What's going on, guys. Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Crawford podcast. I'm Bryson. Today, we're on Luke chapter 17 of the 24 day Luke series. Guys, we're getting so close to the end. I pray that this series is blessed you guys. It's been a blessing to me. I'm super excited about this chapter 17. It is so powerful. I'm really excited to dive into this with you guys. Before we get into it, guys, January 19th, 6 p.m. in Los Angeles, we've got our first ever live podcast show. It's going to be insane. It's going to be powerful. I would love for you guys to come out, be a part of what we got going on. It's going to be excited.
in. Moses is going to be there. Moses, come here. Come here. My dog won't jump up. The one time I call
Moses to get up here. He doesn't come up here. But come on. Look at him. Come on. But then every time
we're naturally filming, he'll jump in my lap without me wanting him here. Hey, there we go. There we
go. Yeah, he'll be there. He'll be chilling because I feel like every podcast he's always with me.
So for the live podcast show, he's going to be in my lap. It's going to be awesome. But anyways,
let's dive into chapter 17. This is so powerful. And I'm super excited.
read this. Let's start in verse one. And he said to the disciples, temptations to sin are sure to come,
but woe to the one through whom they come. It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around
his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin.
Jesus is saying something very important here. He's like, temptations to sin will always be there.
Notice how he doesn't say you're always going to sin 24-7, meaning that when temptation is thrown in
in front of your face, there's nothing you can do about it. He doesn't say that. But he says
temptations will always come your way. But then he rebukes the one who sets the hook. He's like,
look, if you throw the hook in front of someone's face, fat rebuke, don't do that. Like scold
do you? And then he says, it would be better for the person who leads someone into sin to literally
tie a millstone, a heavy weight around their neck, and then jump into deep waters and drown. It would be
better for that person, meaning like judgment will come your way.
Like it would be better for you to suffer an awful death, a very gruesome, awful death,
than to lead one of the children of God into sin.
That is a big weight in gravity Jesus gives here about sin.
There's a heavy weight to sin.
Then he says, pay attention to yourselves.
If your brother sins, rebuke him.
Meaning if you know someone that sins, correct him, correct him.
And if he repents, forgive him.
but if he turns from it, forgive him.
That's so beautiful, meaning we don't hold grudges against people.
There's grace.
And repentance is actively changing a lifestyle.
Like when we hear repentance, we often just hear, I'm sorry, Lord,
but it's more than just an apology.
Like there's action, turning from one lifestyle and going towards another.
And Jesus is saying, look, if someone sins, correct them,
but if they repent for it, forgive them.
Don't hold it against them.
And if he sins against you seven times in the day and turns to you,
seven times saying, I repent, you must forgive him.
Meaning, don't withhold forgiveness from people.
And I, it's just a practical thing.
It's like a health fact.
Like, even if you withhold forgiveness for people and you hold bitterness in your heart,
like it will kill you.
Like you could stop your heart and you can have a stroke.
So like the physical aspect of it is like, don't hold bitterness in your heart.
But the spiritual aspect is like, man, offer forgiveness because the measure of mercy
that we show to people, God will show that same measure of mercy to us.
Let's go to verse five.
The apostles then said to the Lord, increase our.
faith. The apostles recognized that they needed an increase in their faith, but he says something very
important here. If you had faith like the grain of a mustard seed, the tiniest ounce of faith, you could say to
this mulberry tree, be uprooted and planted in the sea and it would obey you. Mowberry trees
were recognized to be one of the strongest trees, that they had some of the strongest deepest roots that
they could have been planted for 600 years. They could last. That was the rumor. And Jesus is saying
here that if you have the tiniest ounce of faith, that the deepest sin struggle that seems to have
the fattest root in your life could be immediately uprooted if you had just the tiniest ounce of faith.
That if you have the tiniest ounce of faith, that the deepest trial and tribulation that you're
going through that seems unmovable could be uprooted. And just like a mulberry tree that could be
planted and lasted for 600 years, a generational curse that seems have never left your generation.
if you had a faith of a mustard seed, you could break that generational curse in your family.
It's so powerful for what faith can do.
And faith is persistently pursuing God, despite our circumstances, saying, God, you know,
my circumstances in this finite world says it's not possible, but you're a spiritual being
that has no limit and ultimate authority.
God, you can do it.
You can do it.
That's faith.
That is faith.
Verse 7.
Jesus is about to talk about serving him here.
and it's powerful because oftentimes people like to do things
with a motive of getting things in return.
But we're about to listen to this statement here from Jesus saying like,
man, we're in an unmeasurable amount of debt to God in the sense
that he's done something so grand for us
that we will never ever be able to repay him with our actions.
So our actions of servanthood isn't trying to get even with God
because he died on a cross and resurrected.
for our actions of servanthood towards him
or we do it because we want to
because we love him. We're not trying to get even
with God. We just do things because we love him.
Here we go. Well, any
one of you as a servant plowing or keeping
sheep say to him when he has come in from
the field these hard tasks, manual
labor, come at once and recline
at the table. Will he not rather say to him
prepare supper for me and dress properly
and serve me while I eat and drink and afterwards
you will eat and drink? Does he
thank the servant because he did what was commanded?
So you also.
So when you have done all that you were commanded, say, we are unworthy servants.
We have only done what was our duty.
Man, we will never be able to get even with what God has done for us.
But the humility, there's humility and understanding, okay, Jesus Christ has done something
that I couldn't even do for myself.
So in return, I give him my life.
In return, I serve him because I love him.
His unmeasurable amount of love for me has caused me to love him back with my life.
caused me to love him back with my life.
Verse 11.
On the way to Jerusalem, he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee.
And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers who stood at a distance.
Notice that lepers were outcasts of the city, so they were out of the city.
But they would often congregate together because no one else would hang out with them.
But they could hang out with each other because they were deemed unclean.
And lifted up their voices saying, Jesus, master, have mercy on us.
When he saw them, he said to them, go and show yourselves to the priests.
now with faith comes obedience jesus is testing their obedience here and he says go see the priest
and as they went they were cleansed so jesus healed them but he said look go go show yourself to the
priest if you go show yourself to the priest you'll be healed and they did and as they went they were
cleansed then one of them when he saw that he was healed turned back praising god with a loud voice and he
fell on his face at jesus's feet giving thanks now he was a samaritan then he was a samaritan then he
Jesus answered, we're not 10 of you cleansed. Where are the nine? Was no one found in return to give
praise to God except for this foreigner? This is only one return to give me praise. And he said to him,
rise and go your way. Your faith. This is what made you well. Jesus is recognizing a lack of gratitude
that people often have towards him. How often do we say, God, just do this thing for me. And then once you do it,
then I'll love you, then I'll serve you. And then he does it. And then we still don't love him or serve him.
we have a lack of gratitude in our lives yet if we understood that gratitude is the number one weapon against temptation
because if we were constantly grateful we wouldn't mean turning to other things than jesus
and jesus is saying stop like understand that every good gift that comes from heaven comes from me like
be grateful understand that i am the reason for good gifts be grateful
verse 20 now we're about to read about the coming of the kingdom of God and we're going to close here
in chapter 17 start in verse 20 being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come he answered them
the kingdom of God is not coming in the ways that can be observed nor will they say look here it is
or there for behold the kingdom of God is in the midst of you when Jesus said the kingdom of God is in the midst of you
you saying the king was among them he is the king he's amongst them and he said to the disciples
the days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the son of man
and you will not see him.
He's saying that people are longing to see Christ return for the second time.
They will say, do you look there or look here, do not go out or follow them?
People that say, here's the date in the hour that Jesus is going to return a second time.
Don't listen to him because the Bible teaches us that even the son of God,
Jesus Christ doesn't even know he's going to return.
Only the Father does.
For his lightning flashes and lights up the sky.
From one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day.
But first, he must suffer things and be rejected by this generation.
So the first time Jesus came, he came in humility and submission to the will of the Father.
The second time Jesus is going to return, he's going to return in glory and in power to cast judgment over the earth.
Because there is this curse in the earth called sin, there needs to be a great judgment for justice to be served.
Just as it was in the days of Noah, so it would be in the days of the Son of Man.
They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
It's just going to be like normal.
He's just going to return.
Like we're not going to know.
He's just going to return.
There's going to be signs, but he's going to come like a thief of the night.
Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot, they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planning and building.
But on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rain from heaven and destroyed them all.
So it will be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
on that day, let the one who was on the house top with his goods in the house not come down to take them away.
And likewise, that the one who is in the field not turned back.
He say, man, don't try to save your possessions, your earthly possessions.
Don't store your treasures on earth.
Beand find your treasure in Christ.
Find your satisfaction, significance, and security in Christ.
Remember Lot's wife.
Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it.
Whatever loses his life will keep it.
I tell you in that night there will be two in one bed.
One will be taken to the other left.
There will be two women grinding together.
One will be taken in the other left.
This is a reference back to what he said in Matthew.
And he said to them, where's the Lord?
And he said to them, where the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.
That statement's intense.
Where the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.
He's just saying when the judgment is ripe, it will come.
Jesus gives a firm warning about the end time saying, like, look, I'm going to come when it's least expected.
So every day we should live a life in full submission to Christ's Lordship.
in preparation for his return.
It will be a joyous thing when Christ returns
and gives judgment on all the earth,
serving justice,
and we get you reunited with him.
