Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey y'all, Niminy here. I'm the host of a brand new history podcast for kids and families called Historical Records. The crack of the bat and another one gone. The tip of the cap, there's another one gone. Each episode is about a different inspiring figure from history. Like this one about Claudette Colvin, a 15-year-old girl in Alabama who refused to give up her seat on the city bus nine whole months before Rosa Parks did the same thing. Check it. And it began with me. Did you know, did you know? I wouldn't give up my seat. Nine months before Rosa, it was called a gold mine. Get the kids in your life excited about history by tuning in to Historical Records.

Starting point is 00:02:19 or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, guys. I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what my podcast, Post Run High, is all about. It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together. Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, everyone. This is Courtney Thorne-Smith, Laura Layton, and Daphne Zuniga. On July 8,
Starting point is 00:03:07 1992, apartment buildings with pools were never quite the same as Melrose Place was introduced to the world. We are going to be reliving every hookup, every scandal, and every single wig removal together. So listen to Still the Place on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Ha ha ha ha Good morning, USA! And weekend is here. What's happening? I've been taking naps all week. I'm taking a nap today and wake up late tomorrow just to go out tomorrow night. Where you going tomorrow night? Don't worry about it. Oh, I'm going to Andrew Schultz.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Andrew Schultz comedy show. He's so proud to say, don't worry about it. No, no. Andrew Schultz's comedy show, Radio City Music Hall, two sold-out shows. Okay. He'll be there tomorrow night. Shout out to Andrew Schultz. Yeah, so I had to take naps all week just to be prepared to hit the town on Saturday night. You don't do the eggs for the kids on Easter?
Starting point is 00:04:49 Easter is Sunday. But you got to put the eggs out. Do you do that on the weekend? That's done. That's done. Done, done. Done. Done.
Starting point is 00:04:55 That's when you have a... That's what the CEO of the house handles. And what happens with the eggs after that? Well, there's treats in it. There's candy in them. There's sometimes money in them. I thought you were talking about real eggs. No, no, no. You know how they paint the eggs after that? Well, there's treats in it. There's candy in them. There's sometimes money in them. I thought you were talking about real eggs. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:05:05 You know how they paint the eggs? So in the house or in the yard, we put eggs all over the place and the kids run out and they go try to find as many eggs as they can. There's usually candy, chocolate, sometimes money,
Starting point is 00:05:16 depending on what, you know. Yeah, and you get up and do that on Sunday morning. You don't do that the night before. The animals will take them eggs. The plastic eggs? Oh, you do plastic? Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I guess we do plastic too. What kind of eggs are you doing? My wife does do plastic. You're right. You're right. My wife does take them eggs. The plastic eggs? Oh, you do plastic? Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:05:25 I guess we do plastic too. What kind of eggs are you doing? You're right. My wife does do plastic eggs. Hey, but you get up and do that on Sunday morning. Yeah, well.
Starting point is 00:05:32 We'll see. I do that each and every Easter. Each and every Easter. That beard looks so drawn on this morning. What's the artist's name? Envy's been doing
Starting point is 00:05:41 a press run for his book. Really? Yeah. So he's got to make sure that his beard is right. Fresh paint. Fresh paint. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:48 And I actually filmed lip service last night, and Envy's wife, Gia, was on. Yeah, she came back with a t-shirt that you gave her as a gift. What did the t-shirt say? No more fake orgasms. Okay. And MFO. I like the movement. You like the movement?
Starting point is 00:06:03 And MFO. I like that. Because she was faking orgasms for years For like a decade It wasn't a decade Does that trigger you It does Oh she told us
Starting point is 00:06:11 11 years You talked to that With your therapist It wasn't 11 years Did you and the therapist Talk about that No Okay
Starting point is 00:06:16 I can see how that'd be a trigger I'm not gonna lie It triggered me for some reason It did It did Okay That was a long time ago I haven't orgasmed
Starting point is 00:06:23 In 11 years with you either How long you working together 12 It's true though I haven't orgasmed in 11 years with you either. How long have you been working together? 12? It's true, though. I haven't. You know what that means? Well, y'all got something in common.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Goodness gracious. Well, we got some special guests. I was going to say, when I think of it, yeah, I haven't orgasmed in 12 years either. I've been working with Envy 12 for 12 years and never orgasmed in my damn self. It's the same struggle. It's the same struggle. I understand. Goodness gracious. Maybe we should get him a t-shirt too, Ye the same struggle. It's the same struggle. I understand. Goodness gracious. Maybe we should get him a t-shirt too, Yee.
Starting point is 00:06:47 All right, let's see what we can do. Goodness gracious. Everyone's mad at you. You got to be a stupid-ass man to fake an orgasm. I can see how women fake orgasms. Men have faked orgasms. But you know how dumb men look faking orgasms? How?
Starting point is 00:06:58 What do you do? Do that again. Because something got to come out. Do that again. You can't really fake it when you're a man because the woman is waiting for something to come out. Unless you're wearing a condom you're a man. Because the woman is waiting for something to come out. Unless you're wearing a condom. It's freaky, freaky, freaky, freaky.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Do that voice again. So that's what it sounds like. When you're faking it, it does. Oh my goodness. All right, well let's get the show cracking. Garcelle Beauvais will be joining us this morning. I'm sure you didn't pronounce her name right. I did.
Starting point is 00:07:24 You did? Yeah. Okay. You did? Yeah. Okay. We practiced that one. Sac passe. I made Envy go over that pronunciation like 30 times. I practiced.
Starting point is 00:07:31 One more time. How do you say it, Envy? I practiced that one. Garcelle Beauvais. She has a new book out called Love Me As I Am. And you know her as Fancy from the Jamie Foxx show.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Also from one of the hosts on The Real. And also from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Coming to America. She was one of the young ladies throwing the and also from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Coming to America. She was one of the young ladies throwing the flower petals. Coming to America.
Starting point is 00:07:49 One and two. I think she was in two as well. A rose bearer priestess. Mm-hmm. All right. Well, let's get the show cracking. Front page news, what are we talking about?
Starting point is 00:07:56 Taxes. Oh, God. Why you got to start there? Lord have mercy. Goodness gracious. This is practical information. God damn. Go back into the fake orgasm.
Starting point is 00:08:04 That's how I be acting with the IRS. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. Sit by myself. Good morning, everybody. It's DJ, MV, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are the Breakfast Club. What's happening, man?
Starting point is 00:08:20 Let's get some front page news. What's wrong with you, man? Somebody just sent me. I just been sitting here the past couple of days and I just opened it. And it's a self-care kit. It's sage in here and Palo Santo and beads. Thank you to whoever sent this. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Well, let's start it up. Kia B. Hey, Kia B. What up, Kia B? Well, let's talk about taxes. The deadline is on Monday. So let's not forget. Usually it's the 15th, which is today.
Starting point is 00:08:48 But the deadline is April 18th. So you can request an extension. Remember, you have to do something. You can't do nothing. Can't ignore it. Yes. So if you do need to file an extension because you don't have it together, you have until October 17th to file your taxes.
Starting point is 00:09:02 But you have to submit that form by April 18th or print the form and mail it to the IRS for your state. And you have to make sure it's postmarked by April 18th also. All right, so filing for an extension does not mean you can delay paying the taxes that you owe. So remember, you don't just get more time to pay. That's not true. If you owe taxes, payments are still due.
Starting point is 00:09:23 And that payment is still due on April 18th on Monday. So you can also get a payment plan. So just remember to handle things. Yeah, you're going to need one of these self-care kit boxes that I got. To manage your stress and reduce your anxiety. Okay? Because them taxes ain't no joke. But you know what, man?
Starting point is 00:09:38 The beauty of taxes, you know, as you get older, you just realize you got to put stuff to the side. You know, and you're making a little bit throughout the year. If you can, put it to the side because you're going to it a little bit throughout the year if you can put it to the side cause you're gonna have to spend it anyway well some people get money back some people do
Starting point is 00:09:48 yeah a lot of people get money back oh god bless y'all on their taxes so yeah look Nick our camera guy raised his hand he gets money back
Starting point is 00:09:54 god bless y'all some people ain't gotta pay like Donald Trump and god bless them too Jeff Bezos gets money back
Starting point is 00:10:02 god bless them too if you find if you find a way to figure that out, God bless you. Well, a lot of people get taxes just taken out of their paycheck, and then at the end of the year, they get their... I do that. All right, now Meta, the Metaverse,
Starting point is 00:10:13 they plan to take a nearly 50% cut on virtual asset sales in the Metaverse. So Facebook, that's the parent company for Meta. They're taking all of that money on the sale of those digital assets on its virtual reality platform, Horizon Worlds. So a lot of people were very upset about that. It's really a 47.5% cut on each transaction. So there's a hardware platform fee of 30% for sales that are made through the MetaQuest store, where it sells apps and games for the virtual reality headset. And then on top of that, Horizon Worlds charges a 17.5% fee.
Starting point is 00:10:48 A lot of people were angered in the NFT community. One person wrote on Twitter, I hate you, Facebook. And another person said, if Meta wants 47.5% of NFT sales, they got to talk to the IRS because I don't even have that after taxes. Yeah, but are people making money like that off NFTs on Meta? Yeah, people are people making money like that off NFTs on Meta? Yeah. Yeah, people are selling things on there.
Starting point is 00:11:07 Well, I mean, but what's the money like? Can we see how much Jack NFT worth now? You know what I mean? So is it like real big money? So I don't even know why Facebook would be
Starting point is 00:11:14 messing with them. Like, the only reason if I was Facebook and I wanted 47%, then they're making multi-millions of dollars, I guess. Now, Apple charges
Starting point is 00:11:22 developers a 30% fee for in-app purchases on the App Store and people had complaints about that but this Meta Horizon Worlds situation is significantly more than what Apple charges developers on the App Store.
Starting point is 00:11:37 Alright, well that is your front page news. I do want to salute this young lady though, Kia B. Transform LLC. She sent a self-care kit for all of us. She said that I have to share. That's what she literally says.
Starting point is 00:11:50 She says, Charlemagne, yes, you have to share because she wants us to be able to cleanse the space in the office when we feel the need to. That's what she said because she always hears me talk about how important it is to keep your energy cleansed and renewed. Well, shout out to Kia B. Yeah, salute to Kia B. Thank you, Kia B. Transform.
Starting point is 00:12:04 Transform me, LLC. Alright. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, you can hit us up right now. Phone lines are wide open. Again, 800-585-1051. Hit us up right now. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.

Starting point is 00:16:11 Listen to Haunting on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey there, I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist who studies human behavior. On my podcast, A Slight Change of Plans, I marry science and storytelling to better understand how to navigate the big changes in our lives. It was like a slow nightmare, you know, because every day you think, oh, surely tomorrow I'll be better. And I would dream of being better. At night I would dream that my face was quote-unquote normal or back to the way it was and I'd wake up and there'd be no change.
Starting point is 00:16:49 I also speak with scientists about how we can be more resilient in the face of change. You can think of the adolescent brain as like the social R&D engine of our culture. That they're something that looks like risky and idiotic to us is maybe their way of creatively trying to solve the problem of having social success and fewer of the things that bring you social failure listen to a slight change of plans on the iHeartRadio app apple podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts

You can only say you don't want something if you can actually get it. Make sure you listen this morning to Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:23:59 Don't do him like that. He just loves his band. Hello, who's this? Hello, this is Carlos. How you doing? Carlos, good morning. Get it off your chest. Hey, first, I'd like to thank all you guys for what you do.
Starting point is 00:24:08 I listen to you guys every morning. I love the show. I just wanted to get off my chest, man. I lost my military service dog two weeks ago, and things have been kind of rough, you know. And I just want to salute all the veterans out there that serve this country because, you know, after we get home from the war, we go through a lot of stuff that people don't know, man, and it's very stressful for us, man, out here.
Starting point is 00:24:31 This country treats y'all terribly. I think that any veteran should get free room and board. Y'all should get a stipend every month, you know, so y'all can pay y'all bills and, you know, get food. Y'all should have free health care. Like, they treat y'all terribly, man.. Y'all should have free healthcare. They treat y'all terribly, man. Absolutely. They really do. If you guys don't mind,
Starting point is 00:24:52 can I throw my cash app out there? I'm trying to get a new dog right now and everything. The price is a little high to get them trained. My cash app is Royal Fish Aquatic. R-O-Y-A-L F-I-S-H R-O-Y-A-L-F-I-S-H-A-Q-U-A-T-I-C-S. Why Royal Fish?
Starting point is 00:25:11 I like fish, too. It has helped me with my mental health. I have a couple of aquariums in my house. Uh-huh. And I like breathing and keeping fish, too, because at night when I can't sleep, you know, I just sit there and just look at my fish
Starting point is 00:25:25 tanks and everything and it actually helps me for life to not think of the past. Nice and peaceful. Alright, so your cash app is Royal Fish. What's the end of it? Aquatic. Aquatic, okay. Yeah, Aquatic's with an S at the end. Aquatics. Royal Fish
Starting point is 00:25:42 Aquatics. Alright, and what do service dogs cost? The German Shepherd, they run about $1,000 to $1,500, and then they charge us another $1,000 to get them trained for us. I have PTSD, so they got to get them specifically trained for my condition. Gotcha. Oh, so you got an emotional support dog. Service dog.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Yeah. Yeah, but we don't consider an emotional support dog service dog yeah yeah but we don't consider it emotional support because you know when we have flashbacks you know most people they just they have these little tiny dogs and and they they just fake it you know but um when we have flashbacks or a mind completely goes somewhere else these dogs know how to distract us and really get us back to normal and everything. They really help us with a lot of things throughout the day, you know. True.
Starting point is 00:26:32 I mean, the one I had, I had him for 11 years. I did not know I was going to miss him after he passed away. I did not know how much I needed him. Right. Wow. And these last two weeks has been, you know, AC double L for me really bad, you know. I get it, my brother. Well, hopefully we can provide you some help
Starting point is 00:26:47 this morning, man. I appreciate everything, guys. Thank you, man. Have a good one, bro. Have a good weekend. Y'all too. Have a blessed weekend. You too.
Starting point is 00:26:55 Wow. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, you can hit us up. Now we got rumors on the way? Yes, DaBaby, we do have an update
Starting point is 00:27:02 on what happened at his compound. We told you somebody was shot. We'll give you some more details. Alright, we'll get into that next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela
Starting point is 00:27:17 Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club. Let's get to the rumors. Let's talk Archie. This is The Rumor Report with Angela Yee. Rumor has it. Rumor, rumor, rumor. On The Breakfast Club. So listen up.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Atlanta-based rapper Archie Eversol, Arthur Archie Eversol, has passed away. He was shot on March 25th, and he died from his injuries on April 3rd, according to the police. He was best known for We Ready. Listen to this. We ready. We ready for y'all. Now that song was the anthem of Atlanta's professional soccer team, Atlanta United. And he was a huge fan of Atlanta United as well. They also posted a heartfelt tribute in light of his death.
Starting point is 00:28:15 They wrote on Twitter, a staple in the Atlanta hip-hop scene. Archie adapted Atlanta United before our first season and continued to be one of our club's most fervent supporters. In addition to his decorated musical career, his voice will long live in our supporters' minds as we ready billows through the speakers for kickoff at Atlanta United matches. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends. Now, his brother has been charged. He was originally charged with aggravated assault. However, he now does face murder charges after Archie passed away.
Starting point is 00:28:44 He was taken into custody without incident. His brother is Alexander Krauss. That record was huge, too. I mean, because he used to license it to a lot of teams. The NFL had it in commercials. Baseball teams used to use it.
Starting point is 00:29:00 So I wonder what the money was with that record. I mean, that was a sample of the... I don't know if it was considered a sample, but the na-na-na-na, hey, hey, hey, goodbye. So I don't know. But it's a tragic, tragic situation. All right, and more details have come to light, and this is involving the shooting that took place
Starting point is 00:29:18 on the baby's property in North Carolina earlier in the week. According to TMZ, they're saying that the baby exchanged words with an intruder who hot the fence onto his property and the baby ended up shooting him in the leg after that person did breach a fence surrounding his mansion. They said the baby called 911, was cooperative with officers once they arrived on the scene. Now, the town manager, Ron Wyatt, said the baby stays at the home periodically and it's impossible to stumble on the property by accident. One of the baby's relatives is reportedly listed as the owner of the estate, which is surrounded by a large wall and manned by security guards. I mean, I don't hear nothing wrong.
Starting point is 00:29:57 This is exactly what firearms are for, to protect you and your property. I got a gated property to keep people away and you have defense. And I already had incidents before where people have attacked me. That is a firearm being used in the right way. With that said, the good brother of the baby needs to do some energy cleansing. Why does he keep attracting these kind of issues? That good brother needs a salt bath
Starting point is 00:30:16 and a good smudging with the strongest sage money can buy. Alright, and now let's take it to Mary J. Blige. Some positivity. She'll be getting the Icon Award at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. I'm surprised she hasn't gotten that already, but congratulations to her. She's won 10 Billboard Music Awards, and she'll also be performing at the show. That will be broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Vegas on Sunday, May 15th.
Starting point is 00:30:42 She is the 11th artist to receive the Icon Award. Drop on the clues bombs for Mary J. Blige, damn it. Other recipients have been Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Prince, J-Lo, Celine Dion, Cher, Janet Jackson, Mariah, Garth Brooks, and Pink. Alright, I'm Angela Yee, and
Starting point is 00:31:00 that is your Rumor Report. Alright, thank you, Miss Yee. Now we got front page news, what we talking about? Yes, a new COVID test has been approved by the FDA. This might be more simple than swabbing up your nose. All right. The anal swab was pretty simple too, right, Envy? I never tried.
Starting point is 00:31:16 Have you? Oh, okay. I thought you told me you did. No. It's Freaky Freaky Friday. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:31:25 Your mornings will never be the same. I teamed up with Zyrtec for this allergy relief message. Springtime brings vibrancy to the air and pollen, so I take Zyrtec when allergy symptoms start. Save the tissues and live vibrantly with Zyrtec. Starts working at hour one and stays strong day after day. WWPR-FM HD1 New York. And iHeart Radio Station.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Let me put a little bit of The Breakfast Club up in your lifestyle. DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. You're rockin' with the best. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Let's get into front page news. So I'm confused.
Starting point is 00:32:14 The play-ins, right? I thought once the team won, they made it to the playoffs. But Atlanta beat Charlotte, and now Atlanta has to play Cleveland today. Yes, because that is for the eighth spot. Yeah. So Brooklyn Nets only had to win once. They had to win once because they had beat Atlanta a couple. No, they beat Cleveland a couple times in the regular season, right? Whoever won the playoff game.
Starting point is 00:32:41 Whoever won the Brooklyn-Cleveland game got the seventh seed, and whoever wins the Charlotte-Atlanta game tonight gets the eighth seed. Eighth seed. Okay. All right. Well, tonight Atlanta takes on Cleveland at 730 and New Orleans takes off the Clippers at 10. For Michael Jordan's liver's sake, I hope that the Charlotte Hornets win because, boy, you can tell when they don't win, he drinks heavily.
Starting point is 00:32:58 They're not playing. The Hornets are done. Who you say playing tonight? I said New Orleans and the Clippers. Oh. Okay. I don't know why I said the Hornets and the Hawks. Mm-mm.
Starting point is 00:33:07 All right. So the Hawks in the playoffs? The Hawks are playing the Cleveland. Oh, Hawks playing Cleveland. Got you, got you, got you, got you, got you, got you. So the Hawks in Cleveland playing with an eight spot in the east. Pelicans and Clippers playing with an eight spot in the west. Got you.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Okay. Sorry, Michael Jordan. Have your drink. What else we got here? All right. The FDA has authorized their first COVID breath test. It's a breathalyzer about the size
Starting point is 00:33:29 of a piece of carry-on luggage and it can be used in medical offices and mobile testing sites and it can give results in less than three minutes. If you have a choice, maybe you rather do that. The swab of the nose isn't as bad as it used to be though. Some of y'all breath smell like you got something.
Starting point is 00:33:45 I don't know what it is, but I guarantee you it's going to be picking up all types of diseases. You said it's the size of a small luggage, so people can't buy it because it's too big. No, it's for use like at a mobile site for an expert to do. It's not for like at home by yourself. Some of y'all breath smell like you need to see a doctor. At the least it did us.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Okay? And they said it accurately identified more than 91% of positive samples and nearly 100% of negative samples. I know what root canal oil smells like. You know what that smells like? Okay. There's also two new Omicron variants that are spreading in New York and in other places as well. They said that variant appears to be causing, well, those variants appear to be causing a small surge in cases in central New York state, according to the Department of Health. So that's BA212 and BA212-1.
Starting point is 00:34:30 And they're very closely related to the BA2 variant, a version of Omicron that caused surges across Europe and is now dominant across the U.S. They said the two new variants now comprise 90% of cases in central New York. All these variants. Right? I don't know. I guess this is definitely something we live with. And legal weed sales in New Jersey are beginning April
Starting point is 00:34:52 21st, according to Governor Phil Murphy. Which is stupid. Why is that stupid? Why wouldn't they do it April 20th? 420 is the day. That's the day you make it legal. That is very true. That's the day you make it legal. Now you're thinking with a marketing mind. I like that. 4 day you make it legal. That is very true. That's the day you make it legal. I like that. Now you're thinking with a marketing mind. I like that. 420, you make it legal.
Starting point is 00:35:08 Governor Murphy. 420. He's got a point, Governor Murphy. What the hell's your problem? One day. Come on. People age 21 and over will be able to purchase cannabis and cannabis products without a medical card on that date. And seven medical marijuana dispensaries in New Jersey were given the green light to sell
Starting point is 00:35:23 recreational weed at 13 locations. That's stupid, too. 13 locations inaries in New Jersey were given the green light to sell recreational weed at 13 locations. That's stupid, too. Why is that stupid? 13 locations in the whole New Jersey? 13. Do you know how low them lines are going to be? They should have just allowed everybody that does medicinal to just do recreational. It depends who's going to buy illegal weed on that day, though.
Starting point is 00:35:40 You know? Now, everybody's not going to just make the transition to going to buy illegal weed immediately. It's going to take them a little while. But they still got that guy. Yeah. Okay. It's going to take them a little while. But I still got that guy. Yeah. Okay. It's going to take them a while. But 420 should have been the day today.
Starting point is 00:35:49 Absolutely. And it's a Wednesday, a random Wednesday. Yes. All right. Now, millions of Americans are resorting to risky ways now to try to buy an affordable home. So land contracts and other kinds of alternative financing have been around a long time. And that all is rooted in the race-based redlining that blocked black Americans from traditional mortgages. So land contracts and other kinds of alternative financing have been around a long time. And that all is rooted in the race-based redlining that blocked black Americans from traditional mortgages.
Starting point is 00:36:15 But they become a lot more common after the Great Recession and as housing and rental costs have skyrocketed. So for some people, that's their only option. But these deals also pose a financial risk to families with the least to lose for many American families. They said homeownership has been the largest source of wealth over the past century. Mortgages are a key step to achieving that financial security. Land contracts are a really difficult thing to do. Wouldn't you agree, Envy? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Because sometimes, like, if you miss a payment, that's it. Yeah. And then the property goes right back to the original person, and there's nothing you could really do about it. Yeah, I always say they try to make these laws and regulations to help minorities and help black and brown people. But most of the time, it's not really to help. It's never really to help. All right. They're saying that about 20% of all borrowers have used alternative ways to finance a home at some point.
Starting point is 00:37:01 And the borrowers are largely low income, more likely to live in rural areas, and disproportionately Hispanic and black, which reflects the racial gap in home ownership. And unlike mortgages, alternative financing deals are usually not recorded with any government office. They don't start with a bank or a mortgage company. And so they're not subject to the same state or federal regulations. So just be careful. I know a lot of people are thinking about home ownership right now. But if you can't do things in a way that is really safe and secure and stable, it might not be the right time. Yeah. I always tell people look like, look at hard money lenders, like a shark, right? They're going to give you the money based on the deal. And the reason they give you the money based
Starting point is 00:37:38 on the deal is because if you can't pay or there's an issue as their problem, they're going to take that property because they know they got equity in that property. So if you ain't got your ducks lined up and you don't know really what to do and how to do it right, just make sure you stay away from it or ask somebody who does. I like how you use all those aquatic animals. You said a shark, you said a duck.
Starting point is 00:37:55 I like that. Thank you. All right, and remember, a verbal contract is not binding, okay? So if somebody makes an agreement with you verbally and you don't have it in writing, a lot of times an attorney with Southeastern Ohio Legal Services says that handwritten notes just don't pass in most cases. And some people think that if you make an agreement, that's binding verbally, but that's not true.
Starting point is 00:38:16 All right. Well, that is your Front Page News. All right. Thank you, Miss Yee. Now, when we come back, Garcelle Beauvais will be joining us. Actress, author, you know her from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. And The Real. And The Real. She was fancy in the Jamie Foxx show. So we're going to talk to her when we come back.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Guys, don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Hey, guys. I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs,

Starting point is 00:39:42 Hi, I'm Marie. And I'm Sydney. And we're Mess. Well, not a mess, but on our podcast called Mess, we celebrate all things messy. But the gag is not everything is a mess. Sometimes it's just living. Yeah, things like J-Lo on her third divorce. Living. Girls trip to Miami. Mess.
Starting point is 00:40:02 Ozempic. Messy, skinny living. Restaurant stealing a birthday Miami. Mess. Ozempic. Messy, skinny living. Restaurant stealing a birthday cake. Mess. Wait, what flavor was the cake though? Okay, that's a good question. Hooking up with someone in accounting and then getting a promotion. Living.
Starting point is 00:40:17 Breaking up with your girlfriend while on Instagram Live. Living. It's kind of mess. Yeah. Well, you get it. Got it? Live, love of mess. Yeah. Well, you get it. Got it? Live, love, mess. Listen to Mess with Sydney Washington and Marie Faustin on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:40:36 Hey, what's up? This is Ramses Jha. And I go by the name Q Ward. And we'd like you to join us each week for our show Civic Cipher. That's right. We're going to discuss social issues, especially those that affect black and brown people, but in a way that informs and empowers all people to hopefully create better allies. Think of it as a black show for non-black people.
Starting point is 00:40:54 We discuss everything from prejudice to politics to police violence, and we try to give you the tools to create positive change in your home, workplace, and social circle. Exactly. Whether you're black, Asian, White, Latinx, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, you name it. If you stand with us, then we stand with you. Listen to Civic Cipher every Saturday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey there, my little creeps. It's your favorite ghost host, Teresa. And guess what? Haunting is back, dropping just in time for spooky season. Now I know you've probably been wandering the mortal plane, wondering when I'd be back to
Starting point is 00:41:50 fill your ears with deliciously unsettling stories. Well, wonder no more, because we've got a ghoulishly good lineup ready for you. Let's just say things get a bit extra. We're talking spirits, demons, and the kind of supernatural chaos that'll make your spooky season complete. You know how much I love this time of year. It's the one time I'm actually on trend. So grab your pumpkin spice, dust off that Ouija board,
Starting point is 00:42:16 just don't call me unless it's urgent, and tune in for new episodes every week. Remember, the veils are thin, the stories are spooky, and your favorite ghost host is back and badder than ever. Listen to Haunting on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey there, I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist who studies human behavior. On my podcast, A Slight Change of Plans,
Starting point is 00:42:46 I marry science and storytelling to better understand how to navigate the big changes in our lives. It was like a slow nightmare, you know, because every day you think, oh, surely tomorrow I'll be better. And I would dream of being better. At night, I would dream that my face was, quote unquote, normal or back to the way it was. And I'd wake up and there'd be no change.
Starting point is 00:43:09 I also speak with scientists about how we can be more resilient in the face of change. You can think of the adolescent brain as like the social R&D engine of our culture, that they're something that looks like risky and idiotic to us is maybe their way of creatively trying to solve the problem of having social success and fewer of the things that bring you social failure. Listen to A Slight Change of Plans on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club. We got a special guest in the building. Yes, indeed. She's an actress, an author, and you've probably seen her in Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Starting point is 00:43:53 And a model. And a model. Can't forget model. Garcelle Beauvais. Welcome. Thank you. Sac passe. I love it.
Starting point is 00:44:01 Hi. Good morning. Good morning. I'm happy to be here. How's your energy? Great. Okay. Yeah, I'm still on LA time.
Starting point is 00:44:08 I'm a little, you know, I'm getting through it. Okay. How's your energy? I've never had anybody say that. Well, no, I think that's a very important question to ask. You know, people say, how you doing? And when you say, how you doing? It's kind of like a generic thing to ask.
Starting point is 00:44:20 Yeah. People give generic answers. So you say, how's your energy? And sometimes you don't even hear it. That's right. So when you say, how's your energy? You got to really think about it. Like, oh. I love that. Because you gave a real answer. You're like, I'm your energy? And sometimes you don't even hear it. That's right. So when you say, how's your energy, you got to really think about it. Like, oh.
Starting point is 00:44:26 I love that. Because you gave a real answer. You're like, I'm still on the other time. Yeah. But I'm good. My energy is great. I feel grounded and happy and grateful. I got it from my therapist.
Starting point is 00:44:34 Run with it. OK. Good. I will. I mean, people call you fancy. That was the first time. Oh, my gosh. All the time.
Starting point is 00:44:40 All the time. We know you as fancy. Yeah. For so long. All the time. No, I love Fancy. Yeah. All the time. No, I love it because I feel like as a performer, you want people to relate to something. So I hate when I hear people go,
Starting point is 00:44:52 I don't want to be called that. But it's like everybody connected to that show and to that character. So it's a good thing. I saw you and Jamie Foxx had a discussion too about you would be open under the right circumstances to bring back the Jamie Foxx show. I would. I would. We had a blast.
Starting point is 00:45:08 I mean, that's when, you know, Jamie was, you know, he was still doing stand-up and traveling while we were doing that show, but we connected. I would love to do it. I'd go back in a heartbeat and do a reboot. What did people think of black cinema back then? We didn't have enough of it. You know, we didn't have enough of it.
Starting point is 00:45:24 We weren't really represented. We weren't really seen like that, you know, back then. I think have enough of it yeah you know we didn't have enough of it we weren't really representing we weren't really seen like that you know back then I think we as the community wanted more stuff with us in it but Hollywood wasn't really up to up to speed back then that's crazy even with Eddie Murphy being the biggest star period black or white black or white period I remember like Beverly Hills Cop. When that came out, that was huge. Did you get paid much back then? Not at all. No.
Starting point is 00:45:48 I mean, you were lucky to be. Did you get paid at all? Yeah, exactly. Per diem? Yeah, per diem for sure. You got $30 or something a day. But it was the experience for me. I had never been on a set where there were real actors.
Starting point is 00:46:03 It wasn't just a music video or something like that. Before we get to the book, I always wondered why did you decide to do Housewives of Beverly Hills? Like what was what got you into that? What got me into it was a few things. First of all, I was a fan of the franchise and I obviously had friends in Beverly Hills. But as an as an actor, I was traveling so much. My kids were about to go to middle school, as it is because I'm divorced. I have them half of the time and I really wanted to do something As an actor, I was traveling so much. My kids were about to go to middle school. As it is, because I'm divorced, I have them half of the time. And I really wanted to do something that was going to keep me in L.A.
Starting point is 00:46:33 So that was a big factor in it. Did it remind you that some of the franchises, they fight, they argue, they call each other names? Yeah, that was tough for me. I mean, it's still tough for me. That's the hardest part of the job because we're supposed to be friends. We're supposed to be adults. Well, that too. But we're supposed to be friends and sometimes it's like I wouldn't be friends with somebody who can throw me
Starting point is 00:46:49 under the bus too. So that's the challenge for me on the show. Do you ever wish a mother f***er would on that show? Sometimes. What? Yes, she did. I bet she was triggered about something. What are you gonna do the book
Starting point is 00:47:05 is here lovely as i am and i was wondering do you feel like um i feel like god looked out for you a lot even just you getting into modeling and the whole way that it happened it was like destiny fate but then it has to be god too i agree agree. I mean, God all the way through, good and bad, even the things that were hard for me or brought me to my knees, I needed those things to get to the other side of it. And I feel like, yeah, for sure, my whole career is based on my perseverance and tenacity because I went after a lot on my own. But for sure, God was with me the entire way even when
Starting point is 00:47:46 I was going through just found out that you know I was betrayed in my marriage I remember driving to the beach because that's the place I feel like I can get grounded and and I remember hearing you're exactly where you're supposed to be even in the midst of the pain that I was going through and I had to believe that and i feel like if i hadn't gone through that i wouldn't be where i am right now so god is everything absolutely yeah i don't even like to say god is good because chick-fil-a is good great you know my kids love chick-fil-a i love you too everybody now if you could ask your mother some things that you never had a chance to ask her, what are some questions that you would want to know?
Starting point is 00:48:27 You know, I want I would have loved to have known where she got her strength from, you know, to be a single mom, to bring us to the United States on her own. I would have loved to have found out, like what she loved about my dad, because I feel like when when parents get divorced, get divorced, if you're only living with one parent, you only know that side of the story. And there's two stories to everything. I would have liked to have known my father's story. I would have liked to have known his side of it. Why is that? Because I think it would have made me understand him a little more
Starting point is 00:48:58 and I maybe would have had more compassion and sympathy for him as opposed to not wanting anything to do with him because he left when i was three he came back when i was 14 and that didn't last and i didn't know him and i didn't think i needed a dad and now that i know better of course i needed a dad yeah the wildest thing in the world is that we we really don't know who our parents were before they were our parents and then when our parents we only know them as parents. We don't like humanize them the way that we should until you actually have a
Starting point is 00:49:29 conversation with them as adults. And you realize, Oh, that's why you were the way you were. Yeah. And I would have liked to have known, you know, certain things like that.
Starting point is 00:49:37 I would have asked her. How do you think it affected your relationship with men? Oh, absolutely. Daddy issues for sure. I think, you know. I think your father is your first love, right? That's your barometer.
Starting point is 00:49:51 If you don't have that, I think you can have misconceptions of what you think that love should be. So I do think that I think I tried to marry men that were like my dad, but that's not what I needed. Did it make you not trust men?
Starting point is 00:50:07 No, believe it or not, I trust everybody, and that's my thing. I trust first, and then I let you reveal who you are to me. Even after my divorce, I'm not untrusting at all. That's because you trust yourself. Yeah, more than ever. More than ever, and I found out that I had to love myself more than I had to love the other person.
Starting point is 00:50:24 All right, keep it locked. We have more with Garcelle Beauvais when we come back. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
Starting point is 00:50:34 We are The Breakfast Club. We're still kicking it with Garcelle Beauvais. Yee. It was interesting in the book, you talk about the affair and you getting a divorce. But then also bringing up the point that in Hollywood, it wasn't uncommon.
Starting point is 00:50:47 Right? So some people might think, oh, he cheated. Well, you can work it out. No big deal. What made you decide that there was no going back? For me, because I felt it would have changed my spirit. It would have changed who I was. I would have been this girl who's like, where are you going? Who are you talking to? Why are you late?
Starting point is 00:51:03 And I didn't want to live with that angst and I didn't want to raise my kids with that angst. I thought I would do them a disservice to be the kind of mom that was so on edge about everything. And that's not who I am. So we are great co-parenting. I mean, we're as we're a family. He's over at Thanksgiving. We go to games together. We're still a family. He's just not my husband. How long did it take to get to that point? Because sometimes the initial breakup is like, I don't want you around me. Like, what was that process like?
Starting point is 00:51:28 We were just talking about Kim and Kanye. They said they haven't, at first, they didn't speak for eight months. I mean, listen, it is hard. Because that's the person you trusted the most, right? That's supposed to be your best friend. That's supposed to be your everything. And, you know, like I said,
Starting point is 00:51:42 the person you trust the most. For me, it was important that I got through it quicker than I would have. Because my kids were only three. And so I went to therapy. I got a life coach. I couldn't hate the man that they love so much. So I had to figure it out. Did you not think maybe he could change, evolve, grow?
Starting point is 00:52:02 I didn't have that kind of time. Did he try? Because I felt like it was too big. It was too big. What, the affair? Yeah, it was too big. Oh. Did he try or he just wasn't, it was?
Starting point is 00:52:16 I mean, he was remorseful. I think if I, you know, we weren't, no, it wasn't going to go there. Yeah. But my kids are great. They benefited from us being able to co-parent really beautifully. Were you real with your kids and told them everything that happened? No.
Starting point is 00:52:31 And they're not going to read the book. They told me. Thank God. Thank God. They might see this interview. Yeah. I think my kids know enough to know that something happened. I don't think they've Googled.
Starting point is 00:52:42 I don't think they're, you know, their life is good. So I don't think they want to know. And they love their dad. I don't think they want to look, see them differently. Right. And I'm cool with that. I mean, I think when they get to a certain age, they'll, they'll understand. I was going to ask how painful was it to write the book if, if at all, cause you had to relive some of the stuff that you went through. What was hard was some of the things that I thought that I was over and redoing it brought back some feelings, almost like PTSD, if you know what I mean. But I thought it was important for people to understand me and also my journey. And women, you know, life happens to all of us. It's how we recover.
Starting point is 00:53:18 And you said you've been to therapy before. So this wasn't the first time you've explored like your inner child, right? And the trauma that your child. I mean, i didn't go to therapy until my divorce okay you know i didn't do it prior but it really helped me i mean my therapist was like don't try to put a band-aid on it like really go through the pain so that you can really just be done with it as opposed to just trying to numb it but yet it's still festering in me. So that was, she said, if you're, whatever you're scared of doing, do that to get out of the negative headspace.
Starting point is 00:53:49 She was like, if you write with your right hand, write with your left because you're concentrating so much that you're not in that headspace. And I wrote a children's book because of the, you know, what I was going through.
Starting point is 00:54:01 I always wanted to, but it always scared me. And then I ended up writing three books called The I Am Series. What from your childhood kept showing up as an adult? I think my dad stuff. I think not forgiving. And then I think I finally realized
Starting point is 00:54:16 that we hold our parents to such high standards because they're our parents. We think they're perfect, right? But how he grew up shaped who he was that's right who he became so I have no control over that right so I think he did the best he could especially culturally an island man you know there's there's a lot put on them that they don't always unpack no it's the same same. I gave my dad a whole lot more grace
Starting point is 00:54:45 for him and my mom's situation. Once I spoke to him and he told me he tried to commit suicide years ago. He was dealing with his own mental health issues. He was on 10 to 12 different medications and he was going to therapy. That just made me like, oh, he's just a human doing the best he could.
Starting point is 00:55:00 Right. That's it. That's exactly right. And your father did end up coming back into your life like you said when you were 14. But the way he entered back in wasn't the ideal way for you. No.
Starting point is 00:55:13 He wasn't loving and nurturing. He was very strict. And I it was I didn't feel safe. I didn't feel loved by him you know or seen by him. So that was really hard. Is there an ideal way to like, how could he have come back that would have made you say,
Starting point is 00:55:33 because it was like he kind of just inserted himself back in this person that you didn't even really have a connection with. I mean, I think as a daughter, I would have loved to have been loved or maybe explained or said, I'm sorry. And I didn't grow up with parents saying, I'm sorry. I apologize to my kids now if something if I didn't handle something. But I didn't grow up with anybody apologizing to me. OK, nobody. And so I would have liked a little bit more love. You know what I loved about your mom?
Starting point is 00:56:03 When you were talking about certain situations where you would go to her and tell her this happened, you know. She took care of it. This guy, you know, opened the door butt naked, her boyfriend.
Starting point is 00:56:15 And she was like, next day gone. Yep. Never talked to him again because sometimes parents don't believe their kids or they don't feel, your kids don't feel protected
Starting point is 00:56:24 because you don't want to feel like she chose this man over me or I can't tell her this because she won't believe me or she'll think it's my fault. Right. But you felt confident enough to be able to tell her what happened.
Starting point is 00:56:34 I did and she took care of it. My mom was so strong. So strong. I mean, she's my shero. I say that because that's all I knew. I mean, she was the example of being strong and independent and, you know, and just took care of us. You know, when I was doing that, I was like, Lord, please don't tell me this is about to go left. No.
Starting point is 00:56:56 Right. Thank God. Thank God. Thank God. I was going to ask, when you talk about your parents and how strict your dad was. Yeah. Do you take that sometimes as that's how Caribbean families were? Yes.
Starting point is 00:57:06 Because, you know, anybody I know that's a Caribbean descent, they are strong. They are protective. And they make sure that their kids are in strict. It's a dictatorship.
Starting point is 00:57:17 Oh, totally. And they're not going to say I love you. Totally. Right, exactly. You're seen and not heard. You know what I mean? And I think that's why
Starting point is 00:57:22 when I had the opportunity to leave at 17 to come to New York to start my modeling career, I was like, sign me up. You know, but that strict upbringing kept me in check even when they weren't around. And I was in New York by myself. Especially back then, Haitian, Jamaican. Right. Anyone from the Caribbean Islands, they were the most strict, you know, to make sure they ran the right way. That's right. That's right.
Starting point is 00:57:47 That's right. And now, looking back, you understand a little bit more. Totally. And they did the right thing. You know what I mean? And sometimes I think now, we try to be our kids' friends when we really need to be their parents. So how is that with you raising your kids now? Oh, they think I'm strict. But I'm not as strict as my girlfriend, Nicole, who
Starting point is 00:58:03 my boys always go, Mom, you you're strict but Nicole's out of control like cause she's Jamaican so I'm strict in a certain like certain things are important to me manners, respect but also at the same time they're allowed to say how they feel respectfully
Starting point is 00:58:20 you know like the other day I had something with Jax and I stopped talking and he walked out of the room and then he came back in and he goes you know like the other day I had something with Jackson I stopped talking and he walked out of the room and then he came back in and he goes you know mom when you stop talking it really hurts my feelings and I would have never been able to say that to my he's 14 that's beautiful he has that language
Starting point is 00:58:36 oh he is unbelievable and he goes that really hurt my feelings can you work on that I love that that's mindfulness I said I will I'm sorry I will. I'm sorry. I will, and I'm glad you did. I'm glad you were able to say that. Don't move.
Starting point is 00:58:48 We got more with the actress. And, of course, you know her from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Garcelle Beauvais. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:59:04 We're still talking to Garcelle Beauvais. You know her from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Of course, The Jimmy Foxx Show, The Real, and more. So what were your thoughts on the Will Smith-Chris Rock incident at the Oscars? Ooh, that one. Comedians do what they do. They're used to whoever's in the front row,'re a target right and i know chris had history with jada in the past i think there's never ever ever a time for violence that's my take on it
Starting point is 00:59:32 i saw you reveal recently you had a history with will briefly briefly in the 90s yeah i mean i think you know i was a young ingenue actress. I don't even know what that means. I was, you know, ingenue. I was, you know, fresh off the, you know, fresh on the scene. And I was an actress and, you know, single at the time. And I did a couple of episodes of The Fresh Prince. I also did Wild Wild West with Will. So we sort of had a connection and we, you know, dated briefly. Nothing to write home about.
Starting point is 01:00:05 When you were on The Real, right, and discussing topics and whatever's happening, did people ever get mad on reporting? Because, you know, sometimes people will be like, why did you discuss that? That's not true. I mean, that's the thing that comes with the job. But now with cancel culture, you got to be careful. But at the same time, I'm hired to give my opinion. That's my job, right?
Starting point is 01:00:24 Like you guys. So that's a little tricky. The other day, my son was at a basketball game. And I came in. And he wasn't playing. We were watching the high school. And he goes, check your phone. And so I look at my phone because he was sitting in the student section.
Starting point is 01:00:41 And he goes, didn't you have beef with, is it Mo Money Bag? Money Bag Yo. Money Bag Yo. He goes, don't you have beef with Money Bag Yo? And I was like, no, not really.
Starting point is 01:00:53 And he goes, because he's here. And I'm like, take a picture because I don't know who he is. Why didn't you have beef with Money Bag Yo? Well, because we talked
Starting point is 01:00:59 on the show about his girlfriend bought him 28 acres of land. Yep, yep, yep. And I was like, as a girlfriend, him 28 acres of land. And I was like, as a girlfriend, you don't do that. You do that as a wife. That was my opinion. So then I guess he was like, fancy's coming for me. And so
Starting point is 01:01:14 that's how it began. So when Jade, my son, texted me that, I was like, that's a crazy thing to say. Like, Mom, do you have beef with someone? What was he about to do? Was he about to snuffle? He just wanted me to, now, Mom, he you have beef with someone? What was he about to do? Was he about to snuff him? What was he about to do? No, no, no. He just wanted me to. Now, Mom, he's here.
Starting point is 01:01:27 Hey, stand there. So does that apply to the man? Like if I'm trying to court a woman and I buy 28 acres of land for her and she's not my wife yet, does that apply to him? I would have a problem accepting that if I was just your girlfriend. Yeah, absolutely. I'm not saying that's a problem. I'm saying I would be uncomfortable with that because I'm just your girlfriend. I don't know where this is going to go. What if we don't end up together? Then what?
Starting point is 01:01:50 With so many people that recording you, what's the craziest thing somebody's purchased for you that you were not with as a husband? I once went to dinner with this guy and the next day he had his assistant call me and say can I have her passport information? There's going to be a car pulling up to take her somewhere. And I was like, I just met you. He's trying to fool you out. He's almost getting fooled out. I don't want to be fooled out unless I really know you. Listen, you had an opportunity to go to Hawaii
Starting point is 01:02:18 with Michael Jordan. Wait a minute. Oh, back in the day. But did you go? No, I didn't go. No, not with Jordan, with the other guy. No, I didn't go. Where was it first of all? Thailand But did you go? No, I didn't go. Okay. No, not with Jordan, with the other guy. No, no, I didn't go. Okay, okay. Where was it? Where was it, first of all? Thailand, I found out.
Starting point is 01:02:29 Wow. I could have become a sex slave. Yeah, you don't know. No, thank you. That's too far. No, thank you. What happened with Michael Jordan? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:36 You know what? I was a model, and this was obviously before Google or anything like that, and I was at Essence Magazine having a fitting for a shoot the next day. And they said, you're going to be working with Michael Jordan. Now, the way they said it, I knew I was supposed to know who this person was, but I didn't. You didn't know who Michael Jordan was?
Starting point is 01:02:53 No, I was 18 years old. I didn't know who Michael Jordan was. What year was this? I don't know. Back in the day. I'm not going to do the math. And so, but I could tell. And I was like, oh, that's awesome.
Starting point is 01:03:07 So then I go home and I called home and I was talking to my mom and my brother was in the background and I said I'm working with Michael Jordan he was like what and so the next day you know here's this beautiful tall chocolate man come in and we we did the shoot the entire day and we hit it off he was really cool and we hung out a couple of times. He tried to show me how to play golf. I was terrible at it. And it was just, you know, a story to tell. But that was it.
Starting point is 01:03:32 What was your best first date ever? My best first date. My best first date. I would say he's not in the book, interestingly enough. Damn it, man. He didn't make the book. Wasn't that memorable? No, but I think it was just the fact that flowers came, champagne came,
Starting point is 01:03:53 and then I was picked up, and then we went to dinner, and then we drove to the beach. To me, that's a cool first date. It's not about a gift or anything like that. And it's good when your personalities mesh really well. Yeah. And they plan. It's like planning. And planning or anything like that. And it's good when your personalities mesh really well. Yeah. And they plan. It's like planning.
Starting point is 01:04:06 And planning. We like men that plan. I don't know if you guys know that. Are you guys planners? Yes. Yes. Because at worst, they're like, what do you want to do? Where do you want to go?
Starting point is 01:04:16 I'm not the best planner, but we got a bunch of homegirls. Yeah. So they plan things. Oh, what do you mean? Like, for example, for her 40th B-Day, there's something I wanted to do. And once I said I wanted to do it, then her homegirl, Kim, planned everything. Oh, I love that. Yes, salute to Kim.
Starting point is 01:04:35 That's cool. That's cool. I'm a planner. I do it for myself. I handle everything. What's the cap on money when it comes to somebody who's not your wife? Because you said you take the flowers and whatever and champagne. So what's the money cap?
Starting point is 01:04:47 I don't know what the money cap is, but it's how much it's how long I know you. Do you know what I mean? Like, I know some girls want Birkins that immediately. Right. And I don't know. There's no cap. To me, it's more of the idea that you're thinking of me and you bought me something. It's not necessarily
Starting point is 01:05:03 what the thing is. And that's just your own me something. It's not necessarily what the thing is. And that's just your own personal preference. It's not a rule for everybody, but for yourself, you just wouldn't be able to accept that. I also don't like accepting gifts from people who I know I don't like. You know, some people don't have a problem with that. But if I know I'm never going out with you
Starting point is 01:05:17 and I don't like you, I would not want to accept a present from you. Exactly. But then that makes it feel transactional because somebody buy you a gift, you just accept it. But if I like you, I know I like you
Starting point is 01:05:26 so I feel better. Yeah, but I shouldn't buy you something expecting anything anyway. I'm buying you something just correct. That would be the key but not everybody's
Starting point is 01:05:32 like that though. You know what I mean? For me, if a guy says, I was getting gas and I went in and this is your favorite chocolate,
Starting point is 01:05:40 I got you that. That to me, that's cool. That is cool but that Birkin though. Shut up. I'm just saying. Would you carry one? I got you that like that to me. That's cool. That is cool, but that Birkin No, no, no they look like Have you ever courted a guy have you ever tried to highlight a guy opposed to a guy hollering at you? Yeah, totally I just did that
Starting point is 01:06:02 I Actually sent I sent him an email because I knew where he worked so I sent him an email just saying hey you know we ran into each other and it was great chemistry I could tell there was
Starting point is 01:06:12 something there and so I reached out and I was like let me know when you want to have dinner sometime what if he thought it was fake no he you know how you send those
Starting point is 01:06:19 you get those emails like I'm stuck out here and I need $40,000 to go yeah no I think he knew it was me and he responded it was cool You get those emails like, I'm stuck out here and I need $40,000 to go. No, I think he knew it was me. And he responded. It was cool. How fast did he respond?
Starting point is 01:06:30 Pretty quick. Thirsty. He couldn't wait. Yes. Here's my number. Don't email me. Here's my number. So does that mean you have to pay now because you asked him out?
Starting point is 01:06:40 Ooh. Yes. That's a good question. No. Yes, fancy. Yes, it is. If you asked him. Yes, it's a good question. No. Yes, Fancy. Yes, it is. If you asked him. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 01:06:47 Whoever asked. If you asked him out. Now, I don't have a problem paying down the road, but I wouldn't pay for the first one. But you asked him. Yeah. You asked him. It's 2022. You're right. It's 2022.
Starting point is 01:06:59 You got it. You shouldn't let you pay. Where are you going to take him? He should come and be like, no, no, I got this. I got it. You shouldn't let you pay. Where are you going to take them? He should come and be like, no, no, I got this. I got it. Okay. Would you look at him if you offered to pay and he let you? That would be a problem.
Starting point is 01:07:12 On the first date? On the first date? That would be tough. Just put it on the... I know. I'm going to take it. Enough of this. On the first date, no, I think a guy should pay.
Starting point is 01:07:22 I agree. Yeah. Unless they emailed me and asked me... Unless they emailed me and asked me. Unless they emailed me and asked me. Okay, I got it. I got it. But I don't have a problem paying. Like, I don't have a problem sending flowers to a guy.
Starting point is 01:07:33 You know, if it's like Valentine's Day or his birthday. I think that's cool, too. I think that's really dope. Listen, as crazy as it sounds, I'm watching a lot of men who want to be treated like ladies nowadays. Oh. In a good way, though. Oh, okay. You know what I mean? They do. For a minute there. I'm watching a lot of men who want to be treated like ladies nowadays in a good way though oh okay you know what I mean
Starting point is 01:07:45 they do for a minute there I'm telling you you listen to a lot of these guys talk all they're simply saying they're getting flewed out too yes they want love they want that emotional
Starting point is 01:07:53 connection I love it alright so what's wrong with it I love it I think your people saying you gotta go well thank you for joining us
Starting point is 01:08:00 I enjoyed this pick up the book Love Me As I Am and thank you for stopping through Thank you for coming I enjoy you guys You came you actually came We were here already Thank you for having me
Starting point is 01:08:11 Wow he's a stickler Goodbye Charlie Graham It's the Breakfast Club good morning Thank you so much So people are under the impression that Drake may have been taking shots at Pusha T. And that is all on a recently leaked collab with Jack Harlow. Here is what that sounds like. Urges for revenge are uncontrollable. I know we're getting older, though. But I got to get in looking back for that. It's non-negotiable.
Starting point is 01:08:49 It's not even debatable. I'm getting so rich, my music's not even relatable. I blow a head up, it's uninflatable. Baby, blue G-class, I feel like a kid again. Praying on my downfall don't make you religious, man. All I hear is plug talk coming from middle, man. All I hear is tall tales coming from little, man. Ooh, very slick verse they very slick what do you say praying on my downfall don't make you a spiritual man or something what do you say praying on my praying on my that whatever that line was
Starting point is 01:09:14 slick he said uh hearing the plug talk from middleman i don't know if that's about pushing but i know jack harlow you got bodied on your own record all right it happens it's Drake. But it does sound like he's taking a shot of push, though. That's a leak. That's a leak. You said it does sound like it? It does sound like it to me. Jack supposed to go rewrite his verse or something. Jesus, you can't just murder me on my own record like that.
Starting point is 01:09:34 Now, they said the song is tentatively titled Have a Turn, and it's leaked online. They didn't give Jack a good turn. Jack need another turn. By the way, we also don't know if there's something old, you know. It don't matter. No, it's not old. old you know it don't matter no it's not old they just got leaked now yeah it's not old well let's see what happens next but you never know who Drake shooting at man
Starting point is 01:09:54 that waffle colored raft lasts forever yeah he said his urges for revenge are uncontrollable he said I know we're getting older though but I gotta get it and we're back for that it's non-negotiable that's me. Talk to your therapist about it. Is that a light-skinned thing?
Starting point is 01:10:07 Is that me, too? Because that's how I feel. Listen. I need revenge. Why? What is revenge? Success is the best revenge. To you.
Starting point is 01:10:16 You know? Let go. Actually, the best revenge is not becoming like those who hurt you. I'm not there yet. That's actually the best revenge. I'm not there yet. To me, you just don't acknowledge things at all. Best revenge is hit. People want attention. Sometimes the people are who hurt you. That's actually the best revenge. To me, you just don't acknowledge things at all. Best revenge is hit. Because people want attention. Sometimes
Starting point is 01:10:28 when people are coming at you, they want a response, they want attention. You just got to ignore it. Just heal and move on. That's a hard one to ignore. Heal and move on. That's the best revenge. Alright, now shout out to our guy, Sinqua Walls. He has been tapped for a lead role opposite Jack Harlow in the reboot
Starting point is 01:10:44 of White Men Can't Jump. So he is going to be playing the role of Wesley Snipes' character. And then Jack Harlow will be playing the role of Woody Harrelson. Jack, don't let him body you acting-wise the way Drake bodied you on that record. Okay, please. Leave Jack alone, man. Please, Jack. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:11:03 And Rihanna and A$AP Rocky. Now, I don't know where these rumors even started. Well, I do know. I saw it was like a stylist or somebody that was saying that Rocky, A$AP Rocky and Rihanna have broken up. And there's no real evidence of it. So one person said it. It was a, and then it's just kind of been everywhere since then.
Starting point is 01:11:25 And so other reports are claiming that they were recently spotted at a restaurant in L.A. And she was crying at the table. And they're saying that she caught him cheating on her with the Fenty footwear design. There's all kinds of things going on. The woman is pregnant. We don't even know if that's true at all. So I know it's been on every blog site it's been everywhere but it's
Starting point is 01:11:48 not nothing confirmed I saw there's a woman now saying that he tried to holler at her when he was in Brazil and all kinds of things going on but you guys let her enjoy her pregnancy and her relationship okay well it's everywhere it's on like every blog site and so
Starting point is 01:12:04 don't be like the people who are hurting people. Hmm? Don't be like the people who are hurting people. Well, we're not going to ignore it, but I am going to say there's no real evidence that this has even happened. So, the fact that all these sites are putting it up without any evidence of anything, you know, let this woman enjoy herself.
Starting point is 01:12:19 Alright? And that is your rumor report. Alright. Thank you, Miss Yee. Now, um, we didn't report this earlier, but I just thought this was interesting. You know, we were talking about Tom Brady and a touchdown ball that the guy paid $518,000 for his last touchdown ball. And then he didn't retire. Well, they're saying the buyer who purchased the last touchdown ball caught a break because the sale of this pigskin has reportedly been voided, saving the wealthy collector half a million dollars. That's what it says. I saw that.
Starting point is 01:12:46 Straight from the list. Yeah. So it saved the guy. So the guy didn't have to come up with the $500,000. Yeah, that ball ain't nothing but an NFT. That's all it is.
Starting point is 01:12:56 It had some value. It had some value, but it hasn't gone. It has some value. Not anymore. All right. Who are you giving your donkey to? Four after the hour.

Living. Girls trip to Miami. Mess.

Starting point is 01:16:17 Breaking up with your girlfriend while on Instagram Live. Living. Living. It's kind of mess. Yeah. Well, you get it. Got it? Live, love of mess. Yeah. Well, you get it. Got it? Live, love, mess. Listen to Mess with Sidney Washington and Marie Faustin on iHeartRadio app,

Starting point is 01:17:22 and your favorite ghost host is back and badder than ever. Listen to Haunting on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey there, I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist who studies human behavior. On my podcast, A Slight Change of Plans, I marry science and storytelling to better understand how to navigate the big changes in our lives. It was like a slow nightmare, you know, because every day you think, oh, surely tomorrow I'll be better. And I would dream of being better. At night, I would dream that my face was quote-unquote normal or back to the way it was and I'd wake up and there'd be no change. I also speak with scientists about how we can be more resilient in the face of
Starting point is 01:18:12 change. You can think of the adolescent brain as like the social R&D engine of our culture. That they're something that looks like a risky and idiotic to us is maybe their way of creatively trying to solve the problem of having social success and fewer of the things that bring you social failure listen to a slight change of plans on the iHeartRadio app apple podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts make sure you tell them to watch out for Florida man the craziest people in America come from the Bronx and all of Florida. Yes, you are a donkey.
Starting point is 01:18:49 A Florida man attacked an ATM for a very strange reason. It gave him too much money. Florida man is arrested after deputies say he rigged the door to his home in an attempt to electrocute his pregnant wife. Police arrested an Orlando man for attacking a flamingo. It's a breakfast club, bitchy. Donkey of the Day with Charlamagne Tha God. I don't know why y'all keep letting him get y'all like this.
Starting point is 01:19:08 Yeah, it's Donkey of the Day for Friday, April 15th. Goes to an establishment called Overtime Sports Bar and Grill. Overtime Sports Bar and Grill is an establishment in Hudson, Florida. Florida, Florida, Florida, Florida. What does your Uncle Charla always say about the great state of Florida? The craziest people in America come from the Bronx and all of Florida, and today's donkey is no exception. I promise you, I don't come in here and say,
Starting point is 01:19:31 who from Florida can I give donkey of the day to? In fact, it's more like donkeys from Florida saying, Uncle Sharla, we've been waiting on you, okay? We've been waiting on you to arrive, all right? Well, today, a man named Mike Keech says he was humiliated when a server asked him to leave a restaurant because of his dog.
Starting point is 01:19:49 Now, for years, we've seen the signs that say no dogs allowed. I understand, but there are signs that say no pets allowed, but trained service dogs are welcome.
Starting point is 01:19:58 We do not allow emotional support of companion animals in this establishment, but trained service dogs are welcome. I see a lot of those signs. Well, I know you're asking,
Starting point is 01:20:06 what does that have to do with anything? Well, the answer is everything because Mike Keach had a service dog, okay? Why did Mike Keach have a service dog? Because he is blind, all right? Not legally blind like Donna Godot, P.O.P., hold it down. By the way, I looked her up this morning
Starting point is 01:20:21 because I always wonder what happens to those humans who end up going viral for stuff like that. And according to my research, and by research, I mean what I Goog morning because I always wonder what happens to those humans who end up going viral for stuff like that. And according to my research and my research, I mean what I Googled, she's in prison until 2029. But this man, Mike Keach, is blind, blind. OK, and it's amazing to me that even though he's blind, he was the only person that could clearly see in this situation. Let's go to News Channel 8 for the report, please. I don't trip over. I've never tripped or fallen since I've had this guy.
Starting point is 01:20:45 Mike Keech and his service dog, Nico, have a special bond. I don't think I could almost exist without having a service dog. When Mike, who is blind, leaves his house, Nico, a nearly $50,000 highly trained service dog, goes with him. But when Mike, his stepson, and Nico went to the Overtime Bar and Grill near his home in Hudson last week. They were asked to leave. He says he was told Nico wasn't welcome. And what bartender came from around the bar and said, I'm sorry, I can't serve you. Before we even tried to order.
Starting point is 01:21:14 And I said, what's the problem? And she says, my boss almost fired me because I let you in three weeks ago. And I said, that's not right. I said, this dog is protected know protected by the american disabilities act mike tells me he showed the server this id card certifying nico's training and explaining the law but after a call to her boss they were told to go i don't need to take this you were just there to get a bite to eat i just wanted a hamburger with mushrooms you know and a couple of budweiser's. That's it. Just real quick sidebar. He said it's the best thing ever invented.
Starting point is 01:21:51 Can you invent a dog? He said that a service dog is the greatest thing ever invented. I know what he means, but that grinds my gears a little bit. I guess technically God did invent the dog and then somebody trained him, but that's not, that's not why we're here. Okay. Overtime sports bar and grill. How dare you? All right. This is why the LeBron James version of the Bible says they have eyes, but cannot see. This is exactly why the Bible says they have ears, but cannot hear. This man told you he was blind, showed you his certification card, and you still asked him to leave after he told you, after he told you his dog was protected
Starting point is 01:22:20 by the American with Disabilities Act. I need to speak to the owner. Her name is Cindy Smith, and News Channel 8 spoke to her as well. Let's go back to News Channel 8 for the report, please. Owner Cindy Smith invited me in to explain herself. She apologized and calls this a misunderstanding. The past week, somebody had come in saying they had a service dog and it almost bit a customer. But what did the customer do? She's cracking down on support dogs, not service
Starting point is 01:22:46 dogs. We have dogs them trying to be on their laps, sitting on the stools, trying to eat off their plates and it's a little difficult in recognizing what's legitimate and not legitimate. Let's go forward. Mike tells me he
Starting point is 01:23:02 accepts the apology, but he doesn't buy that anyone could mistake Nico for a support dog. Shannon, I'm walking with my white cane, which is standard for the blind, okay? And I've got the dog. It has the harness with the please don't pet me, I'm working. I'm wearing sunglasses and a hat in the building. What do you think? What do you think?
Starting point is 01:23:23 Do you hear that? This man, Mike man mike keen is blind like tv show blind movie blind like actually looks suspicious because he could be pretending to be blind because he's moving so blind all right listen to this man describe himself let's just listen again play it again red i'm describing i'm walking with my white cane which is standard for the blind okay and i've got the dog that has the harness with the please don't pet me, I'm working. I'm wearing sunglasses and a hat in the building.
Starting point is 01:23:50 What do you think? What do you think? That is the I am blind starter kit. Okay, that could be a Halloween costume, but it's not. It's his real life. And the only reason I say it makes you look suspicious when you got all that is because I'm a brilliant idiot. And the bar for me when it comes to blindness is Stevie Wonder. Okay okay and I seen Stevie Wonder driving a
Starting point is 01:24:07 car before drop top rolls they didn't and he had the top down smoking a jade going down Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles no you didn't you're right I didn't okay let the record show I just told a whole lie but the fact some of y'all out there believed it and could picture it vividly lets me know y'all know that it's levels to this blindness and everybody not Stevie Wonder okay I would assume more people are actually like Mike Keach, blind service dog walking cane. So overtime sports bar and grill. I have one question. Who's really the blind one here? Because it's you and your staff who clearly couldn't see.
Starting point is 01:24:36 And if somebody's service dog almost bit a customer, it was probably that customer's fault. You know why? Because service dogs are highly unlikely to bite someone unless they are provoked in some way. They are trained from birth to fulfill their specific duty. So I need to hear both sides. I need to hear from the customer who got bit, but I also need to hear from the service dog to see why the service dog almost bit him. I bet you we would side with the service dog. The moral of the story is so many of us are blind to our blindness we don't realize how much we don't see people especially the less fortunate among us especially those who require a little more assistance and this situation is proof of that please give overtime sports bar and grill the sweet sounds of the day. You are the doggy
Starting point is 01:25:27 of the day. Yee-haw. All right. Yee-haw. Now, well-deserved, but there are a lot of people going crazy with these dogs, walking around with these dogs
Starting point is 01:25:40 and saying these dogs are service dogs when they're not service dogs. I see it all the time. Well, I don't know if they can see, so I don't know if they actually need their service dog or not. They say these dogs and saying these dogs are service dogs when they're not service dogs. I see it all the time. Well, I don't know if they can see. So I don't know if they actually need their service dog or not. They say these dogs are... You mean a comfort dog or a service dog? I see the comfort
Starting point is 01:25:51 dogs more than anything. But they put the service little vest on the dog. It'd be like a little chihuahua. I'd be like, this is my comfort dog and I have to have it on the plane with me and I have to have it in the store with me. And, you know, because you could buy those service vests and animal vests online on Amazon, and nobody checks them.
Starting point is 01:26:07 It's not like you could say, no, you can't. So people just are disrespectful with them service things. Well, I know what kind of service dog I want. I want me a South African Bora Bora, okay, for protection. All right? He's serving a service. He's doing a service. Well, you know, I brought my dog in a club a couple times.
Starting point is 01:26:22 That's just stupid. How scared were you? Did he drink? No, he was a service dog. New York, that's why you got club a couple times. That's just stupid. How scared were you? Did he drink? No, he was a service dog. New York, that's why you got to legalize guns. There's no reason. If you want to reduce dogs in the club. But you can't have a gun, so I brought my dog.
Starting point is 01:26:32 Why didn't you just have security? I just wanted to see if they would tell me no if I could bring my dog, because he's a service dog. That is stupid. You hear me? Don't pet me, I'm working, but I'm supposed to be scared of this punk-ass dog. That's why Gucci call your dog a punk right there. You better stop with that punk-ass dog. Okay?
Starting point is 01:26:44 All right. In the club with the damn service vest on top of it. Don't pet me, I'm working to be scared of this punk-ass dog. That's why Gucci call your dog a punk right there. You better stop with that punk-ass dog. That's Kate. All right. In the club with the damn service vest on top of don't pet me, I'm working, because you scared. Punk-ass dog. You better watch your mouth. That's the last punk-ass bitch he gonna be today. I ain't calling him a punk-ass bitch.
Starting point is 01:26:55 I call him a punk-ass dog. It's a male. It's a male dog. That's right. If it was a female, I'd call him a punk-ass bitch. All right. That's what a female dog is. You're right.
Starting point is 01:27:02 All right. Well, thank you for that donkey of the day. Now, let's open up the phone lines. 800-585-1051. Now, Garcelle Beauvais was here, and this is what she said during the interview. Have you ever courted a guy? Have you ever tried to holler at a guy, opposed to a guy hollering at you? So, I sent him an email just saying, hey, you know, we ran into each other, and it was great chemistry.
Starting point is 01:27:19 I could tell there was something there. And so, I reached out, and I was like, let me know when you want to have dinner sometime. So, does that mean you have to pay now because you asked him out oh yes that's a good question no yes fancy now i don't have a problem paying down the road but i wouldn't pay for the first one you asked him yeah yeah would you look at him if you offered to pay and he let you? That would be a problem. All right, well, let's talk about it.
Starting point is 01:27:48 800-585-1051. Should she have to pay? Let's talk about it. 800-585-1051. She asked him out. She courted him. Yeah, usually the rule is if you ask, you're the one paying. All right, let's talk about it when we come back.
Starting point is 01:28:04 800-585-1051. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. It's topic time. Call 800-585-1051 to join in to the discussion with The Breakfast Club. Talk about it. Morning, everybody.
Starting point is 01:28:24 It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Now, if you just join us, we're talking about Garcelle Beauvais. She stopped through earlier. And while she was here, we were talking about if she ever courted a guy. So I sent him an email just saying, hey, you know, we ran into each other and it was great chemistry. I could tell there was something there. And so I reached out and I was like, let me know each other and it was great chemistry. I could tell there was something there.
Starting point is 01:28:46 And so I reached out and I was like, let me know when you want to have dinner sometime. So does that mean you have to pay now because you asked him out? Ooh. Yes. That's a good question. No. Yes, fancy.
Starting point is 01:28:53 No. If you asked him. Yes, it is. Whoever asked. If you asked him out. Now, I don't have a problem paying down the road, but I wouldn't pay for the first one. But you asked him.
Starting point is 01:29:05 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, would you look at him if you offered to pay and he let you? That would be a problem. So we're asking 800-585-1051. Should she have to pay? Well, my thought is this, right? If you ask somebody out on a date and that means that you come up with where you're going because you asked them. And then technically you're supposed to pay.
Starting point is 01:29:26 But I would think if I took a guy on a date and did all of that, he wouldn't allow me to pay on the first date. But I would be prepared to do so. And I kind of agree with her. I would look at him a little weird if he allowed. But you invited him out though. I know. And I would offer to pay. But, you know, and I wouldn't be mad, but i would think it would be weird because i think most guys
Starting point is 01:29:45 you know would still pay anyway i think she should expect to pay since she invited him but i think a guy should pay that first that you know that that meal but since she invited him that means i'm taking you to dinner that means i'm treating you i'm taking you out right since you made the first move i'm paying for that meal but as a man as a guy i think a guy should be like no no i got this but she shouldn't just sit there And sit back I think she should Offer the pay
Starting point is 01:30:07 Charlamagne Yeah she gotta pay She asked him out Okay Those are the rules Alright Don't get gremlins wet Don't make Bruce Banner angry
Starting point is 01:30:14 And if you ask me out You gotta pay That's actually fly In 2022 We live in a world Where gender role norms Are being shattered So go ahead
Starting point is 01:30:22 And shatter them boo Okay You ask me out? Dope. Now you paying for the dinner? That's even doper. Okay? And she Haitian. A common Haitian value is hospitality. Go ahead and be hospitable, Haitian queen.
Starting point is 01:30:36 Alright? You a boss. Thank you. I appreciate it. Alright. Hello, who's this? Yo, it's DJ Natsan. What's up, brother? What's happening, my man? Should Garcelle have to pay? You think a woman should have to pay?
Starting point is 01:30:50 I mean, that's what they asked for. They wanted equality. You know, you can't pick and choose if you want to be equal, you know what I mean? That's right. Okay. I respect it. You asked me out.
Starting point is 01:31:01 I'm old school. You know me as a man. I'm going to pay. Yeah, exactly. You're still going to pay. No, but it's different, though, because You asked me out. You know me as a man, I'm going to pay. Yeah, exactly. You're still going to pay. No, but it's different, though, because she asked you out. That's the context that needs to be said every time we ask that question. She asked him out.
Starting point is 01:31:15 But he said he's still going to pay anyway. All right. Thank you, brother. Hello, who's this? This is Chelsea from Atlanta, Georgia. Hey, Chelsea from Atlanta, Georgia. Now, you caught a guy. You asked him out.
Starting point is 01:31:26 Should you have to pay? I'd pay for myself. No, no, no, no. So you would go Dutch. You can't pay for yourself and leave me by myself. I have to pay for myself because we're getting to know each other. We're going to know each other. I owe you nothing.
Starting point is 01:31:40 You owe me nothing. But you asked me out. You owe me nothing. You asked me out on a date. I asked you out? I still feel like we should pay separately. What if he was like,
Starting point is 01:31:52 well, you asked me, so I thought you would be picking up the check. No. We'd be asking for each other, because if I don't like you, I won't be mad. I spent my money. Well, question. Technically, that's not a date then, right? Because what makes it a date is when a person asks somebody out. You really can't.
Starting point is 01:32:08 You really can't base dates off of that nowadays because everybody thinks somebody over something. I love you, baby. Have a good day. See you later. Who are you talking to? Wait, what's happening? I'm sorry. I'm talking to you.
Starting point is 01:32:19 You can tell us. Hold on. Oh, no. We already did our affirmations and everything for this morning. Oh, that's beautiful. What was the affirmation this morning? I am beautiful, charismatic, confident, and I am loved. I love that.
Starting point is 01:32:33 And I am going to pay for this date because I asked this man out. I'm going to pay for my own date. I am not paying for another date. You're going to pay for yourself. I'm going to pay for myself. All right, bro. Well, that's going to be your next date. You just put it out there. That's your affirmation.
Starting point is 01:32:46 No, man. 800-585-1051. Garcelle Beauvais, she stopped through earlier and she was talking about courting a guy and this is what she said. So I sent him an email just saying hey, you know, we ran into each other and it was great chemistry. I could tell there was something there. And so I reached out
Starting point is 01:33:02 and I was like, let me know when you want to have dinner sometime. So does that mean you have to pay now because you asked him out? dinner sometime oh yes that's a good question yes fancy now I don't have a problem paying down the road but I wouldn't pay for the first one you Who asked him? Yeah. Yeah, would you look at him, honey, if you offered to pay and he let you? I know it now. I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it.
Starting point is 01:33:30 That kudos in here with that. Call me. Add your opinion to the Breakfast Club Topic. Come on. 800-585-1051. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Now, if you just joined us, we were talking about Garcelle Beauvais, who stopped through Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy.
Starting point is 01:33:45 We are The Breakfast Club. Now, if you just joined us, we were talking about Garcelle Beauvais, who stopped through earlier. She was talking about courting a guy. And this is what she said. So I sent him an email just saying, hey, you know, we ran into each other and it was great chemistry. I could tell there was something there. And so I reached out and I was like, let me know when you want to have dinner sometime. So does that mean you have to pay now because you asked him out? Oh, yes.
Starting point is 01:34:06 That's a good question. No. Yes, fancy. No. If you asked him. Yes, it is. Whoever asked. If you asked him out.
Starting point is 01:34:14 Now, I don't have a problem paying down the road, but I wouldn't pay for the first one. But you asked him. Yeah. Yeah, would you look at him and let him if you offered to pay and he let you? That would be a problem. So we asked, 800-585-1051 him if you offered to pay and he let you? That would be a problem. So we asked, 805-85-1051. Should she have to pay? I say yes.
Starting point is 01:34:30 If she invited the guy out, she should pay. But you wouldn't let her? No. I would take care of myself, but still. Not if she asked you out, man. I just think that's what dates are about. You know what I mean? That's a form of courtship, right?
Starting point is 01:34:43 That's what it is. You reach out to the person. You say, hey, let's go do some type of social activity. And then what bonds that is, I would think, one person paying for it, right? If not, y'all just went to hang out. Hello, who's this? Good morning. My name is Lala.
Starting point is 01:34:57 How are you today? What's up, Lala? I'm doing good. So can I put in my thoughts on this topic? Put your thoughts on the topic. Please, Lala. Please, please. I think it's very unfair and disturbing for a woman to even think like that.
Starting point is 01:35:10 If you're going to invite a man to go out, it is expected that you should at least know, hey, maybe I'm going to pay for this. You invited him out. Why would it be that you're telling him, let's go out, but then he has to pay for it? That's what I'm talking about, queen. You are a queen. You're like every other woman out there. That's what I'm talking about, queen. You are a queen. You're like every other woman out there. That's what I'm talking about.
Starting point is 01:35:26 From the strong ones. Let me shine your crown and straighten your crown up. You tell these queens, queen. That's what I'm talking about. I'm putting it on. There you go. There you go. That's a queen right there.
Starting point is 01:35:35 Queen Lala, all hail, bow down. Now, Lala, have you ever courted a guy and asked the guy out? Yeah, I have my fiance. You know how many times I tell him, baby, let's just go out. And I'm dishing out. And I'm paying. Or he'll pay. It's just normal. I think my fiance. You know how many times I tell him, baby, let's just go out, and I'm dishing out, and I'm paying, or he'll pay. It's just normal. I think we're not in the times no more where it's a gender role to fight anymore.
Starting point is 01:35:51 Even on a first date, not when you're with somebody, but on a first date? Well, I mean, in his case, his first date. I mean, if it's his first date, why not? Okay. If the woman, whoever asks, is the person who should pay for the first date. Yeah, technically, yes. Hello, who's this? Crystal. Crystal, good morning. What are your thoughts?
Starting point is 01:36:08 Crystal, talk to us. I believe the male should pay for the first date, period. Men get out of being a man these days. I heard Charlamagne say earlier that men want to be treated like women with flowers and stuff and to me, it just comes across lazy. A man is there to provide.
Starting point is 01:36:24 Women have to play their role, too. So why can't you accept the fact that you got to pay for the first date? But you're missing the context, Queen. You asked me out. The woman asked the man out. It doesn't matter. Yes, it does. The courting process.
Starting point is 01:36:36 No, it doesn't. The courting process is the man is supposed to be the head of the household. All of that in 2022 is getting blurred because men just don't want to do nothing. If she asks you out, the least you can do is pay for dinner. I mean, we have cycles every month
Starting point is 01:36:50 where we're bleeding. It's like, y'all have to accept that y'all have nothing on this earth to do but to provide. So if I ask you out, and you'd be like,
Starting point is 01:37:01 nah, you gotta pay. I'm gonna be like, I don't want to talk to you no more because you don't just ask to know. Based off your logic, you know Cam Newton was on a million dollars
Starting point is 01:37:07 worth of game this week, right? And Cam Newton feels a lot. He feels exactly the way you feel. Cam Newton also said one other thing. He said women talk too much. So you need to shut up right now. Whoa!
Starting point is 01:37:17 Don't let him talk to you like that. No, shut up. Rose. Rose. I love it. I love it. I feel it. I'm down. He said I'm down. No, she like that. All right. Oh, you like this. I love it. I love it. I feel it. I'm down.
Starting point is 01:37:25 She said, I'm down. She like that. All right. Oh, you like being told to shut up. I mean, you know, I'm spicy. I'm Caribbean. What can I say? Oh, okay.
Starting point is 01:37:34 All right. God bless you, queen. Y'all good luck paying for the first date. All right. Thank you. Hello, who's this? Yo, this is Callie from Virginia Beach. V.A.
Starting point is 01:37:46 What's that, 757 or 804? 757 all day. That's right. All right, now talk to us. So what would you do in this situation? You caught in a guy. Now you get to the table. You paying?
Starting point is 01:37:56 No, absolutely not. Even if I pursue a guy, that doesn't make me obligated to have to pay. Because if he's interested, he should still want to court me. If you broke, just say that. Okay? Don't let him talk to you. No, because that's what a woman would do to us. That's exactly what a woman would do to a man. But this is the thing, Ma. You're courting
Starting point is 01:38:15 the guy, right? So the guy might not be all the way into you, so he might be like, you know what? Let me go check this out. Women do it all the time. If you ask a girl out, she might be like, let me see how I like him. He might see how he likes you. He might not like you. So you got to take that all the time. If you ask a girl out, she might be like, let me see how I like him. He might see how you like him. He might not like you. So you got to take that on the chin. Hey, whoa, we didn't get to do all that.
Starting point is 01:38:30 I understand that. That's something I understand. I'm just saying, if you ask me out, you should pay. I just feel like, personally, that if he's not all the way interested, then I pay for my own food. But I'm not going to pay for your food. That's ridiculous. Man, men, we should start doing this. If you go out on a date
Starting point is 01:38:45 and you're not all the way interested and she don't seem all the way interested, then say, hey, I'm going to pay for my food. You pay for your food. There's no need for me to pay for this whole date if we're not feeling each other. I'm not really feeling this. This ain't going nowhere. So I'm just going to pay my part. I didn't know that's how women thought. I've heard that about
Starting point is 01:39:01 three or four times this morning. You had three drinks. You paid for your three drinks. That's right. I'm not really feeling you, so. I just had some water. That's right. Now, that's another question. So if you go out with a man and you're not feeling him, do you still expect him to pay? And you're not feeling him? If he asked you out?
Starting point is 01:39:14 Yes. Yeah, if he asked me out, he should pay. Nope. The women said, all the women calling the pit said, when they're not feeling a person, then they feel like they should pay for their own stuff. That's how men should start moving, too. No, I do think whoever asked the person out person out technically that's the person who should pay that's what i think and i would i bet most men who i know would not allow you to pay for a first
Starting point is 01:39:32 date they'll be like no absolutely not i got it unless maybe he's not really feeling you hey the better question is who paying for the damn gas all right that's the bigger question now what if he what if he gets water and you order three drinks is that rude on a first date to just order a whole bunch of stuff the most expensive things you out
Starting point is 01:39:51 we out we asked him to go out that's courting jeez we asked him to go out but what's the moral of the story if there's a moral I mean
Starting point is 01:39:57 hey I thought the rule was whoever asked the person out is the person who has to pay it's 2022 so I guess the moral of the story is do you man I don't know but you did ask a serious question what who's. It's 2022, so I guess the moral of the story is do you, man? I don't know. But you did ask a serious question. What?
Starting point is 01:40:07 Who's paying for the gas? Who's paying for the gas, man? Gas is too expensive right now. That's what we need to be talking about, okay? That's how you know if somebody like you, alright? If I gotta fill up my gas tank to come see you, I even have a tank to come see you. Alright, well we got rumors on the way. Yes, and let's talk about new music, cause you know, it is Friday.
Starting point is 01:40:23 Alright, we'll get into that next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. It's time. Time. She's spilling the tea. This is The Rumor Report with Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club. Well, it's Friday, so you know what that
Starting point is 01:40:42 means. There's some new music out today. Alright, Lizzo has a new single out. It's called About Damn Time. It's her first single since she put out Rumors featuring Cardi B last year. And she also announced that her new album special is out July 15th. She's also doing Saturday Night Live this weekend. She'll be both the host and the musical guest. Okay, so here is About Damn Time.
Starting point is 01:41:08 Okay. All right. Feel good. About Damn Time. And she also sat down with Zane Lowe and talked about inspiration for that song and other things. The part of my career that's really hard for me to grasp
Starting point is 01:41:22 is accepting that I've done something that's never really happened or that I was a part of like a new movement or a wave. But I remember when I put, I made a song and it was like, I'm in love with myself. I never, I was like, you know what? I've never heard anyone say that in a song.
Starting point is 01:41:37 So I'm going to say it. And I did it like just kind of off the cuff, like silly, like funny, but I didn't realize it would start this whole thing. Like I was watching a commercial, and it was these big girls in it, and it had nothing to do with being big, and I was like...
Starting point is 01:41:51 Yeah. She also has her Amazon Prime show, Watch Out for the Big Girls, that premiered last month. That's interesting. I never thought about it, at least musically. She probably is the first woman to embrace her weight in that way, but Monique was the first woman I remember publicly embracing it, you know, back in the day.
Starting point is 01:42:08 All right, now... And male rappers. Male rappers always embrace it. What about Missy? Nah, I think Monique was saying it proudly, like, you know, I'm a fly big woman, you know? All right, now, K-Flock and Dougie B, Cardi B has teamed up with them for their new song
Starting point is 01:42:24 Shake It. Shake it, shake it, shake it I went to Flockers, I bet she get naked Cardi B has teamed up with them for their new song, Shake It. That record made me like my Palo Santo. I gotta like my Palo Santo. That is just angry. All right. And Trina and Lotto have a song together yet again. You know, Bitch, I'm the South remix was my joint.
Starting point is 01:42:48 And this song is called Clap. Clap. All right, other new music out today. T Grizzly has a new project that's available today and here is Bust It All Down. This new mixtape is called Half T Half Beast. Also Fredo Bang has a new project out today and it is called
Starting point is 01:43:22 Two Face Bang 2. So clearly that's a follow up to his 2018 Two Face Bang. Alright and Lakelly47 she has the release of Shape Up. It's her third and final album in her self-care themed series following Wash and Set and Acrylic. So Wash and Set, Acrylic,
Starting point is 01:43:54 and now we have Shape Up. All right. And Los Angeles MC Airplane James also has a brand new EP out called Low-Key Hurt. So shout out to all of them. A lot of new music out today. I know we don't have everything on here for y'all.
Starting point is 01:44:07 But that's just some of your highlights. I'm Angela Yee and that is your Rumor Report. Alright, thank you Miss Yee. Hey listen, next hour too. Our homie Michelle Williams will be joining us. That's right, we're going to kick it with Michelle. After the replay of the donkey. Yeah, she's in a movie that airs tomorrow on Lifetime.
Starting point is 01:44:24 Called Raft. One of the seven of the donkey. Yeah, she's in a movie that airs tomorrow on Lifetime called Wrath. One of the seven deadly sin stories, executive produced by the good brother Bishop T.D. Jakes. So Michelle Williams will be checking in with us next hour. You see what I did there? Because, you know, she got the podcast, checking in on the Black Effect Podcast Network. Yeah, she'll be checking in next hour.
Starting point is 01:44:41 All right. 800-585-1051. Up next is the People's Choice Mix. And let me remind you guys that my book, the book that I have on my way, Real Life, Real Love,
Starting point is 01:44:49 comes out Tuesday. So you still got time to pre-order. We have the Audible as well. So definitely get it. And I think you guys will really, really love it. Did you call it Audible?
Starting point is 01:45:00 Audible. Audio, Audio Book, I should have said. Yeah, so definitely check it out on Tuesday and pre-order it if you can. Now, Charlamagne, did you read the book yet? I'm reading it now, currently. What's your favorite part so far?
Starting point is 01:45:15 When you break down. Not because I enjoy it. No, no, no, not because it's so vulnerable. You know what I mean? And I think that is something that a lot of men can learn from. Because, you know, we live in this era where everybody wants to see everybody's highlights, but nobody ever shows anybody the process. So they might look at you and Gia now and be like, oh, you know, it's so amazing.
Starting point is 01:45:36 But, you know, you had to get to this space. Yeah, we had to get to work. You had to get to this space. Yeah, we had to get to that work. So, what about you, Yee? First of all, Envy, I did not know all of these things that you've done to Gia. I want to give her a hug. Goodness gracious.
Starting point is 01:45:52 I don't take it like that, though. No, I'm just talking about, like, early on in their relationship when he was courting her. They were kids. They were kids. I was 16. She was 15. He put it through a lot, man. They were kids, like literal kids.
Starting point is 01:46:04 I still want to give Gia a hug. Like me and my wife. They were kids. That could still be traumatizing. Oh, goodness gracious. All right. I think it's dope, though. I mean, and, you know, having an older daughter that you had to explain things to, that's
Starting point is 01:46:15 a, yeah. Yeah, well, pick up the book. That probably had to be the toughest part. All that's in the book, and I can't wait for you guys to read it. But up next, Michelle Williams will be joining us. Michelle Williams will be here. She's in a new movie that comes out tomorrow on Lifetime called Wrath. It's one of the seven deadly sin stories by the good brother, Mr. Bishop T.D. Jakes.
Starting point is 01:46:36 All right, well, we'll talk to her next. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Yep, it's the world's most dangerous morning show, The Breakfast Club. Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee, DJ Envy is out promoting his book, but we got a special guest here today Miss Michelle Williams good morning
Starting point is 01:46:48 good morning Angela Charlamagne how is your energy wonderful it's wonderful because you have the power of Santo
Starting point is 01:46:57 to me down well I had to because you're in here promoting seven deadly sins I don't know what you're still holding on to I was very offended
Starting point is 01:47:04 that you did that when I walked in my energy's right well she came in here promoting Seven Deadly Sins. I don't know what you're still holding on to. I was very offended that you did that when I walked in. My energy's right. Well, she came in here and broke the mic, so. That was act two. What y'all are seeing right now is act two. Take two. Wait a minute. See, Angela, the streets be saying you be telling on people.
Starting point is 01:47:24 Did she just say I broke the mic? We checked the cameras because you came in here. The mic's been working fine and then all of a sudden. Oh, you've been waiting for this. You've been waiting to say something to me and about me. Wow. It's okay. There's nothing bad anyone can say about you. Nothing
Starting point is 01:47:39 except that you broke the mic. Maybe a few exes might can say something. You think they would? Yeah. Really? Like what? That she has wrath. Well, that is the movie Wrath, The Seven Deadly Sins Story. But you are starring in this movie.
Starting point is 01:47:56 Yes, it is. It's my first film starring in a film. And the other day I posted that great things happening at the age of 42. Because I used to think a while ago, how come I haven't done film yet? How come I haven't done film yet? And so I'm like literally just getting started. I've done Broadway.
Starting point is 01:48:17 I've done a few TV episodes of sitcoms. But film, it's like a new season and a new time for me. So 42 to 82, I guess I'll be doing films. How is doing film different for you than doing Broadway? Broadway, you get one chance. Right. But film and television, you have grace because you can film a scene over and over again. They've got to do different angles.
Starting point is 01:48:43 You have to keep the same energy in those different angles but you get more than one chance to get it right but Broadway is live I love the live energy of people and you you got one chance to get it you know you can mess up in Broadway and people might not know like say that is true you can improv you got to be very quick and still make it make sense still make your mess up make sense. Now that's a life, Jen, make it make sense. So, yeah, you are right about that. I want to talk about 42 and how you said, you know, you couldn't get in the film.
Starting point is 01:49:21 What do you think the blockage was in your life that you probably cleared out at 42 that allowed that blessing to flow in? I really did not know about the power of your words, the power of words. I had a friend of mine not too long ago. His name is David Imoniti. And one day he called and said, hey, I'm tripping because about the word future, the meaning of the word future. I'm like, bro, you almost 40. I'm going to need you to know what the word future means. He asked me, what do you think it means? I said, it means something that's about to happen. Like it's nine o'clock right now. 901 is the future. He said, no, no, no. So we looked up. He said, look up the word future. And it means the time or period of time following the moment of speaking or writing.
Starting point is 01:50:00 The period of time. Look it up. It's look it up it's look it up it means so i wrote on my board um i want to star in and produce tv and film that was in late 2020 it was 2020 2021 i got this film wow and i have another script as far as film is concerned so i think for me the past couple years everything that i put on my board has pretty much happened um so you never was a vision board person before this i wasn't i'm not gonna say i wasn't a vision but i had a vision board in 2017 and a lot of those things some of those things happen but things that you pray for when they when they come you're like i'm not worthy so you don't steward it well you don't you don't know how to handle it or like I'm not worthy so you don't steward it well you
Starting point is 01:50:45 don't you don't know how to handle it or you feel unworthy so when you don't feel unworthy you just you push it away and I don't longer do that you know you all can say y'all been doing this for years I've been doing this 22 years so there are a few things that I know I do deserve things that I know I work for so I have to speak it or write it. And in due time, those things will happen. So when I learned the power of my words, even the there are things that happened that I spoke negative about and those things happen. What else is ironic is that when you were younger, you wanted to be a lawyer. And now you're playing a lawyer. I am playing a lawyer.
Starting point is 01:51:26 Come on, Angela. That is true. I wanted to be a prosecuting attorney or a forensic psychiatrist. Why? What else you got playing it? Well, my daddy told me that I talk too much and that I need to be a lawyer. My English teacher called my mama every day because I would not shut up. But I saw the movie Kiss the Girls with Morgan Freeman.
Starting point is 01:51:57 And even at that time, I was always intrigued about the mind of people and why they do what they do. Like him, like he's sitting there like looking at me and I'm wondering what is going through his mind. How is he processing? And I don't mean what is he looking at? what you're looking at like what is he seeing what is he thinking I like to um see that's a problem it's probably I'm seeing I like to interrogate I like to get to the core of things layer by layer peel the onion back to see he would be why people do what they do what's that thing in the court that I can't pronounce the steps this and this there you go the stenographer? The stenographer. That's what he would do.
Starting point is 01:52:26 Court reporter. Yes, he's keeping notes. Okay, got it. And you know you can't cheat on a forensic psychiatrist. You cannot. And you can't cheat on somebody who has a different level of, is the word, discernment. I'm going to feel it before you say it.
Starting point is 01:52:44 I'm going to feel it probably before say it. I'm going to feel it probably before you even do it. I know what you mean. That's a better word to use than crazy. Like, you know she crazy so you can't discernment. Discernment.
Starting point is 01:52:54 Discernment don't have nothing to do with crazy. You know how in relationships they'll say like the dude will be like man, she crazy. No, she's on to you. No, she's on to you.
Starting point is 01:53:02 She's actually psychic. She's clairvoyant. Yeah, she's on to you. Yeah, that's good. She's actually psychic. She's clairvoyant. Yeah, she's on to you. And yeah, get yourself together. Get it right. How was it for you working with Bishop T.D. Jakes, Miss Tina Lawson, people that you're comfortable with in real life?
Starting point is 01:53:19 Awesome. For you to star in a movie for the first time and have that family around you? Bishop Jakes, I read the script, and I was like around you bishop jakes i read the script and i was like did he read the same script that i read because there's some action that says writhing in sheets writhing means tussling writhing honey writhing but that's when you if you believe that fornication is a sin then you know that before you know it it creeps in and it takes over right um and i say that because some people don't think that it is
Starting point is 01:53:52 uh sex before marriage is not a sin um working with miss tina was like safety came on set you know a parental figure came on set she's supposed to be in a scene acting but she's running over to me fixing flyaways because that's that's what she would do with us on the road and um there were parts in the script where miss tina would say in real life i don't know michelle you need to pray about that i don't know michelle put your your sword down. Stop fighting. Stop, you know. So this is real life. And those scenes were pretty powerful with her. Well, Michelle has to go. We just got the text.
Starting point is 01:54:32 It literally said Michelle has to leave. You telling a lie. You better light that pallo up again for your lie. I just got the text. Oh, I did. It says, have to wrap up. Michelle has to leave. It does say that.
Starting point is 01:54:43 If you busy, you busy. Oh, I think she sent a text saying, tell them I have to wrap up. Michelle has to leave. It does say that. If you busy, you busy. Okay. Oh, I think she sent a text saying, tell them I have to leave. No! And wrap, light her up. Make sure you subscribe to the Checking In podcast with Michelle Williams.
