Starting point is 00:02:25 Good morning, USA! Hey, Charlamagne Tha God. Damn, Charlamagne ain't there. Thought we had Charlamagne. What up, Yeezy? Hey, what's up, DJ Envy? How's everything? Congratulations on Yee Day. Heard it was an amazing event, and congratulations on opening your coffee spot. Give a round of applause and drop a bomb for Yee. Yeah, hello.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Thank you, thank you. It's been a crazy weekend for me. Friday, we just had a little VIP, like a showing from my coffee shop, but it's not going to be open until later on in September for real. OK. And then I had Angela U Day on Saturday and now I'm in Florida. Well, congratulations to everything. I was I was on vacation last week. I was I took the family to Mexico before school started. So last Friday we flew out to Mexico. I had to fly back for a couple of days because Logan couldn't go because Logan plays football, plays varsity football, so he couldn't miss it. So the whole family went except for Logan.
Starting point is 00:03:14 So I came back for his game. And then I went back to Mexico to pick everybody up. All right, so we packed up. We got ready to go on Saturday to come back. My flight was at 9.30 a.m. because I had to go to Detroit to host the station's concert. My family was leaving at 12.30 to come back home. And all the flights got canceled afternoon. All the flights got canceled afternoon.
Starting point is 00:03:40 So they are stuck in Mexico. I made it out and they are still stuck because of the hurricane. Wow. Yeah, we're going stuck because of the hurricane. Wow. Yeah, we're going to talk about the hurricane in front page news. I mean, really devastating. I'm watching everything happening in real time. I know people who are out there in New Orleans and in Louisiana in general. So we just want to make sure that we are sending our prayers and giving you guys information on what's happening in Louisiana.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Yeah, it's crazy all over the place. They said that the weather was so strong. they said the power went out once or twice uh they said trees are blowing they said it's very very crazy so luckily the family's together um and i should be seeing them i guess either tonight uh well tomorrow morning two three four in the morning they'll they'll get a chance to fly out if the weather uh gets a little better but yeah they cancel every flight after 12. I was on, I think, the 9.30 flight. So I made it out and they didn't. So they'll be back home tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:04:30 But let's get the show cracking. Who's joining us this morning? Allison Hines? Allison Hines, Soca Queen. Yeah, Soca Queen. She'll be joining us. She performed at U-Day, correct? Yeah, she actually closed out U-Day.
Starting point is 00:04:42 She's a Soca legend. So it was really amazing to have her she had it crazy and lit in there all right and i want to shout out to everybody out in detroit too i had an amazing time shout to michael saunders shout to uh bushman the concert was great it was a cmg takeover so yo gadi money bag yo i was hosted and i brought out ice where on the stage just to uh for the cities and after that, we were playing in the car show. So I'm excited about that. Let's get the show cracking.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Front page news. I'm sure we're going to be talking about this hurricane, right? Yes, Hurricane Ida. All right. We'll do that when we come back. It's the Breakfast Club. Good morning. It's Club.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Let's get in some front page news. Now, Charlemagne is here, kind of. Bring it down a little bit, please, to the beat. Yeah, he's here, kind of. He's at the crib. He's trying to broadcast, but we're having technical difficulties. We should be figuring it out in the next two, three minutes. So Charlamagne is here, though.
Starting point is 00:05:30 He's on time. But let's get in some front page news. Now, Jake Paul took on Tyrone Woodley. Did you see the fight, E? I saw the highlights from it. Well, they said Jake Paul won. I didn't see it. My son is heavy into these YouTube fights.
Starting point is 00:05:43 It was a split decision, yeah. He's heavy into it. My son is heavy into these U2 fights. It was a split decision, yeah. He's heavy into it. They had a little fight party at the crib. I went to sleep. And when I woke up this morning, he told me that Jake Paul won. Yeah, people were very shocked and disappointed. Yeah. But it could potentially be a rematch, just FYI.
Starting point is 00:05:58 And they had a whole discussion about that, too, about whether or not a rematch can happen. And I think we have that audio i feel like if that was the second biggest pay-per-view the round two gonna be bigger than that i feel like i won the fight i feel like jake's a great opponent i didn't expect him to go down man my coach has worked that that's why i came in great shape because i knew he can take a punch but the fact that one judge gave me two rounds is laughable no disrespect but the fury fight me and jake need to run that back.
Starting point is 00:06:26 Does that interest you, Jake? Of course you want the payday. You had... It's a fight. I don't want the payday. I want a fight. You had your opportunity. You had your opportunity. So you don't want to fight me again? If you get the tattoo, I love Jake Paul. Let's run it back. Bet. Oh, boy. So you're going to get a tattoo that says, I love Jake Paul?
Starting point is 00:06:41 I mean... That'll do anything for money now, huh? Alright, and Hurricane Ida made landfall do anything for money now. All right. And hurricane Ida made landfall on the coast of Louisiana. This happened Sunday. It came as a powerful category four hurricane, but has been downgraded to a tropical storm early today. They said it's a slow movement of a storm and the sustained power and direction that are of ongoing concern. So even though it has slowed considerably,
Starting point is 00:07:05 it does continue to draw energy from its own storm surge, as well as the moisture. The combination is hitting New Orleans. There's heavy rains, there's strong winds, overpowering some levees and leaving more than 1 million people without power throughout Louisiana. They said one person was killed. A falling tree killed him.
Starting point is 00:07:22 And authorities said that 200 people are in imminent danger after a levy breach so we'll keep you guys updated yeah and this is the anniversary of katrina correct yeah 16 years since hurricane katrina so all flights have been canceled at the airport there a little over uh like i said 1 million homes and businesses without power across the state yeah they were saying that uh they don't know necessarily how many people have passed yet because they don't want to go out rescuing people in the dark. So they said they're going to start the rescue in the morning. So they're telling people if you're home and you can hear
Starting point is 00:07:53 or whatever it may be, they're saying stay in the house. Don't go looking around the neighborhood. Let the first responders go and make sure things are safe, that the power lines are not active. Be safe as possible. They're saying a lot of people are on the second floors of their homes right now because the first floors are all occupied by water. So they're saying if you can just be safe, do not go outside if you don't have to.
Starting point is 00:08:14 And let the responders do what they got to do first. And it's tough because you see a lot of people saying, oh, you have to evacuate. Well, why didn't certain people evacuate? Well, some people don't have the means to be able to do that. They don't have any place to go. So they'll try to ride the storm out. So again, our prayers are with everybody that is in Louisiana that is dealing with this right now.
Starting point is 00:08:34 Absolutely. All right. And the NBA is requiring all referees to be vaccinated now. And if you don't get vaccinated, you will be ineligible to work games. So they've announced that agreement that they've made. And the only people now that don't have to be vaccinated are basically the players that it's not mandated for. So anybody that's a coach and the front office staff, medical staff,
Starting point is 00:08:56 security team, communication staff, and scorers, all of them have to be vaccinated. And some teams are requiring that fans provide proof of vaccination to enter their arena. So it's only the players right now. Alright, well that is front page news. Now get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you're upset, you need
Starting point is 00:09:16 to vent, call us up right now. Maybe you had a great weekend. You feel blessed. You want to spread some positivity or maybe your weekend was horrible. Alright, let us know. Maybe you need some sleep. Maybe you need some sleep. Maybe you need some sleep. Sounds like you, huh? Candide.
Starting point is 00:09:28 800-585-1051. Get it off your chest. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Let's go. This is your time to get it off your chest. Whether you're mad or blessed.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Say it with your chest. We want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club. So if you got something on your mind, let it out. Hello, who's this? Tamara. Hey, Tamara. Good morning. Good morning. How are you guys doing?
Starting point is 00:09:51 How are you doing? I know you're calling from Louisiana. What's going on? I'm okay. The wind is kind of high. I'm actually headed to work. I'm a nurse, so I have to go. But it's not too bad.
Starting point is 00:10:03 The wind is real high. Other than that a lot of trees a lot of power lines down a lot of people out of power but not too bad all right i've been seeing videos of of roofs flying off and people have been saying that water's building in their house but but for on your side it hasn't been as bad yeah i'm on actually like the bedroo side so we haven't got the worst like i've seen um videos of like um other areas coma new orleans tibetan things like that i know a few people out that way yeah pretty bad rules falling off flying off not falling but flying yeah yeah well you'll be bad out that way you'll be safe out there all right thanks for checking in with us for the players there Alright Thanks for checking in with us
Starting point is 00:10:45 Thank you guys for the players And thank you for checking in Thank you Alright thank you Hello who's this Yo what's the word Envy is mellow How you feeling
Starting point is 00:10:53 Mellow what's up What's poppin Yo man First off I just want to drop One of the clues On for Angela Yee Angela Yee
Starting point is 00:11:00 That was amazing Yo And first off Let's drop one of the clues On for you too Cause you working really hard. Like, you feel me? Coachella about to be lit in Detroit.
Starting point is 00:11:08 I'm definitely slotted. Respect for me. I appreciate that. Yeah, we just try to set up things that families can come, enjoy, and have a good time. I'm kind of upset I couldn't make it to Ye Day because I was on vacation, but next one, I'm definitely there. Yeah, Mello actually drove out from Detroit, and I actually brought him and Trav on stage. Really? Yeah. Yeah, Mello actually, Mello drove out from Detroit and I actually brought him and Trav on stage. Really?
Starting point is 00:11:27 Yeah. Yeah, full fact, I'm actually driving back to Detroit right now. Like, I'm outside. Okay. Well, be safe on your way down there, brother.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Definitely, man. Spending positive vibes to everybody listening, man. All right. Mello is a trooper. Let me tell you, I appreciate him so much. He comes to the private
Starting point is 00:11:43 label store in Detroit, buys hair for his girl. He brought it to the store before. He drove all the way from Detroit just to come out to Angela Yee Day. Shout out to Mello. Hello, who's this? This is Mark. Mark, what up? Get it off your chest. Hey, man. I just want to get
Starting point is 00:11:58 off my chest. My neighbor's been loud all week, and I'm talking about loud. Get out loud. I stay in Atlanta, and when I say these people been yelling out the window at four o'clock in the morning, it's outrageous. Man, what they've been doing, what they've been yelling, they've been having sex or they just been just screaming? Man, it's like crazy. Like they get drunk and then they start yelling about life, all types of other ghetto stuff. You know what I'm saying? It really gets rowdy.
Starting point is 00:12:25 That's a tough one because you don't want to call the police because you don't want the police to go over there and do something to them. But you kind of want them to shut up. So you stuck. Envy. I paid $1,000 a month for them to be yelling out this window. It's too much. Yeah, you might got to do something.
Starting point is 00:12:38 I don't know. Did you talk to them about it? Yeah, but they're not trying to hear that. That's not covered in the least to people. They ain't trying to hear that. What's not covered in the least to people. They ain't trying to hear that. What you do is, what time they go to sleep, what time they start yelling and you just start playing your music at that time loud as hell?
Starting point is 00:12:52 They don't care. They crack heads. They have that on their face. Oh, okay. Damn. Yeah, there's nothing you can really do about it. Well, maybe you need to move. If your neighbors are crack heads, maybe it's time to move, brother.
Starting point is 00:13:03 I mean, hey, I don't know if they crackheads, but that's why I'm calling them. They crack a don. I got you. They crackheads, crackheads, not crackheads. They crack a don heads. You feel me? All right. Thank you, brother.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Be safe, man. Hey, appreciate y'all. Y'all too. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051. If you need to vent, call us up right now. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:13:27 The Breakfast Club. Wake up, wake up. Wake your ass up. This is your time to get it off your chest. Whether you're mad or blessed, we want to hear from you on The Breakfast Club. Hello, who's this? This is Kim. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Hey, Kim, get it off your chest. Okay, I'm calling because I work in retail, right? And I have a manager that is the same level as me, but he's very racist. He sends me a lot of racist stuff to my phone all the time. What? So I'm trying to figure out a way to report him. And what does he say? He sent me, the last thing he sent me was him on a TikTok video with Aunt Jemima
Starting point is 00:14:05 and the Quaker Oats guy. So it's like he sends me a lot of racist stuff. He doesn't like the president. He doesn't like black people. But I work side by side with this guy every day and it's starting to make me angry in a way. So I'm trying to figure out a way to tell him, but not go off at
Starting point is 00:14:21 work. No, you shouldn't have to tell him. You should take it to your superior and tell him that this bothers you and you feel a way about it. And you have all the evidence right there on your phone. Yes, ma'am. I have everything that he sent me within the last two weeks and they've all been racist. Yeah, I would give it to my superior
Starting point is 00:14:38 and tell him I feel uncomfortable with this. I mean, yeah, I get it, but I just don't want to go off at work in front of my associates and everything because I'm a manager. Now, hold on a second. Hold on a second. Don't even worry about that right now. Because also, as a manager, it is your responsibility to have a safe environment for everybody, including yourself.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Yes, ma'am. I mean, I'm trying. Like, my breast cancer came back, so I'm trying to be positive. But when you got somebody that you work with on a daily basis and they're racist, it's starting to affect me. You know what I mean? Some people deserve for you to go off on them. Absolutely. So you don't have to control yourself, okay?
Starting point is 00:15:14 And, you know, you can always be doing that in a manner that is, you don't have to, like, get crazy with it. But I would say, I don't even know how you can handle that and deal with it. But you definitely need to. Like, you definitely need to say something you don't have to worry about how people look at you because they should be looking at him like he's the one that has an issue not you right and it seemed like everybody that's been uh black like I am they they have like he's already did something to like make them leave the store or just want to quit and don't want to work for our company anymore.
Starting point is 00:15:46 And that's not our belief. But it's just getting to the point that it just gets overwhelming. Yeah, you should definitely go to Human Resources. You should go to Human Resources today, file a complaint saying he's harassing you, he's sending you racist things. And I'm sure they will take care of it because if they don't take care of it, you will have a lawsuit out the ass. And you guys should all come together, everybody that's been complaining that he's done things too and put it all together. Yes, ma'am. It's not just me.
Starting point is 00:16:10 It's just like everybody can see it. But it's like, okay, we at work. So if other associates are like doing TikTok videos and he's sitting in his office doing TikTok videos about black people, it's just getting out of control. Yeah, you got to go to Human Resources today and call us back and let us know when you go. You should go today, okay? I sure will. I thank you guys and I love you guys. I listen to you every morning on my way to work.
Starting point is 00:16:33 Thank you so much. You guys are great. Thank you. You're welcome. Good luck with everything. Hello, who's this? Hey, this is Stacia. Hey, Stacia. Good morning. Get it off your chest. I just want to call in. We are in good spirits. Me and my husband just got married your chest. I just want to call in. We are in good spirits. Me and my husband just got married on Saturday. We're headed to Raleigh.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Nice. Yes. Where you going? We are headed to Cancun. Okay. Oh, congrats. That's exciting. We're headed to the airport now.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Thank you. I will say this. Be careful when you drink. Don't drink the water Make sure all the water is bottled And make sure if you use ice That the ice is filtered Because if not you're going to have
Starting point is 00:17:12 You're going to have muddy waters all week long Oh goodness thank you so much Have a good one enjoy your honeymoon Y'all too thank you We ain't going on no honeymoon but alright you have a good one She said have a good one too. That's what she meant. Oh, okay. All right. Get it off your chest. 800-585-1051.
Starting point is 00:17:29 If you need to vent, you can hit us up. Now we got rumors on the way, Yee. Yes, and this music mogul says he had a very rough week and he said he was battling a little bit of depression. All right. We'll get into that next. Keep it locked. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Is your country falling apart?
Starting point is 00:17:47 Feeling tired? Depressed? A little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this.
Starting point is 00:17:57 It's surprisingly easy. There's 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Laudonia. I it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Kaperburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition.
Starting point is 00:18:13 The Waikana tribe own country. My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets. We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan
Starting point is 00:18:40 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. That's what my podcast Post Run High is all about. It's a chance to sit down with my guests and dive even deeper into their stories, their journeys, and the thoughts that arise once we've hit the pavement together. You know that rush of endorphins you feel after a great workout? Well, that's when the real magic happens. So if you love hearing real, inspiring stories from the people you know, follow, and admire, join me every week for Post Run High. It's where we take the conversation beyond the run and get into the heart of it all. It's lighthearted, pretty crazy, and very fun. Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:19:51 As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you. Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself, and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, it was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love.
Starting point is 00:20:28 I forgive myself. It's okay. Like, grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best. And you're gonna figure out the rhythm of this thing. Alicia Keys, like you've never heard her before. Listen to On Purpose with Jay Shetty
Starting point is 00:20:41 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Everybody, it's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God, we are The Breakfast Club. Charlamagne, you with us yet? Can you finally hear me? Am I here? Am I checked in for the week? Yes, you're finally here. Okay. Yes, you are here. Welcome back.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Welcome back. Oh, yes, ma'am. Thank you for having me. All right, let's get to the rumors. Let's talk Diddy. She's spilling the tea. This is the Rumor Report with Angela Yee on The Breakfast Club. Well, Diddy was very honest over the weekend about struggling with depression and how he managed to get himself out of it. This isn't the first time that he's talked about his struggles with depression.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Here's what he had to say. It is Friday, and I can't lie, I had a rough week. I went into a dark state, which is a state of depression. How could you be depressed when you've got so much? I don't know how that works, baby. You know what I'm saying? But I just kept fighting. I started asking God to help me yeah so i just kept praying to god god help me god help me god help me just kept breathing
Starting point is 00:21:52 you gotta fight your way out and i did that's the glory of god i let god and i let go he also talked about this the positive sides of the week you didn't get that part where he talked about this was a great weekend after the weekend god God was with him. He was grateful that his daughters walked into Dolce & Gabbana's show. He said, then all of a sudden, he said his mom was there. And then he said it started raining. And then he said a rainbow came. And he felt like that was Kim saying, you know, I continue to watch. Yeah, he also said that, too.
Starting point is 00:22:19 I mean, the thing with Diddy is the brother's dealing with a lot of grief. I don't care how much money you have. Grief is grief. That emotion hits different regardless, and it comes in waves. So, yeah, man, take care of yourself, everybody out there. And I'm sending healing energy to all the kings and queens dealing with some grief this morning. Right. It's so true, too.
Starting point is 00:22:37 Some people look at you and think like, oh, you have all this money. You have all this going on. And they act like, you know know you don't deal with things like that and so you can't even explain because none of that money no matter how much money you got you can't bring back the person that you're missing so all right now nini leaks is also talking about what she's going through at home now over the weekend she was captured on camera at her lounge and she was on the microphone and she was captured on camera at her lounge, and she was on the microphone, and she was telling the club attendees that, you know, she needs some extra love right now.
Starting point is 00:23:12 Both she and her son are not in the best spirits. Apparently, what happened is somebody, I guess, that was at the lounge was celebrating their birthday, and someone must have asked for a birthday shout-out. And then somewhere along the way, it got out that Nene was being rude. I don't know what exactly happened, but here is what that video sounded like. When you see me, you see my son give us a lot of love, okay? My husband is transitioning to the other side. So when you stepped up to me and told me I was rude, I really was upset by that. Because sometimes you don't know what people are dealing with and what people are going through.
Starting point is 00:23:45 So she said her husband is transitioning to the other side. So when you see them, give them a lot of love. And like she said, when you see some people, you don't know what they're going through at home. So, yes, we are sending our prayers. So you got to see somebody comes to your restaurant to celebrate a birthday. Say, hey, can I get a birthday shout out? You know, they don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:03 They just ask for a shout out. You know what I mean? Yeah. I mean, you you know it's a hard thing to say though because if you pay somebody pay for your food you say hey can I get a birthday shout out you know you don't know what somebody's going through but you would expect it to be okay because I paid for the table I paid for the food I paid for the drinks hey give me a birthday shout out yeah you just come in to get your service you don't you don't know that you know yeah she's she's going through something and if that's the case she might have to take a day off or two days off because that is your your business you want to make sure your business is ran the right way and that people come there and
Starting point is 00:24:33 have a great time regardless of what you're going through in your life because this is your business right and the person who actually recorded the video said that they never said that she was rude and that they are sending prayers uh to her fam to her and her family as well same sending healing energy to nini leaks in her absolutely i'm definitely doing the same all right now are you guys ready for atl2 there was an unconfirmed trailer for the sequel the homecoming that was leaked on instagram and then the original director chris rober Robinson, did confirm that the sequel is happening. He did a repost and he said, we did it again. So what do you guys
Starting point is 00:25:10 think? Are y'all excited to see ATL 2? I thought the whole point of ATL was the fact that they were supposed to be young growing up in Atlanta. You know what I mean? So it's going to be them as adults, I'm sure. Where their lives went. New cast members.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Yeah, I mean, I guess we'll see. No, no, it's the same old cast members. I saw the trailer. Yeah, they're the same cast members in the trailer, but maybe it's like, you know, kids involved. Who knows? I don't know. Possibly.
Starting point is 00:25:36 All right, Eddie Murphy, by the way, is going to be starring in a comedy that's directed by Kenya Barris. And also Jonah Hill will be co-starring as well so uh kenya barris is also a producer and so is uh jonah hill what do y'all think about that that sounds very interesting that's an interesting combination well and you know kenya barris also worked with um with eddie murphy on coming to america so could be interesting to see the two. The sequel, right? Yeah, the number two, you know, Coming to America 2. I forget y'all can't see that too when I say it.
Starting point is 00:26:11 But yes, so that comedy is going to be produced by both Jonah Hill and Kenya Barris' production companies. But it's the directorial debut for Kenya Barris. So congratulations to him. That's a big one to come out the gate with. All right. Well, I'm Angela Ye Yee and that is your rumor report. Alright, now we got front page news next. What are we talking about?
Starting point is 00:26:30 Yes, and we'll be talking about two high profile ISIS targets that were killed in a U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan. Alright, we'll get into that next. Keep it locked. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Your mornings will never be the same. It's Angela Yee.

The Mattress Firm Sleep Experts will match you to the perfect mattress and help you un-junk your sleep. Visit MattressFirm.com or a Mattress Firm store today. Let's get in some front page news. Where we starting, Yee? All right. Well, let's start with ISIS-K.
Starting point is 00:27:07 They claim responsibility for the attack that involved a suicide bomber that detonated an explosive belt at the airport in Afghanistan at Kabul that killed 13 U.S. service members and more than 110 Afghans. More than 100 were wounded in those blasts. Well, two high profile Islamic State group targets were killed from ISIS-K and one of them was wounded when U.S. military forces conducted a drone strike on Friday in Afghanistan. According to Army Major General William Hank Taylor, he said, we know of zero civilian casualties without specifying any future plans. I will say that we will continue to have the ability to defend ourselves and to leverage over the horizon capability to conduct counterterrorism operations as needed. Yikes. So, as you know, Biden vowed in a speech on Thursday, the U.S. will respond to attacks with force.
Starting point is 00:27:55 He had said to those who carried out this attack, as well as anyone who wishes America harm, know this. We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay. And he did repeat that vow on Saturday. He said this strike was not the last. We will continue to hunt down any person involved in that heinous attack and make them pay. Whenever anyone seeks to harm the U.S. or attack our troops, we will respond. So we're about to end the war. I don't think it's going to be a war but I mean you know you still can't bring back
Starting point is 00:28:25 those 13 you know US soldiers that are gone but when things like that happen retaliation is a must right then they're going to retaliate then we're going to retaliate then they're going to retaliate then we're going to retaliate all on the what year is this the 20th anniversary of 9-11 this year yikes
Starting point is 00:28:41 yeah oh yeah that is coming up in two weeks two weeks yep all right all right and um you know speaking of anniversaries it is the 16th anniversary of hurricane katrina it was yesterday and that's when hurricane ida actually slammed louisiana right now they said uh so far they know of one casualty it was a man a man who was killed by a tree that fell. And in addition to that, here is Joe Biden discussing what they did for this state of emergency. We've already pre-positioned resources that we know are going to be needed. This includes 2.5 million meals, 3 million liters of water. We've got generators in place and we're in close touch
Starting point is 00:29:25 with the power providers to get and restore power as soon as possible. We've got 13 urban search and rescue teams, more than 100 ambulances and emergency medical teams have been activated. And we're working with the Red Cross and local partners to open dozens and dozens of shelters with cots and blankets and meals to support those we need to evacuate. Yeah, they were just saying on the news that all the power is out in Louisiana right now. In New Orleans. In New Orleans, I mean, yeah, all the power is out. And they're saying that if you're stuck in the house, they said, don't leave the house. Let the first responders get out there first and make sure things are safe. They're saying that nobody's out right now doing
Starting point is 00:30:03 it. They're going to wait till it gets a little light because it's too dark as of right now. So they're saying just hold ground for a little bit and they're sending the troops out and people out to help. I wonder how hectic the hospitals are in New Orleans right now, especially because you got people probably in there with COVID and other things and now the hurricane.
Starting point is 00:30:20 I wonder how it is for the hospitals out there. Well, right now the hurricane has weakened from a Category 4 to a Category 1 storm. But they did say that they expect tornadoes today from southeast Louisiana to the western Florida panhandles. And there's more than one million homes and businesses without power. So the city's sewer and water board also said the power loss could affect a very significant number of its 84 sewer pumping systems. They said they had obtained backup generators for some, but that in order to prevent sewage backups, they've asked residents to limit water usage at home. That decreases the amount of wastewater that has to be removed. But they did say
Starting point is 00:30:59 the water is safe to drink from the city right now. But this is a devastating, life-threatening storm. So, again, our prayers to everybody in Louisiana who's going through it right now. Definitely. All right. Well, that is your front page news. All right. Thank you, Miss Yee. Hey, did y'all talk about the fight last night?
Starting point is 00:31:19 Yeah, we spoke about it first. Oh, yeah, we did. Okay, yeah. What'd you think? I just want to say it's as simple as this. When Jake Paul gets in the ring with a real boxer any boxer he's losing and probably losing really bad because tyrone woodley is not a boxer he's an mma fighter with some striking ability but he put the paws on jake paul last night okay jay paul has yet to fight a real boxer you said he what
Starting point is 00:31:43 oh you didn't see the fight did you no i didn't see what won. Oh, you didn't see the fight, did you? No, I didn't see the fight. You didn't see when Tyrone Woodley's damn near made Jake Paul almost fall through the ropes. I did see that one shot. Okay. But who won the fight at the end? I mean, it was a split decision. But, I mean, if Tyrone Woodley would have been more aggressive, he would have won that fight easily.
Starting point is 00:32:01 But Jake Paul has never fought a real boxer. He's fought a YouTube star, NBA player, and two MMA fighters. The day he ever fights a real boxer, which he shouldn't, he's going to get really hurt. Yeah, I don't think he should. Depending on who the boxer is. No. No, no.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Not any boxer. Any boxer with some real boxing talent and skill will beat Jake Paul. Okay, there you go. All right. All right. Now when we come back, Soka Queen Allison Hines will be joining us. She Okay, there you go. All right. All right. Now, when we come back, Soca Queen Allison Hines will be joining us.
Starting point is 00:32:27 She performed at Ye Day over the weekend, and we're going to kick it with her when we come back. All right? So don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 00:32:33 The Breakfast Club. Hey, guys. I'm Kate Max. You might know me from my popular online series, The Running Interview Show, where I run with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, and more. After those runs, the conversations keep going. That's what

Listen to Post Run High on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:33:37 Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired, depressed, a little bit revolutionary? Consider this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There are 55 gallons of water for 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Ladonia.
Starting point is 00:33:58 I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. The Waikana tried my country. My forefathers did that themselves. What could go wrong? No country willingly gives up their territory. I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warheads. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:34:18 What is that? Bullets. Bullet holes. We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast. That's Escape from Z-A-Q-istan on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. As a kid, I really do remember having these dreams and visions, but you just don't know what is going to come for you.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves. For self-preservation and protection, it was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. You're trying your best and you're gonna figure
Starting point is 00:35:25 out the rhythm of this thing alicia keys like you've never heard her before listen to on purpose with jay shetty on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts yep it's the world's most dangerous morning show the breakfast club charlemagne the god angela yee we got a special guest in the building. Tell them who we got, Yeezus. Allison Hines, the queen of soca. What's up? I'm good. I'm good.
Starting point is 00:35:49 I'm awake. Absolutely. We're working really hard on getting Charlemagne to appreciate dancehall, soca, and reggae. I heard. Why does it think? I heard. It's not that serious. I do appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:36:03 I do appreciate it. I said one time, I don't actually love it. I do appreciate it I do appreciate it I just never I said one time Right I don't actually love it Right That's fine People go crazy
Starting point is 00:36:11 No but that's fine That's fine You can't like everything You know what I mean I don't You know I don't automatically expect First of all
Starting point is 00:36:19 For people to know Soca music Because It's You know It's still very niche But the people that know it know it and love it yeah i don't know nothing about soca i thought we were talking about reggae dance so i
Starting point is 00:36:31 didn't even know this is something else so tell them about soca music so you can explain the difference so okay so how can i explain soca um and you you probably have heard some of my songs even roll it gal for sure but yeah you roll it gal for sure um roll roll it gal okay okay absolutely absolutely absolutely yeah that's my track soca music is actually it's really happy it's very high energy great melodies and it's very interactive so it's all the waving is the singing is you, move from the left to the right, the back, the front. You can't be sad listening to Soca. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:10 And if you were sad and you listened to Soca music, that's it. It'll make you happy. Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. So the song in the pool was the Soca song? No, no, no. I was talking about, because I was trying to explain.
Starting point is 00:37:21 When we all were in Jamaica for a breakfast club trip because he made that sound so crazy. The song in the pool. No, but we did go to Jamaica on a trip for the breakfast club. Okay. And this was like way earlier when we first started
Starting point is 00:37:34 and they would not stop playing Broke It Down and I was saying I like the Alice in Hines Soca mix. The remix. Yes, I did a remix to that song. So I did the Soca remix
Starting point is 00:37:43 to Vegas' Yeah, Broke, Broke, Broke, Broke, Broke, Broke, Broke It Down. Yeah. And that was my favorite version.
Starting point is 00:37:48 So I was trying to get him to understand like, okay, remember when we was in... Okay. Yeah. Okay. So is there a difference
Starting point is 00:37:54 between Soca and Reggae? Yes, there is. Okay. Reggae is... Reggae and dancehall. There's a difference in... Yeah. So Reggae is more,
Starting point is 00:38:04 I guess, along the lines of what Buju And Taurus Riley And Barris Hammond Would do That kind of
Starting point is 00:38:12 Bob Marley Yes of course Bob Dancehall would be Along the lines of Mr. Vegas And you know More
Starting point is 00:38:19 It's edgy And then Soca music We borrow from each other Because That's how music is But Soca music. We borrow from each other because that's how music is. But Soca is definitive in terms of it's just very, as I said, it's very happy. It's very high energy.
Starting point is 00:38:33 It's like carnival. Yeah. How did you even get into it? So you're from the UK, but then you moved to Barbados? Yes. So I'm British born and then moved to Barbados because my dad was Bajan. He's passed away since. My mom is.
Starting point is 00:38:48 My parents split up and my mom took me to Barbados. And I used to go to Barbados on vacation and I fell in love with the island from like the first time. So then, unfortunately, my parents split, but I was happy to be in Barbados. I moved there when I was like 10, 11. So I was in England before that. Was that a culture shock for you? my parents split but i was happy to be in barbados i moved there when i was like 10 11 okay so i was in england before that was that a culture shock for you it was it was because you know there are a lot of bugs and there's a lot of different things that are very different so the weather too i'm sure well come on so i i actually got exposed to soca and reggae and Caribbean music on the whole from moving to Barbados.
Starting point is 00:39:27 Wow. Because I didn't really, even though I had West Indian parents, I was very much a British kid. I was into British pop and rock. I was into Queen and police and all of that. So how has the pandemic been for you during this time, not being able to travel and perform? It has been challenging. I will not lie. I, like most artists, I went from
Starting point is 00:39:52 having all of these bookings to everything just went poof. And I had to make conscious decisions. One of them was in terms of my training and so on. I was like, I am not coming out of lockdown i'm not doing it not so that was i was i was like i'm not what about what about your mental health
Starting point is 00:40:16 all of that was key to my mental health because there were times and i will not lie there was times when i would feel depressed and if you go I didn't want what I say go down the rabbit hole because if you keep going into that you just keep going and go deeper and deeper and deeper and I will be like all right Allison you gotta figure out a way to be able to you know to get and having family too having having a family there definitely helps a lot. All right, we have more with the Soca Queen, Alison Hines. When we come back, don't move. It's The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:40:50 Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Now, we're still kicking it with Soca Queen, Alison Hines. Yee. When did you meet your husband? We met, how long ago we met?
Starting point is 00:41:04 It was a while. In the 90s. I feel like your husband we met how long ago we met it was a while i feel like your mind is saying too long ago too long ago it was um it was would have been the late 90s i would have met him how did he approach you um we met at a wedding wow yeah the irony the irony of it right um the irony oh my gosh this accent he's got i can't no i hear it i love it though i hear it he's trying i heard it i heard it i heard it i heard it the the the accent the beijing accent because the beijing accent Different to the Chuni accent You don't know the difference The Chuni accent
Starting point is 00:41:47 Is more of a little Sing song kind of thing Yeah that's true I don't like to say the word nanny But my extended family member Who watches my children Is Trini And that's how she sounds
Starting point is 00:41:57 Right It's like sing song Yes But Bajan accent Is a different kind of thing Altogether So don't worry I can teach you a few.
Starting point is 00:42:05 Absolutely. A little something, something. Absolutely. Right? Good. I forget the question. Oh, you're talking about the wedding. Your wedding. You mentioned the wedding.
Starting point is 00:42:12 Yes. So I was actually singing at the wedding. I was singing in the church and he was there as a guest. It was his cousin, one of his cousins that was getting married. And usually I would just sing and I would go. And a friend of mine was a guest and he was like, well, come to the reception. And I was like, yeah, he's like, come on. And I was like, OK, cool.
Starting point is 00:42:32 It was a white Bajan wedding. What does that mean? So we have now people from Barbados, Barbadian or Bajan. It's a majority black country. OK. But we do have white, Asian, Indian, who are born and raised in Barbados. For Bajans.
Starting point is 00:42:50 Asian Bajans. Is the food better trash at a white wedding? No, same thing. But you find that there's separation in terms of the communities meeting. White Bajans are in the minority
Starting point is 00:43:06 But they tend to Kind of stick to themselves Kind of thing So the fact that it was a white Bajan Wedding I was like I didn't really know a lot of white Bajans So I was like Maybe I'll just kind of
Starting point is 00:43:21 Take a little walk through So I decided to go into the tent. Well, I knew the, I actually knew the couple that got married. So that's how I ended up singing for the wedding. They requested it. So I went in and I actually saw a friend of mine. She is a dancer. So she, you know, hi, whatever, whatever.
Starting point is 00:43:39 And then she was like, have you ever met my brother? I'm like, well, I didn't even know you had a brother. So she's like, come, let me introduce you to my brother. And she introduced me to this tall six foot something guy with green eyes, curly hair and cute. And I was like, hello. And we started, you know, we started talking and I don't remember a lot of what we talked about, but we kind of started. That's where our, you know, our friendship kind of started from there. And then, you know, it became more as we went along.
Starting point is 00:44:17 Why don't you remember the conversation? Because in your mind, you was already thinking as long as you don't say the wrong thing, you're good. That's exactly it. That's exactly it. You could say anything to me right now there's probably so many men were trying to holler at you yeah all the time was that hard for him to have you traveling being on the road working by the way that wasn't humble at all definitely definitely all the time. I'm just telling the truth. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:44:47 You know what I'm saying? Not really because we try to stay in contact, you know. He met me doing this. Right. You know, it's not like this was a surprise. So it's like, it's something that you have to deal with. Yeah. You know, because I don't intend on stopping anytime soon. That's so interesting that you met your husband, though, because a lot of, you know, celebrities, they don't trust people because they're like, what is this person's intention?
Starting point is 00:45:16 Right. So how did you open yourself up to say, you know what, maybe this guy might be the one for real? I think it was it was his approach. He didn't come at me like that typical guy that was all about Alison Hines kind of thing. I love Ragamuffin. That's my song. He also had a sister who's a dancer. So I'm sure he, you know.
Starting point is 00:45:40 Yeah. Family members in the business. Yeah. So he just spoke to you like a person. He treated you like a human. Yeah. And the thing is we had a friendship yeah you understand we had a friendship and for me that was really um that was really important because we could talk and not just kind of like random stuff just really talk and hang out and that kind of stuff so all of that kind of because i we got to know each other what's his sister's intention to hook you up i don't know you know i'm trying to
Starting point is 00:46:12 did i ever ask her that because it feels like she's like you mean my brother come in say hi got them yeah let's get allison in the family that accent i it's gotta stop That accent in the family. That accent. I. It's got to stop. I'm Patois Papi. That's my nickname. I don't know if she consciously did. You know, maybe there was something somewhere in her psyche.
Starting point is 00:46:43 Did you ever give her a gift or anything? Just to say thank you? The gift was she came to the wedding. Okay. Okay. Like her brother got married off. True. True.
Starting point is 00:46:57 So, you know, but yeah, I have really cool sisters, sisters-in-laws. All right. We have more with the Soka Queen, Alison Hines. When we come back, don't move. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 00:47:09 Now, we're still kicking it with Soca Queen, Alison Hines. Yee. Do you feel like Soca music's getting way more popular now? I think to a point, but there's still a lot more that needs to happen. So for people listening, if they've never really heard Soca, or they have and don't realize it, we have Allison Hines. Can you talk about some other Soca artists who you should say, put this on your playlist so you can get familiar? Okay.
Starting point is 00:47:30 Let me write these down. So I'm thinking Marshall. Of course. Marshall Montana. I know Marshall Montana because when I was... What's his name? Marshall Montana. That's it?
Starting point is 00:47:43 Marshall? Marshall. I was in Anguilla one year and he was performing for New Year's Eve and he was super excited he was in Bermuda
Starting point is 00:47:51 when I was there okay okay okay okay yeah Marshall Marshall for sure he's like the king of so good yeah so he would be
Starting point is 00:47:58 if you're the queen he's the king that's right that's right that's right Marshall Kes he has more of like
Starting point is 00:48:04 an R&B pop kind of kind of vibe and he's cute too and he did angela you day last year the virtual version okay yeah okay okay that's my song hello hello there you go there you go on the on the female tip would be patrice roberts she is um she's been, she actually was in Michelle's band at one point when she was just coming up. There's also
Starting point is 00:48:31 Nadia Batson. Nadia is a singer-songwriter. She has an amazing voice. This woman, as we say, as Westinia says, she had trot. She got real trot.
Starting point is 00:48:43 She can sing. Don't use that, Charlene. You never want to hear you say that. No. Because when. She can sing. Don't use that, Charlamagne. Because you never want to hear you say that. No. Because when he says it, it ain't going to be right. No. No, Charlamagne. It's amazing.
Starting point is 00:48:52 No. Not for you. Oh, I'm not going to use it. I do it. He has trot, too. Oh, God. Oh, man. Have you ever heard the song Throat Baby?
Starting point is 00:49:10 No. Who's that? I can't. BRS Cass? You never heard Throat Baby? No. Amazing record. You don't need to.
Starting point is 00:49:18 It has nothing to do with this. All right, good. Now, I just want to give people some guidance because we are trying to make sure that everybody gets familiar. Oh, of course. Of course. Of course. So, yeah. We're going to put together a nice playlist for Charlamagne after all of this so he can listen.
Starting point is 00:49:33 Yeah. I want to learn. He's going to have such a good time with it. I'm going to tell DJ Spice to do it for you. Yes. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:40 No, that would be good. What could make Soka more popular? Because you got all these streaming platforms, so it's easy access to it. What do you think could make it more popular? I really think in terms of distribution, like even though, yes, you have these streaming platforms and so on,
Starting point is 00:49:54 you need that additional, that additional, you need that budget really to be able to get the music out there. You need to be able to, you know, do all the, you know get onto the interviews and get into that's really i think that's really where because in soca there's no there's no label that just pushes soca music like in general right so each artist is independent basically
Starting point is 00:50:22 that's crazy soca don't have a vp records like i would think vp records actually does have um yeah soca artists okay that's what that's that's this yeah with the with the new song um i'm doing it in collaboration with vp records got you so you know i have that i have vp as as my my the machine behind me you, to kind of really get it. And truthfully, that's why with Angela Yee Day, I try to bring all of these artists from the Caribbean to do the dancehall, the reggae, the soca just because I do want to shed
Starting point is 00:50:54 some light and that's why I wanted to have you up here. Because I feel like it's, you know, way past time, it's overdue and well deserved and so I just want to make sure that we are here more educated on it and paying attention. So I appreciate you for coming through. I appreciate you for performing at Angela Yee Day.
Starting point is 00:51:09 So I'm excited that you're here. And I know people are going to love it. I am thankful. I am very thankful and very appreciative to both of you, to The Breakfast Club, to you, Angie, for having me on your event and just having this opportunity and having this platform to be able to expose Soka music and me as an artist. And this is a big deal for me.
Starting point is 00:51:35 It's a big deal for us to have you up here. This is a big deal. It's just interesting to me like radio, even black radio don't embrace reggae, dancehall and Soka more. It's always like one song at a time. Yes. that's what's been happening you're absolutely correct it's been one song it's been you know it would be roll it gal or it would be um bungee's um differentology or as kevin little turn me on or as rupees tempted to touch you know it's like one song and then a few years later, it's another song. What we got up here was Rumping Shop.
Starting point is 00:52:07 Remember? They was playing Rumping Shop every day. Right. That was Vibes, Vice Cartel. And Spice. Yes. And now it's almost like Afrobeats is kind of taking those slots out. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:17 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. For sure. For sure. How do you feel about Afrobeats? I love Afrobeats. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:52:22 Because, you know, that's our ancestry. Our beats afrobeat because you know caribbean that's that's our ancestry our beats come from come from that you know and i actually had the opportunity to go to ghana a couple of times in 2019 and that was my first time and that's when i it really cemented and i understood that's really where our ancestry is from that was that was a huge that was a huge experience for me it really made me understand that people of color are we are so resilient that's right and so strong to have gone through what we went through for so many years and still be here that's why we need to start telling the story from a perspective of us we're the survivors correct you know a lot of people survived yeah survived correct we got to start having that conversation of you know not just being the descendants of
Starting point is 00:53:08 the enslaved but where the where the survivors correct correct i agree would you collaborate with i'm sure you would but would you collaborate with afrobeats artists there's somebody definitely definitely somebody you want to i actually i know um storm boy so we've actually talked and, you know, we're trying to work on getting that collab going, but yeah, I love Afrobeats. Afrobeats is, is vibes. Is there a Caribbean woman who can't dance?
Starting point is 00:53:34 Is there a Caribbean woman with no rhythm? It's like every Caribbean woman has rhythm. Even when you did that just now, it was like, it was like it was a beat playing. Um, I'm sure there are very few Very few Caribbean women
Starting point is 00:53:49 That don't have rhythm Because it's the black It's the Asian It's the white It's the Indian It's all All, all, all And all the blends
Starting point is 00:53:59 All the blends in between Everybody could whine at least a little bit At least a little bit At least a little bit Let me tell you I bit. Starting point is 00:55:39 It was fun It's Allison Hines It's The Breakfast Club. Well, Kanye's album, Donda, is finally out. And people were surprised because nobody thought it was going to drop until next week. There's been so many delays. But Kanye posted that this Universal put my album out without my approval, and they blocked Jail 2 from being on the album. That's cap.
Starting point is 00:56:13 You know, damn well Universal ain't put that album out without his approval. I remember last week, at some point last week, you reported that the album was dropping on a Sunday. Yeah, I mean, there were a few different days. They actually had it, I think, for next week, and they said it was the third, then they said it was coming out on the fifth. There was just all kinds of confusion, but I remember they said
Starting point is 00:56:31 it was coming out right after he had this last listening session. Exactly, and his whole team, including Boo, who's part of his management, were tweeting about the album when it dropped. They even were posting the process like, oh, just turned it into such and such. Like, stop, Kanye.
Starting point is 00:56:46 Kanye is a clown. He is a clown in a circus. Okay, Envy. He is a clown in a circus. And I'm ashamed of the people around him. Boo, free, pusher, monopoly. He is a clown. And if you don't get your guy together, like Charlamagne said seven years ago
Starting point is 00:57:05 when he came up here and said, the people around you don't love you. And Kanye, the people around you don't love you. You are a clown. I'm sending Kanye healing energy. And we take it back to what you would say in South Carolina. You need to get boxed in the malt. I'm sending Kanye healing energy,
Starting point is 00:57:21 Envy. You are a clown. And the people around you are clowns if they don't check you. You are a clown. I'm sending Kanye healing energy envy. You are a clown. And the people around you are clowns if they don't check you. You are a clown. I'm sending Kanye West healing energy. But I agree with you. Clown. I definitely agree with him about his people. There's a lot of people who enable a lot of toxic behavior from Kanye West.
Starting point is 00:57:38 A lot of people. If my friends around me don't check me. All of y'all are enablers. Yeah, if my friends around don't check me when I do stupid-ish, I'm their clowns too. And if I ever did some clown-ish, my friends would check me. Charlamagne would check me. Ye would check me. But let's talk about it. Clowns.
Starting point is 00:57:53 It's not our story to tell. I'll talk about you. Alright. It was a joke. Alright, now Kanye is on the way to break the record for the most number one albums on the Billboard 200 among artists debuting on the charts. So it looks like that has happened because he is number one. And we got some clips for you. But just as far as the song Jail, right, he said the baby's manager isn't clearing jail.
Starting point is 00:58:20 He posted a conversation that Boo had with him, his manager. He said said so we won't be able to upload unless we take him off what's your thoughts kanye responded why won't he clear jail and he said i don't know and neither is answering their phone kanye said i'm not taking my brother off he was the only person who said he would vote for me in public and he said so the album's not coming out and so then um we saw that the baby's manager, Arnold, responded, this is Cap. I woke up this morning to the social media BS. I never got a call or email from Kanye, Boo, John Monopoly. I just received it today and cleared it in two seconds. Why wouldn't I want to hit song out? It's all about the growth and culture of hip hop and my artists. All of the media blogs and outlets don't believe everything you see in a post. Thank yeah that sounds to me like uh nobody around kanye wanted to simply tell him like hey man um i don't think you should put
Starting point is 00:59:09 the baby on this album right now because of everything that's surrounding the baby right now so instead of just telling kanye that they made up that whole story about you know arnold them not wanting to clear the record that's that's my personal opinion well the baby was added to the album after his manager cleared the verse on Jail Part 2, so that's how the album is 27 songs long. So, alright, now let's talk about some of the features
Starting point is 00:59:33 and some of the things on the album. This was beautiful. His mom's voice is actually featured on the album on a song called Donda. He told me I could talk about anything I wanted to. And you know I am my son's mother. The man I describe in the introduction
Starting point is 00:59:50 as being so decidedly different. My son. And what made the project extra special to me is I got a chance to share not only what he has meant to me, but what he has meant to a generation. As one writer said, we came from somewhere, not just from the wounds of our mothers and the seeds of our fathers, but from a long line of generations who came before us. That song also features Ariana Grande and Tony Williams.
Starting point is 01:00:21 Now, in addition to that, on the song Jesus Lord, which features the Loxjay, Electronica, and Swizz, he talks about his own suicidal thoughts. That's the best song on the album to me, especially the version with the Lox. Yeah, I agree. That's the best one. And album to me, especially the version with the locks. Yeah, I agree. That's the best one. And that is what's on the album.
Starting point is 01:00:49 Also, there's Lord I Need You, where Kanye's talking about his marriage. All right. Now now everybody was not happy about this Kanye album. Soulja Boy was upset because I guess he submitted a verse for Remote Control and it didn't make it onto the album. So he posted,
Starting point is 01:01:18 I don't know how to feel, Kanye. He sent me that song, Remote Control, and I don't hear my verse on it. Hmm, F that N-word. They said Soulja Boy's manager didn't clear it in time. And then he said, song remote control and i don't hear my verse on it f that n word they said soldier boys manager didn't clear it in time and then he said he said tell homie don't hit my phone no more he posted the conversations that him and kanye had where kanye told him yo it's yay i love you bro you're a genius want to work with you on a new gap campaign and my new album so soldier boy is not
Starting point is 01:01:42 happy and he asked people should he leak uh he said F that my Kanye West diss song is finna drop. I'm tired of sparing his clown ass. Is that word again? Clown. Now another person who was not happy is Chris Brown. After the release of Donda. He called Kanye. He said Kanye a whole hoe.
Starting point is 01:02:02 Kanye a whole hoe out you? He a whole hoe. He a whole guarder too. Chris Brown said Kanye a whole hoe out you? He a whole hoe. He a whole garter too. Chris Brown said Kanye a whole hoe out you? Oh my goodness. Wow. And then he said nah he tweaking. Now Fabio Foran was happy though.
Starting point is 01:02:13 Because Fabio says. Everybody was saying nah we tweaking this weekend. Or nah he tweaking. He tweaking. Now Fabio says that after this album comes out now. He's going to switch his attention to Fabio Foran's project, and I guess he'll be executive producing. But Fabio said, I want certain people,
Starting point is 01:02:32 but we're going to work together and put our brains together. I trust his judgments. Did y'all listen to the album? How did y'all feel about it? I'm not listening to that circus, that clown circus. It's 27 songs, so it's a lot to digest. Did you listen to it, Charlamagne? Are you going to support Kanye?
Starting point is 01:02:48 Yeah, I did. I listened to it yesterday. I don't know if it's lackluster or too long. Maybe both. You know, a point first listen for me, it was kind of lackluster. And long. An hour and 48 minutes is nuts. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:03:01 Yeah, it's like a double album. Yeah, even without all the part twos on there. album yeah even without all the part twos on there yeah even without all the part twos on there it's just still too long and it gets exhausting and the music to me sounds kind of dated like Kanye's flow and his sound kind it sounds kind of dated
Starting point is 01:03:17 album was alright but I wasn't blown away upon first listen alright well Kim and Kanye are reportedly working on rebuilding their relationship also. So I think it's just the foundation of it. They still are planning to get divorced for now, but apparently they do want what's best for their kids. And so at least they're on good terms.
Starting point is 01:03:36 When's Drake album coming out? September 3rd. We're going to get to that next. Yeah, we're going to get to that in the next hour. But yes, it is coming out September 3rd. And you saw they vandalized well not vandalize but they put signs outside of uh kanye's home that he grew up in i thought they spray painted i thought they i thought they did vandalize it well there's some signs out front and um it says 45 44 burnt out you know based on the verse from
Starting point is 01:04:01 drake and then it says f justin laboy and then it says, F Justin LaBoy. And then it says, CLB coming soon. No, we do need to say something about Justin. I love Justin. But Justin, that man sent you on a dummy mission for three weeks with wrong release dates and didn't even give you the proper release date to tweet out this weekend. All right. Well, that is your rumor report.
Starting point is 01:04:21 We got dates for Kendrick, too. Kendrick, that's what happens. I think we got no date for Kendrick. All I know is Kanye sent Justin LaVoy on a dummy mission for three weeks straight with wrong release dates and couldn't even give him the right release date for this weekend. Come on, man. Not at all. I'll tell you, he's a clown, man.
Starting point is 01:04:37 Now you start looking at him. You look at that stupid jacket he's been wearing. That's a clown jacket. That's a clown outfit. Those stupid-ass sneakers. Those clown sneakers. Send Kanye West healing energy. Stop.
Starting point is 01:04:46 All right. Send him healing energy, man. All right. All right. We just talked this morning about how you don't know what people are going through. That's right. Send the brother healing energy, man. Yeah, but it's also the people around you that should check you when you do some stupid
Starting point is 01:04:58 ish, even no matter what you're going through. I do agree. No matter what you're going through, it doesn't give you the license to abuse people. That's right. And be disrespectful. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sometimes. I think sometimes you just need through, it doesn't give you the license to abuse people. That's right. And be disrespectful. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sometimes. I think some people sometimes just need to get punched in the face a couple of times.
Starting point is 01:05:10 One good time. Just bloody the mouth a little bit. Not hurt nobody. We don't encourage anybody punching someone in the face. Did you just say you want to punch Kanye West in the mouth? I didn't say that. We don't encourage that. On a Monday morning?
Starting point is 01:05:20 Yeah, sometimes you need that. Absolutely. When people get disrespectful. Yes, you need to bloody them out sometimes. I agree. Let me get some breakfast first before I have this conversation with you in front of millions of people. Who you giving your donkey to, man? Send me some healing energy.
Starting point is 01:05:36 Four after the hour donkey today has to go to former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak. He needs to come to the front of the congregation. Would you like to have a word with him, please? What's so funny? Why are you laughing? Because I'm just sitting here sending out healing energy to people, man. That's all. I'm just sending healing energy.
Starting point is 01:05:52 All right. That's all. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Your mornings will never be the same. Yo, what up, y'all? It's DJ Envy.
Starting point is 01:06:00 Now, you like attention? Because you'll be getting all the looks with the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G or Z Flip 3 5G. This don't be a donkey, because right now you want some real donkeys. It's time for Donkey of the Day.
Starting point is 01:06:23 So if you ever feel I need to be a donkey man, hit me with the heel. Did she get donkey in the name, please, Deli? Absolutely. I have become donkey of the day. At the Breakfast Club, bitches. You're a donkey. Wow, donkey of the day for Monday, August 30th goes the ex-Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak. Yeah, Scott Zolak was a New England Patriots quarterback,
Starting point is 01:06:45 I think, from 1992 to 1998. Don't quote me on that. Now, listen, it's a Monday morning. No better time to talk about double standards than on a Monday morning, right? Double standards happen all day, every day. I hate double standards, by the way. Even though we all know they exist, I hate them.
Starting point is 01:07:01 I hate them because they make people simply not be consistent. Okay, the things a man does a woman can't do. Things a woman does a man can't do. Things a black person say white people can't say. Things that white people do black people can't do. I mean, a double standard is simply a code or policy that favors one group or person over another. Now, when it comes to sports, it's hard to point out double standards sometimes because superstar players, regardless of race, will always get preferential treatment.
Starting point is 01:07:31 It just is what it is. So when I'm looking at the Scott Zolak story and why he's getting donkier today, I see a lot of people saying it's about race. Maybe, probably. But I think in sports, it could be about winning. Who's won? Who hasn't? See, Cam Newton is currently the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots,
Starting point is 01:07:49 but Mac Jones from the University of Alabama, who the Patriots drafted number 15 overall this year, is showing some promise. And Scott Zolak, former QB of the Patriots, was critical of Cam and the difference between him and Mac Jones. Scott feels like Cam is being distracted by, well, let's go to 98.5, the Sports Hub for the report, please. I'd turn off the rap music, first of all, because I think it's distracting for Cam here
Starting point is 01:08:13 because in between every throw he's dancing. I did see Karen Garegian of the Herald tweeting about that as he took the field. He's doing it in between drills, you're saying. Yeah, he makes a throw and the music's still cranking. I know you can hear faintly in the background here but he can't help himself to where mac looks like he came to work again but again is that i'm stopping what i was gonna say is that atypical that none of this sounds atypical from cam yeah different yeah okay different well that's what he does then right
Starting point is 01:08:38 i mean so i i would it would be to me it would be more noteworthy if he was doing something that was out of character like it sounds like he's doing all the same stuff, which means he might be first through the drills, which I don't like. Rap music. Rap music. Rap music is distracting Cam Newton because it causes him to dance between throws. He makes a throw, and the music's still cranking. As Scott says, Scott, two words for you. So what?
Starting point is 01:09:04 Okay. cranking, as Scott says. Scott, two words for you. So what? Okay, number one, Cam Newton has probably been listening to rap music at practice for the majority of his football career. Secondly, rap music is the music of a couple generations, okay? Hip-hop is the music of a couple generations now. I'm
Starting point is 01:09:20 sure, and I can say this with absolutely no statistical facts to back it up, majority of the NFL probably practices the rap music. In fact, I know a person who used to practice the rap music all the time, not only practice the rap music, still to this day he posts videos with rap songs to his IG page. Rap seems to motivate this person quite often, and that person is Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. Okay, in fact, and you can research this yourself,
Starting point is 01:09:47 there's a great article on thesportsrush.com with the headline, Tom Brady used to come out to Jay-Z at Gillette Stadium. Cam Newton being distracted by rap music shows the double standards that exist within the New England Patriots. Great article because anyone who's been watching the NFL for years knows how much Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. loves rap music. Not just loves rap music, but gets his life to rap music. So when you hear a former Patriots quarterback like Scott Zolak
Starting point is 01:10:18 critiquing another Patriots quarterback for doing something that we know we've seen Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. do quite often, then, well, we have to dig into it to see exactly what the issue is. Now, not only did Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. come out to Jay-Z's PSA at Gillette Stadium, he's been caught at practice dancing to the Migos in between throws. It's all in this article on the sports rush.com go check it out now the issue is the double standard here why does the double standard exist easy to say race totally would understand if you said race unconscious bias maybe black man rap music okay white man rap music distraction for the black man never even heard you mention it in regards to Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr., but I think the real issue here is winning and losing.
Starting point is 01:11:08 I don't think Cam gets criticized if he had won a Super Bowl in New England. Hell, your damn show won't get criticized if you win one Super Bowl, nonetheless six for an organization. But this is one of those times when you're over a person, everything about them bothers you. Scott Zolak, if you don't want Cam as your starting quarterback for the Patriots anymore, just say that. If you think the Patriots should go with the rookie Mac Jones, just say that.
Starting point is 01:11:38 Don't be like the guy who wants to break up with his girl, and instead of being a man and just telling her, hey, I'm not into you anymore, he just starts complaining about every little thing, including but not limited to how she chews her food. Now, anything perceived as racist nowadays, you'll probably get an apology for, and that's exactly what Scott Zolak did.
Starting point is 01:11:59 He said referencing rap music could have come off as being racially insensitive. So he apologized. Okay. Listen, in the words of George Carlin, let's not have a double standard. One standard will do just fine. Sadly, that will never be the case. Please give former New England Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak the biggest hee-haw.
Starting point is 01:12:26 All right. Well, thank you seahawk. All right. Well, thank you for that donkey of the day. Where you guys want to go next? Back to bed. Back to sleep, girl. No, can't do that now. But let's open up the phone lines. 800-585-1051.
Starting point is 01:12:43 Now, Charlamagne, your guy's album, Kanye West, was trending all weekend long. No, not all weekend. It came out yesterday. Well, Sunday. It was trending yesterday. Sunday. So let's open up the phone lines. What are your thoughts?
Starting point is 01:12:54 800-585-1051. You heard Kanye's album? What do you think? Hour and 48 minutes long. All right. We'll talk about it. What do you think is going to do better, Kanye or Drake? Drake by a landslide.
Starting point is 01:13:08 I think Drake. That's because of the era that we in, though. I mean, you know, Drake has ran things. Drake has ran things for the past 10 years. If he talks like that, definitely not Drake. Hopefully he doesn't talk like that for an album. So he runs the radio, he runs the screaming, he got the big machine behind him.
Starting point is 01:13:25 And he's built up a lot of cultural cachet in the music space. Of course Drake is going to sell more. Yeah, I think Drake hands down. We know that. I think so. But all right, we'll talk about it when we come back. We're talking Kanye West. You heard that album.
Starting point is 01:13:37 What are your thoughts? Let's talk about it. Phone lines are wide open. It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Pull out your phone. Call in right now. Call me. Add your opinion to The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Pull out your phone. Call in right now. Call me.
Starting point is 01:13:46 Add your opinion to The Breakfast Club topic. Break it down. 800-585-1051. The Breakfast Club. Is your country falling apart? Feeling tired? Depressed? A little bit revolutionary? Consider this.
Starting point is 01:14:02 Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. Start your own country. I planted the flag. I just kind of looked out of like, this is mine. I own this. It's surprisingly easy. There are 55 gallons of water, 500 pounds of concrete. Everybody's doing it. I am King Ernest Emmanuel. I am the Queen of Laudonia. I'm Jackson I, King of Capraburg. I am the Supreme Leader of the Grand Republic of Mentonia. Be part of a great colonial tradition. What could go wrong?
Starting point is 01:14:35 I was making a rocket with a black powder, you know, with explosive warhead. Oh my God. What is that? Bullets. Bullets. We need help! We still have the off-road portion to go. Listen to Escape from Zakistan. And we're losing daylight fast.

Alicia Keys opens up about conquering doubt, learning to trust herself and leaning into her dreams. I think a lot of times we are built to doubt the possibilities for ourselves,
Starting point is 01:16:19 for self-preservation and protection. It was literally that step by step. And so I discovered that that is how we get where we're going. This increment of small, determined moments. Alicia shares her wisdom on growth, gratitude, and the power of love. I forgive myself. It's okay. Like grace. Have grace with yourself. Starting point is 01:17:08 Talk about it. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Now, if you just joined us, we're talking about Kanye West. He released the Donda album, and we're taking your thoughts on it. I haven't heard the album
Starting point is 01:17:25 I just don't like the way he's treating people Okay I'm talking about the album right now We still need to be having energy Oh my gosh This is the reason I haven't listened to the album And I don't necessarily want to listen to the album I just don't like the way he treats people
Starting point is 01:17:41 Get it off your chest Envy And I think he's a clown Clown Like Circus Clown With the stupid jacket and clown. Clown. Like Circus Clown with the stupid jacket and big shoes. Clown. But anyway,
Starting point is 01:17:48 what did you guys think about the album? You guys heard it. So there's certain songs that I really heard like Off the Grid. I like that song. I like Praise God.
Starting point is 01:18:00 And you know, obviously with a lot of Kanye stuff, there's a lot of gospel, religious undertones. So I always can appreciate that. Of course, y'all know my favorite song on here. If you have to guess what it is. Jesus Lord with the locks and the electronica.
Starting point is 01:18:14 I love that one, too. That's my favorite record on there. So. Yeah, I mean, upon first listen, it was lackluster for me, you know, upon first listen. But it's an hour and 48 minutes long. So like Kanye West, it can be very exhausting. All right. I like the joint with West Side and Kanye.
Starting point is 01:18:30 I like Jesus Lord with the Lox and Jay Electronica. I think if he just scaled the project down to like 12, 13 records, it could be a great album. But 28 songs with all the part twos, hour and 48 minutes, it just feels it's too long and it drags to me. And the music sounds kind of dated, man.
Starting point is 01:18:52 You know? By the way, I love that he put I love that he put Shania on the album. I did not anticipate. She's on Pure Souls or Roddy Ricch. Who wrote Kanye? That's hard. That's a dope record. Who wrote Kanye's album this time? Do we know? A lot of people. By committee. It's Do we know? A lot of people. It's a collaborative effort.
Starting point is 01:19:07 I'm sure Consequence, I'm sure Jay Electronica, Boo might have wrote a bar or two. I don't know. Hello, who's this? Yo, this is Black. Black, what's up, bro? What's going on? It's the Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 01:19:20 What it is? Last time we checked, it was Black. Talking Kanye's out. What are your thoughts? Yo, that album is. Last time we checked, it was black. Talking Kanye's out. What are your thoughts? Yo, that album is trash. I'm sorry. Like, it's trash. I couldn't get through the whole thing because it's just trash.
Starting point is 01:19:34 Trash is a strong word, G. I'll say lackluster. Nah. Trash is a good word. Definitely. All right. You got Godson screw out right now I couldn't get through it
Starting point is 01:19:48 I switched it off King's disease 2 is phenomenal Yeah, King's disease 2 is phenomenal It's crazy, it's trash I don't understand the cult behind Kanye West And thank you Envy for Calling him a clown Because he's such a clown
Starting point is 01:20:03 Thank you Hello, who's this? Portia for calling him a clown because he's such a clown. Thank you, brother. He's a clown. Thank you. Hello, who's this? Portia. Hey, Portia. Good morning. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:20:12 Did you hear Kanye's album? No, I refused to listen to it because I just feel like I have not forgotten the things that he's done the last six years. People so easily forget, you know, this man, his comments on slavery, his support of Donald Trump,
Starting point is 01:20:28 he just basically threw black people and people of color under the bus the last six years, and y'all just act like it never happened. It's very frustrating. So I'm happy to hear you, DJ Andy. I was a little surprised when I heard you today saying, you know, all this stuff you was saying, talking tough about Kanye. I'm not. He was talking tough?
Starting point is 01:20:44 I'm not talking tough. You think he was talking tough? I'm not talking tough. You think he was talking tough? I just think he's a clown. He was giving it to him. But I agree with you 100%. Like, you're right. Kanye is a clown. And he showed us and displayed nothing but clown behavior
Starting point is 01:20:56 the last six years. And we just ignore it. Like, it never happened. You know what I mean? I don't feel like he's going to get a pass. And I definitely feel like he dropped that album. He knew that he was going to drop that album. I definitely feel like he dropped that album. He knew that he was going to drop that album.
Starting point is 01:21:08 I think it was because he got scared about Drake's album. I think so, too. I think he was scared of the light-skinned assassin. I think he was scared of Drake, too. I agree. He should have been. Let's send Kanye healing energy, everybody. Let's send him healing energy. We're just discussing music here, okay?
Starting point is 01:21:24 Not his personal antics. Alright, 800-585-1051. Talking to new Kanye, Don, their album. What are your thoughts? It's The Breakfast Club. Good morning. Call me. Add your opinions to The Breakfast Club Topic. Come on.
Starting point is 01:21:46 800-585-1051. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are the Breakfast Club. Now, if you just joined us, we're talking about Kanye West. Have you heard his album? Yee said she likes a couple of songs. Her favorite is the one with the locks and Jay Electronica.
Starting point is 01:22:03 Charlamagne said he likes that one as well. Yeah, I like that song. I love that song, Jesus Lord, with the Lox and Jay Electronica. I like the record with West Side and Conway too. But, you know, for me, the album is very lackluster. You know, an hour and 48 minutes. There's a good album somewhere in that hour and 48 minutes. But the overall hour and 48 minutes is pretty lackluster for me, personally.
Starting point is 01:22:24 It's tough for anybody to have an almost two-hour long album and feel like it was amazing. That's a lot. And like I said, Kanye's flow and sound, it sounds kind of dated. Okay. Hello, who's this? Really dated, actually. Yeah, this is Paul. Hey, Paul, good morning. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:22:39 I'm not really pressed to listen to it. There were so many dates going back and forth. I mean, I get around to listening to it. I don't want to listen to it, but it's no big deal. So you don't even listen to it? He wanted to make it perfect and put it out. I'm going to take my time listening to it. Why are you so mad about him?
Starting point is 01:23:00 Why are you proud of him? No, I'm not mad. I just don't like the way he treats people. Let's tell the truth. It's behind the scenes stuff going on that we know about that we can't speak, you know, publicly about because it's not our story to tell. Right. But yes, it was very lame. But I'm sure it'll come out soon, but
Starting point is 01:23:15 you don't speak... You don't talk to people with disrespect and speak to people with disrespect and then expect people to support you. I just think it's clown and I just think people will say he's having problems, he's having an episode, but there's so many people around him that should be making sure he's doing the right thing, and they're not. And I just think that whole team and what they're doing is clown work.
Starting point is 01:23:32 And I would hope that if I did that or Charlamagne did that or Yee did that or anybody did that, that their real friends and real family would check them and not allow them to do that. And I just think it's clown work, and I can't support it. Hey, always remember, I got a black wife, okay? So ain't nobody gonna check me harder than her. I was gonna say that too. Ain't nobody
Starting point is 01:23:49 gonna check me harder than my wife. Ain't nobody gonna check me harder than my beautiful black wife, okay? Word. Somebody said on Twitter that Kanye must not have sent his cars for Envy's car show. Is that what it is? He ain't sending a Tesla over? He ain't sitting the Tesla over? He ain't sitting the Tesla clown car?
Starting point is 01:24:08 I definitely wouldn't want the clown car in the car show. I have real friends that support me. I definitely don't want that clown car in the show. Hello, who's this? What's up, guys? This is Joe from the Bronx, baby. Joe, good morning. We're talking Kanye West.
Starting point is 01:24:23 What are your thoughts? Honestly, I used to be a big fan, but, you know, I think the album was just kind of lame, to be honest. The production was, it just seemed like a little bit old and just washed up. Wasn't really looking forward to anything there, but features were all right. I thought it was just me.
Starting point is 01:24:39 The production sound dated. Like, it sounds very, like, 10, 12 years ago. Yeah. Sounded like he was trying to go back to that twisted fantasy vibe with the Yeezus, but yeah, the gospel music don't really do it for me. Alright, thank you, man. Now listen, I think Envy might be swaying
Starting point is 01:24:56 the jury here. They got to be. You're not going to sit here and tell me all of these people think that this album is whack. Yeah, because on social media, I was seeing a whole different story. I'm just going through the calls. Hello, who's this? This is Gwen. Hey, Gwen. social media, I was seeing a whole different story. I'm just going through the calls. Hello, who's this? This is Gwen. Hey, Gwen. Good morning, everybody.
Starting point is 01:25:09 Good morning. I'm just calling because DJ Envy, I adore you guys, but you're going a little bit hard. He lost his mom. And if you think about the state of the world and where we are today and what we're going through, we need the topic of this album is his mom. So how you're going hard at him, that's a lot for him to deal with.
Starting point is 01:25:32 And I actually was able to relate to this album and I'm not feeling Kanye for all the nonsense that he did because I just lost my mom in November on my son's birthday. And so I can't and I'm trying to suppress it. And so that album, listening to some of those things.
Starting point is 01:25:47 Hello? Yeah, we have a little story. I said, I'm sorry. I'm sorry to hear that, but go ahead. And listening to some of those songs made me like bring a lot of stuff up. Like no matter how you try
Starting point is 01:25:58 to suppress something, you just need to find something to put you in tune with it and it'll just bring it to the surface. And that's happening because a lot of people have lost a lot of people. And we kind of need to deal with it because if not, things are not going to get better. And attacking him and calling him a clown, that's a lie.
Starting point is 01:26:19 Like, that hurts. That hurts me. That's why we have to send him healing energy. Send him healing energy. We don't have to deal with our brothers like that. We don't have to deal with our brothers like that. No, even though he lost his mom and he's going through a lot, you still treat people
Starting point is 01:26:35 with respect in a proper way. And if you don't, I feel it's a clown. You don't have to agree, but we're so sorry he lost his mom. We're sending you some love. But I feel what she's saying because he kind of hasn't been the same since then and i'm sure it's very emotional for him putting out this donda album with his mother's voice on it and everything that's like paying homage to her so i can understand where she's coming from and the pain that she's going through may her relate to the pain that i'm sure he's going through still i'm
Starting point is 01:27:02 sending the brother kanye west healing energy but I'm just simply talking about the music. I'm simply talking about the album. The album to me is lackluster, and it's too long. An hour and 48 minutes is nuts. You know what Kanye's album really reminds me of? You remember those big decorative cakes? You know those cakes that are made to look like things? They can be a book or a person.
Starting point is 01:27:23 You opened your coffee shop this weekend. Somebody would make like a cake that looks like the building. Yes. So the cake looks amazing. Or a stack of money. Yeah. So the cake looks amazing, but it's just okay when you eat it. That's what this album is to me.
Starting point is 01:27:38 You think there's too many appearances? Not really because Kanye's a producer. The appearances didn't bother me. The music just really sounded dated to me. Like the production just sounded dated. And it's just a very, very, very long, long project. So dated as in like old clown music? Oh, God.
Starting point is 01:27:58 I'm sending Kanye West healing energy. We got rules on the way, Yee. I hope whatever Kanye is dealing with, I hope one day he gets the healing that we all deserve. That's what I hope for Kanye West. All right, well,
Starting point is 01:28:10 let's celebrate some black women and we'll discuss some excellence when we come back. All right, we'll get into that next. It's The Breakfast Club.
Starting point is 01:28:15 Good morning. The Breakfast Club. Morning, everybody. It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha Guy. We are The Breakfast Club. Good morning.
Starting point is 01:28:27 Now, you know what I seen over the weekend when I was on the flight? I seen Spiral. Okay, I watched that. What'd you watch? I watched that already. It was fine. It had some little funny comedic moments. I thought it was pretty good.
Starting point is 01:28:38 I watched it. It wasn't too scary, but I thought it was pretty dope. It was gory, but that's how the Saw movies are. They're a little gory, and you'd be like, no, don't go in there. No, it was entertaining. I enjoyed it. Alright, well, let's get to the rumors. Let's talk Candyman. This is the Rumor Report with Angela
Starting point is 01:28:54 Yee. Rumor has it. On Breakfast Club. Listen, one thing I cannot wait to do when I get back home and I have a moment is to go to the movies and see Candyman. Now, Candyman has topped the box office and made twenty two point three million in the opening weekend. And the film is directed by Nia Jocasta.
Starting point is 01:29:14 It's the first directed by a black woman to debut at number one in the US. So drop on the clues for her and Candyman. That is amazing. I cannot wait to go see that. Yeah, I saw an ill meme this weekend. It said Candyman didn't bother you unless you, uh, Candyman didn't bother you if you kept his name out your mouth. Well, listen, you guys don't really watch our movies, but y'all saw Candyman, of course,
Starting point is 01:29:43 right? No, I don't remember seeing Candyman. Y'all have got to watch Candyman. It was in the Caprini Green Projects. And if you look in the mirror and say Candyman five times, it pops up. Now I'm good. Why would you do that? I know the story, and that's exactly why I ain't watching.
Starting point is 01:30:00 All right. Now her is going to be starring and joining the cast of the color purple movie musical i love that so that's gonna be really really dope she's gonna play the character of squeak a waitress turned aspiring singer who was played by radon chong in the original 1985 movie so some more uh excellence by black women the musical will be produced by oprah winfrey and steven spielberg so that's uh exciting it's going to premiere December 20th, 2023. Talk about doing things in advance, right? All right. And Jay-Z celebrated the 4040 Club anniversary and a lot of people showed up. All right. Some of the people that I saw that were in attendance were Meg Thee Stallion,
Starting point is 01:30:40 Swizz Beatz, Meek Mill, Remy Milo, Uzi, Van Jones, Pusha T, Victor Cruz, Michael Rubin, Mayno, and of course, Beyonce was there. Did I miss anybody that y'all saw? I saw Angela Rye there. I saw Tiffany Cross there. I saw Lil Uzi. I seen Clark Kent DJ. I seen Uzi. Partisan Fontaine.
Starting point is 01:31:04 Looked like a good time Party was there yep It was for real Yeah I was like Everybody's out I feel like we don't really see Jay-Z at parties like that
Starting point is 01:31:13 Now Jay-Z shared the best So Yeah yeah That's what I'm saying You don't really even see him anywhere So it was the 18th anniversary And
Starting point is 01:31:21 Jay-Z and Beyonce Also talked about Why they're such great collaborators. He said his wife is super detail oriented, obviously, as you can see from her work. He said she's incredibly hard worker, super talented, very inspiring. And so as you can see, the two of them are going to continue to work together. That's nice when you're married, but you can also work together and make that money together and do things like keep the money in the family. Yep. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:46 Because people really slept on the damn everything is love album. I really I'll be trying to put my finger on why that album wasn't bigger because it was a phenomenal project. But for some reason, people slept on everything is love album in a real way. All right. Now, Pusha T says that his new album is coming soon. So get ready for that he said that actually on an interview on the blue carpet at the 40 40 club he said new album coming soon check for donda and i can't wait to hear that i want to hear push his album right he said he
Starting point is 01:32:17 hasn't titled it yet it's probably going to be 12 songs he said i usually don't do a lot of extras i feel like i have some extras right now, but I'm going to keep 12. And then he said he's going to go sit in with Kanye for a little bit. But other than that, it's just those 12. All right. And Boosie over the weekend still had his Boosie bash, even though Hurricane Ida was hitting Louisiana. He did still have everything go down in Baton Rouge. And it looks like they tore it down. The baby was there.
Starting point is 01:32:41 The little baby was there, even though there were some hurricane warnings at the time. And the festival did move forward. So I know that was scary for people who had all kinds of events about to happen that they had to cancel. It was actually supposed to be the Browner Brothers Hair Show in New Orleans, but they had already canceled it because of COVID. So again, we are keeping our eye on everything that's happening in Louisiana and sending our prayers to everybody who's been affected. We told you more than a million people are without power and we'll keep you updated on those numbers. But that was a Boosie over the weekend. Boosie bash still went down.
Starting point is 01:33:15 All right. Well, I'm Angela Yee and that is your rumor report. All right. Thank you, Miss Yee and shout to Bergen Catholic high school. My son plays for the varsity team. They had their first game, and they won.
Starting point is 01:33:27 I think they blew out the Ohio team, I think like 42-7. So this was, I mean, Logan played varsity off and on last year as a sophomore, but this year he's starting as a junior, and he scored his first touchdown. So drop a bomb for Lil' Logie. Drop one of Clue's bombs for Lil' Logie, damn it. Lil' Logie. He be out here slamming his punk-ass daddy in no time. I think you can slam him now.
Starting point is 01:33:49 I think so, too. I thought it was going to be raining all day, but fortunately it was like a little bit of drizzle. Just a little bit of drizzle, not much at all for like five minutes. And you know what? We had Chick-fil-A sponsor it, two Chick-fil-A's, but one But the Chick-fil-A, they're black-owned Chick-fil-A's. One of them is right across from the Barclays in Brooklyn. That's so dope. Dope.
Starting point is 01:34:09 Yeah. I didn't even know there was a black man that owned that. So shout out to him. All right. And I just want to tell little Logie, Envy's son Logan, that whoever can slam who in the house is the man of the house. So go take your throne, King. Shut up.
Starting point is 01:34:22 Take your throne, young King. Shut up. All right. Put your daddy on his back. I'm going to jump him. All right. Make him call for the house. So go take your throne, King. Take your throne, young King. Alright. Put your daddy on his back. I'm gonna jump him. Make him call for the dog. I'm gonna jump him. Put your daddy on his back and make him call for the dog, okay? I'm gonna jump him.
Starting point is 01:34:35 Alright, well, the People's Choice Mix is up next. Revolt, we'll see you tomorrow. Let's start the mix off with some Kanye. No, I'm just joking. Your mornings will never be the same. Hey, what up, y'all? It's DJ Envy here. Listen, mediocre phones are out. The new Samsung

Starting point is 01:35:08 It's DJ Envy, Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God. We are The Breakfast Club. Again, shout out to everybody that was out in Detroit. Had an amazing time like every other time I'm out there. Shout out to Bushman. Shout out to Michael Saunders. And don't forget, we're doing my car show in Detroit, October 30th, the day before
Starting point is 01:35:24 Halloween. So it's going to be a great event. Celebrity cars, exotic cars. We're going to have candies for kids. We're going to have the best costume prizes. Just get your tickets. It's going to be a lot of fun. Amusement rides, carnival games, really family fun, safe for the kids and family. So can't wait to see you guys.
Starting point is 01:35:41 Tickets are on sale right now. Now, Ye, you had an amazing time this weekend, right, for Ye Day? Yes. I just want to thank everyone who came out. All the artists who came out and performed, they really donated their time just for everyone to be able to come out and have some fun. And so all of the sponsors that were there, Miss Jessie's, Chick-fil-A,
Starting point is 01:35:58 we had the U.S. Army was out there. It was Personal Care, CD Pap, everybody that was out there just sponsoring. Allison Hines closed out the show, and she was also on The Breakfast Club this morning, but she was so amazing. Chanel Muir, who else came through?
Starting point is 01:36:14 It was some surprise guests that showed up that weren't even on the itinerary, so that was really dope. It was a lot of soca artists, a lot of reggae artists, dance artists. My girl Naomi Cowan, who always shows up, hood celebrity who has done it every single year. This is the third year and she always shows up and she kills it every single time.
Starting point is 01:36:33 So much love to hood celebrity who came through. Also, Romaine Virgo. He came from Jamaica. So I appreciate him so much. And the ladies are going crazy. They love Romaine Virgo. Who else performed? It was just a lot, man. I don't want to forget anybody, but I just want to thank all of the artists who came out. We got some fun videos that we'll be posting for anybody who couldn't make it. Noah Poa, of course. I don't know if you saw the video, but there was somebody's grandmother that got up there.
Starting point is 01:36:59 I seen that, man. That poor lady, man. Y'all put on that stage. Hold on. She had the time of her life. Let's be clear. She was twerking, and y'all had to pick up off her knees, that poor lady. How old was that woman?
Starting point is 01:37:12 Noah Poa had her going insane, and she has so much fun. They did have to help her up. They did. They did. But she managed to get low all on her own. Adrian Marcel, he got a little freaky with one of the women in the audience. So y'all check on that old, that's somebody's grandma to make sure she was OK this Monday. You know, it's crazy.
Starting point is 01:37:33 I was standing at the entrance when she was coming in with her walker. And so I was like, OK, this is nice. You know, it's a community event. There's kids, people of all ages. Everybody's welcome. Everything's free, free food, free everything. And I didn't know she was going to do all all that but she definitely was the highlight of the show a lot of people were like that's gonna be me i love it all right when we come back positive
