this series. Can we get Elf Dylan in here? Elf Dylan, where are you at? Man, Elf Dylan, for
for an elf.
You were slacking on the job, man.
I've got to say.
Your dog's going crazy.
I'm sorry about that.
It's all right.
Well, you know what?
Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas, man.
Thank you.
Let's go with,
here.
Merry Christmas.
Oh, that's so kind of you.
Thank you so much.
Let's see what we got in here.
Moses wants a little bit of something in here.
Oh.

Oh, Mountain Dew can with a pair of socks.

That's super sweet of you.
I appreciate that.
Thanks for thinking on me.
You know what?
I'll wear these for the next episode.
Sounds good.
Thank you so much.
Actually, no, I won't wear those for the next episode.
But you know what?
I'll wear them after the series is over.
Why not?
You know what?
Because I like the stocks I got on now.
Fair enough.
All right.
Well, as always, we're getting into the episode.
Luke chapter 22, verse 1.
Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, Drew Neer,
which is also called the Passover.
And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put death
to him for they feared the people. Then Satan entered into Judas, prompted Judas, called to scare
it, who was of the number of the 12. He went away and conferred with the chief priest and officers
how he might betray him to them. And they were so glad and agreed to give him money so they consented
and sought an opportunity to betray him in the absence of the crowd. Now, have you ever been
betrayed by a friend, by a brother, a best friend even? If anyone's going to understand what it's
like to be betrayed by someone close to you, it's going to be Jesus. He was stabbed in the back for
the sake of monetary gain. And you know what? Maybe your friends didn't stab you in the back for money.
Maybe they stabbed you in the back because they wanted status at school. They wanted to look cool
for the sake of gossip. Jesus understands. Verse seven. Then came the day of unleavened bread on which
the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. Notice a Passover lamb is going to be sacrificed on the day of unleavened
bread. Interesting. The Passover lamb? Who's the great lamb of God? That's the beginning of Luke.
He looks at and says, behold, I've seen it. Your promise has been fulfilled. He's looking at the
lamb of God. Here it is. Jesus sent Peter and John saying, go and prepare the Passover for us
that we may eat it. They said to him, where will you have us prepared? And he said to them,
behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you, follow him
into the house that he enters and tell the master of the house, the teacher says to you,
where's the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?
And he will show you a large upper room, furnished, prepare it there.
And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
And when the hour came, he reclined at the table and the apostles with them, and he said to them,
I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
For I tell you, I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
Me, the next time Jesus partakes in communion, the Eucharist will literally be in heaven
at the marriage supper of the Lamb. Isn't that crazy? The next time Jesus partakes in communion
with his disciples, talking about believers, me and you, is at the marriage supper of the land.
After sin and suffering has been defeated. And he took the cup and he had given thanks and he said,
take this and divide it amongst yourselves. For I tell you that from now on, I will not drink
of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God. And he took the bread. And when he had given thanks,
he broke it and gave them saying, this is my body, which is given for you. Do this and
remembrance of me. And likewise, the cup after they had eaten saying, this cup that has been poured out
for you is the new covenant in my blood. But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table.
For the son of man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed.
And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this.
Verse 24, a dispute also arose among them as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest.
They're arguing. Who's the greatest? Who's going to be the grace? Well, I did this.
I did that. I did this. I did that.
And he said to them,
the kings of the Gentiles exercised lordship
over them, and those in authority over them are called
benefactors. But not so
with you. Rather, let the greatest
among you become as the youngest and
the leader as one who serves.
For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table
or the one who serves?
It is not the one who reclines at the table, but I
am among you as the one who serves, meaning Jesus said,
I didn't come here just to be served, I came here
to serve. I am the greatest. You are those
who have stayed with me in my trials, and I
assigned to you as my father assigned to me a kingdom that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom
and sit on thrones judging the 12 tribes of Israel. Verse 31, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you
that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.
And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers. Peter said to him, Lord, I'm ready to go
with you both the prison and to death. How many times do we say is, oh, I'm ready, God. I'm in your
corner. And I got you, Lord. Jesus said,
him, I tell you, Peter, rooster will not crow in this day
until you deny me three times that you know me.
And we got to remember this. Remember this.
Jesus says, you're going to deny me three times
before the rooster crows.
And he said to them, when I sent you out with no
money bag or no knapsack, no sandals, did you lack anything?
Now, this is important. I love this passage right here.
They said nothing. He said to them, but now
let the one who has a money bag take it. And likewise,
a knapsack, and let the one who has no sword
sell his cloak and buy one. For I tell you that
scripture must be fulfilled. And he was numbered
with the transgressors for what is written about me has fulfillment. And he said, look, Lord,
here are two swords. And he said, it is enough. Now, like 12 chapters ago, Jesus told that sent out
the disciples and said, take no money bag, take no knapsack, take no extra tunic, go with what you have,
no extra sandals. And he was teaching them to be dependent on him in that moment. But now he says,
hey, you remember that time that I told you to bring no money, bring no tunic, bring no knapsack?
Okay, now that I'm going to die and ascend into heaven and you have learned it to depend on me,
use common sense and wisdom and bring those things with you.
Bring them with you.
Verse 39.
And he came out and went as it was his custom to the Mount of Olives,
and the disciples followed him.
And when he came to this place, he said to them,
pray that you may not enter into temptation and he withdrew from them about a stone's throw
and knelt down and prayed and saying,
Father, if you are willing to remove this cup from me, nevertheless, not my will,
but yours be done.
And there appeared to him an angel from heaven,
strengthening him.
And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly,
and his sweat became like great drops of blood,
falling down to the ground.
I believe that is so,
because Jesus was feeling the weight of the sin
that he was about to take on past, present and future.
You know, scripture tells us,
he who knew no sin became sin
so that you and I could become the righteousness of God.
He became our sin on the cross.
And when he rose from prayer,
he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow,
and he said to them,
why are you sleeping?
Rise and pray that you may not enter into it.
temptation. While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas Ascariot,
Judas was leading him. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, because Judas had told the Pharisees,
the one I kiss is the one that you arrest. Jesus said to him, Judas, would you betray the son of
man with a kiss? And when those who were around him saw that what would follow, they said,
Lord, shall we strike with the sword? And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut
off his right ear, but Jesus said, no more of this. And he touched his ear and healed him
And the reason that he did that was because he knew he had to go through with it.
The angel had just given him strength to go through with this.
Then Jesus said to the chief priest and the officers of the temple and the elders who had come out against him.
Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs?
When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me, but this is your hour and the power of darkness.
You've got to done this in public in front of everyone, but you're choosing to do it now.
Of course you are.
Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest's house.
and Peter was following at a distance.
And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together,
Peter sat down among them.
And then a servant girl seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him and said,
this man was also with him.
Girls like, wait, were you, are you with that dude?
But he denied it saying, woman, I don't know him.
And a little later someone else saw him and said,
you are also one of them.
But Peter said, man, I'm not that dude.
And after an interval about an hour or so, still another insisted saying,
certainly this man also with him
for you two as a galilean but Peter said man
I do not know what you're talking about
and immediately while he was still speaking
the rooster crowed and the Lord turned and looked at Peter
and Peter remembered the saying of the Lord of how he said to him
before the rooster crows today you will deny me three times
imagine the shame Peter felt and he went out and wept
bitterly Jesus is mocked now the men who were holding Jesus in custody
were mocking him as they beat him
They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, prophesy, who is it that struck you, beating him and mocking him, spitting on him.
First 65, and they said many other things against him blaspheming him.
When the day came the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away to their counsel and said,
If you are the Christ, tell us.
But he said to them, if I tell you, you will not believe.
And if I ask you, you will not answer.
But from now on, the son of man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.
So they all say, are you the son of God then?
And he said to them, you say that I am.
See, it's interesting.
The roles are reversed in glory right now.
It's never the one that suffers that gives glory.
But Jesus is gaining the most glory in this suffering right now.
Then they said, what further testimony do we need?
We have heard it from ourselves with his own lips.
Jesus is about to be taken before Pilate on a stage to be crucified.
