Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist who on October 16, 2017, was assassinated. Crooks Everywhere unearthed the plot to murder a one-woman WikiLeaks. She exposed the culture of crime and corruption that were turning her beloved country into a mafia state.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Listen to Crooks Everywhere on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, I'm Marie. And I'm Sydney. And we're Mess. Well, not a mess, but on our podcast called Mess, we celebrate all things messy. But the gag is, not everything is a mess. Sometimes it's just living. Yeah, things
Starting point is 00:02:28 like J-Lo on her third divorce. Living. Girls trip to Miami. Mess. Breaking up with your girlfriend while on Instagram live. Living. Living. It's kind of mess. Yeah. Well, you get it. Got it? Live, love, mess. Listen to Mess
Starting point is 00:02:44 with Sydney Washington and Marie Faustin on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Wake your ass up. The Breakfast Club is on. Wake up! The Breakfast Club, Envy, and Charlamagne, the voice of the culture. You think I'm going to come here when this shit ain't hot? See, y'all are different. Y'all are the culture. It's different, you know what I'm saying? Like, y'all know what y'all talking about.
Starting point is 00:03:08 This is probably becoming the most prominent forum for hip-hop. Being here next to all of you guys, it's really big. Breakfast, breakfast back here. The Breakfast Club, bitches. Wake up! Good morning, USA! Hey, what's happening? Yes, it's Friday. The weekend is here. How you feeling? It's the weekend, damn it.
Starting point is 00:03:48 Yes. Yes, I feel blessed, black, and highly favored. I don't feel like thinking this morning, okay? I want you to remember that all morning long. I don't really feel like thinking too much, okay? It's Friday. So don't be throwing those stories out here and stuff that require a whole lot of thought, okay? Oh, now we got a lot to talk about this morning.? Oh, now we got a lot to talk about this morning.
Starting point is 00:04:06 No, no, we got a lot to talk about this morning. I mean, there's so much to talk about today. It's going to be a great day. We can talk about the Florida nursing schools that sold 7,600 fake diplomas, you know, for nurses to help people out there. Florida nursing schools. Yes. How they sell fake diplomas. Why would you want a fake diploma as a nurse?
Starting point is 00:04:26 You can't fake being a nurse, can you? Well, I guess it's not like nurses doing surgery and stuff, right? Yeah, well, we're going to be talking about that. We're going to talk about this kid that got kicked out of a school. White quarterback got kicked out of a school because he said the word nigger. And then HBCU gave him a full scholarship for it. Well, not for that but for playing football that that that don't require no thought that's just like man niggas is too
Starting point is 00:04:49 forgiving that's all that's all that's easy what else all right i gotta stop so i gotta stop saying n-word man see you telling me see you're making me think and you're telling me stories that make me say the n-word okay i don't want to i don't want to say the n-word in 2023 there's a whole lot to discuss. Netflix. If you're a Netflixer like me and you pay for one Netflix subscription, but your mama use it, your papa use it, your daughter use it, everybody use it, Netflix, they ain't not
Starting point is 00:05:13 having that no more. They're going to crack down, start in March. So if you share your password... Drop on a Clues bomb for Netflix. Wait, why? Stop. That don't require much thought either. Because y'all bastards is cheap. Y'all bastards is cheap. Drop on a Clues bomb for Netflix, okay? That don't require much thought either. Because y'all bastards is cheap. Y'all bastards is cheap. Drop one of Clues bombs for Netflix, okay?
Starting point is 00:05:28 That don't require no thought from me. That's an easy one. Easy. Easy call. And another lady put her mother on blast because, you know, she wanted her mom to babysit her child. And mom said, sure, I'll do it, but I need $20 an hour plus overtime. Drop one of Clues bombs for grandma. I'm all for it. I need $20 an hour plus overtime. Drop one of Clues' bombs for Grandma. I'm all for it.
Starting point is 00:05:47 I'm all for it. Okay, the government out here trying to cut Social Security. Elders got to make money where they can. I'm not mad at it, all right? Grandmas are not built-in babysitters. I know they seem like it, but throw Grandma some money. You know what's so interesting? I had a homegirl the other day.
Starting point is 00:06:01 I was talking to my homegirl, and she was telling me about how she wanted to throw her mama a little change, because you know the mama be watching the child and stuff like that. So she wanted to help her mama with her rent that month. I respect that. Who told us that grandma is supposed to be doing this for free? Because your grandma did it for free, and my grandma did it for free. Well, guess what?
Starting point is 00:06:23 You pay a babysitter. Yeah. So why not throw your grandma a little bit? Why not throw your mama a little bit of change? Especially if your mama, like, you know, still live on her own. You know what I mean? Her mama still got bills to pay. Mama still got to keep groceries in the store.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Why not throw your mama a little change for watching her grandkids? You should do that. I respect it. I'm all for it. I mean, you should. Now, y'all keep it up. I'm going to push for grandmas to get benefits. No, it should.
Starting point is 00:06:44 But you shouldn't require it. I don't think... When I went to grandma's house, my parents never paid them. You might have brought some groceries because you drank up all the juice and ate all the food, but you didn't pay them no money. I'm not about to get in the way of grandma's pockets. If grandma wanted to charge to watch the kids, grandma could charge to watch the kids, okay? I ain't mad at it.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Well, we got front page news next. We got a lot to talk about. I mentioned some of the stories, and we'll get into it next. It's Friday. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
Starting point is 00:07:16 We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get in some front page news. Now, if you're into football, you like football, that shit thing. I mean, I'm not really into it. But the Eagles are taking on the 49ers this Sunday at 3. Now, if you're into football, you like football, that shit thing, I mean, I'm not really into it. But the Eagles are taking on the 49ers this Sunday at 3, and the Bengals take on the Chiefs at 6.30 p.m. Now, this is the conference championships that happen this weekend. So we'll see what happens with that.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Yep, NFC championship, AFC championship. Who you got? Who you got? Eagles, and depending on Mahone's leg, if Mahone's leg is good money, I say Eagles-Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Who you got? Yeah, I don't think, I think the Bengals over the Chiefs. I think for whatever reason, Joe Burrows has the Chiefs number. And Eagles 49ers, I don't care. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:08:03 But if I had to pick, I'd pick the Eagles. Yeah. All right. Well, let's talk about this Portland woman who was trying to get gas. You know, she had her car and just wanted to fuel her car. When she walked in to get gas, the attendant said, you know what, ma'am? I'm sorry. We don't serve black people.
Starting point is 00:08:20 I went to a gas station to get gas for service and I wasn't served. I was actually humiliated and disrespected. The attendant working that day ignored her and filled up other cars that had arrived later than she had. Surveillance video shows Wakefield go inside to ask for help. Another employee followed her back outside to pump her gas. As Wakefield was leaving, the attendant told her, I don't serve black people, and laughed in her face. Well, she was awarded $1 million for that incident and damage.
Starting point is 00:08:57 That's crazy. So congratulations to her. And this incident happened three years ago. I heard the attendant got a scholarship to an HBCU. Is that true? Shut up, man. That's not true? No, that's not true. That didn't happen three years ago. I heard the attendant got a scholarship to an HBCU. Is that true? Shut up, man. That's not true? No, that's not true.
Starting point is 00:09:08 That didn't happen? No, that's not true. Well, drop on a clothes bomb for that young woman, man. She got a million dollars from a gas station, and she ain't even had to play no scratch off. I'm not mad at it. Not one. Now, Florida Nursing School sold 7,600 fake diplomas worth more than $100 million. Now, federal authorities have arrested 25 people accused of operating a multimillion-dollar scheme based in Florida
Starting point is 00:09:31 that sold fake nursing school degrees to thousands of people. Now, recruiters helped aspiring nurses obtain these fake degrees and transcripts. So now they're trying to find out where all these fake licenses are and these fake people are and get them to not actually work. Because they're actually helping people and probably didn't take the necessary precaution or necessary classes to actually be qualified to help people. They skip steps. They skip steps. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:09:59 Yeah, my therapist tells me that all the time. My therapist sometimes, well, this has nothing to do with this story, but my therapist tells me about how, you know, if you're in a position, you know, sometimes you can allow somebody else to skip steps, but when that person, when you put that person in the position after they skip steps, they won't be able to maintain that position because they didn't acquire the skills. True. Because every step of the way, you acquire skills. That's true. You know, so, I mean, what's the point of getting a fake nursing diploma if you don't even have the skills to be in that position?
Starting point is 00:10:29 You're not, it's not sustainable. Yeah. So you might as well just go do the real work, acquire the skills you need to become a nurse. And when you actually do get a real diploma, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:39 you can maintain your position. Yeah, a lot of people don't want to do the work. They just want the job. They want the money. So they feel like, hey, I know this job. I've been taking care of my mother and my grandmother for years. So just give me my diploma and I'll start making, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:52 $60,000, $70,000, $80,000, you know? That is a problem with this whole era. And when I say era, I'm not talking about age. I'm just talking about people in general. Folks love to skip steps. And when you skip steps, you do not acquire the skill set like we've been doing what we've been doing for a long time right envy you know i mean you as a dj me as a personality and in other fields but every single step of the way we acquire new skills that allow
Starting point is 00:11:18 us to maintain the positions that we are currently in so you do yourself no favor skipping skipping steps people all right and that is front page news next out we'll tell you about the netflix the positions that we are currently in. So you do yourself no favor skipping steps, people. Alright. And that is front page news. Next hour, we'll tell you about the Netflix. Everybody want to BBL their way to the top. What'd you say? Next hour, we'll talk about the Netflix password sharing crackdown. So if you have Netflix and you've been sharing your password, they created an algorithm
Starting point is 00:11:38 and we'll break it down next hour. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, phone lines are wide open. Again. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, phone lines are wide open again. 800-585-1051. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Hey, guys, I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show,
Starting point is 00:12:01 where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast Post Run High is all about. Yeah, you heard that right.
Starting point is 00:13:07 A podcast for all ages. One you can listen to and enjoy with your kids starting on September 27th. I'm going to toss it over to the host of Historical Records, Nimany, to tell you all about it. Make sure you check it out. Hey, y'all. Nimany here. I'm the host of a brand-new history podcast for kids and families called Historical Records. Historical Records brings history to life through hip hop.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Each episode is about a different inspiring figure from history. Like this one about Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old girl in Alabama who refused to give up her seat on the city bus nine whole months before Rosa Parks did the same thing. Check it. Did you know, did you know, I wouldn't give up my seat. Nine months before Rosa, it was called a moment. Get the kids in your life excited about history by tuning in to Historical Records. Because in order to make history, you have to make some noise. Listen to Historical Records on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Starting point is 00:18:08 for your book. I'm on chapter 18. It's super hilarious. You just finished talking about the kids and Gina is, I'm sorry, excuse me. Gia is having a fun time. And it's just funny. Yeah, no, it's Gia, but yeah. Thank you for
Starting point is 00:18:23 purchasing the book and for everybody asking yeah gear's home now she got back yesterday so she's home about to ask you that too yeah no she's home she's she got back safe and and everything is good so yeah but thank you for purchasing the book what was your favorite chapter so far uh the way she's talking about this edible is cracking me up oh yeah the time i gave my wife an edible and uh she she doesn't smoke or do edible so she took it that one time and I think it was a little morning edible. We got it up here. We all took it up here one time and I gave it to her and she was tripping out
Starting point is 00:18:50 crazy. And because of that, she'll never do anything. She don't, she'll never smoke. She'll never take anything. She was swimming on the floor. It was crazy.
Starting point is 00:19:01 That's when we used to do drugs. Yeah. In the morning. Thank God. That's when we used to do drugs and get on the radio. I still do drugs, though. I still do edibles. I just know my dosage now.
Starting point is 00:19:12 I can't start my day like that. This tea is enough for me. Well, thank you for checking in. By the way, you too. Thank you. We weren't supposed to start our day like that either. No, we weren't. We just, it's different people back then. Thank you. We weren't supposed to start our day like that either. No, we weren't. We just, we were different
Starting point is 00:19:27 people back then. Very different. Hello, who's this? What's up? It's Bush, man. Bushman or Butchman? Bush. Bush, what up? Get it off your chest, Bush. He trying to tell you you got that hair on your penis. All these haters, man, they trying to keep you down, want to show you
Starting point is 00:19:44 the right direction, man. They need to get out the way, man. They trying to keep you down, want to show you the right direction, man. They need to get out the way, man. They, you know, I got homeboys out here that's in this trucking business with me, man. They writing the wrong answers on the mirror for us, you know what I'm saying? All right, Bushman. What's that? Hey, Bushman. He hung up.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Bushman hung up. Oh. Hey, you know what I wanted to ask you, Envy? What's that? Your wife still like you after 20 days of not seeing you? Oh, man, she love me. She all over me 20 days of not seeing you? Oh man she love me she all over me Damn so she missed you Yeah she missed me she can't keep her hands off me which is great
Starting point is 00:20:10 I mean I can't keep my hands off her as well But nah she had a good time I don't think she'll ever go 20 days again Cause you know you don't realize She missed her family so much missed me so much That I don't think she'll do it again I mean she wanted to hang out with her girls.
Starting point is 00:20:26 You about to give her baby number seven, huh? Keep her, keep her, keep her, keep her down for another couple years. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, hit us up now. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. It's a new day.
Starting point is 00:20:46 This is your time to get it off your chest. Wake up. Whether you're mad or blessed. It's time to get up and get something. Call up now. 800-585-1051. We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club. Hello, who's this?
Starting point is 00:20:59 Hey, good morning, guys. It's Nick from Melville. Hey, Nick. So I just wanted to say. Where the hell are you from? Happy New Year. Melville, Long Island. Oh, Mel morning, guys. It's Nick from Melville. Hey, Nick. So I just wanted to say happy New Year. Melville, Long Island. Oh, Melville.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Okay. Yeah, so like you were saying, Charlemagne, peace to you guys. I had to step down from a managerial position. I jumped into it thinking I could do it. And it just, I didn't have the skills. It was overwhelming to say the least. Wow. You know, you don't hear that much.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Nah, man, I'm telling. You don't hear that much. Usually when people, you know, people still try and do it, especially when it's money involved. And you'd be like, no, I can do it. But the fact that you realize, look, it was overwhelming. I don't have the skills for this job. Maybe this job is not for me. That's pretty big, bro.
Starting point is 00:21:41 I appreciate that. And if you guys don't mind, I had a young lady who worked for me. Her husband just died. Can I put her cash app out there to get some help for her? What's she trying to do? Some money for her funeral? No, they can't do that already. She's just struggling.
Starting point is 00:21:57 She's a good worker. Good person. Mother of three. What's her cash app? Her cash app is Mrs. B-M-R-S-B, 0813. And that's B as in boy. 0813? Okay.
Starting point is 00:22:13 Is it DCB? Correct. Correct. Man, don't be lying to us this morning. Talk about some mother of three. No, no, man. It's yours now. I pay it forward, man.
Starting point is 00:22:24 I pay it forward. She needs it. I believe him. It's sad. Because you just told us you stepped down from a managerial position now. Now you're out here scamming. I'm doing all right, though. I'm doing all right, y'all. I'm not like that.
Starting point is 00:22:38 I'm with you. I want to send some money to this cash app so bad, but I don't trust you. Yeah, he told the truth. That ain't got nothing to do with you, though. They're my own trust issues, okay? I'm working through that with my therapist. Don't worry about it. Well, thank you, Nick.
Starting point is 00:22:54 Hello, who's this? Yo, what up? What up, Manny? It's Charles, man. Y'all might not remember. I called last year. I'm the guy that got fired from Club Live. I don't remember, but what's up? How are you, Charles?
Starting point is 00:23:04 I don't remember, but what's, Charles? I don't remember. But what's happening? Well, anyway, I want to ask y'all something, man. I got a roommate that's a pathological liar. I'm trying to be his friend, but it seems like he'll tell me something, and a few months later, he'll tell me something different, and he'll forget the lie he told. And he'll never admit to lying, and I want to be the guy's friend,
Starting point is 00:23:22 but would you be a friend with somebody that you knew was lying to you? No. No. It depends what they're lying about. I mean, it's not even an important lie. It depends. It'd be nonsense. No.
Starting point is 00:23:34 That's what I'm saying. I'm one of those people. I like to lie for stuff, like, for no reason, but then I'll tell you I'm lying. You know what I mean? But it ain't nothing serious. For instance, he's got a really nice car, you know what I'm saying? And he told me his car was paid off. So then a few weeks later, he told me, no, literally a few weeks later, he told me that
Starting point is 00:23:54 he was still making payments on his car and it'll be finished, paid off in a few years. You know, but why would he lie to me about that, man? You know? Well, those lies don't affect you. Because you have to speak. That's right. And you got to speak things into existence. But like they say, it's not the lie that necessarily offends me.
Starting point is 00:24:08 It's the, he insults my intelligence. Because I know you're lying. Damn. You know what I'm saying? You know why you upset? I'm going to tell you why you upset. You upset because you ain't calling him on his lies. See, you can be friends with anybody if you accept who they are.
Starting point is 00:24:21 So whenever they do stuff like that, you got to be like, man, shut your lying ass up. I know you lying. You're just mad you ain't calling him on it. Well, you know what? I'll take your advice and I'll do that from now on. Yeah, call his ass out. I'll do that, man. I'll do that.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Is he home now? No, he's at work right now, actually. Damn, we should call him. He's at work. You want to call him? No, don't call him. But anyway, I want to also say something. See, I think you lying now.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Don't call him. Don't call him. No, he's literally at work, man. It's to also say something. See, I think you're lying now. Don't call him. Don't call him. No, he's literally at work, man. It's early in the morning. He's going to work or whatever. I get off at midnight. I work at Wendy's. I get off at midnight, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:24:51 So I'm still up. I've been watching movies. I'll also check that new movie on Netflix. You people with Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill is really good. And if you're in a city, go watch that play. Go watch the play with Common between Riverside and Crazy. It's really good also. I even got a selfie with Common. I got the death. It's really good also. I even got a selfie with comment.
Starting point is 00:25:06 I got the death. It's really cool. All right. Thank you, brother. You was about to ask me something. What you was saying? No, he said I'm upset. Oh, who?
Starting point is 00:25:12 Him? The liar? Yeah, the guy that worked at Wendy's. No, liar hung up. All right. Get it off your chest. He's not a liar. Why are you calling him a liar?
Starting point is 00:25:19 His roommate is a liar. Oh, all right. Well, that's what I mean. His roommate's a liar. He hung up. But get it off your chest. It's 800-585-1051. We got rumors on the way.
Starting point is 00:25:28 Uh, let's talk rats. You ever had a rat problem? But don't mind it. We'll tell you what celebrity doesn't mind her rat problem. We'll get to it next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Boy, you just told me something that I,
Starting point is 00:25:46 that I, you just made me feel less old. But I thought I was going crazy. What you mean? Because every time I hear this record, I be waiting for Uzi to rap. And you just said it. You was like, Uzi, don't rap on this record. I thought it was just me.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Nah, he just be like, You don't really rap on this record. Somebody needs to take that record and do a version with M'Baku from the Jubari tribe. Or Jubari tribe. And just the... Somebody out there got to do that. I'm not no producer, okay? I'm just giving you an idea.
Starting point is 00:26:20 All right? DJ Khaled in this one. I'm Diddy in this one. I'm just giving you the idea. Somebody go actually do the music. All right. Well, shout out to U. I'm Diddy in this one. I'm just giving you the idea. Somebody will actually do the music. All right. Well, shout out to Uzi. Let's get to the rumors.
Starting point is 00:26:29 Let's talk Julia Fox. Rumor has it. Rumor has it. Call out her name or you gossiping or you chatty patty. I'm gossiping. This is the rumor report. I mean, I guess we on The Breakfast Club. This is where the tea spills, right?
Starting point is 00:26:41 Yes. On The Breakfast Club. Now, Julia Fox, you know who that is. She's an actress. She was also, she got famous in our community for dating Kanye West. She did a little tour of her apartment. Oh, yeah. That's how I know her.
Starting point is 00:26:54 You say that we know her. I know her because she was dating Kanye. Yeah, but she's also an actress. What does she do? Oh, she's an actress? Yeah, she's an actress, yeah. Well, she did a tour of her apartment, her New York City apartment. And it was pretty disgusting. I don't like excessive. Wait, wait, wait, wait,'s an actress, yeah. Well, she did a tour of her apartment, her New York City apartment, and it was pretty
Starting point is 00:27:06 disgusting. I don't like excessive. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. It was pretty disgusting. She goes through the different rooms and the different bedrooms. Just think of MTV Cribs, but you know how people prepare for MTV Cribs? She didn't prepare. She just was like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:27:20 I'm just going to show my crib looking disgusting and looking nasty but the wild thing is when she talks about the rats that she has at her apartment and she has a child displays of wealth they make me feel it icky um you know especially people that have really big houses it's just really wasteful when there's so many homeless people in this country. And like, I just, I'm, I'm not really like that. Um, and, uh, yeah, we do have a little, a small mouse problem, but you know, it, it's a, it's a problem depending on how you look at it. You know, I kind of let them rock. I appreciate that they, um, at night while we're sleeping, come out and clean up the crumbs that my son drops on the floor.
Starting point is 00:28:15 So, uh, yeah, I'm not not gonna evict the mice anytime soon amen amen i'm calling child services you get what you pay for no you get what you pay for man you can't have you need to put her name in that housing lottery man lord have mercy you can't have mice running around your crib talking about they come out at night they eat all the crumbs and my son drops off. No, that's not healthy. That's not sanitary. What? Well, it depends what kind of mice it is.
Starting point is 00:28:32 Michael Jackson played with mice. You know what I mean? You might have a mouse like Stuart Little. You know what I mean? It might be Mickey Mouse. It depends what kind
Starting point is 00:28:39 of mouse it is. These New York mice. There's mouse and then there's rats. Like the only rat that we ever liked was Splinter from the Ninja Turtles. You know what I'm saying? But most mouse, mice, mouse, however you want to call it.
Starting point is 00:28:49 They've always been depicted very well in our society. Mice have been depicted very well. I mean, people spend thousands of dollars to go play at the mouse's kingdom in Florida and California. You know what I mean? So maybe mice are nicer than we know.
Starting point is 00:29:05 No. Maybe we confuse mice with rats. Mice? Isn't mice... You know what? We're going to sound so stupid. Isn't mice smaller rats? That's what I thought.
Starting point is 00:29:14 I thought... Hey, man. We sound like... Hey. We sound like we're discussing genders, man. Is it they? Is it mice or mouse? Which one is it, man?
Starting point is 00:29:24 Huh? I thought... Huh? You know what? I don't know. I got to go back to school. I don't mouse? Which one is it, man? Huh? I thought... Huh? You know what? I don't know. I got to go back to school. I don't know. Mice is one, right?
Starting point is 00:29:30 But mice can't be one. Mouse is one. Mice is plural. And I thought mice were younger rats. No? Now, can you say mouses? No, you can't say mouses. Can you say mouses?
Starting point is 00:29:40 We sound so stupid. What about mices? No, you can't say mices. Okay, so mice. Okay, I got mice in this house. Yes, that's a plural. Oh, yeah, you're right. You can't say there's mouses in here. There about mices? No, you can't say mices. Okay, so mice. Okay, I got mice in this house. Yes, that's a plural. Oh, yeah, you're right. You can't say there's mouses in here.
Starting point is 00:29:48 There's mouses in here. No, you say mice. That would still work, too. No, you can't say mouses. It's not mouses. You got to say mice. Man, why are we minding poor white people business? You're right.
Starting point is 00:29:58 She's not poor. She's not poor. She's actually about six years old. I can't tell. Well, T.I. talks about the time Morgan Freeman got him fired from a movie. I'm drinking lean at the time. I had a movie, a movie called Las Vegas. My manager hit me and said, hey, man, they're doing a table read where everybody's going to be there.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Took the four-hour drive down there, drinking the whole way, sipping the whole way. So by the time I got there, it was earlier. It was too early for the table read. It was like 7.30. Come time to sit down for the table read. Man, that drink got on my ass so bad, man. I'm dozing off at the table. And Morgan Freeman from across the table say, son, are you with us, son?
Starting point is 00:30:44 Get up. What is your problem what is the man chastised me like a little boy right there when the taverry was over i left you know what i'm saying went back you know came back to the crib and uh i got a call he said my my manager said man morgan freeman said he won't work with you damn it man man drop one of the clues bombs for ti man ti is always going to be one of my favorite rappers, but he's one of my favorite people because he is hilarious. First of all, if you say, hey, man, I got fired. I don't care where you got fired from.
Starting point is 00:31:17 As soon as you start the conversation off, I was drinking lean. Okay, you don't got to tell me no more. I can understand why you got fired. I'm drinking lean. Lord have mercy. And that was Club Shea Shea. you got fired. I'm drinking lean. Lord have mercy. I had. And that was Club Shea Shea. I got fired. Why?
Starting point is 00:31:31 I'm drinking lean. That was Club Shea Shea with Shannon Sharp. Too funny. And lastly. Thank God for growth. Yes. Thank God for growth. Lastly, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott definitely won't be getting a ring. Of course, not from the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:31:46 And it looks like he broke up with his girlfriend. So he will not be getting a ring anytime soon for that. So they won't be getting married. I was just a stab at you. I had to tell a story. I just wanted to do that for you. What's her name? What's her name?
Starting point is 00:31:59 She's Caucasian. I don't know her name. Yeah, I saw a picture of her. Dr. Umar would be proud dr umar would say that you know dac might have got rid of the baggage that has been keeping him from uh actually prospering out here in these streets my goodness you know what i mean yeah all right now i'm gonna tell you something what if dac ends up with a black woman if if Dak ends up with a black woman during this offseason, and we win the Super Bowl next year like I know we will, Dr. Umar going to have a hell of a case. You stupid, man.
Starting point is 00:32:32 You stupid. For a lot of his theories. For his snow bunny theory, Dr. Umar going to have a hell of a case. My goodness. All right. Well, that is your rumor report. When we come back, we got front page news. We're going to talk about this quarterback that went to University of Florida who lost his scholarship, allegedly,
Starting point is 00:32:48 for saying nigga. But it didn't end there because he got a scholarship out of HBCU. I'm sorry for laughing, but we're going to talk about it next hour. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Your mornings will never be the same.
Starting point is 00:33:03 Your company has goals this year. Starting point is 00:33:23 All right, morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Let's get into some front-page news. All right, now, football. My football fans out there. The Eagles take on the 49ers Sunday at 3 p.m. And the Bengals take on the Chiefs at 6.30 p.m.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Now, I got the Eagles, and depending on if Mahomes is playing, if his leg is okay. If his leg is okay, I got the Chiefs at 6.30 p.m. Now, I got the Eagles, and depending on if Mahomes is playing, if his leg is okay. If his leg is okay, I got the Chiefs. If not, I got the Bengals. But I definitely got the Eagles beating the 49ers. If Mahomes' leg is okay, I still got the Bengals. You know what I'm saying? Because of Joe Cool, Joe Burrow. So, yeah, I think Eagles-Bengals Super Bowl with the Bengals winning the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:34:04 That's what I see. But don't listen to me. I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan. So what the hell do I know? I've been saying we're going to win the Super Bowl for the last 27 years. Now, if you are a Netflix owner, a subscriber, I should say, and you share your password with family members like I think we all do. I know my mother and my pop has used my password. I know my daughter uses my password.
Starting point is 00:34:23 A couple of people use my password. But it looks like Netflix is about to start shutting that down. They said they're going to have a limit use to the households, and they're going to start creating algorithms that actually see when people are using things that they shouldn't be using. So if you watch a show all the time, then all of a
Starting point is 00:34:38 sudden you watch something totally left or totally right, they're going to allegedly start shutting some of those accounts down so you can't be sharing your password. I'm not mad at that you know i mean it's just like back in the day when people were well of course you are that's because you don't work for netflix so ain't no money coming out of your pocket but if you work for netflix you would want to stop the bootlegging too this is like back in the day when people used to bootleg cable you know what i'm saying when the cable company comes and cuts off your bootleg cable you can't get mad at the cable company
Starting point is 00:35:04 just like you can't get mad at netflix in this situation stop being cheap yeah but if i got a subscription and i'm using it at my crib and i give it to my mother my father to use what's wrong with that if netflix says that they don't want people sharing their passwords and they want your mama and daddy to have to pay for their own subscription because technically you're taking money out their pocket uh by doing that i'm not mad at it okay if i i'm not mad at it well i don't think that's what you do why don't you buy your mom why don't you get your mama and daddy a netflix subscription for uh you know their birthday or something uh upcoming anniversary huh why not why do that when they can use mine well you can't they they can't use yours. Not anymore. Well, Marcus Stokes.
Starting point is 00:35:48 Marcus Stokes is a former Florida quarterback who lost his scholarship. You sure? I thought he was in B2K. No. That's not how you combine Marcus Houston. Oh, okay. Marcus Stokes is his name. Back in November,
Starting point is 00:36:03 he used to go to the University of Florida. They withdrew his scholarship. He was a four-star quarterback after a video emerged of him singing song lyrics that contain the N-word. Do we have the actual audio? I hate how producers sometimes... That sounds like that little Uzi record. All I heard was the beat. I ain't hear no words.
Starting point is 00:36:24 He said the N-word. Well, just months later, Stokes received an offer from the HBCU program at Albany State where he will be playing, and he got a scholarship to play there. How do you feel about that? Go ahead. We're going to hear it. Play the audio. Stokes, a white quarterback who lost his D1 scholarship for using the N-word, gets a new
Starting point is 00:36:44 offer from a historically black college. Here's my take. Nobody should be using the N-word anyways, and I don't care if it's the N-word that ends with E-R or G-A. Dictionary.com calls the N-word the most offensive word in the English language. Now, real talk, I believe in second chances, and Lord knows I have had plenty. And I know many are upset with Albany State because of this. But this might do the kids some good to go to an HBCU.
Starting point is 00:37:10 What better way for someone to learn about the black culture and get educated on racial sensitivity? Isn't that what we want more people to do in this country anyways? Let's talk about it. That's from HBCU Go. It's HBCU Go.TV, which is all about HBCUs. They play the game. They show the games. You can see the games there, and they go to different schools. I actually did a program with them going to all the HBCUs.
Starting point is 00:37:33 Let's discuss. What you think? All going to an HBCU going to do is make him sing more songs with the N-word in them. He's going to be surrounded by songs with the N-word in them. Okay? Listen, this is my take. This is Charlamagne Tha God talking.
Starting point is 00:37:48 I don't think he should have lost his scholarship to begin with. Because context matters. If he was using the N-word in a racial context, calling someone the N-word in a derogatory manner, actually using the N-word as a racial slur, then yeah, I can see him losing his scholarship. But if he's on video rapping along to a song, now mind you, I don't know what the song was because I didn't see the video. But I grew up on a great TV show called Girlfriends. Can we drop on the Clues Bombs for Girlfriends? Okay. One of the greatest TV shows of all time. And there's an episode of Girlfriends called Sister, Sister.
Starting point is 00:38:15 It's actually on season two, episode 13, I believe. All right. And Lynn's white sister, you know, was singing H to the Izzo in a beauty salon full of black people. Right. And, you know, she said the N word. And they all got upset with her. And, you know, was singing H to the Izzo in a beauty salon full of black people. Right. And, you know, she said the N word and they all got upset with her. And, you know, they scolded her and they, you know, schooled her on why culturally that's not correct. But I don't think that's that was worthy of that man losing his scholarship.
Starting point is 00:38:38 That's what you do in a situation like that. You see a white dude singing along to a song and, you know, you see him just rapping and the N word comes out. Can you be upset? Sure. Should you scold him and tell him why culturally that's not correct? Yes. But should he have lost the scholarship? I don't think so. I'm not going to front. I really don't care if he lost the scholarship or didn't lose the scholarship. What really bothers me is the fact that HBCU gave him a full scholarship to be a quarterback there, where I'm 100 percent, a thousand percent sure that there are other brothers out there that could be a quarterback there where i'm a hundred percent a thousand
Starting point is 00:39:05 percent sure that there are other brothers out there that could be a quarterback and play for that school so the fact that they're using that scholarship money for him and not for these these other brothers which i thought hbcus were supposed to do i thought they were historically black colleges and universities to give uh people of color an opportunity that they don't usually get to make them feel comfortable and make them feel a way that they don't get at these other schools that's what i'm more concerned about yeah i'm with you i didn't know why people could get scholarships to hbcus i didn't know that was a thing but i've also never heard of albany state that's facts but it is hbcu have you ever i've never heard of Albany State. I don't think I have. You know,
Starting point is 00:39:47 never heard of. But it is an HBCU. Is this an expansion football team? Have they always had a football team? Or is this a new football team? A new HBCU football team? I've never heard of them. Well, let's open up the phone lines. 800-585-1051. We're talking about this young man
Starting point is 00:40:03 named Marcus Stokes. He was allegedly lost his scholarship for saying the word nickel. Is this a real story? Yes, it's a real story. Have we vetted this? Yes, it's a real story. Okay. Yes, it's a real story. It does sound fake. Now, Albany State allegedly gave this
Starting point is 00:40:20 young man a scholarship. Now, Albany State University was founded in 1903. So, it's a historically black college. It's not like one of those ones that was founded in 1903 so it's a it's a historically black college it's not like one of those ones that was just created no it's been around since 1903 so let's talk about it how do you feel about it 800-585-1051 let's discuss it's the breakfast club good morning the breakfast club it's topic time call 800-585-1051 to join into the discussion with the breakfast club talk about it morning everybody it's dj nv charlamagne the guy we are the breakfast club
Starting point is 00:40:59 now if you're just joining us we're talking about marcus stokes now he used to go to university of florida but uh he lost his scholarship and this is the reason why they say he lost his scholarship marcus stokes a white quarterback who lost his d1 scholarship for using the n-word gets a new offer from a historically black college here's my take nobody should be using the n-word anyways and i don't care if it's the n-word that ends with E-R or G-A. Dictionary.com calls the N-word the most offensive word in the English language. Now, real talk, I believe in second chances, and Lord knows I've had plenty of them. And I know many are upset with Albany State because of this.
Starting point is 00:41:38 But this might do the kids some good to go to an HBCU. What better way for someone to learn about the black culture and get educated on racial sensitivity? Isn't that what we want more people to do in this country anyways? So we're asking 805-851-051, what are your thoughts? Now, the fact that he lost a scholarship for singing the song, I really don't care about that. You know, my concern is the fact that he's going to an HBCU, Albany State, which is founded in 1903. It's a Division II school. I just feel like you have a lot of great athletes that are black. And I feel like they should get that
Starting point is 00:42:12 opportunity before anybody else. That was the whole purpose, I thought, of an HBCU. You know, that a lot of these schools that pass up on our brothers and sisters that our schools wouldn't. And the fact that you give them a scholarship, and I know for a fact there's a lot of people out there that can't afford their college and struggling
Starting point is 00:42:28 and working two, three jobs, and they give this young man a scholarship, it just doesn't sit right with me. Charlamagne, what do you feel? I'm not against anything that you just said. I don't think he should have lost his scholarship to begin with. Like I said a little while ago, context matters. If he was using the N-word in a racial context, calling somebody the n-word in a derogatory manner you know actually
Starting point is 00:42:50 using it as a slur then yeah i can see him losing his scholarship but rapping to a rap song no i don't think that he should have lost his scholarship for that like he should have just been scolded and you know uh let him know why culturally that's not correct the correct thing to do but he shouldn't have lost his scholarship but as far as as him getting a scholarship to an HBCU, you're making me think this morning. And I don't want to think because I'm learning so much, right? Like I didn't know white kids could get scholarships to HBCUs. No, they definitely do. And a lot of times a lot of white kids go to they do programs that a lot of black students don't usually do.
Starting point is 00:43:26 Like I know in a lot of schools, a lot of white kids get, like if they have a fencing team, you'll see a lot of white kids on the fencing team or road team. You'll see white kids on the road team or sometimes the golf team. You'll see white kids on the golf team. But a sport like football, where you see a lot of brothers and sisters, a lot of brothers playing football, I think that's a little different. Okay, I got it. I got it. I got it. That's's the thing how good is he at football he must be great if he's getting off of the scholarship to an hbcu and and and and if he's good at football and he's earned a scholarship sure but depending on what songs he can rap verbatim if he can spit tomorrow
Starting point is 00:44:02 by glorilla both her verses and cardi we might have to let him get that scholarship. All right. If he can rap Kodak Black Super Gremlin verbatim and he puts passion into the part when he says, yeah, I know the perk was fake, but I still ate it because I'm a gremlin. And he turns red and you see veins in his face when he says it. Give him the scholarship. My goodness. Let's go to the phone lines. Hello. Who's this? Good morning. This is Sierra. Hey, Sierra. Good morning, let's go to the phone lines. Hello, who's this? Good morning, this is Ciara. Hey Ciara, good morning. What's your thoughts? My thoughts is really responding to the clip that was
Starting point is 00:44:32 played, and I really want black people to get out of this idea that we have to continue to teach white people lessons about the culture, the do's and don'ts, the coddling. We're in a new day and age. They have to learn that they should already know this.
Starting point is 00:44:47 The girlfriend's clip was sent years ago. This young man knows to skip the N-word, but he chooses to do it anyway. And that is true. You're absolutely right. Like, having these conversations, it seems like we have these conversations every other week. That ain't true, though.
Starting point is 00:45:04 I mean, I... Bro, that ain't true, though mean i got i i bro that ain't true though i understand what you like no no no i get what i get what she's saying but the reality is everybody's not paying attention to everything and you know you could be a young person and still get caught up in saying something that you know you're not supposed to say the problem is that everybody always want to go live right you know i'm? So you don't have no time to edit yourself. That's the problem. But not only that, right?
Starting point is 00:45:27 If you look at the LGBTQ community, right? We know what words offend them. And if you say that words... No, we don't. They change the words every day. No, we don't. That's a good point. That's a good point.
Starting point is 00:45:41 But we know what... What are you talking about? You're right. You're right. Let me shut up. You're right. I don't know why you would even tell that lie we sit in that studio every day confused he's like damn we can't say this now right we can't say this oh you can't say spaz now what are y'all talking about like there's always there's always words changing
Starting point is 00:45:57 every day that people get offended at stop it too touche hello but the n-word but but but but but to her point the n-word is one that people should know. Yes! But good morning, Candace. Good morning. Yes. How you doing, Candace? I'm doing good.
Starting point is 00:46:15 How about yourself? We're good. What's your thoughts? Okay. First of all, I want to shout out to Albany State, which is located in Georgia. That's where I'm calling from. I'm actually listening to you guys from Albany Radio Station. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:46:27 And I feel like... Oh, okay. I feel I'll be able to, you know, go to a historical black college come on down to Georgia. So you feel like he should get that scholarship although he's a white quarterback going to a historically black college?
Starting point is 00:46:42 Well, no, no, no. I feel like she's missing context. No, hold on. The reason people are upset about him getting the scholarship is because he said the N-word on a video. That's what the problem is. It's not that, you know, whether he should go to an HBCU. Should he be allowed to go to an HBCU after being
Starting point is 00:46:57 kicked out of another school for using the N-word? I think he should. Like, he was just ringing a phone, so if he wasn't in the phone, he probably would have said it, but who knows? I think he should be given the opportunity ringing a phone. So if it wasn't in the phone, he probably wouldn't have said it. But who knows? I think he should be given the opportunity, though. I agree.
Starting point is 00:47:09 I mean, I think context matters. I don't think he should have lost his scholarship to begin with. But, you know. It just bothers me. I'm a Dallas Cowboy fan. What do I know?
Starting point is 00:47:18 Yeah, you're right. But it bothers me that he lost his scholarship for a white university. I will call it a white. It's a university, but it's predominantly white. And the black university just say, oh, well, you lost your scholarship for a white university. I will call it a white university, but it's predominantly white. And the black university just said, oh, well, you lost your scholarship there,
Starting point is 00:47:29 but you're good enough, so come play for us. It just seems weird. Hey, I guarantee you, Envy, the only reason he lost that scholarship from the University of Florida was because of whatever backlash he received from people, whether it was social media or people on campus. They probably wouldn't even have took his scholarship from him if people didn't complain. Hello, who's this?
Starting point is 00:47:54 Oh, hello? Hey, what's up? Yo, it's my birthday. Happy birthday, bro. Thank you, thank you. Where's y'all at? I'm right here, King. What's happening?
Starting point is 00:48:04 Happy birthday. Yo, what's going on, brother? How you doing? Yo, real quick. I'm good. Yo, real quick. Yo, white people can go to HBCUs? Yes, white people. I didn't know that either. Yes, white people go to HBCUs. How many white people
Starting point is 00:48:19 go to HBCUs? How many white people go to HBCUs? It's a small percentage, but even when I was at Hampton, in Hampton, Virginia, yeah, there was white people that went there. They all stuck together, and usually they were on the road team or they were on the golf squad back then or whatever, you know, those type of teams. HBCUs got golf teams? Yes, they got golf teams, they got a road team, they got fencing teams,
Starting point is 00:48:42 they got all types of different teams and organizations. Bro, I did not know that, bro. I ain't never met a black person at fence. Yo, real quick. Is that like affirmative action or something? Like a form of affirmative action? I guess. I guess a reverse affirmative action, I guess.
Starting point is 00:48:58 I don't know. Well, 800-585-1051. We're talking about Marcus Stokes, who lost his scholarship at the University of Florida for, I guess he was recording himself singing a song saying the N-word. And then Albany State. Man, what was the song? We still don't know what song it was. What was the song? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:49:17 But Albany State, which is an HBCU out of Georgia, decided to give him a scholarship to go there, which seems weird to me. You know, one school gets rid of him for using the N-word, and then we give him a full scholarship and have him as a quarterback. And I just feel like with so many brothers out there playing football, you trying to tell me that he was better than all the other black quarterbacks out there that could have got a scholarship? I'm just asking. That's what I said, but that's why I asked. Can he ball?
Starting point is 00:49:42 If he can ball, you know what I'm saying? If he's really good at football, he must be great to get a scholarship to an HBCU. I mean, you kind of got to go get the best talent, right? No. No. That's not what HBCU is about, get the best talent. Get the best black talent. Man, can the man rap Super Gremlin?
Starting point is 00:49:58 Can the man rap Super Gremlin verbatim? I don't know. 800-585-1051. Let's discuss as the Breakfast Club. Good morning. I ain't no way, man. I don't ain't playing. I don't ain't playing.
Starting point is 00:50:08 I don't ain't playing. I don't ain't playing. They can't know me. You know what I'm saying? Call me. Send your opinion to the Breakfast Club top. Come on. 800-585-1051.
Starting point is 00:50:20 Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Now, if you're just joining us, we're talking about Marcus Stoke. He's a former quarterback for the University of Florida. He's Caucasian. He allegedly lost his scholarship because he was saying the N-word. Well, Albany State, which is a HBCU in Georgia, they gave him a scholarship,
Starting point is 00:50:42 and now he's the quarterback there. It doesn't make sense to me. It honestly doesn't. I get why you say that. I don't like explaining things for white people. You know what I mean? But context does matter. The kid was rapping along to a song and he said the N-word. And every time I hear stories like this,
Starting point is 00:51:00 it reminds me of Sister Sister episode of Girlfriends. You know what I mean? It was in season 2, episode 13. It's on Netflix. like this it reminds me of sister sister uh episode of girlfriends you know i mean it was in season 2 episode 13 it's on netflix you can watch it and when lynn's white sister was singing h to the iso and you know she said the n-word everybody got upset with her everybody scolded her she was trying to explain her position they were telling her why culturally that's not the correct thing to do um so i just i don't't know. When I hear about situations like this, I'm like, should he have really lost his scholarship for that?
Starting point is 00:51:29 Was that scholarship snatching away worthy? I don't know. Or maybe not. And maybe that's what all but he said. You know, they feel like, well, he shouldn't have lost the scholarship and maybe he's a great player and they took him. Now, I do know that HBCUs pick, try to get the most elite players. They don't care if you're white, if you're black, if you're Asian.
Starting point is 00:51:45 I believe Florida A&M has a Caucasian kicker. I don't mind that. They're getting the best talent because they have to play football and they've got to be competitive. But it's the fact that you've got to let go for saying this and then we pick them up that fast for saying it. I don't know. It just seems a little weird to me. I think that's part of it i think this is also a trigger for black people because you know black people are always forced to forgive correct you know what i mean you see
Starting point is 00:52:14 it all of the time you know you see white people do very heinous acts like we've seen white people you know kill black people i think of like you know dylan roof and charlton south carolina and then you know some of the family members forgave him or i think of uh like you know you've seen police officers white police officers kill you know uh unarmed black people and you see the family of the black person forgive them and i think this is a trigger for a lot of black people because it's like damn we always forgiving white people for doing stuff to us but when when it comes to us doing stuff to them there's no forgiveness there's no doing stuff to them, there's no forgiveness. There's no grace. So I think it's that trigger that goes along with this as well.
Starting point is 00:52:47 Well, we have Erica on the line and she's a Caucasian woman. Good morning, Erica. Hello. How you feeling this morning? I'm all right. Hello, Erica. What's your last name, Erica?
Starting point is 00:52:59 Maggie. Okay, Erica, where you calling from? Erica, Maggie? Mm-hmm. Wilmington. Wilmington. Okay, Lana. Okay, what's your thoughts calling from? Erica Maggie. Wilmington. Wilmington. North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:53:06 Okay, what's your thoughts? Man, you white man. You stormed the capital white. You got two first names. Shut up. Go ahead, Erica. No, it's not Maggie. Mackie.
Starting point is 00:53:16 Mackie. I eat it. Oh, Mackie. Yeah, I'm originally from Baltimore, but, you know, I mean, I was raised in North Carolina. Okay, Erica, talk to us. What's your thoughts? Yeah, okay, well, the way I was raised up, I was raised up in the hood. I was raised around all black people my whole life.
Starting point is 00:53:35 I've been with black men my whole life. I mean, the way I was raised, it just all depends on how you say the word. You know what I'm saying? I mean, if it comes out in a bad way, you know what I'm saying, then yeah, that's not cool. But the people I be around, you know, I mean, I guess I'm just that comfortable
Starting point is 00:53:58 around them, you know what I'm saying? To be able to say that. The N-word. Let me give you a piece of advice. Erica, let me give you a piece of advice. Yeah. Erica, let me give you a piece of advice. You keep that in Wilmington amongst your community
Starting point is 00:54:09 and the people who know you. Because if you step out of your community and you use that word around black people who don't know you, you're going to find yourself in some trouble there. Right. Yeah, I mean, I get that.
Starting point is 00:54:20 But, you know, like, I mean, when we said it to each other and they said it to me too, and I'm a white woman, you know what I'm saying? I mean, that's just but you know, like, I mean, when we said to each other, and they said to me too, and I'm a white woman, you know what I'm saying? I mean, that's just, you know, I mean, how we talk to each other, but, I mean, in the hood or whatever, but yeah, I mean, when we
Starting point is 00:54:36 Can you rap Gorilla tomorrow, verbatim? I can't rap her song, but I can, I can rap my own. Oh, you rap? A little bit, but not, you know what I'm saying? I mean, nothing like that. own. Oh you rap a little bit Alright yo, yo, my name is little e Me I make you body you need to be for believe my conscience is talking to me I'm the realest the inextricably to ever see and you're you're good you still got you talk too much you should have kept your mouth shut
Starting point is 00:55:11 no no no that ain't it at all that That was trash, Erica. But it's still cool, though. It wasn't cool. All right, y'all can... Not one ball you spit makes you wherever you're being, I'm saying the N-word. Okay, what your community tells you? Hello? Hello, who's this? That's Black Panther.
Starting point is 00:55:40 Oh, boy, Black Panther. Why do you feel Black Panther? Darlame, man, you can't be doing that, man You cannot be doing that You gotta stand on Black business What I do? Man, you talking about it's cool What I do?
Starting point is 00:55:51 Go to a black school Go to a black HBCU I didn't say that Come on, man Come on, man Indy, I agree with you, dude I agree with you He should not be
Starting point is 00:56:01 That opportunity could have been given to another kid who's struggling. Not even necessarily struggling. Who can play quarterback at a high caliber. That should have been given to that black kid. You cannot be so lean on black business like that, Charlamagne. That ain't cool. I don't think I said that he should get the scholarship. Let me ask you one question, Charlamagne.
Starting point is 00:56:22 Did I say he should get the scholarship? No, you didn't. No, you didn't. But let me ask you a question. I don't should get the scholarship? No, you didn't. No, you didn't. But let me ask you a question. I don't think I said that. No, you didn't. What would Dr. Umar Johnson say? Oh, Dr. Umar would be absolutely, positively against this.
Starting point is 00:56:33 Dr. Umar would absolutely, positively would not want this to happen in any way, shape, or form. And he would give Albany State a million lashes. Well, what's the moral of the story man the moral of the story is i don't know i really don't i don't even feel like thinking about this stuff this deep this morning you know what i mean i know balkan stokes sounds like a black name you know what i mean but other than that i don't have anything to say can the man rap super gremlin verbatim? Can he rap Glorilla tomorrow verbatim? I don't know. Personally, I kind of agree if they... I don't know, man. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:57:11 I don't... All right. Well, it's Friday. All right. It is Friday. When we come back, we got to Rumor Report. We got to talk Rich Dollar
Starting point is 00:57:20 and he talks about his daughter. His daughter was arrested for shooting at somebody. And we'll explain. So don't move. It's The arrested for shooting at somebody. And I will explain. So don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Hey, guys.

Starting point is 01:02:57 radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcast morning everybody it's DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We were talking Albany State. What are you doing? No, we're not doing nothing. It's a reset break. I was telling you
Starting point is 01:03:11 about Albany State. Rick Ross actually went to Albany State in Georgia and he got a scholarship to play football. Did not know that. Yeah, I did not know that. When you said Albany State,
Starting point is 01:03:21 I don't know why I started thinking Albany, New York. I didn't even think of Albany, Georgia. I ain't gonna lie. I thought it was in Albany. It thinking Albany, New York. I didn't even think of Albany, Georgia. I thought it was in Albany. It's Albany, New York, right? Yes, absolutely.
Starting point is 01:03:29 I thought it was Albany, New York, too. Oh, okay. I definitely didn't think of Georgia until the lady called and said it was Georgia. I had no clue. I thought it was Albany, New York. Yeah. Is he going to accept the scholarship, though? That's the other thing.
Starting point is 01:03:41 Did he accept it or did he just get offered? He got offered it, right? Offered, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, he got offered the right offered yeah yeah yeah he got offered the scholarship he didn't he didn't accept the scholarship
Starting point is 01:03:48 okay well it is what it is yeah alright when we come back I actually wanted to say something but I can't find what I wanted to say now
Starting point is 01:03:56 oh it's um you know bro nope can't find it alright well we got your
Starting point is 01:04:03 we got your rumor report next. And we tell you about Rich Dollaz, of course, from Loving Hip Hop New York, about his daughter who shot at her boyfriend, her ex-boyfriend, at her first day on the job. And when I say on the job, I'm not talking about police officers. I'm talking about working at Kroger's. We'll talk about it when we come back at the Breakfast Club tomorrow. You know who I wanted to salute?
Starting point is 01:04:22 I wanted to salute. That's what I wanted to say last time. I wanted to salute Donnell Rollins. Drop on the Clues Bonds for Donnell Rollins. We had dinner last night, and he paid for it. Really? Yeah, he paid for it. He paid for everybody's dinner.
Starting point is 01:04:39 I was surprised, too. I was. I was going to split the bill with him. And I saw him with the bill, and I was like, hey, pass that over here. And he was like, I already took care of it, son. I already took care of it, too. I was. I was going to split the bill with him. And I saw him with the bill. And I was like, hey, you know, pass that over here. And he was like, I already took care of it, son. I already took care of it, son. So salute to Donnell Rollins.
Starting point is 01:04:52 One of the funniest. And I'm not saying this because he paid for the food. I'm saying this because he always says, because I always say this. But for whatever reason, he feels like I don't say it publicly enough. He is by far one of the best stand-up comedians you will ever see. If Donnell Rollins is in your city, go see Donnell Rollins. I don't care if it's a solo show. I don't care if it's, you know, him with Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock.
Starting point is 01:05:15 If Donnell Rollins is on the bill, go see him. And I'm not saying that because he paid for the bill last night. I'm saying that because it's the truth. Well, let me ask you a question. How many people were there and where did y'all eat? Oh, no. It was nine of us. It was nine of us. Applebee's? And it wasn't... There wasn't no
Starting point is 01:05:31 Applebee's. Okay. I'll tell you where Monday. I'll tell you where Monday. Okay. Alright, well, let's get to the rumors. Rumor has it. Rumor has it. Call out a name or you gossiping or you chatting. I am gossiping. This is the rumor report. I mean, I guess we on the breakfast club. This is where the tea spills, right?
Starting point is 01:05:49 Yes, on the breakfast club. Now, Rich Dollaz, of course, from Love & Hip Hop New York. His daughter, Ashley Trowers, got arrested yesterday. Now, she was arrested for aggravated assault. And now this is the reason why. Now, she told officers at her first day on the job she's uh does security at kroger's gas station she said around midnight her child's father and another man approached her in a cadillac ats now she has a restraining order against him she said she tried
Starting point is 01:06:18 to flee but they caught up with her he said when they caught up with her she'd fire two shots that hit the cat that hit the cadillac not not them, but hit the Cadillac. And then she called the police and told them that she had a restraining order and she got scared when she seen them. She said she was surprised that he knew where she was working at and that was the first day on the job.
Starting point is 01:06:38 She said she saw someone in the car reaching for a gun and she returned fire. I don't have a problem with it. What's her name? Ashley Trowers. What's her name ashley trowers is she in jail uh i'm sure she got out by now i'm sure she got out by now well she is in jail free ashley okay i don't i'm with you i don't i didn't there's nothing you said wrong in that story i heard i heard textbook self-defense i heard a woman that you know went to law enforcement had a restraining order against an individual. I heard said individual, you know, not respecting the restraining order.
Starting point is 01:07:11 I saw, I hear a young woman that was scared and fearing for her life. And she used a firearm the way you're supposed to use a firearm. I don't see the problem. Right. And, you know, I don't want to say it runs in the family, but Ashley's mother, who was also in love and hip hop, was arrested in 2018 for allegedly shooting her husband. She claimed self-defense and that case was dismissed. But, Jess, that's what you're supposed to do.
Starting point is 01:07:36 You did the right thing. You filed a restraining order. They came to your job. And, yes, you got scared. You tried to flee. You tried to leave. They followed you. It looked like they were reaching for something, and you didn to flee you tried to leave they followed you it looked like they were reaching for something and you ain't want to find out what they was reaching for
Starting point is 01:07:48 i don't have a problem i have four i have four daughters i've said it on this radio before i'll say it again owning a firearm as a black person in this country is a form of self-care you should teach everybody in your house how to shoot okay if you have women in your household you know you should teach those women how to shoot let them go to the gun range and learn how to shoot okay if you have women in your household you know you should teach those women how to shoot let them go to the gun range and learn how to properly use their firearm because these people out here is crazy okay and you ain't gonna always be there to hold it down for the queens in your life so when they got firearms around them they can hold themselves down that is what 2a is all about right there and not only that right there she followed she followed the
Starting point is 01:08:24 proper procedure. She filed a restraining order. Absolutely. She called the police. And after she did this shooting, she didn't have to call the police. She called the police and told them exactly what happened. So she wasn't running. She wasn't scared.
Starting point is 01:08:35 She was protecting her life. There's no way that young lady should have been locked up. No way. In my opinion. The NRA. The NRA. Black Guns Matter. Every single gun rights group in this country should be coming to her defense.
Starting point is 01:08:49 Absolutely. Like every single one. What is she? She got charges pressed against her or something? Like, what's the story? Yeah, I'll tell you. She was arrested for aggravated assaults and she was transported to the jail. And then she was finally released on her own.
Starting point is 01:09:04 So she was released. And already where y'all at? This is this way. All right. Like like every single gun rights pro gun group in this country should be coming to her defense. Every single one. Now, Amber Rose was on the Sophia with an F podcast and she was talking about her relationship and her life and what she wants. She says, I don't want to share my life or my house with anyone.
Starting point is 01:09:26 I don't want anyone around my kids. I don't want to have sex. She also said she's OK with the idea of being a lesbian, but is also content with being by myself. She says, I'm very happy not to be in my bed with anyone. That was so confusing just now. What part? What happened? You got audio?
Starting point is 01:09:47 Oh, there's audio. Let's hear it. Envy wanted to say that himself. No, I feel that. It's scary. It's really, really scary. So are you dating right now? No, not really.
Starting point is 01:09:58 I don't want penis. I don't want to share my house or my life with anyone. Yeah. I don't want anyone around my kids. I don't want to have sex house or my life with anyone. Yeah. I don't want anyone around my kids. I don't want to have sex. You don't? No.
Starting point is 01:10:11 Yeah, she's fed up. And you hear a lot of women saying that now. They're just fed up. What she said just now made sense. I don't know what the hell you were saying. I read exactly what she said. You were talking to that DJ who tried you that you told us about yesterday. I did. That's who you were talking to.
Starting point is 01:10:24 Oh, my goodness. That's your rumor, Paul. Who you giving your donkey to, man? No, a lot of women do feel like that. That's why the sale of sex toys is through the roof right now. But who's that an indictment on? Is that an indictment on, I guess, everybody, right? Because, well, I guess men more so than anyone, right?
Starting point is 01:10:40 Yeah, I guess a lot of women are feeling like guys are still playing the field, playing around. And they want to lock down. They want to get married. They want to have a family. And they feel like the men that they're finding are cheating on them or doing some sucker-ish. So they're content with being alone. And I think when people are on their healing journey, man, you're looking for something more than physical things to make you feel good. You're really looking for things emotionally and mentally that can, that can fill you in a real way, you know? And, and when you,
Starting point is 01:11:09 um, on your healing journey, if you haven't properly healed yourself yet, and you know, you still working on your, your own self-love, you probably don't want to be involved with nobody until you do that. Until you learn to properly love yourself, you, you know, you can't really, truly love anyone else and pouring anyone out. So, you know, you can't really truly love anyone else and pour into anyone else. So, you know, maybe folks just need to focus on their own healing journeys. There's nothing wrong with that. Yeah, that's true. And like my assistant said, and also that, you know, men are too short and she doesn't want to look for a short man.
Starting point is 01:11:35 Who said that? I know Mercedes' big tall ass ain't say that. She in there now? No, she's not here now, man. Calm down, man. Oh. What, you want to play in basketball? Because I stood up. You know I stood up and started doing crossovers playing with me, Mercedes. I did.
Starting point is 01:11:51 I'm literally standing up right now like, what's up? I'm ready to post up if she here. My goodness. Stop playing with me, Mercedes. Yo, who you? Y'all going to miss y'all blessings. I told you you're blessing 5'7". Who you giving your little donkey ass to, man?
Starting point is 01:12:04 Oh, man man four after the hour there is three florida nursing schools that need to come to the front of the congregation i told y'all i didn't want to think too hard this morning but boy this is a teachable moment we'll talk about it for after the hour all right we'll get to that next it's the breakfast club good morning the breakfast club your mornings will never be the same looking to turn a small bet into a big payday? There is no question that there are problems in this country between police and community yes you are a donkey the latest on that police killing of a black man now to new developments in the deadly spa shooting rampage and yesterday was a really bad day for him and this is what he did and so we are in a state of emergency okay white
Starting point is 01:13:06 supremacist violence is it always has been the number one threat to our society but i'm also very proud that my wife is white the breakfast club bitch why was i your donkey of the day well donkey of the day for friday january 27th goes to the three Florida nursing schools who sold up to 7,600 people across America fake diplomas. That's right. 25 people have been charged. And, man, I wish I had all of their names. But let's talk about the schools.
Starting point is 01:13:37 Palm Beach School of Nursing, Siena College, and Sacred Heart International Institute are all accused by the Justice Department of selling 7,600 diplomas and transcripts to people seeking licenses and jobs as registered practical and vocational nurses. As much as y'all complain about them people, and by them people, I mean the DOJ and the FBI, y'all sure make it easy for the house that J. Edgar Hoover built to get on y'all ass. Now, I know I told y'all I didn't want to think much this morning, and this is a story that doesn't make me think at all. Okay, this story does not require much thought because it's simple. Y'all fools is lazy.
Starting point is 01:14:13 You're always looking for shortcuts. It's a bunch of people who don't want to work out, don't have the discipline to eat right. You just want to BBL your way to the top. Well, that ain't how life works. I mean, you can do it, okay, but the results you're looking for will not be everlasting. You will not be able to maintain that desired look. But we will discuss after we break down what happened at these nursing schools.
Starting point is 01:14:35 In fact, I don't got to break nothing down. Let's go to NBC 6 News for the report, please. It's called Operation Nightingale. Thousands and thousands of people taking shortcuts to become nurses. And officials say Operation Nightingale took aim at harmful fraud affecting public health. In total, 25 people charged, accused of operating and recruiting for three South Florida nursing schools. The schools, they prepared and sold fake nursing school diplomas and transcripts to nursing candidates, knowing that the candidates would use those false documents to, one, sit for nursing board examinations,
Starting point is 01:15:13 secure nursing licenses, and three, ultimately obtain nursing jobs. The alleged scheme sell fake nursing diplomas and transcripts. The US Attorney, FBI and Inspector General say the school sold 7600 fake nursing diplomas since 2016. The price 15,000 a pop, netting more than $114 million. Investigators say of the thousands of diplomas sold about a third are people actually practicing medicine. You gotta help your old uncle, Charlotte, understand something here now. From what I read on ABC News, nursing candidates who allegedly participated in this scam, as you just heard, would pay as much as $15,000 for the fraudulent diplomas.
Starting point is 01:15:58 Now I was born in 1978, and when you're born in the 1900s, you remember a phrase, and the phrase is time is money, money is time. And I you're born in the 1900s, you remember a phrase and the phrase is time is money, money is time. And I'm not wasting neither. As I've gotten older, I've realized that phrase just sounds good. Okay, money is not time. All right, time is time and money is money. Time is more valuable. Okay, I've lost money and then turned around and got that money back and then some. That's never happened to me with time. I've never lost time and then gotten the time back and then tripled the time that I lost. No, that's not how time works. Therefore, I don't care how much money you spend, that money will not equate to the time it takes to actually take your ass to nursing school and earn the skills and credentials it
Starting point is 01:16:39 takes to actually be a nurse. Now, ABC News said the defendants include owners, operators, and employees of the schools who prepared and sold fake nursing school diplomas and transcripts to nursing candidates, knowing that the candidates would use those false documents to, one, sit for nursing board examinations, secure nursing licenses, and ultimately obtain nursing jobs in medical facilities, not only in Florida, but elsewhere across the country. Oh, this is so crazy. In fact, I don't know if y'all know, a couple of them got caught here in New Jersey Monday assisting in colonoscopies. In fact, if you got a colonoscopy anywhere in New Jersey on Monday, they want you to go on YouTube and see if you recognize your own ass, because there's folks with fake degrees playing games the stink finger bingo
Starting point is 01:17:25 now you don't know what stink finger bingo is it's a game played by a gathering of people gender does not apply players are blindfolded and proceed uh to stick their finger in a random ass next they must guess which ass they penetrated with their fingers all right so if you got a colonoscopy what what i'm trying to inform people here if you got a colonoscopy, what? I'm trying to inform people here. If you got a colonoscopy in Jersey this week, you might want to look into that. Okay? All right. Do you know anybody, Envy?
Starting point is 01:17:53 Yes, I do. Myself. But go ahead. Continue on. Okay. Okay. Yes, but here's the thing, right? Stop thinking that money can allow you to skip steps.
Starting point is 01:18:02 All right? In a situation like this, what's required is time. You need to put in the time to actually be a nurse so you know what the hell you are doing, okay? I am gonna tell you something my therapist told me. I was venting to my therapist one week about people, you know, friends, family, because I'm blessed, okay? I'm blessed black and highly favored, okay?
Starting point is 01:18:22 I'm blessed to be in a position to put people in position. OK, I've created opportunities for myself that allow me to create opportunity for others. And I was venting about, you know, putting people in these positions and they find a way to fumble it. All right. Don't appreciate it. Don't understand how hard it would be, you know, in that position or how hard it would be to get in that position if they didn't have someone assisting them and getting there. And my therapist said to me, you being in the position you are in allows other people to skip steps. And when they skip steps, they don't acquire the skills required to maintain the position you put them in. See, every single step of the way, you learn new skills. Some skills you learn through success,
Starting point is 01:19:00 some skills you learn through failure, but all skills you learn through every experience. When you just give people things and exalt them to positions and allow them to skip steps, they don't acquire the skills and experience they need to stay in whatever position you put them in, they will fumble it. These three Florida nursing schools have done society an extreme disservice because they have allowed a whole bunch of individuals to skip steps, okay? And being that they skipped steps, they didn't gain the skills needed to be one of the world's most important public servants, which are nurses. I don't understand how people can spend so much time and energy figuring out the wrong path to take when the reality is,
Starting point is 01:19:40 if you simply shift your mindset and use that same time and energy to take the right path, you will not only get the results you want, you will gain the experience and skills required to stay in the position that you worked hard for. Please give Palm Beach School of Nursing, Siena College, and Sacred Heart International Institute the biggest hee-haw. All right. That's right. National Institute, the biggest hee-haw. Alright. That's right. Well, thank you for that donkey. Are you on YouTube? Are you on YouTube searching Stink Finger Bingo? No, I'm not. No, I'm not at all.
Starting point is 01:20:17 Oh, okay. Just making sure. Just making sure. I know you had a colonoscopy on Monday. Just looking out. Well, thank you, sir. Alright, well, let's, sir. All right. Well, let's open up the phone line. Something that we were talking about early on this morning. Now, we were talking about a lady that said, my mom won't babysit her grandchild unless I pay $20 an hour plus overtime.
Starting point is 01:20:37 Now, the woman, her name is Nina and her husband. They said they're struggling for money. So they have $7,000 in credit card debt. And Nina said she has to get back to work to make sure that she can help pay all those bills. But grandma says, I don't see an issue. Like, you need the money, not me. And I need my money. I need to pay.
Starting point is 01:20:55 She said, if you had this baby, you should have been able to take care of this baby. So let's open up the question. Let's have this discussion. Now, the mom, the grandma, has been a stay-at-home mom. I guess she's 64 years old, and she's been at home since 1992 and hasn't been part of the workforce since then. But Nina and her husband need to run. I don't see the problem.
Starting point is 01:21:18 What's that? Hashtag pay Nana. No. Hashtag I stand with grandma. No. Grandma should get paid. Listen, first of all if grandma got her own place which she i'm sure she does if grandma still got bills to pay if grandma still
Starting point is 01:21:31 got rent if grandma still need to have groceries in her refrigerator pay grandma and guess what grandma probably gonna take a lesser fee than it would cost for you to actually pay a babysitter or something pay grandma man i don't see nothing wrong with this give grandma her coin that's the that's defeating the purpose of having grandmas right if i pay you 20 an hour and it's eight hours a day that's 160 a day you times that by four four weeks that's 3200 i'm paying grandma a salary to watch my kids no my parents would drop me off every summer in brooklyn and my grandma's house, Starry City, right? My parents didn't pay. Have you ever asked your grandparents?
Starting point is 01:22:08 What? Have you ever asked your grandparents how they felt about that? How you know your grandparents didn't want to get compensated? They couldn't get compensated because they know their kids ain't had no money, right? Or maybe y'all did have a coin. But some of these grandparents are only watching these kids because they know that their children don't have the money to pay nobody. But if you got the money, pay grandma, man. No. Pay grandma. No money pay grandma man no pay grandma you shouldn't be paying a built-in babysitter yes they are that's what grandparents are for man where's our old audience i need people that's 60
Starting point is 01:22:36 and plus six i need the grandparents to call up right now and tell me how you feel i want to hear from none of y'all spoiled ass children who be dropping off y'all uh kids to your grandparents house i want to hear from the grandparents this morning about what they think. I stand with y'all. Y'all should be compensated. No, grandparents should get paid. You shouldn't be paying your mother to watch your kid. No way.
Starting point is 01:22:53 800-585-1051. That's what grandparents are for. That's what they're for. That is not what grandparents are for. Grandparents are supposed to be retired, kicking their feet up. You know what grandparents are for? Grandparents are for to go drop the kids off for a couple hours. And the beauty of being a grandparent is you can take them little kids back.
Starting point is 01:23:09 They ain't yours. Okay? That's not really my responsibility. That's not what grandparents are for. Well, let's talk about it. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 01:23:22 It's topic time call 800-585-1051 to join into the discussion with the breakfast club let's talk about it morning everybody it's dj nv charlamagne the guy we are the breakfast club now if you just joined us we're talking about paying grandma to watch your kids now we were talking about something that was trending was on all the social media sites. A lady said, my mom won't babysit her grandchild unless I pay her $20 an hour plus overtime. What are your thoughts? I think that is foul. I think that's wicked.
Starting point is 01:23:57 I think that's crazy. I think that's what grandparents are for. They're supposed to help. If I have to drop my kids off because I'm going somewhere or I can't afford a babysitter, grandma and grandpa should do it. No, man. Hashtag pay granny. Okay. Hashtag I stand with Nana. Okay. I think that the grandparents should be getting paid. I don't know who told y'all that grandparents are built in babysitters and we take the privilege of having grandparents for granted. The beauty of being a grandparent is that you can be with your grandkids for a little while and then take them right back to their parents, okay?
Starting point is 01:24:28 They're really not your responsibility, all right? So if you got a little change, you got some extra change, why can't you throw it to your grandma? Your grandma got bills. Your grandma still need groceries in her refrigerator. I'm sure your grandma might still have some rent to pay. You're gonna pay your babysitter and you're probably gonna pay your babysitter
Starting point is 01:24:44 three, four times what your grandma would take. So why not pay your grandma? Throw her some money. I don't have a problem with this. How much did she charge? How much you said it was? $20 an hour plus overtime. $20 an hour.
Starting point is 01:24:55 Let's do the math. Come on. Let me get my calculator. Put it like this. If it's eight hours a day. How many hours a day? Let's say eight hours a day they got to watch the kids.
Starting point is 01:25:01 Okay. That's 160. 160. Okay. Okay. Times that by five. Five days a that by five that's 800 i know could probably seven because you know she's going to the club on the weekend 800 man you can pay your grandma your mama 800 a week bro to watch your kids because your the babysitter probably gonna be 2400 a week400 a week. Cut it out, man. That's the reason you're not using the babysitter because you can't afford it.
Starting point is 01:25:28 But let's go to the phone line. Well, if you can't afford $800 a week for somebody to watch your kids, then maybe you shouldn't have kids. You ever thought about that? Jesus. Nicole, good morning. Hello, ma'am. Hello, can you hear me?
Starting point is 01:25:37 Ma'am. I can hear you now. Ma'am. Ma'am. How old are you, ma'am? I'm 33. Oh, you're 33. You ain't nobody, Grandma.
Starting point is 01:25:49 Yes. No, no, no, but I was agreeing with Charlamagne and disagreeing with you, Izzy, because I feel all grandparents should be paid for their time no matter when it is. I mean, I don't think that anybody should just automatically assume that grandparents should watch their grandchildren at any given time. But I definitely think they should compensate in some way. So, I mean, granted, a lot of people enjoy their grandkids. But, you know, as far as financials or what have you,
Starting point is 01:26:22 you never know what type of things they want to do. They, you know, compensate them for their time. Don't just assume that they want to take them and do this and do that. Summertime is different. Spending time with them during the summertime is fun. What's your name, Mama? Janie. Janie.
Starting point is 01:26:37 You got siblings? Do I have siblings? Yes, ma'am. Yes. Did you ever have to watch your siblings? No, I'm the youngest. Oh, your siblings had to watch you Did they ever get paid for that?
Starting point is 01:26:46 No No, they didn't They didn't I have four hundred dollars They never watched Cece What? What?
Starting point is 01:26:53 What Envy is explaining right now Is another problem in our community The oldest child is not the babysitter either And that's my point When you're a child The oldest child is not the other parent either. That's my point. It's not their responsibility to
Starting point is 01:27:09 watch the kids either. Now when they become a grandparent, that's the get back. No. You're missing the point. The point is the oldest child shouldn't be watching the kid. But it happens. We shouldn't be doing that. That's the point. All I'm hearing is... all I'm hearing, huh?
Starting point is 01:27:26 Gil was just on vacation. Who helped me watch the kids? Madison. You think I paid Madison? No, I didn't pay Madison. You a lie. You a damn lie. You just going to not shout out your nanny?
Starting point is 01:27:37 No, the nanny took care of the baby. See what I'm saying, rich man? But the older kids, when I went on the road, Madison was holding a fort down. And I'm not paying Madison. I fund Madison's life. What are we being paid? That is not Madison's responsibility. And if Madison said to you, Daddy, I want to go do things.
Starting point is 01:27:57 I'm not watching these kids. You can't be mad at her. Why not? What you going to say to her? No, you got to watch these kids. They your responsibility. No, they not. No.
Starting point is 01:28:05 That's you and mama's responsibility. Then I'm going to say. Nobody told y'all to be nasty and be sweating on each other and having all these kids. No. Then I'm going to say, oh, you don't want to watch the kids? Well, you know what? I don't want to pay for NYU. You ain't going to do that.
Starting point is 01:28:17 Go to the phone. You ain't going to do that. You don't want to watch these kids? You ain't going to do that. You ain't going to do that. Hello, who's this? Go to the phone. Sharice.
Starting point is 01:28:24 Sharice, you a grandparent? I am. Talk to us. ain't gonna do that you ain't gonna do that hello who's this go to the sherry sherry's your grandparent i i am talk to us honey grandparents need to have be compensated in some form or fashion it doesn't have to be an hourly wage but it should be a border system i'm doing something for you you should do something for me sherry's how many kids you got that's right me i have i have five children five kids kids. So you never had one of your kids watch their siblings? Oh, no. I'm asking seriously. I boom, boom, boom, got it out the way.
Starting point is 01:28:52 Sharice, don't listen to him. He's trying to move the goalposts. No, I'm sure. Hashtag pay Nana. No. Hashtag pay Nana. Grandmas need to get paid. We're not talking about the grandparents watching the kids. No, Sharice. I'm sure you made your kids watch their siblings
Starting point is 01:29:07 and you ain't paid them. So now when they get a little older, this is their get back. I have never had my kids watch each other because they were too close in age.
Starting point is 01:29:17 That's right. Too close in age. How old is he? He ain't got no... How old are you, Sharice? 52. 52 years old. Now, I'm 44.
Starting point is 01:29:28 1978 I was born. I got a 15-month-old, a four-year-old, and a seven-year-old, and a 14-year-old. 14-year-old is cool. Your mama pay her. I agree. And them three young ones be wearing me and my wife ass out, and we in our 40s. Imagine taking them to your 60, 70-year-old something grandma, man. Pay her, man. Period. She's using her resources. She's using her time. If you didn't drop off no food, she's using her food.
Starting point is 01:29:51 You know that kid's hungry. Who's replacing that? I'm not saying give me an hourly wage. That's right. But if I say, hey, stop and grab me a pack of hamburger on the way. When you file your taxes, spot me $100. It's a border system. That's right.
Starting point is 01:30:03 Jesus Christ. That's right. Period. I'm with her. She's absolutely right. When you file your taxes, spot me $100, man. 800-585-1051. We're talking about this woman
Starting point is 01:30:12 that said her mom wouldn't babysit her grandchild unless she paid $20, plus overtime. What's your opinion? Let's talk about it. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:30:20 I ain't no way, man. I ain't playing. I ain't playing. I ain't playing. I ain't playing. That kid don't even deal with that. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 01:30:41 Now, if you just joined us, we're talking about this. It went viral, I think, a day ago, a couple days ago. This woman put on Instagram that her mom wouldn't babysit her child unless she paid $20 plus overtime. So we're asking, what are your thoughts? Charlamagne believes, yes, that's right, pay your grandma. I believe that's grandma. You ain't got to pay grandma. Hashtag pay Nana.
Starting point is 01:31:01 Hashtag pay Nana. I stand with grandma. Let's go. Make sure grandma got them coins. Hello, who's this? This is Taylor. Taylor, talk to us. Yeah, so I was just answering your question.
Starting point is 01:31:13 I feel like if I had to watch my parents' kids back in the day, why can't they watch my kids? I didn't give birth to my sister, but yeah, I had to sit there and watch them for free. That's what I'm saying. That's exactly what I'm saying. You had to watch your siblings, and you ain't get paid. Period. So now when they get older,
Starting point is 01:31:28 you return the favor. That's the barter system. First of all, that logic don't make no sense. And I'm going to tell you why that logic make no sense because number one, the parents should have never had the kids watching the other kids to begin with. It's not their responsibility.
Starting point is 01:31:44 How old was your siblings? She's 24 now, but she was not their responsibility. I mean, I was 17, but... How old was your siblings? She's 24 now, but she was like... So she's 70? And I was like 17. Man, you ain't had to watch her. All you had to do was turn on Blue's Clues and sit her
Starting point is 01:31:55 in front of the television. Knock it off. Gullah, gullah, island. She was twiggy and bad. She was twiggy and bad. I had to watch her. She would be in everything. Eight years old, 10 years old.
Starting point is 01:32:04 It don't matter. I still had to watch them. I could have been outside with my friends. That's right. And all these older kids, now these kids now that's your age. My daughter, my oldest is 14. My second is seven. All you gotta do is turn Bluey on. Y'all ain't
Starting point is 01:32:17 watching no kids. Stop. It's actually Coco Mellon. Hello, who's this? This is Jay. How y'all doing? Coco Mellon ain't messing with that Bluey. Hold on, Jay, real quick. This is a. How y'all doing? Cocomelon ain't messing with that bluey. Jay. Hold on, Jay, real quick. This is a real quick daddy conversation. Cocomelon ain't touching bluey, bro.
Starting point is 01:32:30 You out your mind. You bugging. My babies love that Cocomelon. They ain't messing with that bluey. Boy, when that bluey. I ain't talking about, I ain't say bluey, because I said bluey. When you hear mom, dad, bingo! Bluey!
Starting point is 01:32:45 You got 20 minutes. What? What you mean? You got 20 minutes. When you hear that bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing. When you hear that little cocamelon introduction. What? Mm-mm. Ain't got nothing on Bluey. I'm sorry, Mom.
Starting point is 01:32:55 We'll continue. Go ahead, Mama. What we saying? Hey, I'm Jay. How y'all doing? Good morning. Good morning, Jay. Peace, Jay. So, I am a 32, right? And so my mother still works. But my grandmother doesn't.
Starting point is 01:33:08 And I pay her to watch my daughter. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that. My grandmother's in her 70s. When I had my daughter, I could afford daycare. But I didn't want to put her in because I was kind of nervous. You know, like she was a baby. So I didn't put her in daycare until she turned six months. But for those first few months, I paid my grandmama $80 a week for her to watch my baby.
Starting point is 01:33:28 I don't think she's ever owned it. That's all? That's all? That's all. That's $320 a month. And that really helped her on her bills. My grandmama doesn't have a... Extremely expensive for a newborn.
Starting point is 01:33:43 I know, and you want to give your grandma... It's $800 a month. Can to give your grandma $800 a month. You're going to give your grandma $100? Grandma should be happy to get the $80. Hello, who's this? Hi, I'm Maya. Y'all are so disrespectful to y'all elders. No, we're not.
Starting point is 01:33:53 What's your name, Mama? My name's Maya. Maya, what's your thoughts? I mean, my thoughts as a parent, I mean, I would just say that, you know, granted, like I understand, Grandma wants to make some money, but at the end of the day,
Starting point is 01:34:04 like, this is your grandbaby, you know? Like, it shouldn't be grandmama wants to make some money, but at the end of the day, like, this is your grandbaby, you know, like, it shouldn't be a transaction. You should want to spend time with him. She's only gonna be, he or she's only gonna be the safe one, you know? Absolutely. Spend time with your grandkids. If you don't, I say this respectfully, shut your cheap ass up. You up in here talking about
Starting point is 01:34:19 time spent and all that. You, could you stop? You're just trying to save money. This ain't got nothing to do. That's how you guilt your mama into watching your kids? Hell no. My baby's in daycare. Oh. Okay.
Starting point is 01:34:32 Yeah. But I know. But I do know that if my parents were here, like, for example, like, my father lives in Israel. My mom lives in Florida. If they were here, they would be around my child all the time. I probably wouldn't have to put her in daycare, but I got to work too. I got to provide for my child.
Starting point is 01:34:49 But would you pay them, though? Would you give your parents money? And by the way, I think when I say pay, I'm not even talking hourly wages like the young lady called and said earlier. If there's a bill to pay, pay it. Buy some groceries. That's all. Well, I mean, yeah, no, I definitely would throw them some money. I'm not saying just watch my kid for free, but I mean, I'm not heartless.
Starting point is 01:35:08 But, you know, at the same time, like, I mean, salary and overtime, like, I'm, what? Okay. Thank you, Mama. I can't wait till you become a grandma. Well, all I know is I'm a man. I can't become a grandmother. I'll be a grandfather, you idiot. Oh, I was talking to the lady.
Starting point is 01:35:24 Oh, I thought you were talking about me. And by the way, if you, by the way, if you want to grow up to be a grandma. I can't become a grandmother. I'll be a grandfather, you idiot. I was talking to the lady. Oh, I thought you were talking about me. And by the way, if you want to grow up to be a grandma, you can. This is America. Okay? This is America 2023. If you want to be a grandma in 10 years, you can, Envy. My Jesus. But I will say this, though.
Starting point is 01:35:39 My Jesus. If I lived, if my parents lived in Florida, I would ship my kids to Florida every summer. Just like just like my parents shipped me to Brooklyn every every summer in Brooklyn. If I wanted to go to Brooklyn and I was going to Brooklyn, my parents dropped me off and they weren't. That's what it was. Yeah. But, you know, have you ever asked your parents what they do for their parents for doing that? Like they might have been paying a bill. They might have been throwing your grandparents money. You don't know.
Starting point is 01:36:08 You should ask. I just think that, man, if you're a grandparent, yes, you want to spend time with your grandkids, but you should actually pay your grandparents. Starting point is 01:43:32 in some places, especially where I'm from, South Carolina, it was illegal to teach the enslaved how to read and write. Having a book in print as a black man is very revolutionary. And black people writing books and putting out books is very revolutionary, man. So I'm happy to be doing that during Black History Month.
