Starting point is 00:02:40 Real people. Real celebrities. Real talk. Join the Breakfast Club. Blast off in your ear. Weekday morning, 6 to 10. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
Starting point is 00:02:50 We are the Breakfast Club. Special guest in the building with us this morning. Rich Homie Kwan. Rich Homie Kwan. Yeah, man. What's up, son? Y'all said that, man. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:03:00 Hey, we've been waiting to talk to you, man. We got to get right to it. There's a lot going on with you in the news. All right. All right, man. We good, man. We good. We good. We. There's a lot going on with you in the news. All right, man. We good, man. We good. We blessed.
Starting point is 00:03:08 They say you out here talking about raping women. No, man. We're going out of proportion, man. We heard the lyric, though. It did sound like that. But listen, if you listen, it's just good music. I was good. But it wasn't supposed to leave the studio, though.
Starting point is 00:03:17 So, like, you know, it was a studio leak song. I apologize for it. But that ain't what I'm on to. I'm not going to rape anybody. And you get a lot of money. So I know you're getting some money out of it. Yeah, no doubt. Who leaked it?
Starting point is 00:03:29 I don't know. It was like over 100 songs got leaked. You feel me? I don't know, man, because I be doing so many songs. So the song's like two years old anyway, though. You know what I mean? I was young. I don't know who leaked it.
Starting point is 00:03:39 I would have just said I was high. Hey, man, I was high. Nah, I wasn't high, though. I was sober when I made that. Because me and Thug was still talking. So that's all. So what happened with you and Thug? Why don't y'all speak anymore?
Starting point is 00:03:48 We still talk, you know what I mean? Right now I'm just focused on my solo career, you know what I mean? My brain already cute. Yeah, I do speak. Yeah, same way I came in. Yeah, that's all. It got back to me.
Starting point is 00:03:56 I saw you on ESPN. You was on Highly Questioned when you said that it upset you when he called you bitch homie Quan or something like that. That lie. You don't even keep that day. Oh, I call him a bitch every day. Yeah, they do that all the time. I don't know if you can compare that.
Starting point is 00:04:09 But he's behind the scenes. Yeah, you feel me? Not like if you don't call it to his face, though. You know what I mean? Something like that. You know what I mean? So, it just throws me off. You feel me?
Starting point is 00:04:16 That's all, man. But, like, I'm over it. You feel me? I'm focused on myself right now. But, yeah, I talked to Burry yesterday. You know what I mean? I was trying to ask him what the order of Felipe when we had went. Felipe?
Starting point is 00:04:26 Felips? Yeah. Go to Felipe. No, you a hootie. You a hootie. Oh, yeah. Felipe. Felipe.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Now. Do you think it was a mistake to sign with Rich Gang? Huh? I mean, not sign, but do you think it was a mistake to be affiliated with Rich Gang instead of being popping as a solo artist like you were? No, I wouldn't say that because I learned from every situation I'm in. You know what I'm saying? I just feel as if, you know,
Starting point is 00:04:47 everything is a learning experience. You feel me? I learned a lot from them. You feel me? So, like, nah, you know, I just used what I, you know, used to do as I did learn from them and just incorporated what I got going on
Starting point is 00:04:56 and made me a more powerful person. I always wondered, why would anybody sign to Birdman? Like, no one's seen his history of how he does. But were you signed or was it just an affiliation? It's just an affiliation. I never signed a book. I've never signed no paperwork.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Smart man. He's not signed to a label. I'm an independent artist, bro. I thought you was on Def Jam. No. No, where'd you get that from? Now, there was room with that. No, it wasn't Def Jam.
Starting point is 00:05:17 I was talking about when Trinidad had signed. When Trinidad James had signed that you was part of that clique and you was also part of Def Jam at that time. Was that true? No, that wasn't true. I've been to the building. You know what I'm saying? I met everybody from Care.
Starting point is 00:05:29 I met everybody over there. But we just never got to that. I never signed any paperwork. You'd be sick right now. I would be sick, too. They are sick. Maybe if things would have worked out with Trinidad James and Def Jam, you know, for long term, they probably would have tried to get you.
Starting point is 00:05:44 No, they tried to, but at the time, like, it gotta be, it gotta make sense. I'm just not eager to sign something just to say I signed. Like, it gotta make sense. It gotta be, like, what I want is something long term. So if you can't give me nothing long term, I might as well stay independent and push myself the way I know I want to see myself.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Right. I mean, Trini Dad don't make records like you. To me, anyway. You know what I mean? I mean, what he turns it on, like, you know what I'm saying? That's a strong word to describe him. Well, you know what? I would say this Rich Homie clown, we had you up here pretty early on in your career.
Starting point is 00:06:12 And some people thought, oh, he's going to be a one-hit wonder with Let's See Where He Goes. And you really did prove everybody wrong. Yeah, I wouldn't say that. To me, the whole time, I knew. You know what I'm saying? The first time I came, Charlemagne was here. Yeah, I saw you was in the lobby. He was like, he's not going to be in. I'm out of here.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Yes, you did. I got a magnet coming from him. That definitely happened. That's a lie. He called Kendrick Lamar a janitor. Kendrick Lamar did look like a janitor when I first met him. But I ain't never said Kendrick wasn't going to be nothing. I said he looked like a janitor. I'm from South Carolina. I see guys
Starting point is 00:06:44 like you blow up all the time. I don't know what they're talking about. It ain't even that. At the same time, a janitor. Kendra, real time. Listen, I'm from South Carolina. I see guys like you blow up all the time. So I don't know what they talking about. And I ain't even that, though. At the same time, you never just judge a book by a cover, though. You know what I'm saying? Like, me, I got a lot of sense, man. I read more than I do anything. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:06:55 I saw you say that on Highly Questionable. What do you like to read? James Patterson. My favorite author. You know what I mean? Very talented, though. I picked up reading from jail, though. After that, I graduated with a 3.2, so I could always read.
Starting point is 00:07:07 But there's a difference between reading and reading without understanding. I could run straight through the words, but you could go back and ask me, what you read about? I don't know. Then I realized just how powerful reading was in jail, then I came home. That's why some of my verses be so descriptive. You know what I mean? Jane Patterson for that.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Are you surprised with your success? Because you have a huge success, a huge following, and you are independent. Yes. Oh, yeah, I'm very excited. You know what I'm saying? Even though they always keep throwing curveballs at me. Mm-hmm. But I got God in my corner, so I don't really be tripping, man.
Starting point is 00:07:35 You put up a bunch of videos, and this was a couple months ago. Maybe eight, nine months ago. And you were just walking to different malls, and the kids following you and chasing you. And do you ever stop yourself and be i made it now bro because i still try to keep that i in my mind like i've made it but to me i still like it like i'm still trying to make it so that's why i think i still go so hard man like if i go like yeah i think i'm rapping for the for the kids man because they're the future you feel me like bro every mile we go to bro we shut it down.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Like, in a good way, though. You know? From older people. But I do get a lot of kids following up. The kids, because they listen to everything I say.
Starting point is 00:08:12 That's why I try to be, I try to watch what I say, watch what gets leaked, because kids do listen, man. They really take everything to the head. That's right. You don't want,
Starting point is 00:08:19 I don't want you a hoe just wanting a cookie from her. Man, we don't want to talk about it. You're trying to resist, so I took it from her. That's very rapey. That's very rapey. That's very rapey. But listen, if you listen, like, I wasn't so, like, I didn't just come out and just.
Starting point is 00:08:31 I don't want you a hoe. Okay. You don't want the girl. Okay. You just want that cookie from her. She tried to resist, so I took it from her. No, I said cookie. Okay, cookie.
Starting point is 00:08:40 I said cookie, so I tried to keep her, but not as vulgar, you know what I mean? Trying not to be just so discreet about it, but. I like you to say I was young, man. I was young. Yeah, I was young, man. I didn't keep it, but not as bold. You know what I mean? Trying not to be just so sweet about it. I like you to say, I was young, man. I was young. I was young, man. I didn't make mistakes. You know? I hope you can forgive me for it.
Starting point is 00:08:51 And you would never do that in real life. I'm too small to do that. And you would never condone that. At that time, I was just rapping. Bill Cosby was a little guy, too. He was a little guy. Leave Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby ain't do that, man.
Starting point is 00:09:01 I'm on Bill's side, man. That's crazy. But you know, with all the popularity that you've had, also breeds a lot of people taking sides at you and coming at you. How difficult is that? It's just life, man. They hate it on Jesus. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:09:13 I'm being real. It's life. They're going to hate on you whenever, regardless. People are going to talk. If they're not talking, you're not doing something right. Even if it's bad, if it's good. As long as you're in the mix, I feel as if you're doing something right. Did it really bother you to be called like bae and hubby
Starting point is 00:09:27 and then have people coming at you like, why is he calling him bae? Why is he calling you hubby? Because he made it sound like that. Because your son's mother had to defend you and say, OK, he's not gay. We have a child together. Everybody know I'm not gay.
Starting point is 00:09:40 To me, I can see gay when I see it. Why are you pointing to Charlamagne? No, I'm pointing to Charlamagne. I'm just saying like, I can see gay when I see it. Why you pointing to Charlamagne? No, I'm pointing to Charlamagne. I'm just saying, like, you can know, like, come on, man. Guys, like, we know, like, you can peep gayness. You can peep sweetness. Something is not right. Ah, the lines be a little blurred nowadays, though.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Oh, yeah, yeah. In Atlanta sometimes. Yeah, you got to wear it. No, no, no. Don't just say Atlanta everywhere. You know what I mean? Atlanta's a little crazy. Like, nah, I ain't going to lie to you.
Starting point is 00:10:03 It has got to look crazy over the years in Atlanta. Nah, I ain't gonna flip. The hug is a little confusing now. You just gotta get to know him, though, bro. That's all. You know what I mean? He don't like to do interviews, so it's not like he's gonna talk and tell you why he says it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:14 Once you get to know him, there's just no type of person here. It's just different. But are you like, stop calling me Bay and Hubby, because it gets misconstrued. Hubby's a little crazy. And why you never said it back? You could have said it with my hubby back, too. That's not the way I talk. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:27 That's all. But I ain't nothing against it, though. That's not me. And they give you a lot of flack for the dance you be doing. Oh, yeah, man. You be telling me dance. But listen, the girls love it, though. The first thing they say is, oh, it look gay.
Starting point is 00:10:38 But if you look at it, let me explain the dance. First and foremost, what I'm doing is, really, I'm emotional. I'm hitting the girl from the back the whole time. I start, I wipe my sweat off. I turn in a different position. So the whole time emotional. I'm hitting the girl from the back the whole time. I start, I wipe my sweater off. I turn in a different position. So the whole time, really, just hitting the girl from the back the whole time. But you have to see a show.
Starting point is 00:10:50 No, I cannot do it. No, I can't do it. And be trying to do it. It look awful. Somebody tried this. Charlamagne tried this. I'm not doing that. It was awful.
Starting point is 00:10:57 He tried the nae-nae. See, like, the nae-nae, to me, like, you'll never see me doing dancing like that. Like, I'm not even a dance-type person. You can ask anybody around me. It just came out of the studio one day. I did that one show.
Starting point is 00:11:07 I forgot where we was at. But the girls went crazy. So I just been doing everything. I don't care what nobody think, bro. But it made the song get bigger flex, though. It did make it big. Keep talking about it. When you hitting the girl from the back, that's what you be doing?
Starting point is 00:11:18 Man, what? Don't know. I'd be really into it, man. And if I'd be drunk at my show. You'd never look back and be like, what is you doing back there? They so gone in the mold. Like, keep doing what you doing right now. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:11:31 So, nice. I love to dance, though, bro. Like, I don't want you to judge me off the dance because I'm not even a dancing type person. It's just something fun to do, man. You know what I'm saying? I get money and enjoy myself. And if I make the song blow up, man, I keep doing them all. Now, I will say this about you and Thug.
Starting point is 00:11:44 Y'all do seem to not care what people think. You know what I'm saying? If you care, I feel as if I care to deteriorate my mind, bro. You know what I mean? What I got going for me, I already know I'm going in the next five years, despite what anybody say. I know where I'm going to be. It's my mindset.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Right. My mindset. What about everybody with the camera phones and the cameras rolling and then they try to pull up on you and be like, come on, let's fight, let's do this, and then it gets posted on Instagram? Do you have to worry about people with their cameras and then he try to pull up on you and be like come on let's fight let's do this and then it gets posted on instagram so you have to worry about people with their cameras and all that people trying to fight you nah you ain't never seen the video i have you rolled up you pulled up on him yeah you pulled up yeah cuz like me i know i'm a little bro you know like oh we ain't trying to go for no bs like can't be slandering names out
Starting point is 00:12:20 here like like you won't get caught in these atlanta streets now we ain't gonna even talk about that because like now i'm that because it's back to violent. I'm trying to be a good person. You're trying. I'm trying to be a good person, man, you know what I mean? I'm trying to be a role model for the kids.
Starting point is 00:12:31 We gotta come to the club, bro. All right. Now, what happened in the club in Miami? They said you beat up a security, then you ran.
Starting point is 00:12:36 And then you fled on a yacht. That's an amazing story. Did you come to the club on the boat? Rich homie Bond. Okay, listen. James Bond. Listen, I ain't really supposed to be talking about this, y'all.
Starting point is 00:12:47 But this is just a breakfast club. Yes, I did come to the club on the boat. The altercation with the security guard, I don't know nothing about that. The speedboat, I don't know nothing about that. That's a great story. That is. I even laughed at the story
Starting point is 00:13:05 i'm like the hell man it made me like look how little i am how could i listen listen man they said the bounce is what she say 300 plus pounds liberty old me's with it you got goons he said i did he said he said he said you never know you might got one of them rings could have sliced his face up come on man liberty old me let's. Let's have the best security in the world. I don't recall anything. Did you get charged for that date? I was charged. You had to turn yourself in.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Yeah, I had to turn myself in. They tried to tell me it's a misdemeanor. Oh, you good then? Nah. It's still ongoing. It's still ongoing. Oh, it's civil suit. You trying to get some bread?
Starting point is 00:13:41 Oh, okay, okay. Got you, got you, got you. Yes. You said yes. Yes, yes. But you did nothing. Nah got you. Yes. You said yes. Yes. Yes. But you did nothing. Nah, man, but I enjoyed the story.
Starting point is 00:13:49 Where? Yeah, I got, you know, the story was fun. Call me James, James Kwan. Rich Homie Bond. Rich Homie Bond. That would have been a fight. That was hard, though. But, like, even the whole story, though, that's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Like, come on, man. Speedboat, man. Nah. That was a hard story, though. But I heard that last, though. Now, did you really give Tyga advice? Because I was listening to his new record, Hollywood, and he said, Rich Homie Quan told me,
Starting point is 00:14:09 get rich or stay quiet and get rich. When I had first met him, because you know we did the song, what's on the Fast and the Furious, me, Wale, YG. But that was my first time ever meeting him. We went to LA to perform for the movie premiere. And we just chopped it up. I told him I'd be on the fan. You know what I mean? I ever meet them in LA to perform for the movie premiere.
Starting point is 00:14:25 And we just chopped it up. I told them I been a fan. You know what I mean? Cause I was number 25. So when I was little, I would see Tyga all the time. So I told him he was an influencer. You know what I mean? Me rapping.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Told him to keep going hard. I told him he should keep talking to that girl. The one they keep talking to him about. Kylie. Yeah, I told him she's bad. I don't tell nobody to say it. Red shirt, that pussy, till she 18. She got bread. What's she at, 17? 17. Come on, man him she's bad. I don't tell nobody to say it. Red shirt, that pussy, until she's 18. She got bread.
Starting point is 00:14:46 What's she, 17? 17. That's legal in Georgia, though. Man, but that ain't even nothing. Why he the only one people keep talking about? But I don't see multiple rappers with her, though.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Yeah, man. Oh, you see multiple rappers smashing Kylie? No, I ain't saying smashing. Or be with her. Be with her, but like, if you see... So she a thot?
Starting point is 00:15:01 I don't know. No, man. You can't say nothing bad about no Kardashian sister. They passing her around? What you saying? Nah, I'm just saying. Why y'all all on Tyga's back about it when I done seen this rapper with her, that rapper
Starting point is 00:15:12 with her? Y'all didn't say nothing. Well, that's because Tyga, like, I guess claimed it. I don't see nothing wrong with you. Well, he posts pictures of her on Instagram and, you know, blah, blah, blah. Like, that's his girl. People looking at it like that's his girl. And then they act like Tyga 40-something.
Starting point is 00:15:23 The man 24, 25 years old. Man, the girl is cute, man. She, that's his girl. People looking at it like, that's his girl. And then they act like Tiger 40-something. The man 24, 25 years old. Man, the girl is cute, man. She's a Kardashian. She got bread. He's smart. Now, we saw you looking booed up with Johnny Blaze. That's just my friend.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Okay, because y'all were like in bed together. I was drunk. You were drunk? I was drunk. He's drunk. He got a straight face. I was drunk.
Starting point is 00:15:43 No matter what happens, I always say I was drunk. I was drunk. When I did that rape lyric, I was drunk. He's drunk. He got a straight face. I was drunk. No matter what happens, I always say I was drunk. I was drunk. When I did that rape lyric, I was drunk. Miami night, I don't know nothing. I was drunk.
Starting point is 00:15:50 I don't know nothing. Nah, for real. I'm in touch with good people, though, man. I was just trying to hip on her music a little bit. You know what I mean? That ain't gonna work, bro. Come on. Y'all were like naked in bed doing music.
Starting point is 00:15:58 We weren't naked. Y'all look naked. You're teaching her to flex, man. I'm teaching her to flex. She gotta earn them tracks. You can't just be writing for us. She gotta earn it. I just, you know, like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:16:08 I'm just so, I just like music, man. I might just be, you know, we chilling. I'll be like, what you working on? You know, might assist you, say it like this, say it like that. You know, just talking about music. Oh, waste your time, brother. I don't know. It ain't gonna happen for her.
Starting point is 00:16:20 You don't think so? Nah, it ain't happening. How many people have tried to get you to do a guest appearance on Love & Hip Hop? I'm sure in Atlanta they done asked you a million times. I don't try to. Yeah, man, I'm not an actor. I don't want my life even seen like that. I feel as if it's too Hollywood.
Starting point is 00:16:37 It'll take away from my music career. Right. I feel as if I'm doing too much. You know what I mean? They already had me audition for the Barbershop 3 movie. Oh, really? I was already like, I'mbershop 3 movie. Oh really? I was already like, no actor man.
Starting point is 00:16:47 That's different. What did they want you to play? Like a street dude, something dude, I don't know. Typecasting you? It ain't no barber. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It ain't no barber. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:16:57 Nah, but it's different though, because rapping is just a platform. You know what I mean? It's a great experience. Even if I don't get the part, it was still, you know what I mean, a blessing to meet the director. You know what I mean? So you have the acting bug now? You think you want to do some movies and be in some? Is that something you're interested in?
Starting point is 00:17:11 Movies? Not no, what's they call them? Reality shows. None of that, man. They're not real. See, acting, I'm acting. Right, it is still acting. You feel I'm acting.
Starting point is 00:17:19 I'm getting paid to act. You can't broadcast real. You know what I mean? Now, what's your relationship with Lil Wayne? How is that relationship? Me and Wayne cool, man. You know what I'm saying? Like, I've only met him, like, a couple of times.
Starting point is 00:17:32 But every time I meet him, like, never no bad blood. He always speak. You know what I mean? We dabble, but whatnot. But, like, you know what I mean? You took a couple of shots at him, though. No, I didn't. I never took a shot at Wayne.
Starting point is 00:17:41 You said something about him not being hot no more or something. What lyric was that? We had to go back and get that. I've never liked this Wayne whatsoever.. You said something about him not being hot no more or something. What lyric was that? We had to go back and get that. I've never liked this Wayne whatsoever. Wayne's one of my biggest influences. I've never thrown one bad shot at Wayne. Yeah, Thug said that. I don't remember.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Yeah, Thug said that. Yeah, I know. Yeah, not Kwan. Not Wayne. Oh, man. Too much respect for him. Do you feel like you get mixed up in all of that, though, just because of all the issues that are going on?
Starting point is 00:18:02 Yeah, because you just thought I said the words. I did. I thought you took a little shot at him. But it'd be okay, though, because as long as you can always come on? Yeah, because you just thought I said the word. I did, I thought you took a little shot at him. But it'd be okay though because as long as you can always come back and defend yourself,
Starting point is 00:18:09 but no, I'll never do it. You know what I mean? If I get caught up, I know I can get myself out of it. I never get in too deep. What about loyalty to people that you work with though?
Starting point is 00:18:16 Do you feel like, well now I got to rock with you? Like, it's not a situation when you feel like your beef is my beef? No, it ain't never that
Starting point is 00:18:22 because my circle is always small. I have nothing but family around me and no new friends whatsoever. You know what I'm saying? So like, I don my beef? Uh-huh. No, it ain't never that, because my circle is always small. I have nothing but family around me, no new friends whatsoever. Mm-hmm. You know what I'm saying? So, like, I don't really go out like that. I don't care about who you with. Like, it's all about me and my team and the brand.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Mm-hmm. If it ain't about that, I don't want nothing to do with it. Now, what made you want to take a break from Rich Gang? What was the thing that made you say, I'm going to fall back a little? It wasn't so much as a break, man. I had just to get back.
Starting point is 00:18:44 You know, like, you read your comments or whatnot, you see stuff, I just thought, everybody's saying, go back to you. You know, so it wasn't ever like no break.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Like you say, I was never engaged with them. You know, you just try something out for a while. Some great hit songs came out of that. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:18:57 like you say, it was a great experience, man, you know what I'm saying? I learned things. I learned how to do things. I learned what not to do, you know what I'm saying? So things I learned how to do things I learned what not to do you know what I'm saying so it's a learning experience pay your artists do you feel like Birdman was setting y'all up though like like I mean as far as he didn't have nobody on his side
Starting point is 00:19:14 so let me go grab these couple young hot dudes and stand now to be honest I had been taught to Birdman probably like three years ago before I even took off it was just a matter of just me and him just really getting with each other. And once we got with each other, we just kicked it like every day. It was really more like a summer thing because he was in Atlanta so much. You feel me? We, you know, dropping the mixtape. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:19:35 Then we still had so many other songs. We were talking about the album, but it never got to that point. But if we would have dropped one, I wouldn't mind helping out on the album, though. Like I said, there's no bad blood with me toward them. You know what I mean? Or anybody. Like I said, I just want to focus on my brand and me. You feel me?
Starting point is 00:19:48 Get back to like, it's the way I came in by myself. I'm going to leave by myself. When is the album coming out? Late, I would say fall. Fall. Will you sign to a major? If it makes sense. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:19:58 What kind of bag would they need? What kind of bag would they need? A bag. They got to give me more than what I already got. You feel me? I think, man, what? I'm going to feature on two platinum songs. Got my own gold song. So, like? I think, man, what? I'm gonna feature on two platinum songs. Got my own gold song. So, like, I need to check, bro.
Starting point is 00:20:08 You see, like, I'm pretty sure, like, you know, like, not saying I would go platinum or whatnot, but I think I would sell. I think I would, honestly, I think I would sell, bro. You know what I mean? Even if it was some garbage. I know I wouldn't put no garbage on anything, but I, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:20:20 I think I would sell, but I just would need a bag. And maybe a label situation on your own artist. Would you want that? Not right now. but I just would need a bad. And maybe a label situation on your own artist. Would you want that? Not right now. I've just been focused on producers. How can I focus on another artist? I would never want to sign an artist in self. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:20:34 And I'm being real. I would never let an artist be bigger than me with myself being an artist. Okay. That makes sense. Okay. No one ever. A lot of artists do that, though. But listen, your average artist do that. You sign a competition, so then he's no longer a factor if he's under me. And try to st lot of artists do that, though. But, like, listen. Your average artist do that.
Starting point is 00:20:45 You sign the competition, so then he's no longer affected if he's under me. And try to stifle him. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Come on, man. But you never hear somebody say that. I ain't gonna sign nobody. I'm being real because I'm the artist. I really focus on myself as opposed to focus on...
Starting point is 00:20:57 I know I've signed you, but I really signed a producer to make my sound better. Once I feel I don't have it no more, then I might consider signing an artist. But, no, I'm not interested in artists. I just want to produce. Now, as impersonators out here running around, doing shows as you, does that make you feel like you need to grind harder? Because if people can pretend to be you... Nah, I wouldn't say they pretend to be me. It'd be most of them. Yes, they do. They do pretend to be me. I used to do that back in my day. Who would you pretend to be?
Starting point is 00:21:22 When it was like Franchise Boys' first start. Nobody knew who they was. They had a hot record getting like three guys. White cheese on? That's right. Put on some white cheese? That's it. Got the Franchise Boys here tonight.
Starting point is 00:21:30 I only did that like once or twice. You're lying, man. But nah, I just be feeling that because I just saw you working on it. They're trying to,
Starting point is 00:21:35 come on, man. You can't duplicate greatness, bro. And that's just how I look at it. Greatness cannot be duplicated, man. Once you see me, you get the real, man. I'm not going to sugarcoat it.
Starting point is 00:21:43 I'm just going to give you the real. Whether you like it or not. If you go out there and put some braids in and do the crazy dance, you get the real, man. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. I'm just going to give you the real, whether you like it or not. Maybe go out there, put some braids in, do the crazy dance. People keep the lights low. It ain't even that, though. I've invented my image, man, even from the first time someone had the afro. Everybody started getting it. I started seeing the rich homie fade everywhere.
Starting point is 00:22:00 You know what I mean? So I just wanted to reinvent myself, but not go too far Fetching left field You feel me Still stay me Now who is Royalty Rich Royal Royal Rich That's my son
Starting point is 00:22:10 That's his son That's my son Oh okay Got you got you got you Yeah Royal Rich Lamar Yeah that's my son Yeah are you and the mother What's her name
Starting point is 00:22:17 Ambarella Are you guys still together Nah that's just my baby though Like you know what I'm saying She's great forever Okay You know what I mean? But we're not together.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Mm-hmm. But she's good forever, though. Because they was definitely on Instagram, posting pictures. Oh, yeah, I'm a family guy now. Like, I'm a family guy. I'm at all the birthdays. I don't care what it is.
Starting point is 00:22:35 Like, I got to be there. That's my son. You feel me? I got to be there. I don't care who that is. Even if I call somebody, it would not disrespect, you know what I'm saying,
Starting point is 00:22:42 point blank, period. It's the mother of my child. It don't just go like that. You had to pull a pistol on another man huh you had to pull a pistol on somebody she was dating nah she don't date nobody what's she supposed to do what's she supposed to do I mean don't you want her to be happy with somebody be a mom be a mom but you don't want to be in love and have a man? Not right now. Rich, Rich, that's not the best thing for us right now. So then you don't date nobody either? So you don't date nobody either? No, I just have friends.
Starting point is 00:23:12 So she can have friends? Nah. Nah, like I ain't been, I don't know what I'm being, but she can't, I feel like she's focused on being a mother. It's her first child. Do what mothers do. So you still love her? Yeah. You just never asked but yeah I still love her. But then you could just not date nobody else and focus on being a father. I could but you know what I'm saying. Do you have to have to talk to her like look man I'm a rapper I'm out here you know what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:23:39 I'm out here. You good you number one This is the fun thing about it, though. How long have I been rapping? I've probably been talking to Emma like seven years. She was here before the month. She was here when I was broke, living with my mom with no bed. You feel me? So I go back. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:23:55 But I be telling her, like, come on, man, you tripping. You know? You're like, I'm only 25. I'm a rapper. I'm a... Yeah, I just don't want to settle down now. But if I was, everybody know who be with her. I just don't want to settle down now. That's all.
Starting point is 00:24:03 I'm still young and enjoying my life. That's good. Just be honest. That's all. You just gotta all you just gotta be honest she can't have no friends not going for that but i know you don't think she's not doing anything i bet you every dollar my pocket she not rich home we got every eye on her no it ain't even that it ain't even that man jay like you know like i don, I don't know. Let's get out of that, man. It's all getting mushy. It's all getting mushy. It's all getting mushy, man. When did you add the Rich to your name? Was you Homie Quan when you was living with your mom?
Starting point is 00:24:31 Yeah, I've been Rich Homie probably about 10 years. When I was broke, I would call him, because I never meant Rich as in money, though. It always been Rich as in spirit, man. My mom always taught me that. And you got to put it in the air, too. I'm going to be Rich Homie Quan. Yeah, and the name's so long, I thought it would catch people. You know what I mean? Like, the name's long. It's like the first, middle, last name.
Starting point is 00:24:48 Yeah. You know what I mean? But what you get is what you see, Rich Homie Quan. It came in the closet like 10 years ago. That's when I was still in high school, when the Rich Homie name ever came about. I got locked up, and I never just went away from it. Everybody started coming up with these different names. I just stayed down with Rich Homie.
Starting point is 00:25:03 Does it bother you when they come up with all these different nicknames, though, to be like if the rape homie Kwan, the bitch homie Kwan, rich homie Bond. You're like, God damn. No, man. I don't get mad. I don't just laugh at all. You don't, though. I see that. You have a good sense of humor. What makes you mad?
Starting point is 00:25:20 My, uh, Elmer having a friend. No. No, but she's gonna date an athlete or something. In this game, man, if you get mad, they'll take advantage I don't have a friend. She's going to date an athlete at some point. In this game, man, if you get mad, they'll take advantage of you. So you can't let people know. Show no emotions, man. Just have fun doing what you love to do. You feel me?
Starting point is 00:25:36 But you got to think. You're doing what you want to do. So whatever you say is not going to deteriorate my mind or anything. Because I know where I want to go. Right. You know what I'm saying? My mind already said it. Now, people also got mad at you
Starting point is 00:25:46 because you said you like when white people use the word. Yeah. All right, you can't. Come on, man. You go do a show. If I go do a show, they be like,
Starting point is 00:25:54 come on, do the clean version. So I be out there saying my hittin'. How can I say my hittin' when they just keep saying constantly my hittin'? Like, that just, come on, man. Like, that just,
Starting point is 00:26:06 it just enhanced my performance. That turned me up even more. Say it again. I put it, come on, man. That just enhanced my performance. That turned me up even more. Say it again. Let them say it. As long as you're singing a song, you're okay with it. But what about in real life? It's not the 60s no more, man. I really feel like the worst benediction there, how much it can use.
Starting point is 00:26:21 What about with the ER at the end? See, that's different. See, you just went back. Oh, my God. If they use it like us, you don't got no problem. Oh, no, but you know what I'm saying? Like, you can't just be like, we don't got to argue. Like, F-U-N.
Starting point is 00:26:31 Oh, no. It's different. But, like, come on, man. We're using it so much. It's not the 60s no more. But I think with all the racial tension and the police brutality and stuff, you know. Yeah, but I wasn't thinking about that when I said it. And I still don't.
Starting point is 00:26:46 But, like, I don't mind them using the word, depending on how they use it. Like I said, it's in everybody's vocabulary. Even if you don't hear them say it, I bet they say it. Do you have a problem with law enforcement in Atlanta? Any police in Atlanta? Yeah, yeah. Nah, man. The police just show me law.
Starting point is 00:26:58 I got pulled over for it. They let me go. They just want to take a selfie. All right. Nah, like DeKalb County. I don't really fool around over there. If you you look at the beginning of some type of video, we had got locked up for real. And I ain't really been out there since DeKalb since then.
Starting point is 00:27:11 That's where I'm from though. They locked you up while y'all filming the video? Yeah, before. Before, okay. No, we was on our way to the club, but finished filming the video in the club. So they just ended up getting the footage, they just locked us up.
Starting point is 00:27:20 It was a raid, like a raid, big old raid. Now when you see stories like what happened to Chink's Drugs, rest in peace, do you worry about that kind of stuff? Like jealousy, envy, a hater trying to take you out? That I worry about. Because it's always a matter for me to see it, bro. Go back to the Dobie situation.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Dobie didn't get murdered outside the city. He got murdered at home. You know what I mean? That'd be the worst part about it all. Because you get hate. You go to another city, the people love you. They pay their money. You know what I mean? A promoter not going to bring you here if the people don about it all because you get hate. You go to another city, the people love you. They pay their money. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:27:45 A promoter not going to bring you here if the people don't want to see you. So I don't never worry about anything happening to me outside of Atlanta, Georgia. Even with my new house, that's why I just moved so far. Like, I'm in Georgia, but it's not the city. So I don't even really leave home because I know, like, some people want to see me up. But everybody's not as excited about my success like I'm excited. You know what I mean? Everybody don't want to see me win, but everybody not excited about my success like I'm excited. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:28:05 Everybody don't want to see me win. That's what I said. When I see you pulling up on guys, I'm like, man, why are you doing that? Because Atlanta's small. Oh, yeah, very small. You could be with your son one day, your girl, you know what I'm saying? Your father had a difficult situation. Yeah, yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:28:17 My dad had a very difficult situation, but he made it through. He got shot. You feel me? That just come from hate, though. I don't know if it was- Your dad got shot. Yeah, he got shot four times. They shoot him because you was his son?
Starting point is 00:28:29 I don't know what the motive of my dad getting shot was. We still don't know to this day. That's what I got. So, you know what I mean? I still walk around with that on my shoulder. You know what I mean? But he survived, though. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:28:38 72 days in the hospital. Wow. Damn. Yeah. So, what kind of precautions do you take? Beef up security. You know what I mean? Just start taking it? Beef up security. You know what I mean? Just start taking it a little more serious.
Starting point is 00:28:48 You know what I mean? That's when I had a real lot like, everybody don't want to see me happy. Everybody don't care. Everybody don't want to see me smile. Despite how much I get back to the city. It's always somebody going to be, hey, after we get back every year
Starting point is 00:28:59 from Thanksgiving to Christmas. You know what I'm saying? That actually make them madder sometimes. But, like, why though, man? Ain't nobody else doing it. Man, listen, in my hometown, Mount Square, South Carolina, I gave away about 1,000 turkeys
Starting point is 00:29:12 over this past Thanksgiving. I had a dude tell me, man, you know nobody want your dry-ass turkeys. Like, damn, dog. When your turkeys dry, though, you need them when they dry. Maybe they would die. Man, shut up.
Starting point is 00:29:22 They're frozen. You know what I'm saying? But it's just the principle. Why you mad that I'm giving back? Like, what the? It just kind of like, we were giving away bikes. I did, like,
Starting point is 00:29:32 the hood on front of the Walmart. I see a lot of people I went to high school with. You can see some people who were, like, genuinely happy for you. Right. And some people shake my hand.
Starting point is 00:29:39 I can feel, like, madness in the shape. Like, damn, you made it. You know what I mean? Because in high school, bro, I'll be honest. I never thought, I never looked at myself as being a rapper. Never, like damn you made it now i'm in high school where i'll be honest i never thought i never looked at myself as being a rapper never like you know you vote the most
Starting point is 00:29:49 successful person it would never be me and i know i'm the most what would you have been voted if it was class clown okay you know i mean class clown i got voted bitch rich that class clown i mean you've been doing that dance for a long time no man i just got a good sense of humor that's all i'm not i'm not, that's all. I'm not a dancer person, bro. Honestly. I'm not a dancer person at all. I just been in the studio crying.
Starting point is 00:30:09 I know people talk crazy to you on Twitter, too. Do you ever feel like, all right, I gotta find this person? Because you see that happen all the time. I'll tell you,
Starting point is 00:30:15 I took the notifications off my phone. Twitter only alerts me when I get on it. So, like, even from Instagram, the social media life, I only see it when I want to get on it.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Right. You feel me? They're going to say everything. So if you don't want it, don't even sign up for it. I've yet to get a Snapchat, though. And everybody keeps saying that's the move. But I don't be really into it. I didn't even bring my phone today.
Starting point is 00:30:37 I don't really be into the phone thing like that. It slows me down. Today we got to do a lot of pressing, press. So that's what my mind is at the day, press. Phone going to throw me out. I mean, the biggest thing, and that's what my mind is at the press. I'm gonna throw me out But I mean the biggest thing that's why I want to get cleanses from you The biggest thing people always question you about is your sexuality They think cuz of your dance because of the way you dress like he must be gay
Starting point is 00:30:54 Then they think of the young thug calling you hubby in Bay. Clearly. That's not the case I know man leave you around me ten minutes man ten minutes First time I came up like I was showing it but this time you know in the district i brought a little friend with me i said oh my baby oh my gosh this guy richard i'm coming for you man i'm gonna that up. That was an assistant or something, man. It's all good, man. If I ain't lying, I already done shit, you know.
Starting point is 00:31:29 Oh, so you was in New York, but somehow made it. No, because yesterday, I wasn't going to tell her, but yesterday I was coming, we were doing stuff, and the paparazzi was so crazy up here. So she sent me a picture already. She sent you a picture? Yeah, like. She already seen you.
Starting point is 00:31:42 She said, you know, your baby mama's very pretty, too. She might mess with one of the Hawks or something at some point. All right. The Hawks will be some eagles. The Hawks will be some eagles, man. Won't be no playoff. Won't be no playoff. You can come as far as it be over.
Starting point is 00:31:59 It's already over, though. Carol taking it all. Dang, you ain't rooting for your home team, bro? I'm from Atlanta, man, but come on. We know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the GOAT. Dang, you ain't rooting for your home team, bro? I'm from Atlanta, man, but come on, bro. We know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the GOAT. Yeah, I think so, too.
Starting point is 00:32:08 I don't mind checking out a game or not, but I'm not going to even lie. I like the city, though. How does that work for you now? Do you pay for tickets or they be like,
Starting point is 00:32:14 nah, go and sit courtside? You a star? Play yards you're going to pay. All right, all right. During the regular season, we was just getting tired. People from the hospital hit me up.
Starting point is 00:32:22 You know what I mean? Like the marketing people, they give you tickets or whatnot. Before I went to my three game, I'd be so busy. I went with my dad every time though. Yeah, I love sports though. I watch SportsCenter before I wake up. I don't even watch the news.
Starting point is 00:32:35 SportsCenter though, that's the news to me. Well, did you pull the sign with Jeezy at one point? No, we were just talking. We just did a song. People see you with somebody then. I think you're going to sign. Yeah, yeah. But I'm sure a lot of people
Starting point is 00:32:45 are trying to sign you. I'm sure he put his bid in. I'm sure a lot of people did. All right. They don't ever put the bid in. That's the funny part. That's the crazy thing to me. We'll kick it.
Starting point is 00:32:56 We might talk about it, but you never get a bid. Well, the reason why is he's doing so successful. What number can you do that? Yeah, and that's why I think a lot of people be afraid, though.
Starting point is 00:33:03 But this is my thing. You an OG in Atlanta. If you T.I., you Jeezy, they see y'all. Don't forget Gucci. I forget Gucci. He just hit me up, too. From jail. He did?
Starting point is 00:33:12 What'd he say? I need you on his song. They say Gucci doing a lot of songs. Nah, he is. But you got a studio in jail, don't you? I don't know what he doing, how he sounding so clear, man. I was listening to the song like, is he in jail when he recorded it? He hit me on Instagram.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Yeah. He be hitting people. You'll be surprised, man. I was listening to the song like, is he in jail when he recorded it? He hit me on Instagram. Yeah. He be evil. You'll be surprised, man. You'll be surprised. But my thing is, they see y'all from the beginning beginning. So they could grab y'all and put y'all on paperwork before everything pop off. I never understand why that don't happen. Because sometimes, you know, a lot of them don't believe, man.
Starting point is 00:33:38 You know what I'm saying? A lot of them don't believe. When I first came out with that song, I was sounding like Future. That was the biggest criticism I got. They still say that now? Wait, don't? Nah. A little bit.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Not as much, though. Nah, I feel like if I've incorporated my own sound, I feel as if I've beat him in the head enough with my sound to let him know
Starting point is 00:33:54 we're from Atlanta. Maybe we just sign like this. You feel me? So you wouldn't sign with an artist, though, being that your feeling is as an artist, you wouldn't want
Starting point is 00:34:00 somebody to do better than you? I wouldn't say that, no. If an artist offers me the right number. What's the number? Say, put that out there in the universe. It ain't really a number, man. It got to make sense.
Starting point is 00:34:09 It got to be felt. It probably is a whole structure of like a, not just. It can't be no three million. It could be three. I take a 10 with the right percentages. Got you. Like, it ain't even got, I take a, I take a, probably like a cell, but the percentages. The percentages is important.
Starting point is 00:34:25 The paperwork got to be, man, come on, man. I need Johnny Cochran to look over their work. Nah, for real. That's what it's about, longevity. I don't know if that's going to happen with Johnny Cochran. Yeah, yeah, yeah, not Johnny Cochran, but because a lot of these people, they get the money. You offer me $2 million.
Starting point is 00:34:37 I'm still going after $2 million. My paperwork's so effed up. I don't eat now. I don't win. I can't feed my family. Then the $2 million is recoupable, so I got to give it back. You feel me? So, nah, man, I'm good eat now. I don't win. I can't feed my family Then the two million is recoup. What's I got to give it back if it's a man. I'm good man You think it's still a misconception that a southern folk is dumb. I Ain't done. I don't think you are
Starting point is 00:34:57 That's a lot of people say certain people don't Oh, yeah, they do say that No, they're saying they were talking about me yesterday and I read Some people at a bar cuz man fail shot a video for we good yesterday Oh, yeah, they do say that. That's what they were saying. They were talking about me yesterday in direct. Who? Some people at a bar. Because me and Fab shot a video for We Good yesterday. Okay. And they were talking about the way I talk.
Starting point is 00:35:11 I know I don't talk like a New Yorker. I know I talk like a Southern. You know what I mean? But that don't mean you're dumb. I don't mean you're breaking down percentages and, you know, what number you want. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, but, no, yeah, we do get that, though.
Starting point is 00:35:22 I don't know why they do stuff like that. I think Atlanta get it better than South Carolina. Now, y'all a little more country. No, I'm cool. I was going to say, y'all a little more country. Yeah, y'all a little more country. But never again. Listen, I love South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:35:34 You made a lot of money in South Carolina. I was just going to say that. Carolina? I love it. I would say nothing bad about Carolina. I love Carolina. Period. Word.
Starting point is 00:35:41 From the South and North. Both pay good, bro. Absolutely. Seattle Double-A is the best. Like, one of the best. Yeah. Weekends and my whole life. Oh, we do a party there every year. Word. From the South and North. Both pay good, bro. Absolutely. CIAA is the best. Like, one of the best weekends of my whole life. Oh, we do a party there every year. Man. A day party.
Starting point is 00:35:50 I love it. Listen, man. CIAA, bro. Everybody comes. Like, you know, you see how many people from Georgia come? It's getting bigger and bigger. Every year. Yeah, every year.
Starting point is 00:35:57 Every year. So, like, yeah, man, I have nothing bad to say about the Carolina. Other than, like, I don't like the football team. The Gamecocks? No, man. The Panthers? Yeah. I don't like the football team. The Gamecocks? No, man. The Panthers? Yeah. I don't like them either.
Starting point is 00:36:07 I'm a Cowboy fan. Oh. So, you know, I'm a Falcon fan. They win the same conference. But I like Cam Newton because he's from Georgia. So, like,
Starting point is 00:36:13 I do watch the game still. You know what I mean? Them and Cam, and Cam played the same part together. When y'all was little? Yeah, exactly. You used to play ball, right?
Starting point is 00:36:21 A wide receiver? Quarterback. Quarterback. Yeah, the Cam got too big. I was on the same side. I heard you was getting scholarships. I saw that on ESPN. You was getting scholarships off.
Starting point is 00:36:31 Yeah, in baseball. I was good in baseball. Baseball, I thought, was going to be my ticket. I still wish it could be. They pay more than rappers. I mean, they're in this sport. No, to be honest. They pay more than any sport.
Starting point is 00:36:43 But I was pretty good, though. Missed the baseball in ninth grade. So what happened? I had the conception of just being a street person, bro. You thought you was dope? Nah, you just don't want to leave. Fastballs, dayballs? What happened?
Starting point is 00:36:55 Now, you know, like, okay, I got accepted to this school, Fort Valley, which is in Georgia. That's a college. Yeah. Probably like, what do they call them, HBCU. So it's probably like an hour and a half out of the city. I'm so gone with in the city. I got to be in the city every day. I got to be around my home buds every day.
Starting point is 00:37:12 I don't want to go out and venture to do something new. Right. You know what I mean? Or even try to get them to come. I just want to stay home. And that's what it was. Stayed at home. Started breaking the house and went to jail.
Starting point is 00:37:22 Breaking the houses. Yeah. That was the hustle. Damn. That was the hustle. So you could have been on the houses. Yeah, that was the hustle. Damn. That was the hustle. So you could have been on the mound right now throwing for the Braves, making $300 million. A year.
Starting point is 00:37:32 But you just didn't want to leave for an hour and a half. That happens. That's a common story. I'm just being real, bro. I wanted to be so caught up in what's going on every day. And at that time, it might have been Facebook. That might have been the hottest thing out there. If I couldn't have a new outfit for Facebook, I wouldn't have studied.
Starting point is 00:37:45 I ain't even going to go to no school. My mama already struggling to feed three of us. You feel me? I'd rather stay here with her, help her as much as I can. What made you be a kick-door person as opposed to selling dope? That's what I got introduced to. I thought I was going to cut some grass one day. I went from cutting grass
Starting point is 00:38:02 to kicking dough. How did you get caught? The first time I went, really, man, I got caught. The first time I ever did, I was like, man,
Starting point is 00:38:09 these niggas so dumb. If they do it this way, it'll work. So I got out of jail that same, the next day. I did a burger ride to the house
Starting point is 00:38:17 that next Friday. So after that, I made like 10, 15,000 a week once I perfected it. What you was doing? Like stealing it and then going to pawn stuff?
Starting point is 00:38:24 Nah, see, in the South, flat screens were real hot perfected it. What you was doing? Like stealing it and then going to pawn stuff? Nah, see, in the South, flat screens were real hot at that time. TVs and electronics. Yeah, TVs and electronics were the most, you know what I mean? So if I got a 50-inch, that's 500,
Starting point is 00:38:33 40-inch, 400, et cetera, et cetera. So my thing was to, but like a lot of these girls was, because they would just put me on some of their dudes that would have made them mad or whatnot. Lord, have you done robbing so many Atlanta Hawks and Falcons? They probably retired now.
Starting point is 00:38:50 They probably retired now, but no, that was a hustle then, though, man. You know what I mean? It's nothing that I'm proud of because I'm proud of what I do now and I can look back at it like,
Starting point is 00:38:57 that was stupid of me. You ever get the urge to steal now? No. Like, you be in one of these nice-ass hotels, like, I take that flat. Man, I be so worried.
Starting point is 00:39:04 They take, man, listen, man, I'm in the hotel room. They steal from me flat man I be so worried they take man listen man I'm in the hotel room they steal from me they go in my room take my money out of my pocket but I say karma
Starting point is 00:39:09 yeah karma I say God just give me back a good thing ain't take none of my TVs out of my house you know what I'm saying but yeah just karma you do got a little
Starting point is 00:39:16 burglar look about you no I don't man you know what I mean you know what I mean you know what I mean you know what I mean you know what I mean you know what I mean
