The Breakfast Club.
Pay for everybody.
Good morning, U.S. of A. Of a... night? Yesterday was good. I had a photo shoot for this magazine called Prevailing Women and then I've been trying
to do some spring cleaning in my closet,
giving things away, getting rid
of stuff so I can get ready for the winter.
Oh, I've definitely been doing that the past couple weeks.
Definitely been cleaning out the closet.
You know, it's been like a lot of traveling and running around
so my house has been kind of a mess. So after
that photo shoot, I just stayed home
and focused. You know, when you
grow up poor and you know, you've been unemployed four times like me, you don't like to give photo shoot. I just stayed home and focused. You know, when you grow up poor
and you've been unemployed
four times like me,
you don't like to give
anything away
because you just never know.
I am,
but then I realized
like 90% of the stuff
that I have,
I'm not wearing
or I'm not going to ever use.
So I might as well
give it to somebody
who's going to enjoy it.
I do have things
that I've had since college
that I just need to get rid of.
And then some things
have like sentimental value.
You're like, oh, well, this was the first promo shirt I got when I was working on this.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And it's like, dude, you're never wearing that.
I have so many things at home that I'm like, well, I don't want to give this away because maybe one day, nah.
If I haven't worn it in three years, I'm not wearing it.
Did you watch any TV last night?
I missed everything last night.
I didn't watch Fresh Off the Boat.
I didn't watch Black-ish.
I didn't watch The Mayor.
But I did watch Gucci Mane and Kishi Kiyo's Wedding Special.
You know, why was I watching The Game last night?
The Game?
The Cavaliers.
Oh, I thought you meant The Game, like the old school VT-shirt.
Versus the Celtics.
I had The Game on while I was cleaning because I was in and out of the room.
I didn't watch it, but I heard about Gordon Haley.
Oh, that happened early.
Breaking his leg. Yeah. He be all right. Oh, that happened early. Breaking his leg.
Yeah.
He'd be all right.
He's 27 years old.
That was painful.
At first, I was thinking it was going to be a Korean thing,
but they said it was just sort of a broke ankle or something.
Yeah, he'd be all right.
He's 27.
It's bad for the Celtics, though.
The first game.
No, it's bad for Kyrie Irving.
That's what he get.
Shooter stated that's where he was.
I saw it.
I saw the picture.
God bless the brother.
He'll be all right.
But Gucci Man and Keisha Kiyo's wedding special,
I found it very entertaining.
I was just watching everything on social
I forgot it was on at first
What's up, Envy?
I didn't watch it on social
Because I don't be on social like that
But I definitely watched it
And it felt good
Because, you know, it makes you think about your wedding day
And then you look at Gucci fighting back tears
Because that's how every man feels
You know, on their wedding day
I let it go
I just cried
I was like, man
You were really young, too, Envy
Yeah, I was young
I let it go
How old were you? I was, what, 23? Well, I was like, man. You were really young, too. Yeah, I was young. I let it go. How old were you?
I was, what, 23?
Well, I got married three years ago.
My wife was sweet.
I was watching the groom come down.
I'm not the groom.
Watching the bride come down the aisle.
You're very progressive.
You see what she's watching?
I was watching the bride come down the aisle.
You could look at Gucci and tell he wanted to cry.
You know the feeling that he felt in that moment.
So it was interesting to watch.
I'm not going to front.
Salute to BET. I like what BET's doing. They're doing a lot of culturally relevant things. So it was interesting to watch. I'm not going to front. Salute to BET.
I like what BET's doing.
They're doing a lot of culturally relevant things.
So I guess this is now a series, a docuseries.
They're going to show what happened leading up to the wedding.
This is 10 parts, right?
10 parts of this?
Yeah, that's actually a dope way to do it.
Start with the wedding and then show us everything leading up to it.
I actually like that.
That was smart.
Whoever thought about that, that was smart.
All right.
Well, Lin-Manuel Miranda will be joining us this morning. Oh, man. The creator of Hamilton. Mm-hmm. That was smart. Whoever thought about that, that was smart. Alright, well, Lin Manuel Miranda will be joining us this morning.
Oh man, the creator of Hamilton.
In the Heights.
And we'll see what else he's working on.
He has a single out right now, too.
Almost Like Praying.
And the proceeds from that are going to
Puerto Rico.
Yes.
Probably Puerto Rican Lin Manuel Miranda will be here.
And then we got front page news. What are we talking about?
We are going to be...
Oh, man, I hate to do this.
Let me pick somebody else.
All right, let's talk about the NFL.
I didn't want to say Trump again.
We'll talk about Roger Goodell.
He has made his statement about NFL owners and demonstrations.
Yeah, Trump, Roger Goodell, all the same thing.
All right, we'll get into it when we come back.
Keep it locked.
This is Khaled.
It's Wild Thoughts.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God.
We are The Breakfast Club.
Let's get some front-page news.
Now, you know what?
Shout to them Yankees, man.
Baseball is getting damn exciting, boy.
Oh, baseball's exciting because y'all got to boycott the NFL
because y'all Giants are 0-6.
What's the Giants' record?
1-6?
We won one.
1-5?
By the way, but I don't know.
I don't watch football.
Yeah, you're boycotting the NFL.
Shout to them Yankees.
Them playoffs are getting amazing.
They were down four, came back.
They put their rally hats on.
Judge came through the last two games.
We are looking pretty good.
We are looking pretty good.
I'm not watching baseball until everybody get on steroids again.
All right?
I don't know.
All I know is number 99, Judge, he was cracking them.
Shout out to them.
Who's pitching tonight?
Do we know?
I know it's not CeCe.
CeCe can't pitch.
Maybe CeCe pitched back in...
So is the series tied now?
It's tied 2-2 right now.
Yankees-Astros.
Oh, it's 2-2?
2-2.
Okay.
Best out of seven.
Now, the NBA opening night last night, the Cavs beat the Celtics 102-99.
And the Rockets beat the Warriors 122-121.
When does Melo play tonight?
Okay, so he plays tonight?
All right.
We'll see what happens with that.
Did anybody in the NBA make any political stands last night?
They interlocked arms.
That's what they did.
They interlocked arms.
OK, that's cute.
That's cute. That's what I just told you about.
Yeah, man.
And interlocking arms.
OK.
All right.
All right.
Well, let's talk about your president, I guess, somewhere in that organization.
Well, remember this whole situation with Donald Trump talking about calling up the families of fallen soldiers?
Well, he allegedly told the widow of a U.S. serviceman that was killed in the ambush in Najir that he knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurts.
This guy's crazy.
How do you say something like that?
Sergeant LaDavid Johnson's body was returned home to the Miami area late yesterday.
And there was a water cannon salute for the plane as it arrived near the gate.
Now, Donald Trump called his widow.
And that's when he said, well, I guess he knew what he signed up for.
But I guess it still hurts.
But that's just a lack of sympathy and a lack of empathy.
Come on.
But, I mean, he's right.
You don't say that to somebody.
Yeah, you don't say it, but he's right.
I'm not saying he has a lack of sympathy, he has a lack of empathy, he has a lack of tact. But it's not like mean, he's right. Well, you don't say that to somebody. Yeah, you don't say it, but he's right. I'm saying he has a lack of sympathy.
He has a lack of empathy.
He has a lack of tact.
But it's not like what he said was dishonest.
She said this is something you can say in a conversation,
but you shouldn't say that to a grieving widow.
I agree with that.
Everyone knows when you go to war, you could possibly not come back alive,
but you don't remind a grieving widow of that.
That is so insensitive.
You're right.
I think it's obvious at that point.
You know what I'm saying?
You know what the consequences are, so if something like that does happen,
that's a very obvious thing to say.
It's not very necessary to say it.
You know what he signed up for.
Okay.
Now what else are we going to talk about?
NFL?
Roger Goodell has made a presentation to NFL owners concerning these demonstrations.
Now the owners are asking to consider this presentation
and work with the players as a dialogue about everything continues.
Here's what he had to say.
We spent today talking about the issues
that players have been trying to bring attention to
about issues in our communities to make our communities better.
And I think we all agree there's nothing more important
than trying to give back to our communities
and make our communities better.
That was the entire purpose.
Say what the issues are.
Say the injustice that African Americans are facing at the hands of the police. Say what the issue
is. So it's a group of 11 owners
and more than a dozen players that met. Colin Kaepernick was not
invited to attend those meetings.
Other players did want him present and they asked
that he attend the next meeting because
they do want to talk about all of these issues
and he is open to future
participation on these important discussions.
All right.
That's all we got?
You want some more?
Yeah, we got a little.
No, no.
That's it.
We ain't got no more time.
That's front page news.
Get it off your chest.

Hello, who's this?
This is Kia. Kia, get it off your Hello, who's this? This is Kia.
Kia, get it off your chest, mama.
I just want to get it off my chest.
Today's my daughter's birthday.
I'm feeling blessed.
Hey, how old is she?
Happy birthday today.
I want to say happy birthday, Kalia.
She's 13.
Happy birthday, Kalia.
Oh, you got a teenager.
Go get you an extra gun.
Yes, I got an extra gun, right?
And she's cute.
So she's from East Orange, New Jersey.
All right, well, enjoy it because they grow fast. Yes, thank you so much. All she's from East Orange, New Jersey. All right.
Well, enjoy it because they grow fast.
Yes.
Thank you so much.
All right, mama.
Hello, who's this?
What's going on, Envy?
What's up, man?
Who's this?
That is Trav.
Trav, get it off your chest.
Hey.
Hey, what's up, boo?
How you doing, babe?
Good.
How are you?
I'm doing good, Charlamagne.
How are you?
Hey, sis.
What's happening?
Charlamagne, you hey sis what's happening Charlamagne how are you
I'm mad at the leader of the light skins today DJ Envy are you mad at me what I did because I'm so
tired this is the third time yesterday that you try to act like you don't know what that page is
you know damn well what that page is I don't know I don't know what Backpage was. No, no. Dia got you so shook
that you act like
you don't know
what Backpage is.
That's a fact.
She got me shook,
but I really don't
know what Backpage is.
He lied.
No, Angela Yee
clearly had a front page
news report months ago
about Backpage.
You tried to act like
you didn't know
what it was back then.
She clearly explained
to you what it was.
And then yesterday,
you're going to get on the radio and still act like you don't know what it is. There. He clearly explained to you what it was. And then yesterday, you're going to get on the radio
and still act like you don't know what it is.
There's nobody in this business who does not know what Backpage is.
I don't know.
You know how I used to watch porn?
It's not porn, Envy.
Backpage is not porn.
It's an escort service.
He's still acting like he don't know what it is.
I'm calling an escort service.
Envy.
Yes.
Stop it, Envy.
Goodbye, Trav.
Bye.
You have a good day, sis.
God damn.
How you turn to Trav?
Goodbye, Trav. First of all, a good day, sis. God damn. How you turn to Trav? Goodbye, Trav.
First of all, Trav, I'm leaving.
All right?
I'll turn to the Trav.
Bye, Trav.
First of all, Trav, don't tell me goodbye.
I'm leaving.
Okay.
Hello, who's this?
This is Ralph.
What's up, Ralph?
Why are you so mad?
I don't know.
I've been talking to this girl for like three months.
And like, we were supposed to have dinner one night and she just kind
of like, I never heard from her again.
You sound kind of crazy, Rel. That's why. You gotta have
a little more enthusiasm or something. Did something
happen? I don't know. We were like
talking. Nothing
happened. We just talked. We talked
about Saturday. Did y'all
have sex? No. Yeah, we did.
Okay, you meet little. You meet little and you
head game trash. I wouldn't call you back either.
Okay. Okay, girl. Charlamagne,
love him and leave him.
If I didn't eat it, I wouldn't
have a shower, I guess.
You ate her out? Nah, I didn't.
First of all, that's the problem.
Well, how big is your penis, if you don't
mind me asking? Wow, you guys
do that well on the radio. I never knew that.
But I'm on a nine.
Nine what? Centimeters?
Yeah, nine centimeters if you want to go like that.
How was the sex? Was it good?
It was pretty decent. She squirted enough.
Alright, alright. Nah, she peed on you.
She was so mad that the meat was so little
and the head was so trash, she peed on you.
Wow. Have a blessed day.
Sorry, Lil' Meat Ralph. Peace, bro. Thanks.
Wow, he answered to that.
Yeah, he did.
Get it off your chest.
800-585-1051.
If you're upset, you need to vent, hit us up right now.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
The Breakfast Club.
This is your time to get it off your chest.
Whether you're mad or blessed.
We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club.
So if you got something on your mind, let it out. Hello, who's this?
Hey, this is Diana.
Hey, Diana.
Get it off your chest, mama.
Good morning, y'all.
Okay, President Trump is sickening.
He's really, I'm stressing for no reason.
I don't understand why he stresses me out so much.
But after the call he made to the widow of the fallen soldier,
the black fallen soldier at that,
saying that he knew what he signed up for,
how insensitive and morally
bankrupt can you be? We knew this
already, though. Why, like, well, there's just more
icing on that cake. I know, right? And it's
like, I'm sick of the cake, though. You know,
I don't want that. This cake is disgusting.
Absolutely. Throw it in the trash
and let's start over. You know what I'm saying?
So just listening to that and listening to all the commentators on TV, all the news anchors talking about it.
You know, it's just like there's nothing I can do.
I feel so helpless, you know, dealing with this dude.
And it's like he's ridiculous.
Nah, you can't feel like that, baby.
Because the truth of the matter is, man, I don't care what president is in the White House.
You still have to take control of your life.
Right. Let this inspire you to do great things.
Absolutely.
Aside from having to deal with the president.
Right.
You're right. You're right.
But it still pissed me off.
Regardless, I'm pissed.
Like, I can't.
And, you know, I think he just did it.
I really want to know what he said to the other the other families.
But I really think he said this to the black group.
I don't think he said this.
I don't think he was this insensitive to the white family.
I didn't even know the lady was black.
I didn't know what she was.
Absolutely.
They have pictures of her.
Yeah, she's a black woman.
What's her name?
So the sergeant's name was LaDavid Johnson.
And let me see, what's her name?
I forgot what her name was,
but they have pictures of her leaning over the casket when
he comes in with her little daughter standing beside her.
Oh, wow.
Baby, don't let that crack ass cracker scratch you, okay?
I must firmly believe that God is in control of all.
We just got to focus on each other and keep going.
Thank you for calling, Mama.
Get it off your chest.
800-585-1051.
If you're upset, you need to vent, you can hit us up.
We got rumors on the way.
Let's talk about Blac Chyna.
She is suing the entire Kardashian family.
Let's see if you think that she has any chance of winning this lawsuit.
Also, we have a rest in peace, somebody who just passed away.
All right, we'll get into all that when we come back.
Keep it locked.
This is The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
The Breakfast Club.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God.
We are The Breakfast Club.
Let's get to the rumors.
Let's talk Ricky Rose.
Listen up.
It's just in.
All the gossip.
Gossip.
The rumor report.
Gossip.
With Angela Yee.
It's the rumor report.
The Breakfast Club.
All right.
Well, for some reason, Rick Ross and one of his children's mothers, Tia Kemp, that's his son's mother, got into it on social media.
Now, she had posted, I will reveal everything.
Be ready, bitch.
Don't get uncomfortable now.
Remember, you chose me.
And then she said, you got to watch them N-words who act like they hate they baby mamas.
Whole time they be loving and missing them.
She said, couldn't get you to call your son last month and wish him a happy birthday.
But as soon as you got the call about me appearing on Love & Hip Hop Miami, you hit my phone this morning.
How about you go call Lil Will's orthodontist and pay them people.
His basketball tuition ain't paid yet either.
But you got Birdman eggplant emoji in your mouth.
Don't hit my line unless it's about our son.
Pay them people.
Stop hating.
I'm evolving. Oh, them lawyers's about our son. Pay them people. Stop hating. I'm evolving. Oh, them lawyers
need they money too. Pay them people.
Love and hip-hop, everything, and social
media are the worst platform for disgruntled
baby mamas, by the way. Alright, well,
it didn't get any better after that
because then Rick Ross
went on his social media and this is
how he responded. I gotta thank
my daughter, Toy Mother, for being
you know, a wonderful
example. You know, of course
y'all know she getting her paper, she bought a
business, and of course, my youngest
Hermes' mother. I gotta
thank them two for being
women. That's the only thing a
beautiful woman can't be is a father.
A lot of times, women, you may want
to be a daddy, and it's a difference.
And this ain't no push-pull type games.
Rick Ross got a child named Hermes?
I guess so.
Now, that was his way of taking a shot at her by thanking the other children's mothers, but not her.
Hold on, hold on, hold on.
Rick Ross got a child named Hermes?
Yeah, I guess after the bag line.
No, bro, no, no, no.
We can't do that.
You can't be naming your child after designer brands.
I mean, people got Gucci.
There ain't no child in the real name Gucci.
Gucci Mane got married yesterday.
But that's not his real name, people.
Well, he likes his name.
Nah.
All right.
Well, hold on.
Let's finish.
He did not stop there.
Here's what he had to say next.
But I just got word.
My son's mother, Tia Kemp, she just went on a fake rant.
So she needs some attention, y'all.
So this is what I'm asking everybody to do.
Let's go to her page.
Tia Kemp, let's give her some likes.
I know she may be a little older than you used to going on IG, but let's show her love.
Let's let her know we on her team and we gonna support her.
All right.
And then he goes on to talk about perhaps some issues they might have
because I guess, apparently,
according to Rick Ross,
he slept with her sister.
Here's what he said.
And I see you mentioning everybody,
but Candace, the reason behind all this,
you know, before I met Tia Kemp,
I had relationships with her sister, Candace.
They got in an argument
and Candace told her that,
which was before,
but she never accepted my apology.
But once again, I apologize to you.
I apologize to Mrs. Candace as well.
It's time to move forward
and I wish you the best.
I don't understand why he revealed that information
because that just makes him look bad in the long run
because people will take that
and they run with it and they'll be like,
wow, he slept with your sister.
That don't make you
come out clean in this situation.
I'm in the business.
Ross, you didn't handle that one
the right way. I've seen Ross handle things much better
than he handled that situation right there.
Just a rest in peace to former Project
Runaway finalist Michael Knight. He did
die yesterday morning in a hospital in Georgia.
He had recently checked himself in.
He was getting treatment for intestinal issues.
He had irritable bowel syndrome.
That could kill you?
Well, they're saying it really messed up his immune system.
Really?
So I guess the effects of that, but we don't know if that's why.
It's unclear the cause of his death yet,
but we do know he checked himself in and was having issues with that.
He was only 39 years old.
See, I'm a hypochondriac,
so I hear stuff like that, and I immediately want to go to the doctor. I might have to poop later
and be like, oh, God, I got irritable bowel syndrome.
But, yeah, our condolences
to Michael Knight. What is irritable
bowel syndrome? I guess when
you have problems using the bathroom.
I don't have any problems. I ain't got no problems.
8.30 this morning, y'all know where I be.
Yeah. Okay? In a stall with my pants around my ankles. All kinds of issues. Po problems. I ain't got no problems. 8.30 this morning. Y'all know where I be. Yeah. Okay?
In a stall with my pants around my ankles.
All kinds of issues.
Pooping.
All right.
I'm regular.
We know.
All right.
Well, Angela Yeehan, that is your rumor report.
All right.
This guy's crazy.
When we come back, we got a special guest joining us.
Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Manuel.
Manuel.
Manuel Miranda.
When we come back, it's the Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
That was your Gotti.
Rake it up.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God.
We are the Breakfast Club.
We got a special guest in the building.
Goes by the name of Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Good morning.
Hey, congrats on your first Top 40 hit, Almost Like Fran.
Thank you, sir.
I could only understand three words in the song.
He tried to listen to it earlier, right? And I'm looking at him like he don't know what I was playing. Almost Like Praying. Thank you, sir. I could only understand three words in the song. But congrats.
He tried to listen to it earlier, right?
And I'm looking at him like he don't know what he's listening to.
He didn't know what I was playing.
Welcome to the post-Despacito landscape, my friend.
What does the title mean, Almost Like Praying?
It's actually a sample from West Side Story.
There's a song called Maria in West Side Story.
And he says, say it loud and there's music playing.
Say it soft and it's almost like praying.
So I flipped the sample because, you know, everyone sends thoughts and prayers in the wake of a tragedy.
But prayers aren't enough.
We need food.
We need supplies.
We need water.
Yeah, we need aid.
And so that was the reasoning behind flipping that particular.
Also, it's Hurricane Maria.
So I wanted to flip that, the meaning of that.
And then the lyrics, you don't have to speak Spanish to understand,
but they are the names of the 78 towns in Puerto Rico.
When a Puerto Rican meets another Puerto Rican, they say, where are you from?
And they don't mean Puerto Rico.
They mean what town are you from?
What town are your parents from?
And like in the wake of the hurricane, there was just a few terrible days and weeks of silence
where my Facebook, my Twitter was just this roll call.
Has anyone heard from Isabella?
Has anyone heard from Lares?
And so I wanted to write a lyric that incorporated every town so they don't feel forgotten.
You know, I want people to hear this song and be like, yo, J-Lo sang my town or Marc Anthony sang my town.
Fat Joe's on there.
I think I read that.
Fat Joe was on there.
That's the only voice you knew of.
Yeah.
Pretty much.
Did you always know that you were going to do theater?
Yeah.
And write and compose and act?
You always, like from a young age?
Absolutely.
You know, I grew up on 200th Street off Dykeman.
In the Heights.
In the Heights.
How did a guy from Washington Heights get those visions to do theater?
Yeah, well, my parents were from that age.
They had the cast albums in between Willie Colón and Graham Combo growing up.
So it was a lot of Latin music in my house.
It was a lot of cast albums,
like Man of La Mancha and Camelot.
And then also I'm like a little younger than hip hop.
So, you know, my sister took me to Beat Street
when I was a little kid.
And I remember going to see Disorderly
because the fat boys got...
Disorderly.
There was just never a time
when hip hop wasn't a part of my life.
I was a little too young for crush groove in the theater.
I saw it later when it was
on TV all the time.
Now let me smell your neck. What?
No, because I went on your Twitter this morning.
Wow.
But I saw you say you sprayed your wife's deodorant
on your neck. I did. I made the mistake of getting
dressed before coffee. I'm not used to this early morning DJ life.
We are definitely going to take a picture of that right there.
You into his neck and it look like you.
Okay, that's fine.
Yeah, so instead of grabbing the polo, I grabbed my wife's deodorant.
And so I smell like my wife's armpit all morning.
It's kind of distracting.
Which one do you use?
If you use Dove Vanilla.
You're not supposed to be using Dove at all, Lynn.
I know, I know. It definitely works. Hip hop-hop y'all so what about going to see plays did you go see plays a
lot when you were younger no i was like most kids broadway's expensive we or even just not even on
broadway because you know there's other plays yeah no well the way i got into it was the way i think
a lot of kids got into it was i was i got cast in the school play in sixth grade i got cast in
bye-bye birdie and bye-bye birdie i played Conrad Birdie, who's like the Elvis of the show.
And I was 12 years old and three feet tall.
And my nose grew way ahead of the rest of my face.
I looked like Toucan Sam.
But suddenly I was playing this part where all the women had to faint when I sang.
And I thought, why would anyone do anything else for a living except for this?
And it was like a ton of attention, and I got to sing.
And I feel like I'm still chasing that first applause from Bye Bye Birdie when I was 12.
I've always liked you because you're so in the moment.
There's no room for error.
Absolutely.
You either nail it then or you don't get it.
That's right.
That's right.
No, and that was sort of the amazing thing when I was in Hamilton was all, you know, it was like a roll call of my favorite MCs coming to the show. I remember Busta Rhymes sat in go into woodworking or something else um but then he you
know he he was up and he was with it for the rest of the time and then i remember i remember eminem
sitting in the balcony i'm just seeing this just seeing like that didn't scare you uh yeah i wrapped
i wrapped for my life that night um but you know the first thing he asked me when he came off stage
was what happens when you mess up um and i said i messed up
three times for you today so yeah you just keep going and uh that's the fun of live theater they
tell you ahead of time who's going to be there so you know i like to know some people don't like to
know like uh pippa sue who played my wife i would tell her as we finished bowing like she doesn't
want to know i'd be like do you feel like you did a good show and she'd be like yeah why i'd be like
because barbara streisand and the president are here,
or whoever was there that day.
But I would tell her after.
But I like knowing.
It puts a little pep in my step.
I didn't realize how hard Hamilton tickets was to get.
Oh, my God.
Because somebody gave them to me, and so me and my wife went,
and then when I posted them on Instagram, they were like,
this is how I know you're getting money.
I had to.
They were like, you've got get them like months in advance.
Yeah, indeed, indeed.
You know, for me, it was important that the show is such a love letter to hip hop.
So it was important for me to get all my heroes, get all of those people who were going to get the Biggie references and get the Mobb Deep references.
You know, that's there's as many hip hop references as there are musical theater references. Because I basically lied to myself for a few years.
I just pretended I was writing an album.
Because I didn't want to worry about everyone getting everything the first time.
I still go back to Reasonable Doubt.
I still go back to Capital Punishment.
I still go back to Bizarre Ride.
And hear things I never heard before.
And I wanted to build a Broadway score that had the feel of one of those albums.
One of those hip-hop albums you go back to.
How do you get more arts in the schools, though?
Because it seems like we go away from that type of art, you know?
Yeah, I mean, that's a huge priority.
I had the luxury of a public school education where art and music was next to math and science.
That saved my life in a very real way.
We know that music is the silver bullet when it comes to math and science scores and English.
You know, it connects both hemispheres of the brain.
It's, you have to be good at math to be able to spit.
You have, you know, it's like, it's so important to what we do.
You used to have to be good at math to be able to spit.
You don't have to be good at math now.
Well, now you have to be good at triplets because everyone is spitting in triplets right now.
Everything is...
So that's the cadence of the week.
But yeah, no, absolutely.
I mean, and then when I was growing up in the 90s,
everything was spit mathematics.
And it was...
You had to be smart.
You had to be smart in science.
And now come back around.
Everything is cyclical, I hope.
Like when I heard Keith Murray,
I had to grab a dictionary and a thesaurus.
Like seriously, when he spit on hostile and he was like, yo, medulla, cere hope. When I heard Keith Murray, I had to grab a dictionary and a thesaurus. Seriously, when he
spent on Hot Style and he was like,
Medulla, Cerebrum, and Cerebellum,
you got a crew, you better tell them. I'm like, what the
fuck is he talking about?
Abomatomically, Socrates' philosophies.
High prophecies.
High prophecies.
We got more with Lin-Manuel Miranda
when we come back. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
The Breakfast Club.
Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy Angela Yee.
Charlamagne Tha God.
We are The Breakfast Club.
We have Lin-Manuel Miranda in the building.
Yee.
All right.
Now, let me ask you this.
Being in that Hamilton board, a lot of different people in politics, from different sides of things,
all different types of people that maybe in real life don't really interact or get along with each other.
Was it ever awkward for you to have to maybe meet with somebody after the show who you might not agree with or people that you're like, I really like that person?
Yeah, I mean, that's that comes with it.
We had I mean, what was crazy about Hamilton was like we do the show for three hours.
We're rapping and singing and dancing then you have like another half hour of just like saying hi to folks who can come backstage and then another half hour of the stage door and
signing programs and all that um you know for for me it was uh i never tried to play gotcha in those
moments after the show we've all been through something together like they've all watched the
show and that was actually kind of amazing you You know, I could talk to the Bush daughters about, I would just keep it on some like,
what is it like to know your dad is being judged by history like all the time?
Like presidents and leaders of state, they get graded on a way harsher, deeper curve than we do.
As they should.
As they should, absolutely.
They're playing, you know, with a stroke of their pen, they change people's lives.
They can save them.
They can damage them.
That's why I'm saying why Donald Trump's curve is so low.
Well, but history will judge and God will judge.
And it's interesting.
I always ask leaders about that.
Like when I got to speak to President Obama, I asked him, what does that feel like to know that you're going to be in history books?
And he said it's actually freeing.
For him, it was freeing because he knew I might get bad press today, but my eye is not
on that.
My eye is on the decision that will have ramifications for the future.
And we're seeing that with Obamacare.
We're seeing how hard it is to undo a legacy, and rightfully, you know, that that he put things in place
that hopefully will benefit people for the future.
And, you know, we have a lyric in the show.
History has its eyes on you.
And that swings both good and bad.
You know, when people see people suffering in Puerto Rico and Trump's throwing paper
to towels, history was going to judge that.
That's going to be remembered forever.
So, you know, it's it's know, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
I would never run for political office, but
it is a great responsibility.
But you don't have to, though, because history
is watching you as well. History is watching all of us.
You'll be in the history books as well.
Those are the things that I think about. I think about
when it comes to radio, I think about all the different radio
personalities that we still discuss now.
Absolutely. And I want to be discussed like that in the future.
Remember Rappin' Duke.
The heart, the heart.
Yeah.
Yeah, absolutely.
They're judging you the same way, I think.
Yeah.
Did Hamilton make people go back and watch In the Heights now?
I hope so.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's been amazing.
What happened was there was sort of an explosion of school productions at the show.
And that's been amazing to see.
And it's double-edged for me, right? So there are
schools with black and Latino kids
who get to do the show
and it feels like it's their show.
This is my neighborhood. There's English and Spanish.
There's hip-hop. And then there are productions
that are in all
white school districts where
suddenly these little white kids are waving
Dominican flags and Puerto Rican flags and have to learn Spanish to do
the show.
And I like that too.
Like I like that the culture stretches in this unexpected way and makes
inroads.
So,
you know,
that was a show I started writing that show when I was 19 years old.
We got to Broadway when I was 28.
So it was a lot of work and it was a lot.
Nine years later.
So you wrote that while you were at Wesleyan.
I started, I wrote the first draft at Wesleyan, put it up.
It was an 80-minute one-act at the 92 Theater, which you know well.
Go, Wes.
We went to the same college.
Yeah.
But he went after me.
Yeah.
And so it was really – and it wasn't for a school project.
It wasn't my thesis.
It was just something I really needed to write.
You know, it was – it's interesting.
I was – that was 1999, 2000.
It was right when that first Latin pop boom was happening.
And suddenly the people that I had listened to all my life, like the rest of the country was listening to.
Because they were singing in English.
Like Marc Anthony and Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias.
Pun was happening.
Pitbull Cuban, my bad.
Yeah.
No, yeah, Pitbull.
Mr. Worldwide? Hell yeah yeah Pun was sort of at his peak
And so it was just an amazing time
Jennifer Lopez at that time
Jennifer Lopez, don't be fooled by the rocks that she got
And what was amazing was sort of seeing the rest of the world
Embrace what I'd always grown up but had listened to at home
And so it was also my attempt to bring the culture I'd grown up with into my writing
for the first time.
How did you know it was time to walk away from Hamilton though?
Oh, I always knew I was, I have like a warranty after a year.
My voice will give out, my back will give out.
So I gave myself a year to do it and really proud of that year and that original cast.
But I just knew that uh i you
know i want to write the next thing you know i had the idea for hamilton on my first vacation from
heights so i what that teaches me is the good ideas don't come when you got 50 things to do
the good ideas come when you're like in your dog or like you actually get a breath uh and you get
a second to daydream. So I knew I would need
that if I was going to write the next one.
Why Hamilton though? Like why this
old white guy?
Why Hamilton? Well, because that's always how I
thought of him. I just knew he was the dude on the
ten. And I knew, I wrote a paper on him
in high school. I knew his son died
in a duel and he died in a duel
three years later. And I thought,
how does that happen?
Let history be your guide. Don't go to that duel. You see what happens. And so that's all I knew when I was looking for a book to read on vacation and I saw Ron Chernow's book and it had good
reviews. I didn't know he was born in the Caribbean. He was born in Nevis and grew up in
St. Croix. I mean, his home life and his childhood is so traumatic. And he literally,
I mean, talk about full circle.
There was a hurricane
that destroyed St. Croix.
And he wrote about
how bad it was.
And they used it
for relief efforts.
And people took up a collection
to get him off the island.
They go,
this guy's not going to get
an education on this island.
Let's send him to the mainland
to become a doctor
so he can come back.
And I thought,
that's the most hip-hop thing, that writing about your struggle and your circumstances so well and
so specifically that it becomes universal, that we can see ourselves in Biggie's Juicy, that we can
see ourselves in Eminem's Lose Yourself. The hip hop writers that I really love write about their
struggle so well that they transcend it. And then I had that idea, and that's the second chapter of the book.
And it just kept proving me right.
Like everywhere he got was because of his strength as a writer.
And to me, that's what my favorite MCs do.
And that's both good and bad.
He also wrote about his first affair and destroyed his political career because he thought,
if I explain it, people will forgive me.
And they did not.
I mean, it wasn't 4-4-4.
It wasn't 444.
But it is proto-444.
I mean, it's expressing remorse, but it's also sort of full out, here's what I did.
I was never corrupt with government funds.
I was just bad as a man and a husband and father and blew up his own spot.
I mean, he really did it, you know, and it's, but to me, that's also hip hop to like take
it and just throw it all out there.
You know, 100 bars, no chorus.
That's what the Reynolds pamphlet is.
It's 100 bars, no chorus.
And so that was, once I had that idea, it sort of didn't let go of me.
All right, we got more with Lin-Manuel Miranda.
When we come back, don't move.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Good morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God.
We are The Breakfast Club.
We have Lin-Manuel Miranda in the building.
Yee.
Now, what's next for you after coming off of a huge success like Hamilton?
I'm sure everybody's beating down your door to work with you and do different things.
So what's your next passion project?
Yeah, I mean, for me, honestly, my next passion project is getting the lights on in Puerto Rico.
And I don't really have another thing besides that. Every other stuff, everything else is on hold.
It's raising awareness. It's raising money. The initial slowness of the government's response
meant that we're working at a deficit and we're working as fast as we can and so uh
you know this single is something that almost like praying i wrote that because i was waiting
for word from my family and i needed something to do in addition to tweeting in addition to
raising money so that's where the title comes from like yeah therapeutic almost yeah absolutely and
and they uh and and so so that's that's the full-time gig i mean hamilton is opening in
london and there's there's now three productions in the States,
and those are all going great.
But personally, my time's on Puerto Rico until there's a sense of normalcy there.
The song that you made, now, was there anybody that you wanted on the song that you couldn't get,
it wasn't enough time, or?
Anybody you found out wasn't really Puerto Rican?
No.
You know, what was amazing was, you know, even the people I reached out to who couldn't do it, it's because they were already working so hard for Puerto Rico.
So Daddy Yankee said, whatever you want.
But Daddy Yankee was literally flying relief planes to the island.
So I couldn't get him on the weekend I was recording.
But hopefully there's time for a remix with him.
You know, Ricky Martin, again, reached out to him, but he was flying supplies to and from the island.
So, you know, everyone has been so amazing and supportive.
And these artists were incredible.
I mean, you know, I flew to L.A., I flew to Miami.
This all happened within a week of writing the tune.
And everyone just moved mountains to get in the studio and make this happen.
21 artists, 22 including me.
You know, Fat Joe has always also, you know, flying,
has been flying stuff to and from the island.
Everyone is, the mobilization of our people has been really incredible.
So I was grateful they made the time to get in the studio to spit four bars or eight bars or whatever we needed.
So it's safe to say you haven't been pleased with the American government's response to Puerto Rico.
No, but I've been pleased with the response of the American people.
That's been the kind of incredible thing.
You know, you go to my Twitter feed,
you will see kids doing toy drives and breaking their piggy banks. You will see, you know, companies stepping up in a big way.
People taking their own initiatives
when the government's not doing what they're supposed to do.
Absolutely.
You know, I just got up.
Just before I got here, I was talking to Chef Jose Andres.
Go watch his Twitter feed. He's got 75 chefs. He's gone to every town faster than the government has. He's been feeding people. He's feeding thousands and thousands of people with chefs just making meals happen as quickly and cheaply as possible all over the island.
People make time for what they want to make time for. And I mean, when you see the American people responding faster than the government and let you know,
maybe the government
just doesn't have time.
They don't care enough.
And what's frustrating,
of course,
is, you know,
of course we send aid to Texas.
Those are our brothers and sisters.
Of course we send aid to Florida.
Those are our brothers and sisters.
The challenges are even greater
in Puerto Rico
because it's an island
and you can't just drive stuff down.
But that means we need to be more prepared.
That means we need to send more troops.
It means, you know, when their infrastructure is so delicate, even before the storm, it means they need more help.
So it's been frustrating not to get that.
Are you surprised at all this Harvey Weinstein people coming forward?
Women saying that, you know, everybody gets Weinstein in the business at some point.
Every woman has somebody try her.
And so many people are coming forward and telling their stories.
Had you heard a lot of stories about women saying that they were?
I hadn't.
Listen, I'm a relative newbie to Hollywood.
Harvey was never going to win any nice guy competitions.
I'd heard legendary stories of him screaming at assistants
and just screaming at people and just generally being a terror.
I had never heard any of the other stuff, and it's horrific.
It's really horrific.
I'm glad it's coming forward.
I'm glad it's sort of creating this ripple effect of this is unacceptable.
This is unacceptable to use your power in this way.
But you're not glad that the Weinstein Company
owns the rights to In the Heights?
No, and we're trying to sort of make that happen
as quickly as possible.
You know, Kiara, who is my co-writer on In the Heights,
has been writing this amazing screenplay.
And so we're trying to find the best way
to make that happen somewhere else.
But even if they get rid of Harvey,
like if they get rid of Harvey
and they change the name
and Harvey sells his shares in the company,
you wouldn't stay with them?
Well, I mean, this happened for many years.
And this doesn't happen alone.
I mean, the stories we're hearing
that are so terrifying
because, you know, you try to be safe and you try to be smart.
And yet you're hearing stories of people going into a room and then suddenly the room empties out and you're alone with him.
That's the most horrific, nightmarish thing you can imagine.
So there is, you know, there's just this, you want to be divorced from the entire process and the entire culture that allowed that to perpetuate.
Right, I would think those extenuating circumstances, they should let you take a screenplay back.
It seems like that's just the Hollywood way.
You hear Terry Crews talking about executives.
The Terry Crews story was incredible.
That's what I'm saying.
Anywhere you go seems like the lesser of two evils.
I read a tweet that was so amazing.
Imagine the level of privilege to grab Terry Crews and know you're going to get away with it.
Yeah, Terry Crews.
I mean.
You start off with the 6'6", 250-pound black guy.
I mean.
You don't even start off with somebody small.
Like the platonic ideal of a man.
Yes, exactly.
Do you know what I mean?
Like that dude is carved from marble.
That dude is so, he's so smart and he's so incredible and so like such a leader.
And to disrespect him like that
and know you're going to get away with it.
I can't begin to wrap my head around that level of privilege.
And that's like all those people saying,
why didn't those women say something before?
Terry Crews didn't say anything before.
That's how intimidating it is for people to feel like,
well, am I going to get more work in this business?
Will people believe me?
People who did speak up, people who didn't believe them
or just said, oh, that's just what it is.
Brush it under the rug.
And it was brave of him
to tell a story and it's great that people are
making noise and making their stories heard.
I love how you're repping this morning. You got a big
pun hoodie on and a Washington
Heights hat. You are
repping. I'm trying.
You might as well go do Desus and Marilyn right now.
Keep it all the way
Bronx. His hat says Uptown all day
every day. Final Final questions I promise
Big point of Biggie
It's tough neither of them had enough time
Biggie for variety of flow
Storytelling is untouchable
But for multisyllabic
My hero is pun
It's you know dead in the middle of
Little did we know
One of my favorite verses
Is on a Don Carter album,
and it's on The Hidden Hand.
He goes,
My tomb was cold as ice, so I know I'm shite.
Big pun was the kid that no one liked.
My whole life was one big roll of the dice.
Paying the price twice as expensive as white kids destined for Reich
is not knowing my existence was priceless.
It's like this.
My tomb was lifeless.
I earned stripes fighting the nicest in the crisis to slice
them in half, make them dash like hyphens
inviting any rapper to clash with the
titan. My writing's like fighting cause rappers
be biting like Tyson. I'm hyping the crowd
getting them loud. My label, I'm
proud. I'm able to live from the bowels
of the ghetto. What found me a little sanity
is out of career and a family.
I mean, it's just
so soulful.
So I could quote pun,
because I think pun is unappreciated as a storyteller.
But Biggie is who I go to all the time.
If you listen to Hamilton,
you're hearing at least six Biggie references in there.
And I was grateful to the Wallace family
for letting me sort of quote those
and participate in that.
No, no.
You know, it's interesting.
I didn't have to pay for any of those samples, but I wanted to because I wanted the kid for whom Hamilton is their first show to go, oh, who is this that's on the credit contains a sample from and then go listen to those tracks.
So it was important to me to have those footnotes in bibliography and show my work so that people could then go deep dive on the artist I was drawing inspiration from.
Well, final one.
New edition or Menudo?
Why are you making fights in the culture?
Can we be united?
Puerto Rico needs our help.
You're trying to make me choose Menudo all day, every day.
Menudo.
Menudo.
Girl, watch out. Menudo it down. Menudo it down.
Girl, watch out.
My goodness.
All right.
There you have it.
Emmanuel Miranda, a.k.a. Mr. Menudo.
Salute to you, Emmanuel, man.
Mr. Breakfast Club, good morning.
Richie, forever.
The Breakfast Club.
This is the Rumor Report with Angela Yee.
Rumor has it Angela Yee.
Well, Nicki Minaj had sat down with XXL.
She was talking about her role in hip-hop.
And for some reason, there were some headlines in there saying that Nicki Minaj says that she made female rappers mainstream. Now, this all came from an interview.
Well, not an interview.
This all came from Wendy Williams.
Here's what Wendy Williams said on her show.
Nicki Minaj is crediting herself for making female rap mainstream.
Well, now, haters, you might not like her,
but she said mainstream, as in you go into Kmart and there's her clothing.
You turn on pop music stations
and there's, you know, her music.
Now, the problem with this is that Nicki Minaj never
said that. Yeah, the problem is Nicki Minaj never said
that, but Wendy is old enough to know that Queen
Latifah made female rap mainstream.
Missy Elliott. Eve, Missy.
Alright, well, Nicki says all of that. Here's
what she had to say in response.
My role in hip-hop has been super unique
because when my first album came out,
there had been so much time
where there wasn't a female rap album out
that went platinum.
There wasn't a big female rap presence
right before I got in.
So my role was reintroducing the female rapper
to pop culture.
She's right. There's no lie told.
Okay, so Nicki Minaj posted that video and she said,
I see people remixing my words, so let me post exactly what I said for the intelligent ones in the back.
Now, if you can find the part where I said I made female rappers mainstream, I'll give you $100,000.
Blogs and TV shows don't care to do actual research these days.
They only care about what grabs your attention.
She said Lauren sold 10 million
off one album. Eve had platinum
singles
with Alicia Gwen Stefani, her own TV show
on Clothing Line. It doesn't get more mainstream pop
than Missy's biggest singles. Foxy and Kim
had platinum albums and shaped the sound of
New York female rappers. Latifah had her own sitcom.
Trina was on Billboard with hits, etc.
Yeah, a little Kimmel's mainstream, but
I understand what Nicki's saying, though. Nicki did not
make female rap mainstream overall,
but she did reintroduce female
rap to the mainstream in this era.
Right, she said, so I reintroduced the
successful female rapper back to
pop culture. Show big business.
We were major players in the game, just like the boys
were. No lie told. So she
just wanted to clear that up because the headline was,
she said she made female rap mainstream.
No, that's not accurate.
All right.
Well, Gucci Mane and Keisha K.R. got married last night on BET.
Oh, man, I enjoyed it.
It's going to be a 10-episode series,
and it's going to now flash back to them planning their wedding.
Here they are doing their vows.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great delight that I present to you their wedding. Here they are doing their vows.
Ladies and gentlemen,
it is with great delight that I present to you for the very first time
Mr. and Mrs.
Radric Davis.
You may kiss the bride.
Well, that was kissing the bride, I guess.
Yeah. They had one line in the
vows I thought was real dope. Is his name Radric or Radric?
I thought it was Radric too, but they kept saying Radrick last night,
so I'm going to go with Radrick.
But there was this one line where they was like,
and all other women are irrelevant to you.
And then I think she had to say all other men are irrelevant to you.
I was like, that's dope.
All right, well, check it out.
Here's some more from the main events.
Keisha, my love.
Keisha, my love.
I give you this ring.
I give you this ring as a symbol of the vows, as a symbol of the vows that we are making today.
May it forever be a sign of my commitment to your heart and to our marriage forever.
I can't wait to get married again.
I really do plan on...
Oh, you're having another...
Yes, I plan on having another... I was like, really do plan on. Oh, you're having another. Okay.
Yes, I plan on having another.
I was like, what's going on here?
Renewing vows.
Yes, in about 10 years, I plan on renewing my vows.
Because that, just watching that special last night, it just brings back all those emotions you had when you're standing up there as a groom.
And your bride is walking down the aisle.
Like, I'm looking in Gucci's face.
I know he wanted to cry.
Because I wanted to cry.
Are you going to do yours on TV?
No.
Absolutely not.
Y'all know I don't move like that.
All right. Well, this wedding costs $1.7 million.
Really? Just in case you were wondering.
Oh, drop one of Clues Bombs for BET for
fitting that. Do you think BET pays for that?
Yeah, that's why they did the whole
docuseries because the wedding got paid for.
I like everything BET
is doing right now. They're doing a lot of culturally relevant
programming. Alright, and speaking of weddings,
Toni Braxton and Birdman secretly
got married, according to Jasmine
Brand. Yes, they're saying that they
wanted to keep the nuptials as down low
as possible. Ah, Tony don't want nobody to know.
They're trying to keep it a secret, just like their
relationship. They tried for as long as they could to deny
that they were actually together. Now,
allegedly, they've already been married for about two
months so far.
Wow. Alright. All right.
You got money to pay for a wedding, Birdman, but you can't pay Wayne his money?
Maybe they didn't pay for a wedding.
Maybe they just went to City Hall.
City Hall and got it done.
You're right.
I doubt they went to City Hall.
That's another reason to keep it a secret.
If you owe a bunch of people money, I keep my wedding a secret, too.
You know what I'm saying?
I ain't got no money to pay for no wedding.
All right.
Well, I'm Angela Yee, and that is your rumor report.
All right.
Thank you, Miss Yee.
Yes.
Charlamagne.
Yes.
We give me a donkey, too?
Oh, my God.
We need Veronica Green Posey to come to the front of the congregation.
It's going to take her a while because she weighs 325 pounds.
Oh, my goodness.
All right, you don't know who this woman is, but she's from Florida.
And what does your Uncle Charla tell you all the time?
The craziest people in America come from the Bronx and all of Florida.
Donkey the day before after the hour.
All right.
When we come back, keep it locked.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Charlamagne, say the gang.
Donkey of the Day.
Charlamagne.
You are a donkey.
It's time for Donkey of the Day.
Donkey of the Day does not discriminate.
I might not have the song of the day, but I got the donkey of the day.
So if you ever feel I need to be a donkey, man, hit me with the beat. It's The Breakfast Club, bitches. Who's Donkey of the day where I got the donkey. So if you ever feel I need to be a donkey man, hit me with the heat.
It's a breakfast club, bitches.
Who's donkey of the day today?
Well, Ed Sheeran,
donkey of the day
for Wednesday, October 18th
goes to a 64-year-old
Florida woman
named Veronica Green Posey.
Now, what does your uncle
Charlotte tell you all the time?
I tell you that the craziest
people in all of America
come from the Bronx and all of Florida.
And Veronica Posey is no exception.
See, this fat Floridian who weighed in at 325 pounds
has been charged with homicide and cruelty toward a child.
Homicide.
Homicide.
What did I say?
Homicide.
It's homicide.
Homicide.
Homicide and cruelty toward a child.
Now, why did a child die at Big Mama's house?
Well, let's go to the Viva News, courtesy of the USA Today, to find out.
A child died in Florida after her 325-pound cousin sat on her for over 10 minutes as a form of punishment.
USA Today reports 64-year-old Veronica Green Posey has been charged with homicide and cruelty toward the child.
The crime occurred on the 300 block of Bryant Road in Pensacola, Florida, at the home of Grace Joan Smith and James Edmund Smith,
the child's parents. They had apparently called Posey over to help discipline the child. An arrest
report states that Posey allegedly sat on Smith's daughter for 10 minutes before she said she
couldn't breathe. After which, Posey continued to sit on her for another two minutes before
standing up and finding the child unresponsive.
As of Monday, both James and Grace Smith remain in jail, while Posey's bond was set at $125,000 and was released.
Now where do I begin?
Oh my goodness.
Am I mad at Veronica for sitting on the child, or am I mad at her for weighing 325 pounds?
Okay, I just answered my question. I'm mad at both those things.
See, hurt people hurt people. She's 64 years old and weighed 325 pounds. Okay, I just answered my question. I'm mad at both those things. See, hurt people hurt people.
She's 64 years old and weighed 325 pounds.
She stopped caring about life a long time ago.
Okay, I don't care what you say.
When you have let yourself go to the tune of 325 pounds, you don't love yourself.
So it's impossible for you to love somebody else.
That's why it was so easy for her lord ass to put all 325 pounds on top of that poor nine-year-old girl.
The fact that Veronica Posey
had the nerve, the unmitigated
gall to say she sat on this young girl
Derricka as a discipline
for being out of control.
Listen here, Blubber. Don't talk to me
about discipline. Discipline people
don't weigh 325 pounds, okay?
Veronica, your body mass index
indicates that you have never shown
discipline at the Waffle House. You've
never shown discipline at Chick-fil-A.
There is not a golden corral on the East Coast
that you have shown discipline in, but
you have the nerve to punish someone for being
out of control. Your eating habits are out
of control. Your blood pressure is out
of control. Your diabetes is probably out
of control. Your gout out of control.
Your breathing problems and sleep apnea are out of control. And what probably out of control. Your gout out of control. Your breathing problems and sleep apnea
are out of control.
And what about these lame-ass parents,
Grace Jones Smith and James
Edmund Smith, who don't know how to discipline
their own kids for whatever reason?
What's wrong with they hands? Huh? You don't know how to pop
your own damn kids? No belts in the house?
No wooden spoons? They tearing all the
trees down, so it's hard to get a switch nowadays.
But I'm sure you could have found other ways
to discipline a nine-year-old than calling
over a big punisher to punish your seed.
Okay? Not to mention in the police
report, the so-called mom,
Grace Smith, said that Veronica used a
ruler and a metal
pipe to punish the young girl at first.
Okay? But I guess none of that was
working, so Veronica Posey decided to
weaponize her weight,
which ultimately led to this nine-year-old girl,
Derricka Lindsey, to be killed.
I promise you when I heard this story, I was crushed.
Not as crushed as the victim Derricka was
because of Veronica Posey's portliness,
but it hurt my spirit because this nine-year-old never had a chance.
I have a nine-year-old, so I'm sitting here thinking,
it's adults out here who would absolutely do harm to my baby. How can a 64-year-old woman had a chance. I have a nine-year-old, so I'm sitting here thinking, it's adults out here who would absolutely do harm to my baby.
How can a 64-year-old woman do this to a kid?
And how can the parents, Grace Smith and James Smith,
sit around and allow it to happen?
The same way your daughter had the weight of Veronica Posey on top of her,
which ultimately killed her,
you too will be weighed down by the guilt of knowing that you are accessories
to your daughter's murder,
and that will ultimately kill you two.
God bless the soul of Derricka Lindsay.
May she rest in peace.
She was pronounced dead on Saturday, and the cause of her demise was death by fat bitch.
Please give Veronica Posey the biggest hee-haw, please.
That's crazy.
I've never heard
nothing like that.
Terrible.
Tragic story.
I've never heard of it. Play the news report.
Just the first part of it. Listen to how it sounds in the beginning.
Oh my goodness. A child died
in Florida after her 325
pound cousin sat on her for over
10 minutes. Stop. That's all you need to hear
right there. That is crazy. Come on, man.
Come on, man.
Disgusting. When did they think that was gonna be
a good idea? Sad, tragic story.
I don't know. And this is
after hitting her with a ruler,
which is fine, with a metal pipe.
Come on, that's cruel and unusual punishment.
Poor baby. The worst I ever got beat with was
an extension cord. Then I was forced to go
take a bath. I mean, that's a Wu-Tang
torture tactic, too. But come on, a metal pipe
to a nine-year-old? Come on, man.
You sat on her for 10... Oh, my goodness.
325 pounds. And the parents
allowed this? 325 pounds. They wanted
this punishment. They wanted punishment
courtesy of Big Punisher. 325 pounds.
Oh, my goodness. All right. Well, thank you for that
donkey today. Yes. Well-deserved.
Up next, Ask Yee.
800-585-1051.
If you got a question for Yee, you need relationship advice, call Yee right now.
800-585-1051.
She'll help you with all your problems.
Call her now.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
The Breakfast Club.
Good morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God.
We are The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Who's this? Yo, what's good, Breakfast Club? It's Jordan. Hey, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Who's this?
Yo, what's good, Breakfast Club?
It's Jordan.
Hey, Jordan.
Jordan from Jersey, man.
What's your question for Yee, bro?
Yee, my girl.
We've been together for three years.
She went away to school, right?
She's like an hour away now.
So she come back, visit, like, you know, every other week,
ask some s***.
No question, bro.
I'm sorry. My bad.
My bad. But, um, I don't... It's a trust thing.
She takes forever to answer.
She's always at her girlfriend's house.
They live off campus.
And she always takes forever to answer.
And when she comes back... What do you mean, takes forever
to answer? Like, she doesn't answer and then
calls you back? Or what?
I don't understand. No, like, she says she's always got homework.
Always.
Well, she's in school.
Nah, I know that.
But, like, you could text me, say that you got homework.
But she says it after.
And I'm like, yo, just FaceTime me.
Say what's up.
All right, I'll talk to you a little bit, you know, while you're doing your homework.
And that's it.
Right.
But nah, not even that.
So, but you talk to her every day?
Yeah, we talk every day.
But you just need more attention?
It's not as, but when she comes back, I'm like, yo, when she goes to the bathroom, she
gotta take her phone everywhere with her.
Okay, so your instinct is telling you there's something going on.
This is her first time away at school?
Yeah.
In your relationship?
So, I'm sure she's having a good time and it is difficult when you're doing a long-distance relationship.
And how old are you guys?
Oh, I'm 20.
You guys are still pretty young.
So it could be a couple of different things.
It could be that she's not used to being away,
so she's having a good time with her friends
and doesn't feel like being on the phone.
Or it could be that she really is dating somebody else,
especially if she's taking her phone in the bathroom with her
and doing all of that. There's something that she really is dating somebody else, especially if she's taking her phone in the bathroom with her and doing all of that.
There's something that she doesn't want you to see.
And you could tell a lot about a relationship
by how somebody treats their phone.
Yeah.
Like, does she answer the phone all the time
when it rings when she's with you?
Uh, no.
Like, she'll decline it.
Damn.
All right.
But it's her girlfriend, though, calling her, though.
Or it's a guy with a girlfriend's name.
Yeah, yeah, with a different name. I feel you. Damn, bro. Yeah, so, I her, though. Or it's a guy with a girlfriend's name. Yeah, yeah, with a different name.
I feel you.
Damn, bro.
Yeah, so, I mean, I feel like in your head, what is your brain telling you?
I mean, it's just, I just, like, I don't think that, I think that's just not cool when you
gotta, like, be overprotective with your phone.
Because I'm open with my phone.
She can go through my phone.
It's whatever.
I don't care.
All right, besides just the phone, though, in your head, what are you saying? Logically
speaking, everything that's been going on,
the relationship feels different.
She's acting different. You can't reach her
all the time. She's not answering the phone when she's
around you. She's taking her phone in the bathroom with her.
Yeah, I mean,
it's just... Yes.
Don't you cry.
Don't you cry.
I'm not about to cry.
He just got a shaky voice. I'm caught off guard. Don't you cry. No, I'm not about to cry. It's just like...
He's just got a shaky voice.
No, I'm caught off guard
because it happens so quick.
Right.
I mean, look, she's away at school.
It's a brand new situation for her.
She's around all brand new people.
She's got her freedom.
That's true.
You know, and...
But she should be honest with you.
Mm-hmm.
And you should be like, listen...
That's the main thing.
I tell her that.
I'm like, yo, if you're doing something,
just let me know. That way I can move on. And you should be like, listen. That's the main thing. I tell her that. I'm like, yo, if you're doing something, just let me know.
That way I can move on.
You can do what you gotta do.
Don't just drag me with you.
Right.
But I guess I'm gonna
have to take the phone
one night.
That's it.
Well, damn.
I wouldn't say all that,
but all right.
But once you start feeling
like you gotta do all that,
it's pretty much over.
Yeah, I feel you.
Thank you, guys.
Okay, you're welcome.
I feel bad.
Have a good one.
All right. He's definitely gonna cry when. Have a good one. All right.
He's definitely going to cry when he gets off the phone.
All right.
Ask Yee.
800-585-1051.
If you need relationship advice, call Yee now.
It's the Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
That was Kendrick Lamar with Loyalty, Loyalty, Loyalty.
We're in the middle of Ask Yee.
800-585-1051.
Hello?
Hello.
Hey, Miriam.
How are you?
I'm good.
How you doing? I'm good.
What's good? What's the problem? Okay, so
I recently got married like earlier
this year, right? And
like I feel like it's a hit or miss
every time I have sex with my husband.
It's like good sometimes, but it's
not always great.
And I don't know what to say.
Like I don't know how to tell him.
Okay, so tell me when it's not great.
What are the reasons that it's not great?
I don't know.
It's just whack.
Like, you know, when it's just not hitting right.
Like, it's just not.
Like the rhythm is off?
The rhythm is off.
And it's just, you know, like, when you know what to do, just know your body.
And it's just, he don't.
Do you instruct him on things that you like?
I do. And, you know, sometimes he try to deliver. And sometimes he do good. just know your body and it just he don't do you instruct him on things that you like i do and you
know sometimes he try to deliver and sometimes he do good but it's like i guess he forget and i don't
know how because like i mean i feel like we have sex often enough but sometimes it's hard for me to
just be like okay well we could have sex some more because like because it's so uncomfortable or it's so unenjoyable for me
that I don't want to do it you gotta tell me Miriam what's like explain to me what's so
uncomfortable like what's so bad is it that he's quick is it that he's not making you orgasm is it
that he's not affectionate enough is it that there's no foreplay like what is it that's missing
because sometimes it is good the foreplay is great like let me tell you the foreplay, like what is it that's missing? Because sometimes it is good. The foreplay is great.
Like, let me tell you, the foreplay is great.
But the problem that I have is just like, how can I explain?
Like when he's stroking, it's like off beat or something.
Right.
He ain't got the rhythm.
Yeah, he don't.
Why don't you get on top?
I do.
But like sometimes I get tired. My thighs be burning. Miriam, why don't you get on top? I do. But, like, sometimes I get tired.
My thighs be burning.
Miriam, you know when you get on top,
you know how to make yourself orgasm.
I do.
Sometimes, listen, it is what it is.
Sometimes if you feel like his rhythm is off,
you got to change positions.
I could do that, but then that means
I'm always going to have to be on top.
But you said sometimes he's good, right?
Yeah.
So at the times when it's not stroking
and he's not hittingking and he's not hitting
right and he's a little off beat maybe you need to just change positions you're right but then like
how would i know like if it's gonna be like a hit or miss you don't know but when it starts and it's
not happening right and you're not feeling it then you got to switch some things up maybe that means
you stop for a minute and do some more foreplay because he's so good at that once he starts
stroking and it's off beat be like hey why hey, why don't you get back down there?
You know, there's other ways that people could please you. If his stroke ain't right, you got to sometimes
direct him. And I think it's important to be vocal in the bedroom, too. Like when something
is going really well, encourage it so he knows you love it. So he keeps on doing that.
OK, I could do that, but it's not going to hurt his feelings, you don't think? No, no.
You got to do it in a positive way. Like when it's going really well, be like, oh, I like when you do that, but it's not going to hurt his feelings, you don't think? No. No, you got to do it in a positive way.
Like, when it's going really well, be like, oh, I like when you do that.
Or if he's not doing something right, tell him what you do like, because then that's still positive.
You got to make it, like, fun, make it positive.
You can't just be miserable, because then that probably throw the whole vibe off, too.
Okay, I could try that.
Yeah, you got to start talking dirty and telling him what you like and making that part of sex.
Okay, thank you, Yee.
All right, Miriam.
All right.
Ask Yee.
800-585-1051.
If you got a question for Yee, you could call her.
Now we got rumors on the way?
Yes.
We're going to talk about Black China.
She is suing the entire Kardashian family.
Will this lawsuit get her any cash?
All right.
We'll get into that when we come back.
Keep it locked.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club. All right. We'll get into that when we come back. Keep it locked. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody.
It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God.
We are The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Happy Wednesday.
You know, today is National Chocolate Cupcake Day.
Today's also National Beer Day or something, right? No, no, no, no.
Let's go back to me.
All right.
Why has nobody addressed me properly in this room?
As a cupcake?
As a cupcake?
Yes, a chocolate cupcake.
All right.
Today's National Chocolate Cupcake Day. You are? Yes, a chocolate cupcake. All right. National chocolate cupcake.
You are our cupcake.
Say chocolate cupcake.
Say it.
Chocolate cupcake.
Exactly.
You know how the Secret Service
has nicknames for the president.
Y'all need to have a nickname for me
and I want it to be chocolate cupcake.
I feel a little awkward sometimes
with the two of you
with the chemistry.
What?
What?
You know what?
You know what?
I'm going to say this.
Say it, Steve.
Yes.
Our camera guy from Revolt.
How you doing, chocolate cupcake?
There you go.
Drop on the clues bomb.
Are you Italian?
How does that cream taste?
He said, how does that cream taste?
I don't think chocolate cupcakes have cream in the middle.
Yes, they do.
Have you ever had a hostess chocolate cream cupcake?
Hostess got the cream in the middle?
This is getting awkward.
Do you want some white cream in your cupcake, he said?
Listen, I just want to be respectful for the chocolate cupcake that I am.
All right, can I do my rumor report?
All right, let's get, I don't even know what we're talking about.
Let's just get to the rumors.
It's about time.
What's going on?
Rumor report, rumor report.
This is the rumor report.
With Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club.
Well, the Soul Train Awards are coming up
and Solange is the most nominated artist.
She actually has seven nominations,
so congratulations to her.
Drop on the Clues Bar for Solange.
For Best New Artist, who should win?
Black, her, Kevin Ross, Khalid, or SZA?
Who's her? That's a group?
It's a one woman.
Black or SZA?
Yeah, I would give it
to SZA too.
All right, well.
Also, video of the year,
Beyonce all night,
Bruno Mars,
24 Karat Magic,
Chris Brown featuring
Usher and Gucci Party,
Khaled,
Wild Thoughts,
or Solange,
Cranes in the Sky
for video of the year.
Who would you give it to?
I haven't seen
any of those videos.
Dang, you don't watch videos?
Where would I watch videos?
Revolt?
Yes.
Oh.
There's no cupcake emoji.
I'm sorry.
Yes, there is.
All right.
Now let's discuss Aisha Curry.
She was on The Real, and she talked about Steph Curry having a foot fetish.
Here's what she said.
My husband really loves my feet.
What?
I love that.
And so, like, the light was hitting him just right that day.
And so I was like, let me just snap this photo and send a picture of my feet.
So I always say, like, when he says to send nudes, like, that's what he's getting, a picture of my bare feet.
Drop one of Clue's moms with Steph Curry.
And the pointy of your queen from her head to her feet.
Well, former porn star Mia Khalifa then went ahead and sent a picture of her feet on social media and put sup at Steph Curry 30.
See what I'm saying? Aisha, you gotta catch her feet on sight.
Aisha, you got cousins, you got
sisters, you gonna jump her.
Disrespectful.
Chris Brown.
Yeah, no, that is disrespectful.
That is disrespectful, man. Come on, man.
Alright, now Chris Brown has put out the
track list for his new album
Heartbreak on a Full Moon, and it's 45 songs.
Mm-mm.
Why you sitting there?
That's a lot of music.
That's a lot of songs.
He does record a lot.
I ain't got that kind of time.
I mean, if you're a huge Chris Brown fan, though, that's pretty exciting, right?
That's overkill.
Young Thugs-On-Their, Future, Ty Dolla $ign, Yo Gotti, Lil Yachty, Kodak Black.
R. Kelly is on the album, by the way.
Chris Brown knows we live in the ADD era.
Ain't nobody got time to listen to no 45 records.
I don't even think people can really appreciate that whole body of work when it's 45 songs.
Oh my God, Burt Simmons is on here also.
Okay.
All right.
Cardi B, congratulations to her.
She has just signed a brand new publishing deal.
She signed with Sony ATV Music Publishing.
And Jennifer Drake is the senior director of A&R there.
I actually was just on a panel with her at the A3C
Festival, and she was telling me
about signing Cardi, and she said she listened to her
Breakfast Club interviews before she
signed her, and a lot of artists that she signs
the publishing deals, she listens to the Breakfast Club
in order to get as much information
as possible. She always listens, so
shout out to Jennifer Drake, who actually did that deal.
Well, where's all 5% artists?
I actually got a couple M's for that, too. Drop one of the clues
behind for Cardi B. Oh, you know she definitely got a couple M's
for a publishing deal, especially being that she
had the number one song for three weeks in a row.
Okay, so God bless Cardi B.
Congratulations to Cardi B. Now, Blac Chyna
is suing the entire Kardashian
family. She said that they cost
her major money because they blocked
her from doing her reality show, Rob
and Chyna, for a second season.
Now, according to this lawsuit, the Kardashians used
their power and influence over the E! Network
to kill the second season.
Now, I thought it was her and Rob Kardashian
breaking up that killed the season. How about low ratings?
And she also accused him of beating her up
and all different kinds of things. How about low ratings?
So why would you even want to do
a second season? But yes, apparently
E! was unhappy with the low ratings of that show.
Listen, if that show had decent ratings or high ratings,
they absolutely would have bought it back with all the drama that they got going on.
The show had low ratings.
That's why it didn't come back.
Right.
That's a waste of a lawsuit.
Did you ever watch that show?
No.
Nope.
Absolutely not.
I have not kept up with the Kardashians since the first season of their show, season three.
All right.
And the other story is with Blac Chyna versus Rob Kardashian.
Now she has accused him of beating her up.
On his side of things, though, the sources are saying the real story is that she was using coke and drinking alcohol from morning till night the day that this happened.
What's the problem?
They went to a strip club.
She bought a stripper home to come be with them.
She partied with that stripper all night long, did more coke, continued that binge.
And then in the morning when Rob confronted her and called her irresponsible,
she went ballistic and started hitting him, throwing things at him, and berating him.
He says he only defended himself and never actually struck her at all.
Black China, you stand in front of that judge and you tell that judge,
look, dealing with the Kardashians will drive you to drink and do coke.
The judge will agree with you. All right, well, I'm Angela Yee will drive you to drink and do coke. The judge will agree with you.
All right, well, I'm Angela Yee, and that is your Rumor Reports.
And just to fill you in, I tried to be petty and put mad cupcakes in Charlemagne's Instagram page.
Why? Because today is National Chocolate Cupcake Day?
Yeah, but there's not a cupcake emoji anymore.
I don't believe that.
There has to be.
There's no way.
I'm trying to be petty, and I can't even be petty. There's no cupcake emoji anymore? I don't believe it. There has to be. There's no way. I'm looking.
I'm trying to be petty and I can't even be petty.
There's no cupcake emoji anymore.
That's not petty.
You're just, you know,
paying homage
to the chocolate cupcake
of the show.
Go look at this.
Well, if you could find
a cupcake emoji,
just put it in Charlamagne's box.
Drop on the clue box.
Wow.
Charlamagne has a box.
It's a national chocolate cupcake.
His little bad boy box.
Envy just mad
it's not a national yellow cake day.
I'm sure there is.
And when I find out what day it is, we're definitely going to recognize.
Yellow all day.
First of all.
All right.
Yellow all day.
All right.
Let me look for this.
All right.
Revolt, we'll see you tomorrow.
Everybody else, The People's Choice mixes up next.
It's The Breakfast Club.
Good morning.
Had enough of this country?
Ever dreamt about starting your own?
I planted the flag. This is mine.
I own this. It's surprisingly
easy. 55 gallons of water,
500 pounds of concrete. Or maybe
not. No country
willingly gives up their territory.
Oh my God. What is that? Bullets.
