Starting point is 00:00:00 What's going on, guys. Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Crawford podcast. I'm Bryce. And today, by the title of the episode, we're diving in the Great Commission. Guys, I've got to say this. We have tried to record this episode four times now. And I truly believe that Satan doesn't want us to talk about this because I'm going to talk about the most looked over piece of the Great Commission here.
Starting point is 00:00:21 This is very powerful. We're going to get into it. Before we get into it, guys, if you guys have seen the shirt that I've been wearing the past few episodes or on social media, it's our newest merch design. Go get it. Jesusendestreet.com. support us. Let's get into the Great Commission.
Starting point is 00:00:33 Matthew 28, verse 19 through 20. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always
Starting point is 00:00:47 to the end of the age. What is Jesus talking about here? Let's set the scene. Jesus Christ is resurrected in his physical body and he had been alive for over a four, 40-day period, he had been alive, roaming the earth. He's about to ascend into heaven. He gives the last commandment.
Starting point is 00:01:06 And he tells everyone, go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and Son and the Holy Spirit. Who has qualified you to go share the gospel? Is it once you go through a four-year Bible college program, then you're able to share the gospel? Is it once you work in a church for two years, then you're able to? No. Jesus Christ has qualified to you to go to every,
Starting point is 00:01:29 nation, every neighborhood, and preach the gospel to all people. Now, there's a video clip that has gone viral of me all over the internet. It's on the Georgianco podcast. It's where I'm talking about missionaries, all right? And I'm talking about how I believe that there's an epidemic, that there's a stereotype out there, that people think that you can only be a missionary if you go to a third world country. And people thought that I was making fun of missionaries that go to anywhere outside the country, that go to other nations.
Starting point is 00:01:58 No, I'm not. I have many friends that go to third world countries or other countries to share the gospel. And I think it's amazing and I champion them. I have supported missionaries that have gone out of the country. I think it is an amazing thing. The thing that I was dissing on the podcast is the stereotype that you have to leave your own home country to go to the nations. Did you know that your college campus represents a huge amount of nations there? Did you know that you can reach a football stadium of nations from your iPhone?
Starting point is 00:02:27 Did you know that your neighborhood has different ethnicities and backgrounds that are living there right now as we speak? So when Jesus says go to all the nations, he's saying every human being to exist needs the gospel. Yet, we will see the homeless man on the side of the road and act like he doesn't exist. But Jesus says in Matthew 25, what you do to the least of these you do unto me. The reason he says that is every human being is made in the image of God. every human being has value on this planet because they are made in the image and likeness of God. And so when we overlook people or we say, oh, I'm not going to share the gospel with that person because I don't feel like it, or I'm not going to share the gospel with that person because I'm just too scared.
Starting point is 00:03:09 I don't know how they're going to react. Are you kidding me? These human beings are made in the image of God. They have inherent value that they don't know about. And their sinful nature is disguising the reality of who Jesus Christ is. And you might be the wake-up call to soften their heart. and their heart might become so tender and soft and ready to receive the love of Jesus Christ
Starting point is 00:03:28 all because you had the boldness to obey the commandment that Jesus gives before he ascents into heaven, which is to go and preach the gospel and make disciples of all nations. We're going to talk about discipleship in a moment. Baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. What is baptism? Baptism is an outward expression of an inward heart change.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Jesus tells believers to get baptized. Now baptism is not essential for salvation. We know believing in Jesus Christ, believing in the gospel, that he died and resurrected, faith and trust in him. That is salvation. But baptism, why wouldn't you do it if you're a follower of Jesus Christ? It is an outward expression of an inward heart change. That's what he says. And he says, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always to the end of the age. Jesus here gives a very comforting
Starting point is 00:04:11 message before he sends the help or the Holy Spirit to be with every believer. In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit was only accessible to certain people that God give the Holy Spirit to. But now the veil is torn. Jesus Christ resurrected. Any human being can have the Holy Spirit. and it's comforting because it says no matter the good times or the hard times, I will be with you always. Now here's the most looked over piece of the Great Commission, the most forgotten piece of the last commandment Jesus Christ gives, teaching them to observe all that I've commanded you.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Discipleship. What is a disciple? Jesus says if you want to be my disciple, you must deny yourself, pick up your cross, and follow me. What is a disciple? A disciple is someone who is actively, chasing Jesus Christ, someone who is actively looking to change their lifestyle from a way that was of the world to a way that is right in God's eyes, someone who is wholeheartedly chasing
Starting point is 00:05:03 after Jesus Christ. What is repentance? Repentance is turning from your sin and chasing Jesus Christ. That's what it is. And it's powerful because there are so many churches out here that are more worried about getting so many people to raise their hand and counting how many people raise their hand to a salvation call or how many people say a salvation prayer or fill out one of those little key cards after they say that they gave their life to Jesus, more churches and people are worried about that than they are discipling believers. Can I be blunt with you guys? I went to many church camps growing up. I grew up in a Christian church. I ran to the altar about every other week going to church camps. I ran to the altar about every other youth group. All right?
Starting point is 00:05:43 But why was there no true heart change? Because I wasn't being disciples. I wasn't being trained up. And so why does Jesus make an emphasis here in verse 20, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you because we must train young believers to be ready for the attacks and temptations that Satan throws at us. Satan is prowling the earth like a roaring lion and he is looking for weak individual Christians to devour. Why do you think so many people backslide? Why do you think people don't have depth in their faith? Because more people are worried about saying a salvation prayer than they are disciplining, disciplining people and building longevity with them. The Bible says that heaven rejoices over one sinner who truly repents, than 99 righteous persons. There is power and
Starting point is 00:06:26 discipleship. I mean, when you look at Acts 2, you look at Peter. What happens when Peter preaches the gospel to 3,000 newly people? They get born again. What does he do with these 3,000 new believers? It says in verse 40 on in chapter 2 of Acts that he meets with them every day. He breaks bread with them. He fellowships with them. He pours into them, disciples them, and does miraculous things with them. Even Peter knew the weight of having 3,000 new born again believers pop up at his doorstep. Did you know that you can actively disciple people in your community? Jesus is all about reaching the one.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Reaching the one. Look at Jesus and John 4. Jesus went out of his way to Samaria, a Jew talking to a Samaritan. Not good in that time period. But he didn't go with a big crowd. He went by himself to meet the woman at the well. And there's a power with meeting with people. pouring into them. And what does discipleship look like? Well, this is what discipleship looks like.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Discipleship is simply meeting with brothers and sisters, reading the word together, praying together, holding each other accountable together. Do you know what I think is powerful now that I think about it right now? I always wondered why Jesus sent the disciples out in twos. Why did he do that? to hold each other accountable. Have brothers there, pour into each other, pray for each other, walk with each other. Why were the disciples together in a group? Because they leaned on each other.
Starting point is 00:08:05 They leaned from each other. They leaned from each other. Poured into each other. And it's crazy because you can have proximity to Jesus and not even know him, much less he not even know you. Look at Judas Ascariat. He was one of the inner 12 And he sold Jesus out for 30 shekels of silver
Starting point is 00:08:32 But then you had Peter Who denied Jesus three times But repented And became the cornerstone of the church And what happens when he preached is the gospel 3,000 newly born-again believers Powerful thing So I want to encourage you guys
Starting point is 00:08:50 With something here Discipleship is important You can disciple your friends Start a Bible study meet with your brothers and sisters. Meet for coffee, meet for lunch, dinner. Do heart shakes.
Starting point is 00:09:04 How are you doing? How are you actually doing? What's going on? Do you struggling with anything? How can I pray for you? Let's read the Bible together. If we want to see true revival in America, we need discipleship.
Starting point is 00:09:14 I want to encourage you, encourage you guys to disciple your brothers and sisters. I wasn't even going to mention this because I totally forgot about this until now. What I'm going to mention it is the last thing. We just started a Patreon where we're disciplining people. And I've had a burden for discipleship lately
Starting point is 00:09:35 because I'm watching so many young believers being crippled right now by so many sin issues. And the reason we have a Patreon is because it filters out the people that say that they want to be disciples versus those that actually are about it. We're doing weekly Zoom calls, evangelism training. We're doing verse by verse breakdown videos, verse of the days to encourage people to get in the Word.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Bible plans and more. It's amazing. If you guys want to join our discipleship, group, have community of brothers and sisters who want to learn about the word. Go to patreon.com slash Bryce Crawford
Starting point is 00:10:12 join our kingdom school. It's powerful. It's going to be amazing. But aside from that, you guys can disciple your friends, brothers, sisters. And the last thing I want to encourage you guys with is this. A lot of you guys may not know this,
Starting point is 00:10:28 but I have a brother with autism. His name's Tyler. And Tyler and I have had an interesting relationship growing up. Tyler and I never really talked much. We never really did much together. And I've found myself having a new heart for my brother. And it's been a beautiful thing to see what God has done, bringing us so close together.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Once where we could barely stay on the phone for two minutes because it was awkward because we didn't spend a lot of time together, not growing up much. And now we can't stop talking on the phone and we call every day. It's a powerful, beautiful thing. I've had the privilege of getting to pour into it. him and disciple him and walk him through life. It's been amazing. It's crazy to see what discipleship does to relationships grows you with people. Discipleship builds longevity.
Starting point is 00:11:13 And if you're watching or listening to this, one of the biggest hearts behind why we make these videos is because I pray to God one day that I can meet you guys face to face when you're 60, 70 years old and say that you're burning brighter than you were before when you're the age that you are today watching this video. I pray to God that each one of you guys are burning harder than you ever before when you're 50, 60, 70, 70, 80 years old. Jesus, I thank you for everyone watching and listening to this video. God, would you just give us a burden for discipleship for ourselves and a burden to disciple others? God, we just thank you for the great commission in Jesus name. Amen.
