He's chewing on his noodle toy. You guys saw us open this early on in one of the earlier episodes.
But, you know, as always, we got to get Dylan the Elf in here.
Elf Dylan, Elf Dylan.
Can you get in here?
Come on.
Thank you so much.
Thanks for being here, man.
I appreciate that.
Yeah.
There's actually one over here.
Should I open this pink one?
Open it.
Yep.
Thank you.
Merry Christmas, Chris.
You earned it.
It's a megaphone.
Thank you so much, man.
Why did you get me this?
Just so you can keep everything in line, you know?
I know sometimes it's tough to hear you.
You yell at Chris Camus if he's not doing a good job at
Thanks man, I appreciate that. I want to yell at you.
You go, hey, give it to me.
Thank you so much for this megaphone. That was super kind.
You are so thoughtful, Elf Dylan.
Give it up for Elf Dylan.
Very good.
Thank you. Well, as always, we're going to be reading in the Word of God today.
It's going to be great and it's going to be amazing.
We're going to be in Luke chapter 13.
It says there was some present at that very time.
We told him about the Galileans whose blood, Pilot had mingled with their sacrifices.
And he answered,
Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered in this way?
No, I tell you.
But unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
And then he reiterates himself again in verse 5.
Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
He reiterates itself and says it's very clear.
You got to turn from your ways.
You can't keep living the same.
It's something to stop living for yourself.
We're not just mouth breathers to say, oh, Jesus, I believe in you, and then I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing.
We don't abuse grace like Paul writes in Romans.
What makes you different than the demons?
Even the demons believe.
It's your obedience that makes you different.
Your willingness to turn from your old ways and submit yourself to God.
Then he told a parable, a man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
And he said to the vine dresser, look for three years now, I've come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none.
cut it down. Why should it use up the ground? And he answered him, sir, let alone this year.
Let it alone this year also until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit
next year, well and good. But if not, you can cut it down. Jesus is checking for fruit. He's checking
for fruit in your life. And the evidence of the Holy Spirit in your life is that you're walking
out his statutes. Now the Bible says the righteous man falls seven times. That's not an excuse to sin.
But notice that the righteous man falls seven times and gets
back up. Okay? If you're someone who's in a season of drought and a season of struggling,
this is your sign to get back up. Let the grace of God empower you to keep moving forward.
Verse 10, now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath, and behold, there was a
woman who had a disabling spirit of 18 years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself.
When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, woman, you are freed from your disability,
and he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight and she glorified God.
But the ruler of the synagogue indicated that because Jesus healed her on the Sabbath,
he had healed on the Sabbath, he said to the people,
there are six days in which work ought to be done.
Come on those days and be healed and not on the Sabbath day.
And Jesus goes, you hypocrite.
If your ox or donkey went from the manger to the water,
would you not go get it?
Would you not untie your ox and take it to the water?
Isn't that work?
And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham,
who's Satan bound for 18 years, be loose from this bond on.
the Sabbath. You know what's so crazy is that they're getting angry at Jesus for healing this woman,
but the first time in 18 years, she was able to experience rest, and not only physically,
but spiritually and emotionally, Jesus met her. Verse 18, he says, what is the kingdom of God like?
And what shall I compare it to? It's like the grain of a mustard seed that a man took in soda in his garden.
Isn't that crazy? And it grew and became a tree in the birds of the air made nests in its branches.
You know how small a mustard seed is? It's so tiny. Do you know what the kingdom of God?
is like a mustard seed, but it's not just that tiny seed. It's one that was planted,
and it grew, and it flourished. And he says, to what shall I compare the kingdom of God?
It's like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour until it was leaven.
Not the sour part of leaven, but the fact that it spreads. The kingdom of heaven is spreading like a wildfire.
And then he says, in verse 23, some said to him, Lord,
will those who are saved be few, and he said, strive to enter through the narrow gate.
For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able to.
once the master of the house has risen and shut the door and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door saying,
Lord, open to us and he will answer to you, I do not know where you come from.
Then you will begin to say, we ate and drank in your presence and I taught you in our streets,
but he will say, I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of evil.
And in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
When you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves cast out.
And people will come from east and west and from north and south and recline at the
table in the kingdom of God and behold, some are last who will be first and some who are first
will be last. You know, it's so interesting. This reminds me of Noah. Everyone thought he was crazy
building an ark that God was going to flood the earth, but then when the doors are shut, everyone's banging
on the doors. Let us in, let us in. It's too late. It's too late. In the same way, you and I don't just
get to decide to believe in God and put our trust in him when we stand before him.
And we're going to stand before God one day and it's going to be the most real, magnificent, beautiful thing
we've ever seen. It's in that moment that we're going to be judged where we stand. The grace of God
allows us to, the grace of God empowers us to turn away from our sin. It allows us in this lifetime
to choose him or not. This last verse is 31 through 35. Jesus is lamenting over Jerusalem. He says,
go and tell that fox. Go and tell that fox. Laban them as cunning but weak. I cast out demons and
perform curest today and tomorrow and the third day I finish my course. Nevertheless, I must go on my
way today and tomorrow on the day following for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.
I love what he says in verse 34. How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen
gathers her brood under her wings and you were not willing? Your house is forsaken and I tell you,
you will not see me until today. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. He's lamenting
over the fact that he's done so many miracles there and they have not turned room. Guys, I pray that this
chapter was encouraging to you guys and we'll see you guys tomorrow for Luke.
