Hey guys, I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show,
where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more.
After those runs, the conversations keep going.
That's what my podcast, Post Run High, is all about.
It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories,
their journeys, and the thoughts that
arise once we've hit the pavement together. Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey y'all, Nimany here. I'm the host of a brand new history podcast for kids and families called
Historical Records. Executive produced by Questlove, The Story Pirates, and John Glickman,
Historical Records brings history to life through hip-hop.
Flash, slam, another one gone.
Bash, bam, another one gone.
The crack of the bat and another one gone.
The tip of the cap, there's another one gone.
Each episode is about a different inspiring figure from history.
Like this one about Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old girl in Alabama
who refused to give up her seat on the city bus
nine whole months before Rosa Parks did the same thing.
Check it.
And it began with me.
Did you know, did you know?
I wouldn't give up my seat.
Nine months before Rosa, it was Claudette Colvin. Get the kids in your life excited about history by tuning in to Historical Records.
Because in order to make history, you have to make some noise.
Listen to Historical Records on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Hi, I'm Marie.
And I'm Sydney.
And we're Mess.
Well, not a mess, but on our podcast called Mess, we celebrate all things messy.
But the gag is not everything is a mess.
Sometimes it's just living.
Yeah, things like J-Lo on her third divorce.
Living.
Girls trip to Miami.
Mess.
Breaking up with your girlfriend while on Instagram Live.
Living.
It's kind of mess.
Yeah.
Well, you get it.
Got it?
Live, love, mess.
Listen to Mess with Sydney Washington and Marie Faustin on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On Thanksgiving Day, 1999, five-year-old Cuban boy Elian Gonzalez was found off the coast of Florida.
And the question was, should the boy go back to his father in Cuba?
Mr. Gonzalez wanted to go home, and he wanted to take his son with him.
Or stay with his relatives in Miami?
Imagine that your mother died trying to get you to freedom. Listen to Chess Peace, the Elian Gonzalez story on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Better known as the people's sake. DJ Envy.
Better known as the People's Choice.
And salute to all my light-skinned brothers out there.
Just Hilarious.
Just for the worldwide last.
Just don't do no lie.
And Charlamagne Tha God.
Don't do the date.
Everybody come to the Breakfast Club.
I call this the hot seat.
Y'all are wild.
Y'all are wild.
Breakfast Club.
It's like being on America's front porch.
Y'all feel like my wrist is like this.
I never talk to you. Every time I go to the Breakfast Club, I know it's going to be America's front porch. Don't feel like my wrist is like this. I never talk to me.
Every time I go to the Brev's Club, I know it's going to be like a good morning.
I'm getting high.
Good morning, yo. Jess Hilarious. Hey. Charlemagne Tha God. Peace to the... No, Charlemagne Tha God.
Peace to the planet.
And it's Friday.
Good morning.
There you go.
It's Friday.
Welcome to the weekend.
Jess Hilarious is here.
She's just walking in.
She's getting her headphones on.
Hopefully, you had an amazing day yesterday.
What's up, Jess?
Can you hear me yet?
What's up?
How you feeling?
I'm good. How are you? I'm good. I'm still in Atlanta. I've been outside the station since 515 in the rain because the person I was supposed to let me in, I guess his clock didn't go off. So he overslept. I felt like, you know, the dog in the pound that's trying to get in and nobody wants to let me in. I was just my face was at the glass. Security passed me mad times. hey what are you doing out here but they finally got me in so i am here but how are you feeling yo went out last night and he he overslept that's what happened
that's what happened he went out last night because atlanta there's always something going on
every day of the week that's right i'm out here for they do this huge r&b picnic on saturday
yesterday i did this event at lincoln tech they opened up their East Point campus, which is in Atlanta, Georgia.
So Lincoln Tech is a trade school. So if you're interested in health care, automotive, welding or anything like that, they kicked open their school, which I was there.
I brought a couple of cars so people could see. It was pretty cool. And then this Saturday is the R&B picnic they do in the park.
They expect like five, six thousand people to just listen in to R&B music.
They got so many DJs.
They got performers.
It's always a dope performance, a dope thing, I should say.
And that happens this Saturday in the city.
So I'm excited about that.
What you doing this weekend?
Anything?
Yeah, I got the Strength of a Woman Summit.
Margie Blige and Pepsi collaborated, and I'm hosting that.
So that's going to be amazing.
What you doing for Mother's Day? Anything? No, yo, nothingblage, and Pepsi collaborated, and I'm hosting that. So that's going to be amazing. What you doing for Mother's Day?
Anything?
No, yo, nothing, honestly.
Yo, it came up so fast.
It did.
And none of these holidays ever feel like they used to.
So it's like, you remember, like, people used to prepare for Mother's Day.
Oh, what I'm going to get, what I'm going to do, or what.
Like, no, it just comes so fast, everything.
Yeah, you know, the thing with Mother's Day, I feel like everything is so expensive, right?
When you get flowers on Mother's Day, usually let's say flowers are $20, $25.
Now they're $50, $60, $70 for flowers.
When you go to a restaurant, the food is never good like on Valentine's Day because they're cooking so fast because so many people.
So the food is never good.
So it's just always, it's never a great experience on Mother's Day or Valentine's Day's day when you go out it just always feels like that and then i've been doing so much so like
yo planning this baby shower and then i have two nurseries that i'm building like getting together
the one here in jersey and then the one at my home in maryland and then um maternity shoot i'm like
oh damn forgot about that and then it's like so much going on. Then I'm still trying to get the schooling situation up here for Ash because he's coming.
He's coming this year to start the next school year.
So it's so much going on.
Then I look up and I'm like, oh my God, it's Mother's Day.
Jesus Christ.
Yeah, and then next week is me and my wife's anniversary.
We've been married 23 years.
Congratulations.
Yeah, so we got Mother's Day on Sunday, our anniversary on Monday,
and then Madison graduates college this week as well.
So it's a lot going on.
Do you need any money?
Oh, you offering?
Yeah, because damn, that's a lot.
A graduation, an anniversary.
Damn, that's a lot.
And I was watching Best Man Holiday yesterday.
Remember when Terrence Howard asked me, do you need any money?
Do you need any money?
You're going to need some money after all three of them.
You see him out here DJing.
Right.
All right.
Well, let's get the show cracking.
We got the cast of Good Times joining us this morning.
Yes.
So they'll be joining us.
That's Ralph Carter, Bernadette, and Jimmy Walker.
So we'll be kicking with them in a little bit on this Flashback Friday.
Charlamagne will be here in a minute.
And it's the Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne the guy.
We are the Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
What up, Charlamagne?
Yo, what's happening?
What's the word?
Happy Friday to everybody.
Let's get in some front page news.
Start off with sports.
The Cavaliers beat the Celtics.
They tied a series 1-1.
They won last night,-18-94.
And the Mavericks beat the Thunder 1-19-110.
That series is tied as well 1-1.
Oh, man.
Knock it off.
You ain't watching no damn basketball.
Now, yesterday in court, Donald Trump, of course, was back in court.
And this time he got a chance to cross-examine Stormy Daniels.
And it was fireworks just like we thought. A grueling day for Stormy Daniels.
Very, very contentious morning of cross-examination. The porn star faced an intense
grilling from Donald Trump's attorney, Susan Necklace, who accused her of lying.
You have a lot of experience of making phony stories about sex appear to be real.
Wow, Stormy responded, the sex in my films is very much real, just like what happened to me
in that room. Necklace pressed Stormy over how much she hates Trump, reading an old tweet from
Stormy in which she called the former president an orange turd. Oh, I absolutely meant Mr. Trump.
If they want to make fun of me, I can I absolutely meant Mr. Trump if they want
to make fun of me I can make fun of them. Trump's attorney honed in on some
inconsistencies in the way Stormy has recounted the night she says she met
Trump at the Lake Tahoe Hotel. Stormy told 60 Minutes that she had dinner with
Trump. Did you two go out for dinner that night? No. You had dinner in the room? Yes.
But in court she said Trump invited her to dinner, however there was no food. You could remember the
color of the tiles, but you can't remember if you ate. It was dinner, it was dinner time,
but I maintain that I didn't see any food. You're trying to make me say my story changed,
but it hasn't changed. I don't even know what they're trying to prove in this case
no more. There was no food.
There was no food. What does it matter
what happened in that room?
Are they saying Trump is disgusting?
Are they saying he's a man
that's not of good character?
Everybody knows this. We've been watching him forever.
And the people who support him
do not care. There's nothing y'all gonna show people who support him do not care there's nothing
y'all gonna show people about donald trump in this case that's gonna make the people who support him
change their mind not at all now i said trump cross-examined i meant trump attorneys uh cross
examined yeah because trump would have did it it would have been way more entertaining definitely
i'm like that wasn't as entertaining as trump would have cross-examined and lastly we got to
talk about this 16 year old anti-Israel protester.
He was arrested for vandalizing a Central Park memorial.
And this is after his father seen him on TV and turned him in.
Explain the story again.
16-year-old.
A 16-year-old.
He was vandalizing the World War I memorial in Central Park earlier this week.
He was arrested.
Okay.
His father turned him in after seeing the boy, I guess, spray painting the memorial, seen him on TV his father turned him in after seeing the boy i guess uh spray
painting the memorial seen him on tv and turned him in he was uh charged with criminal mischief
and a third degree of felony and making graffiti uh graffiti which is a misdemeanor uh for defacing
the memorial so he's a young he's what pro-palestine then okay so that hurts his daddy
said you're gonna got your ass in this house okay all right that's what the hell you're gonna do
but let me ask you as a father and and you Jess, as a mother, would you turn your 16-year-old in?
Man, that's hard to say.
If I seen him on TV and he was doing that, something like that, I don't know.
It's hard to say.
I'm not saying yes.
I'm not saying no.
But I'm not the type of parent that contributes.
I mean, I don't indulge in crime and stuff like that.
I don't do that. So you're turning his ass in? Pretty much. Charlamagne? I'm not the type of parent that contributes to, I mean, that indulge, you know, I don't indulge in crime and stuff like that. I don't do that.
So you turn in his ass in?
Pretty much.
Charlamagne?
I'm not going to.
It depends how many times I've tried to reach him.
You know what I mean?
Like, how many times have I tried to reach this individual?
Has this individual been constantly making these same mistakes?
You know, I don't know.
There was a mom who did that in Baltimore when the riots had broke out after Freddie Gray's death.
And his mother actually saw him.
I don't know if he was trying to fight the police or something.
They was rioting and looting and all that.
And she turned to him and she beat his ass on camera, though.
They lived right there.
She beat his ass on camera and then she turned to him.
Yeah, kids got to learn that there's consequences to your actions.
So if you're the person that witnesses those actions, it's a tough space to be in.
I guess it's also how clear they see his face on TV.
Like, it's clear, clear.
And they know it's Lil Johnny, but like, I got to turn you in, Lil Johnny.
I done told this boy.
I done told this boy a million times.
This boy just keep raising my blood pressure.
This boy just keep making me want to punch him in his face.
I can't do anything with him.
His daddy ain't around.
No, it was a daddy, though.
See, never mind.
I'm sorry.
See, there you go.
Stereotype.
See, stereotype.
That's front page news.
Get it off your chest.
800-585-1051.
If you need to vent, phone lines are wide open on this Friday.
Again, 800-585-1051.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
The Breakfast Club.
It's a new day.
This is your time to get it off your chest.
Wake up.
Whether you're mad or blessed.
It's time to get up and get something.

800-585-1051.
We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club.
Hello, who's this?
It's Jonathan.
Jonathan, what up?
Get it off your chest, bro.
I just called to tell you just hilarious and deep day envy.
I appreciate what y'all do.
Y'all keep me rolling out here in the morning towing these cars.
All right, that's what it is.
We appreciate your service, sir.
Wait, do you tow cars as far as you deliver them,
or you pick up cars with people that didn't pay their bill or tickets?
I'm a repossession agent.
Damn it.
Okay.
Well, I appreciate that we keep you going to do that.
Now, if somebody's out there while you repossess them, do you give them a little shot, a little chance to say, get out of here, or are you taking it?
I give them a chance to try to get their stuff out.
I'll try to call a finance company to work it out before I take it, you know.
Sometimes you got to work with the people
and you never know
what they're going through.
I ain't going front.
There's a TV show on,
I can't remember
what channel.
Oh my God,
yeah,
I know what you're
talking about.
But that is so
interesting to see them.
I think it's in Baltimore,
Philly.
It's one of those areas
and them people
be fighting y'all.
Ray said it's Miami.
In Miami,
they be fighting y'all.
They be swinging at y'all,
throwing stuff at y'all.
I see somebody
pull out a gun
on one of y'all.
You be safe out there, brother. Don't be trying to say that's Baltimore. My bad. In Miami, they be fighting y'all. They be swinging at y'all, throwing stuff at y'all. I seen somebody pull out a gun on one of y'all. Yeah, you be safe out there, brother.
Don't be trying to say that's Baltimore.
My bad.
Oh, yeah.
Someone just got shot down in Florida.
We pulled on the car.
Down in Florida.
Damn it, man.
All right, well, be safe out there.
I'm in Columbia, South Carolina.
803, what's happening?
All right, brother.
Yes, sir.
Well, be safe out there.
Hello, who's this?
Hi, good morning. This is Adeen. Hey, Adeen., be safe out there. Hello, who's this? Hi, good morning.
This is Adeen.
Hey, Adeen.
Get it off your chest.
Hi, I just wanted to say this is Nurses Week,
and I just wanted to shout out to all my nurses out there,
especially us black nurses.
I'm so happy to see so many of us out here,
and it really does make a difference.
And I just wanted to say happy Nurses Week
and for us to keep doing what we're doing.
Yes, right. We need y'all. Salute toall salute to your service salute to you thank you for your service we appreciate it thank you so much these are essential workers man we haven't heard that
word since covid but you know the nurses essential worker absolutely tow truck drivers not so much
but we appreciate you don't do all that hello who Hello, who's this? What's going on?
This is Chris from Jersey.
Hey, what's up, brother?
Get it off your chest.
What's going on?
I'm just going to call in and say
I want to give a shout out
to all my brothers and sisters in blue.
I want everybody to take a moment
and just reflect that, you know,
we're losing a lot of these police officers
for no reason.
That's all I want to, you know,
have people just reflect on for a minute. People are losing their family members for no reason.'s all i want to you know have people just reflect on for a minute
people are losing their family members for no reason they go to work they try to do their best
protect and serve and change their community and and it's crazy we lost i believe about 57 officers
this year alone so far and we're only in may wow yeah i mean it's crazy you know that uh officers
and civilians you know both don't realize all we want to do is get home at the end of the day, you know.
And I think that we got to remember that when we're having interactions with each other, you know, don't try to hurt me.
I'm not trying to hurt you either. We just trying to, you know, both get home at the end of the day.
Yeah. The best way to solve a problem sometimes is just talking and understanding what the other person's going through. That's right.
It's not always about following. Absolutely.
Understanding. And salute to all
the good police officers out there doing the right thing,
man. We salute to you too, brother. Get it
off your chest. 800-585-1051.
If you need to vent, call
us up now. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
The Breakfast Club.
This is your time to get it off your chest.
800-585-1051.
We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club.
Hello, who's this?
What's going on? It's Rick.
What's up, brother? Get it off your chest.
What up, Rick?
What's going on?
So I want to get it off my chest.
I know y'all guys not really good body fans,
but I really wanted to say, though, like,
the 94 crime bill was only created because throughout the 80s the ronald reagan administration basically
let cocaine within our streets and flooded our neighborhoods with gang violence people were
robbed killed over these drugs which caused people to get scared and that's what caused the 1994 crime
bill so there's always like a cause and effect of things when like things happen so like republicans
have messed things up and democrats have fixed it but we don't really like to fix.
Hey, my brother, what you just said is half true because the reality is when it comes to the 86 crack laws and the 88 crack laws,
those are both also crime bills created by President Biden.
Well, now President Biden was Senator President Biden back then.
If you go back And you watch the interview
That I did with him
You know
That everybody talks about
You know
What he said
You ain't black
You know
He said that mass incarceration
The 94 crime bill
Didn't lead to mass incarceration
It was the
86 crime bill
And I was like
Yeah
You created that as well
So
So people need to go back
And watch that
There are always like
A reason things
Like happen Is if When people try to fix it It don't. There are always, like, a reason things, like, happen.
It's just when people try to fix it,
it don't people already like to fix.
Yeah.
I don't know how, you know, over-punishing people
a lot of times for addiction was fixing anything.
Mm-hmm.
You know?
And that's, like, the same way they treat opioids now.
Like, it's an addiction and people actually need help.
That's how they should have been treating crack
in the 80s and 90s. That's a fact. Thank you. Hello, who's an addiction and people actually need help. That's how they should have been treating crack in the 80s and 90s.
That's a fact.
Thank you.
Hello, who's this?
Oh, this is Nick out of Itty Bitty Plants, Florida.
What's up, Nick?
Get it off your chest.
Oh, what's going on, Jess?
Where you at?
What's up?
What's up?
Okay, I just wanted to let everybody know to take that time off work
because this job is going to replace you if you die within a day or within a week.
So take that time off work and enjoy it with your family and your friends.
We're here for a good time.
We're not here for a long time.
That's right.
All right, brother.
Hello, who's this?
Shiloh, good morning.
Hi, guys.
Good morning.
Good morning.
Get it off your chest, mama.
I just want to say happy Mother's Day to my mom.
I love my mom.
Eight for 30 years.

Charlamagne
DJ Envy
Jess Samarius

I love you guys
Well there's people like you
It's your fault that we on the radio
every morning because you listen and you enjoy us.
We appreciate it so much. Thank you, Mama.
Get it off your chest.
800-585-1051. If you need
to vent, you can hit us up. Now, Jess, we got the mess coming up.
Yes. Another day. Another
alleged trespasser.
Another one? Another one. Back to back.
Jesus Christ. Alright. We'll get into that
next. It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
The Breakfast Club.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club on this Friday.
Happy Friday.
Good morning, y'all.
How y'all feel out there?
That's right.
Well, let's get to Jess with the miss.
The news is real, brother.
Jess Hilarious, Jessica Robin Moore.
Jess don't do no lying. She don't spell nobody. miss on the breakfast club she's a coach she was able to get y'all to see something and understand
something that nobody could get you to see it's time to set it off okay so another
trespasser at Drake's house CMD reported that another person tried to break into
Drake's house in Toronto it's the second attempt this week and it's not the same
person as last time so the person I reported on yesterday he was arrested
well he was taken to the mental health he you know the situation another one or
just this yeah i was
talking about what i did yesterday but what i reported yesterday but this is a different person
um toronto police shared that they got a call around 3 30 p.m about a person trespassing on
the property the person was stopped and detained by drake's security before the police could get
there the ambulance were called to dra Drake's house and took the intruder
to the hospital. Most likely
from injuries, um, for the
injuries from the fight with Drake's security.
Is anybody having conversations with these
people to see, uh, why they're doing this?
Because, you know, are they, are they super
fans? Are they people that want to cause
Drake harm? Like, why are they,
why do they keep popping up at his house? Well, yesterday
it sounded like the super fan because they they said that he was
insane like you know he had mental issues yeah yeah but they didn't say
that about this guy he got into a fight with Drake security what he did sure
security should be beating their ass every time they come up with no
absolutely every single time but this is what happens when you wanted a biggest
superstars in the world because this is. Because this has not just happened at Drake's house in Canada.
It's happened at Drake's house in California as well.
I wonder why now, though.
Back to back like this.
Yeah, exactly.
Because Drake's address has been pretty knowledgeable.
It's been on Google.
People have known for a long time.
They know in Toronto.
I wonder how many times this has happened and we didn't hear about it.
I wonder because now, since the whole Kendrick Drake situation,
and Kendrick putting Drake's house on the album cover,
I wonder if people are reporting these stories now
because they know it'll get them engagement.
Because I'm sure people have been creeping up on this guy's property.
That's why you have 24-hour security all the time.
Yes, there's always somebody there.
We see that.
Okay, 2C calls out Shaq.
So, a page on Twitter shared a post of Shaq being spotted in Spain with a 21-year-old woman he was allegedly dating.
And the rapper Toosie shared a post and added his own quick story about Shaq.
He said, one time, this man DMed Samaria and said, let me have that baby.
Talking about my son.
Weird-ass old head.
He also shared a screenshot of the DM Shaq sent to his girlfriend for proof.
The caption that went with that screenshot said, man, I don't know if this how old men flirt or what.
So the photos of Shaq, the one that he saw that made him tweet this about his baby mother.
I mean, his girlfriend, his baby mother, whatever.
They turned out to be old.
It wasn't just resurfaced.
So and the girl wasn't 21.
She was 27.
This happened back in 2019.
And it just resurfaced.
He wasn't recently on a beach with a 21 year old.
So Tusi also came back and cleared up that he misunderstood.
Is your country falling apart?
Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary?
Consider this.
Start your own country.
I planted the flag.
I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine.
I own this.
It's surprisingly easy.
There are 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete.
Everybody's doing it.
I am King Ernest Emmanuel.
I am the Queen of Laudonia.
I'm Jackson I, King of Kaperburg.
I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia.
Be part of a great colonial tradition.
The Waikana tribe own country.
My forefathers did that themselves.
What could go wrong?
No country willingly gives up their territory.
I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead.
Oh my God.
What is that?
Bullets.
Bullets.
We need help!
We still have the off-road portion to go.
Listen to Escape from Zakistan.
And we're losing daylight fast.
That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, guys.
I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series,
The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more.
After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast, Post Run High, is all
about. It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together.

Hi, I'm Marie.
And I'm Sydney.
And we're Mess.
Well, not a mess, but on our podcast called Mess, we celebrate all things messy.
But the gag is, not everything is a mess. Sometimes it's
just living. Yeah, things
like J-Lo on her third divorce.
Living. Girls trip to Miami.
Mess.
Ozempic. Messy, skinny
living.
Restaurant stealing a birthday cake.
Mess. Wait, what flavor was the cake
though? Okay, that's a good question.
Hooking up with someone in accounting and then getting a promotion.
Living.
Breaking up with your girlfriend while on Instagram Live.
Living.
It's kind of mess.
Yeah.
Well, you get it.
Got it?
Live, love, mess.
Listen to Mess with Sydney Washington and Marie Faustin on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

so apparently i guess what he was saying was he wanted my girl which like if i would have read it
like that i never would have posted it because i mean it's good dm your girl trying to but you
don't got no business trying to f**k my girl. Femme like seven foot.
My girl like five foot two.
You're not finna f**k my girl and be spinning her on your f**king finger like a fidget spinner.
F**k did you talk about?
Hell nah.
But yeah though, if I would've knew that, I never would've even posted it.
But I thought he was talking about something about my son.
I just think, can I have that baby?
No comma.
Just because he's seven two don't mean that he got, you know, a seven two penis stay out that girl phone like that's just what it is we just get out the girl phone now
if she dare respond then okay you i could see why you would have animosity toward both of them all
right but he's not with her anymore though that's his ex what do you see i thought i thought that
was his ex girl but that's not what he was upset about. He was upset because he thought Shaq wanted a baby.
He thought he had something about the son.
Correct.
Shaq didn't use no commas, so he just said, let me have that baby.
Yeah.
You know Shaq got that money.
I'll pay top dollar for that baby.
Can I give you a whole Papa John's franchise for that baby?
He is not trying to buy nobody a baby, yo.
It looked like in the comments, though.
I understand why Tootsie was concerned, because Shaq got the money to buy a baby.
Yeah, yes, he did.
Shaq ain't buying no babies.
Shaq got his own babies, man.
But I'm just saying, like, yeah, he not about the extra.
Y'all got to think about, like, older men,
some men do fuck like that.
Let me hear that, baby.
Like, but he's saying, like, he should have put a comma after that.
He should have put a comma, yes.
But also, Tootsie, like, come on.
You should have been said this.
Like, I don't think it should have even went online.
By the way, is this a thing on social media?
Are people slandering Shaq because he's 50-something and was dating a 21-year-old?
Was that a thing?
They were trying to make it a thing, but she's not 21.
This was just an old picture.
The girl was 27, and this happened back in 2019.
It just resurfaced in the caption.
It was a lie.
She wasn't 21.
Gotcha.
Yeah, so it was proven to be fake
shortly after that that's why 2c did retract the statement which was mature of him but i thought it
was just crazy that he even went on a little rant about that but that's not the only reason why i
shared this i don't know okay i try to take your baby somebody somebody try to purchase your baby
i'm i get it jackie purchasing no damn baby I understand why you felt the way you felt okay
that's cute all right so T Grizzly and Future collab earlier this week I reported about
speculation um between Future and Gunna they was throwing subs to each other um Future had
tweeted F your album yeah it's Shane slapping like my mixtape people assumed that the tweet
was aimed at Gunna because he was expected
to drop his album
One of One
which he dropped
today
and
it was not a mixtape
he actually
dropped
Future dropped
a song
it's a single
with T Grizzly
and he was just
quoting lyrics
from the song
but people took the bait
I mean cause I guess
with all this beef
going on
and surrounding
everything
they just took that.
But he was literally just quoting his lyrics.
I wonder if Gunna really took that as he was talking to him, too.
I don't know.
I tried to listen to all that music this morning.
I tried to listen to Gunna's album, and I tried to listen to Future Single.
They don't make morning music, yo.
That ain't what I want to hear first thing in the morning.
I'm not going to wake up and pray and set my intention and read my daily affirmations.
That ain't what I want to ride into.
I got to ride into
Sarah J. Roberts
or something like that.
And not even snooze.
I'd rather listen to
some inspirational podcast.
I got to get high
and listen to that
later on tonight.
That's right.
On a Friday
after Bill Maher go off.
I know, that's right.
Yeah.
Don't be jealous.
Pregnant.
It's all right.
Okay.
Yes.
I shall indulge.
I'm grown.
All right. It's for my anxiety. Well, that is Jess with The Mess. Yes. I shall indulge. I'm grown. All right.
It's for my anxiety.
Well, that is just with the mess.
Yes.
Now, when we come back, we got front page news.
Could you imagine going to a restaurant and you leaving your credit card at the restaurant, right?
And they try to give you your credit card back.
But what they do is they post a picture of your credit card on their Facebook.
Salute to all the Nigerians out there.
Salute to all the ladies in Miami.
We respect you.
We know what's happening.
We know what's going on.
Hey, and salute to my guy, T.I., too, man.
He's got a new record featuring NBA young boy called Long Live O.G. Clay.
It's a dedication to the good brother, Clay Evans.
We're about to get that on right now, too.
Let's get into it.
Front page news is next.
You're checking out The Breakfast Club.
All right.
Only two options.
Get old or die uh get old to die
young that was ti featuring be a young boy yeah called long live og clay dedicated to the good
brother clay evans man rest in peace clay always all right well let's get in some front page news
last night the calves beat the celtics 118 94 the mavericks beat the thunder 119
110 both of those series are tied at one.
Now let's talk about this woman that was at a restaurant and she left a credit card like some of us do sometimes.
But the restaurant made a mistake and they posted it on Facebook to try to give this lady back her credit card.
That was not a mistake.
I didn't make a mistake.
Well, you know what happens after that.
Rhonda Deavers is a regular at smith's cafe in
kinston last week she accidentally left her credit card behind after paying i turned around and came
right back attempting to find her an employee of the cafe took photos of the card front and back
then posted them to a kinston facebook group. I couldn't believe that they did that,
but I was sick thinking that I might be responsible for all those charges.
While we blocked out the credit card numbers,
Rhonda said Smith's Cafe forgot in their initial post.
Rhonda says her family immediately called her, but it was too late.
It had been used a whole lot, a whole lot of declines,
but a whole lot that went through.
Over $2,000 of charges hit her account.
That's it?
I live on a fixed income, and there's not like there's extra money every month to cover those bills that somebody else charged on my card.
Whoever posted that to Facebook don't got no Nigerian followers.
They don't got no city girls
that follow them from miami okay only two thousand dollars in charges but she said she was on a fixed
income she probably didn't have that much yeah but i'm just saying they probably maxed it out
they at least try though well she said there was a lot of you can't go over you can't go over
she said it was a lot of declines i want to know how much it wasn't declines that's what i want to
know that's too good to be true, though.
That's sad, though.
Imagine you're on Facebook, you're in Nigeria, and you're just scouring the internet.
You know what I'm saying?
You're a city girl in Miami, just scouring the internet, and a credit card just pop up.
You got to know that might be the feds or something.
But that person who posted it is like, what?
Like, you didn't have common sense to think not to post somebody's credit card?
Not at all.
What is common sense?
Not at all.
What do you mean? It's 2024, Jeff.
Not to post somebody's credit card. what is common sense not at all it's 2024 not to post somebody's credit
card what is common sense common sense is it yeah it is oh no people can't change the meaning of
common sense people cannot have it that's right right you can't just change the meaning people
don't be having it i don't think they ever did though but they really don't got it now
well there's a a new cereal uh well it's a parody of a
cereal advertisement it's called eat monkeys jump like monkeys monkey premium cereal and it has
lebron james on the cover oh my god yes now uh this was uh done by a new hartford central school
district student in new york and then it was showed off in a school gymnasium at the New Hartford Festival of the Arts event on Saturday. So now they're trying
to figure out how it was on display, who put it on display and how could somebody actually
make this cereal. What was supposed to be a celebration of art at New Hartford Senior High
School has now turned into a controversy and has the district taking action. The superintendent of
New Hartford Central School District sent an email to the school community
about racist artwork that was on display at the district-wide art show on Saturday.
Cosimo Tangora says the art had racist imagery and text.
He says it's disheartening that racist work was not only created,
but then overlooked and allowed to be displayed.
He says in part, quote, the student involved has been contacted, but due to student privacy,
we cannot divulge specific details regarding the student and whether or not there were disciplinary consequences in accordance with the code of conduct.
Administrators have also spoken with staff members responsible for the oversight of the artwork.
And we are using this
as a teachable moment end quote he said what is it eat like monkeys jump like monkeys yeah
eat like monkeys jump like monkeys with lebron james on the box damn donkey damn they ain't
even try to be creative with it or nothing like because i didn't even think i didn't know it was
a box of cereal i just thought it was advertising a box of cereal. I just thought it was an advertisement. A box of cereal. What kind of cereal, though? It was a parody.
A parody of what?
Wheaties?
No, I guess they had these kids making these cereal boxes.
So it looked like a box of monkey cereal.
And they had LeBron James on there dunking.
And it said, eat like monkey, dunk like monkey.
Yeah, they could have got a little more creative.
Like calling honey bunches niggas or something like that.
I think this is young.
I think this is a young kid.
So these are young racists.
Cherry Negroes.
They.
Cherry Negroes?
I'm just saying.
Somebody can't put
his name out there.
Fruity.
Fruity Spooks.
Something.
Just something.
You know what I mean?
Koonflakes.
Something.
All right.
All right.
Don't get no ideas now.
Help him out, Charlamagne.
Help him out.
Next year, they'll be like, Charlamagne said be more creative. I got something for them. I'm just me, don't give me ideas now. Help him out, show them. Yeah, right? Help him out. Next year,
they'll be like,
Charlamagne said,
be more creative.
I got something for them.
I'm just saying,
be more creative.
They didn't even have a name for it.
Just had Braun jumping on the box,
talking about eat like monkeys,
jump like monkeys.
Somebody come out
with some lynchy loops.
Lynchy loops.
Real man.
That's just,
that's what I'm saying,
that's just racist.
Like when you come out
with just him jumping on the box,
eat like monkeys,
jump like monkeys,
be a little creative with it.
It's all racist.
How about not do it at all?
Oh, no, you're right.
I agree with that.
Thank you.
All right.
And that is Front Page News.
Now, when we come back, it's Flashback Friday.
First of all, it ain't no damn Flashback Friday, okay?
Yes, it is.
It is, but these people ain't a flashback.
These people are culture.
They are.
You know, this show, Good Times.
You got the instrumental player?
It's celebrated their 50-year anniversary.
I think it was on February 8, 2024.
Only people I saw paying homage to them was TV One.
Drop on the clues box for TV One.
TV One is the only people I saw celebrating Good Times 50.
And it pisses me off that we got all of these black people
in certain positions
in television
and certain positions in film
and ain't nobody did
a Good Times documentary.
Ain't nobody did
a Good Times reunion.
Ain't nobody did
a Good Times
Where Are They Now?
Well, the Breakfast Club
will celebrate them.
If nobody else
will celebrate them,
we will.
That's right.
Bernadette Stannis
will be joining us.
Thelma.
Ralph Carter.
Michael.
And JJ.
Jimmy JJ Walker.
Don't know why. They will be here this morning right now.
This morning right now.
We'll talk to them when we come back.
So don't move.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
The Breakfast Club.
Good morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
We are The Breakfast Club.
We got some special legends in the building.
Man, come on now.
This is a special one right here.
Legends of the building.
Of course, the cast of Good Times.
50 years of Good Times.
We got Michael Thelma and JJ.
Well, first of all,
Ralph Carter, Bernadette Stainis,
and Jimmy Walker.
That's right.
Good morning, guys.
How y'all feeling?
Good morning, Breakfast Club.
50 years of Good Times?
Wow.
Wow.
I know, wow. Wow. And we're times? Wow. Wow. I know, wow.
Wow.
And we're still going strong.
Yeah.
Did y'all know Good Times was going to make the mark that it made?
Well, I didn't.
Had no idea.
No, we didn't.
But we're very grateful it did.
Yeah.
Well, from the beginning, let's start.
How did it come about?
How did Good Times come about?
How did you guys audition, and how did it make?
Because during that time, there wasn't too many of us on television. So how did it come about? Well... you guys audition and how did it make, because during that time there wasn't too many of us on television.
So, how did it come about?
And he is black.
You know when he say that.
I don't know.
I can tell he's black.
They joke with me all the time, but I'm black.
I don't know Mr. Carter.
Well, it started with me
being in a beauty pageant, you know.
And from there, there was a manager watching me in the beauty pageant and gave my mother a card to say they're looking for a teenager to be in the show and meet Norman Lear at CBS.
You know, so we went up there.
But there were thousands of girls when I opened the door.
So, I mean, but that's how it started with me.
You were a teenager on Good Times?
Yeah.
How old were you?
18.
Oh, okay.
I was about to say.
Lord have mercy.
Okay.
Yeah.
All right.
Okay.
You're still beautiful.
Thank you.
Absolutely.
So, and then, you know, after a couple of months, I thought I didn't get it, you know,
because I didn't hear back from them.
And then I did get the call. My mom got the call that I was Thelma and so they flew me out to California
that's how it happened for me. Wow what about you Mr. Carter? By the time I began to work with
Norman Lear I had been in my sixth Broadway play by that time during my journey with Miss Jane
Murray and also Pat Kirkland these were two wonderful women who I auditioned for when I went there.
However, I literally had the job
before I got the job.
My contract was bought from
The Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry.
We did the adapt version
of the musical play.
By that time, I had won the Tony Award
nomination that year in 74.
However, as a result of that,
Norman would consistently he came
more than twice to see my work and flew my mother and I out to the state of
California I you know I was reluctant because they always said it never rains
in California and I was excited it means for three months when I got
any illusions about Hollywood were always
neutralized as far as I'm concerned.
So I'm very grateful
to have not only worked with
and still love Jimmy Walker and Bernadette,
but we give respect to
the spirit of Miss Esther Rose
and to Jeanne Dubois
and to Johnny Brown who played Bookman
to Helen Martin who played
Weeping Wanda. These are wonderful people that helped us along the way.
Of course, to Mr. Ben Powers as well.
Albert Reed who played the old man.
These are the people who accentuated what we did.
Of course, we're working with the wonderful Debbie Allen
and the work that she contributed to our production.
So we thank you.
What about you, Mr. Walker?
I'm just a hardcore stand-up. That's it. That's all I do. I'm just a stand-up to the production. So we thank you. What about you, Mr. Walker? I'm just a hardcore stand-up.
That's it.
That's all I do.
I'm just a stand-up to the core.
So I went to the comedy store.
I'm doing shows.
I go back to bed
at like 3 o'clock in the morning
and get a call.
J.D. Joe, she says,
where are you?
I said, I'm in my bed, sleeping.
She says,
well, you belong across the street.
We're doing rehearsals.
I said, rehearsal for what she says
there's a show called good times you signed on to the show i had signed on to it at the improv
yeah i because i didn't believe him because he's a liar so i was a verbal contract no they had a
contract kenny the drunk who was a lawyer was at the bar i I said, Kenny, is this any good? He said,
yeah,
I think so.
Sign it.
I'll send it back for you.
And I thought,
I said,
Kenny,
he's a drunk.
He's not going to send it. He's a liar.
He's not going to send it.
So then he sent it back.
So I was on the show.
So I go to the rehearsal
and there's a whole bunch
of people there
at the rehearsal
because I didn't even know
we had a script
because they said
there's a script downstairs.
I said, I'm going back to bed because I'm not going downstairs to get a script cuz they're lying. I don't have time
But you did I saw when I got the script
And I'm reading the script and I said a guy next to me like you normally I said man this sucks. What is this?
I said I said we're gonna do a TV show. I said really I said you're a liar. It's not gonna happen
This is terrible from then on we did the show. I said, really? I said, you're a liar. It's not going to happen.
This is terrible.
From then on, we did the show, and I was always throwing stuff in, and people got upset.
So when did you stop thinking people were liars?
Never.
I think it now.
People, I mean, agents are liars.
They're all liars.
No, very few people, people want to be bigger than what they are.
And the big people, you never meet them.
They're in the big glass
tower upstairs on the 90th floor so that you know even if like bernie ellen tell you even i mean
me the girl said give me your number i know she's lying because she's not going to give you the
number and then with the horrible things with the cell phones they don't answer you text them
you email them.
They sit in their room and they sit with their girlfriends and they
start laughing. They go,
this moron I met at Walmart.
He asked for my number.
I was busy. I gave him my number
because I know I'm never going to talk to him.
My answer is emails ever again.
He did get lucky this week.
Once in a while, somebody will come through but very very rarely and the girl the girl will be nice and some girls will go some girls will go
and i learned this from a friend of mine who happens to be a girl, and she said a very interesting thing.
She said, you know, if you want to get rid of a guy and he asks you to go out,
say, you know, like if she's a girl, I ask you to go out.
So I say, hey, Jess, you know, why don't we, you know, go to the Four Caesars and have dinner?
That's what they do.
They go,
are you serious?
Really?
But you got lucky this week.
No,
it wasn't lucky yet,
but it was a girl
that showed promise.
Oh,
she answered.
She answered
and I was like,
really?
Sometimes,
sometimes you're so stunned.
And then one called you.
One did call back.
I was,
I was stunned. How many times do you. One did call back. I was stunned.
How many times do you give your number out to these women?
All the time.
I'm available.
Anybody.
But see, they... And I've said to girls,
Hey, let's go on a cruise together.
And they just go...
What age are these women at your house?
They just go...
What age are they?
They're adults.
They're adults.
They just start laughing.
They just go,
You know, I hear my toast popping up.
I have to go.
No.
So there's no honest woman.
And then the phrase I always hate to hear
You know, I'm a single mom
And you just go, okay, okay
I got it
I can't be worried about that
Or, you know what happened
We didn't do no love connection
With Mr. Jimmy walking out
We didn't talk about good times
Go ahead, talk about the shit
That's how he got
It started from how he got good times.
That's what I just said.
But I've never
auditioned for any show.
Ever. I've never auditioned for a show.
I tolerate him.
I've never auditioned.
I never tried out.
I tolerate him.
Just like I'm doing now.
They never asked me. Because this. Just like I'm doing now. Just like I'm doing now.
I know he mushy.
He got a harder goal.
I do know that.
You let people just see my acting.
They go, let's hire this guy.
And we know how to do that too.
We let him go.
Oh, that's amazing.
All right. We got more with the cast of Good Times.
Ralph Carter, Bernadette Stannis, and Jimmy Walker.
When we come back, it's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy
Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are
the Breakfast Club on this Flashback Friday.
We're still kicking it with the cast of Good
Times. Ralph Carter, Bernadette
Dennis, and Jimmy Walker. Charlamagne?
How much of y'all
real lives did you implement in
these characters? You know, especially
you, Mr. Carter, because
Michael was like one of the most pro-black figures that early on we ever saw.
Well, I'm originally from Brooklyn.
Bernadette and I are both from Brownsville.
Give a shout out to Brownsville.
Grafton Street between Dumont and Blake.
That's where I used to live when I was growing up in the heart of Brooklyn.
However, my point is that by virtue of the fact that I grew up in an African-American church,
one of the most memorable productions we ever did on.
Is your country falling apart?
Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary?
Consider this. Start your own country.
I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this.
It's surprisingly easy.
55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete.
Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I's 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's
doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of
Kaperburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial
tradition. The Waikana tried my country. My forefathers did that themselves. What could go
wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black
powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets.
We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're
losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan-Stan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
you get your podcasts. Hey guys, I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series,
The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more.
After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast, Post Run High, is all about.
It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories,
their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together.
You know that rush of endorphins you feel after a great workout?
Well, that's when the real magic happens.
So if you love hearing real, inspiring stories from the people you know, follow, and admire,
join me every week for Post Run High.
It's where we take the conversation beyond the run and get into the heart of it all.
It's lighthearted, pretty crazy, and very fun.
Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You heard that right. A podcast for all ages. One you can listen to and enjoy with your kids starting on September 27th.
I'm going to toss it over to the host of Historical Records, Nimany, to tell you all about it.
Make sure you check it out.
Hey, y'all. Nimany here.
I'm the host of a brand new history podcast for kids and families called Historical Records.
Historical Records brings history to life through hip hop.
Flash, slam, another one gone.
Bash, bam, another one gone.
The crack of the bat and another one gone.
The tip of the cap, there's another one gone.
Each episode is about a different,
inspiring figure from history,
like this one about Claudette Colvin,
a 15-year-old girl in Alabama

Jenny Garth, Jana Kramer, Amy Robach, and TJ Holmes bring you I Do Part 2,
a one-of-a-kind experiment in podcasting to help you find love again.
If you didn't get it right the first time, it's time to try, try again,
as they guide you through this podcast experiment in dating.
Hey, I'm Jana Kramer.
As they say, those that cannot do, teach.
Actually, I think I finally got it right, so take the failures I've had.
The second or even third or whatever,
maybe the fourth time around. I'm Jenny Garth. 29 years ago, Kelly Taylor said these words,
I choose me. She made her choice. She chose herself. When it comes to love, choose you first.
Hi, everyone. I'm Amy Robach. And I'm TJ Holmes. And we are, well, not necessarily relationship experts. If you're ready to dive back into the dating pool and find lasting love, finally, we want to help.
Listen to I Do Part 2 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts.
Mess.
Ozempic.
Messy, skinny living.
Restaurant stealing a birthday cake.
Mess.
Wait, what flavor was the cake though?
Okay, that's a good question.
Hooking up with someone in accounting and then getting a promotion.
Living.
Breaking up with your girlfriend while on Instagram Live.
Living. Living.
It's kind of mess.
Yeah.
Well, you get it.
Got it?
Live, love, mess.

Good times when we had the black Jesus.
However, what happened in my case is that I physically grew up with like the wonderful images in this fantastic sound room.
I grew up with people who look like in this fantastic sound room that i grew up with
people who look like that on the walls of my church so it was almost um a form of symbiosis
when the good times parallel came up with how i was able to see that but due to the fact that we
able to locate in the verses of the bible the example that is used, hair, wool, skin, or bronze.
They didn't like me in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
You know, I was a kid, but I got some unkind mail.
But I was absolved from all of that by just taking myself to another level and not deal with the riffraff.
How much of Thelma was you, Ms. Bernadette?
Oh, with me, a lot of my character was, you know, the way I was.
I grew up in a family of five children.
You know, I'm the eldest, and a mom and a dad.
And so, you know, my father would always say, even though I was in the projects,
he would always say, what's around you does not have to be in you.
And that's kind of how we were.
I knew my character, and that young girls in the projects do grow up to be become someone you know i strive to
be the good girl you know and you know the positive person so very much so the character
was very much like who i was then but benedict consistently has always has high standards
and she has never belittled herself in that context what about you mr walker how much are
you with jj well you gotta remember i'm a
comic so we we just we just sit around and all we do is jokes that's it it's just jokes every day
every hour every battle every whatever that's all we do and at that time johnny carson was it so our
main goal in life was to get on the Johnny Carson show because if you get on
the Johnny Carson show, the next day
you can draw. And that's
the key thing. You must be able to draw,
put tushies in the seats. I don't
care how great you think you are,
what you are. It's like now
with Netflix. Your
goal in life, nothing
else counts. Mom,
dad, family, get onflix and take your shot so in terms of
my thing of being on the show i wanted to get on johnny carson i didn't want to do anything else
so you just wrote jokes all day how did you feel when you know uh after rolling and john emos they
said they used to criticize your character saying it was a poor role model for black teenagers back then.
Well, at that time, I was not really aware of it.
You got to remember, we didn't have media like we had now.
And for me, I didn't really.
It's going to sound strange.
I never watched the show.
John is a great actor.
I mean, he's probably one of the best black actors in America, the best actor in general.
I didn't really talk to John, so I didn't really know him.
Esther, I don't think in my humble.
I don't think I've ever.
Bernadette was very close with us.
Very, very, very close.
I don't think I ever said a word to Esther because being in a comedy lineup of like 30 guys and girls to this people, you just you never talk to.
I mean, you know, there's people you just, you never talk to.
I mean, you know,
there's people you talk to all the time and then maybe you may talk to 10 guys all the time
and there's another 10 guys
you never talk to at all.
You don't know them.
You see them and you just,
so I'm used to not mingling with some guys.
That's it.
That's the reality of it all.
What was the most difficult episode to shoot?
For me, it was's the reality of it all what was the most difficult episode to shoot for me it
was actually the contradiction of a character came to the show in the script where it was a
caucasian young woman who i was supposed to have an on-screen kiss with right then and then my
antenna went up because it would destroy everything i had built with that particular character as far
as his pro-pan-africanism is. Dr. Umar would love you for that.
I remember that episode.
Yeah.
So what I did do, I took my grievances to the adults.
Keep in mind, Janet Jackson and I are still minors.
So therefore, any type of script issues that we had,
Jimmy was always and has been my advocate along with Bernadette.
And I brought my issue to them.
And Esther said, this cannot happen. You can't do this but this particular character because it will you
know mostly all of the young young African-American women would have said
well here we go again so I decided to just pull back and it worked out in my
favor and that didn't happen Wow is that the episode that ended up being when
when you were supposed to move in yes okay that's right but they they we had to change that script
because they had an intimate moment which again would have contradicted the the policies and the
integrity of the character that i played absolutely so how was working with janet on the set how was
that for me it was refreshing because for straightening your back out when you said that yeah for many years i was the only child on set therefore um
that type of isolation it didn't affect me because i every time we went on hiatus i always came back
to new york and to brooklyn and i was with my peer group so i fundamentally didn't have an offbeat
energy as whatever a child star means and also I was never financially
exploited by my family that was not my experience in my experience no one ever put an offending hand
on me you know I'm from Brooklyn I jack you up but what I did learn in that process of working
with Janet who was beyond a consummate professional but she's a brilliant observer and she watched because we
spent the most time together y'all and in california state law we have to go to school for
three hours before we can appear on set so our actual working day after the three hours of school
would be a five-hour working day so we had tutors who protected us. My mother, Mrs. Lucille Carter and Mrs. Catherine Jackson, they got along like peas in a pod. And because of the fact that our parents got along, and this would apply to Haywood Nelson and Lawrence Fishburne, myself, our mothers got along. Therefore, we got along too so in that context my job was to because i'm bernadette's bully anybody stepped to her
incorrectly there's going to be an issue and i was able to because of that loneliness jenna was
like a beacon of light when she came on the set and i'm still so proud of what she has done in
the work that she continues to do mr jimmy did you ever ever get tired of saying dynamite at any point i don't
think we ever did it that much yeah no because i you know again being a stand-up people came to
see stand-up you know and and and at the improv or the store or anything like that and again not
i guess we were in such competition and plus we had had Paul Mooney. And Paul Mooney straightened everybody out.
Too black, too strong.
Mooney would just say, man, your stuff is weak.
What are you doing?
You stink.
And I remember we'd have somebody like a Gary Shandling who worked so hard.
I was like, that's what made me get writers to help me out,
because he would have two notebooks full of jokes every day.
And you just go, hey, how's this guy doing this?
So in terms of the dynamite thing, it didn't play in a club.
So for me, the dynamite thing was not relevant to the people
that would come into the show.
And plus, I was the emcee for our ethnic shows.
So we would do the Chicago show.
Chicago show would be the Emotions,
the Shy Lights, Jerry Butler.
So they weren't even for that
because they were kind of like,
hey, I'm Jerry Butler.
I'm the Iceman.
I don't care about any dynamite stuff.
I was always very secondary because I was the youngest guy. I don't care about any dynamite stuff. I was always very
secondary because I was the youngest guy. We had CB Wonder's mom who used to drive
him behind us in her little station wagon. So we never, Jimmy Walker was never
a big thing. He was just a little part of the MC work. That was it.
Alright, we're still kicking it with the cast of Good Times, so don't move. It's The
Breakfast Club. Good morning. Good morning everybody, it's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarion, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We're still kicking it with the cast of Good Times, so don't move. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Good morning, everybody. It's DJ and V, Jess Hilarion, Charlamagne,
the guy we are, the Breakfast Club. We're still kicking
in with the cast of Good Times on this
Flashback Friday. Ralph Carter,
Bernadette Stannis, and Jimmy Walker. Charlamagne?
How do y'all feel about the
Good Times cartoon
on Netflix? Well, that's Bernadette's thing.
She'll tell you.
How do you feel, Ms. Bernadette? Because they keep calling it a reboot, but that's
not a reboot. No, that's not it at reboot. No, that's not it at all.
No, that's not it at all.
I think that our audience missed something.
You know, they missed what happened to us.
It's always they want the completion of it.
It never really happened so far. animation was this that you know i know that jimmy walker came to them and and he presented
um a cartoon about five years before this before this one and it was it was the really the the all
of us the way we are in a in an animation and we have our same voices and everything like that
they didn't bite that but later on came up with um they're going gonna do an animation and I remember my
manager called them and said well what are they gonna are we gonna be in it or
not so the way they described the animation to us was this it was going to
be a modern day you know progression of what everything is going to be for the
good times family you know fine but they asked Jimmy and I to do a tiny little
part but it sounded okay
you know we didn't see the scripts so jimmy did a part i did a little part my character's name is
peaches you know she's like a project lady that's whatever but when the trailer came out we saw it
and everybody was like no you know you don't have a cracked baby in somebody in the mother's arms you
don't do that so and i remember having an interview with
the singer gill strap jim gill strap and he was saying you know there are some lyrics that they
took out so i said what was what were the lyrics and he said well you know they say roaches roaming
the hallway and the landlord lives on the other side of town or something like that he said that
they took it out because 50 years ago now,
they thought that that would be offensive
to black people.
Okay.
But 50 years later,
you have two roaches singing in the shower.
They sing in the song good time.
So I'm like,
this is not it.
You know,
I'm sorry.
You know,
I know people have,
you know,
want to write it out.
They want to do this and that,
but you have to do it right. You know, you have, I know people have, you know, want to write it and they want to do this and that. But you have to do it right.
You know, you have to represent it correctly.
So to me, it was not represented correctly.
And I had to say that, you know.
I haven't watched it.
Mr. Carty?
I actually was quite disappointed with the actors who took the time to sign on to that project.
These are actors and artists and comedians that I really had a high regard for.
I won't use the past tense with them right now,
but I'm disappointed at the fact that they did that.
When I did take a quick review of this particular rubbish that I saw,
I was contacted by some media outlets from my point of view,
but I refused to dignify it with a response,
and I'm just pretty much disappointed with the artist who signed on to it.
I don't think anybody ever saw it.
I mean, I know Seth MacFarlane, to me, is very, very funny.
But this is not his bag.
It would be like saying, hey, we're doing Romeo and Juliet.
You know who we hired?
J.J. Walker and Lawanda Page.
That's funny.
And you go, really?
Wow.
That's great, Jimmy.
That's a good analysis.
I mean, Seth, I love all his stuff.
It's racist.
It's terrible.
It's fantastic.
It kills me.
But it's funny.
Yeah, it's funny.
But he's not right for this.
And Steph Curry, I know he's been watching LeBron James,
and he sees LeBron James has projects.
Look, let me tell you something.
I'm from New York.
I played basketball against Nate Archibald.
You guys are too young to remember Nate Archibald, but he's a big star.
We know Nate Archibald.
I played against Nate Archibald, and he only scored 63 on us three times.
We played them.
He scored 61, 63, and 63.
Look, let me tell you something.
It'd be like me going to Steph and saying, look, I played against Nate Archibald.
I want to be on the Golden State Warriors.
And they go, why?
I played against Nate Archibald.
I belong on the team.
Come on.
But no, he's just the wrong guy to be in this.
Y'all don't like the Good Times reboot.
To say that.
Yeah.
It's crazy.
50 years of Good Times.
I'm shocked like nobody did a documentary or some type of, you know, reunion show.
Like y'all didn't get approached about none of that?
No.
The anthology that I did write, it wouldn't be a product commercially right now again because of the losses that we had um the they but we did
have a movie that we worked that we're gonna put together and we had all the characters it just
didn't they don't they are now ancestors so this is brett miller living who works with norman and
that's the guy who kind of kind of gaboshed us yeah and that that
was it I mean that's the way because when I took it around everybody I talked to says well do you
own the rights and we go no and they said well nothing we could do for you and these are all
friends of mine so that's the way it was I just think that they didn't want us involved and they
achieved their goal yeah hey well we love y' Man, well, we love y'all.
Thank you.
All right, guys.
We celebrate y'all.
Yes.
Absolutely.
Our fans really kept writing us
and telling us how much they loved us
and they didn't like the animation.
You know, they respect us in so many different ways.
So we still got our satisfaction out of it, you know?
Right.
Absolutely.
And when the people don't like it, watch out.
That's right.
Well, we appreciate you guys for joining us. 15 years of good times. The lyrics to the theme song. you know right absolutely and when the people don't like it watch out that's right well we
appreciate you guys for joining us 15 years of good times the lyrics to the theme song y'all
all know that no i don't know it i think ralph knows it keeping your head above water making
away when you can temporary layoffs good times easy credit riffle good time scratching and
surviving good time good times hanging in a child line no oh it's hanging in the child that's how i Easy credit riffle. Good time. Scratching and surviving. Good time. Good times.
Hanging in the child line.
No.
Oh, it's hanging in the child line?
That's how I interpret it.
I have the written lyrics.
I thought it was hanging in the child line.
Yes, it is.
Hanging in the child line.
You have two versions.
Hanging in the child line.
Hanging in the child line, but also I have on document in my archive, hanging in the child line.
Isn't that something?
They said it that way so long ago.
They have both versions of it
However, it really caught on
The way that the wonderful
Jeanne Dubois wrote the soundtrack
For Moving On Up for the Jeffersons
Jeanne Dubois is the writer
And the musician and the vocalist
That sings that song
So that in itself
When you deal with theme songs
When we were coming on
Grace is enough to play it for us
So it was a nice way to walk into
Your sound studio
And we thank you
So the mystery continues
We still don't know if it's hanging in the chat line
It's hanging in the chat line
It's hanging in and jiving
That's what it is
Bernadette and I are going to have this going on for a while
Obviously Jim Gilstrap in and jiving yeah that's what it is bernadette not gonna have this going on for a while jim gill's draft the one who sung it told me he said it was hanging in and jiving hanging in the
job so that's what it was but it came off i don't know if it was the enunciation of it or not but
it came off as hanging in a child line it sounds that way but it really was hanging in and jive
and there's a second verse that people
have never heard that goes to the same song so the information that i do have it has what i'm
saying that's the roaches singing in the shower so you guys have been wonderful i thank you for
thinking enough of us again to your listening, we thank you again for a wonderful 50 years.
May you be blessed by every breath you
breathe and every beat of your heart.
Thank you very much. That's right.
It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Thank you. Let's get right to
Jess with the mess. Let's go.
Jessica Robin Moore.
Jess don't do no lying.
She don't spare nobody.
She don't spare nobody.
Worldwide Jess. Worldwide Jets.
Worldwide Mets.
On The Breakfast Club.
She's a coach of shit.
She was able to get y'all to see something and understand something that nobody could get you to see.
It's time to settle it all.
You are so right, Monique.
You are so right.
Okay.
Beef between Shaq and Shannon Sharpe. So Shaq was on Inside the NBA with Nikolai Jokic.
Is that right?
Because them basketball players got some names, boy.
Okay, he told Jokic that he doesn't believe that he should have been named MVP of the league.
Joker, as the president of the Big Man Alliance, you are the vice president of the Big Man Alliance.
You know I love you.
You're the best player in the league.
I want to congratulate you, but I want you to hear it from me first.
I thought the SGA should have been the MVP.
That's no disrespect to you, but congratulations.
And what do you guys have to do to get back on track versus Minnesota?
Thank you, Shaq.
We don't judge people here, so that's fine.
It's your opinion.
I'm joking.
Damn, that was a Kanye moment.
But Shaq has always been consistent in that.
I remember when Shaq was, I think it was,
somebody had won the MVP back in the day.
I forgot who won it, but he was saying back then,
like, that person shouldn't have won it.
So he's always been consistent with that, even when he was a player.
But not only that, you got to respect it,
because he has a show where he talks about it,
and he said he felt that Joker didn't deserve it.
So it's hard to have somebody online and say congratulations
and not say what you've been saying and that's what he did yeah you have
to if you've been saying it about a person you guys to them i'm just looking at it as a woman
like listen these baseball players got to have the thickest skin of them all because to tell me
um yeah i don't believe that you should have got it um but congratulations yeah i won anyway so you
know right respect to you shaq but you know people voted. Respect to you, Shaq. But, you know, people voted for me.
So that's what it is.
I feel you.
Following the interview, Shannon Sharp gave his thoughts on the situation.
Shaq should have five MVP.
He sees a guy like Nicole Yoke.
That's not as dominant as him and gets three and four years.
But see, when you historically great, they talk about you as great basketball player.
The GOAT and Shaq is never brought up.
And I think a part of him is envious of that.
It's hard for me to put somebody in the GOAT conversation with one MVP.
Regular season.
It's hard, Gil.
So we're going to take somebody with one regular season MVP and put him in front of people that got three, that got four, that got five.
If Shaq would have had, if he had my work ethic, he have forty thousand points mmm okay it's too heavily opinionated men so after that
Shaq shared a post to his IG the post is a screenshot of a stat showing Shannon
Sharp being listed as number 51 on an NFL 100 greatest players list right and
he captioned it you took me sticking up for SGA as jealousy of Joker shows
how smart you are and how you say anything for clicks so here's some clickbait for you if you
ain't ranked in the top 10 in your profession then you can't speak on me don't forget I know what you
did to get where you at me jealous sounds like you jealous I know you're trying to stay relevant by
gossiping on your podcast we don't believe you you need more people and in case you forgot four rings three finals mvp top 50 and top 75 google me and to be
quite frank all this new success you got you still under me you don't know my work ethic but according
to you i work less but i'm worth more than you make it make sense i love you too if you need
help making money is better ways than gossiping i'm too old for this ish. Love always the most dominant big man ever who who never took it serious.
Remember, I don't know you.
And in the words of Skip Bayless, I'm better than you.
G14 classification.
I have it.
You don't.
Not in my profession.
And your goat debate.
I never wanted to be the goat.
I wanted to be who you should greet me as the most dominant ever.
The apex predator.
Is your country falling apart?
Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary?
Consider this.
Start your own country.
I planted the flag.
I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine.
I own this.
It's surprisingly easy.
There's 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete.
Everybody's doing it.
I am King Ernest Emmanuel.
I am the Queen of Laudonia.
I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg.
I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia.
Be part of a great colonial tradition.
The Waikana tried my country.
My forefathers did that themselves.
What could go wrong?
No country willingly gives up their territory.
I was making a rocket with a black powder,
you know, with explosive warhead.

So y'all, this is Questlove, and I'm here to tell you about a new podcast I've been working on with the Story Pirates and John Glickman called Historical Records. It's a family-friendly
podcast. Yeah, you heard that right. A podcast for all ages. One you can listen to and enjoy
with your kids starting on September 27th. I'm going to toss it over to the host of Historical Records, Nemany, to tell you all about it.
Make sure you check it out.
Hey, y'all. Nemany here.
I'm the host of a brand new history podcast for kids and families called Historical Records.
Historical Records brings history to life through hip-hop.
Each episode is about a different inspiring figure from history.
Like this one about Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old girl in Alabama who refused to give up her seat on the city bus nine whole months before Rosa Parks did the same thing. Check it. Get the kids in your life excited about history by tuning
in to Historical Records because in order to make history you have to make some
noise. Listen to Historical Records on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcasts. Jenny Garth, Jana Kramer, Amy Robach and TJ Holmes bring you I Do Part Two,
a one-of-a-kind experiment in podcasting to help you find love again.
If you didn't get it right the first time, it's time to try, try again as they guide
you through this podcast experiment in dating.
Hey, I'm Jana Kramer.
As they say, those that cannot do teach.
Actually, I think I finally got it right.
So take the failures I've had the second or even third or whatever, maybe the fourth time
around.
I'm Jenny Garth.
29 years ago, Kelly Taylor said these words,
I choose me.
She made her choice.
She chose herself.
When it comes to love, choose you first.
Hi, everyone.
I'm Amy Robach.
And I'm TJ Holmes.
And we are, well, not necessarily relationship experts.
If you're ready to dive back into the dating pool and find lasting love, finally,
we want to help. Listen to I Do Part 2 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you listen to podcasts. And we're mess. Well, not a mess, but on our podcast called Mess, we celebrate all things messy.
But the gag is not everything is a mess.
Sometimes it's just living.
Yeah, things like J-Lo on her third divorce.
Living.
Girls trip to Miami.
Mess.
Living.
It's kind of mess.
Yeah.
Well, you get it.
Got it?
Live, love, mess.
Listen to Mess with Sydney Washington and Marie Faustin on iHeustin on iheart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast
then he added shannon sharp out in the comments as well and shannon sharp responded again
on nightcap i've never professed that i was as great as shack but what i will say i got what i
got because i worked my ass off now shack has been the one to say that he didn't work as hard.
He didn't train as hard.
He didn't eat as well as he should have.
Am I the equivalent as a football player as Shaq was as a basketball player?
No.
But what I did do is that I maximized that.
And my question, if Shaq, do you believe that you gave everything you possibly could in basketball?
Did you train the way you should have? Did you train the way you should have?
Did you eat the way you should have?
Think about it, Ocho.
He's the most dominant big man in the history of the game.
I know that much, yes.
And he got one MVP.
This conversation is just happening because people have platforms to be able to talk.
Because Shannon Sharp is one of the greatest tight ends of all time.
And Shaquille O'Neal is one of the greatest and the most dominant center of all time.
All of this hypothetical coulda, shoulda, woulda, if you woulda, it is what it is.
But even without, I guess, doing all of that, Shaq still is considered the most dominant
center of all time.
Absolutely.
He's one of the best players.
What's the point of putting a but on anything and trying to say, but if he woulda did this,
he woulda did that?
Who cares?
But I will say this. Most of the NBA players back then i don't think took it as
serious i mean we've heard conversations that ai talk about uh going out to the club the night
before being drunk and still dropping 40 we tear conversations of nba players not wanting to go to
practice leaving practice early so we hear stories of that from before and just imagine if they did
eat the right way or if they did the lebrron regimen where they took care of the bodies or the Floyd Mayweather regimen where they were, you know, fully, fully, fully in.
These players would have probably been dropping 60 a game back then.
Yeah. And Shaq also, when they say Shaq's not mentioned as one of the goats.
He is. He is. But it's just I want to say discrimination or prejudice against.
But they don't put big men in those conversations for some reason.
You don't ever see big men in those conversations.
Why? I do not know.
But it's just usually not.
They put Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in that conversation.
No, they don't.
They do.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the number one NBA scorer for years,
and nobody said, oh, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the greatest.
It's always Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, the Magic Johnsons.
Like, they don't put big men in those conversations.
Older individuals did.
That wasn't our generation.
We didn't see Wilt Chamberlain or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar really play as a young one.
We started from Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewan and those individuals.
Yeah, I still don't see them put the big men in those conversations like they should.
Well, what's left in Just With The Mess is Jess Lurie
will be joining
Martin Lawrence on tour.
Ay!
Yes, yes.
And we have a ticket giveaway
in the 9 a.m. hour.

Oh, good.
It's next year.
So the baby will be here.
Very much.
Yes, yes, yes.
I'm sitting there thinking
like you're going to be
seven, eight months pregnant
or something.
When is this happening?
No, I know.
It still starts before then. But I'm on a couple of his dates. And yes, yes. I'm sitting there thinking, like, you're going to be seven, eight months pregnant or something? When is this happening? No, I know. It's two and starts before then.
But I'm on a couple of his dates.
And, yes, this is after I have the baby.
So, pre-sale for tickets starts Tuesday, May 14th.

but for whatever reason
I said it
but I saw Martin Lawrence
in a suit
given that I have
a dream speech
but that is I think I think that is Martin Luther King yeah I think it, but I saw Martin Lawrence in a suit giving the I Have a Dream speech. But that is.
I think that is Martin Lawrence King weekend.
Okay.
Martin Lawrence King weekend.
Martin Lawrence King weekend.
That's just a dimension.
Who you giving that donkey to?
Man, I need Ann Cota and Vivek Ramaswamy
to come to the front of the congregation.
We'd like to have an award with both of they crazy asses.
All right, we'll get to that next.
Don't move.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning. You're checking out the breakfast club this is a
miracle there is no question that there are problems in this country between police and
community yes you are a donkey the latest on that police killing of a black man now to new
developments in the deadly spa shooting rampage.
It was a really bad day for him and this is what he did.
And so we are in
a state of emergency.
White supremacy and violence
always have been the number one
threat to our society.
But I'm also very proud that my wife is white.
To the breakfast club, bitches!
Alright, Charmaine, please tell me
why was I your donkey of the day yeah
it's donkey of the day for friday may 10th goes to ann kota and vavik vavik ramaswamy okay i'm
gonna be honest with you i'm just putting in uh ann kota in this because it's objectively the
right thing to do because what she did was stupid but there's a part of me that respects it why is
that why did i respect it because i respect honesty okay we live in a world where everyday people wake up and they lie to themselves and then they project those
lies on the other people and one of the main things we lie about is how we feel okay nobody
is honest about their prejudices nobody is honest about their biases simply because they don't want
to deal with the consequences of their prejudices and biases well and kotha don't give a damn about
none of that okay she was on a podcast with Vivek Ramaswamy,
and they were speaking about nationalism
and the basis of American identity.
And she straight up told Vivek
she would not back him for the GOP nomination,
or she didn't back him for the GOP nomination,
because he's an Indian.
I can't make this kind of stuff up.
Let's listen.
Oh, and I agreed with many, many things you said during,
in fact, probably more than most other candidates when you were running for president.
But I still would not have voted for you because you're an Indian.
What?
What?
Play it one more time for me, Ray.
Play it.
It tickles me.
Oh, and I agreed with many, many things you said during, in fact, probably more than most other candidates when you were running for president.
But I still would not have voted for you because you're an Indian.
Jesus.
I love when they say the quiet part out loud.
Play the second part for me, Ray.
She continued.
She had more to it.
There is a core national identity that is the identity of the WASP.
And that doesn't mean we can't take anyone else in, a Sri Lankan or a Japanese or an Indian.
But the core around which the nation's values are formed is the WASP.
We've never had a president who didn't have at least partial english ancestry damn we'll take
y'all in but y'all ain't gonna lead okay white anglo-saxon protestant that's what they want
get honest and die lying we don't got time for no small talk no need for me to act like it's
your proposed policies and coach said i agree with many things you said during your presidential run
she said in fact most things but f all i i'm not voting for you
because you're indian i need a white anglo-saxon protestant to represent me and rep your set i'm
not mad at it no need to be mad at it when people show you who they are believe them i believe you
and always have just don't be mad when you see me out here representing mine don't be mad when you
see me out here rooting for everybody black don't be mad when you see me out here hiring black people for any open position i got you can call it racism i'll call it preference
now the reason i have to give a vague donkey of the day as well is because when he was on the
breakfast club earlier this year i asked him does he believe the gop would ever vote for an indian
like himself or nicky haley we all know the answer to this by the way and i believe he does too he
just has the audacity of hope let's listen to to the question and answer. Do you think a person of color could
ever be the GOP nominee? Yes, absolutely. Because I read an article in The Nation that said you and
Nikki Haley can't escape GOP racism. And the article says you two are boxed in by the bigotry
that you deny exists. What do you think of that probably the bigger obstacle was for me it wasn't skin color and i still don't think it's a irresolvable obstacle but it was
religion i'm hindu and you know i think the easy thing you're supposed to do as a politician
is even if you're not claimed to be christian check the box maybe shorten your name a little
bit make it easier to pronounce so you think religion is the reason the gop no no not at all
not at all but i'm saying that if i had to pick even between the two factors it's not even
race no bevake it's all of it okay it's your skin color it's your religion she told you right there
she couldn't vote for you because you're indian and she wanted a white anglo-saxon anglo-saxon
protestant for president okay these people are who they are and I'm not mad at them.
I just find it hilarious that people of color like Vivek Ramaswamy think these folks aren't who we know them to be.
Vivek, remember when that conservative website Babylon Bee was accused of racism because they said that Donald Trump promised you a cabinet position running the White House 7-Eleven convenience store?
That is how they think of you okay every
indian stereotype you can think of from 7-eleven to how you smell has probably been said about you
or to you but you have to eat it because you are hell bent on being a part of that good old boy
club okay i've heard bavik say don't call him indian american because he's an american first
okay not to them bavik not to them, Vivek, not to them.
I understand you say, hey, I'm proud of my Indian heritage, but you will still be quick to say I'm American first.
When asked by voters about your Hindu faith, you will be quick to emphasize it.
It allows you to hold Judeo Christian values.
See, when you ran for president, you had to appeal to a Republican electorate that was heavily white and Christian.
I get it. You was trying to win votes.
But just because you're lying to them,
doesn't mean you have to lie for them.
They are who they are and they will never,
at least not in our lifetime,
be able to see who you are because they will be too focused on what you are.
Yes,
you will always be boxed in by the bigotry that you deny exists do you see it yet
please give ann kota and bevake rama swami the biggest hee haw
rep your set fool
yeah all right well thank you for that donkey today, sir. Yes, indeed.
Now, when we come back, Andra Day will be joining us.
Okay.
You know, she's a singer, songwriter, and actress. She played Billie Holiday.
That's right.
Yes.
Mm-hmm.
And we're going to kick it with her next.
She got an album out today.
Yep.
She has an album out project out today.
Cassandra.
That's right.
And we're going to talk to her next.
So don't move.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. that's right. And we're going to talk to her next. So don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, Charlamagne Tha God.
We are The Breakfast Club.
We got a special guest in the building this morning.
Andra Day, welcome.
How are you?
Good morning.
I'm so good.
I'm good.
I'm blessed.
Thank you.
Thank you.
New album, Cassandra.
Yes.
How are you feeling?
I'm good.
I'm excited about it.
I think, I mean, it comes with like the same nerves, you know, that a lot of things come with.
Because I had a heavier hand in producing this record, you know.
I just, I wanted to kind of guide the creative direction a little bit more.
But I'm excited about it.
It feels like the name was appropriate.
You know what I mean?
I feel like I've been multiple people in the last few years because of a lot of different things.
So it felt appropriate.
I'm excited.
I'm definitely excited, yeah.
And Cassandra's your real name.
Yeah.
So is this album about you?
Like how personal do you get?
It is.
It's about me.
It's also me kind of like showing up.
It's me forgiving myself,
I think in a way that I've not before, you know?
And going through like, you know,
love and love lost, you know? I think that like I said I feel like I've been a lot of different versions of me the movies had a
lot to do with that as well to relationships you know I have a lot to do with that and so I feel
like I'm always trying to figure out how to show up the right way you know to show up like oh take
the high road it's on this album good luck we're take the high road so on this album good luck right yeah exactly
so on this album
I was like
nah
you know like for me
this record
usually I'm like
it's okay
try to be accountable
and figure it out
on this record
there's a lot of like
nah it's your fault
you eat that
you know what I mean
so I don't know
I'm just being very forgiving
with myself in this record
what do you mean forgiving
allowing myself to feel
often times
if I'm frustrated or I'm angry or i'm hurt or i'm
disappointed by something or a broken heart or whatever it is or just i'm not getting along with
people i'm always trying to figure out well you must have done something right you're the common
denominator you know like i kind of have this fear of not seeing myself you know what i'm saying
because like and so i'm always trying to figure out you know okay what did you do how did you contribute to that how did you and so i think for the first time i'm like yo to figure out, you know, OK, what did you do? How did you contribute to that?
How did you?
And so I think for the first time, I'm like, oh, it's OK.
Like you're you don't like this person.
You know what I'm saying?
You don't like what it is.
They bring it to the table.
This did not work out.
You're mad at them.
You're hurt.
You know, and like it's OK to express that.
So I've actually struggled with that probably for most of my life.
You know, I think one of the biggest issues is uh if you keep attracting i
guess up people you start looking inward to see what is it about you that keeps attracting these
type of right people right which i think is like i don't know that that's fully unhealthy right
because you do want to figure out like what is the thing you know what i'm saying that's like
drawing this type of person to me but what i don't want to do is take on their things anymore
you know what i'm saying that's the thing i'm always trying to it's okay it's okay now i'm
just like it's not okay i was gonna say how many after people have there been that like
doesn't seem like it's just been one it seems like it's been numerous um i mean i could be
the common denominator you might just have a big heart yeah yeah yeah for sure but you know and
that's that's why i say i'm like i mean it's not like it's been i have a big heart. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. But, you know, and that's why I say I'm like, I mean, it's not like it's been.
I have a lot of really good people in my life, too.
You know what I mean?
But, yeah, it's kind of that imposter syndrome thing, I think, a little bit.
So, yeah, I have good people in my life, but, yeah.
And it's been nine years?
Nine years since the last record.
What the hell?
Because I didn't plan.
Okay, okay, I didn't plan that.
You know, I was like, it's funny because they asked me i remember in
the beginning when i first signed to the label they were like whose career do you want to emulate
you know they asked you like weird questions i didn't know i actually said i was like oh you
know i think i i just was people that i love i actually said shawday and they were like you
know she only releases albums like every like nine years. I was like,
I'm gonna release more albums.
I'll do like every two to three years.
So it just ended up
working out like that
because of the movies
and because of like,
you know what I'm saying?
This,
I'm slow burn.
You know what I'm saying?
Like I'm really detail oriented.
I can procrastinate
because I can be a perfectionist.
I was like,
you know,
all those things.
Yeah.
And all that is fine.
You have a record,
Empty.
Yeah.
Right.
And you say, I'm running on empty. I can't give love until my cup is full. Until my that is fine. You have a record of empty, right? And you say, I'm running on empty.
I can't give love until my cup is full.
Break that down.
Does that speak to what you were just saying?
Yeah, absolutely.
And I think that's, like I said, that's the season that I'm in.
So empty is, it's exactly, I mean, at first I really wrote it for the ladies.
It's like we are constantly pouring out.
We are constantly giving.
But I said, but everybody's, you know, tank is on the everybody's cup cup becomes empty yeah it really
is just about just saying like things that people know you know like i can't show up and be my best
self i can't actually help i can't serve i can't until i actually fill me up you know what i'm
saying like which is a concept i think that can feel selfish sometimes you know what what I mean? Like I grew up in church, you know,
I don't know about anybody else who I grew up in church.
And some of those themes like taking care of yourself first are kind of looked
down upon, you know, but I think as you get older,
you begin to understand like, no,
I need to be full like spiritually all these things before I can actually do
that. So, yeah, I mean, it's also about a relationship.
You know, this person who just wants so much, you know what I'm saying?
And realizing too, like, you know, this dude that I was talking to, you're not pouring into me, you know, person who just wants so much you know I'm saying and realizing to like you know this dude that I was talking to
you're not pouring into me you know the way I'm pointing to you so so it's
really about taking your space in your time and accepting the fact that like
the scary part about doing that is that you can lose people sometimes you know
I mean like when you're actually taking your space and stepping into your power
and taking time to fill up it's foreign like people
get comfortable with you functioning yeah in a way that helps and serves them you know the scary
part for me is like i don't want to lose people but sometimes you have to be willing for them to
grow and for you to grow you know so that's exactly right i'm glad you resonated with that
that's cool no no when you talk about the nine years right and you're making a personal album
like you're so many different people within nine years. Yeah. That's so many different seasons. Like, how do you, how do you, and you had to make more than
one project. Or maybe the project took a bunch of different lives. No, you're right about that,
actually. Because we do, we have a lot of songs, you know what I mean? I mean, 15 of them,
technically, it reads as 16, made the record, but it's a lot, you know what I'm saying? And I think
for me, once we kind of came down to putting the record together it was just about what songs still stand you know what i'm saying
what songs still represent me what songs still feel like timeless you know what i'm saying um
but you're right you are a lot of different people in nine years relationships change you
you know what i'm saying like relationships that hurt relationships where i made mistakes and i'm
like oh i've learned from that um the movie definitely changed me billy holiday had a huge impact in my life and her toxic ass
you had to be my god my god you know what i will say though i will say toxic and beautiful both
very much you know what i'm saying like we don't we do understand but like women of that time's
black women of that time you know what what I mean? So many limited options.
And people really hated her because she was like, those options, nah.
You know what I'm saying?
She has this quote where she said, I don't want to be anybody's damn maid.
You know what I mean?
And that always really stuck with me.
So it was not just the drugs, but it was the government hounding her.
But the other intoxicating thing for me was how people loved her.
They were very, very attracted to her. But the other intoxicating thing for me was how people loved her. Like they were very,
very attracted to her,
you know?
So that transformed me.
I lost a relationship because of,
because I changed drastically,
you know what I'm saying? When I came back,
things were the same.
And,
and so not that he did anything wrong.
He was amazing,
you know,
but,
but I,
I had changed.
And you got too deep in character.
Yeah.
Cause it was how she loved too.
Yeah.
And that actually infiltrated
my life it had to you know what i mean like so i was definitely changed by that and you'll hear
some of that on the record too and and so and there's a few other movies we did lee and i filmed
another one called the deliverance we filmed another one with titus um called exhibiting
forgiveness so all of that information you know um and like i said love gains love loss my
relationship with god growing and changing like it's a lot of different people hopefully it just
gels when y'all hear it but yeah all right when we come back we got more with andre day let's get
into her joint rise up it's the breakfast club good morning morning everybody it's dj envy jess
hilarious charlamagne the guy we are the breakfast club we're still kicking it With Andra Day Actress, songwriter, singer
Jess
Is there any song
On the album
That you would consider
Your favorite?
Ooh
It's so hard
You had the most fun
Making this one
This the one
You was in there like
You know
I think
Yeah maybe next time
Is one of them
Maybe next time
Is definitely one of them
Cause maybe next time
Is just to read
Like I said
I just had to tell
His self
And like
That's you know
I was just like I just had to get it Off my chest I was And, like, that's, you know. I was just, like, I just had to get it off my chest.
I was trying to write to be like, I've learned lessons.
I was like, no.
Yeah, no.
This is what you did.
You know what I'm saying?
And I was like, and I kind of like, so, okay.
So, I used to do this thing.
Do not ask me about it.
I do not have them no more.
Okay.
Because they were sitting right next to my devotion journal.
And God was like, really?
And I was like, okay, I'll delete it.
But I used to write, like, diss raps for raps for rappers I felt like didn't come back hard
enough.
In beefs. So did you write one for Drake
or Kendrick? Oh my God.
I wrote one for him
earlier in the Pusha Beef.
Oh, in the Pusha Beef.
Yeah, but it was like, yeah, I did
one for like, I did,
it was like my thing. It was just me in my notes.
I would never record them. I would just write them down. I'm like, I did, I used to do, it was like my thing. It was just me in my notes. Like, I would never record them.
I'll never, I'll just write them down.
I'm like, they could have said this.
They could have talked about this person.
They didn't even talk about the whole team and the squad and da-da-da, all that stuff.
So, I used to do that all the time.
So, like, I think with Maybe Next Time, I was kind of tapping into that.
Because I was like, I'm not a rapper like that.
So, I was like, I'll just like sing flow.
You know what I'm saying?
And just like, speak what's on my chest.
And so, that's probably one of my favorite because I got a lot off my chest.
You know what I'm saying?
And I'm just being pettier in that song.
And that is just necessary sometimes.
How much accountability are you taking though?
In this record?
None.
That's for everybody else.
Right, right.
Is your country falling apart?
Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary?
Consider this.
Start your own country.
I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this.
It's surprisingly easy.
There are 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete.
Everybody's doing it.
I am King Ernest Emmanuel.
I am the Queen of Ladonia.
I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg.
I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia.
Be part of a great colonial tradition.
Why can't I trade my own country?
My forefathers did that themselves.
What could go wrong?
No country willingly gives up their territory.
I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead.
Oh my God.
What is that?
Bullets.
Bullets.
We need help!
We still have the off-road portion to go.

athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what

Hey, y'all.
Niminy here.
I'm the host of a brand new history podcast
for kids and families called Historical Records.
Nine months before Rosa, it was called a moment.
Get the kids in your life excited about history by tuning in to Historical Records.
Because in order to make history, you have to make some noise.

And I'm Sydney.
And we're Mess.
Well, not a mess, but on our podcast called Mess, we celebrate all things messy.
But the gag is, not everything is a mess.
Sometimes it's just living.
Yeah, things like J-Lo on her third divorce.
Living.
Girls trip to Miami.
Mess.
Ozempic.
Messy, skinny living.
Restaurant stealing a birthday cake.
Mess.
Wait, what flavor was the cake though?
Okay, that's a good question.
Hooking up with someone in accounting and then getting a promotion.
Living.
Breaking up with your girlfriend while and then getting a promotion. Living. Breaking up with your girlfriend
while on Instagram live. Living. It's kind of mess. Yeah. Well, you get it. Got it. Live, love,

29 years ago, Kelly Taylor said these words, I choose me.
She made her choice.
She chose herself.
When it comes to love, choose you first.
Hi, everyone.
I'm Amy Robach.

Part 2 on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen
to podcasts.
I did enough accountability.
Y'all have it now.
Right.
You know what I'm saying?
Right.
No, I think for me,
this record is like,
there's always accountability.
I think it's like growth.
But like,
which is why I was going to say
Still at the end of the record
is one of my favorite songs
and a song called Nervous.
Okay.
Because Still is like,
it's not necessarily
just taking accountability.
It's just accepting that like,
all of this stuff you went through and you did you know what i'm saying like um uh the stuff that
i'm i feel not proud of and the stuff that i'm hurt by whatever all of that stuff is was a part
of the journey you know what i'm saying like i feel like life is cyclical and we can kind of
but in a cycle like you know sometimes you're going up you're going forward sometimes it feels like you're going down sometimes you're going backwards like but you're
always moving you know what i'm saying forward yeah and so i feel like still is a reminder that
like like i do devotion every morning right so i pray you know read scripture meditate on the word
you know try to live my life you know according to that but like realizing that like sometimes it
doesn't feel good but that process
like working out in the gym eventually it will develop yeah that's right eventually it will
you know what i'm saying so the song goes from being stuck still to actually being still and
having peace you know what i mean so it's less about accountability it's more about just accepting
that the journey is what it is every single version of yourself ever deserves exactly what
the version of you is getting now which is that absolutely that's a good point and you you want a Grammy and a
Golden Glover I did mmm and an Emmy which I didn't realize I wanted to like
two years was it two years later when did when did I remember how is there
pressure you didn't know that you wanted to do is my I know it was a friends and
family Emmy or something like that from a show and I was like that's a blessing
that's a good way to wake up what does Emmy or something like that from a show. And I was like, that's a blessing. That is a blessing.
It's a good way to wake up.
You know what I mean, right?
What does that validation mean to you?
If anything.
That's a good, that's a good conversation.
It means a lot and nothing at the same time.
Does that make sense a little bit?
It means a lot just because you know what it reminds me of?
It reminds, I did not expect this movie to do what it did.
I didn't expect the character to do what it did.
I didn't expect my performance.
I went to set every day expecting to get fired which is a crazy mentality to go in
with so it just reminds me that like collaboration and community is really a blessing and and it is
nice when the community you know what i'm saying recognizes it but it is not validation for me it's
a blessing and it's a bonus and it's beautiful. I'm blessed, but it does not define me in that way.
In the politest terms I can put it.
You know what I'm saying?
Also, listen, I'm not going to parse words.
That community, the representation is not really there yet.
You know what I'm saying?
There are people making strides, which is beautiful.
So I want to make sure I shout out and highlight the people within these sort of like organization or these committees that are actually seeking to get more representation, you know what I'm saying, for different types of communities.
But yeah, so when you have a group of people that don't look like you that say, oh, I didn't resonate with this.
And it's like, well, why would you resonate with this?
You know what I mean?
You don't have this experience.
You don't look like me.
So those are things, if I'm being really candid, like those are things that need to be looked at and addressed you know what i'm saying if something like this is to persist for me like some of those
same people yeah white people yeah we're pissed off at you when you sang the black national anthem
not you they'd be mad but they were just mad that the black national anthem was performed
lift every voice and sing with me yeah i how did you feel about that backlash well first of all how
was that feeling you performing at the super bowl my god that so first okay i'll deal with the
feeling first you're right like the feeling was just like my god when i tell y'all so here's the
thing i these are like it goes back to like i said standing in your power when you have a truth and
an understanding and you're willing to sacrifice for that like it can be scary because you'll lose
things people opportunities so performing at the super bowl for me was just such a blessing was a and you're willing to sacrifice for that, like, it can be scary because you'll lose things, people, opportunities.
So performing at the Super Bowl for me was just such a blessing.
It was a full circle moment.
Terrifying.
Like, I stopped singing the national anthem,
like, years ago.
And I've been asked a lot to do it.
You know what I'm saying?
For different games, for different things.
And I just finally got to a point, you know,
especially after the Kaepernick stuff and all that,
I was just kind of like, you know,
I don't want to sing this again, you know what I'm'm saying in support until I can sing this song in this arena you
feel me like and um and for me it was a big deal because because I was like I'm tired of people
acting like this singing songs that represent other people you know yeah is divisive and it's
not because I feel like it's the black national anthem but it actually speaks to unity you know
what I'm saying and I think opens people's eyes
And so it was really a full circle moment cuz to get the call
Because when she called me she was like they want you to sing the anthem at the Super Bowl
And I can even go into I don't sing that they want you to sing that very worst insane
I was like, mmm, so if it was the regular one you wasn't gonna sing in the Super Bowl
So like so the fact that it was that that after all these years I was able to do it and to sing that song on the biggest
stage was so crazy I was so so nervous you know but I but I knew that like I'm aligned like I'm
walking in purpose here so and to deal with like you know the feeling of of right all the backlash
from just the angry whites you know who didn't want me to sing it.
To be honest with you, it's funny because I think y'all brought it up to me one time and it was like, hey, you know, how do you feel?
I honestly was not paying attention to it at all.
You know what I mean?
And I'm not even saying that as like Cap, where I'm just like to protect my people.
I really didn't know at first.
You know what I mean?
And then once I found out, it was just like, I don't care.
Like, I really don't care. and I think that's the thing like when you walk in purpose like I said
it was like some people will be mad you know what I'm saying and listen they're not just mad about
the song being sung you know what I mean it's just black people showing up in ourselves and as we are
and who we are in any arena we don't want you infiltrating our anything our games our shows
our culture our life that's not a real representation of like
American life you know what I'm saying like so for me I think my perspective was a spiritual
perspective where I go and God's working on me on this part you know what I'm saying about
loving everybody those white people but um so that was my thing I was like you know what what
I'm gonna choose to do is love you the way I love everybody.
Just distance myself.
You know what I'm saying?
Cause the truth is y'all going to be mad.
You know what I'm saying?
Anyway.
And the sad part is what you in sitting there angry, you actually going to miss the blessing
of what this moment could be.
You know what I'm saying?
Like you're going to miss what this song is actually saying.
You're going to miss what you can learn from these people's struggle.
You know what I'm saying?
And from their triumph, like, and so more than anything, I felt bad for them.
You know what I'm saying?
I was like, y'all can stay over there.
So I was just really, like, nothing was going to stop me from doing this.
You know what I'm saying?
Nothing did.
Yeah.
I feel like the truth is people will always find a reason to be mad.
They will always find a reason to be mad as long as they have to share.
But that's just, time is going to continue to turn over and those people will be phased out you know what i'm saying that's right well the album
cassandra comes out may 10th and we appreciate you for joining us thank you oh my god i was
really excited about this thank you thank you so much ladies and gentlemen it's andre day
it's the breakfast club good morning the breakfast club
morning everybody it's dj nv jess hilarious charlamagne the guy we are the breakfast club

What's up, Nyla?
What's up, guys?
Big Nyla!
Hello, hello.
Now, I see Nyla out in Vegas for Lovers and Friends.
When did you go home, Nyla?
I went home that morning. I was so pissed.
What?
So pissed.
So you went out there just to see the concert?
Yeah, I was going out there with Duse to shoot some content.
I was excited i wanted
to see tlc but it's all good um dreyas was a vibe you killed your set money killed his set i really
had a good time yeah thank you man we had a great time we're going back out there too for that rmb
they're gonna i think they're gonna do a residency so that's gonna be pretty dope what yeah that's
oh y'all need to let me open stop playing b. B. Cox did good, too. That was my first time seeing him spin.
I usually see him host.
Pause.
Spin?
Pause?
He said B. Cox did good.
Yo, you stupid, man.
Stupid, man.
I'm going to get into the music.
Let's get to the music, man.
Daddy's listening.
Anyway, y'all, come on.
Shout out to Brian Mike Cox, man.
Yes.
Damn.
God damn.
Shout out to Brian Mike and *** man. Yes. Damn. God damn. Shout out to Brian Mike and ***.
Y'all are crazy.
Oh, my God.
Let's keep it R&B since we talking about the R&B party in Vegas.
Tommy Richmond has a bop.
I think it might be the bop of the summer.
He's one of the contenders.
Million Dollar Baby. I like that record
I've heard that before
That's all
Do we want to hear
Tommy say
What is he? I can't tell No no he's white. Do we want to hear Tommy say **** no more, though?
What is he?
I can't tell.
No, no, he's white, but he's from the DMV, so relax.
Well, he's got the number two song in the country, right?
Yes.
And honestly, if the rap war wasn't going on when this record hit, I think he would
have a bigger moment.
But let's just still give him his flowers because it's still a bop.
Well, we definitely need Kendrick to be number one now, then.
Okay?
Oh, God.
Okay.
Oh, my God.
Speaking of Kendrick being number one, Not Like Us.
Let's get into it.
Hey.
They not like us.
They not like us.
They not like us.
They not like us.
They not like us.
They not like us.
You think the pay don't let you disrespect pop?
I think that open show gon' be your last stop.
They cold foul.
I don't know why You still pretending
What is the hour
Then burn
Both those records
You played
Are contenders
For song of the summer
Already
I think so too
Already
I think Kendrick got it though
That Kendrick record
Goes off everywhere
But you know what I do
It's an anthem
For the west coast
Because you know
There's no place
Like the west coast
So other places
Are not like
Not like the west coast So they can embrace that and say,
yeah, y'all not like us. I want to see
Kendrick do a whole West Coast album now though.
I want him to get in there with Mustard,
Dr. Dre, DJ Quick, Battle Cat,
all the new up-and-coming producers
from the West that got that sound, that sound
we're hearing right there. I want to hear him
do a whole West Coast album.
That would be dope. And I hope when he does his first
interview to talk about what happened with the Drake situation situation he has to do it with a west coast
personality he should he should actually sit down with my man uh dj head definitely had pause
sit down with head and uh glasses malone too i would like to see all three of them in conversation
y'all take freaky friday a little too far. This guy is crazy. Everything is about his body. I just said definitely head, meaning DJ head.
Pause.
Pause, pause, pause.
You don't got to do all that.
If you want all the DJs to **** you off, who am I to tell you otherwise?
I want all the DJs ****.
Oh, my God.
I was trying to figure out, is Not Like Us better than Like That?
Because previous to that, I'm like, okay, Like That is the one.
Yeah, I like Like That too, but I just like, I dance more too.
Like Us.
Yeah, Like That, not like, Like That make me feel like I want rap, but like Not Like Us.
I'll be like, I'll be wanting to dance.
Two different type of records.
Yeah.
I'm shocked Drake let Kendrick do a diss bop before him though.
Like I thought that's what Drake was going to do,
come out with something that's going to get the clubs going, the radio going.
I don't think that he was expecting Kendrick to go that route, though.
That's true.
Because we weren't either.
See, and that's the whole magic and beauty behind this thing,
because even Euphoria, like, when I first heard Euphoria,
I was laughing because at the bars, like, Kendrick's making jokes.
Like, each line is a joke.
And I think that Drake undermined his opponent. They opponent they're like yo this is not his thing he don't make hits so i
think everything that people doubted about kendrick he showed them like yeah you see me i'm top three
top two he's got two records you know billboard so yeah shout out to kendrick but kendrick always
made hits he just didn't make party records. Yes. Yes, but alright
The last artist is actually from Toronto, but her name is sad boy. She's super dope. She's onto LVR in
Shout out to Amber Grimes, but she got this record called slide that I love Wanna see me again Can't even lie I'm a sad boy Where I be juggling All these mans When I touch back down
In a tee-dye
Oh yes I bring out
All them twins
And it's spring, summer, fall
I'ma be showing
Hella skin
If joy be yours
It's spilling
Then you know
I'm gonna slow
Hashtag find the mic
Then you know
Bout to find the flag
Okay
She reminds me of M.I.A.
She got like a M.I.A.
Type of vibe going on
I like it
That's definitely boppy
Like Bobby
Yeah
Cool
Yeah all those songs
You play require deodorant
Because everybody
Gonna be outside
Dancing to those records
You know what I'm saying
So you can't be outside
Without deodorant
On to those records
When those records come on
Yes
Yes
Make sure you get your D.O. guys
So sorry
I lost my voice last night
At this dinner
I met Jill Scott last night
Oh my god
Okay I met Jill Scott last night Oh my god Okay
I met Jill Scott
I'm so hype
It was crazy
I didn't think I would be starstruck
Someone texted me
Before I got there
Like Jill Scott's there
And I'm like oh okay
Then when I saw her
I'm like
Jill Scott's here
Oh my god
And she was probably
Such a vibe wasn't she
Yo she was mad cool
Mad regular
Introduced herself
I'm like I know who you are
Right right
Anyway
Salute to Jill Scott
Jill the one But you know It's because of the type of music she makes it means
something yeah that's what happens when you uh you know focus on substance and things of socially
redeeming value and you put actual real energy and consciousness in your music that's true and
what i said to her when i saw her i was like i was actually just listening to slowly surely and i'm
like i cried to that record so much last year.
But this year, I listened to it as like a cleanse.
And she was like, wow, that really touched me because that was the whole purpose behind the record.
And it's good to see that 20 years later, it has that same effect.
So it was really cool.
But that's why I lost my voice.
But anyway, neither here nor there.
