fall. What's going on, guys? Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Crawford podcast. I'm Bryson. Today, we are on Proverbs 19 out of 31 chapters in Proverbs. Guys, you know the drill. Follow along today. We're going to start reading and dive into this. Let's read it. Better is a poor person who walks in integrity than one who is crooked in speech and is a fool. Verse two. Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses it. I'm going to read that again, okay? And I want you to catch this before we explain it. Desire without

knowledge is not good. And whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way. On this side of eternity, we as human beings that are broken will struggle with sin, but we don't have to run towards it. We should be those that resist temptation instead of running towards it and succumbing ourselves to it and setting ourselves up for failure. You know, a lot of times we fall to sin and screw up and blame the devil when we should take responsibility for putting ourselves in the situations that we are. So be careful. Resist temptation.

flee temptation. flee sin. First three, when a man's folly brings his way to ruin his heart rages against the Lord, isn't that crazy? When a man's own actions break him, when a man's own stupidity, breaks him. What does he do? Blames God. Let's even take that further back from a zoomed-out perspective. When suffering occurs, we do what? Immediately blame God. When sometimes the suffering is self-inflicted. But other times, the suffering isn't self-inflicted, but also God's not the author of evil. God's not the author of suffering. So what is going on? Don't rage against the Lord.

Wealth brings many new friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend. Verse 5, a false witness will not go unpunished and he who breathes out lies will not escape. Many seek the favor of a generous man and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts. All a poor man's brothers hate him. How much more do his friends go far from him? He pursues them with words but does not have them. What does that mean? All poor men's brothers hate him.

To be poor means that you're often rejected by men. Why is it that we as human beings view those who are in need of things and those who are poor as a lesser than human beings. And so if you are poor, it means that you're often rejected by men, even brothers and close friends. But what does 2 Corinthians 8, verse 9 show us that Jesus became poor to what, to draw near to us in our poverty and need? In his humanity, God humbled himself in every way, shape, or form. And so this shows the picture that what, God pursues the poor and needy, that they are of the same value as the rich. Right? Isn't that beautiful? verse eight whoever gets sense loves his own soul he who keeps understanding will discover good in acquiring

wisdom we love our own soul we say hey i'm benefiting myself by applying the wisdom of god to my life and what does it say he who keeps understanding will discover so it says don't just get wisdom keep it Keep wisdom. Verse 9. A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will perish. It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury, much less for a slave to rule over princes. Good sense makes one slow to anger and his glory to overlook an offense. It isn't necessarily a weakness or a lack of courage to be slow to anger.

A lot of people think that when you're slow to anger, that you're weak or you're not courageous. But actually, Proverbs 19 verse 11 says that if you're slow to anger, that could actually be just wisdom, keeping you slow to anger. Because a wise man, see, when you apply the wisdom of God to your life, you know that you've been forgiven much. So it shapes how you interact with other people when you've been forgiven much. But when you don't know the love of God for you, it's easy to get quick to be angry. A king's wrath is like the growling of a line, but his favor is like dew on the grass. A foolish son is ruined to his father and a wife's quarreling is the continual dripping of rain. It is grieving to have a foolish son or daughter, a rebellious, foolish, simple son or daughter.

It is grieving. It leads to sadness and ruin to the father's life. You know what else it does? Having a quarreling wife. Verse 14. House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord. a wife that fears God is a gift from our heavenly father. Verse 15, slothfulness casts into a deep sleep and an idle person will suffer hunger.

Whoever keeps the commandment keeps his life, he who despises his ways will die. Obedience to the Word of God has practical benefit. Flee from death, physical and spiritual death. Because when you submit yourself to Christ and have faith in Christ, spiritual death you have no fear of, physical death you anticipate because you're united with Christ to abandon wisdom and live carelessly invites death at your doorstep so submit yourself to the wisdom of God verse 18 sorry verse 17

whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord and he will repay him for his deed discipline your son for there is hope do not set your heart on putting him to death age and circumstance limit our opportunity to wise discipline for a kid's as a our kids grew older, it's harder to discipline the kids. Right now. I'm not a father, but that's just the reality. The older I got, it was easier for me to want to not listen to my parents because I was like older and I thought I knew it all, right? So we must do it. We must discipline our, when I grew up and have kids, I must apply the scripture to my life and

be able to discipline my kids properly and wisely so that there is hope because there might come a time where I wish I did something about a certain habit that they have, right? But discipline is a good thing. It raises people up in the uprightness of the Lord. A man of great wrath will pay the penalty, for if you deliver him, you will only have to do it again. Listen to advice and accept instruction that you may gain wisdom in the future. Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Verse 22, what is desired in a man is steadfast love, and a poor man is better than a liar. Kindness isn't the highest virtue of God, but it's a deeply desired one for some reason.

and everyone desires to be kind, but to be a man or woman of truth is also a value. That's why it says in verse 22, the poor man is better than a liar. So not only is kindness a beautiful thing, but he's saying like, hey, look, kindness isn't the highest of virtues in the kingdom of heaven,

but also being a truthful man or woman is also of high value as well. Verse 23, the fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rest satisfied, he will not be visited by harm. The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. Listen, listen to this crazy picture,

Solomon is about to do right here. The sluggard buries his hand in the dish and will not even bring it back to his mouth. This shows that the lazy man will start projects but lacks the energy to complete it. That's why he says the lazy man's got his hand and his food bowl, but as he's so lazy,

he won't even bring his hand to his mouth to feed himself. The lazy man will go hungry in all aspects. So be awake. verse 25 strike a scoffer and the simple will learn prudence reprove a man of understanding and he will gain knowledge so a scoffer would be considered someone who is who is worse than the simple man right so he's saying look if you punish the scoffer the scoffer doesn't learn the simple learn from the punishment that is inflicted on the scoffer

so the simple aren't too far gone they can actually learn the wisdom of god by watching a scoffer someone who is more hard-hearted than them receive discipline verse 26 He who does violence to his father and chases away his mother is a son who brings shame and reproach cease to hear instruction my son and you will stray from the words of knowledge

A worthless witness mocks at justice in the mouth of the wicked devourers iniquity Verse 29 to end it out condemnation is ready for scoffers and beating for the backs of fools those who reject wisdom with hostility will not escape the penalty and judgment of the Lord
