Live from the Black Mothership in New York City, DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha God, and Jess Hilarious. Thank y'all for being cultural leaders, man. I appreciate what y'all do for the culture. Collectively known as Breakfast Club, bitches. I'm always nervous when I do The Breakfast Club because sometimes you say stuff and it's just going to get you drunk. Everybody wake up.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Good morning, baby. That's right. Last day before spring break. That is right. I'm sorry. You know, we have to take mandatory vacations sometimes, guys. Sorry. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:35 So this is our last day. Is the first quarter officially over for us? No? January, February, March. Yes. It is, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I would think April, but you know.
Starting point is 00:03:44 April is, yeah. We're a quarter through the year, I guess. I don't know, man. I'm It is, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I would think April, but you know. April is, yeah. We're a quarter through the year, I guess. I don't know, man. I'm just talking. How y'all doing this morning? I'm doing good. How you feel? Cramping.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Cramping? Yeah. You still get cramps? Oh, pregnancy cramps, though. First of all, yes. Okay. I still get cramps. You still get cramps as a woman when you're pregnant.
Starting point is 00:04:01 And it's crazy, because I rushed to the doctor's the other day, right? And I was like, what's going on? And she's, you know, the baby, all right? And then I got a son rushed to the doctor's the other day, right? And I was like, what's going on? Is the baby all right? And then I got a sonogram and she's just sitting very, very low. Yes, and don't say, oh my God, no.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Don't do that. Oh my God, no. Oh my God, yes. Yeah, she's sitting low. So that's going to be good for me. You done said something twice now. It's going to make my birth easy. It's going to make,
Starting point is 00:04:20 I know, right? It's going to make my birth easy, but it's just going to make my pregnancy uncomfortable difficult for a little bit yeah so just
Starting point is 00:04:29 yeah little babies be moving though sometimes sometimes they'll be in that position and they'll move around and you know
Starting point is 00:04:33 yeah just drink olive oil drink olive oil no come on you got that from your grandmother I don't even know I just said that
Starting point is 00:04:39 yeah that's something that a grandmother would say it's like no yo olive oil is not going to solve everything drink some type of oil drink olive oil drink castor oil type of oil. Drink olive oil.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Drink half the oil. Just drink oil. Jesus. Drink more oil. You'll be fine. No, no more oil. No more oil. My goodness.
Starting point is 00:04:53 But no, other than that, I'm good. Well, yeah, so the reason I said good morning, New York, is I looked on the sheet, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams will be joining us this morning. Yes, the elected mayor, Eric Adams. I mean, Eric Adams, he's a national figure. Yeah, he is. He gets poofed on SNL
Starting point is 00:05:09 and plus, you know, a lot of things that are happening here in New York City are affecting the whole country like the migrant crisis. Yeah. You know, like poverty.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Congestion. Like homelessness. The congestion thing that's about to happen is probably going to start here and end up in your city. So he'll be here to talk to us this morning
Starting point is 00:05:22 and the honorary mayor of New York City, Fat Joe, will be here as well. Oh, yes, yeah. You confused me for a second. I this morning and the honorary mayor of New York City, Fat Joe will be here as well. Oh, yes. Yeah. You confused me for a second. I was like, the honorary mayor?
Starting point is 00:05:28 Yes, Fat Joe will be joining us as well. He'll be here because he's trying to get Envy to be his new endorser for this rewinded 10 hair and beard color for men
Starting point is 00:05:37 that he is out here promoting. Yeah. We'll see, because right now I use just for men. You know. I know, that's right. I will say Fat Joe's beard has been looking a lot better.
Starting point is 00:05:47 More natural. It's been very more natural. It was looking real painted on for some months. It was just one day. It was just one day it looked crazy. No, it was not just one day. You're lying. You're lying.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Stop lying to Joe. It was one day. One day it looked crazy. No, no, no, no, no, no. It looked painted on for a little while. Okay, and him and Kyler were sharing the same paint. But recently, it's been looking a lot more natural
Starting point is 00:06:05 and I think that's because of Rewind to 10 that we'll discuss this morning. Jesus Christ. Yes, Fat Joe will be joining us this morning and we got a special guest with us with the
Starting point is 00:06:13 Eric Adams interview, right? Oh, yes. Ola Yemi O'Lauren. Ola Yemi O'Lauren. She's a lawyer. I wasn't going to try to pronounce that. That's why I threw it to him.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Ola Yemi O'Lauren. She's a lawyer. She's an activist. She's a political commentator. Fantastic. Fantastic human being. That's right I threw it to him. Maybe it hurt me. Hola, Yemi O'Lauren. She's a lawyer. She's an activist. She's a political commentator. Fantastic. Fantastic human being. That's right. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:30 And she's going to be joining us. Very passionate about New York City. And she's been, you know, very critical. Yes. Of Mayor Eric Adams. That's right. You know, so. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Perfect person to have sitting in on the conversation. Okay. All right. Well, let's get the show cracking. When we come back, we got some front page news. Tesla and Figaro. Beyonce dropped an album. We got a Beyonce song. Okay. I haven't well, let's get the show cracking. When we come back, we got some front page news, Tesla and Figaro. Beyonce dropped an album. We got a Beyonce song.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Okay. I haven't heard it. Is it really country country? I heard like two joints, but it didn't. Which one is the one with Post Malone, Levi James? Post Malone?
Starting point is 00:06:54 Huh? Cholene, yeah, this is the one that she rewrote, right? Dolly Parton's head. She got Post Malone? Yeah. Sound dope, too.
Starting point is 00:07:02 You ain't got the one with Post Malone? It's modern day country. Ain't no black country thing? It's called Levi's jeans. Oh, too. You ain't got the one we're posting? You ain't got the one we're posting on? It's modern day country. Ain't no black country thing? It's called Levi's Jeans. Oh, Lord. Now, she got somebody black on there. Let me see.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Nah, I was looking. Hold on, hold on. Stop, stop, Jolene. Play the record, man. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You tell me if this person is black. How are we posting? Tanner Adele.
Starting point is 00:07:21 I have no idea. Tanner sounds a little country. Britney Spencer. Tanner Adele look black Yep She black See see Tiara Kennedy Oh yeah she definitely got black
Starting point is 00:07:31 See everyone Yeah see she got a couple likes Okay just making sure Alright It's the Breakfast Club Good morning Alright Well let's get in some
Starting point is 00:07:36 Front page news Good morning Tiz Good morning DJ Envy Jet Salarius Charlamagne Tha Guy Peace Tiz Alright well let's jump right into it Let's talk Biden, huh?
Starting point is 00:07:46 Yeah, so yesterday, the Biden campaign held a sold-out crowd of more than 5,000 supporters at Radio City Music Hall. They helped to raise a record amount of over $25 million for a single event. Take a listen. The Biden campaign hosting a star-studded fundraiser, a hall of presidents at Radio City Music Hall. Biden, Obama, and Clinton with celebrities including Lizzo and Queen Latifah. The campaign says the event will rake in at least 25 million dollars as Democrats set the stage for the general election. I've never been more optimistic about our future. I know I'm only 40 years old times two plus one.
Starting point is 00:08:26 But a new poll shows former President Trump performing well in a head-to-head matchup and that just 38% of Americans approve of President Biden's handling of the economy. Just 30% on immigration. Today, the President's visit to Manhattan sparked protests over the war in Gaza.
Starting point is 00:08:44 You don't realize how many police officers are in New York City until events like this Today, the president's visit to Manhattan sparked protests over the war in Gaza. You don't realize how many police officers are in New York City until events like this happen. Between the mayor being up here yesterday and Radio City being like a block away and all those presidents in town, it was police on top of police yesterday. And even despite all of that, the protesters were still outside and made it inside the event. I'm going to tell you a little bit about that. Like you heard, pro- heard pro Palestine reporters were outside. They said it was police everywhere and somebody still got in the event and protested President Biden while he was speaking. Take a listen to that.
Starting point is 00:09:14 There was an insurrection. Shame on you Joe Biden. Jesus. Shame on you. Shame on you. You are putting genocide of Palestine! And no amount of focusing that you do will change the billions that you are doing! You did what on your hands? Seemed like it sounded like it was a couple of them.
Starting point is 00:09:39 Yeah. Yeah. And so the discussion was interrupted at least five times. Now this the host was Stephen Colbert. He was a host. And so he had to eventually acknowledge the protests and ask He added that Israel's very existence was at stake. He said there has to be a train for a two-state solution. It doesn't have to carry today, but there has to be progression, and I think we can do that. And when he said that, he was met with a standing ovation and folks chanting four more years.
Starting point is 00:10:21 Okay. All right, well, that is front-page news. Thank you, thank you tiz absolutely what are we talking next hour so next hour walden university you may have heard of that university they reached a 28.5 million dollar settlement for preying on black people and women uh and also for the first time in 27 years the government has changed how you'll answer race on your government form so we'll talk about that seven o'clock hour. Starting point is 00:11:22 Yeah. You know, I'm not pleased with the way Biden has handled Palestine and Gaza anyway, either. But if we look at the other candidates, Nick Haley said it could be a parking lot. Trump said that Netanyahu do what he wants to do. So when we look at the options and we're protesting what do we really think is gonna happen to people in Gaza if Biden doesn't win yeah I say that really I say that all the time there's no president that's not gonna uh support Israel and support Israel's military Barack Obama gave more money to Israel's military than any president ever so I mean I don't I don't know
Starting point is 00:12:00 what people think the option is exactly thank you have you. Have a good one, mama. Hello, who's this? How you doing? It's Greg from Baltimore. Greg from B-Mall. What's up? How y'all doing, man? Listen, I was on the phone with y'all a couple weeks ago

Gardell, I was just wondering, you got some tips on how to finish this and, like, get the, you know, i got probably getting the dialogue down you know what i mean what you mean just as far as writing writing a book yeah correct yeah i mean just just tell

Starting point is 00:18:55 2022, and 2021. If you lied, it's okay. Stop bringing it back up. I'm tired of it. On behalf of gay men everywhere, stop embarrassing us. Isn't he in court, though? He's taking it. He's appealing it.
Starting point is 00:19:08 And they want to hear his case again. But I'm tired of hearing about it. Yeah, he's the one that took it back to court. He lied on them strong African men. I thought it was a coordinated thing. I thought they were all in it together. I remember each of y'all put it all on them. And then Nate came in and was like, hold up.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Uh-uh. We did it all together. He's still lying. It's 2024. You lied. It's okay. We forgive you. Stop, bro. Leave it alone. I understand. Alright, Trav. Bye, y'all. Bye, Trav. Get it off your chest.

Starting point is 00:20:01 It's a Friday. And let's get to Jess with the Mess. The news is real. We're in the headlines. Jessica Robin Moore. Jess don't do no Jess with the mess. News is real. Webber is the queen. Jessica Robin Moore. Jess don't do no lying. Don't do no lying. She don't spare nobody. She don't spare nobody.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Worldwide Jess. Worldwide mess. She don't spare nobody. On The Breakfast Club. She's a coach of shit. She was able to get y'all to see something and understand something that nobody could get you to see. It's time to set it all all right 50 cent trying to gain custody of his son after daphne joy his ex was accused of
Starting point is 00:20:31 being diddy's sex worker so daphne joy was recently named in laura's lawsuit this because i'm gonna say i mean this is what i said i'm gonna take everybody down uh court documents stated that daphne was a paid was paid a monthly fee to work as Diddy's sex worker and receive payment via wire transfer uh when the news went public 50 Cent couldn't help himself of course and he posted a picture of him smoking a cigar on Instagram and he captioned mocking his child's mother he said I didn't know you was a sex worker you little sex worker lol yo this a movie 50 cent is now being accused of rape and abuse and abuse by Daphne Joy so Daphne accused him of all of that on Instagram she said everything is a joke to you until our safety is compromised which is happening now let's put the real focus
Starting point is 00:21:20 on your true evil actions of raping me and physically abusing me you are no longer my oppressor and my god will handle you from this point on so 50 cents rep then put out a statement basically saying the things that's going on with Daphne right now is pushing me to like feel like I have to get custody of my son because it's obviously an unsafe environment and her her allegations are baseless basically that's that's what is going on. And he still continued to play for the rest of the day. I wonder how serious people will take her allegations when something like this goes down.
Starting point is 00:21:55 Because 50 is seeking full custody of his son. And then she comes with that allegation. So it just seems like I'm saying this because I don't want you to get full custody of my son. So I wonder how serious will the court take those communications. And then in the video yesterday
Starting point is 00:22:07 she had posted that she was crying but you know she was all glossed up still cute you know definitely cute or whatever but she was crying
Starting point is 00:22:14 and she was really upset or whatever but you know just pulling the camera out and crying just it's like everything just everything
Starting point is 00:22:23 don't have to be online. That's all I keep feeling. It's like why is all of this playing out on social media? She was crying so cute. With everybody. But you know what? I seen yesterday too. Hey, guys.
Starting point is 00:22:33 I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast, Post Run High, is all about. It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise

Why can't I trade my own country? My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself, and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, it was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments.
Starting point is 00:25:10 Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before.

On Thanksgiving Day, 1999, a five-year-old boy floated alone in the ocean. He had lost his mother trying to reach Florida from Cuba. He looked like a little angel. I mean, he looked so fresh. And his name, Elian Gonzalez, will make headlines everywhere. Elian Gonzalez. Elian Gonzalez.
Starting point is 00:25:53 Elian. Elian. Elian Gonzalez. At the heart of the story is a young boy and the question of who he belongs with. His father in Cuba. Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him.. His father in Cuba. Mr. Gonzales wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him. Or his relatives in Miami.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom. At the heart of it all is still this painful family separation. Something that as a Cuban, I know all too well. Listen to Chess Peace, the Elian Gonzalez story,

Starting point is 00:27:22 each and every Saturday with myself, Ramses Jha, jaw q ward and some of the greatest minds in america listen to civic cypher every saturday on the iheart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast that the umg boss the executives at umg was like we've never been to diddy's house like so they're going back at little rod and little rod's attorney and seeing some of the stuff that they're saying is lies and i even seen something where young miami said i wasn't even at the festival with diddy i was actually in new york for fashion week and she showed videos of her herself so they're gonna have to prove a lot of that stuff that they put in those documents because a lot of people saying a lot of that stuff that put they put in the documents weren't true you think all right so say if they do find out like like he was lying about a lot of stuff little
Starting point is 00:28:04 rod because they they could sue him back, right? Absolutely. Like everybody could sue him back. But the damage is already done because it's what people have already seen, it's what people already believe. And I think this is part of the reason why the feds and Homeland Security is going so hard at Diddy. It's part of the stuff that's in those documents.
Starting point is 00:28:18 I don't know. No? I don't know. I mean, I just don't know. I don't know if that's the lawsuit. But you said, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know if the lawsuit is the sole reason. I don't think Homeland Security makes a move like that just because somebody sued you with a bunch of allegations.
Starting point is 00:28:33 I said part of it because I'm sure they're interviewing a lot of those people to see what those people are saying. I don't think we know nothing about why Homeland Security was in that house if we're being totally honest. Yeah, well, we just have to wait and see. Everybody's speculating, but I really think we don't know we will know sooner sooner than later we don't know everybody just hold their horses stevie j has also spoke up saying he wants to fight 50 cent over recent claims about diddy so he was also named in laura's lawsuit um he was saying that diddy knew that he was a fan of stevie j laura was a fan of stevie j so um he is allegedly accusing diddy of getting stevie j to groom him you know and and into committing a homosexual acts and all of that
Starting point is 00:29:14 um so 50 cent went to instagram and shared this post the caption said whoa say it ain't so stevie j with the f this s is a mess or whatever then stevie j we know he's gonna respond this is what he said curtis what's good man you and your feelings about daphne and she would gang them or is it that you sucking little rod how we go i want you to fade all that since it's entertainment let me beat the out of you on tv or something jesus don't duck that i'm calling you out what you want to do curtis curtis it's time to come out and play it just feel like everybody's too old for all of this everybody oh no absolutely everybody's too grown for all of this everybody is too grown but yep so he said he wanted to fight um anyway lb shore issued a message to his son Quincy Brown
Starting point is 00:30:05 for those who don't know Quincy is actually the son to LB Shore and Kim Porter who did he adopt it you know at a young age
Starting point is 00:30:12 when he started dealing with Kim LB Shore posted a photo of him and his 32 year old oh he the same age as me little Quincy
Starting point is 00:30:18 letter to my son come home the door is wide open you're safe here son I love you pops you're biological i hope you don't have a quincey number that's what i said i'm like you posted this and then not the door is wide open you're safe you're safe here son you don't have a mailing address
Starting point is 00:30:35 you can send that letter to you don't have an email like this boy yeah you should have called and this boy has been living with diddy for a long time yeah time. Yeah, 52 years. I just don't understand why everything gotta play out via social media. You know what? He might not have his son's number.
Starting point is 00:30:49 They might not have a relationship where they that cool. Social media cheapens a lot of things. It does. Yeah. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:30:55 Like it just cheapens a lot of things. It doesn't seem heartfelt. It makes a lot of things just seem like they're performative. It makes a lot of things just seem like
Starting point is 00:31:02 they're entertainment. None of this stuff seems like it's from the heart when it comes via social media well either way um that is the news for the first hour all right thank you thank you just i seen this morning too that they're gonna start tracking uh a lot of his uh commercial flights and a lot of his private flights to see who else he was on the plane with. Like, they're deep diving. What are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:31:27 Homeland Security. What are you talking about, Diddy? It's, you know, follow his private to see who was on the jet, the manifest to see who was on those planes and see commercial airlines to see if he was flying people in the credit cards. So that's,
Starting point is 00:31:38 because people were talking yesterday that they were subpoenaing the businesses that he was working with, but it was actually, like, the charter companies and things like that to see who was on there. The telephone.
Starting point is 00:31:48 But he's been a... I mean, it's an investigation, so... That could get tricky, though, right? Because if you've been a mogul for so long,
Starting point is 00:31:55 of course you've been doing mad business, flying private all over the place, dealing with multiple people in regards to actual business. Right? So what are they
Starting point is 00:32:02 looking for exactly? I don't know. Victims? We don't know exactly i don't know victims that we don't know we don't know what's going on maybe no none of us know what's going on all we know is that there is an investigation that's right an active investigation no more later all right when we come back we got front page news says the figure will be joining us it's the breakfast club good morning you're checking out the breakfast club morning everybody it's dj envy jess hilarious charlamagne the guy we are the breakfast club let's get back in some front page news what up tiz what's going on dj envy jess
Starting point is 00:32:31 hilarious charlamagne the guy good morning red lips now let's talk about this for-profit school yeah for-profit school accused that you might have heard these kind of things before with a lot of these online schools well this for-profit college accused of, you might have heard these kind of things before with a lot of these online schools. Well, this for-profit college, Walden University, is accused of targeting women and black students with false advertising about how long it would take to complete a degree. Then extracting millions of dollars in extra tuition payments, they have agreed to a $28.5 million settlement. The class action lawsuit alleged that Walden University generated millions in excess tuition prolonging projects for people that were going for their doctorate in business administration degrees. They wrote a statement saying that they have agreed to the settlement in pursuit of the best interests of all parties involved. The school said it remained committed to helping students with their professional goals so uh if you have went if you
Starting point is 00:33:25 went to walden and you uh went uh for that particular degree be looking for an opportunity to get a claim is this the one romeo used to promote it's not the one romeo used to promote it the college no no that's icdc icdc what's the false advertising exactly they just tell you like you'll get your you can get a degree in two years or something like that yeah yeah you'll see that i actually took a course at walden before uh but not for my doctor but um tell you like you'll get your you can get a degree in two years or something like that yeah yeah you'll see and i actually took a course at walden before but not for my doctorate but um yeah stuff like you know you can in in 12 short months you can get this or in less than two years or they'll have those commercials you know i've seen a lot of walden commercials where they have those commercials where they'll say you know um this could be you
Starting point is 00:34:01 i went from being this to that in a short amount of time and just really false advertising, put a lot of cap on it basically. And so when people go in and then the real problem was they prolonged the program. So rather than getting in and doing a lot of time, they extended projects to make people stay in longer. So there was some of that that was going on as well
Starting point is 00:34:20 which generated more tuition costs. I wonder what that conversation is going to be like for these students. They say 3,000 students eligible. I wonder what that check will look like. It's going to be a good check if it's $28 million divided into 300 students, at least what they estimate at this particular time. It could possibly be more.
Starting point is 00:34:36 You're not going to do it, Taz? You said you weren't there for a month. I wasn't there for one month. I wasn't going for my doctorate. This is specifically for people that went for their uh for their doctorate in business administration i just did one one month i was going for my master's i ended up finishing my master's somewhere else but you know i i wonder you know it seems like everybody gets their doctorate and their master's online and i wonder if people that actually
Starting point is 00:35:00 because there's a difference between online and actually going to school, right? I mean, I don't consider it. Go ahead. No, because I was saying I know a lot of people that go online, there's no checks and balances, meaning when you take tests and things like that, you can Google the answers. Well, I disagree with that. As somebody who went online, I went traditional and I went online. I had to go online because I had what they call a job and a kid and a marriage, and it was either not go online or not had what they call a job and a kid and a marriage and it was either
Starting point is 00:35:25 not go online or not get a degree at all um you still have to do the work um that's required where there wasn't a testing online when I went for my master's um so I mean you can google the answers if you're in class you can google and turn your paper so most of your uh master's degree and doctor's degree are mostly papers and and turning in work and projects it's not testing you know like in high school or early your early career of college it's not taking tests is you know uh submitting information but basically you can do that curriculum basically don't play with us because we do yeah don't play with us because we yeah bottom line yeah bottom line yeah because that's right it's either do that or have nothing at all and in some careers I mean I need I have to have that information that's just the bottom line
Starting point is 00:36:09 in order to teach in college I needed a master's in adult education so it was either don't have a master's in adult education or not and I just couldn't stop my job and just go to school you know full-time on somebody's campus plus when you were just cool there was no internet. Like, you went to school in 1900 and what? Which is 19... I graduated in 2000. It just started. That was dial-up back then.
Starting point is 00:36:33 It might have been dial-up. Yeah, but I was online and a lot of students saying they'd rather go online because it's easier for them to use chat GPT. They don't have as much... But you can do that in traditional school. They're doing it in traditional school if you're gonna write a paper you're gonna cheat on a paper you still have to turn in the paper in traditional school nobody's taking nobody's taking tests for your master's degree and doctor and doctor degree it's not
Starting point is 00:36:56 you're turning in papers so you can cheat just as easy it's just and that's what what this false advertising was about you know where you're saying working mothers or black students that are trying to work jobs and still advance their degree online is really the only option. People can't just quit, you know, like they're 18 years old and go be in the dorm somewhere. And that's where this false advertisement is, because it makes people say, hey, I would really like to get my degree to earn more money. And then you get in this type of university that is for profit, which is very than like the university of north texas that i went to there's a public school and now you're paying five times more and you're still not getting you know of the degree that you are claiming that they're claiming they're going to give you in that amount of time i'm the only person in here with a doctorate degree okay that's facts that's facts yes it's the honorary
Starting point is 00:37:43 it doesn't matter it doesn't matter it's the honorary. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Oh, it's the honorary one. She stopped going to State University. Okay, I am a doctor. All right. That's facts. I know that's right with that pocket degree. He funny as hell. That's right.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Well, Tez is a doctor too. So Tez got her doctorate. But she actually went to school. Yeah. So y'all both got your doctorates. I'm going for my third degree. Thank you. So yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:00 Don't be a little shade about all my degrees. I'm going to get mine. I'm going to get mine then too. That's right. Oh, you're right. Well, I'm not. Don't go with it shade about all my degrees. I'm going to get mine then, too. That's right. You're right. I'm not. You want to go with it? Because no.
Starting point is 00:38:09 I'm not getting mine. Well, that is front page news. Thank you, Tess. Absolutely. You guys have a great spring break. Thank you. Make sure you follow at Tesla and Figaro on all social media platforms. Subscribe to this great shot.
Starting point is 00:38:20 No chase a podcast. Hope to buy Tesla and Figaro on the Black Effect iHeartRadio podcast network. All right. Now, when we come back, New York City Mayor, Mayor Eric Adams will be joining us. And we're going to kick it with him next. Don't move. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:38:34 And, you know, a lot of things that Mayor Adams talks about affects people on a national level. And we have Ola Yemi O'Lauren. She's a lawyer, activist, political commentator. She will be here. She's very critical of Mayor Eric Adams, too, so she'll be here as well. Alright, so we'll do that next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Good morning, everybody. It's DJ
Starting point is 00:38:55 Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club. We got a special guest in the building. Ladies and gentlemen, the mayor of New York City, Eric Adams. We also City, Eric Adams. And we also have lawyer and political commentator Ola Yemi.
Starting point is 00:39:08 Ola is right here. Good morning. Good morning, man. How you feeling, man? Good, good, good. You know, even before we get into the conversation, I was with Jordan
Starting point is 00:39:15 the other day, my son. And somehow your name came up. And there was a group of young people in the room talking about politics. It's amazing how so many people are into politics now and they came up with saying something about there were people saying that how you were trying to push trump push trump push trump so jordan pulled up this video one of your shows where you broke down each time you were talking about what was wrong about
Starting point is 00:39:43 his race absolutely i just broke it down piece by piece. And Jordan said, Dad, you know what? Truth doesn't matter anymore, folks. People don't care about truth. Nobody cares about the truth. They don't care about facts. Facts no longer exist. I've never pushed Trump.
Starting point is 00:39:55 I actually do the opposite. Exactly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But we are in a generation where everyone gets up in the morning, look on social media and whatever's on there, they identify as the facts. The headlines. Exactly. No one goes into the body of the story everybody's just well you know what this is what the headlines say and that's the reality of it and so it was like an eye opener for him of how
Starting point is 00:40:16 i said jordan for over and over again that one moment took away all those years of me saying have your own facts don't let anybody define for you you define for yourself that's right you know that's the power of this microphone that's the power of media putting those facts out if we don't control the message the message will control us we got a lot to talk about today your city so yes uh today we reported earlier about uh congestion pricing right what's your thoughts on that i think it's gonna it's gonna cripple new york city you got a lot of people the bridges already the tolls already high it's 17 i think for george washington 11 for the midtown tunnels uh parking is is extremely high uh and now getting into the city it's gonna be even it's gonna hurt a lot of people even driving
Starting point is 00:40:59 the city and people are scared of the subways you know with everything been going on people getting you know pushed into the train stations crime and people are scared of new york city that's a lot let's unpack let's do the first one first you've been holding on to a lot i have i have let's break it down for a moment let's break it down in pieces so we can really uh understand it first let's deal with the stuff about people are scared of the subways when i became mayor no one wanted to be on the subway we got over 4 million daily riders. I was talking to one of my guys, I was talking to her sister the other day, and she said, you know, we have about 200, 300 crimes happening on the subway system.
Starting point is 00:41:33 We have six felonies a day on our subway system out of 4 million riders. Look at those numbers. Our subway system is a safe system. And we put in an additional 1,000 officers to do the high visibility to deal with the reality. Because safety is not only felt, it's perceived. So those six felonies, we've got to get rid of. We're clear on that. But people are back on our subway system.
Starting point is 00:41:59 But when you deal with specifically congested prices, a lot of people don't realize these are the city streets but we had no authority on it albany passed a law and turned it over to the mta this is the mta's baby they should have allowed the city to be able to control how congestion pricing was done so that 15 we were able to fight to get 100 million dollars to deal with the environmental impact in the bronx we were able to fight to get those100 million to deal with the environmental impact in the Bronx. We were able to fight to get those who are shift brokers to get a discount, those who make less than $50,000 to get a discount. But this was a bill that came out of Albany.
Starting point is 00:42:36 So you don't agree with it, or do you agree with it? No, I agree we've got to deal with something with the congestion in our city. But you don't pass on the cost of that on low low income New Yorkers or those who have to come to Manhattan you may have to have of going to your chemotherapy and this is the doctor you have to go to you should not be hit over there because people that live in the area they're saying that people that actually live in the area when they drive if they got to drive uptown to the doctor they got to drive they get charged too yeah but I'm not feeling people that live in the area I'm talking about low income New Yorkers should not have to carry the burden of that. And we ask to have more and a greater input and the shaping of that, but we don't.
Starting point is 00:43:11 People don't often realize we're creatures of Albany. Albany passed the laws. We have to implement the laws that are down here. Would you be on the subway? I think you're right that there is a difference between perception and fact and how people feel about safety and the way people feel about the subways. And I think it's your own rhetoric about the subways that has a lot to do with why people feel scared, despite the fact that millions of people ride the subway every day without incident. But you've continued to fare monger about crime in the subways. You've added 2000 police officers, despite the fact that you've acknowledged that the subways are not that dangerous.
Starting point is 00:43:41 And I think there is, you're right, poor New Yorkers should not be the ones who bear the brunt of this, but they will if they already have the subway being turned into a place that they have to fare, that there's a National Guard, that there's a hyper-visibility of police, that they're trying to stop people with certain records from even using them, and now you have this congestion price.
Starting point is 00:43:57 So how do you reconcile that? Give me the quotes on my rhetoric, because I'm lost on that. Can you give me the quotes? Oh, that you fare monger about the subways? Oh, you've consistently done that since the day one of your administration one of the first things you did was add a thousand officers to the subway because you claim that the subways are unrideable you and hokal did this and said how dangerous it is and you recently did that
Starting point is 00:44:14 when you deployed the national guard sister but that's not that wasn't my question my question was what was my fear mongering what did i say you continuously say i i could point to a number of videos and quotes and everything from you. But you've said repeatedly that the subways are dangerous, that New York is dangerous. You complain about crime relentlessly. So what I'm saying to you is if you are saying that New York, it's one of the safest big cities in this country, which is true. And you're recognizing that the subway stations are, in fact, not half as dangerous as they're presented to be. I'm saying, how do you reconcile how your rhetoric has played into people's fear? And not even his rhetoric. I would say the actions.
Starting point is 00:44:45 Because she's right. Which is different. But it's the same thing, though. If you put 1,000 police officers in the subway, 2,000 police officers in the subway, that don't make us feel safe. We think something's wrong if you're doing that. First, let me peel back again. Because you've got to always peel back this stuff.
Starting point is 00:44:58 You know, because oftentimes how you depict in the media that I don't control is how people interpret you. I didn't put the National Guard in the subway. The governor did. I know, but I know what you're depicted in the media that I don't control is how people interpret you. I didn't put the National Guard in the subway. The governor did. I know, but I know
Starting point is 00:45:09 what you're saying. But you said, Eric. You stood with Governor Kathy Hochul and you co-signed that decision. You did.
Starting point is 00:45:15 And I'm not saying as someone who's following social media, I'm saying that as an attorney in the city and an activist who follows everything that you do.
Starting point is 00:45:21 I'm glad you do. But then you realize how I turned the city around if you follow everything I do. You'll realize that I... I would say no, but we could get to that next. Loosen up your time, man.
Starting point is 00:45:30 It's going to be a long day. And I enjoy every moment of it. That's right. Because this is what I do. When you come with a serious history, if you follow everything I do, you know how long I've been doing this. And you know what my record is.
Starting point is 00:45:44 So let's peel back what you just stated. Fear is perceived and felt. That's what fear is. So no matter, as I shared, that we have six felony crimes a day with four million riders. If people feel unsafe, when we get in the subway system, I ride the subway system, and I talk to commuters, and I say, what are you feeling? And how do I help you with that fear? They say, Eric, we see more visible uniform offices in our subway system. We're going
Starting point is 00:46:10 to feel safer. So we got it that the numbers are down. Now you may say, Eric, I don't want to see a visible president of uniform officer. And that's cool, but that's not what the overwhelming number of New Yorkers are saying. And I'm saying to you, the New York City comptroller, Brad Lander, recently put out a report finding that 50% of the city is disappointed and does not feel safe based on your rhetoric about the subways and your over-police presence. Okay, but sister, first of all, that's not what this says based on Eric's rhetoric. You can't use it. No, no, no. Did they say based on Eric's rhetoric?
Starting point is 00:46:38 Do you want to talk about based on your specific? No, no, sister. I'm going back to what you said because you're an attorney. They have. Did they say based on Eric's rhetoric? Yes, they have. The city is, there are, they have multiple reports. The New York Times, the Gothamist, the city comptroller, and the federal monitor who reports,
Starting point is 00:46:51 who reports, who's tasked with making sure that NYPD and Rikers are in compliance with the law, have both submitted reports saying that since you became mayor, there's been a return of stop and frisk, that there have been over 15,000 stops, 97% of whom have been on black and Hispanic people. A fourth of those stops and searches have been unconstitutional and they've yielded very few results. Let's peel it back. Eric Adams, 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement, testified in federal court that the federal court judge stated, based on Eric's testimony, we are going to rule against the police department.
Starting point is 00:47:23 We were dealing with a million stops a year when i was with 100 blacks in law enforcement my advocacy is what turned it around from that million stops a year look at the numbers right now right now i am looking at my advocacy and showing how to do policing correctly because it's not that you want to eradicate proper police practices. Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There are 55 gallons of water,
Starting point is 00:48:00 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Kaperburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. The Waikana tribe owned country. My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets.

As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt,
Starting point is 00:49:59 learning to trust herself, and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, it was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself.
Starting point is 00:50:32 You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On Thanksgiving Day, 1999, a five-year-old boy floated alone in the ocean. He had lost his mother trying to reach Florida from Cuba. He looked like a little angel. I mean, he looked so fresh. And his name, Elian Gonzalez, will make headlines everywhere.
Starting point is 00:51:09 At the heart of the story is a young boy and the question of who he belongs with. His father in Cuba. Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him. Or his relatives in Miami. Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom. At the heart of it all is still this painful family separation. Something that as a Cuban, I know all too well. Listen to Chess Peace, the Elian Gonzalez story,
Starting point is 00:51:39 as part of the My Cultura podcast network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's up? This is Ramses Jha. Listen to Civic Cipher every Saturday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Let's make sure they do them right. And that is what I have been able to accomplish in this city, taking over 13,000 guns off the streets of the city of New York,
Starting point is 00:52:56 who the victims are black and brown people. When I go to community meetings and talk to community residents, they don't tell me, Eric, we don't want more police. They say, Eric, we want our police doing their jobs correctly and that is what I'm doing I we got more with Eric Adams and Ole Emi when we come back it's the Breakfast Club good morning everybody is DJ and VJ Solari Charlamagne the guy we also have Ole Emi joining us and we got a special guest Eric Adams may Eric Adams in the building Ole Emi crime has a crime is connected to what is happening in the city and the experiences of people.
Starting point is 00:53:28 This is the most expensive city in the world. We had a global pandemic where businesses closed and people out of work. So if you saw crime, it was connected to that. But you're saying also, you're saying that you've turned it around, NYPD's abuses. But just last year, we paid out $150 million in settling police misconduct from NYPD, and that was double the number. That's double the number in police misconduct since you became mayor. You know, I noticed something.
Starting point is 00:53:52 I noticed how much passion and commitment you have. It's one of your constituents. And I'm one of my constituents, too, now. You know what I'm saying? And I grew up in the city. I noticed, and this is what I hear often of those who articulate when a person in a blue uniform commits an inappropriate act. Balance that with what we're doing to take the violence out of our communities. Because I know what I hear when I go to these community meetings.
Starting point is 00:54:18 I know what I hear when I go speak to these mothers who lost their children to violence. I know what I hear. You're not even talking about that at all. You know, first of all, I was a public defender. New Yorkers don't feel safe. And my original question was about how you relate to that. You said that New Yorkers don't
Starting point is 00:54:36 feel safe. There was a poll that came out last week. And in that poll that came out by the CBC, it stated that the priorities of Mayor Adams is moving the city in the right direction. My priority. Now, remember, two years, three months, brother. Two years, three months.
Starting point is 00:54:52 I inherited a pandemic. I inherited 180,000 migrants and asylum seekers that can't work, that we have to house them every day. You called for a lot of them, too, though. No, we didn't, brother. I said it was a sanctuary city. You told them it's the same place. Okay, let's see. That's why it's important to have this conversation
Starting point is 00:55:11 because sanctuary city and the migrants and asylum seekers are two different issues. Sanctuary city, if you're undocumented, we can't turn you over to ICE or authority. Migrants and asylum seekers were paroled into here. They're here legally. They were paroled into. But what the federal government did and Governor Abbott did, they said, we're going to send them up to Chicago, New York, Boston. And the federal government is saying, Eric, you can't allow them to work. You've got to give them housing. You can't stop the buses
Starting point is 00:55:40 from coming in. You cannot turn them over to ICE. All of that is illegal. If I do that, we're breaking law. So when people look at the migrants that are here, we didn't call people to come here. They were sent here by Governor Abbott. And the failure to secure our borders is allowing us to continue. And we're not getting any money. We got about $100 million out of a $4 billion price tag. Look at what's happening in Chicago right now.
Starting point is 00:56:05 My brother, Mayor Johnson, over there, what's happening with him? Look what's happening in Boston. Look what's happening in Houston, Los Angeles. And then do a comparative analysis of what's happening on our streets here. A lot of people are upset, too. They feel like the prison reform is bad for New York City. They're saying people do crimes, they get out immediately, and then they commit the crimes. We just seen an officer that passed away a couple of days ago rest in peace to him and
Starting point is 00:56:27 always healing energy to his family but they say that individual was arrested for a gun and has a record the size of we don't know what and they're saying that people are doing crimes and they're getting back out officers don't want to arrest people a lot of officers don't even want to be officers anymore because the people that they arrest and get out so fast so what do you say to that and brother let me tell you something i say this term all the time idealism collides with realism this far leftist mindset that believes we should not have a criminal justice system in place we're going to look like some of these other cities that you're seeing with a lack of a criminal justice system in place we're losing correction correction offices. We're losing district attorneys.
Starting point is 00:57:06 We're losing police offices. We're losing probation offices. We're losing school safety agents. Every piece of our public safety apparatus that the everyday working class person wants, we're seeing it all of a sudden erode and we're going to
Starting point is 00:57:22 lose the foundation of our prosperity and that's public safety. So when you look at these cases we have three problems in this city that if you dig into it you'll see how they continue to intersection between each other what are they we have one we have a recidivist problem this is we we it's a revolving door the person who shot that police officer his driver was just arrested for having a gun in April of last year. Now he's back doing the same thing all over again. These guys are arrested 10, 15 times. It's a small population of people that are repeated offenders.
Starting point is 00:57:57 The second problem that we have in the city is a severe mental health problem. I'm not talking about just somebody that's depressed, someone that's going through a bad day. I'm talking about a severe mental health problem. Go look at these cases of assaulting passengers, pushing people on the subway track. The cat that pushed a person on the subway track the other day, in and out of the system. And so when I came into office, I said,
Starting point is 00:58:19 we can't keep just walking by these people that are dealing with severe mental health issues. We need to give them wraparound services and care. The far pushed against me oh my gosh you're inhumane you you just want to take people off the streets no i said no in this city that is not what happened people are not gonna live in encampments they're gonna live in tents go look at los angeles go look at oregon go look at all these other cities where you see tent city san francisco you see tent city people when i went out in january februisco you see tent city people when i went out in january february when i got elected in 2022 i went out without my security team and started
Starting point is 00:58:50 visiting people in tents and encampments and started talking to them bipolar schizophrenic human waste drug power finale stale food i said i'm not going to do this my city's not going to be like san francisco it's not going to be like these other cities where you're watching people living on streets in tents and tents. You don't see that in New York City. Third problem we have is random acts of violence. If you have 24 hours in a day and something that happens to you in an hour in a day, you start to define yourself as that entire day. Those random acts of violence are plastered on social media. They're plastered on newspapers. they're plastic on on the newspaper
Starting point is 00:59:25 they're plastered on everything people begin to believe that oh i'm living in the city that's out of control we are not she made a good point though if new york if nypd is reposting that kind of stuff what are we supposed to think i said no no i said at the beginning i got a phone brother no no nypd's page is doing this has recently been there so much so that they're arguing with journalists on there. It's NYPD on their own Twitter pages that are posting and sensationalizing crime. And I said this at the beginning. You said that there's a difference between perception and reality. How people feel afraid versus how safe New York actually is.
Starting point is 00:59:57 And I agree with you. But I said that it's your own rhetoric and NYPD's rhetoric that plays into that. And you did it just now. Because the reality is a condition of release for everybody. For every every crime whether it be non-bail eligible or bail eligible is that if you commit a crime you're re-arrested that you uh that you bail can and will be set on you so that's the first thing second of all they have conducted multiple studies but the brendan setter literally just put out one less than two percent of anybody in new york city that's released on bail is arrest re-arrested for any violent crime more importantly in the same in the same breath that we want in the same breath that you want to sensationalize me want to
Starting point is 01:00:28 highlight and point out oh an officer was killed the other day which is a rare occurrence across the united states but let alone in new york new york police officers have killed at least seven people this year including a 19 year old and nyp officer killed a 19 year old in queens yesterday i'm not going to dismiss the loss of a life of an innocent person that wears a uniform to protect us. But you do, of the 31 people dead at Rikers and the 19 year old killed yesterday. I feel like I don't want to take you out of context and I don't want people to all of a sudden criticize that you've been dismissive of a young man being shot and killed.
Starting point is 01:01:00 Mayor Adams, that's not going to work on me. I'm not trying to work anything on you. I lost a member of the police department. The same way I go to see the mother of the 11-month-old baby that was shot in the head when I first became a man, I sat in the hospital with her. The same way I go visit these mothers who lose their children to gun violence,
Starting point is 01:01:18 I go see them. Yes, but not the mothers of the people who are dying in Rikers. Just as I go to see the family member of a slain police officer, I go visit those parents that lose their loved ones in violence. Are you visiting the family? Do you do that? First of all, yesterday I held a Riker. I represented hundreds.
Starting point is 01:01:35 You went to visit the family member of a slain officer? No, not the slain officer. Okay, of course you did. But what about the 19-year-old that was killed yesterday by NYPD in Queens when he called for help? Have you said anything about that? Are you visiting them? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:48 First of all, that's... Is New York safe or not, Mariah? I'm sorry? Is New York safer or not? Okay. New York is the safest big city in America. You know, many people in the far left, they said, Eric, people should be allowed to sleep on the streets no matter what. They should be allowed to sit on your stoop and inject themselves with drugs.
Starting point is 01:02:04 They should be allowed to carry a gun and be able to come out the next day. Like, people disagree with me all the time. Earlier you asked me to point out the rhetoric. Earlier you asked me to point out specifically what you say. It's a fair monger about crime, so I just would like to say, exhibit A, like what you literally just did. We got more with the mayor. Eric Adams, when we come back, it's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:02:22 Good morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We also have Ola Yemi here. And we got a special guest, the mayor, Eric Adams, joining us this morning. The mayor of New York City, I should say. People are also upset that they feel like too much money is going to migrants and you're cutting too many programs, right? They're saying you're cutting the pre-K funding. Pre-K, $170 million in pre-K funding.
Starting point is 01:02:41 They're saying that you're cutting so many different funding for other people. Love this question, brother. People are feeling like they never have money for us, but as soon as migrants come into the country, they find money. And listen, people have a right to be angry. You know who's even more angry than they are? I am. I've been to Washington ten times
Starting point is 01:02:58 to talk about this subject. So people got a right to be pissed off of what they're doing to New York City. How can we fix that? We're cutting a lot of programs one day kids couldn't go to school because migrants took over the school no that's not that wasn't that wasn't accurate we always utilize our school buildings during the time of crisis and if we're saying to ourselves if there's some amazing when we had the major fire when i first became mayor and we saw that fire in the bronx bronx you know we had to take a school to take care of those people who lived in the building temporarily.
Starting point is 01:03:29 When we have major storms, we take a school to use it temporarily. Schools is part of the resources of the city. And thank God we had something called remote learning where people still, young people still able to go on to learn but we can't say we can't say we can't say that we will use the school building during the emergency but we're not going to do it for children that are migrants and assignment seekers some people say whatever you give in the morning what you're giving us go to the herc centers where they are the shelters the restrooms are outside the showers are outside they're sleeping on cots they get three basic meals a day and when i go visit them they said we don't want any of
Starting point is 01:04:05 this from you all we want to do is have the right to work so we can provide for ourselves in less than 30 days migrants uh won't be allowed to work per federal guidelines and they won't be allowed to be housed in nyc anymore in nyc anymore so where would they go after that they're finding their way out of the 184 000 60 of them found their way like many of us have done you notice you don't hear about them the way to go get housing in 30 days many of them we're giving them intense care we're not just telling you come here hang out for 30 days and we're not gonna help you no in those 30 days and if and if you're a young person you get 60 days but in those 30 days or 60 days we're giving you intense care we're showing you how to find your way in our city.
Starting point is 01:04:45 We're showing you how to go about applying for housing, how to go about applying for the services that you need. And some people are saying we never wanted to come to New York at all. We want to come to another city. But Governor Albin said, no, we're sending you to New York. Think about this for a moment. We got thousands of Ukrainian migrants. Thousands. Do you hear about them? No. Just Mexican and Africans. They have the right to work. So we wouldn't even be
Starting point is 01:05:14 having this conversation if we gave them the authority to work. And you know the real irony of this? We need workers. I need lifeguards. I need food service workers. Many of these migrants from Venezuela are nurses and other professionals. I need lifeguards. I need full service workers. Many of these migrants from Venezuela are nurses and other professionals. I need people to backstretch workers. Other states are telling me, Eric, we will take the migrants and asylum seekers if they just allow them to work.
Starting point is 01:05:35 We're not going to take them and just have them sit around every day. If they're allowed to work, we would take them. I agree with you. The national government. She agrees with you. I agree with you that migrants should be able to. She agrees with a lot of stuff. No, I trust you that I do not government. She agrees with you. I agree with you that migrants should be able to. She agrees with a lot of stuff. No, I trust you that I do not believe.
Starting point is 01:05:48 If she's on that train. I'm sitting here, Mayor Adams. She's going to be dialing 911. First of all, I ride the subway every day. I've worked as a public defender in this city and represented thousands of people. Two more questions. How do debit cards for migrants compare to New York City Welfare Benefit? Here's what happened.
Starting point is 01:06:02 We were paying people. By law, we got to feed them three meals a day we got to get feed the migrants um three meals a day when i told the team we spent we got to bring down the cost of this by 30 because it was costing us so much money 12 billion dollars over three years four billion dollars already one of the places was food we were seeing that we were having a 10 food waste so my team came together first deputy mayor sheena right first black woman to be a first deputy mayor she she came up with a team called mocha fire the mwbe black product they said that we can give people food cards where they can only purchase food and baby supplies. You will save $600,000 a month in costs.
Starting point is 01:06:48 People will buy the food that they want and not giving it to them from someone from some large conglomerate. Then they will have to spend the cars in the bodegas, the supermarkets, the local stores, so the money stays inside the community. And the program is run by a person of a person of color we're saving seven over seven million dollars a year we have no more food waste because people are buying what they want it's a black owned company so we put money back into a black businesses like i said i
Starting point is 01:07:17 was going going to do and you cannot buy anything but food or baby supplies it's a complete win but people heard it and it was sensationalized oh you're giving money to migrants they only get 13 a day for those three meals it's a winning program it's not that i have a problem with it i said again the sensationalism has a lot to do with the fact that you got up and declared that we have this migrant crisis and i thought it was interesting your earlier point about the difference between how ukrainian migrants are being received versus uh migrants black and latino migrants because again you gave a town hall where you were the one who gave this speech and and in fact like you incentivize new yorkers to feel this way
Starting point is 01:07:53 feel which way this feel like there is a migrant crisis where the migrants are being treated differently than them where they're getting resources that the migrants are getting resources that are not being given to them because you were the one who presented it to the city that you had to cut budgets across because of the migrant crisis, even though recently you decided that you all actually do have the money
Starting point is 01:08:09 to handle the migrant issue that just wasn't publicized as much. So this goes back to my original discussion. Sister, you're an attorney and I'm amazed. I think your art is, I'm just going to throw it out there
Starting point is 01:08:20 and make people feel that way. Before you say it, there's an entire council that knows you're lying. Sister, let me, we still don't have the money for the migrants. We spent $12 billion in three years. $4 billion
Starting point is 01:08:34 already. What I said to New Yorkers at that town hall, this issue will bankrupt, will destroy our city. This issue. You called specific countries. I remember you calling the countries that the migrants were from. They weren't the Ukrainian migrants.
Starting point is 01:08:48 You weren't talking about them. So what happened when we don't have... Hold on. Sister, I did not call the countries where they were from. I went to the country. It's on video, Mayor Adams. I remember you started that tour
Starting point is 01:09:00 before you were going to go to D.C. and when you were going to go to D.C. to talk to Joe Biden about the migrant crisis, but you were stopped because go to go dc and uh when you were going to go to dc to buy to talk to joe biden about the migrant crisis but you were stopped because they had the fbi had to take your phones good lord you just make up stuff they didn't make that up that's that's reported the fbi didn't seize your phone sister the fbi didn't seize your phones no they didn't investigate your top aides that's not happening what did you just say you just i said i remember the tour that you went on when you were going to the border And when did I come back? I came back because somebody had to take my phone?
Starting point is 01:09:27 Because it stopped I said I remember on the day of I remember it because it was recorded You got amnesia Me and the news Me and the media So what happens when New York City doesn't have the money for migrants? And then you know
Starting point is 01:09:38 The migrants are in this city And they probably have to do what most poor people have to do Which is sometimes resort to crime How is that going to make the city safe? Right, right. And that's part of the problem. The real focus should be on our national government that's saying, why are you doing this to New York?
Starting point is 01:09:53 Check out what they're doing. They're doing it to New York. They're doing it to Chicago. They're doing it to Los Angeles. They're doing it to Houston. What is the same in all those cities? All black men. All black men. All black men.
Starting point is 01:10:06 And so what we're saying, same thing that I'm going through here, my brother Johnson is going through. My sister Bass is going through. My brother Turner is going through. So our folks, what they wanted to happen, Governor Abbott wanted to happen, we're going to turn these cities against their mayors. We're going to create this environment where they're all going to go against their mayors. Go Google what they're doing to my brother in Chicago. Go Google what they're doing to Sister Bass. So the cities have now turned against these black mayors that are making real change for the first time.
Starting point is 01:10:42 By over-policing black people. And they're using this to say, okay, these black mayors are not competent. They can't run their cities. They're getting everything to the migrants and asylum seekers. This was a perfectly executed plan that we are buying into. To make black mayors look bad across the country. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:10:58 And when we're doing just the opposite. No migrant was going to Los Angeles until Bass became mayor. When the first female black mayor became mayor, when she became mayor, they said, let's start sending them to Los Angeles. They playing us, man. They playing us. You know that? I respect any elected official who can come have this conversation because these are the tough questions. From your constituents.
Starting point is 01:11:21 Without a doubt. Without a doubt. What can y'all do to work together? We should. Yeah. Because no matter the both of y'all care yeah without a doubt we have to separate the 10 of disagreement and focus on the 90 that we agree i know retrospectively i'm gonna be appreciated as a mayor that lived up to what i said i was going to do i'm not gonna do that now you know people always crap on us when we're in the ring. But when my gloves are hung up, people are going to look at, listen, that was an authentic, ball-headed, earring-wearing brother
Starting point is 01:11:54 that did his thing as the mayor of the city of New York. The most important city on the globe is being run by a person who was dyslexic, arrested, rejected, and now I'm elected to be the mayor of the city. Well, there you have it. It's Mayor Eric Adams. O-Limmy. O-Limmy. O-Limmy O'Lauren.
Starting point is 01:12:11 It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Yes! Yes, that was Chris Brown. That was Chris Breezy. Yes. Chris Breezy. Thank you to Mayor Eric Adams for pulling up.
Starting point is 01:12:19 Shout out to Mayor Eric Adams. Shout out to O-Limmy O'Lauren. Okay? O-Limmy O'Lauren. I don't think you said that right. No, I did say it right. I did. O-Lim Alorn. Okay? Ola Yemi Alorn. I don't think you said that right. No, I did say it right. I put, I did. Ola Yemi.
Starting point is 01:12:29 Ola Yemi. Okay. Look, I like that. She was in his ass, okay? Yes. Go follow. He wasn't backing down, though. No.
Starting point is 01:12:35 No, he wasn't at all. It was a great conversation. Go follow Ola Yemi at M-S-O-L-U-R-I-N. Miss Ola Yemi on Instagram. M-S-O-L-U-R-I-N. All right'Lauren on Instagram. M-S-O-L-U-R-I-N. All right. Well, let's get to Jess with the mess. News is real, brother.
Starting point is 01:12:49 Jess O'Lauren, Jessica Robin Moore. Jess don't do no lie. Jess don't do no lie. Hey, guys. I'm Kate Max. Starting point is 01:13:57 Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There are 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part
Starting point is 01:14:21 of a great colonial tradition. What could go wrong? I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets. We need help! We need help!
Starting point is 01:14:39 We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. Starting point is 01:15:47 Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's up? This is Ramses Jha. Starting point is 01:16:13 everything from prejudice to politics to police violence, and we try to give you the tools to create positive change in your home, workplace, and social circle. Exactly. Whether you're black, Asian, white, Latinx, indigenous, LGBTQIA+, you name it. If you stand with us, then we stand with you. Starting point is 01:16:49 Listen to Civic Cipher every Saturday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On Thanksgiving Day, 1999, a five-year-old boy floated alone in the ocean. He had lost his mother trying to reach Florida from Cuba. He looked like a little angel. I mean, he looked so fresh. And his name, Elian Gonzalez, will make headlines everywhere.
Starting point is 01:17:14 Elian Gonzalez. Elian Gonzalez. Elian. Elian. Elian Gonzalez. At the heart of the story is a young boy and the question of who he belongs with.
Starting point is 01:17:25 His father in Cuba. Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him. Or his relatives in Miami. Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom. At the heart of it all is still this painful family separation. Something that as a Cuban, I know all too well. Listen to Chess Peace, the Elian Gonzalez story, as part of the My Cultura podcast network,
Starting point is 01:17:51 available on the iHeartRadio app, was able to get y'all to see something and understand something that nobody could get you to see it's time to set it off safari announces his new book allure of celebrity dating you got something to do with that no i don't that was me i would have told him to name it, Nah, that ain't it. Right, please. That's a better headline. Definitely. And then also, I've been seeing that his page,
Starting point is 01:18:33 he said his page was hacked after a post on Twitter about wanting to attend Nicki Minaj's concert in disguise. He said he was going to wear a jean vest. And so he posted that like a couple nights ago. He just said he was going to wear a jean vest? Yeah, I'm going to be in disguise and i'm gonna be wearing a jean vest you can be the only one in there wearing that so they're gonna see you talking about a disguise and but he said that wasn't him that posted it the next morning he
Starting point is 01:18:53 was like oh my god my my um my account was hacked nobody nobody believed nobody believed that and listen i'll be so sick of celebrities doing that they they'll post something i think they'd be all liquored up and all hot up you know he's somebody okay you know and and he'd be hot up and drink and drinking and stuff and then they post they got the liquid courage and they post and then they wake up the next day and they're like oh my god and then they say that they were hacked i was a person that was truly hacked they don't just hack and give you your stuff back like that that takes a so they gotta wait they gotta wait like you should wait three four days yeah dummy like you can't just wake up and be like oh no i was hacking and then you didn't even delete the the post that you said that the other people were posting but here's the thing if he wants to go see nikki minaj perform
Starting point is 01:19:35 why can't he go see nikki minaj perform i mean he can he was clearly the one of the first barbs he was probably the first barb so far the first barb probably her first super fan yes so why can't he just go to the show you go with security so the barbs don't try to attack you and i don't think they're gonna do nothing to you in person yeah of course it's about how safari move it's about how like it's just so funny that'd be funny to watch safari in the crowd with nikki though and while nik performing, he doing all the moves from the crowd. You son of a, I'm talking about doing all the ad-libs. She ain't even performing.
Starting point is 01:20:07 She ain't even performing did it on him. But look, it's interesting because after that, then he announced the new title of his book, The Allure of Celebrity Dating.
Starting point is 01:20:16 So I think this was all a rollout. Okay. But it's getting tired, Safari. No. Congratulations, Safari. Congratulations, congratulations.
Starting point is 01:20:23 Are you going to read it? No, because that's something I'm interested in. I like Safari Magado, but I'm not interested in the allure of celebrity dating. Why would I be interested in that? You're going to read it. Singer Mariah the Scientist has been trending on social media after she was seen getting into a
Starting point is 01:20:39 physical altercation in an Atlanta bar. Now, I saw this yesterday, right? Now, the video started, she was already on the floor. All right? And then she was struggling to get up, you know, rolling around down there. And she had a hoodie on. So, you know, she meant business or whatever. But they was, like, speculating to see who it was.
Starting point is 01:20:55 Now, Cleopatra, I believe Cleopatra's from New York, right? She is from, she, all right. But either way, they said it was her. Then they said it was one of Young Thug's baby moms. What's more believable is that it would be Young Thug's baby mom one of them that's just more believable
Starting point is 01:21:09 in my opinion and Cleopatra's spokesperson said no she ain't had nothing to do with that I think she's a rapper or something like that who won the fight though
Starting point is 01:21:16 I don't know it started with her on the floor they said she ran up and she got put down but she was still cute when she got up wouldn't that suck if you was winning the fight
Starting point is 01:21:26 but as soon as somebody started recording this, wouldn't the person... I know. But yeah, she the one that came in there looking for the fight and then when they started the video, she was already on the damn floor. So either go hard or go home, though.
Starting point is 01:21:38 It's not like you're talking about wrestlers for real, though. Because WrestleMania is this weekend. Mariah, The Scientist, Cleopatra. I know. Them names sound like wrestling names, don't they? All right, look. for real though. WrestleMania is this weekend. Mariah the Scientist, Cleopatra. I know. Them names sound like wrestling names, don't they? All right, look.
Starting point is 01:21:49 If you're looking for a Bible, a Bible. Bible head? Bible. Oh, Bible. Y'all know it's my accent. If you're looking for a Bible, Trump is now selling them
Starting point is 01:22:00 for $60, y'all, and it includes the U.S. Constitution. Tracy Morgan calls Ozempic great and says he was glad to use it. Listen, a lot of people making fun of him for this, but so many people are against it
Starting point is 01:22:16 as I do the quote-unquote thing. But, listen, it helps some people. And if it helps them in any way, I say, since so many people acting like they don't get it and they're so against it, why not have somebody speak up and be like, shoot, I'm glad to use this.
Starting point is 01:22:30 All these people that lose all that weight are probably on Ozempic. I don't have no problem with you being an Ozempic gold medalist. The only thing I would tell you is that what are the long-term effects of using Ozempic? I'm talking about long-term. You don't know how that's going to affect you in the long run. Yeah, and there's some people you can tell use it
Starting point is 01:22:44 because, you know, the skin is still flabby that it don't tighten your skin up i thought you could tell because their head is usually big it look like a bobble head yeah like people can't lose weight in their head they look like how people looked when they first like back in the day when they first started getting like the surgeries the light bulb and wasn't telling nobody that's how they look now but you can look like oh remember the ki, remember Ken Wheat's B-A-S-T-A-R-D? No. Oh, I thought you were about to say somebody's name. Fat Bastard from... Yeah, I know Fat Bastard.
Starting point is 01:23:07 Oh, no. Yeah, remember on the movie? Remember he had got the surgery and he was all flabby? Yes. Like that. People used to walk around looking like that. Like, and I went to the gym. I'm like, please don't say that.
Starting point is 01:23:16 No, just Fat Bastard. Okay. All right. OVO Chubbs. Yeah, I thought so too. I thought so too. I had my finger on the dumb button just in case. But listen, OVO Chubbs.
Starting point is 01:23:24 And he ain't even chubby. Who? OVO Chubbs. He ain't even chubby. Who? OVO Chubbs. No. Oh, he not. He not even chubby. Why is his name Chubbs? It's not a part of the story.
Starting point is 01:23:31 It's not a part of the Ozempic story. Oh, never mind. I'm sorry. Yeah. Chubbs. So this is Drake Manz, Lord Chubbs. He said, little boy Kendrick should drop Drake this, but he no better. Ooh.
Starting point is 01:23:42 So whatever. Well, actually, it's Drake's turn to drop the diss. Because Kendrick said what he said on the Future record. actually, it's Drake's turn to drop the diss because Kendrick said what he said on the Future record. It's actually Drake's turn to reply. But I think there was rumors
Starting point is 01:23:50 that people said they heard a Kendrick diss or there was a Kendrick diss done. Yeah, but that's what you got in the tuck. By the way, I'm sure Drake got something in the tuck, too.
Starting point is 01:23:56 I'm just saying it's actually Drake's turn right now. Kendrick already did what he did. It's your turn now, Drake. But look, all right, I see your finger,
Starting point is 01:24:04 but listen because they cut my rumor short so look multiple women online saying they were punched by walking just walking around in new york city yes yes and that's crazy because you did bring this up a little bit but one woman said she was assaulted walking home and this is all in broad daylight y'all this is nobody not waiting till it's dark another man i mean another woman said she was assaulted on her way to work the third woman said she was assaulted on her way to work. The third woman says she was attacked by walking her dog. And two of the women described the same suspect.
Starting point is 01:24:30 Yeah. Right. And all the women were white. I just want to let y'all know that official said it's unclear whether the instance incidents they are investigating are connected. But they did find a guy. They arrested a guy. His name is Skoboki Stora. He's 40 years old and he is from Brooklyn.
Starting point is 01:24:46 He's arrested. The picture of him. Yeah, he does look deranged a little deranged he was knocking out karen's that's what it was all white women and it was this white lady you have audio played you guys i was literally just walking and a man came up and punched me in the face oh my god not it hurts so bad. I can't even talk. Literally, I fell to the ground and now this giant goose egg is forming and I'm like... Oh my god, it's so frozen. It's not like she's laughing, but you know, like... She's not, she's in shock for one. And also, the reason I said it wasn't real because she sounds so stereotypically white. Like she's like, like literally.
Starting point is 01:25:19 Oh, she sounded just like that. It looked just like that with a knot in her head. And they, and the other three look and sound just like that too. You know they white. So they just went and punched it out of nowhere. And man,
Starting point is 01:25:28 Adam's talking about this is the second safest city in the country. Well, what's the first? Baltimore? I don't understand. What's wrong with this man? But the sad part is
Starting point is 01:25:36 he's probably out already. He probably arrested him. He probably got a bond. He's probably out. Oh yeah, no, no. He was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection to the punching
Starting point is 01:25:44 and he's out. See? That's crazy crazy that's insane only me what you gonna say now girl you got to come forth all right that's the second hour oh my goodness so we give you a dog it's a man four after the hour i uh i don't know what to say about this story. But we'll talk about it. I want to have a discussion about it. But there's a Playboy Playmate who offered. She just wanted to get her man out of jail. We'll talk about it. Oh, no, that's fine.
Starting point is 01:26:13 Oh, she's a rider. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We'll talk about it. We'll get to it next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Wake up.
Starting point is 01:26:21 Wake up. You're locked into The Breakfast Club. Your execution on the donkey of the day is something to behold he gave me donkey of the day and i deserve it you need to know what you need to tell them i am you have the voice tell them it's time for donkey of the day it's a read but you're so good at it you're're trying to be a fake-ass Charlemagne. There only one Charlemagne in the world. Damn, Charlemagne. Who you giving Dusty of the Day to now?
Starting point is 01:26:50 Well, Sexy Red, Donkey of the Day for Friday, March 29th goes to a woman named Shannon Teresa Marie Swartz. She is a Playboy model. Yes, that Playboy. I don't know exactly what that means to be a Playboy model. I assume she's been in a Playboy or two
Starting point is 01:27:02 and she has posed in a bikini on the cover of maxim magazine yes maxim new zealand uh back in december but we need to have a discussion this morning about just how far a woman should go for her man now shannon who i will keep telling you is a playboy model has a boyfriend and her boyfriend's name is will helm lewis huntzinger he was charged with being a felon in possession of 205 rounds of remitting.223 caliber ammunition and some drugs and other stuff. And he's incarcerated in the Honolulu Federal Detention Center. Now, Shannon clearly loves her man and is willing to do anything to get her man out.
Starting point is 01:27:40 But if I was her man, I wouldn't want her to offer what she offered to get him out no no no see ladies as a man i don't want you to do anything that is going to possibly cause you to be in the same situation that i'm in and in this case it's jail and i definitely don't want you giving away what you gave away see shannon made a bribe to one of the officers what do you think a playboy playmate would offer this federal officer in exchange for releasing her shannon offered the agent blank to help him persuade the judge to release her boyfriend the agent says he received numerous missed calls text messages and voicemails from shannon shannon told the agent that she was referred to him as someone who could handle a situation for a high profile inmate shannon who was a playboy playmate told the
Starting point is 01:28:26 agent that she was trying to secure her boyfriend's release and asked the agent to meet with him so so he could see she was serious and she could give him what she had for him ladies this isn't the way i appreciate the help but do you really believe your boyfriend would be okay with this this is why you tell men when they go to jail don't worry about what's going on outside okay you can't control what your woman wants to give someone while you locked up you will drive yourself crazy trying to control what a woman wants to give someone while you locked up and i damn sure don't want you giving things to other men okay saying you're doing it for me shannon allegedly text the agent i can help with whatever you need not sure what your services cost you paying him to service you first of all
Starting point is 01:29:07 that's trafficking okay and you know what the agent did after she texted he opened a formal investigation in the shannon hot ass okay i guess shannon didn't know it was an open investigation because she was too busy trying to open something else the playboy playmate uh shannon allegedly continued to contact the agent despite the agent informing her i can't do nothing to help in regards to securing her boyfriend's release but she's a playboy playmate did the cover of maxim so the agent agreed to meet with shannon also because shannon wouldn't stop trying to throw it at the agent the agent said she was persistent in asking for help now uh this is when the agent was either trying to set
Starting point is 01:29:46 her up or she was wearing him down because the agent told shannon that he would have to continue communicating with her on his personal phone now i'm joking he was just trying to set her up because it was actually an undercover undercover government device to monitor their conversations and during a meeting between the playboy playmate and the agent she allegedly offered to give the agent this bribe so he could ask a judge he was friends with to help aid the release of her boyfriend. And she told the agent, I'll give you some now and give you some with my boyfriend's release. Now, what would you tell your boyfriend?
Starting point is 01:30:21 What? Okay, what man would be okay with that? Indy, would you be okay with your woman doing that? No. Jess, would you do that boyfriend? What? Okay, what man would be okay with that? Embi, would you be okay with your woman doing that? No. Jess, would you do that for your man? No. Ladies, we love y'all, but don't be giving up what's ours to get me out. Shannon then arranged a second meeting with the agent.
Starting point is 01:30:36 How many dates they gonna go on? This is too much. Mmm. And at the airport, she gave him something. Remember she promised,, I'll give you something now, and then something when he gets out. Right. But I thought they were investigating. Right. So he not in trouble?
Starting point is 01:30:52 That was part of the investigation. To see if she would really do it. Do what? No, no, no, no, no. Fallatio. No, no, no, no. Oral. No.
Starting point is 01:31:03 Bag shots. Butt. Like, what's. Backshots? Butt? No. What's wrong? Get your mind off the gutter. Breast massage? She was offering him money. Okay, $5,000.
Starting point is 01:31:11 She gave him $2,500. Oh, she banned. Yeah, she gave him $2,500 at the airport. And after the meeting, she was arrested and charged with one count of bribery of a public official and one count of obstruction of justice. And she's barred from communicating with her boyfriend. Oh, yeah. You asked what I do that for.
Starting point is 01:31:25 Yeah, oh, yeah, I do that for my man. It's illegal, Jess. You can't bribe a federal agent. It's like, no, it's like, no. Oh, my God. I thought it was like allegedly, allegedly.
Starting point is 01:31:34 Get your mind out the gutter. Yeah, that's what I'm like, no. You kept saying playmate. Playmate. Playmate. Playmate. Right, so that's what we're thinking. She's a playboy, playmate,
Starting point is 01:31:43 and she couldn't wait to open her bank account. That is not your business. Y'all are ridiculous. I can't believe y'all. Y'all need to get your minds off the gutter. Y'all got kids. Grow up.
Starting point is 01:31:50 You're so funny, y'all. Grow up. Please give Shannon, Teresa Marie Schwartz the biggest hee-haw. I can't believe these people I work with. When you said open up, then you put your little seductive voice on. You put your little seductive voice on. He know how he try to make his sound. Open up her bank account. I'll give you something.
Starting point is 01:32:07 Yes, money. Nobody says I'll give you some money like that. So it don't even matter to share Playboy Playmate. It don't matter. Well, it matters if you're a good storyteller. Well, it matters if you're a good storyteller. Yeah, you're a clown though. Because you really funny.
Starting point is 01:32:24 Now, I wonder if she would have offered that if the agent would have said, you know what, maybe. Right. Possible. Damn, so now both of them in jail. Both of them locked up. Both of them. So now them mama got to come get them. Right.
Starting point is 01:32:37 Them mama got to offer something, I guess. Yeah, she ain't got no money. She probably ain't got no money. She probably be like, I got something else. Take them dentures out and get to work. Yeah. She don't know how old her mama is though oh man all right well thank you for that donkey today you trash for tricking us all right when we come back fat joe will be joining us we're gonna kick it with joey crack crack when we come back it's the breakfast club good morning the

You go to a Dominican barbershop up in Washington Heights, you might have a spot that just don't connect. They make your shit look like Jalen Rose.
Starting point is 01:34:14 You see how Jalen Rose is looking like? You could cut your finger off. I've been trying to get him on the box. He said, yo, Joe, I'm not ready for that yet. You know, it's been a stigma. Starting point is 01:37:37 So, like, when Muhammad Ali fought for the championship in Madison Square, I'm doing that type of shit. Like, when they make a movie about this time 30 years from now, they're going to say The Night in Harlem. And Fat Joe's Lean Back and the whole planet Earth came. It was too much in there. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself, and leaning into her dreams.
Starting point is 01:40:20 I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, it was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace, have grace with yourself. You're trying your best and you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before. Listen to Civic Cipher every Saturday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On Thanksgiving Day, 1999, a five-year-old boy floated alone in the ocean. He had lost his mother trying to reach Florida from Cuba.
Starting point is 01:42:15 He looked like a little angel. I mean, he looked so fresh. And his name, Elian Gonzalez, will make headlines everywhere. Elian Gonzalez. Elian. Elian. Elian. Elian. Elian. Elian Gonzalez. Elian Gonzalez. Elian. Elian. Elian Gonzalez.
Starting point is 01:42:26 At the heart of the story is a young boy and the question of who he belongs with. His father in Cuba. Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home and he wanted to take his son with him. Or his relatives in Miami. Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom. At the
Starting point is 01:42:46 heart of it all is still this painful family separation. Something that as a Cuban, I know all too well. Listen to Chess Peace, the Elian Gonzalez story, as part of the My Cultura podcast network, available on the iHeartRadio
Starting point is 01:43:02 app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Amateur night. I won four weeks in a row on amateur night. So when I come back, it's always just home for me, you know? So we did 360. We're doing Apollo April 2nd. It's crazy. I'm telling you, it's going to be crazy. What did Leanback do for Fat Joe's career and his life? Well, God did a lot for me you know i'm saying
Starting point is 01:43:26 i went rich i thought i could save the whole neighborhood 30 guys and cadillac trucks and paying everybody's bills and buying lobsters every night for 30 guys then i went broke i remember after what's love i was on my knees on my knees because that's what you got to do it you got to like really feel the pain when you really praying for a miracle God one more chance, please one more chance one more time. He gave me that one more chance Yeah, that thing went number one in the world. I remember the joint came out I don't know if we could talk too much but it was like three days after the song came out and little John asked me to come out at a show with him and
Starting point is 01:44:04 perform mm-hmm and days after the song came out and little john asked me to come out at a show with him and perform and 62 000 people were doing this three days after it was all like this now i remember i looked to the back and kanye west was hiding behind the wall he was like oh we got one you know and so uh for me i don't get high i don't really do nothing ain't nothing wrong smoke your weed do whatever you want to do but for me adrenaline, my get high is putting out hit records, hearing it in every call. You know, lean back. What it did do was they was playing this in the club. Like, I walk in the club.
Starting point is 01:44:37 I mean, literally 30, 40 times in a row. Like, you'd be dizzy in there. You're like in there, pan, pan, pan. I'm looking at it like, damn, is this shit going to stop? You know what I'm saying? And they just, incredible moment for hip hop music. And of course, for me, rap. Is Lean Back a 1B or number two?
Starting point is 01:44:55 What do you mean? In your catalog. Like, what's your best song ever? If I say, I'm not going to say best. I'll say biggest. Biggest, I think, would be What's Love. The best song. Not best.
Starting point is 01:45:06 The best is Lean Back Okay Lean Back is Because you know why It's like Shook Ones It was made Like you said For the gutter For the streets
Starting point is 01:45:14 For the this For the that And then We had Britney Spears In them singing that joint And Pink in them I was performing At one time
Starting point is 01:45:22 When I did What's Love I seen no black Or Spanish people For like a year And I was like Yo when time when I did What's Love. I seen no black or Spanish people for like a year. And I was like, yo, when are we going to perform this record for black and Spanish people? Because be careful of you blowing up. You were Jelly Roll. You ain't even seeing black or Spanish people. It's like, you know, because they're giving you the bag.
Starting point is 01:45:41 You're doing every big coliseum everywhere. You don't even know what's going on toby keith next is you and and what's crazy is when i did what's love everything prior to that was just gangster music so if you hide fat joe for 20 minutes and i don't care you the whitest guy in america he's cursing for 15 minutes he's's going bad. Like, I didn't know nothing else. I just, all I could do was perform gangster music and What's Love. Like, they'd be like, oh, my God, this is the What's Love guy? Like, you know, I mean, it's just the reality of it. All right, we got more with Fat Joe. When we come back, don't move.
Starting point is 01:46:18 It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Good morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We're still kicking it with Fat Joe. Now, I see you jumped into politics a little bit. A little bit?
Starting point is 01:46:28 Man, Fat Joe will be man New York one day. No, no. Yes. No, sir. It's happening. I see you getting into that game a little bit. I don't know if it's... Not a game.
Starting point is 01:46:36 Not a game. Not a game. It's price transparency. Me and Power to the Pacers, we're going to Washington. I went one time. So, what's going on is there's 100 million Americans in debt because of hospital bills. The hospital, this right here, you can go as $9.99, $12.99. You know the price.
Starting point is 01:46:54 You know what the water is, $5.99, $6.99. You go to the hospital, you don't know what they charging you. A kid goes in the thing for EpiPen, they charge him $16,500. He goes online and Googles that an EpiPen is only $200. And so you could go to the same, this ain't black or Spanish either. You go in the hospital right now, and hospitals all over America, every single hospital, they're charging you $2,000 for an MRI. They're charging him $26,000. They're charging him $64,000. Same hospital, same doctors $26,000 They charging $164,000
Starting point is 01:47:25 Same hospital, same doctors, same tests I don't think that's right I don't think that's fair And so the American people are dying because of this Because what happens when you ain't got no family No money, the family feuds We break up the household And this is the only thing that's bipartisan
Starting point is 01:47:42 So it's Republican Democrat, it's black, it's republican democrat it's black it's white it's muslim it's jewish everything across the board this issue is dear to me i went there three years ago and i remember a journalist girl said yo fat joe what are you doing here i said well i came for pressure she was like good luck this is washington nothing gets done here i'm like yo i'm like you know we hip-hop we created all this from nothing. Trillion dollar business. You and you live in a castle off a hip hop. Do you get that?
Starting point is 01:48:10 So who's going to tell you you can't get a law passed or whatever the case? I go back the next year. Thirty five. The first year, only one politician met with the Republican from Kentucky. His name was Guthrie. So I know what you're talking about. You know, I got family. All right, cool. Thirty five. I went last year. name was Guthrie. He said, I know what you're talking about. You know, I got family. All right, cool.
Starting point is 01:48:26 35. I went last year. It was 85 politicians. They passed a law in Congress that's cool, but it says estimates. Estimates are bullshit. Estimates ain't the real price. We want the price. So there's a new law coming from Bernie Sanders and Senator Braun that says you got to be held accountable for the pricing.
Starting point is 01:48:46 And so that's my true passion. Did you? I know. I know you got a bunch of phone calls when you did your video with the Trump. The Trump. The common. I was going to the common. It wasn't the flex.
Starting point is 01:48:57 The common. Look, all you know, I wasn't the flex. No, it wasn't the flex. You know, I'm a big sneaker collector. It wasn't it. I own thousands and thousands. I got the rarest sneakers. If Michael Jackson made a sneaker collector. It wasn't it. I own thousands and thousands. I got the rarest sneakers. If Michael Jackson made a sneaker made out of the white glove, I got it.
Starting point is 01:49:10 I got a sneaker that's made for Prince that Prince never got. Like, I got all the rarest sneakers in America, but that was not the flex. The Kamala call you, though. Did she call you and be like, Joe? Nah, they know where my heart is at. They know where that heart is at they know what that was just it was wrong it was that stuff sneak that's all it was i saw you you was the only person america got it right it was sneaky ass stuff but wrong you know why you know why because
Starting point is 01:49:38 i'm mature enough to put myself out staying out the box be like yo if cam run would it do them sneakers up you gotta come around charlamagne you gotta come around man because you know this guy see we have a short no no we have a short-term memory we have a short-term memory we forget that two years ago we was all like sick of this guy we wanted it and now we like we want the guy back. Because when you don't co-sign this side, you leave it open to like, you know, you go over there. And I don't like the way it felt. I did not like the way that time felt when he was president. I'm trying to get a law passed, so I don't want to go too partisan with it.
Starting point is 01:50:21 But you know what I mean? I tell people that, you know that he's a threat to democracy. Come on, man. He let an attempted coup. Come on, man. I'm not home. No, no, no. You're home.
Starting point is 01:50:30 I don't feel like that's our home. Let me tell you what it is. This is the one problem I got, and this is with all my friends, because I got a lot of Trumpers around. He's not a Trumper. No, no. Yeah, but when you stay neutral, what Martin Luther King says, silence is... You know, he not feeling Joe Biden and Kamala, right?
Starting point is 01:50:52 I like Kamala. So, you like Kamala? Yeah. Damn, that's good news. That's a break in... I like Kamala. That's a break. All right.
Starting point is 01:50:58 That's a break in what I thought. Now, but what I'm saying is, to nothing it's like to co-sign that my thing is i believe in we all made enough money we all from here we want to make more i believe in capitalism but i believe in looking out for the less fortunate cause my best friends who are republicans and trumpers they said bro you make so much money you want to save in tax there's a morality clause there for me where i don't feel good just saving taxes. And I got to deal with, you know, there's two donkeys out here. There's one that you put the thing on.
Starting point is 01:51:32 And if you don't put the saddle on him, he can't walk straight. He's a donkey. Right? We're going to use that. Yo, listen, then there's another donkey. You make your choice when it's time, man, whatever the case may be. But I'm just trying to tell you, man, it's serious times out here. I like to think I'm with the righteous team.
Starting point is 01:51:53 You know what I'm saying? That's just what I'm saying. And for all the people who got on me for showing them Trump sneakers. No, no, no, no, no, no. They ignited the base. You know, I've never seen hate like this in my life. Like, viral mania. Oh, he's a sellout.
Starting point is 01:52:10 You know, they was like, I'm like, damn, I wish you guys come out to the polls. Like, you really feel that way? But what gets me confused about politics is why this is a scary part of politics. Four days later, I'm with Kamala in the White House. Oh, what you doing with this woman? Oh, what's wronging With these people man You understand I'm old enough to know
Starting point is 01:52:30 That I'm not a sellout I'm trying to get you guys A pardon Okay I'm sitting with her Navigating Yo Joe We giving pardons out
Starting point is 01:52:41 Oh sure I would love to sit next to you For this one right Like We gonna give some people pardons. But Joe got to go, guys. Joe Critac. April 2nd to Apollo.
Starting point is 01:52:50 That's right. Get your tickets now. I mean, it's sold out. But if you could get one to buy from a scalper. People tell me, Terror Squad, we a different DNA. You see how Khaled move? See how I move? I don't take nothing for chance.
Starting point is 01:53:04 If my sneaker came out, I wouldn't give the sneaker to anybody who would take it to make sure it's sold out. I'm going to put in that work. So the Apollo sold out already. Congratulations. But I'm still making my rounds to let y'all know you're going to miss something. It's an all-time high in New York. It's a billion dollars on the stage at one night at the Apollo, April 2nd.
Starting point is 01:53:29 I don't know who else is coming. J-Lo coming out, I'm sure. It's going to get dumb. I can't confirm them. But in the world of hip-hop, there is nobody who's not calling the phone, talking about, we pulling up. You know, the whole Philly coming. The Beanie Seagulls, the this, this, that, the this, this, the anybody you could think of on the planet.
Starting point is 01:53:52 The Marv Deeps, the this, the Kims, the Kiss. They won't stop. The Fort, like your OG, we're going to salute you. We're going to see how smooth. It's just not gonna stop you might see you might of course you might see
Starting point is 01:54:09 out of nowhere girl I've been thinking about you all day long like we going real 88 on them
Starting point is 01:54:16 we going real 90 it's getting dark I mean gee you boo we can get it boo we can get it Boom We can get the drama poppin'
Starting point is 01:54:27 Boom boom boom It's going duck man Amen Y'all never performed together right? I mean We performed together I'm not saying I'm just trying to say
Starting point is 01:54:35 In the hip hop wish list Yeah That's what I'm trying to tell you Is a billion dollars on the stage It could be anybody That'd be crazy They might just come through Gliding like
Starting point is 01:54:44 You know what i'm saying what i can tell you is not a single person i have called that said no that's all i'm saying not one person you might be in there go milk is chilling gizmos chilling what more can i say you're selling this already sold out that's crazy how. Starting point is 01:59:21 Shout out to Tez. But essentially, every night on TikTok, I go live and I just listen to artist submissions. So if you submit music to me, I have it in my link in bio. We go live and then I have a team of people that pretty much help me pick through the records. So if you like the record, I'll probably add you to my mix when I'm spinning. Or I might chat you out on here.
Starting point is 01:59:42 But it would have to be great. So Tez joined in to actually help me judge records. Nice. I like the two records you picked today. I noticed whenever you got your natural hair out, the music is better. Hangers. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:59:52 That's a fact. That's a fact. That's a fact. You always pick up music. You always hook up. I mean, you do, but when the natural hair is out, like, you really, mwah, knock out the pop. Just say you like the afro.

When you've been entrenched in something so long, like you know, it never really leaves you. So yeah, I'm a witness to Jehovah's great glory. So if somebody brings, knocks on your door, since you were Jehovah's great glory.
