Just from the whole weekend. No, for real, yo, the cousins festival was, it was fun. Yeah, I had a lot of fun this weekend. I didn't know it was the second annual. I thought it was the third one. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:48 That's what's up, yo. That's the Cooch Festival. Push your Teas. Yes. Push your Teas Festival. Yeah, push your family and Antonio. They put together a cousin's festival. This is the second annual. It was sold out. It's outdoor and indoor. So they We have Me, Clue, and Backyard Band, which is a go-go band, perform outside. And then you go inside and inside was Little Kim T. Payne and Jeezie. And Trinidad James popped in.
Starting point is 00:03:13 We need to know he was coming. We suspect that surprise. Chico Bean hosted the inside stage. It was dope. It was a whole experience. It was like a big-ass cookout family reunion. The vendors, the food trucks was nice. Everything, Hennessy sponsored it.
Starting point is 00:03:29 It was just like a big, lit situation. Yeah. And I still didn't see Malice. We was at church. I didn't see Malice at. I didn't see Malice at all. Damn. I seen Push.
Starting point is 00:03:38 I seen everybody else. I didn't see you. I seen everybody except them. I see Alan Avicciss in. It was a holiday weekend. Malice probably like, man, we've been on the road. We've been, you know what I'm saying? We were promoting this album.
Starting point is 00:03:48 It was a lot going on. Yeah. But it was fun. And it was all positive, though. Yeah, it was all positive. It was just a great time. It was a huge family reunion. Shoot, salute to Mike Vic and his family.
Starting point is 00:03:58 They gave me. my Mike Vic jersey That's right, Norfolk State Mike Vick. I'm going to wear this to school. I said, yeah, I'm away at the school. I went to Hampton the other side, but I got to support Mike Vick. So that was a lot of fun. So salute to everybody in the
Starting point is 00:04:10 757. You know, I love the 757. Now, you was home, right? You was home. Yeah, I was in South Carolina. My good brother, Baccari Sellers, he renewed his vows this weekend. Okay, nice. Congratulations. He made his beautiful wife, Ellen, Ellen Rucker. And, yeah, it was incredible, man.
Starting point is 00:04:25 You know, I love a wedding. If you want to get, if you want to bring every bit of cancer out of me, put me in a wedding. Okay. I mean, I was an idiot, but I'm just saying, put me there. Like, you know, just to sit there and watch.
Starting point is 00:04:37 You know, I mean, he had Bishop T.D. Jake's there renewing his vows. You know, Tyrese came out and sang. Yeah, so it was an incredible event. That's dope. I thought I saw you in the airport, but I wasn't sure. I didn't have my one contact. People kept telling me,
Starting point is 00:04:50 I'm just seeing you. I just seen Charlamagne. Somebody told me they saw it. I promise you, slew to my guy, Rob, in South Carolina. He said, I think I saw that at the minute. He said in the airport earlier, man. I said, he said, he said, I feel like I saw him in the Delta Lounge. I'm like, he probably did.
Starting point is 00:05:06 He said he was Dominican. He definitely said he was Dominican. He definitely said he was so crazy. He might say gay, too, but I definitely remember what I'm saying Dominican. All right, let's get the show cracker. Why do you got to go there? No, serious. I'm not even joking.
Starting point is 00:05:17 He didn't say no damn gay. I promised you. He said, I've seen the gay Dominican DJM. He didn't say that. That one even sound right. Those are the two things they say about three. Gay Dominican and a family man. Crazy.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Oh, my goodness. Crazy. How are you a gay. A gay family man. I didn't have my family, but you get me. I wasn't as I'm not Dominican and I'm not gay. I'm not telling you what they're doing.
Starting point is 00:05:35 All right. Let's get the show cracker. Coach Kay and Mel Carter will be joining us. You know Coach Kay, one of the owners of QC was once manager to GZ and Gucci. He'll be joining us, and Mel Carter's just an industry vet.
Starting point is 00:05:48 We'll talk to both of them brothers. But the beautiful thing that these brothers are doing now, they have diversified their portfolio in an amazing way. They are some of the largest black-controlled franchise and Bo Jangle. history. They got like 32 bowl jangles in America. Yeah, yep, yep. We'll talk to them
Starting point is 00:06:04 in a little bit, and then we got front page news. Mimi's here, so we're kicking with Mimi. Let's get in some front page news. What's up, Mimi? What's up? Good morning, y'all. How you doing? Hey, me, me. Good, good morning. All right, so let's start with news out of Chicago this morning where officials
Starting point is 00:06:20 are bracing for a major federal immigration enforcement operation that could begin as soon as this week. Now, over the weekend, the city's mayor, Brandon Johnson, signed an executive order, making it clear that Chicago police will not participate in federal immigration raids. Let's listen to what he had to say. This order affirms that the Chicago Police Department will not collaborate with military personnel on police patrols or civil immigration enforcement. This order affirms the CPD officers will be directed to wear CPD uniforms and refrain from wearing masks so that residents, can clearly distinguish them from federal agents. We do not want to see tanks in our streets.
Starting point is 00:07:04 We do not want to see families ripped apart. We do not want grandmothers thrown into the back of unmarked bands. We don't want to see homeless Chicagoans harassed or disappeared by federal agents. We don't want to see Chicagoans arrested for sitting on their porch. That's not who we are as a city. And that's not who we are as a nation. So question, is there a difference between federal immigration offices and ICE? I thought ICE was federal immigration officers. It's the same thing. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Yeah. And no local law enforcement, of course, the country is joining in with ICE, right? Everybody's basically saying, ICE you on your own, no or are local enforcement helping. I'm glad you asked that because that's what's coming up next because Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Nome, she confirmed this weekend on Face the Nation that the Trump administration plans to expand those ICE operations and that they are working with some local cities and governments. And let's listen to what Christy Noem had to say. I think there's a lot of cities that are dealing with crime and violence right now.
Starting point is 00:08:04 And so we haven't taken anything off the table. We've been making sure that we have the resources and the equipment to go in. We've been working to partner with every single agency that we can. We have hundreds and hundreds of agreements with local law enforcement, sheriffs, city administrators and mayors across the country that want to solve problems. I'd encourage every single big city, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, whatever they are, if they want to help make their cities safer, more prosperous, allow people the opportunity to walk in freedom like the people of Washington, D.C. are now, and enjoying going out to eat
Starting point is 00:08:41 at night and not having to worry if they're going to be a victim of a carjacking or a robbery, they should call us, because we will work with anybody and do what we can to make sure that we're upholding our Constitution, upholding the law, but making sure their families are safe. so this is so president trump has repeatedly criticized chicago's leadership about the rising violence and despite reports that there's a 21% drop in overall violent crime and a 32% drop in homicides this year but over the holiday weekend this labor day holiday weekend 48 people were shot eight fought fatally across chicago and so president trump is using that he he posted on 20 on uh was it true social that 24 people
Starting point is 00:09:24 were shot in Chicago last weekend. I'm not even talking about this weekend. And J.B. Pritzer, who is a governor, says he doesn't need help fighting crime. Trump calls him crazy and says he better straighten it out before they get there. It feels like they want to do in Chicago what they did in D.C.
Starting point is 00:09:41 But now they are turning this to an ICE issue. So which is it? Is it an immigration issue or a crime issue? Are they conflating the two? I think they're conflating the two. For sure. For sure. And they're going after all major cities. There reports that Boston may be next, so we shall see. And so while Chicago braces for those federal raids, there are new growing concerns this morning about the administration's
Starting point is 00:10:04 impact on the nation's health. So nine former directors of the CDC are speaking out, and they are warning that political influence from Trump, the Trump administration, the health and human services secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is putting the nation at risk. And an op-ed published in the New York Times, the former directors whose 10 years span from 1977 to now, and all who have served under both Republican and Democratic presidents, warn that Kennedy's control of health policy, funding, and research is unlike anything we have ever seen before, unlike anything our country has ever experienced. Their essay cites several alarming key decisions that Kennedy has made under his leadership, including firing thousands of federal health workers, canceling
Starting point is 00:10:49 $500 million in MRNA vaccine research, which is COVID-19 research, and removing all 17 members of the CDC's vaccine advisory committee, placing them with his own appointees, all of which are vaccine skeptic people who hold those views. Dr. Richard Bessert, he is one of the co-authors of the op-ed and a former acting CDC director. This is what he had to say to ABC News about the the changes that he's making. What is happening at the CDC is not business as usual. This is not just the change of an administration and different priorities. We have a Secretary of Health who is a strong ideologue.
Starting point is 00:11:29 He came in as one of the nation's leading anti-vaccine proponents, and he is step by step dismantling an agency that is critical to the health of everyone in America in every single community. And so this warning is coming after they removed the CDC director, Dr. Susan Montaneras, last month, after she refused to resign. The White House says she wasn't aligned with their Make America Healthy Again, agenda. Now, following her removal, they put in a new senior official, and he is a Silicon Valley investor. His name is Jim O'Neill, and he has, of course, promoted unproven COVID-19 treatments, and he has been named acting, CDC director. And so this week, all eyes will be on Capitol Hill as the health secretary,
Starting point is 00:12:17 Robert F. Kennedy, is scheduled to testify before Congress, where he is expected to face tough questions about his leadership and the growing turmoil inside the CDC. All right. Well, thank you, Mimi. You're welcome. And coming up at 7, there are growing concerns this morning about the president's health. We're learning what the White House is saying about that. And we'll talk about that next. All right. Everybody else, get it off your chest. 800-58-105-105.1. If you need to vent phone lines are wide open. Let us know how your weekend was, what you did.

Starting point is 00:20:13 Tyrese got it. Of course. Oh, why, yes. Tyrese ain't heard live in a minute. People forget because he'd be like, you know, he does the crying and all the different things. He just the crying. I don't know how many. I don't know how either, because it's Tyrese is Tyrese, now look.

The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's D.J. N.V. Jess O'Larish. Sholomey and the guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get to the latest with Lauren.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Lauren, he's coming a straight fat. Tell us. She gets them from somebody that knows somebody. She gets to detail. I'm a home girl that knows a little bit about everything. She'd be having the latest on this. The latest with Lauren LaRosa. Sometimes you have facts, sometimes you have details, sometimes she has a little bit of everything.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Well, it's the latest. On the Breakfast Club. Talk to me. Well, Tyrese gave us 26, 27 minutes of golden testimony over the weekend. And there was two different videos. So that was one video. And then there was another video where he talked about Mary J. Blige. We're going to get into it.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Now, in the first video, he talked about. heading to Charleston, South Carolina to sing in Bacari Sellers Vowal Renewals. Yes, Bacari Sellers and Ellen Sellers got, they renewed their vows this past Friday in Charleston, South Carolina. Yeah, did you know it was a journey for Tyrese to get there? Did you know everything? I didn't even know Tyrese was going to be there.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Oh, listen. Okay, he says that he was a surprise, so let's take a listen to me. I didn't even know it was a wedding renal vows until I got this. Was that a surprise for y'all too? Yes, for me. Okay, well, so Tyrese talks about it. Put your wife just told you to show up? It was a black tie. They didn't, they didn't tell us what it was. Oh, that's fire. I love that.
Starting point is 00:22:09 Well, okay, so Tyrese, he got online on, after he got there and did his thing and talked about how God was so good because he even made it there. Let's take a listen to Tyrese on God. I've been having some intimate and beautiful exchanges and moments with God. And I know it's him. I know it's him because it's impossible that something that I thought was on the brink of destruction got turned around. I might be handsome. I might have the gift of the gab. I might live in this.
Starting point is 00:22:42 I might be an entertainer. I might be all of these different things. But I can't say that I'm responsible for that. I didn't fix that. I'm not the reason I didn't file for bankruptcy just last week. I'm not the reason that some way somehow, all of the legal fees that I owe my ex, somehow showed up. I'm good. I'm not that good.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Now, not only is he saying he's not that good, but he talks about God saving him because when he was in the airport to make it to South Carolina, the flight almost didn't happen. Let's take a listen to him on missing the flight. My father just passed away. I went to Charleston, South Carolina yesterday.
Starting point is 00:23:26 He's a brother that's on CNN. He just celebrated 10 years of marriage. So he brought Bishop T.D. Jake's to Charleston, South Carolina, to renew his vows with his beautiful wife. This man paid me to go and sing to his wife. So Tyrese is a favorite, sweet lady lately. What am I going to do? Stay, my wife loves you, bro.
Starting point is 00:23:55 I just want to surprise her with you. I miss my flight. I miss my flight. And I was like, Bishop T.D. Jakes is going to be there? My father just died. I can use a hug from Jakes I need this so badly But I miss my flight
Starting point is 00:24:10 Now he says he got the So this is what happened He says a woman in the red jacket Delta walks up to him tells him that he got the flight They put him on He's in seat 30 They upgrade him in the first class He makes it he's able to sing
Starting point is 00:24:22 And when he gets there TD Jakes was actually waiting For him five hours later Let's take a listen I knew Bishop Jakes was gone There ain't no way Bishop Jakes Is still there What he did
Starting point is 00:24:33 And what he was supposed to do was five hours ago. I was like, oh man, I really wanted to see him, really wanted this man to pray for me, pray over me. So my plane land, they said, hey, Ty, I said what? Bishop Jakes is still here. I said, what? Yeah, he's waiting on you. Him and his wife. They said they want to see you. They want to pray for you. They want to pray over you. They've been here waiting for five hours. He knew you missed your flight. He knew you wanted to see him. What he was there to do is, already over. You're not lying,
Starting point is 00:25:07 because Bishop T.D. Jigs definitely came up to me and asked me, have I seen Tyrese? Oh, he thought he really was there waiting for him. I was like, I was like, excuse me, Bishop? I didn't know what the hell he was talking about. And just so you know, Saturday in Atlanta, the airports had a major problem. The train system went down.
Starting point is 00:25:23 It was Friday? I think it happened Friday. The train systems were down. Oh, in Atlanta? So, you know, the trains, so you go to terminal or terminal. So people had to walk. So a lot of my friends missed their flights, too. They were supposed to go to Cousons festivals.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Like, yeah. So it was, it was. bad at Atlanta Friday and Saturday. I do want to drop on the clues bombs for Tyrese because boy that brother
Starting point is 00:25:39 can sing. Like we always know Tyrese is talented and we know he can sing but I hadn't heard Tyrese live in a long time and to see Tyrese on stage in such an intimate setting
Starting point is 00:25:46 with no background singers and just my man DJ Puff Happy Born Day DJ Puff DJ Puff was just playing the instrumentals and Tyrese was singing over him phenomenal job. I'm bad. He still sound amazing.
Starting point is 00:25:59 Yes well yeah and he made it there and he was able to see he also talked about you he just mentioned you real quick He said he saw you and your beautiful wife and it was just a great time because it was what he needed.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Man, Bacari and Ellen had an amazing wedding renewal on Friday. And rest of the piece to Tarese's dad. Yes. We talked about a pair too when he went to go surprise his dad. Remember he did that? It was like they hadn't seen each other
Starting point is 00:26:21 in some years. He went to surprise him. He put out of album too. Yes. That was another part of it. Oh, Painefully beautiful. Yes. Oh, Taurice dropped the album.
Starting point is 00:26:29 It's like the cousin. When did you drop it? What's the other? What was the album before that? Beautiful Pain. Beautiful Pain. Yes. It's the cousin of Beautiful Pain
Starting point is 00:26:35 He dropped it while he was in the airport Or sort of something like that Like he was submitting it for the Grammys While he was in the airport They didn't think that they would make it They ended up making it And then he made it to Charleston South Carolina too So he was all got
Starting point is 00:26:46 He just dropped the album Well he just He said he was mixing mastering it in the airport I don't know if it's out right now I know it made the Grammy submissions though Okay Yes Well
Starting point is 00:26:55 What's major too man Y'all know major The recording artist major He sang that Bakari's one too He was phenomenal as well Is he a rock nation artist? I don't know Did they have
Starting point is 00:27:06 Did Vado perform there? Man, shut up Whatever, Tyrese and Mary You said Tyrese and Mary? Yeah, so Tyrese has been looking for Mary J. Blige. I remember because he was trying to do a songwriter But that's one thing God didn't work out for him
Starting point is 00:27:18 Let's take a listen to Tyrese on Mary J. Blige. I tried my best to get Mary J. Blige On both songs. She passed on it. It's okay. I feel the way about it. I'm hurt. I'm really hurt.
Starting point is 00:27:31 I can't lie. I was more so heard about her passing on the song Because like a mad scientist, I went into the studio And when I tell you, I customized this song I made this tailor made for Mary. If y'all can get this message to Mary, you're my Capricorn sister. I don't even think you understand how much I love you.
Starting point is 00:27:57 You are just so one of a kind. Your heart, your soul, your compassion, loyal to a default at times. I love you. I'm disappointed that you didn't do my song, but we got so much equity over all these years. I ain't going to hold that to you. Yeah, he had been looking for us for some time,
Starting point is 00:28:18 but the album is out now. Mary just said no. She said no, Tyrese be losing it. She said no, Tyrese, okay? You don't know what Mary got going on in her life. Let her be. He said he's not going to hold it against her. But you did that video because you
Starting point is 00:28:31 want everybody to go harass her basically on her page and spam her on her age. Why would you say no to tie? Speaking of ties, what's up, Richard Shane? Oh, so this is... My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Oh, wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon.
Starting point is 00:28:52 This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Holdup, isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them.
Starting point is 00:29:14 I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? Starting point is 00:31:07 My dad is a farmer and my mom is a cousin. So, like, it's not like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear. Well, 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house.
Starting point is 00:31:42 So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. Available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple. podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Beyond Measure. So this is Kelsey Ashley. She's a black woman designer.
Starting point is 00:32:07 This is a part of her collection. So her Beyond Measure is all about being powerful beyond measure. I thought one of your boyfriends told you to prove that he got your heart on lock. What? There's some kinky stuff going on. Yeah, I thought one of her boyfriend was like,
Starting point is 00:32:20 where it is to prove that I got you on lock. First of all, there's not one of boyfriends. There's one person. Oh, you got one person? Say his name. Say his name. If no one is around me Like a dog chain
Starting point is 00:32:32 Yeah, that's definitely Yeah, that's definitely giving dogs You want to be one of DMX's pit bull so bad Shut up I'm going to make a video I'm going to sit like Tyrese Because I got some things to get off Oh my goodness
Starting point is 00:32:41 You're going to make a video And I'll hold it and say This is a pit bull starter kit Where my dog's at? What's wrong with you? What's you doing? Tyrese's album is out now It is.
Starting point is 00:32:50 It is. Yep All right Shout out to beautiful Skippin' What? Painfully beautiful Salute to Tyree
Starting point is 00:32:56 That chain on your neck Look painfully beautiful It is heavy. Yes, it's a real dog chain. It's a thing. It's not a dog chain. I don't know if it's a dog chain really, but, yeah, like it's meant to be, we're breaking the chains and the boundary set on us. Oh, I know.
Starting point is 00:33:11 That's right. There you go. Beyond measure. Shout out to behind measure. You need to tell your stylist, we is free. You don't have to do that. Oh, that is the latest with Lauren. When we come back, we got front page news.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Therese, I'm going to join you because I just. It's the breakfast. Morning, everybody. It's D.E.J. NV. Just hilarious. Sholomaine de Guy. We are to Breakfast Club. Let's get back in some front page news. What up, Mimi? What's up, y'all? All right, so there are big changes ahead for former VP Kamala Harris after President Trump abruptly pulled her Secret Service protection. Harris will now be protected by the California Highway Patrol. This move comes after Trump signed an order last week, ending her detail as of Monday. Harris had been granted an extension by President Joe Biden through July of 2020.
Starting point is 00:33:59 Now, without that extension, her security would have ended just six months after leaving office, as it does for every vice president. Now, following the announcement, Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor, Karen Bass, they met to discuss Harris's safety at her Los Angeles home. Newsom's office did not confirm details, saying they don't comment on security arrangements, but the governor did release a statement saying the safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses. Now, the California Highway Patrol, they have a protective service division, which will now handle her security. It's the same specialized unit that protects the governor, other state-wide officials, and visiting dignitaries. Now, the timing comes just weeks before Harris begins a 15-stop international book tour to promote her book. It's called 107 Days, which details her 107-days presidential campaign following President Biden's exit from the 2024 race. Now, stopped are planned in London, Toronto, and several U.S. cities, but it still remains unclear whether the CHP will protect her beyond California.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Listen, I think that's crazy. It's actually ice cold, especially being that, you know, like you said, me and me, Donald Trump knows she's going on her book tall. But I personally believe that Israeli trained security is some of the best security in the world, if not the best. So I feel like APAC should pay for Vice President Kamala Harris' security. For all that elected officials have done for Israel, for all that of APAC invest in elected officials in our country, I feel like APAC should pay for Vice President Kamala Harris's security. For sure.
Starting point is 00:35:42 Just switching gears a little bit. There are new questions this morning, too, about President Trump's health. I don't know if you guys saw this, but he posted a week-old photo of himself golfing. Now, that happened over the weekend, and then he shared the photo on true social. He posted it of him and NFL coach, John Rudin, writing, great playing golf with him, a really nice guy, true character.
Starting point is 00:36:04 But online users, they quickly pointed out that that photo was taken August 23rd and not the day he said it, he took it this weekend. So that field claims that the White House may be trying to manage perceptions about the president's health. Now, this post came after speculation on social media where users noted that Trump hadn't been seen publicly for several days. And by Saturday afternoon, Trump Health was the top search topic on Google and where is Donald Trump was trending on X. Now, over the weekend, past spectators, they questioned how well Trump may be. And after the persistent bruising was spotted on the back of his hand. And then rumors have further grown since Vice President J.D. Vans.
Starting point is 00:36:48 USA today that he was prepared to step in as commander-in-chief, should anything happen. He gave that interview. Let's listen to what he had to say during that interview. The president is an incredibly good health. He's got incredible energy. And while most of the people who work around the President of the United States are younger than he is, I think that we find that he actually is the last person who goes to sleep. He's the last person making phone calls at night. And he's the first person who wakes up and the first person making phone calls in the morning. So yes, things can always happen. Yes, terrible tragedies happen, but I feel very confident the President of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term
Starting point is 00:37:25 and do great things for the American people. And if, God forbid, there's a terrible tragedy. I can't think of better on the job training than what I've gotten over the last 200 days. So despite all this scrutiny, Trump, of course, he's been active online. He posted dozens of messages on true social over the weekend, including new calls in mail-in voting, declaring Washington, D.C. is a crime-free zone. He also wrote that he's never felt better in his life. And I checked the White House public schedule. The president is expected to make an announcement this afternoon in the Oval Office at 2 p.m.,
Starting point is 00:37:54 so I'm sure people will be watching to see him there. And finally, switching gears, while we'll be watching that announcement, I wanted to talk a little bit. Charlemagne, I want to talk about something you were a part of this weekend, the International African-American Museum in Charleston. They hosted a free Labor Day event called Vives on the Yard. Thanks to the Black Effect Podcast Network and Charlemagne. Families got free admission to the museum all day. Yes, man. Could you tell us a little bit about it?
Starting point is 00:38:22 I know it was a celebration of culture and there was music and local vendors and the line was wrapped around the building. Yeah, I mean, you know, when I heard, you know, President Trump, you know, say what he said about the Smithsonian and, you know, just how museums need to be changed to reflect accurate history in America. I was like, well, they already do reflect accurate history in America. and I just started thinking about the International African American Museum, which I am on the board of in Charleston, South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:38:47 So, you know, I just hit up Dr. Tanya Matthews, who's the CEO down there and just, you know, thought about some things that we could do. And I knew that they were having a yard party on Monday. So I'm just like, yo, why don't I sponsor free admission? And so that's what we did. And, you know, a lot of people came out there yesterday. So I hope that they enjoyed themselves.
Starting point is 00:39:04 And I hope some people left and became members of the International African-American Museum. I want to become members. So if you are ever in Charleston, South Carolina, you should go visit the International African American Museum. It is on Gadsden's Wharf, and I forgot the exact number, but damn there, half of all enslaved Africans who came in America came through that port where the museum is built. So you should definitely go visit. Yeah, I saw that. It was 40% of enslaved Africans arrived at that port, Chala. So very, very interesting.
Starting point is 00:39:36 And then they're also doing a road to 500,000 campaign, which they want to welcome half a million visitors by the end of 2025. So please go to IAAmuseum.org for more information on the International African American Museum, man. Beautiful, beautiful facility it is. Absolutely. Check that out. All right, y'all. Well, thank you.
Starting point is 00:39:59 That is your front page news. I'm Mimi Brown. Follow me on social at Mimi Brown TV. And for more coverage, follow the black information. network or download the free I heart radio app and visit B-I-N-News.com. Thank you, Mimi. Thank you, Mimi. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:40:13 All right. See on tomorrow. All right. When we come back, Coach K and Mel Carter will be joining us there. The largest black-controlled franchisee the ease in Bojangles history and we'll talk to them next.
Starting point is 00:40:24 So don't move is the Breakfast Club the morning. The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody is D.J.N.V. Just hilarious. Shalameen de Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Long La Rosa is here as well. We got some special guests. in the building. Yes, indeed. We got Coach
Starting point is 00:40:38 Kay, who's been up here several times. And we got the brother of Mel Carter. Welcome. Thank you. Thank you. It's my first time. Yeah, first time here. Now, Mel, if they don't know who you are, you want to break down who you are and what you've done in this industry? Me, oh, man, long time coming. I did music for
Starting point is 00:40:54 20 years, 10 of it for free, and then I got paid for the other 10. He got paid for the other time. And I used to be the senior vice president of A&R Republic Records, went over to Warner, after that for three years and I just left Warner
Starting point is 00:41:10 like it's the first time saying it I'm leaving Warner oh wow wow wow why why why you started your only thing I saw right I started something different Second Estate is it called Second Estate was a joint venture at Warner
Starting point is 00:41:23 I was doing that and consulting for the A&R team starting something in the stream of space I started managing this kid named Rod he just did a subatine in the American Dream Mall He did 30 days, 30 nights live there. And I just really like that space.
Starting point is 00:41:40 So I'm doing that and just focus on these restaurants, for real, for real. You know what I'm saying? But that's really it. Just focus on this new company and focus on hopefully turning these restaurants into 100 restaurants in the next five years. You said A&R. Yeah. Right?
Starting point is 00:41:55 What is that? I feel like A&R doesn't exist anymore. And both of you brothers came from a place where y'all were strong A&Rs for your artists. Does A&R exist anymore? Do we need A&Rs? because it seems like the music is getting trashed. There's no guidance. I think we need it, no, that's the problem.
Starting point is 00:42:11 Yep. You know, they got rid of the artist development and started everybody, start treating the music like stockbrokers. You know what I'm saying? And chasing number, number, number. And, you know, and that became now labels, I should say, chase songs instead of building
Starting point is 00:42:26 and develop artists. You know what I'm saying? Once you build, you build an artist, it turns into a brand. And, you know, that's how, you know, and QC seemed like I studied, we studied, the Motowns and, you know, the Russells and, you know, those labels. And I think it needs to come back.
Starting point is 00:42:42 I think that's the problem. It's oversaturated. And nobody's like building stars. Now, you don't know who Coach K is Coach K. The first time I met him, he was with Gizi. Then one of the creators and owners of QC that brought all this slush of Lilliati, Gucci. He did Gucci back in the day, but he brought City Girls, uh, Migos. I mean, just a host of them, but they actually built from the ground up.
Starting point is 00:43:05 These artists didn't have hits at the time. You guys worked and created the hits and created which I wanted to do, which we don't see anymore. You know, one of the things that got me, and I love Republic record. Shout out to Monty and Avery, but it became this like, you don't really need A&R no more. You know how many kids I flew to New York City because they had a song that was trending. And by day three, the song was going down. And I had to just explain to them, we don't want to do the deal no more. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:43:33 So it's like you need A&R, but it's such a research game now that it's kind of hard to be at A&R because it's like you could have an artist that's the best and you like you want to build them up. But a kid from, you know, Michigan got something that's streaming, they don't even care how the song is. They go after it. So like that's why I admire coaching like QC
Starting point is 00:43:54 and like the last of that that's left for real, for real, that's really a dude name, Top Dog. They really still building artists, you know what I'm saying? Instead of just like chasing. was moving and it works and it's kind of like I guess it could be a better business model because you can develop a act and they don't work
Starting point is 00:44:11 but a lot of this shit that just start trending they don't really go nowhere I also feel like you got to have those boutique labels like the QC you need it like the top dog because the reality is y'all don't care people that's amazing they simply just don't care I look at like some of the last few releases
Starting point is 00:44:27 that came out from people Jed fantastic album offset fantastic album Tiana Taylor Fantastic Gob but they don't even feel like a Vince they feel like somebody just put it out there and did the minimal amount of work possible and now what?
Starting point is 00:44:40 But think about it, right? Every artist that's big. Let's say the top two, Drake, Kendrick, little baby. Every one of these acts came from a joint venture. So they had somebody in the middle
Starting point is 00:44:53 like a coach who cared. You know what I'm saying? Like TD, who cared? Cash money. They had somebody who sat between the label and was like, Yo, we ain't going to do that. We're going to do this.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Like, every successor republic except for Post Malone is through a joint venture. Wayne, Nikki, even Taylor, it's all joint ventures with somebody who was standing in the middle who cared. You know what I'm saying? So you need somebody who care. Can we drop a bomb for Little Baby, man? Little Baby sells so many goddamn records and is so quiet about it. He's like Diamond twice, right? Dimeon twice and nobody talks about it is insane.
Starting point is 00:45:32 You were telling me the numbers early. Yeah, I was pulling it up. So my turn is on Billboard's. He's number one of billboards. The top armbing hip-hop albums are the 21st century. Yeah, the number one album. When you saw that, how did you feel about it? I mean, I felt really good.
Starting point is 00:45:46 But, you know, when we was making that album, I knew it was special. You know what I'm saying? And what made it so special is when the album dropped. It dropped February 2020. Right. You know, two weeks later, like the middle of February. because like two weeks later, the world crashed. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:46:05 And it was like, it was really a messed up time because he didn't really get to go tour that album because everybody was down for a year and a half, basically. You know what I'm saying? But it stood a test of time of where, like, it was like every song, I was like, damn, damn, damn. And he just kept going to the point, like, right now, like freestyle. Seven years later, it's just jump up.
Starting point is 00:46:29 It's still the biggest record in the club. Somebody was like, that's his dreams and night. That and my dog. That is. Yeah. Yeah. It's a really good feeling. It's a really good feeling.
Starting point is 00:46:38 That body of work was a well put body of work. You know what I'm saying? He'd been developed over time and, you know, it's a good feeling. Did you think that he was going to come with, you know, basically the soundtrack for that year with a song like the bigger picture? When you think of all the artists that you thought was going to come and represent it with music, little baby was not on my bingo card to come with the record you know what's was crazy you know what I'm saying like he he went in I remember him doing a bigger picture you know I mean he called us is like yeah I'm gonna do this record
Starting point is 00:47:13 you know I'm saying he played it I was like oh man this is about to change the game he's like he said me and pee down say man listen I don't want this to sit on my album I want this to sit on I want to sit alone I don't want to make the money from this album you know what I'm saying because everybody kept to you need to speak up you need to speak up you need to speak up because he's big in the community and they know he had a voice you know talk to the kids he was like I want this song and we had to go to the label he was like I want this song all the money that it generates I want this song that that money I wanted to go to charities you know what I didn't know that yeah yeah yeah and criminal justice reforming
Starting point is 00:47:47 yeah everything you know and they go to the label like hey this is what we want to do and they was like yeah you know what I'm saying but he was like I don't even you know like that's how because everybody's like we need you to come march we need to come speak he went and cut the record. He's like, this is how I want to get my point across. He was very vulnerable on the record. Like, I hadn't heard him that vulnerable. You know what I'm saying? He let it out. And then we gave it to the world and boom.
Starting point is 00:48:09 So y'all ain't make no money off that record? Nah, we donated it. I didn't know that either. At what point the number was at like 1.5 million? Like, where is it now? We got that many artists. That means going on. I don't think people understand the impact of that
Starting point is 00:48:25 song and what that means to just give that all to, you know, a great thing he did. But that's a huge amount of money. And so even that year, it got nominated for Grammys and he got to perform. Grammys was like, it was still closed. You know what I'm saying? Like, he had a big performance, but, you know, really get to get the magic of what it really was. We're still kicking him with Coach K and Mel Carter.
Starting point is 00:48:49 Now you guys jumped into the fast food business, right? Yes. Or why you jumped into the Bojangles franchising? And how'd y'all even get together to do it? So me and Mel met 12 years ago. music we met on you know on some music stuff you know I'm saying we became super good friends my brother you know he was coming up in a business I literally was starting QC when me and him met you know I was like I got this idea you know he had an artist from Brooklyn he was doing
Starting point is 00:49:16 he was like man I need you help I was like we're gonna help each other you see what I'm saying because I was at the come up here I'm leaving management well still managing but was doubling down on you know starting a label man you know we We had a really good bond. You know, it's a good, good brother. And, what, about four, maybe four years ago? Five years ago, male start making his moves, you know what I'm saying, in New York. Like, meeting a lot of people and doing things.
Starting point is 00:49:42 I'm like, he's like, yo, when I find something, you know what I'm saying? Because you always kept it real with me, you know? Like, even when he went to go get a job, he was like, yo, I need you to call these folks and tell him this. It's real, you know? But, you know, once I find something, I'm going to pull you in, call me. He was like, man, what you know about Bojangles? I was like, whoa, that's crazy. I went to school in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:50:04 You know what I'm saying? I played basketball at St. Augustine. Bojangles kept me alive. That Boeh-Berry biscuit? Come on now. Come on now. That Bo-Berry biscuit ain't no joke. It kept me alive.
Starting point is 00:50:15 You know what I'm saying? Like, ate that shit. So I was, and I never even heard of Bojangles coming from Indianapolis, Indiana where I'm from. I got down there, I was like, the thing. And it was two minutes from my campus. You know, so I called me with that. opportunity I was like hell yeah I'm in you know I'm saying I was like what we can do
Starting point is 00:50:32 what I'm in he's like all right let me let me you know go center down and and really research and find out everything because I know you busy you know what I'm saying and when I get everything from all the information and I'm gonna put it in front of you here we are and you know it's funny how that opportunity came to me is having the right mentors you know what I'm saying in networking a guy named Mike Novigratz who and Dave Barry, I got a podcast with them based on business. It's called Business Untitled. They were actually going
Starting point is 00:51:03 to, I mean, whatever, it's out there now, they were going to buy Popeyes and they ended up, that fell through and they bought Bojangles because they felt like it was the next best brand. And that's how the opportunity came about. And I just started really looking into the brand. I always wanted to own something and like,
Starting point is 00:51:19 like as a kid, like man, it'd be cool to own McDonald's, you know what I'm saying? And it came out. We ended up buying, raised $25 million, bought 17 Bojangles and now grew it to 28 opening another two now opening four this year
Starting point is 00:51:35 congratulations 28 currently operating 17 in South Carolina we opened in the first one in Florence that's Bairn wine and one in UGA on the campus that do Bairn wine first Bojangles ever with Bain wine
Starting point is 00:51:50 so you can go there you can get your beer you get your wine you can order off the menu and all that other stuff Yeah, yeah. But, you know, like, when I tell this story, like, I'm more involved than coach, you know what I'm saying? Because coach is running a whole entire label. I'm more run this.
Starting point is 00:52:07 It wasn't easy to get to this. You know what I'm saying? In the first year, we bought it to EBITA, which is the profit, was at $2.5 million when we bought it. COVID hit, stores closed down. We was getting this crazy thing that was happening with the employees. I don't know if you remember the, the government, if you had an unemployment,
Starting point is 00:52:28 they was giving you $400 on your check if you left. So we was getting employees that worked for two weeks, quit, get our $500 from unemployment, and the government gave them $400 extra. So we had so much turnover. Now we got over 1,000 employees, which 80% of them is black.
Starting point is 00:52:48 You know what I'm saying? And like, we was getting 200 people turning over. Then we had to shut down stores. So the EBITI went from like 2.5 million to like a million eight, which that trips every alarm with the bank. So it was like, oh my God, we just like dropped the ball on this. Had to restructure, had a bad partner, coach warned me about. We got rid of him. And our restructure hired a guy named Rob, who's the CEO of the company, a CFO, Reed, Robin, and restructured the management team.
Starting point is 00:53:23 And, you know, thank God, today the business is we're doing $7.9 million in EBITDA this year on track to do $9.something million next year. It's simple every year since the fall. I think I saw you had an 82% revenue increase in the last three years. So, you know, but I say that to say like being an entrepreneur, man, I always tell people like, it's 80% headaches. It's 80% stress, but that 20% be really worth it. You know what's the biggest obstacles you guys?
Starting point is 00:53:53 face because you hear all the time tariffs is affecting this or this is affecting the foreign life you know people don't want this so they want this so what is the biggest obstacles you guys had to face in this part I mean and in this the tariffs didn't really affect us that much you know what I'm saying but like
Starting point is 00:54:09 the biggest obstacles I had to face me and coach had to face was getting the management team right people working you know what I'm saying getting people working right business you know what I'm saying it's getting the management right we got almost we probably got 1100 employees you know, we done
Starting point is 00:54:24 had fights at the store We don't have You see all that type of shit And you really be like Please don't be my store Because you get sued You know what I'm saying But I tell you one of the great moments
Starting point is 00:54:36 I had Somewhere in South Carolina And they got the store Pretty nice, ready And you know We hire a lot of ex-cons We give second chances Like just people like us
Starting point is 00:54:46 I'm a high school dropout kicked out So we hire people like ourselves That just We want to give opportunities to and I went there and they had this store like Super Ready they ain't know what I looked like
Starting point is 00:54:57 and this one dude he came up to me he just came out like maybe a year ago and he'd been working and he still works there I can't remember his name and he was like man you know I thought Coach K was the guy from Duke
Starting point is 00:55:10 that's what he said and he said and they told me the boss the other boss was coming from New York man we was scared we was like we thought it was like you know a white corporate guy And like, you like me.
Starting point is 00:55:23 And I'm like, yeah, I'm just like you. Like, you don't even understand how much I'm like you. And he gave me a hug. You know what I'm saying? And he was like, man, it's just good to see this. You know what I'm saying? And I was like, yo, if I could do this, you could really do this. Because I had no, I don't even know how I did this.
Starting point is 00:55:40 I just did it with God. You know what I'm saying? Did it with God? Did it with coach? I had the right friends, the right mentors. And, like, networking is everything. And like, you know, you could be a good networker. but if you're only networking in Flatbush,
Starting point is 00:55:53 you only going to meet people from Flatbush. You know what I'm saying? So you got to get outside your comfort zone and really, like, network with people like yourself. People like, you know, I hired you for a party like 15 years ago. I was throwing events in the lab. You remember that? On Fulton.
Starting point is 00:56:11 In Brooklyn? Yeah, in Brooklyn. Yeah. So I've been... He charged me like $40,000 back then. No, yeah, right. That was me. That was not me.
Starting point is 00:56:20 I'm joking. remember, but, you know, so I just been, like, networking my whole life and I don't treat networking as like, I want to network with people that I feel I can be friends with. You know what I'm saying? I'm way past that stage where I got to like, be around somebody I don't like
Starting point is 00:56:35 just to make it, make something happen. So, like, coach my brother, we're going to do both jangles together. You know what I'm saying? So, for kids, man, it ain't easy. It's really, really, really hard. Every day it feels like, ah, and I'm sure y'all know that. I heard you got a couple
Starting point is 00:56:50 Yeah, me and my wife, we got two, we bought six, but we got two that are currently operating in South Carolina. That's pretty, one in Orange Burger and one in Walterboro, Crystal. Crystal. Crystles. What, it's like burgers, right? Like burgers, right? Yeah, like sliders.
Starting point is 00:57:04 Yeah, we should talk on that, you know what I'm saying? And try it, because we got a lot of spaces like in both. We could do, we could do burgers, we can't do chicken. Okay. So it works perfectly. That's a conversation. So we could definitely have a conversation. But congrats on that.
Starting point is 00:57:18 All right. Thank you, brother. Yes, sir. We're still kicking in with Coach K and Mel Carter. Charlemagne? I want to ask y'all the same question about franchising. How important is regional identity when it comes to franchising? Because, you know, Bojangles coming to New York, Chick-fil-A in New York.
Starting point is 00:57:31 It don't hit the same for me coming from the South. Yeah, I was excited. Because y'all don't, y'all not used to it. I was excited at first. I can't imagine Bojangles in New York. That's what I fly home in certain things. You're from New York? No, I'm from Delaware.
Starting point is 00:57:43 But I got a lot of family. Uh-huh. That's why. I have a lot of family from down south. And I only know of Bojangles from when I'm down. stuff. Like I know literally when you're driving, when you hit certain areas, because you see Bojangler. And you look forward to it. Yeah, yeah. But like... You go to
Starting point is 00:57:56 LA, you look forward to end and not. If I'm in Florida, I look forward to the liquor. But if in and out came here, it'll be a line for 20 days. Absolutely. Absolutely. And Chick-fil-A... You're still a line in Chick-fil-A. And the Chick-fil-A, I know all this stuff because I'm in it, right? Chick-fil-A average unit volumes is 7 million. That's the average and worst.
Starting point is 00:58:14 They do. Our average unit volumes is 2.9 million. I got one store. We got one store that's doing $5 million, which is amazing. Chick-fil-A average store does $7 million. In New York City, the average Chick-fil-A does $12 million. Yes.
Starting point is 00:58:30 Yeah. So, somebody liked it. Yeah. And I'm saying, so. I still like having a regional identity with some of these franchises. I think they still do have regional identity. They definitely do. I think that's a chick-fil-A come here.
Starting point is 00:58:40 The people that's lit, you know, because, let's be clear, most people from New York, Blenages is from the South. That's right. You know what I'm saying? So they used to coming back and forth with grandma, auntie did this.
Starting point is 00:58:50 that you know so you know once when it came it's like whoa this is here now so let's flood it you know because you know you're not used to getting it and once it's good yeah once it's good you know and your point you were saying earlier about our cheap fast food used to be great point what we did with our company we created a my boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now i'm seriously suspicious oh wait a minute sam maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit well dakota It's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her.
Starting point is 00:59:30 Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him?
Starting point is 00:59:46 Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he not. wants them both to meet. So do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it. They had no idea who it was. Most everything
Starting point is 01:01:34 was burned up pretty good from the fire that not a whole lot was salvageable. These are the coldest of cold cases, but everything is about to change. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime. A small lab in Texas is cracking the code on DNA. Using new scientific tools, they're finding clues in evidence so tiny you might just miss it. He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen. I was just like, ah, gotcha. On America's Crime Lab, we'll learn about victims and survivors. And you'll meet the team
Starting point is 01:02:12 behind the scenes at Othrum, the Houston Lab that takes on the most hopeless case. to finally solve the unsolvable. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. $5.00 box. Outside of corporate, outside of, they can't really tell you what to do with your pricing. And that $5 box, our company is now comping 12% higher than corporate and every other franchise. Because you could afford it. Because you could afford it. You know what I'm saying? So now everybody's running to our stores for the $5 box. My kids went to Papi's the other day.
Starting point is 01:02:49 We do a $4.99 crystal meal deal. Yeah. My kids went to Popeyes the other day. It was $14. This was just for strips, fries, and a juice. And I could not believe it. I said, nah, we're going to go home and cook. I was like, I'll take the time to cook.
Starting point is 01:03:02 I could not give Popeyes, salutes Papas, $14. And you know, I got six kids. You left Popeye. I let Papii. What did you cook? What did you cook? I cook burgers.
Starting point is 01:03:13 How much you think the burgers are any? Because I ran, I say, I go to BJs, run a big box of burgers. It cost me $22 for the big Angus burgers. And put them on the thing, put the little fries in the thing. And it was good. After 20 minutes, they had their meal. I'm a pappy that cooks, though. So, you know.
Starting point is 01:03:26 If this don't work out, Bojangles at room. But you all right about that $5 price point, man. That's shit changes a lot. We got a $4.99 meal deal for, I think it's what, two crystal burgers, a small fry and a drink. Then we got a breakfast meal deal for $2 for $5. Yeah, bro. You can't get food for $5 nowhere.
Starting point is 01:03:45 That's right. That's right. So when you could and it's good, you know, people are running. I'm like, this is crazy. We're 12 comp and 12% higher. And I'm sure you've seen since you did that, it just went crazy. Because let's be real, times is real rough right now. Beef patty $4.
Starting point is 01:04:00 You got a beef patty $4? Oh my God. $150. That's crazy. See, where are you getting your beef patty from, though? Bodega. Where do bodega? Where do you go to Bodega?
Starting point is 01:04:10 I said, Bojanga. I like that. Bojango got beef patties. We might in Flatbush. Is it the first one coming in a flybush? I wanted to ask, you know, back to me, I know you still deal with Yadi. What were your thoughts when I feel like everybody was attacking Yadi?
Starting point is 01:04:26 And I feel like when sometimes we do things wrong as a community, instead of having a conversation, we attack and we like to cancel. And obviously he had a conversation and went back and apologized. So what was your thought when you heard Yadi's line and did you call him? Actually, I hadn't even talked to him until I seen, because he's in Australia on tour with, you know, So, and I was, I was just in Southeast 8, so we was kind of, we miss each other until every, like, him and Stephen had a conversation, you know what I'm saying? But like, when I heard, I was like, you know, me and Stephen, we really good, we were real cool.
Starting point is 01:04:58 You know, I was like, I'm going to put them together. But it happened naturally because Yadi, you know, if he makes a mistake, you know what I'm saying, the kid is so he's just a really good person and he's free, you know what I'm saying? And sometimes, you know, a lot of these, they just don't be thinking, you know what I'm saying? just going writing the line come out and then he gets to the backlash you know he's smart he's like I'm gonna hit him personally you know what I'm saying they talk personally which everything was cool you know he bossed up did what he need to do talk to him like a man they did that and now it's gone you know but I mean a lot of times I think you know these artists have free will man and sometimes in the end they just they just writing and thinking and not thinking about you know everything else you
Starting point is 01:05:41 know I'm saying come with it but I don't think he was attacked is the people use it at a moment to teach. Yeah, people were just upset. Yeah. I watched the documentary you guys did with JT when she first came home. And it showed how, like, I'm also too with a little baby's documentary. You guys are almost, it's such a family or felt like such a family at QC. No, it's still a family.
Starting point is 01:06:00 Okay, so it is still. Man, it's family oriented. Man, that's how we run our business, you know? Because I'm just wondering now, like, how the dynamic works because it's just JT. And are you guys still, I do still see like young Miami talking about you guys sometimes too. No, no, we still, our relationship, like, we still have a great relationship. See, Miami, we text each other. Everything is still cool.
Starting point is 01:06:20 It's just at the time where she wanted to go with her career, just things didn't match her work, you know? So it was like, hey, I'm not going to never hold nobody back. Yeah. You know what's what you want to do. You free, you know, free will you can go, you know, and explore any option you want to do it. It's still love, too. Did it break your hearts, though? Because I think we were all waiting for them to have that big major run together.
Starting point is 01:06:42 It didn't break my heart because. I've been in the game a long time, and I know people grow apart. You know what I'm saying? Like, it should be real. Like, that's why I think a lot of, if you look in the business, we were the only ones out there with groups.
Starting point is 01:06:53 Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Everybody was scared of groups. I mean, I mean, I used to get, man, you're crazy. You don't do a group. But I think that's what, that was our sweet spot.
Starting point is 01:07:02 You know what I'm saying? So it didn't break my heart just because hip hop raised me and I watched and studied, you know, music. You know what I'm saying? And then, I mean, eventually people are going to grow apart. You know what I'm saying? And we worked hard at it, you know?
Starting point is 01:07:18 And who knows, one day it may happen again, you know what I'm saying? But, like, yeah, people just grow apart. How did the untimely passing of takeoff impact you? It impact me to this day still. You know what I'm saying? Like, takeoff was probably one of the nicest, humble, like, any artists I ever worked with. You know what I'm saying? Like, he just was, who's God's child, man?
Starting point is 01:07:40 You know what I'm saying? Like, for real. And that moment, man, I'm still messed up out of that moment. Man, it's even hard to talk about it. You know what I'm saying? Just because, you know, yeah, it's a hard one, bro. Absolutely. A lot of the artists you've worked with, too, there's always, like, an entrepreneurial spirit about them.
Starting point is 01:07:59 And y'all empowered them to do that, too. I mean, I'm telling you, developing an artist, you turn them into a brand. You know what I'm saying? And me being a manager for so long, you know, I only ate off the ancillary. I never ate off the product I ate off the ancillary and the ancillary is all the businesses built around the artist
Starting point is 01:08:15 so when you build the artist it's like okay my soon as I signed an artist I'm like yo so how big do you want to go you know I said my goal is to turn you into a brand are you ready for that
Starting point is 01:08:27 you know I'm going to turn you to a brand and everything you touch all the ancillary that you think you know you like this you like that let's turn that into a business where you control and you own I like having y'all love here
Starting point is 01:08:39 man and having this conversation because when people see it's inspiring. There's so many people that look like us that don't even know things like this or possible. You know what I mean? Like franchising. Like I, it's something I always wanted to do, thinking about like what E-Class was doing in Florida.
Starting point is 01:08:53 You know, and... How did you get into it? Don Poole. Don Poole, yeah. He's trying to get rid of it on. He got to diversify. No, I got it. I was watching people like Rick Ross,
Starting point is 01:09:01 but I got into it because of the Two Chains. Because, you know, Tuchins became the head of creative marketing for Crystal. Yeah. Oh, wow. And then I saw a little Duval. A little Duval. A little Duval was down at Duval day
Starting point is 01:09:09 with all of Crystal Bergen. I'm like, damn, I didn't see Crystal in a minute. I just asked him, what you get that from? And that's when he told me about two chains. And I'm like, oh, two chains had to create a marketist. I ended up chains in tech. I'm like, yo, man, I want to talk about just seeing what's up with Crystal. And they plug me right in.
Starting point is 01:09:23 That's crazy. They plug me right in. And it just made sense. My team was like, yo, let's do it. You know, and what we do for brands as a culture, like we add a lot of value to shit that we don't own a lot of times. You know what I'm saying? So I don't own both jangles, but I'm going to own these restaurants.
Starting point is 01:09:38 That's right. And I'm going to help build it up. You know what I'm saying? Instead of just like taking some money to help promote them. That's right. So it's like, you know, again, I want to preach to these kids. Like, you got to own something. You got to own something.
Starting point is 01:09:51 And congrats on the crystals. Thank you, brother. That's big. Same to y'all, man. It's inspiring. Just hearing y'all talk, 28 currently operating 32 coming. Oh, that's incredible. To open next week, one on the campus of UGA.
Starting point is 01:10:02 Ooh. That's the B&1. That's the B&1. And the first one downtown. Florence you know so yeah we're excited about that thank you guys brothers for joining us man thank you guys for having us man thank you guys for encouraging keep pushing well coach k Mel Carter yes indeed it's the breakfast club good morning and you see how they ruined our life this morning by bringing up all those bull jangles what they
Starting point is 01:10:25 called the bullberry biscuits I tried to tell y'all they hit no they fired hit right yeah and you high hit didn't it Jeff yeah it did hit you it didn't alone relax man mm-hmm so you take it on No, I don't want these nitty. He acts like he can't eat it this morning. I don't want these nivis. I took half. I feel like them three going to go missing.
Starting point is 01:10:45 Oh, man, it was so good. I'm trying to tell you. I'm sleeping now. I want to take it home and warm it up. Go ahead. And relax. Take the old sandwiches. Take them out.
Starting point is 01:10:54 Oh, it's sandwiches outside too? Yeah. They got the bacon. It got the steak. Oh. Yeah. Lauren didn't even wash her hands. She just finished my makeup and I had washed my hands.
Starting point is 01:11:04 And you took it and ate it. I was, yeah. She's from Delaware. First of all, you said a little bit of staying with no water. All right, well, let's get to the latest one. Thank you. Lauren becoming a straight fan. She gets them from somebody that knows somebody.
Starting point is 01:11:19 She gets the detail. I'm a home girl that knows a little bit about everything. She'd be having the latest on this. The latest with Lauren La Rosa. Sometimes you have facts, sometimes you have details, sometimes she have a little bit everything. Well, it's the latest. On the breakfast club. Talk to me.
Starting point is 01:11:35 Well, speaking of Atlanta, so over the weekend there has been some conversations Atlanta and a lot of artists down there have been online debating and going back and forth because you know how we've been up here talking about Gunna and the conversations around can people support Gunna's music or not
Starting point is 01:11:51 so now the conversation and the light is shining Young Thugs way because there is alleged audio that is leaked. These audios are supposed to be jail calls of Young Thug having conversations with various people and he's discussing Gunna and
Starting point is 01:12:07 and some other things, but prior to this audio leaking, there was another alleged interrogation video that dropped, and this video was of Young Thug or, you know, allegedly Young Thug in a room, having a conversation with police about Little Wayne's Torbusts being shot up, and the person who allegedly did that, right? I say allegedly Young Thug. Because I have not myself spoken to any jail that has told me that that video is actually what we think it is. Isn't it a Young Thug in the video?
Starting point is 01:12:35 Yeah, but listen, the way to the Internet is set up today, I am going to, until I myself speak to a jail makes sense. Exactly. Yes, the way it did it. He's confirmed. He came out, well, listen, what he came out and was talking about was a back and forth between him and Rolo. They were online arguing. Rallo's another music artist from Atlanta. They were online going back and forth because Rallo began to have conversations about that interrogation video that happened in or did not happen. Okay, that's what he was referring to. He says that in the video that people are now seeing, he says that what he said online or in that conversation helped his friend. Now, moving forward,
Starting point is 01:13:12 so now we get to the Gunna part of it because now these jail phone calls begin to leak. And in one of the phone calls, Young Thug is having a conversation about Gunna and the whole RICO and Gunna testifying. And we've never heard Young Thug speak directly on this. I take a listen to Young Thug talking about Gunna and the RICO.
Starting point is 01:13:29 He made, which they've got to prove this show, which I don't think they're going to ever be able to prove because it's just not a game. He gave the jury. the agreement that it's a game. He said Yasea is a game and he know people on this trial
Starting point is 01:13:46 who committed crimes in furtherance of the game. You don't know nobody on this case. That's a lie. That's a full-blown lie. I know individuals on this case that committed crimes in furtherance of the game.
Starting point is 01:13:57 That's Rico. So if a n-a-old gives you on RICO, you really just, you've got a light to a and you're, and you're a hundred percent. You don't know nobody on the case. You ain't ever committed no crime. Duke can't commit no crime Yeah, can't commit no crime
Starting point is 01:14:09 No one of the three people you know on this case Ain't now one of them that's committing no crime So who the fuck did you talk about You know why self members on this case That committed crimes and further regard to the game You just made it a Muckercraico case You just made it the case Yeah, so he's talking about
Starting point is 01:14:25 When Gunna was in court and he was asked About, you know, being in a car And things being found in the car And who they belong to and if YSL was actually a gang But he was responding, yes ma'am, yes ma'am, yes ma'am That video, right? Yes. Now, so in addition to these audio, that audio being released, there was also another audio that was released of Gunna having, I'm sorry, not of Gunna, of Young Thug having a conversation with 21 Savage about what Gunna did and how that should be taken by people. Let's take a listen to that.
Starting point is 01:14:56 I don't feel like Charter did what he did with the intention of hurting. You feel what I'm saying? I don't want to get that vibe on him. I feel like he just brain. That's just my opinion. I just look at it. God, them shit was thinking about that one day, like, I ain't seen to say nothing about that. I'm like, I might just be like, man, man, don't folk did what they had to do. But I'm like,
Starting point is 01:15:16 shit the hell that's going to change. Because I feel like it's really old for your rap career. The album you put out, might go number one, but that's it after that. You know what I'm saying? Nah, if you hold his career in your hand, bro, that's what I'm telling you,
Starting point is 01:15:28 if you come out right now and tell the where what he did went wrong. Because them folks are already on the internet like, man. That's all that. He rocking with them. Ever since she's dropped that song, they're like, man, we rocked with him. If you come out and tell the world that you was in the greenish with that shit, his career ain't helped. Man, dropping a clues bombs for 21 Savage.
Starting point is 01:15:47 The first time I ever had a conversation with 21 was here on the breakfast club. And if you go back and watch that interview from nine years ago, I told him after talking to him that he had his head on right. You can tell he was smarter than most. And after listening to numerous calls between him and Thug this weekend, I still stand on that. Doug, you should have listened to 21. Okay, there is nobody I heard Give you better advice in this whole situation
Starting point is 01:16:10 Than that young man I agree, I agree And I want to say too Because he talked about like, you know Because there's so many calls But in some of the cause he talked about The music and what would happen With Gunna's career and how things would move forward
Starting point is 01:16:22 And this weekend, Gunna Hosted his first meetup of the Run Club They have a 5K happening Actually tomorrow, September 3rd At Prospect Park It's already sold out He hosted this first meetup And he was giving a motivational speech
Starting point is 01:16:34 Just about where he is in life right now It made me think all of this stuff is happening, and he has moved on and chose a whole different route. He did his last album on Thug's label, so he's a free agent. Last one. He's moved on. As far as him's concerned, he is concerned. His concerts are still sold out.
Starting point is 01:16:50 He does arenas, but he does concert halls. He sells them out. He doesn't care. He has moved on. It just seems strange that these grown-ass men, and it's not just one, two, three. It's like eight of them talking about snitching at this age. It's like, we've got to get to a point where we've got to move on. We can't even think about the next.
Starting point is 01:17:06 negativity like these brothers are making money legally a lot of it and to go back and to do all that it just sounds stupid and everybody knows these calls are taped yeah the streets are so exhausting and corny like we got to start clowning people that are in the street I don't judge people for what they do
Starting point is 01:17:22 in survival mode but man when you know better you have to do better and at this point we have more than enough examples of why the streets are corny so we should really start clowning people who make these poor life choices that either land you in jail dead or label to snitch That's the only three options I ever see.
Starting point is 01:17:39 Well, Pete kind of said something to the effect of what you're trying to say. Like, this is, this or all has been dead. Like, we need to move on. Yeah, that's when I saw the first thing. I saw what P was saying. From QC. Yes. Yeah, he said we need more.
Starting point is 01:17:48 Well, I do have a Gunna's speech that he gave to the run club because I thought it was like, it was very timely for like, okay, let's just move on. Let's take a listen to Gunna. I feel like everyone in here, you're taking that step to just like push yourself. And you, who knows how far you're going to go and where you're going to go. It ain't up to me and stuff of God. You drove yourself to this gym We didn't make you come here
Starting point is 01:18:08 You push yourself to come So catch yourself on the back I thank y'all for coming here too Because it's like it's a beginning Or something that's gonna be way bigger That I didn't ever see But like just showing up like Y'all day one for this shit
Starting point is 01:18:22 Like y'all motivate me to just like damn Somebody's showing up not to just hear my music Like you just come work out with you though To really feel that We'd be going through when we want to get it out in the gym Because we'd be fighting shit Everything ain't easy So once again, thank y'all for coming
Starting point is 01:18:37 and pushing me to keep going too because all my day won, 100%. And in the press release for The Run Club, it says Gunna has spent the last two years on a powerful physical and mental transformation. So, you know, good to see. You can definitely tell. Yeah, I don't know, he looks like it.
Starting point is 01:18:53 He definitely looks happier at peace. Yes. And what's sad about this is young thug became a victim of an environment that he created. Yeah. Because if he hadn't been so hard on Gunna, people wouldn't be so hard on him right now. Oh, my God, yes.
Starting point is 01:19:06 And because of how he treated Gunner, he created these rules of engagement that now these street artists, and I put street artists in air quotes, are going to be forced to use on him. He should have listened to 21 Savage. Okay, 21 Savage gave Young Thug the best advice in this whole situation.
Starting point is 01:19:23 If he would have moved, like 21 told him to move, none of this would be happening. Why did 21 tell him to move? He told him that we just played the audio. Oh, that part, okay. Yeah, when he told him, like, listen, like he did what was best for him. him y'all all she did what was best for y'all and let him like let's move on us and he told him you
Starting point is 01:19:37 hold your your career in his hand like yes like it wasn't that deep true especially being the people around you did the same exact thing and the person who took the charge took the charge so both of y'all should have been like well i ain't got nothing to do this wasn't that deep y'all should have kept the music that's why i don't understand why people conflate the two between the streets and the music when you get the opportunity to do something legit and you get the opportunity to make money legit focus on that you cannot live two lives people well what does thug do now because to your point i went and checked his twitter he on the 27th he retweeted the thugger daily page the fan page that talked about the interrogation video and the retweet he posted says y'all are so gullible
Starting point is 01:20:18 and hurt nothing that thug said can be misconstrued for snitching so he feels like he has to explain himself what does he do from here listen i don't care who's snitching or who not snitching to me you know a thug need a record thug need a slap Doug need one of them joints He need one of them ones That's what Gunna did Gunna came out and gave you a few of them ones Twice, he dropped twice
Starting point is 01:20:38 The album that had bread and butter on it And now the last one Yeah, but he gave you that slap What F you mean? You need a record Like you need a record Nobody care about who you tell it Why do I care if somebody snitching or not?
Starting point is 01:20:49 I got a nice bidet at the house Okay, I am gay for my bidet Do you think I give a damn about who's telling? Ain't no bade he's in prison Exactly I don't give a damn about who telling Who's now like why would I care All right well
Starting point is 01:20:59 That is the latest with Lauren. Sholomey, who are you giving that donkey, too? Man, four after the hour. Boy, speaking of staying away from these young niggas. There's a man named Assis Campos Torres, who's 19-year-old. He needs to come to the front of the congregation. We need to have a word with him. This man killing people at baptism.
Starting point is 01:21:14 We'll talk about it. We'll talk about it. God damn it. All right, we'll get to that next. It's the breakfast club. Good morning. Some donkey todays just saw themselves. I've been watching, Charler.
Starting point is 01:21:25 I've been watching, Charlie, man. I was ready for you. I never heard a donkey other day. What is it? I'm a donkey. Say it again, Shaoliname. I'm a donkey. Yes.
Starting point is 01:21:35 You are a junk. I'll show you how to have a donkey. Everything that's Charlemagne is true. Yes, donkey today for Tuesday, September 2nd, goes to a 19-year-old man named Assis Campos Torres. Assis has been charged with murder. He murdered a 35-year-old man named Christian Gabriel Montez, R-I-P to that man,
Starting point is 01:21:56 sending his family healing and energy in stories like this is why. believe segregation was a great concept that was poorly executed okay it should have never been based on race it should have been based on behavior and if you're based on behavior then you're probably going to segregate based on age see a 19 year old and a 35 year old don't got no business being around each other in 2025 okay unless they like your close relative like your child right nephew niece maybe a cousin cousins cousins pushing it okay mixing these y with us older folks is like mixing chicken with pork and I don't eat swine okay I don't have time to be around these young ins whose frontal cortex hasn't developed yet but here's
Starting point is 01:22:35 the problem okay you grown doing grown things somebody invites one of these youngers to your grown folks function and then one of these youngans ruins the party what do you mean one of these youngans ruins the party uncle charlowe will let me explain this young 19 year old man shot a 35 year old man at a baptism for the man's son I repeat this This young, 19-year-old man shot and killed a 35-year-old man at a baptism for the man's son. A baptism, a public declaration of one's commitment to follow Jesus. Now, I'm going to tell you something. Both of these brothers was out of the line, okay?
Starting point is 01:23:14 Christian, according to witnesses, confronted the 19-year-old about the 19-year-old firing a handgun earlier in the evening near Christian's parked vehicle. That right there would have been enough for me. Okay. If I wasn't choosing to call the police on that young man after that, then I am going to choose to not be around him and I'm going to choose to not have him around me. If I saw him fire a gun near my vehicle earlier that day and I didn't call the police, I'm telling the whole family, I don't want a cease at my son's baptism. Keep that foolishness away from me. I don't want him around full stop. But the cease still came. And Christian, according to witnesses, confronted him about firing the gun. they got the scrapping and that young man
Starting point is 01:23:55 went and got his pistol and shot Christian okay he claimed it was in self-defense because he got hands put on him but medical staff say he had at least two gunshot wounds one to his upper chest
Starting point is 01:24:04 and one to his back which suggests he was shot more than once and possibly tried to turn away Arfell I can give you multiple reasons why I don't like to be around
Starting point is 01:24:15 any youngans unless it's in a mentorship capacity okay the list is long number one the musical disconnect okay y'all arguing about who the goat between Yeat and Ice Spice.
Starting point is 01:24:24 Us old head still arguing about who really won between Nas and Jay-Z. Okay, the fact that we all need slang translators. Okay, these kids be saying Riz and gai. Yeah! Meanwhile, I'm over here
Starting point is 01:24:35 being gay for my bidet. Okay? I need to be around people who can name at least six members of Wu-Tang. I need to be around people who can sing, I love you by Mary J. Blige verbatim.
Starting point is 01:24:45 Do you know the contra code? Huh? Do you have to sit down for a second after swag surfing? Do you have to go get a cold glass of water after whiling out the knuck a few bucks. See, if that is the case, then you are my people.
Starting point is 01:24:58 Okay, you in my age bracket. We all just trying to get home to our kids after a night of grown folks fun. By the way, this don't happen for us at clubs. Not no more. Okay, it happens at wedding receptions and alumni parties. This with those little jitterbugs, those little Y-Ns, shouldn't be invited.
Starting point is 01:25:14 Okay, unless they are close, close family. But this story might even be debunking that theory, because this was a family function. this was a family gathering okay not just any family gathering a baptism the only blood we should have been thinking about
Starting point is 01:25:30 in this moment was the blood of Jesus but instead the poor brother's Christian blood was spilled because of a young man who made a permanent decision based off a temporary emotion please give a cease compost Torres the biggest he all that's sad
Starting point is 01:25:49 sad is an understatement all right well thank you for that donkey today sir now when we come back let's open up the phone lines 800 585 101 you know the u.s. opens in town and the match had to be stopped the other day that's because a tennis star her name is carolina muchova or mikova a macava mochova one of the five you're trying to be wrong
Starting point is 01:26:13 no one in a five you're trying to prove you don't need to be deported so bad one of the five uh she was playing in the u.s. open she looked understands and she's seen her ex-boyfriend. Here's the news report. This match was briefly interrupted after World Number 13, Carolina Mohova spotted her ex-boyfriend in the crowd. Mohova was serving down in the first set when it became clear that she was upset. She stopped a few times to wipe her eyes. The umpire asked if she was okay. The commentators were trying to work out what was going on. She's normally a player that stays pretty even keeled, so this something is definitely bothering her for her to have this reaction right now.
Starting point is 01:26:49 This went down in the second U.S. Open round, Mohova against Serranica Steyer, a match that Mohova did go on to win, but the ex-boyfriend part of it all only became clear in the post-match press conference. In a script translated by the athletic, Mohova said, opposite my bench, my ex-boyfriend sat down. He sometimes shows up at places where he shouldn't be. That startled me a bit. I told him to leave.
Starting point is 01:27:10 He didn't, but later he did go. Poor young lady. So the question, 800-585-105-1. Has an ex ever showed up? at the wrong time or wrong spot. That's crazy. That's wild. You're a tennis player in the U.S. Open.
Starting point is 01:27:26 You shouldn't even be looking at the stands. But he sat right behind the bench. So when she walked to the bench, he was probably sitting there like with a big ass grin on. That's diabolical. We also don't know what she's been through with this young man. That's my thing. So when you see a person,
Starting point is 01:27:38 you start reliving all that trauma and all the things that this person puts you through. I totally get it. But she's supposed to use that is fuel rage and go and beat that person's ass on. You know, like, in tennis, obviously, but, like, you use that as rage. Now, I do understand what y'all saying because he probably, the breakup is probably recent. What if he broke up with her the day before?
Starting point is 01:28:01 Or what if they broke up or she broke up with him the week before, whatever. If it was recent, I get it, but it's like, yo, this is the U.S. open. But it could have been years ago, and maybe he put so much trauma on her. It's almost like the boogeyman. So what you see is like, oh, yeah. Well, let's open up the phone lines. 800-585-105-1. Has this happened to you?
Starting point is 01:28:18 let's discuss it's the breakfast club good morning that's great the breakfast club morning everybody is EJ NV Jets hilarious Sholomey and the guy we are the breakfast club if you're just
Starting point is 01:28:32 joining us we open up the phone lines 800 58551051 we're talking about U.S. Open star Carolina Mukova Mukova, Mukova I don't know the bright way to say it I'm saying it in a bunch of different names
Starting point is 01:28:45 I hate when you try to act like you're not Dominican I'm not Dominican, and she's not, she's from Czech. She's like, she's not Spanish. But anyway, she was talking about her match the other day where she broke down crime because she's seen her ex, let's listen. This match was briefly interrupted after World Number 13, Carolina Mohova spotted her ex-boyfriend in the crowd. Mohova was serving down in the first set
Starting point is 01:29:07 when it became clear that she was upset. She stopped a few times to wipe her eyes. The umpire asked if she was okay. The commentators were trying to work out what was going on. She's normally a player that stays pretty even, So this, something is definitely bothering her to her, for her to have this reaction right now. This went down in the second US open round, Mohova against Serranica Steyer. A match that Mohova did go on to win, but the ex-boyfriend part of it all only became clear in the post-match press conference.
Starting point is 01:29:33 In a script translated by the athletic, Mohova said, opposite my bench, my ex-boyfriend sat down. He sometimes shows up at places where he shouldn't be. That startled me a bit. I told him to leave. He didn't, but later he did go. So we're asking 800-5-8-5-105-1 has an ex- My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly And now I'm seriously suspicious
Starting point is 01:29:54 Well, wait a minute, Sam, Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit Well, Dakota, it's back to school week On the OK Storytime podcast So we'll find out soon This person writes, My boyfriend has been hanging out With his young professor a lot
Starting point is 01:30:06 He doesn't think it's a problem But I don't trust her Now he's insisting we get to know each other But I just want her gone Now hold up, isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating.
Starting point is 01:30:22 He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? Has this ever happened to you? No.
Starting point is 01:33:13 To be honest, no. My exes ain't never show up at the wrong time. In fact, they show up at the right time to get their ass roasted and they get their ass on one. But no. Have you ever showed up at one of your ex's places at the wrong time or anywhere with your ex at the wrong time? You know what? I heard stories. You heard stories.
Starting point is 01:33:28 No, you did not. You're hitting nothing about me. Nothing. You're lying because the whole world would have been new if you knew. So no. No, that's never happened. Hello, who's this? What's up, y'all?
Starting point is 01:33:38 This is Bree. Hey, Bree. What's us, Bree? Now, Bree. Hi. Hi. Has the ex ever shown them at the wrong time for you, Bree? Yes.
Starting point is 01:33:47 First, I want to start by saying, hey, NV. Shal and me, Jess. I love you all. Hey, boo. Good morning. And y'all, I'm glad y'all got me on because I really could show out one day because I can never get through. But now I see y'all like a.
Starting point is 01:34:00 But anyway, yeah. So I co-parent with my daughter's dad, and we would have a meeting place on Sunday Waffle House. My ex knew that because we was together for like five years sometimes. He would take me. So after we broke up, I left him in the dust, change my number. I moved. He said, oh, I know where to find her.
Starting point is 01:34:21 That man was at the Waffle House on a Sunday. So when my daughter's dad, they pulled off, I looked like, who's blocking me in? This man then blocked me in, jumped out the car with flowers trying to get me back. Y'all, I was fair for my life. You isn't fair for your life? I was because he was so aggressive. That's why I left me. I was like, oh, you can't show it would flowers.
Starting point is 01:34:44 Oh, babe. No, it was so crazy. So I was like, oh, my God. I played it nice until he moved the car. And I was like, yeah, I'm going to see you later. That's my real nothing. Damn. I'm shocked you didn't call the pulley.
Starting point is 01:34:59 That would have made it worse. He don't give a dab about the police. I did that before. It made worse. No. So, yes, it definitely showed. at the while. But you know, it's strange though because, like, I don't want somebody
Starting point is 01:35:12 like you, Bree, to have to deal with this guy so you get out there one situation, but then what about the next situation? Or the next situation? Like she said, if he doesn't care about police, it might make it worse. Right, and that's why I haven't put myself. I don't even mess with him to do tomorrow. I'm single. I don't even care.
Starting point is 01:35:28 Like, I don't deal with nobody. Because I'm just like, right now, I'm just finding me because that relationship, that relationship. Because it wasn't that long. So right now, I'm just like, you know, in a better place. My daughter's a senior in high school. I'm focused on that.
Starting point is 01:35:41 I'm happy for you, Grimmie. Yeah, I am too, man. Hello, who's this? It's KK. from Brownsville. He's good, uncles, with good, aunties.
Starting point is 01:35:49 What's up, K. That's good. Talk to us. What happened with you, KK.? So my story is my ex-girl showed up to my birthday party with the girl
Starting point is 01:35:59 that I cheated on her with. But that's not the end of the story. You're kind of a legend already, but I want to hear more. Oh, Lee. My current girl was there with me. with the girl that I'm cheating on her with. So all of them, they're at the same time.
Starting point is 01:36:13 So all my friends noticed that, so they got the cameras in our faces now. Now they're trying to see what's going to go down. So I'm sneaky, so I know how to maneuver. So the thing is I left before they even sung happy birthday. So I'm like, I'm out of here, you know what I'm saying? So now they all wondering where I'm at. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:36:31 It's all on camera. It's all on camera. It's all I send it to you out. Let me tell you something. First of all, how old are you, number one? I'm 34. You're way too over that kind of behavior. Number two, you're not sneaky because you said all your people knew what was going on.
Starting point is 01:36:43 Real sneaky is nobody knowing you don't knock any of them ladies off except for you and them ladies. Nah, but you know I'm saying the bros. No, you don't tell your bros nothing. Your bros don't need to know nothing. Move and silence, young brother. You're right, you're right. But now grow up, though. You ain't got to do that no more.
Starting point is 01:37:02 Grow up. Please grow. All right, all right. Yeah, you are too old. for that. 34 is way too old for that kind of behavior. If you're just joining us, we're asking, has her ex ever shown up at the wrong time? That's because during the U.S. Open,
Starting point is 01:37:14 one of the tennis players, she broke down crying because her ex was in the stands. Let's listen. This match was briefly interrupted after World Number 13, Carolina Mohova spotted her ex-boyfriend in the crowd. Mohova was serving down in the first set when it became clear that she was upset.
Starting point is 01:37:30 She stopped a few times to wipe her eyes. The umpire asked if she was okay. The commentators were trying to work out what was going going on. She's normally a player that stays pretty even keeled, so this, something is definitely bothering her for her to have this reaction right now. This went down in the second U.S. Open round, Mohova against Seronica Stayer, a match that Mohova did go on to win, but the ex-boyfriend part of it all only became clear
Starting point is 01:37:53 in the post-match press conference. In a script translated by the athletic, Mohova said, opposite my bench, my ex-boyfriend sat down. He sometimes shows up at places where he shouldn't be. That startled me a bit. I told him to leave. He didn't, but later he did go. So we're asking 800-585-105-1, has this ever happened to you?
Starting point is 01:38:12 We got Charlie on the line. Charlie, what's up? Hey, what's going on? Brotherton, how you're doing? Hey, hey, Charlie. All right, all right. Good morning, good morning, yeah. Charlie, Jr., you're from Jacksonville, Florida.
Starting point is 01:38:23 Now, talk to us, brother. Hey, hey, man, let me tell you about this crazy-ass ex. So I'm chilling one night, man. I had something fly in real fine. We're chilling. Got the balcony door open. Wine, music, man. We're feeling good.
Starting point is 01:38:35 And why my ex came through the balcony Came through my balcony Doe, man She thinks she's Santa Claus She thought she was Santa Claus? Yeah, man Check this out
Starting point is 01:38:46 And trade part about it I'm on the second floor How she clevered She'll stood on her home girl She'll stood on her home girl shoulders And pulled herself up Over my goddamn balcony She's strong
Starting point is 01:38:56 Legend I was in the military man So you know I was dealing with the athletic women man Damn So man I'm trying to break them up man and watch I finally calm her down I say I say Keith you can't be doing this man
Starting point is 01:39:09 you're doing this to yourself man I guess I knew she was crazy and she left the same way she came in jumped over the goddamn back and lading on her feet legend damn well my whole night man
Starting point is 01:39:20 and she won the fight so she climbed up the balcony beat your girl up oh she need to be doing and the other girl was just as her lady and I'm a disabled veteran so I'm like man I'm gonna talk so you don't both be out
Starting point is 01:39:32 she need to be an action hero I'm going to call her back and be her agent. We need to get her in some action moves. Jesus Christ. Hello, who's this? This is Amy. Amy, good morning. Talk to us.
Starting point is 01:39:44 What happened with you, Amy? Oh, yeah. So I had an ex pull up on me one night at karaoke. Yeah, that's definitely not the move. So I had posted on Facebook that I was going to karaoke to actually post it where we were going. And he showed up, he was right there in the front, with the full smud look on his face. And when I realized he was out there, I just took the whole microphone
Starting point is 01:40:06 and just threw it right in the face. Damn. Damn. Yeah, it'd be like that sometimes. So I agree with her response. What did he do to you that triggered you? Because that's what I was saying earlier. She probably saw him and remembered some trauma.
Starting point is 01:40:18 Like, what did he do that really, you know, set you off? Absolutely. He used to follow places. Even, like, during the relationship, he was just like a very controlling type of person. Like, I couldn't move without, you know, him knowing where I was going. and if I didn't call back or answer my phone
Starting point is 01:40:34 in a certain amount of time, it was a problem. So he gave me stalker by. So to see his face, like, oh, no, you can't just be where I'm at randomly like that because now I feel like I've got to defend myself. Gotcha. Got you. All right, thank you, Mama.
Starting point is 01:40:49 You're welcome. What's the moral of the story, guys? To me, the moral of the story is knowing when to leave people alone and give them space is an underappreciative skill. Because if you know this person don't want to be around you, but you're still coming in this person's space and coming into the environments that they're in, you're trying to eff with this person.
Starting point is 01:41:05 You're trying to effort with this person's mental. You're trying to mess with this person emotionally. To me, that's whack. So knowing when to leave people alone and give them spaces is an underappreciative skill. All right. Well, we got the latest with Lauren coming up, so don't go anywhere.
Starting point is 01:41:17 It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. I just want to remind folks that my fifth annual Mental Wealth Expo is happening October 11th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Newark, New Jersey at the Joel and
Starting point is 01:41:31 Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. It is a day of mental health education and healing. In honor of World Mental Health Day, some of the best mental health professionals in the business, Debbie Brown, Dr. Alfie Briland Noble, Dr. Jay Barnett, Elliot Connie, Jason Wilson will all be there
Starting point is 01:41:47 just to name a few. And it is a free a bit. Free! Yes, we'll see you October 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Newark, New Jersey. I just want to, I want to take the time and remind everybody that the promo, cool, for messyvision, Iwear.com. It's still wake.
Starting point is 01:42:02 This is the last week. The promo code is going to be weak. It's coming. It hasn't arrived yet. I hope the tariffs will let my stuff through. But either way, thank y'all breakfast club listeners. Use the promo code Wade, Wake, W-A-K-E to get 20% off of any pair of messy vision. Iware.com.
Starting point is 01:42:18 All right. Well, let's get to the latest with Lauren. Lauren becoming a straight bat. She gets them from somebody that knows somebody. She gets to detail. I'm a home girl that knows a little bit about everything. She'd be having the latest on this thing.
Starting point is 01:42:33 The latest with Lauren La Rosa. Sometimes you have facts, sometimes you have details, sometimes you have a little bit of everything. Well, it's the latest. On the breakfast club. Kaisenat, or Kaisenet, has begin Mafia Thon 3, which is where he streams 24-7, you know,
Starting point is 01:42:51 all day long, all night long, and he brings guests on and all the things. So yesterday it kicked off. It was lit. So it kicked off with Miles Canton, and who is the nephew or the little cousin on the center. Yes.
Starting point is 01:43:02 He sung. Yes, he's sung in the intro of it. And then Kaisanat came on with Jabbawhaki's. Drop a bomb for that. He practiced that. That wasn't just, he, they did a whole set. It was dope. By the way, Jabalaki's going to be doing nothing for nobody.
Starting point is 01:43:19 For them to pull up his Kaisenet's scream says a lot. They had to come days before because they had a whole dancing routine. That was the last time I seen him do that was with Shaq. back in the day an all-star game yeah it was fire and then at the top of the stream Lola Blasian baby Lola
Starting point is 01:43:35 Lola Clark she came in here to the breakfast club yeah she's so beautiful yeah she's doing like a daily news thing with Mafia Thon so she's like the news anchor
Starting point is 01:43:43 so she gives you like the updates of like what's happening within the stream and in the chat and all the things so she appeared yesterday Kim Kardashian
Starting point is 01:43:50 was his first guest on the stream she popped out yesterday God got it oh no baby this is a full production so brilliant been that
Starting point is 01:43:57 yeah don't play with Kai. So yeah, so she kicked it off as his first guest, Kim Kardashian. She was there saying, I didn't see Northwest in the stream, and we know Northwest loves Kai, yeah, that's one of my favorite stream. Maybe she'll come later on in the stream, but Kim did, you know,
Starting point is 01:44:12 sat down and had some conversations with them, and she talked a bit about homework with them. Let's take a listen. Rikai is doing a lot of crazy stuff. He's not doing his homework on time. Like, he got to start this month, I want him to do his homework. I don't give a damn if goddamn no school started, you're going to start that goddamn home. Because you're too young to be on the video games all day.
Starting point is 01:44:31 We be in the gym. You'll be waking up late. You got to do your homework, man. You have to. I don't believe in homework. Talk that to you. That's why I'm like, you know what? You know what I'm going to tell you why?
Starting point is 01:44:45 Because like, kids are in school for eight hours a day. When they come home, like they need to also do sports, have a money, spend time with their family. I think the homework should be left for like in school. You know, like you shouldn't have to. You'll be a good teacher. Thank you. You'll be a good teacher. I agree.
Starting point is 01:45:03 That is a valid point. I agree with that. That is very valid. I agree on that. Even back when my son went to a charter school, yo, all they do is work. They get these big, thick packets for homework almost every other day. Shout out to, you know, Kip Harmony, the charter school.
Starting point is 01:45:19 But I just always felt like that was too much. I think so, too. Way too much. And they spend most of their day in school already. Right. On the weekends, like they should be able to. Chew. Like you said, if a kid has any activity, they're done school between 2 and 3 o'clock,
Starting point is 01:45:33 then their activity usually starts at 4, so they get an hour to eat, and then they're in their activity for 2, 3 hours, that's 7. By the time they're home and eat with their family, then they got to do homework, or I should say, then the parents got to do homework? No, it's a lot. It's definitely a lot. Now, I do believe in home projects. Now, home projects should be sent home like the little science projects or the art
Starting point is 01:45:51 projects, something like that. But, like, homework every day. I do not like that. Well. And summer stuff, too, because my daughter's was up late last. finish in their summer projects crazy what do you get okay I didn't know you got projects over the summer yes okay yeah my daughter had to do four of them wow okay well also too so what Kai is doing throughout the stream if he gets to one million
Starting point is 01:46:12 subs and last I saw it was seven hours ago he's at 130,000 he gets to one million LeBron will come and cut off his dreads on stream and also 15% of the revenue from Mafia thine three is going to the school that he's building that Kaysanat is building Kastanet is building in Nigeria. So he had some reps come on and talking and updates about that as well too. But another thing he is doing and when I saw this I was like, wait, what? Is that Gabe?
Starting point is 01:46:36 He has a on the radar room set up in the house. Let's take a listen to Gabe popping up on Mafia Thorn 3. Now, in the room that we couldn't see last time, everybody going to, right here we got my brother on the radar in the building
Starting point is 01:46:52 on the radar. Yes, sir, baby. We're here. In the We're here. We're here. Nice. A lot of the times, this is where we're able to record music here. Yep, record music. We'll be able to have the guests come in and do live freestyles.
Starting point is 01:47:08 Host, co-hosts. On the Radar X Mafiathon. This is the radio station, okay? This will be the radio station. We have a lot of people that are going to come through, freestyle, and get out. If you want to record a song in here, we can. Dad's already came and asked. Yep.
Starting point is 01:47:24 I think it would be cool if we had a lot. if we had smaller artists come through here. Yeah, I agree. And have a chance at something. All right, appreciate you, brother. My boy. Droving the theme bomb for Gabe P on the radar. By the way, that's what Gabe already does.
Starting point is 01:47:36 Yeah. He already has, you know, artists that aren't necessarily the biggest come on there and freestyle. Yeah, he already doing it on a way bigger platform, which is dope, dope, dope. Which is why I never understand when they do these hip-hopulous complex, I'm talking to you. How is Gabe P not ranked super high on these hip-hop lists when he's got the premier freestyle how a platform for rap was for the last few years, right? What are we talking about?
Starting point is 01:47:59 Yeah, I thought that that was... Drake pulled up the on-the-radar. Consistent with it. Big Sean. Big Mill. Drake has done it numerous times. Not just once. He did it a couple of times. He did it.
Starting point is 01:48:07 He did it one with Central C and I think he did it some other time. No, I just remember it with Central C. I think you're wrong about that. I might be quick. It's the place to go. If you're trying to break an artist is where you're supposed to be at.
Starting point is 01:48:16 So I don't understand that either. But I thought it was so fire when I saw it. And I thought it was like, with Kai, I thought the balance of everything. Like he still knows what's going on But then it's like big You have all these huge celebrities there So I thought it was great
Starting point is 01:48:26 Kickoff night Kyle got his boys on there Right like he got the I saw Reggie on there I haven't watched the whole screen yet I tried to watch the full one last night I fell asleep I'm like how do they have energy for this long
Starting point is 01:48:35 But yeah he got all the guys on that That's who Kim Kardashian was talking to So they sat down They're having conversations with it They're doing all the stunts They're doing all the things That they normally do It's just you know
Starting point is 01:48:44 Right now people are paying I guess even more attention than they were before But Kai has been moving Very well put together I love Kai I love that And also shout out to I Show Speed.
Starting point is 01:48:53 He did something real big over the weekend as well. So, yeah, shout out to him as well. Well, in other news, I don't know. My son told me. Since we're on streamers, shout out the A Show Speed. Yes, yes. Oh, no, I saw it. He was with...
Starting point is 01:49:07 My son bought it up, told me briefly. No, he was with an athlete. Yeah, and it was big. It was something. I don't know. My son told me... Damn, I saw it, too. I saw it.
Starting point is 01:49:17 I'm looking right at it. Excuse me? No, I'm saying. I know the guy who tried to say I look like eye show you need to calm down. Wow. Wow. What are you trying to say to?
Starting point is 01:49:25 I'm trying to say that it's her twin. No, he was with, um... Talking about I'm looking at it right now you're looking at the door chain. Calm down. One second. All right. Well, shout out to I show show speed. Oh, no, he was with Rick Ross.
Starting point is 01:49:38 That's what I'm not. I know I'm not tripping. I thought I was going to speak with Rick Ross too. Yeah, because what do you mean he was looking at it? No, because yeah, you was looking at me when he said it. No, I mean that I saw it in my head the whole time. I just couldn't remember who he was with. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:49:50 People say I do look like Ice Show Street. nobody ever said that the latest one who are these crew people that would say such a thing to you and why didn't I think about that beforehand no they're not even going to hold you look at him y'all do look like y'all could be related like a lie and that's why I'm here to see and you letting her
Starting point is 01:50:07 walking around with a chain on all day long and not saying nothing but she just said you look like I shall speak you see what I'm saying everybody said yeah well stop playing with that damn chain every time you walk through the holes people think it's a dog coming to I just want you to know that this is the break every change Chain, chain. Shout out to Beyond Metro. And I want to tell y'all, we, speaking of breaking, breaking some news this weekend. I did an interview with Marpreem Shakur, who was the brother of Tupac Shakur, talking about Drake in the chain or not Tupac chain that he posted that he brought in.
Starting point is 01:50:37 Maupreem has some thoughts. He says that Drake's family should have the chain. So go over to the latest with Lauren of Rose of the podcast to listen to that interview in full week. We had it, but we don't have enough time to play. All right. Well, that is the latest with Lauren. It mixes up next. It's the breakfast club. Good morning. M.V. Just hilarious. Shalameen de Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. We got a salute to Coach K. That's right. Me and my wife work. All right. And I'm just mad that they bought these bojingles, boberry biscuits up here this morning.

Had an amazing time in Virginia, Friday, and Saturday. Salute to Pusha T, family, Antonio. Concert was amazing.

Starting point is 01:52:26 do you get nervous when you go over to Baltimore absolutely why because that's the only city I go to and I get nervous to be honest with you yeah because you know to people yeah because I know I don't I don't get nervous on well I always get like butterflies before I go on any stage I mean that's just that's just what it is right but I'm never nervous
Starting point is 01:52:44 in front of anybody except for Baltimore because they expect so much out of you I know what they were I know how talk. I know, you know what I mean, but it's like they, it's different. They're going to hold you to the highest standard. Exactly. Because you want to them. Yes. You know what I mean? So they want to make sure you out there
Starting point is 01:53:00 representing rights. Yes. And it's a different level of stud in Baltimore. Most definitely. My favorite studs are Baltimore's your line. Yes, it is. Baltimore and Philly. Yeah. Baltimore and Philly got the best touch. Crazy. Well, yeah, I do get nervous for Baltimore for sure. Now, I supported you in the Bronx. I ain't going to Baltimore.

Lauren inspired us because she walking around this chain around her neck looking like she got a pit bull starter kit going on. But chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken. You understand what I just said? Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.
