Starting point is 00:02:43 How y'all are you feeling? What up? Oh, yeah. What's up? You ain't sound not excited. You sound tired. No, man. Yeah, I'm really trying to dig deep and get some energy, yo.
Starting point is 00:02:50 You're digging deep. Yes, yes, yes. I got California this weekend. I'm going to be in Sacramento tomorrow, me, Donna Rawlins, Sheiko, Bean, and D. Ray Davis. So I'm getting ready to head out for that today. Okay, all right. And, of course, this weekend is my last car show of the year. I'm super duper excited today.
Starting point is 00:03:06 It's loading day. But it is also Mercedes, who is my general manager and assistant. It's her birthday. She turns 40 today. Go ahead, big Mercedes. She's in the 40-40 clubs. She's in the 40-40 club. So salute to Mercedes.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Go ahead, Mercedes. I'm so proud to have a Mercedes. You know when you work with somebody and you see them grow? When I met Mercedes in 2020? What do you mean Sierra grows? She's 6'5. First of all, he's talking about in life. In life.
Starting point is 00:03:29 With a size 12 and a half shoe. In life. Oh. When I met her, I met her in 2020 right before COVID. Yeah. She was always that big when you met her? She was always that big. She played basketball.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Oh, yes. So when I met her, she had three roommates. She lived in her crib, and it was three roommates. They shared the common space and this day. And he ever to see her purchase her own friends. Remnants. Rememates ain't had no room. Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:03:51 to have her own. I'm proud of Mercedes. That's why she always stepping on your lawyer. But happy birthday to Mercedes. Happy born day, so they would have been the 40th born day of the late great Nipsey Hustle as well.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Yes, yes. They would have been his 40th born day as well, man. That's right. And he's been to the breakfast club a couple of times, and we're going to get one of those interviews back on this morning for his birthday.
Starting point is 00:04:12 So rest and peace, always to Nipsey Hustle. And Snoop will be joining us. Not Snoop Dog, but Felicia Snoop Pearson. Period. Period. That's too much Baltimore. That's too much Baltimore in this morning.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Why? Between Felicia and Jessica. Felicia. Okay, first of all, don't call her Felicia. Oh, that's not her stunt name? What's her stut name? No, I'm the Snoop. Snoop.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Snoop? And you know, Snoop from the Wire. She's also on a show on BET Plus called American Gangster Trap Quees. And trap queens is what they do is they highlight a woman that was in the game, whether it was... In the streets. In the streets. Whether it was selling drugs or it was prostitution. or whatever it may be.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Not glorifying, though. They're just telling a person's story. Yeah, because they actually did one on her. Yeah. Yes, but, you know, she's overcome that. She's never been a prostitute, Envy. So, yeah. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:05:01 I was saying a very gangster trap queens is women that are, you know, not prostitutes, but actually run the whole ring and things like that. Madams. That's the term I was looking for. For real. All right. But she did play a prostitute. She did.
Starting point is 00:05:14 She was happy to play one too. Snoop did play a prostitute. She'll break it all down. All right. We got front. News. Morgan will be joining us. And we got the record? Yes. All right. Let's get into the record we've been talking about all week long. It's international, no, I was about to say international plays anthems. Imaginary player. This is Cardi B. Let's get it on right now. Oh, snap. It's the
Starting point is 00:05:34 Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ NV. Jess Alarious. Sholomey and Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Let's get in some front page news. What's up, Morgan? Hey, y'all. Hey, how we feeling on the Friday? Good. Good. Bigger. All right. I love to hear it. Okay, so first on front page, some drama took place out west yesterday. Border agent showed up in Little Tokyo in downtown L.A. While California Governor Gavin Newsom and other Democratic lawmakers were talking about the redistricting efforts for their state. Now Newsom was visibly upset, calling the actions pathetic. He says it wasn't a coincidence and took direct aim at the Trump administration saying the action came from the top down. Let's hear more from California governor Gavin Newsom.
Starting point is 00:06:16 They chose the time, manner, in place to send their district director outside right when we're about to have this press guy. Wake up America. Wake up. You will not have a country if he rigs this election. So at least one person was detained during that raid, a guy selling strawberries, okay? L.A. Mayor Karen Bass said the man selling strawberries didn't pose a threat, and the border agent should have never showed up. She called the moves a provocative act. Let's take a listen to L.A. Mayor Karen Bass in her comments.
Starting point is 00:06:48 There is no way this was a coincidence. This was widely publicized that the governor and many of our other elected officials were having a press conference here. He did this intentionally to disrespect the governor and to disrespect our state. The court orders impose a temporary restraining order. You want to talk about law and order? What you saw here was the Custom and Border Patrol violating law and order. So Mayor Bass went on to say the Trump administration is the source of disorder in Los Angeles. And of course, like I said before, one person was detained, a man selling strawberries.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Now, Bass went on to say the man selling strawberries, again, did not pose a threat. Now, the federal agent who was in charge of that particular immigration raid outside in L.A. is shrugging off the timing. Border Patrol sector chief Greg Bovino suggested he did not know Newsom and others were inside the Japanese American National Museum. Let's take a listen to his comments. This is a location that we have conducted these roving patrol duties for the past two months. We've been here over two months. And as you can see today, we did make an apprehension just a few feet from where I'm standing.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Yes, again, that's Border Patrol sector chief Greg Bovino. He reportedly arrested that strawberry delivery man. The chairman of the museum told the L.A. Times, the timing of the raid was so precise that the agents jumped out of vans just feet. from him as he entered the event. So we will continue to watch what's happening in California regarding ice raids and also congressional redistricting, which I will get
Starting point is 00:08:21 into in the 7 o'clock hour. Just a quick weather update, I do want to share tropical storm. Aaron is on the verge of becoming a hurricane. The National Hurricane Center says the storm is about 570 miles east of the Caribbean Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour. If the winds reach
Starting point is 00:08:38 74 miles per hour, Aaron will officially become the Atlantic's season. first hurricane. Forecasters say Aaron is heading west towards the U.S., but it is expected to veer north and is posing no immediate threat to the to the east coast. But we will continue to watch the storm. The storm is expected to grow into a formidable category three hurricane over the weekend. So again, I'll continue to keep you guys posted on that. But you guys got to watch over the weekend for yourselves because, you know, we know, no more front page news on the weekends. But yeah, so that's your front page news for 6 a.m. Again, at 7 a.m. We'll get into
Starting point is 00:09:10 redistricting. We'll talk about. the president's meeting with Putin today and more. So stick around for more front page news at 7. All right. And everybody else, get it off your chest. 800-585105.1. If you need to vent, phone lines are wide open. Again, 800-58505-105-1. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:09:27 The Breakfast Club. It's a new day. This is your time to get it off your chest. Wait, wake up. Whether you're mad or blessed. It's time to get up and get something. Call up now. 800-585-105-10.
Starting point is 00:09:42 We want to hear from you on the Breakfast Club Hello, who's this? It's J.B. J.B., what's up? Get it off your chest. Just got a question, man. You got Chris Brown in New York City doing concerts and no interview.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Yeah, I don't think Chris did any interviews. I mean, he's touring. He's dancing for four hours. He's doing meet and greets. Then he's doing after parties. He got to sleep. What's the point of doing an interview of your show already sold out?
Starting point is 00:10:07 Yeah, like, how many kind of... Although people do it. Like, people still do it. Not really in this day, because while I'm going to sit down and get asked a whole bunch of questions, I probably don't want to get asked, but my show's already sold out. Like, why? Yeah, but it's certain people that do it. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:10:21 Like, Francis, Gary Owen, he came up here. All his shows sold out for the rest of the year. But he still came up here. Don't do it, Lauren. Don't do it, Lauren. I'm just saying, like, people do that. They still depressed. You got these other celebrities that go on tour.
Starting point is 00:10:36 They still depressed, even when the stuff is sold out. It's just that Chris Brown don't. really like doing interviews. Not that level. Beyonce ain't going to do it. Taylor Swift ain't going to do it. See, Breezy. That's a MetLife is a stadium, y'all. That's what? 80,000.
Starting point is 00:10:51 But how many Chris Browns do we have? Let's just be honest. That's my point. Right. And also, he ain't the person that's going to sit down and talk to people because of what people may ask him and pass things that people going to bring up all that. He definitely ain't about to sit down and care to that. I love for him because y'all play
Starting point is 00:11:09 all this home. So I just, I just want to know. Thanks. Y'all have a great day. Yeah, those days are over. Radio is just playing the music just because they want to. Ain't no give and take favors no more. He's been up here a couple times, though.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Yes, I've never seen him. But that's the thing about interviews, and that's why Wendy Williams always said. Wendy Williams used to always say, do not rely on interviews. People have to tune into the radio for you. Because how many times you're going to interview Chris Brown? How many times you're going to interview Rihanna?
Starting point is 00:11:36 We ain't never interviewed Rihanna. I ain't never interviewed, well, we interviewed JZ once. He ain't never interviewed Beyonce. Nope. And most of these shows never ever will, period. So people got to tune in for you. Hello, who's this?
Starting point is 00:11:47 Good morning, my breakfast club family. It's your boy, Lovey from the Bronx. Lovey for me. What up, Lovey? Respectfully, I want to say shout out to Barbie. She's body that beat. Oh, imaginary plays. Yeah, like, I said Barbie.
Starting point is 00:12:01 I said Barbie, too. You meant Barney. Barty, Barty, Biel. He said, buddy. But I want to say that. I know this is your man, Charlotte, but Pete, I can't have your boy. Pete Davis, he's spinning a block.
Starting point is 00:12:14 So I'm challenging him to a breakfast club court. We can take it to Instagram for a Great Sweat Band Challenge. It's only room for one big deal on the breakfast bag of. That's nasty, Love you know, that's nasty. That's nasty. And I'm, you know, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm
Starting point is 00:12:29 into that, but that was nasty, bro. A penis, a great sweatpan challenge is nasty. That's too far, Lovie. That's too, yeah, love you. Come on, man. Tell your boy, Pete, I'm outside. I'm around for. What are you going to do when you see him? What are you doing when you see him, Lovey? He's ready.
Starting point is 00:12:46 You're going to drop them, drugs? I do what I see him. I was going to let him know, like, respectfully, this is only room for one big V on the breakfast club. Goodbye, love. Don't insult me? Let me get. I'm seven inches, three, fourth, eight when it's warm. But John said that Lovey is 10 on the soft.
Starting point is 00:13:03 No, that's that. I don't know. That's what Lovey said that. Oh, no, no, no. You told me Pete was 10 on the soft. I ain't tell you that easy. That girl said, well, Kanye said he had a 10-inch penis. Lovey said, Lovey said his is like 16.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Damn. Get it off your chest. 8-0-8-5-40. I'm not playing with y'all. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. This is your time to get it off your chest.
Starting point is 00:13:34 800-585-105-1. We want to hear from you on the Breakfast Club. Hello, who's this? What's up, N-V? This is T-Chi-Z. Keisha, what's up? Good morning. Hey, this is Keisha from Loose Lips and Licker Podcast. What's your name, Big Head-Aid.

Starting point is 00:14:01 Oh, okay. What up? What's that? Just that. Right here, what's up, baby? How you doing? Hey, beautiful. Hey, girl.
Starting point is 00:14:08 We're Lauren at the little trade-air is Lauren. What's your air? She out of the country She'd be checking in a little bit She's out of the country? Yeah, she's out of the country She's still in the country She's in Puerto Rico

Starting point is 00:14:28 Now hold on, let me take to what I got to say All right Look y'all Shalaman you remember I came to a podcast event back in April I remember yes indeed And I said And Lauren brought some gifts up there
Starting point is 00:14:40 and then I gave Lauren some gifts for y'all. Lauren didn't give us nothing. My camera got lost in there and everything, and I got the camera back. But I'm checking until y'all got those packages. No, man. No, man. We didn't give us nothing.

Starting point is 00:15:27 I see the book Moise. I see the book Laced Thomb. Yeah, that's what she sent us. And she sent some actual thones for me. Yes, yes, you see that, if you throw down, you'll see that little stainless air water bottle. Yes, I can. in your bag.

I already know what I'm going to order to. I'm looking right at what I'm going to order. I'm going to order one of them toys. You already got the book.

Starting point is 00:17:18 Hey. In my hotel room looking at the ocean. Oh, talk, talk, what's up, girl? That lady that was just upset. Tell her, she gave me so much stuff, and I keep forgetting to mail it from Atlanta. It's literally sitting in my best friend's house. Oh, okay. Got you all, though. Well, we got the latest with Lauren coming up, what we're talking about? Yes, we're going to get into some things. So Tiana
Starting point is 00:17:39 Taylor and Iman Shumper, you know, there's been this back and forth about who violated the divorce terms, who didn't, their reports right now. But I got some clarity because it's not looking like the way it's being reported for Tiana Taylor. So we're going to talk about it. All right. We'll get into that next. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:17:55 The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ NG. Jess Alariah. Shalameen the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get to the latest with Lauren. Lauren becoming a straight fat. she gets them from somebody that knows somebody she gets to detail i'm the home girl that knows a little bit about everything
Starting point is 00:18:15 she'd be having the latest on this the latest the latest with lauraosa sometimes you have facts sometimes you have details sometimes she have a little bit everything well it's the latest on the breakfast club talk to me all righty all right now about tiana taylor and imamshumper so according to those reports and, you know, what I've actually been read from court documents. Tiana Taylor has been ordered to pay Iman Shumper $70,000. It's just covering legal fees. But here's the breakdown and to provide more clarity on what is happening.
Starting point is 00:18:49 So there has been a lot of back and forth about Tiana Taylor and Iman Shumper. There have been claims, you know, from Iman that Tiana Taylor has withheld the, you know, the children and, you know, the custody. There's been custody violations and things of that nature in court specifically for what this rule. was none of that stuff was addressed um well it was addressed the basically the court said that that didn't happen it there's not enough proof to show that tiana taylor uh violated anything when it comes to uh the children or anything custody related but what they did determine was that and it was based off of uh like procedures so when tiana taylor and iman shumper got their divorce agreement all that time ago we talked about what that agreement was um within the
Starting point is 00:19:32 agreement it was agreed upon that neither party was supposed to talk about about what the terms of that agreement was, but there were stories leaking around that time about, you know, Tiana got this, Tiana got that, Iman got this, Iman got that. So Tiana Taylor got on Instagram live to defend herself, to be fair, and to talk about what actually happened because things were spreading like crazy. That Instagram live, and I have the audio if you guys want to hear it, that Instagram live, a judge said, okay, because of this live, you were procedurally in a violation. So we're going to allow you to pay his attorney's fees. Now, all together, the judge looked at everything that Iman spent going back and forth about, you know, did he leak stuff to the press or did he not?
Starting point is 00:20:14 And a judge did determine just based off what was provided by Tiana's team, that there was not enough provided to say that Iman actually leaked information about the divorce to the blogs. But they basically said, okay, he's asking for all of this money for his attorney's fees, looking at who makes what? like we're looking at what tiana taylor makes we're looking at what he mine makes because of how much she makes and because she can afford to pay it we are going to award a certain amount for her to be able to pay which is that 70k originally though he had asked for a hundred and twenty one thousand dollars but they broke it down and they looked at they itemized each um each number and said which ones actually apply to this like case this actual uh not case this actual claim the claim of did you
Starting point is 00:21:00 leaked the information to the blogs or not and that's how they came up with the number but you know to be fair I think it's being reported right now as if Tiana Taylor completely you know did all these things and was found and wrong of all these things and the only thing that to be honest
Starting point is 00:21:16 with you the judge found here was that she got on live and discussed how she felt so not even how she felt but she clarified her side of things back in March somebody breaks this down to me in simple terms I don't know what the hell So basically Imam Want her to be able to pay
Starting point is 00:21:33 $70,000 because she has to pay Like she violated the terms Correct You know that she wasn't supposed to go online But he's the one that made She wanted the whole thing to be a secret But he went and submitted their names Like he he didn't want to leak the names right
Starting point is 00:21:47 You said they couldn't find evidence of him doing that though So they had some they weren't supposed to be discussing any of this And that was the agreement And so that's why somebody got to pay it The agreement was that nothing was supposed to be discussed However, what in the beginning of all of this, and this is not even in the conversation of the court, this is just in filing. So in the beginning of all of this, when TMZ first broke the story of Tiana Taylor and Iman Shepard's divorce, it was hard to even know who it was because it was listed with initials. And normally when celebrities do that, when that's done, normally it's because you don't want people in the business.
Starting point is 00:22:16 But there was something that was filed at one point where the names were used. And from what I remember and being there, it was listed with full names. it came from iman's side so that's how they were able to know what the divorce was but that's not what she was talking about tiana teller specifically was talking about when all of that stuff was leaking about remember there was a story's like oh tiana teller took iman for everything he has and she got the car she got the dish she wanted people to know yeah so she got online and said the businesses that they have is 50 50 yes and she leaving with what she came with and what she came with what she paid for herself because she works that's what let's take a listen to her her
Starting point is 00:22:54 Instagram live back from March. We can hear what she said. Before y'all even knew that we was ever getting a divorce, not too much on my best friend. We're still doing this. We're still doing that. This is my buddy. This is my da-da-da-da. I've done nothing but try to protect us. So the fact that you are okay with the world thinking that I took you for everything that you had, had the world thinking that I tried to get you locked up sitting here playing victim. Let me explain something to y'all about people. For people that saying, oh, well, what would I mind get out of leaking these rooms that make him look bad? Some people are okay with looking bad just as long as you look worse, okay? Y'all have to understand that.
Starting point is 00:23:34 Y'all have to understand that. Before this divorce, during this divorce, and after this divorce, I protected that man with all I had in me. And it really does seem like, like, it really does seem every time something come out in the press about her, like, you know, with her movies or her album or something like that, something comes out. Like he put something out there where it would damage her reputation or something that she's doing a week before her album drop. Yeah, that is. She was doing a rollout this week. A week before her album dropped.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Now this interview is about the drop. And then also, he was making skits about the divorce too. I didn't even know he did skits. He was making skits. I didn't know he made skits. He posted them online? Yes. So, but back to what I'm saying, it does seem like that.
Starting point is 00:24:20 But when they had that reality, show, he sat on the couch and even say it, jokingly, but he said it. The thing that gets under her skin, he likes to antagonize her with online drama. And he know that gets under her skin. Well, I know Tiana's losing her mind right now because she can't talk.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Didn't she just have a vocal surgery? Man, what? She's somewhere throwing up gang signs right now. She's texting somebody crazy. She's texting somebody dream. We might get a book on Twitter today. With them fingers, man. The New York fingers is going in. No, but I'm glad she can't because obviously, like,
Starting point is 00:24:52 What you mean you glad she can't? You don't want her to be able to defend herself, Lauren? She would find it again. Of course you wouldn't. That's why the judge, that's why she got to pay the money. I'm glad she can't because obviously it puts her, it's unfair that she can't defend herself sometimes. But the only reason I'm saying that is because according to their agreement, when they figured out what their divorce was going to be, nobody's supposed to talk. That's the only reason why she kind of got caught here.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Because other than that, the judge denied a lot of what came her way. What's really unfair, if you really think about it, the fact that we're able to, to see somebody's personal life and personal business and how much they have to spend, that shouldn't be public knowledge. The fact that they are a couple, right? Even though they're a celebrity, they are a couple that's their own marriage.
Starting point is 00:25:32 We shouldn't be able to see how much this one has to pay, how much this one gets in a divorce, how much, who gets to the car, who gets to get, like, that's their personal lives. And it should stay personal. And it pisses me off when people are able to touch people's personal lives and see where people live and see all this.
Starting point is 00:25:51 I agree with Jess, I agree with Jess. I agree with Jess. I do think it's very strange that every time Tiana got something going on, one of these negative stories come out. Of course. That is why. It's like, yo, you just, she's on a rollout. She's got the album coming out and then all of a sudden, boom.
Starting point is 00:26:06 One of her biggest movies ready come out, album come on seven days. There's something there. There's a there there there. They know it pushes her buttons. Come on. All you internet detectives and Twitter detectives, y'all need to put that one together. Right. There's a there there there.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Yeah. And wrapping up, I just want to say to, they mention in the docs, to be honest with you. They're like, she does have a lot going on. She got movies coming, three movies. She has a show coming out in the fall. And that's what they said, like, okay, look, she got all this going on. She can pay what she should be responsible to pay.
Starting point is 00:26:36 They deem she could and, yeah, so it's because of all the things she got going on, to your point. Hmm. No. That is the latest with Lauren. Tiana Taylor, hopefully you're healing well, you know, because she had surgery last week on a vocal cord. So hopefully she's healing well. And I'm sure this is just irritating her even more. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:26:53 All right. Now, when we come back, we got front-page news, and then Snoop from the Wire will be joining us. You remember Snoop, right? She also's on BETT Plus's American Gangsta Trap Queen's episode premiered July 10th. We're going to talk about that as well. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:27:07 The Breakfast Club. Your mornings will never be the same. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Jess Hilary, Shalameen the Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get back in some front-page news. What's up, Morgan?
Starting point is 00:27:19 All right, let's do it. So there are a lot of unknown surrounding President Trump's summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska today. Now, Trump was asked by Fox News Radio about a joint press conference that is supposed to happen and was announced by the White House with Putin after the meeting. And they seemed unsure what will actually happen. Now, President Trump said there are two scenarios that could happen today. Let's take a listen to what those could be. If it's a bad meeting, I'm not calling anybody. I'm going home.
Starting point is 00:27:46 But if it's a good meeting, I'm going to call President Zelensky. and the European leaders, who, as you know, have a very good relationship with. So over the past few days, Trump and the White House have lowered expectations about an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine following the summit. Trump says he'll know right away if Putin is serious about ending the war
Starting point is 00:28:02 when the two leaders meet. Now, the president has also floated the idea of a second meeting with Ukraine, Zelenskyy, and Putin, if all goes well, Trump is meeting with Putin at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska today at 3.30 p.m. I just don't understand how you're not having both sides. at the table when you're having this meeting.
Starting point is 00:28:21 Is Donald Trump Zelensky's agent? Is he Zelensky's manager? Is he Ukraine's lawyer? Like, you cannot represent me if I'm not there. Makes no sense. A mediator, you know, but you got to have both sides to be a mediator. Yeah. If you're doing mediation, you got to have both sides at the table.
Starting point is 00:28:37 I've never heard of no one side of mediation. And you can't speak for me. I'm not going to let Trump speak for me. It sounds crazy. I think he's trying to definitely move this along and, you know, be the voice of reason. You can't be the voice of reason when you're negotiating and mediating something with just one side.
Starting point is 00:28:53 I'm going to take this message back to this person and take this message back over here to this country and see what we can do. I guess that's where they're at with it right now. It's great things. It's true, though. You can mess up somebody's words like that. That's true. You ain't lying. And they don't even speak English.
Starting point is 00:29:08 I definitely don't know if he said that or not. Right. Damn, yo. All right, y'all. All right, y'all, bringing things home domestically. California Governor Gavin Newsom is officially calling for a special election in an effort to redraw state congressional district maps. Newsom says unlike what's happening in Texas, California is working through a temporary transparent process of redistricting. The action is a counter move to Texas Republicans attempting to redraw congressional districts that could add as many as five Republican seats in Congress.
Starting point is 00:29:37 Let's hear more from California Governor Gavin Newsom on these efforts. Today is Liberation Day in the state of California. And as Senator should have said, As Senator Schiff said, Donald Trump, you have poked the bear, and we were punched back. We can't stand back and watch this democracy disappear district by district all across this country, not just in Texas, but in Missouri, where J.D. Vance went just a week ago in Indiana, in places like Ohio, in places like Florida, we need to stand up. Of course, the congressional redistricting efforts have been on hold in Texas since state Democratic. left the state blocking the legislature's ability to achieve a quorum and vote on the issue. Unless Texas Republicans drop their redistricting efforts, California will hold a special election on November 4th to put new maps before voters to increase Democratic representation and Congress offsetting Texas's actions.
Starting point is 00:30:33 Now Newsom said he needs two-thirds of the legislature vote is scheduled for next week. Now, meanwhile, Texas Republican, I believe this is actually California Republican Congressman, Kevin Kylie says no states should be gerrymandering, adding that manipulating congressional boundaries to favor one party is a plague on democracy. Let's take a listen to Representative Kylie. Having mid-decade redistricting this year cascade across the country and some sort of domino effect will be a huge distraction and a very unhealthy thing for representative government. I believe this is an opportunity for us all to take a deep breath, to say enough is enough
Starting point is 00:31:11 to say this is not a road that we want to continue to go down. as a country. So that California Congressman, Kevin Kiley, he's introducing a bill to prohibit mid-decade redistricting in all 50 states. And yesterday in a virtual meeting, Obama told the Texas lawmakers that their actions were inspiring others. Obama said, we can't let systemic assault, let a systemic assault on a democracy just happen. And because of your courage, what you've seen in is California responding and other states
Starting point is 00:31:42 looking at what they can do to offset. mid-decade gerrymandering. Of course, Texas Representative Gene Wu said Obama's endorsement was proof that they have the support of the Democrats at all and every level. Have you ever looked at a piece of abstract art or music or poetry and thought, that's just a bunch of pretentious nonsense? Well, that's exactly what two bored Australian soldiers set out to prove during World War II. When they pulled off what was either a bold literary hoax or a grand poetic experiment,
Starting point is 00:32:12 publishing over a dozen intentionally bad but highly acclaimed works of expressionist poetry under the name Earn Malley in an incident that caused a media firestorm and even a criminal trial. The Earn Malley episode made fools of believers and critics alike and still fascinates poetry lovers to this day. And we got Snoop coming up next, right? That's right. Yeah, Snoop's going to be joining us a little bit. You know, Snoop from the Y. Also, she has a new show. Well, she also is on the show, American gangster trap queens and premier July 10th.
Starting point is 00:36:49 They talk about Snoop. And we're going to talk to her next. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's the Jenny Bunn. The Jens hilarious. Shalameen the Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Lawlerosa is here as well.
Starting point is 00:37:04 And we got a special guest in the building. Yes, indeed. We got Snoop in the building. What up, Snoop? Yeah, yeah. Thanks, man. Felicia Snook here. What up?
Starting point is 00:37:12 Of course, the new season of American gangster trap, Queens is out right now. But how are you doing, Snoop? We didn't see you in a long time. We ain't seen in a minute. First of all, Snoop ran in here. So if you see her breathing hard, don't be on the internet. Talking about Snoop in there on grounds and I think she ran. It's New York traffic, man.
Starting point is 00:37:28 I had to get out of the traffic. It's the hauling, man. All right. So you got it just ran. I ain't lying. I didn't want to hear your mouth. Why are you feeling? How are you feeling, Snoop?
Starting point is 00:37:39 I'm feeling blessed black and highly favored. There you go. There you go. I like it. What's your? Good, man. That's all you're giving you a minute. We're giving you a minute.
Starting point is 00:37:49 We used to be out with me in the clubs all the time. Every night, Steve used to be out with me. I ain't lying. That's, that thing cleared up now. I got older, man. I only get three drinks and it's over. This is a rap? It looked like I probably had a whole bottle and only had two shots.
Starting point is 00:38:06 I know you're here to talk about American gangster Trap Queen, but I have to ask you about the wire because it's been celebrating 23 years of the wire. That's been that long? 23 years? Yeah. And, you know, earlier this year, we had Trey Cheney and who else was up here?
Starting point is 00:38:22 A bunch of the brothers from the Yen was up here. Andy Zubber was up here. What did DeWire mean to you? 23 of the Y'I. The Yen meant everything because that's where I came from. That's where I started from. You know, I didn't know that I knew how to act or, I mean, just to be in this entertainment business period.
Starting point is 00:38:38 So, you know, the wire just means everything from, you know. But for those that don't know, how did you get the role in the wire? Break that down on how they chose you, your character and all that. Yeah, because that's a couple of stars that had auditioned, but they gave it to you. No, no, that wasn't the case. Michael Kent Williams, they didn't ever have a part for me. So that's why you see Felicia Snoop Pearson on there. They kept my name and everything, even my nickname.
Starting point is 00:39:05 the same you know what I'm saying so it's like uh you know I met Michael K. Williams called blessed to did I miss you I love you bro I met him in Club 1 remember Club 1 and he kept looking at me like I was you know what I mean like I did something
Starting point is 00:39:21 to him so I'd never watch the wire while everybody was watching the wire I was outside you know me hustling so I sing him he kept looking at me you know looks could be deceiving He got a scar on his face, looking crazy.
Starting point is 00:39:37 So I was like, man, what's the, what's going on? Yeah, I'm ready to go lay for yo outside. And my boy was like, nah, man, that's Omar, the gay person from out of the wire. I was like, oh, where? So Mike came over there to me, and he was like, man, you're a boy or girl. And I was like, man, listen, I don't play like that. I love, you know what? Because I say, I love p, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:40:08 You got to say, because you can't say puh. Yeah, yeah. Can you build your, gay joke? But, yeah, man, I told him, but I don't play that. Don't he's like, nah, nah, nah, nah. Like, I love your swag. I love everything about you. Yeah, man, give me your phone number.
Starting point is 00:40:27 And I'm looking at him like, what? Phone number. Like, come on, man. But, you know, I gave it to him, and the rest was history. I went like a block away the way they were shooting at because I was living with my grandmother you know what I'm saying at the time
Starting point is 00:40:42 because me and my female friend was beefing you know what I'm saying so he was a block away I was on Oliver and Morph No Lord bits kicked you out Yeah yeah she kicked me straight out I was in Oliver and Morph
Starting point is 00:40:54 he was on Morphe and Landvel so that's a block away I ran up there and the rest was history they you know what I start Yeah they said They love how to talk you know. See, my vocabulary wasn't like this at first.
Starting point is 00:41:08 Everything was, yeah, I mean. You know what I'm saying? I ain't, man. I was like, oh, my God, I had to clean everything up. So, you know, yeah. And you was, you was, like, in the street from what I, from what I heard back in the day, you used to sell heroin. Yes. So you was really in the speech. So it kind of got typecasted a little bit.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Yes, yes, most definitely. Most definitely. That's why I did the Spike Lee joint because I didn't want to be typecast. Spike High led me like, yo, man, come on. Him and Mike and my guard bubba like come on man I played a prostitute damn
Starting point is 00:41:39 how did the streets accept you at that point though did they be like all right Snoop go do your thing man you don't need to be out here with us no way and when did you realize you didn't have to do that when did you quit? I quit when I was on a wire I mean I quit when my trap phone kept ringing and then
Starting point is 00:41:58 Ed Burns David Simon and you know Nina was like yo like come on stop You know what I mean? Like, we want you. You is amazing. See, people, you don't see yourself what your worth is because it's you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:12 Yeah, I mean? And then once they see, like the outside person see you and they let you know, you probably think they hate in or, I mean, whatever. But, you know, them people said that I was a star, man. I believed them. And I just stopped. I promise you, I just stopped. But, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:42:29 The last time when I got, you know, I mean, incarcerated, I was around people trying to keep it real. You know what I wasn't selling no drugs. I was just there. You know me? So, you know, you're working on something else with Abe Berns, too, aren't you? Yes, my life story, man. My life story, yeah, it's a series, yeah, me, we, uh, and develop, um, in development right now, you know what I'm saying, looking for the highs bitter, still on the table, you know what I mean? But it's a series. It's about my life story, man. It's trials and tripulations that I went through. It ain't nothing like, uh, it ain't going to look like the But it is because I'm from Baltimore
Starting point is 00:43:06 You can't get that about me I mean I love my city You know what I mean So it's like It's a series man And it starts with like your childhood Yes Yes yes yes
Starting point is 00:43:17 When I was When I was first born You know what I died three times Addicted to crack Because my mother Was you know what I'm getting high You know I'm adopted
Starting point is 00:43:28 Went to jail I mean Well prison at the age of 14 and a half You know for first to remurder, nothing that I, you know, I mean, proud of or nothing, but it's my life. I can't change it, so I have to make changes when I get older just right now, you know mean? So I can make the right decisions.
Starting point is 00:43:46 And you've lived through experiences that most people only see on shows like The Wire. How do you think your early life shaped the way you approach, like, you're acting in your storytellers? For the gangster shit, it's like, bad is in me. You know what I mean? It's like, you know, but the other actor, like, uh, like my female part of, like, my versatility. You know, I'm still working, man.
Starting point is 00:44:12 I know I'm not working, uh, walking hills now. Okay. Six inches. Oh, yeah. Okay. So Tammy and Ikees taught me how to do that. Now, break down the prostitution. Tammy and Ikea.
Starting point is 00:44:27 Yeah, Ikeed. God, that's my god sister. Tammy Rivera. That's, uh. Tammy Rivera. I thought you made. I thought it was. Some girl named Tammy, you met in Ikea.
Starting point is 00:44:36 Nah, you're not. This is a kid. This is a kid in here for nothing. So when they approach you to do the prostitute role. Yeah. Look at you. Was you all the way in that person? So break that down.
Starting point is 00:44:50 I don't know with that phone closed. Look at you. We want you to play a prostitute. Yo, so Mike U.K. Will. Just God, bless the dead. I love you, bro. He hit me. It was like, Spike was you for a role.
Starting point is 00:45:01 And I was hyped. Like, Spike. Oh. Yes, sir. What's up? Legend. I can. So, once I got around Spike,
Starting point is 00:45:12 Spike let me know what it was. And I was looking at Spike. Like, is you serious? But Spike helped me, and another thing, Spike helped me, man. Spike took me to, what was that, Eldos, that's what it's called? Aldo's, the shoe store.
Starting point is 00:45:28 The shoe store. And it helped me try to walk in heels, man. Spike is, Spike, man. Spike took this time with me. Pick my hair out, my dress. You know what I'm saying? No talk like this. And I was like, ah, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:45:44 Yeah, you know, like, me, Spike. I love Spike, man. We're still kicking in with Snoop. Charlemagne? And you talked about your life after prison. What was the single hardest moment in that journey that you were like? What kept you moving forward? I had to changing your life after coming out of thing.
Starting point is 00:45:58 When I first came home before the wire, I had, what, three jobs. I had working for four, making bumpers, and then, well, now I had two jobs. Making four bumpers. Then I went to the book factory. And then once some people was like, yo, you know what, me, no, we're fine, you're saying, because you have a criminal background.
Starting point is 00:46:20 I'm like, yo, what the fuck? I'm going to throw a book at somebody and kill them. Like, what you're talking about? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? And right there, I was like, man, forget that. So I took my last little check, and I went and got me some yams. You want to know what that is?
Starting point is 00:46:36 Yeah. Yeah, Grams. That's great, but you blessed, though, man, because so many people end up in that situation and they don't get a second chance to throw these little kids away. Yeah, but at the same time, man, like, the last time when I just got incarcerated, like, a lot of people turned their back on me, man. That shit heard it. Because it was like, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:46:56 Like, yeah, everybody knows that I came from the streets, but they still were thinking that I'm in the streets. Nah, I'm sitting here trying to keep it real. You know what I'm saying? I'm trying to keep it real. And people ain't trying to keep it real with me. You know what I mean? But they just hid for the glands and the glitter.
Starting point is 00:47:12 You know what I mean? But when I got in trouble the last time, I was little with Mike. Mike moved. And then, like, I was in the Bronx, 176 in McCone's and my mom's, uh, mother living room on a blowup bed for a year and a half. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:47:28 And it's how bad you wanted. I wanted it bad. I ain't want to sell drugs because I wasn't selling selling drugs. That shit hurting me, man. You know what I'm saying? And people was trying to sit there. Oh, you did this? I ain't did a motherfuck thing.
Starting point is 00:47:41 But there, the wire on the wire, that's their headlines. So they can make you, you know what I mean, grab you into the headlights. You know what I'm saying? It was like, I was like, oh, oh, that's how you're going to play. Yeah, man, that's why I stopped doing interviews. Because every time it's like, yo, I say some people will go ahead and misconstrue what I got to say. You understand what I'm saying? Or make headlines what they want to.
Starting point is 00:48:04 Nah, man, I ain't going for that, man. Like, real talk. Like, one time I took a reporter out, I ain't going to say those days. Like, I thought she was cool. I'm paying the tab and all that. You know what I'm saying? We sit there at most. Eating, y'all I'm chilling.
Starting point is 00:48:18 Eat crab legs, all types of shit. He's a hook up. And this lady sit here and just talk real greasy about me. I was like, dang. Oh, after that? Yes. In the pay, like, Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:31 Was y'all out in an interview? Yes. No, we was chilling having a conversation, like, that means, like us. Yeah. And she's a reporter. And she went and just wrote that. I was like, man, oh, went to my victim family house, all types of stuff. And you could have just told me that.
Starting point is 00:48:49 Like, you could have warned me, you know, but we was Kiki and a Kaka, oh, girl, get another drink. You are, you know what I'm saying? That type, we was cool. That ain't. You were the three best friends. And that's when I knew right there, I was like, man, these people don't love nobody. They're just doing their jobs. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:49:07 So, you know, it's no hard feelings, but I had to learn. You live and you learn. And once I was coming from the street, so I didn't know how the industry played. Now I know. How is that now, though? Like, but... I don't take nothing to her. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:49:21 Do you say something crazy about me? I'm fucking around, spoke a blunt and laugh at you. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. But, you know, nothing. I don't take nothing to the heart. no more. What's the biggest misconception about Snoop, you think? That Snoot was in the streets.
Starting point is 00:49:36 When I left the streets, I was on the wire. You know, and that was true spill. It was just, you know, like, my fare can't turn my back on my family friends. You know what I mean? Like, come on, man, that's where I come from. These four corners, with Oliver and Morphette, that's where I come from. You know, so it's like, like, how can you all, I mean, let me, give me a chance to grow. Give me a chance to figure it out
Starting point is 00:50:00 It was just coming so fast I was like, oh shit So do you feel like you're rolling in a while You hurt or help? No, I think it helped And I think I did I mean, I take full responsibility For everything that I probably even got in trouble for
Starting point is 00:50:16 Because I, like people When I first got all, people's like, yo, go here to move to L.A. I'm like, man, I ain't Hollywood, I'm hollyhood And I'm trying to save my neighborhood and save my city and I could I mean help from from afar
Starting point is 00:50:34 what's that balance like now for you knowing that like okay you help him but from afar you got things you need to protect but you still be connected to your people yeah like right now I always do me and Miss Elvina shout out to Miss Elvina I love you baby Miss Elvina she always
Starting point is 00:50:51 helped me with shoe hoops not guns that I do in the city of Baltimore for my city back school drive I come out my pocket. Ms. Alvinna keeps saying I need sponsors. But, you know, I come out with my pocket because people don't know. I'm in the hood. I always see what we need.
Starting point is 00:51:08 You know what I'm saying? So it's like, yeah, me, I just come out of my pocket and do it myself. So, and where that was you said? No, I'm just like that. You know, the balance. You were talking about trying to figure out the balance and, like, growing in it. My balance is now that I help from afar. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:51:25 I go home. You know what I always go home. I'm always home. But, I mean, I just, from a fall, man, I just, I got a, I got a hell from a fall. Because I know too many people in the city, man. I can shake somebody hand. I'm caught up in a fucking diamond. You know, like, that's just be stupid.
Starting point is 00:51:43 It's just crazy, though, because your town where you from is what gives you your balance. To me, it's when you move out to them places like L.A. is when you lose your stuff. When you got your boots on the ground still in your city, that's when you... But at the same time, when you know your city and you're from there, and you, In the streets, I ain't even talk about the county or the suburbs. When you end the city, you know what it is. So you ain't got to stay right there to help. You know, I want to ask you, you know, I know you and Michael Kay was so close.
Starting point is 00:52:09 Yes. So how did his death affect you? Man, it hurt me so bad. I got the phone call from Jamie Hector. At first I didn't know what he was talking about. I'm something kind of like a psychic because I felt something. But I thought it was about me, you know, and man
Starting point is 00:52:28 we all have our our damis our vices you know what I mean some is loud some is quiet you know and Mike's was in between because he was getting himself together he had stopped getting
Starting point is 00:52:46 high and you know I don't know I had just talked to him a week before you know and It hurt me, man It heard of me, man It heard of me
Starting point is 00:52:59 It heard of me Like, because we had so many plans And, you know That's how I got my story If you would have never said I'm too, you know, y'all When he never seen, I heard no snoot You know what I probably would have been
Starting point is 00:53:12 Ditto in jail Did you ever ask him? Did you ever say to you, him What did God say to you In the club that night when you were staring at me? Like, what did you see at me? Did you ever ask him that? He just said he's seen
Starting point is 00:53:23 an angel He always called me his angel He always called me His big brother His big brother His big brother And you know That's going to be a whole other segment
Starting point is 00:53:42 Man Because I f***ing around getting Crying Type Snoopin'all I don't care It's my brother No la And that's another thing too
Starting point is 00:53:51 People Us black people If you got to show your emotion you know what I mean and if you cry and let out some of that frustration I promise you or just go ahead and pray
Starting point is 00:54:03 to God and cry you ain't got to tell your friends family nothing just let out some of their emotion I promise you some of the killing and some of that hurt in this world
Starting point is 00:54:14 is going to stop what's your religious background like you seem like you talk a lot about like faith in yes because that's all I know is God you know I mean that's it that's it and that's all man
Starting point is 00:54:24 like I said I died three times, you know what I mean, been shot at, like, 80 times. Like, you know what I, like, yeah, man, it's just, that's all I do, that's all I know is God. I believe in God. I believe in angels. I believe in, I believe in hell on earth. I believe that we, this is hell. Once everybody closed their eyes, because everybody got a death wish.
Starting point is 00:54:48 Amen, I mean, the death date. So, I mean, once you close your eyes, that's heaven on earth. I heard the guy that they OD'd over there on Pennsylvania Avenue in Baltimore for the drugs. The man said that he was mad and shit that they brought him back. Yeah. Because he was so peaceful. You know what I'm saying? So, you know, I think it is.
Starting point is 00:55:11 I think it is Hall on Earth. We're still kicking in with Snoop. Jess. So you're here for the new season of American Gangs of the Trap Queen? Yeah, American Gangs the Trap Queens. And that's narrated by. The bread. Yeah, the bread.
Starting point is 00:55:24 Do you see her on it, or does she... No, I ain't see the bread on that. She just did it when they called her. So we all had our own separate sessions. Okay. Cool. You like working on it? Yeah, it was one episode.
Starting point is 00:55:41 I just, the reason why I did it, let me clear this up on the Breakfast Club. You know, I love all you track queens. I love y'all there, you know. But BT, when they reached out to me to do track cranes, I said, nah. You know what I mean? Because y'all don't have the money that I want. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:56:00 And BT said, hold up, Snur. We got you. What you're looking for? So I was the highest ever, ever paying track quaint. You know what I'm saying? It's a bar sitting right here. And I did that episode so I could let the kids know what I've been through, my trials and trip relations.
Starting point is 00:56:18 You know what I mean? Because I ain't been around. I mean, I've been around. I'm around, but I'm not around. You know what I'm saying? But I just let the kids know that, you know what I'm in there? You see what I meant through? Man, somebody would have to chop that fucking heat off.
Starting point is 00:56:31 You know what I'm? Ficking with my life. They would have been killed theirself. But, you know what I did that so I just let you all know, like, it's still hope. It's still faith. It's still, you know what I mean? It's still life out here. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:56:45 It's still everything, man. Just keep going. Like, and just to let them know. I'm saying it over and over again just to let them know that trials or trip relations that you go through don't make you or break you
Starting point is 00:56:59 Is it ever hard for you Like going and like just re-counting like different things you've been through And your story and talking to different things That you already got there Some things and some things in the script You all gonna be like yo Yes
Starting point is 00:57:11 Yes I have a series Well I have a series So yeah I mean My life is too much to put in and cram up in one movie. You know what I mean? So, you know, you want to act a joke, Sheldman, I'm giving out jobs.
Starting point is 00:57:30 So get at me, Sean. And then, all right, so is that what made you want to do your life story yourself? Yes. You know, and the track queens? Yeah, no, I had told them, like, yeah, I mean, like, yo, if I do the track queens, this is how I want it, you know what I'm saying? And just to let people know, you know what I've been at, what I've been up to, and here you go.
Starting point is 00:57:50 You know, like... I just want you to know just don't like that you ask me before you ask her. What? What? No, Jess know what guy she got.
Starting point is 00:57:56 She's from home. What's your answer? I mean, at all. First of all, you know my baby mother want to know. You know my baby mother on a little before I baby fall.
Starting point is 00:58:04 I remember when we were at the roof picnic and you jumped on stage for you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I love shit. So, you go. Stop playing.
Starting point is 00:58:09 Yeah. Was it tougher to navigate the streets to Hollywood? Hollywood. I had to learn it because I ain't know nothing about it. You know what I'm saying? The streets, I don't know everything about it.
Starting point is 00:58:21 You know what I'm saying? But Hollywood, nah. And people, like, for our veterans out there, like, you see a person coming into this industry. Please give them, like, some type of advice. You know what I mean? Please let them know, like, the dudes and don'ts. Because I just came in here first and went crazy. You know, Mike, he was doing what he's doing.
Starting point is 00:58:45 God, damn. Head first and went. crazy? Oh, pause. No ditty. I don't know. Pause. I mean, I got to, that's not about that pause. But just get them advice, man. Like, just, I mean, words of encouragement, man, just to let them know,
Starting point is 00:59:04 like, yeah, I mean, the dudes and don'ts and this . You know what I mean? So, you know, that's it. That's why you had Mike, though. Man, Mike was getting high, man. Sighting up. My brother was getting high, man. My brother, listen, that's why I said when I get my series, you're going to see it, man.
Starting point is 00:59:25 My brother, Mike, I love him to death, but you would have never know it. My brother was high as fat shows, ass on the wire, but you never knew it, period. The best thing on that, bitch. That's why I was so real, so authentic. Yeah, me, yeah. Can't wait until my brother's story come, man. I'm sorry me, y'all. I show the man to Henry.
Starting point is 00:59:57 It's right. I can't with studio. I cannot wish this morning. No, that's not this morning. No, that's not this. My goodness. No. She over here telling herself, Joe.
Starting point is 01:00:11 She said Amy and Charleney, they're real love with me. Like, what? No, no American gay to the trap. To the trap queen Now, if you don't know what trap queens They break down Each episode is a woman Who is out there hustling and getting to it
Starting point is 01:00:27 And this episode is about Snoop Yeah, first one, episode one, season four Hey, first episode Yes, sir When you look, my last question When you look back at your life does far, Snoop Is there anything you would change? Like, do you have any regrets?
Starting point is 01:00:40 In 95, when I went to prison For the murder charge You know, because Because that broke her family heart, broke my family heart, you know, especially my grandmother. That's why I turned myself in because of mama, you know, mama's like, man, they're going to kill you, girl. They're going to kill you. You 14 fucking robbed you. So, you know, I think, yeah, most definitely.
Starting point is 01:01:13 Is anything you done to try to reconcile that situation with the family? Yes, I try to reach out. Well, I seen her mother when I was in prison. You know, she was talking smack and stuff like that. And when I got up on it, because, you know, people always talk smack when you ain't around. And then once I got up born her, you know, I told, I said, man, wow. When I got up on her, I told I said, man, I know you're mad at me and I know you hurt. I know you will never forgive me, but just pray, you know.
Starting point is 01:01:49 And I'm asking God to forgive me, you know, so it ain't nothing me or you can do to bring her back, you know. I'm so sorry. Does she accept the apology? She gave me a hug, but she told me flat out, I ain't going to never forgive you. I can't do nothing but to accept that. Yeah. You know, like, you know, I did something to hurt you. You know, I take my responsibility.
Starting point is 01:02:11 And that's a lot of things. I mean, a lot of times a lot of people don't take their responsibility. You know what I mean? I take my no debt. You say that you...
Starting point is 01:02:21 You said that you digger out. You said that you regret, you know, going to jail. But I think that probably definitely is the reason why you still here. You know,
Starting point is 01:02:31 that could have saved your life because, like you said, my mama told you, yo, they're going to kill you. You're saying, you could have got killed out there if you just
Starting point is 01:02:38 kept running or whatever because all that shit you catch up you know with you. So I think the best thing was you turning yourself in, you know what I mean? But you regret taking the life.
Starting point is 01:02:47 Yeah, I regret taking the life. Yeah. Yeah, most definitely. Well, Snoop, we appreciate you for joining us. I swear you've been up here before. But if you said, you've been up here before, man. Yeah, but listen, soon as, uh, soon as, uh, I start, um, filming, I'm coming back up. Hells, yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:06 I got to. I remember you, you was on your body when you was up here. Yes. That's what I remember. That wasn't me. Y'all got me best up. I know what I was another stud. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:03:16 I got the d-o-s. Like Snoop. It's Snoopy. It's the breakfast club. Good morning. Let's get to the latest with Lauren. Lauren becoming a straight fat. Tell her.
Starting point is 01:03:31 She gets them from somebody that knows somebody. She gets the details. I'm a home girl that knows a little bit about everything. She'd be having the latest on this. She'd be having the latest on this. The latest with Lauren La Rosa. Sometimes you have facts, sometimes you have details, sometimes you have a little bit of everything. Well, it's the ladies.
Starting point is 01:03:47 On the breakfast club. Talk to me. So Diddy is seeing another win in court. So on the civil side, because you guys remember, there's all these civil cases that still have to be dealt with with different claims. In 1920, a magazine article announced something incredible. Two young girls had photographed real fairies. But even more extraordinary than the magazine article's claims. was the identity of the man who wrote the article, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the man who wrote
Starting point is 01:04:20 Sherlock Holmes. Yes, the man who invented literature's most brilliant detective was fooled by two girls into thinking fairies were real. How did they do it? And why does it seem like so many smart people keep falling for outlandish tricks? These are the questions we explore in hoax, a new podcast from me, Dana Schwartz, the host of Noble Blood. And me, Lizzie Logan, every episode will explore one of the most audacious and ambitious tricks in history from the fake Shakespeare's to balloon boys

Starting point is 01:08:00 Well, there was one case filed by a woman named Sarah. Sarah Rivers, who was formerly on Making the Band, had filed a lawsuit back in, February and in the lawsuit she claimed that Diddy, you know, during the scene she cited the scene where Diddy made people from making the band to walk for the cheesecake and her and the rest of the band
Starting point is 01:08:22 had to walk so, you know, I don't know the story, had to walk to get the cheesecake from juniors or whatever. So she said and she sued for that she basically the workplace environment was she sued over the workplace environment, forced labor she said she accused Diddy of sexual harassment
Starting point is 01:08:38 false imprisonment, racketeering, and assault. So these claims were just dismissed. According to a judge, they were dismissed. Now, there is still one up in air that they will be determining, but they were dismissed with prejudice, meaning that they can't be filed again. And I mean, that's a huge one on the civil side, because I think when all the civil stuff and the criminal stuff was happening together, a lot of what was, people were compounding the two, but I think now because on the criminal side, a lot of things had been, didn't go forward in court.
Starting point is 01:09:07 doing the civil side a lot of things are starting to fall apart as well too I think a lot of the civil stuff helped Diddy in criminal court because some of the civil stuff sounds are so crazy and so insane if you a juror that's just out and about in the street you're like I don't know I don't know about that
Starting point is 01:09:23 one yeah I mean and the claims on the civil side were just as you know they sound like a movie the same way it did on a criminal side like for instance Sarah talked about during her time under making the band and she was forced to sleep in like an open bay
Starting point is 01:09:38 or like an open room with four other males despite being married at the time. She also claimed and alleged that she was threatened that if she didn't comply with whatever terms they gave her, like where she had to sleep and the different things that she alleged were happening to her, that same thing, a lot of the women on the criminal side were saying that their careers or like, you know,
Starting point is 01:09:56 their livelihoods would be threatened. She also alleged that Diddy acted maliciously and recklessly with her career, publicly dismantling the group and pocketing most of the money from the show. and she said that when it comes to the sexual harassment, she said that he sexually harassed and assaulted her, claiming that he once,
Starting point is 01:10:14 Diddy once backed her into a corner and blocks her from moving while he put, he rubbed his hands over her breasts. So a judge has decided not to move forward with this lawsuit at all. And this is the same. So the lawyer in this lawsuit is a woman named Ariel Mitchell. I saw reports that Diddy is on this $100 million defamation lawsuit. That's the same defamation lawsuit he filed a while back. He just up the amount of money.
Starting point is 01:10:36 and it's the same attorney. He's suing Ariel Mitchell and a man named Courtney because they went on News Nation and made claims about having videos from a freakoff that they haven't provided yet. So he's trying to spend the block now. Did he's trying to spend the block now and write whatever he thinks has been wrong done to him? Okay. In other news, speaking of, I did want to mention this because even though this story broke last week, we reported on Giovante, Tank Davis, and the domestic violence claims between him
Starting point is 01:11:04 and one of his former girlfriends and mother of his children, that case was actually dropped. They decided not to move forward with the case because the victim in the case or the alleged victim in the case was declining, is declining to prosecute her claims, and
Starting point is 01:11:20 this was released from the state attorney handling the prosecution. So that's not going to go forward as well. I just felt like I wanted to make sure I updated everybody there as well too. Thank you. You're welcome. And lastly, now Charlemagne, I know we were talking yesterday about that Hollywood
Starting point is 01:11:36 reporters top podcasting list for the most powerful players and podcasting in 2025. And you made the list, congratulations on that. Nice. Now, the reason why I brought that up is because when I brought up Taylor Swift the other day in the room and I told you
Starting point is 01:11:52 she was going to be doing the new heights show with her boo, Travis Kelsey, y'all was like, you don't even like Taylor Swift. Teller Swift in that podcast right now, they are at 10 million views in 16 or less hours and is now the top episode of the podcast. She beat out an episode with
Starting point is 01:12:08 Patrick Mahomes. She beat out an episode. Huge, right? None of that is surprising, but what that got to do is you not even being able to name three Taylor Swift songs, even though you like Taylor Swift so damn much. This is the thing with me. I like to see how people maneuver in business. I'm the same way with Beyonce. Like, I'm not
Starting point is 01:12:26 die hard Beyonce fan, but the way that Beyonce moves in business, I'll be like, yo, that's fire. Taylor Swift is so good at what she does. She knew sitting next to her boyfriend talking about stuff that the people want to know because she doesn't really give you too much. She gave you just enough was going to do exactly what it did. And she talked about everything. They went from her master recordings to, you know, her dad recently went through some medical stuff.
Starting point is 01:12:47 Like she got very candid. And they were just being cute. Yo, you know, it was so smart. So crazy. Lauren Gold Salomey, congratulations for being on the list. Now, the reason I even mention that is because Taylor Swift. Because of the white people. Because of the white people.
Starting point is 01:13:00 Mind you, it's only three black people on that. whole list is 44 people. I think it's me, Joe Button, and the Obama's, Michelle and her brother. So that's Ford. Don't try minimize us. Well, it's one show. Michelle and her brother is one show. Michelle and her brother's one show.
Starting point is 01:13:14 And then they had me as an executive in the Black Effect. So you bought that up just to big up the white people. They didn't even do a full congratulations. I brought that up to talk about the industry of podcasting. And this is why Donald Trump called me a racist sleeve bag. But I'm just pointing out the obvious, you know, amplification, okay, of Caucasian. at the expense of black people. You love a little mayonnaise, too.
Starting point is 01:13:36 I know you to watch the podcast. You know it's even more crazy. What? What is Michelle's brother's name? Craig. Craig. Craig is his name Craig for real? No, I'm going to be honest with you.
Starting point is 01:13:46 He is Michelle's brother. Okay, we got to do him like Ray J. for a while. Remember for a while? Ray J was always Brandy's brother. We got to give Craig at least two years before we start calling him Craig. That's Michelle Obama's brother. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 01:13:59 All right. We can call him mob for short. And that's, young mob. What up, Mom? Michelle and Mama. You're a clown, you know. Y'all, you're talking about me, but little and black people. That's a whole grown man.
Starting point is 01:14:11 You're talking about that's just Michelle, brother. Brotherball, hush. Well. Wait, Envy, hold on. Yes, yes, yes. I wanted to say, too, I saw you did Pix 11. You talked about being smart maneuvering that. Hey.
Starting point is 01:14:21 You did Pix 11. And the lady said, when Envi walked on, ooh, you're actually handsome in person. You heard of you. I took that foul, too. I was like, what the hell of my pictures look like? Yeah, but salute the pics. 11. I was up there yesterday promoting the car show.
Starting point is 01:14:34 But you know, what I also got to say is yesterday, we were having a conversation about Shakuri Richardson. And we were talking about how fast she was. And Charlamagne was like, ah, you know, she's fast for a woman, but there's men that's faster than her. And I was like, no, there isn't she fast? She's fast, fast. When I say, what you said was she would beat Chris Coleman in a race. And I said, y'all out your damn mind. That's how I believe her. Right. But not only that, when I say the amount of people that called me that were upset. Like, you know, what? You don't watch track and feel.
Starting point is 01:15:05 You don't know what you talk about. I was like, I don't. Like, it's not my thing. But people were mad, and then they sent me so many different people. Somebody sent me this eighth grader that runs faster than Chicago. Damn, what? A eighth grader is crazy. No, it's not crazy. No, but it's biology. It's a man in a woman.
Starting point is 01:15:22 No, no, no. No, no. Go ahead, Lauren. Keep sounding silly. Go ahead. Keep sounding silly. But, but no, I'm not about to say she runs faster. Shikari Richardson.
Starting point is 01:15:30 Tell him the time. But I feel like y'all playing with her a little bit. No, we're not. That eighth grade boy would dust her. He's faster. He's a man. Yes. A young man.
Starting point is 01:15:38 Yes. It wasn't that it was, we're taking anything from her. They were saying that when men and women race, it's different. And they were saying this eighth grader. She'll be in a race. Faster than Shikari Richardson. And her time,
Starting point is 01:15:49 his time was like 9.92. Yes. And her time was a lot faster. And they were just slower. It's slower. They were just comparing what it was. It wasn't nothing to take. It was not nothing to take.
Starting point is 01:15:57 It was not speed. That was it. So Lauren, they're saying that women are slower Yes Slower, we can't park, we can't drive Oh y'all sound ridiculous You're making this You're making this about something
Starting point is 01:16:10 That it don't need to be made about It's silly It's a silly conversation And by the way, salute to I'm not even gonna shout them out I do want to but I don't want to put them on blast But there was women that I know who run track The Olympic track runners who are like
Starting point is 01:16:22 Yo, we were bugging yesterday Not me, y'all was bugging I know they said I was bugging No I mean mad times like mad times But, yeah, I was. I didn't know track. We got some other women on our side that's faster than y'all niggins. Then us?
Starting point is 01:16:35 We're not track stars. Chicago could definitely probably y'all run me. I'm talking about the other women. Definitely. Yeah. We got them vase over here. You know what? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:44 I wish one of y'all would. You said that yesterday, too. You said Caitlin would raise Bruce. What? Yep. And Caitlin a dust Bruce. No, it would be a tie. You can't do that. You can't do that.
Starting point is 01:16:54 No. I hate this place. Don't try to get women equality now. Who are you giving me a donkey to? Man. Four after that. That was when you were supposed to say that has nothing to do with women.
Starting point is 01:17:04 It has nothing to be. Little Yachti needs to come to the front of the congregation. We like to have a word with them, please. All right. We'll get to that next. It's the breakfast club. Come on. The breakfast club.
Starting point is 01:17:14 Your mornings will never be the same. We wanted to know how you came up with the donkey of the day. Tell us out of my name. I am not. What did I do? I'll have made donkey a day. There's a bunch of don'ties out in the street. is why Charlamagne is here.
Starting point is 01:17:30 If we live a life where we fight our tongue based off who he made a thing, he never would say anything. We don't give a damn gone through it. Hey. On the breakfast club. In the words of Charlemagne, the guy, he's a donkey. That was a, what the fucking home? Oh, man, Charlemagne, you're giving donkey a day to who now? Well, Buster Rhyams, donkey a day for Friday, August 15th called the Little Yadi.
Starting point is 01:17:55 Now, you know, on Fridays, I like to open up the phone line so the people can give folks the credit they deserve for being stupid unless something is on my spirit and today something is on my spirit okay i was minding other people's business on social media last night and i saw that little yachty was receiving some backlash after appearing on a live stream with plaque boy max now i don't pay attention to backlash okay outrage on the internet because y'all always fake mad about something online all right the fuel that keeps the internet going is anger that's why you have individuals who make a living rage baiting okay rage baiting you digital deheads because they know the fastest way to garner engagement is to say something to make you mad.
Starting point is 01:18:33 So I listened to what everyone was upset about. And it was the first time in a while I was like, oh, this is valid outrage. Okay, I completely understand why folks is upset. See, Little Yadi previewed a new song. And in that song, he had a lyric about the late George Floyd. Let's listen to the bar. Right forward. Wait for it.
Starting point is 01:18:51 I tell you, I was something like I'll break the bank for it. Put my knee up on her neck. I went George Floyd. I mean tweaking if she ain't ever, she going to wait for me. Play it one more time, please. Wait for it. Wait for it. I see a hell.
Starting point is 01:19:05 That's something going to break the bank for it. Put my knee up on her neck. I went George Floyd. I read tweaking if she was going to wait for me. Put my knee up on her neck. I went George Floyd. Yadi, how you put a hole in your own boat? Okay, are you trying to sink the boat and drown?
Starting point is 01:19:20 Like, damn. No black solidarity is anything sacred? When we talk like that about situations like George Floyd, We make others comfortable to do it And then we get mad when others disrespect us I'm all for freedom of speech Okay, I don't have to agree with what you said But I agree with your right to say it
Starting point is 01:19:37 But you know what else is free Shut and the F up Okay See, I talk for a living Have I always gotten it right? Absolutely not But it's just some things you should know Not to say, okay, you should know not to play with somebody's loved one
Starting point is 01:19:51 Who the world watched die Okay, Yada, you are 27 years old And you are not a stupid young man In fact, you are very bright. Okay, I've watched you in interviews. I've watched you conduct interviews. I've always thought that you had a empathy about you because of how you have been attacked in this culture called hip-pop.
Starting point is 01:20:08 Okay, people used to label you as the poster child for whack rappers. All right? Some still do. Was that fair? Probably not, but that's what it was. Okay, I've seen you have empathy for Drake when Kendrick was busting his ass last year. So I ask a simple question. Would you write a bar about Kendrick, Molly Whopping Drake in their lyrical battle?
Starting point is 01:20:26 of course you wouldn't because that's your man you wouldn't want to hurt his feelings or his team's feelings i got a better one for you would you write a bar about the tragic senseless murder of the late great takeoff of course you wouldn't because you would have empathy for him and how he went out okay you would have empathy for his team and family so why wouldn't you give george floyd that same respect why disrespect that brother's family and friends like that you said put my knee up on her neck i went george floyd so you decided to channel that racist ass cracker ass cracker derrick the devil chauvin who killed george floyd okay you watched that video that the world saw the world saw derrick the devil chauvin kneeling on george floyd's neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds watch that man take his last breath calling for his mother and you at the big age of 27 decided you know what i'm gonna put that in a bar even if your brain thinks it immediately something got to say nah that ain't it okay and no engineer nobody in the studio said nigger no what are you doing
Starting point is 01:21:28 okay this is why you can't have a bunch of yesmen around you you got to have somebody around to simply tell you no and hell no and fno and i know folks is out there but charlemagne you believe in freedom of speech i do but you are not free from the consequences of said
Starting point is 01:21:44 speech you can say what you want about anybody and anything but you have to deal with what comes with that because there's a cost to everything that comes out of your mouth and before you speak you should always ask yourself, am I willing to pay this price? Now, Stephen Jackson from the All of Smoke podcast. Ropping
Starting point is 01:21:59 the Clues Bonds for the All the Smoke podcast. You already know he's stepping about George Floyd every time. As he should. Every time. Okay. He replied to Little Yadi yesterday and he had this to say let's listen. I'm just trying not to pay attention to you idiots, man. But like, it's just hard, bro.
Starting point is 01:22:15 Like, Lil Yadi, bro. You've been whacked, my. But you think you're saying George Floyd name and trying to use his name in the bar? That's going to make me for like your wack-ass music, my n**. That's weak. Y'all the only area that feel like demeaning the dead and saying that's cool, my, it ain't. It ain't.
Starting point is 01:22:34 And it's me and the whole third ward and the whole Houston, Texas, riding behind G, man. Don't ever say his name, bro. None of y'all, none of y'all knew G. Nothing about him. But y'all want to say his name for clout. Put a near from shit. I do some weak ass out of it, but let somebody die in your family. We're going to do a whole skit about it and see how funny it is, bro.
Starting point is 01:22:51 Cut that shit, man. It's only you wax sandball. that do shit dead. The only error that feel like demeaning the dead is okay. That is a very valid point. A little Yadi, whether you realize it or not, everybody who knew George Floyd and loved George Floyd feels exactly like Stephen Jackson does this morning.
Starting point is 01:23:07 That line was corny. Okay, it was very coonish. All right, George Floyd got murdered, knee to the neck from Derek Chauvin, and you turned his death into a corny-ass rap bar. Okay, the bar don't even make no sense. You put your knee up on her neck, you and George Floyd? What did you say? You want to kill her?
Starting point is 01:23:21 If you don't think you upset George Floyd's family well, Lauren Larosa got a statement from George Floyd's brother. Lauren, would you like to share what George Floyd's brother told you? Yes, Terrence Floyd said to me, he wants the lyric changed. He says, let his brother rest in peace. It has disturbed his family. People were sending him the clip all yesterday, so he had to listen to it and it disturbed him a lot. He says it's super inconsiderate.
Starting point is 01:23:45 Terrence Floyd also said to us that this generation doesn't pay attention to what they say. They just want to make a song and get it on the charts. And they feel like because of who they are, people will. listen and accept it, and that's not right. It's super inconsiderate. You should think about what you're writing and make it make sense because it impacts other people. He also has a message for Lil Yadi. He says, you know, if you're going to talk about George Floyd, let there be a better message
Starting point is 01:24:06 behind George Floyd's name so that his legacy can live beyond the tragedy that Chauvin caused. The best way to not have your peace disturbed is to not disturb the peace of others. Little Yadi, and to everyone who can hear my voice, please remember the simple golden rule we learned in grade school. do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Okay, Yaddy, you want respect, you got to give it. And the root of respect is not the full understanding of other people. It is the recognition of people's non-negotiable humanity.
Starting point is 01:24:37 Please give little Yadi the biggest he-ha. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. All right. Well, thank you for that don't get you. And the line was wet. Very. It's stupid. It's just a whack line. That doesn't make any sense. This is dumb, y'all.
Starting point is 01:24:54 All right. But, you know, today, switching gears, is the, it would be the 40th born day of the late great Nipsey Hustle. That's right. And it's only right. Nipsey Hustle's been up here a couple of times, and it's only right to get back his interview. Let's get that back on. I feel like we should celebrate Nipsey every opportunity we get. And today is his born day.
Starting point is 01:25:13 Today he would have been 40 years old today. That's right. And we're going to get that interview back on. When we come back to don't move, it's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody, is D.J.N.V. Just hilarious. Charlamy and the guy. We are the Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 01:25:31 Now, again, today would have been Nipsey Hustle's 40th birthday. And what we wanted to do in celebration of his life is we wanted to get on the interview when he was up here. Let's get into that. It's the breakfast club. Good morning. Nip, what's up, my brother? What's the deal, bro? Now, I don't know nothing about L.A. politics, but are you allowed to wear that much red? I can do it I won't, man. This is my brand.
Starting point is 01:25:51 Okay. You know what I'm saying? Absolutely. I like how red look with gold, you know what I mean? Will people trip like that with the colors you wear? It depends. Like, again, everybody know who I am as far as where I belong. So, you know, I'd be seeing, like, internet comments sometime when I'll be flamed up.
Starting point is 01:26:08 But in L.A., you know what I mean? We grew up, if you were what you want, that shit don't really apply. You know what I'm saying? Is it still heavy like that, though? I mean, it's like, if I'm in somebody else here with a gang, a red on and I'm not a known face and I'm in a crib hood, yeah, I'll probably get addressed. But I don't
Starting point is 01:26:28 think I had that problem. They were like, that's Nip, you know what I'm saying? Well, congratulations on the album. Finally, man. Finally, victory lap in stores. Go grab that stream, that, all that. You don't even seem to feel. I'd had to, it took too long, right? He had a lot to prove on that album. Yeah, I did. Let's talk about it. Now, the album is dope, first and foremost.
Starting point is 01:26:46 I love the album. I hear a lot that you don't like weird old rappers. Facts. Now, what's a weird old rapper to you? Well, I think you're talking about the line when I was like, this ain't this weird a rap you is used to. Yeah, I just feel like, you know, I felt pressure a little bit from
Starting point is 01:27:01 where the game is at, and there ain't no dish to nobody specific, just like it ain't, it ain't in the direction of what we grew up on in terms of like, you got to say something, you know what I mean, you got to be a man of respect or a woman of respect, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:27:18 Even from like, just the drug stuff, like, you know, that was never glorified in rap culture we could almost like live by Scarface or J.Z or Tupac lyrics if we ain't had no principles like a man around we could live by their lyrics
Starting point is 01:27:33 and come out as a solid individual that's what I meant just as far as like you know just returning to that direction I don't know like telling people what to do but just you know try to represent the principles that I grew up on in rap music that's one thing
Starting point is 01:27:49 I like about your music it always has socially redeeming value to it and on dedication you know Kendrick said that his man L said do a song with Nip he had better crib but Kendrick said he a man first you hear what he speaks about from black businesses to false imprisonment and he said listen close is bigger than deuce is in force so
Starting point is 01:28:05 is that a challenge for you to get people to see you for more than a stereotypical West Coast gangster rapper I mean people receive me based on what I said so I wouldn't blame people for that I came in and said this is where I'm from and this is where I represent but it was for a reason I wanted I wanted to establish, you know, what I belonged to.
Starting point is 01:28:22 And I looked at it like jail. That's what I used to tell my homies, because even some of my homeboys would be like, well, you can't come out, talking about the hood, specifically. You know what I mean? When you walk into a dorm, the first thing you establish is where are you from? And then from there, you get into the person behind this, just in case whoever got a problem with this, wherever your enemies is, you go to the back, you handle your business.
Starting point is 01:28:42 And then you get into like, okay, I could actually with you. You know what I mean? We get to know each other. but you get that out the way first. And so also I wanted to, I wanted my message to impact gang culture. You know what I had to say to impact individuals like myself, young people, I was in these areas that I was controlled by gangbanging. I didn't want to preach to the choir,
Starting point is 01:29:07 but I wanted to be able to say, you know, I'm one of you and where I'm going to go. Wherever I end up, you're going to know that you can end up there too, whether it's at the top of the game or in a successful situation. as a business owner I came from this and it's authentic and I'm not on the outside of this culture
Starting point is 01:29:23 that's why I came in like I came in I wasn't trying to like be on no super tough guys you know what I'm saying I just wanted to be clear that you know
Starting point is 01:29:31 wherever I take it I'm not I'm not different I'm exactly the same I've been through everything you've been through you're going to go through as somebody
Starting point is 01:29:39 in that culture what is a better crib what did that mean I don't know because I ain't said but what I would assume Kendrick meant was that
Starting point is 01:29:46 somebody that is not 100% biased or outside of communicating with a blood or somebody from the other side of the tracks. Maybe that's what I took it as, you know? But we had to ask Kendrick
Starting point is 01:30:03 his take on what he meant by that. You talk about the West Coast infrastructure. It was a period when you needed a Dr. Dreh Kohl-Sign to get out of the West. Why do you think that changed? Drey, man, he built... I call it an island. If you look at music,
Starting point is 01:30:18 It's like three or four islands in rap music, you know what I mean? And a lot of things that you might not know, well, y'all know, that the people might not know are connected to these islands. They connected. You got to, like, Jimmy Iveen, Dr. Dre Island, which you got a list. All the artists, Tupac came under that. Drake, Snoop, Game. Kendrick.
Starting point is 01:30:39 Well, yeah, Kendrick is a part of the top dog thing as well, but it connects. You know what I'm saying? And so then you got, like, the Leor Def Jam Island. and that, not Island Records, I'm just saying. Island, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, and Rough Riders, Murder, Inc., Rockefeller. Yeah, you know, Kanye, and all the artists that came after, yay, fall under that.
Starting point is 01:31:01 And then you got whatever happened on Sony. You know what I mean? And so it was one of them three options for an artist. And unless you wanted to go, what I call just taking the stairs and figuring out how to get into one of those situations. that's your own thing. Top Dog did it. You know what I'm saying? Top Dog created his own thing.
Starting point is 01:31:22 And so that was my goal to build an island myself. You know what I mean? I saw what, even like Jay, they got Rock Nation. That's the island. Right, absolutely. That's its own thing. Even though it came from them being an artist connected to another situation, they have turned that into its own operation.
Starting point is 01:31:35 Now, today would have been Nipsey Hustle's 40th birthday. So we just wanted to get on a classic interview from Nipsey Hustle that when he was on a breakfast club years ago. In 1920, a magazine article announced, something incredible. Two young girls had photographed real fairies. But even more extraordinary than the magazine article's claim was the identity of the man who wrote the article, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the man who wrote Sherlock Holmes. Yes, the man who invented literature's most brilliant detective was fooled by two girls into thinking fairies were real. How did they do it? And why

Starting point is 01:35:44 You sampled hard-knock life on the album. Yeah, yeah. Did you have to clear? Who did you have to clear that with? Jay-Z. Okay, okay. Yeah. You know what's crazy about that record?
Starting point is 01:35:52 I thought you played the keys over just enough when you didn't have to clear it. Nah, listen. That's a hard motivation record. Yeah, hustling motivation. Yeah. Yeah, so when Jay-Z got Annie to clear the record, I guess when he paid him, he said, y'all got to let every other rap artist after me use this. Wow.
Starting point is 01:36:07 Yeah. So that was his deal with whoever the producers and writers. That's interesting. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, so we benefited off his negotiation in 1998. Wow. We just had to get Jay Z to clear. Because when he cleared it with the owners of the copyright,
Starting point is 01:36:24 he made it to where any hip-hop artist after him could use a record. Jay did that, so hopefully you don't have to go through that. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah. So every hip-hop artist got to clear with Jay first? Well, they just need, excuse me, they just need the Jay-Z clearance. The anti-clearance is good, long as they're a hip-hop artist. Jay's always showed you love, though.
Starting point is 01:36:41 Didn't he buy, like, a thousand copies of your crinch album? What was the $1,000? He bought a hundred copies of Crenshaw. That was $100. Okay, okay. Yeah, yeah. And now you didn't even know him back then. Nah, I mean, you know, I met Jay in LA.
Starting point is 01:36:52 Years ago at a concert, I was just backstage and I, you know, I ran up to. I ain't run up to him. I'm just like, what's up? You know what I mean? I'm from L.A., bro. I'm rolling 60s. He actually bought a lowrider. The story is, I ain't never asked him, but he bought a lowrider from one of my homeboys, money Mike.
Starting point is 01:37:06 That's in the Maya video. Best of me. The baby blue one. Yeah, you know what I mean? from one of my homeboys, one of my G-hommies from L.A. I was the old-school hustler. That was really his, huh? Yeah, that was his.
Starting point is 01:37:15 He bought that. I'm tired of that, being so real. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's confirmed, you know what I mean? Wow. So I just was like, yeah, I'm nip. I'm rolling 60s. He's like, no, I know.
Starting point is 01:37:25 And, you know, this was years before the Crenshaw thing. He's like, you know, y'all, keep going. So that was the only combo we ever had until the Crenshaw thing. But, yeah, Jake's been a hundred, man. So, you know what I mean? A lot of love. Now, blue lace is two. One of my favorite records on the album,
Starting point is 01:37:41 you make a spook who sat by the door reference. You know about that, man. Oh, yeah, absolutely. I read that book, but I don't think you were spook who sat by the door. I think your intentions are pretty clear. Well, now I would say so. But even to the point we made earlier, that's one of the reasons I was so vocal about where I was coming from
Starting point is 01:37:56 and what I represented, because I knew who I wanted to mobilize. You know what I mean? And if anybody that ain't seen that movie, I read the book, it's about a gang member from Chicago who, you know, presented himself in a way he never caught no cases he was he was he had a clean cut look and he infiltrated the CIA yep and he became educated and became and basically he used their agenda
Starting point is 01:38:21 which was to have a token in the CIA for political reasons you know we're going to speak blunt he used it against him and I think that in terms of hip hop you think of the message that they embrace I feel parallel with like you know what I mean the the power structure I don't mean the culture of hip-hop, but the power structure, music, they got prescribed personas they expect from us. You know what I'm saying? So I feel like the way he used their intention against him was one of my underlying strategies.
Starting point is 01:38:52 You got to put the medicine in the candy. And what's interesting about that book, all his people used to call him, my uncle Tom and a cool, and sell-out. But he was there working for them the whole time. Yeah, and he, I don't want to go blow nothing up like he did in the movie, you know what I mean? But just in terms of being able to mobilize his homies,
Starting point is 01:39:09 to a higher cause, you know? There's a lot of little jewels that you're saying, and that's what I like. Like, I said the medicine really is in the candy because even when you drop a ball, like, about Dr. Sebi. Yeah. Like, just that one thing, they killed Dr. Sebi will make somebody go research who who who Dr. Seby is.
Starting point is 01:39:22 100%. Dr. Seedy. Dr. Seedy. Seedy. My bad, I said it wrong. You said Sevy, sir. I'm a L.A. Man, my lingo a little different.
Starting point is 01:39:29 Have you met Dr. CB? I never met him. I met his wife, and I take his products, for sure. Why do you think they killed him? Why do they kill all holistic doctors? Right. Messing up the medical insurance. You short-stopping their grind.
Starting point is 01:39:40 Why do you get killed for hustling in front of a n-knit spot? You short-stopping the grind. And these, they check is billions. You got that get flipped for a couple hundred thousand. So you're playing with some pharmaceutical money, you know. And what's crazy, I'm working on doing a documentary on the trial in 1985 when Dr. Sevi went to trial against New York. Right.
Starting point is 01:40:01 Because he put the newspaper, he cured AIDS. Did he beat the case? And he went to federal court the next year. day and beat that case on record and nobody talk about it I think the story's important I think it's a powerful narrative it is you know what I mean and I think if imagine this anybody in this room if I could say hey somebody cured AIDS y'all be like yeah right and then I can show you an example of him going a trial and proving in a court to a jury that he cured AIDS y'all be interested in that absolutely and y'all would look into the way he did it right so I feel like more so than like
Starting point is 01:40:37 champion his products or explaining his methodology put some light on that case imagine being able to cure cancer or being able to cure any type of herpes and that's what he do by the way that's what he did yeah yeah he used to send all types
Starting point is 01:40:52 of vitamins up to the station you had herpes no I said vitamins to the station did you hear me I said vitamins to the damn this guy's crazy my last question for nip man because I'm riding in the car and I'm like boy nip gonna get in some for this you said that your mistress is Creole.
Starting point is 01:41:09 How do you get away with that? Man, it's music, man. I said, I said, my wife is a C-note. I said, this life is a free throat. My wife is a C-note, but my mistress is Creo. You know, that was, that was, that was, well, number one, I recorded that before me, before I had a girl, for real. Okay, all right.
Starting point is 01:41:27 That's a disclaimer. That's a fact, though. I ain't just being political, but then again, it's music, man. Like, my girl's an actress. If she kissing on camera, what I'm going to be mad? No, do your thing I love the fact you said your girl So y'all back together, y'all good
Starting point is 01:41:41 Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're solid Players fuck up too, man That's all I'm gonna say about that That's the reason I ask Because she don't play She don't run down on you She pressed me You know, she ran down on Charlotte
Starting point is 01:41:49 You know, she didn't know what I'm saying But yeah, Boogie man You know how to defend herself And stand up, you know what I mean And you know, she's from L.A. She grew up, a lot of people might think she got a privileged background She ain't got no privileged background
Starting point is 01:42:04 They think she's new-new in real life That's what they think Yeah, yeah, no, but she comes from L.A., man, and you know what I mean? She's seen Charlemagne to zero then, but she quit, I told her from jump, though. I'm like, you're going to meet Charlemagne and like Charlemagne, respect Charlemagne. You know what I mean? Charlemagne known for being honest and, you know what I mean, ruffling feathers, but I know his stance. And I'm like, y'all got the similar mentality in terms of, like, what's right, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:42:30 So, yeah, she got a lot of love and respect for you. We appreciate you joining us. Nipsey-Hawks. I was out right now, Victory Lap. Yeah. And it's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:42:41 The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy. Just hilarious. Salomey and the Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. It's time for Pastor Oaks. Go.
Starting point is 01:42:52 Go. Go. Go. Hey, DJ, because that my DJ. Say, go, DJ. Because they're my DJ. Yep. Nyla.
Starting point is 01:43:01 Layla. Yeah, DJ. Come spin. What's up Nile What's up M-Vee? What's up Shard Jess? How are you? Big Nile. Nila, Nala Simone. What's happening? Oh, man, I'm excited. A lot of new music draft today. I'm really, really excited about this Marco Plus project.
Starting point is 01:43:18 So that's the first song I'm going to start, or the first artist I'm going to start with. The whole project is fire. Seriously. Like, but I'm going to get into smoking all day. And young man, snapping. Where are you from? Snapping. He's from Atlanta. You said me that yesterday. I got a list to it. He's snapping. Yes. And I like the beat. Real chill.
Starting point is 01:43:33 Yes. The whole tape is like that He do have a few joints that are kind of like I don't want to say clubbish But a little more melodic But bars I've been waiting for Atlanta For the Atlanta sound
Starting point is 01:43:45 There's been so many different sounds Over the last 25 30 years But I've been waiting for them to get back to Like that outcast Goody Mob dungeon family feel And I feel like with Jid And even that guy you just played right there I feel like we're starting to get a lot more of that
Starting point is 01:43:59 From the 8 I'm thankfully I'm not going to lie I did the Need to Know podcast and we were comparing like Jid and Gunna's project and I was like
Starting point is 01:44:08 I feel like after the Kendrick and the clips it's hard I don't want to say it's hard for me but I'm not really feeling just sonically pleasing album somewhere like the Gunna album's not doing it for me like the Jid project you want to hear them talk about things
Starting point is 01:44:19 I want to hear them talking about something socially redeeming values some substance I get it yes so that's where I'm at with it but next record I'm gonna get into is this Cardi B imaginary players it's been teased all week online she flipped Jay Z's imaginary players
Starting point is 01:44:33 She got some bars in there. Yeah, she did. She got some bars. How you like it? I really hate the delivery throughout pretty much the whole song. Yeah. Oh, okay. I like, she got some bars in there.
Starting point is 01:44:43 Gloryhole chicks, y'all don't know who you effing with. You would love the glory hole line. She had, you know, Bob Bitton's watches, take the links out. Like, she's, she got some bars in there. I told you all yesterday that the hardest people to please with that record was going to be individuals born in the 1900s because we grew up on imaginary players. So it's a high bar. Yeah. Like, it's a very, very high.
Starting point is 01:45:03 high bar so to me it's okay you know it's like something that would be cool on a mixtape or an interlude on the album but as a single for the rollout is received I don't think it's one of those you know personally I think people should leave certain classics alone like there's no upside to doing it
Starting point is 01:45:19 because I can't help but compare it to the original I think she was she just been attached to it because she said like she used to bump this this is something that she wanted to do like as a New York tribute like to hold you know what I mean like this is something that she grew up on This is one of hers, so, you know, one of her favorite songs. But also, she's like that.
Starting point is 01:45:37 Like, she has the bread, the money, the cars, the jewelry. She's out outside, so. But we hear her talk to that talk. I think it's cool. I like what she's talking about. Like, I think it's fun, but I just think sonically, like, for a song, it's just really not that pleasing. Also, I feel like, and I felt like this were her last few, what, freestyle she was doing
Starting point is 01:45:57 last year over at Missy Elliott Beat. Not that it's, I want to say, like, I feel like the video. are so overproduced where you could really just don't even need the video and just put out a good record to me but I like the record
Starting point is 01:46:10 speaking of good records let's get into this last joint called Holy Father from Mani Wells he's an Afrobeat slash R&B artist from the DMV
Starting point is 01:46:19 yo I like it he sounds like Chance to rap a little bit now does he try like when you know when Chance start do the singing thing yeah that's what he sound like
Starting point is 01:46:28 to me a little bit but I love the song interesting yeah okay it was cool Well, Chance also dropped the album today, too. Shout out to Chance. Oh, snap.
Starting point is 01:46:35 That's what I'm. Okay. Any thoughts on the record? Oh, listen to when I get depressed and it's raining. And then I'll tell you how I feel like. I'm in too much of a good mood right now. It was cool. When I'm depressed.
Starting point is 01:46:46 It's like one of those moods record. It's not depressed. That's what it felt like to me. It's not depressed. I got, I don't know. That beat, soon as I heard, you talk about things that aren't sonically pleasing. As soon as I heard that beat, I was like, uh, it's the sun's out. All right.
Starting point is 01:47:00 I don't want to hear that right now. No, stop. That's not, I'm just saying. Was it devoted? Was it the, uh, I didn't even, I didn't even, as soon as I heard that, I think it's the part of the song that was picked. I think that's your fault. You didn't.
Starting point is 01:47:12 Soon as I heard that. I actually didn't pick it. I just picked the song. And that was that, what's that song, that we like, um, oh, man. Someone please call. No, right. You know what I'm talking about? The Whitchie White record.
Starting point is 01:47:25 Is it Miguel? No, not Miguel. It ain't the windshield. Wife. Y'all know what I'm talking about, man. I don't know what I'm talking about. Oh, it's flip. Oh, it's right there on my mind.
Starting point is 01:47:32 It's a classic record. If you guys really like these records, make sure you guys follow me on Instagram at Naila Simone, and you can click the link in bio. It's certifybibb.com, and the playlist is there. Our events is there. I have an event September 9th with Static Select the 9th Wonder. And Rob Markman.
Starting point is 01:47:50 Oh, that's real hip-hop. It's going to be so good. I can smell the Tims and the Chisd. Oh, my God. It's going to be guys in there with denim shorts and Tim's on. All day, all day. Oh, God.
Starting point is 01:48:03 Leave Rob alone. And a Nick jersey and a Yankee fit. Man, leave Rob alone. That's a nasty fit when you think about it. A Yankee fitted with a Nick's jersey, then the jeans shirt. That's most New Yorker's starter kit. But why you got to do the Yankees and the Nick Jersey? We know you from New York.
Starting point is 01:48:21 And there's the long jeans shirts? You got to know. You're talking about the long long long longs fans. Yankees. Questions that need answers. Nick's fans and Yankees. You heard that too. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:48:32 You said you was a fan of Dix, sporting goods. That's what I heard. I heard you say you would. Oh, my God. Get your ticket, guys. Go to 35. What's wrong with you, man? What's wrong with you?
Starting point is 01:48:42 And then the Cardi Barty bar. He said, yo, the glory hole. The glory hall. It's not even a pride month. It's not even pride month. You just celebrate. That you, the hard line part is not healthy. Crazy.
Starting point is 01:48:52 Yeah, the people's choice mixes up next. Let's go, y'all. The Breakfast Club. Your mornings will never be the same. Morning, everybody. J. N.V. Starting point is 01:49:46 I was very sick, Ashley Larry. It's going to be me. You're right. Donna Rawlins. Same thing. Yo, he's not Ashley Larry no more. He will always be Ashley Larry. And if he don't want us to keep calling him Ashley Larry
Starting point is 01:49:56 and he need to stop acting like Ashley Larry. Well, me, Ashley Larry. Yonnell Rollins, D. Ray Davis, and Chico Bain. So get your tickets if you haven't yet. I can't wait to see y'all, West Coast. Be there soon, Sacramento. How are those shows like that? Because they're all our people.
Starting point is 01:50:11 Like, I mean, those are all my people. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Like, that's like a family affair almost, right? Yeah. So I can't wait to get there. Our only person that we're missing is Carlos. Carlos in D.C.
Starting point is 01:50:22 I never, I actually never did a show with Carlos Miller. Really? As close as we are, I never did a show with Carlos Miller. I did shows with D. and Chico, but never Carlos Miller. I actually called Carlos yesterday at the FaceTime. I had to ask him about some cars because Carlos is in the cars. Yes, when he was
Starting point is 01:50:38 up here, he was saying like he wanted to be on the car show. And that's what we need to do more. I always tell people that, like, if you knows, if somebody knows something more than you, ask. Duh. So I FaceTime Carlos. But I tested calling him. It's me FaceTime on you. If you don't have on clothes, just cover the camera. So I face it.
Starting point is 01:50:54 You know, some people will be like they might be in bed or on the toilet. So I just say, well, this cover the camera. I want you to see something. Make sure everything is cool. And he got it. By the way, the only reason I've been able to build the things that I've been able to build is doing it with people who know more than you. Absolutely. Are going to talk to the people who are experts in said area. I don't launch a movie production company with nobody who's never done movies.
Starting point is 01:51:16 That's right. You know what I'm saying? How long did it get to that point? Like, were you ever trying to find out about it and somebody wanted to get, keep some information, something from you? Well, you never had that problem. Honestly, personally, I've never had that issue. You know what I'm saying? Probably because, you know, you get back what you give out.
Starting point is 01:51:33 So if you aren't a gatekeeper and somebody that holds information from people, I don't think people will hold it from you. Now, if you're a person that holds information from folks, you're probably going to run into a lot of people who hold information from your dumb ass too. That's right. Okay. Let's salute the caller. spoke to me yesterday.
Starting point is 01:51:47 Now, Shaliman, you got a positive note? I do. I want to remind people to go out there and pick up Cheryl McKissick-Daniels new book, The Black Family, Who Built America. You know, she was a guest on Breakfast Club this week. She put out this amazing book that tells the story of McKissick and McKissick of fifth generation, soon to be seventh generation, minority-owned, black woman-owned construction company. And it's been around since the 1800s.
Starting point is 01:52:11 It's built buildings. They've developed buildings like the Barclay Center and they've contributed to the Lincoln Field in Philadelphia. A whole bunch of stuff, man. Pick up the book. The Black Family Who Built America by Cheryl McKissick-Daniel, available everywhere you buy books now, courtesy of my book Imprint Black Privilege Publishing
