Starting point is 00:00:00 Had enough of this country? Ever dreamt about starting your own? I planted the flag. This is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete. Or maybe not. No country willingly gives up their territory. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:00:16 What is that? Bullets. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. We need help! That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you think about current hip hop as it pertains to steam, there's a lot of synergy there. Science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics all in the music. That's something that I didn't know. Maybe you didn't either. What's happening?
Starting point is 00:00:45 B.Dot here. I am thrilled to be right here at the Thrills of Possibility Summit at the National African-American Museum of Music right here in Nashville, Tennessee. Thrills come in different ways, but nothing is more thrilling than education. So join me on this journey of discovery right here in the National African American Museum of Music, courtesy of Nissan and the Black Effect Podcast Network. The room we're in is the message room. It's current hip hop. You dig what I'm saying? And when you think about current hip hop as it pertains to steam, there's a lot of synergy there. So let's break down the five letters, science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Science is all in the music. Whether you're talking about acoustics, physics, computer science, the way music makes you feel, that's neuroscience.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Like if you're in the gym, you probably want to listen to Eminem. You want to lose yourself in the music. But if it's Mother's Day, you probably want to hear some Boyz II Men. Let's go to the T. The way you're consuming this podcast right now is technology. The way you listen to your favorite music, technology. Let's go to the E, engineering. Engineers are needed to mix and master music and podcasts alike. Whether using sound effects, different instrumentals and music beds, that's all engineering, baby.
Starting point is 00:02:00 And now the arts. Like when lyricists use their words as an art form, like when Tupac references Shakespeare. Or the entertainer himself, lyricists use their words as an art form. Like when Tupac references Shakespeare. Or the entertainer himself. That's art. The medium he's using. Art. The visuals. That's all art. Then you got the M. The mathematics. You can talk about the beats per minutes in songs. Or you can talk about the way songs are constructed with 16 bars in a verse. Or you can go back to 90s hip-hop and listen to some Nas or Rakim or Ghostface. And they always talked about today's mathematics.
Starting point is 00:02:28 What's today's mathematics, God? Oh, it's the third three. That's understanding, God. Word. Listen, mathematics is all around us in the music. And so is things, science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, all in the music, all in the culture.
Starting point is 00:02:43 And I am thrilled to bring that to you straight from the National African American Museum of Music, because that's something that I didn't know. Maybe you didn't either. Okay, bye. Had enough of this country? Ever dreamt about starting your own? I planted the flag. This is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy.
