The Breakfast Club - Home Alone

Episode Date: January 21, 2022

Today on the show we had comedian Ryan Davis stop by, where he spoke about Carolina roots & representation, "Insecure", working with Larry David and more. Also, after Charlamagne gave "Donkey of t...he Day" to Mitch McConnel for his statements about the black vote, we opened the phone lines to see what age our listeners were the first time they were left at home, but unfortunately for one listener, she had more things to worry about. Starting point is 00:00:00 As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing.

Starting point is 00:00:37 It's surprisingly easy. 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete. Or maybe not. No country willingly gives up their territory. Oh, my God. What is that? Bullets. Listen to Escape from Zakistan.
Starting point is 00:00:51 That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, guys. I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together. Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. to wake up. DJ N, Angela Yeats and Charlamagne Tha God. The Breakfast Club bitches. The voice of the culture.
Starting point is 00:01:46 People watch The Breakfast Club for like news and really be tuned in. It's one of my favorite shows to do just because y'all always keep it 100 y'all keep it real. They might not watch the news but they're on Twitter. They're on Facebook. They're, you know, they're listening to The Breakfast Club. Get your ass up.
Starting point is 00:02:03 Good morning USA. Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo Good morning, USA. Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo. Good morning, Angela Yee. Hey, fam. Happy Friday. It's Friday. Now, Charlamagne will be here in a couple of minutes.
Starting point is 00:02:19 There was actually a big accident when we were coming in. I think an overturned 18-wheeler. It had concrete in it. It was all over the roads on both sides. So, there was a lot of problems in traffic this morning. I know that. So, he'll be here in about three minutes. But what up, Yeezy?
Starting point is 00:02:35 What's up? I'm in Chicago for the weekend. It's cold out there, huh? Oh, my goodness, yes. I think it's like 10 degrees. And I was trying to go outside and go to this restaurant I always go to and in my hair it's really literally like a block away
Starting point is 00:02:50 but I got all turned around. I was outside. I felt like my hands were about to fall off. Did you make it to the restaurant? I did. I went the opposite direction by accident. I was all turned. It took me like 10 minutes to walk.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Wish it had took me one minute. Oh boy. All right. Well, last night I watched Space Jam. the new version, LeBron James version, with the kids. My kids have been dying to watch it. So, you know, like I said, my wife has been doing work on, we have another property, and she's been doing work on that property. So she hasn't been home the last couple of days.
Starting point is 00:03:19 You know, it's been daddy daycare. So they wanted to watch this. So we all got in the bed and we watched Space Jam, LeBron James. Wasn't as good as the first one, but the kids loved it. That's all that mattered. Hasn't that been out for a while? It has. It has, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:33 And they've been wanting to watch it for a while. That and what's the movie with Anthony Ramos? I'll tell you. I like that. I enjoy it. In the Heights. In the Heights, yes. My daughter, who's in acting classes, she wants to be an actress.
Starting point is 00:03:46 I told her about it, and she's been dying to watch it. It just has a lot of language. I don't know if that's suitable for an eight-year-old, but we're going to watch it together. We're going to do that tonight. So today's going to be going to watch that one. Yeah, you know, that's random you say that. I just saw Anthony Ramos last weekend. Really?
Starting point is 00:04:00 Yeah, he was at the Nets game, and then he was at our Nets restaurant we go to all the time in Brooklyn. Okay, all right. Well, let's get the show cracking. We got a guest today, comedian Ryan Davis. You might have seen him on Curb Your Enthusiasm or Insecure. He's performing at Carolines, which is a comedy club here in New York City this weekend. So we're going to be kicking it with him in a little bit. Yes, he's funny.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Yeah, very funny. And we got front page news coming up. What are we talking about? We'll be talking about Mitch McConnell, what he had to say about African Americans as opposed to Americans, because apparently he doesn't realize that black people are also Americans. He didn't know that?
Starting point is 00:04:36 He was confused? No. Okay, all right. Well, we'll get into that next. Keep it locked. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody.
Starting point is 00:04:42 It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Let's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get in some front page news. Now, NFL. That's right. Playoffs are here. Who cares?
Starting point is 00:04:55 Tomorrow, 430. Who cares? The Bengals take on the Titans. Packers take on the 49ers. That's the team that the Cowboys lost to. And on Sunday, the Rams take on the Buccaneers and the Chiefs take on the Bills. That's right. The Cowboys lost two. And on Sunday, the Rams take on the Buccaneers and the Chiefs take on the Bills. That's right. The Cowboys lost to the 49ers.
Starting point is 00:05:10 The Giants lost to the Cowboys two times this year. So what does that make them? Makes us all home watching somebody else's team. I hope your couch is comfortable. Okay. All right. What else we got, Yeezy? Well, just be safe out there this weekend. More than 20 million people from Texas to the Carolinas are under winter weather alerts.
Starting point is 00:05:25 There's a mix of snow and ice on the way. So a lot of people in the Carolinas decided to do virtual learning today and cancel the activities because of the anticipation of the ice and snow storms. And for Texas, wind chill and winter storm warnings are in effect this afternoon. Well, the meteorologists got it right somewhere because they said that it was supposed to be a bad winter storm here yesterday in the New Jersey, New York area. That didn't happen. That wasn't too bad. It was like two inches, three inches of snow, but it's just cold outside.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Nobody wants two, three inches on a weekend. You want more than that, don't you? All right. But you know what I would say, what sucks for the kids out there is there's no more snow days. What do you mean? Yo, you're stupid. You're virtual learning.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Oh, virtual learning now because now like you know they canceled oh yeah and they was like yeah but you still got to go virtually which sucks all right but sometimes they have to make up those days at the end of the year i'd rather just get online and uh let's talk about senate minority leader mitch mcconnell a lot of people are upset because of these comments of his that went viral after party members blocked voting rights and also black changes to the filibuster rule. He was speaking after Republican senators. Once again, I discussed these voting rights legislation on Capitol Hill on Wednesday evening, and here's what he said. What's your message for voters of
Starting point is 00:06:42 color who are concerned that without the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, they're not going to be able to vote in the midterm? Well, the concern is misplaced because if you look at the statistics, African-American voters are voting in just as high a percentage as Americans. A recent survey, 94 percent of Americans thought it was easy to vote. This is not a problem. So we're not Americans? No. I think he forgot to say white Americans. That's what it felt like.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Because we are African Americans. In America. I just thought it was strange yesterday that they had more smoke, you know, for Mitch McConnell instead of having smoke for... I really don't understand how Joe Manchin and Kristen Sinema always duck the online smoke. It's mind-boggling to me that they always duck
Starting point is 00:07:31 the online smoke. Those are the two Democrats that are holding up progress, that are blocking Biden's agenda, and they're supposed to be on Team Democrat. But for whatever reason, they always duck the online smoke. It's mind-boggling to me. Well, there's also a bipartisan Senate group right now. They're meeting over the weekend, and they've been meeting since January 5th, according to reports.
Starting point is 00:07:52 They're trying to go ahead and do a modest package of election overhauls. And so what they're trying to make sure is that election officials are protected and not threatened, and they're not harassed. And they also want to talk about how elections are certified. Also, what the role of the vice president is in the electoral counting process. And how would you deal with an objection
Starting point is 00:08:12 to a slate of electors? So there's different things they're talking about. Democrats want to make sure that the larger voting bill does pass still. I'm realizing... Wait, what did you say? What do you mean, the larger voting bill to John Lewis voting right there?
Starting point is 00:08:27 Yes. How's that going to happen, though, if they just already shot it down? Well, they want to make sure that they still are working on it and trying to figure out how to make sure that passes. They don't want to give up on it.
Starting point is 00:08:38 It's not happening. You know, it's so interesting. Black Democrats act like cowboy fans. I hate to say that. What do you mean? Because I'm a cowboy fan. It's so delusional and we make so much excuses for our team regardless of what they do wrong.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Like it's never, they never get held accountable. We never hold our cowboys accountable the way we should. It's the ref's fault. It's everybody else's fault. And it's the same thing with black Democrats when it comes to the Democratic Party. They refuse to hold that party accountable. That's why else's fault. And it's the same thing with black Democrats when it comes to the Democratic Party. They refuse to hold that party accountable. That's why I was happy to see, you know, Queen Maxine Waters yesterday, you know, speak truth to power with April Ryan. When she was talking about how she couldn't she can't.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Number one, Joe Biden thought that he could work with these people, but he clearly can't. And number two, she never thought that she would see two Democrats do what Joe Manchin and Kristen Sinema are doing to the Democratic Party. At least that's honest. I respect that. Everybody else, y'all just delusional. At the same time, I don't think they should abandon the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. They still have to
Starting point is 00:09:36 try to figure out a way to make that happen. Of course, but how? Right. They have to figure it out. They just got shot down. They shot down the revising filibuster. They shot down the rebuys of filibuster. They shot down voting rights. Like, what are you supposed to do? I mean, of course you keep going, but how?
Starting point is 00:09:51 I just want to know how. What's the plan of action? Because the plan of action can't just be, you know, everybody show up in the midterms and, you know, vote. We need the largest voter turnout in the history of the midterms. That's been the strategy for the last 10 years. All right. Well, if we had more Democrats in the Senate, wouldn't that mean that those two, Joe Manchin and Sinema, wouldn't have as much power as they do? Well, they need to start running some of these people.
Starting point is 00:10:10 That's why I said they need to run somebody in Arizona against Kristen Sinema, run somebody in West Virginia against Joe Manchin. If they're not really on your team, if they're not really on your team and you want to get them out of there, run somebody against them, Democratic Party. All right. Well, let's get it off your chest next. That's Front Page News. 800-585-1051. Call us up right now if you need to vent. You got to get some things off your chest. Phone lines are wide open. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:10:34 The Breakfast Club. Hey, guys. I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast, Post Run High, is all about.
Starting point is 00:10:56 It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together. You know that rush of endorphins you feel after a great workout? Well, that's when the real magic happens. So if you love hearing real, inspiring stories from the people you know, follow, and admire, join me every week for Post Run High. It's where we take the conversation beyond the run and get into the heart of it all. It's where we take the conversation beyond the run and get into the heart of it all. It's lighthearted, pretty crazy, and very fun.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There are 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Laudonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. Why can't I trade my own country? My forefathers did that themselves.
Starting point is 00:12:10 What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets. We need help!
Starting point is 00:12:22 We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection. It was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small,
Starting point is 00:13:14 determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is your time to get it off your chest. Whether you're man or blessed.
Starting point is 00:13:44 We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club. So if you got something on your mind, lay it out. Hello, who's this? Hey, good morning. This is Stevie Steve, the comedian from Delaware. Stevie Steve. Steve, what's happening, brother? What's up, bro? Get it off your chest.
Starting point is 00:13:57 How y'all doing? Happy New Year. How y'all been? Blessed black and highly favored. How are you, sir? Hey, man, same here, same here. Not too much, man. Today's my mama same here um not too much man today my mama birthday man i'm gonna give my mom a birthday shout out okay happy birthday happy birthday mama i know i know she don't listen but i'm gonna let her know how do you know she don't listen because she's fleeing right now oh okay okay hey got throw a cash out there sure she'd be looking out for everybody around here like cook for everybody for everybody. I mean, if anybody want to bless her.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Oh, it's Dollar Sign. I'm sitting there thinking, like, I ain't never taste her food. Why should I give her some? Hey, come to Delaware. Here's cooked for you. Okay. Dollar Sign. O-N-E-I-D-A-M-U-L-L-E-N.
Starting point is 00:14:40 All right. Happy birthday, Mom. Happy birthday, Mom. All right, brother. Thank you. And her some blessings. All right, y'all take it easy. All right, brother. Thank you. And here's some blessings. All right, y'all take it easy. All righty.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Hello, who's this? This is Hannah. Hey, Hannah, get it off your chest. Yes, I want to get it off my chest. I don't know any other way to get this message out to Kim or Ye. But what it is, Kim, darling, you have to understand, when you marry a black man, you marry the entire culture. You did not just marry Kanye.
Starting point is 00:15:08 I am so concerned about these children. I don't see how Pete Davidson is going to pour into these four children's inner genius. OK, now our culture needs all the geniuses that we can get. I'm concerned. You have to soak it up and pour into your family. A little more how Khloe poured into Lamar. Queen, Queen, Queen, Queen, Queen, Queen, Queen, Queen, Queen, Queen. Listen, listen, Queen.
Starting point is 00:15:36 It is 6 o'clock in the morning. How can you assess somebody's situation from the outside looking in? Why are these people on your mind like this? You don't know these people? Because this entire culture is affected. Because I lost my mom at a young age and I have to constantly talk to my children and tell them stories about my mom. You have to, it pours down from the ancestry, right? So tell me how Pete Davidson is going to tap into the ancestry of these kids. Why do you think?
Starting point is 00:16:06 First of all, Kim's not black either. That's number one. Right? And number two, what makes you think Kim wants that? Maybe Kim's just having a little fun. But that's not it. Our culture is affected. What culture?
Starting point is 00:16:19 Whose culture is affected? What are you talking about? I think you should concentrate on your family. Word is born. What are you talking about? I think you should concentrate on your family. Word is born. What are you talking about? When you marry a black man, you marry a whole culture. That is not true. Who told you this?
Starting point is 00:16:33 All that is true because if they split, who's going to tell these children stories about Nanda? Huh? This is your time to get it off your chest. Huh? I'm telling. I'm telling. Hey, what you doing, man? I'm telling. I'm calling you. This is your time to get it off your chest. Whether you're mad or blessed. 800-585-1051.
Starting point is 00:16:52 We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club. Hello, who's this? Good morning. This is JB from the G&B. What's up, bro? Get it off your chest, man. First of all, I want to say good morning to y'all. You and the Charlemagne the God.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Peace, King. I'm calling in here with a political beauty, so I'm going to say good morning to y'all. You and the Charlemagne the God. I'm always calling in here with a political view, so I'm going to just go ahead and make this quick. I was listening to Roland Martin last night, and he was getting on it early this morning. They're going to have to break that bill down into sections in order
Starting point is 00:17:20 to get it passed. Especially with the whole genderm mandarin coming up and all that. Gerrymandering. Yeah, gerrymandering. They're going to have to break sections of the bill down
Starting point is 00:17:32 for them to get it passed. Little is better than nothing. And we got to start calling these people what they are. Political terrorists. They're willing to throw democracy away in the name of white supremacy.
Starting point is 00:17:44 And unless we understand that as a people, we're going to always feel like we've got to be attached to a party. They treat it like a business. We've got to treat it like a business. A hundred percent. If they're not willing to do what they're supposed to do, we've got to vote them out. That's it. Because sitting home and thinking, oh, I ain't going to do that. Because if you listen to what Mitch McConnell said, he
Starting point is 00:18:07 basically have a new bonus to say what they've been doing on the state and local level. They're setting this all up for 2024. What you mean 2024? They're setting this up for the midterms. What are you talking about? There's a battle between DeSantis
Starting point is 00:18:23 and Trump right now in Florida. And if you look at what DeSantis did in Florida on the state level, you know, with the whole banning of making whites feel guilty, not making them feel guilty about white supremacy and the history of the past and all that, you got to look at what they're doing. They already set it up. And if they get it for 2022 and 2024, you can kiss the whole decade goodbye of us even being able to participate in that way. When they lose
Starting point is 00:18:53 the midterms this year, you can kiss the whole decade goodbye. Democracy as we know it died this past weekend. Or yesterday. Whatever the hell it was. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. All right. When we come back, we got the rumors. We got to talk about Complex's Best Rapper Alive.
Starting point is 00:19:09 We'll get into it next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. What the hell is wrong with you? This is The Rumor Report with Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club. They hit Envy with their wrap it up. So Complex has named Tyler, the creator, the best living rapper of 2021.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Now, according to Complex, they said Tyler, the creator, didn't become the best rapper alive overnight. He's been on the annual list because of a debut album that immediately took over the charts, a viral craze, or a modern sound. Instead, Tyler played the long game, and after a decade of groundwork, he became the best rapper of the year on his own terms. They said, the Call Me If You Get Lost is a lot of things. It's a project from the Gangsta Grills series
Starting point is 00:19:58 narrated by DJ Drama. It's a playground for some of rap's most unique voices, Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, NBA Youngboy, and others to experience themselves in exciting ways. It's a soundtrack for some of rap's most unique voices, Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, NBA Youngboy, and others to experience themselves in exciting ways. It's a soundtrack to traveling adventures, and most importantly, it's an excuse for Tyler to rap and show his reach as an emcee. Yeah, I mean, it's an opinion.
Starting point is 00:20:15 It's Complex's opinion. I'm not mad at it. Tyler gets busy. Yeah, Tyler gets busy, so I'm not mad at it. And that album was dope. So it's a debate. These things, you know, things spark discussion, right? Yeah, they said
Starting point is 00:20:27 he delivered the most focused and technically impressive album of his career thus far. Alright, now shares of Netflix has tanked 20% and that's because of weak subscriber outlook. So they missed their own expectations.
Starting point is 00:20:44 They were supposed to add a certain amount of subscribers. They didn't make those expectations. And they have a lot of competition as well. That's right. So they're trying to offset their slower growth with higher subscription prices. We told you guys already that they raised their prices. And canceling a subscription is difficult.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Like I looked at my bill the other day and I looked at all the subscriptions I have. And I've been trying to cancel them for a couple days now. Me too. I'm definitely narrowing down a lot of these streaming services because I really don't watch a lot of TV. Disney+, Hulu, YouTube, Netflix. Only one I know for sure I'm keeping is Disney+.
Starting point is 00:21:17 NFL. I got a mad subscription. And I've been trying to cancel them. It's difficult. It is. Well, they did confirm that Squid Game Season 2 is on the way, by the way. See, I'm keeping Netflix, though, because Netflix has been around. Netflix is like a staple.
Starting point is 00:21:30 And I'm definitely keeping Disney+, because they have a lot of programming that I watch. Other than that, I watch ESPN and CNN and MSNBC and Fox News all day. Yeah, my wife watches. What's that thing on Hulu that all the women watch? Handmaid's Tale? Yeah, Handmaid's Tale. Yeah, my wife watches that. Oh, yeah. So that's the only reason why we keep a Hulu that all the women watch? Handmaid's Tale? Yeah, Handmaid's Tale. My wife watches that. That's the only reason we keep it on Hulu.
Starting point is 00:21:47 I always watch that on the plane. I binge watch it. I watch the Wu-Tang Show on Hulu. Showtime has released a trailer for We Need to Talk About Cosby documentary series that's coming from W. Kamau Bell. It is all about Cosby and the sexual assault
Starting point is 00:22:04 allegations surrounding him. It's a four-part documentary series. It was set to premiere at Sundance Film Festival later this month. And here is that trailer. On that set, I saw black writers, black directors. Did you ever go to jobless when he was young? He was a pediatrician.
Starting point is 00:22:20 He was an OBGYN. That's right, he delivered babies. Oh my God. You could have been a dentist for crying out loud. Bill Cosby has been leaving breadcrumbs. He was talking about how to drug women. Beautiful women. They were lined up outside of his dressing room.
Starting point is 00:22:37 What did you think was going on? He looked at me and he said, fool them again. We never knew Cosby. And then you played that. I didn't know that was a Showtime documentary. But you don't pay for Showtime. That was on your cable thing, right? Yes. You pay for Showtime and your cable is premium. You have to pay for that.
Starting point is 00:23:10 Yes. All right. Now, Adele is really sorry about having to cancel. She was supposed to be doing this residency in Vegas. It was supposed to start January 21st and run until April, with shows every Friday and Saturday. But at the last minute, she's had to cancel. Here's what she said. I'm so sorry, but my show ain't ready.
Starting point is 00:23:31 We've tried absolutely everything that we can to put it together in time. Half my crew, half my team are down with COVID. They still are. And it's been impossible to finish the show. I can't give you what I have right now. I'm so upset and I'm really embarrassed. And I'm so sorry to everyone that's traveled again. We're on it. We're going to reschedule all of the dates. We're on it right now and I'm going to finish my show and I'm going to get it to where it's supposed to be. All right. So we'll keep you updated on that. And that is your rumor report. All right. Thank you, Miss Yee.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Now, front page news coming up. What are we talking about? Let's talk about Vice President Kamala Harris. She was on the Today Show. And her and Savannah Guthrie were going head to head, talking about a lot of different things, including Russian aggression against the Ukraine. And we'll tell you what happened. All right. We'll get into that next.
Starting point is 00:24:21 This is The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Good morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Let's get into some front page news. Now, NFL football. Wow, humbug.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Titans take on the Bengals tomorrow at 430. 49 is the team that beat the Cowboys. They take on the Packers tomorrow at 8. The Cowboys, the team that beat the Giants twice in the regular season. The Giants, the team that didn't even make the playoffs. Stop talking about playoff business, all right? Rams, Buccaneers, Sunday Bills, Chiefs on Sunday. If your team did not make the playoffs,
Starting point is 00:24:52 you cannot slander the Dallas Cowboys. We practiced one extra week than everybody else did. Okay? We practiced one extra week than a lot of teams, okay? Especially the Giants. All right, Vice President Kamala Harris was on the One extra week than a lot of teams, okay, especially the Giants. Well, what else you got, Yeezy? All right, Vice President Kamala Harris was on the Today Show,
Starting point is 00:25:13 and she was discussing the tensions surrounding the situation in Ukraine. President Biden made some comments earlier this week that a minor incursion by Russia into Ukraine would prompt a lesser response than a full-scale invasion. The Ukrainian president pushed back, saying there are no minor incursions in small nations. Now, if Russia does invade Ukraine, it will have major implications on the oil industry. It would drive up oil and gas prices. So here is what Vice President Kamala Harris had to say about dealing with Putin and Russia in case they do move on Ukraine.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Is there any amount of land that Russia could take that the president would allow, turn a blind eye to, not issue those, quote, severe sanctions he's been threatening for that massive full-scale invasion? Our interpretation of any country, in this case Russia and Vladimir Putin, denying or violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine will be interpreted as aggressive action and it will be met with a cost, a severe cost, period. America is a confusing country, man. It really is. Because it always just feels like this country is fighting harder for other countries than we do for ourselves.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Russia hacked our elections, flooded the country with disinformation, and America didn't do nothing. But they want smoke and want to talk tough if they invade Ukraine or threaten to invade Ukraine. All right, well, here's more of what Kamala Harris had to say about Putin. And this part went viral because people felt like Savannah Guthrie was being rude to her and interrupting her while she was speaking. Part of the posture that we have taken is grounded in the respect and the value we place
Starting point is 00:26:53 in sovereignty and territorial integrity. And I'm so sorry to interrupt, but it is less than clear because 30 minutes after the news conference, the White House press secretary had to actually clarify the president's remarks. Savannah, I'm being clear with you right now. Yes. OK. And so if you're interested, I'll continue to be clear, which is that we we have had direct conversations through various levels of diplomacy with Putin, with Russia and most importantly, with our allies and partners. But the press secretary did have to clear what Biden said, because, you know, it sounded like, you know, when he says a minor, a minor incursion sounds like, well, you can invade them a little bit, but not too much. Like I didn't understand that rhetoric either.
Starting point is 00:27:36 But I also don't understand how Russia, Russia can hack our elections, flood the country with disinformation. And I didn't hear none of that tough talk about that. That's when the tough talk should have happened, right? Right. And some people said it was just being a journalist, trying to make sure that she doesn't stick to those PR-friendly answers and trying to get into some real questions. Of course.
Starting point is 00:27:58 You always got to ask politicians something twice. Always asking the same question twice. Because once they get that scripted answer out the way, now they got to deal with the truth. All right, now Peloton says they may consider cutting jobs and resetting production.
Starting point is 00:28:11 They're considering all options, including layoffs and production curbs after a report that the fitness firm has stopped manufacturing its bikes and treadmills.
Starting point is 00:28:19 That's since she was crashing. But they said, rumors that we are halting all production of bikes and treadmills are false, but what they are doing is considering all options. So they said rumors that we are halting all production of bikes and treadmills are false, but what they are doing is considering all options. They said the company is right-sizing production in response to seasonal
Starting point is 00:28:32 demand curves. I remember when the pandemic didn't help, but then they did a commercial and so I guess that helped their shares, but during the pandemic when it first started it was almost impossible to get a Peloton bike. Yeah, I'm about to buy one.
Starting point is 00:28:49 And their shares actually, their shares sank nearly 24% yesterday. They said it's their worst day in more than two months. Yeah. Everybody that uses it seems like they love it, though. You don't ride like you used to, huh? It's like a Peloton community. Nah, I haven't had that much time. I got a newborn and all that, but I'm going to get back on it.
Starting point is 00:29:06 Okay. You going to ride with me? No. You sound disappointed, Charlamagne. You don't ride like you used to. Nah, I just say, you know, and we don't stick to nothing sometimes. You got all these hobbies.
Starting point is 00:29:14 It's cold out right now. And it's freezing. That's why I said I want to get a Peloton so I could ride in the crib. Okay. All right, well, that is your... All in biker shorts for nothing. All that gel for nothing
Starting point is 00:29:25 front page news nah I'm still gonna ride yeah you had a padded biker shorts yeah I still got them I'm gonna ride I'm gonna get back on the horse you guys what is a catalytic converter we got a group text message somebody sent the catalytic converter
Starting point is 00:29:40 that's what Doc Brown and Marty McFly used to travel to the future in the past that was in the past. That was in the DeLorean, right? I don't know. Yeah, that was in the DeLorean. I was confused. Alright, well.
Starting point is 00:29:53 That is your front page news. And when we come back, Ryan Davis will be joining us. He's performing at Caroline's this weekend. You might have seen him on Insecure or Curb Your Enthusiasm, and we're going to kick it with him next. So don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:30:06 As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions. But you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself, and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, it was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before.

No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a racket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh, my God. What is that?
Starting point is 00:31:48 Bullets. Bullets. We need help! We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Starting point is 00:32:52 beyond the run and get into the heart of it all. It's lighthearted, pretty crazy, and very fun. Listen to post run high on the I heart radio app Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Breakfast Club. Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlemagne Tha God. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlemagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club. I just wanted Charlemagne to see his mask. That's all. Oh, yeah. That's all. He just wanted you to see his mask, Charlemagne. Congratulations, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:33:25 Congratulations. I'm not Congratulations, Ron. Congratulations. I'm not a hater. Congratulations. You know? He's wearing a 49ers mask. Congratulations. You'll be home with us after this weekend. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:33:33 I don't know, man. You sound like a hater. We beat Green Bay a lot. I sound like a hater. We got Ryan Davis in the building. Now, you know, he's a diehard Cowboys fan. Yeah, man. So how did it feel when your 49ers beat the Cowboys?
Starting point is 00:33:45 I'm sure you heard him talking all this ish. Why is it about beating us? Why can't it be how did it feel when your team won? Because they beat them to win.
Starting point is 00:33:52 I've never liked y'all. You know what it is. It's like, what do you mean? It's always a little extra. People love to hate the Cowboys. It's y'all's fault, man.
Starting point is 00:34:02 It's y'all's fault. Because every year y'all's here. Next year I'm going to be sitting right here saying we going to the Super Bowl. It's ridiculous, man. How's it going, Ryan Davis? It's been going good, man. Now you're in town right now because you're performing at Caroline's over the weekend.
Starting point is 00:34:16 Yeah, man. Tell the people who is Ryan Davis. Who is Ryan Davis? Ryan Davis is probably the best comic of this generation, man. Talk, man. He's talking about himself in third person. Yeah, I mean, he asked it that way comic of this generation, man. Talk about himself with that person. Yeah, I mean, he asked it that way, so nah, man. Mostly, man, comedy enthusiasts, man.
Starting point is 00:34:35 I've always wanted to do this, man. I still kind of can't believe this is my life, to be honest with you. Social media, I use social media to kind of catapult my comedy career. And I'm not a big fan of social media but you know it was a necessary tool. One of my favorite things to do is watch you duck in the smoke on the 5150 show. Oh yeah. Corey don't give a ****. Corey don't care nothing about somebody's career. I'm like, I'm still on the way up. Could you please not set me up to be canceled? Love that dude, though.
Starting point is 00:35:10 But yeah, he don't give a fuck. But that's honest, though. Do people even give you backlash for that, though? Just even? Oh, yeah. They do. They were like, oh, they go automatically. Oh, Ryan's scared.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Ryan will wear the dress. I was like, how I end up in the dress? Because I don't want to answer his question. Would you wear a dress? No. No. Okay, just asking. Nah. Did you see what Steve the dress? Because I don't want to answer this question. Would you wear a dress? No, no. Okay, just asking. Did you see what Steve Harvey said about he doesn't want to do another special because of cancel culture? He said sponsors and all of that.
Starting point is 00:35:34 The only person who can say what he wants is Dave Chappelle because he doesn't have to worry about sponsors and networks. I don't know, man. I say what I want, so I don't know. So my thing is there's a way to say stuff. I think sometimes comics use that as a, and I'm not saying Steve Harvey is, but I feel like a lot of comics use that as an excuse not to do the work. You know, any joke you do, you just got to do it so well that the people that you're talking about laugh at it too.
Starting point is 00:36:02 So do the work. That doesn't make you nervous at all. Because this is a cancel culture. They'll cancel you in a minute. It's not real. It's more outrage than actual cancellation. You got to ruin your sponsorship, your advertisements, and all that. It depends.
Starting point is 00:36:14 Well, let's just say what you want. Say this. I don't want to lose my money. I don't want to play with my money like that. But it ain't because of... You know, what would Steve Harvey have to say to get canceled? It's Steve Harvey. He would have to say something ridiculous to get canceled.
Starting point is 00:36:31 By the way, they canceled Steve for actions. They canceled Steve. Well, we use the word canceled, but they were outraged when he met with Trump. Right. You know what I mean? So it's like it wasn't even something to say. And now he a judge. It doesn't stop.
Starting point is 00:36:43 You know what I mean? It doesn't stop. Cancel. Who has been canceled? That's right. You know what I mean? That's right. It doesn't stop. Canceled. Who has been canceled? Let's just keep it real. Who? I mean, really nobody, but people, I mean, like if you, I guess when you go to prison, but even still that don't stop nothing.
Starting point is 00:36:55 Even still, R. Kelly getting his streams. Yeah. And there's people that support him. Yeah. Yeah. No one. Bill Nye was canceled for a minute. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:03 But he's still rich. Yeah. I mean, that only hurt like Elvin. When they canceled Elvin. Elvin on the power now. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. But that's the only person I saw get hurt from canceling Bill Cosby. Did you see T.I. doing stand-up?
Starting point is 00:37:21 No, I ain't seen that. Play it for him. Play it for him. You got to play it for Ryan. But we don't know if it's really stand-up. I bet if he's on the stage. I think T.I. was just doing T.I. on stage. Killer Mike did a set at my show in Atlanta.
Starting point is 00:37:33 Yes, he did. How was it? He was actually funny. Dog, Mike is funny, man. Yeah. You can tell he was nervous, though. He was wrapping the mic cord around his arm, terrified. I got to hit my brother today and see what the hell going on.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Why are Mike and T.I. doing stand-up? What's going on? I think it was on Mike's bucket list. You know what I mean? He got up and did it. He was actually pretty funny, man. I couldn't believe it. He had a set and everything.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Yeah, nah. It was pre-planned. This wasn't. I told him. He was like, man, I'm thinking about going up there. I was like, don't say that to me because I'll put you up. He went up, but he made sure I stayed on stage with him just in case everything went left.
Starting point is 00:38:13 But no, it was good. It is an amazing craft, though. But one thing you realize when you up there, when it's just you one-on versus the crowd, like it's you versus the crowd, that's for the the lead up to the professional yeah god man yeah people see i'm gonna tell you who's a actually a decent stand up that actually does do it tank i heard that okay yeah i've heard that too yeah he's pretty
Starting point is 00:38:36 funny he's pretty funny yeah i would have never believed that but it's something you have to work at because i don't think anybody could get on stage and just hop up there and just be funny because there's a lot of technical things I did this show on Facebook called mastery of comedy where I had some comics teaching like up-and-coming comics just some techniques yeah there's things that physically you have to do on stage also it's not just what you say but it's also your delivery it's also like where the mic is and like you said like timing the chord. Yeah Yeah, and you know, you got to be brave man. So what was one of your worst shows? My crush was in the front row. Oh.
Starting point is 00:39:31 I was, and I'm telling you, it was one of them days where I just, I was cocky. I knew it. That's why I invited everybody out. It's this spot in North Carolina. Shout out to Tito Koontz. It's called the Omega House. Okay. It's the fraternity house. They've been running comedy there for over 20 years, like the last Friday of every month, right?
Starting point is 00:39:47 And then I went to do the show, and when I tell you I was bombing, and what made it even worse is that it was like five people on the show, and everybody was getting stand-in-o's. So it wasn't the audience. I had nobody to blame but me, and I could see the girl in the front row like,
Starting point is 00:40:04 ugh, this is... I was like, oh, yeah, I lost her. So I could see the girl in the front row like, ugh, this is ****. I was like, oh, yeah, I lost her. So you didn't get to hit her nothing. Man, nothing. I was like, I hope she forget me. What was so bad, though? Yeah, what went wrong? Like you said, there's a lot of things that go into comedy, man.
Starting point is 00:40:20 And if you come on the stage arrogant people read that on you and like with me my particular brand of comedy man it's it's way more mainstream so if i'm in front of niggas then niggas is like humble yourself nigga you know you're coming before us you got something to prove to us we ain't got nothing to prove to you and i and i did i kind of i kind of was pretty arrogant that day, man. And they humbled me. So basically, when she saw you on Insecure, she was like, I remember him. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:52 I did get the DM, though, after Insecure. Glad you kept pushing. Hey, I'm proud of you. I know. I know. And what was your best show? Now, positive. What was the best show?
Starting point is 00:41:02 You remember? There you go. The best show you did. It was sold out. Crazy. It was one of those moments you might even tear it a little bit oh man i have a lot of those man i have a lot of those because i love this one of my uh memorable shows is uh i did new year's with gary elwynn and uh it was like 6 000 people man and it was the first time i had done an audience that big. And I killed pretty hard, man.
Starting point is 00:41:34 And Gary and his ex-wife came back to this room to give me my props, and he was repeating jokes that I said on stage or whatever. And these are people that I never even thought I'd meet. So, you know, and I did a show with Deion Cole, and he was like, man, your pen is magnificent. You do jokes that I wish I had thought of that joke. So, you know, and I did a show with Deion Cole, and he was like, man, your pen is magnificent. You do jokes that I wish I had thought of that joke. And that's like the biggest compliment from somebody who's, you know what I mean, great at the craft like that. So those moments I remember the most.
Starting point is 00:41:56 All right, we got more with comedian Ryan Davis. When we come back, don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We're still kicking it with comedian Ryan Davis.
Starting point is 00:42:12 You've probably seen him on Curb Your Enthusiasm or Insecure. How did you get into comedy? What was your start? What was it that made you say, you know what, I'm funny to try this? I never thought I was. I love comedy so much, and I respected it so much. I looked at those dudes as superheroes, man. Like who? Oh, man. Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Patrice O'Neal. much and i respected it so much i looked at those dudes the superheroes man like who oh man eddie
Starting point is 00:42:25 murphy chris rock dave chappelle patrice o'neill well i yeah um dl hugley yeah you know bernie mack the whole kings of comedy when you saw kings of comedy no i don't think anybody was looking at that like i can do that nope yeah you know what i mean you never want to feel like that yeah you never nah so you know um kevin hart was the one who finally pushed me over the edge, man. He did Let Me Explain, and he sold out Madison Square Garden. And at the end, he's crying because he's one of the few to sell out Madison Square Garden. This dude had a dream, and he made it to the pinnacle of that. And I'm sitting here watching this dude, like, make it not even to the finish line,
Starting point is 00:43:03 but to a point maybe he he thought he wasn't going to reach and i was like man ryan have you even tried to chase a dream have you ever tried to accomplish something that you wanted to accomplish in that way and i got on stage three days later i love that story but i don't know how i feel about uh you know kevin making you be the one to step up on that stage but everybody else made you feel like you couldn't do it nah it was it wasn't because I didn't look at what Kevin was doing and going I can do that I wanted to feel like that the way yeah he made me see it differently than everybody else man Kevin Hart gives great interviews man yeah he does what were you doing
Starting point is 00:43:45 before you tried to stand up? I was a pharmacy technician, there's always this like rags to riches story like man I was poor and then no I was fine I was fine but that's hard too to give us something that's stupid
Starting point is 00:44:00 yeah no I was man because it's like cause it's the great unknown, man. You give away something. You walk away from something that when you're comfortable to try something that's completely uncomfortable, man, there are no guarantees in this at all. Not at all. And you don't get paid a lot. It takes a while to get paid.
Starting point is 00:44:20 You pay to do this job in the beginning. Yeah. It costs you. They give you $100. You got to bring 30 people. You got to drink five job in the beginning. Yeah, it costs you. They take up comedians. They give you $100. You got to bring 30 people. You got to drink five drinks. Two drink minimum.
Starting point is 00:44:29 Yeah. Crazy. Man, I remember I got into the business of comedy because of that. I did a show. My very first time getting on stage, like 50 people came out to see me. And they all paid to get in. They all paid for food, drinks, everything. And I paid to get on stage
Starting point is 00:44:46 that day you was like that's great i was like i think these is on me fifteen hundred dollars it cost fifteen hundred no i'm just saying i started doing the math between the ticket and then the food and then what i was like he's made fifteen hundred and ten dollars off my money off of me. So I created a show. I'm from Concord, North Carolina. I created a show called Finally Something to Do in Concord. There ain't much to do at home.
Starting point is 00:45:12 Concord. Yeah. Right by Charlotte. Right by Charlotte. Yeah. So Blackson came and did my show. Wow. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:45:20 And it's so little to do at home. People didn't believe that he was coming. That's how crazy it is. I was like, nah, man. I was doing a show with him. He's coming. They're like, man, you don't know no Michael Blackson. That's the city that I live in.
Starting point is 00:45:34 I don't think people realize coming from the Carolinas how we didn't have any of that entertainment-wise. No. Like nothing. No music. No comedy. We didn't have nobody to look to to be like, oh, I can go do that. Yeah. So when I see you and I see the baby or anybody that's from the Carolinas, it's just like, yo, you got to salute them.
Starting point is 00:45:52 I'm telling you, I remember when everything first popped off of me and I went to the radio to promote my show because the show sold out. I added another show. So I had to go do promotion. And the baby was sitting there on the couch trying to get his music played. Wow. Yeah. Was that Power 98? Nah I think it was that 92.7 and my man Chewy was there.
Starting point is 00:46:13 He was hanging out with Chewy. Yeah my guy. Smooth to Chewy. Yeah and Chewy man. Switch 92.7. Man that's a good dude man and then he was like yo I got this mixtape out coming out called Baby Talk 5. You know what I mean? Check it out, man.
Starting point is 00:46:28 I'm telling you. I was like, dog, I know who you are. Like, you hide around here. I know who you are, man. I'm going to check it out. And he had this song called Today off of that. And I heard it. I was like, oh, this is going to be gone.
Starting point is 00:46:39 I just had a feeling. And, man, it didn't take long. I say two years after that, we had all-star weekend in charlotte and everybody came to charlotte and you just heard blank blank that mixtape everywhere and then he dropped baby on baby and it was over out of here out of here donald rollins did his special um in charlotte i was there and the baby was there also yeah charlotte's a great place to do comedy beautiful city yeah now moved back. I just moved back there from L.A., man. Smart mother f***er.
Starting point is 00:47:08 I bet your house crazed. I ain't got it yet, but yeah. We been looking. I'ma tell you what. I'ma tell you. Chico Bean called me stupid every time he would see me in L.A. Why? Because he stayed in North Carolina. He was like, stay there and get your house and do everything.
Starting point is 00:47:24 Like, every time he come to L.A. for any reason, he's and get your house and do everything. Like, every time he come to L.A. for any reason, he's like, see, he's still out here. Stupid. What made you leave L.A.? There's no reason to be there anymore. Listen, all auditions are done digitally. No one's calling you in to do anything. Like, my
Starting point is 00:47:39 name is good enough to where if somebody really wants me to audition for a role or wants me to go out there to see it i'm doing well enough i can just fly right out there how did the insecure role happen because you know that's my show oh man i love that show i never thought i'd be on that show um shout out to apprentice penny man the showrunner man he actually saw my audition and he was just like that dude you know what i mean he was he gave me a shot and then I just had one line on season four and I was like cool I got to do a little one line what was the one line uh you gonna eat your
Starting point is 00:48:11 sandwich I got hair in mine so you had a few more this season you had the beach scene the car scene so when they uh they called me they were like like, you ready to do Insecure again? I was like, I don't have a reoccurring character. And they were like, you do now. And I was like, cool, man. I'm down to say another line. Do you really like Jason Derulo that much in real life? Man, probably.
Starting point is 00:48:38 No, I'm just saying, I always, like, when getting ready for that role, I was like, man, I wonder what would a Jason Derulo fanatic really be like. So I tried to, like. I was wondering when you ad-libbing. I was like, he picked Jason Derulo the day right then. No, they wrote Jason Derulo. So it's some stuff that's ad-libbed and then there's some stuff that's in the script. And it's just up to the actor to bring it to life.
Starting point is 00:49:04 And I didn't realize how fun acting can be you know what i mean and um isa ray man she creates an environment to where you know you could really really have fun and and when doing something like that like her yvonne and natasha they made it really easy for me to be comfortable in the space because i'm not an actor. And, you know, I didn't ever really feel uncomfortable on set with them, man. And out of all the projects that I've done, all the things I've seen, I've never seen so many black people on a set in my life. And a couple of people told me, don't get used to that.
Starting point is 00:49:41 That's not what they're doing over there at Insecure. It's special, you know. And I'm just grateful to be able to do it because to me that show is legendary all right well don't move we got more with brian davis when we come back it's the breakfast club good morning morning everybody it's dj envy angela yee charlamagne the guy we are the breakfast club Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We're still kicking in with comedian Ryan Davis.
Starting point is 00:50:12 You've probably seen him on Curb Your Enthusiasm or Insecure. There was also a rumor that you died. Oh, yeah, man. They stay killing me off. Where did that rumor come from? What was it, Young Shelton? The show Young Shelton? It was another Ryan Davis.
Starting point is 00:50:24 Yeah, so a dude, Ryan Davis died. Fat white dude died. He died and nobody did their research. They just googled Ryan Davis and I guess I'm the first one to pop up. I found out at
Starting point is 00:50:39 my show. Somebody was like, nah, I just came to make sure you was really still here. It's all the internet, you had died. Black people are so funny, man. We know our people. Like yesterday, it was, what's the brother that died? The Vogue editor. Oh, Andre Leon
Starting point is 00:50:55 Talley. I told Duval, I said, man, Andre Leon Talley died. He texted me back the next month, man, I thought you were talking about Leon from the Five Hot Beats. Oh my God, he took one name. One name. That's crazy, man. It wasn't from the Five Hot Beats. Oh, my God. You took one name. One name. That's crazy, man. It wasn't even the first name. No.
Starting point is 00:51:09 How do you incorporate being a father into your set? I'm just honest about it, man. Shoot, I have a son that's possibly on the spectrum. I talk about that in my set. I talk about what it is. Maybe autism? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:51:22 Maybe. What do you say? You don't know yet for sure? Before. Because it's one of those things where the doctors is like, nah. And we like, they don't know what they're talking about. The doctors are telling you no, but you're like, nah. Nah, I ain't never met no n***a like this.
Starting point is 00:51:35 This is. What makes him like that? What makes him like that? Man, he don't talk, man. Man, he don't talk, right? Yo. Because he talking. That n***a love me to death, but don't talk, man. Man, he don't talk, right? Yo. He doesn't talk a lot. That nigga love me to death, but don't talk.
Starting point is 00:51:47 You see the excitement when I walk in the door, but then he just. He says nothing at four. Nah, he ain't say nothing. He started talking now, though. He does. He says something. I don't really understand it. It takes time.
Starting point is 00:51:59 Some kids are all. Hey, I believe you. He's probably gifted, man. He is gifted. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he my son. He better be. To be honest with you, I like people that talk less nowadays.
Starting point is 00:52:10 Now, Mount Rushmore of comedy, right? This generation and of all time. Okay. This generation. Are we talking all things comedy or just stand-up? All things comedy. All things comedy. All time.
Starting point is 00:52:24 Eddie Murphy. Adam Sandler. This is where it gets tough I'ma go Dave Dave Chappelle I might have to take Dave out I'ma take Dave out Chris gotta have the guy
Starting point is 00:52:42 Chris Rocco on there Chris and Dave gotta be on there yeah you can only have one so who's not if not Dave who? out Chris I had a guy Chris Rock on Chris and Dave gotta be on it yeah well you can only have one so who's not with Dave not Dave you gotta put Chris in the spot of Dave okay so Eddie Chris and I'm sad of? You and Adam Sandler above Dave. Dave is one of, like, unarguably one of the greatest stand-ups of all time. So is Chris Rock. And I like Chris Rock's catalog better than Dave's.
Starting point is 00:53:17 I agree with that. So we just talking stand-up. No, because if we just talking stand-up, then Dave's in there. But we talking all comedy. That's how Adam Sandler is in there. Look at Adam Sandler movie catalog. The Chappelle Show. The Chappelle Show is amazing.
Starting point is 00:53:31 The Chappelle Show plus the stand-up. The Chappelle Show is amazing. Wasn't it Living Color amazing? It was. I mean, look at what Jamie Foxx has done comedically. You know, Jamie Foxx Show was a hit. This dude got movies. Damon Wayans, all he's done in comedy.
Starting point is 00:53:47 I mean, shoot, even Ice Cube. Ice Cube. It ain't what he done, but I said in comedy, but this is how funny the game is now. One of the biggest, most successful people in the comedy game movie-wise is a rapper. I don't feel like black comedians get the opportunity in movies as much as they should, but we'll talk about that some other time. The last person, give me some more.
Starting point is 00:54:14 Not mad at that at all. I'm going to tell you why. I think that is the best female comedian ever. I would concur. Yeah. I love concur. Yeah. I love some more. You got to put some more up there, man. I feel like Jess Hilarious is her comedy daughter.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Man, I love Jess, man. I want to see Jess win all the time, man. That's another one. That's another one. But she's winning, but she's doing theaters, and I feel like nobody even is recognizing that. You know what I mean? They all going to get their justice.
Starting point is 00:54:47 Yeah. Jazz, DC, Chico, Carlos, it's coming. Yeah. So comedy is male-dominated, and it was really male-dominated when Samoa was doing it. She was headlining these tours, even with D.L. Hughley and these other guys on the tour. That's insane.
Starting point is 00:55:04 Hosted Def Jam, hosted Comic View. Man, she, you know what I mean? And I feel like Hollywood always fronted on Samoa. Always fronted on her. To this day, Samoa should be on somebody's TV show. Listen, don't let me get the TV show because she on there. As soon as I get it. You're going to have to beat me to it.
Starting point is 00:55:21 See there, look, I get it. She on there. I love Samoa. Yeah, Samoa. Like, yeah, nah, that's Rushmore. I'd have put Dave over Adam, but I feel it. I love some more. That's Rushmore. I'd put Dave over Adam, but I feel you. It's just Adam. That catalog is too. And then he's got Saturday Night Live on top of that.
Starting point is 00:55:35 I don't want to take away from what he's done, man. And the amount of friends he put on. He put his boys on. He's Rushmore. Dave can knock him out if Dave go out and do some other stuff. I mean, you look at guys like Eddie and Robin Williams. Like, Robin Williams
Starting point is 00:55:52 deserved to be there, but I got Eddie there. Two people are in the same lane. I kind of don't put two people in the same lane on the Rushmore. I'll be interested to see how Eddie's stand-up is going to be now that he's back to doing stand-up. The funny part is, I think he'll be perfectly fine. I think he should do, like, remember when Mike Tyson did that one-man show? Yeah. I I don't want to see it. Now he's back to doing stand-up. The funny part is I think he'll be perfectly fine. I think he should do like remember when Mike Tyson
Starting point is 00:56:06 did that one man show? Yeah. I think Eddie should do something like that. We don't know. I mean it could be amazing though. I'm looking forward to it. I think you're underestimating
Starting point is 00:56:14 the greatness of that dude. Comedy is hard. I think he's looking like Coming to America 2. I think he's basing it off of Coming to America. Eddie didn't write that so you're blaming him
Starting point is 00:56:24 for somebody else's work. Who should we blame? Who wrote it? I don't know. I know who wrote it. I can't got no two, but I don't want to say because I don't want to be wrong.
Starting point is 00:56:32 Yeah. Give me the new generation. Who's the new, the new, the new? Right now, I put 85 South. You got to put their heads together on the Rushmore, man. Okay. Yeah, what they're doing is phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:56:44 You got to put Jess. You got to put Wayne. Yeah, Rushmore, man. Yeah, what they're doing is phenomenal. You gotta put Jess. You gotta put Wayne. Yeah, country Wayne, man. Then there's me. I really just didn't name me to be humble in the beginning. I was gonna name me first, but I left the last spot for me.
Starting point is 00:56:59 I haven't seen Wayne's new stand-up. Wayne has got really good, man. He works hard. I respect that. He's always working. He's got three web series going at one time. Every day. Ain't nobody working harder than him.
Starting point is 00:57:12 And he embraces who he is, too. Like, everything that you could use against him, he just... Yep. That's why... Hey, man, you got all them kids. I sure do. And I take care of all of them. Child support.
Starting point is 00:57:22 He just go. He just go. What about Andrew Schultz andrew schultz andrew schultz is my guy love andrew man i wish i could have did the tour he invited me out to start it out in uh texas with a man and uh i couldn't do it because i was on my tour that dude is phenomenal it's funny that you brought him up because he should be up there i would put andrew on my mount rush yeah he definitely should be up there but i would put Andrew on my Mount Rushmore. Yeah, he definitely should be up there. But I was answering quick because then he was like,
Starting point is 00:57:47 all right, all right, who today? I was like, damn, let me think. But no, so. But Andrew, yeah, Andrew is phenomenal. Make sure y'all check out Ryan Davis. He's on that Mount Rushmore at Caroline's this weekend. You will not regret it. You'll only regret it if you don't come.
Starting point is 00:58:02 I'm trying to come on to the Friday show. I think I'm going to come on Friday. I'm going to come to one too. You can go to carolines.com for tickets. That's going to be Friday and Saturday, 7pm and 9.45 on Friday and 7pm and 9.45 on Saturday. I'm coming Friday, Greg. Yeah, Greg, I'm definitely coming this weekend
Starting point is 00:58:18 too just because you said you're the greatest stand-up of this generation. And I know you're funny. Haven't seen a stand-up yet. I want to see. Alright. But when I do it, I need you to come right back on here and be like, alright, that little wasn't lying. I'm going to give it up. Alright. You know? But I just let you know.
Starting point is 00:58:34 I ain't worried about that. There is no other side. There is no other side. There is no other side. No worries. Ryan Davis! It's your breakfast. Hold on. Give me your social media and all that. Ryan Davis comedy on Instagram. Or just type in Ryan Davis comedian in Google. It'll give you everything, man.

Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine.
Starting point is 01:00:06 I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There are 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia.
Starting point is 01:00:20 Be part of a great colonial tradition. Why can't I create my own country? My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? Be part of a great colonial tradition. What could go wrong? I was making rockets with black powder, you know, with explosive warheads. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets.
Starting point is 01:00:37 Bullet holes. We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, it was literally
Starting point is 01:01:21 that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best.
Starting point is 01:01:41 And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Listen up. It's just in. All it got. Got.

Starting point is 01:03:36 I wanted to build with him. I wanted to grow with him. And I wanted us to bear fruit together. And I saw that it meant so much more than just kids. It meant like family and visions and hopes and memories. that it meant so much more than just kids it meant like family and visions and hopes and memories and it all happened here so this picture was taken in monaco france which is why this nursery is themed after baby jay's name monaco okay congratulations to the monaco monaco dropping the clues bombs for young monaco my guy jeezy jenny ma congratulations man love is beautiful man have y'all ever been to monaco

Now, Carucci Tran, Dwayne Martin and more have joined the cast of Fresh Prince Reboot. It's called Bel Air.
Starting point is 01:04:37 And they'll all be appearing in that first season, according to Deadline. Joe Holt, April Parker Jones, Devante Hart, Scotty Thompson, and Charlie Hall. So get ready for that. You guys excited to see the Bel Air show? I'm gonna be honest with you, man. I want to watch it. I'm going to watch it. I just don't want to see
Starting point is 01:04:57 Fresh Prince Dark, but I'm gonna watch it to see what it is. It's just like, wow, we had to turn to Fresh Prince Dark. But I'm gonna watch it. I'm definitely gonna watch it. I'm kind of scorned by coming to America. Why are you wearing a turban? It's not a turban. It's just like, wow, we had to turn the Fresh Prince dark. But I'm going to watch it. I'm definitely going to watch it. I'm kind of scorned by coming to America. Why are you wearing a turban? It's not a turban. It's a mask. I just... What? It looks like a turban. No. But I was kind of hurt by coming to
Starting point is 01:05:13 America, too. I didn't like the remake to that. I'm hurt by your turban. I can't talk to you no more. I'm distracting, man. I'm distracting. I want to have a real conversation about Bel-Air and you got this turban on. Please. Are you copying Nick Cannon? That's exactly what he's doing. You got as much kids as Nick Cannon. Now you want to wear a turban like Nick Cannon. This is not a turban.
Starting point is 01:05:28 A vice versa. Y'all copying each other. But yes, I want to watch the Bel-Air show. It just freaks me out that it's dark. I guess because we grew up on the Fresh Prince and we see the reruns all the time and it's such a light, bright show. They had dark moments. It just looks dark.
Starting point is 01:05:42 Yes. Damn. But I'm going to watch. All right. All right. moments, but it just looks dark. Damn. But I'm going to watch. Kevin Gates was on the Big Facts podcast and a lot of things were discussed on there. He talked about his evolution, his diet, spirituality, depression, battling with
Starting point is 01:05:55 thoughts of suicide, and so many other things. Here's what he had to say. When I disabled my Instagram, this is my first time ever speaking about this publicly. I had put on Twitter, all my friends and my family for getting on my teachers. I love you all. It's over with.
Starting point is 01:06:11 See, I don't do the, man, I'm about to kill myself and I don't want no attention. I was going, you know, the way of the samurai. You smash myself because I was to the point I didn't want to live no more. A lot of men don't speak about this, but a lot of men suffer in silence also. When you're a provider and you're a real, real provider but you are really unhappy and you're not feeling like you're being celebrated in a proper manner, you feel like you're only being tolerated.
Starting point is 01:06:43 All right, he talks about when he turned the corner and how somebody approached him. And it actually really helped him because he was really thinking about ending it all. I'm walking out the gym. White boy walked up on me. You know, kind of big. I see him in there a lot. He's like, man, your music, the only thing that makes this crazy world make sense. I was like, man, the world's a cruel place, man.
Starting point is 01:07:04 Trust me. I know I'm laughing, but I know what I'm about to go do. So he was like, man, I was worried about you because you had disconnected your Instagram and your Twitter. The world
Starting point is 01:07:18 needs you. I say, listen, I swear to God right now, I'm about to go push my shit out. He cried and he grabbed me. He said, if you do that, so many people are going to take their own life because you all we got. Salute to the Big Facts Podcast.
Starting point is 01:07:36 Rapping includes Bonsai Scream, Jade, and Big Banks. I got to listen to that this weekend with Kevin Gates. You can catch the Big Facts Podcast on the Black Facts iHeartRadio Podcast Network, by the way. But I'm telling you, man, that's why conversation is important and communication is important because you never know what people are going through. And that's why they always say be kind to people that you meet randomly.
Starting point is 01:07:56 Because what if Kevin Gates would have bumped into that dude and had a bad experience with that dude? And that dude would have made Kevin Gates, you know, feel even less worthy. And I've been there. I've been down that dog hole and it's hard to get out of it. But once you get out of it, we have to talk about it more because a lot of us go through things like that and don't know who to talk to. It's not a conversation you have at the barbershop
Starting point is 01:08:16 or with your guys or with your girls. You don't have that conversation. So the fact that he's able to have that conversation is amazing. I was just talking. I mean, I have these conversations all the time, but I was just having this conversation yesterday, and it's amazing the things that we tell ourselves. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:08:29 Like the negative things that we tell ourselves. Like we talk about being kind to other people. Man, you got to be kind to yourself. When you wake up in the morning, what do you tell yourself? What do you tell yourself throughout the day? Well, that comes from, you know, you feeling like you would be, your life and your family and the people around you will be better off with you not here. Yeah, you don't feel
Starting point is 01:08:48 worthy. And you think about that in your mind. I just got to a place of worthiness two years ago. Well, three now, because December 2019. December 2019, I got to a place of worthy. You worthy to me. Give me a hug. You know what? I do want a hug, my G. I want a hug. I want a hug. I can't. Hug me, my brother.
Starting point is 01:09:03 I love you, brother. I love you. I'm glad I'm in Chicago. That is your rumor report. I love you, and I value you, and I appreciate you. And I'm glad you didn't put that pelvic on me just now. You know? You're making a lot of strides. I love you, too, man. I'm glad your sweatpants was, you know what?
Starting point is 01:09:17 Never mind. We did it. We did it properly. We split. That's right. And I keep telling y'all, we got to do that to each other. You got to tell each other that you love you you love people you value them You appreciate them because you never know what people may be going through everybody out here be suffer from you know
Starting point is 01:09:30 A lack of self-worth in some way shape or form All right Sorry wasn't here for that huggy Who are you giving your dog you to now, you know, I need Mitch McConnell to come to the front of the congregation. I'd like to have a word with him. Plus, it's an opportunity just to have a teachable moment. That's all. All right, we'll get into that next.
Starting point is 01:09:51 It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Let's go. It's time to wake up. It's The Breakfast Club. It's going down. Angela, you here. And my friends at The General Insurance give you quality car insurance for less.
Starting point is 01:10:05 Check out their affordable rates and flexible payment options by calling 800-GENERAL or visiting thegeneral.com. The General Auto Insurance Services, Inc. and Insurance Agency, Nashville, Tennessee. Some restrictions apply. This is a miracle. There is no question that there are problems in this country between police and community. Yes, you are a donkey. The latest on that police killing of a black man. Now to new developments in the deadly spa shooting rampage. And yesterday was a really bad day for him, and this is what he did.
Starting point is 01:10:36 And so we are in a state of emergency. Okay, white supremacist violence is and always has been the number one threat to our society. But I'm also very proud that my wife is white. The Breakfast Club, bitch! Oh, I love it. Alright, Sean Lee, please tell me, why was I your donkey of the day? Well, donkey of the day for January 21st goes to United States Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Yesterday, I'm sure you saw him trending on social media after he made what people have described as an insidious comment.
Starting point is 01:11:06 See, prior to a vote to move the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to the Senate floor, Mitch McConnell was asked by a reporter about concerns among voters of color in which he implied African-Americans are not Americans. Let's listen to the clip. What's your message for voters of color who are concerned that without the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, they're not going to be able to vote in the midterm?term well the concern is misplaced because if you look at the statistics african-american voters are voting in just as high a percentage as americans a recent survey 94 of americans thought it was easy to vote this is not a problem well you know when somebody shows you who they are, believe them. I don't feel a way about those comments because whether he's talking out loud
Starting point is 01:11:50 or talking in private, they have shown us that's exactly how they feel through actions and legislation. It's very strange to me that people react with such, you know, emotion and vigor over what someone said as opposed to what someone did. All right, that clip of Mitch McConnell saying that yesterday went stupid on social media. It was everywhere, all over my feed. OK, a lot of y'all had more smoke for that clip than y'all have for Congress failing to advance voting rights legislation and changing the filibuster.
Starting point is 01:12:17 It's strange. All the Republicans and two Democrats, OK, Senator, our president, Joe Manchin, and Senator, our vice president, Kristen Sinema, killed voting rights legislation, made sure it died in the Senate. All right. The night before that Mitch McConnell clip went viral. But y'all make the Mitch McConnell clip go crazy for what? You know who he is. Mitch McConnell or any Republican saying something like that, you know, and you being surprised. It's like being surprised that you see Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa sharing a blunt.
Starting point is 01:12:46 I mean, if they were sharing it, I can understand being a little taken aback because number one, they're both rich enough to have their own blunts. They can take it to the head and two, COVID, but you understand my point. There's nothing to be shocked or surprised about here. Okay, do you know what Mitch McConnell has done to you niggas and has been doing to you Negroes?
Starting point is 01:13:03 He literally calls himself the self-proclaimed Grim Reaper of the Senate. Play the clip. Think of me as the Grim Reaper. None of that stuff is going to pass. None of it. But I guarantee you, if I'm the last man standing and I'm still the majority leader, it ain't happening. Mitch McConnell said, and I quote,
Starting point is 01:13:23 my top priority when President Barack Obama was in the office, my top priority is to make Barack Obama a one-term president. Listen. Our top political priority over the next two years should be to deny President Obama a second term. He also said, and I quote, 100% of his focus is blocking the Biden agenda. Listen. 100% of my focus is on stopping this new administration. Y'all was shocked about what he said yesterday. Come on, man.
Starting point is 01:13:53 That's why it's comical that President Joe Biden thinks he can work with these people. OK, people like Mitch McConnell are clear on who they are. They're clear on what they are about. So they shouldn't shock you or fool you. I think it's strange that y'all got more smoke for Mitch McConnell than y'all do Kristen Sinema and Joe Manchin. Okay, if you're a Democrat and you voted for Democrats, don't be shocked or appalled by the wolves in the Republican Party. We know they wolves, all right? That was just howling on Mitch McConnell's part.
Starting point is 01:14:17 Some might say dog whistling. No, that was a big-ass wolf howling at the moon, reminding you how he feels about you, okay? America is a white country, and anyone who isn't white is another. Anyone who isn't white isn't a true American. That's how they see things. Okay. White is the standard of this country.
Starting point is 01:14:30 That's why they call it white supremacy, white superiority. Everyone else is inferior. Okay. Less than. They said it in the constitution with the three fifths compromise. We acting like we don't know. It's two Americas. We know this.
Starting point is 01:14:42 Okay. We know the black American experience isn't the same as the american experience all right that's why we keep fighting for equality so what's there to be outraged about when he said that all right that's just confirmation if anything because we know how republicans feel so that part isn't even really the part mitch is getting donkier today for he's getting donkier today because what he said is just a lie okay all this voter suppression directly impacts black people people of color are disproportionately impacted by voter suppression this is a statistical fact okay across the country 1 in 16 black americans cannot vote due to disenfranchisement
Starting point is 01:15:17 laws okay counties with large and minority populations have few fewer polling sites and poll workers per voter all right in. In 2018, Latinx and black Americans were twice as likely as whites to be unable to get off work while polls were open. 25 percent of voting age black Americans do not have a government issued photo ID. We could talk about redistricting and gerrymandering, felony disenfranchisement. Hell, I didn't think I could vote back in the day because I'm a felon. All right. And I can hear some of y'all. Well, don't commit crimes and you won't lose your right to vote. Well, Mr. White man, due to racial bias in the criminal justice system,
Starting point is 01:15:52 felony disenfranchisement laws disproportionately affect black and brown people. It just is what it is. OK, we often face harsher sentences than white people for the same offenses. And Mitch McConnell knows this. He knows that these laws are rooted in the Jim Crow era when legislators tried to block black Americans' newly won right to vote
Starting point is 01:16:08 by enforcing poll taxes and literacy tests and a bunch of other fear factor challenges that were nearly impossible to complete to this day. The states with the most extreme disenfranchisement laws
Starting point is 01:16:19 also have long histories of suppressing the rights of black people. So Mitch McConnell just lied. Okay, that black voters are voting in just as high percentages. Americans, whatever that means is a nothing burger with cheese. But once again,
Starting point is 01:16:31 he's a wolf. Don't be shocked when a wolf shows you they a wolf worry about them foxes. That's what Democrats are. Okay. Either y'all are as delusional about Democrats as I am about my Dallas Cowboys, or y'all simply don't believe Fox's bite. Okay. It's two Democrats who kept voting rights legislation from advancing, just like they have kept everything
Starting point is 01:16:49 else from advancing. Build Back Better, George Floyd Policing Act. OK, Vice President Harris not getting to be the tiebreaker and vote on none of that because of Joe Manchin and Kristen Sinema. OK, Maxine Waters said this when she was on with April Ryan this week. Listen, we never thought and I never thought that any one or two members of the Democratic Party on the Senate side would do what they're doing to us now. Well, please believe it. Believe it, please. OK, give them to smoke. Put pressure on them. Make them go viral every day. OK okay those foxes worse than the wolves because one we voted for those foxes okay we voted for democrats i expect the people i voted for to get things done all right and those two foxes are blocking everything i want done and i don't see other foxes applying enough pressure to them about what they are doing at least not publicly
Starting point is 01:17:39 all right i told y'all yesterday those wolves don't allow that. You either down with the pack or you not. OK. And number two, those foxes, Democrats, they be acting like your friend. Uncle Charlotte, Brother Leonard, what are you talking about? Wolves and foxes, foxes and wolves. Well, don't listen to me. Listen to Brother Malcolm X. He warned you all about these liberals a long time ago. Listen, there are many whites who are trying to solve the problem, but you never see them going under the label of liberals. That white person that you see calling himself a liberal is the most dangerous thing in the entire Western Hemisphere. He's the most deceitful. He's like a fox. And a fox is always more dangerous in the forest than the wolf.
Starting point is 01:18:21 You can see the wolf coming. You know what he's up to. But the fox will fool you. He comes at you with his mouth shaped in such a way that even though you see his teeth, you think he's smiling. You take him for a friend. The moral of the story is wolves are foxes don't make good house pets. So stop trying to pet them. They're not your friends. Please give Mitch.
Starting point is 01:18:38 Please let Remy Ma give Mitch McConnell the biggest hee-haw. Hee-haw. Hee-haw. You stupid mother******. Are you dumb? I like my mother f***er. You dumb. I like my damn Palo Santo. All right. God damn it, my lighter don't...
Starting point is 01:18:50 Oh, here it goes. All right, thank you for that donkey of the day. Yes, sir. Now, let's open up the phone line. Now, Connecticut mom left two kids home alone while she vacationed in Florida with boyfriend. Guess what, racist? How old were the kids?
Starting point is 01:19:05 Under the age of 12. She went for two days and she told them, just eat candy. When one of the kids was like, well, what are we going to eat? She said, just eat candy. I'll make it up for you. She also said in a separate interview, she told them, allegedly the kids told them, that mom said, stay downstairs in the basement. Don't come upstairs
Starting point is 01:19:21 no matter what. And you have snacks, candy and Uber Eats. That's definitely white. Wow. That's definitely white because a black person. That's dangerous. A black person may do something like that to go to work. Oh.
Starting point is 01:19:32 So we're asking 800-585-1051, what age were you when you were left home alone by yourself? That is the question. 800-585-what? We grew up in a different era, though. So that don't even count for us. Wow, what age were you? I was like
Starting point is 01:19:50 7, 8 years old. Hell yeah! I used to get off the bus. Well, you would wait till your mom came home, right? Yeah, you wait till your grandma, wait till my grandma God bless the day, wait till my grandma come home. My grandma was a lunch lady at R.A. Ready Elementary School. No, not a weekend, no. Well, you ain't say a weekend. You just my grandma come home. My grandma was a lunch lady. Yeah, but they wouldn't leave you for a weekend. No, not a weekend.
Starting point is 01:20:06 This mom left them for a weekend. Well, you ain't say a weekend. You just said left at home by yourself. When your parents went away away. Not just, you know, wait till my mama come home. She'll be home in a couple hours. I'm talking about when your parents went away. No, I don't even remember. All right, so let's talk about it.
Starting point is 01:20:18 800-585-1051. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Hey, what up, y'all? It's DJ Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Say goodbye to screenshots and screen recordings that can haunt you forever. You can join show pages, group chat with your friends, and even self-destruct messages after they are sent. Get Dad Chat for iPhone and Android at the App Store or find it at datchat.com forward slash envy. It's topic time. Call 800-585-1051 to join in to the discussion with The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 01:21:08 Let's talk about it. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Now, if you're just joining us, we were talking about this Connecticut mom who left her two kids home alone while she vacationed in Florida with a boyfriend. Now, both kids were under the age of 12. The kids survived off of candy, snacks, and Uber Eats deliveries. There was a text message from one of the kids and her mom, and it said, Just eat candy, whatever's downstairs.
Starting point is 01:21:36 There's so much downstairs, and I'll make it up to you when I get back. Lord have mercy. And then she said, delete all these text messages. After, obviously, the kids didn't delete those messages. And then she said, delete all these text messages after. Obviously, the kids didn't delete those messages. So we're asking 805-85-1051. Guess what? No, I'm just joking.
Starting point is 01:21:53 We're asking, when were you ever left home by yourself? What age were you? I mean, I would say about 10, 11. Say that in context. You said that to me last time, and I immediately started thinking about as a kid. You mean for a long period of time? For a long period of time. Like what, a weekend?
Starting point is 01:22:09 Yeah, a weekend or even a day. Even a day, like you don't see your mom or dad. I mean, at I believe 10, I was able to take the bus home, and I was home until my mom got off of work. Oh, I was doing that much earlier than 10. I was about 10. I was definitely absolutely positively in elementary school. Really?
Starting point is 01:22:25 100%. You know, I grew up in Salute to Mouse Corner, South Carolina all day. And I mean, I'm 43 years old, so I grew up in a time where you could leave your doors unlocked.
Starting point is 01:22:32 Like literally, people on my grandma's dirt road would leave their doors unlocked and, you know, the screen door would just be open. So it's like, I would get off work,
Starting point is 01:22:40 I would get off, I said work, I would get off the bus and go sit on my grandma's porch or sit in the house or play in the yard until she got off work. She was a lunch lady at R.A. Ready in the media school. But you did the cheese bus thing, right?
Starting point is 01:22:52 The hell is the cheese bus? Yellow bus. Yellow bus. Yeah, yeah, cheese bus. Yeah, I mean, we had to take the bus. It was another color bus? That's what they called it, cheese bus. You know, but mine was, but I would take the public transportation and I would have to
Starting point is 01:23:04 walk up and then I would be in that crib until my mom came home. And it would be like, you know, three was, but I would take the public transportation and I would have to walk up and then I would be in that crib until my mom came home. And it would be like, you know, three, four hours. Same. That was like, I think about 11 years old, 10, 11 years old. What about you, Yee? Well, we definitely weren't allowed to leave the doors open or unlocked. Not at all. I have an older brother.
Starting point is 01:23:18 I have an older brother. So, and we always went to the same school. So I would walk to the bus stop. I would walk and pick up one of my friends in the morning. We would take the public bus to school. And I did that in elementary school. And then we would come home. My grandparents lived downstairs from me.
Starting point is 01:23:32 We had a two family house. So my grandparents would be home downstairs. Oh, so that's not fair. You would never left alone pretty much. Yeah, but we definitely not overnight. We could come home and be home. Then my grandparents moved to Montserrat in the West Indies when I was really young.
Starting point is 01:23:45 But, yeah, they would leave us maybe for a couple hours until they got home from work. But it was me and my older brother. He's a year and three months older than me. Yeah, I was never. Never overnight. I was never allowed to stay at the house without my parents overnight. Never. I don't think my parents took vacation.
Starting point is 01:24:01 No. My parents, they never went nowhere. If they did, I went with them. We would drive down to Orlando. I'd be with them we drive to new jersey to see my family i'll be with them we i never i don't i'm sitting there thinking about it nope i've never stayed home as a kid for no weekend not even a day no me neither i would i would go stay with somebody go stay with your grandma or something that's never happened never never with me like i'm the same i would stay with my grandmother if my parents went on vacation we all went on vacation that's
Starting point is 01:24:23 crazy all right well let's go to the phone lines hello who's this hi how you doing this is me the kabibi calling from new jersey hey good morning so we're talking about morning being left at home while your parents went away way not just you know when they popped up and had to come home from from work i'm talking about maybe went away for a day or so yes so i was nine the first time that they left me home. And the thing was that my dad, he like, he built furniture for celebrities and stuff. And my mom was with him all the time. I was homeschooled and my siblings were homeschooled.
Starting point is 01:24:56 So they would leave us home. And I had a little sister, baby sister. She was breastfed. I'd have to take care of her, keep her from crying. And a couple of times they did leave us home overnight. So, you know, it was tough. You were like an adult. So they would leave you overnight?
Starting point is 01:25:16 Yeah, they would leave me overnight. I remember one time being up all night with my sister because she was like maybe six, seven months old and she was crying. Ain't no way in hell. How old were you? Well, Charlamagne, I was between nine, ten, eleven. Charlamagne, I mean my... A seven month old
Starting point is 01:25:36 in Jersey. What part of Jersey? Let me tell you. We was in Patterson, New Jersey. Patterson? Let me tell you something. Yeah, let me tell you. Okay, Evie. So, I mean, my father, he was crazy. He was the music video director. And my story, he started molesting and raping me from a very young age.
Starting point is 01:25:57 I've had four children for him over the years. I didn't escape him until I was 24. So his whole mind frame back then was just about, you know, control and he was very unorthodox in how he did things. That's an understatement, Queen. Lord have mercy.
Starting point is 01:26:17 You can't be coming with those left hooks like that, man. You said three, four children by him? I had four children by him over the years. By your dad? Yes. By my father, yes. Yeah, him leaving you home alone was the least of your concerns. Lord have mercy.
Starting point is 01:26:32 Yeah. Where is he now? Hopefully in jail. He's serving nine years in prison. You can Google me. I wrote a book about it and everything. What's your name? Aziza Khabibi.
Starting point is 01:26:44 Aziza Khabibi. Hold on on what's the name of your book unashamed alike painted i'm gonna order your book man maybe you know i'm gonna order your book i'm gonna read it maybe you pop up here one day you know we have a little we have a conversation about that absolutely for the world to hear her dad was a music video director sheesh yes yes all right Video director. I was cooking.
Starting point is 01:27:16 So I was adulting from a very young age. Wow. Yeah, I'm looking at this Glamour magazine article on you now. Yeah, I'm looking at it. Yeah, it was on the IG network as well. I'm going to order your book right now, Aziza. We're going to get your information. Eddie, get Aziza's information.

Starting point is 01:27:42 I had to double ask. I was like, no, she didn't just say that. Wow. All right. Sending you healing energy always, alantly. I had to double ask. I was like, no, she didn't just say that. Wow. All right. Sending you healing energy always is easy. I am ordering your book right now. I'm ordering her book off Amazon right now. Geesh.

Starting point is 01:28:01 We are good on this topic. This topic. Grand opening, grand closing. Lord have mercy. The race of the lady was Asian. Yeah. That she was Asian. Lord have mercy.

Starting point is 01:31:20 I'm saying 2 Chainz. The artist 2 Chainz has been around for about 12. 12 years. It ain't long ago. Diddy is working on his new album, Off The Grid. He talked about this back in July of 2021. He was on Instagram. There were some posts
Starting point is 01:31:37 regarding his next studio album. The picture showed the title, Off The Grid, Volume 1. The release date was supposed to be September 24th. That date clearly has been passed. Diddy hasn't provided any information, but earlier this week, he was in the studio with Mixed by Ali, TDE engineer Mixed by Ali, and the two of them were in the studio and then according to the caption by Mixed by Ali, he posted a historical
Starting point is 01:32:00 moment having Diddy pull up to the legendary K&M Studios, now No Name Studios, not to mention this classic R&B album that I'm grateful to be a part of hashtag off the grid I wonder what the vibe of that album gonna be cause I definitely heard one record embracing his new love persona on the album that's what he's saying, a more zen approach
Starting point is 01:32:17 to life, embracing love and positivity so it's probably gonna be a love album. I was thinking it'd be like the joint with Keisha Cole, Remember last night? That's what I was thinking. There's one record on there that's going to definitely bring you to tears.
