What's going on, guys? Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Crawford podcast. I'm Bryce. And today, by the title of this episode, is probably why you clicked on it, is homosexuality a sin. And I'm going to be completely honest. We're actually not talking about that today. I knew you would click on it if you're watching it because of the title of the video. We're actually going to talk about sin because it's sin that separates us from God, not just homosexual sin. And I figured since it's Pride Month, titling,
the video and trying to talk about sin would be a really good topic.
Before we get into the video, if you guys want to support our ministry, there's two ways
you can.
You can donate to our nonprofit with a one-time or tax-deductible monthly donation.

and get some fire Jesus merch.
But let's talk about sin because it's not just homosexual sin that separates us from God.
It's all sin, whether it's substance abuse,
whether it's sexual sin, whether it's anger, frustration.
We're going to go into it in a minute,
but we've got to define what sin is,
and we're going to go into what the Bible says about sin.
So the first thing I want to go to here is Mark 7,
where Jesus is saying,
what comes out of a person is what defiles him.
For from within, out of the heart of a man,
come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.
All these evil things come from within and they defile a person.
So when we look at us as human beings, we have to understand that when we're born into the
world, our original nature and way of thinking is of sin.
And Romans 6 says, for the wages of sin is death.
So if we're born into sin, like you can't teach a baby to get frustrated at their mother, you know?
I've seen so many babies yell and scream and fuss at a mother that they can't even say their own words.
How do you teach a baby that?
You can't.
It's their inherent nature that they're born with.
Every human being is born into sin.
And Romans 6 says, the wages of sin is death.
So sin separates us from God and because of sin, we deserve death.
And that's the importance of Jesus, is sin is separation from God, and because of sin, we deserve death.
But Jesus loves humankind so much.
He says, I want relationship with them, so I'm going to die for them.
And if they choose to believe in me and receive my forgiveness, then they shall live.
Because when Jesus talks about death, and actually this passage in Romans when it says,
the wages of sin is death, it's not just talking about a physical death.
Like, yes, if you look in Genesis 3, when Adam and Eve's sin,
a punishment is physical death.
But when Romans is talking about the wage of sin being death,
it's talking about spiritual and eternal separation from God.
So our sin will literally separate us for an infinite amount of time
away from the one who instilled breath inside of our lungs.
But there's hope in that verse.
Then it says, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ, Jesus.
If we so believe in Jesus Christ, and ask him to forgive us.
And we say, I'm a wretched sinner.
God forgive me and transform.
my heart, then we shall live. It's powerful. And in Romans 3, it says all have sinned. So if you meet a
human being in this planet that's like, oh yeah, no, I've never sinned. They're lying. Every human
being is sin. You know, the other day, we were at the pride parade, sharing Jesus. I don't know
if you guys have seen the videos on the main YouTube channel, but we're there and we, this,
this like street preacher that was handed out, what are those called, those things?
things, pamphlets. He was handing out pamphlets, gospel pamphlets, and he stopped us. He recognized us.
And he did his, he was like, dude, let me show you what I do in the street. He showed us what
he did in the street. And he was like, have you ever lied? Yeah. And he's like, so what does that
make you? A liar. He's like, have you ever stolen anything or taken anything without it being
given to you? Yeah. And what does that make you a thief? And it's like, okay. And so recognizing
that every human being has done something wrong. Now here's the, here's the, here's the, here's the,
thing about sin is some people think oh all I did was tell a lie and this person murdered someone
all sin on the spectrum whether in the eyes of a human being one is grander than the other any
sin sends us sends us into separation from God any sin does it's not like oh well I just told a little
white lie and this guy over here this guy he he slept and cheated on his girlfriend so well this
guy cheated on his girlfriend and me, I just lied once. All sin separates us from God.
So in the eyes of God, all of mankind has fallen short. And what I love about Jesus is if all
you've done is lie before and little Jimmy over here has slept and cheated on his girlfriend,
God doesn't look at Jimmy with more condemnation than you. All sin has separated us from God.
but in Jesus's eyes through his blood we can be forgiven isn't it crazy that god has a list of all the
sins that you have committed and if you just ask for forgiveness he'll wipe that slate clean and he'll
look at you as if you'd never done it it's crazy to think about that that's how jesus views us
says man sin separates us sin separates you from me and sin makes you dirty but if you come to me
to be clean i can look at you as if you've never done anything i think that
that's the freedom of the cross.
You know, sometimes, like, if we've struggled with sin in the past
and we haven't fully received Jesus' forgiveness,
we carry this baggage as if other people are going to look at us nasty.
And I think the freedom and when Christians say walk in freedom,
I think the walking in freedom looks like understanding
that it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks but Jesus.
And if Jesus sees me as clean,
then I can walk as if I'm clean because he sees me as clean and it's the truth.
and if I believe that I'm clean and I walk as if he sees me as clean,
then other people will see the effects of Jesus in my life,
and they'll too believe I'm clean.
I think it's a beautiful thing.
And I think it was crazy the other day,
I got asked like someone like was going ham on me in my DMs on Instagram,
and they were like, well, Bryce, what about Jeffrey Dahmer?
If you guys don't know who Jeffrey Dahmer is,
Jeffrey Dahmer was a serial killer, he would do insanely awful things to human beings.
beings, incredible, incredibly awful murder.
And they go, well, what about Jeffrey Dahmer?
You know, Jeffrey Dahmer says that he gave his life to Jesus before he died.
And, you know, how do we know it?
Jeffrey Dahmer doesn't deserve to go to heaven.
Well, did he go to heaven?
I don't know.
I don't know if he went to heaven.
Because only man knows God's heart.
You know, in Psalm 139, King David being a man after God's own heart, asks God to
search his heart to know him.
So we can ask pastor, priest, me, friends, does the worst of the worst go to heaven if they
really repent and believe in Jesus?
The answer would be yes.
Yes, they do go to heaven if they truly repent and ask for forgiveness from Jesus Christ.
Now, do I know if Jeffrey Dahmer went to heaven?
No, I don't.
Why?
Because I don't know his heart.
And that's the next point I want to go into about sin is the heart posture.
James 4 says, whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it for him, it is sin.
There's so many times that we say, oh, man, and again, let me preface this before I go into what I'm going to say.
If you know the right thing to do and you don't do it, it's sin.
If you don't know the right thing to do and you still do it, it's still sin.
But James here is writing about the weight and the gravity of sin.
Like how can you know the right thing to do and not do it?
How dare you dabble in sin?
And Proverbs says,
as a pig returns to his vomit,
so does a fool return to his own folly.
I remember growing up,
and I had this dog growing up in my family,
and my dog would go in the backyard,
would poop, and then would turn around,
and he eat his own poop.
And I'd be like, what the heck?
That's nasty.
A dog eating his own poop.
I would walk my dog in the backyard.
He would poop and turn around.
around and eat his own poop and I would say that's disgusting and in the same way that my dog would
eat his own poop is the same way that a lot of people live their lives sinning asking God for
forgiveness and then going and willingly sinning because they think oh God's forgiven me so I can just go do
whatever I want no according to the Bible that is foolish for a fool to return to his own folly
the purpose of the cross of the blood of Jesus is to set us free from that bondage and he has
The crazy thing about sin is it died 2,000 years ago on the cross.
You just have to believe it for yourself that it was dead when it was dead.
And so a lot of us partake in something that's already been dead.
Like when we sin, a lot of us are just shaking a dead body.
It's not actually living attached to us.
Like sin isn't living attached to us.
We were born into a sin nature, yes, but like it's already dead.
And we've got to believe that it's dead.
And a lot of us are shaking a dead body.
Now, if you look at the Bible and Luke,
in Luke chapter 6
something very interesting Jesus says
Jesus says for no good tree bears bad fruit
nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit
and he goes and talks and he says
out of the mouth comes the overflow of the heart
when we're born into sin
our actions and our thoughts and our words
may be of a sin nature
but in Ezekiel it says that he'll change our heart of stone
to a heart of flesh and through the renewing of our mind
a.k.a. changing the way we think through
scripture and through prayer.
God can change it. It's crazy because
in John 15, he
says, I am the true vine and my father is
the vine dresser. Every branch in me that does
not bear fruit, he takes away. And every
branch that does bear fruit, he prunes.
Pruning means to cut branches
off of a living plant
so that it grows more beautiful.
Okay? That's what pruning looks like.
Pruning means to cut something off so it grows
back more beautiful.
And the reality is, is when you give your life
to Jesus, there's parts of you that need to be pruned. And if you're someone who says, I'm a
Christian, but I struggle with sin, you need to ask God, God, search my heart, know my heart,
and prune the things out of my life that are slowly killing me. That's what we have to ask
Jesus. And last thing I want to say is from Matthew 5. Matthew 5 says, Jesus says,
if you're angry at a brother you've committed murder in your heart
if you look at a woman with lustful intent you've committed adultery in your heart
it's not just about the action here jesus is saying our heart posture matters
and like yes the action is the sin but if our heart is wicked like man that's where the pruning
comes in saying god cut these things out of my life that are making me wicked and fill me with your
spirit and fill me with your grace god thank you that i'm clean and new and you and you
And so to sum up this episode, is homosexuality a sin?
It is a sin.
But it's no more a sin than it is to get angry at a brother in your heart.
It's no more than a sin than to look at a woman or a man with lustful intent in your heart.
It's no more than a sin to lie to your brother or to take something that's not been given to you.
All sin separates us from God.
And whether someone struggles with sexuality, their temper,
substance abuse, it doesn't make you or I morally greater than them.
And that's freeing to look at our brothers and sisters and say, man,
our brothers and sisters are sick.
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in Exodus and they looked on it to be healed.
So the son of man was lifted up.
And as people who are sick with sin in our heart,
if we look to the son of man, we can be healed and saved.
Jesus, I thank you for everyone watching and listening to this.
this episode, I pray that they experience freedom from sin and a relief and your yoke of ease on
their shoulders. God, thank you for everyone watching and listening. In Jesus' name, amen.
