I'm Jake Brennan, and on my podcast, Disgraceland, I tell the stories behind music's biggest names. Like how the story of the foo fighters isn't just about music. It's about grief, shock, in the moment everything changed. Imagine that.
Starting point is 00:01:54 You're in the biggest band on the planet, as Dave Grohl was in 1994 in Nirvana. And the phone rings. And you learn that your singer, your friend, the reluctant voice of a generation, Kurt Cobain, is dead. Listen to Disgraceland on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Today, on Front Page, Part 3, the final installment with Ian Dunlap. What to teach your kids, which careers are safe, and the math on AI that no one is doing out loud. So start small, do a little bit every day, do it together.
Starting point is 00:02:34 It's Tuesday, July 7th. From the Black Effect Podcast Network, I'm Mimi Brown. This is Promp Page. Stay with me. This is the close of our three-part series with Ian Dunlap, founder of Red Panda. Part one, we talked about the AI shift, who's getting hit, and why. Part two, the playbook, the pools, the prompts. Today, part three, the Longview.
Starting point is 00:03:00 What you should be teaching your kids right now, which careers are safe from AI, and what Ian believes we are all going to look back on in five years and realize we got wrong. Here is part three. And then we talked about kids, you know, college-age kids, but what should parents be teaching their kids right now? What skills should they be teaching their kids right now?
Starting point is 00:03:24 So as they get older, they're not left out of this moving AI trend. It's a great question. I think one of the best things a parent can do is take 10 minutes every day and go through these tools with their children. I think a lot of times as parents, we want to have these deep dives
Starting point is 00:03:40 because they weren't given to us. But I've learned, even with my son, less is more. So even when I started teaching him investing at three, it was one lesson a day and it may have been five minutes. Now at 11, I may go up to five or 10 minutes, but if I try and inundate him for 45 minutes, he doesn't want to hear it. So start small, do a little bit every day, do it together.
Starting point is 00:04:02 But you have to teach them technology. You have to teach them the importance of being able to read five to 10 pages a day. And I know some people think coding is really important, but with the prompting you're able to do in codex and perplexity, you have to teach them how to use these large language models to their benefit. And doing it together makes it a lot more fun.
Starting point is 00:04:27 So doing that every day, and then, of course, learning how to invest every day. Once again, going back, the Renaissance era was just a combination of careers being put together and then as industrialization came in, they made it specialize. We've always been great at being greater at a bunch of things.
Starting point is 00:04:44 So I think we're back to that chimera Renaissance era, teach them how to do a bunch of things at one time and they'll be okay in the job market when it's time for them to be placed. I love that. And how would you rank these language models right now? What's your favorite to use least to greatest? Or greatest to least, should I say?
Starting point is 00:05:02 I really like flawed. probably would be two. Perplexity would be one. Open AI used to be my favorite, but it's been a lot of missteps by Sam Altman and CEO, and I think it's affected the product. So I will put them as third.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Plexity, my friend Ty put me on two. It's just a wonderful piece of technology. So I start my day with perplexity. Then I go to Claude, and then I end off with ChatGBTGBT, even though I used to use that first. Okay, okay. And so the message I think you're sending here saying right here, Ian,
Starting point is 00:05:39 is don't be afraid of AI. Get in it, let it work for you, use it in your everyday business, or it will leave you behind, basically. You have to, it would be the same if in 2003 you said, well, I'm never going to use email. So you're going to go to the post office every day and write correspondence to send out the clients.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Like, they've made this thing, And the other part is you don't want to go against the wave of investment. They have spent, now we can say whether it's good or bad, but they have spent hundreds of billions of dollars into this technology. It's not going to go away. Between Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, Google, like even it was announced when Jensen was in Taipei, they put a, they want laptops to be the new agentic AI. and if Microsoft is able to pull off this partnership, it may be there.
Starting point is 00:06:37 Apple misstepped, and it was supposed to be on the phone, but now Microsoft went up as a result of the partnership with Nvidia. So if Nvidia, Microsoft, Arm, AMD, IBM, are all partnering for AI, is not going anywhere. We can talk about the ills of the data centers and how it's going to affect our drinking water supply and the ill effects of that, but the technology is not going anywhere. you need to be able to use it in order to be able to have freedom for your family. And as we wrap up, I wanted to know what careers would you encourage people to look into right now?
Starting point is 00:07:13 I think the careers are the safest. Doctors won't be replaced by AI. Nurses won't be replaced by AI. Construction. So my dad's been in construction 30 years. We talk all the time about this. He was like, if they have AI to be able to put on a roof, for hang drywall, I'll buy one, but it's not available.
Starting point is 00:07:35 And when we was at, in video, they have the robots for home use. They're a little bit clumsy, so they're not there yet. So all this fearmongering about it taking every job on Earth, that's not true. Mechanics, electricians, of course, investors. But if you're able to put your human touch on something, I think the cream always rises to the top. So just find ways to get better at your craft every single day. And even with me, when the influx of AI came in,
Starting point is 00:08:07 there was a bunch of people who thought, well, I can just do the same thing that you do with the AI and the results have not been the same. But chefs and there's a lot in health care that will not be disrupted by AI. But if you can learn how to use it for the back end stuff and be great at what you do, you'll be safe. You'll be safe.
Starting point is 00:08:26 I love those answers. And I wanted to know, you know, because we need some solutions. We need some optimism. But what gives you optimism at this moment we're in right now? I was talking to my mom about this thing before we came on. And she was like, we've been through so much worse. Like if you think of all the things that we've been through for the last two to 300 years, AI is the least of our concerns and how creative we are.
Starting point is 00:08:55 And I think for the first time in history, corporations are realizing they need our creativity, even though there are some forces that may be fighting against it. I look at Nike, for example, you lost Jalen Brown, you lost Kyrie, you lost Kanye, you lost D'Ansee, then you lost the company. The stock was devastated right now. So there's a certain Genesee Quas, certain spark that we have, even just in the wave of investing, being popular amongst our community since the start of the show, I've had a conversation with Black Rock and Vanguard. And I'm like, you guys have changed the landscape of what it looks
Starting point is 00:09:36 like to invest in to be black. And there's a bunch of other industries I think we're going to have the same effect in. So just having that spark. And then if you have belief in God, how are you upset over machines when they told you an I robot matrix and Determinated this was coming. Yep. Like your faith has to outweigh your fear. And I hate to see Christians be bogged down by fear if you truly believe. Because I'm like, you're not truly a believer if you think that's the case.
Starting point is 00:10:06 And the other part is they've overspent on AI. Just hypothetically, if you're spending $2 trillion on AI, okay. How are you going to get a $9 trillion return? Great. The math is not Mathington. Right. at all.
Starting point is 00:10:24 You can put up all the data centers you want to. And now we're seeing some companies start to say, maybe we need to ease up on our token budget for the year. So I think it is correct, and we'll get back to, we'll revert to the mean. But if you believe in God and believe in your skill set and your work ethic, you don't have anything to fear. Canadian women are looking for more.
Starting point is 00:10:49 More to themselves, their businesses, their elected leaders, and the world are of them. And that's why we're thrilled to introduce the Honest Talk Podcast. I'm Jennifer Stewart and I'm Catherine Clark and in this podcast we interview Canada's most inspiring women entrepreneurs artists athletes politicians and newsmakers all at different stages of their journey so if you're looking to connect then we hope you'll join us listen to the honest talk podcasts on iHeartRadio or wherever you listen to your podcasts hey I'm hodicotby host of the podcast joy 101 with Hoda Kotby okay if you know me you know this I'm always searching for inspiration
Starting point is 00:11:25 for support and useful tools to help maximize joy. So this podcast lets us uncover all of that together. We're going to have these meaningful conversations with the world's most fascinating people. Like when actress Olivia Munn shared how she overcame fierce health challenges that she never saw coming. I've gone through breast cancer and then helped my mother through breast cancer, and that was more difficult. There's a lot of people who understand postpartum depression. I was not prepared for postpartum anxiety. Olympic champ Sean Johnson revealed why she had no choice but to be a gymnast.
Starting point is 00:12:00 There was something about gymnastics that was intoxicating to me. It's given me a belief that we all have one of those treasures inside of us. We just have to find it. Listen to Joy 101 with Hoda Kotby on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. American soccer has exploded. The knockout rounds are here. The U.S. won their group, and now every match is winner go home. I'm Tad Ramos.
Starting point is 00:12:34 And I'm Tom Boger. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, we'll talk about the real storylines. I'm not worried about Policic. I'm not worried about Balagan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. And give you the truth about the U.S. national team from inside the program.
Starting point is 00:12:53 It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. Whether you're a lifelong fan or this is a year, your first World Cup. We've got you covered. Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos and the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. Hey, everyone, it's the Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:13:17 If you haven't heard, our new podcast is called Hey Jonas. And this week, we're hanging out with someone we're really big fans of. Millie Bobby Brown. That's right. Eleven herself. We talk about her new movie, Anola Holmes 3, Family Life, and all the amazing things she has going on right now. This blew my mind when it.
Starting point is 00:13:33 I saw this, Millie Bobby Brown. You have over 60 animals. First of all, how do you even keep track of everybody? And second, do you have favorites? Who are they and why? Yeah, I need to know about this. Okay. I don't know where the number's 60,
Starting point is 00:13:46 and I really got to figure that out, and I could actually have over 60. I just need to really know that number. There have been plenty of sheep in my bed, and yeah, I'm in the bed. In the bed, literally sleeping in the bed, yeah. Plus, we find out what she really feels about Stranger Things ending.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Five seasons. almost 10 years of your life. I could have never have guessed it. I started when I was 10 years old. Our conversation with Millie Bobby Brown is out now. Go check it out. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:14:20 All right. And last question, five years from now, what do you think people will realize they misunderstood about AI? I think they misunderstood. That's a great question. How long is going to, take to reshape what the workforce looks like?
Starting point is 00:14:40 Because you can't lay off, if you lay off 30,000 people, do you think Claude and Open AI has the resource and capacity to do the work of 30,000 people? No, I don't.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Not at this time. Number two, I think people will have missed the opportunity to get in on the ground floor to learn these technologies and not be left behind. Are we at the talent at 10th? I think we're going to have the technological tent in our community for those who adapted really quickly and learn how to do these things and deploy those assets to other companies.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Number three, the fear was overhyped. Number four, the spending was overhyped. Would there be a lot of great companies that emerge from this? Yes. At the same time, debt to GDP is the highest that has ever been, and the valuation of the stock market is the highest. this ever been, some of these companies are going to fall apart. And also going back to Elon, if SpaceX is so valuable and 400, 100 millionaires are made, why do you have to change the rules to make 401Ks pick it up if it's that valuable?
Starting point is 00:15:55 So the math to me is the math thing. Because for me, if I'm going to go public, I wouldn't need to tell them to put it in a 401 case. I would just let the retail investors pick it up. So that tells me there are some weakness in the market that is not being revealed yet. And I think in 2027, some things start to unravel and the truth will be there. But I don't think you have anything to fear. Use it. Have deep belief in God.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Have deep belief in your craft and working on your crafts every day. And you'd be okay. That's part three in the close of our AI in your paycheck series with Ian Dunlap. Three episodes, one message, AI is not waiting for you. The next wealth gap may not be about who has money. It may be about who knows how to use AI. If this series helped you, share it with someone who needs to hear it. That's your front page.
