You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs,
Starting point is 00:00:40 and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast, Post Run High, is all about. As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself.
Starting point is 00:01:20 It's okay. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:01:34 or wherever you love to hate. From the East to the West Coast. DJ Envy. Angela Yee. Charlamagne Tha God. The realest show on the planet. This is why I respect this show, because this is a voice to society. Change in the game. You guys are the coveted morning show, but y'all earned it. Impacting the culture.
Starting point is 00:01:58 They wake up in the morning and they want to hear that Breakfast Club. The world's most dangerous morning show. We in the mother, We in the house. Good morning, Angela E. Good morning, D-Zambie. Charlamagne Tha Guy. Peace to the planet. It's Monday. Yes, it's Monday.
Starting point is 00:02:33 And let's start off by congratulating Cardi B. Drop one of Clues bombs for our very own Bardi B. That's right. Cardi B picked up a Grammy last night. Best rap album. I say our very own because, you know. Because what? We've been doing the Breakfast Club for, it Breakfast Club for it's our ninth year? Yep.
Starting point is 00:02:47 It's our ninth year. Like, so some people you really watch come from the ground up. Correct. Like, really come from, like, the ground up. We would be in here six, seven years ago watching Cardi be on Instagram and join her. And to see her on the Grammy stage winning best rap album of the year really
Starting point is 00:03:03 brings me joy. Absolutely. Congratulations. I think they said she's the first solo rap female artist to win in that category. She is. Yes, she is. I have no idea. No, she is. She is.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Congratulations to her. The only other female that won in that category. Lauryn Hill? Lauryn Hill. But she won with the Fugees. Yeah. Well, congratulations to Cardi B. It brings me great joy to see Bardi doing what she's doing.
Starting point is 00:03:21 She looked really good. Her performance was dope, too. Performance was dope. She definitely killed it. And I love the fact she did a record like Money and didn't pick some commercial tune to do it to Grammys.
Starting point is 00:03:29 That's right. That's Cardi B. She went out there and kept it gutter. Absolutely. And didn't curse. Nope, she didn't curse. They had a track, though,
Starting point is 00:03:35 which was good. Yeah, but you know what? The one thing I would say about Cardi B, she's never switched up. She's always remained and stayed the same. Yeah, but you know,
Starting point is 00:03:43 that's what they say. They say money doesn't really change people. It just magnifies whatever it is you already were. So if you was a D-head before you had money, all money going to do is make you more of a D-head. That's right. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:03:53 Cardi has always been a cool, pure person. Absolutely. And so now you're just seeing more of that cool, pure person. And Childish Gambino won two Grammys last night, so congratulations to him also. He didn't show up to the awards. No, he did not. And where the hell did Drake come from?
Starting point is 00:04:05 I thought he wasn't going. I thought Drake didn't do award shows. He just came out the back. He was just in the car. He came there to try to diss the Grammys. And they cut him right off. Okay, go to commercial. They didn't even give him no music. You know how they give you a little music before they're about to cut you off? They didn't even give him no music. They just cut him.
Starting point is 00:04:21 Damn it, man. But some people were very excited to win their Grammys. What he said was real, though. You some people were very excited to win their Grammys. Yes. What do you say was real, though? You know what I'm saying? You got a bunch of culturally clueless people, and they don't validate whether or not you pop it. It's the people who validate whether you pop it.
Starting point is 00:04:34 The people who come to your shows, people who buy your albums, it's the people. Not those culturally clueless people. That's what they did to Drake last night. You cut Charlamagne off? Not those culturally clueless people at the Grammys. That's what they did to Drake last night. And dropping the clues bombs for everybody who had on their Gucci last night.
Starting point is 00:04:47 I knew that once T.I. called for that protest on Friday, I was like, now you know good and well them people have been coordinating their outfits for weeks. They've been planning it for hours. I thought about that because at the Roc Nation brunch there was a lot of Gucci. Casanova. Casanova had the big. I seen Pusha T with the Gucci on this weekend. People didn't butt their outfits.
Starting point is 00:05:04 We're not trying to not have our outfits on. They're expensive. They was planning those outfits for weeks. You can't just call a boycott at the bottom of the knife and then think them Negroes was going to switch up. Nope, nope, nope. Not after you paid that much money. I don't care about stuff like Gucci.
Starting point is 00:05:17 You know why? Because you can't boycott what you don't buy anyway. Nor can you boycott what you can't afford. No. Okay? You can afford it. No, I can't. Well, I'm boycotting Rolls Royce.
Starting point is 00:05:26 I'm going to start that boycott today. I'm with y'all in spirit. I'm with y'all in spirit when it comes to this Gucci boycott. You know what I'm saying? But I'm not one of these people that need to be disrespected before I start respecting my own. Because 85% of what I wear on a daily basis is a black designer or a black company. There you go.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Merch. You can look at me right now. Okay? There you go. It's just You can look at me right now. Okay? There you go. It's just this Sir Fresh t-shirt, black on. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:49 I got on Art Meets Chaos jeans, black on. Okay. I got a Goose Country coat, black on. Okay. So, you know, that's just me on a daily basis.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Okay. I'm glad that y'all decided to join the party. Well, Dapper Dan is actually, we're going to talk about that because Dapper Dan has responded and he is one of the Gucci designers
Starting point is 00:06:03 and he's a black man. So we'll hear what he has to say. What if y'all find out Dapper Dan made that turt is one of the Gucci designers and he's a black man. So go hear what he has to say. What if y'all find out Dapper Dan made that turtleneck? What if y'all find out Dapper Dan was behind the sand bullets? Oh, stop it. Alright. Well, Kamala Harris will be joining us this morning. Kamala! I said Kamala. Kamala. Kamala Harris.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Kamala Harris will be joining us this morning. Y'all be saying her name like five different ways every episode. I know, I know. And by the way, she's been here before. She has. But you know, she wasn't here as 2020 presidential candidate. She was here as U.S. Senator of California. You know what sucks? I missed that one
Starting point is 00:06:31 and I missed this one because I was in L.A. because I had the Grammy pre-dinner that I had to go to. Oh, you just don't care about black women? I just wasn't here.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Y'all got to schedule things for when I'm here. Oh, my goodness. Well, Kamala's a little more important. Kamala! If you could say her name right, Envy, why don't you show some respect? Senator Kamala Harris.
Starting point is 00:06:50 That's the only time she had free, yee. Goodness gracious. You know, she's trying to become president in 2020. I think a lot more people are going to pay attention to this interview than they did the first time she came here. I think so, too. Yes. All right. Well, we got front page news.
Starting point is 00:07:02 What are we talking about? We are going to talk about that boycott on Gucci, Prada, and Montclair. See if you guys are planning to participate. And also, we'll discuss another presidential bid for 2020.
Starting point is 00:07:11 All right. We'll get into that next. Keep it locked. It's the President. It's the Breakfast Club. It's the President. It's the President. It's the Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Good morning. Kamala Harris. Senator Kamala Harris will be joining us next hour. Senator Harris. I can't pronounce it. How he going to correct me like I'm wrong?
Starting point is 00:07:24 You saying it wrong. No, you saying it wrong. I can't pronounce me like I'm wrong. You're saying it wrong. No, you're saying it wrong. I can't pronounce anything. We know. Well, let's get. He's like, that's what I said. Well, let's get some front page news. What are we talking about?
Starting point is 00:07:34 Let's talk about other people who have thrown their hat in the ring for the 2020 presidential bid. Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren formally announced her presidential bid. She I thought she already had announced it, but I guess this is the official formal announcement. Another person is Senator Amy Klobuchar. Am I saying that right? Klobuchar? You asking us?
Starting point is 00:07:53 Yeah, I'm asking you guys. You're saying people that can pronounce Kamala? Kamala. Oh, my goodness. Stop it. Oh, my God. Anyway, she's from Minnesota, and she said, now when I said elected leaders should go not just where it's comfortable,
Starting point is 00:08:04 but also where it's uncomfortable, this is what I mean. And she was there as there was snow and 14 degree weather. I need all you presidential candidates, regardless of who you are, regardless of what your race is, you better have a black agenda. Okay? You better have an agenda for black people. If not, we ain't interested. All right. Also, we are on the brink of another shutdown. This could potentially happen this week on the 15th.
Starting point is 00:08:26 That's when the temporary stop to the shutdown is going to be over, the halt to the shutdown. So I don't know what's going to happen on Friday, but they still haven't actually come to an agreement. Democratic and Republican negotiators seem to be on course for a deal, but the talk stopped over the weekend. There's a dispute over the limits demanded by Democrats on a number of places available and detention centers used by immigration and customs enforcement operations away from border areas. So we don't know what's going to happen. There could potentially be another shutdown. So just pay attention. There's some guy out there wishing Trump would shut it down before Valentine's Day.
Starting point is 00:09:00 That's a great excuse not to buy a gift. What does that have to do with anything? You can just lie and be like, I can't afford it. You know what I'm saying? I ain't get my check this week. You know what I'm saying? I'm sorry, baby. That's a great excuse not to buy a gift. What does that have to do with anything? You can just lie and be like, I can't afford it. I ain't get my check this week. I'm sorry, baby. That damn Trump. Well, you can still plan something, even if you don't have any money. You still could be thoughtful, right? Now, let's discuss, since we're talking about
Starting point is 00:09:16 spending money, TI is trying to do a call to action, and that's for Gucci, Prada, and Montclair. Now, for the Gucci call to action, stop buying Gucci for the next three months. If you own anything Gucci, do not wear it. That means clothing, handbags, belts, shoes, Prada, and Montclair. Now, for the Gucci call to action, stop buying Gucci for the next three months. If you own anything Gucci, do not wear it. That means clothing, handbags, belts, shoes, cologne, perfume, everything, and share with your network. That's the agenda.
Starting point is 00:09:33 He said, as a seven-figure, seven-year customer and longtime supporter of your brand, I must say y'all got us effed up. Apology not accepted. We ain't going for this oops, my bad. I didn't mean to be racist and disrespectful towards the people-ish. Y'all knew what y'all was doing, and we ain't going for this oops my bad I didn't mean to be racist and disrespectful towards the people ish y'all knew what y'all was doing and we ain't going for it we all gotta stop buying wearing and supporting this piece of ish company and all piece of ish companies
Starting point is 00:09:52 until they learn to respect our dollars and value our business our culture runs this ish I love the spirit of this protest but it seems like a very first world problem cause you can't boycott what you can't afford and majority of people out there cannot afford Gucci. But a lot of people do.
Starting point is 00:10:06 They buy Gucci belts. They buy Gucci shoes. They buy smaller things from Gucci. Absolutely. I didn't necessarily see when they showed me the sweatshirt on Friday.
Starting point is 00:10:14 But now, after seeing the pictures, I get it. And I see everything else that everybody does. that turtleneck has been on that site for like six months.
Starting point is 00:10:20 I didn't see it. And so, that's why I was seeing it all the time. All I thought to myself was, that turtleneck is a terrible idea because if you have on makeup, it's going to mess up everything. six months. I didn't see it. And so that's why I was seeing it all the time. All I thought to myself was that's what, that turtleneck is a terrible idea because if you have on makeup
Starting point is 00:10:28 it's going to mess up everything. I told y'all Friday that was Sam Bullips. Yeah, right. Y'all the ones that up here talking about, I don't see nothing wrong with this. I didn't see it.
Starting point is 00:10:35 I mean, nobody saw anything wrong with it for the past six months so it's just now being, because I know a lot of people. You know why nobody said nothing wrong with it? Because nobody can afford to go to Gucci's website.
Starting point is 00:10:43 Who goes to Gucci's website? I don't. I look on the website. Who goes to Gucci's website? I don't. I look on the website. Well, you got money. But that don't mean you're buying it. I would never have bought that. But once you put it next to it,
Starting point is 00:10:51 but I'm just saying people weren't outraged six months ago. I've never been on Gucci's website in my life. I never seen it six months ago. When I seen it, I didn't get it.
Starting point is 00:10:57 But now seeing that and the Montclair and the Prada, I absolutely positively understand and get it. I think when you do the side-by-side, that's when you really see it.
Starting point is 00:11:04 I mean, it's definitely blackface season in a lot of these fashion houses. But you know, once again, I absolutely positively understand. I think when you do this side by side, that's when you really see. I mean, it's definitely blackface season in a lot of these fashion houses. But, you know, once again, I don't go chasing Gucci and Prada. I stick to the Mosey Mode t-shirts from Target and the Serve Fresh that I'm used to. All right. Well, Dapper Dan says that the CEO of Gucci
Starting point is 00:11:18 is supposed to be coming to Harlem to have that conversation. And you know, Dapper Dan is a designer and a black man from Harlem who is a Gucci designer. Absolutely. They have a collaboration. I just don't understand
Starting point is 00:11:28 why y'all need somebody to disrespect y'all before y'all realize y'all gotta start respecting y'allself. What do you mean? As far as supporting black brands.
Starting point is 00:11:35 You can support black brands. You can support both. You can buy both. 85% of what I wear is black designers and black companies. Right now. All the time.
Starting point is 00:11:43 Okay. Okay? Yeah, I mean that's's great, and I support a lot of Dapper Dan stuff that he put out. I support a lot of Virgil stuff that he puts up with Louis Vuitton. I support a lot of everything. Why would y'all think that a European fashion house that's been around hundreds of years gives a damn about
Starting point is 00:11:55 black people? I mean... Come on, man. Let's use some common sense here. Alright, well, that is your front page news. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, hit us up right now. Maybe you had a horrible weekend,
Starting point is 00:12:10 a bad weekend, or maybe you feel great and you want to spread some positivity. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Is your country falling apart?
Starting point is 00:12:19 Feeling tired? Depressed? A little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There are 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. Why can't I trade my own country? My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong?
Starting point is 00:12:50 No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warheads. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets. We need help! We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast.
Starting point is 00:13:10 That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey guys, I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together. You know that rush of endorphins you feel after a great workout? Well, that's when
Starting point is 00:13:50 the real magic happens. So if you love hearing real, inspiring stories from the people you know, follow, and admire, join me every week for Post Run High. It's where we take the conversation beyond the run and get into the heart of it all. It's lighthearted, pretty crazy, and very fun. Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself and leaning into her dreams.
Starting point is 00:14:34 I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, It was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace.
Starting point is 00:15:03 Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Breakfast Club. Wake up, wake up.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Wake your ass up. This is your time to get it off your chest. Whether you're mad or blessed, we want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club. Hello, who's this? What's up, man? This is Knowledge, man. How y'all doing? Knowledge, what's happening, brother? Man, hey, man, get it off my chest. Kevin Hart's speech.
Starting point is 00:15:41 I think he won up me, man. I think it was very motivating. However, I think that we need our leaders to really travel in the heart of what black people are. Like in the Delta, like Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama. Killer Mike said it himself. That's where the core of black people are that's unlearned. Like they need not just money or resources, but they need like women empowerment. They need to see and touch our leaders, like the Breakfast Club. You think we leaders?
Starting point is 00:16:10 Yeah, like, other cultures. Y'all the leaders. Like, y'all the resources. That energy that we need in the Delta, bro. Like, we need that down in Arkansas. We need to see, like, the women need to see all this Angela Yee right there. I'm out and about all the time. Not in the Delta.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Arkansas. Mississippi. I'm talking about down there. All right. We'll come out there. Do you know where I'm from, bro? I know where you're from, Charlie, man. You different.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Oh, okay. Okay. South Carolina all day. All right. No, we got clusters. You know, we talk about Black Philly and New York and Atlanta. But, man, I'm telling you, when you get down into these small towns where we need y'all influence, you'll see, like, damn,
Starting point is 00:16:48 we're, like, some years behind. No, we're not. But keep achieving, though, man. Y'all keep achieving. Thank you, sir. What was it? He had a problem with? I don't think he had a problem.
Starting point is 00:16:57 He just wants us to come out there. Oh, no, he's saying with Kevin Mahart's, I don't know. What speech was he talking about? I think at the Roc Nation brunch. I thought it was positive. Was the Roc Nation brunch on TV or something? No, it was on the gram. People put clips online.
Starting point is 00:17:08 Oh. Hello. Hey, Nikki. Hi. Get it off your chest, Nikki. Okay, well, I wanted to spread some positivity. So basically, I quit my government job on Friday to basically follow my dreams and travel the world. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Okay, that's dope. That's dope. You got some money saved up or something? I'm sure she does. Yes, I do. Are you going by yourself? Of course, yes. It's pretty much a mother-daughter business.
Starting point is 00:17:33 So basically I'll travel the world getting all natural ingredients like herbs and spices for the hair and skin, and then I bring it back to the U.S. I take it to my manufacturer for testing, and then we put out a hair care line and a skin care line and I blog as well when I go to these countries.
Starting point is 00:17:51 Well, what's the name of the blog? Yeah, let's take a look at it. I want to see your travel blog. Okay, so I'm working on that. It's still not up and running yet, but it will be. So I will be calling back in a couple of months. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:03 But yeah, so I just wanted to just spread that positive. Well, good luck. Thank you. Thank you. What's going on? Get it off your chest, Sheet. I want to talk about this porn law that they want to enact over here in Hawaii.
Starting point is 00:18:18 I think it's whack. I think it's whack too. Yeah, it's like an Asian country thing where you can't even access porn sites. I'm like, and then they're talking about sending the money to sex trafficking. There's no sex trafficking problem over in Hawaii. That's terrible. I think it's straight porn.
Starting point is 00:18:37 Well, you know it's only $20 a one-time fee to be able to access everything. Yeah, I got that. But then they got your name on the registry of people who watch porn and things like that. Use somebody else's credit card. What's your favorite kind of porn? Man, I ain't talking about that, bro. Alright, well, I think you said
Starting point is 00:18:55 if you can't tell us, then you need to be on the registry, dude. Maybe you should use someone else's credit card. You gotta monitor your ass. Go get a gift card, man. It's cool, but yeah, I listen to y'all when I can on the podcast. So I keep doing what y'all doing. All right, but you can't watch porn, so you just got to listen to us. You got to pay for it.
Starting point is 00:19:13 All right, y'all take it easy. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, hit us up now. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired? Depressed? The Breakfast Club. Good am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Laudonia.
Starting point is 00:19:46 I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. The Waikana tried my country. My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder,
Starting point is 00:20:02 you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets. We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan.

We can't pronounce nothing that starts with K this morning. We're still trying to figure out Kamala. Kamala. It is Kamala. figure out Kamala. Kamala. It is Kamala.
Starting point is 00:22:47 Yes, Kamala Harris. Kamala. All right, get it off your chest, mama. Oh, okay. I was just calling just to say I agree with Charlamagne as far as the Gucci protests against, you know, all the brands and all of that. I just think that that's just something we should have been doing.
Starting point is 00:23:01 Why does it take, I don't know, a picture or a hashtag or whatever for everybody to get mad? We should have been supporting? Why does it take, I don't know, a picture or a hashtag or whatever for everybody to get mad? We should have been supporting black companies. Okay. I mean, I think everybody, we all support black companies up here.
Starting point is 00:23:12 Do you support black companies also? Yes, I do. Okay. We definitely do. You can own Gucci and still own other brands. Yeah, but we definitely don't
Starting point is 00:23:20 like we do those brands. I mean, we put them in our songs. We get on Instagram and say, dripping. Right. Ain't nobody ever say say, Jerping. Right. Ain't nobody ever say jerping with no fubu.
Starting point is 00:23:27 I just think because it's big, it costs a lot. It's expensive. That's why everybody loves me so much. I just feel like, it's just fake to me. It just always seems like it's just an uproar all of a sudden. Why does it take that to get you to attention to other black brands? Even look at what Soulja Boy was saying. He had his own console, and people were trying to down him for that,
Starting point is 00:23:48 but they'll buy all these other brands. But his is a black-owned company. Nobody's buying it. Well, they are. And I think people support black brands. I mean, even for myself. Because even think about all of us are footwear. I mean, we do.
Starting point is 00:23:58 I mean, from African American College Alliance to a lot of the stuff that we wear are absolutely positively black brands. But I mix it up sometimes, and I think a lot of people do. But what they did, what Montclair did, what Prada did, that's foul. I mean, like Angela, like you said, it's been on the website for six months. I just feel like all of a sudden somebody paid
Starting point is 00:24:13 attention to it and now everybody just has to stop doing it. You know why? You know why? Thank you, Mama. You know why? Tax return time. People start getting tax returns back. They start going to Gucci.com and all that other stuff. Now you want to notice the turtleneck with the coolest monkey in the jungle. Is that it? Or that's something else?
Starting point is 00:24:28 That was something else. That was something else. Yeah, the Sambo lips, whatever it was. B. Hey, Envy, morning. Morning. Morning. Morning, my brother.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Hey, I got like three questions real quick. I'm not going to wait for a response, but I'm going to go. Charlamagne. Yes, sir. You were just talking about black support, protesting, boycotting. That's all well and good, but you just did an NFL commercial for iHeart, I believe, for the Super Bowl. Knock on knock, you had to get your bag. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:24:55 I never claimed to be boycotting the NFL, though. No, you did say you was boycotting. You said you wasn't watching football. And then I said I started back watching. And the reason I started back watching. But then you went and got a bag. That's something totally different. But that's an argument you can have on air.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Second question. Whose argument? Are y'all going to play 6ix9ine music when he get out of jail? 6ix9ine's not getting out of jail no time soon, sir. By the time 6ix9ine get out of jail, we'll all be retired. Okay. Last question. Do we really not to take anything from Cardi?
Starting point is 00:25:21 Congratulations to her winning. But is this more of a pandering to black people? Giving her that Grammy? What do you mean? Alright, now everything with the Grammys, the whole Kevin Hart thing, they was trying to get a black hole. No, that was the Oscars, sir. That was the Oscars. Stand down, sir. Oh, okay. Still, it's all
Starting point is 00:25:38 the same. It's all ran by the same company. You do know that the category Cardi was in was damn near, well, it was all black people. No, I think Post Malone was in there. Oh, Mac Miller was in there. Oh, wait, no, maybe not Post Malone. It's Best Rap Album. Oh, so they didn't put Macklemore in there before?
Starting point is 00:25:52 Like, come on now. Oh, no, you're right. It was Mac Miller, Nipsey Hussle, Pusha T, Travis Scott, and Cardi B. Yes, I thought Cardi B deserved it. She had a great album. No, I'm not saying that she didn't. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying, do we think that this is just something to pander to black people?
Starting point is 00:26:08 Why? No, I think that if it's the best rap album. For best rap album? The majority of people in the category are black. Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about. Y'all act like all black people won the rap artist category all the time at the Grammys. So, I'm confused. This year, there was one white person in the category.
Starting point is 00:26:23 That was Mac Miller. And we know Mac Miller, God bless the dead, his album was not going to beat Cardi B's Invasion of Prophecy. Yes. Even for best rap performance, that was for... Again, guys, I'm not questioning her ability or her talent. I'm just trying to figure out if this was just some pandering. No.
Starting point is 00:26:40 I don't understand. Hey, can you take a knee on this topic? Would you have thought it was pandering if Travis Scott won? No, you take me on that commercial you did. All right, well, thank you very much. You have topic? Would you have thought it was pandering if Travis got one? All right. Well, thank you very much. You have a great day. Have a great morning, guys. Why can't I do an NFL commercial?
Starting point is 00:26:50 I can't do both? No. Yolanda, good morning. Hi, good morning, DJ Envy. How are you? I'm doing good. Get it off your chest, mama. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:58 I'm actually blessed because the first thing I'm blessed. Is Shalami there today? Yes, baby. Why do y'all always say my name? Because you be late. You be late. I don't be here or something. You know, good morning Sean and me there today? Yes, baby. Why do y'all always say my name thing? You be late. I don't be here or something. You know, good morning, Sean and me.
Starting point is 00:27:09 Good morning, Angelique. Good morning. Okay, first, Sean, I want to say your book is amazing. Which one? Every morning I wake up, Dumb Shook won. So what I did, I read this every morning. Fear is holding you back. It's time to turn the tables and channel your fear to actually see your success. So I say that
Starting point is 00:27:25 to me every morning to make sure I steer fear by its faith and I keep going. So thank you so much for that book because of my three kids. Yeah, it's actually amazing. So the parental paranoia chapter probably registered with you a lot. Yes, and then my thing what really got me is when you said
Starting point is 00:27:41 fear. Your ultimate fear is to feel a failure. And I felt the same way because I fear being a horrible wife. I fear being a horrible parent. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:27:50 oh my gosh, I don't even understand. Wow, thank you for appreciating it. Thank you. Oh, no problem. My sister took my book and she kept passing it around
Starting point is 00:27:57 so now I lost my book. One of them little heifers lost my book. You want me to mail you another copy? I'm pissed off because of that because I have like,
Starting point is 00:28:04 I have twice as many. Listen, listen, you say you're going to mail me another copy? You need another copy? You want me to mail you another copy? I'm pissed off because of that. Listen, listen. You say you're going to mail me another copy? You need another copy? You want me to mail you a copy? Oh, can I get a copy with the signature, please? Yes. Give your information.
Starting point is 00:28:14 We're going to put you on hold. You give your information to Taylor or Sim, and I'll get it out to you today. Oh, great. Also, I want to say that I'm also blessed because I started a business. If you guys can follow me, it's Daily Delight. I want to give you, I want to actually let you guys get some because I made the best seafood platters ever. I know that's a fact. I guarantee it. So if you guys want it, whenever you come down
Starting point is 00:28:33 to Miami, please try us out. You will love it. I promise you. Okay, Mama. Thank you. Well, congratulations. Daily Delight. Okay. Hold on. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, you can hit us up right now. Naeem, you got rumors on the way?
Starting point is 00:28:50 I mean, I guess we'll talk about the Grammy Award winners and the Grammys from last night. We'll hear what you have to say. There were some surprises. I want to hear what performances you liked. You want to hear what you thought about Drake's speech. Michelle Obama coming out. All of that. Alicia Keys as a host.
Starting point is 00:29:02 And we'll discuss, of course, the winners. All right, we'll get into that when we come back. Keep it locked. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. I just want to say good morning to y'all.
Starting point is 00:29:12 They said there was a lot of people that couldn't get in that brunch. It's okay, man. To all the artists and journalists who couldn't get in the brunch. It happens like that. You know what? Next year, somebody should do a party
Starting point is 00:29:20 for the people that couldn't get into the brunch. That party will be popping. Because it should be right near it and then whoever couldn't get in just come near and that party would be lit. Lit.
Starting point is 00:29:27 Popping. Nice little consolation prize. I come to this party. It ain't a brunch but they got snacks. You know what I'm saying? And then I know Doosay did the Roc Nation brunch
Starting point is 00:29:35 and they should have like Hennessy or Remy do the other one. They could. That's so foul. Because there's a lot of people that couldn't get in that's popping
Starting point is 00:29:43 they could just go to that. Y'all really take the Roc Nation brunch very, very, very seriously. Very, very serious. They do. People do. We should do the Not Nation brunch. Right there. Right next door.
Starting point is 00:29:53 Right next door. All right. Well, let's get to the rumors. Let's talk the Grammys. It's about time. What's going on? Rumor Report. Rumor Report.
Starting point is 00:30:04 This is the Rumor Report. Talk to Report. This is the Rumor Report. Talk to them. With Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club. Yes, Grammy talks. Let's talk about some of the big winners for the night. Now, Record of the Year went to Childish Gambino and Song of the Year. And that's for This Is America. Also, for Best Rap Album, that was Cardi B.
Starting point is 00:30:22 She won for that one. Best Rap Performances was King's Dead. That's Kendrick, J-Rock, Future, and James Blake. Best Rap Song Performance was Childish Gambino again. This is America. Best Rap Song was Drake with God's Plan. There were some surprises throughout the night, but also shout out to her. She won for Best R&B Performance.
Starting point is 00:30:40 Her and Daniel Caesar, which, by the way, that was one of my favorite songs of the year. Best part. Also, let's see. Best R&B song went to Ella Mai for Buddha. Everything is Love. The Cardiz won for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Best R&B album went to her. Yet again, Producer of the Year went to Pharrell.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Best Music Video, Childish Gambino. He cleaned up. Best Reggae album went to Sting and Shaggy. Shaggy and Sting. I've seen Shaggy with an award. Congratulations. Dave Chappelle won for best comedy album also and Quincy won for best music film. I'm not a
Starting point is 00:31:12 big reggae guy but who else was in that category? Do we know? Yeah, hold on. I'll tell you for best reggae album Uh... Nah, don't worry about it. I just want to make sure. Ziggy Marley. Okay. Okay, Potajay, Black Uru, and Itana. You didn't hear none of that.
Starting point is 00:31:29 I haven't heard none of it, but I would say that a Marley should have won. Okay. Just because of the Marley. Just because of the Marley. All right, now, one of the surprises early on in the evening was Michelle Obama. She hit the stage with Jada Pinkett Smith, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and, of course, host Alicia Keys. It was crazy when she came out on stage. She could barely even get her words out.
Starting point is 00:31:48 Music has always helped me tell my story. And I know that's true for everybody here. Whether we like country or rap or rock, music helps us share ourselves, our dignity and sorrows, our hopes and joys. It allows us to hear one another. Music shows us that all of it matters. Every story within every voice, every note within every song. Is that right, ladies?
Starting point is 00:32:17 Yes. I wonder what they told Michelle Obama to have her come out there and share a stage with three other people. Not that those other people aren't worthy, but it's still Michelle Obama to have her come out there and share a stage with three other people. Not that those other people aren't worthy, but it's still Michelle Obama. You saw when she spoke, she barely could talk because everybody was yelling at her. It's exciting. We miss her. I had a bunch of powerful women on there.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Yeah, but why not just her is what I'm saying. I don't know. Maybe she wanted to make a statement coming out with these other women. Showing unity. Yeah, show some unity. I think it's dope. Now, Childish Gambino made history by winning for Song of the Year for This Is America. That's the first time ever that a rap song took home that award.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Also, Drake gave a speech. Now, we told you that Drake won for Best Rap Song for God's Plan. And here's what he had to say before he got cut off. We play in an opinion-based sport, not a factual-based sport. So it's not the NBA where at the end of the year you're holding a trophy because you made the right decisions or won the games. It's up to a bunch of people that might not understand, you know, what a mixed race kid from Canada has to say. But look, the point is, you've already won. If you have people who are singing your songs word for word, if you're a hero in your hometown,
Starting point is 00:33:17 you don't need this right here. I promise you. You already won. But next, a special. Just cut him right off. He's right, though. All of these culturally clueless corporate executives that don't know anything about our culture, can't tell us what's hot or not in our culture, but they can cut your ass off
Starting point is 00:33:31 when you start saying things they don't like. Well, I'll tell you who I was excited for. Cardi B. Now, Cardi B won for Best Rap Album, and she hit the stage with her husband Offset and had this to say. I want to thank my daughter because I'm not just saying thank I want to thank my daughter because I don't
Starting point is 00:33:46 I'm not just saying thank you because she's my daughter it's because you know when I found out I was pregnant my album was not complete I had like three songs that I was for sure having we was like we have to get this album done so I could shoot these videos while I'm still not showing. You husband, thank you. Nah, seriously, because he was like, oh, you're going to do this album, girl. We're going to have this baby and we're going to make this album. And thank you so much
Starting point is 00:34:16 everybody. Now she was backstage and she actually gave her for real thank you speech for the Grammys and this was to all her followers. Alright, here's what she said. Thank you so much. Thank you God again. Thank you for always supporting me. If it's nothing without y'all, thank you to my sister.
Starting point is 00:34:32 Thank you to Partisan. Thank you to F. Thank you everybody that was with me. Thank God. Thank my family. My mom's side of the family. My dad's side of the family. Thank you everybody. And you want to know something? I read an article that Mac made Miller family said that if he don't win, they want me
Starting point is 00:34:48 to win. So I'm sharing this Grammy with you, mother******. Rest in peace. And thank you, everybody. Bronze up! Have some ****! I mean, the anxiety got the best of her when she was on the stage originally. You know what I mean? That's all. Alright, well, I'm Angela Yee, and that's
Starting point is 00:35:04 your Rumor Report. And I also want to say, we don't need the Grammys to validate anything in our culture, but it brings me great joy to see Cardi win. Absolutely. Salute to Banderella. Go, Cratch, to Cardi, man.
Starting point is 00:35:12 And salute to Offset, too. I can see the faithfulness in his eyes. I can see the act right in his eyes. Offset will not be making the same mistakes he made in the past. Nope. I can see it in him. I have faith in him.
Starting point is 00:35:21 When she was performing and they show his face in the audience and he had his tongue hanging out. Look, that look is that, that's that, I almost lost it. They might have made another baby that night. see it in him. I have faith in him. When she was performing and they show his face in the audience and he had his tongue hanging out. That's that I almost lost it. They might have made another baby that night. That's that I almost lost it and I will never, I will not
Starting point is 00:35:33 put myself in that position again. I know that look. Alright. I know it. That's your rumor report. That was me. Alright. You gonna stick your tongue out too? All I know is they've been putting that meme of Charlamagne laughing at Cardi B's jokes all over. I mean, Cardi's funny. I'm the only person that finds her funny now.
Starting point is 00:35:51 She got 40 plus million followers. We've been laughing at her for six, seven years now. With her. I'm done. All right. Front page, who's what we talking about? Let's talk about this boycott for Gucci, Prada, and Moncler. See what you think.
Starting point is 00:36:02 All right. We'll get into that next. Keep it locked. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. MV, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Keep it locked. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. MV, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Let's get into some front page news. What are we talking about, Yee? I'm just reading about your Knicks right now, MV. They're 10 and 45? Yes, they are 10 and 45. Wow. What do you mean they were? I said they are.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Oh. Yeah, I said they're 10 and 45. It says if they lose this next game, it'll be a landmark moment for them. We're thinking about next year. We're thinking about next year. Yeah, I think they're throwing the season away on purpose. But here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:36:36 This is the funny thing about the New York Knicks. Every single year, whenever there's like some great free agents available, they always do these memes with the person in the jersey. Absolutely. They all got this hope that all of these people are going to be here next year. Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Zion Williamson. Guess what you're going to end up with? What?
Starting point is 00:36:56 That's all right. It says if they lose this game, it'll be their worst losing streak. Well, I'm a New Yorker. I like my New York Knicks and I also support the Nets. Come over to the Nets. I watch the Nets as well. Come over to the Nets side. I was at the Nets game on Friday. We lost, but it was a good game. The Knicks to win a couple, maybe two
Starting point is 00:37:11 in a row, maybe. I don't know. Two in a row. All right, now let's talk about T.I. calling for this cancellation of Gucci Prada and Montclair. Here's what he had to say. Everybody, you know what I'm saying, talk about H&M then, you know what I'm saying. It's quick to run straight back in there. And that's why we ain't never got no one.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Now here we are, we got Gucci. We buy more of their s*** than Italians do. Now, they want our business somewhere, they want to get Dapper Dan to become a designer consultant. So, we don't have to force them to like us. But what we do have to do is stop spending our motherf***ing money with people who gonna continue to give you their ass to kiss. The only reason Gucci had it is because we made that shit happen. All right.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Now, Dapper Dan said, I am a black man before I am a brand. Another fashion house has gotten it outrageously wrong. There's no excuse nor apology that can erase this kind of insult. The CEO of Gucci has agreed to come from Italy to Harlem this week to meet with me along with members of the community and other industry leaders. There cannot be inclusivity without accountability. I will hold everyone accountable. And T.I. is calling for this call to action to stop buying Gucci for the next three months. If you own anything Gucci, do not wear it and share with your network.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Spike Lee is saying that he wants to demand that people actually these fashion houses hire more people of color and black people. I love the spirit of this boycott, but this is a first world problem. You know, you can't boycott what you can't afford nor can you boycott what you have never bought. And it's a terrible weekend to announce that boycott because those Negroes have been playing in those Gucci outfits for the Grammys for weeks. Okay?
Starting point is 00:38:39 You can't change a player's game. And then All Stars coming up. Yeah, what? Some artist is like look man, I got you in March, Tip. I already spent all this money already. Too much going on in February. I got you in March, though. But on another note, we shouldn't have to get disrespected in order to start respecting our own. Okay, 85% of what I wear on a daily basis is from a black-owned company, but I'm not a fashion guy.
Starting point is 00:38:58 I just like supporting my own. Right. So, of course, it's always important to show support, whether that means patronizing black restaurants, hiring black people to work for you and with you. Whatever it is that you can do to push the culture forward is important. And has anybody stopped to think what Gucci Mane feels about all of this? Yeah, I saw a lot of people posting that. Is he supposed to change his name? Yeah, what is Gucci supposed to do?
Starting point is 00:39:22 He's got to calm down for three months and he'll be back. We've kept no Gucci Mane for three months? How good? He's going to have to change three months and he'll be back. We've known Gucci man for three months? He's going to have to change his name to Fendi. There's already a Fendi. Well, Fendi hasn't done anything, has he? Oh, no. Let's dig into it. Fendi, I think you're good. I'm talking about my man Fendi, though. Big Fendi.
Starting point is 00:39:38 Fendi good because Fendi good. Right? Okay. Alright, now there might be a shutdown on the way again on Friday. So if the Democrats and the Republicans can't negotiate and come to some type of agreement for a deal to fund the government and boost border security, then it's possible that there might be a shutdown yet again. So keep your eye on that. Donald Trump tweeted out, I don't think the Dems on the border committee are being allowed by their leaders to make a deal. They are offering very little money for the desperately needed border wall.
Starting point is 00:40:04 And now out of the blue, won a cap on convicted violent felons to be held in detention. It was a very bad week for the Democrats with the great economic numbers, the Virginia disaster, and the State of the Union address. Now, with the terrible offers being made by them to the Board of Committee, I actually believe they want a shutdown. They want a new subject. So he's trying to say because of the Democrats, there might be a shutdown. It has nothing to do with the Republicans not wanting to back down on this border wall. Anyway,
Starting point is 00:40:30 and more people are announcing their bid for 2020. Elizabeth Warren has officially thrown her hat in the ring, and so has Senator Amy Klobuchar. Is that how you say her name? Sounds right. Klobuchar. Okay, she's announced her 2020 presidential bid as well. So let's do our research.
Starting point is 00:40:45 I'm not interested in any candidate who doesn't have a specific agenda for black people. And with that being said, we do have a guest joining us this morning, right? Yes, this is her second time on The Breakfast Club. Correct. Something tells me that y'all will be paying more attention to her now. That's right. Last time she came, she was just the U.S. Senator of California. Now she's the U.S. Senator of California and 2020
Starting point is 00:41:05 presidential candidate. That's right. Kamala Harris will be joining us when we come back. I'm so mad I was in L.A. for this one. You missed it twice. You missed it both times she came up here. Why are you dodging Senator Harris? Stop. You know I had that trip booked for a while. I wish I would have been here though. It's your second time. I'm just asking.
Starting point is 00:41:21 I'm sure she'll be up here again. Starting to look a little suspicious. Alright. We'll talk to Kamala Harris when we come back. Don't move. It's your second time. I'm just asking. I'm sure she'll be up here again. Starting to look a little suspicious. All right. We'll talk to Kamala Harris when we come back. Don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired?
Starting point is 00:41:32 Depressed? A little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy.
Starting point is 00:41:42 There are 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen It's surprisingly easy. There's 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Kaperburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. Why can't I trade my own country?
Starting point is 00:41:58 My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets.

Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself, and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, it was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love.
Starting point is 00:44:11 I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Starting point is 00:44:27 or wherever you get your podcasts. The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We got a special guest in the building. Yes. Miss Kamala Harris.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Kamala Harris. Senator Kamala Harris. How are you? I am very well. Good morning. Good morning. Welcome back. Now you're a 2020 presidential candidate. I am. Why? Why did you do that to yourself? I'm happy you did, though. But why? You know, here's the thing. For many reasons, including this, over the course of the
Starting point is 00:44:58 last two years, I have seen, we have all seen so much that is wrong. We have seen American values under attack. We have seen the American dream is wrong. We have seen American values under attack. We have seen the American dream under attack. We have seen babies being taken from their parents at the border in the name of border security when in fact
Starting point is 00:45:13 it's a human rights abuse. We have seen an economy that is not working for working people. They passed this tax bill that is benefiting big corporations in the top 1%. And meanwhile middle class America is trying to get through each month and pay the bills.
Starting point is 00:45:30 They are denying climate change. I mean, it's extraordinary what's happening. All to benefit big corporations in the top 1%. And that is not reflective of what we need, much less who we are. And that's why I decided to run. You were immediately attacked, it seems like.
Starting point is 00:45:45 Like, immediately, soon as you announced it. As soon as he announced it. I mean, I was so excited. Yeah. I posted the, you know, when she came up here and we were talking to Howard and Hampton and I was like, this is the only Howard University alum that I'm going to support. He just wants to remind you that Hampton is the real H.U. That's all he's about. It's not, you know, you know.
Starting point is 00:46:02 It's not about that. You know. You know. But you were attacked so fast for being a prosecutor and people were upset about it. You know, what do you say to some of those critics? I'm not going to ever apologize for saying that when a child is molested or a woman is raped or one human being kills another human being, that there should be serious consequence. I'm never going to apologize for that. I also believe strongly that the criminal justice system in America is deeply flawed and it must be reformed. And I'm going to tell you also, when we know a system needs to be reformed, when we know it's broken, there is certainly a role on the outside, but we also
Starting point is 00:46:40 should not take ourselves out of the opportunity to be on the inside and have an impact there and be an ally to what we need to do around reform from the inside. And I'm going to give you a couple of examples. As a prosecutor, when I first started, it was during the height of what was happening with the Crips and the Bloods and mostly in L.A. And so California was passing all these gang enhancements. And I'll never forget sitting in my office where there were a bunch of folks that I worked with standing outside talking about how they were going to prove a gang
Starting point is 00:47:11 enhancement which would cause somebody to go to prison for a longer time. And they started talking about the way the person was dressed. And the corner they were hanging out on. And the music they were listening to. So I walked out of my office and I said, hey, my cousins and my family, members of my family dress that way.
Starting point is 00:47:28 I have family and friends who live in that neighborhood. And I've got, now I'm going to date myself, and I've got a tape of that music in my car right now. You said cassette tape? Oh, yes. Right? But these are the days that when I created a reentry initiative, when I was the elected district attorney of San Francisco, focused on young men, getting them jobs and counseling,
Starting point is 00:47:52 people would say to me, what are you doing? DAs would not know what reentry meant. They would literally ask me, what does the word mean to people? Democrats and Republicans would say to me, what are you doing? Your job is to put people in jail, not let them out of jail. And I'll give you another example of what it means to be inside the room. When I was DA, I cannot tell you the number of mothers, and in particular black mothers, who would come to the front window of my office and they would say to the receptionist, I want to talk to Kamala and I don't want to talk to anybody else but Kamala.
Starting point is 00:48:23 And I would go to the window and I'd bring them back to my office and they would cry. And they would say, nobody is taking this case seriously. My son is dead and they're not investigating it. They're not taking my complaint seriously. And no one is acknowledging my pain. So those are the experiences I had. Now, listen, did I get enough done? No.
Starting point is 00:48:43 Did I want to do more? Absolutely. But, you know, there are people who, in this campaign for president, are definitely going to try and hit us from the right and the left. Because they sense that we and our campaign may have strength. Does it bother
Starting point is 00:48:58 you that it seems like so many people that are against, you know, it's not so many people, but the people that I've seen are against look like you and look like me and look like Charlemagne, our own. I get what you're saying, but I think black people just have questions for people who may not know who exactly you are. So it's just basic questions.
Starting point is 00:49:14 So they say they want to know, what did you do to hurt black people as a prosecutor? Because you said you regret some things. Well, what I regret is not having done enough. If I had been there longer, if I had had more in terms of bandwidth, I would have done more around creating initiatives, for example, in the juvenile justice system. That was something that was always on my agenda to focus on. I didn't get to that.
Starting point is 00:49:38 But I will say this, that I know also that the reentry initiatives that I created were a model back when I did it. Folks weren't doing it. There were very few. And you can talk to a lot of elected black prosecutors today in cities around the country who will say that what I did gave them the inspiration or provided a model for what could be done by a prosecutor, having the power to make the decision instead of asking somebody for permission. And I'll also say this. Look at my record in terms of being in the United States Senate.
Starting point is 00:50:10 It has been a record of I am proposing that we reform America's bail system, the money bail system, and get rid of money bail because I know that people are sitting in jail every day in America because they can't afford to pay the $20,000 to get out while they're awaiting trial. Meanwhile, the same person who committed the same kind of crime gets out if they've got the money. That's a criminal justice issue. That's an economic justice issue. Let me tell you what I will do when I am elected president of the United States. I will put in place an attorney general who instead of what's happening now, which is that they are shutting down pattern and practice investigations, investigations into police departments around this country that have a proven record of discrimination and racism. They're shutting those down. Those need to be reinvigorated.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Consent decrees, which is looking at how we need to monitor what is happening around proven racism and discrimination in the criminal justice system. For whatever reason, they think a black person should never lock up other black and brown people. Yeah, but here's how I feel about that, Charlamagne. Are you saying that if a child is molested, if a woman is raped, if somebody is shot down and killed...
Starting point is 00:51:15 They should go to jail. That's right. And let's not buy into the myth that black folks don't want law enforcement. We do. We don't want excessive force. We don't want racial profiling. But certainly if somebody robs, burglarizes my house, I'm going to call
Starting point is 00:51:31 the police. They don't even got to go that far. If I see them sitting in the cul-de-sac too long, I'm caught. Number one, what's your verdict? But all of that being said, there is no question that this system is deeply flawed, that there is systemic racism in the system. We have a problem with mass incarceration
Starting point is 00:51:47 in particular black and brown men. There is no question that no mother or father in America should have to sit down when their son turns 12 and start having the talk with that child about how he may be stopped, arrested, or killed because
Starting point is 00:52:03 of the color of his skin. There is no question. You're right. I hear everything you're saying, and I understand what you're saying, but some people, it'll go over their head. So I want to address some of these memes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:52:12 Because this is how I see the false information getting out. There's a meme that says, Kamala Harris broke the state record for incarcerating black males. Well, that's just not true. The bottom line, Charlamagne, is that my role in the work that I have done has always been about representing the people. And as a prosecutor, it was about what we need to do to correct the system.
Starting point is 00:52:33 And I stand by that record. Another meme says Kamala Harris is not African-American. Her parents were immigrants from India and Jamaica, and she was raised in Canada, not the United States. And it said fat. That's what the meme said. So I was raised in Canada, not the United States. And they said, fat! That's what the man said. So I was born in Oakland. Yeah. And raised in the United States except for the years that I was in high school in Montreal, Canada.
Starting point is 00:52:58 And look, this is the same thing they did to Barack. Yes. This is not new to us. And so I think that we know what they're trying to Barack. This is not new to us. And so I think that we know what they're trying to do. They're trying to do what has been happening over the last two years, which is powerful voices
Starting point is 00:53:13 trying to sow hate and division among us. And so we need to recognize when we're being played. I'm glad you mentioned Barack because a lot of black people question if Barack was black enough. I see them doing the same thing to you. So what do you say to people questioning the legitimacy of your blackness? I think they don't understand who black people are. So I'm not going to spend my time trying to educate people about who black people are. Because right now, frankly, I'm focused on,
Starting point is 00:53:39 for example, an initiative that I have. It's called the Lift Act that is about lifting folks out of poverty. In the United States today, almost the majority of American families who are making under $100,000 a year as a family are a $400 unexpected emergency away from what could be disaster. Wow. Which is why I'm proposing that there be a $6,000 tax credit that they can collect at $500 a month. Recognizing $500 a month makes all the difference between being able to get through that month without worrying, much less catastrophe. I'm focused on the fact that in the United States today, in 99% of the counties in America, if you are a minimum wage worker working full time, you cannot afford market rate for a one bedroom apartment. Those are the things I'm focused on. All right. We have more with Kamala Harris when we come back. She's
Starting point is 00:54:30 running for president in 2020. So don't move. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are the Breakfast Club. We have Senator Kamala Harris in the building. She's running for president for 2020. You know, I do a lot with real estate and I notice a lot of black people can't afford, they can't get a loan. It's very difficult. They, you know, it's almost impossible to get a small business loan. How can we help black people and minorities get more loans and get housing and not have to rent apartments for 40 years and actually own something. That's right. Well, so for example, on the rent piece, my proposal is about reforming the tax code of this country. And by doing that, we know that we will lift 60% of black households out of poverty with this initiative. When you look at the issue of rent, what I am proposing is that we also recognize that if people are paying over
Starting point is 00:55:25 30% of their income in rent plus utilities, they should get a tax credit. Because to your very point, folks are struggling to pay the rent or pay the mortgage. So specifically then, when I am elected president, part of it will be what we need to do around the housing and urban development, HUD. I love how you spoke that into fruition too. Absolutely. When I'm elected president. I intend on winning. Absolutely. I just want to be really clear about that. But on HUD, so part of what
Starting point is 00:55:56 we have gotten away from is understanding that folks, again, need a lift up, right? And it's not a handout. It's just giving folks a hand. And so that's about what we do, not only about credits in terms of, you know, Section 8 housing and all that,
Starting point is 00:56:11 but what we do to create incentives for homeownership. And that's something that's very much a part of my agenda. With Barack Obama, when he was in office, a lot of African-American people felt like he didn't do anything for black people. They felt like he did everything for, you know, the LGBT community. He did things for, you know, the LGBT community. He did things for, you know, Spanish community, Latinos,
Starting point is 00:56:29 but nothing for African-Americans. Yeah, so do you have an agenda for black voters? Of course I do, but I also want to stand up for Barack Obama on that because, you know, first of all, none of us can do enough, and we all know that. As leaders, we can never do enough. It's important to acknowledge that. But let's also give people credit for what they've accomplished. I was just meeting with the presidents and chancellors of HBCUs. And we were talking about how under the
Starting point is 00:56:55 Obama administration, for example, they extended Pell Grants, which our kids really rely on to get them through school. And extended it so it wouldn't just be for the school year but through the summer. We can talk about what under President Obama happened in the Holder Justice Department around getting rid of the mandatory minimums and in particular the crack and powder cocaine disparities and also those investigations, pattern and practice investigations so much. So, and a continuation of that would be part of my agenda. The black agenda has to include HBCUs and looking at the historical fact
Starting point is 00:57:30 that when the federal government gives attention to HBCUs, we end up having a profound impact on black people in America. I think the numbers are something like almost 60% of black professionals in America have come from HBCUs, either an undergrad or graduate school. So that is part of it.
Starting point is 00:57:49 Part of it is what I was describing about focusing on families that are making less than $100,000 a year. Part of it is focusing on what we need to do around reform of the criminal justice system, understanding that the mass incarceration policies of this country have led to black and brown men in particular being incarcerated at ridiculous rates, proportionate to their representation and proportionate to the fact that when you look at similar to situated other people, they're not getting arrested and prosecuted and sentenced to the same kind of numbers. There's what we need to do around also dealing with public health matters. One of my initiatives in a bill I have is around maternal mortality.
Starting point is 00:58:27 Black women are dying at three to four times a higher rate in connection with childbirth in America. This is not an issue of the educational level of these women. It's not an issue of their socioeconomic situation. Right? Look at Serena. It is literally about racial bias
Starting point is 00:58:44 in the healthcare delivery delivery system and so i have an initiative that is and it's a bill that says that one we need to train medical schools and doctors on how to take black women seriously when they walk through that hospital door and talk about um their their their illness and and take them seriously and not reject their complaints or think of them as hysterical. Where do you stand on some form of reparations for black people? Because you see Mayor de Blasio saying the marijuana economy could be a form of reparations. Marianne Williamson says black people should get $100 billion in slavery reparations. Where do you stand on it?
Starting point is 00:59:19 Well, look, I think that we have got to address that, again, it's back to the inequities. America has a history of 200 years of slavery. We had Jim Crow. We had legal segregation in America for a very long time. The Voting Rights Act was only strong for 50 years. And then they wiped it out with this United States Supreme Court and the Shelby decision to the point that 22 states immediately thereafter put in place laws that one court found were crafted with surgical precision to have black people not be able to vote. So we've got to recognize back to that earlier point. People aren't starting out on the same base in terms of their ability to succeed.
Starting point is 01:00:04 And so we have got to recognize that and give people a lift up. So you are for some type of preparation. Yes, I am. Yes, I am. You know what worries me and bothers me? When I seen Bernie and Hillary running, people rolled for Bernie so much that when she actually won, they turned their back and they did not want to have anything to do with Hillary, which was part of the reason why I felt like she lost do you have that fear or is
Starting point is 01:00:27 there a game plan for that because there's so many people running there's gonna be people that's gonna be gun hole with Cory Booker and gun hole with you and gun hole with whoever runs you know whoever else runs is that some type of I guess strategy to make sure that if one of those people don't make it and you make it that those people ride with you because Because if they don't, it's going to be like it's kind of divided so much that we have 45 again. It is my hope and prayer that we do not divide. When I first made the decision to run, I actually called a number of my colleagues who had either announced or I knew were thinking about announcing to make just that point and to reach out to them. I have a great deal of respect for the folks who have decided to run,
Starting point is 01:01:07 and I know there are others who are seriously thinking about it who I also respect. I would hope that we understand that there is so much at stake right now. And to your point about the 2016 election, we would be at an inflection point even if he hadn't been elected. The world is changing. Economies are rising and falling in different countries. You see populations shifting. We're certainly not talking enough about climate change and what that is going to do in a very short matter of time in terms of what world our children are going to live in and our grandchildren. So there's so much that's happening. And this is
Starting point is 01:01:41 a moment that's actually I find very exciting to think about. What is our plan for what will be America's standing in the world given so much change that is happening? And so at least I'll speak for myself. That's the prize my eye is on, which is to look at where we need to be unburdened by where we have been. We got more with Kamala Harris when we come back. Don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:02:08 Good morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. We have Senator Kamala Harris in the building. She's running for president in 2020. Charlamagne? Your truancy program got a lot of criticism, too. Did you actually lock anybody up? No, we never locked anybody up. That was an initiative that was focused on my belief that education is a fundamental right.
Starting point is 01:02:32 A child going without an education is something that all of us as a community should be highly concerned with and we should put in place incentives to get children into school every day. Here's the thing that was behind that. I did an analysis of who the homicide victims were who were under the age of 25 when they were killed when I was DA. And over 90% of them are high school dropouts. When I started to look at the statistics, I realized that 82% of the prisoners in the United States are high school dropouts.
Starting point is 01:03:02 An African-American man between the age of, I think it's 30 and 34, a high school dropout is two-thirds likely to be in jail, have been in jail, or dead. There is a direct connection between public education and public safety. I looked at the issue of elementary school truancy. An elementary school truant is two to three times more likely to be a high school dropout. I looked at the issue of third grade reading level, something that we really need to understand. If by the end of third grade, a child is not at third grade reading level, they literally drop off. Because before third grade, a child is learning how to read. Then comprehension kicks in and they're reading to learn. So I focused on this, understanding that so many of the children in our community are at risk for not
Starting point is 01:03:46 going to school every day while they're in elementary school. And it is not a function of that parent's love for the child. It is usually a function of that parent's ability to have the resources they need to take care of what needs to happen on a daily basis. So you didn't lock up parents when their kids didn't go to school?
Starting point is 01:04:02 I'm just trying to clear up all the BS. Also, and I know the answer to this too, they say you oppose legalizing weed. That's not true. I know. And look, I joke about it, have joking, I have my family's from Jamaica, are you kidding me? They'd be so mad at you. Right, no, no, I do not, no, no, no. I have had concerns, which I think must.
Starting point is 01:04:27 First of all, let me just make the statement very clear. I believe we need to legalize marijuana and we need to research, which is one of the reasons we need to legalize it. The impact of weed on a developing brain. You know, that part of the brain that develops judgment actually begins its growth at age 18 through age 24 frontal cortex that's exactly right that's right on the other issue that that we've got to address is is how we're gonna measure impairment when somebody has been smoking weed in terms of driving so that needs to be addressed also but I am absolutely in favor of legalizing marijuana. We've got to do it.
Starting point is 01:05:05 We have incarcerated so many in particular young men and young men of color in a way that we have not for the same level of use other young men. Have you ever smoked? I have. Okay. And I inhale. I did inhale.
Starting point is 01:05:22 It was a long time ago. I just broke loose. I mean, was it in college? See, I like stuff like that. That's a real honey band. Was it a blunt or a joint? It was a joint. Hey, do you remember the high?
Starting point is 01:05:37 I do. So if it was legalized all throughout the country and medicinal, would you do it? Listen, I think that it gives a lot of people joy and we need more joy. We need more joy as well. Another myth is that, I don't know if it's a myth, but they say you took campaign donations from big banks. No, I have not
Starting point is 01:05:56 taken from corporations and big banks. I don't believe that I have. What does Kamala Harris listen to? What were you listening to when you was high? What was on? What song was it? Oh my goodness. Oh yeah, definitely Snoop. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 01:06:09 Tupac, for sure. What are you listening to now? What's your favorite hip-hop artist now? What's your favorite artist? You know who I really love is Cardi B. You like Cardi B?
Starting point is 01:06:16 I really do. Okay. Everybody gets really, just jokes, sometimes I just turn on Be Careful of Me. That's your favorite? Well, it's one of them. I just, I think she's so fantastic, but Be Careful of Me. That's your favorite meal? Well, it's one of them.
Starting point is 01:06:26 I just, I think she's so fantastic. But there's so many. What's your favorite place to go to to relax? When this is over, you say, I'm going to take a couple days and go here.
Starting point is 01:06:33 Where's that? My kitchen and start cooking. Your kitchen. What's your favorite meal to cook? Curry goat. Yeah, man. Jerk chicken. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 01:06:41 Them got a bushing, bring me back a goat and I cook it up. What do you cook? It ranges. I make a really mean bolognese. I cook it for about four hours. Bolognese, it's like a,
Starting point is 01:06:56 it's an Italian meat sauce. Oh, okay. No, and then I do it with like pork and veal and beef. You eat pork still? Yeah, I eat the pig. Jesus Christ. That might do it for me. I don't know if I can.
Starting point is 01:07:10 I don't fucking pork that. You know, that's what I'm saying. Bacon, I call bacon a spice. Bacon is a spice. Absolutely. A bunch of things. I make the best greens you've ever had. I'm going to hold you to that.
Starting point is 01:07:24 I'm going to tell you why. Because they're going to turn that into a soundbite. That's one of them times you're pandering to black people, but she's black. But I'm black. And I'm proud of being black. And I was born black. I will die black. And I'm not going to make any excuses for anybody because they don't understand.
Starting point is 01:07:38 And we want to taste the greens. We want them with turkey, not ham hocks. Ain't no one with no ham hock. Well, I do it with bacon. I know this is not the last time you're going to be. Well, I do it with bacon. Ain't no one with little bacon. Yeah. I know this is not the last time you're going to be here, but I do want to ask you this before you leave, because I see this online all the time,
Starting point is 01:07:52 and I don't think it's fair. I don't even think the person or life should matter, but they do mention your husband a lot. Uh-huh. And they say, how is she so black, but she married white? Look, I love my husband, and he happened to be the one that I chose to marry because I love him, and that was that moment in time. And that's it.
Starting point is 01:08:06 All right. That's it. And he loves me. All right. Absolutely. That's all that matters. That's right. All right.
Starting point is 01:08:11 Well, thank you for joining us. We appreciate you. And please, make this your second home when you come to New York. Okay. All right. Yes. Because you're talking directly to the people that have questions. And there's going to be more questions as the campaign continues.
Starting point is 01:08:22 And we need to address them. Yes. We need to address them. Because when we come to Cali, we're coming to get some bacon. And some greens. I know, that's right. I can do vegetarian. But you're not a vegetarian.
Starting point is 01:08:30 You just don't eat pork. I might be by the time the 2020 election comes around. I'm leaning there. Vegetarian? Yeah. I can do a lot of vegetarian, too. I have a few good recipes for you. Don't try to distract me from them greens.
Starting point is 01:08:43 We're going to find out if them greens are popping or not. Yeah, but I make them with bacon. I'm telling you. Okay, I'll got them for you. And where can we donate to your campaign? Because I know you raised $1.5 million in 24 hours. I'm sure that number's going up. Yes, it has.
Starting point is 01:08:56 And the thing that I'm really proud of is at an average of $37 a contributor. Wow. Kamalaharris.org. K-A-M-A-L-A-H-A-R-R-I-S dot org. Thank you. Well, it's Kamalaharris. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Thank you. It's good to be with you. Is your country falling apart?
Starting point is 01:09:16 Feeling tired? Depressed? A little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There's 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete.
Starting point is 01:09:31 Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson the First, King of Kaperburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. Why can't I create my own country? My forefathers did that themselves.
Starting point is 01:09:45 What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh, my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets.
Starting point is 01:09:56 We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey guys, I'm Kate Max. As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself, and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves.
Starting point is 01:11:37 For self-preservation and protection, it was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself.
Starting point is 01:12:00 You're trying your best. And you're going to figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before listen to on purpose with jay shetty on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts morning everybody it's dj mv angela yee charlamagne the guy we are the breakfast club good morning salute to kamala harris kamala har, yes. There you go. This is our second time on The Breakfast Club. First time as a 2020 presidential candidate, but
Starting point is 01:12:30 won't be the last. Correct. I tend to like Kamala Harris. I like Kamala Harris, too. I do. Okay, so that's where you're swaying toward as of now. I didn't say all that. I like her as a person. I'm just saying you sway to her right now as far as what we know. I've liked her for a while now. I've liked her for a while now.
Starting point is 01:12:46 I've liked her for a while now. All right. Well, let's get to these rumors. Let's talk Tory Lanez. She's spilling the tea. This is the Rumor Report with Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club. All right. Well, Tory Lanez, you know, he is welcoming the competition with these freestyle rap battles that he's been doing. And now another artist actually did a diss song toward Tory Lanez.
Starting point is 01:13:10 But clearly he's doing that for, you know, just the sport of it. He's a Canadian rapper as well. His name is Dax. And he put out a diss record called I'm Not Joyner or Don Q. And it's clearly a Tory Lanez. I mean, the whole thing is him going at Tory Lanez. But it's not personal. In case you haven't heard it, here's a snippet.
Starting point is 01:13:26 I am not the other people you battled. I won't get personal. I rap and sing just like you, but it's purposeful. Don Q lets you live. Joyner murdered you. I cut you up limb by limb. It's surgical. To be the best, you have to speak on more topics than your riches.
Starting point is 01:13:40 I'm a rapper for the people. You a rapper for the bitches. Changing lives, I will live and I'll last. But as soon as you stop rapping, you're a thing of the past. Just another rapper waiting on a check from an entity. You'll die and be forgotten. I will die and leave a legacy. Rap, sing melodies.
Starting point is 01:13:53 My cadence straight heavenly. Rap game saving. You infected. I'm the remedy. All right. So that's the part of the diss record. Now there's also some messages between the two of them. Now Tory Lanez posted it.
Starting point is 01:14:04 He said, brother, I don't know what your tactic is, but I'm telling you now, I don't know you and I'm not in the mood for none of this ish. Not everything is going to end with a rap battle. Just do what you do and I'm going to do what I do because you go saying the wrong ish about me. We're not going to be rapping at each other. And Dax responded, oh, damn, it was just for fun, Brody. All about nothing
Starting point is 01:14:19 even personal. Well, unfortunately, Tory Lanez ran into Dax and videotaped their interaction where he forced Dex to apologize. Here's how it went. Why is Tory Lanez so aggressive? I thought he told all the rappers. He kind of opened the door. All right, Ben. I got you. Why is Tory Lanez so aggressive? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:14:45 Why is he so aggressive? It's a diss song. I thought he told all the rappers. He kind of opened the doors for it. If you think you nice, give me some bars. The guy gave him some bars. I think he only wanted certain rappers. He only wanted certain rappers to come at him.
Starting point is 01:14:56 I didn't hear the dude Dax say anything disrespectful. Wasn't no SMD talk. Wasn't no F your mama talk. What did Tory get so aggressive for? And he even said it wasn't personal. He just was trying to throw his hat in the ring and jump in as well. I want in on this action, Tori.
Starting point is 01:15:10 Well, he got in on the action. Jesus. I thought that's what he wanted. All right, Wendy Williams, according to page six, things are unraveling, and a lot of that is because of her allegedly abusive husband.
Starting point is 01:15:21 Now, she promised a better Wendy in 2019 after last year she was having all kinds of issues where she was slurring, repeating words. And according to sources close to her, they said she's been acting erratically at work for the last few years and things have gotten worse in recent months. Well, according to what sources close to her are saying,
Starting point is 01:15:38 they're saying that she's just been having a really hard time and it's really her husband that's been behind the issues. They said that he would scream at the interns and this is something that's been going on for quite some time since 2008. That's been an issue and you know, they do say that he was physically abusive toward her as well. In one
Starting point is 01:15:58 instance, they say that he stormed into the studio, demanded that other employees leave, and openly physically abused Wendy Williams, pinning her against the wall with his hand around her neck, choking her while repeatedly pounding his fist into the wall directly by her head. The case for that was settled in October 22nd, 2008. According to a former radio employee, they said they're not your typical couple. They're not a couple where you think there is love there. It's very toxic.
Starting point is 01:16:23 So not sure what's going on, but hopefully they get it together. According to one former TV producer, they said at one point, Wendy Williams became very vegan-esque. Kevin would berate her if she ate something that was not on their eating plan. He would scream, don't be a fat ass. And so there's a bunch
Starting point is 01:16:39 of different stories from sources close to the couple and people that have worked with them. There's a quote from Charlamagne in this article as well. What did that quote say? It says, I don't F with Kevin. I think he's a terrible human being. I will just tell you that I hope Wendy Williams wakes up before one day she doesn't wake up.
Starting point is 01:16:53 End quote. End quote, yes. So that was Charlamagne's response as someone who worked with them. Have you seen things? I don't F with Kevin, Hunter. He's a terrible human being. She didn't ask you that.
Starting point is 01:17:03 I said, I mean, there's sources close to her that are speaking out that have worked with her. You worked with her very closely. I think the Karma Cafe is open and you get served what you deserve. That's what I think for Kevin Hunter. Could you see these allegations being true? I don't F with Kevin Hunter. He's a terrible human being. That's all you got?
Starting point is 01:17:21 Man, I hope Wendy Williams wakes up before she doesn't wake up. So that's your... Listen, this is the rumor report. We need something exclusive. I don't F with Kevin Hunter. I think he's a terrible human being. Have you seen anything from your own eyes? You worked here.
Starting point is 01:17:33 I don't F with Kevin Hunter. I think he's a terrible human being. And I hope Wendy Williams wakes up before she doesn't wake up. You sound like a recording. I see you, Kevin. I know what you did last summer, too. Salute to... Is this a, too. Salute to... Is this a scary movie?
Starting point is 01:17:47 Salute to Danny Astoria. Salute to Philip Jordan, a.k.a. Phil Gates. Salute to Nikki. What else? Oh, yeah. Who are these people? I know what you did last summer. This is scary.
Starting point is 01:18:00 I don't F with you, bruh, bruh. At all. Goodness gracious. No love there. Zero. All right. No love there. Zero. All right. Zilch. All right, I'm sure one day we're going to find out what this is all about.
Starting point is 01:18:09 Oh, one day you will. But in the meantime, this is a rumor report, so let's mark this date, February 11th. One day we're going to play this back, and he said this on the rumor report. It sounds like a scary movie. When all these allegations come to light. It's other shoes about to drop, baby. You ain't got to worry about that there. Anything else you want to say?
Starting point is 01:18:29 I don't know. Charlamagne has never been very vocal about his not effing with Kevin Hunter until now. Exactly. I'm sure there's something that we don't know about yet behind the scenes publicly. Want to say anything else? I don't eff with Kevin Hunter. Alright, I'm Angela Yee,
Starting point is 01:18:45 and that is your Rumor Report. Wait till that other shoe drops. Yes. What are you giving that donkey to? We need all those brands that disrespected us this weekend with the blackface to come to the front of the congregation.
Starting point is 01:18:58 We'd like to have a word with them. All right, we'll get into that next. Keep it locked. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Your mornings will never be the same. Boomerang.
Starting point is 01:19:08 Executive produced by Lena Waithe and Halle Berry. BET brings you a new chapter born of the classic film, One Generation Later. Boomerang premieres tomorrow at 10 p.m. only on BET. It's time for Donkey of the Day. Donkeys of the Day at Charlemagne. I'm a Democrat, so being Donkey of the Day is a little bit of a mixed one. So like a donkey, he's Donkey of the Day. The Breakfast Club, bitches.
Starting point is 01:19:36 Now, I've been called a lot in my 23 years, but Donkey of the Day is a new one. Yes, Donkey of the Day for Monday, February 11th goes to Gucci, Prada, Montclair and whatever other fashion brand decided that blackface would be the fashion trend for this season. Now, listen, for the last time, white people, blackface is a no go. I don't even understand why we have to tell you this anymore. OK, that's exactly why there can be no more passes when it comes to things like blackface. OK, nobody can say they didn't know. All right? This isn't a teachable moment for anyone. At this point in life, you should know what blackface is, and you should know why it's offensive, okay?
Starting point is 01:20:12 Blackface has been around since the 19th century, okay? It is a form of theatrical makeup used predominantly by non-black performers that represent a caricature of a black person. Now, when these non-black performers do these caricatures of black people in blackface, it's mostly always negative stereotypes, whether it's Ralph Northam, Governor of Virginia, our comedian Sarah Silverman. We all wonder, why do these mayonnaise-flavored mammals continue to disrespect us by wearing blackface? Okay, here's the thing.
Starting point is 01:20:38 I don't care why they wear it. I just know when they wear it, from now on, there should be consequences and repercussions. That's why even though I think this is a very first-world i'm glad ti called for a boycott of gucci which led to a boycott of all those other brands who all decided to put blackface on their merchandise can we hear what trouble man 31 had to say please everybody you know what i'm saying talk about h&m then you know what i'm saying it's quick to run straight back in there and that's why we ain't never got no world now here we are we got guc. We buy more of they s*** than Italians do.
Starting point is 01:21:08 Now, they want our business so much, they want to get Dapper Dan to become a designer consultant. So we don't have to force them to like us, but what we do have to do is stop spending our motherf***ing money with people who gonna continue to give you they a** to kiss. The only reason Gucci had it, because we made that s***
Starting point is 01:21:25 Jesus Christ. Dropping the clues bombs for Trouble Man 31. P.I.P. I love the spirit of this boycott. Okay, I think that black people have to start teaching people how to treat us because they don't play with other groups like that. They don't play with Asians. They don't play with Jewish people. They don't play with LGBT.
Starting point is 01:21:42 And if they even think about playing with those groups, it is severe consequences and repercussions. We have to start hitting them where it hurts, and where it hurts is their pockets, okay? I know boycotting Gucci is a first world problem, and a lot of y'all can't boycott what you can't afford. R never bought. But the idea of this
Starting point is 01:21:57 is exactly how we need to be moving when it comes to anyone who disrespects us and our ancestry, okay? Now, T.I. put up a call to action. It's three of these things that he wants us to do. He wants us to stop ancestry, okay? Now, T.I. put up a call to action. It's three of these things that he wants us to do. He wants us to stop buying Gucci for the next three months. If you own anything, Gucci don't wear it. Three, share it with your social network.
Starting point is 01:22:17 Once again, for me, I can't boycott what I don't buy, nor can I boycott what I can't afford. But I like the spirit of this, okay? I'm with y'all in spirit. I know this seems like nothing. I know it seems very trivial. But a lot of great movements throughout history have started with something trivial. Okay, I'm literally rereading the autobiography of Malcolm X right now. And he is talking about the Montgomery bus boycott when Rosa Parks refused to move.
Starting point is 01:22:39 He said, compared to the murders, rapes, lynchings that went on in the South, her not moving out of her seat seemed like something light, but it sparked a greater movement. And that's what I potentially see happening right now. Okay, this is the time for us to, one, start teaching people how to treat us. Two, start learning the value of our dollar and our spending power. And three, start respecting our own. We shouldn't have to get disrespected in order to start respecting our own.
Starting point is 01:23:05 Now, I'm not the fashion guy at all. Okay. Anyone who knows me knows that I don't go chasing Gucci. I stick to the Target, Goodfella, and graphic tees that I'm used to. But 85% of what I wear on a daily basis is black-owned with black designers. Okay. On my Instagram, y'all can follow me, C to God, C-T-H-A-G-O-D. On my IG, I post pictures all the time, and I say I'm having a great shirt day or a great hoodie day.
Starting point is 01:23:28 When I do that, it's intentional, okay? Those companies I tag in those posts are black-owned. Right now, I am currently wearing two of my favorite black brands. My shirt is Sir Fresh. That's black. My jeans are Art Meets Chaos. That's black. My coat is Goose Country.
Starting point is 01:23:43 That's black, okay? Not just the color. The company is owned by black people and it's designed by black people. Once again, we shouldn't have to be disrespected in order to start respecting our own, okay? To me, everything I'm wearing right now is more valuable than Gucci
Starting point is 01:23:57 or any of those other luxury brands because it's for us by us. I don't know why you people keep buying from people who tolerate you when you could be buying from people who tolerate you when you could be buying from people that celebrate you, okay? Buy black, bank black, give black, black, black, black,
Starting point is 01:24:12 blackity, black, black, okay? If you aren't being treated with love and respect, check your price tag. Maybe you've marked yourself down. It's you who tells people what you're worth. Get off the clearance rack and get behind the glass where they keep the valuables, okay? Black people, you're worth. Get off the clearance rack and get behind the glass where they keep the valuables, okay? Black people, you are valuable.
Starting point is 01:24:27 Your dollar is valuable. Act like it. You teach people how to treat you by what you allow, what you stop, and what you reinforce. Let's reinforce putting just as much energy into supporting black businesses as we do putting energy into boycotting white ones. Please give Gucci, Prada, and Montclair the biggest, y'all. All right, well, thank you for that donkey of the day. Yes, sir. And it's important what Spike Lee had to say, too,
Starting point is 01:24:54 that he's not wearing Prada or Gucci until they hire some black designers to be in the room, he said, when it happens. That's true, because then you won't make these mistakes. You know what I'm saying? All right, now, what are we talking about here? All right, well, this was interesting.. What we talking about, yeah? Alright, well, this was interesting. A couple of days ago, Alexandria Amor, that's her name
Starting point is 01:25:09 on social media, very pretty girl. Pretty woman. She put up, she posted a voice message that someone left for her. This guy named Melvin. I guess she gave him her number at her job, and he got upset because she wasn't responding. Check it out. Hey, this is Melvin and i texted you
Starting point is 01:25:27 last night you never responded back um if you didn't want me to have your number then why did you give it to me that was kind of like dumb as hell you got your little rinky dink minimum wage job at marshall's and you think you the bomb and even a firecracker wearing wigs like you some 90 year old lady with no hair i'm not about to be chasing you around i mean unless you're mentally retarded or something normally when somebody calls or texts you that you gave your number you respond back he's hurt now the message went on from there he had a lot of things to say about all the women that he gets in san diego and so on and so forth a lot of people thought this was the same guy trey who called who called in for Ask Ye. If you remember, here was the Ask Ye question.
Starting point is 01:26:05 We have Trey on the line. Trey, good morning. Good morning. So I'm going to the DMV, and I see this bad phone call come through the door. So I get her number, and then I text and I call, and she barely responds. So I'm like, why are you giving me your number if you weren't answering? All right, I don't know. Question.
Starting point is 01:26:24 Did he expect her to call him back after that and say, you know, you're right. I was tripping. I think he did. I think he did. Did he expect that? He tried to tell her off, which is crazy. But it's so crazy to me just because she didn't respond. Now, here's the advice that I gave to Trey.
Starting point is 01:26:38 What are you saying on these text messages and when you call? Hey, how you doing? You know, just are you interested? When you're available, we've got some time. We can go out to eat, go out to dinner, get to know each other.
Starting point is 01:26:49 You know, just basic stuff and she'll come back with, oh, well, you know, I worked all day. I'm busy. Oh, I was going to spend some time with my son. I'm just like, okay.
Starting point is 01:26:56 Yeah, Trey, she's clearly not interested. All right. Just don't send no passive-aggressive text messages. We can't stand those. Oh, too late. Okay.
Starting point is 01:27:06 Damn it, man. Because that's annoying. That'll make me never hit somebody back. And that's right. That'll make you never hit somebody back. And I feel like this, Alexandra, you dodged a bullet by not answering that guy. Anybody that reacts that way is not somebody you ever want to talk to in life. I love that. The fact that you could get so mad about someone not responding, someone you don't even know like that. Well, let's open up
Starting point is 01:27:22 the phone lines. 800-585-1051. Has that happened to you? It seems like that would have happened to Charlamagne. Maybe a girl gave Charlamagne a number, Charlamagne didn't call back back in your day? Listen, this has happened to me a few times where people get so mad that you don't respond. Somebody didn't call you back?
Starting point is 01:27:36 I'm with you. It's not even about relationships sometimes. Sometimes it can be about business. By the way... Like, relax. Yeah, somebody gets your number and then they reach out to you because they're trying to do something with you, some business or whatnot, and you don't get back to them, then they leave you some crazy message. Like, relax. Yeah, somebody gets your number and then they reach out to you because they're trying to do something with you,
Starting point is 01:27:45 some business or whatnot, and you don't get back to them, then they leave you some crazy message. That happens sometimes. That happens all the time. It's crazy. Like, why do you think that's going to work? But we want to hear your stories
Starting point is 01:27:54 of things that have happened to you where you gave somebody your information, you gave them your number, somehow you didn't respond right away or maybe not at all, you weren't interested. What happened next? That happens all the time.
Starting point is 01:28:04 Let's talk about it. 800-585-1051. If that happened to you, call us now. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Now, if you just join
Starting point is 01:28:20 us, we were talking about something that we've seen on, what was it on? Shade Room or Ball Alert? Well, I've seen it when she posted it at first because everybody was tagging me on Twitter. And so this woman, Alexandria Moore, she got a voice message from a guy she gave her number to. Hey, this is Melvin. I texted you last night. You never responded back. If you didn't want me to have your number, then why did you give it to me?
Starting point is 01:28:42 That was kind of like dumb as hell. You got your little rinky-dink minimum wage job at marshall's and you think you're the bomb and even a firecracker wearing wigs like you some 90 year old lady with no hair i'm not about to be chasing you around i mean unless you're mentally retarded or something normally when somebody calls or texts you that you gave your number you respond back now we're asking 8005-85-1051. Has that ever happened to you? Has that happened to you, E? Yes, it definitely has. I remember one guy, and I met him.
Starting point is 01:29:11 It was supposed to be business. Then he started texting me trying to ask me out, and so I just ignored him. And he started sending me these really nasty, rude messages like, oh, so you think you are that, da-da-da-da-da. That's why these guys treat you like ish. And I'm like, I have a boyfriend. Relax. Get out of my messages.
Starting point is 01:29:28 And I have never hit him back since. That happens to me a lot. If you ever fly somewhere, like if you fly to L.A. or get on a plane and you're talking to somebody, and they're going to be like, damn, you can't answer your phone? I'll be like, I was flying. That happens all the time. Charlamagne? Stuff like that happens to me all the time, especially when it comes to business, man.
Starting point is 01:29:48 Somebody called my phone last week saying they got my number from somebody in my own corner and they wanted to talk to me and they was like you know i was like well you got the wrong number and they was like they was like it's not shall we i said now you got the wrong number and i hung up then they sent me a text as much as i listen to you on the radio i I know your voice, and it's effed up. You don't have time to talk to a black financial advisor, something, whatever, whatever, shaking my head. I blocked his number. You know what I'm saying? I can't believe you tried to say it wasn't you. That's a little disrespectful.
Starting point is 01:30:17 That's a little disrespectful. What's disrespectful is calling somebody's phone unsolicited. You know what I'm saying? I would have just been like, I can't talk right now, hung up and blocked the number. I wouldn't have said I wasn't me. That wasn't me. It's Amy.
Starting point is 01:30:29 I changed my voice. I'm like, yeah. Peace. This Charlamagne? No. Who this? This Charlamagne? No.
Starting point is 01:30:37 Got the wrong number. Who the hell is you? Sunny! Hey, good morning, Breakfast Club. Hey, morning, Sunny. Now, this happen to you, Sunny? Yes. Oh, my goodness. This Club. Hey, morning, Sunny. Now, this happened to you, Sunny? Yes. Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 01:30:46 This happened to me a couple years ago. I gave this guy my number, like he seemed cool or whatever, and I ended up having to go into, I got called into work that night. I ended up working a job with my phone guy. So when I got home, I plugged my phone in. How about I had six text messages, two missed calls, and two voicemails from him? No. I was like, yo, what missed calls and two voicemails from him? No. I was like, yo, what the hell?
Starting point is 01:31:07 So the messages started out cold. It was, oh, good morning. How you doing? Have a good day, beautiful. By the time that six message came down, it was, oh, you think you're so cute. You're nothing but a Megan Good knockoff. Damn. I'm not going to chase you around.
Starting point is 01:31:21 I'm like, okay, somebody has feelings. So I checked the voicemail. The voicemail with the first one was a little short one. I got the call that morning. The second one, this man went on a rant, and so the voicemail cut him off. You know you're crazy when you're leaving voicemails, because no one even does that anymore.
Starting point is 01:31:36 No one leaves a voicemail. You're gonna cut you off like the Grammys cut Drake off last night? Listen, I'm thinking it's a bill collector voicemail or something. I went to delete it. I'm like, wait a minute. Listen. You are next level crazy When you start leaving voice messages She gonna hear this
Starting point is 01:31:51 You look like Megan Good I've been told that Okay okay Okay baby Megan That's the line he tried to use I mean I've been told that before That's the line he tried to use But I'm like okay so because I ain't answering you
Starting point is 01:32:05 Now I'm a fake Megan Good You need to You're like plus I was at work Working a double Like get off my D I'm gonna tell you I'm gonna tell you
Starting point is 01:32:13 If you look like Megan Good What's your Instagram It's Prez Funny What is it Prez Funny P-R-E-Z Uh huh Funny

Starting point is 01:32:31 You don't look like Megan Good Stop it Anyway Listen Don't pay him no mind Is this Chanel Edward Chanel
Starting point is 01:32:37 Yeah Like I don't see it Nah I've been told it before I don't see it at all Yeah you don't look like Megan Good Nah
Starting point is 01:32:43 I'll leave her alone Alright Sonny Thank you Alright Sonny Thanks Sonny. I don't see it at all. Yeah, you don't look like Megan. Nah. I'll leave her alone. All right, Sonny. Thank you. All right, Sonny. Thanks, Sonny. Yeah. I don't even know why he would say something such a thing.
Starting point is 01:32:53 You don't get 585-454-3. No idea why he would even remotely say such a thing. Oh, my goodness. All right. So, what's the question, Adelaide? Where do you live? Where do people tell their stories about things that happened to them when they didn't answer or return somebody's messages right away. Call us up right now.
Starting point is 01:33:07 It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Now, if you just joined us, you were talking about this voicemail that was released on social media over the weekend. Yes, Alexandria Amor is her name. She's a cute girl, too.
Starting point is 01:33:22 And what happened? She didn't respond to this guy's phone calls, messages, and he got very irate. Okay, all right. Well, let's go to the phone. We got Vince on the line. Vince, good morning. Hey, good morning. Now, Vince, this happen to you?
Starting point is 01:33:35 Yes, it definitely happened to me, man. I was working on an Army base doing some construction, and I guess it was this female soldier. She approached me. Beautiful, beautiful Native American young lady and she was you know I didn't think she would have you know said to me we we getting off work she you know asked for my number I gave her my number didn't think she would never call me two days later she calls me okay she said well why didn't you call me I said I gave you my number you didn't give me your number.
Starting point is 01:34:06 She was like, well, you were supposed to try to get up with me. How? How? I said, it's okay. Well, that's fine. You got my number now. I got a few minutes to talk. Let's talk now.
Starting point is 01:34:18 She said, no, no. You were supposed to call me. And I was just like, I'm thinking this lady may have been like certifiable crazy. And I was very disappointed because this was one of the prettiest women in my life who's ever approached me. And I think this woman was cuckoo. So, yeah, needless to say, you didn't follow up. Not at all. Trey.
Starting point is 01:34:39 Hey. Oh, this is Trey who called in for Ask Ye. Yeah. Trey, this isn't you that left that voice message. Well, no, I didn't leave a voice. No, that's not me. That's a totally different guy. I mean, but that just goes to show you that there's an epidemic going on right now.
Starting point is 01:34:55 Oh, my God. So you're going to blame the woman? I don't want to blame anybody, but we don't want to be one-sided here. When guys play games with women, you say, hey, look, you know, that's wrong. That's not right. But when women play games with guys, no one wants to speak up on that. How are you playing a game with somebody you don't even know, though? Y'all never even went out
Starting point is 01:35:13 on one date. If you're not interested, say, hey, look, you know, I've changed my mind. I'm going back to my ex or I don't have time right now. It sounds good, but that doesn't give you the right to go in like that. Regardless, it doesn't. It just means you leave it alone.
Starting point is 01:35:29 Yeah, but that's kind of rude to just, you know, not say nothing. Trey, you're a little crazy, man. Trey, you could just be like, okay, that was rude. I'm just not talking to her. I'm not going to hit her up no more. That's all. He's saying it's not him. He called for Asky and people thought it was him.
Starting point is 01:35:43 I'm very familiar. I ain't gonna lie. Trey, code name Melvin. You sound like Melvin to me. Don't I sound much smoother than that guy? That guy sounded... No, you ain't. But, Trey, on some real, some advice,
Starting point is 01:35:56 if a woman is not interested and you can tell she's not interested because she's not responding, just leave it alone. You ain't got to leave no nasty message or a text message. Just leave it alone. Yeah, that sucker is Trey. Well, that's true. I nasty message or a text message. Just leave it alone. Yeah, that sucker is true. That's true. I don't leave the nasty message. I'm a gentleman.
Starting point is 01:36:10 It's that sense of entitlement that men have over women that leads to things like sexual assault, that leads to rape, that leads to women getting hit by guys because men have
Starting point is 01:36:18 this sense of entitlement. Is that Charlemagne? No, it's not. Wrong number. Bye, Trey. All right, what's the moral of the story, man? The moral of the story is stop having a sense of entitlement. Don't nobody owe you nothing. Nothing. Nothing at all.
Starting point is 01:36:33 Look, if someone's not interested, just don't try to talk to them anymore. Simple. Period. No reason for leaving a nasty message. No reason for texting somebody something nasty. She's not into you. So what? Move on. Find somebody who is. All right. Well, we got rumors on the way.
Starting point is 01:36:47 Yes. We are going to talk about the Roccanation brunch that happened. This happens every Grammy weekend. And some people had a great time and some people did not because they weren't invited. We got a list of people who couldn't get in. A list of people who got stuck at the gate. Really? Some people definitely left some nasty messages to Jamie and Beyonce.
Starting point is 01:37:03 And Elliot. All right. We'll get into that next. messages to Jamie and Beyonce. And Elliot. All right. We'll get into that next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Your mornings will never be the same. You don't need snow to have an adult snow day.
Starting point is 01:37:15 Head to eBay this winter and make the most of your money shopping eBay deals with our best price guarantee. Plus, free shipping on millions of items. If it's happening on your adult snow day, it's happening on eBay. The Breakfast Club. All right, morning, everybody. It's DJ, MV, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club. Let's get to these rumors.
Starting point is 01:37:37 Let's talk Roc Nation brunch. Listen up. It's just in. All the gossip. Gossip. The rumor report. Gossip. Gossip.
Starting point is 01:37:44 With Angela Yee. It's the rumor report. All the gossip. Gossip. The Rumor Report. Gossip. Gossip. With Angela Yee. It's the Rumor Report. The Breakfast Club. Well, the Roc Nation pre-Grammy brunch happened over the weekend, and a lot of people couldn't get in. A lot of people did get in, though. Now, they do this every single year, and it's like one of the biggest events of the year. That's what everybody wants to get into. Roc Nation got better border security than the USA.
Starting point is 01:38:05 God damn it. All right. We saw a lot of people that were there, though. We saw Robin Thicke was there. Machine Gun Kelly. Fat Joe. Casanova was there. Casanova.
Starting point is 01:38:16 Terrence J was there. Lori Harvey was there. And people were going in on her because it was a video clip where she was talking to Jay-Z. And she's laughing and the beehive came for her. Boy, they were so mad that she was laughing and she even responded on the stage room.
Starting point is 01:38:33 She said, meanwhile, I'm part of the beehive. All that's beautiful, but we need justice for our guys who couldn't get in, man. I love Rock Nation. Those my people, but we need justice for the following. Ty Dolla $ign. No. Ty couldn't get in?
Starting point is 01:38:46 He couldn't get in. All right? He was told that they were at capacity when he was at the gate. How do we know this? We saw a video. I have sources. You have sources. Okay.
Starting point is 01:38:55 Who else you got? Tuma. Tuma Bass. Tuma? Our guy Tuma. Tuma Bass? Used to be on Spotify now? YouTube?
Starting point is 01:39:01 Yes. Tuma couldn't get in. No. Shaheem Reid of Revolt. Shaheem? Hip-hop historian Shaheem Reid. Why are Yes, Tuma couldn't get in. No. Shaheem Reid of Revolt. Shaheem? Hip-hop historian Shaheem Reid. Why are you embarrassing people that couldn't get in? Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 01:39:09 Who else? Listen, this is a good one. Oh. B-Dot from Rap Radar. No, B-Dot, they do a podcast with Tidal. He works with Tidal. He works. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:39:17 No. Drop one of Clues Bombs for Roc Nation's security, baby. No. That's who Donald Trump needs to be trying to get at the border. But truthfully, this is why you got to get places early, though, especially something like this That's who Donald Trump needs to be trying to get at the border. But truthfully, this is why you gotta get places early, though, especially something like this that you know everyone's
Starting point is 01:39:29 going to. He works there, though. I'm not finished. Did Elliot get in? I don't know. Low key, our guy low key. Low key? Ducey Palooza?
Starting point is 01:39:36 Yes, our guy Cass. No. All right? In fact, everyone who's a part of Ducey Palooza except for Ravy being worried didn't get in. I don't know how true that is,
Starting point is 01:39:44 but I just decided to throw that out there. You just made that up. Why are you being so mean to people just because they couldn't get in. I don't know how true that is, but I just decided to throw that out there. You just made that up. Why are you being so mean to people just because they couldn't get in? I'm not being mean. Is there more?
Starting point is 01:39:51 Why are you... Latoya Luckett couldn't get in? That's disrespectful. Where are you looking this up at? All right, I'm going to move on. Anybody else? Let's talk about people
Starting point is 01:39:59 who were there. No. Dame Dash, but I mean, come on. Shut up. Anyway, Meek Mill and Kevin Hart were there, and there was a video clip that's been circulating. Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 01:40:11 Of a speech that they gave kind of a toast, and here's what was said. More family, more freedom, more ownership, more wins. If you're around this group of people, you're not motivated by what you see. You're a loser. Lose like lose, winners win. Winners win because they surround themselves with winners. I'll be damned if I'm not around a bunch of f***ing winners. Look around you, goddammit, and ask yourself, do you want it?
Starting point is 01:40:35 Because if you do, you get in the rooms like this. That's a real word. That's actually a lie, though. And there's him. What you mean? He was there. Yo, Gotti was there with... What's the lie?
Starting point is 01:40:45 Kaiser. Shout out to Kaiser, who gets in every year, no problem. It And there's him. What you mean? He was there. Yo, Gotti was there with... What's a lie? Kaiser. Shout out to Kaiser, who gets in every year, no problem. It ain't for everybody. What's not? Like, your life ain't going to change just because you was in that room. Jo-Ed was there. It could. It could inspire you.
Starting point is 01:40:54 Your Instagram might get a little lit. It could inspire you to work harder. It's not really going to change. It's all about inspiration. It could inspire you to work harder and be better. All right. Yeah, that's true. All right.
Starting point is 01:41:02 That's it. But your life doesn't magically change, okay? It wasn't a magic wand. All right? It could be. You could make some good networking opportunities there in the room. All right. Yeah, that's true. All right. That's it. But your life doesn't magically change. Okay? It wasn't a magic wand. It could be. You could have made some good networking opportunities there in the room. All right. Well, how would you know? Magically change.
Starting point is 01:41:11 That's exactly why people would be getting left at the gate right there. You're fighting to get in because of conversations like this. And then you could have got a picture with Jay-Z and with Beyonce. Why be that? I didn't just hop the gate. That would be embarrassing. I cannot do that. That would be embarrassing.
Starting point is 01:41:24 He would have got tasered. That would have been awful. I did hear a scooter pulled up and they asked him to get on the scooter but border security said, no, you will not be a part of a caravan that bum rushes
Starting point is 01:41:35 this rock nation of brunch. That's how I'd be. All right, now Lil Uzi Vert is having some issues getting his music out. He's saying that he might have to start all over on a whole new project.
Starting point is 01:41:44 Here's what he told his fans. Now I got to figure it out. Bro, I haven't did anything wrong. Or have one of your boys leak it. But it's still, like, if I leak it, it's still not going to be, you know, the same outcome. And I got to start over.
Starting point is 01:41:58 You think so? I really believe that now. For real? For real. No lie, no lie. All right, he's saying he does want to drop music, but he says when people don't love you, they'll hold your life. If you sign a MF and hold that ish against you and that go for the streets, you ain't supposed to sign no paper in the streets because that's ratting.
Starting point is 01:42:14 And he wants to get out of his deal is what it's really seeming like. If you guys remember, we had DJ Diamond cuts up here and she was one of the first people to put Lil Uzi Vert on. Here's what she had to say when she was on The Breakfast Club. We started creating songs. I played it on a radio. Cannon hit me. Cannon was like of the first people to put Lil Uzi Vert on here is what she had to say when she was on The Breakfast Club. We started creating songs. I played it on a radio. Cannon hit me. Cannon was like, yo, Diamond, who's that kid you played on your set? I said, his name is Uzi. It's an artist that we working with. He was
Starting point is 01:42:34 signed to our management at the time. You know what I mean? So he said, Uzi, come down to Atlanta. Let me show y'all how we work. If you like how we work, you know what I mean? You can sign with us. And he went to Atlanta. Started little by little he wasn't talking to us anymore i called ken and i'm like yo ken and what's up what's going on he was like i don't know he don't want us to tell y'all what's going on with him and that's pretty
Starting point is 01:42:54 much how it happened we heard on the street that he got signed to atlantic lord knows i love that sassy savage little uzi but ain't no good gonna come to you until you do right by DJ Diamond Goods. You see, I got my silly finger. Oh my goodness. But you just can't do that. You can't sign to somebody and then when you want to leave, just be like, alright, I'm out. Not if that person sacrificed, put money into your project, put money into blowing you up
Starting point is 01:43:17 and now that you blew up, nah, you can't just leave. It doesn't work like that. You can pay out the contract. I mean, you can, but you're going to honor this contract. Absolutely. I'm going to get my bread. All right, well, I'm Angela Yee, and that's your Rumor Report. All right, shout out to Revolt.
Starting point is 01:43:30 We'll see you guys tomorrow. Everybody else, the People's Choice Mix is up next, and we're going to start off with some Cardi B, especially because she won that Grammy. Drop one of Clues Bombs with Ben Durella down. That's right. Let me know your favorite Cardi B joint. I'll get it on in the mix.
Starting point is 01:43:42 Shout out to Cardi B. Congrats again. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Today's new Black History Month legend is Mr. LeBron James. And he's not getting this because of what he does
Starting point is 01:43:53 on the court. He's getting it for the amazing things he does often. The Breakfast Club presents a new Black History Month legend. What it means to open up a school and how excited I am about this possibility for me to be able to be in my hometown and be able to open up a school and to know
Starting point is 01:44:10 who's going to benefit from it. And for me to be in a position where I have the resources, I have the finance, and I have the city around me, why not? And that was another new Black History Month legend, courtesy of The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 01:44:25 All right, well, shout out to LeBron James. Salute to LeBron James, man. I mean, come on. A lot of people open up nightclubs. You know, a lot of people open up businesses. He wouldn't open up a whole school. A whole school. If we're complaining about the educational system in our communities, that's what you do, right?
Starting point is 01:44:39 There you go. All right, when we come back, positive note, don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. Starting point is 01:45:06 He is turning 13 today. Sam Torvets? That's the name? Yeah, Sam Torvets. Thank you. Yes, happy birthday, Sam Torvets. Is that the same shout out you had? Yeah.

And if you followed her over the past few years, you would know
Starting point is 01:45:49 a lot of her policies. But I mean, go do your own research. Don't just take people's word for it because of what they're posting on Instagram. Don't even take my word for it. Go do your own research. Correct. Well, leave us on a positive note. Yes. I want to say that cutting people out of your life doesn't mean you hate them. It simply means you respect yourself. Not everyone is meant to stay.
