Starting point is 00:00:00 You have to be very careful with tradition because sometimes tradition is just dead people's baggage. I'm Jamel Hill, host of the Sports and Politics podcast, Spolitics. On this week's episode, I talk with comedian Roy Wood Jr. about the lack of African-American star power in major league baseball. Baseball needs an Anthony Edwards. And I don't know who that could be. Mookie Betts is Steph Curry. He's exceptional and likable, million dollar smile, but you also need Chaos Negro. Listen to Spolitics on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to Pod of Rebellion,
Starting point is 00:00:38 our new Star Wars Rebels Rewatch podcast. I'm Vanessa Marshall, voice of Harrison Dula Spectre 2. I'm Tia Sir voice of Harrison Dula, Spectre 2. I'm Tia Zarkar, Sabine Ren, Spectre 5. I'm Taylor Grey, Ezra Bridger, Spectre 6. And I'm John LeBrony, the Ghost Crew Stowaway moderator. Each week we're going to re-watch and discuss an episode from the series and share some fun behind the scenes stories. Sometimes we'll be visited by special guests like Steve Blum, voice of Zabarelio, Spectre 4 or Dante Bosco voice of Jaiquel and many others. So hang on because it's going to be a fun ride. Cue the music. Listen to Potter Rebellion on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. 45 years ago, a Virginia soul band called the Edge of Daybreak recorded their debut album,
Starting point is 00:01:26 Behind Bars. Record collectors consider it a masterpiece. The band's surviving members are long out of prison, but they say they have some unfinished business. The Edge of Daybreak, Eyes of Love, was supposed to have been followed up by another app. Listen to Soul Incarcerated on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's up, y'all? This is Eric Andre. But I made a podcast called Bombing
Starting point is 00:01:53 about absolutely tanking on stage. I tell gnarly stories and I talk to friends about their worst moments of bombing in all sorts of ways. Bombing on stage, bombing in public, bombing in life. Like the time I stole a girl's phone during a set and she jumped on stage and threw a big haymaker punch to my nose.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Listen to Bombing with Eric Andre on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. ["Bombing with Eric Andre"] Have you guys ever been in a friend zone that you wanted to get out of? Of course. Yeah. Yeah? Did you get out of it?
Starting point is 00:02:32 No, I'm still in the friend zone right now. Oh. She got a shriek. See how workplaces. No, that's not bad. I took him to the good part so he didn't really see the trenched out part. I done been to the trenches. Who took you to the trenches in the trenches?
Starting point is 00:02:45 I don't been outside of the trenches. I done had shows everywhere. I'm pretty sure I done been everywhere. I done been in your trenches though, right? Yeah, facts. They just dial it? Yeah, hey, yeah, yeah, back in the day for sure. What's going on guys?
Starting point is 00:02:59 Naila Simone here with another episode of We Need To Talk and today I have two very special guests in the building. We have Jaquice and Dej. Yeah. Yo, what's up? I'm so happy to have you guys here at the same time I feel like somebody should pinch me it feels too good to be true. That's hard right? How are you guys? Good, great. Feeling good. Feeling good? Great. I know we got Fuckin Friends Zone 2 out now. It's been a minute since you guys did this tape. What made you guys want to come back together
Starting point is 00:03:30 and give us another one? Well, we had to. I mean, it's been a long time, you know what I'm saying, since we dropped the first one. We dropped the first one in 2017. And the fans wanted it. You know, we wanted to do it too also. You know, we've been creating music throughout the years.
Starting point is 00:03:44 And this was just like perfect timing. You know what I'm saying? We found the perfect wanted to do it too also. We've been creating music throughout the years. This was just like perfect timing, you know what I'm saying? We found the perfect gap to put it out. And so we found the perfect opportunity also. And then everything just lined up. Everything just started lining up after one by one, we started working in the studio and we had a couple records,
Starting point is 00:04:00 but the records got better and better. And we just like, man, we gotta keep working, working, working. Makes the old with the new. Yeah, you know what know I'm saying and it just became what it is and you know, we got an official day and it's lit I love it. Now. How did you guys reconnect in the studio? Was it like you were sitting on old songs was like these need to be out or was it just like the demand of the fans? Like you say we've been working throughout the year So it was never a disconnect it was a little bit of a disconnect but you know. A lot of life has happened for the both of you guys in the time span. Yeah so yeah like we just
Starting point is 00:04:34 took the records that we had already done like from those days like from 20 do we have 2017 records like we got Yeah, it's like also okay Yeah, like questions is like the one I feel like that popped it off where we was like, oh, yeah, we're doing a part two Yeah, facts. That was like 2019 in Atlanta So yeah, we was out there and you know, like I say, we just always had that connection with the music like, okay We got to put this out at some point maybe and the fans they want it. They're like the people who? demanded is I'm here for how has or has the chemistry changed at all in recording process and styles since you guys
Starting point is 00:05:19 You know first did it. No, it's the same. Really? Yeah It's the same is the same energy like as far as the energy, you know, the did it? Nah, it's the same. Really? Yeah, it's the same. It's the same energy. Like, as far as the energy, you know, the conversation is more mature, but as far as the energy that's put into creating the songs, it's the same, you know? The vibes change a little bit. He don't drink.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Oh yeah, well that's the difference. Like, I don't be in the studio lit. I used to be turk. I think that's a little, you know, that's good. You know, I still drink, but is he less fun? She told me that before. Right. I'm like trying to, you know, I respect it
Starting point is 00:05:51 because he used to be crazy. So when I say the music, you know, it's still hit for, you know, I respect the work that they've been, how he just like cleaned it up a lot. Like he's gotten better, make me want to step it up and stop drinking or you know Work on my vocals more because he's like serious. It's like more serious now. I Know I've noticed he was being like he was like thought he was the man then but it's like I see like who you want
Starting point is 00:06:16 To be then so it's like he's him now. So you know I appreciate it That's actually what's up, honestly I appreciate that. That's actually what's up, honestly. That's real. Growth. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:29 What would you guys say is the biggest difference between one and two? Eight. Yeah, just the maturity in the music. Maturity. Yeah. Yeah, the content just like, you know, I feel like it was a little, you know, that crush, you know, back then, like, you know. And this is kind of like a like a deeper standpoint like you go to a different level in the friend zone
Starting point is 00:06:49 I we're not at the level we was at then, you know, right? It's kind of like Yeah, like, you know in the music. It's like a step up So if you listen to part one, it'll be like it's kind of like a movie Yeah, like when you got your favorite characters in a movie and it's like oh I could tell on this one They grew up. Oh, like you know saying it's like people always want to see the all grown-up versions of things that they had in their childhood We got a lot of people who's made babies off this the first one and I got so for real Yeah, we compete in with a lot. I want people to show me they fuck a friend's own babies like They Pete they be telling me like like man you don't it's like
Starting point is 00:07:25 so many stories behind the album the mixtape shall I say yeah so in conclusion to this tape is it really fucked the Friend Zone is it like you know what we here we in this or is it or are we keeping it in the Friend Zone the conclusion of the project I'm trying to think is high end cuz it is like I feel like I'm gonna have that curiosity yeah I think that's what it is. It's like it's still gonna leave you with a question mark. Oh man Okay, you never just show your full, you know, I don't know You know leave you up in that and as life So, you know, you just keep it there so you can continue going and keep it
Starting point is 00:08:00 You know, I'm a friend zone three Like I think it can just keep going and getting right. You know, it may come to an end where, you know, the title may change, but no, I think it's, you know. I'll take a trilogy. I would, I would, I would love a trilogy. Just a three or close it off a three pack. This one definitely stepped it up a little bit.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Yeah, it's super hard. I love this one. Who did you guys work with in the studio producer wise? We work with a lot of the same producers but um, Nash B of course gotta have him. Kari. West Side Kari. From Detroit. IROQ. IRS. Yeah. A lot of the guys. Oh, he made music. The club. Yeah, what's that? Yeah, Kari made that. Oh boy. Classic. Classic.
Starting point is 00:08:50 OG Parker. Oh nice. I gotta say music major. Couple more of the guys. I can't remember everybody up top. Did you guys go back and forth between Detroit and Atlanta in producing this? Nah, we did a lot of these records in Atlanta,
Starting point is 00:09:02 LA, and Miami pretty much. Yeah, started in Atlanta, you know. But yeah, I feel like Atlanta and Miami are definitely very fucker friend zone type of cities too. You say Atlanta and Miami? Oh yeah, for sure. Those cities just for sure, like bring real off that energy. Our last video was shot in Miami and Atlanta. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:09:25 That's our territory though. Yeah. That's who's. That makes a lot of sense. I can't. I brought him to Detroit to shoot the cover. Oh, thanks. That's the most he's came to.
Starting point is 00:09:35 My stomping grounds. Yeah. How was that? It was dope. I just thought it was dope to do it out there anyway, just because she from there. And it's just like, it's something different than, hey. You know what I'm saying? It's like a way to connect out there. So I thought it was there and it's just like, it's something different than, hey,
Starting point is 00:09:45 you know what I'm saying, it's like a way to connect out there, so I thought it was super dope. And I took him to the good part, so he didn't really see the trenched out part. I done been to the trenches. Who took you to the trenches in the? I done been outside of the trenches, I done had shows everywhere,
Starting point is 00:09:57 I'm pretty sure I done been everywhere. I done been to your trenches though, right? Yeah, facts. Ha ha. They just valid? Yeah, hey, yeah, yeah, back in the day for sure. For sure. Super valid. Speaking of Detroit, I actually just had Iceware Vizzle on and we were talking about how like hip-hop sound is heavily shaped by Detroit but it's just
Starting point is 00:10:21 not really talked about. How do you feel about that? Do you agree with that, or does it bother you at all? It doesn't bother me. I mean, we all know, everybody's in the mix. Everybody's on deck now, so they see it. It took us a while to get here and just kind of stamp our song and show people this was us the whole time. But, you know, even with my song,
Starting point is 00:10:48 like a lot of people, you know, they ran with it and milked it out and shit. So I was bothered at first, but now I'm good, you know? You live, you learn, you recognize, you're great. And then, you know, people gonna copy, you know? So shout out to my city. Like we definitely deserve our flowers and all that we do from the fashion, the music, the food.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Yeah. Detroit. Now I'm gonna give you your flowers because you were definitely one of the first. Like that's why I'm like, oh my God, sorry, please pinch me. I have both you guys here. Appreciate that. And just especially as a woman, like you breaking through with Major for the female rap movement like in general. But then on top of that being from Detroit, I didn't even really think about that. It's kind of crazy. Yeah. Definitely kind of, you know, popped it off a little bit, but you know, open the door for everybody else. How were you able to break through,
Starting point is 00:11:45 especially at a time when Detroit wasn't even this lit? You say it, say it again. How were you able to break through being from Detroit, even though Detroit wasn't even this on right now? Just having that mentality, like just, how you say, just knowing, we kinda got like this, not arrogant, but we kinda know who we are.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Like we know we was going to make it once somebody seen us. So that's the mentality I always kept, like if somebody hear this, somebody see this, you know, it's going to go where it need to go. So I think everybody kind of has that, you know, whenever we was going to get in the door, like somebody, they was going to, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:24 see a lot of us come through. So yeah. So it wasn't really a matter of if it was just like, when? Like- Yeah, it was just when for me, like, you know, I'm like, that's how I always felt, like, it's gonna happen. And talk to me about like, I guess,
Starting point is 00:12:40 being okay with imitation being a form of flattery? Cause even I myself would be like, I peep it and I don't love it, but I know I should be flattered. How did you, I guess, accept that? Um, just, at nature I'm just like, you know, I got a good heart, so I just don't take things to the, you know, extreme, I feel like that. Even if I'm talking like, you know, I'm I got a good heart so I just don't take things to the you know extreme I feel like I you know, even if I'm talking to most my people
Starting point is 00:13:09 Where they're talking to me and just you know, some people just was feeding me different stuff You see it online so you get you know that kind of influences And trigger certain things but it's like do I really care about this? Do I do I really you know and I but you know, it took time, cause it's like, you don't understand it sometimes, like, wait, why are you, you wanna be, you know, I just don't get it, but now, you know, I get it. I didn't get it at first, it was like, cause I personally don't, you know, I'm inspired by things
Starting point is 00:13:38 and you know, all things, but it's like, I don't just go and just copy and paste you know so it was tough but you know. But the good thing about you is like you're already the bar so you just gotta keep seeing you. You just gotta find more you know find more things for people to copy and just keep doing you know keep being who you are you know I'm saying it's really so natural that it's hard to even care. It's like, eh. So yeah, stay in your lane and just keep doing you for real.
Starting point is 00:14:11 And nobody's gonna miss you in that sense. They don't see, they don't know who's the real, or. I definitely love when you and Larry collab. For several reasons, I think the Detroit sound compliments the bae. I said that's my other twin. That really is your other twin. Is that that song that they just played? Yeah. Okay, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Yo, they just got work husbands. You one of them and she got another one. She got work husbands. Don't start that now, man. It works. You're She got work husbands. Don't start that now, man. It is. Work husbands. You're the original work husband, but then she got Barry now, too. Which I'm a fan of both.
Starting point is 00:14:54 You know, we supposed to make an album, too, for a mixtape. Like, we was working on some stuff. We got some stuff in the tuck, so hopefully we, you know, get that going. Work husband is crazy. It's different energy though. With y'all it's like not toxic. It's just more like sensual with the other one. It's like sensual with a little more peace.
Starting point is 00:15:13 Platonic friendship. Yeah, I'm not talking about in real life. I'm talking about music. Okay, you had me going. No, I know. I don't want no problem. I don't want to get him in trouble. I like the situation you got going on. She seems like a great person. No, I know. I don't want no problem. I don't want to get him in trouble.
Starting point is 00:15:25 I like the situation you got going on. She seems like a great person. Yeah, everything's great. Yeah, everything is everything. I don't want no smoke. But I will say, y'all know online, people will always be talking about y'all and how cute y'all are and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Of course. What is going on? Why couldn't DeAndre come to the video shoot? You said why? Yeah. I mean, I don't know why. Oh my God. You won't do this to me.
Starting point is 00:15:53 I don't know why. I mean, it's work. You know, and in work environments, there have to be a work space. Are you in a relationship? Currently, no. I just got out of a four-year. Oh. Yeah, but that's what I think, though Like workspaces have to feel like workspaces. Like you know I'm
Starting point is 00:16:08 saying like sometimes when you working and you know you got people there at your relationships with the different things like that sometimes it could just naturally throw the energy off. You know that's what I naturally think like especially when you got to work so close with someone you know I'm saying it's like naturally you might not try to wear your emotion on your face not saying she does or anything like that but that could happen you know what I'm saying? It's like naturally you might not try to wear your emotion on your face, not saying she does or anything like that, but that could happen, you know what I'm saying? A person could do that.
Starting point is 00:16:30 I remember working with females back in the day and they do to be in the studio and I come in there and I automatically tell my partners like, hey bro, they do feel some type of way, I could tell. You feel me? And it'll just shift the room, you know what I'm saying? So, you know, I think to just make this the greatest that we wanted to be and the greatest that the fans deserve,
Starting point is 00:16:47 I just think all the energy should just be put towards this. You know, time and place for everything. Like I think things should be separated, you know what I'm saying? Certain things. Yeah. Time and place. I get that.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Cause it takes like, it's all energy. Exactly. Yeah, yeah. Everything, especially when you really especially when you really write your music and you really like, you know what I'm saying? It's like, you have to really get into a world where you can create that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:13 You know what I'm saying? You gotta keep that chemistry on and off camera, like, what's natural, that's the thing too, because it's so real, it's like, you might feel like, oh, wait a minute, you know, that's my man, which I get, but you know, we just working. Yeah. Trying to, you know.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Trying to be great. Trying to be great, make a way for the fam. Man, y'all are great. You have to be very careful with tradition because sometimes tradition is just dead people's baggage. I'm Jamel Hill, host of the sports and politics podcast, Spolitix. On this week's episode, I talk with comedian and CNN host Roy Wood Jr. about the lack of
Starting point is 00:17:49 African-American star power in Major League Baseball. Baseball needs an Anthony Edwards. And I don't know who that could be. Mookie Betts is Steph Curry. He's exceptional and likeable, million dollar smile. That's important. But you also need Chaos Negro. You need-
Starting point is 00:18:12 So you think Anthony Edwards is a Chaos agent? He told, he talked, you saw the clip of him talking to Obama. He was talking to Obama like that was his little brother. Oh yeah, you, what you did, you killed Ben Laden. That's what's up. Listen to Spolitix on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to Pod of Rebellion,
Starting point is 00:18:31 our new Star Wars Rebels Rewatch podcast. I'm Vanessa Marshall. Hi, I'm Tia Sircar. I'm Taylor Gray. And I'm John Lee Brody. But you may also know us as Harrison Dula, Spectre 2. Tabin Wren, Spectre 5.
Starting point is 00:18:43 And Ezra Bridger, Spectre 6 from Star Wars Rebels. Wait, I wasn't on Star Wars Rebels. Am I in the right place? Absolutely. Each week, we're going to rewatch and discuss an episode from the series. And share some fun behind the scenes stories. Sometimes we'll be visited by special guests
Starting point is 00:18:59 like Steve Blum, voice of Zabarelio, Spectre 4, or Dante Bosco, voice of Jaiquel, and many others. Sometimes we'll even have a live way debate. And we'll have plenty of other fun surprises and trivia too. Oh, and me? Well, I'm the lucky ghost crew Stowaway who gets to help moderate and guide the discussion each week.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Kind of like how Kanan guided Ezra in the ways of the Force. You see what I did there? Nicely done, John. Thanks, Tia. So, hang on, because it's gonna be a fun ride. Cue the music! Listen to Potter Rebellion on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Are we ready to fight? I'm ready to fight. Is that what I thought it was? Oh, this is fighting words. Okay. I'll put the hammer
Starting point is 00:19:46 back. Hi, I'm George M. Johnson, a bestselling author with the second most banned book in America. Now more than ever, we need to use our voices to fight back. And that's what we're doing on Fighting Words. We're not going to let anyone silence us. That's the reason why they're banning books like yours, George. That's the reason why they're trying to stop the teaching of Black history or queer history,
Starting point is 00:20:11 any history that challenges the whitewash norm. Or put us in a box. Black people have never, ever depended on the so-called mainstream to support us. That's why we are great. We are the greatest culture makers in world history. Listen to Fighting Words on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Join me as we uncover innovations in data and analytics, the math and the ever important creative spark, the magic. Listen to math and magic stories from the frontiers of
Starting point is 00:21:42 marketing on the iHeartRadio app, radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast What was about to be your follow-up question? She said you in a relationship Yeah, cuz I was saying like, you know, would you allow your partner to just be with you at work on you know? every day or oh Every day. No, but sometimes cool. Like yeah, sometimes sometimes it's cool. That's why I was a time and a place No, but sometimes cool like yeah, sometimes sometimes it's cool. That's why I was a time and a place Same things you require but then it's like, you know, that's you know, that's all I was gonna ask. Okay now I'm with it I'm with it. I'm with you guys Was there any records in this recording process that you guys were like surprised that y'all came over like oh this
Starting point is 00:22:19 This actually some shit Like like what you mean like a record that's like damn, how we do that? Yeah, like y'all are surprised on how good it was. I think Just Another Love Song was like a creep up classic. Like wow, we had got back in the studio in Miami and we was planning to finish our project. And I had my boy K Major down there with us. I had Nashville with us, she had her people with her. We had our teams with us. Shout out Young Rock.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Yeah, shout out to Young Rock. That's one of her guys. And we just got in there, doing what we doing. And just another love song came about. And I love that song. I think that's probably my favorite song on the project. And it's just a classic. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:22:59 It's just a classic. And I think that's a song we made. I was just like, dang, this feel like the icing on the cake to what we got. This feel like what we made, I was just like, dang, this feel like the icing on the cake to what we got. This feel like what we need. Because without that record, the project would've still been great, but when you creating an album,
Starting point is 00:23:12 everything kinda go together. That's why the order important, you know what I'm saying, for the songs, because a song could be out of order, and then they might throw the whole album off. But this right here was just perfect. The first three we did in Miami on the album, the first three tracks. Yeah, just another little song, Favorite One, Back Door. The first three we did in Miami on the album, the first three tracks. Yeah, like, just another love song, favorite one,
Starting point is 00:23:27 backdoor, all those records we did, like right up in there. So it was special and it's just super dope. And like I say, it was all about energy. You know what I'm saying? We came to the studio literally in the same outfit, didn't even plan it. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:23:40 Like literally, and was gonna wear the same shoes. I had on some Timbs when I came in there, I was like, I thought about wearing the Timbs. I was like, this is crazy. That is crazy. You know what I'm saying? Wait literally, and was gonna wear the same shoes. I had on some Timbs when I came in there like I thought about wearing the Timbs. I was like, this is crazy. That is crazy. You know what I'm saying? Wait, what are y'all signs? Aries.
Starting point is 00:23:51 I knew that. Both Aries? I'm an Aries to you. Oh hell no, that is crazy. Yeah, so it just be the vibes. And once we feel that type of vibe, it's easy to make the music. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:24:02 It's easy because it's familiar. Like man, oh, it's like this easy. You know, we could easily go to that world where we know how to make the music. You know what I'm saying? It's easy because it's familiar. You're like, man, oh, boom, boom. It's like just easy. You know, we could easily go to that world where we know how to create like that. You've been down to not even having other writers and stuff. Like we open, but we, you know, we got it. Cause we, it's so like, I'm talking to you, like.
Starting point is 00:24:16 It's dope. It's just like, it's like conversation. Yeah. And it's just so, so many ways you can go with it. You know what I'm saying? Cause our whole time of creating just always been something to make people just guess when you can go with it. You know what I'm saying? Because our whole time of creating just always been something to make people just guess when you listen to the music.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Like. What's happening? Yeah, you know what I'm saying? But that's how good it is. You know what I'm saying? Like that's how you want it to be. That's like if your favorite actor is acting in some movies, you're like, wait, they play that part too good.
Starting point is 00:24:38 Like, wait, what the fuck going on? You know what I'm saying? That's how I feel about us. You know, I feel like it's like. Too good. It's so good. Like it just be like, wait feel like it's like too good. It's too it's so good I it just be like wait not to be true. Yeah exactly. It's like wait How the fuck cuz it's so good and this one honestly is better than the first really if it is like, oh
Starting point is 00:24:56 Yeah, it's better than the first one. You feel it's like it always get better. You feel me? It's like this this better. You feel me is better. The first one was great, too It was so great and was this one this better, you feel me? It's better, the first one was great too, it was so great. It was. This one great too though, I'm not even lying to you, cause it's like, it just flow. It's like if you, if we going in order, like if we were playing the first one, then we play this, it'll be perfect.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Like it won't go down, it'll go up. That's how I feel about a favorite one, like that's number two on the album. Like that's one of the ones to answer that question. Like, I mean, we do it all the the time though like the more we make a hit I'll be like I want to make another one like we can be and we can we can go she don't like to stop record it We have you know, we would have still been recording this We can go bigger like and I honestly feel like fuck a friend zone isn't just our ceiling of music
Starting point is 00:25:42 We can make we just only use this type of content and you know, but I feel like we can go beyond a lot of this. Well, where are you trying to take it? I mean, I'm saying this because the music just can't come right. You know, it's a conversation topic. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like gospel, like we can get in there. Like it's a music connection.
Starting point is 00:26:00 It's like the type of, you know, we kind of think the same in some ways, you know, we kind of, you know. Real talk. It's easy. It's like, it's it you know, we kind of think the same in some ways, you know, we kind of, you know. Real talk. It's easy. It's like, it's it, that's all it is. When it's easy to create like this, you know it's special. Yeah, like when it's easy, it just like make,
Starting point is 00:26:15 it feel like money, you feel like we can get some out of it. I love that for both of you, actually. Like I like the chemistry you guys have together. I always liked it on the music, but seeing you guys in person and hearing y'all talk about it, it's like, ah you guys have together. I always liked it on the music, but seeing you guys in person and hearing y'all talk about it, it's like, ah, it makes sense. I feel.
Starting point is 00:26:30 See, they gotta see it to believe. Yeah. Real talk. But, okay, so when it came to doing the track list together, you guys are saying that this project is made to be played in order. Yeah, I think so. Like once you got to play it in order the first time. think so like once you got a play the order the first time
Starting point is 00:26:45 Okay, you know saying and it ain't no reason for you to skip around cuz I know features So it ain't nothing you gonna read on the back. I want to hit us on him I want this when you take your listen and you pick your favorite Yeah, then you can tell people like let it order you could float But if you if I had to tell somebody or we had to tell somebody to play it I would tell my a let it ride the first time then go do it. It's definitely one of them riders. Yeah. Just let it ride, it's just music.
Starting point is 00:27:09 Was it difficult to put in order? Was it like, nah, I got to be like this, this, this, because you get help? Every time we made a song, I was just like, we was moving the order. Like boom, we'll make a song, be like, OK, this sounds good right here. Boom.
Starting point is 00:27:23 But we didn't change it after Like after a while was like it's stuck Amy song facts cuz I was gonna say even we play the songs We'll know which one next is really added the Miami songs the first top three other ones have been we've been had Yeah, and we needed them though We did we had we still got other records in the took that didn't make it with Oh, yeah, we got so many songs that didn't make it. That's hard. So what are we doing?
Starting point is 00:27:48 What? I mean, we'll find a way to put them out. You know what I'm saying? Cause we getting ready to go on tour too, so. I know, I honestly love that. I wish the tour was on Valentine's Day, I'm not gonna lie. That would have been crazy.
Starting point is 00:27:59 That would be front fucking row. With your four year dude? No. Why, see why, why you want to play? Because you just were so lit for Valentine's Day. I'm like, well, who you going to go with? Don't worry about me. OK, see what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:28:13 You going to do that to me, though? You can't tell me, though. What you mean? All right, I'll tell you off camera. Your shit is public, not mine. It's different. There you go. See what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:28:23 Look, see how he capes? All right. Oh my gosh. Okay, so I just would like to say. Well for Betty who's in the full year, brazo it. Man, yo, this guy hates me. This guy hates me. Okay, so if you guys had to describe Fuck a Friend Zone in one word, what's the one word?
Starting point is 00:28:44 We will be your version of one? Like we would, just give me an example. Spicy, sensual, toxic. I would say a little toxic. A little toxic and sensual. My word is platonic, that's the word of the day. They said I am standing on business okay. The music is that for sure. Okay. Very you know platonic it's cute. It's cute. You know it's friends that's my word friends friendship. That was a nice word cute I rarely say cute
Starting point is 00:29:22 I call my son cute sometimes. Yeah men hate the word cute I don't like but should be cute should do be cute. I mean girls say it but you feel I just literally start saying oh man I had to like Yeah, that's not an insult That's why I was just like oh man my son is so cute dad. I know he's so handsome Yes, I'm baby. I was like, yeah, just my baby. That's the only time men can use the word cute Yeah, I guess you know Dan, but then. Just my baby. That's the only time men can use the word cute. Yeah, I guess. You know, then, but then we're going to throw the little,
Starting point is 00:29:46 oh, no, little bit handsome right behind it. Because it. You know what? See, we got to unpack this masculine. I mean, that's just real. It just don't even sound like rolling off the lip a little bit. You put me.
Starting point is 00:29:59 What? Cute. Did you say cute? You feel me? OK. Yeah, that's? Yeah. You feel it, yeah. Okay, yeah. That's a part of just masculine energy, I guess. I'll leave it at that. Have you guys ever been in a friend zone
Starting point is 00:30:13 that you wanted to get out of? Of course. Yeah. Yeah? Hey, we are on the same line. Oh yeah, I have. Yeah. Did you get out of it?
Starting point is 00:30:20 You don't gotta go into details, I'm just. Yeah. No, I'm still in the friend zone right now. Oh. How'd she get out of it? How? Mm-hmm. It's kept working.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Surprising. Consistency? Yeah. That's when I was younger. Okay. And, Dade, you said you're still in it? Kind of, but, you know, it's circumstantial, so it's kind of like, you know.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Okay. I can't write that, but you know, it's circumstantial. So it's kind of like, you know, I can't write that, but yeah. Are you going to send the tape and be like, number two, number three? They're going to hear it. They're going to hear it, one through 15. 16. Oh, 16, 16. 16.
Starting point is 00:31:01 It's a 16 track project? Yeah. And y'all got more. And we dropping a deluxe. They gonna be surprised with the deluxe. It's crazy. Have you ever been in the friend zone? Yeah, I feel like that's like story of my life actually.
Starting point is 00:31:16 For real? Yeah. Is it a reason? With who? I think because, you know, this thing. I think I give like a girl next door vibe, so I think it's like, I think I give girl next door vibes
Starting point is 00:31:31 and I think like people will respect me. So because of that, they don't want to necessarily. You be wanting them to like cross that fucking line. I be wanting them to step over it. That's what they say it like. You gotta push up. Why I gotta push up? I'm a lady, I don't wanna do that.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Nah, you gotta go look in the mirror and push up. That shit gonna work. That's not how it's supposed to go though. It can though. Men like women that'll push up. Women in the friend zone, it's like, it sound like. But a woman can't automatically get out of it. Anybody can be in the friend zone.
Starting point is 00:32:00 You can get out of it. I'm rooting for you. I mean money make them, you know, but it's like. I'm rooting for you. Like from there make them, you know, but it's a big fight. I'm rooting for you. Life for you. Not you pushing me. It's like, I don't want to take on masculine energy. Then that story just not even fly.
Starting point is 00:32:12 Because like, say it works out. Then it's like, yeah, your mom came and did. Like, nah, like, no. I want to be pursued. And I think like. Like heavy. Yeah, I want to be pursued. I feel like this generation of men
Starting point is 00:32:23 just be getting away with too much shit. Like nah, work for this. Yeah, when he came he chasing men. It's cute once again for men to do like, you know, not cute. I ain't gonna say to be in the friend zone. But it's more, you know, prominent with you guys. Like, okay, he's gonna, you know, try to chase. I'm not a woman, but just hearing you guys speak on it is really dope. How many times you been put in the friend zone? Uh shh my whole life. Uh. Oh god. My whole life. Like what? No I'm saying. I was saying. But do you always go after women that you
Starting point is 00:32:52 like shouldn't have or like what is it? I mean will I have a friend zone? I think a lot of guys like we might start off in the friend zone but then we eventually like she say we eventually gonna get the prize. Eventually? Yeah eventually. Cause guys gonna keep at it. Yeah, his thing is consistency That's what I say it's cute for guys like they'll chase and chase and chase Yeah, but a woman just constantly on your body for years. Oh you said like chasing I thought you meant like not chasing but it's like Not chasing just basically like on you like seeing what's going Not just tasting, but like trying. Just basically like on you, like seeing what's going.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Why you might have been trying it for years, just trying to see. I think timing, maybe. Has a woman ever put themselves out there to you and like, you was with it? You put her in a friend zone? What you mean, like I have a woman ever approach me like, hey, this is what I want to do, and I'm like, hey, no. Like turn her down? Essentially.
Starting point is 00:33:43 I'm not going to say this is what you want wanna do, but she just put it out there like, we're friends, but I wanna be more than friends. Have you ever been in that predicament? Oh, of course. Not of course. I'm a queen. Oh my God. Like, you feel me?
Starting point is 00:33:55 It's like, I'm a queen, so it's like. And were you into it? No, I mean, you gotta think, like even growing up, like sometimes even when you grow up with females and stuff like that, if y'all grew up together, sometimes like we all get a certain age They try to turn the corner you feel me like that's another part of life growing up You know I'm saying like you have to be like nah, I don't look at you like that. You feel me? That's the first turn
Starting point is 00:34:20 I'm saying but it might be like it might be like that did there's some more years come and it's like wait You know, I'm saying then it might be like it might be like that did there's some more years come and it's like wait You know Sam then you want to spend the block sometimes it be like that if you're I've seen it happen insanity I've seen it happen like wait. Hold on wait. I know you since kindergarten No, that's weird watch out and then they get in college and stuff like that and then it's a whole different story Watch out is crazy. See this is why I'm saying my black It's crazy. See, this is why I'm saying my black ass right the fuck over here. Nope.
Starting point is 00:34:46 Like what? Oh my God. Okay. If you guys were able to do a visual album or short film on this project, what would the storyline be? Cause low key, if we're gonna have like a modern day black movie, like rom-com,
Starting point is 00:35:00 like a Love Jones or 11 Basketball, I could like- Oh, this is that for sure. The story is here. We're gonna do something like that. Cause it's just make basketball. I could, like. Oh, this is that for sure. The story is here. We gonna do something like that, cause it's just make, it's like, it's dope. I always think about that when I listen to the songs and stuff, I would be like, man, this would be like,
Starting point is 00:35:13 cause you could vision it. You know, it's like a visionary project. You could just like see it and create your own movie. It always put me in the mind of like love and basketball and all that stuff. And the videos make it like that. We've been, you know, making video. We had no videos to the last album.
Starting point is 00:35:27 Thanks. Wasn't since At The Club. That was the only video. We had three videos in now on this album. Yeah, and we got another video shoot tomorrow. Oh, oh. Did you guys think that At The Club was gonna be as big as it was?
Starting point is 00:35:40 Yeah, I knew it. See, that was enough. That was one of them. Oh, really? That's the only one you were talking about. Like, I can't believe we made this. I can't believe we made that record, but I knew it. See, that was enough, that was one of them. That was the one of them you were talking about, like I can't believe we made this. I can't believe we made that record, but I knew it was gonna be big. After we recorded it, I remember being with my homeboy,
Starting point is 00:35:51 leaving the studio like early morning, late night, whatever we left, and I just remember him like, Cuh, this the one. He was just like, I never forget how he said it like, Cuh, this the one. Like we had them record music, like I had been working and doing stuff, he's like, C like, this is it.
Starting point is 00:36:06 And it was really that. Like it was one of the records like, I like, I can't believe we made this. I can't believe this ain't no sample or nothing. I can't believe nobody wants to like, like take it and just, you know, you know, like even the labels, cause I was signed at the time.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Like they wasn't really rocking with me doing the mixtape. Yeah. I ain't gonna say they wasn't. Let with me doing the mixtape. Yeah, and everything. I ain't gonna say they wasn't, let me not say that, but it was just like, you know, other things that I hadn't even put out on my debut album, so it was like, focus on you more, so maybe, I don't know. But I was just like, like I said, I like creating and it sounded good,
Starting point is 00:36:37 and I'm just like, this one to them. I don't know why y'all sleeping, who playing, but this is it. And it still goes. And Westside Khari, like a lot of his beats, he make hits, man. Like every beat he send is a hit. So it's up to the artist to do the job.
Starting point is 00:36:52 I think, I know. Facts. He got that song, so. I love that record. I do it every Thursday and have an R&B night out here. Me too. You play it? All the time.
Starting point is 00:37:02 Off the shelf. Like that record always gets burned. It's damn near perfect, so. Appreciate that. Yeah, man. I'm excited to All the time. Oh, for sure. Like that record always gets burned. It's damn near perfect. Appreciate that. Yeah, man. I'm excited to hear the tape. It's crazy. It's going to be dope.
Starting point is 00:37:10 You have to be very careful with tradition because sometimes tradition is just dead people's baggage. I'm Jamelle Hill, host of the Sports and Politics podcast, Spolitics. On this week's episode, I talk with comedian and CNN host Roy Wood Jr. about the lack of African American star power in Major League Baseball. Baseball needs an Anthony Edwards. And I don't know who that could be. Mookie Betts is Steph Curry.
Starting point is 00:37:39 He's exceptional and likeable, million dollar smile. That's important. But you also need chaos Negro. So you think Anthony Edwards is a chaos agent? He told, you saw the clip of him talking to Obama. He was talking to Obama like that was his little brother. Oh yeah, what you did, you killed Ben Laden. That's what's up.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Listen to Spolitix on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to Pod of Rebellion, our new Star Wars Rebels Rewatch podcast. I'm Vanessa Marshall. Hi, I'm Tia Sircar. I'm Taylor Gray. And I'm John Lee Brody.

Johnson, a bestselling author with the second most banned book in the world. Oh, this is fighting words. OK, I'll put the hammer back.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Hi, I'm George M. Johnson, a bestselling author with the second most banned book in America. Now more than ever, we need to use our voices to fight back. And that's what we are doing on Fighting Words. We're not going to let anyone silence us. That's the reason why they're banning books like yours, George. That's the reason why they're trying to stop the teaching of Black history or queer history, any history that challenges the whitewash norm.
Starting point is 00:39:51 Or put us in a box. Black people have never, ever depended on the so-called mainstream to support us. That's why we are great. You played it last time, Jav,
Starting point is 00:41:30 but I got new questions this time, so you can still participate. I'm gonna answer them off camera. Huh? I'm just playing. No! I'm just fucking with you. I'm just playing.
Starting point is 00:41:38 Man! I promise you I'm not gonna get you in trouble. You can't, I ain't did nothing. Uh-huh. All right. The craziest thing, oh, this is it, good. The craziest thing that has happened to me on tour had to be the time when?
Starting point is 00:41:55 I took an edible and I had to go to the hospital. No! Trying to be grown, you know, I was grown, but I wasn't, my lungs weren't. Yeah. I wasn't a smoker, so know, I was grown but I wasn't my lungs weren't yeah I hadn't I wasn't a smoker. So yeah, it was just a bad night Nicki Minaj tour 2015 That was I was on that tour and uh, we was in Cali. We wasn't like Like snorts Cali like I don't know like but yeah Were you supposed to perform? No, I was done. I was going to watch, I had performed, thank God.
Starting point is 00:42:28 Cause I went on first on that tour actually, so I was done, I was going to watch Nicki and- Got stuck. Try to be lit. Music banging, you know, it's her set, so it's boom, boom, boom, boom, and that mixture mixed with that was like, oh. I just, I went to another world.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Are you done with edibles or have you? Oh yeah, I haven't had one since. No. Yeah, that was my first and, well my first trip, I guess, but that was my last one. Okay. We just got a lightened dosage, that's all I like. Yeah, I like flour. I don't do edibles that are like too heavy, too I need to control my highs and lows.
Starting point is 00:43:06 Okay. Okay. Just a recommendation, fuck with the mints. They're mad light. They're light with their edible. I'm not doing them. No, I'm right, I'm right. Tour stories?
Starting point is 00:43:20 It probably was like, I think that was the mood tour. was in I think was in Cali who was on Cali my boy DC We was performing like baby. That's a record I had earlier on it was the last show at a set and um I'm his last song that is set and we was up there I used to bring out of the whole FYB on the stage at the end We was performing a record and I tried to put my arm around them You know I'm saying and when I tried to put my arm around him. You know what I'm saying? And when I tried to put my arm around him,
Starting point is 00:43:47 he like kinda came back and the microphone went into my mouth and broke my teeth. You know what I'm saying? And my teeth was chipped. You know what I'm saying? I had a mouth full of blood. I remember just running off stage, running to the back, I had my cover man.
Starting point is 00:44:00 I remember just smiling. And I remember doing the meet and greet. And I was just having my mouth like this doing a meeting Greet and I would ask the fans like how long you been a fan if there was a day one fan I just show him my mouth cuz I know it wasn't changing that but if there was a new fan I'll be like, oh nah, like, you know, who you feel me? Keep it moving But then I went to the dentist the same night. So that was cool. I had BET the next day That was like the craziest to a star now that's insanity
Starting point is 00:44:24 Showing fans a bloody mouth is crazy. What? Oh my God. No, honestly. I mean, I tell you this all the time, but like I've watched this shit from the beginning. I remember I had a friend book you for her sweet 16. This is like, like when you were just on YouTube. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Like booked you in Maryland. You was there. I wasn't there. But then when I saw you was just on YouTube. Yeah. Like booked you in Maryland. You was there? I wasn't there. But then when I saw you was there, I was mad I wasn't there. I'm like, damn. Yeah. I really missed out, but mood tour, yeah. I, hey man, I've watched it all.
Starting point is 00:44:57 It's cool. Yeah, for sure. Okay, 10 years from now, I want my legacy to be just continuing on and on. Period. I would say that. Yeah. I would say the same.
Starting point is 00:45:13 Man, I knew you were about to do that. But in ten years, I want... Yeah, I was going to say in ten years, I want them to know like, okay, he is what he say he is. You know, in the next ten years, it should be like no more arguments. And what is what he say he is? You know, there's no explanation. They're going to already know what I'm talking about.
Starting point is 00:45:26 I'm only have to explain. Man, I get killed every time I say that shit. Anytime I chip in you, I get killed. I mean, that's how it goes. Sometimes I want you to root for the champion. All right, just know I'm getting lashes out here. That's how it goes. That's how it was when I first started working.
Starting point is 00:45:43 Nobody understood. I'm like, I don't give a shit. You know how it was when I first started working. Nobody understood. I'm like, she hot. You're not happy. You gonna tell stories about them, when it was like, well, this one was. I mean, they gonna be asking you about them. The hardest lesson I learned about fame is. I got fame kills tatted on me when I was young.
Starting point is 00:45:59 Like even before I got in the game. It's a drug, it's a disease. Yeah, if you let it be. Yeah, not for me, but you said what I learned about it. Fame is what you make it. Yeah. That's what I said. Like you could, fame is what you make it.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Like I prayed to be famous. And I prayed to like, good Lord, I pray I can't go in the stores. You know what I'm saying? Like I want- You did? Yeah, I prayed for that. Like, well, I want to be huge.
Starting point is 00:46:28 You hear me? Like- Kinda had that mentality. You know what I'm saying? So it's like, you're just famous what you're making, but you can't pray for that stuff and then let it take over who you are. Fame ain't no one like that's my answer.
Starting point is 00:46:39 Fame is cool. When you want it to be. I just like people for who they is, rather you're famous than that. That's just me. Me too though.. I just like people for who they is, rather you famous than not. That's just me. Right. Me too though.
Starting point is 00:46:47 But I think fame is a part of like, like if I'm cool, like days, we cool in real life. But then she's also famous. But her fame part is also cool too. I respect it. Like, you know, it's like everybody's famous nowadays. So it's like, that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:47:00 That is a fact. Like everybody, and that's what I always envisioned for the world too. Like coming from, from like everybody. I always envision for the world too, like coming from everybody. I want everybody to shine and be not famous, but just have money, like, you know, or just be of wealth and just, you know. Fame is one thing, because you can be famous
Starting point is 00:47:17 and broken and lost and all of these things. So it's people who going through so many things and they're famous and they wish not to be famous because sometimes you don't want to be seen when you're not your best or you're not on top of the world. Right. So it's a gift and a curse.
Starting point is 00:47:32 That's the answer. That was a great answer. Yeah. Thank you. I've been working on my little. No. You know I ain't did no interviews in years. I know, I'm so happy you're back outside.
Starting point is 00:47:42 I mean, you've been outside, but now you really outside. And we hope you stay outside. Yeah, we're going on the road. I mean, even without you, sir, I'm saying. I know for sure. She's not going to have a choice. It's going to be so it's going to be so. I also dropped an album in October. I got to make sure I checked it out, too.
Starting point is 00:48:01 OK. I mean, new music coming to you know, but. He's still pushing singles off of that joint too. But Shout out the cash that we did at ladies leave your man at home got the video coming soon. I'm screaming that but Yeah, man ladies. Leave your man at home. Yeah It's given Dallas Lee ladies at home to all of that She was setting a separate fucking friend on to with this clearly I could Blank is one movie I can watch with the sound off Quickly
Starting point is 00:48:38 Really? I know already, you know, I know it I feel like I can watch any movie any movie movie. I used to watch the TV on mute. But I can watch pretty much anything. But like your favorite, because you already know it. The Wood. Yeah, that's my favorite movie. That's a good one.
Starting point is 00:48:56 And yours is still Kirkland. Are you here for this Luther resurgence? I gotta go watch the Luther documentary. Heard it was really good. Yeah, I gotta watch it. Shout out to Luther. Outside of making music, blank is my favorite hobby. Outside of making music.
Starting point is 00:49:17 Right now spending time with my son. Aw, that's cute. Yeah. I love him. He's like lit. I think that would be my favorite hobby. He's like lit. Yeah. Mine is just probably like, I don't know, like, I love him. He's like lit. I think that would be my favorite hobby. He's like lit. Yeah Mine is just probably like, I don't know
Starting point is 00:49:31 writing music Preparing. I don't know, you said outside of that. My favorite album of all time is My favorite album of all time. My favorite album. I don't have one. Probably my mood album. That's probably my favorite album of all time. My mood project.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Wow, you feel like you haven't topped it yet? No, I mean, it's my favorite. Oh, okay, okay. You know what I'm saying? It's like, it's my favorite. I mean, all my projects are like faves, but that's like one of my personal favorites because of the time and the moment and just everything.
Starting point is 00:50:10 I just could remember that whole time. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, nah, mood was a great era. What? Yeah, mood too all the way. I had to pull up the track list. Yeah, set it off. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:50:21 Hot Girl. That was one of them. Hot Girl was my shit. What else is on here? You got, wasn't Bounce on there? Come Through. Bounce was crazy. B-E-D on there?
Starting point is 00:50:33 Yeah, B-E-D. That shit was like Thriller. You feel me? You gotta keep it a hunnid. This was a nasty EP, I can't front. That was a mix tape. Right, that's what I think, that was a tape. That shit was front. That was a mixtape. Right, that shit was free. I took B.D. off of there and put it on my debut, 42 Cent.
Starting point is 00:50:49 Most of the free shit be the hardest. It really do. I don't know what that was. Because we was trying to make it. Damn, I actually really fucked with Know You, too. Oh man, I freestyled that song. That's why a lot of people get on and they be like, why y'all sound changed? Because they're thinking too much.
Starting point is 00:51:04 But yeah, what is the difference you think? I mean, I still feel like I got that flavor. You know what I'm saying? It's like, the difference now is like, you know, when you make some broad statements like me, people find the reason to hate you. I make great music, you know what I'm saying? It's like, it's deeper than the music with me.
Starting point is 00:51:18 You know what I'm saying? People want to break my confidence. You know what I'm saying? I bet if I walked around with my head down, they'll try to pick me up. You know what I'm saying? But it's like, they not gonna catch me with my head down they'll fit they'll try to pick me up you know saying but it's like they're not gonna catch me with my head down so it's deeper than music with me you know I make great music I got that you know saying that was just when everybody loved me hey you know so it was errors in times to you know people's relating
Starting point is 00:51:39 to the music you know yeah connecting in that time I think they love me again right now though I go. I'm feeling real love Good. Yeah, I think I'm back. I love that. Yeah, I think I'm back. I can't stand this guy. Yo, not gonna lie on the thriller tip this t-shirt and panties was crazy. I'm like replaying that moment in time Yeah replaying that moment in time. Yeah. That's what I do. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:08 Come Through was good too. Come Through. R.P. Richon. Yes. Classic. And then that was followed by Since You Playing? Move was followed by Fuck a Friend Zone, wasn't it? Fuck a Friend Zone.
Starting point is 00:52:20 Yep. Then Since You Playing, then the rest. No, it was Since You Playing, then Fuck a Friend Zone. It was Since You Playing before Fuck a Friend Zone. Was it You Playing, then The Fist. No, it was Since You Playing, then F**k a Friend Zone. It was Since You Playing before F**k a Friend Zone. Was it? No, Since You Playing was after that. Oh, Since You Playing was after? Okay, yeah, it was. It was. I think I was 22. No. Where you get that title from? Since You Playing?
Starting point is 00:52:36 Yeah. Oh my God. I always wanted to know. Yeah, it was, it was real. Cause that was... It was just like... Nah, it was real. That was the story. It was just like Since You Playing. Like, you got it was real. It was just like since you playing.
Starting point is 00:52:46 It was like since you playing. I think we was supposed to do fucking friends on or something was going on. And Daze was really like on some bullshit. Oh my god, Daze used to be playing. Shows, everything. Don't make me go there. I don't mean to go there. Since you playing? But it was like, I'm gonna call this shit since you playing.
Starting point is 00:53:08 You feel me? Like, you feel me? I'm gonna just boss her all the way up. That's what I was thinking. Listen to the intro. You hear me? And the day she felt the pressure, it was like, you know what, I'm fine. I want to say that was after Fucker First Home, but if it wasn't, I know she was the drive force, for sure.
Starting point is 00:53:24 I love that, actually. Yeah. It's hilarious know she was the drive force for sure. I love that actually. Yeah. It's hilarious. It's like, yes, that's you playing. How does that make you feel? She already knew it, that's why she asked me. No, but I just thought about it again, like damn. You never know it all, you know,
Starting point is 00:53:36 you ask a question years later, you never know. You had a lot going on back then, so I didn't know, but that title's just funny, so it was like, whoop, inspired. Everybody loved that title, though. It is. I remember Thug had tweeted something, he was like, man, I wish since you playing with mine.
Starting point is 00:53:52 You feel me, man, I never forget that. It was just a big thing, since you playing. What is this little nigga talking about? I was only 22. You know what I'm saying, talking big. You know what I'm saying? I look back on that now, and be like, boy, you was 21, 22, just talking big.
Starting point is 00:54:08 I had to make your hand on the big. Yeah, like, no, I had bought that Rolly and thought I was a shit. You feel like, oh my goodness, I got a big face Rolly armed to shit. Man, I love it. I'm actually excited for y'all tour for real, just because even in this conversation,
Starting point is 00:54:23 it's just reminiscent on the music and just it really brings you back. Yeah. But it's like it's like love and it's exciting and it's not even like love as in like deep but just like the thrill of like it's just that time. And it's not just like for us it's for the people who do feel these feelings of love and the lyrics you know. Yeah. Coming through the back door, what's the other one? Yeah, that's another one. Everybody's calling, your favorite one, like everybody can relate, so. Every song.
Starting point is 00:54:51 This is for the people. I think this one, well, we never had a chance for all the other stuff to go platinum, but I expect for this to go platinum fast. I expect for it to just be, I expect this to be a moment in time that's unforgettable, you know what I'm saying? For us, for the fans, for everybody, I feel like this gonna be like unforgettable.
Starting point is 00:55:09 Yeah, I feel like, say more. I'm excited. I feel like we know how music should sound. Like we come from an era, we's 90s baby, so more older than him, but we know what they wanna hear. I think we still embody that he does even with the R&B you know I do all kind of music too but I think for the R&B yeah that's the feel of it. That classic modern R&B sound like what's going on right now?
Starting point is 00:55:37 Yeah like the songs you'll find on the countdown 106 and part which is why we did the favorite one video. It was a bow-wow and it gave that little feel, but just that vibe, that nostalgic, you know? But I can't wait for the tour. We got more videos dropping? Yes, back door. Wait, wait, y'all did the shush at the same time. What is going on? Are y'all working on things outside of music?
Starting point is 00:56:00 No, I mean, we've just been thinking. It's been stuff like, we come up with so many ideas when we you know creating yeah that sometimes when they actually when we actually see it come to life it'd be like oh shit hold on you saw that that shit can actually be real. Learning the key things sacred and just you know cook yeah okay okay Alright, I'm gonna let y'all cook I I'm super excited. I'm a fan of both of you and Yeah, I'm glad you guys are doing this for real. You already know it's gonna be up. It's gonna be fun too What is the tour gonna look like actually I've seen I've actually seen both of y'all live
Starting point is 00:56:39 Yeah, but together I'm like we don't make it dope. You I'm sayin'? We actually haven't started rehearsing or nothin' like that, but, um... You know, we plan to make it dope. Something for the fans to see. Something memorable. Definitely. I know you be dancin'. Is it given we dancin' together? Is it given, like... I'm not dancin'.
Starting point is 00:56:58 No, I'm not dancin'. I'ma hit some moves, but I'ma let him take... I love how he just goes all out with the performance. Like I don't do as much as he does on stage. But she gonna do something, trust me. Oh yeah, I gotta show out, I gotta make it look good. Yeah. It's gonna be turnt.
Starting point is 00:57:16 It's gonna be good. Like trust, it's gonna be lit. We performed together before, when I was on that move, so I remember I brought Deja out and we had a couple shows together before but nothing never like this consistent you know and this where it's just like oh it's just us together you know it's gonna be like it's gonna be dope like if I was if I was a fan I would definitely be coming you know I'm saying I would be
Starting point is 00:57:37 like somewhere with a good ass seat too you know even if I got to stand up I fuck around I fuck around before a row don't want to see us up close. You know what I'm saying? But then I'd fuck around, go to another show where I sit up top and be chilling. Oh, you you want to buy tickets to all the shows? I would come to a couple shows for a couple of different experiences. Like, if I was a fan, I would definitely come to the Atlanta show
Starting point is 00:57:59 because I'm from Atlanta. I will come to the Detroit show because she's from Detroit. You know, I would come to New York. You know, I would come to the L.A. show. You think if I was a fan, I would come to. I would actually probably fuck around, come to the Detroit show, because she's from Detroit. You know, I would come to New York. You know, I would come to the LA show, you feel me, if I was a fan. I would come to, I would actually probably fuck around coming to every show.
Starting point is 00:58:11 Especially if I had that cake on me, you know what I'm saying? I would just cool me, you feel me? I would just fuck around, just be traveling, following the bus, all that shit. Mine is in the bus. Yo, this is cute.
