Starting point is 00:00:26 Discover coffee plus on nispresso.com. What's going on, guys. Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Carver podcast. I'm Bryson. Today, we are going to be talking about Judgment Day. Jesus talked about Judgment Day in Matthew Chapter 7. What should we expect? What is it going to look like in the end? I'm going to try to help fill in some gaps here. Hopefully we can see what that looks like. But I think it's important to establish who gets the right to judge, because now the most quoted verse out of all of scripture, ironically, is not Jesus wept. it's not John 316. It's actually, hey, well, do not judge.
Starting point is 00:01:04 You're not allowed to judge. Do not judge. That's the thing. And so if we're so worried about arguing, which that's like a whole other conversation for another time, but if we're so worried about who's judging them, we should be a little concerned about who's judging on judgment day. And the gospel of John in chapter 5, verse 22,
Starting point is 00:01:20 it actually tells us that the father has given the authority to the son to judge. On judgment day, God the Father has trusted Jesus Christ to judge the earth. He ain't trusted Buddha. He hasn't trusted Muhammad, and he sure as heck hasn't trusted Joseph Smith. Nobody is judging except Jesus Christ. Point blank period. He is the one that is judging on the throne.
Starting point is 00:01:47 He is the one that is going to call the shots, because what, he is righteous in nature. Act 17 actually tells us that he judges in righteousness. So Christ is holy. We believe that God is a holy, righteous, perfect God who is sovereign, who is all-powerful. He is the only one that is allowed to make the ultimate decision on the throne. So like before you go down the little rabbit holes of what happens to the person in the Amazon tribe of 12 people, when they have their own language and whatever, blah, blah, blah, you have to understand this. If we believe God is all powerful, all just, all-loving, then we have to trust in the little nuanced scenarios that God is going to be. going to judge each scenario in a just way. We have to trust it because we are trusting in God.
Starting point is 00:02:35 Now the beauty of that is like the book of Revelation would say every nation tribe and tongue will be represented in heaven, which gives me hope for even that isolated tribe. But that's besides a point. When we know that Jesus Christ is the judge, that should give us two things. Number one, comfort because God is perfect. He's righteous. Knowing that Christ sits on the throne and he's the one calling the shots, that is such a big. comfort peace. But second, that should get the fear of the Lord. You know what more people should be convicted of? They should be convicted of feeling the fact that people feel conviction when they're in scenarios of like conquering their biggest fear, whether it be like they get on a plane,
Starting point is 00:03:14 you know, like I don't know about you, but it's like every time I sit in a plane, like I repent five times. You know what I mean? Like I'm talking to myself. It's like we shouldn't just be convicted of sin when we feel like our life is on the line. Knowing that Christ is sitting on the throne should give us a holy reverence and fear of God to such a place where we say, oh snap, no, we should want to live a holy set apart life that is consecrated for God because he sits on the throne. And actually the book of Romans would tell you and I that our faith fuels the works. Our faith is actually the thing that fuels the works that we do, whether it be feeding the homeless, serving those, loving others, whatever it may be. So like if you,
Starting point is 00:03:56 if your life doesn't look different before you claimed have met Jesus until after you claimed of met Jesus, and you might be following a different Jesus, and you might be genuinely shocked at who's sitting on the throne judging you when you die. And so before we get into the nitty-gritty, Jesus is the one on the throne. That should give you and I some hope. Now, when we're talking about death here, the Bible would describe death. There's two deaths that happen that the Bible described. physical death. So when this physical body passes away, that's the first death. The second death is spiritual death if you were someone that will be condemned to separation from God.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Now, we're going to get to like the one of the scariest truth about hell here in a little bit. But there's three types of groups that are going to be judged on Judgment Day. The first is going to be nonbelievers, which Revelation actually tells us a little bit about that. Revelation 20, verse 11. This is what it says about nonbelievers. It says, Then I saw Paul, sorry not Paul. John is writing this. Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence, earth and sky fled away and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne and books were open. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. Which I don't know, if you guys don't know this, you should want your name written in that book. You want your name written in the book of life.
Starting point is 00:05:21 And the dead were judged by what was written in the books according to what they had done. So John is seeing a vision of both people that are currently alive that are standing before the Great White Throne Judgment. And then he's seeing a group of people that have already passed away. And there's books everywhere. And it's got records of wrong in there. Records of wrong. And they're being judged by the record of wrong. You know, I think it's Second Corinthians. Second Corinthians or First Corinthians. One of them, it actually tells us that every human being will have to stand before God and give an account for their life. That every thought, word, and action that you have spoken, done, everything is written in a book,
Starting point is 00:06:00 and you will have to hold an account. And so right now, John is saying, yeah, I'm seeing people great and small in all these books, and it has each record of wrong in these books. And here's what it says, and the sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. And they were judged each one of them according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Starting point is 00:06:21 the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. What is John telling us right now? If you die, not putting faith and trust in Jesus Christ, if you die, wanted to live your own way, the reality is breaks God's heart, but you will be separated from God for an eternity. That the lake of fire, aka hell, is where someone will go if they don't have faith and trust. and Jesus Christ. And you know what one of the scariest truths about hell is? Like yes, hell is both a justice system, right? God is judging them. And God has the authority to judge because this is his world. This is his world. We are his creation and we have chosen to rebel against him. He has every right to judge.
Starting point is 00:07:09 But the scariest truth about hell is, yes, it's a justiceism, but the people that go to hell want to be there. And that's like a crazy thing. What do you mean the people that go to hell want to be there? Yeah, because in this life they actively blasphemed God. by rejecting the nudging of the Holy Spirit in life. In this life, they chose to live how they wanted to live. And every single time that a non-believer rejected God in their heart began to get calloused and calloused and callous and callous. And this is why you should be careful for all the sins that you commit
Starting point is 00:07:36 that you don't feel conviction about. Every single time God watched a human being, his creation, his beloved, made in his image, reject him in their heart get calloused and callous and callous and callous and callous. It breaks his heart so much so that when they died, he is so just that broke his heart. but they chose to be there. And if you look at the story,
Starting point is 00:07:54 I think it's Luke chapter 18, the rich man, the rich man in Lazarus, you know, when Lazarus, I mean, sorry, not when Lazarus, when the rich man is in hell, crying out for relief, he says, just dip water on my tongue,
Starting point is 00:08:10 I'm suffering in here. Hell is going to be firing. It's going to be burning. There's going to be weeping and gnashing of teeth in there. But it's also going to be without God's presence. that's what's going to suck the most about hell, is that even if someone goes their whole life
Starting point is 00:08:26 is the angriest atheist who doesn't think God exists, they're going to stand before God and every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that he is Lord, and they're going to see the most beautiful, magnificent being that they've ever seen in their life, and then they're separate from it for an eternity. Hey, I want to talk about something real for a second, and I want to talk to a specific person right now.
Starting point is 00:08:45 If you've been trying to get free from corn and you keep finding yourself right back in the same place, I want to encourage you, do not give you. Do not give up. James 516 says confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. There's something powerful about bringing what is hidden into the light and inviting other people into the fight with you. That's why I want to tell you about victory by covenant eyes. Victory is not just about blocking content. It is built around real accountability. Getting honest, building healthier habits, and bringing trusted people alongside you,
Starting point is 00:09:12 it gives you content filtering and community support to help you keep moving forward. And what I love is that victory approaches this from a Christian worldview. because this is not just about changing what you do. It's about becoming the person God has created you to be. Freedom may not happen overnight, but you do not have to fight alone. So if you are ready to take that next step, start your journey today with victory by Covenant Eyes. Go to covenanteyes.com and use Code Bryce 30
Starting point is 00:09:35 to get a free 30-day trial and start living in freedom today. Again, that is covenanteis.com, code Bryce 30. But the scariest truth is that the people that go to hell want to be there. They chose that life. Yes, it's a justice system, but they actively rejected God. If you look at the rich man and Luke Chabber 18, he asked for relief on a song. Why didn't the rich man ask to be taken out of hell? I've always wondered that.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Why is it that the rich man never asked not even one singular time to be taken out of hell? He wants relief, go warn my friends and my family, but he doesn't ask to be taken out of himself. Wouldn't you think that he would be thinking about himself? Why is that? I don't know, maybe it's because of people in hell want to be there. Now, the second group of people, there's three groups that'll be judged on judgment. The second group of people are the people that pose as believers. Jesus warns this in Matthew chapter 70 says, on that day, many will come to me.
Starting point is 00:10:36 And say, well, Lord, did I not prophesy your name? I don't cast out demons in your name. I do my word to your name. And he's going to say, depart from me for I never knew you. There are going to be people who think that they are secure in Jesus because of what they've done and not what he's done. That sounds so funny to say there's going to be people that think they're secure in Jesus because of what they've done. Paul warned us about this. If getting to heaven had anything to do with what we do, then we would have something to boast about. It wouldn't be just
Starting point is 00:11:05 Jesus. It would be Jesus and. No, it's all Jesus. He paid the price. He's the reason that we cross the finish line. And life doesn't just begin when we die. Life begins the day that we accept Jesus Christ. So if you are waiting to go to quote unquote go to heaven because of your physical suffering or your mental suffering, let me give you a perspective shift here. It's not about getting across the finish line is when life begins. Life begins the day that you get Jesus. But there's going to be a group of people. Maybe you're in this category where you think you're all right. Just because you've done, oh, I read a devotional every month.
Starting point is 00:11:37 And I listen to a podcast. I listen to the Bryce Crawford podcast every morning when I drive to school so I'm good at making it across the finish line. or I go to church every Sunday, not just on Easter or Christmas. I go every Sunday even in the summertime and I'm at Wednesday night. But if your faith is built on all that, you could totally miss the mark. You could be missing Jesus because you could be so paranoid about, oh, I can't miss next week, I can't miss next week, or I can't miss the next devotion or whatever it may be. You could be so paranoid.
Starting point is 00:12:13 And even Revelation 3 to the Church of Laodicea, John says, if you were lukewarm in your faith, neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of my mouth. The craziest thing to me is that there is a set of people who claim to be Christian, who think that they can get by by sitting on the fence. You see, there's an analogy about a man who had a dream, and in this dream, this dream was in a large grass field, and it was split by a fence that on one side of the fence was Satan, and on the other side of the fence was God. And Satan looks at him and he says, you've got to choose one of us, which you want. You want me? I'll give you whatever you want. But him, he won't give you what you want.
Starting point is 00:12:52 He'll just give you what you need. Which one do you want? Which one do you want? And the man looks at Satan and Jesus and he laughs at both of them and he sits on the fence. Because he wants a little bit of what he wants. And then he wants a little bit of Jesus. And he's laughing and mocking them and laughing and mocking them. And then bang, it goes black in the dream. And as the darkness, Satan comes out to the darkness. And he grabs the man's shoulder. And the man goes, no, no, no. I didn't choose you. I didn't choose Jesus either. I sat on the fence because I'm one of the best of both worlds. and Satan grabs a man's shoulder harder and he says,
Starting point is 00:13:21 the fence belongs to me. New from an espresso, blend wellness into your coffee routine with a coffee plus range infused with functional benefits. Choose the coffee you love with added B vitamins, like coffee plus B12 to help support immune function,

Starting point is 00:13:53 I have found that when people ask me, Bryce, do you believe in once saved, always saved? They're asking that question, oftentimes, not all the time, oftentimes with this nuance that they want to know if just because they prayed a prayer that they're good. Or just because they know that they have X, Y, and Z sin struggle in their life and they don't want to give it up yet, they want to know if they're going to be okay.
Starting point is 00:14:23 They have an unrepentant sin struggle in their life that they don't want to give up, but they just want to make sure that the magic spell of a prayer that they prayed. And then there's going to be a third group that will stand before God is believers. And the Old Testament would tell us that God drops our sin in the sea of forgetfulness as if it never happened. Those record of books that we read about in Revelation 20, that the non-believers would be judged by their record of wrong. See, that's not seen in the book.
Starting point is 00:15:00 picture with the believers. But you know, what's interesting is that Paul actually writes, I think it's to the Church of Corinth in 1st Corinthians, where he says, all of our, everything that we've done is a believer, gold, silver, bronze, hay, straw, whatever, will be tried by fire. You know what that is? That is our works. And the works done for the glory of God will survive the purification and the works done in vain will be burned away. And you know what the beauty is about getting to live for Christ in this life, is that when we get to heaven, we have a crown to lay at his feet. Let our good works be shown before men, the Bible says,
Starting point is 00:15:40 so that it gives glory to our Father who's in heaven, not yourself. The whole reason that your faith fuels your works is so that A, it can point people to heaven, but B, we have something to give him when we cross the finish line. God, this is your crown, because I wouldn't have done this without you. I wouldn't have changed without you. And that's what, like, bothers me so much about online when when people get so upset that the most extreme people come to know Jesus Christ.
Starting point is 00:16:06 That's what bothers me so much. Because only God could do something like that. And that gives glory to God. And their life is going to be a living testimony to the goodness of God. And every good deed that they do, not in vain before His glory, will be laid at his feet saying, God, it's only because of you that I could do this. And, you know, I think we hear about Judgment Day and we get scared or whatever. it may be, but we should not be scared because we are united with God again.
Starting point is 00:16:38 The separation that happened in the garden will no longer be more and there will no longer be weeping or gnashing of teeth, that the last tear will be shed. And new heaven and new earth will come and we will be with God for an eternity. Let me pray for you. Jesus, right now, I thank you for everyone listening to this. And there's three things I want to pray for, Lord. Number one, I want to pray for endurance for the believer, for the one to not leave the faith, for the one to not backslide,
Starting point is 00:17:06 but God for holy endurance and strength from the spirit. Number two, I want to pray for holy conviction and the people posing as believers. God, would you convict their life and their lifestyle? And they don't think that they're just, quote, unquote, okay because they pray to prayer or because of the things that they do, Lord, would you convict to them to be all in? And Lord, lastly, I pray for laborers to reach the lost.
Starting point is 00:17:27 I pray for laborers to reach those who are currently on their path to destruction, eternal damnation, God, would you reach those people, Lord? We love you and thank you in Jesus' name. Amen.
