Fourteen people have been charged in an alleged cocaine trafficking ring tied to two Penn State fraternities. And the sale of the Los Angeles Lakers to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner has hit a wall. This is front page, and here are the day's biggest stories. Stay with me. Carmelo Anthony is back in a calling county, Texas courtroom today with a new defense team and a new legal fight. A visiting judge will decide whether John, Judge Roach, who presided over Carmelo's June trial,

should be removed from his post-trial proceedings. The issue with an interview Roach gave after Carmello was convicted. Did the jury get it right? You know, they did, you know, why? Because they were picked based upon the law. They listened to the facts. Carmela's new attorneys argue those comments raise questions about whether Roach can fairly consider their request for a new trial. And that hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.

One of the defense's arguments centers on what appellate attorney Russell Wilson calls, quote, a gentleman's agreement. Wilson says prosecutor said Carmel's original defense team had an off-the-record understanding that certain character evidence involving Carmelo, Austin Metcalf and Metcalf's brother, would not be introduced at trial. But prosecutors reportedly withdrew from that agreement. The defense says that changed the trial strategy, including Carmelo's decision not to testify.

One potential hurdle, the agreement, was never put on the record. So first, a judge decides who will hear Carmelo's post-trial case, then the new attorneys make their case for why he should get another trial. 14 people are facing charges in an alleged cocaine trafficking operation tied to two Penn State fraternities. 13 are current or former Penn State students. The 14th is the father of one of those students, for the defendants are still enrolled at Penn State. Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday says the alleged operation involved members and pledges of two fraternities. What we learned during this investigation was that between 2003 and 2024,

large amounts of cocaine, kilos were brought from Philadelphia and New York to state college, where they were cut and packaged for sale primarily to Penn State students. The two main dealers were senior members of the Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi fraternities. Agostino Abottiello was at the very top of the chain. Thomas Robinson was a rung below that on the latter. The evidence showed that cocaine was primarily packaged. at the fraternity houses and that packaging was done

by fraternity brothers and oftentimes pledges. In fact, we found a pattern of events that showed cutting and bagging cocaine was for some pledges and indoctrination into the Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi fraternities. Both fraternities are off-campus and Sigma-Kai is not currently recognized

by the university. One of the alleged ringleaders turned himself in Tuesday and has been denied bail. And one student's father, Paul Robinson, is charged with felony tampering. Investigators accuse him of trying to conceal evidence, including a safe containing drugs and cash. Penn State has placed Delta Epsilon on interim suspension, and the university calls the allegations horrifying. And lastly, the $12.5 billion cell of the Los Angeles Lakers has hit a new roadblock inside the bus family. Last week, we told you, former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Thrive Capital founder Josh Kushner

agreed to buy the Lakers in a deal that would value the franchise at $12.5 billion, the highest ever for professional sports team. Now the bus family has to decide what happens to the remaining 17.8% stake. Monday, five of the six bus siblings voted to sell. Jeannie Bus did not. And now her attorney is challenging whether her siblings can move forward without her. Johnny, Jimmy, Janie, Joey, and Jesse Bus released a statement saying they are united in their decision to sell. Jeannie's attorney, Adam Streisand, responded with the letter demanding the family take no action on the vote. His argument goes back to a 2017 court ruling. Jeannie's side says the family state cannot be sold without approval from all three co-trustees, Jeannie, Janie, and Joey.

So even though five of the six siblings voted to sell, Jeannie argues her approval is still required. And there's another major issue for Jeannie. If the Eiger-Kusner cell closes as plan, they would own roughly 83% of the Lakers, and Jeannie would lose her position as governor of the franchise. Jeannie previously had an agreement with Mark Walter, the billionaire Dodgers owner who bought controlling ownership of the Dodgers last year that would allow her to remain governor through at least 2030.

But Walter is also selling his controlling stake as part of the new deal. So what looked like a done deal is now a fight over who has the legal authority to sell the buses' family remaining peace of the Lakers. That's your front page. I'm Mimi Brown.
