on a sabbatical right now. Actually, no, he's not. He's here. He's backing his out. Elf Dylan.
Come back here. Come back here. Let's go. What gift we opened in today?
Let's do this one. Okay, great. You know, that was... Why is it oddly heavy?
I don't like the way this feels, bro.
Do you remember what this one is?
I know what this one is.
What the heck?
It's a rubber chicken.
Oh my goodness, bro.
It feels good, right?
Dude, this one feels great.
Look at it.
So cool.
Thank you, man.
Thank you so much for this.
I appreciate you.
Of course.
Thank you.
That was very thoughtful of you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Well, as always, we're going to get into the Word of God today.
We're going to be in Luke chapter 8.
It's going to be a powerful time of word.
Luke chapter 8 we have let's see how many verses we got we got 56 verses in Luke chapter 8 let's get it
soon afterwards he went on through the cities and villages proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of god
and the 12 were with him and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits mary magdalen and
Joanna herod's household manager and susanna there were some women following him and a so and a great
crowd was gathering him and he said a sewer went out to sow his seed and sewed some fell along the path
and it was trampled underfoot,
and the birds of the air devoured it,
and some fell on the rock, and it grew up, and it withered away.
Some fell among the thorns, and it choked it out,
and some fell on good soil, and it grew and yielded 100-fold.
As he said, these things, he said,
He who has ears, let him hear.
You know how much that speech frustrated people?
There was a great crowd gathered there who wanted miracles from Jesus.
Imagine Jesus making his inaugural speech,
and the first thing he ever says is,
yeah, a farmer went out to sow some seed,
threw some seed here, here, here, and here.
Those ones didn't work,
landed on subceding it grew up. Yeah, if you have ears, hear what I got to say. Thank you so much
for coming out tonight. God bless. And it leaves. And everyone's like, what the heck just happened?
And so they left angrily. But this is when the disciples asked him, they said, hey, what did you mean when
you said that? Jesus is about to explain here what the parables were. He says, to you, it has been
given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others, they are in parables. So that seeing,
they may not see in hearing. They may not understand. Now, the parable is that.
what he says is the parables are a sifting mechanism to see who just want the benefits of the kingdom rather than the king.
Who wants the king and who just wants the benefits?
And all those people that left, they just want the benefits of the kingdom without Jesus.
But he sees the disciples, they're hungry to know Jesus himself.
He says, that seed is the word of God, the once along the path of those who have heard it.
Then the devil comes and takes away the word in their heart saying,
there are people that get the word of God sewn into their heart,
and there's a war for their soul, and the devil snatches it up.
and then there's ones on the rock
when they hear it
they receive it with joy
but they have no root
they believe it for a while
and the time of testing falls away
meaning they have no depth
to the word of God that they hear
they just hear it and they ride that high
they ride that church camp high they don't care
to grow deeper they just like the joy of what they heard
and then when trials come they easily fall away
and the one that fell among the thorns
are those who hear it
but they're choked by the cares
and the riches and the pleasures
of their life and their fruit does not mature.
Meaning their sin and their sinful, deceitful desires get the best of them.
As for the good soil, as those who hear it, hold fast to it in an honest and good heart
and bear fruit with patience.
Saying, hey, listen, I don't just believe in this word.
I want to live this thing out.
I want to walk out of these statues.
Then Jesus begins to continue talking.
No one, after lighting a lamp, covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed,
but puts it on a stand so that those who enter may see the light
for nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest
nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to the light.
Everything comes to the light.
Everything comes to the light.
Even after you die, it comes to the light.
There was an old minister back of the day
who everyone thought was so legendary
and then he died and then all of his secret sin came to the light
and it was after he died, it still came to the light.
It came to the light.
Everything will come to the light.
You know, what's crazy is we like to take Jesus
and we like to gatekeep him for some reason.
out of fear. No, no, no. If you've got the hope, let that light shine before men so that your
good works can give glory to your father who's in heaven. Come on. 18, take care then how you hear.
For the one who has, more will be given from the one who is not, even what he thinks will be taken away.
Listen, but much is given, much is required, and the second you confess it makes Satan lose his power over you.
Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd,
and he was told, your mother and your brothers are standing outside of his iron as he. Can you imagine
and mother, Jesus' mothers and brothers.
Oh, yeah, no, we're his family.
Oh, yeah, no, you know Jesus?
Yeah, he can't, he's from me.
Yeah, I'm, I mean, I didn't make him,
but I was the one who carried him for nine months, you know.
Oh, oh, Jesus, yeah, that's my brother.
You know, it's what's up.
Do I really hate him deep down?
Yeah, but that's my brother, you know, street cred.
They wanted Jesus for clout for this moment.
Just in this moment, he answered them my brother
and my mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God.
God and do. He says, those who are a part of my family, this is just deeper than blood,
those who are a part of my family are those who do the will of my father.
Then Jesus calms a storm. I love the city. This story, he says, when did they get into the boat
and they say, hey, let us go across to the other side. So they set out, and as they sailed, he fell
asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger.
And they went and woke him saying, master, master, we are perishing. And he awoke and
rebuke the wind and the raging waves and they ceased. And there was a calm and he said to them,
where is your faith? See, this is interesting. See, Jesus looks at the disciple says, hey, we're going to go
the other side. They get in this boat and Jesus falls asleep and the craziest storm and trial arises
and they freak out. They think they're going to die. And they look at Jesus who's in the middle of this
storm, calm as a daisy asleep, and they wake him up. And I imagine Jesus just going,
oh, yawning and stretching out and going and saying something to the wind and bam, the storm's
calm. And he looks at them and says, why do you have little faith? Let's change the
context of the story really quick. Let's say, you know, hey son, hey, dar, hey you, imagine I'm
Jesus speaking to you. Hey, I want you to follow me all the days of your life. And even if you walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, don't fear anything for I will be with you. Great Jesus,
I'm going to follow you. And then the storms arise and the trials arise and we start doubting God,
we stop trusting God, we stop reading his word. And Jesus doesn't say, why do you have little faith
to shame you in those moments. He says, why do you doubt? Because before we even started this journey
across the water, I told you we would get to the other side. Jesus' promise to you is that you will
be with him, no matter how many temptations, trials come your way. The promise is he will be with you.
So in the trials and storms of your life, you have to trust that God is going to be with you,
cling to this word, this unwavering foundation of the Word of God. And then in verse 20,
six we see Jesus heal a demon says then he sailed to the country he gets to the other side
when jesus stepped out on the land there met him a man from the city who had demons a legion
we read in verse verse 30 it's like 5,000 demons this guy comes to jesus with 5,000 demons bro
what's your name he says him he said legion for many demons of internet the demons begged him
not to command them to depart into the abyss you know that's a promise of revelation 9 that will
happen where they go into the abyss.
Now a large herd of pigs was feeding
there on the hillside and they begged him to let them
enter these so he gave them permission.
Then the demons came out of the man and entered
the pigs and the herd
rushed down the steep bank into the lake and
drowned. You see
a lot of people are like, man, why did the pigs run
off a cliff and
die? When these demons
enter into the pigs, we watch the behavior
of the pigs freak out, run, and jump
off a cliff. This shows the destructive
nature of the demonic, the destructive nature of the devil in your life.
Before you follow Jesus, you worship the devil.
When you live for yourself, you're worshiping the devil.
And what we are blind to see is the destructive nature of the devil in our life.
An unrepentant sin and bitterness and unforgiveness will give the foothold to the devil in your life.
But the grace of God can set you free from that, and we see the destructive nature of the demonic.
And these pigs.
When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and told it to the city and in the country.
Then the people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man
from whom the demons had gone.
So they see the man who got delivered from demons.
And those who had seen it told them how the demon-possessed man had been healed.
Then the people's surrounding country of Jerosines asked him to depart from them, for they
were seized with great fear.
So he got into the boat and returned.
The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him.
He wanted to follow Jesus.
He said, return to your home and declare how much God has done for you.
Now, I know we're reading through and processing the scripture together, but let me just tell you a question that comes to mind.
I don't have an answer.
But I've always wondered why God tells some people to not tell anyone, and why God tells some people to go tell people.
I don't understand it.
I don't, I will never fully understand that.
It went away of proclaiming.
And we see in Luke 840 that, uh,
begin the story of the woman with a bleeding disease.
When Jesus returned from the crowd,
there was a man named Jiris, who was the ruler of a synagogue,
who was a leader who was popular in this kind of synagogue.
The synagogue wasn't just a place of worship.
This was a place of marketplace.
Everything happened in the synagogue,
and Jiris wasn't just your Joe Schmo.
He was like a well-known face in the synagogue,
and it would have been shameful for Jiris to approach Jesus
and be seen and associated with him,
but he was so desperate, so desperate for freedom.
he falls at the feet of Jesus for his daughter
was only 12 years old and she was dying.
And the same amount of time,
Jiris' daughter has been alive,
was the same amount of time
the woman with a bleeding disease
has had this bleeding disease.
As was Jesus is pushing through the crowd of people,
she touches the fringe of his garment
and in a moment,
what seemed impossible to science was impossible.
What it seemed impossible for science
was possible for the God
who is above science,
his lord over science heals the woman with the bleeding disease he says someone touched me i've
perceived power to leave from me and she came trembling falling down before him knowing that the
people in the synagogue would realize that she was the unclean woman with the bleeding disease it says
look i've i've i was the one that touched you and jesus doesn't look at her and say you pig
you unclean pig he doesn't say that he says daughter your faith this makes me
you well. He calls her by her name. See, Satan knows your name and calls you by your sin,
but Jesus knows your sin and he calls you by your name. Come to him. And while he was still speaking
to the girl, someone from the Jiris's house came and said, your daughter died. And Jesus looked at him
and said, don't fear, just believe she'll be well. Like, I ain't forgot about her. But he had already
he called the mourners to come out and mourn and weep and sing songs outside and he shows up
and said don't weep for she's not dead but sleeping those mourners laughed at him knowing she was
dead but taking her by the hand he said child arise and her spirit returned and she got up at once
and he directed that something should be given to her to eat her parents were amazed but he charged
them to tell no one what had happened god's always on time god doesn't forget about you god sees you
He loves you. He's for you. And when we pray for things, we have to trust that his timing is perfect.
Yes, it's an answer to prayer from God. A no is an answer to prayer from God. We got to trust him.
