you know it is that's all he does he just stacks his portfolio
Starting point is 01:17:55 quietly and be chilling cool like he's on the weather channel for years like yes and just be chilling so i thought that that was so fly but um as we end the hour um i want to mention um so we i did a conversation with gina lisa about brittany spears and all the DUI things that are happening yesterday i reached out to the california highway patrol to just check in on any updates on brittany spears and there's nothing there yet um but because her case hasn't even made it over to the DA's office. But I got a lot of pushback for me and Genealisa's conversation. People feeling like, because Gina Lisa said that Britney Spear should still be in a conservatorship.
Starting point is 01:18:32 And people don't like to hear those words at all. But I thought that that was kind of crazy. I'm like, are you guys not watching what's happening right in front of you? Well, I think people, you know, following like what happened with Wendy and everything like that and knowing that sometimes a conservatorship can be a group of people that don't have your best interest at heart. So some people have like, they've like associated that part of it, like the stigma, the bad stigma around, um, conservatorship. I get it. With this.
Starting point is 01:18:55 That's exactly what it is. When they think about it, they think of Wendy Williams not being able to go out and see her dad, not being able to go out and shop. And that's what they think about it. But sometimes it's well needed. But that's why we did the deep dive. It's spending recklessly and all that. That's why I wanted when I did the conversation on the podcast, I didn't just report it. I'm like, let me bring in somebody who can explain how this can be done right.
Starting point is 01:19:13 So please go listen to the full conversation on the latest with Lauren the Rose of the podcast. And over the weekend, there were reports or speculation that Britney Spirits that took the cops on a high speed chase because she's had incidents previously with cars. And police officers had to come out and say, no, that is not true. So all these crazy headlines are happening and coming out and we're following it. And people are like, why would she need some guardianship? But I don't know. So I'll keep you guys updated there.
Starting point is 01:19:38 I'm told this week there should be more updates. And I also checked in on her numbers, what she tested and what she did not test. And I'm told that that should come this week. So that's it in the latest And make sure you go Guys go and listen to the podcast All right Thank you Lauren

Starting point is 01:21:23 He was pardoned my President Trump play his role in the insurrection. And anyone who participates in an insurrection does not love this country, okay? Insurrection are unconstitutional and illegal. And I know people like to shoot these folks bail and make excuses for them and say, well, they thought they were protecting democracy.
Starting point is 01:21:39 They thought the election was stolen and they were trying to intervene. My answer to all that is absolutely not. All right, stop it. Okay, these individuals were terrible people, horrible humans, repeat offenders of all types of crimes, and Andrew Paul Johnson is the latest example of that. Starting point is 01:26:55 Johnson, guilty on five charges, including molesting a child under the age of 12 and a minor under 16. In 2024, Johnson pleaded guilty to entering the U.S. Capitol through a broken window. Police say he used his status as a pardoned rider to course the victim. Johnson now faces up to life in prison. He used his status as a pardoned rioter to coer to court. the victim. Wow. Wow. President Trump does not make good decisions. Okay. At some point,
Starting point is 01:27:23 even the members of the Maga Colt have to be honest about this. Not only was this guy pardoned for January 6 and he shouldn't have been. He also sounds like he would have had a grand old time on Epstein Island. Okay, MAGA, I think y'all got a type. Now, if you're keeping score, President Trump pardoned about 1,500 people connected to the insurrection, and at least 33 of those individuals have been re-arrested, charged our sentence for other crimes since the Capitol.
Starting point is 01:27:47 attack and at least five of those people have committed new crimes after receiving their pardons okay of various assaultment of charges burglary weapons offenses domestic violence DUI possession of illegal materials and now Andrew Paul Johnson sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing two middle school age children what did Maya Angelou say when someone shows you who they are the first time believed him okay well I don't know if Andrew Paul Johnson showed us he was a child molester but he definitely showed us he was a terrible person all right can some of somebody please ask President Trump about all the people he's pardoned who have ended up going back to prison.
Starting point is 01:28:23 Can you ask him specifically about Andrew Paul Johnson? Okay, there are still some honest press corps members out there. Caitlin Collins and CNN. I know you have more pressing issues to be asking the president because there's a lot going on. But I just want to see how he would spin this one. Okay, a man you gave a presidential pardon to for storming the capital on January 6th has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing children. and he used his pardon status to get victims.
Starting point is 01:28:50 Let me be clear. He received a pardon from Trump, and the pardon had nothing to do legally with the crimes he committed, sexually abusing children, but life has a funny way of revealing who people really are, okay, because sometimes when you shine a light on somebody's actions, you realize, you know, January 6 might not have been the worst thing about them. Okay, see, people argue about pardons like there's some kind of
Starting point is 01:29:15 magic eraser like you could you could just control alt delete and suddenly somebody becomes a good person again no you was who you was before you got here okay you was a pedophile before the insurrection you was a pedophile before the pardon you're gonna be a pedophile after all that too okay see a pardon might erase a charge but it can't erase your character please let remit ma give andrew paul johnson the biggest he-ha he-ha ha you stupid motherfucker Are you dumb? That's crazy. People are so disgusting.
Starting point is 01:29:49 So crazy. He used his pardon status to get victims. Wow. To entice the victims. That's crazy. Wow. Well, you'll be sitting down for a long time. He deserves life.
Starting point is 01:29:59 Absolutely. Forever. What he needs. All right. Well, thank you for that donkey today. Yes, indeed, man. And you know what I was thinking, man? Am I the only person who feels off this weekend?
Starting point is 01:30:09 Like on Saturday, I was sitting in an off-Brawway play. I went to go see Heather's, okay, with my, daughter and I just felt the I just felt the shift like something felt off and I mentioned it to a couple of people and they said it's because time moved forward I've never felt like this over no hour moving forward mm-hmm well you haven't felt that on Saturday because it happened Sunday it happened Sunday but I'm saying I felt the shift oh you felt Saturday evening and then when I said it man shut up and then then when I said something I said something about it you know later the next day
Starting point is 01:30:42 people would say it oh it's because time moved forward I'm Like, I've never felt like that because time moved forward. And then Lauren Lurosa came in here today and said, man, that hour moving forward got me feeling off. So I'm like, okay, well, it ain't just me. Who else feels like this? Does anybody else feel like that? Let's open up the phone lines. Let's open up the phone lines.
Starting point is 01:30:59 800-585-105-1. I feel like that as well. But I thought just because I was traveling that, like that hour moved up and my body, I feel like hasn't felt the same yet. I feel like I need my hour back. I need my get back. You can't just take an hour from me and I can't get my hour back. I feel tired. What about you, Jess?
Starting point is 01:31:15 I'm straight. No, you're not. You thought John the Baptist was Jesus' daddy. You came in there early this morning. I talked about John the Baptist was Jesus' daddy. No, no, no, no, no. I'm good, yo. The time didn't mess me up enough, and it's cool.
Starting point is 01:31:28 I'm great. Okay. But let's open up the phone lines. 800-585105-105-1. This weekend was daylight savings time. The clock actually went forward. So you lost an hour of sleep. So we're asking 800-585-105-1.
Starting point is 01:31:41 Has this affected you? Do you feel off? Does something not feel right? Do you need your hour? You need your get back. Let's discuss. It's the breakfast club. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:31:51 It's topic time. Call 800585-105-105-1 to join in to the discussion with the breakfast club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ NV. Just hilarious. Charlemagne de Guy, we are the Breakfast Club. Now, if you're just joining us, we open up the phone lines, 800-585-105-105-1. Shalameh.
Starting point is 01:32:10 And, can I, can I, can I talk for myself? I asked what the guy's name was. but he thinks it's something else. I'm sorry. Can I speak for myself? Okay, yes, I went to go see Heathers, which is a Broadway play, me and my daughter and my wife,
Starting point is 01:32:26 and like just sitting in the play around 7 o'clock, 8 o'clock, I just felt like just off. Like, damn, what the hell? Like, you can just feel like a ship happened. And then the next day I mentioned it to a couple of people and they were like, oh, you feel like that because time went forward an hour. And I'm like, I ain't never felt like that
Starting point is 01:32:42 because time went forward an hour. And then Lauren La Rosa came in here this morning and she said, she felt off. And so I'm just like, well, then, who else, you know, feels that way as well? And is it because the time moved forward? It got to be.
Starting point is 01:32:54 Well, Jess says she doesn't feel any different. Yeah, I'm straight. You know what I mean? Like, I'm good. She also came in here this morning and said, John the Baptist was Jesus' daddy. Thank you. No, I didn't.
Starting point is 01:33:05 Well, I did. That's exactly. She lied. You got to watch her. All right, nica, you lie faster to me some time. No, for real. All right, so I did come here and I said that John, this is not even a topic,
Starting point is 01:33:15 but John is not his father, yo. Joseph is Jesus earthly father. We know that. And that's what, yeah, but I'm saying. But you have his morning and said otherwise. Yeah, I did, but then I corrected myself. Thanks to Mimi Brown, the front page news. She let me know that John was Jesus' cousin.
Starting point is 01:33:31 And then Joseph was his fault. Can we go to the phone lines? Well, hold on. Lauren just sent the text from Chanel, salute to Chanel, who works at Black Effect. Chanel said Mercury is in Gatorade. And so being that Mercury is... Retro great.
Starting point is 01:33:44 Mercury is in Gatorade. is in Gatorade. And being that Mercury is in Gatorade... Y'all talk about me. She said six signs most affected by Mercury being in Gatorade are Gemini, Cancer, which I am, Virgo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Pisces.
Starting point is 01:33:59 Yeah, well, I'm got nothing to do with that. Lawrence and Sagittarius, I'm going to cancel. Hmm, so you're off. Y'all balances off because of the Gatorade and the mercury. Crazy. Let's go to the phone lines. Well, no, there's reasoning for it.
Starting point is 01:34:10 I'll come back. Let's go to the phones, though. Hello, who's this? Good morning, good morning. This is your girl. She's up here. Carolina. Peace.
Starting point is 01:34:16 I just want to speak on. Hey, go on and talk to us. Hold on. Now, your phone sounds like you're frying fish now. Get your phone out that bad now. Can you hear me better? Yeah, we can hear you now. A little bit.
Starting point is 01:34:28 All right. Well, I just want to kind of like speak on to talk this morning. I really do. There was a shift on Saturday. But something is definitely happening. I just couldn't even explain the feeling yesterday or Saturday. Me too. I felt it Saturday.
Starting point is 01:34:42 Saturday evening. I was just like, yo, what just happened? Like, I felt it. Like, oh, my God. Hello, who's this? Hey, y'all. It's your girl, Shonda. So, I just got in my car.
Starting point is 01:34:52 And the first thing I heard was Charlemagne mentioning, like, the weird feeling that kind of, I feel like maybe a lot of people's having. But I felt it before the time change, which is awkward. And I was wondering, like, could it be, like, all of this uncertainty with, like, the whole war that's happening? Like, we got to keep it real. Like, our president is causing the world, like, our world, American world. anxiety. I wonder if it was that at first. But then when I heard Charlemagne saying, I'm like, wait, so I'm not the only person.
Starting point is 01:35:22 Like, this feels weird. Something feels off. Yeah, because you were saying that before time went forward with Charlotte, so, you know what I mean? You said you felt that on Saturday and time didn't go back before Sunday, you know, so. Yeah, I felt that for sure. And then, like, obviously seeing the clocks being a little off, like, it could trigger a slight, like, what is this? Like, oh,
Starting point is 01:35:43 let me fix my clocks. But it's It's more than that. It's more than that. I don't know what it is, but just want to let everyone know, like, God is real and keep them in your heart, make sure that you pray and you ask him to protect you from any bad energy that's out here in this world. And we got to also sit together in these times, guys. And we appreciate you guys being on the radio and making us aware of these type of
Starting point is 01:36:09 things because I don't hear no one else talking about these subjects other than you guys. We appreciate you. Thank you. Now, Shaloh, you were talking about retrograde. What were you saying? Mercury is in Gatorade, which I didn't know until. Why do you keep saying that? It is the retrograde, not Gatorade, because you know people listen to you
Starting point is 01:36:28 and they're going to thank Gatorade. I'm not listening to you. You said that John the Baptist. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. But listen, okay, so Mercury retrograde is happening until March 20th, and it's affecting six signs a lot. Gemini, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Pisces. I'm a cancer.
Starting point is 01:36:46 Lauren LaRosa is the Sagittarius, and she said she felt it, you know what I mean? So I don't know. You say Virgo's too? Yes, Virgoes too. Envy's a Virgo's. Envy said he felt it though.
Starting point is 01:36:56 Okay, okay, you fell off. Envy said he felt. Well, let's take some more calls when we come back and pause that. $800,500,000, 15, 151. Pause you what, man? You said, envy Felton. I don't know what you sometimes. I don't know what you sometimes, man.
Starting point is 01:37:07 No, I'm not growing up. You're so freaking sensitive about your butthole. Nobody wants it. 8.00. Everybody that wants it already had it. Used up. Watch your mouth. Nobody's in my butt hole.
Starting point is 01:37:20 The 90s is, I know you came up in 90s, New York era, man. It was a different time. You don't have to live traumatized for the rest of your life, bro. I put that on the dead homies.
Starting point is 01:37:29 Nobody's been in this. Man, please. Okay. Post traumatic sodomy syndrome is real, y'allel. Post traumatic sodomy disorder is real. If you're just joining us, Charlemagne said over the weekend,
Starting point is 01:37:41 he felt a shift. Yeah, man. Something was off. Something widened for him. I asked him who it was, what's the guy's name? He said it wasn't that. He said it was something else. So what is it, Sholome?
Starting point is 01:37:49 And shut up, man. I just said Saturday evening. I was sitting around. I was at a play, actually. I went to go see Heather's. And I just felt like a shift. I'm sitting in the play. And it literally was like, yo, I literally were like,
Starting point is 01:38:00 yo, what just happened? Like, it's like the world around me changed. Like, the energy and everything changed. And I'm not going to lie, it did have me kind of depressed, like, really for the next 36 hours. Wow. Even a little bit this morning. But then I came in. this morning and you know
Starting point is 01:38:16 Laura Lurosa said she felt the same thing Envy you said you felt the same thing you know Jess said Jesus was I'm good I said I'm good so I was just like you know clearly Jess is normal I'm not wondering I'm like just the only normal person in the room this morning I felt tired I felt like it was because of the time shifting and I just assumed that was the reason I feel a little tired
Starting point is 01:38:39 and a little off but maybe like you said it's Mercury's and retrograde me maybe that's part of it and if you don't know what mercury in retrograde means. Can you break that back down what it means for the universe? I don't know what mercury and retrograde means. I just hear people always say it. Like, I'm not a mercury and gatorade type of person. I just, you know, hear people who say that to me, but I've never really understood what it means. But it said, I'm looking it up now. It says the period is associated with communication breakdowns, travel delays, and technical glitches. It is considered a time to pause, reflect, and avoid signing major contracts are starting new projects. So Mercury retrograde
Starting point is 01:39:13 started on February 26th and last until March 20th. So I don't know why I would just be feeling it Saturday. So I can't say that that's a Mercury retrograde I felt. Yeah. Well, let's open up the phone lines. Hello, who's this? Good morning. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:39:31 Tammy. Tammy. Tammy. Hey, good morning. How are you doing? I'm Blas Black and Holly Fayette. How are you? Awesome.
Starting point is 01:39:38 Great to hear from you guys. I just want to comment on the topic. I don't feel like there was, like, if anything to do with the time change, but it definitely feels like there's a shift in a Matrix or something. It just felt off yesterday, but I don't think it has to do with the time change. Okay, what do you think it has to do it? I really don't know. Like, I really feel like we're living in an episode of The Truman Show or The Matrix for real
Starting point is 01:40:05 because I was driving for a long period of time yesterday, and I swear there was a period where I felt like I blacked. out, but I didn't actually black out. I just felt like, like, how did I get here? Like, I was, I'm driving and I know I'm driving, but I kind of had to catch myself, like, wait a minute, am I really driving, driving right now? It just felt off. Damn.
Starting point is 01:40:27 For a good, like, 20 minutes where it was, like, off and on, like, where I had to catch myself and be like, okay, well, I'm driving. Like, Tammy, you're driving, you're driving, remember, you're driving. So it just felt off yesterday, for real. Yeah. That's how I felt Saturday. I felt like that last night, even when I was trying to sleep. It's not like I was, I wasn't tired, but then I was kind of restless, but then I felt like I was sleeping, but then I had a bunch of stuff on my mind, but then I woke up this morning and I wasn't tired.
Starting point is 01:40:56 Yeah, that don't seem like the time. Yeah, that just don't say it. The time should salute to our DJ precise. He just texted me. He says, no lie, I'm listening this morning. He said, I felt the same energy, energy off. He said, I understand exactly what Charlemagne's feeling. It just feels off.
Starting point is 01:41:09 I can't describe it. I don't know where it's coming from. Just something changed. Like the world around us changed. Like something happened, yo. Hello, who's this? This Cam from the 843. Peace, Cam, 843.
Starting point is 01:41:19 What part of 843 you calling from? North Charleston off of the making. Nauty bye. What's happening? Nothing. I agree with you, Charlotte. Saturday, everything just felt weird. Like, it was just a whole different change in atmosphere.
Starting point is 01:41:35 I don't know if it's because of what's going on in the world or, Just everything that's going on in the state and itself, but everything's just weird. And it's not the time change. It's not the time change because I felt it before the time. I felt it around 7, 8 o'clock. Like it was literally like somebody turned the channel, yo. Like I can't even describe it. It just felt like the world changed.
Starting point is 01:41:59 And I'm like, yo, what the hell just happened? Yeah. Like, it's like, I was driving on my way to Myrtle Beach and like that. It just felt like, uh, like something just heavy just went down. I was just like, I don't like this. I don't like it either. Thank you for calling. Damn.
Starting point is 01:42:16 Is there moral? What's the moral to the story? I don't know what the moral is the story. I just, you know, that's the beauty of, you know, being on the radio and being able to talk to millions of people every day because you can come in here and, you know, express things and then realize you're not alone. Because I'm telling you, man, on Saturday, I was just literally sitting in that play and I just felt something shift. And it didn't feel good. It didn't feel bad. You could just feel that it was a real difference.
Starting point is 01:42:39 And, like, it kind of had me in a real state of depression the last, you know, 36 hours. Even, even a little bit to date. But I feel better now knowing that other people feel like that. All right. All right. Well, when we come back, we got the latest with Lauren, so don't go anywhere. It's the breakfast club. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:42:59 Lauren becoming a straight fan. Tell her. She gets them from somebody that knows somebody. She gets the detail. I'm a home girl that knows a little bit about everything. She'd be having the latest on this. The latest with Lauren LaRosa. Sometimes you have facts, sometimes you have details, sometimes you have a little bit everything.
Starting point is 01:43:16 Well, it's the latest. Brought to you by Top Dog Law on the Breakfast Club. Talk to me. Hot Dog Lo! So real quick at the top of this latest, I wanted to mention a filing that went down that I'm seeing people starting to have a conversation about. So Brian Still, you guys know Brian Still, he's a famed attorney. He represented Young Thug and that trial, that Rias O'Riko trial. He also was a part of Diddy's.
Starting point is 01:43:39 defense team has now submitted documents asking to replace one of Little Dirk's attorneys on his legal team. Now, the reason why I think that people are like clinging to this is number one because Brian still has had some success for Diddy and also for Young Thug. But people feel like right now Little Dirk's case is basically almost like he won't beat it. Like there's a lot of people who don't have faith in the case, even though the murder for hire trial has not even made it. Like it's happening in August. But because they are now able to use like certain lyrics and, you know, all of him and his co-defendants will be tried together. I think people are losing hope for Dirk and Brian Steele is representing like, okay, there's still a chance. But I think that the way that people are having a conversation about Little Dirk's case is a bit unfair only because the only time I see the media covering it and doesn't get much coverage, by the way.
Starting point is 01:44:30 His team is all gag ordered though, so like they can't talk to media. And I think that's why you don't see it pick up a lot. Where is he located at? He's in California, I believe. That's where the murder for hire trial went down. But let me look up exactly where he's locked up at. Could I be wondering why nobody ever comes to his... California?
Starting point is 01:44:45 Yeah, that's where I'm down. Because I can't answer that because I have seen videos of like it only being like India and a couple people from his family. But I do know that his attorneys are gag ordered because I've reached out to them several times trying to get clarity and comments on things and they can't do it. So a lot of times when that happens for media, it's like you want to talk about it and talk about things that face value, but there are so many questions
Starting point is 01:45:09 that you don't get from documents unless you're in the courtroom, and we're all over here. I bet you if he was in Chicago, it would be different, though, because even when you think about, you know, Diddy, his case was in New York. You think about Young Thug,
Starting point is 01:45:19 his case was in Atlanta. I bet you if Dirk was in Chicago, it would be completely different. Well, I think what people also should know, too, is that there have been things that his legal team has been able to do for him. Like, I know that there are some lyrics that would be able to be used from the song,
Starting point is 01:45:33 Aha, but there's other moments that were used. and lyrics and songs that his team fought heavily against being allowed in court. And some of those things were told, hey, you can't use these. So there has been a little movement there. But, you know, hopefully with Brian still on the team, we'll see more people having conversations about what's happening because it'll be the things that I think people will jump to.
Starting point is 01:45:53 It's so weird how the court cases pick up and some of them don't. Go ahead, Envy. Well, is it true that some of the songs that they recorded, they said they actually recorded before the actual killing, so there's no way that those songs could be. used in court? That was some of the arguments that, yeah, that took place back and forth. I mean, I'm not in the studio, so I don't know what was recorded when, but that was some of the arguments
Starting point is 01:46:14 as well. But for me, I just know that even the lyrics that they are going to allow to be used, if you look at a lyric, depending on what you think actually happens, so if you're the prosecution or the defense, you can make anybody believe anything. So he just needs a strong team, point blank, period. And I think Brian still
Starting point is 01:46:30 is going to come in and beat that. I ain't know Brian still, um, was his lawyer? Well, he's not yet. He's He's asking to be. And people are like, oh, wow. Okay, so this is about to get real because Brian still does get busy in a courtroom. So I wanted to mention that there. Now, moving on, over the weekend, actually, this was Saturday.
Starting point is 01:46:49 There was some drama with Dwight Howard and his wife, Amy of love and hip-hop. So we've been kind of back and forth with them. They were together. Then, you know, they called it off and now they're back together. And Amy over the weekend posted a video. She was sitting in the car. breaking down crying, could barely talk, and she's alleging that CPS was called to their home and that one of their children was removed from the home, amongst other things. Let's take a listen.
Starting point is 01:47:16 My marriage has landed me in a very dangerous position. My stepdaughter was just taken by CPS because of her father. CPS and the police have been here three times, and less than three months, and I stood in it with my husband, even though I was scared from my own self, thinking, This is my husband. I had everybody around me saying, you can't leave your husband this soon. You said the sickness through health, but it's not even about me.
Starting point is 01:47:45 It's about the kids. So, of course, I'll be his alibi, but this is going way too far. I keep telling people, he needs some help, y'all. I live with him. I caught this man, forcing our 12-year-old son to cover for him. He was coaching our son to lie on me,
Starting point is 01:48:02 and I had to record it, and it's this shit. I try to tell him, everybody he needs some help this is what I'm losing my marriage to this shit right here yeah so it was a pretty lengthy video in the video she pulls
Starting point is 01:48:18 out what she alleges is a bag of cocaine yeah but and then it was something else too like she got unscrewed I think it was like a little tube and there was things in the tube as well but here's the thing there was another video she posted where she's talking to the son and she's basically talking to the
Starting point is 01:48:34 son about like you know it's bad when you lie on people and things that nature, but there's no, like, I'm still confused and I've reached up. She posted a video of her talking to her step signs. Stepson, yes. The lie that she's alleged. She was trying to basically show that she had recorded that, right? But you don't hear the conversation
Starting point is 01:48:50 about the lie, so yes. I just want to raise my hand. Go ahead. Ask the question to the class. Y'all do know cocaine is illegal, right? If you find that much cocaine, you're supposed to call a goddamn police. I ain't riding around, showing people on Instagram, look like a half a kilo of cocaine? Absolutely. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:49:05 You know what I was more worried about in the video? When she pulled out the little tube and whatever was in this tube that she alleges its cocaine, she sprinkled it on her hand to show us, right? And then she's wiping her nose as she's crying. And she's getting hot all at the same time. If the police fall are over, that is not going to be an excuse. This is my baby daddy. This is my husband.
Starting point is 01:49:24 Get your hands behind your back. Crazy. Yeah. I'm calling the police. It's a lot. It's a mess. It's a mess. But, yeah, and there's been no updates.
Starting point is 01:49:32 I don't even understand why she would put that on social media, right? Because like Charlemais said, it is illegal. It is against the law. Somebody's going to go to jail. Call the police. Call the police. The police ain't going to care. You can't tell the police this is my baby daddy cocaine.
Starting point is 01:49:47 Yeah, I have a lot of us. Well, not baby daddy. Her husband. You know what I'm saying? That's Royce Reed baby daddy. But didn't Royce jump in and say something? Yeah. So Royce got online.
Starting point is 01:49:55 So if you guys aren't familiar, Royce Reid was with Dwight Howard. They have children together. And Royce Reid has been claiming for a while that Dwight Howard allegedly is the issue. And when she saw this, She responded to Amy. Let's take a listen.
Starting point is 01:50:06 It's everybody else's fault. So you just don't think any of us fell for the antics either, right? None of us fell for the narcissism. Are you for us? You said I wanted him when it's always been about the damn kids. And now you want to sit here and cry and see her and be like, it's because of what everybody else did. It's easy.
Starting point is 01:50:43 And people will believe it because I'm baby Jesus. Girl, shut up. Hey, meanwhile, Dwight Howell is at the Los Angeles Lakers' next game, minding his business. Yeah, chilling. Like, yes. And then even yesterday, I went to his page and see because I reached out to his team and they didn't respond to me. So I went to see if maybe he posted something, whatever. He had posted a video about like a car giveaway that gave to, like, families with no cars.
Starting point is 01:51:05 Like, he just moved on from all of this. Like, he just. I also would like to say, this is just my personal observation. I don't know any of this. I'm just, Dwight don't give Coke to me. What do you get? There's nothing about Dwight Howard that says I'm on cocaine. That's just my personal opinion.
Starting point is 01:51:17 I don't know. I don't know him. I'm not around him 24-7. But just in the times I've interacted with him, Bennett, I don't get Coke. A better question is, who gives Coke to you? Oh, there's a lot of people who get Coke. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:51:27 But we need to, like, be able to, like, compare him. No, messy-ass. TMG-ass. Damn. There's plenty of people who give Coke. You give Coke, to be honest. Oh, my God. She don't give a little buck in the morning.
Starting point is 01:51:36 No, she do. Yo. Yo, well, a couple. Shut up. Oh, my God. Shut up. Oh, my God. That's not.
Starting point is 01:51:43 Oh, my God. You know, like an early addict. No, not an addict of Coke bottle, like the knife shape one. I thought they were talking about a Coke bottle, you know. Well, look, a couple that does have it all together right now. So from what we can see is Dempsey Idris and Lori Harvey. There was a video of them kissing in Paris Fashion Week that people went crazy over. And I'm breaking down the relationship, but also a lot of the success that Dempson Edris is seeing right now in the box office.
Starting point is 01:52:07 After Formula F1 broke and some things that he has coming up on the podcast, the latest with Lauren the Rosa. So go take a listen over there. It's not messy. It's actually a great conversation about love and success. Hit a line La Rosa. Shut up. Shut up. You're welcome. This was brought to you up by Top Dog Law.
Starting point is 01:52:24 I might need to call them on you. Any accident, big or small people call Top Dog Law. Hit Align La Rosa. We come back. We got the mix now. People have been hitting me and asking how can we have him been played Notorious BiG, right? Because the greatest rap of all time died on March 9th. His mother, actually, Biggie's mom did interview one time and said she really dislikes when people celebrate his
Starting point is 01:52:44 death. D. Rock said that too. Yeah, D. Rock said that. Because of that, we stopped doing the Biggie mixes. We stopped playing Biggie on the day of his death. That's the reason why we, you know, honored Ms. Wildess and D. Rock. So, all right, the people's choice mixes up next. It's the
